Speaker 1 (00:01):
The volume.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Don't Foot Bowl championship.
Speaker 3 (00:12):
That should always be the expectation. All right, man Ax,
you go ahead. Welcome back to the Richard Sherman Podcast,
presented by our friends and partners over at Brightling. Got
us shining. We appreciate you. We had the Kansas City
Chiefs versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a thriller of a game,
but again the Kansas City Chiefs find a way to
(00:33):
get it done. At the last second. Of course, you
just see it inevitability, slowly but surely. You thought maybe
twenty seven seconds was enough time for Patch Mahomes, but no,
They took a toe tee, drove the ball down the field,
scored on the first drive, never allowed the Tampa Bay
Buccaneers to touch the football. Mitchell, They're still undefeated.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
They are.
Speaker 4 (00:55):
This is vintage Mahomes and this is vintage Travis Kelcey too,
who had a monster game. I mean, it doesn't matter
what the Chiefs are throwing, what adversity they've faced. I mean,
we've seen him injury riddled at the wide receiver position.
They just bring in d Hop, you know, fresh from
the Tennessee Titans, and he looks like the d hop
(01:15):
of old Richard. We've talked about it time and time again,
and so someone knocks him off this mountain top. They're
the best team in the NFL, and they certainly looked
like it, you know, late in this game today. But
the Tampa Bay Buccaneers gave him a dog fight. You know,
this is a team that was the uber desperate going
in looking to get a win of their own, obviously
have dealing with wide receiver injuries left and right and center,
(01:39):
and they were a lot more competitive than I think
the general public thought they would be, Richard. How much
did Tampa Bay surprise you in this game? They surprised
me a ton Baker Mayfield played really well. Odenkate Otton
continues to build his case for maybe a Pro Bowl
this year, just they have to lean on him more.
With Mike Evan and Chris god went out, He's he's
(02:01):
stepped up and increased his output. Sterling Shepard four catch
forty eight yards really came up crucial on that last
fourth fourth quarter drive at the end of the game
to get them into scoring position. Vidavea sparked the thing
off with two sacks early in this game. They got
to Patrick Mahomes. They bothered him.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
You know, I thought they had, you know, a case.
Early on, they were playing him well, and then he
started to figure it out. He started to find holes
in the defense. Throughout the fourth quarter, connected with Travis
Kelcey a number of times, fourteen catch for one hundred yards,
no touchdowns, but DeAndre Hopkins, they found their rhythm in
the red zone. A quick slant touchdown, another touchdown on
(02:41):
a double follow in the back of the end zone,
following Travis Kelcey on a drive. We're oute it just
with the they he does so many things that make
it hard. Even when he gets banged up and he
hurts himself, he just comes back and continues to be
relentless pushing the ball down the field. And then at
the end, it's like nobody's garden. Travis. I don't know
if he's running real routes turning around and catching the ball,
but they just continue to do it each and every
(03:04):
week and nobody, nobody can stop, and nobody has figured
it out.
Speaker 4 (03:08):
Yeah they can't. And then there's Kareem Hunt going off
for over one hundred yards. I mean, what's it gonna
take to stop this? Kansas City Chiefs team because right now, again,
this was not their best day of football. The first
half was rather ugly in fact, but they come out
with a huge win. Here, what's it going to take
to finally knock them off this month.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
Somebody's gonna have to execute for four quarters and nobody's
been able to do it. You know, I've you got
to give Tampa Bay a lot of credit for just
being in this game with the injuries that they had
to the best receivers of the National Football League out
and you know, I'm not sure when Chris, I mean,
Mike Evans is coming back, but he's a huge part
of what they were able to do. And they were
still able to put up twenty four points on a
(03:50):
very very good Kansas City Chiefs defense. But I just
don't know, you know, Kareem Hunt is an underrated piece
of this offense. He's been god saying after they had
the injury, He's continued to bully and just enforce his
will throughout each and every ball game like he's wearing
defenses down. He had twenty seven carries. There are very
(04:12):
few backs that get more than twenty carries these days.
To take twenty seven carries and continue to run the
ball well, get the game winning touchdown in overtime, and
it just seemed like they could not stop him. It
was like very few times he got stopped that the
line of scrimmage are behind. It always took two or
three guys to bring him down, and when they didn't,
he's getting five yards to pop. So there's not enough
(04:34):
positives you can say about that. Another Kansas City win.
Every week it seems like we're saying it was an
ugly win. It was an ugly win. It was an
ugly win. But they're eight to o. They have not
lost the game this season, and every single time, even
when it looks like they're down and out, you just
know something's gonna go in their favor and they're gonna
figure it out and score points and get the win.
And that's what they've done the entire season. The Sunday
(04:56):
night game was a lot more interesting than I thought
it was gonna be. The big news of the day, obviously,
was Anthony Richardson being benched for Joe Flacco. We talked
about it on this show. It had to happen. You know,
there's a lot of mixed reviews about it, and people saying, oh,
it's a wrong decision. I don't know what you guys
expect people to do in a locker room, and they've
never obviously been in the locker room. Everything is in
(05:19):
quarterback center. You owe it to fifty two other guys
to put a real product out there that can win games.
You can't just tell us, hey, this guy's completing forty
percent of his passes. We know we got somebody on
the bench that could probably move the offense and give
us some juice, but we're gonna keep playing him because
we want to develop him and we want the future
to be brighter, but we don't really care about what's
(05:42):
happening currently. Nobody's doing that, and that's why he got benched.
Because you couldn't keep justifying it to the rest of
the locker room. These guys are working hard, fighting their
butts off every single week to win ball games, and
you're telling me the quarterback who's not playing good enough
and just needs more time to develop. You know, he
just didn't play it the position long enough. He didn't
get enough reps in college. He doesn't have enough reps
(06:02):
under his belt, and so you have to see somebody
else do it. Sometimes sometimes you need to see somebody
else do the job you're trying to do so that
you know how to do it, how to carry yourself,
how to manage games, how to game plan within games,
how to game plan throughout the week, how to practice.
And sometimes you're not prepared to just run, you know,
be out the front of the line yourself and be
(06:23):
able to execute the offense. But I mean, I thought
the Indianapolis Colts defense played really well. They forced Sam
Donald into three turnovers in the first half. They were
flying around Nick Crossier Franklin, who's having an incredible year.
I think he's among the league leaders and tackles. You
got to give him a lot of credit. They were
getting to Sam Donald, they were flustering them, they were
(06:46):
doing everything they could. I'm sure Joe Flakaugh wanted some
of them passes back. He threw the interception, he lost
the fumble. But I thought they gave themselves a good
chance to win this game. But Sam Donald overcame those
four sacks and those three turnovers through three touchdowns in
the second half to lead his team to victory. That's
the resilience this Minnesota Vikings team has showed all season.
(07:09):
And this is a win they had to have in
a very tight NFC North to stay with your Honolulu
blue wearing Detroit Lions and make sure that it's gonna
come down to the wire, probably the last game of
the season to decide this division, no question.
Speaker 4 (07:26):
I mean there was a rather stale first half for him,
and then the second half it was totally different story.
Sam Darnold had his way and the Vikings that they
played like they did in that second half, they look
like they have all season. And look who they got
next weekend, your buddy Trevor Lawrence, the human Owl if
you want to call on that, Trevor Lawrence, because the
(07:52):
Vikings are going to take a w there. Richard, I'll
be shocked that they lost. But we got some other
stuff to talk about here. We got some major news
on the forefront here on a Monday night.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
We just call it win.
Speaker 4 (08:04):
That Dak Prescott is expected to miss several weeks.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
He was injured.
Speaker 4 (08:10):
You know, in this weekend's game, people thought it wasn't
going to be that big of a deal, and Mike
McCarthy mentioned he might be out just this week against
the Eagles. But now we got reports that Adam Schefter says,
in severity, is a lot worse than initially expected. You know,
at a time when Dallas is finally getting their defensive
playmakers back and Micah Parson and Deron Bland, this happens.
(08:33):
What's your outlook on this, Richard? I know Cooper Rush
has had success, but this team's been riding an emotional
rollercoaster this entire season.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
How bad does this one hurt?
Speaker 3 (08:45):
It hurts really bad. And I know Dek has a
lot of haters out there that are jumping for joy
and not rightfully so, because you can do a lot
worse than Deck. And you know, I know Cooper Rush
had the success in to twenty twenty two, but people forget,
they don't. They never scored more than twenty five points
in those games. He did fine, but they had a
better defense, and the defense was playing better than this
(09:06):
defense is playing currently. They got more turnovers. Dan Quinn
was at the Helm, you had a lot of things
going for you that weren't the same. Your run game
was better, your offensive line was better. So for people
to think, oh, he's just Cooper Rush is gonna come
in here and he's gonna be four and one, and
then dak We're gonna be fine. I wouldn't say, I
wouldn't expect that. This isn't the same offensive line the
(09:30):
Dallas Cowboys and Dallas Cowboys fans are used to. You're
used to having one of the best offensive lines in football.
This is not that. And Cooper Rush, you do not
have a run game you like you've had in the past.
So do not expect the same things that he's done
in the past. He might have won games in the past.
I expect him to struggle a bit early on. If
he plays well, congratulations to him. You proved me wrong,
(09:53):
but I highly doubt it.
Speaker 4 (09:55):

(11:41):
know you got to be pumped about this. One word
on the street is, as long as there's no red flags,
CMC is going to play this Sunday against the Bucks.
Have you heard any news? I know you got your
ear to the ground over there.
Speaker 3 (11:54):
Yeah, I mean I heard it from the horse's mouth.
He feels really good, and he felt like he could
have probably played last week, but they wanted to be
overly cautious and just give him more weeks of practice
and more time to really work that thing out and
feel comfortable and feel confident. And he does nothing's like
game reps. And until he gets out there in a
game and is able to cut and get the adrenaline
(12:15):
going and feel himself throughout a ball game, he's still
gonna have to knock the rust off just in game.
You know, you know, people, football is a really fast game,
a really violent game. Very few people can come in
and just say, hey, I'm putting on pads and I'm
gonna be the player I was when I was Offensive
Player of the Year first game into the season. Everybody
else is nine games in. They've got their hits, they
(12:37):
got their soreness, they got the speed of the game.
They're in rhythm. He has to find a way to
get in rhythm. But I think it, you know, all
signs point to him playing and likely probably playing a
significant role in this game.
Speaker 2 (12:49):
Well we'll see.
Speaker 4 (12:50):
I mean, like you said, if they're going to bring
him back, they might as well give him a healthy
dose of touches. And lord knows, when CMC gets the
ball in his hands, that offense is is a new
cheat code, right, I mean, it unlocks an entire new
dynamic for them.
Speaker 3 (13:04):
What are your.
Speaker 4 (13:05):
Expectations for the team moving forward with him back? I mean,
do you think the division is theirs now that he's healthy?
Speaker 1 (13:14):
Ish?
Speaker 3 (13:15):
Well, the division isn't anybody's, you know what I mean.
If I could predict that, Mitchell, I'd gone to Vegas
and bet a whole lot of money on it. It's
just such an unpredictable season. They're a really talented team.
What they should be doing is one thing. What they
actually do will be a whole other thing. You know,
what I could say, what you know, on paper it
should be and it should be a lot of success.
(13:36):
But I've been wrong on paper and off paper before.
So you hope for the best for him. You just
hope that he goes out there and he's healthy and
he's given his best, you know, his best effort, and
he's able to play up to the his abilities. And
I think it'll work out for the San Francisco forty
nine ers and at least getting to the playoffs. And
you know, if they get into the playoffs, they got
a shot. I think anytime they get into the playoffs
(13:57):
they have a chance to make some noise and make roun.
Speaker 4 (14:01):
Let's go down to New Orleans. I mean, we saw
a wild weekend down there. Michael Thomas was live tweeting,
you know, talking to fans about their thoughts about Derek
Carr and then it all culminates with Dennis Allen getting
the boot officially fired this morning, Richard.
Speaker 2 (14:16):
What went wrong?
Speaker 4 (14:17):
I mean this team they started off hot this season,
they looked like they were going to be really competitive
and then a string of losses it just took over
this team.
Speaker 2 (14:27):
What went wrong here for the Saints?
Speaker 3 (14:30):
Well, it's it's just a lot of things, you know, injuries,
you know, age, just lack of tackling, lack of execution,
and it's happened to him a number of years. And
I think, you know, this is just a straw that
broke the camel's back. You know, they started to and
oh and then just kind of you know, withered away
throughout the season and just not had great season, not
finished the season's great, and it would look like the
(14:53):
same old store. You know, start off two and O
looked really good offensively, defensively, they're making plays, and then slowly, surely,
you know, it goes away. They lose some close games,
they get blown out a few times, and you're back
in the same position where you've lost seven straight and
then you lose to a division opponent who really isn't
built to win right now, they're not built to win
any games. They had lost Andy Dalton, so they had
(15:15):
to go back to Bryce Young and he's able to
beat you into twenty two to twenty three ball game.
You know, it's just enough enough, and I think they
need a shark fresh on a lot of different places.
I think, you know, this is just the beginning of
them cleaning house a bit in New Orleans and trying
to you know, refresh this roster and refresh this this
(15:36):
coaching staff and and try to you know, get back
to their winning ways.
Speaker 4 (15:40):
Well, you know what's frustrating when Front of the Program
Cam Jordan issues a public apology on social media after
the game, and then I gotta ask, I mean, what's
your thoughts here with Michael Thomas.
Speaker 2 (15:51):
He goes on a rant.
Speaker 4 (15:52):
You know, you gotta believe he's frustrated that he's not
playing right now, that he's not on a team, But
that Chris Olive throw from Derek Carr, he hung him
out to dry. I mean, obviously there's no room in
the game for something like this, but emotions boil over sometimes.
What are your thoughts on this whole Michael Thomas twitter rant?
Speaker 3 (16:14):
Well, I don't really understand it, you know, I don't
understand the dynamics of what's going on, what went on
and what transpired New Orleans. Clearly there was some you know,
a lot going on behind the scenes. He hadn't played
a lot, you know, with Derek Carr, and he didn't
play a lot last season, and he's been injured for
a number of season. I think that's why he's still
at home now and a team hasn't picked him up.
(16:35):
He's just been beat up. And I'm not sure, you know,
if his foot is still unhealthy, or it's a bad knee,
or you know, it could be a number of things.
But I just don't know. I don't know how I
feel about you know, you going around New Orleans. You know,
you know, bad mouth in the quarterback. I don't know
who that benefits, you know, And sure, if you do
it in the off season, maybe you do it as
a joke or something funny, or you know what I mean,
(16:57):
to get some some publicity. But I don't even know
if this is get like followers or or you know
what I mean. You you you're not selling anything or
you're not trying to trying to get clicks for something
you know, or work. But you know, clearly he's frustrated
with the state of the team and uh his lack
of opportunity, and you know, the perceived dis disconnect or
(17:21):
discord between he and Chris o'lave, and I just I
don't know. I don't think you know, it was unfortunate incident.
What happened to Chris o'lave. You know, obviously, I don't
think Derek's trying to intentionally harm anybody. Was a bad ball.
But quarterbacks throw but bat balls all the time. I've
already said many times that I think quarterbacks should be
(17:41):
fine for balls like that. You you always find defenders
for doing their job when you're throwing guys into their
coverage and you know, you got to you got to
make play, You got to dislodge them from the ball,
or at least attempt to. But I don't know. I
think he's entitled to do whatever he wants to do,
to say whatever he wants to say. He played some
great years for that franchise, put up a lot of
(18:02):
great numbers for that team. So if he wants to
go out there in bad mouth the quarterback, more power
to him.
Speaker 4 (18:08):
Let's talk a little bit about Saquon Barkley. I mean,
we brought it up yesterday on the podcast, and this
guy is just an absolute freaking nature. Everyone knew he
was an uber athlete, but to look at him now
when he's in this free flowing offense with the Philadelphia Eagles,
it's a thing of beauty. He's got one hundred and
fifty seven carries for nine hundred and twenty five yards
(18:28):
on the season, six touchdowns, a couple receiving touchdowns as well,
and Micah Parsons is now ripping on the New York Giants.
He says on his podcast, the Giants did not appreciate him,
and now the rest of the league is facing the
consequences of the giants stupidity. Players come and players go.
(18:49):
The team logo is always going to be what fans
inevitably rooted for in the end. I mean, you've seen it,
But how do you feel about fans burning Saquon's jersey
in front of Matt Life over the weekend and just
fueling this fire for Saquon?
Speaker 3 (19:06):
I agree, I agree with him. I mean, you know
it's idiotic. It's it's idiotic. I mean, fans burning jerseys
in general is the stupidest thing in the world to me.
I mean, you paid so much money to get this
jersey and now you're burning it like the guy abandoned
your team, or he did something to your family. Like
the guy wanted it with all his might to stay
with the team. The team said we don't want you.
(19:28):
Other teams said they wanted him, and the fans are
you know, mad at him? You know me, be mad
at the organization. Go go go burn your season tickets
or something and don't come to the game. Stop buying
season tickets and make your point. But don't be mad
at the players. You know, fans only understand that it's
a business from one side. They understand it's a business
when players are getting cut or traded or moved on
(19:48):
from or oh, man, you're not playing up to your contract,
so I get it, we should cut you. It's just
a business. But when players do what's best for them,
or when they're forced to move on and go somewhere
else and play for another team, then the fans don't
understand it's a business. They're like, oh, you're you're going
to that team out of Spike. No, I'm going I'm
making the best business move for me in my family
and my career. And Saquan made the best business move
(20:12):
and it's shown on the football field. He's having one
of his best seasons ever. He looks like a fantastic
running back, like an all Pro, and fans are sitting
there like he shouldn't have gone to the Eagles, like
I don't for a team and a team to say
I don't want you. I'm not thinking about that team
when I make my next decision. Y'all have lost John
Damn minds, and y'all y'all need to think about that
(20:32):
in your own lives. Hey, we got fired from a job.
I'm gonna think about that job when I go get
another job. I don't want to offend my old job,
even though they just fired me and they didn't want
me anymore and they didn't want to give me a raise.
And this other job who's their rival, wants to give
me a raise and wants to treat me right, wants
to wants to use me in the best possible ways
and highlight my talent. And I'm supposed to say no, no,
(20:56):
the job that fired me, they didn't like you, guys,
So I'm gonna go somewhere else that that probably won't
treat me as well, and I won't shine as well,
and I won't do as well because of the respect
I have for the organization that just fired me. Like,
do you do you see how ridiculous that is. It's
pretty ridiculous. So you know Michael Parsons saying it, I mean,
he's not wrong with what he's saying, I'm sure the
(21:17):
Giants fans are sitting there like you're not playing. How
are you the one saying this? But he gets to
do that. He has a podcasts, he.
Speaker 4 (21:24):
Does, he does, and listen, you gotta look at it,
like you said, you're you're an individual talking with obvious
experience and going through something similar to this, Richard, and
you gotta look at it as simple as simple facts.
I don't know if there's a better situation in terms
of just pick a player put him in a spot
than Saquan is. In terms of true fit with the
(21:44):
Philadelphia Eagles, he's he's he's.
Speaker 2 (21:48):
Not new to this league.
Speaker 4 (21:49):
He knows exactly what's going on, and he saw, hey,
I can line up in the backfield with Jalen Hurts
and have AJ Brown and Devontae Smith to work with
as well. HiT's the perfect in Philly. It makes all
the sense in the world. It sucks for the Giants
fans that he went to with division foe, but like
you said, they had their opportunity to sign them, they
(22:09):
chose against it.
Speaker 3 (22:11):
Guess what. Guess what, you don't want to see him
in another uniform, then sign him. And if you don't
sign him, then get ready to see him in another
uniform and don't be mad at which one he puts
on because you didn't want him. And when I saw, look,
this is what what ended it for me, and just
arguing with fans about burning jersey. When I saw New
England fans burning Tom Brady's jersey, I said, oh, this
(22:33):
this world has lost its damn mind. Like if you
burning that jersey, then nobody say nobody in the damn
league is safe because you burning Tom Brady's jersey after
everything he did for New England, y'all have lost your
damn mines. And if you think I'm lying, google burning
Tom Brady's jersey and I guarantee you you find it.
Like that's how ridiculous these fans are, no matter how
(22:56):
much you do for a franchise, no matter if you
brought him six rings like Tom did took them to
ten Super Bowls. When they get rid of you and
they say toime is up and it's time for you
to go on, then you're they're burning your jersey and
not appreciating what you did. And obviously the fans cheered
when he came back to the stadium to Jillett and
(23:17):
you know they retired as jersey to the whole ceremony.
But in the initial reaction they should have been framing
a jersey. Mitchell, they you don't burn that jersey. You
know how dumb that looks like, no matter what you feel,
twelve Tom Brady New England Patriots jersey, Like that's historic,
that's that's the goat jersey and so it but that's
(23:38):
that's something that needs to stop. Fans stop burning damn jerseys.
Stop buying him if you're gonna burn him, like, just
just stop buying them, but just right on the shirt
or something exactly exactly.
Speaker 4 (23:51):
H Richard, I want to talk a little bit about
my Detroit Lyons here. We talked about him a little
bit yesterday. But speaking of dumb comments, Elston Jenkins from
the Green Bay Packers had a little tagline this morning,
the team that executed one not the better team. What
are your thoughts on that? Because I called straight up
(24:12):
bs on that.
Speaker 3 (24:15):
Or what what I mean what Eventually I I had
to I had to find it, you know, burn time
Brady jersey so that people can see that because it
was so stupid. But what and and I think, you know,
Elgend Jenkins is a is a good player, and he
(24:37):
played in multiple positions for the Green Bay Just stop
stop it, stop it, stop it. This team just went
to the NFC championship game. They're seven and one four
reason they're the best team in your division. And and
I think Minnesota is the second best team, and so
I think Green Bay's the third. So I don't know
how you can say that you guys lost to Minnesota.
You just lost to Detroit, Like when when are you you? What?
(25:00):
Have you been the best team? The better team? Like,
I don't know, I don't know how, And I don't
even think that's a call out. I just don't think
it's true. And I don't even think he believes that,
And I don't think his teammates believe or maybe they do,
because sometimes you get when you're when you're in football,
you get you believe things that that you know that
aren't always true, because that's how you have to be
in the full National Football League. But I don't know.
(25:22):
I think Detroit was the better team and they won.
Speaker 4 (25:26):
Right, So let's move on to the buy or sell segment.
We got we got some good ones here. Let's stick
with the Detroit Lions. I'm gonna ask you simply, you
buy or sell my my statements. Let's start with the Lions.
The Detroit Lions will be the number one seed in
the NFC. Are you buying or selling that?
Speaker 1 (25:45):
M mm hmmmm.
Speaker 2 (25:56):
It's an easy answer, rich.
Speaker 3 (25:58):
I can buy admtch But it's close. It's really close,
because one of those NFC East teams can can sneak
in you at the same record. You know, I think
both teams. I think they get a couple l somewhere
down the line. They're gonna find a couple of losses.
And but I'll buy that. I'll buy that. They're playing
really good football right now.
Speaker 2 (26:20):
All right now.
Speaker 4 (26:21):
Obviously, with CMC coming back, Jordan Mason may or may
not be out of a job. But that being said,
you know, he obviously showed that he can be a
starting running back in this league. It is my belief Richard,
that he will find a new starting role somewhere next year.
Are you buying or selling Jordan Mason as a starting
(26:45):
running back in this league next season?
Speaker 3 (26:47):
I can buy that. But the league is so weird,
especially about running backs. You know, they'll they'll see a
guy run and be having the season that he's having,
I mean, or having a season Derrick Henry's having. And
then Derrick Henry was a free agent and nobody was
really checking for him like that, And so then you
got GMS afterwards like maybe we should have took a
second look at Derek Henry, like what are we talking?
(27:08):
Take a second look at him. He was having a
Hall of Fame career and he had it, Like what
are we doing? And then you let him go to Baltimore.
But yeah, I think he'll have an opportunity. I think
a team will will allow him to compete for the
starting job. I don't know if somebody's gonna give it
to him out right, and I don't know if he's
totally out of a job right now. I think he'll
still get some carries. I think, you know, they'll trust
(27:30):
him more than they did last season, even with CMC.
Maybe you see some pony with two running backs in
at times and even putting more pressure on the defense
and more creativity from Cayl Shna.
Speaker 4 (27:43):
Taking it to Jacksonville, Trevor Lawrence, we already talked about him,
but you see the disaster of the season. The Jacksonville
Jaguars are on right now. It's only a matter of
time before Doug Peterson falls victim to this code firing
that is going on. Jacksonville will fire Doug Peterson by
(28:06):
the end of the season.
Speaker 3 (28:08):
By your self, I'll buy it because that's just what
the fans are calling for. That's what everybody's calling for.
They likely will lose to Minnesota and they'll fall to
two and eight. You know, it's hard not to fire
the coach that's two and eight. But it's funny how
these records go. And you know, they give quarterbacks credit
(28:29):
for wins, and you say, when quarterbacks win or when
they get to the playoffs, they're like, man, that quarterback
out of their team to the playoffs, he did so great.
But then when they lose games, and they lose they
only win two of their last sixteen games, then they're like,
why are all the losses and wins on the quarterback.
It's like, well, you gave him credit for taking you
to the playoffs when it wasn't just him taking you
(28:51):
to the playoffs. There's a lot of factors. Defense leading
the league in turnovers and things of that nature. But
then when it goes the other way, you say, that's
not on the quarterback, it's on the coach, or it's
on the defense, and the defense isn't playing great. But
the last game, they didn't play bad. They played good
enough and gave you a touchdown. But of course you
throw an interception to lose the game. That's kind of
(29:13):
on the quarterback. And so you know you can fire
Doug Peterson, but then the excuse is just continue to
mount for this team because then you bring in another coach.
I don't think Ben Johnson takes this job. I know
everybody's like Ben Johnson, Ben Johnson, Ben Jhonson, Ben Johnson, don't.
I don't know if he takes the Dallas job. I
don't think he takes the Jacksonville job. I definitely don't
think he takes a New Orleans job. You know, I
(29:34):
don't know where he goes. But you know, I know
they're gonna be feeling like they can just get Ben
Johnson type, and they have weapons on offense, they have
a lot of things, and of course they think he
can fix you know, Trevor Lawrence, and he can get
the most out of him. But then they're gonna be
if they don't win again, they're gonna just be calling
to fire him, and nobody ever wants to just accept
that maybe the guy isn't the guy you know, and
(29:57):
you're gonna be handicapped because he's gonna cost you fifty
five million, and so back to buyersel I'll buy that
because they gotta blame somebody. And for all the gamers
out there, get ready because Call of Duty is back.

Speaker 4 (31:25):
Let's talk about the Bears. This is a team that
got out to a hot start this season. Everyone was like, Okay,
maybe you know they're four and two, maybe they're for real,
and then they suffer back to back losses, one devastating
loss that we talked about last week with the hail
Mary Richard. Their schedules very tough the rest of the way,
(31:46):
and there's already a lot of discussion in house. I mean,
I got a lot of Chicago Bear friends that are
in my network, and it doesn't seem that I got
a lot of folks are happy. Matt Eberflus will not
be the coach the Chicago Bears next season by or Sell.
Speaker 3 (32:05):
I can buy that. I can buy that because they
were they were thinking about getting rid of him last year.
It was all this conversation whether they get rid of
him or Justin Fields and and YadA, YadA YadA. Will
they want a new coach with Caleb Williams, a new
offensive system, a new team. I think everybody, you know,
you're gonna have to That defense is playing really well.
(32:28):
They're they're doing what they're supposed to do when they
have majority of this season. Offensively, it's just too inconsistent
from a young quarterback. And you expect the growing pains,
ups and downs from a young quarterback. That's what you're
gonna get. But you got to solidify that offensive line
at some point or another. And I know they're like, hey,
we've used some draft picks on it, but you need
quality over quantity. You need quality players at the offensive line,
(32:51):
and you need death because players get hurt all the time.
So yeah, I think that they will probably want to
start over, you know. I mean, it's they got a
tough schedule coming down a stretch. Uh. If they can
somehow make the playoffs, I think that saves his job.
You know, that's the only way that they can save
him is making the playoffs. But if they don't, I
(33:13):
think they start anew.
Speaker 4 (33:15):
As much as i'd hate to see if Ben Johnson
would be a lethal fit with the Chicago Bears and
their Pluto rep weapons. We've talked enough about coaches that
are probably gonna get fired and may not be here
next year with the team. Let's talk about somebody that
maybe with the team next year as a head coach.
Neon Dion Prime time Dion Sanders coach Prime will be
(33:38):
an NFL head coach next season by or so.
Speaker 3 (33:44):
I'll sell that because just because Prime said it multiple
times that he's not going to do it, but I
want to buy it because I know that he can
say one thing and something can be convinced. You know,
there are some very persuasive owners out there that would
go and they have eat pocketbooks that are also very persuasive.
And you know, his sons will be gone, you know,
(34:06):
no longer in Colorado. He's obviously adamantly been adamant about
him staying at Colorado at once his sons are done.
He wants to build something special. They're having a really
good season right now. I think they're ranked twenty first
in the nation, have a chance to really if they
can win the rest of their games this season, might
have a chance to sneak into the playoffs, which would
(34:27):
be really incredible just for how far they've come. You know,
they're already going to a bowl game and they're just
building on top of that. But I don't think I'll
say no, I'll say we're gonna sell that, even though
I want to buy.
Speaker 2 (34:39):
I would love to see it. I would love to
see it.
Speaker 4 (34:42):
Well, Richard, we got another game to talk about here.
You're going to be going to Baltimore. This is it's
time for our TNF preview presented by Prime Video. The
Bengals are going on the road against the Baltimore Ravens.
This is gonna be a huge divisional matchup. Baltimore is
favored by six points going to this game. Joe Burrow
already say get your f and bodies right, get your
(35:04):
minds right. It's a big one on Thursday. Richard, what
are you looking for in this game? It's got you
gotta be pumped to be in the house for this one.
Speaker 3 (35:14):
Yeah, I'm really excited. You know, last year we you know,
unfortunately Joe Burrow got hurt in the game that we had,
same exact game. He hurt his thumb and was out
for the remainder of the season, so it wasn't the
game who wanted to be. But of course this game,
you know, the first game was a shootout forty one
to thirty eight. This one, of course, will be a defensive,
(35:36):
a defensive game on Thursday night with not a lot
of scoring or something like that. Watch they're gonna run
Derrick Henry a ton. Joe Burrow is playing coming off
a five touchdown performance, so of course he throws for
one in our game or something. Watch. Yeah, this is
a division game that that Baltimore has to win again.
They they they're six and three, but they've used their
(35:58):
their get out of jail free cards already. They're mulligans
of sorts on losing games of the Browns and the Raiders.
They cannot lose anymore than these kind of games to
teams that aren't as talented as they are, aren't as good,
and divisional games are always tough. They're at home, they're
six point favorites. I think they win this game, but
(36:20):
of course every time I pick a team to win,
they lose. So that's the way my days been going.
But I think Lamar Jackson again is having an MVP season,
even better season, you know, on pace to throw thirty
eight touchdowns and only four interceptions, which would be a
really massive season. We talked about Derrick Henry and his
MVP candidacy. Only two other backs with a thousand yards
(36:42):
through nine games and ten touchdowns, So I just think
that's too much for the Bengals. Their defense has played
well over the last four games, but they didn't play
well against the Ravens last time, and I don't know
what they could have done to fix it. Maybe Trey
Hendrickson and Hubbard are able to get home and cause
chaos for Lamar Jackson, but Lamar the game just looks
(37:04):
too easy for him right now.
Speaker 4 (37:06):
Well that's this week's TNF preview, presented by Prime Video.
Make sure you guys tune in to watch the Bengals
take on the Ravens this Thursday. Rich will be on
desk at seven pm Eastern with all the folks over there.
I know you're going to have a lot of fun there,
rich Let's take it to my final favorite personal segment.
(37:26):
I was really really excited seeing the Kansas City Chiefs
about to lose because I thought, internally, man, this might
actually motivate Richard to put the Honolulu blue and silver
atop this. You know, the number one seedon is power ranks.
I have feeling I'm going to be waiting another week
for that. Rich Where do we stack them up this
(37:47):
week with the Richard Sherman power ranks, Well, there's not
a lot.
Speaker 3 (37:51):
Of movement between one and two.
Speaker 2 (37:52):
Mitchell.
Speaker 3 (37:53):
One is still to Kansasity Chiefs. They did not lose
and they have not lost. There eight no one. I
give your Detroit Lions too. I'll move the Buffalo Bills
into three. They played looked really good this week. They
looked really good against the Seahawks the week before. After that,
I I it's it's it's a toss up right now
(38:15):
between Baltimore and the Washington Commanders. For me again, the
Washington Commanders just they just keep they just they are
a fun team and I enjoy them. But Lamar Jackson
looked really good this week, and so did Derrick Henry.
They look good every week. So that's where it's tough.
You know, there's a hint of me wanting to throw
the Chargers in there, but every time I do that,
you know it doesn't go back. Great. We'll go Baltimore
(38:40):
Washington for for now. With with with the Chargers knocking
on the door and waiting for me to answer.
Speaker 4 (38:47):
I respect it, and I'm telling you though, rich we
got a doozy of a Sunday night game with the
Lions playing the Texans. This just might be another opportunity
to prove to you that a one lost team still
might be worthy of the number one seed.
Speaker 3 (39:03):
Mitchell, Mitchell, They're gonna have to It would have to
be decisive, Okay, it have to be really decisive, Mitchell.
If you blow the Houston Texans out, it you may
have an opportunity. But then you need the Kansas City
Chief not to blow anybody out. You know, another type
game overtime win, because if they blow them out, then.
Speaker 2 (39:21):
It's even there you go, there, you go.
Speaker 4 (39:24):
Hey, This officially concludes Week nine, Richard, I will let
you sign us off.
Speaker 3 (39:29):
Well, thank you guys again for joining us every single
week with the Richard Sherman Podcast. I got me and
my guy mitche Eisenstein. We have a lot of fun
