Speaker 2 (00:21):
Gosh, whoa all right? Hour number two here on the Herd.
You can tell we're fired up. We got juice, so
much good stuff. Cole McCoy, Oh my gosh, longtime NFL quarterback.
And also, oh yeah, he played at Texas?
Speaker 3 (00:36):
Is that right?
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Four year starter? Get one forty five and eight bet Texas.
Speaker 4 (00:42):
I hope you's all listening.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
I still remember when he got hurt against Danna. That's
stump ruin the game. It's terrible, obviously, Texas. Ohio State.
For twenty four hours from now, we'll be in like
the second quarter. Maybe guys, wait until you hear the
bets coming in on this game. We'll do that in
a second. And we got Cardale Jones, the former Ohio State.
Speaker 4 (01:02):
Quarterback, also had a cup of coffee with the Buffalo Bills.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
He's in the final hour. All right, let's just bust
right into it. Three monster games this weekend in college football.
I will fire. I bet two of these in Vegas
and fight. Shouldn't say we're'm betting anyways.
Speaker 4 (01:20):
Here here are my three bets for week one in
college football.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
Let's get started with the big game Texas. Well, actually
that's Ohio State Michigan. Let's just call it a massive game,
the biggest opener in Forever, Texas.
Speaker 4 (01:32):
Ohio State, folks.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
I'm on Ohio State here, and I got a terrible line.
It was Ohio State minus two and a half a
week ago when I.
Speaker 4 (01:40):
Was in Vegas. Ohio State's now an underdog. The line
has flipped.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
Now for the hardcore gamblers out there, it hasn't.
Speaker 4 (01:47):
Crossed through three. Three is the most key number in football. Obviously.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
The games you can go back twenty fifty years end
on three because the field goals.
Speaker 4 (01:58):
Somebody went into going to say the casino but.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
In Vegas this week and laid a five hundred and
fifty thousand dollars bet, yes, over half a million on Texas.
That moved the line at this one casino. Every other
casino then follows, and.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
Now we have Ohio State as an underdog at.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
Home, folks, I love, love, love the Buckeyes here at home.
It's just arch manning height. Or you could call this
dumb money. This is all public money. This isn't sharp betters.
And for everybody who's like, oh my gosh, that's huge money,
you got to take Texas, just take a deep breath.
Speaker 4 (02:36):
Remember no emotions.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
Last weekend, everyone in their mom was on Kansas State
against Iowa State.
Speaker 4 (02:42):
Everybody line's moving Ohio. Kansas State loses, everybody loses.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
Iowa State comes up with a victory. I'm just telling you,
I like Ohio State here. I think it's convincing. I'll
go twenty seven thirteen, and I'm not going to overreact
to Art stinking up the joint. I think it's gonna
be a struggle. Come on, gotta go on the road
for the first start of the season in Columbus. It's
gonna be juiced up in the shoe. I have at
least four friends going that I know of now, and
(03:10):
I'll be texting Liner, my basketball teammate.
Speaker 4 (03:13):
Gonna be a good one on Fox tomorrow at noon.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
Next up, Let's go Clemson and LSU is a good one,
and I'm buying the Clemson hype. I'm going with the
Tigers minus four at home against LSU. At some point,
Brian Kelly's gonna figure out how to win an opener.
I just don't think it's this week. Nuss Meyer, who
(03:36):
we had some good stuff on earlier this week here
from a guest here on the show. He's got a
tall order against this Clemson front. It is really nasty,
and I am going with Caid club, Nick and company
to win. I'll go Clemson thirty one, LSU twenty one
final game. Notre Dame Miami, the Catholics versus the Convicts.
Speaker 4 (03:57):
Are we still calling it that? I don't know that.
Am I gonna get cancel for that? I like Notre
Dame on the road minus two and a half. Carson
Beck returns, but Marcus Freeman is just too good.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
I think he bottles up. The Miami offense is a
slobbery knocker. I'll go seventeen thirteen Irish take down the Cane.
Speaker 4 (04:15):
So those are my three bets. And let's get to
Colt McCoy, former Texas quarterback, former NFL quarterback. You had
a thirteen year career, Colt McCoy. Dude, you look so
comfortable right now. Cole, how you doing? Man?
Speaker 3 (04:31):
You fired up? Am I two castle right here?
Speaker 4 (04:34):
You just look happy.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
I mean, like, dude, I can't wait twenty four hours
from now, Texas, Ohio State. Listen, everybody's talking about Art
maning you know something about being a Texas quarterback. A
lot of spotlight on this game. I don't know, what
do you think the vibe is around arch It's tough
to stay chill with this kind of media.
Speaker 5 (04:54):
Yeah, no question. I mean listen one versus two to
start the season. It doesn't get any better than that
as a fan. In lots of hype around Texas, you know,
playing the defending national champions. You know, I've been to
Columbus one time. I was just holding a clipboard. But
that's a that's a tough place to play, a loud environment.
You know, there's a lot of talent at Texas and uh,
(05:15):
some inexperience.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
It's just going to have to grow up quick.
Speaker 5 (05:17):
But man, I think I think everyone's tired up to
watch this one now.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
Obviously you are one of the biggest Texas guys ever
to play the position.
Speaker 4 (05:25):
There.
Speaker 2 (05:26):
I am curious, have you have you talked to at
all this week, Arch or anyone on the coaching staff
or are you trying to step back and hey, you
guys do your thing. I'm just going to enjoy the game.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
Uh, you know, I've talked to a few guys. I've
talked to Arch. I mean, listen, you know, the the
number one in the country doesn't matter right now. They
are I think.
Speaker 5 (05:45):
They have their site set on, you know, their goals
and and uh, you know, being able to play in
a game like this on the road to start the
season is awesome. But I also don't think it's detrimental
if you were to lose this game eater team. You know,
they're there's a this a long season, and both these quarterbacks,
both these teams are extremely talented. I think Ohio State
(06:08):
probably has the edge in some ways. Right they change coordinators,
they know everything about Texas. Texas staff has remained the same,
and so it's gonna be good on good to start
the first half. And I think out of that you'll
see some adjustments being made by by sark And and
by coach Day. But it's gonna be a fun matchup.
I mean, I think that the quarterbacks are the are
(06:29):
the big one, and you know you're playing on the
road in allowed environment, eliminating mistakes and in every drive
with a kick. Like there's a lot of little coaching
cliches you can use, but it is gonna be It
is going to be electric, that's for sure.
Speaker 4 (06:42):
We'll talk about to Cole McCoy, former Texas quarterbacks.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
So I'm sorry you said you've talked to Art, So
I have to ask, well, you know, is there any
way to detect if he's nervous? I know you, I'm
not asking you to like crush the kid. This is like,
I know, he started a couple of games, but come on, man,
this is really the one. This is the showcase, the
big opening of a guy that we've been hearing about
for like what four years now?
Speaker 3 (07:07):
Yeah, listen, I mean you know, I think you know.
Speaker 5 (07:10):
The message to me was, man, it's about time to
go cut it loose, and that fired me up.
Speaker 3 (07:15):
So this is what you go to Texas to play for.
You get to go to Ohio State, you get to
go play Florida at Florida this year, you.
Speaker 5 (07:21):
Get to go to Georgia, you get to play Oklahoma
and the Cotton Bowl. I mean as a quarterback. Any
kid that's growing up in America. I mean, this is
this is a dream for anybody, and so I think
Archie has done a great job of kind of honing in,
locking in. Is a different football team than it was
last year. There's good leadership, he's waiting his turn, and listen,
there's gonna be ups and downs, for sure. Every quarterback
(07:43):
has them right and so I think, you know for
this game is trust your defense, trust your coaching staff,
trust the guys around you. You've got great running backs,
You've got good tight ends, great receivers. You know, the
offensive line is a little bit inexperience, but but they're
really talented up front. And you know, to the extend
that you can eliminate as much of the distractions as
you can and just go play football. That's that's going
(08:05):
to be, you know, the test. And listen, I mean
there's a there's a last name on his jersey that
that you know that matters. This family has had so
much success and there's such good, good guys and good
representations of all things football. The arts wants to go
create his own he wants to he wants he's his
own guy.
Speaker 3 (08:23):
And I'm fired up to watch.
Speaker 2 (08:25):
I know you get asked about arts a billion times,
but I have to ask this when because Steve Spurriyer
brought it up and then Urban Meyer. I've talked about it,
but I'm not who cares what I say? Do we
know if arch Manning is good? Colt, I mean he's
He's flashed against UTSA and and some lesser programs. He
didn't He famously did not throw a pass against Georgia
(08:47):
in the SEC Championship, did not throw a pass in
the in the playoff like I thought maybe he would
have been used in some kind of packages. They didn't
really do anything. And then spurriy Er said, hey, he
couldn't beat out Quinn Yours. Quinn Yours is a seventh
round draft pick. So what's a tough question. Do we
know if arch Manning is good?
Speaker 5 (09:05):
Listen, you don't know if anybody's good, So they so
they go out there and play right. Like you know,
if you go and play quarterback in Texas outside of me,
you know, I was hardly ranked, but all these guys
are the top quarterback in the country when they come here,
and you all have to go out there and prove it,
you know, and I think he has a great opportunity
to go do that. I mean, I don't I know,
(09:25):
arts pretty decent. I don't think he's thinking about that
at all. I think his one focus right now is
what do I have to do to go beat Ohio State?
Speaker 3 (09:32):
And then what do I have to do the next week?
Speaker 5 (09:34):
And I think he's he's been around the game long
enough to understand, like there's a big difference between talking
about things and going out there and doing.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
It, and so we'll find out.
Speaker 5 (09:43):
I think you look at this matchup saying hasn't played much,
Arch hasn't played much. These teams will really understand their makeup.
When these guys make a mistake, when they turn the
ball over, how they respond, how they answer, that's gonna
be that. That's going to be the test for both teams.
These seems very incredibly talented. It's going to be an
awesome matchup for any fan in the country to watch.
(10:04):
But it's not going to be pretty. It's not gonna
be perfect. I mean, the difference between these guys and
and the NFL.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
There's no preseason.
Speaker 5 (10:11):
You've just been playing against each other the whole time,
and so when when the bullets are lives when the
lights come on, like you got to go play. And
I think I think both teams, both quarterbacks are chomping
at the bit to.
Speaker 3 (10:22):
Just we're finally here, we finally get to go do it.
Speaker 5 (10:24):
Let's go see where we're at and and and that
will determine this game and then you know, moving forward
throughout the year, these both these teams have you extremely
high expectations, as they should, so be fun.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
Uh, you made a point earlier again, this isn't This
is glossed over a lot because everybody's just talking about
Arch Manning versus Jeremiah Smith. Four new offensive linemen for
the long words, now, I don't I don't recall your
offensive line. Did you ever play behind that rebuilt of
a line? And what can we expect out of the
gate from the four new guys?
Speaker 5 (10:55):
Yeah, exactly, I mean throughout my I mean I'm playing quarterback.
You lose one guy and you know you're your backup
comes in. It's kind of you might lose a little
bit of sleep before that's a that's a that's a challenge.
Speaker 3 (11:06):
But I think you know, coach Shark has been a phenomenal.
Speaker 5 (11:09):
I think he's the best in the country at recruiting
and retaining talents and developing that talent. These guys have
waited a long time to play. There was very established
starters on that offensive line last year.
Speaker 3 (11:19):
Some of these guys got reps. But it's gonna be
it's gonna be top. I've been to Ohio State.
Speaker 5 (11:25):
I was holding the clipboard in my freshman year, and
you don't hear a thing. So these guys, you know,
the communication, you're on the silent count. All of that
is a is a real, real issue. And so I
think Texan is the most talented football team in America.
Speaker 3 (11:40):
I don't know that very many people would argue with
me on that, But they lack.
Speaker 5 (11:45):
A little bit of experience, especially upfront, to the extent
they can grow up quick.
Speaker 3 (11:49):
That's gonna be the difference.
Speaker 2 (11:51):
Now I'm looking at your history here and you beat
Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl. Is there any bad
blood between these two ors just they haven't played enough?
Speaker 4 (12:00):
Or is it just like, hey, we all five star
recruits across the board. We're gonna we're gonna beat you up.
Speaker 5 (12:06):
Well, Ohio State's good every year, They're always going to
have talent. I mean, we played in net. Yes the Bowl,
I was lining up against two of the smartest football
players I think I played against. Marcus Freeman was playing linebacker,
James lord nias Is playing linebacker. They had they had
a squad on defense Malcolm Jenkins.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
So every I mean Ohio State there every year is
gonna have talent just like Texas.
Speaker 5 (12:28):
That's why this That's why a matchup like this is
so much fun. But I can tell you one thing,
It's never going to be easy. It's not easy to
go into somebody else's house and beat them, especially when
you're wearing you know, the number one ranking, you know
everywhere you go. So I struck it to be an
incredibly fun game to watch. It's the first game of
the year, probably gonna be a little bit sloppy across
(12:50):
the board, but the team who doesn't turn the ball over,
you know, eliminates the penalties and ends every drive with
a kick is probably going to be the team that
comes out on top.
Speaker 2 (12:59):
Can we take anything away from that Ohio's State Texas
playoff game last year? Or the rosters are just so different.
Two new quarterbacks that we should just like kind of
exit out because Jeremiah Smith did nothing in that game,
memory serves, they kind of schemed him out, but it
didn't matter because they had other dudes exactly.
Speaker 3 (13:18):
I mean, you heard certainly had to account for jeremih Smith.
Speaker 5 (13:22):
I mean, you know, I wouldn't be opposed to putting
two guys on them the whole game and playing with
nine guys on defense and saying, you know, Julian's saying,
beat me, right. But I think Ohio State again I
mentioned this has a little bit of an advantage and
that you know they know Texas scheme. You know, the
coordinators haven't changed Texas on the other side, like Ohio
(13:43):
State may may open up the very beginning of the game,
and you know, different personnel groups, they might show a
different look on defense that you've never prepared for. And
so that you know Washington tablet on the sideline making
adjustments coming out of the house those that's going to
be a big deal, uh, in this first game. But
I mean you can study players, you know players, you
(14:04):
know their skill sets, and so I think I think
from a from a matchup standpoint, is pretty even across
the board.
Speaker 4 (14:10):
Wow, I am looking.
Speaker 2 (14:11):
You're right, Jeremiah Smith one catch for three yards against
Tech Now you guys had the kid Baron who was
a high draft pick.
Speaker 4 (14:19):
Very good. But yeah, but it seems like offensively is
where the struggles were for Texas. They just couldn't get
anything going.
Speaker 3 (14:26):
Yeah, I mean, I don't think they played great on offense.
Speaker 5 (14:29):
And you look, you know, they were at the three
yard line to try to tie the game up late
late in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 3 (14:33):
Right and they were right there.
Speaker 5 (14:35):
And so if anything, I think Texas takes the motive,
motivation and that you know, we you know, they ended
our season last year and we get a crack at
them to start the year this year. I don't know
if that's bad blood, but I know if I was playing,
you know, that would be in the back of my head.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
Have you seen or heard any trash talk, because it's weird.
It's usually the college kids are popping off on social media.
I haven't seen much. There was one comment made that
was not amazing, but I haven't seen much. Are you
surprised by that?
Speaker 3 (15:03):
A little bit? But not really.
Speaker 5 (15:05):
I mean, listen, I think Sark and coach day or
to the to the best coaches in college football and
their culture and their program and how hard they've worked
to build what they have. I mean they're smart enough
to know, like, hey, let's let's let our talk and
be on the field and let's let's you know, let's
do it right.
Speaker 3 (15:22):
Very classy. Uh, universities for sure.
Speaker 2 (15:26):
Hey, uh, one last one before I would like to
squeeze in an NFL if you don't mind at the end.
But we do have Cardale Jones on the show a
little later on Ohio state quarterback obviously won a national championship.
Speaker 4 (15:37):
Do you have any message for him? Perhaps and we
could play it for him. Do you want to get
the trash talk started?
Speaker 3 (15:43):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (15:44):
The floor's yours, Yeah.
Speaker 5 (15:46):
Texas by Sien How about that Cardell?
Speaker 4 (15:49):
That that qualifies as trash talk?
Speaker 3 (15:51):
All right?
Speaker 2 (15:52):
So the NFL question so cold you? Uh you ended
your career with the Arizona Cardinals. They're one of my
like sleeper teams this year. I'm just curious what was
it like in the building Kyler Murray and company. Uh,
you know, we'll see what happens with Arizona.
Speaker 5 (16:08):
Yeah, I love Arizona. Tough division. I mean, listen, you
gotta play the nin or swice, you know you gotta
you gotta go up against the Rams twice.
Speaker 3 (16:16):
Their defense is young and strong.
Speaker 5 (16:19):
But I love Kyler. I would put I would have
my bets on Kyler. You know every week, James Connor,
great friend. They have a really good mix of guys
who have a ton of experience and got a lot
of refs under their belt, and then a good group
of young guys had a great draft, and so I
think that's very fair to say that Arizona's could be
(16:41):
a sleeper team this year.
Speaker 3 (16:42):
I'll always pull for him.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
Let me get in one last one. Sorry, Michaeh. Parsons.
I don't know if you heard Michael Parsons was traded.
Speaker 3 (16:49):
I mean I'm in DFW right now. It's like it's
like Luca all over out here. Really, it feels like it.
Speaker 4 (16:59):
Wow that huh. So I'm just curious where were you
when the trade was announced? And uh, have you been
around a lot of Cowboys fans?
Speaker 3 (17:07):
I mean there's Cowboys fans everywhere everywhere.
Speaker 5 (17:09):
I mean, listen, trades like this, you know you can't
judge this right now.
Speaker 3 (17:14):
You look at the Cowboys.
Speaker 5 (17:15):
They got four draft picks or four first round draft
picks over the next two years and may be a
little short term pain for some long term game all
I know is that Michael is a Micah is a
ridiculous football player. You got to double team him every snap,
and he's he's a game record. There's not very many
of those guys out there, and he's one of them.
And so to lose a guy like that on your
(17:36):
football team is you know, you can't really replace that, right.
So time will tell on this one, but certainly it's
been a it's been a distraction I think for the
last you know, several months in Dallas. And and I'm
happy for I'm happy for for you know, Micah.
Speaker 3 (17:55):
The dude's a Hall of Famer.
Speaker 5 (17:56):
I mean, and I don't I wouldn't consider mysel a
Cowboys fan. I never played for the Cowboys, but I
certainly live in Texas and I'm around Cowboys fans all
the time.
Speaker 3 (18:06):
So I just I just love to hear the chatter
every day.
Speaker 2 (18:10):
Okay, So we started with Arch. Let me get one more,
sorry cold Listen, you got a great guest. You gotta
ask him.
Speaker 4 (18:14):
So you just said the Cowboys have four first round picks.
We were gonna, I swear it's on the.
Speaker 2 (18:19):
Dock, and we were going to talk about this in
like twenty minutes. But is there a world where hey, man,
if Arch shows out against Ohio State, they win.
Speaker 4 (18:27):
Yeah, you know where I'm going cold.
Speaker 2 (18:29):
He's laughing, but like, if he has three hundred yards
three touchdowns, lock him in as the number one pick
against Ohios Date.
Speaker 4 (18:35):
I know it's a long season, but is there a
world where Jerry's like, hey, we gotta, we gotta, we
gotta bring him home and they want to trade up
for Arch.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
And I know you're laughing, but listen, man, we saw
Johnny Manziel go into Alabama absolutely cook and it was like,
who is this guy? Blew up huge stage and he
goes in the first round. Arch, It's gonna be hype team.
Speaker 4 (18:55):
You gonna be bigger.
Speaker 3 (18:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (18:58):
I mean, listen, it's a long and you know, I
can certainly promise you Arch is not focused on that,
but that could be realistic.
Speaker 3 (19:06):
Who knows. I mean, you know, texted this poise to
you know, have a great year.
Speaker 5 (19:10):
If he goes out there and balls out and has
an awesome year, I think, you know, more.
Speaker 3 (19:14):
Teams than the Cowboys are going to be won them.
So you just you never know what could happen, all right.
Speaker 2 (19:18):
Colt McCoy sorry to keep you so long, man, it's
just fun stuff I wanted to forgo.
Speaker 3 (19:23):
It was good enjoy again this week. Huh text to
Ohio State, who you got?
Speaker 4 (19:26):
I got twenty seven to thirteen buck eyes?
Speaker 3 (19:31):
Oh my goodness.
Speaker 2 (19:33):
All right, yeah he's taking it for all right, Cold McCoy,
thanks a lot, really really good stuff, buddy, take it easy.
Speaker 3 (19:38):
Okay, thanks for having me.
Speaker 4 (19:40):
Yeah, Cold McCoy. Uh, he just seems like such a
nice guy, right, Rachel. He's just like laid back in.
Speaker 6 (19:45):
There drinking his coffee. Yeah, coffee with him.
Speaker 2 (19:48):
So we've had colp McCoy's chilling. We had Jane from
her car, and it's like, who knows.
Speaker 6 (19:54):
What's the scene? We are on the scene. I love,
he says Luca all over again, because I do think
it really felt like if you're not in Dallas, it
might be hard to process. But I think it felt
that way to a lot of people. It's just you
keep having the rug pulled out from under us. What
is happening?
Speaker 2 (20:07):
Rug pull? Look at that to your kids. Use a
rug pull? Reference my kids. You know, you know a
little about the crypto and a rug pull and meme coins. Anyways,
all right, coming up next, Rachel's gonna tell us which
future NFL Hall of Famer is lobbying for Shadur to start.
Speaker 4 (20:24):
That's next.
Speaker 7 (20:27):

Speaker 4 (21:33):
That guys seemed just like a nice guy. I was
just reading his Wikipedia. It just seems like an all
around good dude.
Speaker 2 (21:38):
You know who's also a good person. Rachel Nichols. She's
here with the news.
Speaker 6 (21:42):
No, no turn on the news.
Speaker 7 (21:45):
This is the herd Line News.
Speaker 4 (21:48):
All right.
Speaker 6 (21:48):
So Travis and Jason Kelsey's latest podcast no Taylor Swift,
but it did feature Travis campaigning for a guy not
even on his team to get some playing time. Take
a listen to this.
Speaker 3 (22:00):
Give the people what they want? Well, I'm not going
to give the people what they want.
Speaker 9 (22:03):
What they want is an outlantish take.
Speaker 3 (22:04):
That starts for sure. I mean, listen, what do I
want to watch?
Speaker 4 (22:08):
I want to watch it, but.
Speaker 7 (22:13):
The coach, Yeah, my people what they want the worst
wants to see him go out there and not only play,
but have success.
Speaker 3 (22:19):
At this point, guys are rooting for him. This isn't
against anything against Dylan. This isn't anything against Joe.
Speaker 7 (22:26):
I'm just saying the excitement is there for him to
go out there.
Speaker 3 (22:29):
He's going to put eyes on the screen.
Speaker 6 (22:35):
Look, I get it. The Kelsey's are from the Cleveland area,
travel talking about You know, he's talked a lot about
growing up a Browns fan. He's come from that perspective.
I don't know, man, You're an active player on another
team saying what a team should do, and he can
say no offense. This is nothing against Joe or Dylan.
(22:56):
But just because you say it doesn't mean that you're
not offending, doesn't mean that you're not kind of out
of pocket there. What do you think? Have I been
too harsh?
Speaker 2 (23:05):
This is going to sound probably more harsh, But do
you think he's engagement farming? After the monster numbers they
did with Taylor Swift? The numbers are kind of come
crater ight down. So let's have a shodure take.
Speaker 3 (23:15):
Did you hear him?
Speaker 4 (23:15):
He's like you want to take no?
Speaker 6 (23:17):
First of all, he will never have to engagement farm
in his life married to her. No, I just think
you know there having they've been on a good run
and when you're rolling, you're kind of looser with the
takes and everything. I don't know. I really like Travis personally,
I covered him, but I just don't think this is
another you're an active player, this is another team. Don't
(23:38):
get involved in another team's quarterback situation. And you can again,
you can say no offense to Dylan or Joe. You're
saying someone else should start over them.
Speaker 4 (23:46):
This is a good point.
Speaker 2 (23:47):
So do you think that they will now weigh in
on like the Micaeh Parsons Jerry Jones trade with some.
Speaker 6 (23:53):
I assume so, But that to me is a little
bit less of a thing. You can weigh in on
the NFL News of the day, right, and you can
about Jerry Jones if you're an active player, right, You're
welcome to have that opinion, right, right. But to start
going into someone else's quarterback room and say this guy
should start over this.
Speaker 2 (24:10):
Guy, do you think this will make the rounds in
the Cleveland locker room or front office.
Speaker 6 (24:14):
I don't know. I mean, I don't think they want
to put that on the bulletin board because it's insulting
to a couple other players, including the guy who's started.
Speaker 2 (24:20):
You know how to really diffuse this is to make
Shador inactive for Week one. Just pu the two quarterbacks
and there's no conservers here. We got our starter, we
got our backup. He's a clipboard guy.
Speaker 6 (24:31):
Hey, maybe Shador mixed copies of this and just sort
of slides it under the.
Speaker 4 (24:37):
Forget about what I did there, you.
Speaker 6 (24:39):
Go, all right, we are dealing with the aftermath of
the trade heard around the world. Michael lands in green
Bay to a four year, one hundred and eighty eight
million dollar contract, with that forty seven million per year salary,
re setting the market for defensive players by nearly six
million dollars. On the green Bay side of things, this
means that Packers will have a front four with two
Pro bowlers and particularly I mean you got to count
(25:01):
Parsons and Rashaun Gary as one of the most formidable
pass rush combos in the entire league. What impact do
you expect this to make on the North?
Speaker 4 (25:11):
On the NFT North, Yeah, I think they win the division.
Speaker 2 (25:13):
I mean they have two better Their top two defenders
are well actually aid at Hutchinson's Wildbride.
Speaker 6 (25:19):
Yeah, but and their Nego Lions are negotiating on contract.
Speaker 2 (25:23):
Right now okay, So Micah, Gary, they did lose Jyrra
Alexander the cornerback, So corner is a little light but
with a pass rush, you know.
Speaker 6 (25:33):
And they just apparently sent the most important run stopping
tackle in history to the Cowboys.
Speaker 2 (25:38):
So yeah, Gary Brooks, Wyatt Parsons. They need a nickname
for those guys. By the way, listening to Colt McCoy
or maybe it was Jane Slater, I forgot who said it.
But Micah landing in Green Bay's good. It's maybe a little.
Speaker 4 (25:55):
Off the spotlight of Dallas. I'm just curiou.
Speaker 2 (26:00):
How do you think that plays for Micah? He's now
away from me. You don't need to be outlanders. There's
not media in your face every day. Do you think
he instantly goes in and is a little more chill?
Hey man, the Cowboys traded you, bro, You need to
be you got humbled a little bit.
Speaker 6 (26:14):
Well, look, Luca definitely reacted to being surprised traded by Dallas.
You know, he obviously got in great shape. He heard
all the talk about how you know, slovenly he was
and all of that stuff he did. That is some
of the words he is. So yeah, I think I
think it makes you think like, oh man, they traded me.
But I think Jane hit on a good point, which
is that there aren't the cameras in your face that
(26:37):
can catch you off guard. That Dallas Cowboys locker room.
You know, I've been in both of those locker rooms,
and the Cowboys locker rooms. You have so many people
with phones and cameras and everything. Microphone in your face
and any one of those thirty people gathered around your
locker and trip you up and you can say something.
In Green Bay, it's just a smaller media market, right,
So there's only every day at practice. It's just a
(26:59):
much smaller contingent, maybe ten guys that kind of thing,
And so you're not going to have some of the
trip up potential. But what's different in today's world, and
you were just talking about this with the podcast and
everything else, there isn't really a small market anymore in
terms of like advertising power or media press. And so
he used to be like, oh man, you go to
Oklahoma City as a basketball player, you know you're screwed. Well,
(27:22):
Russell Westbrook has like a million commercials when he was there, right,
So it doesn't it doesn't play that anymore. Actually think
that is a good split for micaeh. He actually just
and he's still a social media presence. He just tweeted
a few minutes ago which number should he wear? Should
he wear number zero or number one? He's asking I
eleven is not retired in Green Bay, belongs to a
rookie right now. So I don't know what that's about.
Speaker 4 (27:44):
But yeah, how did you research that?
Speaker 3 (27:45):
All right?
Speaker 4 (27:45):
So he's gonna go zero or one, that's what he said.
What is that like? Do you think that's a sign
like I'm starting over zero?
Speaker 6 (27:52):
Maybe? I don't know, but he's getting attention. Still, he
still doesn't matter size the market, He's still he's still
out there.
Speaker 2 (27:58):
Okay, Rachel, Well that's the news, and thanks for stopping
by the Herd Line News all right, coming up next,
So we tease this with Coldbolcoy.
Speaker 4 (28:10):
But this.
Speaker 2 (28:12):
Dallas setup with four first round picks over the next
two years, their own in twenty six and twenty seven
and the Packers in twenty six to twenty seven, do
they make a big move for a certain quarterback who's
playing twenty four hours.
Speaker 4 (28:25):
From now on Fox. We'll talk about that next.
Speaker 7 (28:32):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd Weekdays
and Noon Easter n a EM Pacific.
Speaker 6 (28:37):
Since the moment it was announced, everyone's had this matchup circle.
Jason's betting on it. It's a big deal. The arch
Manning Era kicks off with a playoff rematch for the
ages is Number one Texas takes on defending national champion
Number three Ohio State on Big Noon Saturday. Coverage begins,
of course with Big Noon kickoff live from Columbus nine am.
(28:58):
Easter Tomorrow, anthires.
Speaker 2 (29:03):
Happy Labor Day weekend everybody. I mean, it's going to
be a big one. Obviously.
Speaker 4 (29:07):
College football.
Speaker 2 (29:08):
Labor Day for me, growing up on the East Coast
used to signal the start of the school year. You'd
start the Tuesday after Labor Day. Of course, out here
in California we started like two weeks ago.
Speaker 3 (29:17):
Whatever.
Speaker 2 (29:19):
However, I would always celebrate going back to school. I
you know, I like seeing my friends hanging out, dominating Pe.
Speaker 4 (29:27):
All that fun stuff. I did dominate Pe.
Speaker 2 (29:30):
Anyways, yesterday, when the Michael Parsons trade went down, I
haven't seen anyone at FS one as excited this year.
As I saw Greg Jenny's he looked like he was
celebrating going back to school. Here he is the former
Packers receiver. Right after the trade was announced on First
Things First.
Speaker 5 (29:51):
Listen, historically, yeah, exactly, traged, No, no, you know, obviously
I'm excited.
Speaker 7 (29:58):
You se literally literally I saw the news, heard the news,
and my heart, I'm like, you gotta be kidding, and
then I see that it's real, and I'm like.
Speaker 4 (30:10):
To go, you gotta love that. Listen. As a Jets fan,
I would.
Speaker 2 (30:14):
Love for the Jets to get a quarterback, and I
would go bonkers like that here on the herd. Now,
I quickly want to just call up the Packers schedule
because folks, they're favored in their first eight games of
the season.
Speaker 4 (30:31):
I don't want to go overboard with super Bowl hype.
Speaker 2 (30:34):
They are favored now because they're at home in a
lot of these games, and obviously Dallas ain't great. The
Week four game against Dallas, they're favorite one and a
half at Jerry World, I don't that's like early game of.
Speaker 4 (30:49):
The season now.
Speaker 2 (30:49):
I mean, Ravens Bills are gonna be amazing, Chiefs Chargers
should be good. But that game is the Micah revenge
game against Jerry. I would you know he's gonna be
going after his guy, Dak Prescott. But again, these are
the quarterbacks that, like Green Bay, they're missing Pe.
Speaker 4 (31:08):
You could argue, I'm sorry, you could argue that they're
missing piece for their super Bowl team was a blue
chip superstar coming off the edge that you have to
scheme for.
Speaker 3 (31:18):
You just have to.
Speaker 2 (31:19):
And right out of the gate you get Jared Goff,
then you get Jaden Daniels. Those are two top twelve quarterbacks.
The brown Stink, Dak Whatever, Joe Burrow. So three of
your first five opponents have awesome quarterbacks. Kyler Murray he's
no Slouchi's probably in the fifteen to seventeen range.
Speaker 9 (31:40):
You know.
Speaker 2 (31:41):
I feel for Aaron Rodgers having a face Michael Parsons,
that's not gonna go well, who doesn't matter.
Speaker 4 (31:45):
About Bryce Young?
Speaker 2 (31:46):
But then you get the Eagles matchup, and I don't
want to go overboard. Let's see Week ten against the Eagles.
That is a oh, Monday night game. I'm gonna go
on record.
Speaker 4 (31:56):
I want the staff to just flag this so I
can flex on it.
Speaker 2 (31:59):
In January when Eagles Packers Week ten is a NFC
Championship game preview. The only team that can stop him
is the Niners. I don't even think there's like a
close fourth in the NFC. I like the Rams, but
I we'll see. So then you got Giants Vikings they
(32:19):
have quarterback issues, and.
Speaker 4 (32:21):
Down the stretch you get that Lamar game. Late.
Speaker 2 (32:23):
There are a bunch of Fox games one pm in November.
Oh shoot, we get Micah Parsons on Thanksgiving at Detroit.
Speaker 4 (32:33):
Gosh, this is just awesome. We're so lucky.
Speaker 2 (32:36):
I mean, you guys, So I went to a dad
dinner last night, like three dads I know are celebrating
their birthday and all these guys. I haven't seen some
of these guys in you know, summer, and they're just like, dude,
you have the best job. And I'm like, I don't
always think about it like that, but I kind of do.
I just talk about sports, and yeah, you're gonna say
some stuff and tick people off. And you know, if
(32:58):
I look at my phone in Jerry Jones's texting, you know,
stop bashing me. You're wrong, that would be cool. All
of Chicago hates.
Speaker 4 (33:04):
Me right now.
Speaker 2 (33:06):
Josh Allen's fan base in Buffalo is very upset at
me because I said Jalen hurts with the best.
Speaker 4 (33:11):
Duel threat quarterback in the league.
Speaker 2 (33:14):
Don't just clarify that he has an unstoppable play that
Josh Allen tried against the Chiefs and failed three times. Okay,
I digress, but it's like that's what we do. We
talk about this and then you get a neutron bomb,
like the Cowboys trading Michael Parsons.
Speaker 3 (33:29):
It's like.
Speaker 4 (33:31):
Unbelievable.
Speaker 2 (33:32):
But guess what, the fun doesn't stop there, because tomorrow,
in twenty two and.
Speaker 4 (33:38):
A half hours, my math is fuzzy. I'm just so
excited talking about the words.
Speaker 2 (33:42):
We get arch manning against Ohio State from the Horseshoe
on Fox, and like again, it's not meant to be
a flex. I'm just hashtag blessed. I know that sounds
so nerdy, but like it's just awesome. Like Saturday, I'm
gonna watch college football.
Speaker 4 (33:59):
Take no, it's like a nerd and then you know.
Speaker 2 (34:01):
Come in on Monday, Tuesday, and we're gonna just do
it all again. We are so fortunate that football's back.
I don't think you guys realized the off season is
here's the truth bomb. I told a couple guys on
the staff earlier this week. I'm done talking about the Cowboys.
I swear I said that. I was like, I can't
do it. There's nothing here. Mike's not getting trade it.
(34:23):
Why would they do The Packers aren't doing that. Everybody
who's coming on our show, all these guys who cover
the league, they come out.
Speaker 4 (34:29):
And say it, that's not what the Packers do. Jerry's
not dumb. Jerry signs these deals. At the last moment.
Speaker 2 (34:35):
I was done with the Packers, done with the Cowboy
It's not happening. And then we get this amazing story
and now the next layer. Okay, we've been I had
to milk some time here to lead up to this.
So we're in the morning meeting and it's like, oh,
Dallas now has four first round picks in the next
two years.
Speaker 4 (34:57):
Okay, well they.
Speaker 2 (34:58):
Have Dak as one of our guys today. Dak's earliest out.
It's like twenty twenty eight. They're not going after Arch Manning.
Did we just not watch Jerry Jones milk the entire
summer for headlines. You don't think if they win five
or six games this year, he's not gonna be like, Oh,
(35:19):
Arch crushed it.
Speaker 4 (35:20):
I beat Ohio State.
Speaker 2 (35:21):
He won the Natty or lost and won the highsch
whatever he's coming out, You don't think he's gonna be like,
go get me, arch Manning, Let's figure it out. I mean,
at this point, guys and I don't want to go overboard.
I do firmly believe all bets are off with Jerry Jones.
He talked all summer about extending Micah and then ended
(35:41):
up trading. We all think that was largely a dumb move.
A couple guys were pushing back about how it.
Speaker 4 (35:46):
Could work out. Yeah, it could work out in three years.
Speaker 2 (35:49):
Maybe maybe they get lucky like the Mavericks did with
Cooper Flag. Otherwise, honestly, Nico Harrison would be, you know,
the GM of a team in China right now if
they didn't get lucky with Cooper Flag. Seriously, now it's
a little different with Jerry Jones because he owns the team.
But again you see that like podium stuff yesterday where
he's meeting the media after the trade. He just sounds wacky.
Speaker 4 (36:13):
So arch Manning, the idea of arch in Dallas is interesting.
I've pumped the brakes. I think Rachel's pumped the brakes.
Speaker 2 (36:21):
Was it Albert Brier or somebody else pumped the brakes
slow down. Well, here's Urban Meyer talking about Arsaman. I
actually laughed out loud at this on the Joel Klatt Show.
Speaker 9 (36:31):
Arch Manning hasn't done a thing yet. I'm hearing the
word heisman, I'm hearing the word national champion, first pick
over and I went back and rewatched it just recently.
He's a good player. I mean, he's a really good player,
but he's not you know, get a couple first downs.
Speaker 2 (36:47):
Get a couple of fors that that's good. But just
to be clear, Urban, it's not people saying this. The
Vegas odds are Arch is the favorite. The AP voters
said Texas is number one. The pundits are saying Arch
going number one on the mock drafts.
Speaker 4 (37:07):
I'm one of those guys, but fine, whatever.
Speaker 2 (37:10):
So it's not just people are saying this about hype
for Arch like it's legit, whether it's wagers, people who
follow uh, you know, the draft and gambling, like it's
all about Art right now, and.
Speaker 4 (37:25):
Yeah we can all right, here's des Bryant chiming in.
Speaker 2 (37:29):
Oh, here we go, of course, Razel, there it is
des Bryant chiming in Arch.
Speaker 4 (37:33):
Many will have a star on his helmet.
Speaker 2 (37:35):
Nobody can tell me different. Des Bryant jumping into the conversation.
Speaker 6 (37:38):
Okay, but Dak Prescott has a no trade class also.
That's the other thing. It's not just that he signed
through twenty eight. He has a no trade clause, So
there is that. There's also I don't want to kill
anyone's exciting fantasy sports here, but putting Arch and the Cowboys.
But if you are at the bottom or at the
top of the draft, the bottom of the league, right,
(37:58):
and you have a high enough draft, Let's say Arch
does all the things you're saying, Heisman winner, great record,
all the stuff, Natty, don't you think the team that's
in the number one or number two spot is going
to want Like if you're the Cleveland Browns, right, and
you get the number one pick, which is not far fetch,
I don't care how many draft picks Jerry has. I'm
(38:19):
not trading that pick. They've had more quarterbacks in Cleveland
since they came back into the league in ninety nine
than any other team in the league. They have to
solve this problem. So if Arch really turns out to
be the guy that everyone's projecting him to, be. I
don't know if he's going to be available to trade
up and get it just sort of depends on how
that top of the draft, you know, shakes that and depends,
(38:40):
of course what Dallas has to offer. Where are those
draft picks? You know, do the Packers win the Super
Bowl or at least are they in the super Bowl?
So those those picks are what thirty thirty one? You know?
So I just I see a lot of obstacles. But
it's fun, you know, Danz Bryant, you talk your talk.
Speaker 4 (38:57):
Here's Colt McCoy earlier on the show, and I asked
him straight up, do we know if Far's.
Speaker 3 (39:01):
Manning is good?
Speaker 5 (39:03):
Listen, you don't know if anybody's good until they go
out there and play, right, Like, you know, if you
go to play quarterback in Texas outside of me, you know,
I was hardly ranked. But all these guys are the
top quarterback in the country when they come here, and
you all have to go out there and prove it.
These seemed very incredibly talented. It's gonna be an awesome
matchup for any fan in the country to watch, but
(39:26):
it's not going to be pretty. It's not gonna be perfect.
I mean the difference between these guys and the NFL.
There's no preseason. You've just been playing against each other
the whole time. And so when when the bullets are lives,
when the lights come on, like you got to go play.
Speaker 4 (39:41):
Sorry to get excited for Coleman.
Speaker 2 (39:43):
He looks and sounds like the kind of guy, Rachel,
who if you're going on vacation and you text your neighbor, Hey,
Amazon delivered the package, would.
Speaker 4 (39:51):
You mind grabbing it? He would do it in a
hard pick and it would be like no problem. But yeah,
I just like the cut of his jib a lot.
Speaker 2 (39:58):
Anyways, the problem with sports, Rachel is it's so fun
to speculate about this archs.
Speaker 4 (40:04):
Many soft First, this is what I just did.
Speaker 2 (40:06):
When you were like, Dek has a not trade and
we know that. Do you want to guess where Dak
Prescott's from? Tell me cases Soul for Louisiana. You know
who also doesn't have a quarterback the Saints?
Speaker 4 (40:18):
Is there any way? Now? I know arts Man any
but like I'm a hype. This is what we do
with sports fan. It's like, well, Deak want to go home.
Speaker 6 (40:25):
To I mean, this is why tomorrow's game is so exciting.
I mean, the ratings for this are going to be
off the charts because the possibility that this kid gives us.
It's exciting, it's hopeful. We loved these quarterbacks when it
was his uncles, Right and Cooper. His father was the
most athletic of all of them. Unfortunately, I had a
really bad neck injury. But that's why he didn't make
(40:45):
it in the NFL the way his brothers did. His
grandfather obviously a legend. You know, it's funny. I have
a question for you, Jason. You know how we count
Taylor Swift visit, you know, in the Chiefs broadcast? How
many times do we see Taylor Swift? How many times?
Which man do you think we'll show up tomorrow at
the game? And how many times do you think we'll
see them?
Speaker 4 (41:04):
I'll be shocked if they're not all there.
Speaker 6 (41:06):
Do you think they're all there?
Speaker 4 (41:08):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (41:09):
I think it's going to be all of them, probably
Matthew McConaughey, right, he's going to make a.
Speaker 6 (41:13):
Sure But using Taylor Swift as a line, are you
over under Taylor Swift's of how many times how much
I will see the Mannings?
Speaker 2 (41:22):
Well, I guess it's dependent on how arts does. I mean,
if he's vomiting all over himself and struggling, probably not
going to show show him more more. Jeez, I don't
know what's your guests on how he does.
Speaker 4 (41:34):
Do you think he can win tomorrow?
Speaker 6 (41:36):
I'm with you. I think Ohio States winning that game.
If it was in Texas, that might be a different story.
That is a you know, such a high pressure place
to play. And I brought this up on the show
a bunch. The Michigan Wolverines are the only team to
win in the Shoe since twenty twenty one. No other
team has even been able to win there. So the
idea that a rookie quarterback, basically I know he played
(41:58):
a couple of games last year, but is going to
be able to with all these expectations on him, is
going to be able to walk in and do the
thing no one else has ever done. It's possible, but.
Speaker 4 (42:07):
Yeah, I mean, anything's possible.
Speaker 6 (42:08):
But I'd put my money as you did on Ohio State.
And by the way, it's okay. It's okay if he
doesn't do great tomorrow and when he's got.
Speaker 2 (42:17):
To won't be okay for the pundits who are waiting.
That's the thing. You've been in media, you know you've
seen this. Does the build up a tear down?
Speaker 9 (42:26):
Yep?
Speaker 2 (42:27):
Like Baker Mayfield? Yeah, oh my god, I rerather he's garbage.
You know, that's what people do in this industry. Not
I mean, we're all guilty of it. Sometimes it's the
hype machine.
Speaker 6 (42:36):
It's not just us. I mean, you know, society has
become so polarized and there is no middle anymore. Right,
Either someone's awful or the best thing going. And it's
true in politics, it's true you know on the radio
when people call in about different things. That's just where
our society is right now. And I think it's because
of social media. If you don't have a take, if
you don't have a big take, you're not getting those retweets. Right.
Speaker 2 (42:56):
Yeah, that's a good topic. We should tear up the
final hour and do that up. Next are the Packers'
Super Bowl contenders will dull?
Speaker 4 (43:03):
But what does this do to the Cowboys? That's next.
