Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the Best of the Week for What's Right
with Nick Right the best takes in moments from this
week on the show. Enjoy.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Oh yeah, So, who would have saw Atlanta upsetting Buffalo.
I guess you kind of did, and you were right, well.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
I mean not entirely to be fair, you saw it
about it, I would have. I didn't even include Atlanta
plus the points is one of my picks, but I did.
I did think they were live. And I also thought
Atlanta was the hardest team in the league to kind
of get a beat on because Week one, they play,
you know, a tight game comes down to a field
(00:36):
miss field goal against the Bucks. They they get annihilated
by Carolina, but Carolina's oddly been a good team at home.
They beat Washington, but Washington doesn't have Jaden Daniels. And
then there's one other game they played. I forgot what
it was, and then they had a buy And so
I just thought Atlanta was a little bit of a
(00:58):
I don't want to say unknown. Oh they beat the
Vikings twenty two to six in a weird game when
wins started like no when JJ McCarthy was in and
then JJ McCarthy's been hurt since then. But go ahead. Sorry?
Speaker 2 (01:11):
Oh yeah, so Beijeon and Drake london encounted for three
ninety six of four hundred and forty three yards on offense.
Buffalo has dropped their second straight and Josh Allen's and
VP odds are up to plus three hundred.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
He's number two bar On Mahomes.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
Is it time for the Josh Allen as the best
player in the NFL chance to come to a simmer?
Speaker 3 (01:32):
All right?
Speaker 1 (01:32):
So again, hold on, let me find the exact quote.
Let me see you. I should have looked this up beforehand. Okay,
so this is you. Guys know that I actually have
been pretty pro Bills the last couple of years. Last year,
(01:56):
I when everybody thought they might be in a rebuild.
I thought they'd make the AFC Championship Game. I thought
they'd be really good. They were. This year, I once
again picked them to go to the AFC Championship Game.
And I've been pretty consistent that I think Josh is
the second best quarterback in football. I with that said
(02:23):
that Josh allen hyperbole on some of these things has
always mystified me, and the example of it this year
is three weeks ago after a Monday night football game
against the Dolphins when Josh was good. Don't get me wrong,
(02:46):
but it was against the Dolphins in that game, if
you remember, was really close late and it was coming
on the heels of a Jets game where they annihilated
the Jets. But he was a James Cook game. Josh
had thrown for one hundred and forty yards and no touchdowns.
(03:06):
Greeney on Get Up says, quote, I'm watching that game
last night, and no one has ever played that position
better than Josh Allen. Again, the quote is, no one
has ever played that position better than Josh Allen, And
(03:31):
it just seems like we we are so eager to
anoint the next guy when we're in the midst of
the guy that we sometimes, you know, get a little
ahead of ourselves. With that said, listen, Josh's had a
(03:52):
rough couple weeks. I still think he's the second best
quarterback in football. I also think that it was likely
unsustainable the streak he was on on not turning the
ball over, And now all of a sudden you've seen
(04:13):
he's turned the ball over four times in the last
three games, and the Bills, in my opinion, have real,
real question marks they have four wins. They beat Baltimore,
which at the time we thought was an awesome win.
The defense allowed forty and they needed that late comeback
(04:39):
to beat them. Baltimore has won one game since then.
They beat the Jets in one of the weirdest games
of the year because they outscored them thirty to ten
despite Josh, and they outgained him four Not weird, but
they just ran all over them. They outgained them four
(05:00):
hundred to one fifty four and the Jets had no shot.
The Jets, by the way of won zero games all year.
They beat the Dolphins in a game Josh played great,
but in a game that also was tied with They
were tied with the Dolphins with seven and a half
minutes left. The Dolphins have won one game all year.
(05:21):
They beat the Saints in a game that the Saints
thought they took the lead in the fourth quarter, only
to have a touchdown overturned. They had to settle for
a field goal, and that game was a two point
game in Buffalo with seven and a half minutes left.
The Saints have put won one game all year. They
then lost to the Patriots and got thoroughly handled last night.
(05:46):
By Atlanta and were, in my opinion, lucky to have
a shot to steal that game, because Atlanta, after doing
anything it wanted for the first three quarter, first quarter
and a half, the offense kind of went comatose on them.
And the Bills are now in a spot where they
(06:10):
have squandered already demands what was supposed to be their
biggest edge for this season, which is an incredibly soft
schedule that would lead them to their first one seed
since Jim Kelly was the quarterback. And now they wake
(06:31):
up this morning and they're not even leading their division,
and they still have games left against the Chiefs, against
the Bucks, at the Patriots, against the Eagles, at the Steelers,
at the Texans, and you just wonder, is this going
(06:57):
to be another year where Buffalo. I still think they're
gonna win the division? By the way, Like I don't
get me wrong, I wouldn't.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
You wouldn't put a taste on New England winning the
division at plus one eighty five.
Speaker 1 (07:15):
It's only plus one eighty five?
Speaker 3 (07:18):
Is that why Vegas thinks so too?
Speaker 1 (07:21):
No? I mean no, that's I might put something on
Buffalo at minus two thirty. I like, I know, I
still think Buffalo. I would have thought Buffalo's minus three
hundred to win the division. New England no, but but no,
I mean, I mean New England. I picked New England
make the playoffs. I just think Buffalo is still going
(07:42):
to win eleven games at least. And I don't see
New England, you know, and so, but regardless, my point
is this, it sure looks like it's gonna be a
season like we've seen a lot with the Bills where
they win the division, but they don't get the bye.
(08:03):
They beat the hell out of the team in the
wildcard round and then they play someone in their weight
class in the divisional round or the conference championship game
and get beaten. And that was It's really crazy how
bad that defense has looked this year. The again, the
(08:29):
Panthers only scored I'm sorry, the Falcons only scored twenty
four points. They move the ball, it will Drake Mayett
is coming out party against them. They they seem to
even though I don't know that the stats back it up.
They just seem to be a defense that can get got.
And Josh Josh is a great, great player, but the conservative,
(08:59):
low risks style that he's been playing the last year
and a half really doesn't fit if you don't have
a defense that you can rely on to get stops.
And I don't think they have that defense this year.
And so I I right now, if I had to
pick it, Demonse, I would still say Chiefs Bills AFC
(09:23):
Championship game. But now we're staring at a very real
possibility that game is going to be an arrowhead. When
the cheap the Bills were four and oh with the
Chiefs at one and two about to face the Ravens,
(09:44):
life comes at you fast man. And the Bills also
need a good win. They just need a good win.
What are you laughing about?
Speaker 2 (09:51):
You got to get on top of your division first.
Speaker 1 (09:56):
Same with Buffalo. Buffalo like mom and I am. Well,
we'll get to the Chargers and the Broncos in a minute.
Let's talk Falcons just for a second.
Speaker 2 (10:10):
Yeah, So it's if it feels like Michael Pincks has
kind of gotten lost in the shuffle as far as
quarterbacks in his drive class.
Speaker 3 (10:17):
Uh what do you make of Michael Pinnicks as now?
Speaker 1 (10:20):
Yeah, I mean I guess he's gonna still be a
little lost in the shuffle with me, because I like,
there are certain things you really like. There's also like
last night, when that game was wrapped, essentially all Atlanta
need do was run the ball three times kick a
field goal. With two minutes left, they called a pass
(10:41):
play that Pinnix made a horrific decision and it was
this close being a pick six tie game when the
game was basically over. So some of that concerns me.
But Drake London is really good and Bijon is just sensational. Yeah,
(11:04):
I mean, listen, I picked him to win Offensive Player
of the Year as a rookie. Here's what Bjon's done
since he came into the league. His rookie year, he
had nine hundred and eighty rushing yards four hundred and
eighty receiving yards, so he had fourteen hundred and sixty
yards with eight touchdowns. Really good, not not super elite,
(11:27):
but really good. Last year he had fourteen hundred and
fifty rushing yards, another four hundred and thirty receiving yards
and fifteen touchdowns elite. This year he has four hundred
and eighty rushing yards and already three hundred and thirty
receiving yards, only three touchdowns, but is on pace to
(11:52):
shatter I think the yards from scrimmage record for a season.
He's got eight hundred yards from scrimmage through five games.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
Like where I'm gonna catch though? My god, that I
had to score the most rushing touchdowns.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
Oh that's a bad beat. I mean, it's not a
bad beat, but it's so crazy. Get all the yard
year right exactly? Yeah. So, like, just for context on
what he's doing as a receiver, he has three hundred
and thirty eight receiving yards. Again, they've already had their
buy so he's played five games. Jamar Chase, who is
(12:33):
fifth Chase in a Buka?
Speaker 3 (12:36):
Yeah, a Buka.
Speaker 1 (12:39):
Have four hundred and sixty eight and four hundred and
sixty nine receiving yards in an extra game, So he's averaging.
I mean, that's crazy. He is on a yards per
game basis right now? He is where is Oh I
(13:00):
can't sort by that, but I mean he's sixty eight
receiving yards a game. He's top twenty in the NFL.
He's so good. He's so good. By the way, the
Falcons my NFC playoff picks demons going into the year,
and not in order, but just the seven Eagles, Commanders, Lions, Packers,
(13:26):
bills aren't bills. Hold on, wait, I'm gonna have something wrong.
Oh no, that's right. You know what. I take it back.
It was Eagles, Commanders, Lions, Bears, Packers, Bucks, Rams. I
had the Falcons in and then the Pennis trade happened,
and I took them out and put the Packers in.
(13:48):
So that's what it was. The did I say the
Penis trade the parsonstraight happened? Pardon me? When the Parsons
straight happened? I put the Packers in because I had
him out. That's what it was. I was like, wait,
did I have eight playoff teams? But no, I I
think Atlanta's. I think Atlanta's at least semi legit. And

out and bron is outside the top ten and on
(16:23):
he's eleven, and on its face, I don't actually that
is within the range of what is you know, in
my opinion, an acceptable ranking, But it is what kills me?
Is who is number ten? So let me make sure
I have this right. And this is a little frustrating
(16:48):
to me, and I think it's fair. So eleven is Bron,
Number ten is Durant.
Speaker 2 (16:54):
I knew it, didn't I didn't even see the list.
I swaw, I didn't even see the list. That's crazy.
Speaker 1 (17:00):
There's just no argument that he's better. And there's no
argument that he's more available. There's no argument that he's
more durable or reliable. So and by the way, Steph
was seven. I I don't think I think Bron is
still better than Steph. That at least, though intelligent people
(17:24):
can disagree like all that that that is a debatable point.
I don't get why, like people like, well, Bron's forty,
Durant's old too, and Durant misses way more time and
and so I just that that that just on its
(17:45):
And this is not a shot at Kevin Durant. He
is if he, Steph and Bron are all rewriting what
is really stick for old guys in this league to do?
But it is I don't get why Durant and I
(18:10):
think this is a good that because you can do
and this is a great interactive. They do a really
good job with these the visual pieces of these articles.
But Durant ended last season fourteenth. I don't know why
he jumped at what happened where he jumps to ten.
I just don't, I don't, I don't get it. And again,
(18:33):
I think Durant is unbelievable. The Rockets might be my
pick to win the championship this year. This is I
am not trying to beef with Durant. I just were
yet to have the moment, certainly yet to have the
moment post Golden State where there is a credible evidence
(18:58):
or even eye to based argument that Durant's better. So
that's a little frustrating. The other thing they put in
there was a quote from Bill where he said, if
the Nuggets win the title and he wins MVP, again,
I assume again I haven't listened to this. I've been
(19:19):
so in football mode. I don't think he means finals MVP.
He means regular season MVP. He's indisputably one of the
ten best players ever, and so I don't think that
he being Jokic is what. I don't know if I
said that on the front end, I don't think that
(19:41):
is necessarily even an incorrect take. It just though does
bear mentioning, because, as you guys know, I am the
self appointed czar of top tens having to have ten
people in them. If you are arguing that if they
(20:07):
win this title, they being Denver Joker is top ten,
then you are arguing three of the following people are not. Okay,
bron Kareem, Michael, Magic, Russell, Wilt, Duncan, Kobe, Bird, Dream, Shaq, Steph.
(20:36):
That is I think a pretty universally agreed upon top twelve,
with respect to Jerry and Oscar and hell, if we
want to go super old school Mike in and with
respect to doctor j and Moses and whomever, that's the
top twelve. So if Joker wins, I think most people
(20:58):
are gonna say Dream is out if he's if he's
in or not, so there, that's the easiest one to
take out. I think Bill might say Wilt is out.
I wouldn't, but I think Bill maybe would. And then
(21:21):
then it gets a little tricky, which is who is
if we're just saying Dream and Wilt are the easy outs,
which and again I think Wilt's the sixth gradatest player ever.
But you're taking out Kobe, Bird, Shack, Steph. I don't know,
(21:43):
so four MVPs, which is what it would be for Joker,
and two rings would And by the way, I didn't
excuse me when I said, that's not including it, it's
not including Durant. I didn't even think about that. But
(22:04):
Durant's not in the top ten.
Speaker 2 (22:06):
It is.
Speaker 1 (22:08):
Top tens are gonna get really prickly for people if
let's say this hypothetical happens and Joker all of a
sudden has multiple rings and four MVPs and has kind
of elbowed his way in there, because it's not gonna
be as simple as okay, we're just dropping dream who.
(22:28):
By the way, I don't have as twelfth, I have
his tenth. I the list I gave you guys was
the order of my one through twelve. But is Joker
better than Shack? I's it. That's a tough sell. Maybe
(22:49):
like it's it is. Do we think he's already better
than Steph? I don't with one more ring? Maybe it's
the there you're going what's going to become popular? Demons
in ten years are all time top tens that do
(23:14):
not include Kobe or Bird, and that is hard for
me to wrap my mind around. But I've got Kobe eight,
Bird nine, and that's with them ahead of Steph Shack Joker.
(23:35):
I know some people disagree with it, so it's just that's.
Speaker 3 (23:39):
That's the most complete NBA players ever seen. Like, I
think he has everything.
Speaker 2 (23:43):
I do think he's probably gonna sneaking that top ten
by the end of everything.
Speaker 1 (23:49):
Well, he is, unequivocally, I don't know if I should
say it's one of the greatest. He's one of the greatest,
probably five or six offensive players ever. I struggle a
bit with the defensive Yeah, well, yea, he gets the
no again. And I don't think he's like some massive
(24:10):
liability defensively. It's not the but.
Speaker 3 (24:13):
There's some holes on that side now.
Speaker 1 (24:16):
So so Duncan might be the greatest defensive player well
dream post Russell. Duncan's one of the two greatest defensive
players post Russell. And to me, Duncan's offense is better
than Joker's defense obviously, and but offense is worth more
(24:40):
than defense. It's tricky. It's tricky. I'm not again, I'm
not here to say that's an outrageous take like Joker
has earned it. It is also the other thing, just
real quick that Bill Bill, when he was talking about
Giannis mentioned the fact that Yannis has only won eight
playoff series, which was crazy, like to think about like that.
(25:05):
He did a Buil did a really good thing where
he's talking about the you know, all time playoff series
one and bron has forty one, Duncan has like thirty five,
Kobe I think thirty two. Again, this is Bill's thing,
not mine, but from listening to it, Jordan had I
think like thirty one and he mentioned now Giannis has
(25:28):
eight and I was like, wow, like he won four
of the year they won the titles exactly. Joker has ten.
So when we are again this this assumes he actually
gets to fourteen because he wins four more. I have
a little allergy too, saying a guy who's been passed
(25:57):
round two twice ever and now it would be three
times if they win the title. Is you know we're
gonna bump him ahead of Kobe Bryant, who went to
seven NBA finals. Like so that that part of it
(26:17):
just is just reflexively it feels at I mean Duncan
went to six finals. I don't even know the conference
finals off the top of my head that that part feels.
Speaker 3 (26:34):
Littre wrong.
Speaker 1 (26:36):
Yeah, but it maybe it's not, and so I the
I I do think though for Joker, he has reached
the ceiling he can get to as far as where
he's ranked apps in another title right like wherever he
(26:59):
is right now, he winning. He has maxed out how
high you can climb based on individual accolades, like he
is as high as a one ring player can be.
And people can say that's reductive or that's silly, that
it's not. It's totally fair. In the it's just totally fair.
(27:25):
And the guys are telling me Bill said he'd be
there with Bird and Magic. I think Bill has Magic
rated lower than I do. I think Bill has, Like
to me, Magic is in a slight tier above Bird,
and I think that Bill has Bird and Magic in
the same tier. But that okay. By the way, if

(28:32):
just for a moment to talk League MVP. This segment
is presented by our great friends at hard Rock. Bet
all right, go ahead, pal, So Baker.
Speaker 3 (28:41):
Has climbed to number two in MVP odds.
Speaker 2 (28:43):
Ahead of him is Mahomes. Those are both of your
guys that are in the MVP race. We're sponsored by
hard Rock, so they've created this marker for you. They've
got Baker Mahomes or Baker with MVP at minus one
fifty or you could bet the field at plus one
oh five.
Speaker 1 (29:00):
So here's so shout out to hard Rock on this
not just making this and this market is currently available
in Florida, by the way, for making this an either
or side meaning I don't love when it's just when
it's one way markets, because then you can't tell what
(29:25):
the fair price is. Does that make like if it's
just a yes bet or just a no bet, you can't.
You can't get a feel for what the fair price
is when it's a two way market. Minus one fifty
and plus one oh five. There's obviously some juice in
there because they're not the same number, but those aren't.
(29:45):
It's not minus one fifty and for either or and
then minus one fifty for no. And I've got to
tell you, I think Baker or Patrick to be able
to get either one of them to win MVP at
(30:06):
only minus one point fifty is a pretty solid bet. Now,
full disclosure, I won't be making it because I already
have this bet covered. I have Baker in the preseason
at thirty five to one on hard Rock, and I
have every year. It's like an annuity. Every year I
(30:26):
bet Patrick to win MVP, and then every three years
or so it pays, so so I already have them.
I have these bets covered. But if you guys remember
our preseason gambling show, I said I thought Tampa was
going to be the one seed. And if Tampa's the
one seed. Baker's got a real shot at MVP. I
didn't expect it to be this type of you know,
insanely hot start. The reason I like the Baker or
(30:50):
Patrick piece of it demons is so many of the
preseason favorites are just out. So obviously Joe Burrow out. Literally,
I think Lamar's out like the You agree, Okay, I
mean I think missing missing two games doesn't knock you out,
(31:16):
but I just think being one in five, like, look,
they would have to go they would have to go
ten and one the rest of the way for Lamart, right, Okay,
So then you look at the other teams that could
have great records, right, Daniel Jones is not gonna win
League MVP, especially because a lot of people think Jonathan
(31:39):
Taylor's been the best player on that team. Dan Jones
been excellent. But it's just to me, Daniel Jones is
not gonna be League MVP. But they right now are
the one seed, right Rogers team only has one loss,
he doesn't have the numbers, and I don't think it's
going to so he's not gonna win League MVP. I
(32:02):
you go to you know, Herbert was a trendy pick.
They fell off some. Josh Allen is still obviously a
viable candidate, but he's had some hiccups the last few weeks. Right,
you go to the NFC, Jaden's team isn't that good
(32:25):
record wise, So he is, and his number has been fine,
but he's also miss time, he's gotten uphill battle goff.
I just I don't see it. Maybe I'm like and
also the team's records fine, but you might be like Nick,
the Chiefs are three and three. No, I understand that,
(32:45):
but I also feel like Patrick somehow like has a
narrative momentum going for him with getting Rashiba back. So
right now, to me, Patrick and Baker, their real competition
would and I don't think Jordan Loves had some crazy year.
(33:06):
The real competition demons is Josh and Stafford.
Speaker 3 (33:11):
And if they start winning games.
Speaker 1 (33:14):
No, no chance, no nuts, no no, no. I mean, Dak's
not gonna have a better year than Burrow did last year,
and the Cowboys aren't gonna do better than nine wins
like Burrow didn't. Burrow didn't have a real shot at it.
Stafford is viable, right, but Puoka being banged up hurts
(33:36):
his chances. Yeah, so I do think Bake you're getting basically,
you get Baker or Patrick at minus one fifty. I
think that's legit. And if you think Baker's gonna fall
off and the Chiefs aren't gonna have a good enough record,
you can just take the other side of it at
plus money. So that's I think that's a sick bet
by our friends at hard Rock
