You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:26):

Stumbling Bumbling Cowboys live in Los Angeles. It's The Herd

Thanks for making us part of your day. Jmac, I
had a winning week in Blazing five. You did well.

(00:46):
I imagine you have the Chargers a good pick for you.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
You know, not to toot your my own horn, but
eight and two in college on Saturday, four and one
in the content is my best weekend of gambling.

Speaker 4 (00:55):
This football says just a bangs. You know what the
strategy is.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
Don't stress over On Monday and Tuesday I was like
all in my head and this week I took it
a little easy and focused on Halloween.

Speaker 4 (01:05):
You know the Coba Kai outfit, which you liked.

Speaker 3 (01:07):
Yeah, sometimes you need to take your eyes away from
the games and get the clear head.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
I can't wait to do that with the election. I
can't wait to not care.

Speaker 4 (01:14):
What is that again?

Speaker 1 (01:17):
Here we go every Monday. Where Colin was right, where
Colin was wrong, and there's plenty of both where Colin
was right. You know I've said this before. If Matt
Stafford's the Rams quarterback and Sean mcvay's the coach, this
team will always figure out ways to be viable, even
in rebuilding years. It didn't matter that they had multiple
rookies playing on the offensive line, or Pooka got ejected,

(01:38):
or they couldn't run the ball, or they were on
the road and had a terrible first half. After Mahomes
and Andy Reid, there is not a quarterback head coach combo.
I have higher regard for it than Stafford and McVay.
That was a really gutty win on a Sunday where
there were a dozen reasons the Rams could have lost.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
Was raw well.

Speaker 1 (02:01):
I thought Dallas would miss the playoffs, and slightly regress,
I said they'll start regressing. I didn't think they'd become
a bottom three team, arguably in the league. Penalties, I
mean they're red zone offense thirty first, they're running back
room worst, their defense thirty first. I'm not sure what
Dallas does well, and I mean Dak got caught in

(02:23):
the sideline saying we suck lip readers. Congratulations. But I
thought they would be viable but just missed the playoffs.
They are, they'd be bad in the NFC South, Like
they're just bad. That's a bad football team. Where Colin
was right. Lamar Jackson for years, I've defended him as
a really good pocket quarterback. I didn't think he was

(02:45):
his first couple of years, but he's right now, first
player in league history with four games with a perfect
passer rating, and it doesn't really matter. I think he
forces linebackers to do things they don't have to do
most weeks. You can't cheat on him. Feels like you
have to play zone. You can't play manner will take off.
I don't know how good Denver's defense was. They've made

(03:06):
their mark against sort of average quarterbacks. But this goes
back to something I've been preaching for four years. Don't
get caught up in thinking he is a running quarterback
only because he was in the first couple of years.
Watch the games. It's more than capable from.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
The pocket where Colin was raw.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
You know, Dan Campbell, I've had my doubts on his
situational coaching. He's too emotional, But I'm wrong. He's a
success and I thought he coached yesterday with maturity and stability,
and that's a markup leadership. You know, in Philadelphia, Siriani
drives me nuts with all the risk taking. When you
have a better team and a better roster, there is
a way to coach. And I think Dan Campbell may

(03:46):
have had that goofy opening press conference, But when I
watch this football team, they execute, They don't make a
lot of mistakes. They lean into their best players. They
got a little pass happy in the first couple of
weeks of the season, but since then they've been one
of the best coach teams in the NFL. Where Colin
was right, I thought Dennis Allen would be the first
coach fired in the NFL this year. I think he's

(04:07):
an excellent coordinator, not a head coach. He was the
second coach let go Saints. This morning, the Saints out
gained the Panthers by one hundred and fifty yards. They
ran for one hundred and fifty yards, and they won
the turnover battle, and they lost. That is the first
time that has happened in two hundred and seventy six
NFL games. So they just find ways to lose. And again,
much like Dallas, I am not sure under Dennis Allen

(04:30):
what the Saints do well. It's one of the first
things we look for, even if you're struggling as a coach,
is there something you do well? And in New Orleans,
I can't pinpoint it where Colin was wrong. USC lost
again another road game. They had a lead. They're now
four and five on the season. Lincoln Riley last twenty
four games at USC twelve and twelve. Even his press

(04:51):
conferences now are kind of cringey. He has not recruited
southern California. We don't know if he can build the culture.
I do think he's upgraded the defensives, but they keep
losing the same way. The LA media is pretty pleasant,
to be honest. It doesn't have very sharp teeth. It's
not Philly or Boston. And now he said, no, you
can't cover my practice anymore. I don't know what's working.

(05:14):
I don't know what it is. I just think their
talent is mostly pedestrian now it is young. But even
as press conference after it's getting a little cringey.

Speaker 5 (05:25):
It's not like we're getting our ass kicked, you know.

Speaker 6 (05:27):
So it's not like I go back to the drawing boards, like, god,
we're just doing this terrible and people are just wearing
us out on this or that. I mean, like, it's
not it's not that I've told you guys this before.
It's like, oh yeah, I mean, I mean weeks we
got to say this. I understand, but like you go change,
you know, five six plays this season and then everybody's like,
oh my god, they're freaking unbelievable.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
Nobody would say that because they're not. They're just not
talented enough. Where Colin was right, I had said I
thought the Dodgers would had a historically great lineup and
would win a World Series. And I think they're even
greater than we thought. Otani was hurt in the World Series.
They had to move outfielders to the infield. They had
bullpen games against the Podres, Mets, and Yankees, and they

(06:07):
still dominated all three of them. Can you imagine if
this team was healthy. I've also defended for years Dave
Robbers for his patients and the ability to be able
to make all these stars work. This is a team
that likes each other. Otani and Freeman and Muncie and
Betts and Kersha and Buehler. The injuries, the tumult, the

(06:29):
constant moving players around from bench kick Hernandez to starting,
and yet they get along despite all the pressure. They
dominate the postseason. We were right on that.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
One where Colin was raw.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
I said a month ago, I thought the New York
Giants had the bones of a good football team. Now
they're kind of a pile of bones. They are zero
to five at home, two and seven BB gun offense,
thirty second ranked offense. Daniel Jones at half four for
six with zero yards passing. I think he's a tough
I'll say that he'll put his head down and run
over you. But it's and I like Brian Dabel. There

(07:05):
are parts of this team neighbors, Brian Dabel, Dexter, Lawrence
di Buto. There are parts of this team I like.
But I thought a couple of weeks ago, I'm like,
they're close they're close, They're not close.

Speaker 2 (07:17):
They're not a good team. Where Colin was right.

Speaker 1 (07:20):
Finally, I predicted Jannis would demand a trade at some
point in the season. A story last week confirmed it
that teams are circling the Bucks. Six games in, They're
already a mess. Brook Lopez aged very quickly. Chris Middleton
aged very quickly. Doc Rivers may go back to broadcasting.
Jannis and Dame combined for seventy five points in the

(07:41):
game this weekend, and they lost two years ago. This
team is the Celtics were getting better and younger. The
Bucks were getting older and slower. We warned a couple
of years ago, we said, they got to make a
big swing here. This just doesn't work. They're just they
can't defend. And I think Jannis, they won a title
they did with Kareem, go make a big swing. Miami's interested,

(08:03):
so are the Warriors. But this was really predictable. This
roster in an improving East with Orlando's good and Cleveland's
good and Indiana's good, and the Knicks are better, this
isn't gonna work that this right now is not a
playoff team. On a Monday, Colin right, Colin wrong, and
with that, we bring in Matt Hasselback, three Pro Bowls
for Seahawk trip to the Super Bowl eighteen years. So

(08:25):
it's interesting. I watched Philadelphia. I said, Philadelphia match the
only team in the league. They win, and I don't
feel great about it. They're a day trader and they're
getting They're in a role, they're a hot day trader.
It doesn't feel sustainable. What do you make of all
the risks and passing on points and what do you
make of it?

Speaker 7 (08:45):
Well, first of all, you sound like a Philly fan.
They win and you're not happy. I mean, doesn't that
sound exactly like that?

Speaker 1 (08:51):
Yes, it does. I admit that. Yes, I don't know.

Speaker 7 (08:54):
People are piling on Philly. I get it, you know,
But like I actually like Nick Sirianni for this, for
this team. I just I just think, really think that
when those wide receivers aren't healthy, they're a different team.
And that's a different quarterback. Jalen Hurts. I like him
a lot as a player. I think he's got a
you know, huge upside. I think he's steady, I think
he's his leadership style is awesome. But they think this

(09:16):
offense now kind of revolves around Saquon Barkley. Yeah, and
the offensive line isn't as dominant as that it's been
in the past, so they're finding their way. But listen,
they're going to be in it at the end. They'll
probably be a wild card team. And if that team
stays healthy and gets hot at the right time, everything
will be okay in Philly.

Speaker 1 (09:34):
So I was watching Sam Donald last night and it's
not a great college quarterback draft class. I think schd
or San Sanders is really good. But then it's it's
kind of dicey. And I watched Donald. They don't have
a run game, they're missing their superstar left tackle. Their
defense is okay personnel wise, and I'm watching Sam Donald
and I'm like, it's kind of I mean, he can

(09:56):
be a little reckless. But would you if you were
a team at he didn't have a quarterback, would you
go to college or would you go to Sam Donald?
What do you see?

Speaker 7 (10:05):
Listen, Sam Donald's a young player who's reinvented himself, kind
of reinvented his career. It had a really tough run,
you know, where was he the Jets Carolina? Then he
takes a step back to take two steps forward, goes
and learns under Kyle Shanahan and has made the most
of this opportunity. Now, listen, in that first half last night,
he's got to eliminate the head scratch or interceptions. But

(10:25):
he's playing good football. And whether he's the quarterback next
year the Minnesota Vikings or not, he's on audition for
the rest of the league, and like, I think he
could play himself into being the starter, but I could
also see him playing really well and just playing somewhere
else in Minnesota says, hey, we got JJ McCarthy. He's
our guy. And like I liken this a little bit
to San fran like they moved heaven and earth to

(10:46):
get Trey Lance as their guy. But you know what,
brock Perdy came in, played outstanding football and now they've
got one of the strongest quarterback rooms in the game.
And that could happen here too. So I think Sam
Donald's playing good football. That defense is really outstanding. We're
going to talk about Sam Donald all the time, but
that defense, how they shake basically what you like to

(11:06):
do offensively, is really impressive. Black Brian flore has done
an awesome job with that defense.

Speaker 1 (11:11):
Listen, you generally, I think well coached teams flex in
the first half, things can get squirrely, players can get hurt. Now,
that's not always the case. The Rams had a stinker
in the first half yesterday, a very good second half
in overtime. Not always, but generally, the Rams come out
and you kind of feel like, Okay, here's I can

(11:32):
see what the plan is. As a consumer, I can
see what they want to do. I've watched the Bears
the last couple of weekends. In the first half, I
don't even know. I don't even know what it is.
And I'm watching bo Nicks get better and Jayden Daniels
looks good, and I'm watching Sam Darnold's career be reborn,
and I'm watching Caleb Williams. And again I'm just a sportscaster.

(11:56):
Something's amiss, Like he feels unsteady. I thought this offensive
line was kind of good last year. It's regressed badly.
What are you seeing as somebody that played almost two decades?
The first half's Caleb Strow? Is it just Caleb?

Speaker 5 (12:13):
Maybe?

Speaker 7 (12:14):
Yeah, I don't know. A couple of weeks ago, I
was kind of critical of the Bears, and I just said,
I think it's gonna get rough for them, and you know,
Bears fans everywhere like wanted me dead, you know, basically,
like they were so angry. But no, listen, like why
you believe in those second half teams like the Matthew
Stafford coming out at halftime, Like the team believes in you.
There's an intangible leadership quality and a toughness about you

(12:36):
that they believe in. And I just think this is
a young quarterback who probably has a really bright future.
But the body language is just like it's at young
justin fields levels, Like the body like six sacks and
every one of them is like ah shucks, you know,
and like it's on the quarterback, like there's time to
get rid of the ball on some of these, or
it's third and ten because of the quarterback, it's fourth

(12:57):
and eleven. You know, like the these are the things
that are kind of you talk about as growing pains
for a young quarterback. So I just think expectations are
probably too high. I think it's awesome that he's playing.
I think it's awesome that he's getting the reps, But
to think that this is a contender in this division,
like I just I just don't see that. I don't
see that at all, and that's okay. I mean it's okay.
This was literally one of the worst teams in football

(13:20):
last year, so I think expectations are just too high.
But that body language, Like when I was when I
was playing, you would hear defensive coordinators every week say, hey,
we're gonna get BBL this week BBL, like they were
looking to get bad body language out of the opposing quarterback.
It's like a goal. They like literally have like boards
or signs on the wall where they'll say BBL like

(13:42):
that's a goal. And I think sometimes as a young
quarterback who's had success in college, you know, it could
be a little bit could be a little bit deflating
when you don't have that same success right out the gate.

Speaker 1 (13:52):
It's remarkable to me when you have a coach that
wins everywhere everywhere he goes, small college, big college, major college,
NFL San Francisco Chargers, and we almost it was almost
you knew what it was going to look like. You're like,
justin Herbert, they're going to bring down his attempts. They're
gonna make it a power football team. And I watched

(14:13):
the Chargers with the same guys as last year mostly.
I mean, they added a receiver, but they lost two receivers.
What is it with horrorball? I mean, Justin Herbert is
attempting the fewest passes of his career and I watched
them and I'm like, is it grit? Is it toughness?
Because this is exactly what Harbaugh did at Michigan overnight
from Brady Hoak, You're like, man, they're physical.

Speaker 4 (14:35):
I don't know, I does it?

Speaker 1 (14:36):
I mean, what do you see.

Speaker 7 (14:39):
Well, he's got a formula, he's got an identity and
it's proven. Like that's that's the big thing. And I'm
sure he sold it to Justin Herbert like, hey, listen,
your attempts are going to go down, but we're going
to make you a better quarterback. It doesn't mean we're
not going to get in shotgun and you're going to
throw you know, third and twenty one touchdowns. I mean
he had two touchdown passes yesterday on third down that
we're just like epic. I think you're showing them right
now like epic. But most of the time, a lot

(15:02):
of the time he's under center, hard play action, turning
your back to the defense, and that can be an
adjustment for guys Like I remember I went from a
Mike Holmgren drop back passing game to a different style
of like turn your back, heavy play action type stuff.
And I remember one time after a game, was talking
to Warren Moon actually in the in the in the
parking lot, and he's like, man, how are you doing it?
Like I hated that. I hated turning my back to

(15:23):
the defense. It's a big adjustment, you know, and you know,
we talked about it. But like when I see Justin Herbert,
I think this has been seamless. I think he's going
to be fine in this And I think the best
selling point that Jim Harbough probably has for Justin Herbert
is that, hey, our goal is for you to be
healthy at the end of the season, you know, and
like that that if we can have a healthy Justin
Herbert at the end of the season, that gives us

(15:45):
the best chance. And ultimately, you know, he was hired
to basically win this division. And who's in this division,
Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs, and what's the best way
to beat them? Keep Mahomes and company on the bench, ground, game,
ball control, all that stuff. So I think they've got
a chance of all the teams in that division. I
think that's the team that's got the chance to get
there and do that.

Speaker 1 (16:04):
Finally, Buffalo is Josh Allen's twelve and two against Miami,
And I mean you can you can say it's coaching
this and that it's Josh Allen. Was there ever a
matchup in your career eighteen years any of the teams
you played for where you just felt when you went
into a game, will win, we just beat this team.
You had those?

Speaker 7 (16:26):
Yeah, Listen, I've been on the wrong side of that too.
I remember early on in Seattle against the Greatest show
on Turf, it was like, man, we just can't stop
this offense. Like it just doesn't matter what happens. It's Marshall, Fuck,
it's Tory Holt, it's Isaac Bruce, it's you know whoever.
But like, yeah, I feel like when we were in Seattle,
we had that against Arizona, like Arizona they were playing
at Arizona State, just was like it almost checked it off,

(16:47):
like in our heads, like, oh, that's a win. When
I was in Green Bay, I felt like the Packers
had that mind control over Tampa over Detroit. Ironically, Steve
Young and the Niners had it over Green Bay, and
so I think that's a real thing. I got to
Indianapolis and Andrew luck was there, and t Y Hilton
had something on the Houston Texans, like the Houston Texans

(17:09):
could not stop the Colts if t Y Hilton was involved.
I mean, I was involved in a Thursday night game.
I basically, you know, got poisoned by Chipotle. Since forgiven them,
we've made amends, but it went from there to the
hospital bed and it was the t Y Hilton show,
and like it just I think that team just had
Like I think it's a real thing where the team said, oh,
here we go again. And I think that the Miami

(17:31):
Dolphins have a little bit of that with the Buffalo Bills.

Speaker 5 (17:33):
Yep.

Speaker 7 (17:33):
I think the New England Patriots have had that over
the New York Jets for years. I think it's a
real thing. Coaches will deny it as they should, players
will deny it as they should, but it's a real
thing until you get the monkey after back.

Speaker 1 (17:45):
Finally, what did the Lions prove going into a sloppy
mess outdoors and beating Green Bay.

Speaker 7 (17:55):
Well, not only not only are they the more physical
team when they play anybody. I think they're the more
mentally physically, sorry, mentally tough team. Like they're tough physically,
they're tough mentally. And I think Dan Campbell got out
in front of it. I loved how we did it. Hey,
we're the tougher team for anybody that's ever played for
the Packers or played in Green Bay. Here's something you

(18:15):
should know. In cold weather during the week, they don't
practice outside either. They've got this beautiful I'm talking gorgeous
indoor facility called the Don Hudson Center. They go inside.
When I was there, if it was below fifty five degrees,
we would practice inside. And yet when I was a
player on that team, I saw a team after team
come in and get intimidated by the elements, by the snow,

(18:36):
by the rain, like whatever. And it's just I think
it's just a mindset. And I think the Detroit Lions,
much like the Greatest Show on Turf that I mentioned earlier,
people would say, oh, they're a dome team. They can't
play outside because of why, because of who says Like,
it's just a mental thing, and I think people make
way too much out out of that. Ultimately, it's a

(18:57):
It's a big thing for the equipment managers helping out
keeping the balls dry, keeping the rain gear on the sideline,
making sure the guys are wearing the right cleats. But
other than that, it's really a mental thing to me.

Speaker 1 (19:08):
Pro Bowl, Quarterback, Super Bowl as well. Matt Hasselbeck absolutely
love that you're part of our show now in Monday's
Matt appreciate it, Bud, thank you, all right, thank you. Yeah,
it's interesting, he started. He said, coaches will never admit it,
but there are games Buffalo and Miami's a prime example
where I'm like, Buffalo's goin this game. Buffalo's just gonna

(19:28):
figure out how to win this game. And I've seen
that for years. For years, San Francisco had it over
the Rams. In McVeigh. It's probably one of the reasons
they Jettis and Jared Goff. It just felt like in
situations the Rams weren't quite gonna make the play and
Kyle Shanahan's Niners were. And now I think there's a
there's a chance they'll reverse that in.

Speaker 8 (19:48):
La one More Heard. The Herd streams twenty four hours
a day, seven days a week within the iHeartRadio app
Search Herd to listen live or on demand whenever you like.

Speaker 1 (19:59):
Jim Harbor, coach of the LA Chargers off of w
will join us about an hour from now. Jmack with
a news. Turn on the news.

Speaker 2 (20:13):
This is the herd Line newsright.

Speaker 3 (20:16):
Let's start with the best young quarterback in the NFL,
and that's Jaden Daniels. My goodness, the Commanders have now
seven wins this season.

Speaker 4 (20:23):
Seven. They've already eclipsed their season win.

Speaker 3 (20:26):
Total Colin Yep with a season sweep of the New
York Giants, and they are leading the NFC East. Daniels
threw for two hundred nine yards two touchdowns. He's got
the Commanders off to their best start since nineteen ninety six.
A pretty thorough beat down on the Giants. By the way,
did you see Daniel Jones's numbers at halftime? He was
four of six zero yard, zero passing yards. Brian Dable

(20:48):
basically said, I don't trust you at all.

Speaker 4 (20:50):
I don't want you throwing the ball. You're gonna lose
the game for us. Just a bizarre situation with the Giants,
who stink, but the Commanders. Can you credibly say that
the second best team in the NFC?

Speaker 1 (21:03):
I feel like again this is such a baby steps league.
I think they feel a little like Green Bay last year.
Really exciting and fun. I think reality Niners, Lions, Stafford McVeigh.

Speaker 4 (21:17):
They still got Stafford and McVeigh got some work to do.

Speaker 1 (21:19):
Still well, it's a very young team, but they are.
I just think Washington's gonna have a great regular season
and then you're gonna look up in January and go, Okay,
they it's got to be another step I just cause
I think I think Detroit's better. I think Detroit, San
Francisco and healthy is better if healthy. I also think
that the middle of the NFC, these Minnesota's Rams, Arizona.

(21:42):
The middle of the NFC is pretty pretty good.

Speaker 3 (21:46):
It's yes, but Washington is very good right now with
Jane Daniels And I got to ask you about Cliff
king Free.

Speaker 4 (21:52):
I've heard all these people, Oh no, he's just better
as an OC better in.

Speaker 1 (21:54):
So how do we know that?

Speaker 4 (21:56):
Why shouldn't he get a second chance at being a
head coat?

Speaker 1 (21:59):
How do you know he want that? It's a great lifestyle.
I think he's been a college and a pro coach.
It didn't work. He makes three and a half million dollars,
not married nobly.

Speaker 4 (22:09):
And he got Arizona to the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (22:11):
Come on, no, I know that, but they look better
now than they did with him. And I love Kingsbury.
But not everybody wants to be I just read a
story yesterday online about not everybody wants to climb the
corporate ladder. Like he has thirty million in the bank,
good looking singles, doesn't have to deal with a nonsense
of being a head coach. He's got really good leader.

(22:32):
He can go. I mean, I know this when he
went to USC. I know this because I heard this
inside the program. He said, I don't want to recruit.
I don't want to deal with anything. I just want
to coach Caleb Willie. He didn't want to do anything else, okay,
and I think he loved it. I think he was like,
I want to be in OC. I don't want to
have to deal with the media or cap the CAP.

(22:52):
I don't want to deal with discipline. He didn't want
to deal with any of that stuff.

Speaker 2 (22:56):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (22:56):
So let's say the Chicago Bears get rid of Eberflus's say, hey,
one guy knows Caleb as well as anybody.

Speaker 4 (23:03):
Cliff, we want you to come in an interview interview.

Speaker 1 (23:06):
Nope, I think Bears are cheap. I wouldn't do it.
Bad ownership, front office, Bears are cheap. I wouldn't do it.

Speaker 3 (23:12):
So maybe there's a Spagnolo type career where Frags is
just the best defensive coordinator in.

Speaker 1 (23:17):
The league, and you say Cliff Kingsbury has a ten
year run like Josh McDaniels gets her ring or two.
He's the best offensive coordinator in the sport for a decade.
Nothing wrong with that. It's a good life. Not everybody
wants to climb that ladder, and when they do and
get burned, they really don't want to do it.

Speaker 3 (23:34):
But he got burned to gut, Like you said, like
thirty million dollars, right, wasn't the payout massive.

Speaker 1 (23:39):
For He'll never have to work. He's fine.

Speaker 3 (23:42):
Let's go to the LA Chargers, Jim Harbaugh's team. Man,
they dominated the Browns. I mean, listen, Cleveland on the
back end was an embarrassment. Secondary had so many broken plays.
Look at these wide open touchdowns. I mean that's like
ten yards open for guys. Herbert was dealing. Dobbins was
awesome on the ground. I mean, Colin, this this Chargers team,

(24:03):
they look like a playoff team. I still think I'd
like to see one more weapon offense.

Speaker 1 (24:07):
I think if they're healthy, they're fine. Hayden Hurst, a
tight end Dobbins. I think if they're healthy, their offense
is fine. I don't think it's great, but it's good enough.
When Quentin Johnston, who now looks like he can play,
is he great?

Speaker 9 (24:21):
No?

Speaker 1 (24:22):
Does he look like a first round pick which he was? No,
But he can play and he can burn people. So
I think Palmer, Quinton Johnson, Lad McConkey, Hayden Hurst, JK. Dobbins,
Herbert good offensive tackles that take good enough roster offensively
to win a playoffs Wait.

Speaker 4 (24:38):
On the offensive tackles thing.

Speaker 3 (24:39):
Rashaun Slater, who is one of the better ones in
the league, got abused by Miles Games John Miles.

Speaker 4 (24:45):
Garrett does take down a lot of guys.

Speaker 1 (24:46):
That's a bad way. Sacks six No, I mean, listen,
Schlater had a bad Sunday.

Speaker 9 (24:51):
It was rough.

Speaker 3 (24:52):
It happens, happens to the best of us. You know,
I rarely have bad Mondays. But nevertheless, Josh Palmer returned.
I thought he had a really good game game. Chargers
do you think they make a move with the deadline
to add to the offense or I don't know, maybe
a defensive player.

Speaker 1 (25:04):
I don't. If they did, it would be an ancillary,
smaller move. It would be like, hey, can we bring
in a number three receiver.

Speaker 4 (25:13):
Adam Adam Feeling? Does that name do anything?

Speaker 3 (25:15):
You know?

Speaker 4 (25:15):
Like apparently Steelers have the inside track.

Speaker 1 (25:17):
On him, but I mean, like, yeah, bring in Adam Feeling.
Could Adam Feeling in a playoff game make a couple
big catches?

Speaker 5 (25:24):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (25:24):
Absolutely, that's what I think they could add. A guy
that's at the end of his career, you know, would
match up. I can see them adding depth to the
wide receiver room, but I don't. Quentin Johnson, but every
other weekend does something and it's like, Okay, he's not
a bust, he can play.

Speaker 4 (25:41):
I'll mention him again because you like him. Jakobe Myers, Oh,
I think.

Speaker 1 (25:45):
I don't think the Raiders would do it. I think
he's so underrated. Yeah, and that's a thing seems that
you'd have to give up like a second or a
third round pick. I think, wouldn't you. I think he's
really good.

Speaker 4 (25:56):
I like the charge of the again at their peak.

Speaker 3 (25:58):
This feels like a tough team you don't really want
to play because Harball is so good in herbert As.
A potential final story is the said Sadati Bengals nice
w over the Raiders forty one four.

Speaker 4 (26:09):
Boy, the Raiders are just such a joke.

Speaker 3 (26:12):
Joe Burrow had his second five touchdown game of the
year to get the Bengals to four and five, but
Burrow he was in no mood to celebrate afterwards.

Speaker 9 (26:21):
I'm not just gonna ignore the bad and well on
the great that we did today. I don't think that's
a recipe for improvement. I don't think that's a recipe
for getting better. Knowing what we're gonna have to do
to get back into this. You know, one win isn't
gonna make or break our season. So now I'm gonna

(26:45):
strive for perfection every every day and every game. So
until until that happens, was there to be happy bout?

Speaker 1 (26:55):
I just don't think Defensively, they moved off some players
because they're cheap, and you can see why Raider shouldn't
score twenty four points in anybody just fired the offensive.

Speaker 4 (27:04):
It was ten to ten late first half. I'm like
Jesus not good for the Bengals. Then they opened it up.
I don't want to be body language guy, but this.

Speaker 3 (27:13):
Is like the third week in a row where Burrow
has not cracked a smile postgame.

Speaker 1 (27:17):
Oh, I think Burrow is over the organization. I think
Burrow is It's like Giannis and Milwaukee. I think I've
taken you as far as I can take. This cheap
ownership and this organization. I mean, Cincinnati's just not going
to spend the money some teams San Francisco, Rams Eagles. No,
I think it does.

Speaker 4 (27:36):
There were two couple minutes from the super Bowl.

Speaker 1 (27:38):
I mean, I think he looks at Baltimore going out
and getting Derrick Henry and his team let go of
Joe Mixon. I think he looks at his team not
paying Jamar Chase and the Ravens getting Deontae Johnson. I
think he looks in his own division and sees the
Ravens every moment they can add talent, they do, and
his franchise is cheap and moves off guys a year

(28:01):
before they show.

Speaker 3 (28:01):
All signs points of the Steelers going after feeling they
apparently were in for a receiver who was injured. I'm
spacing on his name right now, but like everybody's trying
to do something and the Bengals aren't, and it's just
like and again, I don't think.

Speaker 4 (28:13):
This is stick from Burrow.

Speaker 1 (28:14):
Like, no, I think he's he.

Speaker 3 (28:16):
Doesn't seem happy, just based on the stuff you're seeing.

Speaker 1 (28:19):
He deserves to have an ownership group that is not
a family, that is big boy, that is willing to
I mean, I just think I feel bad for people,
these athletes, and you know, like Kevin Durant comes in
the league and the Sonics leave and go to Oklahoma City.
It's like, wait, wait, wait, you know, I feel bad
for pro athletes.

Speaker 3 (28:40):
So, you know, the Caleb Williams, as you alluded to,
pointed fingers at the Bear's front office and the coaching staff. Yeah,
Joe Burrow is not doing any of that. Should he.
He's been to a Super Bowl.

Speaker 1 (28:54):
He's a Midwest kid, so he probably does, like you know,
being around family. But I I think it's very obvious.
I don't think he's hiding it. He is frustrated with
the organization.

Speaker 3 (29:05):
The last note, Jermaine Burton, remember the kid who flashed
in the preseason.

Speaker 4 (29:09):
He was a healthy scratch this weekend.

Speaker 3 (29:11):
Yeah, and there's video of him kind of like dancing
on the sideline and Burrow looking up and kind of
rolling his eyes.

Speaker 4 (29:17):
Some Bengals fans. There's just some stuff going on there.

Speaker 3 (29:20):
I don't know what's happening in that locker room, but
it doesn't seem.

Speaker 4 (29:23):
Like it seems like the vibes from that Super Bowl run.

Speaker 1 (29:26):
They're all gone, all gone, all gone. Jmack with the news, Well.

Speaker 8 (29:32):
That's the news, and thanks for stopping by The Herd
Line News.

Speaker 1 (29:36):
Ed Werder checks in with the Dallas Cowboys. Knows them well.
Some thoughts on a team that's falling apart. Jaylab has
the best audio products in the game. They're ready to
take care of you this football season, whether you're traveling
to watch your favorite team or just streaming a game
at home. Find the Blue Box at Walmart, Target, best Buy,

(29:56):
or go to JLab dot com blue Box. I love
their products.

Speaker 2 (30:01):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
in neon eastern non am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (30:10):
I didn't think Dallas. I thought they would start a
slow progression. I thought it was fairly predictable. You could
see it. I could see it. It was a bad running
back room. They're kind of going to get Zeke again.
He felt kind of washed in New England. And they
didn't make a trade at the trade deadline or in
the off season. They didn't you know, the draft didn't
have any you know guys that would spark the offense.

(30:31):
I said before the season, they're a cdee Lamb injury
away from really struggling to move the ball Dak, you know,
since the big injury doesn't feel quite as mobile. I
didn't think they'd be this bad. I'm not sure what
they do well. And I thought yesterday was really problematic
because they weren't overwhelmed. They beat themselves. They out rushed Atlanta,

(30:53):
out gained Atlanta. They were so bad circumstantial moments. Edwarder,
who's covered the NIEL since the mid eighties, knows the
Cowboys back and forth joining me live. I mean, it's funny.
It's one thing when they get bulldozed by the Ravens,
You're like, they don't have a players. Yesterday, it's like,

(31:15):
I think they match up. Okay, it felt really disheartening
for me. How did it feel being there? And covering
this team yesterday.

Speaker 10 (31:25):
Well, I think they would have had a chance to
win the game if they had been healthy on defense.
You have to keep in mind that they're playing without
Micah Parsons, without DeMarcus Lawrence. They haven't had Deron Bland,
who set the NFL record for pick six's on the
field at all last year. And you know, certainly Mike
McCarthy is going to be blamed in large measure for

(31:47):
the failure of the offense, as he should be. I mean,
the very thing that probably saved him from being fired
at the end of last year, the fact that he
was the offensive play caller, is a thing that exposes
of now. I think there was a belief that, having
led the NFL in scoring two of the last three years,
that despite all the injuries on the defensive side of
the ball, that the offense could you know, outscore opponents

(32:09):
or at least make it competitive. And they've failed miserably
in that regard. And then you know, there were some obviously,
I think what you're referring to, some of the game
management blunders with the penalties and the fake punt and
all of those sorts of things that would further jeopardize
McCarthy's aspirations for returning for another season.

Speaker 1 (32:30):
I mean, I look at the Lions roster, or the
Ravens roster, or the Niners roster. I see talented teams
like Green Bay and Arizona Minnesota, and then I look
at the Cowboys and I'm like, they just don't have
enough good players, even if healthy, I don't feel like
they stack up. Is there a chance they would just
scrap the season trade deadline move off somebody and just

(32:53):
I think they need multiple early picks. What they're paying
Dak see thee Lamb, maybe Micah. Is there a chance
they would just punt here before the trade deadline?

Speaker 5 (33:06):
Well, Jerry said just the opposite.

Speaker 10 (33:07):
After they lost in Atlanta yesterday, he said they might
make a couple of moves this week to bring in talent,
which seems like a bad investment. At three and five, they're,
you know, dangerously close to having the worst record.

Speaker 5 (33:20):
In the NFC.

Speaker 10 (33:21):
Only the Giants of the Saints, who just fired Dennis
Allen as their head coach a better have a worse
record than the Cowboys. They actually have the eleventh overall
pick in the draft at the moment, and they've got
a bunch of tough.

Speaker 5 (33:34):
Games coming up. I mean, you would think that you could.

Speaker 10 (33:37):
Say, hey, well, four of the next five games are
at home, and the Cowboys as recently as last year
were invincible at home. This year they're wigless at home,
and they've suffered some of the most embarrassing moments there.
They lost and give up forty four points to the
Saints the last game Dennis Allen will win as a
head coach of the New Orleans Saints, and you know,
they gave up forty seven points and lost to the
Lions and the worst home loss of the Jerry Jones era.

(33:59):
So I don't think it makes sense to make another
investment with this coaching staff and in this roster.

Speaker 5 (34:05):
But that's what Jerry Jones threatened to do yesterday.

Speaker 1 (34:08):
You know, it's the two coaches, Bill Parcells and Jimmy
Johnson that had power and both got frustrated and left.
Have the Cowboys reached a point where I mean, Jerry
can look at this, He's no dummy and go, you know,
I'm getting older. Maybe it's time to get a Belichick
and surrender some of that power? Is it in Jerry

(34:32):
at this point?

Speaker 5 (34:34):
If you're asking me.

Speaker 10 (34:34):
If Jerry Jones is willing to step down as a
general manager of this franchise, I say he will never
do that.

Speaker 5 (34:43):
I would argue that one of.

Speaker 10 (34:44):
The reasons he bought the franchise in nineteen eighty nine
was so that he could appoint himself general manager if
he so chose, and that he would remain in that
capacity regardless of performance.

Speaker 5 (34:57):
So I see no way that he.

Speaker 10 (34:58):
Would be willing to under his ultimate title of general manager.
I think he works with Will McLay and Stephen Jones
and the scouting department pretty well, but he's not a
traditional general manager in terms of he's spending you know,
saturdays out of college games evaluating, you know, perspective talent,
and he doesn't claim to be doing that. But I

(35:19):
don't see anyway Jerry would relinquish power to anyone, not
even Bill Belichick. I think Belichick would fit here for
a lot of reasons. I think he would be able
to offer Belichick the big stage that the Cowboys you know,
constantly play on, offer him the opportunity with Dak Prescott
as his quarterback, to you know, potentially quickly become the

(35:39):
winningest coach in NFL history. Surpassing Don Shula, and from
Jerry's point of view, it would demonstrate his ability to
work with somebody he considers maybe the greatest coach in football.
But I do not think that Jerry Jones would give
up being the general manager to accommodate Bill.

Speaker 1 (35:56):
Dak Prescott is being reported by Ian Rappaport the injuries
worse than initially fared. Uh, he will, it's it's it's
not looking like a short term injury. Cooper Rush is
the team's backup. Your reaction to that, what does that
mean for a Cowboy fan?

Speaker 10 (36:15):
Well, the last I heard, the Cowboys were still evaluating
the Dak Prescott MRI and the seriousness of his hamstring injury.
My understanding is the shoulder sprain that Ceedee Lamb suffered
is exactly what they thought, and it's not He could
be back as soon as this week against the Eagles.
You know, I mean, Cooper Rush went four and one

(36:35):
a couple of years ago replacing Dak Prescott, and we
saw him execute the offense at a pretty high level yesterday,
and he.

Speaker 5 (36:40):
Does what he's doing.

Speaker 10 (36:41):
Yeah, So I wouldn't be concerned about that.

Speaker 5 (36:44):
I'd be concerned about some of the other.

Speaker 10 (36:45):
Things that you mentioned earlier, which is the lack of
talent around him. I mean, it's not This roster is
not what it was offensively the last time Cooper Rush.

Speaker 5 (36:54):
Was starting football games.

Speaker 10 (36:55):
I think they badly miscalculated the effect of having two
rookies starting out on the offensive line for the.

Speaker 5 (37:00):
Time since twenty eleven. And we saw that yesterday.

Speaker 10 (37:03):
I mean, the Falcons are the worst pass rushing team
in football.

Speaker 5 (37:06):
They came into the game with six sacks.

Speaker 10 (37:07):
Yeah, and Mike McCartney's game plan emphasized quick passes, get
it out of Dack's hand, avoid pressure, and they still
gave up three sacks, including back to back sacks on
their second possession of the game. So that and the
fact that they don't have great depth at wide receiver.

Speaker 5 (37:21):
Although maybe Brandon Cooks comes back this week.

Speaker 10 (37:24):
Off I are but I do think he executes the
offense well. He'll give him a chance to win, especially
if they get some more defensive players back on that
side of the ball.

Speaker 2 (37:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (37:33):
Wow. A couple of minutes left, there was a story
by the Athletic on the facility and the tours and
how it's just kind of distracting and Jerry's more into
promotion than winning. Did you how did that land in Dallas?

Speaker 2 (37:45):
That story?

Speaker 10 (37:47):
Well, I think Jerry's grateful for the publicity, as he
usually is, because I think from what I've observed out
there since that story was published, the Cowboys' tour business
has increased rather dramatically, you know. I mean, I think
they went out and talked to a bunch of players
that are somewhat irrelevant and aren't even with the franchise anymore.

(38:08):
I mean to talk to Calvin Joseph, who was involved
in a drive by shooting, and he's talking about that
these tours are an inconvenience and a distraction. I don't
think any of the significant players on this team believe
that to be the case. They may not always love it,
Ceedee Lamb Indicator. He doesn't really enjoy having the public
in close contact while he's trying to get himself ready

(38:31):
for a game and go through the business. Require Dak
Prescott thought was laughable. You know that you're going to
go play in front of one hundred thousand people, and
yet twenty people in a tour group who can't really
interact with you is a distraction that takes you away
from being able to focus on the task to hand.
So I don't really think that's a relevant thing, and
I think business.

Speaker 5 (38:50):
Is now booming.

Speaker 1 (38:52):
Ed Werder covered the Cowboys since the early eighties. Good
to see again at Warder NFL Doomsday podcast with their
Buddy Mats. Mostly great scene, you get ed.

Speaker 5 (39:02):
You your Collin, Thanks for the invite. Enjoy talking to you.

Speaker 1 (39:04):
You bet Edwarder does a great job. Yeah, just not
not a fun team to watch. I'll tell you that.
So Dak, according to Tom Pellisero and Ian Rappaport, Dax
Hamstring's worse than initially perceived. He'll miss multiple weeks. Cooper Rush?

(39:24):
Do you think there's a huge gap between Dak Prescott
and Cooper Rush. Seriously, I'm the guy who said I
would keep Cooper rushing.

Speaker 4 (39:31):
I remember you laughed at.

Speaker 3 (39:32):
Me and instead of paying Dak it doesn't Colin, do
you trust Cooper Rush going into this gauntlet the next
three weeks? Versus Philadelphia versus Houston at Washington, those are
three really strong playoff teams against a reeling Cowboys of
the backup quarterback, it's over.

Speaker 1 (39:53):
How about Ed saying when I asked him about would
he go get a Bellichick and relinquish some power. Ed's like,
absolutely not no.

Speaker 4 (40:01):
If I'm Belichick, I wout that Eagles job.

Speaker 1 (40:03):
You know what, have the Cowboys become the Raiders? When
Al Davis got really old, it was just like Raider
fans were sort of hostage to old rigid Al Davis.
I feel like Cowboy fans are a little hostage.

Speaker 3 (40:16):
You think Ben Johnson's taking this job that's a step
down from what.

Speaker 1 (40:21):
He has in Detroit. It'd be one thing if if
Dak was on a rookie contract. That makes it interesting.
The roster between CD and Dak. You're trapped. You have
to hit next year on like six draft picks.

Speaker 4 (40:32):
Washington has more talent if you compare the rosters.

Speaker 3 (40:34):
Oh yes, I mean Dallas has very high end talent
in Lamb and Parsons, but more talent for sure, Washington
has more. Washington's running backs, Brian Robinson, Austin Eckler, they're
better than anything Dallas has.

Speaker 1 (40:45):
Oh Biden, not even close, Jim Harball, they're on a roll.
Those Chargers kind of predictab well, we thought they'd be better,
and they are, and they're asking less of Justin Herbert.
He's throwing the least amount of passes per game, and.

Speaker 2 (41:02):
They're going to buy.

Speaker 4 (41:03):
This week against Tennessee, I think
