Speaker 2 (00:21):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
Here we go, one down, two to go. We are
rolling Matt Hasselbeck around the corner. Lincoln Riley stops by
USC Oregon at dots and that's gonna be one of
the games of the year in college football. Wherever you
may be and however you may be listening, Thank Fazolas
for joining us. All right, it's starting to sort itself out.

(00:51):
We don't want to waste any time here. We do
it every Monday. Where Colin was right, where Colin was wrong,
and let's strip it where Colin was right. Well, I
picked Denver to win the AFC West. I said Kansas
City would be good, but a wildcard team. And you know,
I love bon Knicks, and I thought yesterday, especially on

(01:12):
that last drive, boon Knicks looked like the veteran quarterback.
I just think Denver's got a better roster right now.
I didn't think that two years ago. But Chris Jones
is not playing at the level he was a couple
of years ago, So I was right on that. I
didn't think it was a controversial take when I said
Denver's going to win this division and Kansas City will finish.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
Second, where Colin was wrong.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
But I've been higher on the Chiefs than almost everybody
else at this network because Andy and Brett Veach and
Patrick Mahomes, the three teams they're battling for a wild
card spot, have all beaten them, The Chargers, the Jags,
and the Bills, and they're oer in five and one
score games, and I just don't think their defense feels
is intimidating. And I think Patrick Mahomes is still remarkable.

(01:57):
That's not a very good pick. And I think in
the last couple of years it's feels like Josh Allen's
more dynamic. So I've been a little higher on Kansas City,
maybe because I've seen them turn it around and had
sluggish two or three game spots, But I don't think they're.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
In a good spot right now. Where Colin was right.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
I said week one, I said Ben Johnson's the right coach.
You can talk about Caleb, but what I see from
Ben Johnson, I see what I saw in Detroit.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
He's going to clean it up.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
The Bears are five and one in one score games,
and I don't think what I said as a revelation,
but it became very crystal clear by week two, three
and four that the identity of the team was not
going to beat Caleb. It was going to be Ben Johnson, precision,
a run game, and an interior old line that they

(02:48):
bought in the offseason. I've also always said young quarterbacks
are better with young offensive coaches. Once again, Lafleur with
Jordan Love helped McVay with a young golf help. Ben
Johnson with Caleb has become crucial where Colin was wrong.

(03:09):
Maybe I'm a little tough on brock Party. I thought
he was great yesterday, having not played for a couple
of months. He and George Kittle are money together when
they connect. Kittle and brock Purty have a one forty
one career passer rating yesterday, three touchdowns accurate. They're able

(03:30):
to move the pocket, good in the red zone. Listen,
he adds mobility. I'm kind of tough on him, but
I thought yesterday he kind of blew me away.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
Where Colin was right.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
The one quarterback in the twenty twenty four class I
was skeptical of with JJ McCarthy, and I kept saying,
what's the wow trade, folks. He's got a sixty two
passer rating that's the worst of any starter in the league.
And Justin Jefferson is disappearing slowly and his body language
is telling you he's not taken it well. I just
think trust your eyes. Does a quarterback feel a little overwhelmed?

(04:05):
His body language, his feet. I think he's got a
good enough arm. I think he moves well enough. But
his misses are confidence misses, and I think that tells
you right now he's not sure of JJ McCarthy, and
he was the one quarterback I just didn't get.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
And so far I'm right where Colin was wrong.

Speaker 1 (04:28):
I didn't think Brent Venables was the best pick in Oklahoma,
and I didn't think Oklahoma would be that great in
the SEC. I was wrong on both counts. They have
allowed the fewest points in the SEC. It's the mess
defense in the conference. Venables has created an identity. He
went and found a great quarterback. But I mean they've
beaten Bama back to back years and were the better

(04:51):
team and forced them into uncharacteristic mistakes.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
So you know what, I.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
Thought Texas would be the better of the two. Well,
big twelve teams going to the SEC. But I don't
know what Texas's identity is. I know what Oklahoma's is.
They are physical, they are tough. They got a little
bit of a Georgia field to him. And I was
wrong where Colin was right. I did not like Detroit
when Ben Johnson left, hiring somebody in the building. Make

(05:20):
it a global search. Well, the Lions defense. In three
of Detroit's losses, they've scored thirteen, seventeen, and nine points.
I'm sorry with that offensive line and those backs and
those receivers.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
That's not good enough.

Speaker 1 (05:33):
They're down in third down percentage, rushing, passing yards per play.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
They're not even good on fourth down.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
Right now, I think when you lose an elite coach
or a coordinator, don't just look inside the building. You
gotta go open your eyes up to every candidate in
the country.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
I think I was right on that.

Speaker 1 (05:53):
With Detroit, where Colin was right. I had said multiple
times this year. I had heard that Brian Kelly just
didn't want to grind anymore, and he may have taken
that LSU.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
Job for the money.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
What do you know, Bruce Feldman reporting he cashed out,
spent more time golfing than around the building. I had
two people tell me in the last calendar year that
you know what, it happens, You get into your sixties
and you kind of lose the drive, and he didn't
really have it. That was an opportunity to make some money.

(06:27):
He's been a great coach. I don't necessarily hold it
against him. I hope it doesn't happen to me. But
what I had heard from two people I trust turned
out to be true, and Bruce Feldman's reporting doubled down
on that.

Speaker 2 (06:40):

Speaker 2 (07:55):
Heard Hierarchy Time is now not go the top ten
NFL according to College Number ten.

Speaker 1 (08:02):
I think arguably the most talented athletic team in the
league is Seattle, and I'll put them at ten because
they have the most giveaways in the league. But they
were going for a game winning kick against the Rams
in LA and they had four picks. They have the
best point differential in the NFC. They don't have a
real gap in their team other than the giveaways. JSN
is the highest gradded receiver according to PFF. They've allowed

(08:25):
the fewest sacks on offense. They got playmakers everywhere on
both sides of the ball. They can run it with power,
so if they get a lead, they can close out
the clock. They make too many mistakes, but they are
a great number ten team that was going for a
winning kick against the Rams on a day on the road.
They had four picks. Number ten Seattle, Number nine again

(08:46):
Kansas City.

Speaker 2 (08:47):
I like them.

Speaker 1 (08:48):
They have the second most efficient scoring offense behind the
Colton Pro Football.

Speaker 2 (08:52):
They're not good on the road.

Speaker 1 (08:54):
They have struggled on the road because they're just not
talented enough. Now that Chris Jones is not playing in
an elite level, the defense isn't as intimidating. They're really
good and they've got a good coach. I don't think
Mahomes right now is playing like Josh Allen. But again,
I like their weapons. I like their team. If they
beat Indy, I think they're a playoff team. I think
this weekend's a big deal. I'm a little surprised they're

(09:17):
a three point favorite. I guess the game's at home.
But I have Kansas City at nine.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
Number eight.

Speaker 1 (09:23):
My coaching staff of the year in the NFL is
San Francisco. I don't know how Robert sala is doing it.
By the way, they're seven to zero when they hold
their opponents under twenty five. But Brock Purty, George Kittle,
Christian McCaffrey, Jennings, here comes Ricky pearsall the bands back together,
and the old line has been better than I've given
it credit for. Again, they're a little Christian McCaffrey dependent.

(09:47):
Leads in yards, leads in carries, leads in catches.

Speaker 2 (09:51):
But they're now healthy.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
They're dangerous, and I think their coaching staff has been
doing it with smoking mirrors and now they've got like
elite player.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
Back number seven Buffalo.

Speaker 1 (10:03):
Yeah, they drive me crazy, but I will say this,
they lead the NFL in offensive touchdowns and they average
six point three yards of play, which is second in
the NFL. And I think that matters a lot. Josh
Allen is playing at another level. Again, like San Francisco,
they can be one player dominant on offense. Don't trust

(10:23):
their defense. But I really believe in all the years
I've been new and hurt hierarchy, the difference between Seattle
and the number one team is about four points.

Speaker 2 (10:31):
I'll put them at seven number six.

Speaker 1 (10:34):
I think the Colts would beat him if they played,
probably in Indy, maybe not in Buffalo, but against the
number one scoring offense, only team in the league scoring
on over fifty percent of their drives. They have the
fewest punts in the NFL. They're off a by I
think Kansas City's gonna have their hands full.

Speaker 2 (10:51):
I buy them. Now.

Speaker 1 (10:52):
Do I think Daniel Jones presents a ceiling. Absolutely. We're
not in January today right now to top six roster
in the NFL. And I said it last year, and
I've said this about Cleveland. If you gave Cleveland a
really good coach, go look at Cleveland's roster.

Speaker 5 (11:09):
They got dudes.

Speaker 2 (11:10):
They got a lot of dudes.

Speaker 1 (11:12):
Indies roster is the elite and now they're getting competent
plus quarterback play. Number five the Ravens when Lamar plays
their average in twenty nine a game four game winning
streak since the week seven. By listen, their defense now
is healthy and playing better. They have playmakers on both sides. Again,
this hurd hierarchy, we're doing it. It's November, it's not January.

(11:33):
Do I trust them?

Speaker 6 (11:34):
Then?

Speaker 2 (11:34):
Know their next three.

Speaker 1 (11:36):
Games Jets, Bengals, Steelers, so the winning streak is going
to continue. Don't take too much out of a close
game against Cleveland Number one. Cleveland's defense at home is outrageous,
and it was a third straight road game.

Speaker 2 (11:48):
I like this team a lot. Baltimore five, number four, but.

Speaker 1 (11:51):
I think in a neutral field, I take the Patriots,
the only undefeated team on the road, three and one
against winning teams, an incredibly efficient team. Their defense in
nine straight games has held people to twenty three points.
Are under Vrabel deserves credit. He went and spent almost
three hundred million dollars in free agency, but he's spent
it on character guys, defense, tough guys.

Speaker 2 (12:13):
In physicality. They have an identity.

Speaker 1 (12:16):
They're a tough, physical team where a quarterback that's completing
seventy two percent of his throw efficiency wins post Thanksgiving
New England.

Speaker 2 (12:25):
Four number three. I don't know what to do with Philly.

Speaker 1 (12:28):
They're not good with Lane Johnson's out, but they are
twenty four and three in their last twenty seven games,
and they're just dynamite in one score games. What are
you gonna say. Here's the thing that I like about them.
They have the best interior D line in the league,
and it made a huge difference again this weekend against Detroit.
You can't get fourth and one on them. They bat
down passes constantly. Opposing quarterbacks in the NFL complete fifty

(12:52):
six percent of their throws against Philadelphia, and it's because
they got good corners, active linebackers, and two duds on the.

Speaker 2 (13:00):
Interior D line. Number two Denver, And.

Speaker 1 (13:04):
Again, what's the difference between Seattle and Denver if they
played tomorrow a point and a half. That's how close
this thing is. Listen, six of their seven games have
been decided like the Kansas City game on a drive.
Their offense has been held the one touchdown in back
to back games. But I do believe, and I said
it last year with Kansas City.

Speaker 2 (13:24):
There is.

Speaker 1 (13:26):
There are teams that are good in close games. Kansas
City last year was great and close game. Denver this
year is great and close games. I don't think it's
like fumbles that it's random. It usually comes down to
an elite play designer and play caller and a quarterback
who's good late in games on final drive. That was
Mahomes last year, that's Bonix this year. But they are
a heavily penalized team, so they beat themselves. They've got almost,

(13:49):
you know, nine hundred penalty yards and they've trailed in
all eleven games.

Speaker 2 (13:53):
But you are what your record is. They're two number on.
The Rams are the.

Speaker 1 (13:58):
Cleanest team in the league, second year in a row,
fewest penalties, They don't make any mistakes. They're Seattle without
the mistakes. They're Denver without the penalties. So I'm really
rewarding them. I don't think they're the most dynamic offense,
although I will say Devonte Adams is on a heater.
He is on a heater. He has become the touchdown guy,

(14:18):
not Puka. So I do think there is value in
the Rams not being as flashy or as a dynamic
as other teams. They don't get penalized. They don't turn
it over. You can't get the twenty seven points on them.
You can't get the twenty four points on him. That's
my top ten. And I think the difference between one
and eight, nine and ten is about four points.

Speaker 2 (14:42):
And that's about it.

Speaker 1 (14:43):
I think it's really I got green Bay at eleven.
I mean it's I think green Bay struggling with our identity.
I have the Bears at twelve, green Bay at eleven.
Coin flip that they played tomorrow home team would win.

Speaker 2 (14:56):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and noon Easter im Pacific.

Speaker 1 (15:02):
Fifteen years with the Giants, two times Super Bowl champ.
Phil Simms does some college stuff with the Believe Network
as well. Oh guy Phil Simms, Okay, I saw this story.

Speaker 5 (15:14):
Oh.

Speaker 1 (15:15):
Derek Gunn is a longtime reporter in Philadelphia, and he
was on the seth Joiner Show. And I was told
during the summer by an executive in the NFL who
I trust topped about him. He said, Jalen Hurts is
kind of beach to his own drummer. It's not Russell
Wilson Seahawks, but he's his own guy. He's not raw

(15:36):
raw go out beers after the game with the fellas.
He's not that guy. And there was a story Derek
Gunn reports this week is that he you know, he kind.

Speaker 2 (15:44):
Of runs the offense.

Speaker 1 (15:45):
He feels like running, and sometimes he frustrates coaches. And
so between what I heard in that he was just
saying is you know, there's some discomfort with Hurts. So
here's my question to you. Do you have to be
Brady chugging beers with a rookie? Do you have to
be Mahomes where everybody loves him or Peyton Manning would
go out to dinner with teammates.

Speaker 2 (16:05):
To pick up the bill.

Speaker 1 (16:06):
Do you have to be popular to be a successful.

Speaker 2 (16:09):
Long term quarterback? No, of course you don't.

Speaker 7 (16:13):
But it does help if you are popular and you
do certain things and blend in with the football team.
You know, and I know Jalen Hurts has taken a
lot of heat for being successful right now in the NFL.
And you know, two yes, is he a conservative player
without question, doesn't like to throw it over the middle,
doesn't want to throw into tight coverage and make those

(16:34):
type of throws. But also he's very careful and listen,
when you've got a defense like the Philadelphia Eagles. It's
not the worst thing that your offense is being very
careful not to turn the football over. It's a winning
formula for many teams. I kind of played that way.
I didn't mean to play that way, but it worked
out that way. When you got a good defense, why

(16:56):
are you out there trying to show everybody you can.

Speaker 5 (16:59):
Score thirty and forty points?

Speaker 7 (17:00):
And you know, I think we saw something from Dalen
Hurts last year. This same thing was going on, and
then what happens. He goes to the Super Bowl and
all of a sudden he becomes man, he becomes Tom
Brady and the Super Bowl wins the MVP.

Speaker 1 (17:14):
So you had a year back in the eighties, you
won a Super Bowl and through twenty two picks. I
have always defended interception quarterbacks. I defend Elway, I defended
Andrew Luck, Peyton Manning. Aaron Rodgers was one of the
first quarterbacks in my life that you got all the
upside and no picks. That thing used to I mean,
at the bottom line is throw the ball down the

(17:35):
damn field.

Speaker 2 (17:35):
I don't like dink and dunk guys.

Speaker 1 (17:37):
So Darnald has Donald has nine games three plus picks.
Andrew Luck had nine games three or plus picks. It
doesn't he may never He's not as good as Luck.
He may never win a Super Bowl. But I like
the fact that Sam tows a horrible pick and it
doesn't bother him at all. Where are you on interceptions,

(17:58):
quarterbacks bouncing off mistakes because Darnald had a stinker, but
Andrew Luck had ten stinkers.

Speaker 7 (18:05):
Yeah, it's a lot there. You know, I'll say this
right off the stuff. You know, I never had the
Giants in those years when we were really win the games.
They never said, you know, feel you got to be
a little more careful. You know, Parcelles was not that
kind of guy. He would not get too angry. I mean,
sometimes you get angry because I throw an interception. Go, well,
that might be the dumbest playof've ever made in my career.

(18:26):
But otherwise what you said is true, man, throw it
down the field. We want big plays. Big plays win games.
And then if I started checking it down too much,
he goes. He would yell at me and go, oh,
what are you worried? Sims about your completion percentage? And
you know, just go, hey, I'm just trying to move
us down the field and score right right. So yeah,
and Sam Darnald, I would just say this, we know

(18:49):
what happened in the last two games last year with him,
and then they's playing the game, he's playing against the
Rams and all that. Sometimes as a quarterback, you're only
you're first and you try to do this is I'm
not going to make that mistake today. Play it careful.
If the game is close, you're playing a really good team,
that's all right.

Speaker 5 (19:08):
When the time comes.

Speaker 7 (19:09):
There's going to be a big play in the game
where it's going to be easy for you to make.
And when you do that, it changes the narrative everywhere.

Speaker 5 (19:18):
But I got to tell you.

Speaker 7 (19:19):
Some of those interceptions that Sam Darnold through last week, Wow,
that's all I can say.

Speaker 5 (19:24):
Wow. You know you've got to pull it back. Sometimes
you just can't.

Speaker 7 (19:29):
You can't swing for the damn fences every time the
balls pitched to you.

Speaker 5 (19:33):
And that's kind of what Sam Darnald. He did it.

Speaker 7 (19:35):
I was really surprised, but I was also really surprised
about the type of interceptions they were.

Speaker 1 (19:42):
So I used to believe that you got to give
a quarterback three years, but now they have private coaching
seven on seven summer drills. Kids throw ten thousand passes
by the time they're fourteen. So my take is not
three years. It is Thanksgiving of year two GM coach
coordinator go upstair, raise their hands. Do we draft again
or not? Do we extend eventually? So I have shortened

(20:05):
the timeline up. So I mean Josh Rosen got thirteen starts,
Johnny Manziel got seven or eight? What do you do
with JJ McCarthy. This is a good tool belt, Phil
Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, Kevin O'Connell, great left tackle, Like
this is not you know, this is not a bad franchise.
This is not what Caleb got last year in Chicago.

(20:27):
How long do you give JJ McCarthy before you go upstairs?
Just sit in a room and raise your hand and say, guys,
we gotta go in another direction.

Speaker 7 (20:35):
Well, you know he's going to get the rest of
the year. I watched that game this past weekend. I thought, Man,
if they had like a quality veteran backup, I think
they would have brought him in there. You know, JJ McCarthy.
You know, look, there's some things he does well. He
moves around well, he's got a strong arm, but he's
got one pitch, and that one pitch is I'm gonna
throw the damn thing as hard as I can. And

(20:55):
it doesn't matter if you're ten yards of twenty or
forty yards. I mean, he's a I think deep down
the field, you see it. He's a pretty good thrower.
But in the NFL, the game has really played from
let's just say the line of scrimmage, the fifteen yards
down the field, and you've got to be a machine
hitting those plays, and I haven't seen that from JJ
McCarthy and a lot of it. There's many things. I

(21:16):
think there are technique problems. I see people talking about
it all the time. Will tell me what it really
is and they can't do that. But it's the you've
got to hit all those routine throws, and that's one
of the biggest things I think hurts him and hurts
the football team right now.

Speaker 5 (21:34):
And I'll give credit to the receivers. They're very good.

Speaker 7 (21:36):
They're successful, and they're kind of biting their tongue and
they're not getting on the quarterback yet. But man, he's
got to pick up the way he plays. He's got
to become more accurate throwing the football.

Speaker 1 (21:46):
Okay, I want to ask you two questions because you
do college football stuff, and I'll get to Mendoz in
a second. I want to start with Shadora Sanders. I
thought he was a at worst mid to late second
round guy. The people I trusted in the NFL said, yeah,
I mean he's mid second. They liked him as much
as Jackson Dart some more and he drops the fifth.

(22:09):
I then heard about him basically blowing the giant interview bad,
the legendary stuff all over his draft room, the speeding tickets.
Obviously some maturity issues there that I didn't know about.
He starts this weekend. Were you when you were doing
your college stuff the last few years, were you a
shedoer fan? Or did he run backwards too much? You

(22:32):
know there were signs he could be impatient. Where were
you on him coming out of college?

Speaker 7 (22:39):
Well, you know, listen the fact that I don't look
at their stats and say, oh, he ran around too much.
Those are things you can really correct and very short time.
I did like him in college. Look, he looks to
me he plays really big on the field, as he
takes too many sacks and try to extend plays. Absolutely,
he did it last week when he came.

Speaker 5 (22:58):
In the game. He did it.

Speaker 7 (23:00):
He did it in college. But what there's many things here.
I think he'll play. Of course, I think everybody thinks
he'll play really well against the Raiders. The Raiders the
defense not that good. Kevin Stefanski when I watched him
over the years, go back to when Joe Flackel took
the team to the playoffs and all that they had
one of the best, if not the best, deep throwing

(23:22):
offense in the NFL. So many good designs as Stefanski's
really good at and you know what that fits shoulder.
He's another guy he would rather. He's good throwing the
ball deep down the field. He's a good short thrower.
But it's the in betweens that you worry about. And
I would be shocked, and I said this to somebody
working with you. I just said, if he's I believe

(23:44):
when they start the game this weekend, he'll be about
eight for ten out of the first ten throws because
they're going to give him screens, make sure it's easy,
get him involved in the game, and then as time
goes on, they'll open it up and give him and
do what he's probably best at, and that's get him
a little more protection and throwing the football deep down
the field.

Speaker 5 (24:02):
I don't know if I answered you question, that's what
I think.

Speaker 1 (24:05):
Yeah, No, Fernanda Mendoza played at Cold. The kid is
is supposed to be an unbelievable student. Yes, and at
Indiana and Cow. He's not playing with five star bam
Ohio State guys. That's not what he's playing with. I
like that, by the way. I like college guys who
come out of Cow and see state yourself, smaller schools.

(24:28):
You know, it's not it's not Georgia talent. It's like
middling talents that you got to throw open. I think
he separated himself in that Penn State drives. I watched
that drive and I thought, on the road, big pass rush,
Penn State's got elite defensive players, and right in the
teeth of it, he just threw Sunday throw, Sunday throw,

(24:49):
Sunday throw. I see potentially a really high end college kid.

Speaker 2 (24:56):
What do you see?

Speaker 7 (24:58):
I see it really high in college kid, big time,
and I mean, if you're phrasing about the pros, I
think he'll be a very successful quarterback in the pros.

Speaker 5 (25:07):
I mean, he's tall.

Speaker 7 (25:08):
I did their game against Iowa, probably the worst game
of the year for him.

Speaker 5 (25:12):
But I didn't come away with it going, oh my gosh,
he played bad.

Speaker 7 (25:15):
In fact, I came away and I said, all the
talents that you want to see in the NFL he.

Speaker 5 (25:18):
Showed you on that field. He just makes great throws.

Speaker 7 (25:22):
He's got a very compact motion, spends the ball, can
really drive it, and he's tough as hell.

Speaker 5 (25:27):
And the other thing that really I like.

Speaker 7 (25:30):
I like these college quarterbacks that are you playing somewhat
of a pro offense.

Speaker 5 (25:35):
Yeah, I look at you, I.

Speaker 7 (25:36):
Look at Indiana and man, they do the same damn
thing every week, and they might put a little dressing
to it sometimes. But I like everything about him. I
think some people worry, oh is it going to work?
Is he mobile enough?

Speaker 5 (25:50):
Hey?

Speaker 7 (25:50):
Man, When you're a quarterback like him who's been taught
so well and has the talent that he's going to
learn very quickly, Hey, the NFL is different, and I
think he'll be somewhat of an instant success, kind of
like Jackson Dart. Jackson Dart, I mean, he played Lane Kiffin.
It's got so many pro looks to it and all

(26:11):
the experience, all those years and all those throws. It
translates to the NFL very quickly. It's not like Caleb Williams.
Caleb Williams was always in charge and now he's playing better.
Why because Ben Johnson is stepping on him and the
offense Fitzi and of course he's learning and everything.

Speaker 5 (26:29):
So I do like Mendoza a lot. Colin. To answer
my question, what.

Speaker 1 (26:33):
You just said is exactly what a top offensive coach
told me this week off air. He told me he said,
Indiana runs so many he'll be an easy quarterback to evaluate.
They run so much pro stuff that it's very obvious.
You'll know very he goes. This coach said, I watched
him a couple of times on TV. You can see

(26:54):
they're running pro stuff. He'll be an easy evaluation. Even
Mahomes out of the Big twelve, nobody knew if some
of that stuff was gonna work. Or like Josh Allen
at Wyoming, you're like, that's bad competition. I've been told
now that he'll be an easy comp That's a lot
of Sunday stuff, and you just echoed it. So you're
seeing the same thing my guy was yeah.

Speaker 7 (27:16):
I you know, these college quarterbacks. When I'm bored, I
try to go through all these guys and just watch
them real quick and just seeing him in person and
talking to him. I mean, he's everything you want at
the professional level and being your quarterback.

Speaker 5 (27:29):
The guy you know.

Speaker 7 (27:30):
So you know it's hard on these young quarterbacks, which
like I've said before and probably said to you already,
and they we judge him too hard, too fast, and
you know, so we're seeing some of these guys in
the second year.

Speaker 5 (27:43):
Kayleb Williams, he's the greatest example of all.

Speaker 7 (27:46):
You know, he's coached differently, different offense and fitsing, and
you know, he's got pride and he's so he shows
that in the way he's playing, and it's I'm excited
just watching them, seeing Ben Johnson with him and how
they're doing it, and I know they're being tough on
him and he's he's taking it the right way and
it shows on the field as always. Philip's great seeing

(28:07):
you is that it well, it was twelve minutes. That's
how that's on my show. That's a big hit.

Speaker 1 (28:14):
It is.

Speaker 7 (28:14):
Okay, Hey, you know there's a couple of guys on
one one earlier bow Knicks. He's a man, okay, I
mean a man, and he does not even flinch what
he's playing the game there he is against Kansas City.

Speaker 5 (28:30):
He's looking for the kill shot.

Speaker 7 (28:32):
And of course he's coached by the guy that's right
with him and Davis Webbs there helping the quarterbacks. I mean,
that's just one these these young quarterback here a lot
of talk at all bone.

Speaker 5 (28:43):
Nicks, this and that.

Speaker 7 (28:44):
Yeah, he might not be at the top of his
game yet, but he's he's finding a way to get there,
and I really I love watching him play too.

Speaker 1 (28:50):
By the way, he is also aggressive. He's an aggressive
throw over the football.

Speaker 7 (28:55):
Absolutely, he's not checked down, Charlie, let's put it that way.

Speaker 5 (28:58):
And he did it against Kansas City.

Speaker 7 (29:01):
So you saw that he's willing to do the right
thing and take a chance and not worried about if
he's going to be the goad or the hero, which
is pretty cool.

Speaker 2 (29:10):
Good Senior, right, Good Senia, Thank you, Phil.

Speaker 5 (29:12):
Good seeing you. Thanks for having me on j Mac.
Keep working on those arms, man, they're looking good.

Speaker 1 (29:20):
Anytime j Matt gets a chance to do the.

Speaker 2 (29:23):
You know, the gun show.

Speaker 6 (29:26):
These are an all natural I'm not doing steroids.

Speaker 1 (29:28):
Yeah, I mean your shirts are all is a little
tighter than mine. That's okay.

Speaker 2 (29:31):
This medium is my favorite size. Be sure to catch
live editions of The Herd weekdays in noon Eastern nin
am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio FS one and the
iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 3 (29:44):

Speaker 2 (29:49):
But here's the thing.

Speaker 3 (29:50):
We never have enough time to get to everything we
want to get.

Speaker 4 (29:52):
To, and that's why we have a brand new podcast
called over Promised. You see, we're having so much fun
in our two hour show. We never get to everything, honestly,
because this guy is over promising things we never have
time for. Yeah, you blubber list lame me.

Speaker 3 (30:07):
Well, you know what it's called over promise. You should
be good at it because you've been over promising women
for years.

Speaker 4 (30:11):
Well, it's a Covino and Rich after show, and we
want you to be a part of it. We're gonna
be talking sports, of course, but we're also gonna talk
life and relationships. And if Rich and I are arguing
about something or we didn't have enough time, it will
continue on our after show called over Promised.

Speaker 3 (30:25):
Well, if you don't get enough Covino and Rich make
sure you check out over Promise and also uncensored by
the way, so maybe we'll go at it even a
little harder. It's gonna be the best after show podcast
of all time.

Speaker 4 (30:35):
There you go, over Promising, and remember you could see
it on YouTube, but definitely join us. Listen Over Promised
with Cavino and Rich on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcasts
or wherever you get your podcasts.

Speaker 2 (30:48):
Let's blaze it up up It's Collins Blazon, fuck vikingsid Packers.

Speaker 1 (30:54):
I'm gonna take Green Bay as a home favorite to
win and cover minus six and a half. This is
a about Jeff Hapley, green Bay's defensive coordinator. He has
built a very sound defense second fewest big plays surrendered
in the league, over at least one takeaway at least

(31:15):
one in five straight games. So this is about green
Bay at home, where everybody's defense is better at home
against JJ McCarthy, who I don't think in the face
of this defense play clean football. He's got multiple picks
in three or four starts. His completion percentage is under
fifty three percent this year. He is a quarterback that

(31:37):
needs to play with confidence and a lead. I don't
think he will. I'm gonna go with Jeff Hapley's defense
to create some offense. Packers win and cover. It's a lot.

Speaker 2 (31:51):
It's a division game. Twenty eight to twenty Steelers at Bears.
The up and down Steelers are gonna lose.

Speaker 1 (31:59):
I'm gonna say the Bears to win and cover minus
two and a half. Let's so, they've won seven of
their last eight games. Number two rushing offense. They don't
need big plays. Caleb does not throw a lot of picks,
and at home, he's a better quarterback at home. He's
only taken one sack in the last three games. In
his passer ratings mid nineties, he has been like a

(32:21):
lot of young quarterbacks. He's been better at home. The
Steelers Aaron Rodgers is banged up. They can't run the football,
and right now they've allowed twenty five plus points in
three of their four road games. So defenses, Cleveland's an example,
Pittsburgh an example, tend to be better at home. I'm
gonna take the Bears to win and the Bears to

(32:42):
cover twenty seven twenty one coltsit Chiefs. I like the
over fifty and a half it's the two most efficient
offenses in the NFL, and the Colts are off a bye,
so you know Shane Steichen's going to have some tricks.
No two teams have punted less in the NFL than

(33:03):
the Colts and the Chiefs. And the Colts and their
opponents are averaging four to fifty three a game.

Speaker 2 (33:09):
So I'm just going to take the over here.

Speaker 1 (33:10):
And their defense in back to back games is a
little banged up, is giving up over twenty five a game.
The Chiefs average twenty nine at home. Mahomes has played
much better at home, and Kansas City is desperate. Don't
be shocked if the Chiefs don't have their performance of
the year off that Denver loss. I'm taking the over.

(33:33):
I think it's a close game. Kansas City wins twenty
eight twenty four. Take the over fifty point five points.

Speaker 2 (33:40):
Seahawks at Titans. I never take huge favorites. I'm breaking
my rule.

Speaker 1 (33:46):
Seattle minus thirteen and a half at Tennessee. Tennessee's zero
to five at home.

Speaker 2 (33:52):
Six of their.

Speaker 1 (33:53):
Losses are by over ten Seattle out gained the Rams
by one hundred and sixty five points, out played them
the final three quarters almost won.

Speaker 2 (34:01):
With four picks.

Speaker 1 (34:03):
They're a great road team eleven and two because defense
and running games travel.

Speaker 2 (34:08):
Seattle does both well.

Speaker 1 (34:10):
Sam Darnol despite the picks, PFF has him ranked number two.
Tennessee's atrocious worst point differential in the league.

Speaker 2 (34:18):
They do nothing right.

Speaker 1 (34:19):
I think the locker room may be lost at this point.
I hate taking huge favorites. Seattle wins and covers thirty
one to thirteen.

Speaker 2 (34:32):
Panthers at forty nine ers.

Speaker 1 (34:34):
Okay, I'm gonna take Carolina plus seven. They've won three
straight on the road. Bryce Young is six and four
if you're not watching, and actually he's had back to
back games completing sixty eight percent of his throws. And
the Niners defense is a mess. It's all beat up.
Robert Salla is doing it with smoke and mirrors. They
are just depleted. And I'll tell you this, the Niners

(34:57):
are a weird team. Go look the last year, year
and a half how they've played after wins. Some of
their worst games have been after they win, and you
think they're gonna get momentum. The defense has the fewest
sacks in the NFL this year. So Bryce Young, who's
been on good on the road, playing with momentum, is
gonna have time to throw.

Speaker 2 (35:16):
I think it's close.

Speaker 1 (35:17):
I think San Francisco, probably at home, finds the way
to win. Also, the Niners, despite having Christian McCaffrey, are
not running the ball particularly well. Eight of their eleven
games under one hundred yards rushing. I'm gonna take seven points.
I think Carolina is one of those teams that people
aren't giving the credit to them because they've been so
bad and so dysfunctional. Carolina can go toe to toe.

(35:40):
Carolina won at Lambeau. Carolina plus seven number does not
make a lot of sense to me. I'm gonna take
the points. I think it's a game that goes to
the very end. I'll take the home team. There you go, Jamax,
anything you like or dislike, vehemently.

Speaker 6 (35:57):
Like the Seahawks, sort of like the Bears, sort of
like the Packers. I don't know about the Panthers column.
There is some, uh, there's some juice behind this Niners
offense right now. I don't think the Panthers can hold
him down. Yeah, I would lean Niners in that one,
But overall, hey, you're hot?

Speaker 2 (36:15):
What can I say?

Speaker 5 (36:15):
I mean?

Speaker 6 (36:16):
We did both go five and oh last week. Yeah,
I don't hate your picks. I'm surprised you didn't weigh
in on the Cheduur Bowl scheduur and against the Raiders.
