(00:22):
listening to Fox Sports Radio. Here we go at hour two.
It is a what are we doing today? It's a Wednesday,
Todays holiday season. I don't know next we are a
week away from Christmas. Now, you and I are off
on Christmas, right, I hope. So Christmas Eve. I just
found out my daughter's coming over making cookies all day

(00:42):
and I'm gonna have a big chicken palm dinner. So
that's gonna be amazing as free cookies for dad.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
Cookies.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
She said she's gonna bring over like five friends and
just you know, that's what they're gonna do. And I
don't even know. So it's like we went on a
walk last night after the Bucks winn and it was like,
what are you doing? Because my family's all over the
country this year. It's a weird year, so you know,
kids get older, they're all over the place. You did
invite me on Christmas to come.

Speaker 3 (01:07):
Over waiting on the RSVP.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
On that one, big boy, I told you all bring
the wings. Okay, say, I don't think your family could
handle me. I come with a lot of hot takes,
not baggage. Well that too, a lot of baggage and
a lot of time.

Speaker 3 (01:24):
Here's the neurogum. Just no cigars, bummer.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
Okay. So you know, I was thinking, Jim Nant said
this weekend, Jim's terrific. He said, the Buffalo Bills are
America's team. And I've been on this for a couple
of years. Dallas is not America's team. When Dallas is on,
I don't watch. I'm not interested. I love watching the Chiefs,
I love watching the Packers. I think the Lions are
a great story. I think I do believe Buffalo feels
a little bit like America's team is that they've been

(01:48):
to multiple Super Bowls. I think if the Buffalo Bills
go to a super Bowl, it will shatter records. Now
I think Kansas City going for a three peat is
good as well. But I was thinking this morning, if
I had a choice, these would be just for the
bigness of it. The macro of it. These would be
my five favorite super Bowl. So number one would be

(02:08):
Bills against the Detroit Lions. I would call it snow
caps against knee caps. I mean, listen, the Lions have
never reached a super Bowl and the Bills are zero
to four. I mean, this would be This would be
I mean tears. Somebody's gonna win this, and you're gonna
You're gonna get emotional as a viewer. I think Buffalo

(02:30):
right now is the better team. Neither's playing a ton
of defense, mostly because Detroit's all banged up. The second
best super Bowl to me would be the same Buffalo
Bills against their dramatic Philadelphia Eagles. Super quarterback against super roster.
I think Philadelphia's got the most star players, the best roster,
and I think teams like that are fun to watch

(02:50):
in the Super Bowl against a team that's got some
limitations on the defensive side. Also, number two scoring offense Buffalo,
number one defense, Philadelip you. I think the third Super
Bowl I'd want to watch would be the Kansas City
Chiefs against the Packers. This matchup would be pretty gouda.

(03:10):
I'm sorry I ran out of material there. Okay, So
The Chiefs are looking for their first ever three pete
in the history of the league, and their Andy Reid
and Mahomes big stage. Packers have not been to a
super Bowl since the Air in years, but when they
get there, they've won four or five. And again you're
talking about I think, in my opinion, Jordan Love has
a lot of Patrick Mahomes to his game, where he

(03:33):
can let it loose. He'll throw an ugly interception, but
he has a lot of fun to watch. Number four
and maybe it's me Baltimore against Philadelphia, it's Lamarrvelous Lamar
finally proves his critics wrong again. Stylistically, power football, a
lot of running, but some playmakers. Lamar is twenty four

(03:56):
and two all time against the NFC, So I think
Philadelphia is the much better team. But Lamar the first
time you face him, I mean, there is nothing else
like him. So that would be the fourth best super
Bowl and finally the fifth best super Bowl, and I'll
be uninsufferable if it happens. Jim Harbaugh against Sam Darnold,

(04:19):
where Colin was oh so right. The coach I love
and two quarterbacks I love. I think both teams are
probably a draft away. But listen, all these Super Bowls
are going to get a number. I do think Detroit Buffalo,

(04:40):
I don't think you can top that. I think that
is that's tear jerker stuff more than anything, because I
don't think Baltimore has the defensive makeup to win. But
it is interesting. So both Buffalo and Baltimore love their offense.

(05:02):
We have questions about the defense, but these games are
going to be played up north. I mean, the truth,
is it your defense. Who's throwing the ball if it's
twenty eight one hour wins? So Buffalo and Baltimore, And
for let's be honest, Kansas City's not a high power offense.
So the argument for Kansas City is they have the

(05:23):
best defense of all the top teams in the AFC.
I mean they do. It's a much better defense than Buffalo.
It's a much better defense than Baltimore. So we spend
so much attention paying attention to offense. But what really
makes it interesting for Kansas City is they have the
best coaching, quarterback and the best defense. So everybody wants
to sell their chief stuff. Don't forget the last three

(05:45):
Super Bowl champs, Kansas City twice in the Rams played
their best football from about now until the game. Remember that,
Remember the Matt Stafford first year in LA they started well,
then they got really sideways in the middle of the season,
then they got hot. Kansas City last two years they've
been trying to figure out their offense. Like at Week fourteen,

(06:07):
they're not sure what they're offense. Remember last year the
Chiefs got bea the Raiders. They couldn't figure out their offense.
So as the season has been expanded to eighteen weeks
in seventeen games, and this has always been to some
degree a league of attrition. I mean, the you know,
the Chiefs lose their left tackle and they got to
go on the market and get a left tackle. So
I think the one thing you worry about with Kansas City,

(06:29):
it's not the Mahomes injury. It's that the one time
they've been vulnerable in the playoffs is when they could
not protect Mahomes. And he has been hit this year
more than any other year. You can't cat to Josh Allen.
Josh Allen, I don't know. He hadn't been sacked in
a month. So there's there's a lot of I mean,
I think weather comes into play here. It doesn't matter

(06:51):
until Detroit plays Philly. Big advantage if it's twelve degrees
in Philadelphia outdoors, but if it's a fast track, I mean,
green Bay will be fine outdoors, Philly, You'll be fine outdoors.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
You know.

Speaker 1 (07:05):
Vikings, I think are mostly because of their vertical nature,
are built to play indoors.

Speaker 3 (07:09):
And Detroit is you mentioned green Bay.

Speaker 4 (07:12):
It looks like it's gonna be a snow game or
really frigid temperatures against the Saints this week.

Speaker 3 (07:17):
The last time we saw.

Speaker 4 (07:18):
Green Bay in bad inclement weather in green Bay was
against Detroit and they did not look good. Now that
was love coming off the injury. I think the Packers
indoors are a scary football team, calm. Their receivers are
like a track team.

Speaker 1 (07:32):
So Josh Allen has not been sacked since November tenth,
That is insane. So whereas Mahomes is taking a beating,
so that is that's another big advantage. You're gonna get
a very fresh, a very protected Josh Allen and Mahomes
he's gonna be you know, we've seen him in Super
bowls limping around. So by the way, before we get

(07:52):
to Urban Meyer, after the break, Urban Meyer Ohio State Tennessee.
That thing's got upset written all over it. Indiana is
a touch down underdog to Notre Dame j Mac. I
don't know what the what the wise guys think. Indianas
well coached a month off. That's pretty interesting. Do we
have Urban now? Oh we do? Okay, let's go to
them right now. Urban Meyer, Fox Sports College analyst. He's

(08:14):
joining us live. So the Ohio State Tennessee game is fascinating.
Ohio State's got better players. Here's what I worry about.
And you've had teams like this, the Tennessee d line,
that's their strength. The Ohio State online is arguably a
unit that's always been a bit in flux. If you

(08:34):
went into a big game and you're like, okay, and
you went into a few of these, Okay, we can't
do this and they can. Does that concern you that
the volunteer strength could be the liability of Ohio State.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
It's very alarming. Anytime you get to December, that's really
the number one place you look, and all those years
of game plan and the first thing you do is
you I mean, I would I remember for years and
years and years you sit there and you just run
back and forth the matchups on the offensive line and
defense line, and when Seth McLoughlin, the center got hurt.
For Ohio State, this is right after their best performance

(09:11):
maybe in two years at Penn State, and they didn't
play very well against the Wolverines. Better fact, they played poorly.
They looked discombobulated, and a lot of that's because of
those three injuries they had in the offensive line. So
there's some answers, but that's the first play you checked out.
The obvious answers culling, get the ball out fast. This
is gonna be a This is gonna be a throw

(09:31):
first game for Ohio State. It's gonna be cold, but
there's you know, is what it is. It's gonna be
a throw first game, which obviously that's not conducive to
you know, a big time matchup. But this it's gonna
be a throw first game for Ohio State.

Speaker 1 (09:45):
So urban this happened to you very infrequently. But if
you lost a game in college and had a long layoff,
that's different. Generally you win, Ohio State wins, they get
a month off. Boy it is it is. I'll a
lot of energy and a lot of smiling in the
weight room. Teams kind of trying to find itself for
the next month. So it's about culture and it's about coaching.

(10:08):
Does that concern you? It does?

Speaker 2 (10:13):
It does because you've been having to eat this damn
thing now for three weeks and it's awful. I mean
I was there in Columbus and that's you know, you
lose to that team up north, you lose to the Wolverines,
and Ohio is a tough place. Man, that's a high expectations.
But I actually talked to coach to day. In the
old days, you had to if you lost that game,

(10:35):
you had to eat it for three hundred and sixty
five days, go to some bowl game. You wish you didn't.
We're in probably, but you don't have time. Now you've
got an sec program, a team that's got a, like
you said, a very good d line coming in here.
So to me, Colin, this is all about those seniors
came back for a lot of reasons. One was to
beat the team up North. They didn't do it. However,

(10:56):
they also want to go compete for a national title.
To me, this is a locker room issue. If they
come out and play well, that means they got a
strong locker room. If they don't, that means they don't.

Speaker 1 (11:06):
The two best college football coaches in my lifetime are
probably Nick Saban and Urban Meyer. Both you tried the NFL.
The fit was an ideal. I don't believe that all
NFL guys go to college and it's easy. I don't
think Belichick or Bill Parcells, they don't have a lot
of charisma. I don't think they're built for college football.
I think you're limited on number of hours. I think

(11:27):
you have to deal now more than ever with donors
and administration and nonsense. I thought college football was always
going to be tough for certain guys. I think it's
going to be I think Bill's going to get tired
of it really quick. He's built a pro model. You
know Bill, we know he's smart. But Nick and you
could turn it on. I know both of you. I've

(11:47):
been and been with you. You have a good sense
of humor, You're light. That's a big part of this thing.
You The players are selecting you in college. In the pros,
you just select them. I'm in the minority here, I
think Bill, I think the tedium of college football coaching
could wear him out. Are you a little concerned that
he's stepping into something that's gotten really difficult. College coaching.

Speaker 2 (12:12):
I know coach very well, went to many times up
to the Patriots, and what amazed me was how smart
he was and he adapts and he can get things done.
It's a much different game that me and you knew
Colin that. For example, you know how many times the
coaches are on the road the month of December in college.
Now none. He used to be every day. You were
gone for three weeks in the month of December in

(12:34):
people's homes. Now you don't do that. Now is simply
they come to your campus, you find out how much
they're being paid, and you give them where you don't
give them. The days are gone when you have to
write all the emails or not emails, text messages and
handwritten notes and talking to the player's girlfriends, his aunt.
You know, the high school social studies teacher, the assistant

(12:56):
strength coach is going to help you getting in in
the school. That's all gone. So it's a much different
You know, if there was a time for coach Belichick
to go to college, it's now, I would say ten
years ago, five years ago. It would be a real
struggle because it's just something he's never done. It's probably
something he's not very comfortable in. What you just said. Yeah,

(13:17):
you're on the road in those high schools. You don't
do that now. So it's simply how much is it? Armaccoon?
Colin Coward, I call you up, say, Colin, how much
is it going to cost for you to come to
North Carolina? You and your agent tell me your number,
and we either go or we don't go.

Speaker 1 (13:34):
And by the way, I'm not cheap. I've got very
good hands. I'm not cheap. Okay, pretty gray.

Speaker 2 (13:42):
Here, I might have recruited you tell now.

Speaker 1 (13:45):
So listen, I've been wrong more than a few times.
I thought Lincoln Riley at USC would work. But there
is a difference between being schematically very smart and building
a program. And I've always said USC California high school
players a lot of quarterbacks, receivers and corners. You guys,
sometimes you got to leave the state to get great lineman.

(14:07):
He doesn't appear to love recruiting. He lost a lot
of good players in the transfer portal. Is it possible
I just missed on it. I'm just it's not gonna work.
I mean, they're freaking out out here. What do you
make of their situation right now?

Speaker 2 (14:24):
I just worry. I like Lincoln Riley. He's always been
very good to me. I coached against him one of
his early games, they beat us when he was a
head coach to Oklahoma. I love his offensive scheme. I'm
saying all the great things because I believe it. It
should work. Here's the problem, Colin. Once you lose momentum,
it's hard to get back. In USC's lost momentum, I

(14:47):
mean they had it when they hired him, and a
lot of energy. They officially have lost momentum in southern California.
What does that mean? Normally it doesn't end well. I'm
going to give him Benetta fitted out because it's not
on his first rodeo. He did a really good job
at Oklahoma. I think you'll get it back. I really do.
But the minute you lose momentum, you got to really

(15:08):
turn up the heat now to get that momentum back.
And that's gotta be You got to get some prize
recruit you got to win some games, because if you
continue to lose momentum, this will end poorly.

Speaker 1 (15:17):
Yeah, so I I guess. I mean, I think I've
kind of said I picked Tennessee to win the Natty
before the season, so uh good, I did. I think
Josh Hipel. I liked them their D line, and they
always have good receivers. I mean they have good backs
and receivers in down years. It's just Tennessee. I don't

(15:40):
know if they can beat Ohio State. So I'd feel
much better if they didn't have to go to Columbus
because I think the buck Eyes are gonna win. But
I am just. I look at Texas and I made
this comment, and tell me I'm wrong. I know they've
got a bunch of great players, but for some reason, offensively,
they got Sark, they have the best left tackle. Why

(16:02):
aren't they scoring more? I don't see juice Ohio State.
I see juice. I see juice with their backs. I
see juice on the perimeter. I watched Texas and I'm like,
seventeen against A and M struggling this week, struggling against Georgia.
Is it just a Georgia thing? Or maybe is Texas
a little overvalued?

Speaker 2 (16:24):
That's great. I actually went back and watched them yesterday
because I'm going to do some commentary on the playoffs
coming up here, and I've been at Texas. You know.
I picked them last year. I picked them again this
year to be right there, and I think they will
be right there. Here's what I think has happened. I
don't see the same creativity I usually see from Sark
and I'm wondering if he's just a game manager now.

(16:46):
That means he has an excellent defense. I love the defense, yes,
I think, yes, obviously one of the best defenses. And
when you have a great defense, you have a tendency
to kind of tighten up and just play to win
the game. I think that's what's happened with Ryan Day
a little. When you when you see your defense just
smothering an opponent, and I've been there, what goes to
your mind is don't lose this damn game, right something

(17:08):
stupid and play to your strengths. Pete. The fans hate it,
but you know what, at the end of the day,
your job is to win that game. That's what I
see when I watch Texas right now. That's what I
see when I see Ohio State right now. I don't
see the creativity. I don't see the balls to the wall,
let it, let it fly. And I'm not disagreeing with it.
I've been there. I've won a lot of games where
you're you know, you just don't feel great about your offense,

(17:30):
and you and you play to the strengths, and that
is do not turn that ball over field, play field
position football, and find a way to win the game.
That's what I see when I watch Texas right now.

Speaker 1 (17:40):
Okay, So you could make the argument, Ryan Day, if
you took out Jim Harbaugh, we would have none of
these big discussions. But Harbaugh is one of the greatest
coaches ever. You lose three straight, then you lose this year,
you're upset. I got to ask the tough question. They
lose to Tennessee. It's good game, it's close. Ohio State
is the only SEC team north that fan base is

(18:01):
I'm sorry, Talk Radio, it's different. I've always said, out
of respect, it's an SEC team in the Big Ten.
Even Michigan. You can lose. You can lose to Ohio State.
Four losses to Michigan first round. If they lost, is
Ryan dan trouble? Do you believe not?

Speaker 2 (18:21):
This year? I think they will not make the change.
They will not do that now. Okay, there's no chance
to do that now. Because Colin, if you made that change,
you lose your roster. You know, you lose. They can't
do that. They can't do that now. I don't believe
they do that now. It would just be that much

(18:42):
more pressure for a coach Day and his staff next
year and they have a tough you know, they open
up with Texas right out of the jump. So no,
I don't believe they'd do it this year. Yeah, I
wouldn't a chance. I wouldn't do it.

Speaker 1 (18:53):
But you know, I see that message board crowd they get,
you know, athletic directors read all that nonsense. It's I
wouldn't do it, but you know, I'm a level headed guy.

Speaker 2 (19:04):
You think you think ads watched the message.

Speaker 1 (19:06):
Well, oh, come on, Urban those guys. Oh, I think
owners listen to talk radio. How ridiculous is that?

Speaker 2 (19:15):
I'm not saying Colin Coward.

Speaker 1 (19:18):
Well again, those takes are pretty solid. Yeah we know that,
all right? Erban Meyer, great seeing you again.

Speaker 2 (19:25):
Yeah, great, Clay Urban Meyer.

Speaker 1 (19:28):
Good stuff. Yeah, I wouldn't. I wouldn't move off Ryan Day.
I think he's good coach.

Speaker 5 (19:31):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (19:32):
You know, it's you know some of this is I
think he hit on it. That Ohio State and Texas
have such good defenses. I mean, I've been watching Texas
all year and my take is, where'd the offense go?

Speaker 2 (19:47):
Now?

Speaker 1 (19:47):
I I think arch Manning Frankly should play more, But
where to go? It's all five star athletes, got the
best left tackle, they always have good against Texas, they
always have tight ends and receivers. So I think I
think Ermin hint on that because I I've been want
like I see Ohio State, I see Juice, I see Oregon,
whoa I see No. Georgia is just limited offensively in

(20:08):
my opinion. But I'm watching Texas the last month and
I'm like, where did it go?

Speaker 6 (20:13):

Speaker 1 (21:20):
I was just thinking of this, Julian Edelman last hour.
I just saw a quote from Dion Sanders says he
has no intention of leaving Colorado. You think he leaves Colorado.
I mean he did small college, smaller college, now it's Colorado.
He said he doesn't want the NFL. If I said,
bet your four oh one K stays at Colorado or

(21:44):
leaves somewhere.

Speaker 3 (21:45):
Well, I wouldn't put my four to one k on
something like that.

Speaker 4 (21:47):
But listen to the words, I have no intention of
leaving Colorado. That's not unstaying if the right job opens up.

Speaker 3 (21:56):
See you, he's gone.

Speaker 4 (21:57):
That's why he used I have no intention to leave.
You still get the recruits, right, recruits are still going
to come in.

Speaker 1 (22:03):
That's good.

Speaker 3 (22:04):
We'll see, we'll see what happens.

Speaker 1 (22:05):
Wording matters. No intention of doing that, Yeah, well I
didn't intend for it. I just got a great offer. Yeah,
it's interesting. J mckle the news, Turn on the news.

Speaker 6 (22:18):
This is the herd Line News.

Speaker 4 (22:21):
Well, we had one big flip of the spread in
the NFL, and that's because Patrick Mahomes showed up at
practice this week and.

Speaker 3 (22:28):
Practiced in full yesterday.

Speaker 2 (22:30):
Call.

Speaker 4 (22:30):
This is a guy who was injured and maybe sitting
out practice at full. Now you drill down a little
bit on this practice report and it's like, okay, this
was like a glorified walk through for the Chiefs because
they're banged up, and Mahome said the ankle is.

Speaker 3 (22:43):
Still bothering him, but returning to practice. Flip this.

Speaker 4 (22:47):
Remember yesterday the Texans were two and a half point favorites.
The Chiefs are now laying a field goal at home
against the Texans.

Speaker 3 (22:55):
This is a big game.

Speaker 1 (22:57):
Yeah, I think Kansas City wins it with the Wentz
or Mahomes with Wentz.

Speaker 2 (23:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (23:03):
I think Carson's on the scale of backups. I think
he's a really strong backup based on what well. I mean,
this is a guy that four or five years ago
was in the MVP race. He's a good athlete or
five years ago, well, again, I'm asking him to be
a back I'm not asking him to be a starter.
I'm just saying as a backup, like Danny Danny Daniel Jones,
as a backup is outstanding. Might have a rule on backups.

(23:27):
If the starters out two games, can you win one?
If the starters out five games, can you win two?
If you can win three out of five, you're probably
a lower end starter. But but but you know it
happens all the time. Starters out for a month, can
you win half the game?

Speaker 3 (23:47):
So Malik Willis comes in for the Packers.

Speaker 1 (23:50):
He's a very but he was a very good backup.
Were not a franchise.

Speaker 3 (23:58):
It worked, they won.

Speaker 4 (24:00):
I'm wondering Reed would have ample time to give an
install to Carson went course.

Speaker 1 (24:04):
Right, Yes, yeah, I think I think Kansas City is
the play I ever won, Principal one to warm Weather
Dome team go to Kansas City.

Speaker 4 (24:13):
Sorry, by the way, have you been checking the weather
on the college football playoff games?

Speaker 1 (24:19):
No? I mean that the Ohio State game.

Speaker 3 (24:21):
Will we talk?

Speaker 1 (24:22):
We're talking about Notre Dame, Indiana. Is it a snowstorm?

Speaker 4 (24:25):
Don't don't bet those games unless unless you've seen the
weather reports. Yes, for sure, So I'm curious with you know,
Kansas City in late December is gonna be chilly for
You're right, the indoor Houston Texans interesting games, probably have
more on that Friday.

Speaker 3 (24:37):
We'll see next up. Oh, it's a Cowboys, Yes, of course. MICHAEH.

Speaker 4 (24:40):
Parsons future in Dallas what We're not gonna call it limbo,
but it's it's deserving of discussion.

Speaker 3 (24:46):
Steven Jones had some comments, and.

Speaker 4 (24:48):
Now Jerry Jones wanted to clarify his son's comments and
how the team feels about their star ed rusher.

Speaker 8 (24:55):
He did not in any way say that Michael Parsons
was at issue. Looking ahead at the future at all,
he did not say that. And and by the way,
I didn't hear what he said. I have not read
what he said, but I know he didn't say that.
So that's never been uttered in this organization that we

(25:19):
don't have the future with Michael Parsons.

Speaker 4 (25:22):
Okay, So all these people listening to the show on
the younger side, right when you're hanging out with your
grandpa at Christmas next week, look at him and think, oh,
that's probably what Jerry Jones is like, because that listen
to that interview, Colin. He's giving a radio interview about
Michael Parsons, who isn't even a free agent or like,

(25:42):
I just I don't understand this at all. This need
for him to talk to the media all the time.

Speaker 1 (25:47):
It's just puzzling. Yeah, well, it great fodder for the show. Well,
Jimmy Johnson, you know, it's funny Jerry didn't do this
the first two to three years when he was building
the business.

Speaker 8 (25:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (25:58):
In fact, the only time he showed up to practice
was at the end of practice when the media showed
up for the cameras, and then Jerry Jones would show
up for the cameras. But when he was building the business.
You didn't see him around doing all these radio interviews,
but at some point Jerry liked talking, and this is
what they are. It's weird. I kind of feel like

(26:18):
I think Cowboy fans a lot of times in our business,
if we don't love a team, the fans are very
critical of us. Like Niner fans can't believe I don't
love brock Purty. It's like, dude, last fourteen games. Look
at the record, look at the numbers, look at him
against the best teams this year. But I think Cowboy
fans have come to a conclusion that this was inevitable

(26:38):
and right now they're dysfunctional. And when you look at
Philadelphia and you look at Dallas, how many cowboys start
now that Zack Martin's banged out, how many cowboys start
for the Eagles, Ceedee Lamb, probably Micah their kicker, and
maybe one of their corners. I mean, there's just not
many cowboys that start for Philadelphia.

Speaker 4 (26:59):
Let's remember this is a t I believe three straight
years they had eleven victories or more. They were in
the playoffs. Like this was a team that was ride
and high. They got old and bad fast.

Speaker 1 (27:09):
To you and you know, just I don't know. I
keep using the Lakers Cowboys bigger brands than reality, but
I feel the same way with the Lakers. I mean,
Dalton connect can't defend Austin Reeves is your second third
best player. Lebron took a week off. He's not the
same like these big brands. I just, I just I

(27:31):
think it's predictable. I think they have both Cowboys and
the Lakers have too many family members in the building.

Speaker 4 (27:36):
Well, the Lakers were extinguished. Was it the lost of
the Nuggets in the playoffs? Was it?

Speaker 8 (27:41):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (27:41):
Yeah, Dallas, that loss to the Packers still inexplicable.

Speaker 3 (27:46):
It feels like everything has gone wrong.

Speaker 1 (27:47):
That was the turning point. Yeah, when they got blown
out at home. That game was over in the second quarter.
That was the moment you had to be honest about
Dak and the Cowboys. We are no longer even in
the cont fringe championship discussion. Forget the bubble for the
Super Bowl. When they got blown out at home, it's like, Okay,
this team is now. This is not a team capable

(28:08):
of winning two playoff games, maybe one at home, not two.

Speaker 3 (28:12):
Just under how quickly they follow the final story.

Speaker 4 (28:15):
Colin is the Detroit Lions and the injuries, Oh, they're mounting.

Speaker 3 (28:20):
It's really ugly.

Speaker 4 (28:20):
I saw they have a NFL high twenty two players
on IR this season.

Speaker 3 (28:24):
Nobody's even close to that.

Speaker 4 (28:26):
David Montgomery is the latest casualty season ending MCL tear. Now,
Jamiir Gibbs has to step up as the workforce back,
and Dan Campbell says he can handle it.

Speaker 1 (28:36):
We got We've got a lot of confidence in Gibbs.

Speaker 9 (28:38):
You know, he's continuing to get better and better as
this season's gone.

Speaker 2 (28:42):
And you know, and when given the opportunities.

Speaker 9 (28:46):
Made a lot of plays. Man, they made some big
plays for us yesterday. You know, he brings the explosive element.
He's getting better in the past game and then you
see what he's able to do on the running game.
So we have a ton of confidence.

Speaker 1 (29:01):
I don't worry about their offense. That part doesn't worry me.
I am deeply worried about defense. What do they have
eighteen guys in the IR.

Speaker 3 (29:10):
I mean it's very difficult.

Speaker 4 (29:11):
I'll say this about Jamiir Gibbs, like I'm not keen
on drafting running backs early.

Speaker 3 (29:15):
This guy's fun, awesome football y.

Speaker 1 (29:17):
Yeah, he is really funny. I mean, and so and
Bjeon Robinson isn't as quite as twitchy as Gibbs.

Speaker 3 (29:23):
But if you put Vjon in the Detroit offense, okay.

Speaker 1 (29:26):
And the other thing is we only get about one
running back drafted in the first round every other year.
Most of them hit. The kid from Boise State would
star behind a D snow line, Saquan hit Z kid.
I think b Jon Robinson is very good in getting better.
I know everybody's very reluctant to draft first round running backs,

(29:48):
but it's that scarcity of great ones that almost ensures
that it works. So I mean, I mean, Kajohn Carter
was gonna be great, he got Penn State guy he
got hurt early in his career. Adrian Peterson first round,
Christian mcca free first round. I mean, most of the
first round running backs feel like they hit to me.

Speaker 4 (30:05):
Now, the one thing about Gibbs is he's like he's
the lightning to Montgomery's thunder. And our staff found a
good stat that Gibbs has twenty five or more touches
just once in twenty nine NFL.

Speaker 1 (30:16):
Caregerra It's not what he is, so he's not.

Speaker 4 (30:19):
Yeah, it's tough now listen, I have him with my
fantasy team.

Speaker 3 (30:21):
He's carried me to the semifinals. I'm every week. This
guy is just explosive as hell.

Speaker 4 (30:26):
I don't know though, if you could, is he a
twenty carry guy and then eight to ten rods if
he's not.

Speaker 1 (30:32):
A twenty carry guy in three or four straight playoff
games and not?

Speaker 3 (30:35):
What it is in no way?

Speaker 4 (30:36):
So I don't know where they I don't know what
they turned to here. It's just stinks, man, because this
Lion's team was fun. You know, as a Jets fan,
we we're out stiff at the playoffs. I was riding
with the Lions. Now I think I have to ride
with the Buffalo Bills.

Speaker 1 (30:49):
I think Philadelphia is going to the super Bowl, and
I only think one team can beat him. Packers, No,
I no, I think Philadelphia is going to the super Bowl.
I think Kansas City and maybe Buffalo could beat him.
If Philadelphia gets to the super Bowl against anybody other
than Mahomes or Allan, it's gonna be ugly. It'll be
a blowout super Bowl. H I still think it's so

(31:13):
great that Baker Mayfield and Sam Arnold and.

Speaker 4 (31:15):
I on Baker Mayfield and those bucks man, I got
some Well I don't want to get your host, don't row.

Speaker 3 (31:20):
And give away all my stuff, but I got something
good for you on the bucks later this week.

Speaker 1 (31:24):

Speaker 6 (31:26):

Speaker 2 (32:04):
All right.

Speaker 1 (32:05):
By the way, I watched first twelve minutes of a
Enigma on Netflix with Aaron Rodgers documentary. I'm not gonna
spend a lot of time on this kind of memo
to Hollywood people and pro athletes. I'm generally not that
interested in your journeys. I'm interested in your movies and
your games. Michael Jordan was different. He's very private. There
was a lot about Michael Jordan I didn't know, so

(32:26):
that was fascinating. With Aaron, I've seen his feet, so basically,
you know, my take is he turned in his playbook
for a summer and picked up some shrooms. I don't
know if that's a journey or a midlife crisis. I mean,
he went to Berkeley. He's probably the last guy in
his graduating class that took shrooms. I don't I didn't
know what to make of it. Like again, self exploration,

(32:49):
I'm happy for people who do it. It doesn't necessarily
fascinate me. You know, he got high, you know, and
was having a good time. It is what it is.
I don't I like when people overcome obstacles. I do
feel and I think I'm being fair here. Aaron has
created some of his own obstacles.

Speaker 5 (33:07):
You know.

Speaker 1 (33:07):
With Michael Jordan, there's the death of his father. He
was so big iconically that he just retired the pressure.
He came back, he tried baseball. There were the Rodman years.
He didn't get along with the general manager. There was
a lot. I never felt like like Michael created the
obstacles and also there's timing. Michael is kind of mythical.
Aaron's still playing. He's not very good, and if the

(33:31):
team was great, it would be more interesting it. I
think you should probably watch it. It didn't move me,
and the people who did it are very talented, but
I tried twice to watch it, and I don't know
what to say. I think Ian O'Connor's book All the
Background I wanted that was fascinating. I would read that
Into the Darkness with Aaron Rodgers by E. O'Connor. That's

(33:52):
fascinating book. I tend to like documentaries and books on athletes,
but I feel like aaron story has been told. The
difficulty with his parents, I get it, Like not everybody
gets along with mom and dad, Like I get it.
I have sympathy for it. But you know, watch it.
I tried it didn't it didn't work for me, so
I thought it was interesting. Urban Meyer. So starting Friday,

(34:13):
Notre Dame hosting Indiana. Weather's a huge issue this weekend
in college football. So these warm weather teams like Tennessee
going to playing Columbus. I just don't play in that weather.
I think for years and years, Big ten teams complain
they had to go down closer to SEC school, so
the fans, you know, all had to travel. I think
the SEC warm weather teams going cold could be interesting.

(34:35):
I do like Ohio State to win, although I picked
Tennessee to win the Natty. But if it was played
in down South in Knoxville, I would take the upset,
I would take I would take the balls. It was interesting.
I just don't I have questions about Belichick working in college.
I thought it was interesting that urban Meyer said earlier

(34:58):
on this show it actually may be easier for urban
Meyer in college. Now.

Speaker 2 (35:06):
I know coach very well, went to many times up
to the Patriots, and what amazed me was how smart
he was and he adapts and he can get things done.
It's a much different game that me and you knew.
The days are gone when you have to write all
the emails that are not emails, text messages and handwritten
notes and talking to the player's girlfriends as aunts. You know,

(35:26):
the high school social studies teacher, the assistance strength coach
is going to help you get it in in the school.

Speaker 1 (35:33):
That's all gone.

Speaker 2 (35:34):
So it's a much different You know, if there was
a time for coach Belichick to go to college. It's now,
I would say ten years ago, five years ago, it
would be a real struggle because it's just something he's
never done.

Speaker 1 (35:48):
Yeah, it's an interesting perspective. What's really going to be
fascinating And we will probably hear this story trickle out.
When Charlie Weiss, NFL guy kind of rough around the edges,
went to Notre Dame, didn't have a transfer portal. Charlie
wore people out his personality. It's it is what it is.

(36:10):
I think he's a nice guy, but it was rough
and Mike Lombardi and Belichick, they'll probably bring like a
Joe Judge in and a Matt Patricia. Those are NFL guys,
and that that this is going to be a strictly
NFL model. So I don't know how that's gonna work
in an athletic department. I still contend Belichick wanted a
pro football job and they turned their eye to him.

(36:32):
So you know, somebody's gonna pay a bunch of money.

Speaker 2 (36:33):
Why not.

Speaker 6 (36:35):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (36:35):
We'll see how it works. I just it's not that
he can't coach. It's not that the portal won't work.
It's that you gotta do a lot of glad handing
in the college game. You know Mark Rick, the former
Hurricanes and Georgia coach. I asked him once about recruiting,
and I was actually at the other place and I

(36:57):
was in the hallway, and he was he was gonna
come on later, and I shown during a break, I
went over and talked to him and I said, you're
a great recruiter. What's the secret? And I never forget this.
Mark Rick said, you just got to show him more
love than the last coach. That doesn't feel like something
Belichick would pivot to easily. And even today, even though

(37:18):
it's paying, that's a sign of love. You have to
show love. I don't know. I'm interested the other thing.
So that urban Meyer sort of changed my perspective on it.
He thinks it's easier now. I thought Danny Parkins did
a really good job an hour ago. So I think
Mike Rabel's the guy I would hire in Chicago. I
think it's the guy that works. But I thought Danny

(37:39):
Parkins had an interesting perspective on why Joe Brady, who's
never been a head coach even at high school, maybe
he's getting mentioned. Maybe a better fit.

Speaker 10 (37:54):
I think that this was I want to coach in
the NFL. Only one team showed interest last year. It
was Atlanta. I lost out on that to Raheem Morris,
is anyone is any NFL team going to give him
the power and the control that he craves. I want
him in the NFL. I think he should be in
the NFL. I think it's way more interesting.

Speaker 1 (38:14):
Yeah, that wasn't done. But I think one of the
things he also talked about is that if you look
at Vrabel how it ended in Chicago, there was a
bit of a power struggle, and that is true. There
was a big power struggle and Rabel's gonna want control. Well,

(38:34):
Kevin Warren, I don't think the guy that wants to
relinquish that. And so that this was an issue with
Belichick in New England. What happens to a lot of
these coaches. Coaches make a lot more money than general managers. Right,
So in the room, when the coach walks in, outside
of the quarterback, he's the biggest star in the building.
Quarterback one coach too. I mean, you're Sean mcdermots. They're

(38:54):
making eight nine, ten million up outside of Josh Allen.
They have the most power and so hampens is Vrabel's
making a lot of money. The GM is making one
third of it. Rabel's popular, he's winning, the fans like him,
and he wants more say in personnel. And in Tennessee
it went sideways. That's what happened to Belichick. By the way,
happened to Pete, Carolyn Seattle, Paul Allen died. There was

(39:17):
a leadership vacuum. Pete wanted more control. John Sneyder the
GM very smart that I'm out of here, I'm going
to Detroit. They brought him back. He took control of
the drafts, and the Seahawks hit back to back great
drafts when John Sneyder was again controlling them. So this
is a power struggle. And I've talked to guys in
this league. I've talked to gms in the league. Howie
Roseman in Philadelphia is one of the only GMS in

(39:41):
the league. He may be the only one who has
the most power in the building. Howie Roseman's got way
more power than Nick Sirianni and even the other really
really good GMS coaches. The star owner pulls all the strings.
So caught in the middle from crazy impulsive owner and

(40:03):
rock star head coach now Brett Veach is lucky in
Kansas City because Andy Reid doesn't want to deal with
all that personnel. He's gonna do what he's gonna do.
But GM is you can't major in it in college.
Chris Ballard's got an impulsive owner, My buddy Tom's Alesco's
got Mark Davis. It's hard, and so Howie Roseman's it.
He has all the control. So if you go to Chicago,

(40:25):
I think what I've been told, and I talked to
Mike about this, it's a little bit who's pulling all
the strings here? I know I'm not the owner, but
do I have to deal with a president energy who's
controlling stuff? Because Rabel's sensitive to that because he lost
that in Tennessee. He had a power struggle. They started
losing games. He lost some of that and so he's

(40:46):
sensitive to it. It's like Bill Belichick. You know Bill Belichick.

Speaker 8 (40:50):
You know.

Speaker 1 (40:52):
There are certain things he wants and he wants control.
Pete Carroll wanted control, you know, like Mike Tomlin, he
has a say. But basically the Steelers are so good
at drafting and developing. Same with Matt Lafleur. Matt Lafluor
and Tomlin. They get a say. But the front offices
of those organizations, Packers and Steelers do a very good

(41:13):
job in drafting and developing, so you trust them. Yeah,
mcveigh's got the control over Lesnie McVeigh makes the ultimate
call that part. I mean, Les Sneed's got a great staff.
But if Sean wants something, Sean's getting something, all right,
Julian Edelman will stop by an hour number three. It
is interesting though, Gronk and Edelman and Brady have all

(41:34):
sort of sort of said, yeah, I don't know if
this is gonna work in college. Like I will say
this for Belichick, he's got a lot of doubters, even
people he was close to. You got a lot of doubters.
J Max got him in the Natty next year, so
that's a whole different ballgame.

Speaker 4 (41:47):
I can't wait to see Edelman here, and whenever he
comes by, Belichick's going to the playoff next year.

Speaker 1 (41:52):
Lock it up, coward.

Speaker 3 (41:53):
I got my college college football picks in, you got
yours in.

Speaker 1 (41:57):
