You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
We get a show today Wednesday, live in Los Angeles.
It's The Herd. Dave Roberts, Dodger manager, stops five biggest
game of the year for the Dodgers and the mess.
We're in Los Angeles. It's the Herd. Wherever you may
be and however you may be listening. Thanks for making
us part of your day. One hour from now, Joel
klad Off the biggest college football weekend of the season. Jmac,

(00:51):
you know this time every four years we get the Olympics, joyful,
the world come. We love that, joyful, and a presidential
election that's not as joyful that that creates anxiety for
a lot of people. Right, So today I want to
talk about the value of repetition, the value of consistency.

(01:16):
I tell my kids this all the time. If you
got to go to bed within an hour the same
time every night. Pick the hour ten thirty, got to
go to bed by nine thirty, ten thirty or eleven thirty. Consistency.
I've seen this my whole life. Inconsistent people that do
not create habits, Anxiety gets ramped up and they're a

(01:42):
chaotic person. So everybody's gonna have chaotic times. There's going
to be anxiety in all of our lives. Repetition is underrated.
Consistency is underrated. You don't have to win every day.
And I'm watching the New York Jets and Woody Johnson,
the owner who runs through coaches. Listen to the word

(02:06):
he uses when asked about all the moves. You want
to bring a lot of change this week? Do you
just have to go with your instinct and what's the
best best thing to build a team and build a
winning team and build the most importantly, build a culture.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
Are you still optimistic that this season is selvageable.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
We're gonna check.

Speaker 3 (02:27):
You can add the words after that, We're gonna we're
gonna do really well.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
We want to bring a lot of change. That's all
the Jets are is change. He thinks change will create culture.
The opposite is true. Repetition, not a need to win
every day on the internet. The winning is franchised in
New York and it's not close. Is the New York

(02:56):
Yankees and the Steinbrenners have owned them the family since
the early seventies, and Brian Cashman has been the GM
and all the noise on the interweb and talk radio
in New York has fired Brian Cashman, longest tenured Yankee
GM ever ninety eight until today. Aaron Boone, you want

(03:16):
him fired after every losing streak year seven as a manager.
Even John Carlos Stanton and Aaron Judge have been the
power hitters for what the last seven eight years. Garrett
Cole new guy, Not really, He's been their ace for
five years. I mean they'll occasionally bring on a flashy star,
Jazz Chisholmer, Juan Soto, but the Yankees are about culture

(03:38):
and stability, not needing to win every single weekend. I mean,
the Jets, had they beaten Robert Sally got fired, had
he won Monday Night, and I think they would have
won with him as a coach because the defense wasn't good.
They'd have been in first place. Woody Johnson thinks the
answer is change. God. I mean, look at the Dodgers.

(04:01):
Dave Roberts on our show today, nine seasons, Dodgers fans
constantly complaining about him. But Mark Walter the owner nine years,
Andrew Friedman the GM nine years, Clayton Kershaw forever. I mean,
they'll go buy new players. Lon Rosen's been around the
organization as a vice president forever, same voices, same people,

(04:24):
same intellect, same strategy, year after year after year. And
Woody Johnson wants change, so he fires his best coach
on the staff, and what do you know, The defense
has leaks. Change is not the answer. I mean, it'd
be one thing if the Jets were hopeless, but they're
the best two to four team in the league. They're

(04:46):
defensive personnel is excellent. They have a running back who's
a star. They finally used him, Aaron's talented. Change is
not what they need. Poorly run franchises, that's always the answer.
But you know, franchises that don't make big sweeping changes.
Brady and Belichick, the Yankees don't, the Dodgers don't, the

(05:07):
Warriors don't. They finally moved off. Clay finally passed his prime, finally,
but it's still Steph and Draymond. It's still Steve Kerr.
The GM left on his own, or they would have
kept him same ownership. Kansas City Chiefs. They don't make
big radical changes. I mean it's the Jets. I mean

(05:30):
the franchise. It's so obvious, the franchises that constantly make
changes in the NFL, Carolina Jets, Raiders, Browns, How they
do it. It's just insane to me. You know what
the Jets have become. They've become Kramer on Seinfeld. They
break through the door every week with a new idea.

(05:50):
And while he was very, very entertaining, Kramer was known
as the crazy one. Change isn't the answer in a
league that's fluid. It could be tech, it could be politics,
it could be sports. Repetition, underrated, don't worry about winning,

(06:11):
Twitter or the press conference. Yankees here they are again
looking right at another World Series opportunity. It's amazing. We
want change, Okay, Kramer whatever, new idea every day. So
I'm reading a story here this morning. He's very excited.
You know, I love Chicago. Caleb Williams. Has he finally

(06:33):
broken the bears seventy five year curse? So since the
beginning of the AFL NFL merger nineteen sixty seven. They've
drafted a lot of quarterbacks in the first round. Trubisky
and Rex Grossman and all these guys. None of them
are really panned out. I mean McMahon did sort of.
But I was looking at the NFL standings this morning.
The first place teams. AFC East Best Quarterback leads Josh Allen,

(07:01):
AFC North Best Quarterback, Lamar Jackson leads AFC South. Best
Quarterback leads c J. Stroud, AFC West Best quarterback leads
Patrick Mahomes NFC East. I'm sorry, Jaden Daniels throws the
ball better than Dak, moves better than Dak, doesn't make
the turnovers of Jalen Hurts. He's the best quarterback. Sam

(07:23):
Donald's playing like the best quarterback, although I think Golf
or Jordan Love are, but Sam Donald's playing like the
best quarterback. He'd be the highest MVP vote getterer in
that division as of today. As a quarterback. Kirk Cousins
leads his division. And by the way, I think Matt
Stafford's better than Brock pretty. Brock Pretty's good. So pretty simple.

(07:44):
Quarter one third through the regular season, we already see
who leads the division, the best quarterback in the division,
or a really good quarterback playing the best in division.
That's it. And I think six games in a career
as a quarterback, you're going to see two things. Red flags.
You see those immediately red flags or really excellent traits.

(08:06):
Take Jaden Daniels. I mean Jaden Daniels, super mobile, web
of average, really accurate. The coaches loved Jaden Daniels at LSU.
They could not stop complimenting it him in camp. Remember
that in camp, you never hear a coach and a
coordinator gush over a rookie quarterback. They're always like, be patient,

(08:27):
it takes time. They were like, this kid's amazing. He's amazing.
Everybody loves him. I've seen enough Jaden Daniels. I don't
see any red flags. I see nothing but excellent traits.
He's a franchise quarterback. Now. It may take a while.
Baker Mayfield and Sam Donald, Baker wasn't mature enough for

(08:48):
the tire fire known as the Cleveland Browns. He's more
mature now, and Sam Donald needed a great offensive coach,
Kevin O'Connell. The Jets couldn't provide that his mechanical flaw.
And I don't think either of those guys qualify as
good as Caleb Williams. But my point is six games
is enough. I look at bow Nicks. He is Drew

(09:09):
Brees accurate, He'll get in Sean Payton's face. He's mobile.
Drew Brees was mobile early in his career, much more
than later in his career. I look at bow Knicks.
Does he have a big arm. No, Breeze didn't throw
it deep well, especially in the latter part of his career.
Bow Knicks didn't have a big arm. He got a
lower ceiling. He's smaller than Look at Lamar Jackson. He
is not as twitchy, but he's super mobile, much more

(09:31):
mobile than you think, accurate, and he's a leader, not
a follower. And he, by the way, Caleb's got more talent.
And Jayden Daniels has more talent that Denver roster. Vegas
had him over under his a five win team. So
he's having to elevate in a division with Herbert and
Mahomes having to elevate a really average roster. And then
there's Caleb Williams. He just keeps getting better every week,

(09:57):
big arm, moves exceedingly well, very good with the media.
I mean I watched Caleb Williams. It was funny Justin
Fields in Chicago and in Pittsburgh. It's always one step
forward and two steps back, back to back games in
Pittsburgh Justin Fields passer rating and completion percentage of Dippt.
It's not that way with Caleb Williams. Every week passer

(10:18):
rating goes up, completion percentage goes up. You see ascension,
not one step forward two steps back. So with Justin
Fields you can buy into it. But it's hype even
now in Pittsburgh. He has a winning record, and Mike
Tomlin's like, yeah, I think I'm gonna try Russell Wilson.
So six games in, I think you can say it.

(10:38):
The Bears solved their seventy five year drought. This is it.
This is what it looks like. Really talented getting better,
appears to take the coaching, a feel for the pocket.
Washington I grew up, Washington had a different name and
they were dominant. Joe Gibbson before that, George Allen, Jaden
Daniels is good. This is what a franchise quarterback looks like.

(10:58):
I see bow Knicks. Yes, he doesn't run around like
Jayden Daniels or Caleb, but he is athletic. He doesn't
have the big arm of Caleb. He's not as good
as Caleb, but it looks like a franchise quarterback to me,
and it didn't take me along with Herbert or Burrow
or c. J. Stroud either. Six games is enough to
have certain declarations. Matt Hasselbeck this week on why Caleb

(11:20):
Williams in Chicago was having the early success.

Speaker 4 (11:23):
He's throwing on time, in rhythm with the quick game,
and that's very important because you're avoiding sacks, you're getting
the ball out of your hands into the hands of
the athletes. But then where he's exceptional is when plays
take a little bit longer and you're throwing the ball
down field. His scramble ability is translating from the college
game to the pro game, and that doesn't always happen

(11:44):
with guys. So I think the combination of obviously they're
playing good around him playing well, but the quick game
is working, and then the exceptional explosive plays that you
saw at SC they're still there as well.

Speaker 1 (11:56):
Good stuff. Matt Hasselbeck joining us in studio Joel Klatt
four five minutes from now, Dave Roberts a couple of
hours from now. Biggest game of the year for the
Mets and the Dodgers. Can't wait for that. And it
is interesting. I'll go back to my initial rant on
Woodie Johnson. It is fascinating when you watch poorly run
businesses think the answer is sweeping change. That's not the

(12:19):
answer for problems. Just think, are you a little bit
to having some anxiety here over the presidential election? If
you want to alleviate some of that, get up at
the same time, go to the bed at the same time,
have a steady life. It's amazing. It just brings all
the anxiety down. That's what the Jets need. It'd be

(12:39):
nice if the Jets were only chaotic every four years,
like our politics. J Mac, I know, I know what
you're saying. I know you're rolling your eyes because you
live a crazy lifestyle. You're out there on the beach.

Speaker 3 (12:50):
I'm doing crazy things.

Speaker 2 (12:52):
It's interesting.

Speaker 3 (12:53):
So that little rant about quarterbacks six games.

Speaker 1 (12:57):
In and yeah, yeah, for the truth, for the true one,
for the really great one you pretty much sold.

Speaker 3 (13:01):
Are you also the kind of guy who goes on
one date with a woman, and oh that's the one.
She's the one I know after.

Speaker 1 (13:07):
A date eight minutes I knew I was gonna marry
Anne eight minutes in. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (13:11):
Interesting, I need to see more from these quarterbacks, just
like I'm not sold on the first date. People can
fake the funk on a date. Colin, Come on, you
could act like who you think, well they want you
to be.

Speaker 1 (13:21):
Yeah, the good gms don't get fooled on that date.
The bad gms do no know. Caleb Williams up some
really real Sade. You'll say to yourself, what about Baker
and Darnold. I don't think they're nearly as talented as
Jadeen Daniels and Caleb Williams. They're not. No, no, God no.
Jayden Daniels has had MVP. It's gonna be an MVP
multiple times. Lamar Jackson's an MVP multiple times. Jayden Daniels

(13:46):
is Lamar is Lamar Jackson. But that's what you're watching, folks, potentially. Yeah,
I mean that I watched him play last Weekend. That's
what you're watching again. You can have a reboot to
your career, Sam and Baker, but those are flawed. Baker's
smaller than you want. Sam can be more reckless than
you want. I don't see that with Jaden Bow or Caleb.

(14:08):
I don't think When I watched Jaden Daniels and Lamar
Jackson play last week, I'm convinced big Stage. Is he
as good as Lamar? No, he's not. Lamar is one
of the top three guys in the planet doing that.
But I see all the quality traits, footwork, doesn't panic,
moves well accurate. I think he's better than Lamar. In
the pocket is a rookie. I think Lamar has become

(14:29):
very good, but it took him a couple of years.
That's okay, But I don't six. I always use this
acknology when you watch The Voice or American Idol when
you I don't know anything about music. I like it,
but I don't know anything about it. I'm a novice.
I could listen to somebody for thirty seconds and go
hack lounge singer star. It didn't take much for Kerrie Underwood.
Two notes. You're like, Yep, that's gonna sell. That's gonna

(14:51):
sell records. It doesn't take that long. Tell me all
the slow developing. You could say, Well, Brady Brady was
not that slow developing. First year he started, he won
a super Bowl. It wasn't that slow developed, Lamar. He
was an MVP the first year he started. This idea
justin Herbert's first game when he got inserted into the
game against Mahomes. By the end of the game, we
were all saying, Holy hell, he's good. It doesn't take

(15:15):
long to see great. It takes a while to figure
out good. But you can see awful or you can
see great. You see traits or red flags really fast.

Speaker 3 (15:28):
I like this glass app full colum to start a Wednesday,
that's all. It's very positive.

Speaker 1 (15:32):
I don't want to be negative. Guy, God anxiety in America.
Want to settle everybody's nerves down.

Speaker 2 (15:38):
Be sure to catch live editions of the Herd weekdays
and noon Easter not a Empacific.

Speaker 1 (15:43):
You know what. Ben Roethlisberger sometimes he was in the shadow,
obviously of Brady and Manning, who were more commercial and
and on TV more. But Big Ben was a great quarterback.
He's a Hall of Famer. There's no question. It was different.
He was like he had some Cam Newton qualities. Off script,
big arm. You know, you get to super Bowls and

(16:06):
win them, you know, you hoist the trophy, you're a
different level. So he's a first ballot Hall of Famer.
He's got a podcast called Football and with Ben. And
here's the thing about Ben is that he left, how's
the offense been? And for years and years the media, Hey,
they would take le'vy on Bell side, or they would
take the A B side. They won when A B left,
it was it was fine. They've they've won games. And

(16:30):
you know when when Livy and Bell left, those good players.
But but when Ben left, the franchise now offensively is
not competent. It's just a bad, bad offense. Nothing's good.
And they've got better players than I think their data
would illustrate. I think Mike Tomlins a very good coach,
but I think they don't. They have an identity on offense,
and it's not a good one. I'll get to that

(16:50):
in a second. But here's Big Ben talking about the
story that Russell Wilson now may be inserted in as
a starter for just a Fields who's four and two.

Speaker 5 (17:02):
I would absolutely not even think about taking him out
of the game right now. I would keep him in there,
and even if he has a bad game, I would
keep him in there because right now they're rolling. Yeah,
they lost too, they got this win. But I think
he's playing well enough. You know, I think he's doing enough.
You saw with his legs, especially making things happen, creating. Yeah,

(17:23):
so Ben know's offense.

Speaker 1 (17:24):
You're gonna take his word for it, and he understands
again constant change is not the answer. So a lot
of this with Russell and Justin Fields, I concentrated a
lot of the personalities. It is a weird quarterback room.
Russell is very brand aware, almost corporate and commercial. It's
it's he's always got a saying, it's go Hawks, mister unlimited,

(17:48):
let's ride. You know, there's always sort of a saying
with it. And and and Justin Fields is chill. He
doesn't even have a brand, doesn't appear to be that
interested in it. Just a nice kid, authentic. Everybody likes him.
But here's the thing. Great offenses and all of you
know this, they have an identity. When I think of
Kansas City, I think of clever, innovative, and really resourceful.

(18:10):
Kansas City squeezes every bit of juice out of the orange,
very resourceful. When I think of San Francisco and Kyle
Shanahan physical. It all starts with physicality, like Kansas City clever,
maybe not as resourceful, but very very clever and very
lean into physicality. So the Steelers have an identity too,

(18:33):
and this is apparently something they're attracted to. Two quarterbacks
that get sacked a lot, run more than they should,
that aren't very good from the pocket, and are one
on one year deals. That's basically the Steelers idea of
quarterback neither as great in the pocket. Film shows you
that the most two sacked quarterbacks in the league the

(18:54):
last two years. They hold on the ball too long,
they run too much. That's why they at times justin
Field gets banged up a lot. The offensive lines aren't
good at Pittsburgh, and they have running back talent, but
they never seem to run the ball with authority. So
they look at these two guys who hold onto the ball,
get sacked too much, aren't great from the pocket, run

(19:15):
too often, and that's their idea of what works. It's
just not is. So they've got an identity, but what
they really don't know is offense. This does not win.
In twenty twenty four, getting sacked a lot, running too much,
bad from the pocket, it doesn't win. So you could
say they don't have an offensive identity. The franchise has

(19:37):
an identity, and that tells you that illustrates Tomlin's excellence.
Their defense has an identity, tough, physical, resilient. Their organization
has a philosophy, draft and develop over big spending again,
tough physical, draft, well developed, resilient. So the brand has

(20:00):
an identity. The defense under Tomlin has an identity, and
the offense has one too, But it's the opposite of
what wins today. Quarterbacks who are weak from the pocket
are weaker than league average, run too much, get hurt,
get sacked too much behind battle lines. So don't tell
me they don't have an identity. That's what they think works.
Since Big Ben left j Mack with a news no.

Speaker 2 (20:25):
Turns, this is the herdline news.

Speaker 3 (20:29):
Let's start with the Detroit Lions and Aiden Hutcheson. That
injury was brutal, kind of marred the blowout of the
Cowboys on Sunday. Hutchison was the favorite for the Defensive
Player of the Year award, and many speculate he could
hold the Lions back from getting to a Super Bowl.
Head coach Dan Campbell vehemently disagrees.

Speaker 6 (20:48):
Well, I mean we can stop playing. You want to
just end the season now, Well you do that, let's
just call it up. No, it's not over. This is
why you go through all the training you do, and
this is why we dress all the time here. And
the players know this.

Speaker 1 (21:02):
Now.

Speaker 6 (21:02):
We played with three phases here and we will find
a way to play any game in every game and
find a way to win. And because that's all that matters.

Speaker 1 (21:12):
They're gonna be fine. But he matters a lot. He
matters a lot. We've seen two moves yesterday at the
trade deadline on our show. You don't have to necessarily
get somebody as good as Max Crosby, but I would
consider making a move for something slightly below Max Crosby.
I would consider it.

Speaker 3 (21:33):
Look at those numbers Hutches has put up this year
in the Garrett class.

Speaker 1 (21:37):
Oh no, no, he's he's separated from everybody except like.

Speaker 3 (21:40):
Michael Parsons is not on this life. Sorry Michah Parsons beast.

Speaker 1 (21:44):
He's different.

Speaker 3 (21:45):
So Colin, I had a gambler on my podcast and
I'm talking about this, like, we know quarterbacks are worth
a touchdown whatever to the spread, can you quantify what
you think Hutchinson's worth to the spread. If anything, maybe
he's not worth a point, maybe a quarter pointers.

Speaker 1 (22:00):
Well, I don't consider him in betting terms, but what
I do consider him is this is a powerful offense
that plays with leads. Powerful offenses that have leads in
the fourth quarter need pass rushers. When Bill Pollian drafted
Peyton Manning, he told me, once he goes, we knew
we would lead in the fourth quarter in ninety percent

(22:21):
of our games and people would be throwing the ball,
so you need So what do they do, Dwight Freeney?
They always had pass rushers. So when you find a
franchise quarterback, that's job one. You find a franchise quarterback
and you protect him and get him the right coach.
If you have one, you will lead in the fourth
quarter most games. Now your second thing to get his

(22:43):
pass rushers. That's why the Raiders, I think, are reluctant
to give up Max Crosby, because if they land the
right franchise quarterback in the draft, you play with a lead,
You're not going to find another Max Crosby on the market.
There's five great pass rushers in the whole league. One come.
You know, the Bosa family provides a couple of them,
So I I think it's easier to give up a
wide receiver like Devonte Adams for the Raiders, that Max Crosby,

(23:05):
this team, that offensive line, those backs, goff Ben Johnson.
Who's gonna lead them in the fourth quarter in big games?
Maybe Green Bay, maybe San Francisco. You got to get
a dude.

Speaker 3 (23:19):
I my read on that as you're I guess under
qualifying what Hutchison means, Colin forget about like leads. This
secondary has been torched a lot, even down the.

Speaker 1 (23:31):
Field five years.

Speaker 2 (23:32):
Right when you remove.

Speaker 3 (23:34):
Hutchison, now there's no pass rush at all, So now
the secondary is really up up the creek.

Speaker 1 (23:38):
Without that, I would call Jacksonville.

Speaker 3 (23:42):
Make a run at Allen, or you can even go
after Clowney on the Panthers. Clowney is not what he was,
but he's somebody to get to the quarterback.

Speaker 1 (23:50):
And I think you'd have to give up too much
for I think Max Crosby gets a first and I
don't think you want because I think next year, I
don't think Detroit has a lot of needs. I mean,
make this argument when you look at Detroit, this is
fascinating when you look at Detroit, what do they need?
Not a lot?

Speaker 2 (24:08):
Well, so your defense has been leaky.

Speaker 1 (24:11):
Okay, but a lot of them are young and ascending.
They don't have a big need. Yeah, okay. So my
take is you can give up a first round pick.
You can give it up.

Speaker 3 (24:22):
You don't like to just give up a first Well,
you wouldn't Max Crosby six for Crosby.

Speaker 1 (24:26):
Come on, I'm not. I'm not giving you Max Crosby
for a two and a six, two and a three.
He's more.

Speaker 3 (24:33):
Maybe you need Max crosbut Max Crosby is more valuable
than Devonte Adams right now because of where Adams is.

Speaker 1 (24:40):
Yeah, the NFL draft gives you one great pass rusher
a year. It gives you about twelve good receivers.

Speaker 3 (24:47):
Yeah, the Lions have to do something. I'm sorry, Dan Campbell,
I I gotta do.

Speaker 1 (24:51):
I think the Detroit Lions have drafted so well with
Holmes the GM. They can give up a first round pick.
They don't an absolutely. They got their tackles, they got
their weapons, they got their quarterback. It's an okay, quarterback draft.
You're not gonna go replace Golf for any of these
guys in the draft, give up your first runner and

(25:12):
go get an elite three year pass rusher, and when
hutches back, you have two.

Speaker 3 (25:17):
Hutchins is gonna be out a while. That injury is
pretty brutal, but he might not even start next season.
We'll see anyways. Moving on to second story. Remember that
clip from Hard Knocks, Giants owner John Mara telling GM
Joe Shane that he didn't want to lose Saquon Barklay
to the Eagles. Well that's exactly what happened. Saquon returns
to New York, this time little revenge game for Saquon Barkley.

(25:39):
He said, I don't expect a great reaction. I don't
expect to get boot. I look at it like this.
The Eagles and the Giants have probably played over two
hundred games. This rivalry was there before me, and it's
gonna be there after me.

Speaker 1 (25:51):
I like him so much. I like him. He's such
a great player, makes sense of this lae. Every time
he talks, he says something smart. He really has handled
this whole thing like a pro.

Speaker 3 (26:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (26:00):
I mean, seriously, Squon is a pro.

Speaker 3 (26:03):
I just I don't get why the Eagles are only
three point favorites in this game.

Speaker 1 (26:07):
I'm just I could I could two words, Nick Sirianni.
The Giants have the better coach.

Speaker 3 (26:12):
I got two words for you, Saquon Barkley. This is
gonna you know, the whole Eagles team is gonna be like, hey,
you gotta get revenge on these guys. They didn't want
you seventy five yards of offense.

Speaker 1 (26:22):
Now Giants have major concerns. Yeah, Thibodeau's out and now
they're left tackles out. So I am stay and you
know I've been defending the Giants. Stay away. Andrew Thomas
out is a major problem.

Speaker 3 (26:36):
So the Sirianni stuff's interesting. Somebody from Philly text to
me a smart thing. Uh. Is the media going so
after Sirianni so much that in the Eagles locker room
they're like, man, screw the outside noise. It's us against
the world, and they hunker down and the Eagles can
pick up for their kind of embattled coach and start
to play great. Is that on the table for the

(26:58):
Eagles here? It's kind of counter of what everybody's saying. Oh,
they're gonna bail on Sirianni, They're gonna fire him. What
if the opposite is true, that Sirianni knows he screwed up, apologized,
brought his kids to the press conference, He's apologized. Remember
this offseason he was like an apology tour with the
Jalen Hurts. I just wonder if this is a let's
hunker down us against the world.

Speaker 1 (27:17):
Well, I worry about people that have to apologize constantly.
Why are they doing that? That's that's kind of Andy
Reid doesn't spend a lot of time apologizing. Anybody that
has to apologize three, four or five times a year
generally in any industry, it's problem. You're taking swings you shouldn't.
My wife always says, don't go where you shouldn't go,

(27:38):
don't do what you shouldn't do. Sirianni is constantly going
places he shouldn't go, shousting with fans.

Speaker 3 (27:46):
Is this gonna be Blazing five for you or no?

Speaker 1 (27:48):
It was? It's no longer and the Giants. I like
the Giants, but Andrew Thomas injury. I'm out. Okay, So
I already told you I locked in on the rams
at five. You see, yep, I get five because I
said it Monday three times. I took the I took
the Rams at minus five, it's now minus seven.

Speaker 3 (28:06):
Yeah, that's been fuddling to me that that line. Final story,
Colin is Andy Reid one of the best coaches in
the NFL. How about the stat? Everybody loves it.

Speaker 2 (28:14):
Andy Reid twenty one and four straight.

Speaker 3 (28:17):
Up after the week off in his career that's by
ended when they get the buy in the playoffs twenty
one and four, COFs eight and three in the spot
as a head coach of the Chiefs, the Niners have
extra rest two because they're their Thursday night game. Chiefs
obviously had the full extra week. Travis kelceon visiting the
Yankees game, which is Patrick Mahomes, was watching some baseball.

Speaker 1 (28:37):
First of all, the last three times I've bet against
Andy Reid, I've made a huge mistake.

Speaker 3 (28:43):
Yeah, probably best to just say it.

Speaker 1 (28:45):
And there's so much of me that thinks this is
a Niners moment. Yeah, because I mean, the Kansas City
keeps beating them, so it's like San Francisco's gonna win
one of these games. They're too good.

Speaker 3 (28:57):
Casey's won the last five. You have to go back
to like twenty four for a Niners appreciate.

Speaker 1 (29:02):
The only team in the league, the San Francisco forty
nine Ers can't.

Speaker 3 (29:04):
Beat I got a ton of stuff on this game.
I was gonna pick it for headlines Friday. I just
don't know. Patrick Mahomes is an underdog. You ready eleven
one and one against us Bread. Why would you bet
against him? I would? I want to take the Niners.

Speaker 1 (29:19):
I don't know that I have the This is ultimately
the greatest compliment to the Kansas City Chiefs. Think about
the two organizations that can't beat them, Ravens Niners, who
beat the living crap out of virtually everybody else, beat
the crap out of teams they can't beat Kansas City.
The gap between New England Brady and Belichick and their

(29:41):
prime was much greater than you thought. The gap between
Kansas City and San Francisco and Baltimore and Buffalo is
much greater than we think. Maybe those are.

Speaker 3 (29:52):
This is Casey team. This Casey team is not great.
We can agree on that. I know they're undefeated.

Speaker 1 (29:56):
They're not great better than last year.

Speaker 3 (29:59):
What when they're leaning on Kareem hunting Jujus with Schuster?

Speaker 1 (30:03):
Did last year have a deep Throe had receive.

Speaker 3 (30:05):
Rice last year he was good as a rookie. He's
better than anybody they have. Now, come on, Travis Kelce
was at wast last year.

Speaker 1 (30:11):
This team is better than last year.

Speaker 3 (30:14):
Snead has gone. Come on, they're no way. Are they better?
No way?

Speaker 1 (30:20):
Already bought my jet ski Chief Swimming super Bowl. J
Mack with the news.

Speaker 2 (30:25):
Well that's the news, and thanks for stopping by The
Herd Line News.

Speaker 1 (30:31):
So trade deadline deals. Two teams in the AFC East
made a move for a wide receiver and that's where
the comparisons end. We'll talk about that Joel Klatt and
Dodger manager Dave Roberts coming up later.

Speaker 2 (30:49):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and Noon Easter not a em Pacific Tonight.

Speaker 3 (30:54):
On FS one. It's Game three of the NLCS, with
the series tied at one. Game of Pee Otani and
the Dodgers lo the fight back while the indoor in
the Mets game to take control. Cousage begins at seven
pm Eastern form Pacific tonight on F State.

Speaker 1 (31:10):
By the way, it's four o'clock Pacific. How good is
that early afternoon? I watched the Gats The one advantage
of the West Coast those baseball playoff games. The one
advantage is, well, well, there's a lot of great things on
the East coast. One advantage beautiful falls, amazing summers, amaze.

Speaker 3 (31:30):
You clearly haven't spended on summers on the East Coast.

Speaker 1 (31:34):
So yesterday, Jets get Devonte Adams, Bills get Amari Cooper.
Two very productive receivers, two teams in the AFC East.
But it's two totally different reasons. The Jets off a loss,
it's a semi panic, and it's expensive. He's a noisy,
expensive receiver, though very talented, and I like him. The

(31:56):
Bill's after a win or already a good offense. He
can make potentially the offense better. They're paying nothing for him,
that's the difference. The Bills feel strategic, a smart organization
making a smart move to take an offense with a
young star receiver, but they feel like they need a

(32:18):
veteran presence in the room can add production to an
already productive offense. And Amari is a steady, quiet, pro,
well thought out and strategic. Let's be honest about the
Devonte Adams move for the Jets. It's another Aaron Rodgers
hail Mary. Maybe not a seventy yard hail Mary, but
a forty five to fifty yard hail Mary. It's expensive.

(32:42):
He's gonna want touches. How's Garrett Wilson feel about this?
Garrett Wilson is there one? Is Garrett Wilson happy now
being a two? It does have a little bit of
a regis I'd like to use my lifeline feel to it.
So I don't love the move. I don't think it's
a disaster. But we remember Garrett Wilson is getting fifteen
twenty targets. He's the one. Is he comfortable now being

(33:04):
a two? You're not bringing Davante and that price tag
much more than Garrett Wilson makes. Matt It's something so
on the surface, it's Devonte Adams. On the surface, it
looks like it's the same move. But Davonte Adams is
joining the Jets to help create a culture in New York.
Amari Cooper is already joining a winning culture upstate New York.

(33:28):
So they're not the same. And by the way, here
was Nick Wright yesterday on Davante to the Jets and
how Aaron's just kind of become the opposite of Patrick Mahomes.

Speaker 7 (33:41):
He is the anti Patrick Mahomes. You give Patrick Mahomes
the ball with a chance to win the game, you
trust he is going to go win the game. And
after the game, if they don't win, no matter how
outrages it sounds, he's going to say.

Speaker 1 (34:01):
That's my fault.

Speaker 7 (34:02):
That was on me, fall in his hands down three,
chance to win the game, interception throwing to Mike Williams.
Then a postgame press conference where he all but diagrams
the all twenty two explaining how not my fault at all.

Speaker 1 (34:14):
You're not gonna win that way. Yeah, I do think
DeVante makes them better, but it's awful. Loss feels a
bit like a hail Mary. He's expensive, joining a losing
culture helping to create potentially a winning one. That's not
what Buffalo's doing. And speaking of Aaron, we've said this.

(34:35):
We played the blind resume game in the football season
fairly regularly, and you know, one of the things I've
gone back to is people are just because he's such
a beautiful, esthetic thrower of the football. Marina was like this.
Marino at the end of his career had really bad
knees and couldn't move. He was sometimes a little bit
of a lame duck in the pocket, but he was
so beautiful. Dan couldn't see it. Dan wanted another contract

(34:58):
and just he wasn't that guy anymore. And Aaron's got
a feel to it. So we'll do blind resume. It
is kind of interesting if you count this season, the
one game last season few snaps, and the last Green
Bay season. So if you go since twenty twenty two
blind resume, what is aerin So Aaron's winning percentage under
five hundred sixty four percent completion percentage in a passer

(35:19):
rating of eighty nine. The player on the right is
noticeably better Gino Smith in every category. I'm just throwing
it out there, folks. Blind resume number two Aaron again.
This quarterback throws for more game, higher passer rating, more accurate,

(35:43):
slightly better winning percentage since twenty twenty two than Aaron Rodgers.
Derek Carr, who, by the way, unstable raiders over to
the Saints with a bad coach, but Aaron's gott no, no,
no solo. It was better than Dennis Allen. This goes

(36:05):
back to Aaron's time with Green Bay. Matt Lafleur was
part of his life. I'm sorry if this makes you
uncomfortable in New York. Let's do the blind resume again.
You can make all the excuses you want. This has
been my argument since twenty twenty two. This quarterback, I
mean across the board is virtually the identical quarterback in completion, percentage, passing, yards, tedied,

(36:26):
interception ratio, passerating virtually the exact same quarterback Russell Wilson.
None of you like Russell Wilson, even Jmax getting uncomfortable
with this segment. Jamack is literally has to go to
the bathroom. He's uncomfortable with this segment. I'm not saying

(36:47):
Russell and Aaron are the same guy. Here's another one.
Since twenty twenty two, this quarterback is better at winning,
throwing for more yards significantly, a game passer rating slightly
lower since twenty twenty two. Who is this Joe Flacco? Folks,

(37:08):
go to your Reddit boards and argue amongst yourself. This
is what I've been on. Look at the numbers. Aaron
didn't win enough, but every other game is a clunker.
Denver clunker, Minnesota clunker, San Francisco clunker. Wasn't very good
against Tennessee. He was great against New England, and I
thought he was pretty good against Buffalo. I kind of
liked him. We got one more here's one more, all right,

(37:32):
passing yards. Aaron and this quarterback identical since twenty twenty two.
Aaron's got slightly four more passing touchdowns and three more
big play So Aaron's the better quarterback by about an
inch than this guy since twenty twenty two. Jared Goff
in the second half, meaning Jared Goff. You get half

(37:57):
of Jared Goff, half of him, just his second halfs
are equal to Aaron Rodgers' entire game since twenty twenty two,
and you all bang on Jared Goff constantly. He's just
he's a pretty thrower. It's like people who keep embracing Westbrook. Yes,

(38:18):
Russell's athletic. I'm not denying Russell's athletic. He's fun to watch,
can't shoot bad handles, doesn't play defense. At some point,
you gotta give me steak, not just the sizzle. You
gotta give me something to wrap my arm. Jared Goff
is all steak, no sizzle. So I'd like a little sizzle.
I like my quarterback to move a little, But Jared

(38:40):
Goff steak sandwich. You don't even get bread, you get
no carbs. He is all steak J Mack. Would you
like to a comment on that segment.

Speaker 3 (38:52):
You know that the blind resume stuff just irks me
to no end. Why my guy? So, I'm not gonna
go after you Bote.

Speaker 1 (38:59):
It hurks you.

Speaker 3 (39:00):
How many games?

Speaker 1 (39:02):
Just my favorite part. That's like saying, you know what
really bothers me? Accurate polling. I'm a politician. I do
not like accurate polling. No, I just these data. I
can't stand evidence. You said, that's what criminals say, these
cops and their evidence. This makes me so mad.

Speaker 8 (39:22):
Rogers Listen, there's no defending Rogers. He hasn't been great,
that's obvious. The Gino Smith one was kind of alarming.
I'm surprised he didn't see Zach Wilson's No. I kept thinking,
don't put Bryce Young up there.

Speaker 3 (39:34):
There's no way.

Speaker 1 (39:35):
I kept thinking, oh my gosh, No, But I mean
I think yesterday you said it, Derek Carr with the
pretty your ball. I'm the law enforcement of sports talk radio.
