Speaker 1 (00:24):
Albert Breer, Senior NFL reporter Monday Morning Quarterback, is joining us.
Let's get right to it. So there's the story out
there that the Cowboys were caught a little off guard
with a Mike McCarthy departure. And I theorized this a
couple of days ago, Albert that I think once he
got Don ye as an agent and Mike Rabel went
to the Patriots, that McCarthy viewed himself as did Don Yee,
(00:49):
as the best candidate, and I think he may be,
and I think they had a little leverage. And he
looked at Dak's contract, he looked at the running back
room and went he went NASA. He went NAST for
five years guaranteed. And Jerry's like, whoa wha, wha, whoa, whoa,
whoa whoa Jerry from land Man said, no, I'm a
wild catter. I'm not giving you that. And then Mike,
I think Mike McCarthy knew that with Dak's contract on
(01:12):
that running back room and whipping on the last two
first round picks a little bit, Albert, Dallas may be
a tough place to win. Is that possible?
Speaker 3 (01:22):
Yeah, I hear you on that. I think this is
actually a little bit more deep seated. And I do
wonder if if Jerry Jones has been whistling by the
graveyard on this for a while. I go back to
the summer, and I got the sense back then that
Mike was really kind of, you know, i'd say, not
happy with the fact that he had to go through
(01:43):
the situation that he was being put through where it's
very unusual to be in a contract year as a
head coach. But not only that, like all of his
assistant coaches were also in contract years. So everyone in
the building effectively, or at least on his side of
the building, is you know, going through the season with.
Speaker 4 (02:01):
This hanging over their heads.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
And that was certainly reflected in the way on the
days after the season we're handled.
Speaker 4 (02:08):
There was no negotiation.
Speaker 3 (02:10):
It never really got to that point and you know,
I think what Mike McCarthy was looking at was like,
how do I want to live out the rest of
my days as a coach? And you know, I don't
think he was interested in going back into a situation
after he just went through that year where he was
going to be year to year again. So if they
were going to do it two or a three year deal,
(02:30):
I don't think that was interesting. I don't think that
was of interest to Mike. You know, I think, you know,
he wanted to be in a place where, you know,
he would be able to build going forward. So, you know,
I think the opportunity out there in Chicago, the opportunity
out there in New Orleans where he knows Mickey Lomis,
by the way, like those two worked together for five
years when McCarthy was Jim Haslet's offensive coordinated from.
Speaker 4 (02:52):
Two thousand to two thousand and four.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
You know, I think you look at the landscape a
little bit and you say to yourself, like, there's a
better opportunity to build somewhere out like why didn't I
do that?
Speaker 4 (03:01):
I think part of it.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
Too, Colin, is just maybe the Cowboys having a little
bit of an inflative view of themselves.
Speaker 4 (03:07):
And their job. You know it's well, who wouldn't want
to coach America's team?
Speaker 3 (03:11):
Well, if you're not willing to make the long term commitment,
Mike McCarthy wouldn't want to.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
Do Yeah, J Mac, that's did J Mack and Ryan
kind of feel that maybe that got a little over
their skis. And I've said this before, it's a bad
running back room. They have one weapon. I would move
off Mica get another first round pick in a week draft.
I think you could get that and go, get go,
get like two offensive weapons. I just don't think in
a world of Philly and Detroit and the Rams in
(03:36):
Green Bay and Washington, I don't think they have enough firepower.
And we don't know what Dak's gonna look like off
a second injury. Now I'm gonna throw something.
Speaker 3 (03:44):
Thing's really interesting, just really quick. The market thing is
definitely worth monitoring. He's gonna be looking for I mean,
I think he's gonna be looking for forty million dollars
to So how they handle that, I think it's gonna
be one of the key subplus they're offseason.
Speaker 4 (03:55):
No matter who's the coach.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
That was a that would be a little bit of
a gut punch. You think they're top heavy, Now, okay,
I'm gonna throw this at you. Ohio State's got fourteen
to five star guys. Notre Dame's got one. That's fewer
than Kentucky football. I said this when you know this well,
Sean McVay, thirty years old, goes and interviews in la
and Stan Cronky's like, we're not letting them out of
(04:17):
the building. This kid is magic, and he did. He
took four and twelve to eleven wins, thirty second ranked
offense to number one golf was zero and seven golf
All of a sudden was a playoff quarterback. If Marcus
Freeman and Notre Dame win or put on a classic
twenty four to twenty three, Ohio State clearly has a
(04:37):
huge advantage in talent and skill. What about the Bears?
Going okay, McCarthy, Ben Johnson leader in the clubhouse? Are
we looking at in Marcus Freeman? They should not be
in this game. Penn State's got more good players. Texas does,
Georgia does, Oregon does? Does Freeman have a shot in Chicago?
Speaker 3 (05:00):
I know they've kicked it around, would they actually do it?
I don't think so, I'm not sure that they feel
like that's what they need right now. And I think
mainly because they really would be looking for somebody who,
if it's not an offensive coach, it's somebody of a
coherent plan for the quarterback, somebody who's gonna bring in
somebody experience to work with the quarterback, and somebody who's
(05:22):
gonna have a plan beyond just.
Speaker 4 (05:24):
Who the first coach might be.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
So you know, like if you're going to lose your
offensive coordinator, say after two or three years, because Caleb
really kills it, okay, like how deep's you're well of
NFL context where you'll be able to.
Speaker 4 (05:36):
Replace And that's what I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
So yeah, I mean I think they started the bear
started with the leader of men thing, which Marcus Freeman
one fits.
Speaker 4 (05:45):
But as they went.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
Through the last five six weeks of the season with
Thomas Brown as the interim coach, and they watched how
Caleb's play in development suffered over the last month of
the season because you know, they had a head coach
who was also the offensive coordinator stretched a little thin.
You know, I think they kind of came to the realization, Okay,
like we still want a leader of men. We still
want somebody who can coach all fifty three and who
(06:08):
can affect all fifty three and who can change the
culture in our building. But we also need to have
a really solid plan for the quarterback as a part
of that. So, you know, in a perfect world, they
killed two birds with one stone, and they wind up
getting somebody.
Speaker 4 (06:22):
Who is who was that guy who can be both?
Speaker 3 (06:25):
You know, I just I look at Marcus Freeman as
somebody who really intrigued them at the beginning. But maybe
as they've gone through this process, you look at it
and you need a very defined plan for the quarterback.
And I don't know, in fairness of Marcus Freeman, after
you know, the experience that he's had, that he'd be.
Speaker 4 (06:40):
Able to do that at the NFL level.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
Yet I think he's a bright coaching prospect for the
NFL to look at over the next few years.
Speaker 4 (06:47):
I just don't know that Chicago's a spot.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
Yeah, you know, Raiders are funny. It does appear they
don't have a GM and a coach or staff that
Brady's got influence. How much Tom has I don't know,
but he's got some which would lead me to believe
he would like an offensive guy. That would be my guest.
My guest is my guests. I don't know Tom well
(07:09):
enough to have a big strong opinion, but Ben Johnson
would probably my guest be now that Vrabel's off the board,
ye would be his number one choice. That's how I
think Brady would see the world because he and Josh
McDaniels were so close, right, you buy that.
Speaker 3 (07:24):
I agree it, I agree, you know, And they had
to convince him to come in. You know, I I
think I said this to you, to you back in
November December, where Ben was going to approach this coaching
cycle differently than he has the last couple, where he
wasn't going to take any interview where he didn't think
like I eventually would accept that job. And so like
there were teams involved where you know, like he said, like,
(07:46):
you know, like his camp would say to the team like, hey,
look like don't even put in a request.
Speaker 4 (07:50):
We don't want to have.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
To turn you down. We don't want to embarrass you.
And the Raiders initially were one of those teams. And
over time, the you know, like the Raiders you know,
wound up deciding okay, like we're going to put a
request and they put a request in Ben's can't ask
why Tom Brady makes a phone call and you know,
all of a sudden, I think, you know, Ben Johnson
(08:12):
is looking at that Raider job differently.
Speaker 4 (08:14):
Now why Well, one, you know, one.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
Of the messages that's kind of come across is that
Tom Brady's not going to put his name on something
that's embarrassing or a clown show, and so like that
is is is one thing that you say, Okay, like
Tom Brady's going to have some level of influence here.
There's also Tom Brady is kind of the front man
for some of the other partners.
Speaker 4 (08:34):
Egan Durbin is the CEO of Silver Lake.
Speaker 3 (08:36):
He bought seven and a half percent of the team
that was approved back in December. You know, they Tom
Wagner is Tom Brady's partner. They're going to be more
resources there and so that that's part of it as well. Now,
is Brady going to be there day to day? No,
you know, he lives in Florida, his kids are there.
He's obviously got other commitments, but certainly he's gonna have
an influence.
Speaker 4 (08:56):
And yah, I think that the message that's sort of.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
Been imparted on I'm Ben and all the other candidates.
Is this is a different version of the Raiders that
you're going to be walking into and you don't have
to worry about some of the things that past Raider
coaches and gms have had to worry about, which I
think is why Ben is interested in this job and
why Ben did a one eighty on this job. And
you know, I think they're definitely in play right there
with the Jaguars and the Bears. I don't know that
(09:19):
Ben's made any decision on which one he likes more
than the next. Hasn't met with any of these people
in person yet, obviously, but the Raiders have put something
intriguing in front of him and a lot of other
people that looks a lot different than you know, what
you would.
Speaker 4 (09:34):
Have thought of the Raiders over the last fifteen or
twenty years.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
in newon Eastern not a em Pacific, on Fox Sports
Radio FS one and the iHeartRadio apps.
Speaker 1 (09:45):
Well, I could ask you one or two questions, but
I'm not going to ask you about the Steelers quarterback
because they don't know what they're doing. And I think
they want to be patient. That's their history. So I'm
going to ask you about the Jets. You know they're
selling on the market. They're selling we gave Solid five years,
Joe Douglas six years or whatever is we are patient.
We're not the Raiders, we're not the Bears whatever. I
do think there's the Aaron Rodgers issue, but I don't
(10:07):
think that's as big an issue because Aaron's arguably in
his last year and has clearly lost the power that
he had. In fact, I think Aaron's camp has come
out and said if it's not the right coach in GM,
I'm not staying a Will anybody hire a coach that?
I don't know why. I think it's going to be
the Saints or the Jets this weekend? Will anybody make
a move this weekend? Because of the playoff games? The
(10:30):
league would prefer you wait until next week and your
thoughts on are the Jets going to make a move quickly?
Speaker 4 (10:38):
So I would say I would be on watch for
the Titans.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
To name a GM would probably be the next shoe
to drop far as coaches go, I think teams are
going to wait to do the in person stuff next week,
which you can start to do the in person stuff
on Monday. I believe it is as soon as the
divisional round is over. Look, you know, I think with
the Jets have sort of offered guys is like, look like,
(11:03):
whoever we pick, whether it's a GM or a coach,
we're going to give you the opportunity to build this
in your own image.
Speaker 4 (11:09):
So they've left it open.
Speaker 3 (11:10):
They haven't said we're hiring one before the other, and
they're going to decide, okay, like here's the person we
want as the leader of our organization. Then that person
is going to help pick his partner and then those
two are going.
Speaker 4 (11:21):
To go to work.
Speaker 3 (11:22):
And so you know, for some of the guys in
the running, like I think Aaron Glenn's got a really
good shot at that job. And I think Aaron Glenn's
going to be a head coach somewhere. So you know,
Aaron Glenn, if he comes in, who does he bring
with him? Is it somebody like Ray Agnew from Detroit,
like Alance Newmark from from from from Washington who was
in Detroit with him, one of the guys in New Orleans, Like,
(11:44):
I think that's certainly possibility. Do they bring in somebody
who's more experienced, like an Arthur Smith, Like who would
Arthur Smith bring with him as a GM or do
they go to the GM route If Tennessee doesn't hire
Mike Borganzi from Kansas City, does Mike Borganzi come in
as the general manager?
Speaker 4 (11:59):
Does Matt Naggi come with him as the coach?
Speaker 3 (12:02):
I think, you know, like I think whatever they do,
it's going to be based on what based on one person.
They'll bring in one person, whether it's a coach or GM,
and then build around that person. And I think that
that's the appeal of the job. You look at it,
take the quarterback out of it. We know Aaron's on
you know, on seventeen or eighteen right now when it
comes to his career right not just in the back nine.
(12:23):
So you look at it and you say, Okay, Garrett Wilson,
Sauce Gardner, Quentin Williams Quincy, williams Olufashanu, Brece Hall, Like
they've got the core of a pretty good team, Jermaine Johnson,
a pretty good young team there if you can get
some of the key positions filled out. So they do
have something to sell there. Now, what you have to
wrap your head around is ownership. But you know, I
(12:45):
do think next week, at some point they will pick
either a head coach or general manager and.
Speaker 4 (12:49):
Build out from there. It wouldn't surprise me if that
guy was Aaron.
Speaker 1 (12:52):
Glenn Albert Breer as always Monday morning quarterback. Good luck
to you and the Buckeyes. My friend. I see that
helmet back there. That's that's not Notre Dame helmet.
Speaker 4 (13:01):
That's I'll get it for you. See see how the
buck that leaves on? I see that.
Speaker 1 (13:06):
Good seeing him, man, good to see it. Colin, all right,
j Mac with the news.
Speaker 2 (13:15):
Turn on the news. This is the herd Line news.
Speaker 5 (13:19):
Wereer looks so relaxed. He's not nervous about the Ohio
State game at all.
Speaker 1 (13:22):
No, they're eight and a half point favor they are.
Speaker 6 (13:24):
We'll talk about him here shortly. All right, let's get
started with the Texans.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
Colin.
Speaker 6 (13:28):
This kind of came out of nowhere, so they're already
walking wounded. No, Tank Dell knows, te Von Diggs and
now Joe mix It mispracticed yesterday with an ankle injury,
and all of a sudden he's questionable. That is kind
of a game changer.
Speaker 5 (13:41):
Not great news.
Speaker 6 (13:43):
I did see some Houston fans trying to spin this, says, hey,
now Floyd can't just run mixing into the line of
scrimmage on first and ten like he does all the time.
Speaker 5 (13:51):
Maybe they'll get creative and go more passing heavy.
Speaker 6 (13:54):
I don't know. Texans were two and one without mixing
the season. Did beat the Bills twenty three twenty That
was a whacky game. Allan was kind of concussed, But
wasn't you know one of those deals?
Speaker 5 (14:04):
All right, what do you make of this mixin injury?
Speaker 4 (14:06):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (14:06):
I think it's a death now. I think I think
Chiefs are gonna win without those two receivers and mix in,
they'll get blown out. Everything tells me Kansas City, he
wins comfortable, He's.
Speaker 5 (14:15):
Load up on Nico Collins and say, like, all right,
who else is?
Speaker 1 (14:17):
And they have a number one corner, so this will
just load up on him and c J. Good luck
in twenty one degree weather.
Speaker 6 (14:23):
I know we have a Houston Texans fan on staff.
Maybe Doltan Schultz. Pops has a big game.
Speaker 1 (14:28):
Pops, is that possibly five catches? You better really? I
get it real quick?
Speaker 6 (14:33):
Oh my goodness, all right, let's move on to the Vikings.
Now you were hot for this Sam Darnold could stay
in Minnesota story.
Speaker 1 (14:39):
But well not anymore.
Speaker 6 (14:41):
Yeah, that was before the end of the season for
Sammy d did not go well. JJ McCarthy waiting in
the wings, and Minnesota has the decision to make their
GM believes if they do turn to JJ McCarthy they'll
do so confident.
Speaker 4 (14:55):
He looks great, he's excited.
Speaker 7 (14:57):
You know, you talked about a kid who's just obsessed
with football and loves being around the game. So we're
excited about what we have in him. We're excited for
this offseason for him. It's a big offseason. And then
you know, we'll continue from there. I can't sit here
and tell you I know anything for certain. I know
that I'm willing to believe in the person that we have.
That position is about talent and preparation, and he's got
(15:19):
those things in space, and so if that's the course
of action, we decide, we'll go there.
Speaker 1 (15:23):
Confidently they're gonna get JJ McCarthy, They're going to let
Sam go, and my guess is the Titans will strongly
consider Sam Darnold and the Colts.
Speaker 5 (15:34):
A team with the number one pick.
Speaker 1 (15:37):
If you don't love the quarterback. I meant, well, I
think the Colts will make a run. I think Seattle
will kick the tires. I think Tennessee will look at Donald. Now,
now if you can get the right number, now you
can say cam Ward. But they tried Will Levis and
they tried Malice will love.
Speaker 5 (15:52):
Us the second round?
Speaker 1 (15:53):
Well, I mean they've they've gone back to you know,
they've gone here in the last several years with quarterbacks.
None of them worked. And this is not a great
quarterback lass. How about this on Tennessee. I get Donald,
I moved down and get six extra picks.
Speaker 5 (16:05):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (16:05):
If you get sick, well you're gonna get You're gonna
get something. You have to consider that Sam Donald will
be better as a rookie, I would guess than the
rookie quarterbacks. And by the way, if Callahan has another
bad year, how many years does he get he wants
to win?
Speaker 6 (16:17):
Can you imagine Callahan going from Joe Burrow in Cincinnati
to Will Levis?
Speaker 1 (16:22):
Well, yeah, but then getting Sam Donald, who's somewhere in between.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (16:26):
If Callahan doesn't win next year, how do you know
the Titans aren't moving off him.
Speaker 5 (16:30):
They could.
Speaker 1 (16:31):
They could certainly be Sam Donald. If I moved down
Let's say, and I don't have to move down a ton.
Let's say the Giants come up. I moved down four
spots and I get a two and a three and
next year of four. Well, those are starters for Tennessee.
Speaker 5 (16:45):
Okay, let me push back on Donald.
Speaker 2 (16:46):
Gosh.
Speaker 5 (16:47):
I hate doing this because I liked him when he
was drafted by the Jets.
Speaker 4 (16:49):
That sounds like that.
Speaker 6 (16:50):
So now you go from an indoor setting with one
of the best play.
Speaker 1 (16:52):
Callers, a warm weather southern setting.
Speaker 5 (16:55):
Tennessee's warm weather nash a lot of cold weather games there.
Wo have you been in nas Vegas lately?
Speaker 1 (17:00):
Nash Vegas is great. My daughter made me moving there.
She got a job, and I told her, you got
nice spring fall, a little hot in the summer. Your
winners aren't brutally get a little snow once in a while.
Speaker 6 (17:11):
In November December, he's gonna be playing cool weather games,
not in the finer confines to the dome.
Speaker 1 (17:15):
That's a pretty good point, because if Darnald's quarterback, you'll
be playing in February. Oh sorry, let's just move.
Speaker 5 (17:20):
On from there.
Speaker 6 (17:21):
Let's get to the NBA column, this story has been
kind of percolating for a little while. Jimmy Butler was
suspended by the Heat for seven games following his trade
request and some mom just not great behavior. Butler's been
very unhappy made it clear he wants to be traded
by the deadline. According to Ramona Shelbourne, there is palpable
dread ahead of Butler's return tonight against the Denver Nuggets,
(17:45):
doting that sources have told her within the locker room
that people are weary of the ongoing drama. I just
got to say, we haven't talked about this much. I'm
the huge I'm one of the biggest Jimmy Butler fans
out there. His story from where he came from and
coming to the did juco ranks.
Speaker 5 (18:00):
Nobody wanted to use no longer.
Speaker 1 (18:02):
I mean, I'm not signing them to a long term contract.
Speaker 5 (18:05):
This behavior from him just sucks.
Speaker 1 (18:07):
Well, but part Riley's basically saying, listen, you were great,
it was fun. It's over. I totally agree with pat Riley,
and I like Jimmy Butler. Yeah, but Jimmy Butler in
his prime, he plays so hard, so physical.
Speaker 5 (18:19):
He came to the finals, not by himself, but pretty much.
Speaker 1 (18:22):
And that was the ceiling. But he breaks down, and
so pat Riley's right, I'm not giving him a long
term deal. I can like a player but not want
to give him a zillion dollars. I like Sam Darnold,
I'm not giving him a fifty million.
Speaker 6 (18:32):
Well, from his point of view, it's like I've still
got some great years left. I just don't want to
do it here. Well, we're not winning anything, and I mean,
you know these NBA stars, it's been a couple of
years since we've had one of these, like totally disgruntled guys.
Speaker 5 (18:46):
Let me ask you.
Speaker 6 (18:46):
Steph Curry came out and said, m we should keep
our powder dry.
Speaker 5 (18:49):
Let's wait for the offseason.
Speaker 6 (18:51):
You think Curry would, I mean, can you imagine Draymond
and Jimmy Butler, that's as tough as nails front line
a little underside.
Speaker 1 (18:57):
It would make them better, it would not make them
a champion. Listen there, if you watch Cleveland play ok
C play Boston play, they feel different and you're you're
Dallas Mavericks.
Speaker 6 (19:09):
Well, those are great regular season teams that haven't won anything.
So they're fired up about games.
Speaker 1 (19:13):
The Warriors basically win if Steph is great, and don't
win if he's not great. And so, Butler's not a
natural score, but he is a He's a two way
player you can get. I don't know what he averages
a night, but he's a good player. And I think
they want to move off that Wiggins contract. Is a
Wiggins in the last year of his deal.
Speaker 6 (19:30):
I'm not sure, but it's like, yeah, I don't think
the heat clamoring for a you know, Wiggins.
Speaker 1 (19:35):
Well, they want an expiring If I was gonna say,
if it wasn't expiring, yeah, that.
Speaker 5 (19:38):
Would be more attractive.
Speaker 6 (19:39):
But you know, I just did Jimmy Butler stuff is tough, man,
because I'm just telling you his story.
Speaker 1 (19:44):
This guy's Did you see Steph Curry's quote last week
he said, let's not do anything that sacrifices the future
of the team. That was Steph Curry saying not interested.
That's what I felt Steph was saying, not really interested
in the Jimmy Butler deal. Giving you six.
Speaker 6 (19:57):
Picks, Yeah, take it out coming and your guy Pods.
Speaker 1 (20:02):
I like Pods, I like com I like them both.
Speaker 5 (20:05):
They're also like what eleventh in the.
Speaker 1 (20:07):
World Wiggans under contract through twenty twenty six, so you'd
have to Miami. You'd have to pay him this year.
Speaker 5 (20:12):
That bad.
Speaker 1 (20:12):
I don't think Steph Curry wants. I think when Steph
Curry said publicly, let's not sacrifice our future, he was
letting the front office know and the fans know. I'm
not really in a I'm not really in the Jimmy Butler.
That's what I felt.
Speaker 5 (20:27):
That's that's a good take.
Speaker 1 (20:29):
Hey, but this is hot, this is you take happy hour. Listen,
we're kind of we're trying hot take happy hour this hour.
Speaker 5 (20:36):
No, thanks for letting me know.
Speaker 1 (20:40):
We'll be done because I got another take.
Speaker 5 (20:42):
Well, fire fire, go ahead, I'll take happy.
Speaker 1 (20:44):
I'm gonna do herd Okay, that's herd line news. We'll
wrap it up.
Speaker 2 (20:48):
Well, that's the news, and thanks for stopping by the lost.
Speaker 1 (20:52):
Apparently, when I said yesterday, if you like Shador Sanders
and you're the Pittsburgh Steelers, and where are they draft him?
Like twentieth, give up t J Watt, George Pickens a
couple of first round draft picks and get Shudoor Sanders,
I said, if your scouts like him, I don't know
if they do. But all these Pittsburgh fans are like,
head is outrageous. Okay, you do what you're doing and
bring back Justin Fields. All right, bro, go for it.
(21:16):
How's that working for you? Offensively? What was your last
playoff win?
Speaker 4 (21:21):
Okay?
Speaker 1 (21:21):
Because Kansas City and Baltimore and Green Bay they're taking
big swings on quarterbacks. The idea that it's outrageous you
really want George Pickens around TJ wats great, but gets
hurt two first round picks if Shador Sanders can play
or cam Moart and you can only give up two
first round picks. I have pain in the bot and
an aging star. You. Oh my bad. You do what
(21:44):
you're doing. How many playoff wins in eight years? I
couldn't hear you a zero? Okay, folks want to stay
in your hometown, never move, never take a swing. I
don't have problem with it. But don't complain. When the
kids that went to college left came back. You are
doing better. Like you get this idea that that was
a wacky opinion. What's wacky is your offense? Once again,
(22:08):
it's embarrassing. How do you think you're gonna move from
whatever you are in the draft? Twenty one. How you
think you're gonna get to number four. You're not gonna
give anything up. You're gonna have to give up a
couple of first round picks. But the quarterbacks you have now,
you're not beating Burrow and you're not beating Lamar consistently
in Mahomes and Harbaugh and Herbert are getting better, Bonnicks
(22:29):
and Peyton are getting better. What if the Rams move
up and get cam Ward? I mean in the AFC
C J. Stroud, What if the Colts, by the way,
go get Sam Darnold. That would feel like a playoff team.
So the idea that that was some hot take. How
are you gonna get twenty one up the board if
you want a quarterback? And again this all this all
(22:50):
comes down to does your scouting department really like Shador
or cam Ward? But my point was you gotta take
a swing because what you're doing is not working. Basically,
the Steelers are what they were in twenty twenty two
and desperate need of a quarterback and it's a bad
quarterback class, that's what they say. But if your scouch
are like we think, shadur Is is a B plus
aim on his quarterback We'll take a swing. I mean,
(23:13):
you went oh and five down the stretch. You want
to run it back. That's a hot take. We couldn't score,
Let's run it back. That's a hot take, not my
brilliant idea.
Speaker 2 (23:25):

Don't miss your chance to win free cast prizes playing
Fox Super six sponsored by Draft Kings, but any Fox
Sports app to make your picks. One of the questions
is who will have the most receiving yards Cowherd. Who
you got Puka Naku against the Eagles? AJ Brown against
the Rams, a'm Aron Saint Brown against the Commanders or
Terry McLaurin against.
Speaker 1 (24:54):
Detroit Iamaran Saint Brown Commander stacked the box. I like
the Lions receiver to have a big day. WHI NML
Divisional Round is here? Also the Natty on Monday, it
is time to bring former news paperman Jason mcindyry. I
like to call him j Mac. That's how we roll.
Here we go our picks. We like to call this
segment tomorrow's headlines today Texans Chiefs. I got a feeling
(25:21):
where you're gonna go on this.
Speaker 6 (25:22):
That's like you said, favorites have rolled this season. We've
kind of been at the forefront of that getting We
saw it coming, and the big favorites are big. This weekend,
that headline will be lights, camera play action, Xavier Worthy
of an Oscar. I do like the Kansas City Chiefs
here Colin this round, Mahomes has been utterly dominant six
(25:43):
and zero in the division round sixteen.
Speaker 5 (25:45):
Touchdown, zero picks.
Speaker 6 (25:47):
A lot of that has to do with, Hey, we
got a bye week, right, so you get time to prepare,
rest up. And I just want to caution people who
were like, hey, you know the last Chiefs Texans game
was kind of close. Colin Chiefs for only three and
a half point favorites, But people forget ye, Mahomes got
injured the week before. Remember he had to come off
the field against I believe it was the Bucks, and
people were like, oh, he might not play.
Speaker 5 (26:06):
The line was light. They still covered in won.
Speaker 6 (26:09):
I'm just telling you everything here lines up for Kansas City,
Like I can't find one edge that Houston has. Maybe
you could say the defensive pressure from will Anderson and
Hunter coming off the edge.
Speaker 5 (26:21):
But I like the chiefs here all.
Speaker 1 (26:22):
Right, tomorrow's headlines today, I stayed away from this one.
I can see two scenarios. Commanders in the Motor City
against Detroit.
Speaker 6 (26:31):
You know, the audience knows when I say, like the
word lucky, you don't love it.
Speaker 5 (26:36):
I don't like fun. Well, the Washington's lucky, the headline.
Speaker 6 (26:40):
Will be Honolulu Blue Burial Lions Lol. At Daniel's deleted scenes, Listen,
Washington has been lucky. Colin seven wins at the buzzer
or in the final second.
Speaker 5 (26:52):
That's crazy, that's insane.
Speaker 6 (26:53):
And how about this eighty six percent on fourth downs
this season that's unheard of.
Speaker 5 (26:58):
That's like one of the best we've seen this cent.
They have gotten lucky. I know people don't want to
hear it now. I like Daniels a lot.
Speaker 6 (27:04):
I just don't see how Washington stops this Detroit offense.
They're a juggernaut. Yeah, they're coming off the buy. I
know Ben Johnson's been interviewing.
Speaker 1 (27:10):
But they'll have some tricks in the bad you know
off bye. By the way, he's also still flexing because
he wants the best job possible.
Speaker 5 (27:18):
In the best contract.
Speaker 1 (27:19):
Yeah, in the best GM. No, Ben Johnson's gonna flex.
Speaker 5 (27:22):
Now here's the interesting I haven't heard anyone say this week.
Speaker 6 (27:24):
Do you remember Ben Johnson was being flown on the
private jet to Washington for.
Speaker 5 (27:29):
An interview, and mid air he decided the same for me.
Speaker 6 (27:33):
He could have coached Jaden Daniels this season in Washington.
Speaker 5 (27:36):
He could have got the job. Said no. So the
interesting wrinkle. I wonder if Washington plays it up. Hey, Jayden, this.
Speaker 6 (27:42):
Guy didn't want to coach. You show him what he's missing.
Now again, Detroit's defense is beat up. I think Washington
could score. They probably get twenty thirty points. I just
don't see them stopping Detroit. They play one of the
highest rates of man defense. Okay, Jared Goff is the
number one quarterback against man defense in the league by
multiple stats. I think the lines could pick their score.
I have them tied to almost every teaser I've got
(28:03):
this weekend. So if Detroit goes down, if Casey goes down,
I'm gonna be sad. Final Sat Colin underdogs have eight
or more on an zero to.
Speaker 5 (28:10):
Fourteenth streak in the playoffs.
Speaker 6 (28:12):
There has not been a big upset and I think
five or six years.
Speaker 5 (28:15):
So Washington, you gots your work cut out.
Speaker 1 (28:18):
Tomorrow's headlines today Rams at the Eagles. You know I
love Philly.
Speaker 5 (28:23):
I'm looking hard. You know, we like underdogs. We're trying
to find him.
Speaker 6 (28:26):
The headline will me all in mcvain Eagles ruin Rams,
the run of luck. I just keep looking at this game.
You look at the matchups. The only edge I can
find for the Rams is McVeigh over.
Speaker 1 (28:40):
The head coachman, Matt Stafford has struggled on the road
in crappy WEATHERWSE.
Speaker 6 (28:44):
Yeah, he just struggled the Rams offense five outdoor games
in the first half they scored a total of thirty
two points, just slow starts, inclement weather. Now we're hearing
maybe snow. And you look at the Rams tendencies. Are
they gonna come out of what they do? They like
the too high shell. We're not giving up big plays, Okay, sae.
Speaker 5 (29:00):
Quon Barkley will carry twenty five times for one hundred
and fifty yards like Jalen Hurtzel.
Speaker 1 (29:03):
Just carry.
Speaker 5 (29:04):
So I just I don't see a path to victory
for the Rams.
Speaker 6 (29:07):
The one concern would be the Eagles offensive line suddenly
has its worst game of the season versus wrecking things.
Hurts still uncertain from the concussion. And by the way,
he was not sharp against the Packers. Right, his numbers
were kind of down. But I just I don't see
the Rams pulling the upset.
Speaker 5 (29:23):
I'm on the Eagles.
Speaker 1 (29:23):
Here tomorrow's headlines today Ravens and Bills. This is the
biggie everybody's talking about.
Speaker 6 (29:30):
Finally a game that could be good. Everything else could
be a blowout. It's just tough because I like one
team first half and the other team full game.
Speaker 5 (29:37):
Deadline. Well, the shakir tail feather, Raven vonn.
Speaker 6 (29:43):
With the wind, I know, you know that shake your
tail feather. So I went Raven's first half because they're
an awesome star team.
Speaker 5 (29:48):
But Buffalo full game. I'm on Josh Allen.
Speaker 6 (29:50):
So everything McDermott has talked about, he's gonna have to
change the way he does defense.
Speaker 5 (29:55):
Right, But how about this.
Speaker 6 (29:56):
Lamar Jackson's played seven playoff games, five of them he's
been under two hundred yards passing.
Speaker 5 (30:01):
What does Lamar do? He wants to handoff and run
the football?
Speaker 6 (30:03):
Yeah, and now he's got Derrick Henry h Buffalo has
like kind of a light box. They don't have huge
defensive tackles. Yeah, they're gonna have to commit more guys
to the run. And is that gonna work on the
back end? Well, say Flowers is out.
Speaker 5 (30:15):
Are you afraid of Bateman?
Speaker 6 (30:17):
I'll just say Christian Benford lock him up one on one.
You're getting no safety help. I say, we like our
chances and dare Lamar to beat you, because if you
let him and Derrick Henry beat you, they will, you know. So.
I do think McDermott changes tendencies. If he doesn't, I
think Baltimore's going to arrowhead.
Speaker 1 (30:33):
Next to finally, Tomorrow's headlines today, buck Eye's a big favorite,
loaded roster against the fighting Irish Day.
Speaker 5 (30:41):
We're the upsets.
Speaker 6 (30:42):
You gotta have an upset come if somebody, some underdog
has to rise up, the headline will be the great
flats me Buck.
Speaker 5 (30:50):
Eyes and the Gilded Era Ryan Day.
Speaker 6 (30:53):
Look at that art. We got an awesome team in
the back. They're putting up stuff. Sorry, I like Ohio State,
you know, I know they.
Speaker 1 (30:59):
Look the I'm a low scoring game though, no blowout,
low scoring. I just hope Marcus Streamy could keep it close,
you know, like you want a good game. By the way,
I think favorites are five and zero against the spread
in the last five national championship games.
Speaker 5 (31:11):
We just see a lot of blowouts in this spot.
Last year.
Speaker 6 (31:13):
I mean, Michigan ran him out of the building in
the first quarter, right if you remember that game. And
there's a world where Riley Leonard has to win.
Speaker 1 (31:20):
This game for Notre Dame.
Speaker 5 (31:21):
You know you like to call him Josh Allen.
Speaker 6 (31:24):
He's gonna have to put on that cape you see.
I see Josh Allen, well, I see Jack Sawyer coming
off the edge. Jack Sawyer is an awesome player. I
think he's the first round pick, by the way. And
let's see if Jeremiah Smith bounces back.
Speaker 1 (31:36):
Hey, today's talk, Today's Jack Sawyer a mean, mean guy.
That's rush.
Speaker 6 (31:40):
I'm sorry, Yes, I know that song, okay, but in
all honesty, like, Jeremiah Smith had three targets, one catch,
three yards. He's the best receiver in college football. You
think they're gonna force feed him early to get him back.
Speaker 5 (31:54):
Hey, sorry, sorry, we couldn't feed you last game. Hyeah.
Speaker 6 (31:56):
I know he's not a devaun complaining, but Notre Dame
has a good secondary noticed him had a good, good
run game. They're gonna have to really grind it out
control clock.
Speaker 5 (32:04):
I just don't know that you can do that.
Speaker 6 (32:07):
Still waiting for a Will Howard debacle if you will.
The way he played against Michigan, he's been pretty damn
good in the playoff. Can Notre Dame rattle him? Can
Freeman listen? If market Freeman wins this game, I need
to see him interviewing for multiple NFL teams.
Speaker 5 (32:19):
Thanks we coll him.
Speaker 6 (32:20):
I don't know if he could pull it off, but
if he does as a huge underdog. And by the way,
you can do like a teaser with Ohio State under
a field goal, Detroit under a field goal? What's the
other what's the first game of Kansas City under? You
could do college and NFL, so you can match those
and have a fun teaser or money line parlay whatever
(32:41):
you want.
Speaker 5 (32:42):
But I'm hoping for good games.
Speaker 2 (32:44):
Colin.
Speaker 1 (32:45):
Yeah, it has been a very strange year betting football games.
The favorites in landslides are winning a collegen pro and
so I have pivoted. Now last week I'm going I
mean I probably should be on Detroit. I just think
Jaden Daniels will give Detroit's defense trouble, no doubt about it.
But I know now I'm thinking to myself as I
(33:07):
say this, Ben Johnson's gonna have trick plays left and right.
Now will he outthink the room and get too clever?
But he wants to flex the Raiders. He's their number
one target. He's one or two with Chicago. Jacksonville may
want him. Ben Johnson comes out with the old statue
of Liberty. I mean he's gonna bring out He's gonna
bring out the playbook.
Speaker 5 (33:27):
How about this?
Speaker 6 (33:27):
Ben Johnson scores fifty against Washington. Yesterday's price is not
today's price, Sorry, Vegas.
Speaker 1 (33:33):
That's what he's thinking of. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean coaches,
they know what's going on.
