Speaker 2 (00:21):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
Well three Super Bowl rings, a Super Bowl MVP, Fox
NFL kickoff every Sunday. He's in Boston right now. It's
Julian Edelman joining us here.

Speaker 3 (00:35):
On a Thursday.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
So I imagine being in being it's kind of like
your hometown. I know you're from the Midwest, but you
got your charities there. I imagine if you turn on
sports radio, Drake May is getting the love. I imagine
everybody in Boston is talking about Drake May.

Speaker 3 (00:53):
What do you make of him so far?

Speaker 4 (00:56):
I think he's been doing real well and he's definitely
the talk of town here in Boston. I mean, I
just went to breakfast, the guy over comes out, Oh,
Drake May, we're back.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
We're back.

Speaker 4 (01:05):
We have to be back, And the excitement is definitely
there and they should have it because I mean, he's
what he's throwing for ten touchdowns, he's top five and
passing yards, and he only had two interceptions. It's fumbled
the ball three times, which he fumbled ten times last year.
So he's getting better each week and they're winning ballgames.
So you know, I think this will be another good
test for them this week. And you know, I'm excited

(01:29):
just as much as everyone else because the better they are,
the more I get to talk.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
Yeah, you know, when whether it's Tiger Woods, Serena Williams,
your Dynasty, the Warriors with Durant, the Chiefs, I do
think and maybe football is different, maybe Belichick made it different,
but you know, when you're just humming in football, the
Chiefs right now feel like man the eye test. They're
getting Rashid Rice back. How do you stay self motivated

(01:59):
when you know we got a better coach, we got
a better quarterback, we got better schemes, we got better players.

Speaker 3 (02:05):
Is it hard to be Kansas City? Was it hard?

Speaker 1 (02:07):
Even though you mostly on Sunday have had the better
check check check across the board?

Speaker 4 (02:13):
Yeah, And I would say that the Chiefs are not
in that necessarily the category of we need to motivate.
I think they're in the category of we've been good
for so long. Each year we lose coaches, we lose
players a lah Toney in the middle of the line,
guys suspended like Rashi Rice, and they use this first
part of the season to really learn what they what

(02:35):
they're going to be this year, their identity, and it
took them a little more time because of the lack
of practice we all talk about because of the CBA
and all that. So they're still learning their team now.
When you know it's week eleven and you're eight and
one or eight and three and you're playing a team
that that's when you have to start creating motivation. But
I don't think that's the category that these guys are in.

(02:56):
I think they're just trying to figure out what they're doing.
And the teams that really fall in love with the
process of improving each week are the teams that are
always there at the end. Because you've got to play
with the injury bug. You're gonna lose a couple of
guys in those first six seven weeks. Do you get
them back in the back end as long as the
team continues to improve each week, those are the teams

(03:19):
that succeed and That's what the Chiefs have done for
the last six seven years. They just continue to improve
their team, look at the things they're deficient at, try
to work on those scrap plays that they're not doing well,
bringing a couple of their drawn up plays that coach
Andy has them do on Friday after practice whatever, that

(03:39):
whole thing where everyone gets to contribute to bringing up
play in So I think that's where they are right now,
is just trying to learn their team and the league
better strap up because I think they're better than they
are last year at this point. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
Same here.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
The trade deadline a couple of weeks away. And my
theory has always been if you have a star quarterback
the Chargers Josh Allen, but you have a deficiency the Rams,
you can go for it. Don't give up the house,
but go for it. If the Giants you save your picks,
you're not a Super Bowl contender. The interesting thing is,
I don't remember New England doing a ton of trade

(04:15):
deadline stuff.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
I do.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
I mean, obviously sometimes you get to a point week
seven or eight and you're like, we have a hole,
we need to slot corner. Do you how it's weird?
You have this strong culture in New England. Hey, we're
going to bring in an outsider. What did you make
of that? What did you make a free agency in
the trade deadline?

Speaker 3 (04:34):
Did you like it?

Speaker 1 (04:34):
I mean, I can't imagine busting my butt.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
For years, all of a sudden, here comes a starter.

Speaker 1 (04:40):
If you're a corner, can it affect chemistry on the team?

Speaker 4 (04:45):
It can, But that's when you rely on your leadership.
I remember in twenty twelve we brought in a key
to lead during the trade deadline. Yeah, and because we
had such a tight group of leaders on the team
at that point, he came in and we were a
a lot better because of him, and then we built
off that. The next year wins the AFC Championship and
lost to Denver, and then he ended up signing Denver.

(05:06):
But you know, I think that all comes back to
the leadership of your team. Like you said, usually the
teams that are going to make these trades have the quarterback.
And if the quarterback's the guy in the locker room
that's the highest pig guy playing the best, everyone else
falls in line. So I'm all for bringing guys in,
especially if you have a great chemistry and in a

(05:27):
great locker room.

Speaker 3 (05:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
I remember Gronk one time going to the podium and
he was literally he said, I don't want to say
this coach is going to get really mad at me.
And then I watched Tua go to the microphone and
kind of throw the staff under the bus. And my
take is people make mistakes in life, but you wouldn't

(05:50):
do that if you had a little fear with the
head coach.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
You wouldn't.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
You wouldn't call out the coaching staff with Andy Reid.
You wouldn't do it, you know, with Mike Tomlin, and
you wouldn't do it with Rabel. I looked at two
and I thought, that's my issue with Miami is I
think Mike McDaniel smart. But when a player goes and
takes shots at like the staff, that we got a
culture issue.

Speaker 3 (06:14):
I mean, what did you make of that?

Speaker 4 (06:17):
Yeah, I mean we never did that. If there was
ever a problem that was takeing that, you know, you
handle that closed doors with with the team. We never
talked about contracts. We never talked about drama. And we
had drama, okay, And that's honestly the way you're supposed
to do it, because then it becomes a distraction to

(06:39):
the team. Now, I think the Dolphins are just fundamentally
designed this way. I mean, you got you bring it
a bunch of guys that aren't culture guys. When it's time,
when when stuff's hitting the fan, who's going to be
the serious guy. So I think they're just fundamental wrong

(07:00):
on how they're built. I think we got to take
a look at who's building the team because look, we
paid two after you know he's been he's been hurt
a bunch. We bring in Tyreek Hill and we all
know what he is off the field. These are your
best players who are their core Nukilus guys we don't know,
they've never really had them. So I think this was

(07:23):
a terrible way to to handle it because you know,
if there's a drama, you keep that in between your building,
in your meeting rooms, and you don't bring it out
to the public. We've we've had way too much of
this stuff with in Miami for the last however, long
before coach McDaniels.

Speaker 1 (07:44):
You know, I would It's funny you hear these stories
about Brady and Brady was LFG. The difference is I
think he I think Brady had some Baker Mayfield in him.

Speaker 3 (07:57):
But Tom was very measured.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
When you go on EI radio or the podium, I
just think Tom hit it. I think he has some Baker,
he had Hootzpot, he could be at attitude. When I
watch Baker, I think there's guys that have it. I
just think Baker is not afraid to say it at
the podium. Do you like his personality when he comes

(08:20):
out and just I mean, he just doesn't care what
he's going to say at the podium.

Speaker 3 (08:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (08:25):
I love his personality because he's a dog. But the
reason why it's working right now is because he's performing.
And you know, when you can go out and show
that you can make the plays and the high pressure situations,
it makes everyone on the team believe. I played on
a team where we thought we could win every week
because of our quarterback, and it seems like right now

(08:46):
Tampa they have such a belief in Baker, regardless if
it's how he talks to the media or how he's playing.
They believe. And when they believe, the defense plays a
little better, the offense plays a little better, the special
teams plays a little better. Because it's a quarterback league
and we all depend on the quarterback. So I think
that's where the similarities are with Tom and Bake are

(09:08):
that everyone believes that they're the guy. If you believe
he's the guy, it doesn't matter how you get him
to believe. They're believing.

Speaker 1 (09:16):
Finally, tonight we got too old forty year old quarterbacking
on Thursday night. Do you remember a game on Thursday
when you had a big Sunday. Let's say you had
twelve targets, nine catches, and you got beat up a little,
and all of a sudden, here comes Thursday where you
still sore. Wednesday night and Thursday morning, Oh.

Speaker 4 (09:34):
Yeah, without a doubt, Thursdays your whole team key is,
let's just get out with a win. It's usually going
to be a fundamental week because there's no practice. Either
you're probably going to be in shells or you're going
to have accelerated walkthroughs. Everyone's trying to get their body
the best they possibly can. It'll be a real vanilla scheme,

(09:55):
you know, because you're going to run the best plays
that your team runs the best at because you're not
gonna have a lot of mental you're not gonna have
a lot of physical reps. And it always seems to
be a Division game whenever it's a Thursday. I felt
like we played the Jets a bunch, So there is
gonna be that familiarity, there's gonna be that rivalry, but
it's whatever it takes to get to win, and Aaron

(10:15):
right now is playing that way. He's doing what it
takes to win ball games, not put up huge numbers.
And I think he's doing a great job. And I
believe that they're gonna come in. I know they don't
do very well on the Pittsburgh Steelers don't do well
on Thursday nights on the road or whatever, But I
think this is a different year with Aaron. He seems
to be in a good space. The team believes in him,

(10:37):
and you know, I know that they haven't played anyone
very special yet, but when you continue to collect wins,
you gain confidence. And all these guys are looking up
at their quarterback. They haven't seen a guy like that
since Big Ben got hurt his last year, or a
couple of years before his last year. So you know,
I'm excited to see what the Steelers do. And you know,

(10:58):
the Thursday night games definitely sore. You definitely want to
get out of there and you want to get the
game done with with the win because it is a
baby bye afterwards. So everyone's got a little light at
the end of the tunnel.

Speaker 2 (11:09):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and Noone Easter not a Empacific.

Speaker 4 (11:14):
Hi, this is Jay.

Speaker 5 (11:15):
I'm the producer of the Pauli and Tony Fusco Show.
Usually in these promos they asked you to listen to
the show. I'm here to ask you please don't listen
to the show. The hosts are two absolute morons who
have the dumbest takes on sports, imagicable. Don't listen to
the show so it can get camps.

Speaker 3 (11:29):
What the hell are you doing our studio? Get him?

Speaker 6 (11:35):
Ignore that fool.

Speaker 7 (11:36):
Listen to the Pauline Tony Fusco Show on the iHeartRadio
app or wherever you get your podcast.

Speaker 1 (11:41):
He's still moving, Yeah, Julian Edelman Games with Names podcast
doing his local charities in Boston, as he's prone to
do when he goes back home.

Speaker 3 (11:52):
And it's great scene.

Speaker 4 (11:52):
Him put me in, Baby, put me in and Boys
and Girls Club of Boston. Everyone go check him out.

Speaker 1 (11:58):
Awesome, Thanks buddy, All right, guys, Julian Edelman, Yeah, Thursday
night games are my bigger issues the dual Monday night games.

Speaker 3 (12:07):
What's the point you're taking quarterback?

Speaker 1 (12:09):
I mean you took Josh Allen out of the Sunday
window and then you took Caleb and Jayden Daniels out
of the Sunday window. So back to back weeks once. Uh,
it was like I think it was a buye for
the Bears, and then it was Monday night.

Speaker 3 (12:20):
Look what are you doing?

Speaker 1 (12:21):
The Bears are one of the more fascinating teams in
the league. If you want to put the Jets on
Thursday night and take them out of the one o'clock window.

Speaker 3 (12:28):
I'm good with it.

Speaker 1 (12:29):
But you know, I'm getting a lot of cam Warden
Spencer Rattler on Sunday. I want more Josh Allen. I actually,
you know it's interesting. I think Drake may Now has
become a very good watch. I think Michael Pennix in
Atlanta's offense are a really good watch.

Speaker 3 (12:44):
Keep them on Sunday.

Speaker 6 (12:46):
Let me at you, Colin. Can I ask you something
real quick because I like this take by you?

Speaker 7 (12:49):
So what do you view as the marquee draw for
the NFL Sunday seven hours or Monday Island games, Sunday
Night Island game, Thursday Island game.

Speaker 1 (12:59):
I think if you asked the NFL, the four big
games are the CBS, Fox Sunday Late Sunday Night Football
singular Monday. Okay, but you as a hand, I let
me tell you something. I watched Red Zone early window.
I don't like red Zone late. I would rather watch

(13:19):
big screen one game. There's usually one great game late
window sometimes too. I don't need to watch the Arizona
Cardinal game or the Saints game in the late window.
The red zone, you know, the red Zone to me
is really I look forward to it. I've looked forward
to it since it came out. I just I really
don't like. I understand Amazon. They have a reservoir of money.

(13:43):
You're gonna get into the streaming business. That's their I
mean Fox had it for a year or two. With
a year Amazon comes in, they're gonna that's I get it.
But the dual Monday Night, I don't get the winner.
Because now you're asking me to choose. There's two games
on and I wanted to watch Josh Allen, and frankly
I wanted to watch Penix.

Speaker 3 (14:01):
He's a husky.

Speaker 1 (14:02):
I wanted to watch him play. Okay, now I'm watching
the Bear. Well, now I got a Dodger game on,
So now you're making Now you've got baseball playoff game
and the NFL wins all the time. But for me,
when the Dodgers were playing, I had the Dodgers on
the biggest screen because baseball.

Speaker 3 (14:18):
You have to watch closely.

Speaker 1 (14:19):
I can watch the smaller screen football games and follow it.
You need to hear a baseball game and kind of
you know how they're trying to solve their pitching moves.
So I I think I think the NFL has always
been able to just throw their games on and they
get a big audience. But when you have a if
you had a Yankee Dodger World Series, for me, Dodgers

(14:42):
Mariners or two games on Monday, I'm watching, I'm watching
the World Series.

Speaker 7 (14:47):
Well, I think ideally as a fan, they would love
Sunday six in the early window, six in the late window,
because you're right, sometimes the late window has three games
and it's like the Saints the Cardinals, bad teams. I
like to split, but they won't do that because obviously
they want big numbers and AD revenue, and I get it.
It's a business capitalism.

Speaker 1 (15:06):
But from the perspective, So this week, Baker, Mayfield and
the Lions are on Monday. Baker's an incredible watch. You
just took him out of Sunday well, and in Detroit
coming off that lost to Kansas City. That's gonna be
one of the top three games of the weekend. Yeah,
and then Texans at the Seahawks again.

Speaker 3 (15:25):
C J. Stroud, Sam Darnold. Those are top fifteen quarterbacks.

Speaker 6 (15:28):
Those are four of the top golf teams of the league.

Speaker 1 (15:30):
Baker, c J. Stroud, and Darnald out of the Sunday window.

Speaker 3 (15:35):
What are you doing? I I mean, I'm obviously Yeah.

Speaker 7 (15:41):
Well there was justin Fields against TUA and a Monday
and that's like unwatchable.

Speaker 6 (15:45):
So what's the answer?

Speaker 7 (15:47):
You know, Like it is tough, but I like Sundays man,
seven hours just laying around watching every game game.

Speaker 6 (15:53):
To me, that's the best. And I don't want to
see a bunch of backup quarterbacks that kind of kills it. Now.

Speaker 3 (15:58):
J Mack with the news, turn on the news.

Speaker 2 (16:02):
This is the herd Line News.

Speaker 7 (16:04):
All right, let's start with a little quarterback. I don't
know if it's a controversy, but this J. J. McCarthy
Carson Wentz thing is interesting. McCarthy is back at practice,
but says he's not one hundred percent yet. McCarthy has
not returned to the lineup officially. He's getting a bunch
of reps. It sounds like it's gonna be Carson Wentz

(16:25):
Colin in a revenge spot against the Eagles. I know
a lot of people like the Vikings here off of
by Vikings offensive lines, healthy, Vikings defense is healthy. Van
grinkles back. I'm sorry, but I said it yesterday. I
like the Eagles here. I think this is a get
right spot for them. If they don't get right, then
it's pressed.

Speaker 6 (16:44):
The paniclet.

Speaker 3 (16:45):
Yeah, I'm gonna stay away.

Speaker 1 (16:46):
I mean I think Minnesota would at two and a half.
I really like Minnesota getting two and a half at home.
At one and a half one.

Speaker 3 (16:53):
Not as much.

Speaker 1 (16:55):
I think it's a stay away game. I mean, we
know Minnesota's good at home. I think you give a
little extra time to Kevin O'Connell. It could be punitive
for that secondary Mitchell may not play.

Speaker 3 (17:06):
I think the game that is.

Speaker 1 (17:07):
I don't like betting ugly games, but I think Cleveland
in fifty mile hour wins against two in Miami. That
thing has seventeen nine written all over at Browns.

Speaker 6 (17:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (17:18):
One more note on the vikings in McCarthy. So obviously
when he came out of Michigan, he was kind of skinny.
He got hurt, missed the entire season.

Speaker 6 (17:26):
Colin.

Speaker 7 (17:26):
You know, he's played eight quarters in his NFL career
out of twenty I believe twenty three possible games. He's
barely played football. At what point are we like, dude
or is it just unlucky? I don't know, because I'll
be honest, I'm not inspired by Carson Wentz at all.
I think the Eagles eat him up here, and I
think he struggles.

Speaker 1 (17:45):
Yeah, I just I think this is a big part
of the Eli Manning far of Brady story. They were available,
Mahomes gets banged, he's available.

Speaker 3 (17:53):
I think it's a big part of being a pro athlete.

Speaker 7 (17:55):
All right, Let's move on to Mike Vrabel and the
New England Patriots. Fun little information tidbit here. It's not
just Rabel returning to Tennessee.

Speaker 3 (18:04):
Colin.

Speaker 7 (18:05):
Unbelievably, I had not seen this prior ten members of
his former staff in Tennessee left the Titans to go
join Mike Brabel in New England.

Speaker 6 (18:14):
That is incredible. Essentially, they were like, we don't trust
the GM to figure it out here. We like this
guy Rabel. Ten of his staffers left with him. Colin,
that is staggering.

Speaker 3 (18:25):
Now.

Speaker 7 (18:25):
I know coaches leave all the time, and we see
this movement. I just find it hard to believe that
ten guys would bail unless they really believed in Drabel.

Speaker 3 (18:36):
Well, yeah, I think.

Speaker 1 (18:38):
I mean, if you go to the last three coaching
hires that we knew would succeed Harbaugh, Chargers, Peyton, Broncos, Rabel, Patriots,
pretty easy. Dan Quinn was a good hire, but he
had gotten fired in Atlanta. We didn't quite know when
he lost Shanahan, he didn't quite feel the same.

Speaker 3 (18:58):
Yeah, I mean, Vrabel's just one of the small.

Speaker 1 (19:00):
Every time I talk to a Patriot player, they will
tell you as competitive and as smart as any player
including Brady that was ever there. Super smart, super competitive.
I talked to Mike several times, we texted back and
forth before he got the Patriot job.

Speaker 3 (19:17):
He was rushless.

Speaker 1 (19:19):
He wanted to coach, He really wanted to get back
into coaching. I think it's a great fit. To be
able to have Drake May and not have to fan
big money for four years is just such an advantage, Colin.

Speaker 7 (19:27):
Can I just say one quick thing when Brady and
Belichick left as a Jets fan, I'm doing the happy dance, baby.
I'm like, all right, you guys had your two decades.

Speaker 6 (19:36):
We got next. We don't have We do not have next.
They got Vrabel and they got Drake May.

Speaker 7 (19:43):
And the Jets have another coach who we don't know
if he's gonna last, and they have Justin Fields, who
we know is not gonna last.

Speaker 3 (19:48):
Now, Jets for a mile from competency.

Speaker 6 (19:51):
It's just unbelievable, Colin.

Speaker 7 (19:53):
Even the Dolphins fans are like, damn, we thought when
Brady was gone we had a shot, no chance. Now
it's Josh Allen and the Patriots once again. Just so
super sad as a Jets fan.

Speaker 6 (20:02):
Final story, Let's go to the NBA, Colin. I know
you're fired up about the preseason.

Speaker 7 (20:07):
How about this Cooper flag last night starting at point.

Speaker 6 (20:11):
Guard And I'm not gonna lie, he looked pretty good. Yes,
I'm checking out NBA preseason highlights. Cooper Flag come into
the offense.

Speaker 7 (20:19):
Running the show is like a six to nine Magic Johnson.

Speaker 1 (20:22):
Let me put this my bet. I think Dallas is easily.
I think Dallas would win the East. I don't think
they'll win the West. I think they're stacked. I think
it's the biggest I mean, if Cooper flat, you know
why Jason Kids considering putting him a point guard.

Speaker 3 (20:35):
It's a matchup nightmare.

Speaker 6 (20:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (20:37):
Look, look how big their front court is. They are huge,
and now you put Cooper flag at point. I think
Jason kidds looking at it thinking, let's force teams to
figure out how to match.

Speaker 6 (20:51):
Up with this. Yeah, a fun macro issue.

Speaker 7 (20:53):
Right now in the league, the Houston Rockets are experimenting
with a lineup where everybody is taller than six to six,
and now the Dallas Mavericks are doing the same.

Speaker 6 (21:01):
So we've ushered out.

Speaker 7 (21:02):
The small ball gunner era and we're not going big gunners.
Dallas and Houston could be the new prototype around the league.

Speaker 6 (21:10):
Keep an eye on San Antonio as well.

Speaker 7 (21:12):
They got big guards, a little changing.

Speaker 6 (21:15):
Of the guard, if you will.

Speaker 1 (21:16):
In the NBA, well, I mean last year Klay Thompson
was there. Last night, Klay Thompson was their smallest starter
in plays about six'. Five SO i never bought into
the small. BALL i think you AND i talked about.
This there's no such thing as small. Ball it Was
Steph curry And clay were the best shooting backcourt, ever
And draymond was a remarkably skilled six seven who played

(21:39):
at seven. Feet they had unique. Personnel small mall never
worked For. Houston it never worked for anybody. Else think about.
This THE nfl is a big man sport and THE
nba basketball is a tall man sport and a late.
Sport let's get really. Small it didn't work with. Anybody
it worked because Of Steph clay And, draymond and even

(22:01):
by the, way they were at their best when they
added the length the length Of Kevin. Durant SO i
never bought into small. Ball houston And Daryl morey tried.
It it didn't work BECAUSE i think sometimes you just
have you, know when The patriots ushered in like we're
gonna bring in two tight, ends the Late Aaron hernandez And,

(22:21):
gronk and people were, like, oh tight ends are. Undervalue,
No gronk's the top four tight end ever And Aaron
hernandez And gronk would tell you, this he might as
a little bit in AN nba. Player you could put
him in the, backfield you could put him at tight,
end you could put him at. SLOT i remember talking
To Patrick jung once for The. PATRIOTS i, said who's
the best guy you've ever? Covered he Goes Aaron. Hernandez

(22:43):
he's like he can run like a, receiver he cats
like a back or a. Receiver he can block like
a tight. End so size in my, lifetime has always
been a huge factor in THE. NBA i Think dallas
is so.

Speaker 7 (22:58):
Undervalue well Remember dallas Lost Kyrie, irving you missed most
of the season small point.

Speaker 6 (23:03):
Guard And houston Lost fred.

Speaker 7 (23:04):
Van, vliet who's out for the season small point. Guard their,
answer let's just go Be it's just a fascinating.

Speaker 6 (23:10):
Experiment we'll see what.

Speaker 1 (23:11):
Happens J mack with the, News well that's the, news
and thanks for stopping by the Herd Line. News i'm
trying to think of another comp, where you. KNOW i,
mean it's like when The yankees Had Mariano. RIVERA i,
mean everybody wanted a good, closer But mariano's really.

Speaker 3 (23:30):
Valuable if you have a.

Speaker 1 (23:31):
Lead if you had to Put mariano on bad, teams you,
know he would have still Been Mariano. Rivera but he
was so valuable and so great on The yankees because
let's be, honest they were in big playoff, games they
had one run, leads And mariano was the greatest closer
of all time. Closers you, know we've said this with
there are certain players like pass rushers are really really,

(23:56):
effective Like Max crosby is, Great but how often to
The raiders lead late in the, Game like The raiders
play teams late that are running the ball to kill
the clock because The raiders trail. LATE i remember talking
To Bill pollym one. Time he talked about he. Goes
we knew when we Drafted Peyton manning we were gonna
lead ninety percent of our games in the fourth.

Speaker 3 (24:16):
Quarter we had to get Like Dwight.

Speaker 1 (24:19):
Freeney we needed pass rushers because we knew we would
lead late in. Games sometimes you, get Like Max crosby's
this unbelievable pass. Rusher can you imagine putting him Like.
Michaeh parsons To Green Bay dallas this, year last couple of,
years is not necessarily leading games with six minutes to.
Go micah With Green bay is going to be in

(24:41):
these games the next three. Months packers lead late and
they need a. Sack Derrick henry's not nearly as valuable
when you're losing, late you know WHAT i mean It
it's just the reality of the position In.

Speaker 3 (24:57):
Chicago wrap it up next To.

Speaker 2 (24:58):
Herd be sure to catch live editions Of The herd
weekdays And Noone eastern non Am pacific On Fox Sports

Speaker 1 (25:19):
Prizes i'll tell you what we've talked About Russell westbrook
not very. FREQUENTLY i thought he did a great job
With denver off the. Bench But Russell westbrook is going
to make The hall Of. Fame he's got three hundred
million plus, networth could be. More he's playing, now seven
team and seven. Years Sacramento kings a. Mess they're just a.

(25:40):
Mess could be the worst team in the league right.
NOW a couple of years ago they had the light the.
Beam now they're you, know couldn't light a, campfire so nobody.
Cares But Russell westbrook is on a seven team in seven.
Years his contract is like league minimum veteran, minimum like three,
million so he plays In. California who'll get half of?
That so one point five million for a guy with
three hundred. Networth the story About Russell westbrook And sacramento

(26:03):
is that guy loves. Ball that is a guy that loves.
Basketball he could close it. Down it'd be one thing
if he was on a like The celtics or The
pacers are like a real viable, team or The knicks
Or denver okc OH i get.

Speaker 3 (26:16):
Played you got me losing every. Night you're In.

Speaker 1 (26:18):
Sacramento it's kind of a nothing to do. TOWN i,
mean it's considered like the you, know not one of
the more dynamic places to. Live not much of a night.
Life he, didn't you, Know i'm sure didn't have a
network of friends. There bad team doesn't need the. Money
legacy is. Set he's playing because he loves. Basketball you

(26:39):
gotta respect guys that do. This, oh LIKE i see
some of these. GUYS i mean, WHY i mean That
sacramento is bottom of the, league no chance to win forty,
games go five.

Speaker 3 (26:50):
Hundred why is he? Playing he loves, Basketball.

Speaker 7 (26:53):
Colin it reminds me Of Allen iverson And Carmelo anthony
at the, end two Other hall Of, famers legendary. Players
they just never adapted to what was going on around.

Speaker 6 (27:01):
Them Russell westbrook never developed a three point.

Speaker 7 (27:04):
Shot that's why he's on his seventh team in seven.

Speaker 1 (27:07):
Years and he's a ORDINARY i would say, THIS i
will Defend Russell westbrook In, denver Whereas Carmelo anthony rolled
his eyes at everybody that suggested he was a bench. Player, yes,
Fair Russell westbrook totally embraced, it may not have loved,
it came off the bench and was unbelievably. Productive and

(27:28):
he's also when he's coming off the, bench he's going
up against backups a lot of the, time you, KNOW
i mean he's athletically. Insane so, AGAIN i always, Said
Russell westbrook has kind of one. Gear, yeah and as he's,
aged he's got more self awareness and his gear is
in his pedal to the, medal like he can play

(27:50):
with a little more. Tempo BUT i thought he was
great In. DENVER i thought his energy off the bench was.
Palpable he could get your. Reap he's always been a
good rebounding. Guard BUT I I carmelo was, Like i'm
not coming off the.

Speaker 3 (28:03):
Bench westbrook's, like, Okay i'll come off the.

Speaker 1 (28:05):
Bench selenia dominate the backups and HE i thought he
was great for The.

Speaker 6 (28:09):
Nuggets so he was great for a great. Team denver
was an elite team With. Jokic now you're going to
the dregs of the.

Speaker 7 (28:16):
League do you Think russ is going to be okay
coming off the.

Speaker 6 (28:18):
Bench for one of the worst teams in the.

Speaker 3 (28:20):
League i'm not sure he. Will i'm not.

Speaker 1 (28:22):
Sure, no HE'S i can guarantee you. This he's one
of their two best.

Speaker 3 (28:26):
Athletes oh, man.

Speaker 6 (28:28):
This is that's gonna be. Dicey BUT i do thank
you for bringing up the. SECONDMENT O. Kings that's you,
know the only time we'll talk about them all.

Speaker 3 (28:33):
Season, well well that's.

Speaker 1 (28:36):
All that's and that's all they. Deserve can you guys
throw up THE nfl schedule this? WEEKEND i got my
blazing five. PICKS i sent him In, tuesday So i'm
way ahead of schedule. TONIGHT i Like, pittsburgh BUT i
think IT i Think Joe flacco at home keeps it.
Close you, KNOW i think it's very much twenty three
seventeen Ish. PITTSBURGH i, like you know what Without Poka.

(28:58):
Nakula keep your eye in an upset but potential For
jaguars and The rams dangerous. Overseas keep your eye on.
THAT i did not like The jags at all last.
WEEK i like him in this. SPOT i didn't like
him after The chiefs win last. Week they played. POORLY
i like The jags again this. Weekend i'm going to
stay away From vikings And. EAGLES i do think The

(29:19):
bears beat The. Saints it might be, close, Though. Colin
just be careful that numbers coming.

Speaker 3 (29:24):
Down let me throw this at.

Speaker 1 (29:28):
You you, know it could end up being the best
game of the.

Speaker 3 (29:31):
Weekend Jets panthers Atta atlanta At San.

Speaker 7 (29:37):
Francisco there's just too many questions For San.

Speaker 6 (29:40):
FRANCISCO i don't know who's.

Speaker 7 (29:42):
Playing, hey let me quickly go back real quick To tomlin.
Tonight our staff just came up with some staggering. Numbers
Mike tomlin On Thursday Night football on The. Road two
and eight in his last ten versus The, division two
and seven in his last. Ten for whatever, Reason mike
tom someone's struggling in recent years.

Speaker 6 (30:02):
To get his team up For thursday night.

Speaker 7 (30:03):
Football this is a real flat spot, tonight AND i
have a feeling.

Speaker 6 (30:07):
Tomorrow you're gonna be leading with.

Speaker 3 (30:08):
It what may maybe?

Speaker 6 (30:09):
Here rogers isn't the answer In.

Speaker 1 (30:11):
Pittsburgh, no you, know that's what's fascinating about those. Numbers
why Would tomlin be bad On? Thursday how about? This
he's very much a player's. Coach he doesn't Love thursday Night.
Football he kind of resents it because he's a player's,
coach and he thinks it's unfair to the, players and
it's a money grab by THE. Nfl and he doesn't

(30:33):
give you his best motivational, tactics and.

Speaker 6 (30:36):
His players feed off of his lack of.

Speaker 1 (30:37):
Energy, yeah And i'm just Saying mike may look at
it as a survival.

Speaker 3 (30:42):
Week it's not an inspired.

Speaker 1 (30:44):
Week he doesn't get to use his strengths as a,
coach which are, motivational. ASPIRATIONAL i, Mean mike is a
guy that likes to get into the weeds and get
into have real relationships with. Players it's very. Hard you
only get a couple of days of. Practice it's mostly
walked through. Stuff, yeah it's it's a hard week For
Mike tomlin to lean into his straints as a. Coach

(31:07):
so on, THIRD i, mean nothing else makes. Sense it's,
like why Would Sean payton be so average In. September
there's a, reason because he puts so much on the
quarterback's plate because he wants to be ready By. December
belichick not good In, September tomlin not good On. Thursday
these are not. Coincidental there's a. Reason SO i do
think it's really, close But i'll Take aaron Over flacco

(31:30):
late
