You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
Welcome back. Urban Myers getting into the College Football Hall
of Fame tonight in Las Vegas. Reportedly legally gamble there.
It's not a gamble. When we bring Joel klatt on,
he is fired up. I gotta tell you, I wouldn't
put Tu Lane or James Madison in.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (00:46):
But I'm you know, I'm an elitist. Other than that.
Other than that, I kind of liked it, you know,
Alabama people can argue.
Speaker 4 (00:56):
I normally try to defend the little guy, you know,
with you, and I try to not be the elitist.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
But I got to tell you, I think I'm.
Speaker 4 (01:04):
An elitist as well, because I don't there's no reason
for Tulane and Jmu to be in this thing. Here's
the truth, all right, call them. The truth is is
that the group of five or six whatever you want
to call it now. You know, as conferences have changed
around the only reason that they're included or have access
to this playoff is to avoid litigation. It's to avoid
(01:28):
an anti trust lawsuit. That's the only reason that they've
got access to this is because of the overlitigious nature
of what's going on in college football through the last
two decades. And it's not good for anybody. Listen, I
think that they should. I think it would be better
for that level of school, the mid majors, to go
play their own national championship. I think that would be amazing,
like the FCS does, and allow these teams to go
(01:50):
out there and crown a national champion. So I'm with
you on that. I just don't think it doesn't serve
anybody's purpose. I don't think it makes college football better.
I don't think it makes the play off better, And candidly,
it doesn't help those programs to go out there and
potentially get beat badly.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
What do you make of a Notre dame A little petty,
little whiny, I argued earlier. They don't want to commit
fully to a conference, they won't put a ring on it,
but they want the benefits of marriage and it's like, no,
Miami is a twenty one year member of the ACC.
Miami beat you had to head. Miami had the full
support of the ACC. The ACC is proposed a Notre
(02:27):
Dame several times and they won't say yes. So don't
be shocked if you don't get their full support, you're
not a full member. Yeah, no, I don't.
Speaker 4 (02:36):
I'd like that analogy. Here's what I would say is
that I think that Notre Dame is very emotional right now,
and they are responding out of emotion, and they're allowing
the kids in the room to kind of govern the boats.
And I don't love that. I think that leadership should
take over. I think Marcus Freeman is better than this.
(02:57):
I think Notre Dame is better than this. I think
that they look petty playing in a bowl game, and listen,
I understand that they're upset. I totally understand that. Because
here's the thing. Both of these things can be true.
I can tell you, Colin and believe that the committee
got it right by putting Miami over Notre Dame because
they played in Miami one. I can also say that
I think that this structure of playoff isn't the most
(03:19):
perfect thing I've ever seen, and that Notre Dame is
probably better than half the teams in the field. That's
also true. And what Notre Dame is upset at is
actually the weekly rankings. They're upset that they feel like
the rug was pulled out from under them, because if
we actually just would have seen this ranking at the
end of the year, without seeing any other ranking week
(03:39):
to week, we would have thought to ourselves like, yeah,
that kind of makes sense. We understand that head to
head has to be a thing. So they're upset at
the ESPN show, they're upset at the weekly rankings, they're
upset at the committee. And yet the fault in all
of this, it's not the committee's fault, Colin.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
The fault is the ACCC.
Speaker 4 (04:01):
And their horrid tie breaking system is what allowed a
five loss Duke team to go play for the ACC
championship and not a two loss Miami team, which was
ranked well eleventh in the country at the time. So
it's a tie breaking situation with the conference that you're
supposedly in bed with, even though not married. You know, listen,
like you said, but that's the problem with this whole thing,
(04:23):
because if Miami would have correctly been in the ACC
championship game and won that game, then Notre Dame would
have been in the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (04:30):
So the whole issue here is actually the way that
the ACC breaks their ties within their standings and the
fact that I believe that there should be a single
set of tie breaking criteria that every conference uses that
is standardized across college football.
Speaker 1 (04:46):
I was a little surprised that Indiana's defensive front bullied
the buck Eyes. I thought they I thought it would
be a good battle, but they kind of bullied them.
Ohio State couldn't run the ball. I mean, Kurt Signetti
is just done an unbelievable job. Mendoz's obviously he's going
to go number one in the draft. He just separated
himself between the Penn State game and the Buckeye game.
(05:09):
As you were doing the broadcast, did you feel this
is not a knock on Indiana? Did you feel because
they just beat Michigan, they're national champs, they're looking to
the playoff. Did you feel you got the full playbook
from Ohio State or did you think they were a
tad cautious going into the game.
Speaker 4 (05:28):
I don't think cautious is the right word, and in fact,
like I'll just give you not even my words, but
Kurt Signetti's words. During the week, when we were prepping
for the game and talking with the coaching staffs of
each team, Kurt Signetti told us, you know, he said, listen,
I really believe these three things are going to play
out on Saturday. And he said, Number one, we are
(05:49):
the more fresh team because we had a late buy. Meanwhile,
Ohio State's been on the run of playing six straight games,
so he says we're a more fresh team than Ohio State.
Number two is that we are not as distracted as
Ohio State. They've got an assistant that's going to be
a head coach, and Brian Hartline was going to South Florida.
They had these recruiting battles on Wednesday with the National
(06:10):
Signing Day, and he felt like his group would be
more focused than Ohio State. And then lastly, he said,
and we're hungrier than Ohio State. And I said, oh,
interesting in what way? And he said, because everyone's going
to tell them this week how great they are for
finally beating Michigan and our team all they're thinking about
is last year when we lost to Ohio State. In
the shoe and that sticks with us a little bit.
(06:33):
And he said those things, and call him those things
played out yep on Saturday night. He was right. Yeah,
to his credit, he was right. And I'm certain. I'm
certain that both of those teams are going to have
a lot of success in the playoff. I really, because
I think we saw the two best teams in the sport.
Speaker 1 (06:50):
Yeah, I do too. I don't know if Georgia, I'll
be honest, I don't know if Georgia can move the
ball much on Ohio State or Indiana. I'm not sure
they can't. I don't know if they can.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
I think the biggest revelation for the country on Saturday
night was actually, like, oh wait, Indiana's defense is also
elite and like you said, they did not get blocked
up front.
Speaker 1 (07:10):
Think about this, Dante Moore.
Speaker 4 (07:13):
And Julians saying have been virtually untouched this college football season,
the two quarterbacks at Oregon and Ohio State. And yet
between those two they were sacked eleven times by Indiana
this year. And if you go like they've been sacked
like twenty times total on the year, eleven of them
were Indiana. That speaks to what you were talking about
(07:35):
about being bullied up front by that defensive front seven.
That defensive line is slippery, they're active, they're very good,
and the secondary plays zone defense and they disguise their
coverage really well. So what Brian Haynes will talk about
the defensive coordinator is he just needs that quarterback to
pump the ball one time. He patched the ball one time,
(07:55):
and we're going to get home, and that's generally what happens.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
I like the nil I stated earlier. There's a lot
of reasons. One, I think it gives athletes they get
paid as they should. Football sport drives the revenue right. Secondly,
it gives them a little taste of money. It used
to be you're broke trying to find a twenty dollar
bill to buy pizza. Too rich. Now it's like you
got a little scratch, you got bank account to rich.
(08:23):
I think it's easier for the athlete. I like that
it's almost like a financial class for a year or
two before you go to the pros and get a
big fat contract, So I'd educates all the athletes. I
also like the fact that you told me it was
not you. But people say it's going to ruin college football,
the rich will get richer. I don't know Indiana Vana
(08:45):
one of the brain schools. Indiana's got a great best school.
Speaker 4 (08:49):
Yeah, Vandy brain school almost like really smart alumni bases
have done really well in there.
Speaker 1 (08:55):
Now they can donate for nil that's right. I mean again,
too late to a brain school. Well, Chulaine, what do
you know? It's you can buy some good players. Here's
the other thing. I don't think arch Manning, Ty Simpson
or Dante Moore are ready for the pros. I don't
think so either.
Speaker 4 (09:12):
I would agree with you that I think they all
need they all need another year. I agree, and in
particularly when you look at guys that have success in
the National Football League, they all play for a long
time in college.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
Yeah. What did you make of Fernando Mendoza. Do you
have a comp? Because I think he is number one
pick start day one, big, smart, grateful, humble, strong. I
mean he checks every box. Is there anything when you
watch them in that you're up close, you're on the sideline,
you're in the booth. What's his comp because boy, he
(09:43):
looks like I can't miss. Oh Man.
Speaker 4 (09:48):
Comps are always are so difficult for me because inevitably.
I think that they can feel like a knock or
they can feel way too high and you're putting too
much expectation on a player.
Speaker 1 (09:59):
I'm going to give you several though.
Speaker 4 (10:00):
There's different parts of his game and personality that remind
me of different players. So his personality, right, he's a
football nerd. He's very smart, he's very team oriented, loves
the game. In that respect, he reminds me a lot
when I talk with him, just personality wise, of Kirk Cousins.
That's what kind of the vibe I get from him.
On the field, He's got two different styles of play
(10:22):
he is. He's like a he's like a Jared Goff
that can move more in line with Herbert but not
quite as physically gifted as Herbert as a runner, but
he can run. So it's somewhere along those lines, you know.
And he's got a very quick release, he's accurate, he
can throw it down the field. I think he's absolutely
(10:44):
going to be the number one quarterback taken in next
year's draft. And candidly, those other players that you talked about,
I think Arch absolutely has to stand in college and
I would I would recommend to Ty Simpson and Dante
Moore to stay in college. And by the way, you
just touched on nil, Well, those guys might be first
rounders mid to late and I understand that that's a
big number that you can potentially make as a first
(11:06):
rounder in the National Football League, But they can make
multiple millions of dollars staying at Oregon and Alabama to
play quarterback. They can listen the market for a player
like that in college athletics. This, I know, this is crazy,
but is around three and a half million dollars. So
it's not like they have to go. Remember is this
(11:27):
is not like it used to be where it's like, well, listen,
I'm a first round player. I have to go because
this is generational money. They're already getting generational money right now.
And so you know, if I'm advocating for one way
or another on these players, I think Dante Moore should
absolutely stay in school, and I would suggest the same
to Ty Simpson at Alabama.
Speaker 1 (11:48):
Ohio State still might pick to win it all. Where
are you on it?
Speaker 4 (11:52):
Yeah, I think I would agree, And the reason would be,
like it's it's going to be very difficult to beat
them a second time, and I think that you're going
to have to go through Ohio State.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
That defense is good.
Speaker 4 (12:01):
And what we learned last year about Ryan Day and
this Buck guy's team is that they will properly evaluate
the weaknesses that show up or pop up during the
course of the year, like it did last year in
the Oregon game or in the Michigan game late in
the season, and they will fix those things for a
playoff run, which they were able to do in to
the tune of the National Championship well, very very specifically,
(12:22):
a problem occurred with Ohio State short yardage, run game
and red zone, and I believe that they'll address that
and now they're going to be better because of it
moving into the playoffs. So I think my favorite is
going to be Ohio State, but I won't be surprised
at all if we see those two teams again in
a National Championship.
Speaker 1 (12:40):
Miami is good enough on the defensive line and at
quarterback to beat Texas A and M do you think
they can go. I think Miami, you got to be
good at quarterback in the playoff because you're facing NFL
guys and you've got to be able to match up
physically up front, and the Hurricanes d line is legit.
Ban's a great edge rusher. I like Miami to upset
(13:01):
A and M. Where are you?
Speaker 4 (13:03):
I get a bit nervous about the A and M
pass rush getting to Beck and Beck you know, giving
a couple of turnovers away in that game, which he's
prone to do. And here's the other part is, yeah,
they beat Pitt on the road, but typically Mario has
really struggled now in the month of November, you know,
(13:25):
but in big games late in the season on the road,
and this environment is going to be as tough of
an environment as there is in college football, and Kyle
Field they will be going and so because of those factors,
I would lean A and M. But not wrong, Like
Miami has a team capable of going in there and winning.
I just think it's going to be really difficult to do.
Speaker 1 (13:46):
So well, enjoy the night. Urban Meyer is getting elected
into the College Football Hall of Fame. It's good to
see a buddy. You as well. Have a great day, dude,
All right, Yeah, I think I'll take the buck Eyes
to win it. And it's going to be interesting. What
if Indiana wins the NATI. Just what nobody's talking about
Texas Tech that they are the total dark cars. What
if they sneak in? But if Indiana won the Natty,
(14:09):
think about this and there's no question coach a plus
plus quarterback, a plus plus defensive front, elite NFL guys
three straight years. Michigan, Ohio State Indye. I predicted this.
I said, now, it's about how rich the nil is
about how rich are your graduates. Vandy's graduates, on average
(14:36):
make more money than any other SEC school, Michigan, Notre Dame,
top ten endowments, USC private school in LA a lot
of money. Phil Knight Oregon biggest booster in college sports.
So I said this. You know, Alabama's done a rich school.
(14:57):
LSU will spend a large percentage of it money. So
we'll ole miss. But you know Auburn's not a rich school.
Bama's not a rich school. George's got some money, Florida
does two. But college football now it's thirty five forty NFL,
and you know who's your in the NFL? Who's your owner?
(15:19):
If you got Stan Cronkey or if you got Robert Kraft,
Jeffrey Lewie, you're you're in a good space. Well it's
like now with the NIL, who your top five boosters.
So Michigan a lot of money. Now do they have
the right coach? I don't know. USC, Oregon a lot
(15:39):
of money, Ohio State a lot of money. If it
was not for Texas and Texas A and in the
in the massive Texas economy it is globally massive, SEC
would be falling off a cliff. Take out the Longhorns
and the Aggies right now. You start looking at the
SEC money, they'd be in trouble. Big ten would be
fine without Oregon or USC. But it's college football. Vandy's
(16:05):
going out signing five star quarterbacks. The average Vandy grad
New York Times at a study in twenty seventeen, the
household income is over two hundred thousand. That's like the average,
that's not the high end.

Speaker 3 (16:57):
No, no turn on the news.
Speaker 2 (17:00):
This is the Herd Line News.
Speaker 3 (17:03):
Let's go to your bears and the Roma Dunzay injury
last week should have opened the door for DJ Moore
to kind of go nuts against the Packers, but he
had one catch for negative four yards. I haven't started
him in fantasy for two weeks because you know, it
seems like something's a miss with DJ Moore and Caleb
Williams well. Ben Johnson admitted that wasn't the type of
(17:23):
performance he was expecting.
Speaker 5 (17:26):
He ran some pretty good routes over the course of
the day and we just couldn't give him the ball,
which that was not the intent. You know, I thought
going to the game we might have had more for
him than any other player in the offense, and so
was a little surprised at the end when I saw
the stat sheet for one catch, like he had.
Speaker 1 (17:44):
I will say this. So Caleb Williams is in year two, right,
it seems to me watching the Bears, and I don't
blame Kayla that his favorite targets are Colston Loveland and
Roma Dunzay. When he's healthy. That is not a knock.
But Moore is a veteran. Caleb's not. DJ Moore can
be a bit moody body language, he can I roll it.
(18:07):
I mean DJ Moore comes in, he's his body language
just knows great. He's the veteran. Caleb Williams wants to
own that locker room. Yeah, before, before Caleb got there,
the DJ Moore DJ was the star. Okay, the star
of the locker room is now Ben Johnson and Caleb
william What about common Unguy? Well he's been good, by
the way, But I mean, look at who is producing
(18:29):
common unguy, young guy, Colston Loveland, Roma Dunzay, Caleb Williams,
by the way, the right tackles young. So DJ Moore
to me feels like if I had to guess, this
is DJ Moore's last year, and I just I watch
his body language and I don't blame Caleb. Caleb's like, hey,
I got you got to pick roommates. Yeah, Roma Dunzay,
(18:51):
he's my guy, and Colston Loveland's my guy. Cole Comet,
more of a veteran, doesn't feel like and I don't.
I mean, quarterbacks have their favorite targets. I mean, you
knew with Brady Gronk Edelman on third down were the
primary targets. So I just my feeling that when I
watched DJ Moore is body lighting, which you get trustrated
Caleb can pick up on that. This is his last
(19:14):
year DJ in Chicago.
Speaker 3 (19:15):
Bears passing offense has struggled last four games. Now what
do you make You see that line seven and a half,
It was eight and a half Browns going to Chicago.
So before you render avert, it is only Tuesday. Keep
in mind this is a sandwich spot for the Bears
playing a team from the different conference Packers last week,
Packers next week at home. Very easy to look and
be like, oh, shadure, we got this and overlook this game.
(19:38):
There is some money coming in on the brownsh.
Speaker 1 (19:40):
I There's no question if you look at the last
four games, this one is the irrelevant one. Green Bay
is the biggest, Detroit the second biggest.
Speaker 3 (19:49):
I know Tony Pollard went nuts last week against his
run defense. But they're relief. I expect that they had
a lot of injuries. I think this is closer than
the experts think.
Speaker 1 (19:58):
Now. Shadura has a little bit of a recent history
of ugly picks, and the Bears played takeaway a lot.
Speaker 3 (20:03):
They do they do. I haven't bet it yet, but
I'm it would be browns or passed for me. Next up, Collin.
We got a little Dallas Cowboys action. I don't know
if you saw the social media tiff between mouthy George
Pickens and Richard Sherman. Uh, they'll calling it a Twitter
beef if you will. Sherman called Pickens uninterested and disengaged
against the Lions. I don't think he was wrong, and
(20:25):
then Pickets called him out in something he ended up
taking down that was a little out of pocket that
we won't read here anyway. Brian Schottenheimer talked about having
a conversation with Pickets.
Speaker 6 (20:38):
And his words, he goes, hey, shot, ye, I didn't
play my best game, and you know, I think that Unfortunately,
none of us, you know, played our best game, and
so that's real. But again, I don't worry about George
and his love for football and playing this game. And again,
you know, for five or six weeks, he was the
(20:58):
talk of the sport world. You know, look at George
Pickens and now again we didn't coach or play well
enough to win that game in Detroit. They beat us,
is what it is.
Speaker 3 (21:09):
Yeah, bad time for Pickens to not play his best game.
Speaker 1 (21:13):
You got what do you got here?
Speaker 3 (21:14):
Vikings and JJ McCarthy go to Dallas this week?
Speaker 1 (21:19):
Yeah, I think Dallas.
Speaker 3 (21:20):
Oh you like Dallas here?
Speaker 1 (21:21):
Huh off an ugly loss, extra time to prepare. Suddenly
everybody's telling Dallas, Oh, JJ's a real player. Watch the
Cowboys roll. By the way, Brian Flores Dack's a veteran,
He's seen every coverage. I like Pickins is going to rebound.
George Pickens is going to be focused, get in a
little heat. By the way, he wants to get a contract.
Speaker 3 (21:43):
Seee. Lamb coming back from the concussion. I think late
in the season, it's like concussion protocol, just forget it.
We need to back out there. That'll be interesting because.
Speaker 1 (21:50):
Lamb did now Boys extra time were humiliated defriends defensively.
Dallas has had a pretty prickly week of practice, they
got to gave up a lot of.
Speaker 3 (22:00):
Points giving out of your picks on Tuesday. All Right,
I say, Dallas, hey, I want that smoke. Okay, Dallas
covers final story. Let's go to that game again, but
from the Vikings point of view, and let's focus on
Justin Jefferson. Listen, some people I'm not gonna name names,
really want to make this an issue, Like Justin Jefferson's
not happy, he's not getting targets. He doesn't have great
(22:21):
numbers with McCarthy. Anyways, Jefferson, who doesn't seem thrilled, which
is understandable, talked about just wanting to win football games.
Speaker 1 (22:29):
Colin, here we go just win games.
Speaker 7 (22:31):
I rather win and not get the ball, then lose
and I get the ball. So as long as we
went in and this team coming in here with a
happy smile on their face, and you know we have
that confidence to contain you on and it can't tell
you till next week, and to better ourselves.
Speaker 1 (22:47):
I like that team.
Speaker 3 (22:49):
First, you think he's excited about facing that Cowboys secondary
and he's got one of the best arms in the league.
Speaker 1 (22:54):
Can are you insinuating Dallas is not the side they
just be careful with this one big guy Dallas defense. Really,
I don't live in the careful lane.
Speaker 3 (23:04):
That's not my life A risk taker.
Speaker 1 (23:05):
I know you're like Arnold, let's got a few picks,
but I'm going downtown.
Speaker 3 (23:09):
So you're saying Dallas for sure, I would just be
careful here. McCarthy look very good settling in against Washington.
Come on, Jordan Mason pounding the rock.
Speaker 1 (23:18):
You're not being serious.
Speaker 3 (23:19):
I'm dead dead ass as the kids say.
Speaker 1 (23:21):
I could say that right, you just did. Sorry.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
J Mack with the News, Well that's the news, and
thanks for stopping by the herd Line News.
Speaker 1 (23:31):
Yeah, the boy of the games this week are really good.
You know, it is funny with a college football playoff.
I think we ended up I mean just two lane
James Madison. There'd be lawsuits that they weren't allowed in.
But all the moves that college football made, disbanding the
Pac ten, Pac twelve, the nil, the portal, it's rough,
(23:52):
it's different, it's it's you know, for traditionalists, it's difficult
college football. Go look at the ratings college football matchups
this year. I mean it started with Ohio State and Texas.
It was just a great season. I mean, there's there
was drama with Lane Kiffin, there was drama with the
College Football Playoff Committee. We had a great season Indiana,
Ohio States. That's as good as it gets. So I
(24:16):
think the playoffs interesting. I think all the teams that
need to be in r and I think Vandy and
Notre Dame had to win one more game and they didn't.
It's that simple.
Speaker 2 (24:26):
Be sure to catch live editions of the Herd weekdays
and noon Easter not a em Pacific.
Speaker 1 (24:33):
You used that chat GPT thing right once in a while.
Speaker 3 (24:38):
Yeah, I'm on there right now.
Speaker 1 (24:39):
Actually, yeah, AI is fun. It's I like messing around
with it. So last night they did an alternate broadcast.
I did not see that using Monsters Inc. Which was
very funny movie. So here's how bad the play was.
So first of all, Jalen Hurt's only quarterback in league history.
Two turnovers on one play, the pick, fumble, recovery and
(24:59):
then fumble. Yeah, so five total turnovers. So on the
alternate broadcast, you'd think AI could figure it out, Like
AI is just brilliant, it knows everything. So on the
alternate broadcast, it was so unique and rare that they
didn't know what to do with the second fumble. They
just laid it on the carpet. They sorry to the
radio audience. They literally didn't know what to do because
(25:23):
it was such a unique and random play, and they
they had the crowd shots by the way as well.
Speaker 3 (25:27):
By the way, do you think Hurts could figure this out?
How much of it is like losing Kellen Moore? Like
Kellen Moore obviously knew what he was doing.
Speaker 1 (25:36):
I think we said this earlier. Nick Sirianni is clearly
a head coach who was dependent on his coordinator. Jalen
is a quarterback who was clearly dependent on many things.
And I've said this, Brock perties good when he's got
the oline healthy, when he's got his full complements of weapons.
(25:58):
Justin Herbert's nine and five and it's a mess. Oh
lines the worst in the league.
Speaker 3 (26:03):
Well, Patrick Mahomes, offensive lines beat up. He had the
worst game of his career hem in the Super Bowl.
No tackles gets slaughtered. So there's many mixed guys on
the planet.
Speaker 1 (26:12):
Joe Burrow Mahomes, I think Herbert's one of them. Josh Allen,
I think Jordan loves one of them. You can get
to the playoffs and the team can be a wreck.
They're just that good. Then there's another circumstantial quarterbacks c J.
(26:33):
Stroud could be either department. I'm not sure what about
GoF Your guy Goff GoF circumstantial GoF needs a good
old line. Stafford also, Stafford can win. Stafford can get
you to the playoffs. I think with McVeigh without an
ideal situation. So let's we talked about this earlier. Put
quarterbacks in two groups. There's the hot air balloons. They're
(26:55):
weather dependent, right, you can't go up in a lightning storm.
There are certain quarterbacks they're dependent on circumstances being perfect
or more right. I know you love Hurts Andy. They're
in that. I could argue Sam Donald's in that. Sam
needs the right weapons, right.
Speaker 3 (27:11):
Oh, Sam, Donald's in the same class as No, No, No.
Speaker 1 (27:14):
You're getting all defensive. Sam's in that Hurts pretty class.
He needs a little protection. You speed it up for Donald,
he'll throw more picks. Baker Mayfield can get very reckless.
Those guys are There's about six on the planet that
can get you to the playoffs, regardless of coach, regardless
of coordinator. And there's six in the world six in
(27:38):
the world. They're the fighter pilots. Just give me the coordinates.
So give me the assignment, give me the coordinators.
Speaker 3 (27:44):
Who were So we know the big four, right, and
then there's two others, Herbert and who's the other one.
Speaker 1 (27:48):
Well, I think Jordan Love has proven to me. Yeah.
I mean he's had battle lines and no run games
and all the receivers are hurt and you look up
and you're like, yeah, Jordan Love's still amazing. Aaron Rodgers
in his prime was closer to that old Aaron Rodgers
is not. So there's only about in my lifetime, there's
only you go back to my entire life, back to
the seventies, there's always been about six quarterbacks that are
(28:12):
just better. They just need less And I'm not saying
they win Super Bowls, but they can get to the
playoffs with less. And then there's another six or seven guys.
Now you could argue Dak's in that first group. Say
what you want, We're not talking super bowls, Dak, Jason Garrett,
Mike McCarthy, great o' Lions, bad old lines, great run game,
no run game. I'd argue Dak's gonna win double digit
(28:34):
games if he's standing up. So I think the revelation
this year is that Dak is better than hers. Dak
has Brian Schottenheimer, the O line, camp pass pro, George
Pickens is there at one point, Ceedee Lamb was out.
The defense before the trades was awful, and Dak's you know,
got him in the playoff.
Speaker 3 (28:51):
Could you counter that, hey, listen, Dak is similar to
what we were talking NBA earlier regular seasons. One thing.
Playoff's a different animal. Well, he's got a sample of
Dak in the playoffs doing nothing.
Speaker 1 (29:00):
I would not worry about that. Playoff games are hard
for everybody.
Speaker 3 (29:03):
I mean, Jalen Hurts had an amazing playoff run last
year by every analytical number, seventy percent completions, one turnover,
like ten touchdown. He was exceptional.
Speaker 1 (29:12):
Okay, but again go back to it. Saquon had the
greatest running back here ever. The on line was completely healthy,
the defense was number one, they had a great coordinator.
Now he's awful. So it's just the I mean, it's
just like, well, I'll give you an example that game.
In my industry, Joe Rogan would be popular on podcasting
regardless of who his producer is. Regardless of what company
(29:37):
he was on Spotify, iHeart Joe Rogan would be popular.
He can be better if he had the best producer
and he was on the best audio platform, but he
would always be He's the curious, interesting storyteller. He would
always be popular. That's a star in any space. Or
you find a great writer. You find a great writer
at the New York Times, the Washington Post. They can
(30:00):
find an audience on substack. They could find an audience
at the New York Times. They could find the Yahoo.
It's very rare. Most even good performers in media, in law,
in anything, they need a support group to elevate the
Howard Stern got numbers regardless of who the PD was. Right.
Speaker 3 (30:20):
So when it comes to quarterbacks, it's tough because quarterbacks
don't really change teams a lot. Stafford is the one
when he was in Detroit, really good quarterback, number one pick,
big arm, but he was never like upper resh line.
Now he goes to McVeigh and he gets Davante and
Buka becomes and now he's in that upper crust.
Speaker 1 (30:37):
Would you agree with that ass certainly? But Detroit wasn't
just average. They were a mess, you know, like.
Speaker 3 (30:44):
Kelvin Johnson's a Hall of Famer, but otherwise, yes, coaching
circles and they.
Speaker 1 (30:49):
Never communicateed that. I mean, I think my take on
quarterbacks is every year the NFL draft gives us about
one to two franchise quarterbacks. That's it. So over a
ten year period you get let's say eighteen new franchise quarterbacks.
I mean, like legitimate can win a playoff game. Every
(31:10):
four to five years you get a superstar. I think
Drake May is that where it just doesn't matter. Drake
now Vrabel's obviously good, but the roster is much better
this year than last. They spend three hundred million dollars
on it. They hit on like three draft picks, but
they're just in my lifetime. You get a star, you
get a Dan Fouts, a Montana, A Brady, A Manning,
(31:30):
a Luck, a Mahomes and allan About every four to
five years you get one of those. I think Mendoza
is that. I think Drake May is that. I think
bo Nicks is circumstantial. He wouldn't be this good without
Sean Payton. I think Caleb is circumstantial. He wouldn't be
this good. We saw it last year without ben Jonsons
not that good.
Speaker 3 (31:50):
I mean some of the numbers. I mean, they're winning,
but some of them are, like Caleb is not putting
up rock party numbers from San Francisco, right, and it's
only a second year, so we don't expect that.
Speaker 1 (31:58):
But he's got much more, It's more durable, he's got
a much bigger arm. He's a great athlete, Brocks none
of those things. Yeah, you gotta be available on Sunday.
Once you start having a second, third, fourth injury. That
is a skill.
Speaker 3 (32:10):
I said Joe Burrow, he's going through that.
Speaker 1 (32:12):
Joe is just so good. He's so great that you're like,
we're gonna tolerate the injuries. And also the Bengals are
a so like Josh Allen Herbert. They're similar to Lebron.
Wherever Lebron goes, he gonna win. He's gonna go to
the finals.
Speaker 3 (32:25):
Days awesome. You take Justin Herbert, put him anywhere, They're
gonna win.
Speaker 1 (32:28):
They're gonna be going to be a solid playoff team
battling for unless you have Brandon Staley's coach. I mean again,
sometimes you can't overcome does that. Matt Stafford couldn't overcome
the Lions, Yeah,
