Speaker 2 (00:21):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
Here we go.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
It is our first Friday of the football season.
Speaker 3 (00:31):
We are live.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
We are in Los Angeles. It is The Herd Blazing
five and one hour from now. Wherever you may be
and however you may be listening, Thanks for making us
part of your day. I will say, Jamcam sitting there
watching that game last night, and you know it's an
old cliche, but there are bad wins. You know, you
(00:53):
win a game and you lose two star players, and
there are great losses where you learn a lot about
your team. I watched that game last night for Dallas,
and maybe it's because I had such low expectations, but
I thought that was about as encouraging a loss.
Speaker 3 (01:10):
Philadelphia boat raced the.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
Cowboys twice last year, and Dallas had that game.
Speaker 4 (01:17):
Can I ask you if which game the one before.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
The lightning delay? Or after, because they were totally different
game they were. So let's just start with this. Listen
if cd Lamb catches that deep ball and it was
a perfect throw, another one by Dak. I think Dallas
wins the game. They had more first downs, they were
slightly better on third down, they had fewer penalties, they
had more total offense, and I thought their clock management,
(01:42):
always an issue in Dallas with McCarthy, was very strong
at the end of the first half. Yes, Jalen Carter's absence,
dude to spitting is a big break. He is just
a complete, absolute difference maker. And for the first half
the Eagles defense was trying to sort things out and
figure out how to play without Jalen Carter. But Dak
played well. Don't blame it on Dak. He had people
(02:05):
in his face in the second half and made great throws.
And here's the thing about Dak. He's thirty two, he's
off his second surgery. They had new screws were needed
to reattach his hamstring. Yet he moved well, he threw
with confidence, he didn't get sacked. And again in the
second half, Vic Fangio dialed it up. He was under duress.
(02:29):
Also for Dallas. I thought the offensive line again, no,
Jalen Carter, Yeah, we know it helped, but I thought
the offensive line held up well.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
I thought they found running lanes.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
I thought Ceedee Lamb and George Pickens against an excellent
secondary that is an excellent, young, talented secondary and linebacking corps,
both George Pickens and Ceedee Lamb created space, beat their coverage.
And also, oh, what are we going to look like
without Michael Parsons. Michael Parsons is a great he's not
(03:00):
the soul of his team. Last year with Micah Parsons,
the Eagles averaged thirty seven and a half points against Dallas.
Last night was twenty four and would have been a
win if Ceedee Lamb didn't become Ceedee lame and dropped
three passes.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
The O line look good.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
Keep your eye on James Houston, who was great as
a rookie. He's been beat up, he struggles to stay healthy,
but I thought he looked really good. And listen, I
have been highly critical of Brian Schottenneimer, but you could
not watch the Cowboys last night on the road rain
delay and not think they're buttoned up. They're good on
(03:39):
third down they're emotionally in check. Very few penalties, So
I listen, you could have bad wins in this league
if you lose a star quarterback, but win, you could
have good losses. It certain places. A young Dallas team,
I think they're going to score some points. I was
really encouraged by the offensive lune it again at halftime adjustments,
(04:04):
but Dak wasn't getting sacked. He was moving around. I
think you have to be happy as a cowboy fan
throughout the game. I'm thinking Dallas, don't screw it up,
get a top ten lottery pick. But they still got
what three years to pay Dak maybe after this year,
so they're invested in Dak. But overall, here's Brian. I
thought it was pretty impressive.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
We got the right type of guys.
Speaker 5 (04:27):
We got good players.
Speaker 6 (04:28):
Again, Like I said, you know, you saw what we're
capable of in the first half offensively, you saw it
we're capable of in the second half defensively. We just
got to put the game together in a more complimentary fashion.
We had chances out there, and there's no moral victories
for us.
Speaker 7 (04:42):
We had a chance to.
Speaker 6 (04:42):
Win that game and weren't able to do it. And
it'll stink.
Speaker 1 (04:46):
I mean that I thought Dallas, honestly, I thought it
was a B plus plus performance. Obviously the rain delay
didn't help them, but you're on the road, Philadelphia's got
the better team. It really came down to Ceedee Lamb
making one big catch, but very impressive by Dallas, shockingly
so for me, Okay, let's talk Eagles. What did I
(05:10):
spend ten minutes on yesterday with the Eagles? I said
they do a lot of things lousy franchises do, and
they did it again last night. Jalen Carter couldn't get
a snap in before he got tossed. They had more
penalty yards in the first half than any team in
the NFL last season had in the first half the
(05:30):
Eagles last night. I mean they went the entire game
and barely even glanced today J Brown. They had multiple
personal fouls. They were emotionally out of control. They had
a dumb taunting penalty when you know the league's been
warning all the teams taunting were not standing for it.
I mean, I saw Big Dom more than I saw
AJ Brown, and Philly's got a lot of new faces
(05:54):
on defense, so they needed Jalen Carter. That was a
big loss, but once again, and we talked about this yesterday.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
You know what, I've always.
Speaker 1 (06:04):
Loved Jalen Hurts, not as much as anybody else, but boy,
did you see it last night? Stoic intelligent leadership. Do
you realize in his last fifteen starts that he's played
the entire game. He's fifteen to zero and last night
was classic Philly drama everywhere, taunting, penalties, personal fouls, Jalen Carter,
And here's stoic Jalen Hurts grown up. I mean, now,
(06:28):
Vic Fangio deserves credit. He couldn't figure out in the
first half what to do without Jalen Carter. They go
in at halftime, Fangio's like, all right, we're gonna switch
some things up. He did Vix great, So it took
them a half to figure out what to do defensively.
But I thought Jalen Hurts faced more pressure overall consistently
(06:48):
than Dactd. I thought Dallas's front got pressure. But he
is so mentally dialed in. This guy is such an
impressive human being. I almost think Jalen Hurts is an
impress of human being. The quarterback is second. But this
was a classic game for Philadelphia. Where they kind of
melted down in the first half. Carter taunting, penalties, personal fouls.
(07:12):
They were kind of a wreck. But what pulled it
through Jalen Hurts picking up first downs. He just you know,
it's like a Philadelphia is a big noisy family.
Speaker 3 (07:22):
And I learned this with my dad, you.
Speaker 1 (07:24):
Know, passed away like who's the executor of the will?
And they gave it to my sister, right like like
all right, Collins distracted, give it to my sister. And
I feel like this is a big, loud family. If
you ever had to give the executor of the will
to anybody for the Philadelphia Eagles, I wouldn't give it
to Nick Sirianni the executor.
Speaker 3 (07:43):
It would be Jalen Hurts because there's.
Speaker 1 (07:45):
So last night's first half there was nothing but drama
in Philadelphia and there's a big story something's going on
with aj Brown. We'll get to that in a second,
but here's Nick Sariani on the Jalen Carter incident.
Speaker 5 (07:57):
We want to have great like I said, energy, tenacity,
all those different things, but we got to do it
within the rules of the game.
Speaker 3 (08:03):
And you know, we'll we'll we'll address that.
Speaker 4 (08:07):
We'll go through that.
Speaker 5 (08:07):
But we got to get better in that in that
scenario because we need we need that guy on the field.
Speaker 3 (08:11):
He's a really good player.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
The other thing to think about, and I'm going to
get into this after the break, but there is one
thing because Philadelphia, if Jalen Hurts is playing the entire game,
Philadelphia wins. Okay, there is one thing Jason, and Jason
was on this couple of years ago. I got to
give him credit. That blows up a dynasty or a
great team wide receiver drama and the AJ Brown situation
(08:38):
last year, you start looking at the data, he is
not the guy you think he is. I always said
this Warriors won pre KD and post KD. The soul
of the team was Draymond and Staff. It was not Katie.
Katie was the most talented, and I could argue AJ
Brown's as talented as everybody on Philadelphia. But I'm gonna
give you some numbers after the break to show you,
(08:59):
you know what it felt like last night to me,
we didn't work together at this time. Randy Moss goes
to the Patriots and he's unbelievable, and you're kind of
waiting for the next shoe to drop and then I
forget what year it was, but there's a Monday night
football game, New England goes to Miami. I think it
was in Miami, but it was the Patriots Dolphins, and
(09:21):
they target Randy Moss once. And I remember I worked
at the ESPN. I went on the air that Tuesday
morning and I said, he's out of here, and everybody
back then I would take emails or calls to the
show and everybody's.
Speaker 3 (09:31):
Like, no, you're overreacting.
Speaker 1 (09:32):
I'm like, the most talent receiver in the game on
a team that doesn't draft receivers. You target against a
rival team Miami, you target him one time. It's not
like you targeted him eight times and the coverage was good.
AJ Brown was targeted what once last night? Okay, so
that tells you Jalen Hurst and AJ Brown because Dallas
(09:54):
Goddard was eaten last night, Saquon was eating Dotson got looks,
Davante Smith got looks. A Day's more talented arguably than
all of them except Saquon Barkley and got one look
that is not coincidental, not great at all.
Speaker 4 (10:08):
And it was not just one target. It was one
target with like five minutes left in the game, Colin,
that offense did not look good at all.
Speaker 8 (10:16):
You can't rely on Jalen Hurts to bail you out
of every third down. They had one pass completion over
ten yards one the bomb to Dotson.
Speaker 4 (10:24):
That's it.
Speaker 8 (10:25):
Everything else was short. I know it's a new offensive
coordinator for Hurts, which is the case almost every year.
But Colin, I'm with you to take away as Dallas
looked better than advertised and Philly did not look particularly sharp.
Speaker 3 (10:37):
No, but I will.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
Say the rain delay helped Philly. You know, it's hard
enough to go on the road, like it's hard to
go on the road, the crowd's against you, and then
you prepare and Dallas had a very good game plan
and then all of a sudden you got a rain
delay after halftime, and you're like, okay, it's hard. And
I felt for Dallas. I'm like, oh, this is like
(11:00):
Philadelphia the football gods. Remember the Super Bowl with the
lights went out. It's like sometimes a team that when
the lights go out, you come back on or there's
a delay, some players don't react as well. It's always
felt like it's an advantage being the home team. If
there's some malfunction or delay, and I just felt like
after that, I thought Philly was a little more dialed in.
(11:20):
But you cannot come out of that game and not
say to yourself with Dallas, because my thing was Schottenheimer,
he hadn't been offered or interviewed for head coaching job
before Dallas for fourteen years. An offensive coaches all get interviewed,
so like he was not the party of the the
bell of the ball by owners or GMS as an
(11:43):
offensive coach. But maybe he's a walk around guy and
his stoicism and chill approach works with Jerry.
Speaker 4 (11:50):
It could be.
Speaker 8 (11:51):
Let me just push back and I'll offer this. If
Jalen Carter's not tossed, you could just take away all
those A gap runs where Javonte Adams is running.
Speaker 4 (11:59):
There.
Speaker 8 (11:59):
By the way, Javante Adam's total for rushing guards was
like thirty seven and a half. He had like fifty
eight yards rushing. Okay, so it's not totally fair. And
then all of a sudden, Dak gets pressure up the middle.
Javonte Williams.
Speaker 4 (12:09):
Sorry, I just I don't really know what to make
of either team.
Speaker 1 (12:13):
But here's my take. Though you're right, but the truth
about availability. It's on you. So that's I am not
gonna say. Well, Dallas with Jalen Carter, I don't know,
but you know what, you're not mature. You had red
flags coming out of Georgia. This won't be the last
time you get in trouble, so you know what. Dak
could have easily spit back and didn't. But the mature Dacks,
(12:36):
like now bra Jalen carssol I, Philadelphia's drama is self inflicted.
Speaker 3 (12:41):
Okay, don't you know? So you're right.
Speaker 1 (12:44):
I do think Dallas found some running lanes that they
wouldn't have found. But I will say the past protection
it was pretty good.
Speaker 4 (12:51):
Nolan Smith was the only I get into him. I
am curious if Micah Parsons is there for Dallas on
that is he setting the edge containing Jalen Hurts.
Speaker 8 (13:00):
It felt like they missed Michael Parsons. I didn't hear
a lot of that discussion on the broadcast.
Speaker 3 (13:03):
Well, I thought Houston was really good.
Speaker 8 (13:05):
He was solid, But imagine if he was opposite Michael Parsons,
then it's like, well, Jalen's not running wild.
Speaker 4 (13:10):
I mean, Jalen was just clowned out right.
Speaker 1 (13:12):
Carter's gone one for Philly, Mike has gone for Dallas,
and so you could say it's kind of a wash.
It just looked like if you didn't know anything about
Philly or Dallas and you were dropped spaceship in front
of a TV and you watched the game, your takeaway
would be, yeah, I mean they're pretty close.
Speaker 3 (13:30):
Even Yeah.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
I watched them play twice last year lobsided. It was
Bam in the Dynasty against Kentucky. It was like, Oh,
these teams shouldn't be on the same field both games
last year. Last night I was like, no, they match up.
The Lions match up.

Speaker 1 (14:22):
As I've talked about with the receivers, they're the convertible
sports car, great until the weather gets bad, really really
cool in the garage. Everybody talks about him. What gets
you to work in January? You're not driving the convertible
sports car, especially on this team that led the NFL
in Russia temps last year. So this is if clearly
(14:42):
quarterbacks from Mahomes to Brady demanding the Jalen hurts. They
throw it at targets. They trust, He trusts Dallas Goddard.
He had seven catches on seven targets. He trusted Vontae Smith,
He trusted Dotson. He didn't trust aj Brown. It was
the first time in six years AJ Brown not tar
gets first half. Also last couple of years. I saw
(15:03):
this this morning when AJ Brown is held under fifty yards.
Last two years, Philadelphia is seven to zero again. Don't
confuse luxury with necessity when you're doing your budget at home.
The second pair of golf clubs is a luxury. It
(15:24):
is not a necessity. So you know, listen, he can
take his book club to another city. Books travel, Well,
that's how Amazon started. You could always take the book
club to another city. I wouldn't pause for a second. Listen,
it is a position for the reasons we've discussed many times.
You get highly emotional athletes. They want the ball, they're
(15:44):
first out of the huddle, they're on an island. They're
often the best athlete on the team. I get it.
But Aj Brown, this is not the Tennessee Titans when
he left, when he they were just they didn't have
an elite quarterback. They didn't have This offensive line has
an embarrassment of riches. They have nailed the last four
(16:04):
or five drafts top players. It looks like, you know,
it's they hit on all those Georgia s SEC guys.
They got plenty of talent, and plenty of talent and
running back wide receiver. I would move off him in
one second. And he's got a market. And I've said
this before with emotional receivers, not all of them are.
Larry Fitzgerald wasn't is Pook and the cool I don't know,
(16:26):
but here's my thing. Some employees are good for about
three years. I mean, we've all worked with that person.
You know, some people you date, some you marry. Some
people you build a franchise around in all sports. Some
are they come in, they deliver their emotional you don't
want to build a franchise around. We've all had relationships
(16:47):
like that. Some of you marry, some you date. Doesn't
mean who you're dating's less fun, but there's a stability issue.
Maybe you don't trust him as much. They've got habits
you don't love. So in my take is this is
not Aj Brown'stfallen Diggs I said, I like him, Randy Moss.
I love Randy Moss, but Calvin Johnson or Larry Fitzgerald
(17:08):
had a different temperament. You could build around Calvin or Larry.
And I think AJ's just a really talented guy, but
one target with his talent.
Speaker 3 (17:18):
Something's up. Here's j Mickle the news. Turn on the news.
Speaker 2 (17:24):
This is the herd Line News.
Speaker 8 (17:26):
All right, Colin, let's get started with Micah Parsons.
Speaker 4 (17:31):
I cannot believe this. They told me about this, and I'm.
Speaker 3 (17:33):
Like, no way.
Speaker 4 (17:34):
Michaeh. Parsons is already talking trash. He's been in Green
Bay for.
Speaker 8 (17:38):
Five minutes, has an unpacked a suitcase and has unloaded
on the Lions.
Speaker 4 (17:41):
Take a listen.
Speaker 7 (17:44):
I never liked Detroit and never liked him. Mean, when
I was in Dallas, it's just always uh, it was
just always a heavyweight fight every time they came in
or you know, and they kind of got our guys
when I was injury last year. A trick plazer for
people who can't beat you straight up. It's like a
guy running around the ring or day trying to jag.
(18:04):
But meet me in the middle, you know what I mean,
Let's line it up. And I think that's what guys
who tried you trick plays do. They can't beat you
head up.
Speaker 4 (18:13):
What is he doing?
Speaker 3 (18:14):
I love the swagger.
Speaker 8 (18:18):
Do you think they're gonna pull him aside and be like, hey, hey, bro,
that can fly in Dallas with your guy Jerry, We
don't operate like that here. We are professionals, Like he
has not had to play with this team, and he's
lobbing grenades at the Lions, who I believe sweat Green
Bay Lift. Well.
Speaker 1 (18:36):
He also had a spicy podcast, you know, Mike jin
up the numbers. Micah sometimes is about Micah. I think
that's fair to say. He's a little bit about Micah.
I love him as a player, thinks he thinks he
shrinks sometimes against playoff games, against the very best left tackles.
Speaker 3 (18:53):
But uh I you.
Speaker 1 (18:55):
Know, listen, it's football. People get all gassed up and
fired up. So I I listen. Aj Brown worries me
more because when the quarterback doesn't target you, it's saying
volumes a pass rusher before his first game in a
historic franchise against the rival at home, he's fired up.
Speaker 8 (19:15):
You want to give Dan Campbell your boy bulletin board material.
Speaker 4 (19:18):
You sure he's gonna show that clip to his team?
Speaker 3 (19:21):
Whoever?
Speaker 4 (19:21):
The new offensive coordinator is Joe Bob whatever his name is. Hey, guys,
you let's dial up the trick place. Let's get him.
I don't love that Micah for Green Bay. I do
like the factors this weekend.
Speaker 8 (19:31):
Let's move on to Jaden Daniels big game on Fox
Sunday against the Commanders Colin. A lot of the pro gamblers,
I know they love the Giants here getting points Dan Quinn.
He's fired up about his quarterback going into a year two.
Jaden has a rare focus about him. He doesn't get
that too far over his skeys. The best of the.
Speaker 4 (19:51):
Best have that. Hey, he's gonna be facing one of
the best defensive fronts in the league.
Speaker 1 (19:57):
I am so fired up to watch Abdul Carter, who
There are a lot of people felled in the draft.
He was the best player. He would have been a
top six pick in any draft. He was a There
are people from Penn State. There are people that think
he could be Micah level. Like that good, he's a
he is a force, dominant and they didn't play him
a ton in the pre season. I think they saw
(20:18):
after about five snaps they're like, yep, he's good.
Speaker 4 (20:22):
This is an interesting game. I am also curious, you know,
very familiar.
Speaker 3 (20:27):
Yes, Brian Dable, Hey.
Speaker 1 (20:29):
Giants were in a lot of one score games last year.
Speaker 4 (20:33):
Bad bad, bad quarterback play.
Speaker 3 (20:35):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (20:36):
So my take is this is a blazing five in
the thirty five minutes this game.
Speaker 4 (20:41):
May be in it, So you are going to do
blazing five ten. I thought you were talking about chickening
out last year after the.
Speaker 1 (20:47):
Over a year ago, I didn't have the confidence I
have today as a broadcaster, I have grown a lot
in the last thirtieth year of broadcast I'm happy for you.
Speaker 4 (20:57):
Fidal story is.
Speaker 8 (20:59):
Let's go to a less sexy matchup, and that is
Aaron Rodgers against the New York Jets, his old team. Obviously,
Justin Fields was with Pittsburgh last year. Interesting tidbit that
came out yesterday. Garrett Wilson a top ten receiver in
the league. Remember he was voys of Aaron Rodgers last year. Well,
take a listen to this.
Speaker 4 (21:19):
I ain't talked to Aaron since he left, so I
wish him the best this season. Yeah, you know we
ain't chopped though since he left.
Speaker 1 (21:27):
Yeah, you ever noticed that Davontay Adams left him? I
always hear what a great teammate he is. That's funny.
Garrett Wilson is number one receiver. Davontay Adams left Green
Bay for the Raiders. They're tight.
Speaker 3 (21:43):
He and Greg Jennings had a falling out.
Speaker 4 (21:46):
Everybody likes Greg Jennings. He's the nicest guy. Let me.
Speaker 8 (21:49):
I was looking at the Jets depth chart. I mean, listen,
this goes both ways. They know Aaron Rodgers tendencies. The
defense does. Yeah, okay, but Aaron Rodgers knows the skills
set of the v He knows the sauce gardener.
Speaker 4 (22:02):
You know, it's a really to me, it's an interesting matchup.
Speaker 1 (22:06):
I know this is I think it's going to be ugly,
but I think the Texan DRAMs is.
Speaker 3 (22:09):
Going to be ugly.
Speaker 8 (22:10):
Yeah, but that's a that's a better kind of ugly
that this is. Just these are not good teams. Unless
you think the Steelers are okay this year.
Speaker 3 (22:18):
I don't. I think they're I've said I think they're
eight nine or nine and eight. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (22:23):
It's also Aaron Rodgers has been It's almost peculiar. He's
been really bad in a week one. Yeah, when you
hang out in Egypt in the off season, maybe skip
session of ot as. Aaron has not been a fast starter. Yeah,
there are reports he was a burning man two week.
Speaker 4 (22:40):
No, I'm just kidding.
Speaker 3 (22:42):
It's a good, good look for j Mack with the news.
Speaker 2 (22:46):
Well that's the.
Speaker 4 (22:46):
News, and thanks for stopping by.
Speaker 2 (22:48):
The herd Line News.
Speaker 1 (22:52):
So Matt Hasselbeck also today. So I was watching that
game last night, and Micah Parsons is really talented and
Cede Lamb is crazy talented. But we all get the
value of Dak. And if you look at Dak's impact
(23:16):
on the Cowboys career. When Dak plays and Dak starts
and Dak's healthy, they're seventy six and forty six, and
they average twenty seven points a game, a lot of
wins in the NFL. When Dak doesn't play, they average
a touchdown less and he does not throw the prettiest ball.
But he's on his third coaching staff. There's OHA's constant
drama around him. He'd had multiple, I think three ced
(23:40):
lamb drops. But yet, once again, when Dak is healthy,
they're either winning or they're in games. And Dak Prescott
could have had a spicy podcast, now that was Micah.
Dak Prescott could have his own radio show. No, that's
the owner, Jerry Dak could have both of those. His focus,
(24:00):
once again, is on the game and is usually on Sunday.
So I've used a term for years and years. I
call it quarterback heel, like presidential quarterback heel, and I
think last night was a great example of quarterback heal.
This is why I've been tough on Baker mayfielder, Johnny Manzel,
or silly quarterbacks or Drew Locke dancing on the sideline.
Speaker 3 (24:24):
Stop it grow up.
Speaker 1 (24:26):
There is drama everywhere with Dallas every second and last
night before the game, you got a guy spitting at him,
Jalen cart Dak doesn't react. Dak doesn't react well. Dak
spit first. Dak spit on the ground, and then Jalen
Carter comes up and spits on him. Like Dak spit is.
(24:51):
He's got cowboys in front. If he was trying to
spit it somebody, he would have been spitting on Cowboy teammates.
This is quarterback. Heel the up in the room. Here's
Dak on the spitting incident.
Speaker 10 (25:04):
I just spit ahead, but I'd say he was back
there where Joey was in that sense, and he asked,
or he goes, you're trying to spin on me? And
at that point, I mean, I felt like like like
he was insulting me, like I don't I wouldn't spin
on somebody. I'm damn sure you're not trying to spin
on you.
Speaker 3 (25:20):
They were about to play a game.
Speaker 10 (25:21):
I'm wondering why you're trying to mess with the Rookyts.
So when I stepped through, I actually say the words,
what the hell would I excuse me? But I'm probably
even more colorful. What would I need to spin on
you for and he just spin on me in that
moment and was more of a surprise than anything.
Speaker 1 (25:34):
Okay, I have thousand percent trust Dak on that. Dak's
history and resume tells you he wouldn't spit on somebody.
Jalen Carter, as great as he is, half the teams
in the league took him off the draft board. He's
been immature, He's had some emotional stuff. I won thousand
percent trust Dak Prescott. I will look at your life resume.
(25:57):
If you get into chaos or an incident, your resume
will tell me if you're being honest. Dak is being honest.
Dak would not spit on Jalen Carter knowing he is
the face of a ten billion dollar franchise on Thursday
Night Football, a game that's got thirty million people or
(26:18):
forty million people watching. Dak has self awareness. Jalen Carter
apparently none. By the way, here was another moment where
I loved Dak last night. So ceed Lamb drops, who's
the quarterback? I always talk about body language, pouts, grabs, it,
stands by himself on the sideline, ce d Lamb.
Speaker 3 (26:37):
Drop drop drop.
Speaker 1 (26:41):
Did you see a confrontation was Dak screaming did he
have bad body language?
Speaker 9 (26:46):
No?
Speaker 1 (26:47):
Again, life is not about just action, it's reaction. And
two moments last night, the Jalen Carter spit and the
CD Lamb drops and again stoicism e q iq self awareness.
This is really the value of Dak Prescott. He is
the dependable local meteorologist standing in the middle of a storm.
(27:10):
The wind is whipping sleet and hail sideways with the cowboys,
and here's the grown up in the room. So I
thought last night watching him, I hope everybody appreciated all
those drops would drive half the quarterbacks in this league. Not.
Dak is like, well, we make it the ballgame. I
can't get into it. We got time. I mean that ball,
(27:31):
that ball's caught. Dallas wins the game, So just listen.
Dak does not throw the prettiest ball. Dak's had a
second surgery. I've said before, I think he's a great b. Plus,
Eyeball has compared him to Kirk Cousins. He's just gonna
star in his helmet. So we talk about him more
and Kirk Cousins will get Hall of Fame votes, Dak
will get some. But last night his maturity. His eq
(27:54):
were totally on display all right top of the hour.
Speaker 3 (27:59):
Our blazing.
Speaker 1 (28:01):
Oh So Bills and the Ravens this week and is
gonna be the best probably arguably the best game on
the board. Thoughts on that and Kansas City and the
Chargers are overseas. If I was Kansas City, I'd be
a lit worried.
Speaker 3 (28:22):
That's next.
Speaker 2 (28:24):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and noon Eastern non a em Pacific.
Speaker 4 (28:30):
Saturday, the sy Hawks series takes center stage. It all
starts at ten a m. Eastern with the best pregame
show in college football, live from the campus of Iowa State.
Then Rock o'bect leads the Cyclones in a showdown against
Art Trival Iowa on Big Noon Saturday only on.
Speaker 3 (28:49):
Fox Iowa State and Oklahoma and the Big Ones. This week.
I'll be at the USC game. I wrote down some
plays last night.
Speaker 1 (28:54):
I want to hand it to a Lincoln Riley before
the big game with Georgia Southern Georgia who somewhere in
the southern part of the stay. Oh, Georgia Southern, not Athens.
It's a school right next to Athens. Look a little
like Athens, but so tonight Chargers Chiefs. That's a stay
away game for me. The Brazil stuff, I have no idea.
(29:16):
That's just I don't like that travel. I think we
should play in Europe. I think Mexico City is awesome.
I think playing in Brazil is taxing on teams. I'm
not a fan, so I don't know who's gonna win.
But I will say I felt this last year, but
I feel that more this year. This is the year
to knock off the Chiefs. In the AFC, They're rebuilding
left tackle Joe Tooney's gone three straight trips to the
(29:39):
Super Bowl. Guys get more banged up. There's fatigue, receiving corps.
Rashi Rice not back until week six. Will he be
ready to play in week seven or will it take
several weeks to ramp up. This is the year to
beat them and teams that lose the Super Bowl. Four
out of the last six teams that lose the Super
Bowl missed the playoffs. So Kansas City's vulnerable. But I
said this two years ago when Juju Smith Schuster was
(30:01):
their number one receiver and they won the Super Bowl.
So I find that these dynasties are like great entrepreneurs.
They find profits where nobody else can see them, and
they just figure out ways to win. I do think
the obstacle here, and it's a real one for Kansas
City is that dynasties usually have the advantage of dominating
their division and getting home playoff games. Big Ben dominated
(30:26):
the Bengals before Burrow and dominated the Browns. You could
just pencil in three or four wins every year. Tom
Brady played forty one playoff games, only eight, only eight
were on the road. He mostly dominated at the time,
the dysfunctional Bills, the mediocre Dolphins, and the hit and
miss Jets. So and that's where I when I look
(30:48):
at this, my takeaway is last year Kansas City was
dominant in one score games, but now Harbaugh and Herbert
in year two, because Harbaugh historically good in one score
games and especially in season openers, and Sean Payton bow
nicks year two. Well, Sean Payton historically is good in
one score games. So I'm not saying Kansas City that's
(31:11):
won nine straight AFC West titles. I am not saying
that they won't be a playoff team. But one of
the biggest breaks that Tom Brady ever got was his
second year starting, the Colts got moved out of his
division and he got more dysfunction. That was a huge,
huge break for Brady. If Peyton Manning would have been
(31:33):
in that division for fifteen years. He's going on the
road for playoff games and he's not getting buys, and
he's not in Foxborough, and he's probably playing sometimes a
third time. He's meeting Peyton in this time in a dome.
So I don't think they're gonna have the home field
luxury they have won. I looked it up this morning.
Seventeen straight one score games. That's not gonna happen with Chip, Kelly,
(31:54):
Pete Carroll, Sean Payton and Harball, forget the quarterbacks. That's
just not gonna happen. So playoffs absolutely, home field buys
always at Arrowhead weather advantage. I think that's drying up
pretty soon, and I think they're very vulnerable. So the
game of the weekend, many would say, and don't forget
(32:16):
Blazing five, top of next hour is the Ravens at
the Bills. So I thought long and hard about that.
It's just very hard to bet against Lamar Jackson in
the regular season, and it's very hard to bet against
Josh Allen. Ever, so here's Josh Allen on facing Lamar
Jackson in Week one.
Speaker 11 (32:35):
You got Lamar Jackson, who's one of the greatest quarterbacks. Really,
we can already say it of all time. Like he's
an absolute stud, Like he's freakishly talented. He throws the
ball just as good as anybody in the league. And
you know, he's a fun player to watch, and I
got a lot of respect for him.
Speaker 3 (32:53):
He should.
Speaker 1 (32:54):
I looked up Lamar Jackson's career and his all time ranking.
He's still a young player. His winning percentage is sixth,
touchdown to interception ratio, second rushing yards first, passing rating fourth.
You all want to be hard on him because of
his postseason? Could I remind you that Dan Marino in
(33:17):
the postseason with Don Shula eight and ten, Aaron Rodgers
in one of the best run organizations in the league,
Green Bay, one game above five hundred. John Elway got
blown out in how many two or three Super Bowls
before he got Terrell Davis in a run game. So,
and I've never been I'm not a huge fan of holidays,
(33:40):
and I'll tell you why I do love Fourth of
July because there's a cocktail and you get a blow
up stuff. But by and large, I'm not a big
Christmas guy. I like giving out gifts. But my takeaway
is this is that if dad is great for three
hundred days a year, three hundred and fifty days a year,
he may not be a great gift giver.
Speaker 3 (34:00):
Get over it. It's a day.
Speaker 1 (34:04):
Yes, Lamar has had some bad days, but let me
tell you something. Running the franchise, you know, three hundred
and sixty days a year, Lamar is unbelievable. And think
about this. He is the best running quarterback of all time.
That is indisputable. He is the best ever. Last year
(34:26):
he had forty one touchdown passes and only four picks.
As the best running quarterback of all time. And again, dedication, obsession, decency,
beloved by teammates. I think I said this last year.
There's an argument, and this is with a great owner
and a great coach and great teammates, there may not
(34:48):
be another player in the league that feels more like
the soul of their team.
Speaker 3 (34:52):
At quarterback than Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 1 (34:54):
So again, you can give great presents as a parent,
but if you do a crappy job the rest of
the year, you're a bad parent, and you can have
bad playoff games. Elway had him, Marino had him, Aaron's
had a lot of them. Aaron's also a first ballot
Hall of Famer. Marino was also. I mean, Miami still
(35:15):
never found the next day Marino and Denver with Elway,
who was getting blown out in Super Bowls, they had
to go basically trade for Peyton manning four neck surgeries
to ever find anything that kind of resembled John Elway.
So my gut is I think Baltimore wins in the
(35:36):
regular season. I can't bet against Baltimore. And I also
think outside of Philadelphia and maybe including Philadelphia, I think
Baltimore has the best roster in the league. I don't
know where you land on this, but I know it's
at Buffalo. But you know, I think that they oddsmakers now.
(36:00):
I think home Field is mostly a point. It used
to be three to three and a half. New Orleans
with Breeze and Peyton was like four. I think home
Field's maybe a point. The bottom line, this is a
great rush team. You start running the ball, keeping Josh
off the field. You pointed this out earlier this week.
When you pay the quarterback, you have to make exceptions.
(36:22):
Buffalo's a little beat up defensively, and they've had to
get rid of really big, good corners, really good linebackers,
really good safeties, like leaders veterans. They've had to move
off a lot of these guys. So I don't love
Buffalo's roster. I think now their best talent is actually
an offense left tackle, quarterback, running back, tight end. I
(36:42):
thought the first four or five years with Josh it
was Josh and really good defensive personnel. I don't love
Buffalo's defensive personnel right now. I think they're thin in spots.
Speaker 8 (36:53):
If you think back to that matchup last year in
the playoffs, essentially Baltimore beat themselves.
Speaker 4 (36:58):
With the early turnovers, right, Lamarge.
Speaker 8 (37:00):
Is not great, and then they still had a chance
at the end and Mark Andrews with the cat his
worst game as a pro. By the way, if you
want a fun prop bread this week, do you think
the Ravens are going to force feed Mark Andrews in
the red zone?
Speaker 4 (37:11):
I thought about how to get him a touchdown.
Speaker 3 (37:13):
Yeah, you know they're gonna go.
Speaker 8 (37:15):
He was so devastated after that drop. He didn't talk
to the media for a while and then when he
did speak, you could just feel it like he was
more down on the jumps that it was crushing.
Speaker 1 (37:25):
Well, Mark's gonna get Hall of Fame votes, Oh, certainly,
he's a great, great He's gonna get red zone looks
this weekend for sure. You know it's Baltimore Buffalo. You know,
I thought yesterday as I was driving home after the show,
I said, I wish they would have put Ravens bills
on Thursday Night football.
Speaker 3 (37:41):
I said, it's gonna be forty eight to eight.
Speaker 1 (37:44):
And literally after the first two series by Cowboys, I'm like,
I don't know what's going on, but that Jalen Carter absence.
We could talk about that again. There are certain players
in the league. I'll give you an example, Aaron Donald.
You had to double team Aaron. I mean, I've talked
offensive lineman. They laugh about it. They're like, there were
times Aaron Donald's last year he was triple teams. Yes,
(38:06):
And I think Aaron Donald would have been a pro
bowler if he came back. I think Aaron was tired.
Aaron would love this Rams defense because you couldn't double them.
There's just too many good players. But I think Aaron
Donald was just he was exhausted from being triple team.
There is video on the internet of Aaron being triple team.
That is last year as a pro. There are a
lot of good guys rushing the passer from the side
(38:29):
the edge. I mean, when I say all time great
interior lineman, you think of four like Reggie White, Aaron,
Donald Randall, remember the guy for the Vikings. There's not
a lot of great there. Jalen Carter. There's not that
body type, that big, that quick, that twitchy. So when
(38:50):
you take him out of that defense. As good as
Vic Fangio is, I think Vic Fangio in the first
half was trying to figure out, what.
Speaker 3 (38:58):
Do you do?
Speaker 1 (39:00):
They just think Jalen's so unique. Mike is great, Miles
Garrett's great. But there are ten excellent edge rushers in
the league. There's one Jalen Carter. Chris Jones is the
only other one, and Chris you can move around.
Speaker 4 (39:11):
Quinnin Williams. I gotta pump him up. Just very gooy good.
He's close to that he league. The interesting thing about
Jalen Carter, all these guys doing a victory up, Yeah, teams.
Speaker 8 (39:19):
Took them off their board. He's dangerous, radioactive. The guy
was just instrumental to winning a Super Bowl. Okay, you'll
take that for his screw ups, and then you don't
give him a second contract. Fine, we got a super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (39:30):
Go back to the Rams Eagles game. When the Rams
are driving, Stafford hits Puka Nakua right sideline in Philly
and you're like, the Rams are gonna win this game.
Next two pass attempts, Jalen Carter blew up. By the way,
when the Rams beat Joe Burrow and the Bengals, remember
the game winning play Aaron Donald Sean McVay got taped
(39:54):
and he's like, you know, Aaron's gonna do something. Aaron
blew up the play or Joe Burrow and the Bengals
were moving down the field.
Speaker 8 (39:59):
The other Jalen Carter thing is Dak did not run
last night. He had went all over three yards and
I just wonder like, if Jalen Carter's disrupting him to
the middle, he would have been to Dak would have
been forced for it would have just changed the game
so much. I had a hot take for your Boy
music here uh during the last commercial break the Dallas
Cowboys based on what I saw last night. Are gonna
be the Bengals of the NFC. They're gonna be all offense.
(40:21):
They're gonna scare the hell out of some people. And
I don't know about that defense. They're gonna hemorrhage a
lot of points and being a bunch of shootouts.
Speaker 4 (40:27):
Do you agree that yet?
Speaker 3 (40:28):
Kind of thing.
Speaker 1 (40:29):
Also, Also, remember defenses get hurt, right because defensive players
statistically get hurt more often. So last night the Cowboys
defense doesn't have Mica, but it's all healthy. Trevon Diggs
played by the way he did over the course of
the season. That Dallas defense is gonna be on the
field a lot. Okay, they're gonna They're not gonna be
(40:50):
They're not gonna produce a lot of three and outs.
So that Dallas defense and also the Dallas offense with
Pickens and CD will have some quick touchdowns. Those guys
both can go over the top. So that Dallas defense
by about week eight, nine ten, they're gonna be on
the field a lot.
Speaker 3 (41:05):
What's that mean? They're gonna get dinged up.
Speaker 1 (41:06):
I don't think it's a deep defense they I mean
Mawsey Smith now was an inactive last night. Yeah, that
means he's done. So he's done. So Mike had done.
He's a bust. So I think Dallas is deal, right.
Speaker 4 (41:19):
Katy Clark played pretty well in the middle.
Speaker 3 (41:20):
Yeah no, no, no, yeah.
Speaker 1 (41:23):
Kenny Clark had one of their bigger defensive players of
the game, Blazing five coming up next
