You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
A Go hour two. It's a Thursday Bills taking on
the Texans without c Jays shroud tonight. I'll go buffo
ho kay. That story on Jalen Hurts is very interesting
by Derek Gunner, reporter that you know, there's a little
and I was told the same thing this summer, not
(00:46):
the most popular guy in the locker room. You don't
have to be the most popular guy. Baker Mayfield has
always been popular. But remember Baker Mayfield in Cleveland, Oh
Vjy's dad taking shot to them. If the quarterback sometimes
creates some envy and jealousy financially and they get all
the you know, they get all the love. So you know,
I don't think it's a Russell Wilson Seattle thing. But
(01:06):
I was told this summer he wasn't the most popular guy.
He has his own beat, goes to his own sort
of sensibility. He's done a raw, raw hangout with all
the guys after the game. Person that's just not who
he is here is Jalen Hurts, responding to the story
and the thoughts by a reporter Derek Gunn on he
is kind of been difficult for the staff because he
(01:29):
kind of does his own thing during games.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
I'm not surprised by anything. I mean, you know, this
is kind of the nature of the position, like I said,
But you know, I put my energy and I put
my focus on try and go out there and do
my best and trying to learn, trying to build, trying
to take any things that I can to improve. I
guess I get a lot of attention when things are
going well and when things are not going so well,
and so I never run away from holding myself accountable.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
The criticism what Derek Gunn had said is, you know,
they practice stuff all week and then he kind of
does his own thing. And let's bring on Greg Cosel
forty six years NFL Films joining us now live. You know,
let's just start with this one because it's a story
out of Philadelphia that even kind of does his own thing,
which I remember for years and years you telling me,
(02:20):
and I wouldn't listen. You're like, you know, Russell Wilson,
it's like their pre produced ad libs, like he's I
don't know if it's. Is there a feel that Jalen
sometimes isn't running the offense that's designed for him.
Speaker 4 (02:36):
You know, that's a hard question to answer, Kahn.
Speaker 5 (02:39):
I will say this though, when you watch their tape,
and you know me, I solely go by the tape.
I'm not going to get involved in the Derek Gun
story or anything like that. But I will say this,
when you watch their offense and their past game in particular,
the one thing you definitely see is that it's rather
elementary and remedial in their concert, and that's just what
(03:01):
the tape shows. They don't do a lot. You know,
we talk about other quarterbacks and other coaches. You watch
a Ben Johnson offense, you watch the concepts that they run,
and other coaches, Sean McVay, Kyle Shanahan, you don't really
see that right now in Philadelphia. Now, you know me
well enough to know I don't rip coaches. This is
not a knock on Jalen Hurts I don't know what
(03:22):
goes on in their meetings. I don't know what goes
on in their locker room, but I can tell you
that the tape shows that their offensive pass concepts are
just they're rather basic and simplistic for the NFL.
Speaker 1 (03:35):
Yeah, all right, you mentioned San Francisco. Brock Purty comes back.
He and Kittle have always had a thing where they
just when you watch the Niners offense with Mac and
then with brock Purty, what it give me one thing
where brock Purty is absolutely inarguably superior to Mac Jones
and allows Kyle Shanahan to do that maybe he doesn't
(03:55):
do with Mac Jones.
Speaker 5 (03:58):
I think one thing that always stands out to me
with Purdy is that he has a much more aggressive
mindset throwing the football. So he'll push the ball down
the field. Now, I'm sure some forty nine Ers fans
will say, gee, he'll throw some bad pigs. And it's
not as if he's an interception machine by any stretch,
but he is far more aggressive throwing the football, and
(04:19):
I think he sees the game a little more aggressively
like that. I think the Kidtle touchdown last week, not
the one we just saw, but the first one, the
thirty yarder, is a good.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
Example of that.
Speaker 5 (04:31):
This is it because he checked to that at the
line of scrimmage, he changed the formation, he knew what
he had and he threw a slot fade. Now I'm
not saying mac Jones isn't capable of that, but I
just think that Purdy, mindset wise, is far more aggressive
in his mentality of how he sees the game and.
Speaker 4 (04:49):
The throws that he will make.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
I made an argument this week when Sam Darnold came out,
I said he's a bit of a poor man's Andrew Luck.
He's reckless, big, strong, physical. And Andrew Luck had nine
games in his career with three or more picks. Sam
Donald has nine games in his career with three or
more picks. The worst game Look had was a four
(05:12):
pick game against Belichick. What was Donald's worst game, Well,
at Shula of the Rams in a couple Belichick games,
so they're similar. I think it's better. I think Luck's better,
But when I watch Sam, I'm like, listen, part of
what makes Sam interesting is that he really is aggressive
and he is not deterred after a pick. He doesn't care.
(05:34):
Andrew Luck did not Andrew Luck didn't care. So what
did you make of the performance against the Rams?
Speaker 4 (05:40):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (05:41):
Your thoughts?
Speaker 5 (05:43):
Yeah, I mean, obviously the four interceptions, so you have
to look at each one individually and you have to
evaluate that as individual plays.
Speaker 4 (05:52):
And there were two that were really, really bad. I
tried it.
Speaker 5 (05:56):
When I watch an interception, particularly one that's bad common
what I try to do is get in the head
of the quarterback and try to say, Okay, what is
he seeing, how is he seeing this? Why did he
make that throw? Because when you see it, you go,
oh my god, how did he throw that ball? But
obviously he didn't throw the ball intentionally to hit the
defensive back between the numbers. So I try to get
(06:17):
into the head of the quarterback based on the route concept,
the coverage, and I can understand I think why he
made some throws. There was one that was really bad
where I think it was the last one where he
sort of panicked and I think he had a throw
that he could have had. It's this one right here
that we're looking at now, But the others I could
(06:39):
give you reasons why I think he made the throws.
Obviously the result wasn't the same, But you made a
great point. And in fact, I said to one of
my guys when I was watching this tape, I said, boy,
when he after an interception, he's not shy. He just
comes back and he's going to throw the football. And
I think that's a positive trade in the quarterback.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
All right, So Drake may I think New England thought
he was going to be good. I'm not sure if
they thought he was going to lead the league in
accuracy by the beginning of year two. Does Drake may
have a weakness to this point, anything that a top
defensive coach could could trick him or sucker him.
Speaker 5 (07:13):
Into, well, that's you know, I don't want to say
he doesn't have a weakness. I'll tell you why, because
you know he's gonna have a bad game. I mean,
every quarterback is going to have a bad game or
a game that's that's less than good, and then we're
going to say, oh, look what they did to him.
So I'm not going to sit here and say, God,
this guy's, you know, on his way to the Hall
of Fame right now. But I think when you watch
his tape, you see a very calm, composed, calculated player.
Speaker 4 (07:37):
Who knows where to go with the football.
Speaker 5 (07:40):
He doesn't really make the kinds of throws where you say, God,
what's he doing? Why is he making that throw? I
think the thing that's really stood out to me has
been his ball location, Colin. His ball location has been really,
really precise, and I think that that's something that has
often overlooked. I mean, if you reduce court play to
(08:00):
its simplest terms, it's throwing to the right receiver at
the right time, with the right kind of throw. That's
what quarterback play ultimately is. And he's been doing that
at a really high level.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
So let's go back to Denver's win over Kansas City,
because that was the game of the day, sure, along
along with Seattle ram So let's start with bow Nicks,
who had struggled on opening drives. This when he moved
the ball, so he was He's been great late. He
has struggled early. I felt watching him a little less frenetic.
I thought, I just felt like he was running the
(08:35):
offense a little better. And I know it spags. Yeah,
Chris Jones played well. What did the film say about
bo His pace, his tempo, is rhythm, his confidence.
Speaker 4 (08:47):
You know, he may be one of those guys.
Speaker 5 (08:50):
Colin that just has uneven plays where at times you
just look at the play and you go, God, he's
moving for no reason.
Speaker 4 (08:58):
He's moving unnecessary. He does that, He did that in
this game.
Speaker 5 (09:02):
But then he also has really good plays where he
looks very calm and very comfortable and sees it clearly.
So obviously, he's only in his second year, so I'm
not going to sit here and paint him with a
brush for his whole career and say he's always going
to be like that. But he's still working through that
to a certain extent where there are just plays where
it seems as if he almost invents and creates his
(09:25):
own pressure for no reason at all. But then he
looks very calm and composed, and it's just hard to
get a read on it now, obviously, because he looks
common composed in the fourth quarter. He's getting a reputation
as he's a clutch quarterback. But I'm sure Sean Payton
would like to see him play that way through fourth quarters.
Speaker 1 (09:44):
Right, Let's go to Kansas City, could I argue? Yeah,
one thing, the one thing that Mahomes has never been
able to overcome is a really bad tackle left or right.
Is that's the time he's been blown out in Super Bowls.
Really kantasit These offensive issues come down to this. Their
protection Tooney left elite interior linemen right tackle is a
(10:09):
massive concern. It's probably what they're drafting with their first
pick next year. And it just comes down to this.
Mahomes has a very average offensive lineman in that group.
They miss Tooney and he doesn't trust the on line.
Is it that simple? You know?
Speaker 2 (10:24):
Now?
Speaker 5 (10:25):
I think there's a larger context here to the Chiefs.
Let's remember over the last two years, Colin, they've not
been a high scoring offense, okay, And I think a
lot of people lose sight of that. And this is
no knock on Mahomes as a player.
Speaker 4 (10:38):
We know what he is. We know he's a great player.
That's not the point I'm making.
Speaker 5 (10:42):
But I think one thing that has changed this year
which has impacted Mahomes and it impacts their whole team,
is the defense on third down in particular, has not
been as good. Keep in mind, over the last two
three years, their defense has been phenomenal.
Speaker 4 (10:58):
They have not given up many points.
Speaker 5 (11:00):
I think they've given up less than eighteen seventeen points
a game over the last two three years, they were
phenomenal on third down. This year it's not been quite
the same, and that puts a little more of a
burden on your offense. I mean, we're just seeing Mahomes
thrown interception here and again when you get into these
plays that are second reaction outside of structured plays, of
(11:21):
which Mahomes has been special in his career. Josh Allen
has been special in his career. But those are hard
plays to always count on every single week. And if
your defense is putting you in a position where it
seems like you have to make those plays every week,
they don't always happen.
Speaker 1 (11:40):
Yeah, Okay, I actually think people say it's just the Raiders,
but Philadelphia and Dallas play, and I think Dallas has
a puncher's chance. First of all, they're getting excellent receiver play,
excellent running back. The old line. The old line is
young and in past protection it's very uneven. Think they're
(12:01):
a little bit better blocking for the run, or maybe
that's Devonte Williams. But here's the thing. So I said
I defended the Micah Parsons trade because it's a good
NFL draft. They have two first round picks. It's a
good linebacker and edge draft, and I said, they're going
to get a cheaper Mica somewhere or something close, and
they're going to take both those picks will probably be defense.
So I said, I get it. They're paying CD, they're
(12:23):
paying Deck, they're paying a lot of money. But I
watched them against the Raiders and they were healthy and
overshown was back, and that second and that second round
pick was healthy. And then Quinn Williams looked like Robert
Salas Quinn Williams and I said, you know, I said,
now that they're healthy on defense, they're getting pressure on
(12:44):
the quarterback, They're getting there. They're athletic looking. So I
think I'm not saying this is a playoff team. But
I watched them and I didn't think it was just
because it was the Raiders. I look at them and
I think, you know what if they nailed two first
round picks Caleb Downs Ohio State, maybe an edge rusher.
I don't think they're miles away. What do you make
(13:06):
when you watch Dallas athletically draft picks are young players?
Speaker 5 (13:12):
Well, to me, this game is about their offense versus
the Eagles defense, because the Eagles defense is really, really good.
And they've been phenomenal over the last five games. I
mean they've only allowed I think quarterbacks to complete about
fifty five percent. But this is a fascinating matchup because
you're going to get a receiver in George Pickens who
lines up is what we call the boundary X, the
(13:33):
single receiver to the short side of the field more
than any other receiver in football, and the boundary corner
for the Eagles is Quinnyon Mitchell. That'll be a fascinating matchup.
We know that Lamb is phenomenal as sort of a zee,
a movement receiver who can line up anywhere. They've got
a strong run game. The main thing can they protect
Dak Prescott. You're right about the old line. It's a
(13:56):
little uneven, but it has some talented players. I'd be
very concerned about the Jalen Phillips Terrence Feeld matchup on
the right side of their own line because Jalen Phillips,
I mean he ran by pena sua last week and
caused problems.
Speaker 4 (14:10):
So to me, that side of the ball will dictate
the outcome of this game.
Speaker 1 (14:15):
Okay, I want to talk Rams Seattle. I want to
talk specifically rams so the reason their defense is good.
Some of it is just they have not missed on
a defensive draft pick in two or three years. They
got a lot of speed and a lot of power
and a lot of good guys, and they've Emmanuel Forbes
coming over is now some length at corner. They have
very good personnel offensively. What's fascinating is I like their
(14:38):
personnel as well, but they do have these stretches and
you saw it in the second and third quarter where
it just stalls. And we know McVeigh is gifted. We know,
I mean we know. I mean PoCA Devonte tight end
Kyron Williams. Explain why and is it maybe just a
(14:58):
lack of Stafford mobility. He's one of the last hocket guys.
Why is their offense stall at times?
Speaker 5 (15:05):
You know, that's a hard question. I mean this week
they played a very good defense. I mean, they've done
a lot of things. McVeigh is very creative. I mean,
we know that Higbee just went on ir so we'll see.
But they've been playing a ton with three tight ends,
thirteen personnel, one back in three tight ends last month,
last four games, well over forty percent of their offensive snaps. Now,
(15:27):
will that continue without Higbee, they still have three other
tight ends.
Speaker 4 (15:31):
We'll find out.
Speaker 5 (15:32):
And it's funny because in that thirteen personnel package, Nikua
never plays. It's usually Devonte Adams, almost always Devanta Adams
is the wide receiver.
Speaker 4 (15:42):
But you know, offensively they're very good. You know, it's
hard to be great every.
Speaker 5 (15:46):
Possession, and they just played a Seattle defense that's really,
really good. I think their run game has been a
little inconsistent, and that might be one reason.
Speaker 4 (15:55):
Colin.
Speaker 5 (15:55):
I think last week they ran the ball pretty well
against or Williams, had a couple of real good runs
against the Seattle defense. But last week they played a
very good defense. Seattle's got one of the better defenses
in the league.
Speaker 1 (16:08):
Yeah. The other thing about the Rams is they don't
turn it over and they never get penalized. They are
the kleas team in the league for the second year. No, okay,
Josh Allen plays Houston tonight, No, CJ. Stroud. I think
Houston defensively is active.
Speaker 4 (16:22):
And in phenomenal.
Speaker 1 (16:24):
How does Josh Allen, you know, match up with that
Texans defense tonight?
Speaker 5 (16:29):
This is going to be fascinating because Josh Allen is
I mean, he's the most gifted quarterback in the league
just in terms of physical traits, and I think you'd
probably agree with that.
Speaker 4 (16:38):
And we know what he can do.
Speaker 5 (16:40):
We know what he can do in terms of these
special plays, but they've struggled at times this year sort
of playing within structure, within the pass game, and you know,
you wonder can I get I'll tell you what. I
watched this tape in great detail, obviously, and I didn't
think Josh Allen had a great game despite six touchdowns.
I thought there were things he missed. Now, he does
(17:02):
this a lot, and then he often makes up for
it and compensates, And we're going to show that kind
of play momentarily and you'll see exactly what I'm talking about.
Speaker 4 (17:10):
But this is a really hard defense to play against.
Speaker 5 (17:13):
And I don't think you can go into a game
and say, well, Josh is going to make four special plays.
Speaker 4 (17:18):
And we're going to win.
Speaker 5 (17:19):
I think this is the kind of game where you
hope he can do that, but there has to be
a sense of structure and stability to their offense where
they sustain and move the ball. But let me show
this play, Colin, because you'll see exactly what I'm talking
about and this is just one of those plays.
Speaker 4 (17:35):
I mean, it's this is the Josh Allen experience. This
is what he does.
Speaker 1 (17:38):
Oh yeah, I love this.
Speaker 4 (17:39):
This was that forty three yard touchdown yep. And obviously it's.
Speaker 5 (17:44):
Just unbelievable when you see it live, it makes you
jump out of your chair.
Speaker 4 (17:47):
And it was third and three.
Speaker 5 (17:49):
So Allen is in an empty set here, and what
you're going to see is he's going to look to
the left side of the formation to Davis and to Shavers.
That's where he's looking to make this work. And it's
going to be a two man route concept there. You're
going to see Shavers he's going to just run a
little quick outcut and you're going to see Davis run
(18:11):
a curl route.
Speaker 4 (18:13):
That's what the play is. And by the way, the
play works perfectly.
Speaker 5 (18:17):
So you're going to see as this develops, you're going
to see that Davis is going to be wide open.
Speaker 4 (18:24):
And Josh starts to deliver the ball. If you look
at Josh, you can see start deliver the ball. It's
wide open.
Speaker 5 (18:29):
This is the play. It's third and three. Let's take
the play and let's move the chains. You can see
there's no defender who can impact this play. The outside
player's gone with Shavers. Those two defenders are deep. The
inside linebacker he's nowhere near it. He's looking right at him.
You got to make this throw. And I'm always fascinated
(18:51):
by how do they deal with this in the meeting.
Do they say, hey, Josh, you got to make the throw?
Speaker 4 (18:55):
What are you doing?
Speaker 5 (18:56):
And now he runs, so he moves to his right
and there's nothing to it was right, there's nothing there.
So now Colin, as you know, it becomes the Josh
Allen experience that we all love. And Shavers does a
great job of adjusting his route. He's just gonna now
run vertically, and Josh sees him and he does have
great vision on the run, much like Mahomes, and he
(19:18):
makes a throw that you know, I'm not sure a
lot of people see this throw and make this throw,
but this is Josh Allen. So you know, I'm always
fascinated by these plays, Colin, because what I wonder more
than anything when I see plays like this is when
they have their meeting on Monday, what do they say
to him in the meeting. Do they say, oh, great play, Josh,
(19:38):
or do they say, hey, Josh, we had the third
down play mapped out perfectly, and you got to throw
the ball. I mean, I don't really know the answer
to that, but he does this a lot. But the
thing is, as you well know, you can't count on
that to be your offense.
Speaker 1 (19:52):
That's right, Greg Cosel on a Thursday, Bill's and Texans Tonight.
Greg Isola's great stuff.
Speaker 4 (20:00):
Thanks Colin, appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (20:01):
You bet. We'll have a weather forecast for about ten
teams coming up before the end of the hour. Also,
Phil Simms stops by Josh Allen's insane. They just I mean,
you can tell when an athlete's great when you I mean,
(20:21):
there's a lot of years that if the Bills were
on they were a corner game. You know that if
you put nine to ten, fifteen different quarterbacks in the
league in a game Buffalo at Tampa, you know you
wouldn't make it the game of the day. Josh Allen
has the ability to get me to a TV regardless
(20:42):
of who they're playing. I'm just watching to see what
he does.
Speaker 6 (20:44):
Remember how I like to talk about when Dan Marino
left the Dolphins. They were in the wilderness for decades
before they could find a quarterback.
Speaker 7 (20:52):
Remember Jim Kelly with the Buffalo Bills.
Speaker 6 (20:54):
Yeah, he was amazing. How many Super bowls in there?
Three four super bowls in a row.
Speaker 7 (20:57):
They were awesome.
Speaker 6 (20:58):
Then nothing until Josh Allen. You know, as a Jets fan,
I know this because we're still waiting Colin. Like, it's
really tough to find a quarterback.
Speaker 8 (21:06):
In the NFL, oh especially one like Josh one more heard.

our two hour show. We never get to everything, honestly,
because this guy is over promising things.
Speaker 1 (21:38):
We never have time for. Yeah, you blubber list lame
and me.
Speaker 9 (21:41):
Well, you know what it's called over promise. You should
be good at it because you've been over promising women
for years.
Speaker 10 (21:45):
Well, it's a Cavino and Rich after show, and we
want you to be a part of it. We're gonna

Speaker 9 (21:59):
Well, if you don't get enough Covino and Rich, make
sure you check out over Promise and also Uncensored by

There you go, over Promising. Remember you could see on YouTube,
but definitely join us. Listen Over Promised with Cavino and

Speaker 1 (22:24):
Phil Simms stopping by next hour. Jmack with a news no, no,
turn on the news.
Speaker 2 (22:34):
This is the Herdline news.
Speaker 7 (22:37):
I don't know Colin. I mentioned in Neurogum yesterday.
Speaker 6 (22:39):
I feel like you popped some last night because you're
on fire today and I want you to listen to this.
Fernando Mendoza one of the hottest quarterback prospects in the
twenty twenty six strap. He was the topic of a
podcast earlier this week, Remember Joe Klatt gassed him up
on the show.
Speaker 4 (22:54):
He liked him.
Speaker 6 (22:55):
Well, take a listen to this, and I want you
to focus specifically on Urban Meyer as this group talks
about Fernando Mendoza.
Speaker 11 (23:02):
When I caught the ball, I looked over there and
I saw his hips turn, his hips and eyes turned
to that point. All I knew I needed to just
beat that boundary croll defender and beat that boundary safety.
Speaker 7 (23:12):
And once I saw that safety go over the.
Speaker 11 (23:13):
Top the outside receiver defending the whole shot, I just
knew that I needed to put some arc and layer
on it over that hook defense after that, that kind
of like the hook curl defender in order to make
that completion because I knew the other guy, the joker,
had his hips to to the speed.
Speaker 1 (23:30):
Right now, hold on, look at you, Look at you.
Speaker 7 (23:33):
This is what I'm saying. This is as intense and
happening in years.
Speaker 2 (23:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (23:40):
I was told by an NFL coach of some esteem
this week that Mendoza is an easy player to camp
because Indiana runs some NFL stuff, and so he's an
easy player to look at film and say, Okay, he's this, this, this,
he can do that that that because Indiana runs enough
Sunday stuff, pro stuff signetti. So I think he is
(24:04):
the one quarterback in the draft that is a franchise changer.
I think he's really good. I think he's smart, he's big.
I mean just the description there to Urban. I think
he's actually right now being the idea that people think
that ty Simpson and him are in the same class. No,
they're not. This kid was great at Cal with col players.
(24:24):
He's great at Indiana with Indiana players. A lot different
having calin de borr and Bama talent. I think he's
separated Dante More. I think's gifted, but he's twenty and
needs another year in college. To my take, I think
he's separated from everybody I've seen in college football.
Speaker 6 (24:43):
So, about six weeks ago I mentioned this, the Wall
Street Journal did an article on Fernando Mendoza. Just think
about that, The Wall Street Journal. Okay, this is some
sports publication. This guy is at his second getting a
second graduate school.
Speaker 7 (24:55):
Degree right now. He's a genius.
Speaker 6 (24:57):
Legitimately, his off season isn't you know, throwing to wide
receivers in Miami. Okay, he's doing business school in the
off season, and he's got internships. This is a literal
genius Colin, and I'm telling you he would be so
good with my New York Jets. Bring some stability and calm. Now,
obviously there's gonna be questions. Does a nerd like this
fit into an NFL locker room?
Speaker 7 (25:18):
Which earner?
Speaker 6 (25:19):
You know, tough guys, I would hope, so you know us.
He's a smart kid, and I like smart I want
them on my team.
Speaker 1 (25:25):
Yeah, I will tell you this. Brady used to you know,
before Brady won super Bowls and was cool, Brady could
be a little nerdy. Peyton Manning was never cool. Andrew
Luck was not cool at all. I worry when a
quarterback wants to be cool, you know, like that Johnny
Manziel being cool mattered a lot. Yeah, I mean I
(25:48):
Kirk Cousins won a lot of games being socially nerdy.
I'm sorry. I'm okay with it this kid, And I'm
serious on this. You know what I feel like, I
get Andrew Luck without the reckless. That's what I feel like.
I'm watching. I think he's this good. I think he
is Andrew Luck. And again, Andrew Luck had Stanford teammates
(26:08):
a lot of three star guys at Stanford, not like
Indiana's five star guys. I feel like I'm getting some
Andrew Luck qualities. Big, smart, tough, can move well enough,
but a true pocket guy. But I don't get the
mistakes well people.
Speaker 6 (26:22):
The real test will be if he could go to
a rotten franchise like the Jets or the Browns or
the Saints and elevate them.
Speaker 7 (26:28):
That's the true test of.
Speaker 1 (26:29):
Great Go watch him against Ohio State because that is
three top twelve defensive players, Matt Patricia. I don't think
he's gonna win, but when he went to Oregon against
Dan Lannings defense and he tore up in Outson, really impressive.
Speaker 7 (26:47):
Yeah, I'm a fan.
Speaker 6 (26:49):
Jets just need to lose a few more games to
secure mister Mendoza. All right, let's move on to oh yeah,
we never talk about this guy, Aaron Rodgers. Reports are
now Colin did he makes I try to play? Yes,
try to play this weekend against the Bears with the
broken bone in his wrist. Now we know Rogers, spending
many years with the Packers, hates the Bears. He would
do the celebration, would joke about owning them. Listen, here
(27:13):
he is talking to reporters about the Bears.
Speaker 4 (27:17):
It's a great robbery.
Speaker 12 (27:19):
I mean, in the history of all sports, you talk
about the Lakers and Celtics and the Red Sox and
the Yankees, you got to talk about the Packers and
the Bears. And there's been some great memories there. When
I first got to Green Bay, the Bears had the
all time series lead. When I left, the Packers did
says Jay Love is taken over. It's even gotten better.
(27:41):
But I hope, I hope those fans can put that
put that behind. I'm sure they can't.
Speaker 1 (27:47):
I think this is fascinating because I think I want
to see Aaron play because I think he gives them
the best chance to win, and I want a good game.
You know, it's just how interesting are the Bears games.
So it's amazing.
Speaker 2 (28:00):
You get an.
Speaker 1 (28:00):
Offensive coach, you get a young quarterback with all sorts
of horsepower. Bear games to me or must watch. I
think it's a real I will say this, I kind
of know what I get every week from Chicago. They're
gonna run the ball a lot, and they're gonna run
it pretty well, and they're gonna be very good and
late and the game will be close. I kind of
feel Pittsburgh week to week blown out by Seattle and
(28:23):
then can come the next week. I mean, they can
play the Jets and struggle. They could get blown out
at home win on the road. I never know what
I'm getting from Pittsburgh. They are a chameleon to the environment.
So I think it's a fascinating game.
Speaker 6 (28:37):
Yeah, I don't know the line is saying that Rogers
is gonna play. Remember it was stuck on three most
of the week with Mason Rudolph. Now we're seeing two
and a half. I mean, listen, this isn't difficult for
your Bears, right, Hey, I just looked at the weather report.
It's gonna be like fifty forties or fifty Sunday, no
rain or anything.
Speaker 7 (28:54):
So you gotta blitz Rogers. Just you got to get
after him and say, hey, we're.
Speaker 6 (28:57):
Not gonna let you chuck it up the DK Metcalf
and hope that he fumbles the ball in the pocket
because he's got to be wearing something on his hand
with the broken wrists.
Speaker 7 (29:04):
So I bet the Bears earlier this week.
Speaker 6 (29:06):
Not feeling great about it, but go Chicago. Final story
Colin Lamar Jackson. Bad news yesterday. Okay, this is yesterday.
He missed practice with an ankle injury.
Speaker 7 (29:18):
Not great.
Speaker 6 (29:19):
I just checked as we went live here a few
moments ago. Lamar Jackson jogged out of the you know,
the stadium. He is at practice today, so he missed yesterday.
We don't know if he's throwing today or just making
an appearance. But this is a little troubling facing my Jets.
Huge two touchdown favorites, down to thirteen and a half.
Tyrod Taylor starting for the Jets. The Ravens have no
(29:42):
room for air Collin. They must have Lamar because you
saw them without him earlier this year.
Speaker 1 (29:46):
Not good. They're fine, They're gonna win, all right. Jmack
with the news.
Speaker 2 (29:56):
Well that's the news, and thanks for stopping by the
herd Lie News.
Speaker 1 (30:01):
Yeah, the Phil Simms is going to be joining us
last hour. Speaking of weather, we got about ten teams here,
and there's so many things that now matter. You know,
for years and years we always said this about Belichick
and Brady and their dynasty. They were a different football
team around Thanksgiving on They were very beatable September early October.
(30:24):
Then things changed. Running games matter more. Your schedule matters
more if you're a warm weather dome team and you
have to go two or three weeks in a row
to cold weather. So there's a lot of things to consider.
Are you a good home team like Buffalo, How many
home games do you have left? Are you healthy? We'll
have our weather forecast for top ten top teams in
(30:45):
this league next in Chicago, It's the Hurd.
Speaker 2 (30:49):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
in noon Easter nn AM Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 6 (30:59):
Sunday, a Fox NFL doubleheader starts with Justin Jefferson and
the Vikings taking on Jordan Love and the Packers or
other regional action. Then in America's Game of the Week,
Jalen Hurts and the Eagles battle Dak Prescott and the
Cowboys or Falcon Saints. Check local listings for the games
in your area only on Fox.
Speaker 1 (31:21):
Well it entering Week twelve gets windy, gets cold. The
weather does play a factor this point forward, So it
is time for me to pivot to my alter ego,
sky Banister, handsome weatherman, hair made of wood. Here we go,
Jay Mac, give me the game. I'll give you the
weather forecast for that team.
Speaker 7 (31:43):
Okay, Sky Banister. What's the forecast for the Buffalo Bills
this season?
Speaker 1 (31:47):
Looks like unseasonably warm weather ahead for the Bills. No
Buffalo temperatures. Why they only play one opponent that ranks
top half of the league in rushing is their achilles heel.
I don't see any Buffalo temperatures. They're heating up down
the stretch. Buffalo getting hot.
Speaker 7 (32:09):
What's the forecast like for the Steelers this season?
Speaker 1 (32:13):
Stormy, flash, floods or they have flash in the pan.
Why Aaron Rodgers is banged up and the next three
games are at the Bears, Bills, and Ravens. It is
a really bad time for Aaron Rodgers to not be
at one hundred percent All.
Speaker 7 (32:31):
Right, storm? What's the forecast like for the Ravens this season?
Speaker 1 (32:36):
Clear skies, mild weather ahead in Maryland? Why birds are
flying north to their playoff paradise three of their remaining
games bingals twice in the Jets next three games are
all at home. I see clear sailing icee winning streaks
(32:56):
despite Lamar missing practice yesterday.
Speaker 6 (33:00):
What's the forecast like for the struggling Kansas City Chiefs?
Speaker 1 (33:03):
This season, not stormy or clear. It's partly cloudy. So
they are playing some home games coming up. They've been
good there, but the season really comes down to this
week on the road against the Colts off of bye.
So it could be really if those clouds could move
out of the way if they beat Indy. But I
(33:24):
think their season comes down to Sunday on the road
or I think they're at home. Excuse me, they're at home.
Daniel Jones off of bye with Shane Stike and a
healthy Colts roster.
Speaker 6 (33:39):
All right, what's the forecast like for the Denver Broncos
this season?
Speaker 1 (33:43):
Clear skies. Maybe they got their playoff picnic basket already
made and set up. Listen, Week seventeen Chiefs is the
tough one. They've won the last two against Kansas City
twelve and two, the last couple of years at home.
This is a team that's got a lot a lot
of home games coming up. Bow Nicks, I thought was
(34:04):
less frenetic against Kansas City than he was in previous weeks.
I like what I see going forward. They'll retain that
number one seed.
Speaker 2 (34:13):
All right.
Speaker 7 (34:13):
What's the forecast like for the La Chargers this season?
Speaker 1 (34:17):
Stormy, where there's lightning, there's always thunder. They have backups
everywhere in the old line, and they're gonna face some
of the best pass rushing teams over the next seven games, Chiefs, Texans, Eagles, Broncos.
What they struggle with is what they are facing over
the next seven games.
Speaker 6 (34:38):
What's the forecast like for the Philadelphia Eagles this season?
Speaker 1 (34:43):
Well, as the show says, it's always Sonny in Philadelphia.
Here's the advantage. Week thirteen, they face the Bears, but
under Siriani, they're eleven to zero against the NFC North.
Their toughest game is Week seventeen at the Bills. By
that time, Lane Johnson could be healthy, should be healthy,
(35:04):
So it kind of works in their favor. A couple
of tough games, but they match up well.
Speaker 7 (35:10):
What's the forecast like for the Detroit Lions this season?
Speaker 1 (35:13):
Well, Detroit season isn't black and white. It's a lot
of gray. It's partly cloudy. Here's what I worry about
with the Detroit Lions going forward at the Rams at
the Bears, but six of their seven remaining games are
in doors. You know who loves indoor football one Jared Golf.
(35:37):
So it is there's some clouds there at LA, at Chicago,
Green Bay. A lot of indoor games benefits this quarterback.
What's the forecast like for Micah and the Packers this season?
All right, not to sound cheesy, but it doesn't look
GOODA I don't know, I don't know. Green Bays three
(36:00):
of the last four games are on the road. For
their last five games are in cold weather environments, and
they can't run the football. I don't mind if you're
playing in cold Chicago. You gotta be about Philadelphia. You
gotta be able to run the ball efficiently when you're
playing in cold weather Green Bay. Can that means relying
(36:21):
on down the field throws.
Speaker 6 (36:23):
It does not look good to all right, we saved
the worst for last what's the forecast like for the
Chicago Bears this season?
Speaker 1 (36:30):
I will acknowledge a little stormy. Chicago faces hazardous wins ahead.
They could blow their playoff chances away three truck They
got three tough roadies at Philly, at Green Bay, at Niners.
No easy games. Even the should win games like Pittsburgh
are tough. They got to pay play the Packers twice, Eagles, Niners, Lions.
(36:57):
So never forget, oh, always keep it here for all
your weather updates with long term award winning meteorologists. Sky Banister,
I like that goodle.
Speaker 7 (37:10):
Line leap gooda line is really strong, sky Banister.
Speaker 1 (37:14):
Huh yeah, I mean listen, I think the Steelers, the Chargers,
and the Bears got stormy weather ahead. The one thing
I will say, the Steelers and the Chargers are not
running the football well the Bears are. That is a
huge advantage in lowsy way. That's what worries me a
little bit about Green Bay is that you know, weather
(37:36):
go sideways. You go look Baltimore, bad weather territory. Another
problem with Kansas City if they don't beat Indianapolis, they're
not running the football. So I mean Xavier Worthy, he's
going to become much less profound in December and January.
Speaker 7 (37:52):
He's already catching like three passes of game tops.
Speaker 1 (37:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (37:56):
Can I ask you about the Chiefs real quick? Con
so interesting you have partly cloud. I just want to
frame this.
Speaker 6 (38:01):
So the Texans play tonight, the Chiefs are battling them
for a playoff spot.
Speaker 7 (38:05):
Yeah, like legitimately they're scoreboard watching. They're not used to that.
And then the Jags play Arizona like they got. The
Chiefs have to monitor that.
Speaker 6 (38:13):
And I can't get over the fact that off of
bye week they laid an egg largely against the Broncos.
Speaker 1 (38:18):
That is there. Do you think they were game.
Speaker 6 (38:20):
Planning at all at the same time for the Colts
or was it like, hey, we got to beat the Broncos.
Speaker 3 (38:24):
No, no, no.
Speaker 1 (38:25):
I think there's a couple of things that are very true.
Chris Jones is not the player he was a year
and a half ago. He is not. And when he's not,
you know, Aaron Donald was getting double and triple team
to the very last game as a RAM, Chris Jones
is not as dominant. Well, when you take out, like
when you take out you know Bosa gets hurt for
(38:47):
the Niners, you know they wouldn't have a pass rush,
right Like if Khalil mack Tomorrow got hurt for the Chargers,
there goes a big chunk of their pass rush. There's
a reason these guys on the outside, the Miles Garretts,
the Max Crosby is, the Trey Hendrickson. There were so
much you can't duplicate them. It's much easier in the
draft to find a running back or a wide receiver
or an interior aligneman, quarterbacks, left tackles and edge rushers
(39:11):
or interior defensive lineman. I mean, Jalen Carter had a
lot of baggage and Philly's like, no problem. Why just
the body compositions. They're just not many guys that are
three forty with good feet. So Chris Jones for about
a five year period was unblockable and they could move
him all over. They could put him on the edge,
they could put him inside. You couldn't block him. You
(39:32):
had to double him. He's not the same player, yeah,
and now he'll have bursts. Same with Travis Kelce. Travis
Kelce has games, but it does feel like he plays
well when he has to. He's not consistent. So I
think part of this for Kansas City is they don't
run the ball well and they don't intimidate you and
alter your game plan up front. And it's the reality
(39:53):
of Chris Jones. Great player, very good player. Last year.
Next year is the last year with guaranteed money. You
probably gotta rip the band aid.
Speaker 6 (40:00):
But remember lou Almaruno, the defensive coordinator for the Colts,
was with the Bengals for many years. He's the one
who schemed up that defense at Arrowhead to beat Mahomes
in the playoff.
Speaker 7 (40:11):
Remember the game.
Speaker 6 (40:12):
I think it went overtime, the Mahomes through the interception,
and the Bengals are right there with them in another
playoff game. So there's a world where he plays a
lot of zone mixes up the blitzes and Mahomes has
not been good under pressure Colin at all this season,
especially the high leverage games.
Speaker 7 (40:27):
And then in factor in the Chief's inability to stop
the run.
Speaker 6 (40:30):
You know, the Bills had a one hundred yard rusher
against him, Cook went nuts. If they can't stop the
run Jonathan Taylor in that offensive line, I think Kansas
City's in trouble here.
Speaker 2 (40:38):
I'm not going all in.
Speaker 6 (40:39):
I don't know if it's in headlines yet, but this
is like a one of the bigger games of the season.
Speaker 1 (40:44):
Yeah, there's a You know, the NFL has the ability
to create great games out of games that don't appear
to be interesting matchups. Steelers Bears could be very interesting.
New England at Cincinnati. Joe Burrow was at practice today.
That get very interesting. Jacksonville, which nobody trusts on the road,
(41:04):
goes to Arizona. You know, if if Denver. If Kansas
City can beat the Colts and Jacksonville win, it's a
big And you know Houston's gonna lose tonight and the
Colts are underdogs to Kansas City. That is a huge
game in the history of the Jaguars franchise to go
to Arizona and win. But they're a dysfunctional, weird franchise
(41:25):
that you don't trust in big spots. I also, and
you know they're keep your eye on Dallas hosting Philadelphia. Yeah,
that is a really interesting game for me.
Speaker 7 (41:37):
Yeah, Collins.
Speaker 6 (41:37):
So the four pm slate on paper doesn't look good
Jacksonville Arizona, but then you've got schadors starting for the Browns,
which is fascinating. And I'm gonna I'm gonna be honest.
I got some friends in Atlanta and they're worried about
the Saints Falcons game. I know nobody cares, but it's
not just the game. Raheem Morris could be in some
trouble if this season totally flops. Remember they didn't want
(41:58):
to trade Kirk Cousins. They could have tried to ship
them to somebody.
Speaker 2 (42:01):
Collin.
Speaker 7 (42:01):
It's not looking good for the Falcons at all. In
that coaching staff.
Speaker 1 (42:04):
Phil sims around the corner. Two down, one to go.
It's the hurt
