(00:22):
listening to Fox Sports Radio. And with that, let's bring
on in studio. Love having him. Jordan Schultz, NFL Insiders
on Speak today at five eastern on FS one is Oha,
is my man. Great to see your brother. So I
want to talk about you know, Caleb Williams. As I
said there, he's got more hundred passer ratings than Mahomes
(00:43):
and more yards per game than Kyler and Herbert. The
coaching search, are they looking Jordan offense? Are they looking
verbel defense? Toughness? Where is the radar here?
Speaker 2 (00:54):
So if you think about Kayleb Williams this year, he's
overcome fired head coach, fired offensive coordinator, debacle, game situations.
I start to think about the Bears and I think,
why not go offense and invest the way we should
have six months ago? Remember, not only did Jim Harbaugh
want that job but as I reported six months ago,
Kevin Warren squashed it. He basically said, Jim Harbaugh, you
(01:18):
will not be here. Our relationship is gonna prevent that. Okay,
So they ended up going with Shane Waldron as the
offensive coordinator and they kept Matt Eberflus. The whole thing
was completely screwed up and backwards. They were Chicago the
first team Colin to hire an offensive coordinator.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
Who did they bring in Waldron? Who did they interview?
Speaker 2 (01:35):
Cliff Kingsbury having a great year, Liam Cohen and Tampa
great year, Zach Robinson pretty good year with Kirk in Atlanta.
If I'm the Chicago Bears, I want to invest in
the position that we've invested in more than anything else.
Not only did we draft Caleb One, we drafted Keenan
Allen or are we drafted doing Day We brought in
Keenan Allen, We traded for DJ Moore.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
This is about.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
Caleb and I think about all the success he had
at SC on the field when he won the Heisman.
I think about Oklahoma, some of the issues he's had
over the last month.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
Colin.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
He's been arguably the best fourth quarter quarterback. The talent
is there. The question we had was whether or not
the maturity was there. I think he's done a pretty
good job. From the press conferences, we haven't heard anything bad.
Remember there was this stuff about the dog, the stuff
about his paint and nails. Will any of this be
an issue?
Speaker 1 (02:28):
Now? He's been great.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
He really has, and that tells me. Also, if I'm
a Bears fan, all we need is the right coach.
They have to get it right. But if they do,
this is our franchise for the next decade plus. So
I'm excited about where Caleb's at. I think he's persevered
in a way that's really impressive. And I think most
importantly is the maturity has been there.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
So Sam, Darnold, J McK and I get into this,
I think they're going to move off him. But if
this team ends up like thirteen and four, it's you know,
JJ McCarthy looked good, but he's young, he may not
be as athletic as Darnald, and he's coming off an injury.
What are they gonna do if they win the division
(03:08):
with Darnald?
Speaker 2 (03:09):
So Sam's been great, and I know you were really
high on him before the year. I wasn't necessarily as high.
He's been in the MVP conversation for at least half
the season.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
I think it's gonna.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
Be extremely difficult for Minnesota to retain him because of
the year he's had. In my opinion, he's probably gonna
garner somewhere along the lines of what Baker Mayfield got
three years, one hundred million, Yeah, which is probably fair
considering his age. He's still pretty young and what he's
shown on tape this year. It's also important that he's
worked with Kevin O'Connell, whose system has been mirrored a
(03:41):
lot across the league, so you can plug and play
Sam right away.
Speaker 3 (03:44):
He's a smart guy. He gets it.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
I think it's very realistic as well, even if they
win the division, that Sam would walk and that they
would have JJ McCarthy under that cheap rookie contract coming
back from his second knee surgery. He's been doing great.
Apparently he's head of schedule, I've been told. And then
you bring back Daniel Jones because Daniel Jones went there,
as I reported, in large part because of his relationship
dating back to the pre draft process with KOC. So
(04:09):
that relationship is there, and then you allow Jones and
McCarthy to fight it out for the number one job
next fall. But I think both of those guys, McCarthy
and Jones would be a really good one two punch
because at the very least, you'd have a young quarterback
under a cheap deal you believe in he drafted in
the first round, and then Jones, who also would be inexpensive.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
All right, So Belichick's the best coach on the market.
Last year was hardball when to the Chargers. Has turned
them around. Also, Sean Payton, you know, two years ago,
was the best coach in the market. He's turned Denver around,
So I guess Bill could do it. What do you
hear on Bill?
Speaker 2 (04:47):
I think Bill has been very calculated. Colin, Yes, with
that media, it's no coincidence that he basses the Jets.
He hates the Jets, no love lost between him and
Woodie Johnson. He doesn't like the Patriots. He basses them.
He knows he's not to the Jets, and he knows
he's not going back to the past exactly. But it's
been made clear to me that Bill Belichick still wants
to coach. Okay, I don't think anybody really knows what
(05:09):
he sees full control or not. I know it's important
to him, but how important we'll have to find out.
There are three teams I'm gonna give you Jacksonville number one.
He would have essentially full operating control there because of
the owner in shot Con. It's a pretty good roster
with a quarterback. You think about number two, This is
interesting to me.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
Dallas.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
Mike McCarthy's they we've won a couple straight. But it's
also really important to note that McCarthy does not have
a contract after the season.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
Also, Zach Dak's contract is punitive.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
Yeah, absolutely, and if he go If Bill were to
go to Dallas, let's say they move on from McCarthy,
they say we're not going to bring it back. Bill
has a very good relationship with both Steven and Jerry Jones.
So even if he doesn't have the same level of
control that he had in Jacksonville that he would have,
he would have enough of a relationship predicated on trust
where he could say, I like what you did here,
(06:00):
Let's do this differently here.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
And Bill likes Dak. He likes Dak.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
Number three, Tampa Bay. Now they're tied for first right now.
But if they don't make the playoffs and should they
move on from Todd Bowles. Belichick was with Jason light
the Bucks, GM and Tampa. Yeah, and he really liked
Baker Mayfield coming out of the draft. In fact, there
were rumblings that Bill was gonna move up for Baker.
But eventually Baker goes one and that became out of
(06:25):
the question. But if you think about the Bucks job, Tampa, Dallas,
and I would even argue Jacksonville with the right coach,
are competitive teams, good rosters. So and one more note
about Dallas. You know Bill had Lawrence Taylor. He's always said, like,
Lawrence Taylor is the best player I've ever seen, not
just defensive, he might be the best player I've ever seen.
(06:45):
He could kind of I could see him wanting to
say to Michael Parsons, You're my modern day Lawrence Taylor.
I'm gonna build this defense, build this team around you.
So there's a lot to like about having Bill Belichick
in your building. It has to be the right fit.
But I would look at Jacksonville, Tampa, and Dallas as
potential options.
Speaker 1 (07:01):
So I've made the argument that the Giants, the New
York Giants have several components that super Bowl teams need
to have great left tackle, offensive coach, star weapon edge rusher,
dominant defensive tackle. They need to upgrade their running back,
room and quarterback. My opinion, I've seen too much of
(07:22):
Joe Shane on HBO other things. I don't trust him.
Where are they going? I think day Ball should be
retained like Brian I do. I think again. I like
the left tackle, I like neighbors, I like Dibbido, I
like Dexter Lawrence. There's about five things here. I love
running back, quarterback, get another weapon. Is day Ball going
to survive?
Speaker 2 (07:42):
So it's been made very clear to me that Brian
Dayball's coaching for his job. Wow, yes, yes, And I
think over the next five weeks. I heard j Mack jetfan.
I over think over the next five weeks. This is
going to be determined what happens with Brian. And I
would even argue that Joe Shane has to survive the
next five weeks. I don't know if he's in the
same level of hot seat. But remember there was only
(08:04):
a few years ago that John Merrick came out and
said Joe Judge is safe. They fired him two weeks later. Yeah, okay,
So Brian dave Ball is a really good offensive coach.
I think we learned that in Buffalo. The problem is
they've had very little to no success. And if you're
Joe Shane, you've talked a lot about the offensive line
a hard knocks. It wasn't just Saquon letting him go.
The offensive line stunk this year. And Evan Neil first
(08:26):
round pick, top seven pick, hasn't played.
Speaker 1 (08:28):
It hasn't played.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
Kevon Tipodau hasn't played a lot. They it's just it's
a really good job. It's the New York Giants. It's
a temple or it got.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
Pieces they do.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
But if you're Joe Shane, not only did you let
Saquon walk out the door, but you gave Devin Singletary
you'r backup running back, seven million bucks. You gave Drew
Locke your backup quarterback, who actually was the number three
five million bucks. You let Xavier McKinney walk out the door.
He is second right now in Defensive Player of the
Year Odds, leads the NFL with seven picks. The Giants
(08:59):
now have eleven straight games Colin without an interception.
Speaker 3 (09:02):
That's broke.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
That broke an NFL record. You let Julian Love go
in freegency. He was a Pro Bowl last year in
Seattle rock Solid. You let Leonard Williams go, You traded him.
He was the defensive player of the Year of the
week last list.
Speaker 1 (09:13):
Shane Shane to me, you can't retain so but I would.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
Argue that Joe and Brian in many ways, because they
both came from Buffalo, are together. So I don't know realistically,
if one goes, can you keep the other. But I
do believe, as it's been made clear to me, Brian's
coaching for his job, and I think Joe needs to survive.
The Giants need to be competitive these next five weeks
without question.
Speaker 1 (09:37):
For both of them. Let's be quick on this one.
Then I'll get to the Packers. Bryce Young I think
has earned another.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
Year, absolutely absolutely, And Colin when when Bryce Young was benched,
I was told he's gonna get another shot. Andy Dalton
gets hurt. Bryce comes back, and over the last few
weeks this has been the Bryce Young number one pick
out of Alabama. The fact that he has resurrectored his
(10:04):
career that quickly without elite talent tells me all I
need to know. I spoke with a defensive coordinator who
played him last year and said all you had to
do was attack of he panicked.
Speaker 3 (10:14):
We're not seeing that panic now.
Speaker 2 (10:16):
In fact, we're seeing Bryce Young eysedownfield, very confident, chess
puffed out, looks like.
Speaker 3 (10:21):
A number one quarterback, looks a lot like c. J.
Stroud did last year.
Speaker 1 (10:25):
Thrower, accurate, moves well.
Speaker 2 (10:27):
Absolutely, and I give Carolina Dan Morgan the GM a
lot of credit for not panicking and giving up on
the kid. They brought him back or they gave him
that opportunity. They invested a lot on their offensive line.
Robert Hunt and Damian Lewis the two guards. They re
up with Chuba Hubbard. They have Jonathan Brooks, two young backs.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
They drafted Lagette. They like him a lot.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
So if you're the Panthers, I think you know now
definitively we have our franchise quarterback.
Speaker 3 (10:52):
He's a great kid.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
They love him in that locker room, and most importantly
you have now seen it on the field. This is
the Bryce Young of Alabama. This is a definitive cornerstone.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
Yeah, Dan Morgan's gonna make some waves. I like him.
My guys like him a lot.
Speaker 3 (11:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
Finally, Packers. I've said this, I feel like they're the
best team in the league that can't win a Super Bowl?
Am I wrong?
Speaker 3 (11:14):
Okay?
Speaker 2 (11:14):
So I would push back and say, is it because
you don't believe in the defense, the coach?
Speaker 1 (11:18):
They are just a bit young, whereas the Eagles, the Lions,
the Chiefs, and the Bills have more elite players in
their prime. I feel like all their best players are
moving into their place.
Speaker 2 (11:28):
You feel like Green Bay is maybe Detroit last year, yes, away, yep, Okay,
so that's that's reasonable. I'd say the counter to that
is they started really slow and Jordan Love started really
so last year, same with this year.
Speaker 3 (11:41):
He gets hurt. Over the last three weeks, Jordan Love.
Speaker 2 (11:44):
Is number one in every major statistical category including EPA
per play and touchdown for Senate. So he's playing. Jordan
Love over the last few weeks. Is the best quarterback
in football?
Speaker 4 (11:52):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (11:53):
He was last year at the end of the year.
Speaker 2 (11:54):
And they brought the Josh Jacobs move was tremendous. The
Xavier McKinney was tremendous.
Speaker 5 (12:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (12:01):
Well, the Packers have always been so good with personnel.
Speaker 2 (12:04):
And they really nailed it this year. The defense has
been good, not great, but good. So I look at
Green Bay and I think this team's peaking at the
right time. Yes, they have a quarterback who is awesome
and he's on a heat.
Speaker 1 (12:17):
With a great deal of confidence.
Speaker 2 (12:19):
And listen, I haven't been like over the last couple
of years, I've said, well, Matt Lafleur could have done this,
could have done that. Matt Lafleur is undoubtedly one of
the five best coaches in football right now.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
No, and you know what, They've become a power run team.
Speaker 3 (12:31):
At times, and that's the Josh Jacobs effect.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
Yes, and that's what's really important. This is what Buffalo
always missed. It's like it starts snowing. Can you Baltimore
can power run? Philadelphia can, Detroit can, Buffalo can now,
Green Bay can. Absolutely five teams in this league, but
Isaiah Pacheco gives Kansas City a chance to do that.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (12:52):
And if you think about if you think about green
Bay the home field advantage to your point about Buffalo,
it's similar cold, nasty.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
You don't want to tackle.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
Josh Jones or Josh Jacobs is that type of running back.
He gets stronger, he's he has that kind of Derrick
Henry Saquan element where third fourth quarter you don't want
to tackle them, particularly in the cold. So if Green
Bay can somehow get the number one or number two seed,
then they really are in a position of strength come
playoff time.
Speaker 3 (13:19):
I like the team. I hear what you're saying.
Speaker 2 (13:20):
They might be a year away, but because of the
quarterback and the head coach, I do believe.
Speaker 1 (13:24):
You are not a year away. You keep crushing it
and we love having you in the studio. Buddy Jordan Schultz.
Either way, one of our favorite players, Dion Dawkins. Before
the end of the show.
Speaker 2 (13:33):
Do you know, Dion, I love Deon so in fact,
I was here when he was here last summer. I
think it was well with Jmax seat when Jay Mack,
I think Damick was in the Bahamas, Caribbean. Yeah, something
like that, And I love Deon, loved me some. Deon Dawkins,
great guy.
Speaker 1 (13:46):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd Weekdays
and Noon Easter not a im Pacific. Dean Dawkins of
the Buffalo Bills coming up first though.
Speaker 6 (13:53):
Jay Mack with the news, Turn on the News, This
is the Herd Line News.
Speaker 3 (14:02):
Good Dart with the Afcas.
Speaker 4 (14:04):
We're doing Deon Dakins soon.
Speaker 7 (14:06):
But let's start with the Dolphins who are still in
the playoff makes five and seven.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
They're gonna need to catch a couple.
Speaker 7 (14:10):
Of breaks to catch Denver for the final wildcard spot. Yeah,
it didn't help the two of them as four games
with the concussion, and he believes he's responsible for where
Miami is at in the playoff race.
Speaker 5 (14:22):
Nobody else will say it but me and I feel
like this has a lot to do with myself obviously
putting myself in harm's way in the second game going down.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
Basically, my guy's out to dry.
Speaker 5 (14:37):
That's what I would say, and anyone can have an
opinion about, like it's football, it's this.
Speaker 3 (14:43):
It's that you know.
Speaker 1 (14:44):
I do take take a heart to that as well.
Speaker 3 (14:48):
And still don't want to do that to my guys.
Speaker 1 (14:51):
Again, he's always good at the podium right now, J Mac,
It's Mahomes, Josh Allen, Russell Wilson, C. J. Stroud the
playoffs with Lamar bow Knicks and Justin Herbert on the
peripher ate.
Speaker 7 (15:05):
Not put your guy bone Nicks yet in there?
Speaker 1 (15:07):
They okay at home? Are aren't you excited about We've
got another great franchise quarterback. Caleb's a hit, Jaden's hit,
Bow's a hit.
Speaker 7 (15:17):
Who Anthony Richardson's a franchise quarterback?
Speaker 1 (15:19):
No, no, no, I'm saying this year we have three hits minimum.
Speaker 5 (15:23):
Bo Nicks is a hit.
Speaker 3 (15:24):
We're putting in there already.
Speaker 1 (15:25):
He's one of the best fourth quarter quarterbacks in the
league right now. You don't think bon Nick's a franchise had.
Speaker 7 (15:32):
A good stretch, it's looking promising. You like to just
crown people instantly, crown them Bonnicks franchise got dude?
Speaker 3 (15:38):
You you what thirteen?
Speaker 1 (15:39):
You had brought Pertty in Canton by week four? That
was of this season, like his third season or something.
Come on, Okay, I think Bonnicks is a hit.
Speaker 3 (15:48):
He's looked very good. Him and Peyton are clicking.
Speaker 1 (15:51):
I'm happy for them. Second show, you were looking for
a raise. I'm just saying we're weak fourteen for a RaSE.
Speaker 3 (15:56):
So anyway, do you think Miami's got a shot to
catch Denver?
Speaker 1 (15:58):
No?
Speaker 7 (16:00):
I can't wait for Do you want to go to
Denver's first playoff game wherever it is?
Speaker 4 (16:03):
Do a lot?
Speaker 1 (16:03):
I would love to if I was, If I was invited.
Speaker 3 (16:07):
Why don't we do the show from there?
Speaker 1 (16:08):
Well, going by that, you can't just take our show somewhere.
It costs money. Fox is rolling, They're swimming in money.
Speaker 7 (16:15):
Come on, geez, all right, fine, let's go to the
next story. And it's not Kirk Cousins getting beds story.
It's a Kirk Cousins revenge game story. Colin forgot he
was in Minnesota forever. Yeah, and now he's returning there
with Atlanta.
Speaker 3 (16:29):
Obviously, it's been a.
Speaker 7 (16:30):
Rough three weeks for Kirk, but he spoke about his
mindset entering week fourteen.
Speaker 4 (16:36):
I think you just kind of go through the week,
go through your process. You understand, you know, it's it's
like a familiar place. But at the same time, I've
never it's happened. When I played in Washington for the
first time back, I had no idea where the away
locker room was. I had never been in there. There's
certainly some unique, unique experiences there, but at the end
of the day, you're there to go play football game
(16:57):
and go play your best and win, and that's where
you're focus.
Speaker 1 (17:01):
Well, hold on, Kirk, because I picked you to win
the division. But I think Baker right now is playing
pretty elite football.
Speaker 7 (17:07):
The Kirk has an awe shucks nature about him at
the podium where he's like, I didn't know where their
weight room is after six years, you know, And I
think that's kind of the real Kirk Cousins. There's no
putting on airs when he gets to the posts.
Speaker 1 (17:18):
He's a nice dude, nice guy.
Speaker 7 (17:20):
Yeah, I respect a lot, a lot of class. This
line has kept going up. Now five's kind of a
dead number in NFL gambling. But it was five five
and a half. Now six Is that a little bit
too much? Just because Atlanta's on a bit of a
losing streak here.
Speaker 1 (17:35):
I don't know what to make Greg Cosell said this
an hour ago. I don't know what to make of
what I'm watching. I've never seen I've watched Kirk for
ten years. I mean it's like, man like, when Mike
Tyson couldn't punch, you were like, yeah, he lost half
his blood, you know, five months ago, and he's, you know,
sixty years old. I'm watching Kirk Cousins six weeks ago,
seven weeks ago, he's lighting the world up, and now
(17:58):
it's like he's lost nine miles an hour Office Fastball.
That one interception off the sideline. It was insane. You're
like that in the end zone.
Speaker 7 (18:09):
Just killed because I was on Atlanta last week and
I just I was why did I do this? You've
said all season you refuse to touch f No.
Speaker 1 (18:17):
No, I have lost more money on the Atlanta Falcons
than any sports team ever in the history of sports.
Speaker 7 (18:26):
Honestly, another kicker sticks who mister Jacks? I know, so
I'm done with Atlanta. If anything, Minnesota will passed for me.
Speaker 1 (18:34):
I don't know what.
Speaker 3 (18:34):
Good luck to Kirk Cousins.
Speaker 7 (18:35):
Final story colin Is college football National signing Day was yesterday.
The NIL obviously was a major factor with players chasing
that bag. LSU finished with a top ten recruiting class,
but Brian Kelly spoke to what he sees as nil's
negative impact on the sport.
Speaker 8 (18:54):
It's not just about finding the right fit academically. It's
not just about finding the right fit where you can
develop holistically.
Speaker 3 (19:08):
And graduate and play for a championship.
Speaker 8 (19:11):
It's about what the most money I can get.
Speaker 3 (19:16):
And that's unfortunate, but it's the world we live in.
Speaker 1 (19:21):
Yeah, there's a lot of it.
Speaker 7 (19:22):
It's a bigger discussion to be had, but He's not wrong, Colin.
Speaker 1 (19:26):
No, he's not. Listen, it's it's just the reality of
what you know. There's so many cool things about college
football right now. I like the NIL and I like
the transfer portal, I like the playoff. I feel like
there needs to be guard rails on the portal and
anil that.
Speaker 7 (19:44):
Then the question is like what kind of guardrails, because
you wait two hundred and fifty thousand dollars in front
of an eighteen year old kid, they're gonna be like,
oh my gosh, give me that. They're not thinking long term.
They're thinking short term, right. I don't know how you
get them to see long term. I don't want to
say it's a parent thing, but the parent has to,
over the course of many years, say like, listen, this
(20:04):
is just not going to be a good decision. And
these kids are just going after big money. And then
the next year they're in the in the portal again.
Speaker 9 (20:10):
You know, it's.
Speaker 5 (20:14):
A lot.
Speaker 3 (20:15):
You know, rails do you want to put in? Well?
Speaker 1 (20:16):
I think there should be times you can transfer in
times you can't. Even the NFL has that. I think
I think there should be a cap per team, like
every sport except baseball, as a salary cap you should
have like a cap like no college team can spend
more than you know, whatever the number is. You don't
want Ohio State spending twenty eight and Purdue spending a million,
(20:37):
then it's the Pirates and the Dodgers. Isn't that where
we have been for thirty years ago? Yes, But in
the facility upgrades purdues, facilities aren't that much worse than
Wisconsin's or Michigan's. Like facilities, people were willing to put
money in facilities because you could put the name on it.
The Johnson family for the Golden Gophers, right, so there
(21:00):
was some you'd find a rich guy, he'd get his
name on the building, and so a middle of the
pack school could have tremendous facilities. This is like you're
asking the rich arexpanding and there's nothing. The facilities war
was healthier because everybody. UCLA is not a rich program
in terms of athletics. They have beautiful facilities. Oregon State's
(21:24):
got beautiful facilities, but Oregon State can't compete with Oregon
If it's just here's twenty two million a year from
a rich booster, they can't compete. So I think if
you did a cap. And by the way, it's the
kind of cap to circumvent that cap.
Speaker 7 (21:36):
Anyway, Remember you couldn't pay players, and there was the
bag the bad guys in the SECS just showing up at.
Speaker 1 (21:41):
Yeah, you can also, he's always gonna happen. I mean, well,
it's never gonna be perfect. Never. Let's not be idealistic,
but I but I think when it just comes down
to who's got the richest boosters, you have a chance
to really have a separation. That's not healthy. That there
was always like a facility war and Texas I had
better ones than Texas Tech. But everybody could go to
(22:04):
two boosters. You put a name in the building and
you'd I went to very average schools with gorgeous facilities.
Like like right now, what Ohio State spends and what
UCLA spends. The gap is I mean, I'm not kidding you.
It's a tricycle to a maserati. It's not competitive.
Speaker 7 (22:21):
I don't know how you convince some kids, but like, hey, listen,
I have no ties to Iowa. But if you look
at the Iowa football program, they put a ton of
guys in the NFL. They set you up for success,
not everybody else is doing that around the country. They
just want to win now and win titles. So I
think people got to think long term. But as a teenager,
I wasn't thinking long term. I was thinking, oh, oh,
I don't blame a kid. I don't blame the kids
(22:43):
for taking the money. That's why we have to set
up a system. You know, everybody has to be governed.
You can't be president until this age. You can't drive
until this age. You can't run a car until this age.
There's all sorts of borders on you know, and boundaries
and ceilings on stuff. For younger people. I don't think
you should be buying high school football players.
Speaker 1 (23:02):
I actually think you shouldn't be able to pay anybody
until they're in the program for six months. I don't
think you should be able to buy high school player.
I think to make money in the NIL you have
to be in a program and have six and like
have a semester or a quarter finished in the school academically.
Speaker 7 (23:20):
So the contract is written, but you don't get.
Speaker 1 (23:22):
The money until no, no, it gets got it gets
all these money bad guys out of high school. Okay,
well what happened?
Speaker 7 (23:27):
Then you get like the guy goes there, he gets
injured in the third practice.
Speaker 1 (23:30):
He's out for two months. Oh well, we can't pay you.
Now you're in try That's right, that's right, what that's
called life. I came here under the pretense. You're doing
a lot of pretenses. Pretense, a lot, a lot of
pretenses don't work out. We are disagreeing a lot today.
Well forty times you come in a little sideways. Now
straight Now, I gotta get you back on the fairway.
(23:50):
J mckl the news.
Speaker 4 (23:52):
Well that's the news, and thanks for stopping by The
Herd Line News.
Speaker 1 (23:56):
Deon Dawkins funny guy, Buffalo Bill's next. Sure to catch
live editions of The Herd weekdays and noon Easter nine
am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio FS one and the
iHeartRadio app. All right, one of my favorite guys, Dion Dawkins,
the All Pro left tackle for the Buffalo Bills. They've
had a lot of movement in the last couple of years,
but this is the best version of Buffalo James Cook,
(24:19):
Dalton Kincaid now with Dawson Knox, Deon Dawkins, Amari Cooper.
Now they've got the full component to me and he
is joining us now live from the Bills facilities. So
you know, it was interesting. I said this on the
here when I was watching this game, I felt like
(24:40):
you guys were having fun. You all look like you
were eight year old kids on the first snowfall of
the year, and you guys were like, oh, like, let's
have some fun. That's what it felt like to me,
Like you guys already seized the weather in the moment.
Did it feel like that.
Speaker 6 (24:57):
Yes, it felt like it felt like we was playing
out or backyards, or if we were playing in Josh's yard.
You know, like I just felt like we all just
came to a place and just said, all right, let's
get the ball from here to here, and let's have
a little bit of fun doing it.
Speaker 7 (25:14):
It was.
Speaker 9 (25:15):
It was definitely a unique experience.
Speaker 6 (25:17):
This is the second time that I've ever played in
like a real, real snow game where like the snow
is actually like effective, Like we're like they got to
blow the lines and we can't see the sidelines unless
and but they blow it. It was a unique, unique
day for in Buffalo, but it was definitely fun.
Speaker 1 (25:36):
Yep, you had your Okalle's on there, so let me
ask you this. You've only allowed thirteen sacks this year.
And that's not me, no, lie, the whole line, that's
what I'm saying. That's the lowest in the NFL by
by by far. In my take is it's strange because
you're a team that you got a quarterback that's a
big target. People blitch you because the way to beat
(25:58):
Buffalo is dis Josh Allen. So obviously you're fine. But
there's a lot of movement. How is the cohesion gotten
so good so fast? Explain that to me and the audience.
Speaker 6 (26:13):
Yeah, so's there's a beautiful thing called a good coach.
You know, everything stems from a good coach. Players in
the NFL, we're all players. We're all professional players, and
everybody is at a level of being some type of
good to a professional level to be able to play
in this league. But when you have a coach like
(26:34):
Chromer that allows his players to be who they truly are,
and he coaches each one of his players diffinitely, like
he doesn't coach me like how he coaches Spencer, And
he doesn't coach Spencer like how he coaches Connor and.
Speaker 9 (26:46):
Cybo and Dave.
Speaker 6 (26:48):
Like everybody has their pros, everyone has their weaknesses, and
Chromer does a good job of maximizing our pros and
limiting our weakness and making those things and disappear.
Speaker 9 (27:02):
And that's that's what you're seeing. Even even like our
practice squad.
Speaker 6 (27:06):
Guys, they're here and they're getting good, very very fast.
And that's our hard reflection of one. It stems from
coach mc dermott, but directly our assistant coach Austin, our
third assistant coach Mills, and Cromer, our head O line coach.
He does a good job of allowing us to be
who we truly are. And that's unique different players.
Speaker 1 (27:28):
So Dian Dawkins joining us eighth season in the NFL,
three time pro bowler, And you know, Julian Edelman told
me once this about the Patriots dynasty. He goes, even
though it was me and Gronk and Belichick and Brady,
every team had a different personality. And about October you'd
(27:50):
be like, oh, this team, this is grittier. This one's
a little loud, you know. And I always thought that
was fascinating. I'm like, well, the core players were all here,
were your core players mostly all here? Tell me the
vibe today and last year at this time. What is
the vibe? Has it changed this year?
Speaker 6 (28:12):
Man? If I can give you one word to describe
the vibe of the Buffalo Bills, we are uniquely ourself
while being lit. And that's not one word, it's a bla,
it's a sentence. But we're just ourself, you know, Like
the vibe is just self. Everybody is a true version
of who they are. Like like Coop is not a
(28:33):
big celebrated Coop is not gonna do a do a
touchdown dance. Right our guy Mac Mac is gonna walk
in the game without shoes on. Dianna is gonna do
something different. He might put some oatly shades on, you know.
Kean is gonna wear his jewelry and he's gonna catch
magnificent plays Khalil. He's gonna catch across the middle and
(28:55):
get yards after catch while being his true self. And
Josh is just going to be that MVP guy. But
where literally ourself is? I would say, but in a
confidence level of humble, Like we're humble.
Speaker 9 (29:09):
We're not like, oh we're the big dog d D
d D.
Speaker 6 (29:12):
No, we are just uniquely who we are and we're
playing Buffalo Bill's Ball and late in the season, when
bodies start to hurt, you have to depend on your
big guys, and for our coaches, they lean on us
as the big guys, and we know where our job
is and we have to win. We have to you know,
like we get to a point every year and we
(29:35):
need to continue to have the pressure on the big
boys up front, which is what we've been doing all year.
Which is why I'm blessed and honored to say humbly
that Josh is the least sat quarterback in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (29:48):
Yeah, it's you know it is. I think I've asked
you this before. Josh Allen's like a superstar. Like you know,
you're gonna tell your grandkids in twenty years. You're like,
it's like playing with Dan Reno. You'll be like, you
play with Josh Allen, You're like, play with him. I
protected him.
Speaker 9 (30:03):
Right, right?
Speaker 1 (30:04):
Right?
Speaker 9 (30:04):
I was just God protect that guy.
Speaker 6 (30:06):
Yeah, like like I protect Dwayne Johnson's Josh the Rock
Dwayne Johnson. Right, I'm drifting cars and fashion in furious
I'm protecting them.
Speaker 9 (30:18):
This is my dog.
Speaker 6 (30:19):
This is Dom the Roc Dwayne Johnson. Lets it's the
crew man.
Speaker 1 (30:25):
Does he ever when you're in your meetings because he
can't see everything. Have you ever been in a meeting
after a game and Josh Allen sees you pancake a
guy that he didn't know happened during the game and
in the meeting. Tell me about that, Like, what are
those meetings like? Because he can't watch every little movement
you make.
Speaker 6 (30:44):
Yeah, so I would say. But the more cool thing
is is Josh would be like watching film and he'll
send you a clip like like okay dog, like okay
lt one, and it'll it'll just be like, all right,
my guy's watching film. He sees what the guys are doing.
And then if it's end meeting where coach will put
it up or one of the coordinators or even Cromer
(31:06):
will will put up a cliff, Josh will like literally
like just turn around and give us a little clap
and tip his head and that's all we need. You know,
you see us, You know that we are working big boys.
Speaker 9 (31:20):
We get our love.
Speaker 6 (31:20):
From our quarterbacks and our running backs and we appreciate it.
Speaker 9 (31:24):
But he turns around because he sits.
Speaker 6 (31:26):
In the front and he just gives a little head
nod with a little clap, and uh, you know, it's
kind of like give me three claps and a Rick
Flair or two claps and a Ric Flair.
Speaker 9 (31:36):
So clap, clap, WHOA.
Speaker 1 (31:39):
Well your hell You're heading to LA against the Rams.
You've had a remarkable season. I've said this before. I
think America wants to see the Bills and the Lions
play and we only have a minute left. But I
did think the way you beat Kansas City was different
this time. I thought it was different.
Speaker 9 (31:57):
Was it? It was a good battle.
Speaker 6 (32:01):
It was a good battle, and we consistently have in
good battles every year. They beat us, we beat them,
they beat us, they beat us twice. Sometimes we beat
them once and we lose. The second one is sometimes
vice versa. But it's it's just good on good. They
are a great team. They show it every year consistently,
and we're honored to be able to stand head to
(32:23):
head and play at a high level against those against
those chief guys.
Speaker 1 (32:27):
Yeah, I mean, it's really become, in my opinion, as
good a rivalry. It's got a Manning Brady feel to it,
it really does. It's got a Marino elway field to it.
It's got a I mean, it's you don't get many
of those you know you're in the middle of it. Man,
You're in the middle of history right now, and the
key is winning that game in January. Dion Dawkins, safe travels,
(32:49):
my man. Thanks for coming on the show.
Speaker 9 (32:51):
Yes, sir, always man, much love. You're my dog. I
appreciate you. It's to honor as always. Much love.
Speaker 1 (32:56):
Dion Dawkins, A great one and gonna end up eight
CS in three time Pro bowler. That is amazing when
you can get I mean, this league is really get
the quarterback right, get the left tackle right, find your
coach in an edge rusher. If you can check those
four boxes, it's hard to be bad. Coach, quarterback, somebody
(33:17):
protecting the quarterback, and somebody that gets the quarterback on
your team. That like, there's four or five boxes in
the league you gotta check. That's why I keep saying
Denver's Reel, Sean Payton, bow knicks, Garrett Bulls left tackle,
and the pass rusher number fifteen Nick Betido. Now, now,
(33:38):
obviously in twenty twenty four football, you got to give
a guy a weapon. It'd be nice to have two,
one in the backfield, one out wide. But it's like
it to me, I look at Denver, and people are like,
I don't know.
Speaker 9 (33:50):
Now.
Speaker 1 (33:50):
Obviously bow Knicks isn't Josh Allen, but I you know,
in Denver, I got coach, left tackle, quarterback, weapon, edge rusher.
By next year. When bo Nicks has twenty five games,
thirty games under his belt by the end of next year,
then I think he become a super Bowl team. And
I think Buffalo's in that, Detroit's in that, Philadelphia is
in that Baltimore, Kansas City. A very small number of
(34:13):
teams that are in that. Dion Dawkins stopping by today,
Jordan Schultz hit it out of the park. Greg Cosel
as always tonight, Lions are three to four point favored
over green Bay. I think green Bay plays really well.
I think Detroit's all banged up, especially on the D line.
I think in the box, green Bay's become a power
(34:36):
run team. I think green Bay is gonna run the
ball forty times. I think green Bay if there's an
upset this week, and I don't really consider divisional field
goal underdog's upsets, but I think green Bay's mission is
keep the Lions O line off the field, power run,
eat the clock. I think green Bay upsets the Lions tonight.
Now we thought that, both of us thought that when
(34:57):
the Colts. But this is not the Colts. Jordan Love
is not Anthony Richardson, Jordan Love is.
Speaker 7 (35:04):
Let me see, I'm optimistic, but I also know the
Lions are the best covering the spread team in the
last three years in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (35:12):
I'm going I'm gonna go twenty eight twenty seven packers,
twenty one to twenty packers. We both like Green Bay. Man.
How about that? That great? We'll see you tomorrow.
