Speaker 1 (01:01):
Oh yeah, they just tweeted out most.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
TVs passing under pressure since last season. You want to
guess who's first. Just take a gander.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
Let me let me guess.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
Andy Dalton Brock Party leads the NFL and TV's passing
under pressure since last season was sixteen.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
Here's in her question, who leads the NFL in the
last two years in hoisting Super Bowl trophies.
Speaker 4 (01:23):
I don't know. I'll have to check.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
I'll have to look at the congrats for your PFF grade.
I'll take the trophy. Never seen anybody, you know with
You're not gonna see anybody with Kevin Burkhard up there.
Look at my PFF trophy, the trophy the week wait grade.
It's amazing. Branchas up there putting his congratulations on that grade.
(01:47):
It's quite a day for all of us. It's not
the way it works. Okay. So Aaron Rodgers, yeah, I
tell you this before Aaron Rodgers goes dark very fast.
I like happy, Eric, Aaron, I like optimistic, Aaron. I
like flewis Aaron. I don't know what it means. He
used the word yesterday.
Speaker 5 (02:02):
I like that.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
So here is Aaron talking about adding to Vante Adams
to the New York Jets.
Speaker 5 (02:11):
Here it is.
Speaker 6 (02:12):
I knew that there was conversations, but I knew there
are other teams in both. So I literally found out it,
you know, close to one o'clock in the morning when
he said he's getting on a plane, and I was
just kind of my heart dropped and I was like,
to where, and he said New York.
Speaker 5 (02:28):
Really yeah, I.
Speaker 6 (02:30):
Knew there was interest, but I knew that there was
a lot of other things in play.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
So optimistic Aaron happy, Aeron is great at the podium. Now,
does this have a feeling like if we have another kid,
it'll fix our marriage. Then you get the immediate joy,
and about six months into it you're like, yeah, I
didn't solve our issues as a little bit like that.
The Jets are two and four, but I do think
they're the best two and four team in the NFL.
(02:58):
I think they're going to beat the Steelers. And I
will say this is that adding positivity around Aaron. When
Aaron's happy, Aaron tends to play better, and I think
that's a real thing. Happiness is also connected to expectations.
I think this is a nine or a ten win team.
I think they will battle to week seventeen eighteen with
Miami for a playoff. They may get in, they may not.
(03:19):
I predicted they won't, but if they do get in,
they'll be the best wildcard team in the AFC. The
top of the AFC, you're Baltimore's, Kansas City's, Buffalo's the
top teams in the AFC, that the division winners, Those
are really really good teams. The wild card you know
in Indianapolis, New York Jets, Chargers, who don't really have
(03:42):
a lot of weapons on the perimeter, those are beatable teams.
So just just lower expectations nine and eight, ten and seven.
You got to be happy with that. You gotta be happy.
This is not a thirteen win team. It's not a
twelve win team. And with that, Greg Cosel forty five
years NFL Films joins us. So let's start with the Jets.
(04:04):
I like demonte Adams. He's expensive. I don't think he's
quite in his prime, but he's really good. He's a
heck of an athlete, good route runner. So what does
he add to you? Because what I think is interesting
is Garrett Wilson is a really nice player, and he's young.
I don't think he wants to take a back seat
to anybody. He and Aeron are just forge this relationship.
But what does Devonte add Maybe the Jets don't have.
Speaker 5 (04:28):
Yeah, I'll answer it this way.
Speaker 7 (04:29):
And first I want to say that I thought Aaron
Rodgers threw the ball exceptionally well in that game against Buffalo,
he made some throws that were really high level throws,
which we know he can make. But I think when
you look at the combination of Wilson and Adams, what
Adams gives you is a true X receiver to the
boundary side of the formation, the short side of the field.
(04:50):
He can win one on one and of course he
did that when he was in Green Bay with Aaron
for eight years, and that's what he can do. Garrett
Wilson and I love Garret Wilson. I loved him coming
out of college. I love the way in which he plays.
I think he probably fits best Colin as more of
that movement Z receiver, the guy you line up on
the strong side of the formation, you use him in motion,
(05:12):
you get him free access into his rows.
Speaker 5 (05:14):
He's got great quickness.
Speaker 7 (05:15):
I think that this gives them that true boundary X,
which is what they thought they were getting with Mike Williams. Now,
Mike Williams is not that guy. He's late in his career,
he's been injured a lot. Obviously he's not the guy,
and that's why they made the trade for Devonte Adams.
Speaker 5 (05:30):
But now I think that's what.
Speaker 7 (05:31):
It gives them it gives them that true boundary X
that can win one on one. And one thing about
Rogers and the quarterbacks who play in this league for
a while, understand it is when it's one on one,
you've got to throw the ball. It's up to your
receivers to win. It's not up to you to win.
You throw the ball to the one on one matchups
and Adams can win those.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
Okay, Now, Amari Cooper, he's cheaper, he's also productive, may
not have the over the top athleticism of a Devonte Adams,
but I do like they have Dawson Knox, they have
Ken Kaid, they have James Cook, they have the slot receiver.
I think he fits nicely. I think, you know, they
look at that rookie receiver they have and they like him.
But that's a development, that's a process. What does a
(06:13):
Mark Cooper and the Bills, in your.
Speaker 7 (06:15):
Opinion, in some ways the same thing. They do not
have an outside receiver. And by the way, I really
like Khalil Shakir, but he's very much a slot movement
type receiver. They do not have an outside receiver at
this point because we don't know what Kean Coleman is yet.
They don't have an outside receiver that can win one
on one, and you really need that in this league.
(06:35):
It's very much a match up league at times, and
you need receivers that you feel confident as a quarterback
that can win one on one. We know that Josh
Allen is not shy about delivering the football, but when
you don't have receivers that can win, it makes it
very difficult to have a consistent passing game on a
week to week basis. And the hope for them is,
of course, that Amari Cooper can do that, that he
(06:57):
can win one on one and make Josh Allen feel
like he has a place to go with the ball
that's not based on scheme.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
Okay, so Baker may feel a lot of these guys
the Geno's, the Donold's, the rebirth of all of them.
Baker's playing as well as anybody. I said this last week,
it's almost like his arm's gotten stronger. He's I've always
thought if he plants and he has time to throw,
he's got a great arm. He really can rare back.
He really can. He's got a heater, so you know
he's not going to run around a ton, but he's
(07:25):
like like a bo Nicks. He can move. What do
you make a Baker? I mean Tampa Bay. I'd say
nobody's paying attention to him because of the Niners and
the Ravens and the Chiefs. I wouldn't want to I
wouldn't want to play Tampa Bay. I think they're an
interesting dog. What do you make of Baker this year?
Speaker 7 (07:41):
Well, I think so much has to do as well
with coaching when it comes to quarterbacks and Baker's talented.
You're one hundred percent right about the way he can
throw a football. You talk to quarterbacks in the league
and they'll say Baker is one of the better throwers
in the league.
Speaker 5 (07:53):
So he throws the ball really well.
Speaker 7 (07:55):
But now it's Liam Cohen who runs this offense, and
Liam Cohen has the RAMS background, so we're seeing a
lot of motion, a lot of condensed sets. The nature
of the pass game really helps to find things for
Baker so he can play the way Colin you just suggested,
where he can hit his back foot and for the
most part then deliver the football. So that's one reason
(08:16):
I think he's looked more comfortable this year. Now, I
will say last week and they put up almost six
hundred yards of offense against the Saints, he did not
have his best game, even though the numbers looked really,
really good. But for the most part this year, he's
been really decisive in the pocket. And when he's decisive
in the pocket, because the scheme allows him to be,
he can look really good.
Speaker 1 (08:36):
So this question is one I'm really interested in because
what I don't have is the access to the film
you have and the knowledge you have, your historical intellectual
knowledge of all the things you see. So a lot
of times if a quarterback struggles, you're watching film and
it's the interior O line is beat up. It's the
play call, right, you know the routes. I mean, Troy
Aikman this week is crushing Dallas and their receivers for
(08:58):
running bad routes. Philadelphia had their star receivers backed Cleveland's
a tire fire and they off a by their first
two series. Jalen'szero for five with two punts. I'm like,
that's not a stupp should do off a bye. If
someone mcvay's going to do off a bye, what is
wrong with his offense?
Speaker 7 (09:18):
Well, I think that Jalen Hurts is a certain kind
of quarterback, and he doesn't work real well in the
middle of the field. He's not at his core a
timing anticipation thrower, and most coaches believe you can't teach that.
You can dial guys back, but you can't get them
to make those kinds of throws between the numbers, between
the hashes, those tight window throws. And the reason that's important,
(09:39):
Colin is it does limit what you can do with
your game plan and your pass game. So Brown comes
back and they hit some fifty to fifty balls to
the outside. Brown may be the best in the league
on those kinds of plays with his body control, his strength,
his ability to shield defenders, but you can't live on.
Speaker 5 (09:56):
Fifty to fifty balls.
Speaker 7 (09:58):
So at some point you need a more multi dimensional
pass game. And my guess is Kellen Moore is trying
to figure that out now because Jalen Hurts is not
really the kind of quarterback that can make those throws
between the numbers. There's quarterbacks now, young quarterbacks, the CJ.
Strouds phenomenal making those timing anticipation throws that is very
(10:18):
much innate. Jalen Hurts is not that kind of thrower.
So there are limitations to what they can do with
their pass game.
Speaker 1 (10:25):
So Pittsburgh now appears to be pivoting to Russell Wilson
and Big Ben came out this week and said they're winning.
He's playing well enough. The numbers Jmax just offer this.
The numbers are pretty good with Justin Fields. I think
there's some limitations with him in the pocket, but I
like Arthur Smith. They're backstrets eight end. There's a lot
of elements here, so does Russell Wilson. I mean, you've
(10:48):
seen so much film. What's funny about this is when
I was in love with Russell Wilson, you pushed back
four years, and when I fell in love with Trevor Lawrence,
you'd say, Colin, you like it more than the film them.
So you're right on both of those. You're two and
on on me. Not You're a guy I'm not going
to play poker with. But does Russell? Does Russell give
them an element maybe that it elevates their offense.
Speaker 7 (11:13):
Well, it's always the eye in the sky, Colin. It's
you know, it's not my opinion, it's the eye in
this guy. I think they're making a bet here. They're
making a bet that if Russell Wilson is indeed the starter,
that he can give them more in the intermediate and
vertical pass game, that he's a play action quarterback, and
they do have a strong run game, or they have
a run game that's voluminous, they want to run the football,
(11:35):
so they can work off that and they can get
a player like George Pickens, who in terms of sheer
physical traits is probably a top five receiver in the league,
but is really kind of underutilized right now with Justin Field.
So they're making a bet that they'll get more out
of the passing game, may be less out of the
run game because Fields gives you that run game element
(11:56):
that Wilson does not. So I think that's the bet
they're making if they're going to turn to Wilson, that
you'll get more out of the pass game, and in
today's NFL that's more important than of voluminous run game.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
So I think this weekend we got CJ. Stroud and
Jordan Love, and I think Jordan Love is you know,
Green Bay does this well. They draft and you sit.
They always give you an offensive coach, They always give
you a stable offensive line, usually a decent running game,
not always but their elements right now are I mean
tight ends. They have three I like wide receivers. So
(12:29):
when you look at Jordan Love, I said this a
couple of weeks ago. He's trying to find his footing here.
He didn't have six great years back to back. He
has a ten game stretch, so then he gets banged up.
I look at this Green Bay offense and I'm like,
I know they're a super Bowl potential team. They're a
little younger than San Francisco, Kansas City, Baltimore maybe in
the teams. I like, but what do you see? What
(12:51):
does Matt Lafleur do with Jordan Love? What does he
pull out of him that we didn't see his first
five games last year and now we're seeing again. Is
it the magical Lafleur? Because it does appear Greg that
he does let him make mistakes, he does let him
improvise sometimes.
Speaker 5 (13:11):
Well he's that kind of quarterback.
Speaker 7 (13:13):
But I think watching their offense, I'm always impressed by
the passing game schematics.
Speaker 5 (13:19):
It is such a perfect mix of schematics.
Speaker 7 (13:22):
Creating throws for Love, who is maybe top three or
four in terms of overall physical traits as a quarterback.
Speaker 5 (13:30):
In this league, and he is willing to be aggressive.
Speaker 7 (13:33):
So you're right, Colin, there are times he's a little reckless,
a little undisciplined. You hope that that just changes with experience,
that he recognizes that, hey, there are certain things I
can do, certain things I can't do. He also does
have a tendency to throw too many balls falling away
and that.
Speaker 5 (13:49):
Has to change.
Speaker 7 (13:50):
But you are dealing with a really high level talent
and just the schematics. He threw a touchdown to read
maybe a four or five yard touchdown last week, and
obviously in the red zone that was just so beautifully schemed.
It turned out to be a great throw as well.
But how they got to it and how they defeated
a coverage that they anticipated was absolutely beautiful. So I
(14:10):
just think that marriage is really really good and I
would expect love to continue to improve.
Speaker 1 (14:15):
So San Francisco is hosting Kansas City. So the elements
the last couple of years that Mahomes has to throw with,
I mean, it's a grab bag. They bring Juju Smith
Schuster back, they get Xavier Worthy, who's more gadget than
volume guy. Rashie Rice is a one now he's hurt.
Mahomes has thrown some really ugly picks. And my take
(14:38):
is every week we're asking him to figure out another
part of the jigsaw puzzle. I mean, just when Rashi
Rice was a one, he gets hurt. Is that creating
on film? Is it the indecisiveness, new receivers, different routes,
what's creating sort of his men play?
Speaker 2 (14:58):
Well?
Speaker 7 (14:59):
I certainly can tell you waits in his head, but
I can tell you that the film shows that there's
too many times where he is too quick to move. Now,
is it possible that that's the case, is because he's
uncomfortable with his receivers and doesn't feel confident in waiting
and delivering the ball.
Speaker 5 (15:15):
I don't know the answer to that.
Speaker 7 (15:16):
But there was a play last week where he clearly
moved too soon and he had Worthy wide open on
a deep over route that probably would have been a touchdown.
So he's ten. You know, every year is a different year.
This is not a debate as to whether Mahomes is
a great quarterback. We know Mahomes is a great quarterback.
You know, as you said before I came on. You
know he's got a few Super Bowls that prove it.
(15:37):
So we're not debating whether he's a great quarterback. But
this is a different year with a different group of receivers,
and he's playing as if he just does not feel
comfortable staying in the pocket and letting the offense work. Now,
maybe they'll get to that point, but we also know
that there may be nobody better in the game and
making plays on the move. He's so comfortable on the
(15:58):
move with unbelieva vision.
Speaker 1 (16:01):
Okay, before we get to Caleb Williams stuff. To close
it out, I want to talk Jayden Daniels. I said
this week I can see six games. After six games
as an NFL quarterback, two things I'll see a red
flag or excellent traits. Jaden Daniels works for me. I
wish he was fifteen pounds heavier. I wish he was
a little sturdier. But what did you see in a
(16:23):
loss to Baltimore from Jaden Daniels.
Speaker 5 (16:26):
Well, he played very well. And the thing is is
he's really a pocket player at his core.
Speaker 7 (16:32):
He leaves as a parachute. That's not the first thing
he does, it's the last thing he does. And this
touchdown we're looking at right now, by the way, was
high level quarterbacking for a rookie, the ability to work
through that progression and understand where to go with the football.
But he is a pocket player at his core. He's
very comfortable in the pocket. He sees it well, and
he's precisely accurate with.
Speaker 5 (16:53):
His ball location.
Speaker 7 (16:54):
And again, ball location is the term I like to
use as opposed to accuracy because you have to place
the ball in specific spots in the NFL.
Speaker 5 (17:02):
It's not just throwing to a player.
Speaker 7 (17:04):
And he's shown through six games and you saw it
in college as well, Colin, that he really is so
precisely accurate with his ball location.
Speaker 5 (17:13):
So he's played extremely well.
Speaker 7 (17:15):
And yes, he also does have that ability at times
to make plays with his legs and break down the defense,
and Kingsbury's doing a great job with him. That's a
perfect example of helping a quarterback, not protecting him, helping
a quarterback with what you're asking him to do, being
very specific in the reads and the designs of your
offense so that he does not get stuck in the pocket.
Speaker 1 (17:38):
So we've seen Caleb Williams get better every week and
media reports Guys like me are out here saying, hey,
you had a big meeting with the coaches, come to
Jesus meeting. But you look at film, slow steady growth,
where's it coming from?
Speaker 5 (17:56):
The film tells you.
Speaker 7 (17:57):
I don't want to use the word simplify because that
has a connotation. But again, I just talked about helping
Jayden Daniels. They're doing a great job of helping Caleb
Williams of really defining the route concepts, so it defines
the reads, it keeps them relatively basic, which, by the way,
is the job of the coordinator. You should be doing
(18:18):
that with every quarterback so that he knows exactly who
to look at, where to.
Speaker 5 (18:22):
Go with the ball.
Speaker 7 (18:23):
And they also give him some plays that are basically
no Reed plays. You know, he's throwing the most screen
passes of any quarterback in the league through six games.
Those are plays obviously, that are no Reed plays. The
touchdown he threw to Cole Kmet last week, the first one,
which we're going to show in a moment here, that's
basically a no Reed play that becomes a thirty one
(18:43):
yard touchdown. So they're doing an outstanding job with him,
And make no mistake, this kid can throw the ball
exceptionally well. He controls it beautifully. I mean, you know
you saw him for those two years at USC. It
comes out of his hands so so beautifully.
Speaker 5 (18:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (18:59):
So let's go to the play of the week, which
includes Caleb Williams and the improving Bears offense.
Speaker 5 (19:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (19:05):
This was the first touchdown in the game last week
in London where he hit Cole Comet on the middle screen,
a play I've seen numerous times.
Speaker 5 (19:14):
In the league. You've probably seen it as well. It's beautiful.
Speaker 7 (19:17):
You fake the swing one way, you fake the screen
the other way, and then you throw the middle screen.
Speaker 5 (19:22):
It's so beautifully designed.
Speaker 7 (19:24):
A perfect example of what we're speaking about with kind
of a no read play. So what you're going to
see here is you're going to see that Williams is
in the gun. It's going to be a two by
two set. Now we want to focus on Comet just
so people know where he is because he catches the touchdown.
Speaker 5 (19:40):
But there's a lot that goes on before we get
to that.
Speaker 7 (19:43):
So what you're going to see here and there's Comet,
he's attached to the wide side of the field. Now
you're going to see Keenan Allen is going to go
into jet motion and then orbit motion. This has become
a staple motion concept in the NFL. You see everybody
do it. Okay, So he's going to go into this
motion because he's the first part of this play, and
(20:06):
the corner tracks him. Now that's a pretty good indicator
that you're going to get some man coverage. So he
tracks them, and as I said, now it looks like
it's going to be a swing to Alan because you
can see Caleb Williams immediately look out that way, and
that's a critical piece of the play. He has to
turn his head and his eyes to Keenan Allen. That's
(20:26):
the first part of the play. So now there's two
stacked linebackers here. They're really the targets on this play. Now,
the next thing we want to see is the right
guard is pulling the other way away from.
Speaker 5 (20:39):
Allan to the opposite side of the field.
Speaker 7 (20:42):
And again we talked about those linebackers being the critical
piece here.
Speaker 5 (20:46):
So what you want to see here is you're going
to see Williams. Now he's going to.
Speaker 7 (20:50):
Look to Swift as if there's going to be a
screen to the other side of the field. And it's
neither one of these plays. But look what happens with
the linebackers. They the eye discipline, They don't know where
to look. You're targeting them. So what do you get
commit wide open in the middle of the field. And
now this becomes as I said, it's a no rethrow.
Speaker 5 (21:10):
This is the play.
Speaker 7 (21:11):
This is where he's throwing the ball based on the
design of the play. So these are the kinds of
things you do to help young quarterbacks. Because now this
is easy by NFL standards, Colin, it's.
Speaker 5 (21:23):
Relatively a simple play.
Speaker 7 (21:25):
So now Comet obviously does a great job to score
the touchdown. But this is how you help young quarterbacks.
You get them comfortable. You don't ask them to do
more than they can do early in their careers, because
the NFL is a different game than college football.
Speaker 1 (21:38):
Greg Cosel forty five years NFL films, it's always Greg,
appreciate it.
Speaker 5 (21:44):
Thanks, Colin, appreciate it. Yep.
Speaker 1 (21:46):
So here you have two defensive coaches Chicago Washington, but
they've got the right offensive coordinators in both instances helping
the young quarterback. And Jmax over here smirking because he's like,
I hear that about Homes. Mahomes is struggling. This is
when Greg's reready good at this. Greg's telling you Mahomes
(22:07):
doesn't trust his protection in the pocket, and so he's
letting the ball go early, sometimes pick, sometimes in completion.
But there has been more ugly moments whereas brought purty
even without Christian McCaffrey. Trust Shanahan trusts his run game,
trust his protection. Remember, Mahomes is not only miss has
kind of average tackles. You talked about that before the year.
(22:28):
They don't have the checkout. Yeah, so he didn't have
his starback seventh round or not. He doesn't love his tackles,
and so what you're doing, you're speeding the game up
for Mahomes. He's good enough to win, but it gives
you ugly moments with.
Speaker 4 (22:40):
Mahomes, which Turnstile on the left side gets.
Speaker 3 (22:42):
To face Bosa this week, Huh is Andy Reid just
gonna flip a coin.
Speaker 4 (22:45):
I mean, both of them struggle badly.
Speaker 3 (22:47):
But uh, let's see Moosa maybe wreck wreck the game
for San Francisco.
Speaker 4 (22:51):
I don't want to give away my pick too early.
Speaker 1 (22:55):
Here's a knock s. I'm excited, that's a better word
for it. Yeah, I'm excited too. I'm sure it's on Fox.
We only do good games here. Yeah, we had to
call the Dodgers. Quit shutting people out. We want more
competitive games.

All right, Let's start with the big name wide receivers
getting traded this week. DeVante Adams of the Jets, Amari
Cooper the.
Speaker 4 (23:46):
Bills, Well, the Chiefs who we've talked about.
Speaker 3 (23:49):
They kind of have a needed receiver with Rashid Rice
down and likely done for the season. Patrick Mahomes, he
says he's not worried. He believes Casey has enough talent
to chase the three pet I.
Speaker 8 (23:59):
Have a string confidence on that football field. I mean
they've won games, they've they've won super Bowls, They've made
plays in big moments and Brett Veach does a great
job of bringing players in that can step up whenever
their numbers called.
Speaker 2 (24:09):
Every time I.
Speaker 8 (24:10):
Step in that football fold, I feel like we have
the best ability to win. And I think that that's
the credit to Brett Beach and Coachrie bringing guys that
really get after it and put in the work to
be great every single day.
Speaker 1 (24:20):
Yeah, they trust their guys. They don't need to be desperate.
When you got the best quarterback in the.
Speaker 3 (24:24):
World, say you're worthy, I'm looking at the depth chart.
It's terrifying ya. If you're worthy the rookie who can
basically do one thing, jujus to the shooster Justin Watson Skymore.
Mikole Hardman, all Right, you know what I see, dependable receivers.
Speaker 1 (24:44):
Maybe not flashy that your liking.
Speaker 3 (24:47):
I'm not a flashy guy. I'm like, can you catch
and run? And does your quarterback trust you? Gret Coseel
saying the opposite what Patrick Mahomes is Saying's saying Mahomes
doesn't trust his guys.
Speaker 4 (24:56):
But it's like, I have total FAIV.
Speaker 1 (24:57):
He doesn't trust his protection, trusts his guys. He just
doesn't trust his protection. That's when quarterbacks are letting it
rip early, and Mahomes has a good sense of the pocket.
He doesn't trust his own line.
Speaker 4 (25:10):
Okay, I guess it's no big deal. They're fine, Casey,
Everything's good.
Speaker 1 (25:14):
I'm going to be texting you the entire day. I'm
not rooting. I love San Francisco, I love watching them play.
Speaker 3 (25:22):
But I.
Speaker 4 (25:24):
Love Rockberdy and then you just like, you know, take shots.
Speaker 1 (25:27):
I'm just saying, I'm not betting against Reid and Mahomes
off a bye, I've done that before.
Speaker 3 (25:32):
And they have to work on the staff to get
me a Niners T shirt for Monday, just in case
they pull the upset as a favorite.
Speaker 1 (25:38):
It'd be good for our show, you know what I mean,
the dynasty. They're going to win. That one's already.
Speaker 4 (25:46):
You feel good about that.
Speaker 1 (25:47):
I love the Jets this weekend, there's three. I actually
loved three games this weekend. I loved one last week,
Packers over Arizona. Arizona off that big one over the Niners.
You knew they'd be flat.
Speaker 4 (25:58):
Next story doing here we are going to Oh yeah.
Speaker 3 (26:02):
Aaron Rodgers made headlines for blasting his wide receiver Mike
Williams kind of blamed him for the interception at the end,
it just felt like it was unnecessary for Rogers to
go after Williams. Well, former Jet qb Ryan Fitzpatrick he
was not a fan of how Rogers handled things, saying
why can't he shoulder all the blame in the media
(26:23):
and then get behind closed doors with Mike Williams or
the whole offense or the whole team and say they're
not doing their job and tell them he needs more
out of them.
Speaker 4 (26:32):
He should, Fitzpatrick is saying he should.
Speaker 3 (26:34):
Take accountability to the media instead of throwing his guy
under the bus. Now, that is very interesting, Colin, that
a quarterback would go after Rogers. We don't hear a
lot of people go after him, people in the media,
but not former quarterbacks.
Speaker 5 (26:46):
Well, he's right.
Speaker 1 (26:47):
I mean the old rule is management can scold in person,
but not publicly. You do it privately. So Aaron's got
a certain gravitas about him. There's no reason to throw
a guy under the bus. I mean, I'm not a
big Mike Williams. I asked somebody in the league today
and they're like, yeah, nice guy, good red zone target.
They thought the Chargers would go back and look at him,
(27:07):
just just give you. You know, Mike Williams kind of a
tough matchup for a corner in the red zone. He's
a go route guy. But yeah, that's this is the
thing that we've said. I by the way, you and
I have been consistent on this. I've been I've been
on this for six years. Aaron goes dark very quickly.
He gets very sullen. He starts pointing fingers. He is
a he's a bailer, not a baller. He's not a
fox hole guy. When the going's good, he's great, but
(27:28):
he will bail on you in one second. And you
know it's there's a lot of athletes, Uh, you don't
see a lot of quarterbacks that have that. A lot
of quarterbacks are well liked. I mean, Darnold is well
liked on every team he's he's been, whether he's good
or not, he's been liked. And Jared Goff is not
a finger pointer, and and Maholmes is not a finger point.
Speaker 3 (27:47):
The Superstars aren't well liked because they drive him hard.
Michael Jordan was really tough on his teammates. Peyton Manning
would criticize publicly on the sidelines.
Speaker 4 (27:56):
You know, Tom Brady can be that.
Speaker 1 (27:59):
I don't have a problem on the sidelines barking, I
have a problem after a loss. Eli Manning understood New York.
He didn't make himself available after wins. He was always
available to the press after losses. Aaron's the opposite. When
he's winning, he's smiling and charismatic, and when he's losing,
he's passive, aggressive and fingerpointing. It's just not a good
(28:20):
quality for forget quarterback, it's just not a good quality.
Speaker 3 (28:24):
I think the phrase I heard was praise publicly, criticized privately. Yes,
words to live by, you know. And Aaron Rodgers this
is this is what he does. This is what the
Jets wanted. They got in bed with this guy, and
now they've got to deal with it. Final story, Colin,
is Tampa Bay coming off that blowout win of the Saints,
Your guy Baker Mayfield on fire fucks four and two,
tied with the Falcons atop the suddenly decent NFC South.
(28:47):
I guess Baker enters Week seven leading the NFL with
fifteen passing touchdowns. And Rob Gronkowski was singing his praises
on the debut episode of the Dudes on Dudes podcast
with co host Julian Edelman.
Speaker 9 (29:03):
He's a dude, man, He's a dog. He wants to
get dirty, he wants to just have a good time.
He wants to laugh. He's like a he's an ultimate
like teammate. He's like an ultimate locker room guy. It's
like a guy that you know, quarterbacks aren't really like this.
He's a guy that will come over and chop it
up while watching the game whatever it is, you know,
the w n B A or if it's soccer, you know,
(29:26):
whatever it is, you know, he'll have his opinion.
Speaker 5 (29:28):
He'll make you laugh.
Speaker 1 (29:30):
Yeah, is that a new podcast.
Speaker 4 (29:32):
I haven't got the invite yet, but I think I
would fit in there. I see, you know.
Speaker 1 (29:35):
Edmond Rocket had a car. They had a cardboard cutout. Dude.
I don't think the budget has been finalized for that network.
Speaker 4 (29:42):
But that's that's the new look.
Speaker 3 (29:44):
No frills were you know, there's like basic stuff, but
it's cool. You know, you like to go to those restaurants,
no frills, Like, dude, you.
Speaker 1 (29:52):
Know where I live, Uber Eats, I use that, That's
what I use. That's where the food's at. I shat October.
I don't leave the house much.
Speaker 3 (30:01):
What if they come to your door in the and
the bag isn't stapled shut, do you send it.
Speaker 4 (30:06):
Back or what are we doing?
Speaker 8 (30:07):
No?
Speaker 1 (30:08):
I mean if I go and buy a diet coke
and the cans open, I'll pass. I'll talk about Uber Eats.
They're bringing the food to you. If the door, if
the bag's not stapled shut.
Speaker 4 (30:16):
Yeah, I got that once.
Speaker 1 (30:18):
I was like, no, thanks, I go, I gotta stable
at break somebody.
Speaker 4 (30:23):
My curious staple er is just be picking out your
fries and stuff. You're a French five guy.
Speaker 1 (30:27):
Right, Well, I don't. I've never even considered that to
be concerning if the if the bag's not stapled shut.
Speaker 4 (30:34):
Well, you trust people, what's good?
Speaker 1 (30:36):
I don't.
Speaker 5 (30:36):
It's a happier life.
Speaker 1 (30:39):
I trust election results and polling, and it's a happier
life than being cynical about everything.
Speaker 8 (30:47):
H J.
Speaker 5 (30:47):
Mack with the news.
Speaker 2 (30:49):
Well that's the news, and thanks for stopping by the
Herd line.
Speaker 1 (30:53):
I don't want to live like the other way.
Speaker 2 (30:55):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and noon Easter nin a Empacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 3 (31:04):
It's a primetime showdown on Fox College Football Friday as
iceman contender Dylan Gabriel lead second ranked Oregon against Perdue.
Speaker 4 (31:13):
It all kicks off tomorrow night at eight eastern on.
Speaker 1 (31:17):
All Right, Jay Mack. We both came off a winning
week last week, and uh, I gotta be honest, I
picked the Ducks over Ohio State being in Get about that.
Here we go our big ten bets.
Speaker 2 (31:33):
It's time for big bets. Colin and j Mac make
their favorite big ten bets of the week.
Speaker 1 (31:41):
Okay, I'm gonna take the under on Oregon Perdue. So
Oregon's defense Purdue is not a good football team. Oregon's
defense will keep Perdue, which has been held under ten
points in two of their last three games, down. But
I think Oregon comes out offensively a tad flat. It
kind of feels forty to ten, thirty to thirteen. Oregon
(32:02):
wins clearly the better team, but it's very hard to
ask your team to play the game their best game
in two years and to equal it. I think Oregon
will be a little off its game. Purdue will hang
around for a while. I want the under sixty one
and a half total points.
Speaker 4 (32:17):
I like that. That's a good read.
Speaker 3 (32:18):
I will go with Nebraska getting six and a half
on the road at Indiana. Undefeated Indiana fu stat from
Fox Indiana has not trailed for a second this season.
They're a great story. They got Jmu's coach, they got
a million guys from the transfer portal. However, they haven't
played anybody.
Speaker 9 (32:34):
Now.
Speaker 3 (32:34):
It's going to be a scene there this weekend. A
lot of partying in Indiana. You mentioned Bloomington. This was seven.
The sharp guys took the seven on Monday, and now
at six and a half, I'll take the six and
a half. Give me the Cornhuskers and Dylan Reyola going
on the road for a nice cover.
Speaker 1 (32:48):
All right, I'm gonna do an upset. I'm going to
take Illini three and a half at home. So Michigan's
now in their third quarterback. They're the worst offense of
the top twenty five teams. They're averaging twenty three a game,
can get physical. Illinois has won two of the three
games against ranked opponents. It's their game of the year.
This is a major, major game for Illinois. They had
(33:09):
fifty points last week. Brett Beilahima has been in his
career pretty good in big games at Michigan's offense. They
can't throw the ball. It'll be in the trenches. Could
be low scoring and then a low scoring game. I'll
take the hook Illinois plus three and a half.
Speaker 4 (33:21):
Yeah, I'm with you on this. I love this play.
Speaker 3 (33:23):
By the way, Michigan has sparting next week. That's kind
of a big game.
Speaker 4 (33:25):
They hate each other.
Speaker 2 (33:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (33:27):
The other thing you mentioned, they're on their third quarterback.
Speaker 3 (33:28):
I just looked this guy up. He's a seventh year quarterback.
He's twenty five years old. This is his third college colin.
It's going to be a seventh start. What Michigan is desperate.
Speaker 4 (33:39):
For offense, I'm with you. I like Illinois.
Speaker 1 (33:41):
Okay, I'm gonna take USC minus seven and a half. Listen,
USC with Lincoln Riley is eighteen and two against unranked teams.
They win these games. Maryland just got blown out by Northwestern.
Their defense is awful. So listen. USC scored on la US,
he scored on Wisconsin US, he scored on Penn State.
(34:03):
USC's gonna score points here. This is a team that's
like two tackles and a bad coverage from being like
five and one. This is not a terrible USC team.
They're young. Maryland's zero to three in conference. Again, all
three losses for USC have come in the other team's
final possession. This is a team that did beat LSU
(34:24):
and was ahead and leading Penn State late. I'm gonna
swallow the seven and a half here.
Speaker 3 (34:29):
Okay, good luck with that cross country trip. Finally, I
will go Michigan State. Give me Sparty plus five? Yeah,
at home against Iowa. This is simply a public versus
the smart guy's play. So everybody saw Iowa smash Washington.
They just saw the score. They didn't see that Washington
outgained Iowa. They just kept with the self inflicted wounds.
Now Iowa has to go to Michigan State, which is
(34:50):
lost three in a row, but they're off of by Colin.
Speaker 4 (34:52):
I think that bye is big. Give me Sparty. I
would not be surprised if they won this outright.
Speaker 1 (34:57):
Plus five Michigan, Yeah, that was my game thought. I
think it's gonna be low scoring, tough, physical, take the points.
So you and I agree.
Speaker 3 (35:07):
I'm not, you know, gassing us up for the audience.
But we have been hot these last five weeks. The
first two weeks I was offered, but we've been kind
of cooking here on the Big Ten.
Speaker 4 (35:15):
Listen, you start watching the games, you get a feel
for the teams. It's been a great year in the
Big Ten.
Speaker 1 (35:21):
Those look like two guys you'd want to hang out with.
Go some chicken and wings. Watch the Dodgers beat up
on the mess So I tell you this, when Aaron
Rodgers is happy, I like Aaron Rodgers, and when he
starts using big words, he's happy. And he was talking
about more on getting DeVante Adams as a New York
(35:44):
Jet teammate.
Speaker 6 (35:46):
He was frustrating Monday night. But really my left flew
us moment call to hear his voice Monday night. Well,
I was just see Tuesday morning because it was almost
one o'clock.
Speaker 5 (36:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (36:00):
The first thing I thought of it was melifluous too.
So we agree on that. Here is Greg co Sell
earlier this hour on what DeVante brings to the Jets.
Speaker 10 (36:11):
What Adams gives you is a true X receiver to
the boundary side of the formation, the short side of
the field. He can win one on one and of
course he did that when he was in Green Bay
with Aaron for eight years, and that's what he can do.
Garrett Wilson, and I love Garret Wilson. I loved him
coming out of college. I loved the way in which
he plays. I think he probably fits best Colin as
(36:32):
more of that movement Z receiver, the guy you line
up on the strong side of the formation, you use
him in motion, you get him free access into his routes.
Speaker 1 (36:42):
Yeah, so I think it's a play all the way around.
I'm excited for it. The other thing about the whole
Aaron Rodgers situation is, you know, as I go into
a weekend, we have the NFL games this weekend starting tonight.
I do like Denver and Sean Payton over Spencer Rattler.
Spencer there is a talented kid. He's got a big army,
can move around. I think it's a go either way game.
(37:04):
But I think Sean Payton coming home. Bo Nix has
cut down on any turnovers. We don't know a lot
about Spencer Ratler doesn't have Crystal Lava. So the New
Orleans is kind of beat up. But standalone games, they're very,
very good. But if you start looking at the schedule,
we'll put it up here, is that there's always an
upset every weekend. Last week was rare where the best
quarterback went fourteen and oh last week. So I always
(37:26):
asked j Mack, I do this on Thursday and Friday.
Pick the upset on the schedule this week. I also
like Jacksonville. That's one of my stronger plays this week
in London because they're there all the time. I think,
find the upset on this board that you like. You
talked about Seattle Atlanta.
Speaker 5 (37:45):
Is that an upset?
Speaker 1 (37:46):
Yeah, it would be Atlanta's Facetattle three.
Speaker 3 (37:48):
You're starting to see those gobbled up. Is that Seattle
Seahawks get healthy. I definitely like them in that one.
They will be in headlines. I can't make a case
for the Raiders against your Rams. I mean at that numbers,
Big Colin, Yeah, if Cup doesn't play, how would the
Rams favored by seven over anyone?
Speaker 1 (38:04):
I am I'm not. Let me throw this out to you.
Baker Mayfield at home against the Raveles like it.
Speaker 3 (38:11):
This was four and a half, I believe last week
on the look ahead, and now it's down to like
three to three and a half.
Speaker 4 (38:15):
Tampa Bay is good. The offensively they're good.
Speaker 3 (38:18):
We'll see defensively they're getting healthy and outdoors maybe slow
down Lamar and Derek Henry just a tad well.
Speaker 1 (38:25):
They have drafted well. Jason light was a scout for
years and he was considered one of the league's best scouts.
He was a great scout and then he became the GM.
Tampa doesn't have bad drafts with him and the back.
Speaker 5 (38:39):
End of that.
Speaker 4 (38:39):
Baltimore, the secondary is not great.
Speaker 1 (38:42):
No, I mean, the reason the Baker Mayfield game is
interesting this weekend. Even if Baltimore wins and Baltimore' played
a series of very emotional games. Even if they win,
Baker's gonna. I mean, he and Chris Godwin this year
and they're running game. The way to beat Lamar is
to get him uneven, get him off the field with
the run games. So if Tampa can run and keep
Lamar on the bench watching kind of get him out
(39:04):
of his flow, that's the way to beat Balton.
Speaker 3 (39:07):
So remember when they had Rashad White, and then they Bucky.
Speaker 4 (39:10):
Irving and now Tucker. They got three deepit running back.
It's like there's a world here. I'm looking at the schedule.
Speaker 3 (39:16):
It looks like the Ravens have a big divisional matchup
next week against the hated Browns. I wonder if they're
thinking about that as opposed to Tampa Bay non conference.
Speaker 1 (39:25):
Tampa's a real team, But there is the Lamar.
Speaker 4 (39:27):
What is he? Twenty two and one now against the NFF.
There's that concent.
Speaker 1 (39:30):
That's why I never bet against Lamar against the NFC.
Speaker 5 (39:33):
I just don't.
Speaker 1 (39:34):
It's like, don't bet against Andy Reid and bye, do
not do that, and do not bet against Lamar Jackson
against the NFC. I like Tampa the number, but there's
a reason it started where it started, which was closer
to five five and a half.
Speaker 4 (39:47):
I may be going against both those trends. Well, we're
not trend betters, but we were aware of.
Speaker 1 (39:51):
Some of the bigger I am a trend better. I
like all the new trends. Sometime, you know, if bell
bottom jeans are in, brother, I'm going to.
Speaker 4 (40:00):
What about Apple bottom jeans.
Speaker 1 (40:01):
I don't even know what they are, but I like those.
I like the sound of those. I like apples.
Speaker 4 (40:05):
Trying to get in some rap lyrics.
Speaker 1 (40:06):
All right, all right, okay, Jordan Schultz will stop by
in studio. We got we got all sorts of stuff.
We got wide receivers on the market,
