Speaker 4 (02:29):
And getting ready for quote me our new game giving.

Speaker 5 (02:33):
Away prizes, so stick around for that and of course
big Sexy Ryan on the ones and twos.

Speaker 4 (02:37):
But I want to continue talking about.

Speaker 5 (02:40):
What made the Four Nations tournaments so great, so intriguing
pulled us all in yesterday. We have to make it
very clear that we rarely watch hockey, and man, we
were tuned in. We felt the excitement, we realized it
felt big, we realized that pride was on the line,
and we saw some really great sportsmen and really get

(03:01):
great gameplay.

Speaker 4 (03:01):
And I don't think anyone said it better than PK.
Subah last night. Rich. Yeah, take a listen to this
guy giving it to steven A.

Speaker 8 (03:10):
I'm sick and tired of making athletes greats, all time
greats that aren't the best examples. Steven A, you want
athletes to be educated on this and understand this.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
They got to.

Speaker 8 (03:20):
Understand the importance of showing up to the All Star
Game and.

Speaker 6 (03:23):
Being on the court.

Speaker 8 (03:24):
Because you're making one hundred two hundred three hundred million,
you should be out there banged up.

Speaker 6 (03:29):
You should be.

Speaker 4 (03:30):
That's why we pay you.

Speaker 8 (03:32):
Is to max out. I don't care if you play
fifty years. I want your best ten. I want you
on the court dominating. I want you to go all out.
I want Michael Jordan, I want Kobe. That's what I
want in every sport. That's the guy that I follow.
Your different version than that, you don't get my respect.

Speaker 5 (03:50):
I think that's why it resonated so hard last night, though, Rich,
because it's the casual fans, right, The casual fans are
easily turned off by that type of adde, whether it's
warranted or not. That's the vibe we get from a
lot of pampered athletes. You didn't get that vibe last
night from these hockey players. They were putting it all
out there for the fans, for their teammates, for their country,

(04:11):
for the pride, and that hit us and we're watching.
You could see we have eyes like, yo, man, this
is cool to watch.

Speaker 4 (04:17):
Yeah that even stephen A was like, I can't I'll
do that. We can't debate that.

Speaker 3 (04:23):
I wrote down three reasons why I think last night resonated,
and you.

Speaker 4 (04:26):
Just touched on one of them.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
Anytime you involve country pride, That's what the Olympics are
based on. Right, So you talk about country pride to
see in the world's baseball class.

Speaker 5 (04:34):
It's almost an unfair comparison to compare that to the
NBA All Star Game.

Speaker 4 (04:38):
Done.

Speaker 5 (04:38):
But you got to give hockey credit for saying, well,
this is what we're gonna do, right that it was.

Speaker 4 (04:44):
A great move.

Speaker 3 (04:45):
Well, the NBA has toyed with, like I said, the
one on one million dollar tournament. They have also toyed
with like the US Superstars versus the International superstars.

Speaker 4 (04:53):
Maybe there's something there.

Speaker 3 (04:55):
So country pride always is going to bring out another layer, right,
I'll be honest. Polarizing or not. The fact that Donald
Trump was involved in I'm Gonna Motivate USA.

Speaker 5 (05:06):
It created a buzz for sure, it just brought more
attention to what was going on because that became a
story in itself.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
And you can't say that the fighting layer doesn't appeal
to us. That we knew that the previous matchup a
week ago, there were three fights in the first like
nine seconds. So when you know that, ooh this bad blood, yeah?
And which is yeah? Which is you know what it is?
It's a fighter's responsibility. If you watch UFC, you're boxing,
it's a fighter and a promoter's responsibility to get you

(05:32):
hyped up about the fight. And the easiest way to
do that is to create animosity in bad blood. So hold, hey,
but again, what we criticize sometimes the NBA four is rivalry.

Speaker 4 (05:44):
It's rivalry.

Speaker 5 (05:45):
Well, you're really getting at the heart of it here
is rivalry, right, We really bought into the rivalry here.

Speaker 4 (05:50):
Like ooh, they don't like each other. That gets you
tuned in.

Speaker 5 (05:55):
Would you rather watch a boxing match of two people
that respected each other and liked each other or people
that hated each other or you know, it could it
could get nasty.

Speaker 4 (06:05):
That that builds intrigue.

Speaker 5 (06:07):
And when we see what happens in the NBA, you
can see that's great sportsmanship or whatever, and not just
the NBA. There's I'm not I don't want to be
like I'm hating on the NBA, but a lot of
sports today is when players are too buddy chummy with
the opposing team, it takes away that rivalry that we
as fans want to see sometimes.

Speaker 3 (06:24):
Yeah, so if you add all those things up, country
pride fighting and President Trump, and they were booze and
cheers and jeers for the the US anthem, oh Canada.
So there was a lot of layers and I think
a big night for hockey. So you got to give
credit where credit's due. I'm not saying I'm gonna start
watching a random Avalanche game on a Tuesday, you know where,

(06:46):
Like it's not like I'm getting the NHL package when
I get home.

Speaker 5 (06:49):
But still also though on a big stage, when the
stars step up, you know, and you see Connor McDavid
come through like that, like, oh, that's why he's a
big name. That's cool to see, right, Like you want
to see those stars deliver when you tune in. Again,
we rarely watch hockey, but I think they won me
over last night. I think you know, they won a
lot of people over that's the sentiment here.

Speaker 3 (07:10):
And you know what you could tie it into, Like
I said before, what gave the WNBA buzz in the
last year and a half rivalry A great young star
and rivalry. Yeah, maybe that rivalry, Like you know what
made the NBA take off to new heights in the eighties,
Magic versus Birds, Celtics, Lakers, the owners, the organization.

Speaker 4 (07:31):
The stars. So the stars playing with fire, you know.

Speaker 3 (07:34):
I mean, think about baseball in the nineties, Yankees, red Sox.
There's a reason why sports have their peaks and valleys.
Peyton Manning versus Tom Brady, that battle in the AFC
for a good decade. You need competition, you need rivalries,
you need this stuff. And I think right now the
NBA has some great aging superstars. Steph Lebron, Kyrie, Draymond Well,

(08:00):
these are these are all guys that they're sort of
all pals.

Speaker 4 (08:04):
They played with you, with each other, they have it.

Speaker 3 (08:06):
Can you tell me one rivalry, Danny, you watched the
NBA more than all of us.

Speaker 4 (08:10):
Can you tell me right now, one heated.

Speaker 3 (08:13):
Rivalry in the NBA where it's like, ooh, they're playing
the Tuesday night on TNT.

Speaker 4 (08:16):
I gotta watch.

Speaker 6 (08:18):
Yeah, I wouldn't say heated comes to mind for any
of the rivalries right now in the NBA. But what
I'll say about all the criticism for their All Star weekend,
there was defense played. Finally, that's been the rub for
a long time now. Those high scores, what were the
final scores like two ten to to two? Two yeah,

(08:38):
to two to two.

Speaker 4 (08:40):
The over under on those games were like four to fifteen.

Speaker 6 (08:42):
Yeah, exactly, and now this format was more competitive. The
big complaint and from a lot of the players, including
Trey Young if you remember, was that those twenty minute
breaks were what kind of threw this out of sync.
So I think they're on the right track in the NBA,
but there's still some tweaking that needs.

Speaker 4 (08:59):
To be okay.

Speaker 5 (09:00):
So again, the question that we posed to everybody hanging
out and just chilling eight seven seven fourth of Herd
is did hockey win last night?

Speaker 4 (09:08):
Did it win you over?

Speaker 5 (09:10):
And if you're already a fan, what was it that
made it feel so big to you? And how did
you feel about everything you saw last night? And congrats
again to Canada man.

Speaker 3 (09:17):
That was awest not to hammer home the same point
as we'll move on, but the competition, the competitive you know, countries, rivalries.
What was the first thing everyone was saying when the
Luca Anthony Davis trade went down, Ooh, you know what
would be awesome in the playoffs if Dallas and the

(09:37):
Lakers got matched up, Because that's our initial instinct is
we want to see the drama, the rivalries.

Speaker 4 (09:45):
Yeah, but as PK.

Speaker 5 (09:46):
Subon said, yeah, we want to see that, but it's
also on there and to deliver that sort of competitiveness,
it's it's on them to say I'm playing hurt, no doubt,
I'm giving you my one hundred percent.

Speaker 4 (09:57):
That's why they're getting paid that much money, but no doubt.

Speaker 3 (10:00):
If the Lakers and Mavericks somehow lined up to play
in the Western Conference semis or even the finals, you know,
depending on how the bracket works out, that would, by far,
mark my words, it would be by far the biggest
ratings if aid these healthy, Lucas healthy.

Speaker 4 (10:16):
And now I'm gonna mark Messi a year words. Now
you're a hockey guy, hockey guy. Rich.

Speaker 6 (10:21):
Also with that line of thinking, we're paying attention to
whenever Jimmy Butler and the Warriors play against his former
Heat teammates, it's.

Speaker 3 (10:31):
It's why every time a guy goes back to a
team that did him dirty or traded him or he left,
what do they do? It's always a homecoming of fans
want to watch because it's a nice thing.

Speaker 4 (10:40):
Or like oh that a hole's back. Boom, Like why
we we can't forget? Why we love these things? Right?

Speaker 5 (10:48):
Your thoughts? Fox Sports Radio Nation? Do we all agree
on this? Have to eight seven seven for the herd.
I thought, you know, for a random Thursday night, I'm.

Speaker 4 (10:58):
Like, what am I watching?

Speaker 5 (11:00):
This feels like two Welds clad rob they shuns. It
felt like an Olympic type of atmosphere last night, and
that's sort of what we got on a random Thursday.
Props again to hockey. They did it right, they innovated,
it worked out. Props again to the Four Nations tournament
and the Four Nations title and overtime goes to Canada.

Speaker 3 (11:21):
By the way, oddly enough, until last night, Cavino's favorite
hockey player, Happy Gilmore.

Speaker 6 (11:26):
Yeah, Covino and Richard Canadians. Now, I was watching NBA
last night.

Speaker 4 (11:33):
I was seriously, Danny, Yeah, not tune in.

Speaker 6 (11:35):
No, I saw highlights, but I was watching NBA last night.

Speaker 4 (11:39):
It felt like a big deal.

Speaker 6 (11:41):
You guys are prisoners of the moment right now with hockey.

Speaker 4 (11:44):
I mean, it's possible.

Speaker 3 (11:45):
That's why I like to hear everyone's opinion because I
totally felt sucked in where I'm like.

Speaker 4 (11:50):
Oh my god, do I like hockey?

Speaker 3 (11:52):
No?

Speaker 4 (11:53):
Impossible, but oh this just feels big. Dude.

Speaker 5 (11:55):
We were in Jersey right eating pizza, watching hockey like oh.

Speaker 4 (12:00):
Man, enjoying every second of it.

Speaker 6 (12:03):
Yeah, the same guy who last week on The Dan
Patrick Show when we were filling in, you guys put
competitive eating over hockey as a major sport.

Speaker 3 (12:12):
That's right, that's right, but it's all changed after hold on,
hold on, now, we did have Joey Chestnut on the show.
Do I take back what I said? I still think
hot dog eating is above hockey.

Speaker 4 (12:23):
But you really hit the nail on man.

Speaker 5 (12:26):
That's funny because the question really is, are we all
not just Cavino and Rich Are we all just prisoners
of the moment because we saw something really great last night?

Speaker 4 (12:39):
Are we prisoners of the moment?

Speaker 5 (12:41):
Or did it really delivered to the point where hey,
I think I'm a fan.

Speaker 4 (12:48):
You know what I don't want to do though, Cove
I don't want to be the guy I hate.

Speaker 3 (12:52):
And you know who that guy is. It's the guy
that every four years breaks out his vouvazala and he's like, yeah,
soccer and you're like, shut up, shut up, World Cup guy,
put away your horn.

Speaker 4 (13:03):
And I get it. You like hockey. I mean, I'm
sorry you like soccer. I don't want to be that
guy with the hockey. We're not.

Speaker 5 (13:08):
But that guy's usually the same guy that likes the Olympics,
and the Olympics only right now, but I will say
a great night the mother evidend he win for Canada,
win for hockey.

Speaker 4 (13:20):
All right.

Speaker 3 (13:20):
Now, I have an interesting question to post based on
something I read this morning. Now I'm not saying this
is likely, but there are articles on legitimate nude sources.

Speaker 5 (13:29):
Did you say nude sources, because that's probably more accurate.
If Rich was reading something, it's probably.

Speaker 4 (13:35):
From a nude source. I'm sorry, I'm not sure what
happened there, news source. I should get rid of my
nude sources. I'm sorry. There are news sources saying that.

Speaker 3 (13:48):
Likely won't happen, but there are even ESPN is one
of these places that are suggesting that the Chiefs could
make a very unpopular move, but when it comes to money,
on the books, dead cap space, everything, it makes a
hell of a lot of sense for the Chiefs to

(14:10):
think about moving on from Travis Kelcey after what he
has done for that team. His girlfriend's the most famous
person on planet Earth. What do they talk about the
hundreds of millions of dollars she's brought in revenue.

Speaker 4 (14:23):
The owner of the Chief's daughter thanked her for every way.

Speaker 5 (14:26):
There's like weird value in that because any team that
would want to pick him up also gets that fan base.
Remember the stats like Chiefs fandom went up like forty
percent as a result of the Swifties.

Speaker 3 (14:40):
As Travis kelce said on the New Heights podcast, I'm
gonna take some time to figure it out. I think
I owe it to my teammates that if I do
come back, it's gonna be a wholehearted decision. And I'm
not half ass in it. I'm fully in it there
for them now, there's no doubt. I think if you're.

Speaker 4 (14:56):
Wondering if your wholeheart's in it, it is. I said
that last week.

Speaker 3 (15:00):
I said, but there's truth to that. I said, if
you have to think about whether or not you care.
I'm not Travis Kelsey's I'm not putting words in another
girl man's mouth.

Speaker 4 (15:07):
But if you if I said, Cavino, let.

Speaker 3 (15:10):
Me think about if I'm in it for the Covino
and Richell, then you should think like, yo, he's not
in it.

Speaker 4 (15:14):
Not in it. If I ask.

Speaker 3 (15:16):
Kevino, if you think about it, I said, then you
and I are not on the same page. If I said, hey, Covino,
our contract's coming up soon, how do you feel about
our show?

Speaker 4 (15:22):
And you're like, you know, let me think about if
I'm in it. If you have to think about whether
you're in it, it's how would you like it if
your wife said that to you, honey, our anniversary is
coming up. Let me think about if I tell him
in it.

Speaker 7 (15:34):
I was thinking about renewing our vows. Let me think
about whether or not I'm in it or not. Because
if I'm not fleet in at then I don't think
it would be fair to you.

Speaker 4 (15:48):
Bro. You would be like, well, clearly she's not that
in it. In any other scenario you would be like
beat it.

Speaker 3 (15:54):
Well, it might be an unpopular move, But the way
Kelsey's contract is set up, what an easy way for
the Chiefs to sort of revamp a little bit in
twenty twenty five. It would cost the Chiefs only two
point five million dollars to cut Travis Kelcey. However, it

(16:16):
would save them seventeen million dollars in salary cap.

Speaker 5 (16:19):
Yeah, but again there's an unwritten how much revenue they
get from the swifty fan base as a result. Those
are amazing stats. Read that again. It would cost them
two point five million to get rid of dead money
and dead money, while though would save save seventeen in
salary cap. But how much are they really losing too
with that fan base?

Speaker 3 (16:39):
And then you got to say, well, what are they
more interested in their cap space and winning or keeping
hundreds of millions of dollars of Swifty revenue as part
of their team.

Speaker 5 (16:49):
And by the way, if he retires a chief, right,
you got a factor in that. Every young girl and
this sounds silly, guys, but this is the truth. Every
young girl who was impacted by them dating that are
now considered Chiefs fan.

Speaker 4 (17:04):
I guess I'm a Chiefs fans for.

Speaker 5 (17:06):
The rest of their life if he retires a Chief.
If they're buying a jersey or going to a game
or showing interest in any team, it's gonna be the Chiefs.
Do you know how much so the Caago Bulls benefited. Yeah,
but you have value in that and it can't be
It sounds absurd and silly, but it can't be downplayed.

Speaker 4 (17:22):
Do you know how much of.

Speaker 3 (17:23):
Chicago Bulls benefited in the nineties until this day based
on kids, little boys, little girls, everyone that's like I
like Michael George As you're creating generations of fans. You
you created and it was the Chiefs owner's daughter that
that that right, the Hunts there are fansom went up

(17:44):
forty three percent as a result. You'd be lying if
you didn't tell If you're roughly fortyish like we are,
Danny g Big Ryan, you tell me you don't have
at least a couple of friends like I'm a Bulls
fan and they were a Bulls fan because when they're
a little boy, they love Michael Jordan and they stuck
with the Bulls till this day, through Derek Rose, through
nobody's till now.

Speaker 4 (18:04):
They are a Bulls fan.

Speaker 3 (18:06):
And Travis Kelcey by dating Taylor Swift, have created generational fans.

Speaker 4 (18:11):
So we ask you it's a two layer question.

Speaker 3 (18:13):
It would be would it be a fool's move to
trade I'm sorry or cut release Travis kelcey, And think
about your own team. What's the trade or cut that
hurt your heart as a fan? Think of the teams
you're rooted for from the time you're a little boy
or girl till now. What was the team cut or

(18:38):
trade that hurt your feelings the most. Because there's one
that's happening right now that's in the same vein as
Travis Kelcey. I think it has maybe one tenth of
the impact. But there's a guy that does not have
a home right now, and I think it's BS And
I'll tell you what it is next. Cavino and rich
In for our buddy Colin on the Herd.

Speaker 4 (18:58):
Let's go one.

Speaker 2 (19:00):
The Herd streams twenty four hours a day, seven days
a week within the iHeartRadio app search Herd to listen
live or on demand whenever you like.

Speaker 5 (19:09):
All right, Covino and rich And for Colin on the
Herd eight seven seven four The Herd at Covino and
rich If you want to play along at home, CoV
I and O and rich and definitely check our podcast
search Covino and Rich wherever you stream. We're live in Vegas.
Danny G's on the phones back in LA with Big
Sexy Ryan and you.

Speaker 4 (19:28):
Think he likes that nickname. We make a dad. Ryan's
got to go home and be like, honey, they call
me Big six. How do you not like it?

Speaker 5 (19:34):
Right? And we're talking about well, as Dan Byer wants
put it on our show, cutting the head.

Speaker 4 (19:40):
Of the snake.

Speaker 3 (19:41):
Sometimes you gotta cut the head of the snake get
the culture of the team. They did it with No
Ma in Boston and then ended up winning two World Series.

Speaker 5 (19:48):
Dude, that is four year period because theo Epstein was
the young GM at the time and people are like,
what are you doing? He's the only guy we love
here on the Red Sox. He's the guy, he's the
face of the franchise. You're gonna get rid of No
Mon And that's the story. And if you really want
to change the culture sometimes and you really want to

(20:08):
move forward, those are the moves, the unpopular moves at
the time, that you got to make. And I believe
Dan Bryer Byer put it in that in that perspective
when we were talking about Aaron Rodgers leaving the Jets, Like, Hey,
are the Jets going to keep Aaron Rodgers? You think no,
because if you really want to change the culture, sometimes
you got to get rid of that.

Speaker 4 (20:27):
You gotta get rid of that guy. Shout out to
her buddy d b h Kevin and rich In for
the Herd.

Speaker 3 (20:32):
And this comes up because there's a sentiment out there
that the Chiefs cutting Travis Kelcey sort.

Speaker 4 (20:40):
Of makes sense. You're not getting rid of Patrick mahomes.
That's not happening. I mean, he's your guy forever.

Speaker 3 (20:45):
But you know, an aging looking sluggish in the Super Bowl,
Travis Kelsey who has one hundred million dollar podcast life
is good for him.

Speaker 4 (20:53):
Patrick Mahomes here, I'm here, Hey, what's up?

Speaker 9 (20:55):
Covino and rich doing a great job in for Colin
on the Herd And uh, I just want to know, well,
I have any saying this and all, uh, because it
up to me.

Speaker 4 (21:03):
He's my guy.

Speaker 9 (21:03):
He stays on the team. We won on him before
and uh, I know we got to look forward to
the future, but he's the guy. He's part of the
fabric of what we do. Just saying and I just
want to say a great job again, especially that Covino guy.

Speaker 4 (21:14):
He's my guy, Cavino. Way to go, Nope, ca him
out all right later, Guys, you knows there's other there's
other tight ends. You know.

Speaker 5 (21:21):
Our dude Dallas Goddard, who were hanging with yesterday. He's
a free agent next year, Sam looked him up. He
signed like a fifty something million dollar deal, so till
next year. And if I was, hey, Mahomes, you're gonna
tell me you wouldn't want a solid young stud like
Dallas Goddard.

Speaker 4 (21:36):
A surethanded guy like that in the year, Believe it,
absolutely he would. It's low and Danny.

Speaker 3 (21:43):
When when brock Bauers tires of being a Raider in
a couple of years, I'm kidding, watch him mouth Oh
that's right.

Speaker 4 (21:50):
I'm sorry.

Speaker 3 (21:50):
I'm dealing with two Raiders fans. I'm sorry, Ryan, But yeah,
they're saying. The sentiment is if they cut Kelsey, they
lose like two mil if know if they Yeah, if
they cut him, but they also get seventeen million dollars
in cap space back and if he's at the end.
It might make football sense, but doesn't make sense to

(22:11):
the fans, to all the swifties. And you might say
that's ridiculous. But as the owner's daughter said, hundreds of
millions of dollars. You could tie back to the tailor Swift,
Travis Kelcey, chief Kingdom.

Speaker 4 (22:25):
Yeah, whether you want to believe that or not.

Speaker 3 (22:27):
Now I said, I have an example that is maybe
one tenth of this, but it really is, like I think,
a fail of all fails.

Speaker 4 (22:34):
And I get it.

Speaker 3 (22:34):
You want to feel the best team in any sport.
You could say what good the Lakers did for Bronnie.
It was you know, it's more of a show than legitimate.
He's a good young player, but he should not be
NBA ready yet. But you know what, sold tickets, got headlines.
But my example is not Bronnie, It's not Kelsey and Swift.

(22:56):
I'm a New York Mets fan. Last year, you can't
go through three seconds without single fan holding up an
OMG sign.

Speaker 5 (23:03):
Hello it is one Soto. I want to say, I
like Betty Betty much. If Glaciers stay on the team,
I feel like I like him Betty pretty much. And uh,
it means a lot to me. Jan So if you
stay on the team, OMG, OMG and great job Kubino.
I love that guy and I like him, Betty very.

Speaker 3 (23:22):
Much so Jose Glacias, No, but you don't think he
answered that Latin flavor.

Speaker 5 (23:27):
That honestly, between you and Meme Bro and the millions
that are listening right now, I think part of that
is what pulled Soto to your Mets. They had that
Latino flair. They had a fun vibe, They had Francisco Lindor,
They had a bunch of young Latin players that had
a lot of fun. They were able to grow facial there.

Speaker 3 (23:44):
So this this OMG Mets rally cry has not been signed.
They and I'm not saying I'm not comparing Jose Glaciers
to Juan Soto.

Speaker 4 (23:53):
J Soto was a big Ndalita fan, Bro.

Speaker 3 (23:56):
Pete Alonzo Manaia. I'm not comparing him to any of
the Mets off season signings. But when you are gonna
spend seven hundred and sixty five million dollars on Jan
Soto and a guy like Jose Glacias probably is like
a five million dollar utility guy, I'm not saying throw
away five mil.

Speaker 5 (24:12):
But please reemphasize you though you're not comparing him to
Travis Kelson.

Speaker 4 (24:16):
No, I'm not.

Speaker 3 (24:16):
I'm just I'm talking about it as far as like
he's the part of the fabric of the team.

Speaker 4 (24:21):
You want to keep him around. That's what you're getting. Yeah,
when when when there's a when there's a guy, a
fan favorite, a rally cry, someone.

Speaker 3 (24:29):
That means something to the team, And especially when it's
not when it's not big spending, like Jose Glacias isn't
saying I want double digits a year.

Speaker 4 (24:38):
I bet you Jose Gleasias would take a one year
small deal. Well don't you think Kelsey honestly should be
willing to take a pay cut for you know, one
more goodbye year and and one more year of putting
it out there and see if they they could run
it back and make some moves just to get back
on track again.

Speaker 3 (24:54):
Oh, telling them groupman to take a pay cut. It
sounds easier when you say it, like the reality is like,
why should I take pickot? I'm a future. I'm just
saying I think there's some some prime Matt your thoughts
at eight seven seven for the Herd, I want to
hear the player that upset you the most when your
team cut ties, whether they released him, cut them, traded him,

(25:17):
the one that hurt the fan base where it's like,
you know, for real, you got rid of blank when
I was a kid as a Mets fan. I'll give
you one more math because it's what I could speak
of because that's my fandom.

Speaker 4 (25:26):
Two of them. I mentioned it before. When Montana left
the Niners, I was like, really, I like Steve Young,
but O we are.

Speaker 3 (25:34):
And when the Mets said, yeah, you know what, we're
gonna let Gary Carter move on, the late great Gary Carter.
I know he was past his prime, but god, it's
Gary Carter like he was defacing and it was just
you know, just the smile as he's a leader of
the team. Yeah, there was something about Gary Carter's departure

(25:54):
when he went out West.

Speaker 4 (25:55):
It was like everybody, yeah, the soap commercials.

Speaker 5 (25:59):
Yeah, one of them cycable players in sports, and especially
in New York at the time because he won with
the Mets.

Speaker 3 (26:04):
So Danny, let me ask you, being an LA guy
when Piazza came to us, I know he was in
at the Marlins like a cup of coffee in between.

Speaker 4 (26:11):
But the Piazza leaving hurt you guys, Are you not care?

Speaker 7 (26:14):
No?

Speaker 6 (26:14):
It did? Yeah, I remember the girl I was dating
at the time, had like tears welling up in her eyes.
Damn when she found out. You gotta remember there was
a mural of him on the outside of Dodger Stadium.

Speaker 5 (26:26):
Now, the truth is Dan ripped. Danny ripped one. He
was a He had a mean brito that night and
she was tearing up. Yeah, I had nothing to do
with Piazza.

Speaker 6 (26:33):
The lady did not let gas in front of girlfriends.

Speaker 4 (26:36):
No, Danny.

Speaker 3 (26:37):
I remember you telling me once when Marcus Allen moved
on to the Chiefs, you were very appearable, and I cried.

Speaker 4 (26:42):
I was like boo.

Speaker 6 (26:43):
I was very upset because you don't want First of all,
you don't want to see your childhood hero like Marcus
Allen moved to a different team, but then let alone
it being the Chiefs, right, I go anywhere but Kansas City,
please if you are a Raider. And then more recently,
when John Gruden turned to Oakland and Mark Davis got
his dream to get his coach back, what's the first

(27:05):
big move? He traded Khalil Mack And there were Oakland
Raider fans at the time who quit. They wrote memos
about how their fandom was done. They can't believe this.
Khalil Mack was the guy we all were rocking his
jersey there at the coliseum and that that was a
big one. They're still Raider fans who have not gotten
over that.

Speaker 4 (27:24):
What hurts the most.

Speaker 5 (27:26):
It usually hurts the most when you were a little kid,
because that's your first realization of.

Speaker 4 (27:30):
Like, what, wow, my favorite guy is gone? How did
they do? Like as a kid, it's like baffling, like
you you're almost your heart he's hurting. What why would
they do that?

Speaker 7 (27:41):
You know?

Speaker 3 (27:41):
For my playing for my brother, that was Mookie Wilson
when he got traded to the Blue Jays. Everyone has
their example, our buddy bow Back at Fox Lart Lisson. Yeah,
Bo said he was in fifth grade when that Piazza
trade happened, and he remembers crying on the way.

Speaker 5 (27:53):
To school exactly what I was getting, man, Thank you,
bo Bo chiming in. That's a great sample because as
a kid, you're like, wait, they could do that?

Speaker 3 (28:04):
Well, you know what, We're gonna take all your feedback,
but let's hit the herd Line News with Danny g
Let's go, no, no, turn on the news.

Speaker 6 (28:13):
This is the herd Line News, all right, you guys
are honorary Canadians now. So I'm gonna start with Nathan McKinnon,
who was named MVP last night in the nation's face off.
McKinnon scored three goals in the three game round robin,
starting with Canada's four to three win over Sweden. Pretty
bad game opening game. He then added two goals in

(28:33):
that five three victory over Finland, and of course I
propelled his team out of the final versus our US team.
It was a well deserved honor for McKinnon, who got
Canada off to great early starts.

Speaker 4 (28:43):
Hey, Danny G do you think Canadians called Mark Messia
Mark Messi? Aa? Well stop it, Mark, No.

Speaker 5 (28:52):
You know what, It's gonna be a cool moment when
people ask me in the future. Hey, dude, you a
hockey fan, I can always say for one day. I
was for one day. Yeah, I went for one day
because that was an amazing game, an amazing moment.

Speaker 4 (29:04):
We'll see how it carries on. But they had a
great night.

Speaker 6 (29:09):
All right, So a league we can all agree on
the NFL. Aaron Rodgers, your boy, He's likely to play
a wild card role in the NFL carousel if the
former four time NFL MVP wishes to continue his career,
He's gonna have to go elsewhere because the Jets are
going to release him. He's going to need to find
it team willing to give him a shot. But what
is Rogers looking for exactly? CMZ tracked them down. He

(29:30):
was in a good mood after workout. Rogers talked about
the factors he's taken into consideration. If they want you,
he responded when asked that question. He also said he's
considering the potential squad put around him, and he wouldn't
mind warm Weather.

Speaker 3 (29:45):
I wasn't It makes all sense for a veteran. Ay,
I'm play in a nice place, you know. I want
to play for someone that could potentially win. And oh yeah,
who doesn't want to be wanted Danny. Whether it's a
relationship or a job, this sense of oh wow, you
actually want me is a good guying newsplan.

Speaker 4 (30:00):
Ladies listening. Every guy wants to feel desired.

Speaker 3 (30:03):
In fact, I think a lot of times when relationships
fail is when the wife or husband or girlfriend and
boyfriend doesn't make the other person feel desired at all.
For sure, So make Aaron rodgers Field desired. Somebody desired
Ticklas pitsies a little bit, all.

Speaker 6 (30:17):
Right, and we will wrap with the NBA sports media
was really critical of Lebron just a couple of days
ago after he missed two to three Cavino.

Speaker 4 (30:25):
Cavino specifically, Cavino always hard on Lebron at the.

Speaker 6 (30:28):
End of that Hornets game.

Speaker 4 (30:30):
Try to get him to yell at Doug gottleib and
you no, no.

Speaker 5 (30:33):
Truthfully, I love Lebron. I would love to see him
win one this year. I criticized him not changing for
that All Star Team photo. I thought that was a
weak moment, but he's had many, many great moments. I
just thought that was one one little step and a
lot of ups and downs just this season.

Speaker 6 (30:49):
Because one game later, Lakers head coach JJ Redick had
something to say about forty year old Lebron dropping forty
points to lead the Lakers to a one ten, one
h two win over the Blazers last night. He really
justifies anything that's normal, Reddick said, and not just the
physical feats in the place, it's the mentality. He's a billionaire,
yet he's playing on the second night of a back

(31:10):
to back at forty after twenty two years, with every
fricking record in every accolade. It's like, he's just amazing
to coach. He sets the standard for how you're supposed
to approach this craft.

Speaker 4 (31:21):
He was blazing him.

Speaker 3 (31:21):
As he said, I mean, the reality is we love
to glamorize all the other people. Oh you know, he's
no mj or no Kobe or no. This guy, Lebron
is doing it his age what no one has ever
done before. So it's very hard for the haters to
even weigh in on this because what are you gonna say, Yeah,
he's he's forty doing what a twenty four year old does.

Speaker 4 (31:40):
Come on, the guy's insane. You gotta give Lebron props
when he deserves it.

Speaker 6 (31:44):
By the way, he said, the secret, because he said
this for a while, is sleep when he has a
good game. But that was hard because the Lakers, they
did they're playing, didn't land until three in the morning.
So after the game, the Lakers' sideline reporter was like, well,
you can't stay sleep this time, and Lebron and said, yeah,
I can't because I slept in until eleven thirty.

Speaker 3 (32:04):
I'm telling you we're gonna have a killer show on Monday.
I'm gonna sleep all weekend. I'm so unrested out here.

Speaker 4 (32:11):
Take it edible until your son is bouncing on your
head when you get home. Yeah, all right, thank you
Danny J. With the herd Line news.

Speaker 2 (32:19):
Well that's the news and stopping the herd Line News.

Speaker 3 (32:24):
Yeah, I got one dumb question to go along with
all our feedback because I want I want to get
to your phone calls the player that left your.

Speaker 4 (32:30):
Team that hurt you as a kid, were you like
maybe a cry it on the way to school.

Speaker 5 (32:35):
I like that one because again there's there's rumor and
speculation that the Chiefs could save a lot of money
by getting rid of Travis Kelcey.

Speaker 3 (32:42):
But I have one other dumb question for you guys.
My wife and I have a relatively new car mm hm.
And because I'm coaching multiple kid sports, now that new
car smell oh yeah, now smells like Musky Catchers equipment
Musky or musty bowl. Do you, as a parent that coaches,

(33:04):
because I guarantee we're talking to a lot of dads
and moms a coach, do you keep the equipment in
the suv? Or do you load it and unload it
every time? Because I don't feel like taking that crap
in and out every time. But does that mean my
brand new car now smells like crappy equipment? Is that
the dad life?

Speaker 4 (33:21):
Leg? I think this is part of the dad life.
I think this is great problems to have.

Speaker 5 (33:26):
I think it just goes to the territory of being
a coach in little league or softball or whatever it
is you're doing. Yeah, now he wants to deal with
that hassle, I know. Or you could just buy like
a little tree air freshener.

Speaker 4 (33:39):
Call it a day. Thanks for solving my problem in
thirty seconds.

Speaker 3 (33:41):
Yeah, your feedback. The player that hurt your feelings the
most will get to that. Next In for the Herd,

Speaker 5 (35:05):
What a Thursday A night for Canada? Congratulations. We talked
about the Four Nations title, big win and ot I was.

Speaker 4 (35:13):
Shocked when I watched us night.

Speaker 3 (35:14):
Yeah, the Canadians didn't have the floppy heads like they're
doing Southwark.

Speaker 4 (35:17):
I thought they had floppy heads. It's all so confused
at first. But anyway, we watched, we enjoyed great time.
We talked about it. We'll talk about it again later on.
Maybe he was a trader.

Speaker 3 (35:26):
He's been eating ketchup chips and poutine all day and
Tim Horton's I'm like, dude, this guy.

Speaker 4 (35:31):
Yeah, no, that's me. What do you go there for good?

Speaker 4 (35:51):
It's called over Promised. I love that show. I think
you'll like it too. And speaking of shows and what
to watch next hour, we're gonna get you ready for
the weekend.

Speaker 5 (35:59):
We do it every a weekend, hobnobbing what you need
to watch in oorld spots, uh, sports and pop culture.

Speaker 4 (36:05):
I'll do that next.

Speaker 3 (36:05):
Let me ask you besides work trips, because we've done
some really fun broadcasting Canada, Vancouver, Toronto. We went to
Windsor when the Super Bowls in Detroit because someone said,
go to the strip clubs, I mean restaurants in Windsor. Yea,
But have you ever gone there on your own? Not
work related to where Canada?

Speaker 4 (36:25):
Yes? For what, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (36:28):
I have though college was a young man because the
drinking age was eighteen. Hey, dope, that was why I
was asking. When I went to Syracuse, people would go
to Niagara Falls and go on the other side just
because they were.

Speaker 4 (36:41):
Like, we could drink younger.

Speaker 3 (36:42):
That was the upstate New York. You know, you're in
the border town. Very underrated thing to do. Yea, that
was always the thing. You go to the casino and
you drink underage and Canada. Well sent out to our
Canadian friends. We got a lot of them, but a
big night. But right now we're wrapping up our conversation
about Travis Kelce. If you just joined us, the stat
was and the story was, there's just speculation that it

(37:03):
would cost two point five million to release them, but
they would save seventeen million dollars. So that's sort of
like getting ready, getting rid of one of your main
guys just for the greater good of the future. Makes
you think about it makes fiscal sense, but when you
talk about emotions with the fans and the Swifties and
the money that believe it or not, no, it sounds ridiculous.
But you were set before the money that even the

(37:25):
owner's daughter said that being a tied to Taylor Swift
brings in hundreds of millions of dollars.

Speaker 5 (37:30):
I'm not sure how much financial sense it makes. It
actually does make when you factor that in, when you
factor in generations of new fans that they would keep
if he retired or ended his career as a chief.
With all these Swifty fans, it's ridiculous, but it makes
us think of those players that you lost because he
is part of the heart and soul and fabric of
that franchise and this run that they've had those moments

(37:52):
as a kid or maybe as an adult where.

Speaker 4 (37:54):
They got rid of my guy. Oh that and you know,
it's kind of hard for me some any moments.

Speaker 5 (38:00):
But one that does come to mind, like we have
sort of like our standard answers, one that always comes
to mind for me is Robinson Canoe because I always
thought he was gonna be that.

Speaker 4 (38:09):
Dude, like he's the guy, home grown guy.

Speaker 5 (38:14):
I thought he was gonna be a Yankee forever. And
when he took the bag and went to Seattle, it
was like it was heartbreak. Everyone else laughed, You cried.

Speaker 3 (38:21):
No, seriously, was like, what you know, I'm reading our Danny, Well,
you got the phones rolling, I'm reading our feedback on
x and Instagram.

Speaker 4 (38:28):
Let's see.

Speaker 3 (38:30):
How about this one when Neil Smith left the Chiefs
to go to the Broncos. That's from Michael He said,
at that moment, I became numb.

Speaker 7 (38:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (38:38):
Wes Johnson hit us up and said, Garnett when he
left Minnesota.

Speaker 4 (38:42):
Uh, I'm a grown man.

Speaker 3 (38:44):
And I cried as a Chargers fan when Keenan Allen
said now I'm gonna go become a Bear ger. Wilbur
Marshall leaving the Bears, that was from Total Sports podcast
hit us up, saying that was a big one. We
getting a lot of feedback, and yeah, Kevin Garnette again,
Kevin Garnhead was a big one. Oh, how about this,
Jordan said, when Griffy Junior was traded from the Mariners.

(39:08):
He thought that guy was a lifer. That might be
a number one answer here Tracy McGrady from The Magic.
That's from h Sinkler who hit us up.

Speaker 5 (39:15):
So you know, the thought of Kelsey leaving the Chiefs,
that that wouldn't sit right with a lot of people.

Speaker 4 (39:21):
You know what's got of felt.

Speaker 3 (39:21):
Weird and it didn't happen, but it felt inevitable. And
you know, as you saw they pulled a one to
eighty real quick, didn't you get the gist that Steve
Cohen was like, yeah, later later, Peter Alonzo, Yeah, absolutely,
And for a minute I was like, that was a
bad move to make.

Speaker 4 (39:37):
I thought he was your guy.

Speaker 5 (39:38):
I honestly thought you guys weren't appreciating him enough and
showing him the respect.

Speaker 3 (39:41):
He deserved as a mess And it seems like, you know,
obviously it all worked out and people were projecting, oh,
he's gonna have a big year with that protection, with
Lindor leading off and Sodo in the lineup, Vientos coming
into his own, but there was a moment where it
seemed like, yo, Pete's really gonna go and you're like,
pet Alzzo's a blue jay that that would have been
whack because that was like the most like Lee Landing spot.
I remember thinking, my daughter, who's seven and my son,

(40:04):
who's five, Pete's probably like the first met they know
because I'm like, that's polar Bear Pete.

Speaker 4 (40:09):
So it would have been weird to be like kids.
He's gone.

Speaker 5 (40:14):
So next hour Fox Sports Radio Nation, we're gonna play
a game and give away prizes.

Speaker 4 (40:20):
A game called quote Me is one of our newest games.

Speaker 3 (40:23):
We're gonna play quote Me and some weekend hobnobbing what
you need to watch in the world of sports and
pop called Fantastic More Cavino and Rich Hanging on a Friday,
and for our buddy Colin on the Hurd, Hang Time
