(00:22):
listening to Fox Sports Radio. Just watching the Dodger parade
starting up around Los Angeles. It's not Jmack. Isn't it
nice to be living in a city with winners? Can
you imagine living in New York right now? I mean,
they have it a decade of nonsense.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
I will not stand for this New York slammer.

Speaker 3 (00:44):
Where am I wrong?

Speaker 2 (00:45):
You don't need to say, you don't need to go there.

Speaker 4 (00:47):
Let's I mean, I'm sure like some of the hockey
teams in New York, the Rangers are out.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
Maybe they're winning stuff. We just don't know.

Speaker 3 (00:55):
WI B A D A.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
There you go, thank you, pretty sir. Ryan Music.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
Then gonna shot at anybody.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
I try to be positive, But like that Dodger Yankee series,
it wasn't competitive.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
Hold on, okay, it wasn't competitive.

Speaker 4 (01:08):
Saying this, so I finally got to chime in Game one,
Yankees were in control of that for most of the
game until the very end. Game five, they were up
five nothing before the collapse.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
So like they were competitive in a few of the games.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
Oh in game one. In Game five they had quite
an effort and they won Game four. How about this,
Freddy Freeman launched home runs in the first inning multiple times.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
Freddy Freeman is awesome.

Speaker 5 (01:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:29):
Yeah, to say he's.

Speaker 4 (01:31):
Clutched the definition of clutch. You look up the dictionary clutch.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
Freddy Foe and I read a story the other day
where we knew he had a bad leg. He also
had like cartilage rib cartilage all ruptured, which I bizarrely
had several years ago because of a ski accident.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
I don't know how the hell he swung a bat
doing that.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
Did you quit skiing after that? By the way, just
carreed for.

Speaker 1 (01:50):
No, I didn't quit skiing for but I couldn't skied
the remainder of that season.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
Basketball is safer than skiing. Just fay on.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
Let me just tell you something. I stand on business.
So when I get hurt, I still ski, but it
is painful.

Speaker 4 (02:04):
I'm nursing a groin injury, so I haven't been hoop
playing hoops this week, we have a buy because with
a number one seed, I know you care deeply about
this stuff.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
Well, let's be let's be fair.

Speaker 5 (02:13):
Now.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
Been a bad decade, but Aaron Rodgers and the Jets
snapped a five game losing streak last night at home
beat the Texans, and although they weren't impressive throughout most
of the game, it all started to click in the
most important fourth quarter. If they end up kind of
turning it around, one play is the catalyst. The catch

(02:35):
by Garrett Wilson remarkable. That was a third and nineteen
in the fourth quarter, and they just were stop and
start offensively all game. Backup kicker, You didn't trust them.
They trailed ten to seven. That catch and the Texans
inability to protect CJ. Stroud, who was sacked eight times,
infused real life and energy into Aaron Rodgers. The sideline,

(02:55):
the crowd before that catch, it kind of felt like
they just couldn't keep any momentum going.

Speaker 3 (03:03):
Second half.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
I thought Aaron Rodgers played well, but that was the
play a third and nineteen, fourth quarter trailing. Can't trust
your kicker, he's a backup. I mean even on that
drive before that third and nineteen great catch. They failed
on a fourth and one. The Texans had a penalty
and it bailed them out. So two and seven was
staring this team right in the face of fans had

(03:25):
bags on, they were I read this morning. Apparently I
couldn't hear this. They were chanting sell the team at
Metlive Stadium.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
So nice win.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
Now, nothing changes about the core of the Jets, right.
We don't love the owner, it's an interim coach. They're
on their second play caller. I mean, they had a
touchdown nullified because some rookie wide receiver dropped the ball
to one yard line.

Speaker 3 (03:49):
They had a.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
Couple really really bad special teams penalties. I mean, nothing
is really really changed right at their core. They beat themselves.
They make silly mistakes. But that catch and Aaron Rodgers
in the second half where he had a passer rating
of one forty seven point seven, it feels like something.
And there is a route. There is a route to

(04:12):
the playoffs. You get to play the Dolphins twice, okay again,
you get a lot of teams like the Colts, you
beat the Texans last night, the Jaguars teams you could
be battling for a wild card spot in the AFC.
You're not as good as Buffalo, Baltimore, Kansas City. They're
gonna win their divisions. But you beat the Texans, they

(04:33):
may be battling you for a wild card team. You
could beat the Colts at home, the Jaguars. You have
a chance here. All these teams that are gonna end
up in that eight and nine win territory. You got
one done. You already lost to Denver, so you got
to win the rest of them. But even when the
Jets win and Aaron place pretty well in the second half,
you don't trust them because they are a guidebook on

(04:55):
how not to run a franchise, despite the occasional brilliant
catch or pass. I mean, this is their first win
since September nineteenth. Think about that, the Baseball Playoffs hadn't
started yet. That's the last time they won. I think
Kamala Harris had just been nominated a few weeks earlier,
right like, so it had been a long time, and

(05:18):
it was a home game on a short week against
the team that's ravaged by injuries, the Texan. But you
know what's the day after Halloween, So enjoy your snickers
and enjoy your Jets win. At least at least we
know Snickers satisfies three and six doesn't feel very satisfying.

(05:39):
But I will say this, Aaron had a lot of energy.
There are some offensive weapons. You're playing a lot of
teams and just beat one that you'll probably be battling
for an AFC wildcard spot. Here's Aaron after on Garrett
Wilson's remarkable catch that could be the catalyst for the season.

Speaker 6 (06:00):
Extra long. I was looking at the weak side safety
and I was like, if he drops down at all,
I'm just gonna say, screw it. I'm gonna throw it
up to g I feel like I put it in
a decent spot, but yeah, I didn't do a whole lot.
When it comes down to it, I just got a
lob one up. Though he made an unbelievable catch.

Speaker 3 (06:19):
W had to go Jets.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
It was a great catch, had an obj feel, one
leg down and the shin. I really believe there are
moments in life for teams, for people, for businesses when
you can look back and go man. It just gave
us energy. And if you watch the Jets sideline after
that play, it was like there's a little juice here,
we'll see what transpire is going forward.

Speaker 3 (06:41):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
So I said this yesterday and I believe it one
of the more interesting games of the weekend. Chicago Bears
Arizona Cardinals. I think it's really interesting because the Bear schedule,
they get a couple of winnable games next, then they
go into a brutal, brutal schlog against all the teams
in their division. So Caleb Williams, the quarterback for the Bears,

(07:03):
young talented kid, his dad, was messing around on the
x or Twitter last night. He has since deleted it,
but at one point he looked like he took a
shot at the Bear's coaching staff by complimenting the commander's
coaching staff hashtag accountability, hashtag real coach. So dads do

(07:26):
the strangest things. He has since deleted it, And I
was just thinking about, you know, don't we kind of
all know how the Bear season's gonna end.

Speaker 3 (07:37):
We do.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
They're gonna win about seven or eight games, They're gonna
finish in fourth place in a great division, and then
Matt Eberflus is not gonna feel like the right coach.
That's everything I predicted about seven weeks ago before the
season started fourth place, eber Blu's in trouble and they're
gonna win about seven or eight games. It's turning out
that way week to week. The NFL's kind of unpredictable, right.

(07:59):
It feels crazy, but it's really not in a macro level.
In fact, my shocking playoff team, the Commanders. Even the
surprises aren't that great of a revelation. I said, I
think Commander is going to surprise people. They're the surprise
team in the league. They're not that surprising. There are
three things, though, and this is why I feel strongly

(08:20):
about my preseason prediction on the Bears and why it's
coming true. There are kind of three things that work
against the Bears. Number one is the Commander's staff is
making their rookie quarterback Jaden Daniels look so seamless, so excellent,
so amazing.

Speaker 3 (08:38):
You know you're being compared to that.

Speaker 1 (08:40):
And with Caleb Williams, it feels like it's like one
step forward, one step back. Okay, let's refine the reads,
let's simplify the offense. It looks very bumpy and very
very turbulent, and in Washington it just looks like great coaching,
great kid going in one direction, so that's working against you.
The second thing that works against you pretty predictable Packers,

(09:04):
great quarterback, great offensive coach, Vikings, good quarterback, great offensive coach,
Lions excellent quarterback. I mean, Dan Campbell's been an excellent
coach so far. Offense, offense, offense, offense, Bears, what do
you know, defensive coach and the offenses all over the map.
So again you're going to be compared to the Commanders,
You're going to be compared to the quarterbacks and the

(09:25):
coaching in your division. And the third thing working against
eber Flus And why I think my prediction was, you know,
pretty easy on the Bears is their history. Everybody in
Chicago is like much time left?

Speaker 3 (09:38):
Do we really.

Speaker 1 (09:38):
Trust the Bears to elevate an excellent, young, talented quarterback.
They've never had a four thousand yard in one season,
a four thousand yard quarterback, so there's no confidence the
organization can get it done. And I would argue strongly
they already screwed it up by interviewing If Kingsbury, who

(10:01):
was Caleb's coach in college at USC and they let
him walk out of the building without a contract.

Speaker 3 (10:06):
He wanted.

Speaker 1 (10:07):
Reportedly, I was told he wanted to work with Caleb
Williams and they passed on him. And look at what
a great job Kingsbury's doing with Jaden Daniels, who he's
never worked with before.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
But it's crushing it.

Speaker 1 (10:18):
So Caleb's dad inflaming things, and don't kid yourself. People
are talking about that, you know, parents knowing their kids
are unhappy. Caleb's dad inflaming things is only about number
thirty eight on the list of things I worry about,
you know, and all things stated. It should be also
duly noted that Bear's players this week went out and

(10:40):
criticized publicly the Bear staff.

Speaker 3 (10:43):
So I don't think.

Speaker 1 (10:44):
I don't think the dad going hashtag accountability, hashtag real
coach is something I love. But I do think that
Matt Eberflus will get one year to work with Caleb Williams,
and last week that second half meltdown did not play

(11:06):
to his favor. Danny Parkins on our morning show here
breakfast Ball, former Chicago radio host, talks about Eberflus.

Speaker 7 (11:13):
The thing with Matt Eberflus that drives me insane is
don't you know what on my shoes and tell me
it's raining, like he was, like, I don't think we
needed a time out before the hail Mary because everyone
was in position.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
Tyreek Stevenson back was to the ball like.

Speaker 3 (11:27):
Everyone wasn't in position.

Speaker 7 (11:29):
Matt Eberflus kind of chose the route of denial instead
of accountability. And that's the thing, honestly, more than the
failed execution that bothered me most.

Speaker 1 (11:37):
All right, Albert Breer, we got trade deadline stuff, injury
stuff to talk about. If you play fantasy football. Puka
Nikouha's injury. Is there another coach on a hotter seat
than you realize. We'll talk about that coming up. I
think there is.

Speaker 8 (11:51):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and noon eastern non a em Pacific.

Speaker 3 (11:56):
By the way, this just came down.

Speaker 1 (11:57):
Penn State quarterback Drew Aller is expected to play Saturday
against Ohio State. Multiple sources say tell On three Sports.
So that's a big deal. I didn't think it was
a winnable game with a backup quarterback. It is a
winnable game for Penn State. He was injured against Wisconsin.
Good college quarterback. I think I like Will Howard better,

(12:18):
but he's a good college quarterback, but you're not gonna
beat Ohio State, even though they have their own issues.
You're not gonna beat him with a backup quarterback. The
everything that is an advantage for Ohio State the games
at noon. You don't want to play those night games
in Baton Rouge or any of these big college towns.
Everybody's lubricated. Half of these college kids at Penn State
are getting out of bed and walk into the stadium.

(12:38):
They won't be awake until the third quarter. So that's
a break. But I will say Drew Aller, if I
was a Buckeye fan, I would rather have not faced him.
He's gonna play, and we bring a Buckeye graduate, Albert
Breer on the program. Okay, I mean I want to
ask you because you get very emotional with this stuff.
I like Ohio State to win this game. I think

(13:01):
it's low scoring and close. But as somebody who's a
die hard Buckeye fan, I think the program feels like
whack a mole. Every time they solve something, there's something
else I don't like.

Speaker 3 (13:11):
Is that fair?

Speaker 5 (13:13):
Well?

Speaker 9 (13:13):
First of all, back in my day, noon kickoff was
no excuse for a college kid not to be.

Speaker 10 (13:18):
Looped up and ready to go for kickoffs. So let's
just get that. Let's just get that on the table first. Yeah,
it does feel that way, you know.

Speaker 9 (13:26):
I mean, I I think, as we talked about off
the air, they're the school of Orlando pace in the
that's sitting right there in the Midwest, say Mary of
the country where Michigan and Notre daymar It's kind of
tough to swallow when you've got that issue up front
on the offensive line. Now, it does seem like Will
Howard's played better the last couple of weeks. The skill

(13:47):
talent is undeniable, you know, and then it's like getting
the most out of a defense that has NFL talent
at every level. So the potential Colin is way up here,
but we haven't seen it way up here yet.

Speaker 10 (14:00):
Yeah, maybe Saturday is the day that it comes together.

Speaker 9 (14:03):
You've seen spurts like I think the last two games
nebrask and Oregon, there was a real opportunity in the
second quarter both those games for the Bucks to step
on the accelerator and run away with it.

Speaker 10 (14:15):
They weren't able to do it. So maybe this is
the week.

Speaker 1 (14:17):
By the way, from now on, we're talking Buck eyes
and NFL with you because you know it as well
as anybody.

Speaker 3 (14:22):
Okay, so listen.

Speaker 1 (14:24):
The Ravens made a move, Jets made a move, Chiefs
made a move, Bills made a move. I'm surprised Houston
doesn't look at their offensive line and make a move
at the trade deadline. I'm surprised. I mean the Colts
made a move. It's in house, but they might have moved.
I'll get to that in a second. But it's our
a team. If I was an AFC contender, I'd look

(14:45):
around and go everybody, all the good team's making a move.
Anybody else you think makes a move before the trade deadline.

Speaker 9 (14:51):
Yeah, Houston is an interesting one because you look at
their offensive line and it's not for lack of investment.
Their tackle positions, for the most part, have been fine,
with Laramy, tounsl and Titus on the interior. That's where
the issue has been really showed up last night, is
shown up in spurts over the course of the entire season.
It's why CJ's play hasn't been quite what it was,
you know, as it was his rookie year. And if

(15:14):
you look at those guys, I mean juice Scruggs was,
you know, relatively high draft play pick who played well
as a rookie.

Speaker 10 (15:21):
Kenyan Green's a former first round.

Speaker 9 (15:22):
Pick, and Shaq Mason's a guy it's been in the
league and for a long time and started Super Bowls,
you know. So it's not for lack of investment on
the interior. And I think the issue you have, you know,
if you're Houston now and you want to go find help,
is that generally the teams that have any semblance of
offensive line depth, they are really good teams who aren't
looking to move guys on the roster or help another contender. So,

(15:47):
you know, I think Nick Casario and Demico Ryans would
seriously look at the idea of going and getting a
going and getting another piece for their offensive line to
help you know, CJ. And they hope they get Nico
Collins back here for weeks against the Lions and the
rest of that group. It's just, you know, where are
you going to find him in this climate? There just
aren't enough good linemen to go around, okay, you know,

(16:08):
And then I think you hit on the teams there.
The Ravens obviously add Deontay Johnson. The Chiefs have done it,
Natty josh Ucha and DeAndre Hopkins. The Lions are the
one that I have my eye on, you know, because
they are optimistic they could have Ad Hutchinson back if
they make it to the super Bowl.

Speaker 10 (16:23):
But what do they do between now and then?

Speaker 9 (16:25):
This looks like a really complete football team that now
has that one area where they could you know, use
another piece, And so are they able to you know,
go to.

Speaker 10 (16:36):
Are they able to go to Cleveland and get Zadarius
Smith out of there?

Speaker 9 (16:39):
And they go to Carolina you know and get you
Debbian Clowney, Preston Smith and green Bay is another name.
I assume the Packers wouldn't trade him into Vision to
a team they're going to be fighting with the rest
of the year. But I think Detroit would certainly be
in the market for an edge rusher. So that'd be
the other team that I look at as one that
could be the aggressor.

Speaker 10 (16:58):
If I'm Brad Holmes, I'm.

Speaker 9 (16:59):
Picking up the phone and calling, you know, Cleveland about
Miles Garrett in Vegas about Max Crosby. I don't think
those things are likely, but I think they got to
turn over every rock when it comes to trying to
fill that position.

Speaker 3 (17:08):
All right.

Speaker 1 (17:09):
I did Jim Ersay make the call on Anthony richardson
the very impulsive Colts owner? Did Shane Stiken do it?

Speaker 3 (17:15):
Now?

Speaker 1 (17:16):
I don't think it's that impulsive because I actually think
the roster is the best in their division. I think
it's better than Houston. I really liked the Colts roster.
I don't have a problem with a move. He started
thirteen games in college, even with good weapons in Stik,
and he is regressing. It's not like Josh Allen where
you were seeing about every third or fourth game. Oh
he's a little better, a little more fine, he's winning more.
I mean even Josh Allen's rookie year. First six games

(17:38):
he had a couple of touchdown passes. Last six games
he had six, seven, eight, something like that. But he
was better. But there's some rumors out there. There's talk
that Jim Ersay, who got Carson Wentz out of town
on a year that he had twenty seven touchdown seven
picks because he lost to the Jags in the final week.
Did Ersay make this move or was it the GM
Chris Ballard or the coach?

Speaker 9 (17:58):
It was the coach, it was Shane's I can, and
I think as much as anything, it's about that roster
and serving that roster. And you and I have talked
about this in the past, caling and these sorts of situations.
You know, your veteran players don't care about your three
year plan. They don't care about who the quarterback is
going to be for the franchise in five years. They
care about the here and the now and and being
given the best chance to win in the here and

(18:20):
the now, perform individually and ultimately get paid as a
result of that. And so you know, the gap between
what Joe Flacco was bringing to the table and what
Anthony Richardson was bringing to the table was so big
for those guys that the choice was really taken out
of Shane Steichen's hands. It's I got to give the
guys in this locker room a chance. You know, you're

(18:41):
Michael Pittman's, You're DeForest Buckner's, your Jonathan Taylor's. I got
to give them the best chance. There's no question that
Joe Flacco gives us the best chance. Again, if this
was close, you know, I think players that understand that,
you know, players players aren't aren't idiots. You know, like
if these two guys are, you know, on even playing
or close to one. You could definitely justify playing the
younger guy, and everybody would understand that this wasn't close.

Speaker 10 (19:04):
And so that's what that's about, you know, lot.

Speaker 9 (19:07):
I know a lot of people have made it about
like tapping out, and that's the low hanging fruit here.

Speaker 10 (19:11):
I don't think that had anything to do with it.

Speaker 9 (19:13):
Either doesn't help, of course, but you know, I just
talking to people that organization. You know, when they talk
about Anthony Richardson, good kid, but he's a little naive. Yeah,
comes from a small town, didn't play a lot in college.
You know, I get the sense he just didn't know
any better, and they hope that he can learn from that,
maybe learn a few things.

Speaker 10 (19:32):
Sitting on the bench the rest of the year and
watching Joe Flackoll.

Speaker 1 (19:35):
Play Okay, solid got run. I thought it was too early.
I don't think the Jets defense has ever been as
good since they fired him. I wouldn't have done it.
It's impulsive.

Speaker 10 (19:44):
Again.

Speaker 1 (19:45):
I thought he was the best coach in the room.
I look around the league right now and I don't
see anybody that's wobbling. I guess if Mike McCarthy got
shelled this weekend in Atlanta, but Jerry doesn't have a
history of doing that. Is there is there a be
out there if you looked at and thought, because I
love day Ball and when once they lost Andrew Thomas
at left tackle, that team can't move the ball, it's over.

(20:07):
But I don't blame day Ball mars giving them a
voted confidence. Is there one coach out there you look
at and you just you hear things you wonder if
they go on a two game skid, they could be
in trouble.

Speaker 10 (20:19):
No, I don't know that there's another mid season firing
coming like that.

Speaker 9 (20:22):
That's just not who the Giants are, you know, you know,
And I don't know that what it would really, what.

Speaker 10 (20:28):
Purpose it would serve.

Speaker 9 (20:29):
I think they want to, you know, give Brian Daball
and Joe Shane every chance, and you know, I think
the mayors want to stick with them. I think they're
being forthright when it comes to that. John is in
saying that, like the plan is to have those guys
back in twenty twenty five, like they cycle through, you know,
three two year coaches. That's not the Giants, you know,

(20:50):
two years with Pat Dermmer, two years with Ben mcaduu
before that, and then two years with Joe Judge. You know,
I think it's embarrassing for them to have gone through that,
and that's not they want to be ever, so I
think the Giants will give Brian Dave All at least
the rest this year, and tend to give them at
least next year too, and we'll see where that goes.

Speaker 10 (21:09):
I think with the Cowboys again, like I just ask
you what purpose it serves? You know, I know with
a solid.

Speaker 9 (21:16):
Thing, like when the problem the players had with it
wasn't so much related to his record or anything like that.
It was like, well, how does this help us? You know,
the strength of the team is the defense. You're taking
the architect of that defense out of the equation, You're
spreading the coordinator of that defense thin by making him
the head coach. And oh, by the way, you're also

(21:38):
undergoing some change on offense. So I think, like the
problem that the players in New York had with it
is like, what does this actually do to help us
win games?

Speaker 11 (21:47):
Now?

Speaker 10 (21:49):
And I don't know if.

Speaker 9 (21:50):
There's another team out there where you look at them
and say, yes, it would help if they fired their coach.

Speaker 10 (21:55):
It would help if they moved on. It would spark
the team if they did that.

Speaker 9 (21:59):
You know, part of that reality of having so many
teams that are close to.

Speaker 10 (22:03):
Or at five hundred.

Speaker 9 (22:04):
I believe there's only one team left to look this
up for me, call him, but maybe it's two. I
think it's two, right. The Panthers and the Titans are
the only two teams left with one win. Everybody else
has multiple wins, and the Chiefs and the Lions are
the only teams left without multiple losses. So you have
the entire league kind of in that pack there. I
don't know if there's anybody where you look at it

(22:26):
screaming like, yeah, they need to make a move.

Speaker 1 (22:28):
Yeah, Pookaua gonna play this week.

Speaker 9 (22:32):
I think he's gonna try. It doesn't sound like it's
the most serious thing in the world. It's concerning a course,
because it's the same need that he hurt previously. But
look like, going into you know, that Thursday night game
against the Vikings, they didn't intend to play them, and
lo and behold, he wound up not only being out
there but playing a really big role for them. So yeah,

(22:54):
i'd expect Pooka Nukula is going to push to play.
He's not going to practice today. They're gonna list him
as questionable, but I would expect that they're gonna that
that he's going to do everything in his power to
try to be able to play in maybe they wind
up having to protect and we'll see what happens on Sunday.

Speaker 1 (23:10):
Albert Brere is gonna be a restless, nice sleep. Drew
Holers playing for the Penn State and any Lions. This
guy lives in breeze. Ohio State football. You know what
I said this earlier, circling back, because I think that
game is as good as any college football. I mean,
you knew on the schedule, you kind of knew Texas, Georgia,
Ohio State, Oregon, Ohio State, Penn State. There were like
six games you knew were going to be great and

(23:31):
it's upon us. And I said, what drives Ohio State.
I'm from the outside, You're you're in the belly of
the beast here.

Speaker 3 (23:38):
I'm not.

Speaker 1 (23:39):
But what it would drive what drives you crazy, is
is that Clemson, Georgia, Michigan, three years, Oregon, they're right
there and in every game it's not like I mean,
we were talking about this earlier. The Yankees really didn't
compete with the Dodgers. They beat the Dodgers in the
Dodgers bullpen game, other than even Garrett Cole couldn't gets

(24:01):
So you can say, oh, it was a great series.

Speaker 3 (24:03):
Not really.

Speaker 1 (24:04):
The Dodgers had a better order, their bullpen was better,
they were managed better. With Ohio State always said it's
the only Northern SEC program. There's a delusion and an
intensity that not even Michigan or Notre Dame have. Do
you blame Ryan Day for the seemingly incurable vagaries the

(24:25):
program faces every year, little ones, but there's something there.

Speaker 10 (24:29):
Well, so I'm hopeful now.

Speaker 9 (24:31):
I think part of the curse for Ryan Day is
how quickly his predecessors won. Not just that they won,
but I mean Jim Tressel won a national title in
the year two, and that was coming off a pretty
mediocre stretch of Ohio State football, like the most mediocre
stretch of the last half century. Urban Meyer came in,

(24:52):
after all the NCAA stuff, went undefeated in his first year,
won a national title in his third year, and Ryan
Day was off to a a really fast start, you know,
consecutive undefeated regular seasons. His first two years, playoffs both years,
Big Ten titles, both years beat Michigan one of those years,
Michigan decided not to play the other year and then

(25:13):
made a national title game. And he hasn't broken through yet,
And so where I'm hopeful about this Colin. This is
sort of the Kirby Smart trajectory, isn't it.

Speaker 4 (25:24):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (25:24):
I think I think they both recruit.

Speaker 10 (25:26):
Is that fair?

Speaker 3 (25:27):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (25:28):
Then there's three great recruiting powers in college football right now,
four Bama, Georgia, Ohio State, and Texas. So I think
that's fair.

Speaker 3 (25:34):
Yeah, yeah, you.

Speaker 9 (25:37):
Know, yeah, I mean I just feel like it's like
Kirby got there by continuing. They were knocking on the door,
knocking on the door, knocking on the door. They finally
broke through, and you know, hopefully that's where we're at,
and you know, hopefully the effect of the last two
games lead to the door getting kicked down in Happy
Valley tomorrow.

Speaker 5 (25:56):
We'll see.

Speaker 3 (25:57):
Can't wait.

Speaker 1 (25:58):
It's on Fox, Big noon kickoff, good stuff, Albert as always,
Monday morning quarterback.

Speaker 3 (26:01):
Thanks man, all right, thanks con.

Speaker 1 (26:04):
Yeah, it's that That's the big college football game of
the weekend. Now, I don't think it's going to be
a Texas Georgia thing where the road team goes in
and crushes them. Drew Allen, Drew allierd is gonna play
the quarterback Penn State. Franklin.

Speaker 8 (26:15):
You know.

Speaker 1 (26:17):
Franklin, James Franklin's a great recruiter, and they always have
an NFL body or three in the defensive front. They're
a little light at wide receiver. They're not a high
scoring offense. There's a way Penn State has to play
the beat Ohio State. I think Ohio State could win
a shootout they almost did at Oregon. I think they
can win low scoring games. I think Ohio State's built
to win a lot of different ways, and I think

(26:39):
Penn State's built to beat Ohio State. Like one way.
It's got to be really low scoring. It's got to
be like twenty three to twenty. It is possible. But
I can't wait to watch j Mack with the news.

Speaker 5 (26:49):
No, no, turn on the news.

Speaker 8 (26:51):
This is the herd line news.

Speaker 4 (26:54):
All right, Let's start with the Seattle Seahawks kind of
reeling here, one in four in their last five, and
pressure is kind of getting to Gino Smith. He was
very upset at times during the Bills game last week.
He addressed his behavior yesterday with the media, I'm really.

Speaker 3 (27:10):
Not a great loser.

Speaker 5 (27:11):
It sucks.

Speaker 1 (27:12):
I hate it.

Speaker 11 (27:13):
I need to overall when I watch myself, hey man,
just continue to uplift the guys, and you know, if
I'm being honest, do a better job at you know,
times when we're down. Those are things that I'm constantly improving.
I'm not gonna say I'm perfect at it. I'm very
emotional when it comes to winning, when it comes to
doing the right thing, and so at times I let

(27:34):
my emotions show. Whether that's good or bad. I guess
that's a personal opinion.

Speaker 1 (27:40):
Yeah, I mean, I think we don't know if Mike
McDaniel's the coach is the coach yet.

Speaker 3 (27:47):
I don't think.

Speaker 1 (27:49):
I think they're just stuck in them out as a
franchise because they just have limitations of quarterback. I think
sometimes the story is better than the reality, and I
think the Geno Smith story is a great story. The
reality as the NFC. The last couple of years when
Geno was in Seattle, the NFC was down. The NFC
is not down anymore. The Lions, the Packers still the Niners,

(28:11):
the Commanders now like the Rams, I think this weekend
will put it to the Seahawks. I just think I
said this about the Cowboys. The last two years. The
NFC was there for the Picking and Seattle. In Dallas,
you know they get the playoffs, but they just now.
The NFC is to me, the high middle down is

(28:33):
better than the AFC. The top of the AFC is
better one, two, three, But like teams four through ten,
I think the NFC is better than the AFC. And
so that the last two years Dallas in Seattle, these
have been the moments you can win playoff game, and
you're not gonna do it now. You're paying back too
much to fortify the roster. And Geno's got limitations.

Speaker 4 (28:56):
The Gino Smith quote to address I'm not really a
great loser.

Speaker 2 (29:00):
I'm sure you've heard this before. Show me a good loser,
and I'll show you a loser.

Speaker 4 (29:04):
So I like Genosmith getting fired up, getting upset he
didn't play great because I was on Seattle last week.
He's got tripped over his lineman at the one yard line.
I mean, I want a terrible interception to start the
second hand.

Speaker 1 (29:13):
After Detroit and Atlanta when when Gino's comfortable he can
be he spins the ball. But I think it's a franchise.
It feels like, Okay, Seattle has been great twice in
my life, Matt Hasselbeck and his prime, Russell Wilson and
his prime, and they were really exciting when they had
Jim Zorn and Dave Craigan there Craig, So it's like
Seattle's history is and this is the history of the league.

(29:34):
If you get a B plus quarterbacker above and they're
in their prime, Gino's closer to a B minus and
he's out of his prime. So it's like, I feel like,
let's just let's just go get the quarterback. They should
have done it. I told you this last year. They
should have done it last year. And I like the
GM john Snyder. But now you're stuck because it is
a bad quarterback player.

Speaker 2 (29:54):
Draft a quarterback every year. Just take one or close
to it. Yeah, you got to do that.

Speaker 4 (29:59):
Next up, Colin, we have the breaking news here is
that Joel Embiid, who has yet to play for the
Sixers yet despite playing for Team USA this summer, he
is upset with the media, with the fans.

Speaker 2 (30:10):
He's out due to a knee.

Speaker 4 (30:11):
Injury, and uh, listen, he just spoke to the media recently.

Speaker 5 (30:14):
Here he is, I've hooken my face. Wise, I came
back early with the risk of losing my vision, have
hooking fingers. I still came back. Uh, so I'm not
gonna see her and feel like like you know when
I you know, when I you know, see people saying

(30:34):
he doesn't want to play. I've been way too much.
I've done way too much, you know, for this city
and you know, putting myself out race, you know, for
people to be saying. So I do think he's.

Speaker 1 (30:50):
He's yeah, well he's not available, and he hasn't delivered
in the playoffs, and he wasn't available the first two years.
The fans are right. I mean again, I will defend players,
but wasn't available to start his career. Has never been
good in the playoffs, although again social media great, funny guy,
very productive, He's the next Shack at some point, fan

(31:11):
like Giannis and the Bucks have been disappointing last two years.

Speaker 3 (31:14):
But he got a trophy.

Speaker 1 (31:15):
Yes, the Boston Celtics Tatum last year wasn't really expected.
They got a trophy, so you got to get a
Trophy or at least got to get you gotta win
a second round Eastern Conference playoff series. I mean, I'm sorry,
but the criticisms are just they're fair.

Speaker 4 (31:30):
I'm over here on load Management Island by myself with
you that I will defend it. However, it's tough to
defend Embade and his playoff history. Now, I will ask you,
and I was talking with a producer about this, like
him not winning a title kind of hurts, but I'm
just curious. I'm gonna throw a couple centers at you.
Historically who had a better career. Okay, we'll go a Keem,

(31:53):
Elijah Wanter, Joel embiid not even close a key.

Speaker 3 (31:57):
Go ask Shack what a Keem would like to he
will in shack.

Speaker 2 (32:00):
Yeah. Next up, Patrick Ewing. Ewing, really he did not
win a title.

Speaker 3 (32:07):
He was there most nights and he got him to
a final.

Speaker 2 (32:10):
Ewing's my guy. That's tough.

Speaker 1 (32:12):
Finally, David Robbinson Robinson, Oh boy, he don't even close.

Speaker 3 (32:16):
Oh wow, Okay, David.

Speaker 1 (32:18):
Robbins, Dwight Howard, and bead Oh.

Speaker 2 (32:24):
Dwight Howard was at the height of his powers. He
was a different kind of center because.

Speaker 1 (32:28):
He didn't shoot well, the basketball culture changed to a
three point shooting league, and.

Speaker 3 (32:33):
He got irrelevant fast. Yeah, that a lot of it
was just cultural.

Speaker 4 (32:37):
All right.

Speaker 2 (32:37):
Final story, co a Keem.

Speaker 3 (32:38):
I can't even believe you put that up.

Speaker 2 (32:40):
I wanted to just toss it out there.

Speaker 3 (32:41):
I would agree with maybe Nate Thurmond or something in
the seventies.

Speaker 4 (32:44):
Who all right.

Speaker 2 (32:45):
Final story is Lamar Jackson.

Speaker 4 (32:47):
So he missed Wednesday practice, missed Thursday practice, but he
and John Harbaugh said it was no big deal. Lamar
said the reason he didn't practice was that he was
just resting his right adding it's a long season, so
I guess it's a better idea for him to rest
during the week than like in the middle of a
game like Anthony Richardson, I need I need some.

Speaker 1 (33:08):
Dive off, same reason I take August off. I'm just
resting my body, resting.

Speaker 2 (33:11):
Your body and the voice.

Speaker 3 (33:13):
Yeah, Lamar, and I know you gott to rush your
bo You're going to.

Speaker 4 (33:15):
Try to take some one days off here during the
season and November December.

Speaker 1 (33:18):
How about this Wednesday after Election Day, Let's just take
that off.

Speaker 2 (33:22):
I'm sorry, I'm not feeling great. You getting cold as well?

Speaker 3 (33:27):
The Wednesday, post election cold.

Speaker 10 (33:29):
It's not a bad day, abyss.

Speaker 3 (33:31):
Jmack with the news.

Speaker 2 (33:33):
Well, that's the news, and thanks for stopping by.

Speaker 1 (33:36):
The Max got a six. He's been on fire. He's
been on like a six week heater.

Speaker 8 (33:41):
Next, be sure to catch live editions of The Herd
weekdays and noon eastern nin am Pacific on Fox Sports
Radio FS one and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 4 (33:51):
Don't miss your chance to win free cash prizes playing
Fox Super six Months or by draft kings. Go to
the Fox Sports app to make your picks. One of
the questions is which QB will throw for the most
passing yards?

Speaker 2 (34:04):
Colin We got Jordan Love looks like he's gonna play.
Jared Goff definitely playing.

Speaker 3 (34:09):
Dak Tashcock, Oh my.

Speaker 2 (34:11):
Gosh, Joe Burrow against the Raiders.

Speaker 1 (34:13):
Nope, Raiders play real defense and with intensity. Dak Prescott.
All right, we got picks now, and J Mack is.

Speaker 3 (34:21):
Ready to go.

Speaker 1 (34:22):
He's got a college football pick, He's got NFL picks.

Speaker 3 (34:25):
We like to call it. Tomorrow's headlines today?

Speaker 1 (34:30):
Is he for Dick Choustock tell us that Broncos tough
test of the Ravens.

Speaker 4 (34:34):
It is and I was wishy washy on this because
of the Lamar missing practice Wednesday and Thursday.

Speaker 2 (34:39):
He's a go now, says he's fine.

Speaker 4 (34:41):
The headline will be flock around and find out Boo
Nicks suffers cawtastrophe. Give me the Ravens here, big. I
know you're you're in on the Ravens as.

Speaker 2 (34:53):
Well, Colin. I did some math this morning.

Speaker 4 (34:55):
I don't love doing math early in the morning, but
I tallied the Broncos one record of the opponents they
beaten twelve and twenty nine. They're beating up on bottom feeders. Okay,
that's been their story of success this year. They went
from being double digit favorites last week against the Panthers,
double digit favorites, to almost double digit underdogs now against

(35:15):
the Ravens. I think that tells you that nobody really
believes in this team yet. Sure they've been good, but
have you looked at who they're playing next week? Kind
of a big divisional game Sean Payton and Boo Nicks
against Kansas City. I doubt they'll overlook the Ravens. Is
a big game, but I like Baltimore here in a
big spot. Now, I will caution people Lamar Jackson is
a favorite of seven or more.

Speaker 2 (35:35):
Two and eleven against the spread. Kind of a letdown
spot off Broncos.

Speaker 1 (35:38):
Come on just see Also, yeah, tomorrow's headlines today.

Speaker 3 (35:44):
I like the Commanders when they faced the Giants on Fox.
What say you use?

Speaker 4 (35:47):
I don't know if you said this was your favorite
pick of the week, but this is starting to become
one of my favorites as I look into it. The
headline will be Jaden the Ripper, Daniels slays g Men.

Speaker 2 (35:59):
Colin I forgot that they met earlier this season. Do
you remember that game?

Speaker 3 (36:02):
I don't.

Speaker 2 (36:03):
It was Jaden and.

Speaker 4 (36:03):
Daniels' second start, and Washington did not punk the football,
not once. The Giants could not stop them. They went
up and down the field seven for seven on field goals. However,
they were zero for six in the red zone, over
six on the red zones, kind of sort of like turnover.

Speaker 2 (36:17):
Look, that stuff's gonna flip.

Speaker 4 (36:18):
You get one or two touchdowns and that's a walk
away with victory for Washington and the opener. I'm just
telling you now that this is the most public side
according to some sports books.

Speaker 2 (36:27):
Everybody loves Washington.

Speaker 4 (36:28):
They went on a hail Mary Jaden Daniels, but the
great equalizer. I looked into dan Quinn against Daniel Jones. Now,
dan Quinn was in Dallas before this.

Speaker 2 (36:37):
He knows Daniel Jones well. In five meetings.

Speaker 4 (36:40):
Daniel Jones's top two hundred yards once against the dan
Quinn defense, he cannot do anything. Quinn mixes up coverages,
toggles between zone and man, and Daniel Jones just doesn't read.

Speaker 2 (36:50):
It quick enough. He's coming off a tough game against Pittsburgh.

Speaker 4 (36:53):
Right at the fumble and the pick, I wonder if
there's if this gets away from him scorely do we
see Drew Locke before garbage time?

Speaker 2 (37:01):
I like Washington with you.

Speaker 3 (37:02):
Not a bad call.

Speaker 1 (37:03):
Tomorrow's headlines today, I know what side you like here,
Chargers and the Browns.

Speaker 4 (37:08):
Yeah, increasingly becoming my favorite beat of the week. You
know you're a big Chargers guy, so I'm kind of
getting on board. The headline will be Browns get candy
stolen by Jim harr Boo.

Speaker 2 (37:20):
Jim Harbaugh and the Chargers go to Cleveland.

Speaker 4 (37:23):
And I don't want to say they're gonna run away
with this because they can't really get separation. They're not
a great offense. But Quentin Johnson back. Harbaugh just announced practice.
He's a go, and all signs are pointing toward the
other receiver. DJ Shark also returning. He's practiced this week.

Speaker 2 (37:37):
Colin.

Speaker 4 (37:37):
They're healthy, as healthy as they've been this season offensively
and defensively. You look at the Browns, how do they
sustain success after beating the rival Ravens Well, kind of
bad news, David and Joku doesn't know if he's gonna
go this week. He's off an ankle injury. He leads
him in yards per game as a receiver. Denzel Ward
he's back at practice today, but they don't know if
he's gonna go off a concussion.

Speaker 2 (37:57):
He's had like five or six in his career. Kind
of dyce.

Speaker 4 (38:00):
All signs are pointing to Hey, Cleveland just just took
down Baltimore. They got a bye next week. Jamis is
a raw, raw guy. I like the Chargers here a lot.
By the way, their run defense, which Brandon Staley remember
he couldn't fix it for like three years. Jim Marball
has them a top seven run defensive unit in the league.
Daniel Jeremiah's crediting Poona Ford, the big defensive tackle as
one of the instrumental guys, Brown Center, Pokick, Pochic. He

(38:24):
struggled this year with injuries. I like the Chargers. He
would not be surprised if this was like you look up,
it's twenty to three in the third quarter. Chargers in control.

Speaker 1 (38:32):
Tomorrow's headlines today Jag Jesse Eagles interesting.

Speaker 2 (38:37):
So are the Jag Sellers. They got off Cam Robinson.

Speaker 4 (38:40):
I'm seeing reports now that Brandon Shurff, who's injured, doesn't
sound like he's gonna go this week. We saw Houston
lose their guard last night. The headline will be no
bones about it. Jaggs, Doug own Grave. I think it's
over for Jacksonville. I don't like this team at all
in this spot. Travis Etn game time decision. He's kind
of sort of been phased out at running back. Tanks

(39:02):
Bigsby taken over. They got cluster injuries at receiver with
Gabe Davis, Brian Thomas, the young guy both banged up.
Christian Kirk out for the year. I know you don't
want to hear it, but Sirianni's Eagles. The schedule lines up.
We're starting to see Jalen Hurts reduce the turnovers. I
like the Eagles here convincingly. I don't feel good about
Doug Peterson and Jacksonville.

Speaker 1 (39:22):
Tomorrow's headlines today Lions at the Packers on Fox. This
is a beauty, love it.

Speaker 4 (39:30):
I like this game a lot, but it's just it's
difficult because it's the game of the week, right, and
you don't always want to get involved in that. The
lines are sharp, the headline will be silence from the
Lambeau Lions more neutralized. I know it's your favorite movie,
so we had to get that in there. I'm just curious,
how concerned are you that the Lions now are going outdoors.

Speaker 2 (39:53):
For the first time.

Speaker 1 (39:53):
I think it's something, and I think Goff is a
one hundred percent I think it's something.

Speaker 4 (39:58):
It just feels like the Packers in this spot, whether
it's Jordan Love or the backup quarterback, like, is Detroit
off balance a little bit? And I just want to
remind people Detroit's defense got shredded early by the Titans.
Once it was out of hand, they couldn't come back.
But this Lion's defense is not as great as we
make it out.

Speaker 1 (40:14):
Can You can ball control them a little, you can
run on them a little bit.

Speaker 4 (40:17):
Yeah, and I just wonder Josh Jacob's buck fifty on
the ground, Christian Watson back Dobbs.

Speaker 2 (40:24):
I like the Packers here to win out right.

Speaker 1 (40:26):
Finally, tomorrow's headlines today tomorrow's vinion Ohio State number four
at Penn State number three.

Speaker 2 (40:33):
We talked about this a little yesterday.

Speaker 4 (40:35):
James Franklin in Big Games has leaves a little something
to be desired. The headline from Happy Valley will be
Judgment Day. Franklin begs Boosters for forgiveness much maligned Ryan Day.
I think it's overblown. I share a little closer to
the story. But I like Ohio State a lot. Man,
this team is so complete. I think that Oregon game

(40:56):
kind of was a wake up call.

Speaker 1 (40:57):
Like Oregon's great is really really good and virtually unbeatable
at Ouptsin Stadium.

Speaker 4 (41:03):
And remember Penn State was getting dominated by your Trojans.
They needed a big comeback. And now here we are
a few weeks later. Is us even that good? So
I like Ohio State here by ten or more to
win in in Happy Valley?

Speaker 1 (41:16):
Yeah, I mean, I think you know there are certain
college teams Georgia, Texas, Bama not not as much to
BAMA this year, but I would say Georgia's Texas, Ohio
State that look the part. I think BAM and Oregon
are close, but I think Ohio State and I also
think to win a national championship. Nick Saban was good

(41:37):
about this. He sort of took the program from a
defensive program to a wide receiver quarterback program. Ohio State
can get out played, and because they're so electric on
the perimeter win games. I think Oregon's got that. I
think Texas has that. Ohio State doesn't have to play perfect.
Penn State I don't think can score enough, can't match
up with them on the perimeter. I like the buck

(41:59):
guys by about a time. Come with you all right,
j Mac, great stuff. We're back Monday.

Speaker 3 (42:05):
