Speaker 2 (00:20):
You know, there's a lot of things that people complain
about in the world of sports, but one thing, as
it turns out, is going to be coming a little
bit more valuable as the season goes on. We'll get
into that for you coming up here in just a
couple of moments from now. Jonas Knox in for Colin
here on The Herd here on Fox Sports Radio. You
(00:41):
can find this show on the iHeartRadio app. You can
also find us on hundreds of affiliates all across the country.
As we take you all the way up until three
pm Eastern time, noon Pacific. And I was thinking about
this as we are still in the midst of the
college football labored a weekend extravaganza where you've got like
(01:02):
seven hundred games over a four day span or whatever
it did five day span and that's not to be
disrespectful to Week zero, all right, A lot of respect
for Week zero. That still counts. I don't know why
it's called week zero. It's kind of odd, but we've
got this giant college football weekend. And I was thinking
about this. Thank God for the expanded College Football Playoff,
(01:27):
because man, there's a lot of teams out there that are, like,
you know what, we don't get a preseason, kind of
ran into a little bit of a difficult situation. At
least we're going to have some time to sort through
these things. And you're looking back at last year and
you go, man, Ohio State won a national championship. If
(01:49):
you would have told them on the field, as Michigan
is celebrating at the Horseshoe in Columbus, hey guys, don't
worry about it. You're gonna win a national championship. People
probably wouldn't have believed you. They probably wouldn't have cared.
But the expanded College Football Playoff has given teams an
(02:09):
opportunity to maybe not be so punished for a loss,
and god forbid a loss. When you go into a
difficult situation like some of these teams went into this weekend,
whether it's Texas going to the Horseshoe and taken on
the defending national champions, whether it's Notre Dame going to
Miami and taken on the Hurricanes. I mean, Brian Kelly,
(02:33):
credit to LSU, But do you really think looking at
that game now, do you think Clemson when it's all
said and done, is going to be a forgotten team
in the college football Playoff? Who knows, Maybe they melt down,
maybe kay Klubnick suffers an unfortunate injury, like who knows.
But the point is you've now got the opportunity to
make up for your OH that you lose. If you
(02:56):
have the balls to take on somebody early in this season,
that would be a difficult matchup. This used to happen
in boxing all the time. Fighters would protect their OH
because it was looked at as like this, oh man, listen,
if you are undefeated, it mean And then all of
(03:18):
a sudden the UFC came around and were like, yeah,
whatever thing's happened. Got caught in a choke, got clipped,
got hit behind the ear, Hey what happened?
Speaker 3 (03:29):
You know?
Speaker 2 (03:29):
Listen, that's the way this stuff goes. And you now
start looking back and going who are the greatest fighters
of all time? Not George Saint Pierre's in the conversation losses.
Everybody loved Connor McGregor, a lot of losses, Daniel Cormier losses.
Speaker 4 (03:49):
John Jones has got one by technicality.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
But it's like you look at it, you go, yeah,
a loss isn't the end of the world. It's not
the end of the road. It's not the end of
your career. It's why people loved Manipaqiow, maybe over Floyd Mayweather.
Floyd Mayweather undefeated, great career. Manypaqiow had balls, took chances,
(04:11):
took fights he probably didn't need to take, took dangerous fights,
fought in a dangerous style because he wasn't so fixated
on keeping his perfect record. And college football has now
given teams an opportunity to do that. He got some
people that were looking at it and going yeah. But
if you expand the college football playoffs, then you know
(04:32):
it's going to diminish some of the impact of some
of these games.
Speaker 4 (04:35):
No, it's not. No, it's not.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
It's not gonna take away from the entertainment value. Did
you watch this weekend? It was awesome, It was great.
To have college football back, and I got news for you.
The quality of games weren't even that great. Ohio State
Texas wasn't that great of a game. You want to
know how good of a game Ohio State Texas was.
(05:01):
There were people trying to figure out whether or not
Ryan Day had a nipple piercing. That's how that's that's
a kind of quality game we were talking about here. But
it didn't matter. It was the atmosphere. It was finally back.
People were starved for it, and in a lot of
ways it delivered. You did see sloppy games, but the
(05:22):
atmosphere was there. And more than that, you saw teams
take chances. Teams look at this as an opportunity to
make a statement. But even if you come up short,
you're not gonna be punished unfairly to where it would
have happened in the years past. And as I mentioned,
open up, look, these guys don't get preseason games. That's
(05:46):
why it looks like this. That's why the first game
of the year in Dublin was awful in the first half.
Turnovers rain great. It's like sloppy, sloppy, it's gonna happen.
So when you look at college football and you look
at the landscape of college football. I know there may
(06:08):
be some people who don't like the expanded playoffs. They
don't like the fact that we've got so many teams. Dude,
it's going to save seasons and give teams an opportunity
to make up for God forbid, suffering a loss. It's
no longer boxing. You're not going to be punished or
(06:28):
judged differently if you suffer a loss, especially early in
the season, you're going to have an opportunity. And the
expanded playoffs is giving these teams an opportunity they would
have never have had in years past. At the Jonas
Knox on X is where you can find us. By
the way, you can follow along on Instagram as well too.
At Jonas Knox Show on Instagram is where you can
(06:48):
find us. All right, So now speaking of the college
football weekend, all right, let's go back to Columbus. And
now we're not talking about Ryan Days nibble piercing. We're
not getting into that. Some people have said that's a
fake photo. It looked like a It didn't even look
like a hoop. It looked like a bar. Which look,
you know, guys getting after it a little bit. Maybe
he polishes his beard, maybe he doesn't. You know, the
(07:11):
great Petros Papadakas was the first to point that out.
I'm not here to judge. I've got I've made awful decisions,
I've had piercings, i got dumb tattoos. I'm not here
to judge. Ryan Day wants to go get his nipple, Piers,
Go get his nipple, Piers. But maybe it was a
fake photo. Maybe it wasn't the other story to come
out of that game, outside of whether or not Ryan
Day hit up a piercing shop in Columbus and got
(07:34):
his breast stabbed by a guy with thirty five thousand tattoos.
The arch Manning reaction. Now, to be fair, let's give
the man an opportunity to talk. Let's listen to arch Manning.
(07:54):
Here he was following the difficult performance and difficult game
and difficult set i he was in in Columbus.
Speaker 4 (08:01):
Yeah, it didn't start fast enough.
Speaker 5 (08:03):
Took a whole half for us to kind of even
get the ball down the field. So that starts with
me get back to square one and get back Monday
and go prepare for Santage State. Yeah, ultimately not good enough. Obviously,
you don't want to start off the season zero to one.
They're a good team, but I thought we beat ourselves
a lot, and that starts with me, and I got
to play better for us to win. I can't wait
till the second half to kind of get things going.
Speaker 4 (08:24):
All right. That was arch Manning.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
I don't know who did this. I don't know who's
responsible for this. And look, I'm not trying to blame
other people in the industry or in media, all right,
I'm just pointing out the fact that I was not
one of these people. I felt like I had a
more rational understanding of what the expectation should be. My
expectations were a little different. But I don't know what
(08:51):
people thought they were going to get from a guy
who has two starts in his career, who's going on
the road against the defending national champions at their house
in front of a hundred plus thousand people in his
(09:12):
third start in Week one, when as I mentioned, things
are going to be a little sloppy, not just for
arch Manning, but for a lot of teams in college
football because, as I mentioned, you don't get a preseason,
and I'm seeing like this referendum on arch Manning. Oh
(09:34):
my god, the Heisman odds have dipped. The Heisman odds
have dipped.
Speaker 3 (09:41):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (09:41):
You want to talk about some of the other things
that you could gamble on throughout the course of time,
all right? Anybody else want to talk about You want
to talk about the fact that people were betting on
where was the next place a sex toy was going
to be thrown on the court at a WNBA game?
Speaker 4 (09:54):
Okay?
Speaker 2 (09:56):
And that got more action than a futures bet on
who was going to win the w NBA Championship. You
can bet on a lot of things, all right. So
let's take that with a grain of salt. And that's
not to insult my friends in the gambling industry. I'm
a degenerate proud of it, okay, but let's not look
at it go all by got the Heisman odds?
Speaker 4 (10:18):
Who said the odds? Who perpetuated this story?
Speaker 2 (10:23):
Who's the one that was pushing arch Manning out there
to be the next big thing?
Speaker 4 (10:27):
On two starts? And I got news for you.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
Maybe he turns things around, maybe against San Jose State
or some of these other schools.
Speaker 4 (10:35):
He's gonna find his rhythm.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
He looked a little better in the second half, but yeah,
he's gonna struggle. My guess would be a lot of
quarterbacks would struggle in that environment against that team. And
credit to Matt Patricia, the defensive coordinator for Ohio State.
But this idea that all like all of yep, the
book has written on arch Manning really who wrote the
(10:59):
first one? We got two pages in and everybody was like, oh,
this is the greatest novel I've ever seen. You're two
pages in he started two games. Who pushed that out there?
I didn't because it doesn't make sense. We've seen this
(11:19):
when it comes to college football in the past. Nobody
was talking about Johnny Manziel. Nobody was talking about Johnny Manziel.
I can remember the one guy. There was one guy
who was trying to tell people about Johnny Manziel, and
he kept calling him Johnny Football. I'm like, dude, John Frickey,
(11:41):
former Fox Sports radio host. I remember working with Fricky
and I remember him saying, Johnny football, got to watch
out for Johnny football. Nobody else was talking about Johnny Manziel.
You couldn't even get an interview with the guy. I
tried Texas a and m said, now he's a freshman.
We don't let freshmen do interviews. The point is RG
(12:02):
three being a Heisman Nobody had RG three winning the Heisman,
and then he lit everything up the first week of
the season. Everyone's like, oh, that guy might be a contender.
But this idea that going into the season off two starts, Oh,
he's the Heisman favorite, he's this, he's that, he's a
first off. I'm not gonna say it's unfair to him.
His last name is Manning. We know that comes with
(12:23):
the territory. But who pushed this notion out there? It
was unrealistic, the entire idea that Arch Manning was going
to be out there and he was gonna light up
Ohio State and they got problem. Dude, it's the first week,
it's his third start, and that's Ohio State. This doesn't
(12:44):
mean that all of a sudden he's a bust. It
doesn't mean that, you know, Arch Manning. No, it's gonna
take some time and maybe he wasn't as good as
everybody built him up to be yet. But whose fault
is that Arch Manning? It's not his fault. His granddad's
talking about, well, he wants to stay in school. He
(13:05):
wants to stay in this People are talking about, well,
you know, the Saints are trying to take form or
tank form, and arch Manning's like, like, I don't know
where anybody's getting this from, Like I haven't made any
decisions what is happening here. So for everybody out there
who all of a sudden is has decided on what
their opinion of arch Manning is after one game, maybe
(13:27):
we should revisit your opinion before that game, after he
started two games, to get a better understanding as to
how realistic the idea of what you thought was going
to happen really was. Jonas Knox in for Colin here

It's a herd here on Fox Sports Radio Jonas Knox
and for Colin by the way, coming up in, uh,
we'll call it about ten minutes from now on the
first installment of the Herdline News. Somebody catching a lot
of heat via social media and in the world of sports.
(15:40):
I think they should be celebrated. Okay, I think they
should be celebrated, and we will explain why that is
coming up here in about ten minutes from now. So
you knew that this was going to happen, all right, now.
I do appreciate, you know, people that very successful, people
that are always trying to learn, Like that's important, Like
(16:00):
you're always trying to learn, Like, hey, what's somebody else doing?
Maybe I could take something from them, Maybe their idea
is a little better than mine. I don't want to
be so set in my ways. Okay, I don't want
to be so set in my ways. And I got
to give credit where credits due.
Speaker 4 (16:14):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (16:15):
Who's pushing the pr for the Dallas Cowboys. I don't
know who's doing it, all right, I'm not sure. But
whoever had the thought of, you don't what, why don't
we just hit up the MAVs and see how they
handled the Luca trade? All right? Remember that, Remember when
the MAVs trade Luca, you know, they trade Luca to
(16:36):
the Lakers, and nobody could figure it out. And then
all these reports come out afterwards where they're basically fat
shaming Luca, you know, like they the Dallas Mavericks made
a concerted effort to make it seem like Luka Doncic
was lard ass from stand by me, like like he
(16:58):
wasn't practicing his jump shot, he was in a pie
eating contest like that. If you want to believe the MAVs,
that's basically what the Dallas Mavericks are doing. And so
the Dallas Cowboys. And again I don't know who's doing this,
all right, but this according to the Great Albert Breer,
all right, who's a frequent contributor on Two Pros and
(17:20):
a Cup of Joe with myself and LeVar Arrington and
Brady Quinn, who are both enjoying the day off today.
Speaker 4 (17:26):
But Albert Breer said this.
Speaker 2 (17:32):
Quote, Zach Martin, Ceedee Lamb, and Dak Prescott are and
we're very popular in the locker room. That's not the
case with Parsons, who has rankled teammates in different ways,
seen by some as egotistical and self centered. His podcast
has created issues too. That goes all the way up
(17:53):
to quarterback Dak Prescott. All Right, now, maybe all that's true.
Maybe my Parsons is a bit of a pain in
the ass. All Right, we've heard that. That's not the
first time Albert Breers reported that. All Right, he's been
on that before anybody that you know, Listen, things maybe
were a little different, different and difficult behind the scenes
dealing with Micah Parsons. You had Jerry Jones kind of
(18:16):
make mention of this when he had that you know,
awful press conference a couple of days ago, where he said, well,
you know, we wanted Mike got to take on, you know,
be more of a take on more of a leadership role.
Speaker 4 (18:25):
That was the expectation.
Speaker 2 (18:26):
Like there's been some rumblings about that, all right, But
the idea that Micah Parson's ego is what led to
the potential split between the Cowboys and Michaeh Parsons is comical. Now,
(18:47):
Dak Prescott did speak about the decision to move on
from Micah Parsons, and it sounded like this.
Speaker 8 (18:56):
I definitely didn't think he was going to get traded,
I'll say that, but just with the way that their
negotiations went down, obviously to some extent, I mean, hell,
y'all were asking me questions. It seemed like it got
personal in their ends. So like that's why it wasn't surprised.
Speaker 2 (19:09):
So that's Dak Prescott, and Dak Prescott maybe one of
those guys who thought Michah Parsons was a pain in
the ass. Dak Prescott may have been one of those
guys who was like, yeah, this guy's a little bit
of a headache, et cetera, et cetera. But this notion
that that was what the real issue was between Micah
Parsons and the Cowboys is laughable considering this is the
(19:34):
same organization that was willing to overlook the egos and
maybe odd behavior of guys like I don't know Greg
Hardy ever heard of him, you know, stuff in the
past that was okay. I mean, I don't know anybody ever,
(19:55):
you know, looked into you know, behavior in the locker
room from Charles Haley, all right, anybody ever look into
that you know, I'll put it this way because I
want to keep it clean. Right. If this was another
time slot, maybe I could go a little bit more
in depth. But Charles Haley thought it was the perfect
opportunity to have his own batting practice. We'll just put
(20:18):
it that way. You can look that story up. Odd behavior,
creepy behavior, weird behavior, all of that acceptable. Apparently Dion
Sanders had an ego. Apparently it wasn't too much to
where they were like, ah, now, we can't know. The
(20:38):
problem is trying to make sense of absolute nonsense, and
it's a waste of time. It's a terrible move and
a terrible trade. It's terrible, and anybody trying to find
the reasoning why you just can't. Sometimes you can't. And
(21:01):
I've said this before, you can't argue with or fix crazy.
From time to time, you just can't do it. Who
listening here right now has ever dated somebody who was crazy,
just crazy?
Speaker 9 (21:15):
Right?
Speaker 4 (21:18):
Not Lee, I'm not this, not.
Speaker 2 (21:20):
Even I'm not even going there. Okay, But the point is,
at first, you defend them, like your buddy pulls you
aside and goes, hey, man, she's a little little a
little crazy, Okay, there's there's something going on there.
Speaker 5 (21:36):
Nah.
Speaker 4 (21:36):
Nah, you just don't.
Speaker 2 (21:37):
You don't know, man, you know it's like behind the scenes,
and nah nah, no, you don't. You don't get it.
You know, you don't see what it's like. She just
had a couple of drinks, that's all. It's not that
big of a deal. She just, you know, she was
a little uncomfortable being at and then like it happens,
it happens, It happens, and then you know, a couple
of months later, a couple of years later, who knows,
(21:58):
thirty years after you last here at in a conference
championship game, somebody pulls you aside and you look at
them and go, yeah, yeah, it's just nuts, just crazy. Yeah,
there's yeah, you're right, you're right, and you're right the
whole time. That's where we're at with Jerry Jones and
the Cowboys. It doesn't make sense. None of it makes sense.
(22:18):
You can't make sense of the nonsense. It's crazy. It
was a crazy decision to trade Micah Parsons. It was
a crazy decision to not get a deal done sooner.
All of it was crazy. And so whatever story that's
coming out where Micah had an ego and Micah dude,
(22:39):
who cares.
Speaker 4 (22:41):
It's the NFL.
Speaker 2 (22:43):
If somebody can play, you're willing to overlook whatever issues
they have off.
Speaker 4 (22:50):
The field to a certain extent. Look at de Sean Watson.
Speaker 2 (22:56):
Okay, what sixty one hundred different accusations from massage therapist
and Jimmy has them, and the Browns are like, yeah,
I don't care. You can play quarterback. They thought, so
let's make a move and get it done. Yeah, we'll
deal with the suspension, We'll deal with all that. So
this idea that Micah Parson's ego was part of the
reason that they didn't get a deal done, or mikeaeh Man,
(23:18):
There's been a lot of guys that have blown through Dallas.
No pun intended, all right, that we're not bringing up
the White House and all the other stories from the past,
But there's been a lot of guys who played for
the Cowboys who had at best an ego, at worst
something far beyond that, and they were willing to overlook that.
(23:43):
You can't make sense of any of this. There's a
reason why nobody cares about the Packers side of this trade.
You want to know why, because there's nothing to discuss
there's nothing to debate. Oh yeah, he's a great player,
maybe the best player at his position. They paid him
a lot, they brought him in. Cool, they're chasing super Bowls,
(24:03):
like nobody's talking about the Packers side. You notice that
nobody's having a discussion about it because everybody knows that
the Green Bay Packers did exactly what they should have done.
Speaker 4 (24:15):
They wanted to get better, They identified.
Speaker 2 (24:17):
An opportunity to get better at a position of need.
They got aggressive, and they called up the looney in
the NFCS and said, hey, are you are you serious
about this?
Speaker 4 (24:31):
You really want to trade him?
Speaker 2 (24:32):
Cool?
Speaker 4 (24:34):
Like, yeah, yeah, okay, yeah, we'll take him.
Speaker 2 (24:36):
Sure, forty seven million a year, whatever the guarantees are, whatever, whatever,
that's fine. Send them to Green Bay. Yeah, listen, there's
not as much to do there as in Dallas. But
you know what, maybe he'll be playing for a super Bowl,
which he was never gonna do with the Cowboys. So
I don't care about And this is, you know, not
a knock on Albert Breer. He's been fantastic through this
(24:56):
entire as far as reporting that side of it. But
if that really is part of the explanation, then that
ought to tell you you can't explain it because you
can't explain away crazy. Despite what people are trying to
do with the Michael Parsons Trade in Dallas at the
Jonas Knox and X at Jonas Knox Show on Instagram
(25:18):
is where you can find us here on the Herd
on Fox Sports Radio. And right now it is time
for Lee to laugh with the Herd Line news.
Speaker 6 (25:26):
No no, no, this is the Herd Line News.
Speaker 3 (25:32):
But up, Lee, No much?
Speaker 8 (25:34):
Jonas?
Speaker 4 (25:34):
How you doing, buddy? What she's hanging out?
Speaker 2 (25:36):
Man?
Speaker 4 (25:36):
Tack hanging out? Just you and I are just working.
That's working. Happy Labor day, man, I like I like
to work on labor Just just just people to work.
Speaker 2 (25:43):
You know.
Speaker 4 (25:43):
That's what I always thought is you should work on
Labor Day. Yeah, that's what I thought too, uh, Jonas.
Speaker 9 (25:49):
Case you missed this, Public Enemy number one from the weekend,
Polish CEO Peoter Cherick has made an apology.
Speaker 4 (25:56):
Do you know who that is?
Speaker 9 (25:57):
Peter Keyota Cherick. That's the guy who had the fast hands,
that's right, yeah. From the US Open. In case you
missed it, he snatched a hat from a Polish tennis
player who had was making the autographs after his big win.
He'd made a big upset and he was doing autographs
for the kids and fans in the stands. He was
(26:18):
handing out a hat and a kid was about to
grab it, but instead Polish CEO Peter Cherick snagged it
in front of him, and he's become public enemy number one,
people calling him a jerk and plenty of other names online. Well,
he has made his apology saying he has made a
grave mistake. I was convinced that the tennis player was
passing the cap to me for my sons who had
previously asked for autographs. I sincerely apologize to the boy
(26:39):
who was harmed, his family as well as all the
fans and player himself.
Speaker 4 (26:44):
So the kids slow on the draw and this guy
gets all the heat for it. That's right, what are
we talking about here? The kid was did get a
hat after all.
Speaker 9 (26:51):
The tennis player, of course, he did find him and
gave him a bunch of gifts, including a new hat.
Speaker 2 (26:56):
I mean, I got news for you. That was my
son who had a hat taken from him. And he
looked means says, but can I still get a hat?
I'd be like no, And in fact you're grounded for
three weeks.
Speaker 4 (27:05):
Be faster.
Speaker 2 (27:06):
Okay, Guys handing out valuable items, you got to know
every this is in demand. This this is a big
story for Poland. Guys handing out hats. Stuff is going
to be valuable one day. You got to be faster, Okay.
You can't stand around and expecting going to be given
to you.
Speaker 4 (27:22):
So I'm with this guy. He shouldn't have apologized. Yeah,
a bunch of people agree with you.
Speaker 9 (27:25):
Some fake lawyers took were fast on the draw too,
taken to the internet claiming to be his lawyer, saying,
if you were faster, you'd have it.
Speaker 2 (27:32):
This was a learning lesson though, Yeah, that's right that
this is a valuable lesson here. It's also a valuable
lesson that, like the whole idea of asking for assigned
items is just odd to me. Like I took my
wife and I took my son. Loves he loves baseball.
He loves baseball, he loves the Cubs, and so we
took him to the Cubs Angels game the friday before
(27:55):
this past friday, and she was like, you know, did
you bring pen pen for what?
Speaker 3 (28:02):
She goes?
Speaker 4 (28:03):
You know, maybe we could get somebody to sign something.
It's like, no, I gotta have that sharp ready. No, No,
we're not We're not doing that.
Speaker 2 (28:10):
I'm not running around in the heat to try and
get Dansby Swanson's autograph on a baseball that my son's
just gonna scribble off anyway.
Speaker 9 (28:18):
So what are we talking about? Oh man, you gotta
get it for the kids. The kids is great, but
he is a big funder of the Polish Tennis Federation,
so I'm sure he wants a little something for his money,
you know.
Speaker 2 (28:27):
I mean, look, it's a lesson. It's a learning lesson,
all right. And it's that old, that old quote there
is no losing.
Speaker 4 (28:36):
You win or you learn. And hopefully that kid learned
what else we got, Lee Jonas.
Speaker 9 (28:41):
It's been reported that the forty nine ers will wear
their white jerseys for the early season games home games
to combat the possible heat factor at Levi Stadium, that
will wear their white throwbacks in Week three versus the
Cardinals and their primary white uniforms versus the Jaguars in
Week four.
Speaker 2 (28:57):
I didn't realize that that was such a big deal,
and then I think it was. How was it Rex
Ryan who made the point? I think it was Rex
Ryan who made the point that it was like listen, man,
Like a lot of people don't talk about the humidity.
Like there's people that talk about, you know, the cold
being a factor, but the humidity in Florida, the heat
early in the year, like it does have an impact,
(29:19):
especially when you haven't played a real game in a
long time. So yeah, I mean it makes sense. I
didn't know the heat was that much of an issue
at Levi's Stadium. Like if you watch a Giants game,
if you watch a San Francisco Giants game, people are
in turtle next, people are bundled up. But I didn't
realize that Levi's Stadium had that much of a heat issue.
Speaker 9 (29:38):
I've heard it's a huge, huge issue at Levi's Stadium
that it's almost unbearable on one side of the stadium.
That you really I assume that the ticket prices are
much different for the shady side versus the versus the
heated side.
Speaker 2 (29:51):
Yeah, that is Ah, that is a good move. Like
if you're going to buy tickets anywhere you got it,
you gotta check the shade. Oh, we're going through a
heat wave here and the we're doing same thing for
Dodgers games. We're always looking to get the shade shady side.
Speaker 4 (30:03):
Let's go live to our weather man, Chris Popher for
the latest.
Speaker 10 (30:06):
Chris, I think I had a friend one time go
down to like Lions Chargers when they were still playing
in Qualcomm. It's like week one, and he sat on
the shaded side and meanwhile on the field, like, guys,
there their cleats, the the you know, the artificial turf,
the rubber down there was like melting into the cleats.
Speaker 4 (30:22):
It was that hot.
Speaker 2 (30:23):
Yeah, it's And by the way, what a dump Qualcomm stadium? God,
whoa no wonder Barrett Robins took off to Tijuana. I
wouldn't want to play in that game either. Play sucks.
Speaker 9 (30:35):
That was my first NFL stadium, so I didn't know
any different any better. So yeah, yeah, this place is cool.
Speaker 2 (30:40):
And then and then you went to another one and
you're like, oh god, yeah, look, it's it's like moving.
Speaker 4 (30:46):
Up from a high school stadium to like, I don't know,
like Notre Dame.
Speaker 2 (30:50):
It was that he places just rough man that play
and and they had a super Bowl. They had a
lot going on there. That place was rough.
Speaker 9 (30:57):
I thought it was cool because you could just take
the train right to the stadium, which is always a
good factor for stadiums.
Speaker 2 (31:02):
Thought, yeah, I mean at that point, just take the
train and keep on going, like as far as it
takes you.
Speaker 4 (31:06):
If you end up in release go like that, that's fine.
Just take it where you can. What else we got
laid Shiloh Sanders.
Speaker 9 (31:12):
The NFL has decided to find him five thousand dollars
after he was ejected from that game versus the Bills
in the preseason and subsequently cut from the team from
the Buccaneers. Well, he says, if he doesn't land on
another team, he's ready to move on and find new
ventures in music, acting, and modeling. His dad, Dion mister Prime, says,
you guys don't know how versatile and talented my son is.
Speaker 2 (31:34):
Okay, so he may not play in the NFL again,
and they're still gonna come after him for five grand. Yeah,
Like the NFL doesn't have enough money. You got to
come after Shiloh Sanders for five grand?
Speaker 3 (31:46):
Like what I mean? Come on?
Speaker 4 (31:49):
Would it have been more if he had made the
team and this was a regular season game?
Speaker 2 (31:53):
I see, I don't know, because I think it's a
percentage of what you make, like whatever your salary is.
Speaker 4 (31:58):
I think it's a percentage of that you get fined.
But listen, he threw a punch.
Speaker 2 (32:02):
It was a dumb move. He's already been punished, all right,
they released him. You know, he wasn't picked up on
the practice squad. I don't think now he's gonna try
and figure things out somewhere else. But I mean five
like they the NFL needs five grands so much that
they're going to come after and form I'm sure it
goes to a charity, Yeah, Roger Goodell's charity. All By
(32:23):
the way, I don't know if that's if that's confirmed.
I don't want to get in trouble here as we
are in for Colin on the herd here. I don't
know if that's that's actually true. But yeah, it just
seems like the NFL going after somebody. It's like when
the NFL punishes guys because their socks weren't pulled up, which,
by the way, Caleb Williams had his socks down.
Speaker 4 (32:39):
I think the entire preseason. Did he get punished for that?
Could you grock that?
Speaker 2 (32:43):
Could you look up whether or not Caleb Williams got
punished for having his socks pulled down, like for some
reason he just decided, you know what, I'm gonna go
back to painting my nails and not pull my socks up,
because last I checked, that's a punishable offense. If you
do that during it during an NFL game, you got
the wardrobe police who come around to try and find guys.
Speaker 4 (33:03):
I see criticism, but no official fun. I'll dive deeper
for you. That's unfortunate. All right there, it is lead
to lap with the herd Line News.
Speaker 6 (33:12):
Well that's the news, and thanks for stopping buck the
herd Line News.

All right. The ratings came out recently for the NFL's
preseason via Austin Karp of Sports Business Journal, who reports
(34:45):
that the NFL enjoyed its most watched preseason since twenty eighteen.
Games average two point two million viewers across NFL network, Fox, ESPN, NBC,
and CBS. That's up seventeen percent from last year. Now
as the season is now where it is game week,
(35:06):
all right, we're getting ready for the real regular seasons
take place.
Speaker 3 (35:10):
All right.
Speaker 2 (35:11):
I've always stood on the side of hey man, watch
the preseason. Watch these games. It's fun. I mean, there's
heartwarming stories and whatever is going on with you know,
Hard Knocks, which by the way, I did not watch
one single second of Hard Knocks this year, and I
was okay. But you watch the preseason and sometimes the
fields aren't painted. Sometimes guys are in there and they're
(35:34):
wearing you know, different uniform numbers, and they're gonna wear
when the regular season starts because guys are getting cut
left and right, et cetera, et cetera. But those numbers
tell you that the gap is widening. The gap between
the NFL and everybody else is widening because there's an
(35:54):
opportunity and there's a lane for potentially other leagues, other people,
other sports to pop up, and nobody's able to do it.
And the lead the NFL has over everybody else is
getting longer and longer and longer, and they're going to
(36:18):
continue to figure out ways to take over everything.
Speaker 4 (36:24):
And you could go back to COVID, which I think.
Speaker 2 (36:28):
Taught the NFL that, hey man, you can play games
on different days of the week.
Speaker 5 (36:32):
You can do this.
Speaker 2 (36:33):
You can't adjust if need be. You can't in the
NFL realize, oh, you know, we could just go ahead
and take Christmas, we could take all these solid We'll
just we'll take it all. And there's a lot of
people that wonder, all right, when is when are we
going to reach a point where it's just too much,
where they've got NFL fatigue, Because starting this week, they've
(36:53):
got it covered through mid February. So just think of that,
they've got it covered through mid February, and people can't
even wait for the regular season to get their fix
and to scratch the itch. And whether it's fantasy football,
(37:14):
whether it's gambling, which is a form of or fantasy football,
which is a form of gambling, whatever, it is, the
fact that the NFL in a preseason is seeing its
numbers go up when other leagues and other sports are
seeing their numbers go down or they're seeing dips and there,
that just shows you that they've adjusted, that they've recognized. Yeah,
(37:38):
you know what, And if you want to talk about,
you know, pushing storylines, if you want to say, oh,
what was should or Sanders? Fine, what call should or Sanders?
But he started one preseason game, he didn't play in another,
and he played late in the third. This isn't just
a should or Sanders thing. And the thing about the
(38:00):
NFL is it's not it's not so much about the stars.
With the NBA, you need, you know, star power, you
need you know, it's all about the names. It's Lebron,
it's all these names that come along with it. In
the NFL, you've got your fan bases, you've got your teams,
(38:22):
great quarterbacks, great stars help. All that's I mean, all
that's fine and dandy, but ultimately, people love their teams.
People are fired up to watch their team, People have
hope for their team, and then kickoff starts and you
look and you realize, oh god, they're awful, Like yeah,
this is the problem. And so I don't see a
(38:44):
bubble bursting. I don't like think about think about the
discussions that we have about teams that aren't even good
in the NFL. The Cowboys, they're not even good, and
they take over majority of the discussion. You can argue
the Cowboys are talked about more than any other professional
(39:07):
team in sports and they're not even good. How many
times have you heard a discussion about the Oklahoma City
Thunder who are good. You don't, You just don't, but
you do it the Cowboys, you do with the Jets,
you do with other mediocre teams around the NFL. Because
(39:29):
the NFL has proven it's king. We're not even at
the regular season and you're seeing the numbers increase, which
tells me the numbers are probably going to go up
when the regular season starts because people are starved for football,
because whatever other sport that they're presented, whatever sport they're watching,
(39:51):
when it's not football, it doesn't compar I love baseball.
I'm a big baseball fan. Not even in the same stratus,
not even close. I think it's gotten better. I think
it's improved. I think there's better storylines. I think the
product is better, it's gotten more entertaining, but not even
in the same stratosphere.
Speaker 4 (40:11):
I like the NBA.
Speaker 2 (40:14):
The fact that the NBA, unopposed, can't touch the NFL,
even when you did have good games and good story
even when you had good finishes and all that. The
fact that they can't even touch the NFL when there's
no NFL on that people would rather hear discussions about
(40:34):
the draft and the fallout from the draft than they
would teams fighting for a playoff spot or the playing games.
College basketball is a three week sport now it just is.
It's all about the NCAA tournament. The NFL has figured
it out. And whether you want to credit Roger Goodell
or you want to credit whoever it is, the NFL
(40:54):
had the foresight to be like, you know what, we
could really take this thing over. We could take this
thing over. In fact, we could take it over to
a point to where we would be doing better ratings
in our preseason than other sports are doing in their
regular season. And that's what's happening. They're not dependent on stars.
(41:15):
Everybody was worried years ago. Man when Brady retires and
Peyton Manning retires and all these all these guys retire,
what's gonna happen?
Speaker 4 (41:23):
What do you mean? They're a spoke on the wheel.
Speaker 2 (41:27):
Next person up to revolving door, and whoever it is
we will present them, will present, their team will present
the product, the fans will get around it, and the
numbers will go up. So the fact that you see
these numbers from the preseason go out the way they did.
Whoever you want to credit, figure that out, on your own.
(41:48):
I'm just telling you the gap is widening. The NFL's
got a big lead over everybody else, and it's not
changing anytime soon. Up next, here on the Herd, we're
going to tell you about somebody who is feeling the
heat in the world of football right here on Fox
Sports Radio
