You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
Our number two.
Speaker 4 (00:29):
Here on the Herd, It's me Jason McIntyre joined by
Rachel Nichols.
Speaker 3 (00:35):
We are in for Cowherd.
Speaker 4 (00:38):
Oh boy, I might plugin was not really working there,
but now we're fine. Rachel, I'm about to unveil my
Super Bowl tiers. It's gonna make a certain fandase Very
I'm worried at.
Speaker 5 (00:51):
I'm not gonna lie and where I've seen these tears,
I'm a little worried about you.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
So it's funny.
Speaker 4 (00:55):
Rachel is very caught off guard and she's wearing Chiefs red.
I believe today she was caught off guard yesterday by
the Chiefs in the meeting and like laughing and I.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
Was like, oh yeah, ray sol nice. And then today
when I unveiled my tears, she was really caught off guard.
Speaker 5 (01:09):
So, uh, listen Bruce Taylor swift red by.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
The way, Taylor, apologies yet.
Speaker 4 (01:14):
So Bruce Feldman, my guy, he's coming up in five
minutes talking about Yeah, college football, Notre Dame Miami. We
need to talk a little more about that. Anyways, let
me do my Super Bowl tiers.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
All right, folks, here we go. So we have four
tiers of the teams that can win the Super Bowl.
And let's get started, shall we.
Speaker 6 (01:36):
All right?
Speaker 3 (01:36):
Tier number one faux show for sure.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (01:41):
These teams are the elite, the best of the best.
Baltimore Ravens, no doubt about it, need no explanation. Josh
Allen's Buffalo.
Speaker 3 (01:47):
Bills, the phi let out FIA Eagles, the defending Super
Bowl champs.
Speaker 4 (01:51):
I don't need to explain those three. Now the Niners,
some people are gonna be surprised by. I'm just gonna
let's be obvious. Don't read too much into what happened
last season. They were a mass unit and I know
the wide receiver room has some issues.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
Currently they're gonna be fine. Okay.
Speaker 4 (02:06):
This is a schedule based prediction. That's why they're Super
Bowl contenders. I also like the move bring back Robert
Sala go look at the quarterbacks they face this year, Guys,
it is a cakewalk.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
They should be fine.
Speaker 4 (02:19):
I think they'll probably get the number one or two
seed in the NFC. The forty nine ers should be
in the four shore super Bowl contender list. All right,
let's go to the second tier, a little larger, a
little more robust.
Speaker 3 (02:31):
The Green Bay Packers.
Speaker 4 (02:33):
Yes, I have the Packers in the four reel category,
joined by the Atlanta Falcons.
Speaker 3 (02:39):
I don't mind revealing.
Speaker 4 (02:41):
When I was in Vegas last week, I bet the
Falcons to win the division and yes, win the NFC.
Admit of a flyer.
Speaker 3 (02:48):
The offensive line injuries has me concerned right now.
Speaker 4 (02:50):
But nevertheless, Denver Broncos in the four reel category. That
defense should be the best in the league. And I
think the Nicks Peyton combo is much better than I thought.
La Rams fourth in the four reel category. They probably
could get bumped up to one now that Stafford's fine,
but as Rachel noted, the left tackle situation some cause
(03:10):
for concern.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
And I'm gonna put the Bengals here because.
Speaker 4 (03:13):
Burrow's not gonna stop chucking and duccin he is just
going to keep throwing to keep the Bengals in every game,
and I do believe offense should keep them in the
super Bowl contending category. Let's go to the third tier
of super Bowl contenders. Hey, there they are.
Speaker 5 (03:27):
Here we go for now.
Speaker 4 (03:29):
The Kansas City Chiefs are a super Bowl contender. Yes,
I had them missing the playoffs. Yes, the tackles are
an issue. I don't care how good the Ohio State
kids looked in practice.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
Is a long season, folks. The running back situation is
dicey Travis Kelcey not gonna use the washed word. Oops,
I just did.
Speaker 4 (03:48):
I think he'll be okay, But let's see, it's a
full season in the playoffs. And then, of course the defense,
I mean, Jalen Hurts just put a number on them
in the Super Bowl and you look at that tape
of that and you're like, oh, there's holes all all
over the place. I have Detroit in four now, I
also have them missing the playoffs. I know that's gonna
make people upset Washington in the four Now.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
As we talked about yesterday, Rachel.
Speaker 4 (04:09):
Noted, the defense is very old, has a lot of questions.
Speaker 3 (04:13):
I think the offense keeps them in gains and I'm
gonna have the Chargers here. I really like the Chargers.
Speaker 4 (04:17):
They're a bit more sleeper now that Slater's out for
the season. Let's go to the final category, super Bowl contenders.
For your consideration, the Arizona Cardinals.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
I have them in the playoffs. Houston, Texas, I just
don't love them.
Speaker 4 (04:31):
They got entire new offensive line. Yes, the defense will
keep them in gains, Yes, the divisions, but that offensive
line has me really nervous. I have Jacksonville here, They're
my surprise team in the AFC. I think that offense
isn't going to rival the Bengals, but I think it's
gonna be very, very good.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
And oh my gosh, this this can't be real.
Speaker 4 (04:54):
And then finally, for your consideration, the Minnesota Vikings. Yes,
I'm buying ja Jim McCarthy and those are my Super
Bowl contender tears. So listen, there's some news breaking.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
I don't know is this? Are we sure about this?
Speaker 4 (05:09):
Come on, guys, I don't want to go with that
if it's not accurate. So let's bring on Bruce Feldman,
my guy college football analyst covers the sport for Fox.
Bruce in his just awesome family room there, looking sharp
as ever. New haircut ready for the season, Bruce, what's
the excitement level for you?
Speaker 3 (05:29):
Texas Ohio State.
Speaker 7 (05:32):
Can't wait? Jason.
Speaker 6 (05:33):
I mean, this is the best week one we've ever
had in college football. You have a one verse two
matchup as obviously you remember Texas was knocked out of
the playoff last year by the buck Eyes, and now
you have the arch manding factor.
Speaker 7 (05:46):
You have new coordinators.
Speaker 6 (05:48):
At Ohio State on both sides of the ball, including
Matt Patrischut's never really coached in college football and now
he's got to defend.
Speaker 7 (05:54):
Arch That's huge.
Speaker 6 (05:56):
You got two other top ten matchups later that weekend.
Speaker 7 (06:01):
I mean, it's all right.
Speaker 4 (06:07):
Let me just quickly ask about this Matt Patricia. He
is the rocket scientist if memory serves from his days
in New England Detroit, Matt Patricia kind of a divisive figure.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
But as you said, he's had all off season.
Speaker 4 (06:21):
To prepare for Art. He's also got maybe the best
defensive player in the country and Downs. I think they
kind of bottle up the Texas offense here. Bruso, what's
your read on that one.
Speaker 6 (06:31):
It's going to be interesting to see what kind of
answers does he have. Does he do a lot of
what Jim Knowles, who was the offense the defensive cordinator
last year, did it such a good job for Ohio State.
As you mentioned, Caleb Downs, their safety. I think he's
the best defensive player in the country. He's just a
unique chess piece because he's so smart and what they
can do with them. They have two elite linebackers who
are really special athletes in sunny styles and r bel reeves.
Speaker 7 (06:54):
The d line is mostly new right. They have talent there,
but it's new guys.
Speaker 6 (07:00):
The part that I think I'm most curious about in
this game is it's not just Arch. It's four new
starters on the offensive line. You lost a top ten
pick who's now with the Saints at left tackle. It's
a lot of new guys and it's a tough road environment.
I mean, we'll see how Patricia does, you know, long
term this season. It reminds me a little bit of
(07:22):
a similar situation Texas faced early last year on the
road when they went to Michigan.
Speaker 7 (07:27):
Wink Martindale, who hadn't been in college.
Speaker 6 (07:30):
He stepped in at Michigan and it was a mismatch
Sark versus Wink Martindale early in the year. Sark's still
there is a more mobile quarterback, albeit less experience, in
Quinn Eewers. And it's also a new offensive line though,
and that's the part where I'm fascinated to see how
Arch does behind a new group that is going to
(07:50):
be feeling its way out in a very hostile setting.
Speaker 4 (07:53):
Let me ask you, Bruce, are you surprised that Arch
did not throw a pass at all in the SEC
championship game or.
Speaker 3 (08:00):
The two playoff games?
Speaker 4 (08:01):
They had a couple of running packages for him, but
not one pass. To me, to an outsider, that's kind
of a lack of confidence in him getting it done
in a big spot. Or was there dynamic with Queen
Youwers that maybe I don't understand.
Speaker 7 (08:15):
No, I just think it's in the moment.
Speaker 6 (08:17):
Look when in mid season Georgia comes in there and
they are slaughtering Texas, they bench Ewers, give Arch a chance.
Arch gave him a spark for a second, and then
Georgia just overwhelmed him too.
Speaker 7 (08:30):
I think I wouldn't.
Speaker 6 (08:31):
Read too much in anything that happened last year with
that Texas team. You know, remember the year before Texas
came very close to playing for the national title. They
lost to Washington and Michael Pennix. You know, it wasn't
like yours is a scrub. Yours has played a lot.
You know, he operated well at times in the offense,
(08:53):
and I think it was just about like, hey, let's
make sure when Arch is really ready, he's ready to go.
Speaker 7 (08:58):
And I think having an all a full off season
to kind.
Speaker 6 (09:02):
Of grow into this position and get ready, I think
it's probably ideal for them. But I you know again,
I wouldn't you can always second guest play callers on
both sides of the ball. I wouldn't, you know, see Starkeys,
it's as good as there is in college football, especially
in like third down stuff and different you know things.
Obviously you can hindsight his twenty twenty I'm sure there's
(09:22):
a bunch of.
Speaker 7 (09:23):
Calls in that game.
Speaker 6 (09:23):
Sark would have loved to have back, but credit to
Jim Knowles, he had answers.
Speaker 4 (09:28):
Yeah, let's go to Miami. Notre Dame obviously a rich
history between these two.
Speaker 3 (09:33):
I'm on the.
Speaker 4 (09:33):
Irish here, but there are some questions about Notre Dame
a quarterback.
Speaker 3 (09:37):
Their defense is stacked love the running back. Where are
you on this matchup.
Speaker 6 (09:42):
Yeah, it's not just the running back you're talking about.
Jeremiah Love is fantastic. That running back room is deep
behind him, JD.
Speaker 7 (09:48):
Price. They have some young backs they really like. But
again CJ.
Speaker 6 (09:51):
Carr, you know he's a talented passer, but this is
his first big test, right And they're going to Miami
and this is a completely new defense. And I'm not
saying how it's going to go for Matt Patricier or not.
But in Corey Heatherman, we have a much more experienced
college defensive coordinator who's stepping in. Miami was awful on
defense last year. They were explosive on offense with cam Ward.
(10:14):
I think Miami is going to be much improved this
year because of the defensive side of the ball. And
I think everything I've heard at a Coral Gables has
been very positive on how Corey Heatherman has changed things.
I think this is a tricky spot for the Irish.
They're talented, as you said, but again, new quarterback. That
place can be pretty loud. It's not the old Orange Bowl,
(10:36):
but ask players on the Notre Dame team that got
blown off the field like forty eight to seven, Like
when Manny Diaz was there. That place can get loud
in the right spot, and I expected to later this weekend.
And again, Carson Beck is now the starter at Miami.
There's been a lot of positive reports coming out of
(10:57):
there from the coaches I know there.
Speaker 7 (10:59):
They have a really good offensive line.
Speaker 6 (11:01):
I would not at all be surprised if Miami beats
them this weekend.
Speaker 3 (11:04):
All right.
Speaker 4 (11:04):
I got to ask Bruce, You're like, the coach is
a positive on Carson back. Have you ever got preseason
negative stuff from coaches on a quarterback?
Speaker 6 (11:11):
I bet, yeah, definitely it's oh it's you definitely do.
But those are the things you shy away from bringing
up and saying, oh yeah, coaches are kind of skittish,
skittish about this guy. I mean, maybe some of the
stuff you talk about around it may come up, but
there's definitely a bunch of stuff where you end up
in the back of your head and sometimes you talk
about it. You know, we have a podcast where we'll
(11:33):
talk a little bit more about the stuff I might
be concerned about at Ohio State or the stuff I
might be concerned about on this team of that team.
Speaker 7 (11:40):
But you know, you kind of balance all the information
you get.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
Okay, So does Beck lose the game with a pick
or stripsack fumble? How does he blow this one? I
just don't have a lot of faith in the guy.
Speaker 4 (11:52):
And this is coming from somebody last year at this
time who was like, oh yeah, Carson Beck, he's got
to be the favorite to go number one in the draft.
Speaker 7 (11:59):
Yeah, I know.
Speaker 6 (11:59):
I can get so over your skis on the draft
and component of this because that's what people thought.
Speaker 7 (12:04):
And then you know what happened.
Speaker 6 (12:05):
Rock Bauers went to the NFL and Lad McConkie went
to the NFL, and the receiving group beneath him wasn't
very good, and he pressed. I mean, right now, he's
got a really good offensive line, he's got an elite
running back in Jordan Lyles, and they have a lot
of young talent at receiver.
Speaker 7 (12:22):
So you know, again, I know this.
Speaker 6 (12:27):
The Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Munkin, who had Beck early on,
was very effusive in how smart he is, how quick
his release is and all those things. I mean, look,
give a lot of credit also to Shannon Dawson, Miami's
OC because going into last year, the NFL had a
fifth round grade on cam Ward. Where did he end
(12:48):
up getting drafted a couple of months ago. First, overall,
I'm not saying it was it was all Shannon Dawson.
But Shannon Dawson the offense quarter and knows what he's doing,
and I would expect Carson Beck will have a pretty
big year in this system.
Speaker 4 (13:00):
That's good insight. Let's go to the other matchup LSU Clemson.
Another bet that I made was Clemson undefeated regular season.
Obviously if they clear this hurdle or favored the rest
of the way.
Speaker 3 (13:11):
I'm just curious.
Speaker 4 (13:12):
This is a battle of these quarterbacks who everybody seems
to like for the draft next year. Club Nick and Nussmeyer.
Where are you on these two heading into the season.
Speaker 7 (13:22):
I like them.
Speaker 6 (13:22):
I think they're both really smart quarterbacks. They don't have
like great size. Nuss Meyer's more of a gun slowinger
coaches kid, you know. I think both guys are really
good leaders. They see the field really well.
Speaker 7 (13:36):
The part that we.
Speaker 6 (13:38):
Need to see a big step up from them is,
especially with Garrett Usmeyer, is how they play against ranked teams.
You look at the numbers, they were not good. Neither
guy was really good, but Garrett really struggled and now
a little like arch Manning, he's got an entirely rebuilt
offensive line. They had four offensive lineen who play eight
(14:00):
in the Senior Bowl, including you know, the Patriots top
five pick Will Campbell. So now you got to rebuilt
offensive line. That place is going to be even more
hostile at night than what you're going to have in Columbus.
And unlike the Buck guys, this defensive line Clemson has.
Peter Woods was one of my highest guys on my
Freaks list. I think he'll be a top five pick.
He's a three hundred ten pound defensive tackle who runs
(14:22):
for eight five. They have like three other guys on
the defense who I think will be top forty picks
next year. And then they have another guy, Sammy Brown,
who when he's able to come out for the draft,
I think he's going to go really high as a
linebacker who can run, who can run like the win.
Speaker 7 (14:38):
Tom Allen's a new defensive coordinator.
Speaker 6 (14:40):
I think this is a big upgrade from what Clemson
had on defense last year. I'm a little nervous about
the Clemson pick now because now I see that you're
on the vandwagon National.
Speaker 7 (14:50):
God as soon as you said it, my kind of
rolled back.
Speaker 4 (14:53):
Well, I'm not going to lie like I've been down
on Dabo for Dabbo for a couple of years now
since you he refused to go to the portal, and
then you came on my podcast you were like, broll,
this defensive line is filthy. I'm worried for Nusmeyer. In
the opener, I think he could be under some pressure.
So you have Clemson as number one in your college
football playoff seatings.
Speaker 3 (15:13):
Huh.
Speaker 7 (15:14):
I do you know a couple of things.
Speaker 6 (15:17):
As I mentioned Tom Allen, everything I've heard has gotten
the defense much more in stinct.
Speaker 7 (15:21):
They were like out of it last year.
Speaker 6 (15:23):
They had some players, you know, some inexperience in key spots.
As I said, now, Sammy Brown is a second year player.
He was a true freshman playing a lot last year
in a key role. The other big thing is when
Clemson was winning national titles, they had elite receiver play.
That's when even right before when the program started to
get closer, when Taj Boyd was putting up big numbers,
(15:45):
they had elite receivers. They dropped off in the last
few years. The receiver room is backed closer to where
it used to be. You know, Bryant West West co
is a big time guy. They have three guys there
who are really big athletic playmakers. How Klubnick has continued
to mature. He showed he s some playmaking ability. We
saw that at times last year and again, you know,
(16:08):
they did go in the portal a little bit, or
they have a good defensive end.
Speaker 7 (16:11):
They took from Purdue.
Speaker 6 (16:12):
I feel like everybody got a good player from doing
They were awful last year, but still they you know,
I like where Clemson is now. I would caution people
on this, Like last year Clemson got blown out by
an SEC team in the opener by Georgia.
Speaker 7 (16:27):
LSU lost their opener.
Speaker 6 (16:28):
Brian Kelly's never won an opener since he's been at LSU.
Clemson made the playoff even without you know, like you
can stumble out of the gate and still have a
really good season. The thing to watch for for me
on the LSU side, I think LSU's really talented. They
got a ton of freaky athletes in the receiver room
for neus Meyer.
Speaker 7 (16:49):
But Brian Kelly's put so much in this game.
Speaker 6 (16:51):
You know, he's put Clemson Tiger pauls all over the
facility just to kind of reinforce how big of a
deal this game is. You lose the game, you do
worry about does some of the air come out of
the balloon? And how do he bounce back from it?
They have you not a big opponent the next week,
but a couple of weeks later they have Florida, and
Florida beat them last year.
Speaker 4 (17:08):
Yeah, anybody watching, he has his predictions on the screen
for the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (17:14):
Seven is Iowa State?
Speaker 6 (17:15):
Now?
Speaker 3 (17:16):
Was that before or after their win over Kansas?
Speaker 7 (17:19):
That was before?
Speaker 3 (17:19):
Really?
Speaker 7 (17:20):
That was before? Yeah. Look, Matt Campbell's a really good coach.
Speaker 6 (17:24):
When I spoke to him for a while this summer,
one of the things that he stressed is, you know,
five years or so ago, they had the best season
in Iowa State history. They finished number nine. Then the
culture of the program kind of got.
Speaker 7 (17:35):
Away from them a little bit for a variety of reasons.
Speaker 6 (17:38):
He was telling me and talking to some of the
players inside the program. You know, he's got rock Obeck,
Anthony Beck's son, who is just a gamer. He's a
really tough kid. He makes finds a way to make
plays in the clutch. He's just got like kind of
the winner quality to him, and he ended up beating
out an Elite eleven, you know, higher rank to recruit
JJ Cole and ended up transfer and out for the
(18:01):
job and hung onto the job.
Speaker 7 (18:03):
And I think it's a big deal.
Speaker 6 (18:05):
Like he talked about how much Rocobec has helped in re.
Speaker 7 (18:09):
Establishing the culture there.
Speaker 6 (18:10):
You saw it last week when he trusted his guy
on fourth and three in a tough spot with a
little over two minutes left. He went for it and
it paid off. And again Matt Campbell over the last
couple of years has been one of the most conservative
coaches when it comes to going for it on fourth down,
and he was like, scrap that. I trust my guys
to come through.
Speaker 7 (18:30):
They did.
Speaker 6 (18:31):
I'm not saying they're running the table, but I think
they're going to win the Big twelve.
Speaker 7 (18:34):
And I do think they'll be a playoff.
Speaker 3 (18:36):
Yeah, I don't think Texas Tech in there anywhere. Bruce,
that's my long shot to make the playoffs. But I
just see Arizona State. We love that team. Quarterback coach
Texas Tech, any thoughts can they can they sneak in?
Speaker 6 (18:49):
I mean, they spent a ton of money on the portal.
They got a big budget. They've upgraded on both lines.
Speaker 4 (18:54):
Now.
Speaker 6 (18:54):
Quentin Joyner, who was at USC last year, really their
most talented running back. As we reported, you know, a
couple of days ago, he's out for the season with
an injury. That's going to hurt them because now they
have two, you know, largely unproven backs who're gonna have
to shoulder the load. We'll see how this is going
to go. I mean, I think they'll be pretty good.
(19:15):
I don't know if they to me. The gap between
all these teams and the Big twelve is so close,
you know, I just think that there's there's nobody who
has Ohio State, Penn State, you know, LSU, Georgia kind
of talent in this It's not even close.
Speaker 7 (19:31):
Like so in here, it's very bunchie.
Speaker 6 (19:33):
It's like which quarterback do you trust the most and
which which team can just kind of go on a roll.
Speaker 7 (19:39):
Last year Arizona.
Speaker 6 (19:40):
State, I felt like they fed off Camp Skataboo's energy
and they went from being the team everybody thought was
at the bottom to win in the whole winning the
whole conference and then almost knocking Texas out of the playoffs.
You know, so I like Kenny Dillingham. I think he's
a great fit there. You know, I think there'll be
the other team in the playoff, but you never know
what the twelve.
Speaker 7 (20:00):
The teams you think are.
Speaker 6 (20:01):
Going to be really good just bottom out, and the
teams you don't expect much from they end up surging.
Speaker 3 (20:06):
All right, Last one, real quick up.
Speaker 4 (20:07):
Bryce Underwood is the new quarterback at Michigan. This is
the kid who got like a ton of money, right,
wasn't he heavily recruited by some some donor. He flipped
from LSU to Michigan. What's the status on the Wolverines here.
Speaker 7 (20:22):
Yeah, he's going to be the guy.
Speaker 6 (20:23):
I mean, he's six six four two point thirty, can
really run. You know, he was the top ranked high
school quarterback in the country last year. He's got, you know,
high level playmaking skills. Everybody down there is excited about him.
But he's still a true freshman quarterback. The thing that
would that would give me pause about him is he's
a true freshman quarterback and there is not a ton
(20:45):
of elite talent around him.
Speaker 7 (20:47):
On offense.
Speaker 6 (20:48):
He does not have anything close to what Penn State
has in the running back room. He has nothing close
to what Julian's saying at Ohio State has from the
receiver room. You know, the all line is not what
it used to be when JJ McCarthy was playing behind it.
Then they had like one of the best old lines
in the country. I think right now it's pretty good,
but I don't know if it's any more than that.
Speaker 7 (21:10):
Last year it wasn't even that, you know.
Speaker 6 (21:12):
And by the way, last year they had Kalel Mullings
who they leaned on and really won some games for them.
That guy's gone. I think they're more of an eight
and four kind of team. I'm fascinated to see how
he does. You have a new offensive coordinator, Chip Lindsay
comes in. I don't expect them to throw it all
over the yard, but they couldn't pass it at all
last year. I think they will be able to throw
(21:32):
it some because you have a guy who last year
they wanted Alex Orgy, who is like similar size, really athletic,
probably not as instinctive of a runner, and struggled as
a passer, and they did not have difference makers outside.
Speaker 7 (21:49):
You know, Colston Levelin was a really good tight end,
but he got banged up.
Speaker 6 (21:54):
It's hard for me to look at Michigan and say, oh, yeah,
they're anywhere near as.
Speaker 7 (21:57):
Good as Penn State or Ohio State. I don't feel
like that right about right now, about them, all.
Speaker 3 (22:03):
Right, Bruce Feldman, Fox Sports, great stuff, he's king of
college football.
Speaker 4 (22:08):
Enjoy the opener, Bruce. Everybody will be watching you and
following you online. Thanks buddy, Thanks you all right. Great
stuff for Bruce Feldman. Now, folks, I don't want to
sound like a five alarm fire, but we have major
seismic news. Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift are engaged.
Speaker 5 (22:30):
Do I mean to do the alarm? So teenage girls
at home?
Speaker 3 (22:37):
Yeah, people are freaking. My wife's just texted me about it.
Speaker 4 (22:39):
So Taylor Swift's I guess Instagram post your English teacher
and your gym teacher are getting married with a stick
of dynamite.
Speaker 3 (22:48):
Congrats to the happy couple.
Speaker 4 (22:51):
Maybe we'll do a little more on this later in
the show or the entire final hour.
Speaker 3 (22:54):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (22:55):
We may have to bump a guest to bring on
like a wedding plan. I don't know what the game
plan is. There is no playbook for this, but maybe
we'll get Colin to call in and offer his thoughts.
Speaker 3 (23:05):
On the couple. Remember when people thought this was a.
Speaker 4 (23:08):
Hoax, they were like, oh, this is a fake relationship.
Remember that nonsense.
Speaker 5 (23:11):
Yeah, but you know, real swifties knew the truth.
Speaker 3 (23:14):
They knew.
Speaker 4 (23:15):
Yes, by the way, you and your family, did you
guys see Taylor Swift out here so far? Of course
we did.
Speaker 5 (23:19):
I got two teenage daughters. Come on, this is like
Target Demo Central.
Speaker 3 (23:23):
I'm not gonna lie.
Speaker 4 (23:24):
I know our audience is like ninety percent men, but
I'm gonna be real.
Speaker 3 (23:28):
I went to the concert. It was fire. It was amazing,
the best concert I've ever seen.
Speaker 5 (23:32):
I would say this for all the guys out there
listening to this news, this is a reminder to shoot
your shot. Okay. Because Travis Kelcey wanted to meet Taylor Swift.
He thought she was pretty obviously one of the smart
most successful women in the world, and went to the
stadium during her concert to try to meet her. Didn't
(23:52):
work out, so instead he went on his own podcast
and put out the call and just said into the air,
I would like to go out with Taylor Swift. Taylor, please,
I want to go out with you. And it worked.
It worked, Jason, Yeah, shoot your shot. It's never too
long a shot.
Speaker 4 (24:10):
So, by the way, Rachel, our staff is now saying
that you are wearing Taylor Swift red, which you announced
in the first hour. I did, and then they got
engaged in the second hour. Are you do you know something?
Do you want to tell us anything?
Speaker 8 (24:23):
Nothing?
Speaker 5 (24:23):
We're gonna talk about on TV.
Speaker 4 (24:25):
All right, coming up next, we'll just tear up the
rest of the show and just do Taylor Swift and.
Speaker 3 (24:29):
Travis Kelcey got engaged.
Speaker 4 (24:30):
Everybody's excited, nobody's fired up, and we'll probably talk about
Michael Parsons too, because this is a sports show.
Speaker 3 (24:36):
That's next.
Speaker 2 (24:42):

time to discuss. And the fact that we've been friends

that says something, right, So check us out. We like

Speaker 3 (25:50):
Oh, the excitement is just through the roof here at Fox.
Everybody's fired up.
Speaker 4 (25:56):
Taylor Swift, Travis Kelcey engaged, believable.
Speaker 3 (26:00):
Oh that what people are saying, like this is.
Speaker 4 (26:03):
Going to be the next royal wedding here, I mean,
whenever they set the date. I got one of our
guys here on the stage was like, I know who
I'm not drafting in fantasy any guy who's ever been part.
Speaker 3 (26:14):
Of wedding playing kind of involved and you can only
do so much. Yeah, sure, sure, whatever you want. I
do need to ask.
Speaker 4 (26:21):
So, according to the Associated Press, Rachel, yes, they have
been dating for two years. Yes, I don't know how
personal you want to get, but before you were married,
how long did you date the guy you ended up marrying.
Speaker 5 (26:36):
I'm a little different, So I dated the guy I
ended up marrying when I was a teenager at summer camp. Whoa,
And then we didn't see each other for ten years,
and then he tracked me down and found me and
we dated for less than a year before we got engaged.
So it's one of those things where because it worked out,
it's incredibly romantic, and if it hadn't worked out, the
tracking down would have been stocking talk. So well, you know,
(26:57):
we'll never know.
Speaker 3 (26:58):
I was about to say, so, is he a official
stalker or.
Speaker 5 (27:01):
Facebook or fantastic? And you know, did I'm married for
twenty some of the years.
Speaker 3 (27:06):
That's congratulations.
Speaker 4 (27:07):
The whole like two years seems like OKOD, But I
don't know if they've lived together.
Speaker 3 (27:12):
I know that the old school. People are gonna be like, no,
can't live together.
Speaker 4 (27:15):
I highly recommend living together before you get married. I
don't know if these two have because a little do
you want to share any insight onto that one or No?
Speaker 5 (27:24):
I believe that they have lived in each other's homes, meetings,
and a weekend is different than living. I don't think
it's been a weekend. So they did did you did
you listen to the two hour podcast?
Speaker 3 (27:36):
No, my wife and daughter did.
Speaker 4 (27:38):
I was just like checking in from the other room
watching Hunting Wives on low volume.
Speaker 5 (27:44):
So, by the way, I can't believe you're looking down
your nose at Taylor and Travis because you were watching
hunting mobs. But we'll get back to that. No, they
were talking all about like what they do at home.
She's really into baking sourdough at the moment. She has
all these nicknames for her sour doughs that he does
this around the house, she does that around the house.
And to me, the most revelatory things she said about
(28:06):
the NFL and how much she's changed as a football fan,
because of course, you know, there's been a lot of
uproar about how much do they show her on the
screen and why is she in my space and all
of that stuff. She freely admits she's like when we
started dating, I didn't know what a tight end was.
And she made a joke that she thought the quarterbacks
actually faced each other on the field, that all the
players were out at the same time, which, I mean,
(28:27):
you know, it's kind of good. Was in that top
Gun movie.
Speaker 4 (28:29):
Right, that's how we talk about you do say, hey,
quarterback's battling, right, Yeah, you said.
Speaker 5 (28:34):
Patrick Mahomes versus Josh Allen. Yes, whatever. Anyway, but she
has become such a diehard that she said that she
and Travis were in different places during the NFL draft
a year ago and she start running through the house screaming,
we drafted Xavier or were they? And her friends who
were over at the house were like, did someone body
snatch you? I mean, she's clearly into it, and they
(28:57):
spend a lot of.
Speaker 3 (28:58):
Time together before we get to heard line.
Speaker 4 (29:00):
I'm sure you guys have seen the memes, but Travis
Kelce has changed a lot in the last like seven years.
Speaker 3 (29:06):
His look, Yeah, he was like me. He had the
two hoop ear rings.
Speaker 4 (29:09):
He would wear like gold chains, and I saw a
meme that I just started dying of laughter. Was Travis
Kelce used to look like a guy who sold vape
cartridges behind seven to eleven, and now he's marrying the
most famous person in the world, and it's kind of funny.
Speaker 3 (29:22):
Anyways, all right, let's go to Rachel with the news.
Speaker 2 (29:25):
No news, this is the herd Line news.
Speaker 5 (29:30):
The only couple Jason that couldknock Travis Taylor and Travis
and Taylor off the news is Michaeh and Jerry Right,
Michael Parsons Jerry Jones continue their Texas two step ahead
of Week one, both sides still unable to come to
terms on a long term agreement just yet. They haven't
even been talking, according to reports. Dak Prescott, though he's
dealt with this before, he does not seem concerned about
(29:53):
whether Michael will be ready for Week one.
Speaker 10 (29:56):
I've got confidence. I've told you that well way back when,
and I'm just going off of experience honestly, no different
than mine. So I've got confidence in that, just hoping,
which I know he is, he's ready to play. There's
been a case of something similar to this the last
three years, I believe, so if not before, I mean
(30:16):
I guess right now, as I say it, I think
that's uh. People can take it however they want. I
think it's kind of part of the way guys think
and see things around here.
Speaker 5 (30:30):
I mean, according to Micah, he's had a terrible back
injury that's kept him out all three season, so you know.
Speaker 3 (30:35):
He's ready to go.
Speaker 5 (30:36):
We'll see about that. But did you feel listening to
Dak that he was saying, Oh, we've got experience this,
We're good, we can roll with it. Or do you
feel that he was listening to Dak it was we've
got experience. Jerry does this to us every.
Speaker 3 (30:47):
Time that the ladder. Yes, I totally agree. I will
say that that hat that Dak was wearing, did you
see that? Look cool? And I'm one of these weird guys.
I'm not backward, not backward yet it looked cool and Dak.
Speaker 4 (30:59):
Sounds and it's supremely confident, like he was not like,
oh man, we're in trouble is the stinks we got
to get it was just like nothing to see here.
Speaker 3 (31:07):
That was a vibe I got from that.
Speaker 5 (31:08):
Well, he himself, as you mentioned, went through this just
last year, signed on the first day of the season,
so much later even than right now. But you have
to remember, and when I heard some of that exasperation
in his voice, this is what made me think of
is this isn't not just good for the Cowboys bottom line,
It's not good for the team. And that's not a revelation.
But if you look back to last year where Dak
(31:29):
signed on the last day of the season, Ceedee Lamb
signed actually a year to the day ago today, they
started the season one and two and they finished. Of
course we know seven and ten, and I can't say
for sure that all of that your quarterback, you didn't
know what was going on with your quarterback. That didn't
cause an issue in not knowing what's going on with
Micah Parsons. I don't know how that's going to affect them,
(31:50):
not idea, right, I don't know. They've lost a lot
of money doing this too. So you know, Sterry Jones,
he's got plenty. Let's talk a little forty nine coming
off last season's down here San Francisco, hoping to avoid
a complete rebelt. Instead, they're going through this roster reshuffling.
Speaker 6 (32:08):
Right.
Speaker 5 (32:09):
Speaking to Albert Preer, GM, John Lynch said that they've
been taking inspiration from the Rams and Bills, who went
through similar situations over the past couple of seasons, saying, quote,
you're boyd by the fact that we have people that
we respect who did it your picking them as one
of your top four teams to win the Super Bowl.
You believe in the reshuffle.
Speaker 3 (32:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (32:27):
I like this piece by Breer. I read it and
there was a funny rock party quote. Yeah, where he's
like the Bills have Josh Allen, we have Rock Purty.
John Lynch is supremely confident. I'm a rock party guy.
I think I saw him in like the nineties on
that ESPN list, But that's neither here nor there.
Speaker 3 (32:42):
I do think they're gonna be fine again.
Speaker 4 (32:44):
You wouldn't move off those defenders if they were good
last year.
Speaker 3 (32:48):
They were not good last year. I know who.
Speaker 4 (32:50):
Fungo was hurt, but like when he played, he didn't
grade out. It's like having a good season. I think
the forty nine are going to be really good this year.
Speaker 5 (32:59):
I'm worried about the end is the injuries. Yes, the
Wi wide receiver group, I mean they're one injury away
from you and I playing wide receiver and ready running
back hasn't been much better.
Speaker 3 (33:08):
Yeah, there we go.
Speaker 5 (33:09):
Let's talk about the Lions. We want to take too
much out of the preseason, right, Jason, But the Lions
did not play well one in three, getting out scored
by forty six points. Dan Campbell hadn't been like everything's fine,
everything's fine, everything's fine until yesterday, where he admitted wasn't
a great look. Take a listen.
Speaker 8 (33:28):
Practices look really good. I see that. But all of
a sudden, all four of these games have not been good.
That's an issue. Like, I think that's an issue, right,
because all of a sudden, the lights are on and
we're in real games and the coach in and behind you,
and there's no scripts and there's that's a little bit
you know that that could be a little bit concerning.
Speaker 3 (33:48):
I think.
Speaker 5 (33:50):
We knew that there were gonna be issues with both
coordinators leaving, right, especially Dan Campbell, who is considered just
a mad scientist wizard. But there's also been offensive line
into you're reshuffling. I mean, this is definitely a little
bit of a danger zone and a test for Jared.
Speaker 4 (34:04):
Goff right one hundred percent, Like what did he think
was gonna happen when he gets two guys who haven't
been coordinators either ever or in like six years.
Speaker 3 (34:11):
Did he think there was gonna be a seamless transition? Like,
I don't know, Man, Colin is big on Dan Campbell
as like a coach, and I'm like, I don't know
if he's in exes and those guys, like anybody can
walk around when they're stretching and let's go guys far
you know anybody could do that. We're gonna find out
what Dan Kimble's made of this year, Kay, Like we're
(34:32):
I mean, I'm not knocking the guy. I just I
think it's gonna be a real tough one. And the
way they lost that Washington obviously you're a Washington fan.
I was at my son's volleyball tournament watching that and
just dumbfounded by how dumb Detroit looked. Yeah, and I
don't know if golf was concussed it was. That was
such a beat. They give him forty five points.
Speaker 5 (34:51):
Well, that's why I said it's gonna be a test
for him, right, because how much of it the past
couple of years was him, how much it was the coordinator?
How you know, I mean, how much was the line?
We're gonna find out.
Speaker 4 (35:01):
I'm on the Packers, by the way in Week one
minus one and a half at home outdoors against Detroit.
Speaker 3 (35:07):
Rachel with the news.
Speaker 2 (35:09):
Well that's the news, and thanks for stopping by the
Herd line news.
Speaker 3 (35:14):
Boy, I do feel bad.
Speaker 4 (35:15):
Terry McLaurin a big contract yesterday swept under the rug.
You got what was he? There was another deal? Oh,
Trey Hendrickson got a new deal. Boom all dusted.
Speaker 3 (35:25):
You know why because Travis Kelcey and Taylor Swift got engaged.
Speaker 4 (35:30):
So we'll talk more about that. And also Micah Parsons.
You know, it's a sports show. We're gonna try to
do something.
Speaker 2 (35:38):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and neon Easter nine am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 5 (35:47):
Since the moment it was announced, everybody's had this matchup circle.
The arch Manning Era kicks off with the playoff rematch
for the Ages as Number one Texas takes on defending
national champion Number three h high A State on Big Noon. Saturday.
Coverage begins with Big Noon Kickoff live from Columbus at
nine am Eastern Saturday on Fox.
Speaker 3 (36:09):
I can't wait for that one.
Speaker 4 (36:11):
Obviously we'll talk about Michael Parsons here in a second.
Just I'm drilling down on the Taylor Swift. Travis Kelsey,
Oh boy, I mean well, I have to ask Rachel,
are you getting texts from friends about this?
Speaker 3 (36:20):
Because people are into this story.
Speaker 4 (36:23):
Even dudes like who are like in my fantasy football
league are like popping off.
Speaker 3 (36:27):
This is a big deal.
Speaker 5 (36:28):
What rock do you live underneath? This is huge?
Speaker 4 (36:32):
This is large even for diehard sports fans. They're like,
oh my gosh, Travis kelcey, wow, you locked that up.
Speaker 3 (36:38):
You put a ring on it.
Speaker 4 (36:39):
As Beyonce said, now, I am curious this. The engagement
now means wedding next offseason.
Speaker 3 (36:46):
Maybe he retires and gets married.
Speaker 5 (36:48):
This is sort of the thinking, right, He's thirty five,
is turning thirty six, She's I think thirty five, maybe
turning thirty six. What do you think they both seem
to want kids? You know, I'm getting a little personal here,
but what.
Speaker 4 (37:01):
Do you think this does for the rumors that she
might play at the Super Bowl and the twenty whatever?
Speaker 5 (37:07):
I mean, I wouldn't think. I can't imagine that she
would play. First of all, most acts don't play at
the super Bowl until they're more legacy acts, right, because
they can make a lot more money touring on their own, unless.
Speaker 3 (37:18):
Lamar who wants to cross over?
Speaker 5 (37:19):
Well, yes, but the super Bowl doesn't pay you, right,
you pay for your entire own show. So I don't
know if she's doing that. I certainly don't think she's
doing that while he's still playing, because obviously she wants
to watch him play if he's in the game. But yeah,
I mean they're both from you know, she's from Pennsylvania,
he's from Ohio. We know a lot about his family, right,
Mama Kelsey Jason. You know, she's from a very tight
(37:42):
knit family. She's very close to her parents. They both
talked about wanting kids, So doesn't surprise me that as
they both enter their late thirties, this is something they're
thinking about.
Speaker 4 (37:52):
Listen, I'm glad you were in Red and you have
some good insight into this.
Speaker 5 (37:56):
I was ready. Yeah, I'm just going to say that
was ready.
Speaker 3 (37:58):
Stay ready. That's what the co that's always told me
when I was sitting on the bench. Stay ready. J
mac All right, let's go to Michael Parson's real quick.
Speaker 4 (38:05):
So Matt Mosley was on the show yesterday talking about
the Micah Parsons situation, and we saw Trey Hendrickson get
a deal, We saw Terry McClory get a deal. Now
we're just waiting, all right, Michah, can we just can
we get it done now? Maybe Jerry wanted to wait
out Kelsey and Swift. You obviously don't want to be
toppled by that news because that's going to dominate the
news cycle for at least the next twenty four hours.
(38:25):
And then it's like, oh, wedding planners location in all
this dress all that. Sorry for saying it's nonsense, but
it kind of is goofy to sports fans. Anyways, Micah
Parsons and Jerry, it's kind of ugly.
Speaker 3 (38:38):
But Matt Moseley says, uh, Parson's gonna be on the
field for a week.
Speaker 8 (38:41):
One.
Speaker 11 (38:43):
Remember who Jerry is, and remember how much he loves
the pageantry and the circus of all of this, and
the last minute get the deal signed is kind of
a fun thing for him. Dak got one of his
deals done the morning of the first game.
Speaker 3 (39:05):
CD and Zeke's were done four or five days.
Speaker 11 (39:09):
Every one of these holdouts in in the Cowboys capitulating, right,
I mean, name me one that they've won, like, well,
look at the Cowboys, they won this negotiation Zeke Zach.
I mean every CD they all end and the deals
getting done.
Speaker 4 (39:28):
He's spot on there. And it's funny because we've spent
much of the last five months talking about the same stuff.
Speaker 3 (39:37):
With Michael Parsons. Is he gonna sign? How much is
this deal gonna be?
Speaker 4 (39:41):
Oh, he's gonna wait for this guy to sign and
then sign for a dollar or a million more, whatever
it is, and then he's gonna get it done and
it's gonna be week one. He's gonna play, he's not
gonna miss a beat, His back's gonna be fine. And
then I'm just like, why did we fall for this ropodope?
Speaker 3 (39:55):
Is there a way we can build this in so
next year when there's a big name who's dragging it.
Speaker 4 (40:01):
Out, these deals always get done. Is there a way
so we don't have to fall victim to that? And
I guess with the Cowboys, as long as Jerry Jones
is run on the show, this is just how it's
gonna be. It's gonna be a knockdown, drag out battle
till the very last minute. Then it's gonna get done.
Everybody's going to be cheering. It's kumbaya. There were never
(40:22):
any problems. I mean, I don't expect Michael Parsons to
show up for Week one like.
Speaker 3 (40:26):
Ten pounds overweight and not having been working out.
Speaker 4 (40:28):
Of course, he guys are in a specimen in the
prime of his NFL career.
Speaker 3 (40:33):
Of course he's working.
Speaker 4 (40:34):
I mean, I still remember the Dureaux Reevis hold out
with my Jets back in the day. So concerned, Oh
my gosh, because he was on such a cheap rookie deal.
Speaker 3 (40:42):
Was this fifteen years ago? And then he plays weak one?
I mean he was great. This is you know, this
is what these guys do. They're professional athletes.
Speaker 4 (40:50):
They stay ready and so Dallas, I cannot I just
can't get concerned with this Micah Parsons thing. The only
one that could have long term ramifications is what's the
trickle down in the locker room.
Speaker 3 (41:04):
And around the league? Hey man, do you want to
deal with that crap in Dallas or do you want
to go to XYZ where the owner takes care of
you early and quickly. And I know the Jags took
heap for the Trevor Lawrence early extension. Oh what a
bad deal? No no, no, no no, he signed it
super early, below market value at least what it's going
(41:26):
to be when CJ.
Speaker 4 (41:27):
Stroud all everybody else gets paid. It was a smart
business decision by the Jaguars. Imagine that world. The Jags
are making smart business decisions and the Cowboys America's team
is fumbling the bag once again. Like honestly, if you
go look at that Trevor Lawrence here, you're like, Wow,
I'm smart. Get it done early, no drama, Lawrence can
(41:48):
lock in. I mean, that's just that's the way to go.
And Jerry just refuses to do that for the show
of it all, for the Netflix show, for the social
media reactions, so he can put his feet up at
his palace that he lives in and turn on a
TV and see his face.
Speaker 3 (42:07):
And the Cowboys, Yeah, driving up the.
Speaker 4 (42:10):
Value of our franchise. Me doing all this, and to
me it's annoying. I don't like it. Is it bad business?
Speaker 3 (42:17):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (42:18):
The guy's a billionaire. Can I bash him by I
don't think I can. I mean he's clearly been successful.
So Terry McLaurin gets his deal in Washington. He's gonna
stick around with Jayen Daniels.
Speaker 3 (42:28):
Trey Hendrickson gets his deal in Cincinnati, I mean technically
