You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
Here we go on eight Tuesday, live in Los Angeles.
It is The Herd wherever you may be, however you
may be listening. Thanks for making us part of your day.
Herd Hierarchy. Top ten teams in the NFL. Yeah, the
Steelers will be in there again. Pittsburgh with another kind
of nonchalant, boring Win who cares right they do. And

(00:46):
the Dodgers. I'll tell you what we're having. In the
history of LA sports, there have been been very few
weeks like the one we had in Los Angeles last
week between the Chargers and the Rams, and the Leers
in USC and the Dodgers. It felt like last night.
On several occasions, they sort of separated from baseball. I

(01:07):
was talking to a friend who's big baseball Patty. He said,
if you look at the Yankees lineup against everybody else
that's great against the Dodgers that look small. And let's
start with that. There were several moments last night, three
in particular to me, that felt like the World Series
was over before it was over. And the first was
delivered by red hot Freddy Freeman.

Speaker 3 (01:30):
It is a fastball, it's ripped down the line.

Speaker 4 (01:33):
It is gone.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
A fifth consecutive World Series game with a Freddy Freeman
homer run, and the Dodgers are on the board first
in Game three.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
Freeman, in twelve at bats, has as many home runs
and RBI as the Yankees do in one hundred and
two at bats. The Yankees also have thirty one strikeouts.
Freddie Freeman none. He is alone, alone bearing the Yankees.
So a couple of batters in it's two nothing Dodgers

(02:06):
and a good Yankee starter can't get through the opening
inning unscathed. Here was the second moment, fourth inning. It's
three nothing Dodgers. John Carlos Stanton had doubled. There's a
couple of outs. Next batter up, Volpe singles to left
and Taoscar Hernandez with the with the U and so
you get the single there right, all right, there's this

(02:29):
John Carlos stan and here we go the play of
Taskar Hernandez career, literally a perfect throw to the plate
and you could feel, literally feel the energy leave Yankee
Stadium on that play. That is all time World Series stuff,

(02:49):
energy gone from the stadium. Then in the sixth inning,
brush Star Graderol a guy that throws ninety eight to
one hundred miles an hour consistently, comes in and fastball
you're not quite working perfectly, walk Soto, Stanton singles too,
and here comes Alex Vesia right he closed out Game two,

(03:14):
gets Chaz Jisholm fielder's choice, and again the Dodgers escape.
So Freddie Freeman starts it. Tascar Hernandez in the fourth inning,
takes the energy out of Yankee Stadium. And then the
Yankees in the last four innings they had base runners
in all of them but could only get runs in
the ninth inning. So it's Freeman to start. He's been dominant.

(03:36):
Show hey, Otani's hurt. I mean, they literally have used
forty different pitchers. So you're getting opportunities to beat the Dodgers.
You're getting these opportunities. The Yankees are putting guys on base,
but the difference is you go from an arrand Judge
to a Stanton and then there's a drop off in
power to Jazz Chisholm. But with the Dodgers, it just

(03:58):
feels like Otani's hurts Freeman, Freeman's hitting, Betts, Betts month Sy.
I mean, when you got Tommy Edmond hitting at the
bottom of the order, who was the National League Championship
Series MVP, they just don't allow you any oxygen. The
Dodgers lineup is endless power, endless key hitters, clutch hitters,

(04:20):
all started by Freddie Freeman. Fifth straight World Series or
fifth straight postseason game delivering the long ball, and here's
Dave Roberts after.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
You're one of the few people on earth who know
what it's like to come back from a three to
zero deficit.

Speaker 5 (04:35):
Don't talk about that wrong guy, way too early. I
don't want to divulge any secrets. But from the other side,
I just think that we have got to stay focused,
stay urgent. I think offensively, to be quite honest, we
left a lot of runs out there tonight, still found

(04:57):
a way to win a ball game, and there's just
got to your urgency. I just don't want to let
these guys up for air.

Speaker 1 (05:03):
By the way, he was on the two thousand and
four Red Sox team that got down three out of
the Yankees came back to beat the Yankees in seven.
So he's been in this environment. He doesn't want anything
to do with it. But there were just several moments
last night, the Freddie Freeman homer, you can feel the
energy come out, Taskar Hernandez throw to the plate. And
then once again we thought coming into the series, the
Yankees had superior pitching, and I thought that was fair

(05:26):
and everybody who sits and watches all these regular season games,
that was the feeling, that was the sense. But it's
been the Dodgers pitchers, the starting pitching. I mean, how
about Walker Buehler last night, just wiggling himself out of jams,
getting some defense, getting timely, hitting the pitch with a lead.
It just feels like again the Yankees against everybody else.

(05:49):
The Guardians, other teams in the American League feel like
a superior team. Against the Dodgers, they feel kind of
small and very reliant on Aaron Judge, Soto and John
Carlos Stanton's power. And Aaron Judge right now is in
an all time slump. So when you take out Judge
and his power and they're very reliant on three guys,

(06:12):
it feels like to deliver it. The Dodgers aren't. I mean,
the Dodgers have how many players for the Dodgers have
multiple RBIs in the playoffs, multiple home runs in the playoff.
It's just a deeper roster. And the Dodgers pitchers are delivering,
and the Yankees pitchers, especially against Freddie Freeman, are not
all right. So here's the good news for the Steelers.

(06:35):
They found their quarterback. Now he may not be the
answer forever, but Russell Wilson is now to and on
a starter. I thought he was a little little more
polished version of game one. Remember last time we saw
him he struggled first half, good in the second against
the Jets. But what it really goes to show for
the six and two Steelers is competency and no mistakes
at quarterback wins a lot of games, especially with this defense,

(06:56):
which is a top three defense. Justin Fields had a
higher sea but a lower floor, And with this run
game and this defense, you just stay away from mistakes.
The Steelers defense in all six of their wins has
held people under twenty points. So I mean Pittsburgh has
a plan. You know what this is becoming when when

(07:17):
Russell Wilson went to Denver, he was the savior and
at thirty five years old, he and Sean Pate that
wasn't He wasn't a savior. He's not a savior. We're
finding Aaron Rodgers isn't a savior. And the truth is
their defense is good. The second half was so Pittsburgh Steelers.
It was defense, it was special teams, and you know,
you got to give Russell Wilson credit. He went to
Denver it was a bad fit. But in Pittsburgh it

(07:40):
looks a little bit like Seahawks. Light defensive coach, defensive culture,
couple of playmakers, strong run game, better than average special teams.
It is a sturdy ship that needs a sale, and
Russell Wilson has become their sale. Lower ceiling than justin Fields,

(08:03):
higher floor than justin fields. But that's what this team needs.
They don't need a savior. And I'll get into this later.
Saviors don't work at quarterback. We think they do. They
don't if a quarterback and maybe Patrick Mahomes, but Kansas
City didn't need saving. They need the playoffs the year
before with Alex Smith, but I mean this game, this

(08:24):
game felt like the kind of way Pittsburgh is wanted
to win since Big Ben has left, and they couldn't
find the answer to it. They tried Kenny Pickett, Mason,
Rudolph Justin Fields, and they finally got a competent veteran quarterback.
Basically executes the simple stuff two or three times a game.

(08:47):
He throws a nice fade or a nice deep ball.
That's all they ask. Defense, run game, no mistakes, execute
the layups. That's what Russell Wilson is doing. He is
now two and zero in this as a starter in Pittsburgh.
They're six and two. Is a team. Here's coach after.

Speaker 2 (09:05):
I just thought he you know, he didn't need to
warm up to it, you know, a little less rust
than the week before. But I'm not surprised by his capabilities.

Speaker 1 (09:14):
Third down, Steelers were almost fifty percent yards per play,
almost seven yards rushing, good penalties, very few time of possession.
Solid Again, Russell's not getting in the way Old Big Ben, Mason, Rudolph,
Kenny Pickett, Justin Fields had moments, but the floor much lower.

(09:37):
I said this last year if you go look at
Russell Wilson's Denver numbers last year. He and Sean Payton
didn't get along, but he wasn't terrible. His numbers were
better than what Aaron Rodgers now is delivering in New York.
But Aaron is viewed as the superior quarterback. Russell was
better in Denver than Aaron is with a Jets, and

(09:57):
that's not disputable. Russell was high nine passer rating right now.
Aaron in New York is like mid eighty passer rating.
So again, when you got the defense, when you got
the coach, when you have the culture in the strong
run game, competency and no big mistakes, wins a lot
of games. When Brian Dable a few years ago cut

(10:17):
back on Daniel Jones mistakes late in the season, they
made the playoffs. And this team's got better players than
that Giants team. All right, Jay MC, I think the
Dodgers have sealed it up. I do feel like the
Yankees will win one game in New York. But you
know they always say in baseball, momentum is the next
day's pitcher. But when Walker Bueller's that good, and you

(10:39):
know ya, Momoto's good and so it's I mean, I'm
watching Walker Buehler and you go into that game and
you're like, he doesn't throw as hard as he used to.
But I thought he wiggled out of a couple of jams.
Obviously got great help from you know, ta Oscar Hernandez
and leftfield obviously got huge help. But I mean, in
the end, the Dodgers postseason pitching has been a bit

(11:00):
of a revelation, and the Yankees was good until this series.
And it's also hard to play from behind at home
because the crowd, the energy, there's a good empty seats.

Speaker 4 (11:08):
I mean, you got a home run in the first
inning and it just took the energy out of the building.
It was pathetic. The congrats to the Dodgers, awesome win.
You've been banging on New York Sports a lot, Colin,
So the New York Giants looked awful last night. Defensively,
couldn't stop anybody Yankees. Thatts have gone silent. There's now
everybody's piggybacking our take about Aaron Rodgers should retire. Remember
I've been pushing that for a couple weeks. It's all

(11:30):
bleaked very quickly in New York. Although like a month ago,
things were looking positive and up.

Speaker 1 (11:35):
Yeah, New York. And we've said this before. The reason
LA Sports have had a great ten year run and
New York Sports hasn't. We have better owners and better executives.
It's not just the quarterbacks, between the Rams and now
the Chargers and the Dodgers and the Clippers Lakers. I
feel like out here between Balmer, Stan Kronkey, I mean

(12:00):
Anas went and got Harball, I feel like our executive
suites and our.

Speaker 4 (12:05):
Owners are better out here as Stafford and Herbert of
the quarterbacks in LA. In New York, you've got Aaron
Rodgers and Daniel Jones.

Speaker 6 (12:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (12:15):
Nice little match up there.

Speaker 1 (12:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (12:17):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and noon Easter not a em Pacific on Fox Sports
Radio FS one and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (12:26):
So I'm reading a story this morning from the Athletic
and multiple AFC sources, executives, coaches are commenting on Aaron Rodgers,
and we talked about this. I think anytime you get
into this sort of savior stuff, you're in big trouble.

(12:47):
And I'll talk about that, but let's first go to
the quotes, and you're going to get better quotes. If
they're anonymous. People don't want to put their name out there.
But the first one is Aaron's trying to play it
as if he's ten years younger. He's not close to
the same player. He's jumpy, has missed some throws I've
never seen him miss at one executive. Here's another. He
wants to play the way he's most comfortable. I've noted

(13:08):
that several times. He doesn't have the offensive line or
skilled group to play that way. Here's an executive who
said his skill erosion. Aaron's skill erosion is real. Not
being able to extend plays with his feet puts a
lot of pressure on the offensive line to be firm
up the middle and the playmakers to get open quicker.

(13:29):
So ask yourself. Let's talk about this the whole savior thing.
So Stafford goes to LA. He wasn't the savior. They
got to the Super Bowl with Jared Goff. They just
wanted to upgrade over a really good quarterback because they
were struggling to beat San Francisco and it was getting
uner mcvay's skin against his rival Kyle Shanahan. Stafford wasn't
a savior, by the way, Brady to Tampa wasn't a savior.

(13:52):
They had a super Bowl winning coach and Bruce Arians
an excellent general manager. They were third in the league
in offense. They just wanted to lean up Jameis Winston's mistakes.
I mean, you go back for that year. I swear
to god, Jamis had like thirty touchdowns, twenty five picks.
It was a mess, but the talent was there, had
a super Bowl roster. They just needed a right tackle
and they drafted Tristan Wurf's. Brady wasn't a savior. He

(14:16):
was more like a janitor cleaning up the mess. Then
you had Kirk Cousins in Atlanta. He's not a savior.
They have arguably the second and third best offensive line.
It's a winnable division. They've got nice weapons. They just
need those weapons to be elevated by a veteran, accurate,
composed quarterback. He's not a savior. Let's go to Peyton

(14:37):
Manning in Denver. He wasn't a savior. They made the
playoffs the year before with Tim Tebow. If you remember
that team you went to in Denver, they had good players,
they had a good back. If I recall it with C. J. Anderson.
I think that Eric Decker they had. They had really
good players. Again, they just needed to elevate throwing the

(14:59):
ball down the field. They had a lot of elements
in place. They were a playoff team. They did not
need a savior. But Russell Wilson in Denver felt like
a savior didn't work. Aaron Rodgers as a savior, as
a forty year old off Achilles surgery, it just doesn't work.
And I think this savior stuff is nonsense, especially forty.

(15:20):
You get hurt your first game against Buffalo, you come
back the following year, and you tend to be kind
of a rigid personality. You don't want motion there. You
kind of want to do things your way. I've talked
about this single never married, no kids, You don't sacrifice
a lot. You don't want to sacrifice in football. As
the executive said, he wants to be comfortable. I've been
saying this about Aaron for years. He doesn't like this comfort. Well,
that's that's quarterback play, especially when you're brought in with

(15:43):
an impulsive owner, a defensive coach for the losing record,
a makeshift offensive line. So I think, honestly, the Jets
were sold to Billy Goods. You know, they went online
to buy a late night health supplement and they thought
it would change everything, and it was just a sugar pill.
And now is the sugar crash. That's all. This is

(16:03):
so the savior stuff. Brady and Tampa wasn't a savior.
Peyton and Denver wasn't a savior. Stafford in LA wasn't
a savior. Russell and Denver felt like it. Aaron in
New York feels like it. It doesn't work. Alex Smith
wasn't a savior in Kansas City when they drafted him.
They made the playoffs the Andy Reid or Patrick Mahomes.

(16:24):
He won't the savior. They made the playoffs that Alex
Smith made a Pro Bowl in the AFC, that Andy
Reid had a hunt family. He wasn't saving anything when
they drafted him. They moved up the board because they
thought they had themselves the next Brett farre But he
wasn't saving anything. He was just elevating. Stafford was elevating.
Brady was elevating and cleaning up. Kirk Cousins. Is competency

(16:45):
This savior stuff it is. It is a late night
supplement on television. It doesn't change anything. Stop eating donuts,
that's what changes stuff. Get your diet right. You're not
going to be saved in a late night Infomerciaal what
you buy for eighteen ninety nine, So sugarpill. Well, here's
the crash. J Mack with the news.

Speaker 2 (17:05):
This is the herdline news.

Speaker 4 (17:08):
All right, let's go to the forty nine ers. They
enter their bye week in a three way tie atop
the NFC West Cardinals and Seahawks right behind him.

Speaker 2 (17:17):
Uh, but a big boost is coming.

Speaker 4 (17:19):
Christian McCaffrey is close to his return from an achilles injury. Yeah,
here's Kyle Syanahan with the latest.

Speaker 7 (17:25):
He's got no stepback, so it looks like we're on track,
but we're gonna he's gonna hit it hard this week
while we're gone and kind of simulate some practice stuff
for himself and as long as it all goes good,
hopefully we'll get him back in practice. Thanks for so
we know it's gonna be at least a month and
shut him down for a while and now build them
up slowly and things have been going well, so uh

(17:46):
now it's gonna be nice to get him back hopefully.

Speaker 1 (17:48):
Further record they won't have Brandon Aiyuke this year. But
do you kind of feel like we've beat up on
the Niners so much this year and the au noise
I you gets heard Christian McCaffrey's not there. All Niner
games feel like standalone or big TV games. So when
they make mistakes, you see all of them. They're not

(18:09):
the Jaguars who can make mistakes all month. You don't
see them. When the Niners make mistakes, we talk about
them on shows like this, everybody does. But now it
feels like they're under the radar and getting healthy, and
it sort of feels like if they won six of
their next seven, I think the Rams and the Niners
could both get interestingly hot here.

Speaker 4 (18:29):
Yeah, they're an undervalued stock right now. Now beat up
for a while. I mean, listen, Jennings is gonna be healthy.
He's missed some time. Obviously, they're not getting a ukback,
but pierceall now getting more time to get act with.

Speaker 1 (18:38):
The rookie receivers are actually now components.

Speaker 4 (18:40):
Well, maybe finally get debo at one hundred percent soon.
Green Law is expected to come back on the defensive side.
They were down. I think the Telecash Show they were
down six starters against the cow.

Speaker 1 (18:51):
And good starters.

Speaker 4 (18:51):
I mean, like, yeah, we're talking Christian McCaffrey, you know,
like real good players. I think you're right, there's some
value in the Niners. And let's see if the NFC
North beats itself up Lions, Packers and all of a
sudden next thing, you know, oh wait, the Niners are
in position to maybe make a run at the number
one seed, because that's not out of play yet. I
do believe the Eagles if you look at their schedule,
calling Eagles are probably the favorite for the number one seed.

(19:14):
Lions are probably the best team.

Speaker 1 (19:16):
I don't think Nick Sirianni should be a favorite for anything.
Let's just I'm not sure Washington doesn't win that division. Seriously.

Speaker 4 (19:24):
Yeah, okay, all right, let's move on to the Denver Broncos. Boy,
they are one of the hotter teams in the league.
Fifth win in six games after taking down the Panther Sunday.
If you're watching at home on TV, look at Sean
Payton had some drama with Panthers quarterback J. C. Horn
Horn was yelling at Peyton about running up the score.
Peyton addressed it after the game here we go oh boy.

Speaker 1 (19:45):
Ch After the game, a number of Panthers players that
were frustrated felt like you were running a line. No,
I know, how do you respond to that?

Speaker 7 (19:54):
Listen, I said it last night. We're trying to finish
the game the right way. We're not trying to run
up score on any one. It's the National Football League.

Speaker 1 (20:01):
I've been in games with the twenty eight point lead
in the fourth quarter and lock.

Speaker 7 (20:05):
So we're trying to finish. The Burton throw from Sutton
is trying to continue a drive.

Speaker 1 (20:10):
Played better exactly, don't that's such a week out Like
Carolina players, just get over it. Play better. I mean
when they ran the trick play, everybody was like, oh,
but ask yourself. Bow Nicks is a rookie quarterback. Franklin's
a rookie receiver. It's still a pretty young football team.
On the offensive side. He's trying to give his team

(20:32):
real in game looks. Yeah, I got I mean, by
the way Detroit is thumping people. They have multiple players
each week throwing passes, and Detroit's ahead by three touchdowns.
I don't have a problem with it at all.

Speaker 4 (20:43):
Putting some stuff on tape that other teams that I'll
have to watch for I got no problem with this
interesting note here Sean Payton coached j C. Horn's dad,
Joe Horn, remember the guy who had hit the cell
phone in the end zone. So it's a very odd take.
It just feels like a Panthers guy who's depressed on
the worst team in the league.

Speaker 1 (21:03):
Again, Peyton's Broncos didn't. They lose seventy two to twenty
to the Dolphins game and Sean Payton did not complain.
It's life in football, college or pro.

Speaker 4 (21:15):
Final story is the Eagles. I'm surprised you're down on them.
Are just not sold yet. But listen, third straight win,
AJ Brown healthy and look the trade deadline is approaching.
Colin Nick Sirianni was asked about potential moves to improve
the roster.

Speaker 6 (21:32):
That we have, and I think this team's really coming together.
With that being said, I know, you know, we're always
looking for ways to improve our team, and I know
how he's one of the best at that, the best
at that of always always always looking at ways that
he can improve the football team and admire that and
value that of how he goes to work there.

Speaker 1 (21:57):
Yeah, I think their roster's fine. I don't think they
need help. I think they need help at head coach,
but I don't think they need help on the roster.
I just don't. I don't see their roster as having holes.
There's nothing they do terribly.

Speaker 4 (22:10):
Man they want at the Cincion one by twenty handily,
Like that's a really impressive win. You're still not like
you're just out on Sirianni, which I get he's ye
kind of a buffoon.

Speaker 1 (22:21):
Well, I don't need to and I'm not gonna name call.
I just I don't think this is the guy that
can go toe to toe with the best coaches in
the league in January and February and win. He'll be exposed.

Speaker 4 (22:30):
Yeah. He also had another sideline moment with one of
his teammates who he started messing with the guy's helmet
and the guys like, dude, come on, just stop and
there was like ten seconds left in the game, and
it's like, what's Sirianni doing. There's always something with this guy.
I am bullish on the Eagles. I would not be
shocked if they were in the super Bowl. I know
you're not a believer in that on that level, but
this AJ Brown man, he changes we've seen receivers get

(22:50):
hurt this year. Right Stafford looked pedestrian without Guka and
Cup Baker Mayfield this weekend is spotty without Godwinning Evans, C. J. Stroud,
No Nico Collins, he looks okay. AJ Brown's back. Jalen
Hurts looked awesome this weekend. Man, Yeah, I think this
is a good to eagle scene.

Speaker 1 (23:07):
Right Jmack with the news.

Speaker 2 (23:10):
Well, that's the news, and thanks for stopping by the
linew more on.

Speaker 1 (23:14):
The Dodgers and the Yankees. Before the end of the hour,
I was looking at the playoff picture in the AFC.
Pittsburgh is now third. They lead their division, the AFC North,
which is a really really good division. So we have
had I have had my criticisms of the Pittsburgh Steelers
and Mike Tomlin that he's a little tone deaf offensively,
they don't really have a plan or a purpose. They
haven't won a playoff game in seven seasons. I think

(23:37):
my criticisms have been fair, and they still may not
win a playoff game, but I do think this last
couple of weeks proved something that Tomlin knows how to
push the right buttons and quickly pivoting off Kenny Pickett
and a four and two Justin Fields. He's more self
aware and offensive aware than we give him credit for now.

(23:58):
I don't think Russell Wilson's nest necessarily a super Bowl
winning answer, but he's clearly he has changed. Mike Tomlin
has changed his philosophy. He realizes you just can't be
dominant on defense. I mean, they got to the playoffs
and he moved off, you know, Kenny Pickett, and then
Mason Rudolph's gone, and then Justin Field is on the

(24:18):
bench at four and two, and there's a lot of
defensive coaches that would not have done that. So I
do think you can have a great defense and make
the playoffs, but you have a ceiling and it's low,
and you find out in January February it's much lower
than you think. So a perfect answer at quarterback, I
don't think they have. But they have an answer and
a plan and it's obvious. And there was a moment

(24:39):
in the second half when Mike Tomlin looked square into
the camera and gave a thumbs up as he trolling
us where Tomlin was right. If you actually look at
the Pittsburgh Steelers schedule going forward. Now they have a
buy and then it's Washington that's a real winnable game,
Baltimore at home, and a lot of at Cleveland at

(25:00):
Cincinnati Cleveland. There's a lot of w's here for the
Pittsburgh Steelers going forward. So again, I don't know if
it's the answer, but Tomlin deserves credit for pivoting off
quarterbacks that could win games but had an incredibly low ceiling,
and that ceiling was always realized in January and here

(25:23):
was Russell Wilson after another win.

Speaker 4 (25:26):
It just makes the game fun when you get to
be around great guys.

Speaker 1 (25:29):
The huddle, the huddle's great.

Speaker 7 (25:30):
I mean, just the guys are believers, working our tails
off every day, and you know, the only thing that
you can control is your work ethic.

Speaker 1 (25:39):
You know, you really get to control that part of.

Speaker 7 (25:41):
It, and then it shows up in the game and
we were able to make plays like that.

Speaker 1 (25:45):
It's it's not a surprise that hard work pays off. Yeah.
I like that. I like that better than slogans like
that was a real authentic moment. All you can control
is your work ethic. And I don't have a problem
with the Pittsburgh Steelers making the playoffs. Not every team
that may the playoffs. I mean, let's be honest. The
Chiefs now are ninety percent fields like defense and clever

(26:06):
offensive plays in big moments. Baltimore is much better offensively
than defensively. None everybody looks the same. Philadelphia is winning
on roster, not coaching. Pittsburgh I felt was winning not
enough in key spots. But you know, I watched it
last night. The bigger issue is did not feel like

(26:26):
officially the Daniel Jones experiment is over. We'll get to
that as well. It felt like last night it's official
standalone game. Another dud, the ugly two point conversion. It
was like, okay, it's over. And it's interesting when you
start thinking about teams that need a quarterback. There's about
four in each conference. There's about eight or nine teams,

(26:49):
if you're being totally honest, that need a quarterback. Pittsburgh's
not one of them. You can win a division with
this team right here. I don't know if you will.
I think Baltimore will. You can win a division, and
I think you could probably win a playoff game multiple
I don't know if that's the case.

Speaker 2 (27:03):
Be sure to catch live editions of the Herd weekdays

Speaker 3 (27:08):
Game three of this World Series, Dodgers and the Yankees,
with the LA up two games to not Schmid to Freeman, It's.

Speaker 1 (27:15):
Ripped down the line.

Speaker 3 (27:17):
It is gone. A fifth consecutive World Series game with
a Freddie Freeman.

Speaker 2 (27:23):
Homer On Wilfy hooks it in the left field.

Speaker 3 (27:27):
Here comes Stanton, Here comes Hernandez's throw. Here it is
beIN time, perfectly thrown ty Oscar Hernandez comes down Stanton
at home playing the Dodgers domin eight.

Speaker 2 (27:41):
Game three, they're.

Speaker 3 (27:42):
All win away from a World championship.

Speaker 8 (27:47):
Tonight on Fox, the twenty twenty four World Series continues
with Game four as show A Tani and the Dodgers
take on Aaron Judge and the Yankees. Coverage from the
Yankee Stadium begins at seven pm Eastern on five.

Speaker 1 (28:01):
Well, Aaron Judge can't hit. Aaron Judge is hitting eighty
three with seven strikeouts in the World Series. It's the
highest strikeout rate in postseason history. So it's ugly. So
here's the thing. When I'm watching this. If Otani you
got a bad shoulder, if Otani's hurt and nodded one
hundred percent. Next man up for the Dodgers. If Aaron

(28:22):
Judge isn't hitting well, you're totally dependent on like Soto
and Stanton to deliver power. In fact, I saw this
number in the So far the Yankees offense in the
World Series. Soto and Stanton are hitting three h four.
Everybody else is hitting a buck fifty and so when
Aaron Judge isn't hitting, this is a very top heavy
team Offensively, nine Dodgers have hit multiple home runs in

(28:48):
the playoffs. Nine the whole batting order Yankees have three
and one can't hit, so when Aaron Judge dries up,
you can feel it. The Dodgers also have four batters
with at least ten RBI in the postseason. The Yankees
have one. So I mean, they paid for it, and
they have it, and they're probably gonna go buy Soto.

(29:08):
But the Dodgers are deeper, they're better, They're not as
top heavy. And again Otani's probably plane at seventy five percent.
But when Aaron Judge isn't hitting at all, it just
feels like that their offense is Sodo Stanton and cross
your fingers, you know, and you can say Here's what
I keep thinking watching this. I still think San Diego

(29:29):
matches up better with the Dodgers than anybody else. I
really felt during the Dodgers Padres series, I think San
Diego is gonna win this thing. In the end. They
couldn't hit the Mets. I just felt like the Dodgers
had far more good players than the Mets. The Mets
had one great player, a bunch of good players. Dodgers
have several great players. With the Yankees, I feel you
have a really top heavy team starting pitching, a couple

(29:51):
of aces, a couple of big power guys, but the
drop off is substantial. And here's Aaron Boone on how
Aaron Judge can get back on track tonight.

Speaker 2 (30:00):
Come ready to go tomorrow.

Speaker 4 (30:01):
He's Aaron Judge, and just continue to work and hopefully
get on time and connect on.

Speaker 1 (30:07):
Some Okay, speaking of New York, so I don't think
many people in New York watched the Giants. It was
a Yankees night. Maybe they flipped over after the freddie
Freeman home run, but there was a moment it felt
like it was official that Daniel Jones experiment is over.
We thought it was over. During HBO Max's preseason hard
knocks when the GM and the coach sounded like they
didn't want him. But it was fourth quarter, twenty three

(30:30):
to fifteen, Giants score a touchdown, they're going for two
to only trail by six. And here's the play. The
snapper Evan Neil, who had never snapped the ball in
his career, snapped the ball a little early. It's a mess.
But here's where I'll defend Brian Dabele and I did
not defend the Bears on a goofy play. Is that
when your quarterback's not very good, you need to fool
people on plays like this. And I think Brian Dable

(30:52):
comes into this game, he goes, we're at Pittsburgh, it's
the Steelers defense, and I have Daniel Jones at quarterback.
We have to fool them. The Chicago Bears handing the
ball to a center Caleb Williams is dynamic. That offense
at tight end, wide receiver, running back, it is dynamic.
And we don't think, we don't think Washington's defense is
equal to Pittsburgh's defense. When you go to win game

(31:14):
like that, it's on the road, it's Pittsburgh, and you
have Daniel Jones, You got a fool people. I mean,
Detroit's doing stuff and they don't have to fool people.
Kansas City's doing tricks and they don't have to fool people.
The execution wasn't very good because the Giants players aren't
very good, So I think the play sums up sort
of the difference in really the Daniel Jones they hadn't.

(31:38):
I read this this morning. That was their first touchdown
in twenty two drives, and that's with Brian Dable, so
I think they have to start over. It's like it's
like bringing a zany character into a struggling sitcom and
it kind of feels desperate, and that's what the Giants
feel like, and that play felt like it's just sort
of desperate. But I want to talk about this second

(32:00):
because we got into this this morning. We got into
this this morning, and it's funny because this weekend Jmack
told me he's done with Aaron Rodgers. He's over it.
So I'm watching Daniel Jones last night, and there's a
story this morning that the Indianapolis Coles quote are evaluating
everything because, as we told you yesterday Anthony Richardson ten

(32:22):
for thirty two, they can't sustain drives. It's big player bust.
And he is completing forty four percent this year. That's
fifteen percent lower than last year. So he's getting worse.
With Shane Stiken and Michael Pittman and Jonathan Taylor, he's
getting worse. Meaning the NFL got film of him. I

(32:47):
mean last year he was a bit of an experiment
and Shane Steiken's a good coach. So the rest of
the NFL is like, what is this guy? Well, what
it's telling you for him to drop with Shane Steikin
is everybody now has film on him and they just
know he can't make about seventy five percent of the
throws a franchise quarterback makes. It's not that his mechanics
are getting worse. It's not that he's getting worse. Everybody

(33:10):
around him now it's like Tebow, you saw the truth.
He can't make certain throws. And so if you're totally
honest right now, if you're totally honest about teams that
don't have a quarterback that can't really win a playoff
game unless everything went perfect, I would say to me

(33:31):
there are eight teams total in the NFL that need
to get a quarterback Titans, Colts, Raiders, Cleveland and then Giants, Carolina,
Saints and Seahawks to really elevate. Gino's probably the best
in that group. But if you're really talking about winning
multiple playoff games, those teams have to upgrade. What is

(33:51):
interesting and JA, this is really interesting and people are
finally starting to come around on this is Aaron Rodgers
in that group. Hold on, I went back this morning
to twenty five games. I won't count the game he
was hurt last year. Game one four place, won't count it.
So let's go twenty five games, big solid number. He's

(34:12):
had different coaches, different organizations, different coordinators, different wide receivers
in those twenty five games for Aaron Rodgers, he has
no three hundred yard passing games, longest streak in the league. None.
And let me name the receivers that he has had
an opportunity in those games to throw to, Alan Lazard,

(34:32):
Devonte Adams, Garrett Wilson, Christian Watson, Romeo Dobbs, above average
tight ends in Green Bay. He's had the weapons he
had Matt Lafleur zero three hundred games. His passer rating
in those twenty five games eighty eight, and he has
a sixty three percent completion percentage. Again, that's two teams,

(34:55):
multiple coordinators. Sixty three percent is smack dab average in
the middle. And that's what Aaron's become. He is also
ten and fifteen in those twenty five games. So what
is happening. He's not only a savior, He's not a savior.
So Aaron's not only not the savior, he is now
just a guy in the NFL. He's just a guy.

(35:17):
He's a well paid, forty year old guy who throws
a pretty football. That's what he is. So I'm watching
Daniel Jones last night, and the good news is at
least the Giants know we don't have the guy. The
Jets still do and they're fooling themselves. There's a big

(35:38):
difference when everybody in the room is arguing whether we
have the guy. The Giants all know we don't. The
Titans know we don't. Everybody. Everybody in Cleveland knows we
got to get out of this. Everybody in Carolina knows
we got to redraft it. At least you know where
to go. I think Indianapolis privately knows they don't have

(35:58):
the guy. I don't think it it's public they don't
want to ruin his confidence. I think they know. I
don't think the Jets know. I do not think the Jets.

Speaker 8 (36:09):
No.

Speaker 1 (36:09):
I believe the Jets think the problems are everything else.
And my argument is, Dude, this roster, it's not a
five win roster. It's a ten to eleven win roster.
Ask yourself this, what holds a ten to eleven win
roster to five or six wins around the league? One thing? Quarterback?

(36:31):
If you have an a ten win roster, what holds
it to six wins? Indianapolis has a ten win roster.
They're not going to get there. I mean, ask yourself.
I mean I look at the Colts and I think, oh,
there's ten wins there. They got an elite corner, pass rusher, receiver, back,
head coach. It's the quarterback quarterback in New York too.

Speaker 4 (36:55):
Can I ask you on Anthony Richardson? And again, he
has been abysmal Colin He's been in the league for
two years, He's had ten starts. That's it. I'm not
saying he's going to be the next Josh Allen and
totally turn things around. But Josh Allen, go look at
his first year numbers, They were not Anthony Richardson bad,
but they were bad. He turned it around. I don't

(37:15):
think the Colts are drafting a quarterbacks just yet. Richardson
may not be the guy, but ten starts is not enough.
Come on, we got to give him at least another season, right.

Speaker 1 (37:23):
Okay, so you have multiple components. So Josh Allen was
staying healthy. We knew Josh Allen was viewed. Mel Kiper
had him as the tenth best quarterback prospect ever. Yeah, okay,
that fair enough. He was and very quickly. Even in
his rookie year, he was making throws, jumping over linebackers.
Anthony Richardsson struggled with health. Has a Remember Allen had

(37:48):
a defensive coach and a bad old line. The Colts
have one of the best running backs, best run blocking
oh lines, and a brilliant offensive coach and he's going
backwards and can't stay health.

Speaker 4 (38:00):
Taylor has been hurt a lot. I'm trying to look
up this Josh Allen. Do you remember his first playoff
game calling against the Houston Texans.

Speaker 1 (38:07):
Was a Saturday game.

Speaker 4 (38:08):
Yes, Josh Allen was like really really bad in that game.
I think he had Yes, he had a criminally bad Fumblekay,
he missed like twenty throws five point seven yards per attempt,
took some bad size. He was bad, But that was
year two. Okay, we have to take a little bit
of a deep breath.

Speaker 1 (38:25):
But don't you have to also acknowledge in a division
didn't Tom Brady was still in New England. Belichick and
Brady were still in New England. Yeah, yeah, yeah, And
he made the playoffs with the best quarterback and best
coach arguably ever. He made the playoffs. Fair Anthony Richardson
in a bad division, in one of the weaker divisions

(38:46):
went playoffs. Was they going to get to six wins?

Speaker 4 (38:49):
The Texans are viewed as a Super Bowl contender. Listen,
I'm down on Richardson, clearly, there's no way to be
up on him. But it's still just ten games. Would
you agree with that?

Speaker 3 (39:00):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (39:00):
First of all, he came in raw, right, so you
knew it was gonna take a while. But when he
when when you're when you're worst the second year with
the right coach, that tells me, it's not the coach
that tells me the league is finding out he just
can't do stuff with Josh Allen. It was bumpy, but
the more he played, the numbers increased because he could
do anything.

Speaker 4 (39:21):
Yeah, no, that's fair. Let me just ask you about
the Jets. So I just as you were talking about
the draft, I looked this up. Uh, somebody has a
pro a Pro Football Focus has a mock draft out.
Do you know where the Jets are are drafting in
the in the mock draft?

Speaker 1 (39:33):
Sixth?

Speaker 2 (39:33):
Fourth?

Speaker 4 (39:34):
Okay, what do they do in this draft? Are they
not taking a quarterback at fourth? They have to and
then Aaron Rodgers is gonna be kicked off? Right, Hey, guys,
we've got an eleven win roster according to Calberd. Aren't
we gonna fortify the roster? The Jets have to take
a quarterback at four. No, you can't not take one.
I mean, Shador is probably gonna be gone, cam Wartill definitely.

Speaker 1 (39:55):
I think what the if I was the Jets and
had the sixth pick, Shador Sanders is the only first
round quarterback I would trade down. I would find a sucker.
I'd get multiple picks, and then I think I'd go
draft like a Riley Leonard.

Speaker 4 (40:08):
Oh for a year, vomit in my mouth.

Speaker 1 (40:11):
Riley Leonard for a year behind Aaron, I'm telling you
there's something there. Oh my gosh heard hierarchy.

Speaker 4 (40:17):
