You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
One of the surprises has been this year at Pittsburgh.
And it's interesting because my primary complaint about the Steelers
for the last several years is they can't get the
on line right and they can't consistently run the ball.
And then Aaron Rodgers shows up and the pass pro's good.

(00:48):
And I thought Sunday was as progressive, as smart, as capable.
I mean, they lost Nausee Harris, they lost their left tackle,
and Brian ball Dringer is going to join us. He
played in the NFL for thirteen years NFL Network. And
as I watched them, I thought to myself, Baldy, this
is something you would know that I wouldn't. Is that

(01:10):
I do think guys like Sean Payton and Sean mcvahan,
Andy Reid have a greater sense of the offensive line,
and they had been able to rebuild offensive lines very quickly.
I think offensive coaches tend to see that world better.
But there is something about Aaron coming to Pittsburgh and
I finally I watched that run game and I'm like, oh,
this is a twenty twenty five offense. I mean, canna

(01:33):
quarterback help a run game a veteran quarterback?

Speaker 3 (01:37):
Yeah, absolutely, you know ran it.

Speaker 4 (01:39):
They only threw it twenty two times the other day,
but they had to go all the way to Dublin
to find the run game. They'd struggled. But Kenneth Gainwell
got his first start. It was an underrated signing. Andy Wider,
who's wing the Pittsburgh front office now with Omar Khan.
I mean he helped draft Kenneth game Ball out of
Memphis when he was in Philadelphia. They signed him this
offseason to be a backup and special team player. But

(02:00):
he's always been a good player. He just played behind
Saquan last year. He didn't notice him, but I mean
he gave one hundred yards rushing, made you know, some
good runs to some good catches as well.

Speaker 3 (02:10):
But they got the running game going. And then Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 4 (02:12):
I mean it was like Ali Jabs out there, like
you know, this is a z N right here West
Coast offense. But he hit it, hit DK right there
and stride he goes eighty yards. I mean they did
that to Jerry Rice, they did that to Sterling Sharp.
I mean that play has been around for a long time.
And short pass, long run, that's kind of what it is.
But look out quickly, he's getting rid of the football.
He just doesn't want to get hit anymore. But he

(02:34):
still has that ability to just hit these pop passes
and bounce it up with the run game. So the
offense looked real good against a very talented defense.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
So there's been kind of an unsolvable dilemma with the
San Francisco forty nine ers, who now play on a
short week and go on the road and against a younger, athletic,
physical rams defense. It does not bode well they face.
I've never seen a team this banged up for four

(03:03):
years in a row. It never ends, and they're banged
up again. I thought the CBA limited practices. Is it hitting?
Is it a medical staff that may be over their
skis I mean, what explains this.

Speaker 4 (03:16):
Well, I mean you could you could say, okay, Fred
Warner never misses the game in eight years, he started
every game, you know, and he's their best defensive player
and has been. But yes, I mean Nick Bosa goes down,
you know, Kittle goes down, Ayu because you know, I'm
a man. You know, McCaffrey basically missed the season last year.
Perdy has got a bad timmy. You go through all
the great players. I mean, you know the problem is

(03:39):
that if your best players you're paying the most amount
of money to aren't playing, then you're not getting your
bang for your buck.

Speaker 3 (03:45):
And so that's an issue.

Speaker 4 (03:47):
Right now, and that you know that that catches up
to you because the Rams rebuilt that defensive line through
the draft. There's not a guy that's twenty five years
old in that defensive line right now. Yeah, and they're
all they're all interchangeable, led by Jared vers So and
they're healthy. So it's going to be a problem in
what becomes a home game for San Francisco at so

(04:09):
Far on Thursday night.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
Yeah, it is?

Speaker 3 (04:12):
Is it not?

Speaker 5 (04:13):
So?

Speaker 1 (04:14):
I made this argument earlier today. Aj Brown's got a
trophy and he's got his money. He is now playing
for the Hall of Fame. And I've always supported football players.
I've said, listen, basketball guys don't get tackled. Baseball guys
if their non pitchers can play forever, hockey guys again.

(04:34):
Long careers, football players, interior linemen, football players, certain positions
you get about six great years and I look at
AJ Brown and they're trying baldy, but nine targets in
seven yards every other week. And he came from Tennessee
that also struggled to get in the ball. Would it

(04:55):
be would you be a bad teammat or would you
understand if he said, listen, I'm not going to go public.
I'd like to be moved at the deadline. I'm not
useful here. I've been a good guy. I've taken it
for the team. You don't use me. I got you
a trophy? Could you move me? Would you be shocked?
And is that a bad teammate?

Speaker 3 (05:14):
Well, I would be shocked.

Speaker 4 (05:16):
You know, it's a good situation in Philly. I mean,
they're down twenty six to seven to the Rams two
weeks ago and they just all they did was feed
AJ Brown.

Speaker 3 (05:23):
He was a difference in the game, but.

Speaker 4 (05:25):
That was because it was dictated by the situation being
down in the third quarter by that amount of margin.
The thing about AJ is this, it's different than other
wide receivers in that his mentality.

Speaker 3 (05:42):
Is like an offensive tackle.

Speaker 4 (05:44):
He wants to absolutely obliterate the opponent in front of them.
He wants to take every corner the way Lane Johnson
takes every defensive end or Jordan Malatta takes every defensive
end and wants to drill him into the dirt, into
the dirt and have meat grass. That's what AJ wants
to do. But if he doesn't ever get that chance,

(06:04):
then that's what frustrates him. It's not the it's not
the lack of targets or the lack of use, is
that he can't use his physical skills to beat Marshawn
Lattimore up, you know, to beat Traybon Digs up, like
to pound these guys.

Speaker 3 (06:17):
And that's what Iri I've talked to AJ about it.

Speaker 4 (06:20):
He's not a me me guy, but he doesn't get
that opportunity.

Speaker 3 (06:24):
That frustrates him.

Speaker 1 (06:26):
So there's always been this since that you can't fool
the players. And when the Cowboys treaded Micah, a lot
of people said, well, you're gonna lose the locker room
because everybody loved Micah, and my take was, well, they
all love Dak and they all respect Ceedee Lamb. Micah
had his podcast. You know, Micah was always kind of

(06:47):
a sea ball attack ball guy. I don't know if
that I mean. I watched Dallas last couple of weeks, Brian.
It looks like they have great spirit. I think they're
playing better than their talent. I thought that the good
argument to not trade him was he's a good player.
But if you may lose the room and Shottenheimer's not

(07:07):
Andy Reid, I don't see it. I don't see an
affective football.

Speaker 4 (07:12):
See that defense give up forty Yes, Sunday you see
the defense.

Speaker 3 (07:15):
Give up thirty seven to the Giants.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
But they were bad with him.

Speaker 4 (07:20):
No, they weren't that bad. They weren't giving up thirty
seven or forty points a game. In fact, I don't
think they've ever given up forty points when Mike is
out there.

Speaker 3 (07:27):
Look, when you.

Speaker 4 (07:28):
Have star players, like sometimes you got to kiss their ass,
like you got to like babe him, you gotta. You
can't treat them all the same. And so Mike has
got a different personality, but so many defensive linemen and
pass rushers are different They're just different. They're not your
offensive line sitting around taking out.

Speaker 3 (07:45):
The trash at night.

Speaker 4 (07:46):
Like. These guys are different animals, and so you gotta be.
I mean, Jimmy Johns wouldn't get rid of Mike Parsons,
no way. Bill Parcells wouldn't get rid of Michael Parsons.
And I'm not saying that's why they got rid of it.
I'm just saying, when you got a great player, you
figure out a way to keep them.

Speaker 3 (08:02):
Because they have no pass rush right now.

Speaker 4 (08:04):
And that's one of the reasons why Russell Wilson could
look like Russell.

Speaker 3 (08:07):
Wilson, you know, circa twenty fifteen.

Speaker 1 (08:11):
The It's funny this week Baker plays Sam Donald. They
came out in the same draft. I was a huge
Donald guy, not as much Baker. I thought he needed
to grow up. When when Baker had some early success
in Cleveland, Sam for about five years it was ugly.
Are you shocked by this or were you? Were you

(08:33):
always a he just needs the right spot or did
you think you know what? He's overwhelmed, his delivery slow,
he's a little RECKLESSU. I mean Baker showed moments early
Sam didn't. Are they play this week. Are you shocked
by the resurgence of Donald I'm.

Speaker 3 (08:51):
Not shocked just because I know Sam.

Speaker 4 (08:54):
But you know, if you spend a year, you know,
with you know, the way he did, you know, and
Sam Francisco and you're watching, Oh, this is how quarterbacks
are supposed to, you know, get coached.

Speaker 3 (09:05):
This is what quarterback the.

Speaker 4 (09:07):
Luxury of having Deebo and Ayu Can Kittle and Mcat. Oh,
this is what it's like when you have, you know,
just all those riches around you.

Speaker 3 (09:15):
What you can do with the ball.

Speaker 4 (09:17):
How brock Perry played like he saw some other places
and he's like, okay, you know, and now he's got,
you know, a similar situation right now where he's got
a good offense line in Seattle, he's got a good
coaching Clint Kubiak, got a good system, he's got a go.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
To guy in Jackson Smith and Jigba.

Speaker 4 (09:32):
He's got enough pieces around him in the run game
like Sam could do this.

Speaker 3 (09:37):
I believe in Sam and he's he's a good athlete.

Speaker 4 (09:39):
He's smart, and he's diligent, and so he's got everything
it takes to be really good.

Speaker 3 (09:44):
Baker was a walk on at Texas Tech. He all
he did was compete.

Speaker 4 (09:48):
He walked on at Oklahoma, you know, like, yes, he
was a number one pick, but he took Cleveland.

Speaker 3 (09:54):
To a playoffs and won a playoff game.

Speaker 4 (09:56):
Like Baker's just a fiery, fiery competitor that just refuses,
like what he did last weekend's Philadelphia. He made those
seventy yard touchdown throws like he gave it everything he
had in that heat to try and you know, to
beat the Eagles.

Speaker 3 (10:11):
They just came up a little short.

Speaker 1 (10:13):
Finally, Caleb Williams, there is no questioning the horsepower, but
man operations, Baldy, I mean false starts, dirting screen passes.
Can you be really successful multiple playoff wins if the

(10:34):
layups are a struggle? I know the firepowers there, I
see the arm. Can you win a bunch of games
if you're a guy that's the floor can get really low,
really fast.

Speaker 4 (10:47):
Well, he was playing with two you know, rookie backup
tackles last week and still had a decent game. Theo
Bennett Bennetette out there and Ozzie Trappel. I mean that's
not ideal. But however, he is missing some layups. But
he's also got some wild factor too. I believe in
Ben Johnson. I think you know just what he did
with Tyson Pagent in the preseason, Colin, like you know,

(11:10):
he was always talking about Pajent like he was in.
He gave him a contract and all this stuff. I
think everything was to motivate and to light a fire
under Caleb, like take the hard coaching, don't fight it.

Speaker 3 (11:21):
Take it.

Speaker 4 (11:22):
He's doing better from the pocket than he did before.
He's not bailing so quickly, He's staying there and making
his reads when he can. He's still probably a little
too too wild out there a little bit, but I
think I think this thing is going to work, and
so we needed to work. Honestly, Colin, we need great
quarterbacks in this league. We need great quarterback coaching. We

(11:45):
need Chicago to be good. You know, we need that
market to be good. They've been dying for a long time.
So we need this thing to work for this league.

Speaker 1 (12:36):
Yeah, I said, there are there are organizations in sports
because of the Packers' success knocking on your door up north.
I think Chicago probably is in a situation, Baldy, where
it's like, guys, if we give it three years, we
give it three years. We have to make it work
because you know, if he goes to another organization and

(12:58):
he gets a mcfire.

Speaker 3 (13:00):
Project, that's the way we're seeing this whole lead right now.

Speaker 1 (13:03):
That's right, and you don't want that. So I I
do think. I I think he's getting better, and I
am I am in ben I trust guy as well. Baldy,
you did a red eye. You're probably tired. You had
to deal with the terminal and lax that we all dread.

Speaker 3 (13:20):
Not my favorite, not my favorite. I got my walk
in for the day though, trying to get to my gate.

Speaker 1 (13:25):
Though I know what gate. It is great seaninge Brian
as always.

Speaker 3 (13:30):
Yeah, thanks, con So taught you soon, you bet.

Speaker 1 (13:34):
I just got good news today from the staff. Delta
is gonna fly La to Chicago. I've been slumming it
with other airlines. I get my I get my Delta.
I flew Delta NonStop for like eight years and they
don't do all hair. And now when does that come?
Isn't an amazing jew isn't it amazing? You'd be like,

(13:55):
Delta doesn't fly to old hair. Good luck, fine on
a good flight. It's just changed my life. Jam Mark
with the news.

Speaker 3 (14:06):
This is the headline news, right.

Speaker 5 (14:09):
Let's start with the Buffalo Bills Collin four and oh
best team in the AFC by a mile. Josh Allen
has been excellent, but how on my guy James Cook
four hundred and one rushing yards. That's good for second
in the NFL and leads the league with five rushing tuddies.
Alan spoke to what Cook brings to the offense.

Speaker 6 (14:29):
Seems like he's getting better eaching every week, which is
hard hard to imagine the way that he kind of
has this patient to hit the hole. But when he
hits it, I mean he's shot out of a cannon.
His contact balance is unbelievable. His jump cuts are are awesome.
You glad he's on our team.

Speaker 1 (14:49):
Interesting game this week against the team that can run
the football, the New England Patriots. A rival you like
the Patriots here, huh? I just think all I know this,
Josh Allen Drake May for the next ten years are
gonna face each other twice a year because the Patriots
have their guy. Now, Josh is way ahead of him.

(15:11):
But I'm telling you New England is not far away.
New England is New England is you know Buffalo needed
James Cook to change kind of their sensibility offensively. You
and I had talked about this and aj Brown. I
think they need the number one receiver in New England
because I think they got their left tackle, Will Campbell.

(15:32):
They've got a back they like, they've got their quarterback,
they've got their coach, they've got their coordinator. I do
not think New England's far off.

Speaker 5 (15:41):
What was it the forty two unanswered points against Carolina
that sold you? I ain't come on, let's slow down
just a little nit, my friend.

Speaker 1 (15:50):
The number is eight and a half. You're taking the
points in the divisional match up, I'm taking the points.

Speaker 5 (15:55):
I wonder if the Bills were so bad against the
Saints that they were looking ahead to this matchup. I
mean they were futrid against the Saints. Saints rush for
like a buck eighty five.

Speaker 1 (16:05):
That's what I'm saying.

Speaker 5 (16:06):
You can run the ball on Buffalo, and I saw
one hundred and sixty something of those yards were after contact,
So Buffalo not wrapping up?

Speaker 7 (16:13):
Now?

Speaker 5 (16:13):
Will Mulano's a great linebacker and Ed Oliver will they
return this week?

Speaker 1 (16:18):
Interesting? Okay, all right, let's move on to Ashton genty.

Speaker 4 (16:23):
A lot of.

Speaker 5 (16:23):
Raiders fans on the staff. They got a wedge Ashton
genty in there. He had a hell of a game
against your Bears. One hundred and fifty five yards, three touchdowns.
The one major difference in gent was that he was
back to his upright stance in the backfield. I'm sure
you saw that. Pete Carroll talked about it.

Speaker 3 (16:39):
You guys have all said it.

Speaker 7 (16:40):
Everybody's was away for he just needs to get break
one run or whatever. Well, he did, and he had
a great game, and he looked fantastic for us, and
Raheem looked really good too. I thought the two complimented
well and that Chip did a nice job of taking
what was there in the running game, and it was
a big game for us.

Speaker 2 (16:57):
You know.

Speaker 7 (16:58):
So when I come out of the away from you know,
watching the film last night, I saw nothing but upside.
And because the ability to run the football, to have
a running back that is a real threat, a running
game that's a real threat, allows us so much balance.

Speaker 5 (17:18):
So of course we have here's the images genty kind
of a little bit bent over and then standing straight up.
They call that the Halloween lineup because you know, Michael
Myers and Halloween just was like scary standing straight up.

Speaker 1 (17:31):
Yeah. Wait, look at the tricets on genty. Huh no,
he he he's a pass receiver, he's a he's a
clever player. I mean, they they've got their tight end,
he's all banged The brock Powers is all banged up.
That's Jacoby Myers, Brock Powers asking gent Now, Colton Millery
got banged up their left tackle. That ain't great because

(17:52):
and the other thing is the Colts have a very
good offensive line. Max Crosby is a force, so if
they can slow him down, I think the Colt seat,
I think this is a really good matchup for the Colts.

Speaker 5 (18:06):
Final story is very spicy. NBA Media Day was yesterday.
Colin and Yannis talked kind of openly about demanding a
trade in the offseason and he could have and then
he didn't show up for media day because he had COVID.

Speaker 1 (18:21):
Is that still a thing? I didn't know?

Speaker 5 (18:22):
So he was on Zoom. I mean, listen, Milwaukee Bucks
fans are panicked about this. Here's Yannis on Zoom yesterday
talking about a trade.

Speaker 8 (18:31):
Well, the team that loves me and kiss me in
chest to win a ten? Is that the first time
I had the same thoughts Last year, I had the
same thoughts. Two years ago, I had the same thoughts.
But five years ago twenty twenty twenty. So he is
n'table about to chase. I want to be the best,
I want to compete to the best, and I want
to do with another chomb shit.

Speaker 1 (18:52):
So it gets even worse.

Speaker 5 (18:53):
So one of the owners of the Bucks afterward was like, hey, well,
you know he talked to us about this summer.

Speaker 2 (18:58):
He's committed he.

Speaker 5 (18:59):
Wants a winner Titlelwaukee, and reporters asked the honest, he goes,
I don't recall that conversation. Listen, I know you're mister
Midwest now and you love you some.

Speaker 3 (19:08):
Milwaukee, I do, Colin.

Speaker 5 (19:10):
They better get rid of him now, like just get
trade the honest now, get a max return, because the
longer you wait, the fewer suitors there are for this.

Speaker 3 (19:18):
I mean, he's a top three player in the league.

Speaker 1 (19:20):
Yeah, and that's why they're reluctant to let him go.
I'm going to a Milwaukee Bucks game this year, just one. No,
I've got it circle. I'm going to watch a Milwaukee
Bucks game here against the Bulls. But oh Bulls there.
Their thing is we're never going to get another Yannis,
And my thing is, you got a title. Not every
market gets multiple titles. It's not a sexy free agent market.
You could get a ton for him, I think two.

(19:45):
I think three years ago they got old. Yeah, I
just would, and I'm not. You know, these guys that
work in these pro front offices are smart people. I
just thought three years ago they were getting very very old.
Chris Middleton was showing health issues and you know Brooks Lopez,
and it was like, guys, you got to make some
moves and they didn't.

Speaker 5 (20:04):
They well they did, they went after Dame right, Well.

Speaker 1 (20:07):
Yeah, but that didn't solve anything. Dame was Dame was
a poor defensive player, and you know Drew Holliday is
an excellent guy and an excellent defensive player. So that
you did that to get situational. You know, they wanted
a late game, late shot, block three guy. They got it,
but it was a big loss defensively. So it was
you got some here and less there. And I I

(20:30):
it's very easy for me to say I would have
moved him Jannis last year, or or I would have
made more moves three years ago because I saw here
here comes the Celtics. And I mean, right now to me,
Jason Tatum's a mile ahead of schedule for the Celtics.

Speaker 5 (20:46):
Are you following this instow.

Speaker 1 (20:51):
He will play at the I think he'll play after
the All Star Game. It looks like Halliburton probably won't.
So I think Boston's gonna end being the toast of it.
And I think, you know, we'll see what the knicks
and the coaching, but.

Speaker 5 (21:03):
Nine on my mix, they gotta be the favorites in these,
don't they Jason.

Speaker 1 (21:10):
The Celtics kind of out and the past is playing
in the secondard. Have you seen their starting lineup, Colin.

Speaker 5 (21:16):
I mean, let's not worse than the Bucks, but they've
lost so many people from that championship team. How about Yannis?
Can the Lakers find a way to get Yannis in
exchange for Lebron and expiring deal and get picks? And okay,
just gotta get excited for the Lakers.

Speaker 1 (21:30):
Of my new neighbor, Luka Dancic. He's not your neighbor,
not next door, but I got a three minute by
crid J. Mack with the news.

Speaker 2 (21:40):
Well that's the news, and thanks for stopping by the
herd Line News.

Speaker 1 (21:45):
It is h It's so much easier for me to
just say trade this guy, trade that guy. But it
you know, it's like I said at the top of
the Hour of Miami, I mean Tyreek Hill, there's no
value now, I said last year. He's banging on your coach,
he's banging on your quarterback. Nothing against him, but he
has a market. Somebody needs him. They waited. You know
the old saying strike when the iron's hot, and you know, Tua,

(22:08):
you do get. The longer you wait, the greater chance
he gets hurt. You could get a nice pick for Tua.
If you could get a third round pick for him,
a couple of fours or something like that, then you
could trade up and get your next quarterback. He's got
a bigger cap hit next year, I think than Justin Herbert.
What are you doing so, Mike McDaniel, I do think.
I do think it's a really good offensive coach. But

(22:30):
I you know, it's like, if you think about it,
do it. What you want to do in sports is
you want to be ahead of stuff. You don't want
to be behind stuff. There is an NFL team right
now that this past draft. It's not public, but they're
going to move off a really really high end defensive

(22:52):
player and everybody and they drafted a position that they
didn't need and they sold it like, oh my god,
he just jumped off tape. They're a year out for
moving a pretty good player, not a great player, but
a pretty good player. That's what you have to do.
And I think Miami keeps being incredibly patient and they're

(23:13):
getting burned. Tyreek Hill now has no market. You could
have gone out and gotten a third round pick for
Tyreek Hill. And now you know you cross your fingers
if you hope he has more games in him.

Speaker 2 (23:26):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
in noon Easter non a em Pacific on Fox Sports
Radio FS one and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (23:39):
So Philadelphia and AJ Brown became a big topic today.
So I've said I usually am a big believer in
don't chase the money, you know, chase good management. There's
a sea of money if you're talented, but pro athletes
are different, especially football players. They don't their careers don't
last long. And so if you look at the two
worst halves of throwing the football in the NFL this year,

(24:03):
we have a graphic for our TV audience. Philadelphia has
both of them. That is with the best offensive line
in football, that is with Saquon Barkley, that's with an
offensive leaning staff, that's with Jalen Hurts. And my take
is AJ Brown's got a ring, He's got his money.
You know, he's playing for legacy here. I would understand

(24:23):
if he said, quietly, if you want to trade me
at the deadline, I get it. I mean, the Eagles
started twenty twenty three ten and one. Remember they had
new coordinators Stich and Laugh. They ended up falling apart
down the stretch and losing six of seven. They have
a new offensive coordinator, and is part of the problem
that now they're so gifted that they can kind of

(24:46):
win games where they have horrible halfs. But in back
to back weeks they have been dreadful offensively rams first half,
buck second half. I mean as bad as the Titans
like cannot pick out first outs. Pun punk up and
Nick right earlier on a potential under the radar tell
the bosses, don't tell anybody else, AJ Brown trade.

Speaker 9 (25:11):
Something is off right now about their offense, but they're
winning anyway. If they're not going to change that, then
I would not begrudge if AJ Brown were like, Hey,
you know a team that wants to throw the ball,
that needs a star receiver that my former head coach
is the head coach of in New England. Why don't

(25:32):
you see if you can work something out. He's been
very honest. He wants to be a dominant individual player
and he feels correctly that will help his team.

Speaker 1 (25:43):
So Nick Sirianni's been better than I thought. But he's
not known as a schematic genius. Remember when Nick Sirianni
took the job, he called plays, it was awful. He
handed it off to Shane Steichen. Then they got hot.
Nick Sirianni is a vibe, he's a CEO. He's a
culture guy. Dan Campbell the same. Dan Campbell's not a

(26:05):
scheme guy Schottenheimer scheme guy, Andy Reid scheme guy, Sean
Payton scheme guy. A lot of guys are culture builders.
A lot of that is like Mike Vrabel is a
really smart guy, but he's going to build that toughness
and that culture that Sirianni. So Sirianni is very dependent
on his offensive coordinator Steich in home run, Brian Johnson

(26:26):
had to fire him. So he's got a new coordinator
in there, and you're seeing and there's absolutely no excuse
for this team having the two Think about this the
entire league. The Titans haven't had two halves as bad
as the Eagles. Is it the coordinator? Whatever it is?
But I get, I mean, I don't think it's selfish. Again,

(26:47):
if you know, it'd be one thing if you were,
you know, a lawyer and you were twenty nine years
old and you're like, hey, I want I want to
be a partner in the firmer. I'm out of here.
And it's like, Bro, you're twenty nine. You just got
out of you know, law schools five years ago. You
got sixty years to practice law. But it's different for
football players. Again, a golfer can golf forever. The basketball players,

(27:12):
even ones that have serious injuries, can play fifteen twenty years.
Brian Baldinger was talking about AJ Brown earlier and his
mentality that makes them such a unique player.

Speaker 4 (27:23):
The thing about Aj is this, He's different than other
wide receivers in that his mentality is like an offensive tackle.
He wants to absolutely obliterate the opponent in front of him.
He wants to take every corner the way Lane Johnson
takes every defensive end or Jordan Malatta takes every defensive

(27:46):
end and wants to drill him into the dirt, into
the dirt and how to meet grass. That's what AJ
wants to do. But if he doesn't ever get that chance,
then that's what frustrates him.

Speaker 1 (27:57):
So you know, listen, AJ Brown's right, he's a good teammate.
I mean, even reading the book things, he's been a
little nuanced with it. He's not tried to blow up
the locker room, but you know, I get the frustration.
So Major League Baseball postseason officially starts this afternoon. The
Cubs and the Podres. That's a good series. If the
Podreys gotta lead, good luck, great bullpen, we can put

(28:20):
up the postseason bracket. I I have no idea. Detroit
was really good and fell apart. Probably take Guardians. Red
Sox are going to miss one of their top pitchers.
That's not good. Probably take Yankees Mariners jays By. I

(28:40):
think the Mariners are going to get out of the
American League. I don't think the Yankees have good enough
starting pitching National League. I think the Reds are pesky.
I take the Dodgers, but the Dodgers have a bad
bullpen blew twenty six saves, so I think the Reds
compete with them. Probably take the Dodgers. Philly's brewers get
a buy Podreys Cubs. That's go either way. Who's the

(29:07):
favorite in that series? Padres they got some big sticks,
so do the Cubs. Padres have probably the better bullpen.
I think Philadelphia beats the Dodgers after the Dodgers beat
the Reds. I'd probably take Philly again. Philly's got the sticks,
They've got solid starting pitching in a better bullpen. I

(29:27):
think the Brewers are gonna they can hit for power.
Led the Baseball National League in singles. Great, good enough staff,
good manager, great bullpen. I don't know, Cubs Padres. There's
a lot of dudes in that series. That is a
good series. There is a lot. I mean, it's amazing
low this. You've got small market Cleveland, smaller market Seattle,

(29:50):
a Canadian team, two legendary Eastern brands, Boston, New York.
You've got the one hundred million dollar Reds budget, the
Dodgers in the Philly and then you've got small market also.
The Cubs are favored to win over the Podrays. Yeah,
very close. That's what it feels like. I've said before,

(30:12):
it's impossible to win a Super Bowl with a bad
offensive line. The Kansas City Chiefs twice, once against Brady
and once against the Eagles, had Andy Reid, Mahomes and
a great defense. Go to the Super Bowl and get crushed.
I don't think you can win the World Series with
a bad bullpen. I think you're talking about the best
situational hitters, the best sticks and if you're bleeding runs

(30:32):
eighth ninth Dodgers, I mean, Dodger fans will tell you
they could have won with a not even a great bullpen.
With a good bullpen, they could have eighteen more wins.
Not with a great bullpen. Even great bullpens blow leads
like they lost twenty six leads late. So I think

(30:53):
there's a lot of teams. I think the Podrays are dangerous.
Although the Dodgers have had their postseason number, I think
the Phillies are good enough to win it. In Chicago,
they're going crazy for the Cubs. I'll take Milwaukee. You
know they say everybody says, well, the salary gap in baseball,
it doesn't matter in the postseason, but it does help
you in the regular season. Well, it can't help that

(31:15):
much because Milwaukee has been the best team in baseball
and a Canadian team got in. It can't help that much.
San Diego's not major market, so we have a history
of salary distortion not mattering in the postseason much. Go
look at the last thirteen World Series champs. It doesn't
matter much. It may help in the regular season, but

(31:36):
who cares. We watch baseball tonight on that's when we
watch it, see them on

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
