Speaker 2 (00:19):
This is the Best of the Herd with Colin Cowher
on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
Welcome to the Herd. It's Wednesday.
Speaker 4 (00:30):
Jason McIntyre still in for Colin Cowher, joined today by
Alex Curry. Alex, it was a phenomenal night in the NBA.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
It was so much fun.
Speaker 5 (00:41):
Also like watching Lakers. Okay, see, I'm like this would
be such a fun, spicy series when and if they
meet in the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (00:49):
Yes, Yes, very exciting show today. We got a couple
one guest in studio. We got an NFL gambling guest.
I'll do some over unders later in the show, obviously,
some more NFL Draft talk with folks.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
I have to.
Speaker 4 (01:02):
Start with that amazing night in the NBA. No, I'm
not talking about the Timberwolves blowing a twenty four point
fourth quarter lead.
Speaker 3 (01:10):
I'll get to my knicks. Yes, I can call them
my knicks.
Speaker 4 (01:13):
Another gut wrenching loss to the Celtics, Folks, I've got
to start with the Los Angeles Lakers. Did you see
what went down in the dust Bowl last night? Lakers
at OKC and we saw a phenomenal basketball game with
one of the softest ejections I can recall in the
NBA this season. It was laughable, folks. It's the Lakers
(01:36):
against the world, and it's official.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
You see Luca putting in this.
Speaker 4 (01:40):
One handed shot there in the lane that put the
Lakers up one with about eight minutes left in the game,
and then Luca got ejected. You can see the official
there tossing Luca. Luka made a basket and just talk
trash to a fan. Now, this fan is, you know,
the typical meat ball in the stadium who's always there.
He has a history of talking to players, including Luca,
and Luca let him know, hey, man, I made that.
Speaker 3 (02:02):
Lucas said some choice words.
Speaker 4 (02:03):
But the official happened to be right there. And what
went down in Okasee last night after Luca was ejected,
I saw it, and we have our narrative for the postseason.
It's the Lakers against the world. Okay, see, fans went crazy,
the OKAC players were excited, Luca got run and then
if you went online and check the temperature, folks, everybody
(02:24):
hates the Lakers, and it's official.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
It's the Lakers against the world.
Speaker 4 (02:28):
Here's Luca talking about his ejection last night, which was laughable.
Speaker 6 (02:33):
Yeah, I mean you can see it that happened. But
you know, I never got a fan of Jack that never.
But if he's gonna talk, I'm going to talk back
like always. So that they had nothing to do with
the left, So I didn't really understand. I mean it
was tough. I mean we were right there. I think
we fought the whole game. You know, we were down
eight at halftime, came we came back in the third quarter,
(02:56):
and we were fighting.
Speaker 7 (02:57):
Man.
Speaker 6 (02:57):
So it was tough to see that with this kind
of situation to happen. And you know that told me too,
So I can't let my team downly that.
Speaker 3 (03:06):
So the narrative is built.
Speaker 4 (03:07):
It's official, right, Luca is whiny and complains a lot.
We don't like him. That's official around the league. And
now he's a Laker, which compounds matters. And then Lebron
also has the same oh, he whinds.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
He flopped. He complains he's better than Jordan, but I
don't like him.
Speaker 4 (03:22):
And so now you put those two together, toss in
a little Lakers history, and they're the biggest villains in
the NBA. This Lakers team since the Curry Durant Warriors
when they steamrolled the league and were unstoppable for two championships.
I think you could even compare this Luca Lebron pairing
to the hate that Lebron and Wade got with the
(03:44):
Heatles back in the day. If you guys remember that squad,
This is a Lakers team. People just don't like them.
People don't like them because they're great. I think they
have the best one to two punch in the league.
And I think if you watch these last two games
against the thunder guys, it's pretty obvious the Thunder do
not match up well with Luca Lebron and Austin Reeves.
And yes, I'm tossing Austin Reeds in there now. I
(04:05):
do want to add one other note. If you look
around the West, when I say the Lakers are villains
and they've got targets on their backs, remember Dylan Brooks
of the Rockets has gotten into it with Luca and
Lebron in the playoffs. Desmond Bane of the Grizzlies, he
wants to go at Lebron. They've gone at it. We
know Draymond Green and Lebron are friendly, but when Draymond
and Lebron are.
Speaker 3 (04:25):
On the court, it gets heated. Folks.
Speaker 4 (04:27):
You can pick any team in the West and there's
beef with the Lakers or Luca, And then you toss
in the referee factor. And I had to look this
up during the meeting this morning. Guys, Luca does not
lead the league in technical fouls. Oh, but that's right.
He missed about I don't know, thirty games due to injury,
and he's still near the top of the technical foul leaders.
(04:50):
Lucas averaging like a technical foul a game. So you've
got opposing teams don't like Luca and Lebron. Fans clearly
don't like the Lakers and Luca and Lebron. And oh,
we're now going to toss in the referees who seem
to have it out for Luca, who is prone to
doing some jawjacking. That's his thing. But folks, nobody hates
the Boston Celtics, the defending champs. They just don't Nobody
(05:13):
hates the Thunder They're kind of still irrelevant despite being
a sixty some odd win team.
Speaker 3 (05:18):
And I don't think anybody hates the Calves. They just
kind of exist.
Speaker 4 (05:22):
So I think all the attention now is going to
be focused on the Lakers and Luca and Lebron, and
it's shaping up to be a pretty glorious NBA playoffs.
I want to shift my attention now to the NFL,
and oh boy, here we go. A phenomenal headline on
Yahoo Sports. The Cowboys have a brilliant scouting network. They
(05:47):
also have Jerry Jones. That's genius headline work. Give that
man of promotion and it's really spot on. You could
look at the Dallas Cowboys draft history, folks. The Cowboys
in the last five or six years have drafted so
well in the middle rounds when you're kind of sort
of throwing darts. They got overshown in the third round.
He has been a home run. I know he's injured,
(06:08):
but he was great. Dron Bland fifth round pick. You
look back a little further, their center Tony Pollard Dalton Schultz.
Those two guys have moved on, but they've drafted really well,
and the Cowboy's.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
Had a great run under McCarthy, right, three straight.
Speaker 4 (06:22):
Years, eleven plus wins, and you're like, damn, you're great
at drafting.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
But then you look around.
Speaker 4 (06:30):
And Tony Pollard's gone and Dalton Schultz's gone, and all
of a sudden, you start looking around that roster and
it's like, we're getting kind of old, We're losing some players.
Jerry's negotiating tactics, not great with Dak, not great with CD,
certainly not great with Michael Parsons. And it reminded me
of that Jerry Seinfeld episode where he goes to the
(06:52):
rental car place and Jerry's like, hey, I got my
reservation for the car. They're like, oh, yeah, we have
your reservation, but we don't have any cars, and Jerry
Seinfeld kind of loses his mind. He's like, wait a minute,
you took my reservation. That's why I should have a car.
And they're like, we know how reservations work, and Jerry Seinfeld,
you don't. If you do, if you did know how
(07:15):
the reservations work, you'd have my car. And there's kind
of a parallel with the Cowboys here because they know
how to draft well, they just don't know.
Speaker 3 (07:22):
How to keep their guys. Folks.
Speaker 4 (07:24):
You could go through the entire roster. It's kind of
devoid a talent. I mean eventually, you know, this summer,
after the draft happens and everything, people break down the
rosters by position group, and I'm just telling you right now,
it's bleak for Dallas. You know, you look at their
skill position players, they're at least average or below around
(07:44):
the league.
Speaker 3 (07:44):
Their offensive line got old quickly. It is below average.
Speaker 4 (07:48):
You look at the defense, and they do have a
couple nice pieces, but by and large they're front seven
mid at best.
Speaker 3 (07:56):
The Cowboys don't know how to hold on to guys.
Speaker 4 (07:58):
And there's really the to only point at one guy,
and that's Jerry Jones, who keeps botching these contracts, I
mean worse yet, he's compounding matters by trading away the
valuable picks that they continue to hit on. Remember mid
round picks in the NFL, guys, they're tough. You're kind
of sort of throwing darts. The smart move is give
(08:19):
me more picks, because if I get ten, I'm probably
gonna miss on six. If I hit four, that's amazing.
And Jerry Jones is trading away picks, folks. He gave
up a fourth round pick for Joe Milton, the quarterback.
He traded for Trey Lance, who's no longer on the roster.
What about picking up Mingo the wide receiver who did nothing.
(08:42):
He's giving away valuable picks for guys who aren't really
gonna contribute. It's really a bizarre situation for Jerry Jones
and the Cowboys. And I'm gonna be honest with you,
like we're gonna do over unders later in the show.
And I really thought long and hard about the Cowboys
under it is where it has been under McCarthy. And
you see these images here on the screen of fans
(09:04):
kind of unhappy with Dallas. And then, as I said,
you look at that roster and you're like, are these
guys that good? I mean, the Cowboys are priced a
little bit ahead of the Jets and Giants, as they
should be. They have a quarterback in Dak Prescott and
a couple other pieces, but you look under the hood
and there's just not much there. And it reminded me,
so I talked about this on the show. I coached
(09:26):
this girl's basketball team. We entered this tournament. It was
a bunch of sixth graders. We had like an all
star team, but we only had like one practice together.
And we roll up to the tournament and our first
opponent comes out. The coach has a boombox on his shoulder.
He's playing music all loud. The crowd is excited. We're
like kind of wide eyed, like, what's going gee, what's
going on? What do we get ourselves into? The opponent
(09:47):
they got these jerseys that are all made up.
Speaker 3 (09:49):
They looked like they knew what they were doing.
Speaker 4 (09:51):
They score the first basket of the game, and I'm like,
oh geez, we're down, oh two.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
What do we get ourselves into?
Speaker 4 (09:57):
And then of course we proceed to full court press
them and steam ro then we win like twenty nine
to seven. One of the parents comes up to me
afterwards and says, Jason, that whole boombox.
Speaker 3 (10:07):
Thing, and this team they look good. You know what
they say about cowboys, right, all hat, no cattle.
Speaker 4 (10:13):
That's what that team was. They look good, they look
the part, but they don't really can't back it up.
And I thought about the Dallas Cowboys instantly, the all
hat no Cattle and that's kind of where we are, folks.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
I'm just telling you, you look at the roster for
the Cowboys.
Speaker 4 (10:29):
I don't know that it's better than say, the Pittsburgh Steelers,
who have no quarterback right now as we wait for
Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 3 (10:35):
Still, I'm keeping it real with you. My New York
Jets match the rosters together.
Speaker 4 (10:41):
Sure, the Cowboys have a quarterback, and they have Michael
Parsons and they have Cdee Lamb.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
After that, I mean, the Jets have more talent.
Speaker 4 (10:48):
The Eagles blow away, completely blow away anything.
Speaker 3 (10:51):
The Cowboys have.
Speaker 4 (10:52):
The Niners lose like six starters this offseason. Go put
the Cowboys next to the Niners. Go look at those rosters,
and you tell me who's got a better one. Dallas
is really sliding downhill, and Jerry Jones is the only
one to blame. You can't blame the scouting department. They're
doing their job. Jerry isn't doing his job.
Speaker 3 (11:12):
So, Alex, we got a spirited show today. I'm very excited.
Speaker 4 (11:15):
I do also want to get to talking to you
about White Lotus.
Speaker 3 (11:19):
Oh you finally watched you know, I'm old now. I
got to watch like half of it one night no, no, no, no.
Speaker 5 (11:25):
You were flying home when the finale air, so you
had an excuse.
Speaker 3 (11:29):
Yeah, it took you had to catch up.
Speaker 5 (11:30):
I'm happy you finally got there because it's like major
Star Wars ending themes, which I didn't see coming.
Speaker 4 (11:37):
I don't want to Yeah, yeah, I grew up on
the East Coast, so watching sports on the East Coast
is tough. Lakers and Warriors when they're on, it's like
eleven thirty and it's like, oh, come on, but out
here those games.
Speaker 3 (11:47):
Are done at like eight thirty nine.
Speaker 4 (11:49):
Then you yes, set it, Sure you could fire up
the White Lotus. But coming up next here on the show,
one NBA contender still has a major flaw.
Speaker 3 (12:00):
I'll tell you who it is that's next here on
the Herd.
Speaker 2 (12:03):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and neon Easter nine am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 4 (12:11):
Okay, Cowherd did his last week, and I've identified four
opportunities to bet on for the upcoming season. Now we'll
have someone come on Final Hour and dispute my picks.
He's a really sharp better. But let me get started
with four NFL over unders. I absolutely love Let's get started.
Speaker 3 (12:30):
Are you ready for this?
Speaker 4 (12:32):
Michael Pennix and the Atlanta Falcons. I really like them
this year. I know everybody loves Tampa Bay and everybody
thinks of Tampa Bay's the team. Keep an eye on
the Atlanta Falcons over seven and a half wins. Pennix
not only was he with the team last year, but
a full off season. They've got the good run game
with Jean Robinson. I think they'll probably get him another
(12:53):
weapon in the draft. Pitts is sticking around at tight end.
And I looked at the schedule. Guys, they play the
West and the AFC East right, and you're like, oh,
that's not that easy.
Speaker 3 (13:04):
Well, then you drill down a little further.
Speaker 4 (13:06):
There's only two potential cold weather games for the Dome
Falcons at the Jets at the Patriots. Also, those teams
are not good. Everything kind of sort of lines up
on the road. Outside the division. They have to play
one team that had a winning record, and that was
the Vikings. Their road games are easy. There's a world now.
I know we were a little early last year on
(13:27):
the Falcons were like, oh, here's a twelve win team.
Didn't quite happen. There was the Cousins regression. Pennix didn't
take over till it was too late. The Falcons nearly
made the playoffs. Remember that game against Washington late in
the season they needed it didn't quite happen. So I'm
on the Falcons over seven and a half wins. Next
up and under, Detroit Lions. I'm so sorry. I got
(13:49):
some buddies who were Lions fans. They were loving last
year's ride. Jared Goff lives kind of sort of near me.
I saw him on the beach with his wife recently.
We had the exact same dog.
Speaker 3 (13:58):
I like baff. I told them to call in the show.
Oh he knows Coward's a fan. It doesn't look great
for multiple reasons.
Speaker 4 (14:04):
Number one, Aaron Glenn defensive coordinator, was phenomenal, and they
didn't have a ton of defensive talent outside of Hutch
and the young safety from Alabama.
Speaker 3 (14:13):
Then they lose Ben Johnson.
Speaker 4 (14:15):
I know we love Dan Campbell, but guys, Ben Johnson
was really the brains behind that offense.
Speaker 3 (14:20):
And I think there will clearly be a step back.
Speaker 4 (14:23):
Everybody would agree with that, but then it's how far
is the step back? And again, This is unbelievable, but
if you look at their schedule, it is definitely going
to be one of the four or five toughest schedules.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
In the league.
Speaker 4 (14:36):
These are their non division road games, and there's a
similarity between all these teams.
Speaker 3 (14:41):
The Lions play at Washington, at Philly.
Speaker 4 (14:46):
At sid Cy, at Baltimore, at KC, and at the Rams.
What do all those teams have in common? They all
had winning records last year. I'm just telling you that's
an absolute gauntlet. Now Washington will be outdoors, Phil outdoors
since he's outdoors. Baltimore's outdoors Casey. Last year, I think
the Lions had one or two outdoor games, maybe all
(15:07):
sees it. If these fall in November December, We'll see
how it goes for the Lions. But I'm taking the
under ten and a half for Detroit. Next up Seattle Seahawks.
Going under on the Seahawks as well.
Speaker 3 (15:20):
This couldn't go open my.
Speaker 4 (15:21):
Face a lot of time I'm waiting against the Seahawks,
I had to shave the insignia in the side of
my head. Won't be doing that again, that's for sure.
I just too much loss.
Speaker 3 (15:31):
On the offensive side of the ball.
Speaker 4 (15:32):
Gino, Smith, Lockett, Metcap. I just think that's going to
be very difficult to overcome all the newness you got
Sam Darnold. We'll see Cooper Cup happy for him. We'll
see I don't love this se off team. I don't
think the coach is a problem. I like him a lot.
They'll be competitive. I just don't see seven or eight.
(15:52):
I don't see eight wins. So I went to under
seven and a half and the final one. And I
apologize to all my people in DC because I got
a lot of friends.
Speaker 3 (16:00):
Eric kind of grew up in that area.
Speaker 4 (16:02):
I'm going under on the Commanders, under on the Washington
Commander's nine and a half wins. I know they blew
away everybody. Oh my gosh, how.
Speaker 8 (16:12):
Good was there?
Speaker 3 (16:12):
It went to the NFC Championship. How are they gonna regress?
Speaker 4 (16:15):
Well, do you guys remember the Houston Texans first year shock?
Speaker 3 (16:20):
Everybody was stroud make a playoff run.
Speaker 8 (16:24):
Oh my gosh.
Speaker 3 (16:24):
They were the most I think, one of.
Speaker 4 (16:26):
The most popular AFC Super Bowl picks this past season.
Speaker 3 (16:30):
They regressed.
Speaker 4 (16:31):
You get a year on tape on the rookie quarterbacks,
there's the sophomore slum.
Speaker 3 (16:35):
I think those things are real. I mean some of
these things are kind of real.
Speaker 4 (16:39):
Like the team that loses the Super Bowl usually doesn't
get back to the playoffs or.
Speaker 8 (16:42):
The super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (16:43):
That's like a real thing. I don't know how that works,
but it always seems to happen. I see a little
regression from Daniels. I think they won like three games
at the Buzzer. They had a very.
Speaker 3 (16:53):
Fortunate charm run last year.
Speaker 4 (16:54):
They're gonna be good, but under nine and a half
on the Commanders pick those apart.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
Please be sure to catch live editions of The Herd
weekdays and noon eastern non am Pacific.
Speaker 9 (17:04):

Speaker 4 (18:01):
All right, So will Blackman, super Bowl Champ joining us
in studio shortly. We are going to start, obviously with
the Lakers, the new villains of the NBA. They went
into OKC for a two game set, smashed them Sunday
and were actually playing their guys last night, going toe
to toe, leading by one.
Speaker 3 (18:20):
On this Luca shot in the lane with about eight
minutes left, and then.
Speaker 4 (18:24):
He got ejected and what I thought was a laughable ejection.
Speaker 3 (18:28):
Just a a.
Speaker 4 (18:29):
Travesty, really robbing the fans of what would have been
a great, great finish in Oklahoma City. So Luca scores,
he has this back and forth with a some meatball
in the second row and the referee doesn't see it,
and the referee thinks lucas talking to him, and the
referee ejects him.
Speaker 3 (18:46):
And my instant.
Speaker 4 (18:47):
Takeaway was, oh, my gosh, the league, the fans, the opponents,
everybody hates the Lakers.
Speaker 3 (18:53):
They are the new villains of the NBA, the Lakers
with Luca.
Speaker 4 (18:57):
And Lebron two. And I'm sure they'd admit it. They
complain lot they flopped, they're a little whiny.
Speaker 8 (19:02):
Listen.
Speaker 4 (19:02):
I don't have a problem with that, but around the league,
I think it's pretty clear the Lakers are public enemy
number one. My take was they're as hated as the
Curry Durant Warriors were. Kad why you got to go
to the Warriors, Well, you got to make them a
totally loaded team, and everybody did not like the Golden
State Warriors as they began a dynasty, winning two titles
(19:23):
with KD and Curry.
Speaker 3 (19:24):
If you don't think.
Speaker 4 (19:25):
They were hated, you got to go back to the Heatles,
the Lebron Wade team, which remember not one, not two,
not three. Everybody remembers that Chris bosh Wade and Lebron
people did not like them.
Speaker 3 (19:39):
And now you look around the league and.
Speaker 4 (19:41):
It's like, damn, you got Dylan Brooks and the Houston
Rockets coming for Lebron and Luca, you know, getting in
dust ups with them.
Speaker 3 (19:48):
OKC last night was getting you know, firing back.
Speaker 4 (19:51):
Jared Vanderbilt had a hard foul, and Jalen Williams and
guys stepped up. I'm just telling you, around the league,
the vibe is, we don't like these guys. The Lakers, well,
the golden franchise in the league. They didn't need to
get gifted Luka Doncic in one of the big trade
heist in NBA history. How you got to give Lebron
who's forty Luka Doncic right after he took the map
(20:13):
to the finals. It feels like the venom toward the
Lakers is out there. Here's JJ Reddick on the ejection
last night in ok See.
Speaker 8 (20:24):
It was a great game.
Speaker 10 (20:25):
It was a great game that unfortunately didn't get to
sort of finish out the way that I think every
basketball fan would want because of, you know, some decision
making on some individuals' parts.
Speaker 4 (20:40):
Yeah, I would agree with Reddick. He was a little
safe in his commentary. But when it went down, like
half the Lakers on the court were like, look at.
Speaker 3 (20:48):
That guy in the second row. That's the dude he
was talking to. We can hear him, Okay, because Luca
silenced the crowd with the shot.
Speaker 4 (20:55):
The guy says something and then Luca, you know, MFSM,
which is fine, you know whatever. Who hasn't done that
in a men's league game in the NBA before? Right,
So after the game, Lebron had some thoughts and uh,
look at how Lebron's reaction is when he talks about
the ejection.
Speaker 7 (21:10):
That was a weird weird We're a couple of minutes
after that, starting with the ejection, I don't know why
the ref was taking it personal.
Speaker 8 (21:21):
He had already gave Luca one and Luca knew that.
Speaker 7 (21:23):
And Luca was going back and forth at that time
with a fan that was sitting course, I like Luca
does when fans get the talk, talk out of their mind,
whatever the case may be. And Luca was going back
or forth in the ref took it upon himselves to
think it was a you know, verse him or whatever
the case may be. But then another t on Vando
after a block shot, and the game was just just
(21:46):
weird as hell after that moment.
Speaker 4 (21:48):
Yeah, yeah, I like it Lebron choosing his words carefully
so he doesn't get fined.
Speaker 3 (21:52):
By the way, I didn't. We didn't show.
Speaker 4 (21:53):
Highlights to the Vanderbilt block, but right after Alex Caruso
drove the light and Vanderbilt swatted the shot to like
Austin Texas.
Speaker 3 (22:01):
It was an unbelievable block and he kind of fletched
on him.
Speaker 4 (22:04):
And they were kind of face to face. But if
you look at the uploads, Vanderbilt didn't say anything and
then they get a technical uh for for allegedly talking
tracks but no words were uttered. The refs were out
to get the Lakers last night, and I know people,
that's not gonna be popular.
Speaker 3 (22:19):
I'm just telling you right now, around the league, people
don't like the Lakers.
Speaker 4 (22:23):
Okay, it's Lebron, it's Luca, it's whining, it's complaining, and
guess what, the Lakers are going to the NBA Finals, folks.
Speaker 3 (22:29):
I'm sorry it's happening.
Speaker 8 (22:31):
All right.
Speaker 3 (22:32):
Let's get to our guest, Will.
Speaker 4 (22:34):
Blackman, former NFL star in the secondary. He's done some
coaching with the Cowboys, wine connoisseur, his son's a good
basketball player.
Speaker 3 (22:48):
You're making you haven't seen it, Black Maziella. It's well,
you don't. You don't send me anyone. So how am
I supposed to know?
Speaker 8 (22:56):
This is not the sending round. This is by round,
and then the next round will be descending round.
Speaker 3 (23:01):
All right, So we'll do a lot of NFL will
but I have to start here.
Speaker 4 (23:04):
Eddie House came on and said, he's never been dumped
before by a girl.
Speaker 3 (23:08):
You've obviously you're a man about town. Yeah, he's stuck
on this idea. He never let it be dumped. You
won't let it go.
Speaker 8 (23:16):
No, I'd never been dumped. No, So I think for me.
Speaker 3 (23:19):
To say they've never been dumped, Alex and I have
been dumb. That's a big deal.
Speaker 8 (23:24):
No, I'm not. I'm not ashamed like if I was,
I was, I just I haven't. I haven't really dated
like like that where I don't know.
Speaker 11 (23:33):
If if like like, I've been in situations where I'm like, okay,
it's not really going anywhere, so you know, let me
just get.
Speaker 8 (23:42):
Out the way, Like, hey, I don't see a future.
Let's move on. Yeah, nothing crazy.
Speaker 3 (23:48):
Just speaking of crazy.
Speaker 8 (23:50):
So I was focused on football.
Speaker 3 (23:52):
People, welcome to You should have seen Aaron Jones here.
I made Aaron Jones scirm a little bit yesterday. Good
running back, tough questions. We got some tough stuff coming.
But I need to start the Luca ejection.
Speaker 8 (24:03):
I know you're to think about it that I've been
married so long, I can't even.
Speaker 3 (24:09):
Ejection.
Speaker 4 (24:09):
Yes, now, listen, we've seen We saw the Bears defense
last year against Washington with the Hill Mary right talking
to fans.
Speaker 3 (24:16):
Did you ever get into it with fans? And you know,
what do you make of this?
Speaker 11 (24:19):
What's funny about that is like Luca was drawing the
first game, probably with the same person like going off.
Speaker 8 (24:25):
So this that was crazy. No, I haven't.
Speaker 11 (24:28):
I did tell someone to shut up one time, I
think playing against the Vikings. But we did play Minnesota
one time, and I did lambeau leap at the Metro Dome,
like at their at their stadium. And when I went there,
this lady had two beer cans and dumped them.
Speaker 8 (24:45):
Right on me. And then I just decided to take
a step.
Speaker 11 (24:49):
Oh yeah, there's footballs. I feel like football is different.
But yeah, in the NBA, like they're roofless. You can
really hear them. Yeah, I'll tell you what. The the
worst place ever though, the worst place in all of
sports is SMU.
Speaker 8 (25:07):
Oh my gosh.
Speaker 11 (25:08):
They are ruth They are ruthless. Wow, they are ruthless.
Like the stuff they say is crazy.
Speaker 8 (25:14):
I couldn't believe it.
Speaker 4 (25:16):
All right, So let's go to the Cowboys. You've done
some coaching with them, consulting, what do you want to
call that?
Speaker 8 (25:21):
In turn, he was intern with.
Speaker 3 (25:23):
The Dallas Cows.
Speaker 4 (25:24):
So there was an interesting article about how the Cowboys
have such a rich, great draft history.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
They also have Jerry Jones, who seems.
Speaker 4 (25:30):
To make bad decisions moving on from players signing them
too late.
Speaker 3 (25:36):
Do you think the Cowboys are into in line for
a good season or not?
Speaker 8 (25:39):
Really?
Speaker 3 (25:39):
The roster's not that great right now.
Speaker 11 (25:41):
Yeah, I mean I think I think year and a
year they usually are in position to have a good season.
It's just a matter of like, especially on the defensive
side of football, they've been just like decimated with injuries,
especially at the linebacker position, and then outside that corner
you had Trayvon go down one year and then Bland
go down the other year. So they've been really struggling
(26:02):
in terms of that, and so the only criticism I
could I could say is really not addressing like the
linebacker position, like when it comes to free agency during
the season, because vander ash went down and then Overshown
went down a couple of years ago, Overshon got hurt again,
and I remember in two thousand and was a twenty three.
They moved Marquise Bell, who's a two hundred and ten
(26:23):
pound safety into the box and then teams just started
to running the football like crazy, and that's what Green
Bay ultimately end up doing. So I just feel like
it's just a matter of health and then right offensively,
I mean just trying to find weapons. I mean, they
brought in, you know, Brandon Cooks, who's you know, he's
he's known for just taking the top off a defense.
But get somebody else on the other side of Ceedee
(26:45):
Lamb who's legit like a nowadays you have a one
A one B, you know, or your number two is
making twenty million dollars, thirty million dollars. So it's a
matter of just finding weapons and then finding another star
running back. When you think of the Dallas Cowboys, like
historically you think of them having star running backs, and
ever since Zeke got hurt and left, they haven't had that.
Speaker 3 (27:05):
Yeah. I don't know.
Speaker 4 (27:07):
I don't want to get off the Cowboys just yet,
but I do wonder you mentioned wide receiver. I heard
somebody tell me that they're probably gonna draft one at twelve.
Speaker 3 (27:17):
Do you think that's the move? What about the offensive line?
Speaker 8 (27:19):
Will?
Speaker 3 (27:20):
I mean, it's kind of in shambles.
Speaker 11 (27:22):
Yeah, I mean, I think there's ways to address the
offensive line schematically, but you got it. You still got
to get playmakers, man, you definitely do. And you can
get an offensive line, you can get great blocking, but
if you've got another receiver that can't get off the line,
that can't get open, and so everyone's so focused on
Ceedee Lamb. And let's say you don't get a runner back,
(27:43):
you still can't run the football. You got to get
play makers for Dak so you can get the ball
at his hands.
Speaker 4 (27:47):
All right, let's stick with the draft and this Travis
Hunter stuff. Travis Hunter says, I can play every snap.
Speaker 3 (27:53):
In an NFL game. Well, you played cornerback.
Speaker 4 (27:57):
You could go out tackle Derrek Henry ten times in
a game for five times and then I'm gonna go
catch passes and run routes.
Speaker 11 (28:03):
Like if I'm if I'm a cornerback and I have
to hit Derry Henry, I'm gonna be hot at everybody else,
Like where is my d line and linebackers at Here's
Here's the thing. So I did play both sides in
UH at Boston College, and I was all big East
corner and I was all acc receiver.
Speaker 8 (28:21):
So I and I did play my senior year.
Speaker 11 (28:22):
I did play probably close to one hundred snaps a game,
and I returned kick some punts, so I was always
on the field. I think he can play both sides
of the football in the NFL his career, but to
start on both sides, to play every snap, like I
don't see it happening.
Speaker 8 (28:38):
I can see it.
Speaker 11 (28:39):
Let's say if he's a starter on offense, then I
can see him coming in on you know, in nickel
or dime supplementing on defense, you know. Or let's say
he's a full time starter on defense, I can see
him coming in on on O personnel which is five
wide or one personnel or ten personnel you get four wide, like,
I can see him coming in on situations. But the
(29:01):
main thing is not. It's not a matter of like
his ability that he can't do it. It's a matter of, like,
can he sustain himself durability wise, because you're you're getting
hit by like every game is gonna be like when
they played by U. Every game is like that times
ten because you have guys all over the place who
You're gonna have linebackers that are running for threes just
like you.
Speaker 8 (29:21):
Yeah, you know.
Speaker 11 (29:22):
So it's it's just more so can he do the
m Plus there's gonna be other stars on the team too,
you know what I'm saying, that's gonna be on this position.
Speaker 8 (29:30):
So that's gonna it's really difficult. And I don't think
he will.
Speaker 11 (29:33):
I don't think he can, but I believe he will
play both sides of the football.
Speaker 8 (29:37):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (29:38):
So if we are to assume that Tennessee's taken cam
cam Ward first, right, would you would you agree with that?
Speaker 8 (29:45):
I can. I would say that's a strong possibility.
Speaker 4 (29:46):
Okay, you're the Browns at two, you don't have a quarterback.
Your owner just said we swung and missed on Deshaun Watson.
Travis Hunter's there, Abdul Carter's there. Let's just say trade
back is not an option. What's your move and your
advising stfans key in that front off.
Speaker 11 (30:03):
Yeah, there's no way I'm training back for number two.
You have the most athletic player in the draft and
Travis Hunter right there, and and you're trying to put
butts in the seats.
Speaker 8 (30:14):
I feel like drafting Travis.
Speaker 11 (30:16):
Hunter will have the same impact as if you were
drafting a franchise quarterback in terms of the excitement, you know,
for the team, and in this case, you don't you
don't really want to get a quarterback there because you're
still trying to build this team. As of late, the
trend has been, hey, let me build this football team
and then maybe we.
Speaker 8 (30:34):
Can plug and play a quarterback.
Speaker 11 (30:37):
Like right now, that's Minnesota's in a position where you know,
they had Kirk Cousins, he left, they drafted JJ mccarth
that he got hurt, so they bring in Sam Donald,
who goes off and gets a new deal. Obviously, Aaron
is still out there possibly even though they say that out,
it's still a possibility, but that team is still ready
to go.
Speaker 8 (30:53):
And I just feel like you have to build.
Speaker 11 (30:55):
Your team because if you truly miss on the quarterback
again right now. Then then you missed out on getting
players to build the team or get you get to
ab du Carter because you know you paid Miles all
that money. Who knows what's gonna happen three years from
now if he's still there or you want to pay
him and you have another stud defense at end pass
rusher there. So I think you get the best player
(31:18):
for your team and then later on there will still
be another quarterback you can get it.
Speaker 3 (31:23):
I like that. I just my counter would be, Okay,
that sounds great in theory.
Speaker 4 (31:28):
Yeah, but Kevin Stefanski has been there since twenty twenty.
They went to the playoffs with him, then they went
eight to nine.
Speaker 8 (31:35):
Se Wells who though, Yeah, but who was the quarterback?
Speaker 4 (31:39):
Well, that's the that's the other thing. It was Ben
Roethlisberger the first year. Then it was we'd have to
figure it out. Then it was Deshaun Watson.
Speaker 3 (31:46):
Can you have three? Flacco carried them down the stretch
after a three and fourteen season. Do you think Stefanski
needs to win or could he get run off? If
your thing is we'll figure out the quarterback later, I.
Speaker 11 (31:58):
Don't The quarterbacks is not really on him. That's the
front office that did all that stuff. I think Stefanski
is a really good coach because you know, they're always
in situations where they have a chance to win games.
And the fact that he's had all these quarterbacks come
through and they were still in position to still.
Speaker 8 (32:15):
Win games says a lot about him. So I think
you just.
Speaker 11 (32:18):
Can see again, you you build the football team, you
have to have a good team.
Speaker 8 (32:23):
You know.
Speaker 11 (32:23):
Sirianni was on record saying, like, you know, people aren't
giving Hurts credit because he has all these weapons.
Speaker 8 (32:30):
He's like, well, that's what you do for your quarterback.
Speaker 11 (32:32):
I can't have bleep around him and expecting to play well.
So let me build my football team so that if
we're in situations where we truly need a quarterback, let's
say later down the road, there's a veteran quarterback available. No,
I'm saying like later on, Like let's say, like it
doesn't go well for the next couple of years, but
the football team overall looks good and they're struggling at quarterback,
(32:57):
I don't know, there could be another veteran quarterback later on.
I'm just down the road that you can plug and
play kind of like how your Jets were like, no, no, bliss,
but we truly like I was one of those who
were like, man, everything looks good, and it's like Zach's
just not getting it done. And unfortunately when Aaron came,
he the year of where they were a talented team.
Speaker 8 (33:18):
He got hurt, okay.
Speaker 11 (33:20):
And so I feel like if he did not get hurt,
we would not be having any of this conversation when
they come to him, because that team truly was a
quarterback away from having great success at that time.
Speaker 4 (33:32):
I just you know, you know these billionaire owners, you've
met a few of them.
Speaker 3 (33:36):
Do they have the patience?
Speaker 8 (33:38):
Will?
Speaker 4 (33:38):
Yeah, in a couple of years, we'll find a quarterback.
I mean, we're seeing the New York Giants. They're doing
this band aid with Russell Wilson. I don't think they're
gonna win nine to ten games ago to the playoffs,
and I think Gabe's probably gonna get fired after the season,
right if.
Speaker 11 (33:51):
They if they don't, if they do not get it right. See,
I actually still have them.
Speaker 8 (33:55):
Getting a quarterback. I feel like they have to go,
they have to get They.
Speaker 3 (33:59):
Got russ Amos Winston, and you think they're getting another.
Speaker 11 (34:01):
Quarterback make it a competition, get the best person to
figure it out because they they true. Debo and Shane
are in this position where they truly have to get
the quarterback position right. They have to fix that because
I believe they are on a one year lease. Yeah
if they don't fix that, and only reason why I
say they or maybe another year because they inherited Daniel
(34:21):
Jones like that that wasn't usually when you get a
GM and the head coach, you have to get your quarterback.
Speaker 8 (34:27):
And they never really drafted their guy. They inherited a quarterback.
Speaker 11 (34:30):
And so I think they have a little more time,
but they have to figure that out, and I'm their guy.
Speaker 3 (34:35):
Would you go shoudor at three?
Speaker 4 (34:36):
I would go three because that probably buys you an
extra year or two, right.
Speaker 11 (34:41):
It does because you have a chance to develop him
and all the things that that Shador offers as a
quarterback are the things I prefer. The biggest thing for
me is like his his mindset, Like he he is
a true professional. He's extremely confident. He's the purest pocket
passer in this higher draft. And despite I know they
(35:03):
understand like he takes a lot of sacks, but he
was truly trying to make the plays, and he has
an unbelievable completion percentage, and it's just all the things
that you want. People get so caught up and enamored with,
like the crazy big throws and this talent, this arm talent.
But at the end of the day, if you can't process,
if you can't understand what's going on, if you don't
he doesn't have a line or run game. And he's
(35:24):
still threw for four thousand, over four thousand yards beach
press and he does not turn the bowl over. So
my offensive coordinator at Boston College, Dana Bible, you know,
we asked him, like, what do you love about He said,
what's the one thing you want about quarterbacks?
Speaker 8 (35:39):
He said, I want completions? Like completions.
Speaker 11 (35:41):
Yeah, and this whole this whole patent of ball thing,
which is which is non sense.
Speaker 4 (35:47):
One of your brother in a defensive back I believe
for my Jets said he's.
Speaker 3 (35:51):
Patting the ball.
Speaker 11 (35:51):
We're gonna read that, which means absolutely nothing. It helps
with it helps with timing everyone, it's with timing.
Speaker 8 (35:59):
It's funny. I went back can watch Jameis Winston's pro day.
Speaker 11 (36:02):
He did not pack the ball once and homeboy right now.
And I'm not a Jamis fan, but he has since
he's been drafted.
Speaker 8 (36:10):
He has to on the most picks. Yeah, everyone passed
the ball.
Speaker 11 (36:13):
I played with five, I played at Rogers, I play Eli,
I play at Russell.
Speaker 8 (36:17):
Everyone passed the ball the day Red tyed recatch.
Speaker 3 (36:20):
Yeah, packed the ball right before you threw it.
Speaker 8 (36:25):
Pat.
Speaker 3 (36:26):
Let's see here, Aaron Rodgers do we have to talk about?
I know you're kind of friendly with him, right, it
was kind of that's my dog.
Speaker 8 (36:33):
I'm not going.
Speaker 4 (36:34):
So did you hang with him recently at that football thing?
And I got invited to that but I couldn't go
kids sports? Did you talk to Aaron? What? What?
Speaker 3 (36:42):
What's going on with him?
Speaker 11 (36:43):
That's no, it's not private. That's it's kind of like,
I'm not gonna he's getting talked the ball all day.
Last name I do was like, hey, man, you go
in Pittsburgh?
Speaker 8 (36:52):
Are you gonna go? Like, come on, man, I'm not.
Speaker 3 (36:56):
Obviously not a journalist. Will should have just been grilling him.
Speaker 11 (36:59):
Well I have, Well, here's my here's my journalist is
that I did hear that.
Speaker 8 (37:05):
The Browns are not going quarterback? I heard that at
too Yep.
Speaker 4 (37:10):
Episode Travis Hunter most likely interesting did you hear that
from Miles Garrett?
Speaker 3 (37:16):
I know what the Browns are doing.
Speaker 4 (37:18):
But anyways, fine, let's since he's your guy, Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 8 (37:23):
I'm critical but fair.
Speaker 4 (37:25):
Should he pick Pittsburgh or wait for like another quarterback
to get hurt and go to a better team.
Speaker 11 (37:30):
I mean, I think right now, like the cool thing
is like Mike Tomlin is totally respected and he respects everybody,
you know, guys like Aaron Rodgers. So he's kind of
like like take your time, like do your thing, Like
I'm not going to put pressure rush you, like none
of that stuff, like take your time, do your thing.
He already met with them several times. Sure they're having conversations.
The whole thing with Aaron playing catch or throwing passes
(37:52):
with DK metcalf is is. I wouldn't even I'm not
going to overlook that, like like crazy, okay, because DK
runs routes at UCLA every year, like that's what he does.
Speaker 8 (38:06):
He'll throw it at.
Speaker 11 (38:06):
Russell sometimes, he'll throw an air sometimes whoever's there, like
all the guys that they work out together. So I'm
not gonna sit there and be like, oh, you know,
he's training with DK, so that's probably what he's going there.
It's like they'll be in LA.
Speaker 3 (38:17):
No big deal. All right, two more quick ones. So
the cornerback from Michigan.
Speaker 8 (38:21):
Yeah, when he studied him, Yes.
Speaker 4 (38:23):
It sounds like there's he was quiet on him for
a while. Now there's momentum. Now he's going top ten.
What have you heard anything about Well, do you love
him as a prospect?
Speaker 11 (38:31):
No, I think I think he's outstanding. He has just
that pure confidence in terms of like like a true cornerback,
and he does a great job of finding the football,
So I think just overall he has that just that calm,
quiet confidence where man covers his own coverage. But the
one thing I do love is just his ability to
attack and take the football away.
Speaker 8 (38:50):
He's a game changer.
Speaker 11 (38:51):
So he's been CB one for a while and so yeah,
I definitely see him going very, very high.
Speaker 3 (38:57):
We'll wrap up with this. So you were a fourth
round pick out of BC.
Speaker 4 (39:03):
Have you ever had any boddies whether did they get
the green room invite? Because Jaln Molroe got an invite
and accepted it and a lot of people are like,
why he ain't going first round? I think that's kind
of sort of a tell that he has some sort
of promise somewhere in the first round.
Speaker 3 (39:18):
What do you what do you do you make of that?
Speaker 11 (39:20):
Yeah, I mean because what is the coaches or something
like that they make that decision on who's there's something
like that. I mean in terms of his like pure ability,
Like I can see somebody trading back into the first
round and maybe maybe doing that, And I think he's
(39:40):
a situation where he's gonna have He's gonna have to
be in the right situation. He's gonna have to have
somebody who truly believes in him and is willing to
coach about It's kind of like like when Lamar came out,
everyone was like, he needs to change positions, he's.
Speaker 8 (39:56):
He needs to do all these other things.
Speaker 11 (39:58):
And in ball I was like, no, we're gonna go
get him at the end of the first round and
we are going to make sure we constructed offense around
him to make him successful. And that's the thing too,
is like a lot of these coaches are they look
at certain players and they're like, man, I don't want
to have to make a project. I want to just
find the guy who's already ready to go. Carolina did
that with Cam Newton. They were like, we're gonna cater's
(40:20):
you do, get you cater your offense to your player.
You're not gonna make a player get it to your
offense is not going to work. So I can see
somebody who's like, hey, man, like I see this and
I want to make it work.
Speaker 3 (40:31):
Hmm. Would you have advised him to go to the
green room or.
Speaker 11 (40:34):
No, go to green Bay in the green room if
he's in Green Bay for a long time and he
doesn't get picked that you know.
Speaker 8 (40:42):
I mean I would go. I would say yes, just
for the experience, like, just go, I would just go.
Speaker 3 (40:47):
I'm sure Will Levis feels the same way after he
went to the green room. Yeah, he was left sitting around.
Speaker 8 (40:53):
It was painful to wish I got I wish I
got a green room invite.
Speaker 3 (40:56):
You would have gone, huh. I would sure be a
part of the experience.
Speaker 5 (40:59):
It's like it's a once in a lifetime opportunity. Your
life's about to change forever. And if you're confident enough
that if you don't go and you're still there and
you have a good attitude about it, I think why
not take the take a chance.
Speaker 8 (41:10):
And if you don't get picked, then you know what,
more few to the fire.
Speaker 3 (41:13):
Yes, by the way, did you run better than a
four to three seven forty?
Speaker 8 (41:16):
I didn't. I didn't even train for the combine.
Speaker 3 (41:18):
I ran, which is a natural athlete.
Speaker 11 (41:21):
No, because most of these guys leave to go train
and then they have to still they still credits. I
wanted to graduate. Oh, so I just stayed at BC.
I trained for like a week in Florida. I was
living with Demharster. We trained for Dion with Devin Hester.
Speaker 8 (41:36):
We were the same class.
Speaker 4 (41:37):
He's like the fastest guy ever, but he's the Blaurir,
no question. He's well all right, well Blackman great stuff
as always. Catch him today on speak at five pm
Eastern and.
Speaker 11 (41:47):
You go to Blackman Sellers dot com buy some and
then you're gonna wait for the sample around that's what
