Speaker 1 (00:26):
Played in the NFL for thirteen seasons. All these breakdowns
are so good on the internet. NFL network as well,
made the playoffs three times. Here's for that Cowboy team
that reached the NFC championship back in the eighty two.
Brian Balding are our friends joining us live? So I said,
this McCaffrey touching the ball twenty seven times is to me,
(00:50):
it's just way too much. I don't like it at all.
And I also think running back's the only position now
in football you can hit from any angle, anywhere, anytime.
What did you make of not hol him He had
eight carries and eight touches in the fourth What did
you make of not taking him out.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
Especially up fourteen points like they were Colin? I mean,
he's got three hundred and seventy two touches so far.
Speaker 4 (01:10):
This year. He's still got two games to go.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
But you know, his longest run of the year, Troy
Aigman mentioned it last night, twenty four yards in the
fourth quarter.
Speaker 4 (01:17):
Like he seems like he loves it. He bounces up
off the ground.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
I know last year he had the injured year and
he had the achilles issues and he only had fifty
carries last year. So maybe he's a lot fresher this year.
But I don't think he wants to come out of
these games. But if I was Kyle, I would take
him out of these games. When you have these these games,
I'd save him for the postseason, get him as fresh
as possible for the postseeds. He's going to get two
(01:42):
thousand yards, he's going to get one hundred catches.
Speaker 4 (01:44):
He's going to get over four hundred touches.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
That's a lot for any running back, especially one that
has done that already in his career.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
Are you surprised by Philip Rivers?
Speaker 4 (01:56):
Yes, I am.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
However, you know this thing, this brain of his, the
arm obviously has diminished. He's never run away from anybody
in this business, but he can still breach you with
his brain. He still knows how to diagnose the defense.
I thought it was great last night where they had
everybody micd up. You could hear all the checks, all
the signals, you know, getting the clearouts on third down
(02:18):
to Josh downs, the touchdown to Alec Pierce, like.
Speaker 4 (02:21):
He can still carve you up.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
And I thought he's probably the envy of every offensive
coordinator at every level because of what he can do
with the line of scrimmage and what he sees and.
Speaker 4 (02:33):
What he can do to manipulate your defense right now.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
The you know, it's interesting. I'm I'm watching the Cowboys
with George Pickens and Floorny has become a really nice
little player for them. Ceede Lamb's obviously great in your
thirteen years and you played in Dallas. Listen. Wide receiver
DK metcalf pookin Nakua got in trouble. It's a very
(02:59):
expressive position. I would say the offensive line is really
a unit. You guys could go camping together, like it's
a real unit. Wide receiver is a little bit of
an NBA player. It's like, hey, give me the ball,
I'm gonna break a guy down, Like I get it.
It's an expressive, almost artistic position. What do you do
with George Pickens because he's a matchup issue. But I
(03:21):
look at that position, Brian and college furnishes the NFL
with about fifteen receivers a year that can play. What
do you do with George Pickens.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
I would try to sign him if I could. I mean,
you know, you got it. Like Philadelphia figured it.
Speaker 4 (03:35):
Out to sign A J.
Speaker 3 (03:36):
Brown, to sign Saquon to sign Devontae Smith, Dallas Goddard,
they got everybody signed. They haven't had an ex receiver
a guy opposite the tight end by George Pickens in forever,
and so they've always had a great X, you know,
whether it was Michael Irvin or Dez Bryant or going
back to Drew Pearson. And I feel like that's what
Pickins is. He's you know, he should probably be wearing
(03:59):
number eighty eight in that offense, but ceed gets that.
I feel like they still need him. I know it's
a disappointing season, but.
Speaker 4 (04:06):
He's been a big reason why you want to watch.
Speaker 3 (04:09):
The Cowboys because of his ability just to you know,
be so acrobatic with the ball in the air and
then do great stuff with it after the catch.
Speaker 1 (04:18):
Did you ever play a team in your career, or
were you with a team like the Chicago Bears that
can get out played for three quarters? But there is
a magical thing, I mean getting on side kicks, you know,
getting fumble recoveries at the two. Did you ever have
an experience where almost Tebow did this for about a
(04:39):
year where you're like, the football gods are in our favor.
Speaker 4 (04:45):
I don't think I played.
Speaker 3 (04:46):
I mean in Philadelphia, we had a team, but we
were built around defense when I was in Philly once
the playoff games there. But what do Chicago's doing? I
mean they lead the league in takeaways like a big
margin right now. And you know, whether it could be
a fumbled snap from the center like Green Bay did
and they recover the fumble, or like Washington did at
the end of that game where Jade Daniels fumbled the
(05:06):
handoff and they recovered it and won the game. That
seemed to be the trigger point for this team. But
there's also something about this team where they're never out
of it, and so a lot of that is coaching
and the mentality that they have. But some of the
guys that are on that defense, Kevin Byern is going
to lead this league in interceptions he's done it before. Yeah,
you look at Chelsey Gardner Johnson. That guy is a
(05:27):
thief and he's always has been. And so some of
those guys are natural in Nashwan, right, you know, came
you know from Dallas, and like he knows how to
really play that position.
Speaker 4 (05:38):
He's beaten out Jalen Johnson.
Speaker 3 (05:40):
And so I feel like as long as they keep
taking the ball away like they do, he give an
extra avacity offense, they might have a chance to pull
off some more of these victories like we have watched.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
So I watched Philadelphia manhandle Washington and really run the ball.
They looked like last year's team, and Washington is not
very good defensively. But it is interesting there are certain players.
There's a stat on George Kittle, this is remarkable. San
Francisco is a losing record the last two years when
he doesn't play, and he's worth of a touchdown this
year to the offense. And I think a lot of
(06:11):
it's is blocking Andane Lane Johnson's a right tackle. They're
not the same offense.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
Is it?
Speaker 1 (06:20):
I mean, is it intellect? Is it toughness? Kittle Lane Johns.
We don't look at tight ends and right tackles as
a touchdown. But there is something about those players, and
I'm not exactly sure what it is. They're different when
they play than when they not. When they don't.
Speaker 3 (06:37):
Well, I mean, Lane is unbeatable, honestly, Like I'm good
friends with him. I see him all the time, work
out in his backyard at his barn. But he's unbeatable.
Nobody's beating him this year. I mean when they would
play Dallas with Michael Parsons Mike and never beat him.
You know, he he just pitches a shutout at right tackles,
So you never give him any help. You never have
to slide protect, you never have to keep the back
end to help him out. And so the offense is
(06:59):
a little bit more aggress since when he's in there,
the quarterback likes to hold the ball to begin with.
Speaker 4 (07:03):
It's not a knock on jail and hurts, It's what
he is.
Speaker 3 (07:06):
But he gets an extra tick when Lane is in
on the offense and he's got another chance to either
run with it or make a throw down the field.
Speaker 4 (07:15):
Lane gives you that opportunity. And then I think when you.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
Go in the huddle and Lane Johnson's that right tackle,
you just feel like you've got the best tackle on
all of football and you're gonna You're supposed to be good.
Speaker 4 (07:26):
You're supposed to make these plays.
Speaker 3 (07:28):
And I think he gives that whole team, including the
coaching staff, another level of confidence when he's out there.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
Okay, so you watch a lot of film and I
and I suggested something last week. I said, listen, when
you're a bad team, Brian, you have to consider everything. Yeah,
free agency, draft, trade deadline, you have to have meetings
with everything. And so I said, if Fernando Mendoza looks
great in his next three starts for Indiana and he
(07:55):
goes up against Bama and he's just up and down
the field, Jackson Dart has absolutely in his last four starts,
defensive coordinators have a little tape now and he's not
quite the same guy now. It may be scatterbo it,
maybe other reasons. He's obviously got some talent. But don't
you have to consider that you could restart the clock
even though it's only a year. If Fernando Mendoza is
(08:19):
blowing through these SEC teams in Ohio State, again, don't
you have to consider drafting him even though you just
drafted Jackson Dart.
Speaker 4 (08:28):
Well, I mean there might be a whole new regime
in New York.
Speaker 3 (08:30):
You know, maybe Joe Shane isn't there next year, and
so the new general manager might get a chance to
go get there, Joe Burrow, if Fernando is that, I
don't know yet, none of the snow. But I mean,
Jackson Dart's got real skills now, like the talent around
him is awful. I mean, I'd like to see a
receiver that could actually catch the ball rather than dropping
it like Theo does right there. I mean he's dropped
(08:52):
a couple of them that led to interceptions. I didn't
think he saw the field particularly well against Brian Flores
and some of the things that the Vikings were doing
on Sunday against those blitz zero looks of his. But
I also don't think that they prepared him very well
for it even and so coaching matters in his business.
Just look at Caleb right now with Ben Johnson, the
difference that he is this year.
Speaker 4 (09:12):
I like to see.
Speaker 3 (09:14):
I'd like to see this kid, Jackson Dart, with a
really good coach and a team that can build around him,
and I think they're going to be okay with him
maybe better than Okay, I think he's got a chance
to flourish. But to answer your question, should you consider
Fernando Mendoza. Absolutely, You got to look at everything in
every position. You look at When the Chargers drafted Philip Rivers,
(09:36):
they had Drew Brees there. We didn't know that Drew
Brees is gonna be a Hall of Fame quarterback, but
they had a starting quarterback there, and they still drafted
you know where, they drafted Eli and then they traded
Philip Rivers. But still you've got to consider every position
when you're the New York Giants right now, starting with
the quarterback.
Speaker 1 (09:52):
Yeah, you know we were talking about this past week.
The Rams special teams have cost him a game against
the Niners, the Eagles, and the Ehawks. The back end,
the back end of that secondary not great. I saw
Carolina mow through them. Are the Rams the best team
in that If I said to you best team in
the league, it's very hard to be the best team
(10:14):
in the league when I don't trust the back end
of your defense and your special teams routinely loses you games.
Who is your best team in this league today?
Speaker 3 (10:25):
Well, it's Jacksonville had a very impressive victory in Denver.
I mean, that was a team that won eleven in
a row. They went into their house and they destroyed it.
And that was after Trevor Lawrence got hit almost every
time he dropped back in the first quarter, and they
survived the initial onslaught and they won. And so they're
built the right way. They played man coverage. They've got
(10:47):
a good front. This Trayvon Walker had a big old
first baseman smit on his hand for the first for
about six weeks, and now that's off and he's terrorizing it.
But I still think the Rams because of I still
think are a very good team. Because Sean mcvay's comb plays,
Matt Stafford's probably the MVP, they might be able to
overcome it. But they lost in Philadelphia because they couldn't
(11:08):
protect on a field goal two times in the fourth quarter,
and they lost that game. But I feel like if
you get DeVonta and Puka, and you get the two
backs and the healthy offense line of Stafford, they can
outscore opponents. They probably should have beaten Eagles in the
playoff game a year ago in Philadelphia. I still think
they're going to be the toughest opponent for anybody, despite
(11:31):
what you just described, you know, in the special team
woes and the issues that they've had.
Speaker 1 (11:37):
Brian Baldinger Baldi's breakdowns. Baldi, have a great holiday. I
see the beautiful tree behind you down there in floor.
Thank you and we'll talk soon.
Speaker 3 (11:45):
Man, I look forward to account. Have a great holidays yourself. Man,
Happy holidays.
Speaker 4 (11:49):
Team.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
Yeah it is. I always say in baseball, you can't
win a World Series is a bad bullpen. But the
Dodgers bullpen was bad. They kind of solved it. And
I look at the Rams special teams and I'm like,
I mean, they're moving off kickers and they it's it's
a little bit of a wreck. But you know the
other thing about when you get into tournaments, they may
not have to play Seattle again. Seattle obviously matches up
(12:11):
real well with them. They may never have to play them.
And I don't know quite what to do with Jacksonville.
Speaker 2 (12:16):

Pauli Foods Go Here with Tony Foosco.
Speaker 5 (12:27):
Yeah, as everybody knows we're the hosts of the award
winning Polly and Tony Foosco Show. Yeah, but instead of
us telling you how great we are, here's how Dan
Patrick described us when he came on our show.
Speaker 1 (12:37):
Quick, knowledgeable and funny, opinionated.
Speaker 6 (12:40):
What are you doing interrupting our promo? Yeah, he wasn't
talking about you. You took those clips totally of context.
Speaker 5 (12:47):
Oh yeah, well after this promo, I'm gonna take you
out and beat you.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
Let me put this into context.
Speaker 2 (12:53):
Shut up.
Speaker 5 (12:54):
Yeah, anyway, just listen to the Paully and Tony Fusco
Show on iHeartRadio, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get podcast.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
Ye Jmack with the news, the news.
Speaker 2 (13:07):
This is the Herdline News, right.
Speaker 7 (13:10):
Con Let's start with Dak Prescott and the Cowboys. They
got eliminated from the playoffs after losing to the Chargers
and after the Eagles won Dallas, though they're not sitting
any starters.
Speaker 6 (13:21):
And focusing on next season.
Speaker 7 (13:22):
Here's Dak Prescott talking about finishing strong.
Speaker 8 (13:27):
I guess it's different when you when you do this
and no, no, I'm not firing any shots, like but
I've said it over and over like this is our job,
Like we're blessed, you know how hard we've worked and
the sacrifices we've got to even get to this league.
I don't know anything else, Like I'm not going to
cheat this game. I'm not going gift this game everything
that I've have. And that's just that, that's just how
my mind works.
Speaker 1 (13:49):
He's so good at the podium. He's such a he's
such a foxhole guy, you know what I mean? You
can trust him.
Speaker 6 (13:56):
Yeah, anything for you on this.
Speaker 7 (13:57):
Well, this won't make Blazon five or if it were Sunday,
would it make the Blazer.
Speaker 1 (14:03):
I like Dallas. Actually, I think the Commanders are so
bad defensively. You look at the PFF ratings when they
put him up, like when they play these games and
they put up the PFF rankings. The Commander's defense A
lot of guys in like the sixties, and and I
think Dallas plays with a lot of pride. And I
think Dallas's offensive personnel is pretty good.
Speaker 7 (14:23):
Yeah, I think, Yeah, I'm with you Dallas for sure.
Here it looks like Quinn Williams will get back. They
could get no pressure on Herbert at all, So the
quarterbacks got cooked. You know what, they'll get pressure on
Josh Johnson. I mean, Mariota is not gonna play colin
a third string quarter. I'm surprised this is only seven.
I think there's a great bet and a great teaser
leg down to Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (14:43):
Just win.
Speaker 7 (14:44):
I know the defense stinks. Any concern about like Dak
risking injury here, no in the season.
Speaker 1 (14:50):
No. I think Dak. I think he wants to play,
and I think they listen. You can't ask guys. Guys
like Dak are going to show up and grind. I
think this is listen, Dallas, Dallas. This future is better
than people think. I don't love the staff, but there's
a lot of elements here. I do like they got
(15:12):
to clean up the back end of their defense. But well,
I mean, Cale.
Speaker 7 (15:16):
Talked about cap hits, like Dak has a huge cap hit.
Speaker 1 (15:20):
You if you if you nail the other receiver Ceedee
Lamb and uh Is Florinoy. I think he's pretty good player.
Speaker 6 (15:28):
Has looked good.
Speaker 7 (15:29):
He got he got dinged up in a dirty hit
by the Chargers. But I just don't see a path
to success next year for Dallas. They can't get demonstrably
better this offseason.
Speaker 6 (15:39):
There just isn't a ward Chester if.
Speaker 1 (15:42):
You many, if you went out and got an elite
coach and nailed your first two picks, Oh, we're moving
off Shotty. I'm just I'm just saying, if they lose
the next two weeks, I don't think they're going to,
but they're going to replace eber Flues. But Jerry, Jerry
spends money on a lot of stuff, and he's usually
really good about this, but he he's kind of gone
discount on coaching.
Speaker 6 (16:02):
Yeah, I don't.
Speaker 7 (16:03):
If you ask me, will they make the playoffs next year? Yes, no,
I would bet no right now.
Speaker 1 (16:07):
I just don't.
Speaker 6 (16:08):
I don't see it.
Speaker 7 (16:08):
Let's move on to the NFL went and announced some
Pro Bowlers today.
Speaker 6 (16:14):
For some reason.
Speaker 7 (16:15):
They announced six quarterbacks for both the AFC and NFC,
Stafford Darnold.
Speaker 6 (16:20):
Dak in the NFC, Drake May, Josh Allen.
Speaker 1 (16:22):
And Herbert in the ANC Herbert, how about that finally
acknowledging Look at that? Look at that Justin Herbert pro
bowler cement that embed that in your mind? All the
critics out there of Justin Herbert?
Speaker 6 (16:37):
Are there critics of Justin Herbert?
Speaker 1 (16:39):
Oh? He hasn't want a playoff game? What does that mean?
Speaker 6 (16:42):
Listen, that's there's a lot of unintelligent people.
Speaker 7 (16:45):
If that's your argument against Herbert he hasn't want a
playoff game with what Yeah, I mean, I think there's
a credible argument he should finish top three in the
MVP voters.
Speaker 1 (16:54):
Dan Marino had Don Shula the winningest coach ever and
has a using playoff record one trip to the Super Bowl.
It is hard to win in January. It is, especially
when you're a I mean Dan Marine, a warm weather quarterback,
especially if you're a dome or a warm weather team,
because you're often going in the lousy cold weather and
you're just not. You're not. You don't plan it. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (17:16):
How about this? Oh look at that stat Sam Darnold
back to back Pro Bowls. Oh, interesting, different teams, that's
your boy.
Speaker 1 (17:21):
How about that Sam Darnold a two time Pro Bowler. Yay,
somebody never quit on him. Oh geez, all right, let's
go to the NBA to wrap up Colin.
Speaker 7 (17:33):
Interesting scenario last night unfolding on the Golden State bench.
Speaker 6 (17:37):
Here's Steve curR and Draymond Green going at it.
Speaker 7 (17:40):
Assistant coach Jerry Stackhouse steps in, and then you see
a Warriors player.
Speaker 6 (17:45):
Get up and step in. I think that's Moses Moody.
Speaker 7 (17:48):
Meanwhile, not seeing as Steph Curry on the bench, just
burying his head in a towel, like gosh, I can't
believe I got to put up with this.
Speaker 6 (17:54):
Crap, Colin.
Speaker 7 (17:56):
I mean, listen, let's first, let's go to the sound
before we go off on Draymond Green.
Speaker 6 (17:59):
But he is leaving the bench.
Speaker 7 (18:01):
I know he's your guy from podcasting, But anyways, here's
Kerr and Draymond after the game. We had it out
a little bit, and you know, he made his decision
to go back to the locker room to cool off.
Speaker 2 (18:14):
He didn't play the last twenty minutes.
Speaker 4 (18:15):
Would you have gone back to No, No, he wasn't.
He wasn't going back in he and was that a
decision by him or you?
Speaker 3 (18:22):
Well, he left, he went back to the locker room,
and so we've moved forward.
Speaker 4 (18:27):
Timper spilled over, and.
Speaker 7 (18:30):
I just thought it was best that I got it.
Speaker 6 (18:32):
I don't think there was a situation where it was
going to get better.
Speaker 1 (18:37):
Two adults there got a little I mean curs intents
and Draymond's.
Speaker 7 (18:41):
Intents leaving the bench and going to the locker room
and not coming back for twenty minutes. That's not much.
That's not mature behavior. Colin from a veteran leader.
Speaker 1 (18:54):
Well, you would hope he'd stick around. But it's a
long season.
Speaker 6 (18:56):
You hope? What what are you talking?
Speaker 7 (18:59):
You'd hope he would stay on the bench as opposed
to go to the locker room to cool off.
Speaker 6 (19:04):
What is this?
Speaker 7 (19:04):
A fifth grader getting said to his room, give me
a break. This is deplorable behavior.
Speaker 1 (19:09):
Well, I think that's overstated. I think when you have worked,
when a coach has been an intense coach, Michael Jordan
wants punched kert, he yells, he's intense, he's he's smart,
he's intense.
Speaker 6 (19:22):
Those were time out, Those were teammates.
Speaker 8 (19:25):
Friend.
Speaker 6 (19:25):
Okay, this is a totally different scenario.
Speaker 7 (19:28):
This is a player going off on the coach and
then walking away from his team. I could argue Draymond
Green quit on his team last night.
Speaker 6 (19:35):
He went to the locker room. You know what, coin
one time.
Speaker 7 (19:39):
When next time you're here, I'm gonna be ounhappy with
a segment. We're gonna bark, and then I'm just gonna
walk away. Will you tell me when I'm invited back?
To be on the show again.
Speaker 1 (19:46):
Well, you got five other players sitting there. It's not
like you. I don't know, I think this is easy.
I think this just happens in relationships. They'll it's it's
Draymond can be a bit combustible, but it's not Looten.
This team's got way bigger issues than that. They're old,
they're small, they're not COMINGA doesn't work again with Curry.
(20:08):
I mean, if you want to say that, dram I mean, honestly,
if somebody how about this trade Draymond COMINGA and a
draft pick for Anthony Davis. Yeah, please just get him
out of town.
Speaker 7 (20:19):
We don't need that toxic personality around Steph Curry, a
class act, one of the ambassadors of the league. I mean, hell,
I mean it's Draymond Green. Really it's disappointing.
Speaker 4 (20:30):
Man.
Speaker 7 (20:30):
There was a time when I liked Draymond, like, I
don't know, eight years ago. I can't believe you're actually
defending him even a little bit.
Speaker 1 (20:37):
I would just say that you don't want to overreact
to these situations the NBA, major League Baseball, these long seasons.
Speaker 7 (20:47):
Something's going on with Draymond Because earlier this week we
saw him get into it with a guy on the
Suns and he was yelling at it. He like kind
of shoved him in the head and called him, kept
calling him white boy. I think it was Gillespie, and
I was like.
Speaker 6 (20:57):
What are you doing, Draymond?
Speaker 7 (20:58):
Not great except some you don't know what people have
going on off the court, that's right, maybe there's something,
but this behavior, this is just embarrassing. I don't want
to see him on the court. On Christmas Day, they
got Cooper Flag and Steph Curry. Okay, these are ambassadors
of the league. Cooper Flag could be the future of
the league. I don't need these sideshow acts mucking it
up on Christmas Day.
Speaker 1 (21:19):
Jmack with the News.
Speaker 2 (21:21):
Well that's the news, and thanks for stopping by the
Herd Line News.
Speaker 1 (21:26):
Uh yeah, I mean Golden State. I think it's very difficult.
I think after that went over the Celtics, they should
have kept Curry and moved a lot of the parts.
They're just the West is too deep, too young, too athletic,
and that's part of the frustration. In my opinion. It's
the Herd.
Speaker 2 (21:46):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and neon Eastern a Empacific on Fox Sports Radio FS
one and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (21:57):
Yeah, it's funny. Mostly stay off all the social media stuff,
have people do it for me. But occasionally during the
football season people make good suggestions on topics and it's
all kind of scammed through it sometimes because people have
good ideas on stuff. And I remember about those four
(22:18):
or five, six weeks ago. Somebody it's like Colin, I mean,
what is this The Chicago Bears show, folks, one of
the great watches in the league. The quarterback's incredible. Their
games are all close, they're all come from behind. I
thought the Bears Packers game honestly may have been the
game of the year in the NFL. Seattle and Rams
(22:39):
have played a couple of beauties, but by the way,
Chicago San Francisco next week is the game of the week.
So it's like, well, when I was in LA, You're like, well,
you're very favorable to LA teams. Well, let's see the
Rams and the Chargers will both make the playoffs. The
Lakers are pretty interesting. I don't know. The Dodgers are
the best baseball dynasty arguably since the seventy five Cincinnati Reds.
(23:03):
I mean, what do you want me to say, La,
He's got great patches. They just they got good owners
and great coaches. The Bears are fascinating. I mean, it's
a fascinating watch, full of personality, winning late close games.
And you know, when you're playing the Packers and the Bears,
doesn't that sound big? That sounds like a big game
Bears Niners. That sounds like the game of the week.
(23:27):
Here's Nick right earlier on the continued development of Caleb.
Speaker 9 (23:32):
If you were to ask me, Colin, here are fifteen
traits that make a quarterback and make up an NFL quarterback.
Pick one that is most fixable, I would say, not
great at layups. The stuff he is great at is
not only is it not like fixable, it's not teachable.
(23:55):
And so give me the guy who has the inherent
greatness in him, and then pair him with someone like
Ben Johnson whose job it is to help him with
the other stuff.
Speaker 1 (24:06):
I know. The other thing we talked about the Bears
is we had a graphic earlier. It's crazy of the
eight division leaders, the kind of nerdy, mathy cap hit reality.
If you look at the division leading quarterbacks, the highest
cap hit. I do apologize to the radio audience. There's
(24:27):
a lot of numbers on the screen, but here's the
easiest way to digest it. Of all the division leading quarterbacks,
eight of eight have a cap hit of sixteenth or lower,
most in the twenties. You're paying your quarterback of fortune
good luck. I mean Aaron Rodgers deserves credit. He had
(24:50):
the Steelers over a barrel. Mike Tomlin was getting heat
and he's like, no, I want better weapons. Well, he
told the Steelers it's not about money. Here's the number
I'm looking at that allows them to go get DK Metcalf,
Kenneth Gainwell, who didn't cost a lot from Philadelphia, but
he's a great weapon. The untold story of Rogers that's
(25:11):
not getting a lot of play is his cap hit
is fourteen million bucks and he's playing great. And I
do think, is you age and you've got one hundred
and fifty two undred million dollar net worth? I do think.
I've always said this, don't chase money in my business.
Chase good management or good bosses. There's money out there.
There's not a lot of great management. In all my
(25:31):
years doing this, I've been very fortunate for the record,
but I think in the same thing when you're an
older quarterback and you've made your money, don't chase the money.
Get it. Get now. Matt Stafford makes good money. He's
a big cap hit, but it's not Remember the Raiders
offered more for Stafford and he's like, no, no, no, I'll
take less. And living in California, you're gonna make less
(25:53):
than fifty cents on the dollar. I mean you are anyway,
So the very yeah, I mean that's just the reality
of the text situation in California. So only one quarterback
in this league is a major cap hit and is
a playoff team right now, and that's because he has
maybe the best coach and a roster where they have
stolen talent Puka fifth round, Kyron Williams fourth or fifth round.
(26:17):
They don't miss on defensive draft picks. That is the
mathy part of football that nobody discusses.
Speaker 7 (26:25):
Yeah, the team building that we love. So you talked
a lot about Caleb Williams. Let me ask you a question,
Colin Coward, of the seven quarterbacks going into the playoffs currently,
who do you have the most faith in? Not based
on skill, I'm just talking about playing football this season.
Speaker 6 (26:42):
Every quarterback backs in order in the NFC.
Speaker 7 (26:45):
Sam Darnold of the Seahawks, Caleb, Jalen Hurts, Bryce Young, Brock,
Purdy Stafford, and Jordan Love Stafford. Stafford wuld be one. Okay,
where does Caleb Williams' rank? Just trust I'm not talking about.
Speaker 1 (26:59):
His you're talking NFC. I would go tell me write
this down. I'd go Stafford number one. I don't disagree.
I would probably do Jordan Love number two. I like
Jordan Love a lot. I do too, But okay, number three.
Give me the quarterbacks again.
Speaker 7 (27:14):
We got so you have not done Donald, you haven't
done Hurts, you haven't done Bryce, Young, Brock, perty or Kayleb.
It's Donald Donald above Purty, Okay, fair enough?
Speaker 6 (27:26):
Whatever?
Speaker 1 (27:26):
Oh no, no, I would put You know, remember it
gets cloudy in the playoffs. I do not in Santa Cla.
Speaker 6 (27:32):
Actually it doesn't.
Speaker 1 (27:33):
San, I would say, I don't even know what to
do with Jalen Hurts. I really don't. Honestly, It's like
I would probably do. I would probably do Purty four
because of his coach and Hittle's healthy.
Speaker 7 (27:45):
So then Hurts would be five. So Caleb Williams of
the Bears would come in six ahead of Bryce Young.
Speaker 1 (27:51):
Correct, Well, dude, it's his first year with his staff.
Speaker 6 (27:54):
That's what I'm talking about, man. I lead about the Bears.
Speaker 1 (27:57):
So if you do the AFC, it's the same thing
I likes. He'd probably be four or five or six.
Speaker 6 (28:01):
No, even six or seven. Aaron, Rodgers and bow Nicks
are at the bottom for sure.
Speaker 1 (28:05):
Well, you know I trust Aaron. I trust Aaron would
be fine. I mean, Aaron's limited. They have one receiver.
Speaker 7 (28:10):
Aaron may have more playoff appearances than all those quarterbacks combined.
Speaker 1 (28:14):
I would trust in this. I would trust Allan Old
play well. Herbert o'l play well. I like Drake Maye.
I like Drake may a lot. You guys, I told
you you thought I was crazy. You and I when
we disagree on a pick, you've often had a better
success than I have. I think you've come to your
reality on Drake.
Speaker 7 (28:34):
I'm the dope who liked Drake may over Jayden Daniels
and all last year I got it thrown in my
face repeatedly.
Speaker 6 (28:39):
Now, remember Drake may and North Carolina was awesome.
Speaker 7 (28:42):
Man.
Speaker 1 (28:42):
That guy threw a deep was just law Member Belichick
didn't like his feet. He was raw, but his comp
and it was really accurate.
Speaker 7 (28:50):
Was justin Herbert je Garrodeneo started last season. It was
like we're playing our best quarterback and it was like
Jacoby Brissett or something, and Drake May sitting here on
the bench, like, May is awesome. But again, I think
bo Nicks is probably six or seven here.
Speaker 1 (29:04):
That sounds like a criticism, But boon Nicks and Caleb
they're just kids. I mean they're young.
Speaker 6 (29:12):
I get it.
Speaker 7 (29:12):
So that's why I'm nervous about them. I know you're
gassed up about those two. It's going to be a
really rough go for May Nicks, Caleb, A lot of
first time quarterbacks in the playoffs, Bryce Young. The track
record is brutal. The lights are bright, there's tons of tape.
The defensive coordinators are elite. I mean, this is going
to be a very interesting playoffs.
Speaker 6 (29:33):
Col I don't.
Speaker 7 (29:34):
I have no idea who's coming out of the ASC
or NC none.
Speaker 6 (29:38):
I feel confident about the RAMS, But after that, I am.
Speaker 1 (29:40):
Really you know what really is interesting to me. Everybody
loves Rabel. We all know Drake May is good. They're
receiving group, which everybody thought was a weakness. Go look
at the data on their receiving group solid. Oh solid,
it's so average, it's top three and big plays.
Speaker 2 (29:55):
In the league.
Speaker 1 (29:57):
Yeah, day schedule, Kyle will Youhams, Hunter, Henry mccollins. Booty, Booty,
I love that. I love Booty. That kid, I love
that kid.
Speaker 6 (30:12):
I love Booty too,
