Greg Cosel one hour Fantasy Football, bet on Football. Want
to get smarter at football? Greg Cosel shows up in
one hour. He is always money, So Jmac. Davante Adams
(00:50):
Yesterday is what we love to show with Davante Adams.
Potentially the Jets. The Cowboys are pulled out, Buffalo and
Kansas City are interested. I my gut feeling is it's
gonna be the Jets, and it could be very soon,
and I got my reasons for it.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
Just know, historically, whenever the media says this guy's going
this place, I know never happens. Media is always wrong, all.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
Right, Well, the media is not always wrong, often some
have said fake news. I don't believe that to be true.
But here's why I think it's gonna happen with the Jets.
This is my this is my theory on this the Jets. Okay,
so let's start with Robert sol Robert Salla spent yesterday
saying there's no issue with Cadence. The Cadence thing is
no big deal. So Robert Sala now made a mistake
(01:36):
at the podium twice in the offseason, once in June,
once in the preseason, and now where he's becoming a
football arsonist. He starts a fire. We see smoke, you know,
we see the matchbox, and all of a sudden, we're
wondering to ourselves as well, who started this thing? Okay,
So the bottom line with the Jets is Robert Sall
(01:57):
has got to figure out. He's got a figure out
how to get the pressure off him in New York. Okay,
so remember what he said in the preseason. He said
Aaron Rodgers had an unexcused absence. He said those words,
what do you expect the New York media to do?
How do you expect them to react to it? And
then he said in the preseason Aaron will not play
(02:17):
in the preseason. Aaron came out same day and said,
that's news to me. What do you expect the New
York media to do with it? And then this Sunday
he starts talking about Tayden's.
Speaker 4 (02:29):
We got to figure it out whether or not we're
good enough to handle all them or ready to handle
all the kittens. Kitten's had not been an issue all
camp felt like our operation had been operating pretty good. Obviously,
today it took a major step back.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
And then people went and asked Aaron Rodgers about it
June August. Now roberts All is learning on the job,
and he keeps making these mistakes with an impulsive owner,
the New York media and Aaron Rodgers, who's prickly to
begin with. He is learning on the job. If he
was in Jacksonville, if he was in Carolina, if he
(03:10):
would have inherited a low maintenance quarterback like say Kirk Cousins,
this would be much easier. By the way, It's okay
to learn the job. A lot of these coordinators, Zach
Taylor before Joe Burrell, learning on the job. Even Sean
McVeigh great first year learning on the job, we're all
learning on the job when you get a new gig.
I'm not denying that. But my feeling is Devonte Adams
(03:33):
is down to the Saints and the Jets, and the
Jets have to make a push and Robert Sala has
to make a push for the Vonte Adams. And here's
why the pressure is now on Sala. And I think
they could get embarrassed in London. But if you signed
the Vonte Adams, where does the attention of the fans,
(03:55):
the owner, and the media go. The pressure all goes
to Aaron Rodgers, because then Aaron Rodgers, you're gonna say, Aaron,
you got Mike Williams, Alan Lazard, you're Buddy Natt Hackett,
a star running back, Davante Adams, Garrett Wilson, Aaron, come on,
(04:16):
that is elite. Sala has got to get the pressure
off him. And by the way, you know, Aaron's gonna
pound the table for Davonte Adams to Woody Johnson, Sala's
gotta pound the table for Woody Johnson. So here's Robert Sala,
who has started three fires. He just doesn't get the
(04:37):
He's a nice guy, he's a personable guy. I think
he's a smart guy. But there's the unexcused absence. Aaron's
not playing in the preseason, mentioning Cadence and they've all
started these little fires. We in the media see the smoke.
You're holding the matches and you're wondering why we're asking
about it. He's got to get the pressure off him.
(04:57):
And I'm told, I'm told to Saint it's not Dallas,
Buffalo Casey are interested. It's the Saints and it's the Jets.
Now the Saints have the advantage of hey weaker division.
We have got an offensive coordinator Kubiak, Clint Kubiak. This
guy is brilliant, you know, Derek Carr, but Aaron's the
(05:18):
better quarterback. So I think you have to pound the table.
If you're the Jets for this, you have got to
make it happen because it takes the pressure and it
puts it on where the pressure should be. If you're
gonna be the savior Aaron Rodgers, then the pressure should
be on Aaron Rodgers. But right now it's not. It's
not on him. It's not really. It's like, well, he's
got Garrett Wilson, He's got one guy you would give
(05:40):
him a second star receiver, a star back Tyron Smith,
left tackle Alan Lazard, Nat Hackett, Aaron brought those in,
Mike Williams. Suddenly you'd have now an elite group of
skilled people. So when you get the coach Sala and
the star quarterback both banging the table to an impulsive owner,
(06:01):
I think it's gonna happen. And I think it's the
Saints and the Jets are what we're hearing. Okay, So
when we drive into the Fox lot here in Los Angeles,
a lot of traffic goes by the Fox lots in
a very nice place in Los Angeles, there's a billboard
of Fox Sports and it's got three baseball players on it.
It's got Bryce Harper, Aaron Judge, and Shoheo Tani. And
(06:26):
there's a lot of great baseball players out there right now.
I'm watching the Podrays last night in the Braves. There's
a lot of great baseball players. Jackson Curio, the kid
from Milwaukee, two homers last night, twenty year old Venezuelan,
the kids unbelievable outfielder. I think brother also plays in
the Big leagues. The kid's unbelievable. He hits for power,
he can run. He hits for average to homers last night.
(06:48):
A kid's unbelievable. He's twenty. He is not selling tickets
or moving TV ratings. He's a local baseball star. And
that's ninety nine percent of the great baseball players in baseball.
There's three guys that are gonna move a TV rating,
Aaron Judge show Heyo Tani and Bryce Harper. And what's
(07:11):
remarkable is this is the first time in seven years
Otani's made the playoffs. And this is a huge problem
with Major League Baseball. Can you imagine waiting seven years
for Patrick Mahomes to make the playoffs or seven years
for Lebron James to make the playoffs. But in baseball,
some of the greatest players might trout end up on
(07:32):
bad teams and are virtually invisible. They may get a
Subway commercial, that's it. You never see him in the postseason.
So it's always been a problem in baseball is that
your best players can end up on bad teams and show,
Heyotani ends up on a wonky organization. So this is
a huge moment. Your babe Ruth is making his first
(07:54):
playoff appearance. I mean, even Aaron Judge with the cash
heavy Yankees never be to a World Series. Bryce Harper
has and it's why he is one of the stars
sixteen years old. Sports Illustrated put him on the cover,
the chosen One. So baseball has an incredible opportunity here,
three stars, and I would say today, I'm not sure
(08:15):
if the Dodgers can get past the Padres. I am
not sure, but Dodgers, Yankees and Phillies feel like the
favorites and baseball's losing some social currency here. We've got
to be honest about this. Shows like mine and others,
baseball's become an incredibly local sport. They have three national
(08:37):
players and they're all potentially, all potentially you know what
it feels like to me? This feels like Hollywood before
Barbie and Oppenheimer and literally people went back to the theater.
It's like the Avengers, except those guys were on the
same team. These guys are on three different teams. Let's
(08:58):
not get into fact checking like the debate, but the
point is this is an unbelievable opportunity and the Babe
Ruth of this sport is finally going to be in
the postseason. And here's his manager, Dave Roberts it's easy.
Speaker 2 (09:12):
To like him.
Speaker 5 (09:13):
Let these are root for him, fun to watch him.
It's been amazing on the road just seeing how many
people come to just watch him play, and when he
takes his last at bad people tend to leave the ballpark.
But I think it is a credit to you know,
if people just like to watch greatness.
Speaker 1 (09:30):
Yes they do, and I'll tell you I'm not. I don't.
You know, Baseball is a long regular season and I'm
not going to pay a lot of attention to it.
And I'm not really into the wild card series. Although
this is the best San Diego Padre team ever. Padres
Dodgers is going to be incredible. If the Mets, I'm
not supposed to root right, Mets Phillies incredible. There is
(09:51):
an opportunity here. We're going to have two weeks of
the best National League Baseball ratings, attention and just baseball
we have had for years. Nothing against Brewers, Phillies, nothing
against Brewers, Mets. Brewers are good. It doesn't captivate the
nation that Dodger San Diego thing, their recent history, Mets Phillies.
(10:19):
That and Otani's finally in the playoffs potentially huge. You know,
we were we were we were. We have Greg Cosel
in forty five minutes from now. We were talking about
this morning, j Mac. Of the many things on the
Devonte Adams so Saints Jets is kind of percolating a lot,
(10:41):
and both feel like they have a need. I think
the Jets have to pound the table for him. The
fascinating team with the Vonte Adams is Buffalo, because are
you playing keep away from Kansas City? So reportedly Kansas
City Buffalo both interested. So you already kind of gave
the Chiefs a Xavier Worthy in the draft and he's
(11:01):
been a flash player, but there's some spectacular there. If
you don't make a bit on this, are you bidding
on Devonte Adams? You're okay if he goes to the Jets,
they're dysfunctional or the Chargers NFC. But if you're Buffalo,
and there is a story now that Kansas City wants
Davonte Adams, But your question is, we just got out
of the Stefan Diggs drama. Do we want to get
(11:22):
back into the high profile wide receiver who can be
very verbal and expressive drama. Buffalo's in a weird spot.
It almost feels like, all right, they have Xavier Worthy
casas do you make the move to block Kansas City.
Speaker 3 (11:36):
I don't think that's the worst move in the world.
And I will point out Buffalo when they trailed against Baltimore,
had no way to really get back in that game
because they're not an explosive offense down the field. No
gave Davis. That's right, DeVante Adams stretches the field for them.
I will just say I didn't mean to bash the
media at the outset, but usually what happens in these
negotiations is you hear teams instantly, and that can sometimes
(11:57):
be misdirection to get everybody on no questions and Saints
wall quietly. Over here the forty nine ers are saying, Hey,
we don't We're done with Brandon Ayuk. We signed him,
he's your long term guy. How about Brandon Ayuk and
we rent Devon.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
You've said, you've said this before. There is I think
I think the difference is Robert sala Is facing Sam Darnold,
the owner the former UK Ambassadors, gonna have all his
billionaire friends in the box, and the hottest team in
the league is Minnesota. If you get smoked that flight back,
(12:31):
you're sitting next to the owner, and it's going to
be really uncomfortable if you bring in Davante and you
lose to the Vikings. It's hey, like, we got to
get this thing up to speed. But what would happen
in New York and the attention matters. This is an
relevant star franchise. All the attention and pressure would go
to Aaron Rodgers. Now if you're getting starback, two star receivers,
(12:51):
you got two tackles you brought in for big money.
This is now an Aaron pressure team because right now
it's all on Sala. How do you shift that to Aaron?
Because you know Aaron wants Davonte because he wants it
for his legacy.
Speaker 3 (13:03):
Let me ask you, do the Raiders owe Davante Adams anything?
Do they have DeVante says I want to play with
Carr or Rogers. Do the Raiders say sure? Or do
they say I'm sorry, We're just taking the best deal
we caned to just get.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
That's the chiefs.
Speaker 1 (13:15):
That's the chiefs, of course, that's okay, just making sure
absolutely Yeah, that's nothing against I love Devontae Adams, but
I mean teams are going to do what's best for
the organization. And remember DeVante's probably slightly past his prime.
He's older and expensive, so that you're not getting a
first round pick. I think, by the way, Buffalo has
(13:36):
two second round picks in this draft. If you could
get one second round pick and maybe you know a
rotational player, that may be good enough. If I'm losing
Devonte Adams, Can I have your number three receiver and
a second round pick or your number four receiver, a
rotational guy. Can I have a backup tight end something?
But the Bills have two second round picks. I would
(13:58):
use one if I heard Kansas he was about to
sign him. That's where if I was Buffalo, I just
give up one. You do not want Mahomes because here's
the whole thing. You're monitoring the Rashi Rice situation. If
Rashi Rice is out for the year and we don't
know yet, Kansas City is suddenly vulnerable. Kansas City with
Mahomes and Reed are not going to be vulnerable very
(14:21):
often over the next five years. And now you have
a team that is vulnerable worthy, you'll be better next year.
He's still a rookie learning the trade, right, So it's
like these moments when New England was vulnerable or I
mean literally, Lebron's team is vulnerable. You don't get these
moments very often. And if Rashi Rice is out.
Speaker 3 (14:41):
Could that be why we don't know Raci Rice's situation yet.
We don't know how long he's gonna be out. Usually
we know in footy at.
Speaker 1 (14:47):
Appens that injury is a twenty four hour We know.
Speaker 3 (14:49):
Is Kansas City keeping this quiet so they can they
maintain a little bit of leverage as opposed to we're desperate,
we'll overpay for Adams because we.
Speaker 1 (14:57):
Don't have a number one. This Stevan Adam thing. There's
a lot of players here. Usually with star wide receivers,
there's one or two hot teams. But you get to
a point, now you've got a desperate coach in New York.
They'll never say that, but you get boxed by Minnesota.
They're in Big Trump Pittsburgh Tumlin. Do they decide, hey,
we got to shot here. AFC's wide open, why not us?
(15:17):
Healthy defense?
Speaker 3 (15:18):
Justin Field's playing out of hiss.
Speaker 1 (15:20):
The winner is the Raiders. More teams, the more the
Raiders get. Yeah, they need picks because they may have
to cobble many together to get the number one pick.
It's a good point. They if their scouts say, listen,
there's two quarterbacks we like, and they have the third pick,
they may have to get to the second pick and
they'll need another number one or two or three. Yeah,
(15:42):
it's a fun game. Definitely coming up next, who needs politicians?
The NFL old guys at quarterback are elevating the middle class.
We'll talk about that coming up.
Speaker 2 (15:56):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and Noonie's. They're nine am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (16:05):
So it may not look like a big matchup, but
it's Baker Mayfield Kirk Cousins tonight. And we've always talked
about there's six or six or seven great quarterbacks in
the NFL, and then there's the bottom of the NFL,
and then there's sort of the middle class of the NFL. Like,
they're good guys. They're not as dynamic, they're not megastars,
they don't run like Lamar, they don't throw like Mahomes,
but they're good. But this season, like none I ever remember,
(16:27):
the NFL middle class, they've restored the NFL middle class. Gino,
Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield and Andy Dalton are crushing it.
To give you a sense, Donald leads the NFL in
passing touchdowns and passer rating, Baker leads it second in
passing touchdowns and a seventy one percent completion percentage. Geno
Smith has thrown for the most yards, and Andy Dalton
(16:49):
through two games has as many touchdown passes as Aaron
Rodgers does for the season. So, simply put, they're very,
very good at their craft and they're not near is expensive.
So go look at the receiving corps for Sam Darnold,
Geno Smith, and Baker Mayfield, and then go look at
the receiving corps for like Josh Allen or you know,
(17:13):
a Dak Prescott or if Rashee Rice has hurt yikes,
Patrick Mahomes. So I don't know if these guys hoist trophies,
but you win ten to eleven games, everybody in the
building keeps their job. You're not getting fired if you
make the playoffs and lose with Baker Mayfield or Geno
Smith or Sam Donald or Andy Dalton, although I think
(17:35):
that's a long shot, but he's played great, so it's
and I think what you're watching here is the reality
of this league is you have to make decisions. And
that's why guys like me push back on a TUA contract.
If you're gonna pay the big money, which is gonna
limit what you can pay a backup quarterback, an offensive line,
(17:55):
a second corner like Miami, this thing goes sideways. Really
if the quarterback gets hurt. It's why I push back
on Dak Prescott. He's not Lamar Mahomes, Alan or Burrow,
so his contract does matter. It limits what they can
do offensively. So my point is the best place to
be in the NFL is to have a superstar quarterback,
(18:17):
a superstar that we don't argue over. There's an argument,
and I think it's pretty clear. The second best place
to be isn't having Dak. I mean, I just watched
brock perty in an NFC championship. The second best place
to be is having a Dulton, a Baker, a Gino,
and a Darnold not making much but stacking your roster
(18:40):
and then drafting a quarterback and letting him sit. There's
only six guys in the world that do this at
the next level, and even guys we like Jalen Hurts
and Trevor Lawrence suddenly we're not hot on. So you
can go back and forth and argue you don't want
to settle at quarterback, but look at what is happening
to the middle class. Jmack. Blue collar quarterbacks are making
(19:01):
football great again. Mifka, they are making it great again.
And tonight you're gonna see Baker and Kirk Cousins right
now are kind of the middle class guys. They make
good money, they don't make stupannis money. But look at
the weapons both of them have. Look at Darnold's weapons.
If you watched the Seahawks get thirty eight first downs
on the road, They're stacked at running back, tight end,
(19:24):
wide receiver. So it's if you can't have one of
the six great ones, that's what you want. Veterans be guys,
coachable and great, great at their craft. Baker Mayfield talking
about the matchup with Kirk tonight.
Speaker 6 (19:39):
It's a great opportunity for us continue to build what
we've had so far. But you know, I think back
at last year. Every year is different, but think back
at last year. We were three and one at this
point too. Now, I wouldn't say that we operated as
claim and we knew our identity but right now, don't
take anything for granted just because you start three to one.
Like you said, it's the long year. Got to continue
to improve and just build.
Speaker 1 (20:00):
As the eeroes on Darnald Baker Gino. I'm sorry, but
look at the current NFL stats with quarterbacks passing yards,
passer rating, touchdowns yards, it's the guys with stack rosters
who aren't quite as dynamic. J Mack with the News,
(20:21):
this is the herd Line News.
Speaker 3 (20:24):
We'll start with this Bengals Ravens game. How is this
not a primetime game? This is a fantastic one.
Speaker 1 (20:29):
Bengals haven't held up their end of the bargain.
Speaker 3 (20:32):
Yeah, but come on, divisional matchup, you get two of the.
Speaker 1 (20:35):
Top five, I'll watch it.
Speaker 3 (20:37):
Obviously, Bengals did start zer to three before they smashed
Carolina on the road last week. Joe Burrow knows how
big of a moment this week is against the Ravens.
Burrow said, I'm gonna have to play damn near perfect.
That's how I'm preparing. So it's an exciting opportunity. Burrow
has played seven games against Baltimore.
Speaker 1 (20:56):
I just looked this up.
Speaker 3 (20:56):
Twelve touchdowns, four picks. He's shown really well against all
the defenses they've thrown at him. I'm not a believer
in this Ravens defense.
Speaker 1 (21:03):
I don't know if you are. I know they shut
down Buffalo. I think it's an offensive led team. I
would say that total has gone up on the Buffalo
is going to be led by their offense too. Kansas
City right now is led by their defense.
Speaker 3 (21:15):
This should be a fantastic game. I don't know where
are you leaning here?
Speaker 1 (21:19):
So is this just a watch?
Speaker 3 (21:21):
Don't bet?
Speaker 1 (21:22):
There's no real how I feel about it. I thought
Joe Burrow saying this week I have to play quote
a damn near perfect game for us to win is
really enlightening. It tells you why he met with Zach
Taylor after the game. Is this is an organization that
has been cheap. They have been moving off players for
a year before they've even signed Jamar Chase. They are
(21:44):
the Brown family. You can say what you want, you
can push back. Historically cheap. I think they still are.
They're just cheap with a great quarterback. But the reality
is Joe Burrow sitting here saying, well, Kansas City, they
got Chris Jones, they got Spags. It's not just that
you gotta pay Joe Burrow. We all get it. He's
one of those six or seven guys top of the planet.
(22:06):
But I always feel like there are certain ownership groups
that will extend it to the last. They'll put the
chips all the way into the table. Not doing grouponds
as you're waiting for Jamar Chase to be signed, and
I feel like you guys are moving off the back
end of your defense. This is why the back end
of your defense is atrocious.
Speaker 3 (22:24):
It's weird. The Bengals also two losses at home to
the Patriots and Washington. Those are two teams that were
not expected to be good at all, and this is
a big home spot for them as an underdog.
Speaker 1 (22:36):
Yeah, it's kind of their season.
Speaker 3 (22:38):
If I can get a three, it's two and a half.
If I can get a three, I'm taking the bank.
Speaker 1 (22:41):
I don't think it's going there. Yeah, probably, Like everybody knows,
if it gets to a three, that's where all the
money goes.
Speaker 3 (22:46):
Smash spot.
Speaker 1 (22:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (22:47):
Next up is the Cowboys. Brandon Cooks this infection in
his name not great.
Speaker 1 (22:51):
He will be.
Speaker 3 (22:52):
Out this week. Who's the backup? You ask, Colin, It's
a toss up between someone named Jalen Tolbert and someone
named Jalen Brooks.
Speaker 1 (23:00):
Tolbert. Talbert's kind of interesting. It's okay, come on, he's
he's like a number three or four. Yeah, Like right now.
Speaker 3 (23:07):
The Cowboys offense is all Dak and CD. Obviously, defenses
know that despite DeVante Adams being on the market, Mike
McCarthy says he's comfortable with Dallas's pass catching options. We
got some stats here Cowboys receivers. The last three seasons,
Ceedee Lamb has nearly matched every Cowboy receiver combined. Yeah, no,
it's kind of amara.
Speaker 1 (23:27):
It's become a very lobsided offense. It is just Ceedee
Lamb and he's he's been an incredible pro. He's gotten
better every year. They're putting him in the backfield. But
for anybody that always defends Dak's contract, this is why
Dak's contract is an issue. Dak is not mahomes Alan Burrow.
He's not Josh Allen. You're paying him like he is,
(23:50):
So Dak doesn't run around and get you those free
yards like Lamar Josh Allen. Mahomes Can is a scrambler,
and you don't get the elite thrower of Mahomes or
Josh Allen. So like Cowboy fans push back on this.
You paid Dak what you're paying him, that's fine, I
but he is not an elite runner or thrower. And
this is what your franchise looks like. Can't make a
(24:11):
move of the trade deadline, have to hit on every
draft pick, can't run or stop the run, can't make
a move for Derrick Henry. That's what you get. So
go ahead to go to your Reddit board and defend
Dak getting the money. But you are exactly what it
looks like when you pay a really good quarterback top
of the market money a completely lobsided limited team.
Speaker 3 (24:31):
Do you remember when I floated, Hey, I'd rather play
Cooper Rush as my starter than Dak at fifty whatever
mill he got ended up getting sixty. Oh, have you
come around a little bit on Cooper Rush because you'd
have a really good roster around him at Cooper Rush
is your SHA.
Speaker 1 (24:45):
So you'd have DeVante Adams and CD Lamb and probably
an interior defensive line there Henry too, who knows well
you would have Derek Henton.
Speaker 3 (24:53):
I did look at the Pittsburgh secondary. Now the Pittsburgh
offensive lines beat up. That's a concern for the game
Sunday night. But their top two corners are Joey Junior,
the young kid out of Penn State. He's struggled a
lot this year, and then Dante Jackson, so Ceedee Lamb
could have an opportunity for some success here against not
a great secondary, although Mink is always looming on the
back end.
Speaker 1 (25:12):
Cowboys have a rookie left tackle against CJ. Watt. I'm
just saying on the road, hard to hear it. For
Lineman night game, pielof loss, a lot of boxes checked here.
For Pittsburgh, a lot of boxes. And also, you know
it's a go either way game, so you know it's
not really that Pittsburgh's a favorite because Tomlin's a great
(25:33):
underdog coach. But I'm I'm you know it used to
be when when a good team is desperate, I take him.
But I don't consider right Dallas. I don't think their
personnel is very good. I'm not sure it's good. I
think they have one great player, and then Micah is
a really good player. He's not Hutchison, Miles Gare, Mike's
not playing. This sounds like that's what I but I'm
(25:54):
saying even when he does, I don't think he's established
himself outside of media fascination as a Garrett TJ. Watt.
Steelers are one and eleven when t J. Watt doesn't play.
That's insane that you're at rush in literally more than
your quarterback play dictate twins and loss.
Speaker 3 (26:12):
That's a good point. We'll see how the Dallas defense
does with non Lawrence is out too, which hurts those
basically their top two defenders, Lawrence and Parsons.
Speaker 1 (26:18):
Well, you saw the Seahawks without their top defenders this week. Now,
fun game couldn't stop any I think Dallas is going
to struggle to stop the run game at Pittsburgh.
Speaker 3 (26:27):
Final story is c J. Stroud had a really good
rookie year. Some people were worried about when they added
Stefan Diggs because he's, you know, a vocal veteran kind
of talked his way out of Minnesota and Buffalo if
you believed some of the stories online. Digs so far
this season twenty five catches, two hundred thirty three yards,
two touchdowns, and his new quarterback. Stroud says, Digs critics
(26:49):
are all wrong.
Speaker 7 (26:51):
I think he got a bad rap, you know, just
by the media and like people. But I mean he's
not been nothing much, just amazing to this team, to
his teammates. He's helping me out of time and you know,
as you can see, we're clicking more and more every game.
So you know, I'm very happy for him, and you know,
I'm glad that you know, he's finally you know, having
(27:11):
fun playing the game.
Speaker 1 (27:12):
And yeah, I don't think the media was unfair. I
think we saw multiple times instances with he and Josh
Allen had drama. Josh Allen has come out and said publicly,
I like it now nobody cares about their stats. That's
not a media don't remember.
Speaker 3 (27:27):
That wasn't a shot at Diggs. Alan came out to
clarify that's not a shot at Diggs.
Speaker 1 (27:30):
Sure, so I think it's easy where the scapegoat and
sometimes the media does create stuff. But Robert Solid goes
to the microphone three times, starts a fire and then
goes you guys and your crazy controversy. Dude, you're you're
the guy set in the fires.
Speaker 3 (27:46):
By the way, in the event the Jets lose in London,
it's good that it's the Island game because at one
o'clock right after that's done. Bill's Texans is a monster game,
and Ravens Bengals is a huge game, so peopleill quickly
forget about the Jets loss should they go down, because
there's a lot I mean, the one pm slate.
Speaker 1 (28:04):
Is stacked in the history. Think about this in the
history of the and I don't mind them because it
is kind of cool to wake up and have a game.
Because usually what I do, you probably do this. I
get up and do a big workout because I'm going
to be sitting on my butt watching football play ten hours.
So generally Sundays I go on a hike. I can't
do it, so instead Saturday night, I gotta be good,
got to rein it in rain it in Saturday night
(28:25):
to vod Gar. Maybe none, but I would say that
it is really cool that you wake up and it's like, oh,
I got football.
Speaker 3 (28:35):
And good football, good teams.
Speaker 1 (28:37):
And think about all the London games we've had. So
when the NFL started these international games, it was a
lot of Jacksonville Jaguar games. It was a lot of
junk in the history of the London Games, of the
European Games. And I correct me if I'm wrong. Is
this the most fascinating matchup? You have the hottest team
in the league, the Darnold story. You have Aaron Rodgers
(28:59):
going over off a loss to a bad team, solid,
fighting for respect, relevance in a relationship with there's fissures
with Aaron Rodgers. I don't remember a six thirty game
that I was more.
Speaker 3 (29:11):
Into than this Sam Donald revenge spot.
Speaker 1 (29:13):
If this was a one o'clock game, it would be
the one I would watch.
Speaker 3 (29:16):
Yeah, a little nervous, I would be a little bit.
But are you picking this in blazon five Jets?
Speaker 1 (29:25):
It is nice to have one in the bag. It's like,
it's nice to have a nice win in the back.
You given the now remember remember this. The London games
are a little different because some teams show up three
days early. Remember last year there was a team that
showed up very late and won rare.
Speaker 2 (29:42):
That's rare.
Speaker 1 (29:42):
Okay, that was right, wasn't it? Was it Jacksonville, Buffalo's place.
Speaker 3 (29:45):
To show up early, get the bodyclock acclimated all that one.
Speaker 1 (29:48):
That's right. So it's I'm interested. I'm gonna dig upon
this and maybe we can do it during the show.
One of the Jets arriving, one of the Vikings arriving,
because it's the power of Aaron Rodgers. There's nothing that
tells you the Jets will win this game. I mean, now,
you got the Davonte Adams thing hovering over the franchise,
you got the Sala Cadence story, they got an injury
(30:10):
to one of their tackles. The Vikings are the hottest
team in the league. And Aaron Rodgers sucks us saying
and we're all like, I like the Jets. There's nothing
that tells you that Jets are gonna win.
Speaker 3 (30:19):
Just remember after I called Bears and uh, who's the
Bengals last week with confidence? I'm telling you Jets are
in that confidence realm this week.
Speaker 1 (30:27):
Yeah. But I don't just I trust chose a guy.
I don't trust you with the Jets. J Mack with
the news.
Speaker 2 (30:36):
Well that's the news, and thanks for stopping by live.
Speaker 1 (30:40):
I was just told both the Jets and the Vikings
arrive tomorrow in London, all right, so there's no there's
no gap in prep.
Speaker 2 (30:49):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays

Speaker 1 (31:12):
So believe it or not, I used to work for
the San Diego Podres so when I started out of college.
My first job was being a baseball announcer. And people
often say, who are your favorite teams in sports? And
they don't really have them, you know. I like USC football,
I know a lot of people in the building, but
I don't in pro sports. I've said this before. I
root for drama. I root for production. I feel like
(31:32):
a chef. I want good produce. But I did. Used
to work for the San Diego Podres organization for a
couple of years out of college. Treated very well. Great
organization Jack McKee and I think was the GM at
the time. I had really good players. Tony Gwinns the
first person I ever interviewed in my life when I
was a young broadcaster. He was the first person. The
late Tony Gwinns, the first person I ever interviewed, the kindest,
(31:55):
sweetest guy, the best peer hitter, I didn't grow up
with Ted Williams, so he was the best peer hitter.
Wade Bogs was good, Tony was different of all time,
So I've always had a soft spot. Kept my eye
on the Podrays when I was a kid growing up
in the sixties and seventies, or the Seal say the
seventies when I remember it, the Big Red Machine, as
Jmax makes fun of me. I grew up with the
seventy five Cincinnati Reds was my favorite team. The worst
(32:16):
team in baseball was the Podreys. They were atrocious. So
I've always been fascinated by historically bad teams or historically
great teams. Podreys were horrible, then I worked for them.
So this is the most talented team the Podreys have
ever had. But they're the little brother of the Dodgers,
even though they eliminated them in the Divisional Series back
in twenty twenty two. So I sat next to a
Podrey fan last night. They're absolutely stacked, and so I'm
(32:39):
rooting for the Mets today over the Brewers. It's not
Milwaukee's got great scouting department, great young players, but Mets
Phillies is a National Series and baseball's mostly especially even
in the Wildcard round. Feels very local. Feels very very local. Well,
Dodgers Podres is national, and so is Mets and Bryce Harper.
Bryce Harper's my face favorite player right now in the
(33:01):
sport because I haven't followed him since high school in
Las Vegas and the Sports Illustrated cover. But this Dodger
Podre series is crazy. So it's the best Podra roster
I think of all time. Manny Matado, Manny Machado, Tatis.
They got the batting champ Luis Arias. He's great. They
also have a Jackson Merrill who should be I know,
(33:22):
Paul Skins. Everybody loves them. He won eleven games. None
of them were complete. I go with the kid that
plays every day rookie of the year. That's just me.
I think you have to go with the guy that
plays every day for the Rookie of the Year, not
a guy that won eleven games. I know the Pirates
are bad, but I'm sorry. I like everyday players. This
is the best Podre team ever and they have been
annoying to the Dodgers, who are starting to feel a
(33:44):
little bit like the Buffalo Bills, like they have the
best team for several years and they have one shortened
season World Series Championship, and you're like, I mean, it's Freeman,
It's Otani, a modern day Babe Ruth, It's Mookie Betts
has I think thirty thirty one Jacks. Max Munsey's now
healthy again. Now they've had all sorts of pitching injuries.
(34:07):
So but it's a it's a very interesting series. Big brother,
little brother. The difference now the little brother they're spending
money like the big brother. And it's I think this
is going you have to watch every game of this series.
Dodgers Padres and I'm watching the San Diego broke it
open last night in the second inning. I'm gonna let
(34:27):
you listen to the radio calls. But the place Petco Park,
which is if you've ever decide I want to go
to the San Diego Zoo, if you ever want to
go in a cold weather climate to San Diego, go
to the zoo and go to Petco. It is an
unbelievable environment. It just jumped off the TV last night.
And here's the Padres breaking it open in the second inning.
(34:47):
Deeve Livers Ehado swings lines it in the left field.
That's a fair ball. Fin a bounce and roll all
the way to.
Speaker 8 (34:53):
The wall, arise in tatisif scored, pro far will be held.
Manny into second with a two run and the Padres
in front.
Speaker 2 (35:01):
It's three to one.
Speaker 1 (35:02):
Here's the pitch on the way Meryl swing sends it
in the air to deep center field on the line.
Speaker 8 (35:07):
Harris is back at the wall and hits up against
the base of the wall, hops back into playing. Both
runs will score Maryl's on his way to third tatoo
run triple.
Speaker 1 (35:17):
So the two best records since the All Star break
are the Podreys and the Dodgers, and since June the Mets,
I believe of the hottest team. So this Dodger Podres series,
I mean, just think all the players you have, Mookie Bets,
Shoheo Tani, Freddie Freeman, Manny Machado, Tatis, the batting champ,
(35:44):
a guy that should be Rookie of the Year. Both
the Podreys and Dodgers made moves at the trading deadline
to improve it is. I mean, I'm telling you these
teams are stacked. And I know him a baseball casual
and I don't even care really about the wild card stuff.
But when you get into the next round. If it's
Met's Phillies and it's Podreis Dodgers, that will be the biggest.
(36:05):
The American League has the Yankees, but does not feel
as fortified this National League stuff. And I think as
a kid I grew up, I was more of a
pirate Philly Dodger Red fan, so I was always more
of a National League Both now use the DH. It's
just going to be incredible baseball. And you and I
would classify ourselves, says, we sort of join the party
(36:26):
almost like soccer. You watch soccer more than I do,
but we both love the World Cup. When the World
Cup starts, I mean, you and I'll sit home and
we'll watch games all day with our friends. My buddies
are all soccer guys, and baseball is the same way
as I'm not going to tread through the regular season.
Even the wild card round feels very local. But baseball
and soccer have a way of college basketball does this
(36:49):
for March. I mean, the NFL really is a year
round sport. Baseball, college basketball, soccer is unbelievable. When there's urgency,
sudden death, quick series, Dodgers, Podreys. People in southern California,
right now and those fans will drive up and back
in my podre Buddies drive down, drive up.
Speaker 3 (37:11):
Padres have one of the cooler logos dating back for
a while. I love the color scheme. But quick question
about the Mets. So they're in control of the series,
about to put away the Brewers and collapse last night.
And anytime you say momentum, baseball fans are like, wait
a minute, doesn't exist. Momentum is the next day's pitcher.
But we talk about momentum in the NFL. Steelers off
a loss, going home like they've got it. That Mets
(37:34):
game tonight, well, this afternoon worries me a little bit.
I don't know, man, the.
Speaker 1 (37:39):
Way they say people say home field doesn't matter in baseball.
Go watch the Phillies play at home. It feels absolutely
like an advanced electric If you were watching the Podreys
game last night, it was insane. The crowds. You can't
tell me that doesn't energize a player. If you're a
baseball player and you come to the plate and you
(38:00):
see that crowd and they're waving all those towels. We've
always known football because of the crowd and audibles. It
used to be worth three points, but then they've got
stuff in the helmets now and silent count. So football,
home field advantage is about a point and a half
a game, maybe two if at Seattle, like bon Nix
is a rookie, to Seattle's probably two or three. But
in baseball there's always this. It doesn't really matter. I'm
(38:22):
telling you. The old Yankee Stadium, not the new one.
The old Yankee Stadium was intimidating. I mean, how many
times could Jeter come from behind? I mean it was
like good players for the Yankees, a Scott Brocious guys
would go to another level at home in big spots,
and and so I when I watch Philadelphia and San Diego,
(38:44):
those stadiums feel like they're an edge. Oh yeah, big time.
Speaker 3 (38:47):
By the way, good night in sports, Right, you get
Mets Brewers, then that dovetail's right into Falcons Bucks, which
is a sneaky good divisional matchup.
Speaker 1 (38:55):
That's gonna be a closet, I thought last night. So
last night I went out to see a friend and
I stopped by to watch the end of the Mets
Brewers and the Padres Braves. I thought last night was
a really sneaky good night for sports and the Mets
had it, and then here come, here come the Brewers
to steal it. I'm gonna take the Mets, don't. I
don't follow him enough to be an expert on it.
(39:16):
They got Both pitchers are fine today. But I do
think for the sport, Mets Phillies feels gi Gett. Didn't
Major League Baseball send Mets Phillies over to London earlier
this year as.
Speaker 3 (39:29):
Much Phillies, by the way, I remember that last year.
Speaker 1 (39:34):
No, it's one hundred sixty two games. Nobody plays great
for one hundred sixty two games. You have injuries. I mean,
that's one of the reasons I love Jackson Merrill. Dude
plays every day. I mean to be it is what
makes baseball unique is the grind nothing against pitchers. That's
every fourth day, and now you don't throw complete games.
(39:56):
The guy that plays every day through injuries, that's gonna
be my rookie. The year those guys win the awards.
