Speaker 2 (00:19):
This is the Best of the Herd with Colin Cowver
on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
Oh, it is a Fried day.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
We got a spicy show, Blazing five in an hour,
red hot sixty two percent. I'll do something in the
Blazing five I'm not sure I've ever done before in
one hour. Josh Allen upset they couldn't get the plane
on time. So, Buffalo, wherever you may be, however you
(00:50):
may be listening or watching, thanks for making us part
of your day. So Josh Allen once again feels like
a six foot six pinata upset time last night. So
four things are happening with Buffalo, none of them good.
They become very turnover prone. Three last night Houston with
(01:12):
no run game ran for over one hundred yards. The
O line got worked. And oh, by the way, they
have no deep threat at all. Other than that, things
are great. A lot of times quarterbacks let down a franchise.
I feel like the franchise can't get the playing on
time is letting down Josh Allen. I mean, Davis Mills
is a pro, I get it, but he engineered two
(01:35):
long drives seventy seven to seventy five yards. My eyes
tell me I watched that game. You watch that game.
Texans have better players. That there's seven or eight great
rosters in this league. Buffalo's not one of them. They're
not one of them. I mean, at D line wide
receiver in corner, Houston's much better.
Speaker 3 (01:55):
It's not close.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
I don't want to hear that Ed Oliver's hurt it's
the NFL, or that Dalton kin Kaid's not available. You
have two other tight ends, or that Keon Coleman. The
young receivers a bit immature, went a league full young guys.
The Texans were missing their quarterback, and the Bills are
getting into a really bad habit of losing the average quarterbacks.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
Their last three losses.
Speaker 1 (02:18):
Are to Tua, Michael Pennix, and Davis Mills. And I
know he's a pro, but Davis Mills should not be
beating Josh Allen. I don't want to see chef boy
r d Out cooking Bobby Flay ever under any circumstances period.
Speaker 3 (02:35):
So now Josh Allen.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
Clearly is pressing because he doesn't have a deep threat.
Houston's got a real defense. He's been pressing this year,
so a turnovers are up. He has three more picks
than all of last season. And why nobody's opened down field.
You can't win super Bowls in this league where every
drive is fourteen plays. You need a Jamiir Gibbs to
peel a big one off for Justin Jefferson to go
(02:58):
over the top, or Dia Adams to beat his man.
Buffalo didn't have that. Houston had more speed, a little
bit more size, more depth. So Buffalo suddenly now can
only win one way. Josh Allen has to have three
or more touchdowns and last week he had six.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
They can win that way.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
Not sustainable, and he's only missed four games in his career.
But Josh Allen, on more than one occasion last night,
got up slowly, and I don't care that he's six
to six. Go ask Cam Newton and Big Ben who
took a beating because they extended plays put themselves in
(03:38):
the crosshairs. It's not all the offensive line's fault. He
extends plays, he can run backwards. He did done a
couple times last night. But go ask Cam and Big
Ben who were six to six. It takes years off
your prime. So Josh Allen is thirty now and he's
going to be out of this prime in a couple
of years. So buffalo to me. Brandon being the GM,
(04:02):
he didn't have enough help offensively. It's on you. It's
on Sean McDermott can't get a play it on time.
It's on the old line, it's on the wide receivers. Yes,
Keon Coleman is a bit immature at this point in
his life. You got to do the homework when you
draft him. You know. Young receivers like that sometimes have
red flags. You gotta do the homework. That's part of it,
(04:24):
you know. And so you know, young guy being a
bit immature, welcome to professional sports. I don't want to
hear blaming him. So all I know is in this
league we beat up on quarterbacks when they can't carry
a good coach or carry a good roster.
Speaker 3 (04:40):
I feel like you got the quarterback, you can't.
Speaker 1 (04:43):
Be losing it to him and backups and Michael Pennix
can't can't happen. Josh Allen is forcing it. Josh Allen's frustrated.
He got clobbered last night. Now g again. Houston's defensive front,
I mean Houston defense overall. Bullock's great. In the back end,
they're really good. They're not that good. Here's the coach
(05:06):
and Josh.
Speaker 4 (05:07):
After when they hit their quarterback twelve times.
Speaker 5 (05:11):
You know, I don't like that.
Speaker 4 (05:13):
I don't like that stat at all.
Speaker 6 (05:15):
And it's not a healthy way to play or a
healthy way to keep our quarterback healthy through the remainder
of the season.
Speaker 7 (05:24):
I got to be better. I'll throwing the ball away
and living to see another down and letting this play
some situational football and pen them deep. And too many
times I was going backwards and I gotta be better
on that.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
Speaking of another very talented quarterback. Sunday and sunny Chicago
Bears hosts the Steelers, and there's a lot of Caleb
Williams critics and doubters. I am not one of them,
although I do think sometimes I'd like to see more
consistent accuracy. But for the doubters and critics, this is
(05:57):
a game that you are waiting to see, right, because
Pittsburgh punishes you. They forced eleven turnovers with Daniel Jones
and Drake May. Those teams are combined seventeen to four,
and those teams are better than Pittsburgh, but Pittsburgh beat
them because they took the ball away. The Steelers are
(06:17):
five and oho when they win the turnover battle, and
it's the only way Pittsburgh's going to win this weekend.
Why because Aaron Rodgers is not one hundred percent and
he's old, and they cannot run the football. Okay, so
Pittsburgh is last week they played since the four touchdowns
too aur on defense. That's how Pittsburgh wins now, especially
with Aaron probably planning about seventy five eighty percent. The
(06:38):
running game is bad. It's not getting better, so this
should be a low scoring game. Whoever wins the turnover
battle probably wins the game. That's how Pittsburgh's going to
have to win, and it probably should be one of
those games where Caleb Williams plays in structure and it's
(06:59):
kind of boring. Boring will win because I think Chicago
is the better team and they're at home and they
have the better offense, and the weather's not going to
be an issue. So this is a classic game in
the NFL for a young quarterback to have to understand
what he needs to deliver. This does not need to
(07:20):
be a highlight. Get rid of the ball quickly, Do
not tease or challenge TJ. Watt, stay in the pocket,
get rid of it. Play with instructure. Caleb does not
throw a lot of picks. But if he's going to
this Pittsburgh team with Mike Tomlin is a great underdog team.
(07:41):
Tomlin's is going to underdog coach and motivator as the
league has and Aaron's banged up and they can't run
the ball, So there is a way Mike Tomlin is preaching,
we're taking the ball away from the young guy. We
got to create turnovers. We have to score in defense
and special teams. It's their route to win. Chicago can
(08:03):
win multiple ways, but the absolute way they'll lose is
to play in at Tomlin, which is turnovers and giveaways.
So I think I think Caleb's gonna play well. I
think Chicago's the better team. I think the weather sets
up for him. I like Chicago in this spot, don't
(08:23):
love him, like him and here's Mike Tomlin unfacing Caleb Williams.
Speaker 8 (08:28):
And I can't say enough about what I've seen from
Caleb Williams. Certainly I had studied him a lot, being
in a young guy in this league and an NFC guy,
but just really impressed with his physical talents. His ability
to throw the football is his accuracy, his arm strength,
his ability to extend, his ability to see the full
(08:50):
feel while doing so, minimizing negativity. The creativity associated with
his escapability and play extension is really challenge.
Speaker 3 (09:01):
Now.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
Drake may has been unbelievable this year. He unraveled against
the Seedlers, Daniel Jones and the Colts offense number one
in the league in efficiency. Daniel Jones unraveled against Pittsburgh
and the culture better than Pittsburgh. Let's be honest about that.
New England's better than Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh beat them both one way.
(09:25):
The defense creates turnovers. That is the way Pittsburgh wins
this weekend. So can Caleb play really? Play with instructure
kind of be boring, Get rid of the ball quickly, don't, don't,
don't tease TJ Watt, don't.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
It's not good. So I think it's a fascinating game.
Speaker 1 (09:45):
And if you're a critic or a doubter of Caleb Williams,
you're sitting there on X you're just ready to push send.
Speaker 3 (09:52):
You are just ready to push told you so.
Speaker 1 (09:57):
I think I think Chicago is a better team, whether
play is the part, Aaron's banged up.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
I think they're gonna win.
Speaker 1 (10:04):
J Mac Spicy Show today, Chador Sanders, I can't wait.
You know, the NFL's king when two and eight faces
two and eight and I can't wait to watch. And
it's gonna be a merchandise floodgate for the NFL this weekend.
Shador is gonna sell nothing but jerseys.
Speaker 6 (10:23):
We gotta we definitely have to talk about the Cowboys
and the alleged vomit and the casino the night before.
Speaker 3 (10:29):
The game that may or may not be true. I
love that story.
Speaker 6 (10:32):
But Colin, I want to go to Houston, which you
open with. Somebody just pointed this out. So the division
leaders from last year, these are the folks who won
the division. Buffalo, Baltimore, Houston, and Kansas City. Probably two
of those are gonna miss the playoffs this year. So
next August, assuming you know, we're still doing the show.
We have to remember do not get chalky and say,
(10:53):
oh yeah, these.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
Are the good teams.
Speaker 6 (10:54):
Well, because every year this wacky, crazy stuff happens.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
Now Houston's one, I think three straight. I always say
this what I look at a coach. That's why I've
always defended Lincoln Riley. His side of the ball has
been unbelievable at USC. This is where all support Demiko
ryans that defense is a handful. They may c J. Stroud,
may get banged up. Their run games stinks, you know,
(11:18):
their number one backs out, But you look at that
defense Josh Allen last night and again he didn't have
a lot to work with. You could the reason he
was holding the ball. It was like Houston had twelve
guys in the field. There was nothing, not a lot available.
I mean, I love that fourth and whatever, big pickup.
That was a wonderful play. Then they you know, it'd
be nice if they could get you know, the biggest
(11:39):
play of the game in on time. But Houston is
defensively an elite team.
Speaker 6 (11:43):
Well, it'd be nice if the Buffalo Bills had a
wide receiver who could separate. I don't know, maybe they
should have got one in the offseason or at the
trade deadline, because Josh Allen's look looking around, nobody's open, Colin.
And by the way, this offensive line, can we get
Dion Dawkins he loves coming on the show. I mean
they were obliterate, rated last night, obliterated. How are they
gonna win three straight.
Speaker 3 (12:02):
Road playoffs games and go to the super Bowl? They're not.
They're not. Buffalo's not going to the super Bowl. They're not.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and Noone Eastern non am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 9 (12:17):
Hey, we're Covino and Rich Fox Sports Radio every day
five to seven pm Eastern. But here's the thing, we
never have enough time to get to everything we want
to get to.
Speaker 10 (12:25):
And that's why we have a brand new podcast called
over Promised. You see, we're having so much fun in
our two hour show. We never get to everything, honestly,
because this guy is over promising things we never have
time for. Yeah, you blubber list lame and me.
Speaker 9 (12:40):
Well, you know what it's called over promise. You should
be good at it because you've been over promising women
for years.
Speaker 10 (12:44):
Well, it's a Cavino and Rich after show, and we
want you to be a part of it. We're gonna
be talking sports, of course, but we're also gonna talk
life and relationships. And if Rich and I are arguing
about something or we didn't have enough time, it will
continue on our after show called over Promised.
Speaker 9 (12:58):
Well, if you don't get enough Covino and Rich, make
sure you check out over Promise and also Uncensored by
the way, so maybe we'll go at it even a
little harder. It's gonna be the best after show podcast
of all time.
Speaker 10 (13:08):
There you go, over Promising. Remember you could see it
on YouTube, but definitely join us. Listen Over Promised with
Cavino and Rich on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or
wherever you get your podcasts.
Speaker 2 (13:21):
Let's blaze it up, it Up. It's Collins Blazing five
Vikings at Packers.
Speaker 1 (13:27):
I'm gonna take Green Bay as a home favorite to
win and cover minus six and a half. This is
about Jeff Hapley, green Bay's defensive coordinator. He has built
a very sound defense second fewest big plays surrendered in
the league, over at least one takeaway at least one
(13:48):
in five straight games. So this is about Green Bay
at home, where everybody's defense is better at home against
JJ McCarthy, who I don't think in the face of
this defense, can clean play clean football. He's got multiple
picks in three of four starts. His completion percentage is
under fifty three percent this year. He is a quarterback
(14:10):
that needs to play with confidence and a lead. I
don't think he will. I'm gonna go with Jeff Hapley's
defense to create some offense. Packers win and cover. It's
a lot. It's a division game, twenty eight to twenty
Steelers at Bears.
Speaker 3 (14:30):
The up and down Steelers are gonna lose.
Speaker 1 (14:32):
I'm gonna take the Bears to win and cover minus
two and a half. Let's they've won seven of their
last eight games. Number two rushing offense, they don't need
big plays.
Speaker 3 (14:44):
Caleb does not throw.
Speaker 1 (14:45):
A lot of picks, and at home, he's a better
quarterback at home. He's only taken one sack in the
last three games. In his passer ratings mid nineties, he
has been like a lot of young quarterbacks, he's been
better at home.
Speaker 3 (14:57):
The Steelers Aaron Rodgers is banged up.
Speaker 1 (14:59):
They can't on the football, and right now they've allowed
twenty five plus points in three of their four road games.
So defenses, Cleveland's an example, Pittsburgh an example, tend to
be better at home. I'm gonna take the Bears to
win and the Bears to cover twenty seven twenty one.
Speaker 2 (15:19):
Coltsit Chiefs.
Speaker 1 (15:20):
I like the over fifty and a half. It's the
two most efficient offenses in the NFL, and the Colts
are off a bye, so you know Shane Steichen's gonna
have some tricks. No two teams have punted less in
the NFL than the Colts.
Speaker 3 (15:36):
And the Chiefs.
Speaker 1 (15:38):
And the Colts and their opponents are averaging for to
fifty three a game.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
So I'm just going to take the over here. And
their defense in.
Speaker 1 (15:44):
Back to back games is a little banged up, is
giving up over twenty five a game. The Chiefs average
twenty nine at home. Mahomes has played much better at home,
and Kansas City is desperate. Don't be shocked if the
Chiefs don't have their performance of the year off that
Denver loss. I'm taking the over. I think it's a
(16:06):
close game. Kansas City wins twenty eight twenty four. Take
the over fifty point five points.
Speaker 2 (16:13):
Seahawks at Titans.
Speaker 3 (16:14):
I never take huge favorites. I'm breaking my rule.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
Seattle minus thirteen and a half at Tennessee. Tennessee's zero
to five at home.
Speaker 3 (16:25):
Six of their.
Speaker 1 (16:25):
Losses are by over ten. Seattle out gained the Rams
by one hundred and sixty five points, out played them
the final three quarters almost one.
Speaker 3 (16:34):
With four picks.
Speaker 1 (16:35):
They're a great road team eleven and two because defense
and running games travel.
Speaker 3 (16:40):
Seattle does both well.
Speaker 1 (16:42):
Sam Darnold despite the picks, PFF has him ranked number two.
Tennessee the atrocious worst point differential in the league. They do
nothing right. I think the locker room may be lost
at this point. I hate taking huge favorites. Seattle wins
in cut thirty one to thirteen.
Speaker 2 (17:04):
Panthers at forty nine ers.
Speaker 1 (17:06):
Okay, I'm gonna take Carolina plus seven. They've won three
straight on the road. Bryce Young is six and four
if you're not watching, and actually he's had back to
back games completing sixty eight percent of his throws. And
the Niners defense is a mess. It's all beat up.
Robert Salla is doing it with smoke and mirrors. They
are just depleted. And I'll tell you this. The Niners
(17:30):
are a weird team. Go look the last year, year
and a half how they've played after wins. Some of
their worst games have been after they win, and you
think they're gonna get momentum. The defense has the fewest
sacks in the NFL this year. So Bryce Young, who's
been on good on the road, playing with momentum, is
gonna have time to throw.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
I think it's close.
Speaker 1 (17:50):
I think San Francisco, probably at home, finds the way
to win. Also, the Niners, despite having Christian McCaffrey, are
not running the ball particularly well. Eight of their eleven
games under a hundred yard rushing. I'm gonna take seven points.
I think Carolina is one of those teams that people
aren't giving the credit to them because they've been so
bad and so dysfunctional. Carolina can go total toe. Carolina
(18:13):
won at Lambeau. Carolina plus seven number does not make
a lot of sense to me. I'm gonna take the points.
I think it's a game that goes to the very end.
I'll take the home team. There you go, jamick anything
you like or dislike, vehemently like.
Speaker 6 (18:30):
The Seahawks, sort of like the Bears, sort of like
the Packers, I don't know about the.
Speaker 4 (18:36):
Panthers, Colin. There is some.
Speaker 6 (18:39):
There's some juice behind this Niners offense right now. I
don't think that Panthers can hold them down. Yeah, I
would lean Niners in that one. But overall, Hey, you're hot.
What can I say? I mean we did both go
five and oh last week.
Speaker 3 (18:52):
Yeah, I don't ate your picks.
Speaker 6 (18:53):
I'm surprised you didn't weigh in on the Shedure Bowl
to Doure and against the Raiders.
Speaker 2 (18:58):
Be sure to catch live editions up the Herd weekdays
and nowon Easter not a Empacific.
Speaker 3 (19:03):
Well, let's go to Julian Edelman. Three Super Bowl rings and.
Speaker 1 (19:07):
MVP twelve years. Let's talk shod Her. I don't expect much.
I don't buy into the conspiracy theories. He's he's a
delightful kid. I think Max Crosby's gonna be chasing him around.
I don't like the negative plays by him. I do
think he throws a good ball. What are your expectations
(19:27):
for Shader Sanders?
Speaker 3 (19:29):
I mean, are they high, low, middle? Where are you at?
Speaker 4 (19:32):
I think they're probably middle.
Speaker 5 (19:35):
I think the expectation is he'll be better than last week.
He's playing a team that's pretty bad, but that has
a good defense.
Speaker 4 (19:42):
In the Raiders.
Speaker 5 (19:43):
Max crobbs to be Max Crosby can ruin a guy's day.
So anytime a young quarterback has an elite pass rusher
that he knows he's going against, I'm sure he's going
to be thinking about that, speeding up his quarterback clock process.
But I do expect him to be better than last
week because he's going to have some reps this week
with the ones. He's going to be the focal point
(20:04):
in practice, which usually backups aren't.
Speaker 4 (20:08):
So I expect him to be.
Speaker 5 (20:12):
Mid better than last week, but not terrible, because he
does know how to play ball six' seven, maybe.
Speaker 4 (20:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (20:22):
You one of the REASONS i think The chiefs are
dangerous is because we always want to count out the old,
athlete you, know the old, gronk and then he goes
and has a great like Old Travis.
Speaker 3 (20:33):
Kelcey oh what do you? Know he has nine.
Speaker 1 (20:35):
CATCHES i Think Kansas, city when you don't want to
play The chiefs is when if they lose their out
of the playoffs AND i want you to go to
your career and maybe a year For New england when
people were counting you out you were facing a very
good or hot. TEAM i just think champions are really
dangerous when nobody's buying, them when everybody they, hear the,
(20:59):
media they. Listen in your, CAREER i Think Kansas city
plays great this. Weekend go to your. Career do you
remember a moment like?
Speaker 4 (21:07):
That, YEAH i think we were in, eighteen late in the.
Speaker 5 (21:13):
Year we were struggling on, offense trying to figure out
what we. Were we were doing a lot of that thirteen,
personnel twelve, personnel a lot of tight. Ends we were
struggling to get guys open on the, outside very similar
to what The chiefs are going. Through and then you,
know we were playing Against buffalo when they were young
and they were, spry and they had a lot going
(21:33):
for them late in the. Year we ended up winning
that game and that kind of gave us our confidence.
Boost and we lost a game In december that, YEAR i,
believe to The, steelers which you know that's kind of
the time where you don't want to start losing. Games
is one of the first times we've lost In december
where we're going a long. Run SO i think the
(21:54):
confidence booster was when we played that Young buffalo team
that was playing very.
Speaker 4 (21:58):
Well, everyone we didn't have the firepower to do.
Speaker 5 (22:01):
It we found a way to get a, win and
it took that right there to let everyone, Know, hey
we're still. Around we still played in a lot of ball.
Games we've played in foot more important football games than
most of these teams have even, played and we've.
Speaker 4 (22:17):
Forgotten that many. Games and that.
Speaker 5 (22:19):
Could be said about The, chiefs like these guys didn't
forget how to play. Football, yeah they're in a little
funk right, now but they still have a lot of
good football, players AND i expect them to turn it
on in the back after the season because they know
ultimately it's the most important time to be playing your best.
Football it starts After. Thanksgiving that's what we all used
to say in our. Building the real football season starts After.
(22:43):
Thanksgiving you have to put yourself in position to be
able to compete after that. Time but the real football starts,
now and there are real football teams.
Speaker 4 (22:51):
STILL i don't care what anyone.
Speaker 3 (22:52):
Says you, know you guys In New, england.
Speaker 1 (22:56):
You And gronk were the offense in a solid run,
game AND i could argue that's What buffalo. Is the
difference is your defenses were great And buffalo's has gone
into the. TANK i do think they could use another deep,
threat but in Fairness December, january deep threats often disappear
In buffalo Or New england because of the.
Speaker 3 (23:14):
Weather so WHEN i Watched buffalo.
Speaker 1 (23:16):
Last, night my biggest issue Is josh is forcing, stuff
so the turnovers are. Spiking they never did With tom
and the defense JUST i mean Even houston ran on.
Speaker 3 (23:26):
Him houston has no run.
Speaker 1 (23:27):
GAME i Thought houston looked like they were deeper and
more physical and had more good.
Speaker 3 (23:33):
Players do you.
Speaker 1 (23:36):
Think a lack of a deep threat is the issue
when you Watch? Buffalo they've now lost The, Pennix tua
And Davis. Mills what is the problem you see With?
Buffalo because it's not.
Speaker 5 (23:45):
Quarterback it's not, quarterback AND i think it's a multiple of.
THINGS i think it has to do with the lack
of winning outside the, numbers the deep, threat THAT x
receiver they really relied on the cole and kid who's
really disappointed. THEM i, mean you know they spent a
second round draft pick on them last year or was
(24:06):
he a first a second regardless a high round draft
pick that they needed him to play well for their
team to. Work AND i also think it's got to
do it their. DEFENSE i, mean that's not sustainable defense
when you can't stop the.
Speaker 4 (24:22):
Run if you force.
Speaker 5 (24:23):
The bills to play the way they don't want to
play from, ahead making other offenses one dimensional where they
have to throw the. Ball they're decent against the, pass
that's what their defense is designed to, do but they
can't get there right. Now SO i think it's gonna
be tough, because like you, said whenever we were struggling
(24:44):
on offense or or some of these teams that have
had the older or the quarterback only team or, whatever
The Ben, roethlisberg you could always rely on our defense
or our special teams to make. Play they got a big,
team they got a big play from their special teams,
last but their defense is just not. There SO i
think it's a multiple. THINGS i think it's a lack
(25:04):
of deep, threat which you, know it's very disappointing that
This coleman kid is doing what he's, Doing LIKE i.
CAN'T i can't emphasize that a much. Enough when a
team is relying on you and you, go and especially
a team like The Buffalo bills and for whatever, reason
he's got added tude, problems like that's a cancer that
(25:27):
they are relying on him and then the. Defense SO
i think it they're a complimentary football team when they
got one thing not going because of how they spend
their money as the, team it's not gonna.
Speaker 4 (25:39):
Work SO i think it's a couple of.
Speaker 1 (25:41):
Things So Caleb, Williams Drake may And bownicks are winning
a lot of. Games they also Have Ben, Johnson Mike,
Rabel Sean. Pateon they have really good. Coaches that, said
you have good sources In New. England aren't they even
surprised how Good Drake may. Is they still don't have
(26:02):
a number one, receiver they don't have a dominant tight.
End it's a good old, line it's not a GREAT o.
Line do you think they're surprised by how efficient he.
Speaker 5 (26:11):
Is i've talked to a lot of people in, there
AND i wouldn't say they're. SURPRISED i would just say
that they were excited from from day.
Speaker 4 (26:24):
One you.
Speaker 5 (26:25):
Know talking to one of my main guys, there he kept, saying,
like you, know this kid retains. Information he doesn't make
the same mistakes he processes and that's WHAT i heard a,
lot AND i didn't see it last year at, all
But i've been seeing it this year throughout the whole.
Season one thing he needs to do is he needs
(26:47):
to stop taking, hits and and that's gonna come with
more time on task in this, offense because you see
him in his empty, personnel like his empty. Situations whenever
he's an empty he looks at his first three and
then he ends up taking off and, going and he
tells me he doesn't know the nuances of the, offense
which means he has a lot more room to, grow
which is going to be scary once he gets that
empty package, going because they're really good with the play.
(27:09):
Action they got a run game, going and he's got
those athletic. Plays but the one constant THING i heard
from everyone great, attitude loves to, learn natural, leader and can.
Process SO i never heard, surprised BUT i heard excited a.
Speaker 3 (27:28):
LOT i don't think you.
Speaker 1 (27:31):
Can you can't fool pro, athletes AND i mean, Listen
New england had high draft picks and a lot of
them on. Offense could not play everybody make EVERY gm
misses on draft.
Speaker 4 (27:42):
Picks it's.
Speaker 1 (27:42):
Hard AND i WATCHED jj, McCarthy AND i think to,
myself everybody in the room knows it's a, problem but he's.
ALL jj McCarthy's a kid that loses his confidence on
the field pretty. Quickly so the last thing you want
to do is press. Him what do you? DO i,
mean what what do you think it's like to BE jj. McCarthy,
(28:05):
NOW i mean you had a nice slow growth because
you were not a first round. Player when you're a
first round pick and they give up, picks is there
not more pressure to perform.
Speaker 5 (28:13):
Immediately there's a lot of pressure for everyone in the locker,
room and they all have their own different forms of.
Pressure guys that are trying to create a, Role guys
that are trying to be a, superstar guys that are
trying to be A hall Of, famer guys that are
trying to make the. Team so pressure is for. Everyone WITH,
jj they got to just deal with. This this is
what they. Picked you Had Sam darnold in the building
(28:36):
last year for probably a competitive number where they could
have kept him around for a year and let this kid,
develop but they didn't decide to do. That they decided
to go WITH jj. McCarthy so these are the growing
pains you have to go through with the young quarterback
who only has six starts in HIS nfl. Career you,
know it's just he's on a team that's probably a
quarterback away from being a really good playoff. Team so
(29:00):
that's the only. Difference usually you see these first round
draft picks they come in or these very top overall,
picks and they're going into an ecosystem that has a losing,
environment a losing. Team. Uh and that hasn't been the
case FOR. Jj he went to a team that's pretty
much ready to. Go let's go right. Now SO i
think they just got to deal with, this and they
(29:21):
gotta they gotta be able because the only people that
really know are the people in that, building because there's
little things and nuances That kevin O'Connell's TEACHING jj McCarthy
that none of us outside of that building. Know and
if he's seeing progression, weekly then that's what he's going
to have to deal.
Speaker 4 (29:40):
With and he's seeing the.
Speaker 5 (29:41):
Growth that doesn't mean we don't we can see it
because there could be things that we don't know what
they're coaching on in.
Speaker 4 (29:47):
There so they have they have to deal with.
Speaker 5 (29:50):
This. Uh this is the hand they, chose and, look
he's in a sixth game of his. Career this is
not an easy thing to pick, up especially in the
hardest position in pro. Sport so he's got to, learn
and he's got to learn fast because the games are
only going to get harder as the season.
Speaker 1 (30:08):
Goes one more, question And i've asked you this. Before
this is about the time Your patriot teams took. Off
explain to people Late november, Football december. Football how Did
belichick address? It because you dominated the league for twenty?
Years did the discussions, change did the preparation? Change did
(30:29):
the game plans? Change as it gets cold and? Windy
by the, way rosters now are depleted due to. Injuries everybody's,
missing top, Guys how does football change this?
Speaker 3 (30:40):
Weekend and on.
Speaker 5 (30:42):
Well this, weekend there's a light at the end of the,
tunnel or going forward After, thanksgiving there's a light at
the end of the. Tunnel everyone knows about the, seedings
everyone knows who's in, it everyone knows who's not in.
It so the urgency level in the building goes through the.
Roof begin part of the seasons about learning what this team.
(31:02):
Is the middle part of this season is about executing
and trying to get this, sea this team ready for
the last part of the, season which is the real
part of the season where you put yourself in contention
to play your best. Football we always talked about playing
your best football at the end of the, season and
a lot of it had to do with, health like
you you, mentioned and also you know the teams knowing
(31:26):
what they, are their, identity and then this is the
time where, hey we know what we're good, at we
know what we're bad, at we know where we're. Vulnerable
how do we make our team go, out make the
least amount of, mistakes have the best week of practice
with the highest, urgency and let these guys know that
(31:46):
this this doesn't come around a, lot so you have
to play your best. Football that's that's what it. Was
it was just urgency. Preparation it took a little more
time to take care of your. Body like you, said
a lot of guys are banged. Up but you, know
this is the best time of the year because there's
a light at the end of the. Tunnel it ain't a.
Train those are the that's the, playoffs they're coming and
(32:10):
this is when you start to get that Second, Joel
you know those the middle of the, season you're banged.
Up first part of the, season you're you're excited because football,
started and then you get beat up and you're trying
to get the ankle right or the oblique ride or
your shoulder.
Speaker 4 (32:26):
Right and Then.
Speaker 5 (32:29):
Thanksgiving hits and you get like a, shot you get
a shot of adrenaline because you, know this is important football.
Time so if you like football and you like to,
compete you're in the right business because this time of
the year is what that is.
Speaker 1 (32:44):
About his Podcast games With, names new episode Every, Tuesday
FOX nfl kickoff on A. Friday Julian edelman as always my.
Speaker 4 (32:52):
