Speaker 1 (00:01):
The volume. What's up, quauquee?
Speaker 2 (00:13):
How you doing Man? And we're back to it Man.
Speaker 3 (00:17):
Newark, Yeah, it's been a minute since, uh, since you've
been in the octagon.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
Also been a minute since we chatted. Obviously.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
You and I had some conversations off the record since then, Man,
very very productive conversations.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
How you feeling with everything?
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Man? Feeling good? Man?
Speaker 4 (00:33):
Speaking about this conversations Broth you know, uh linked up
with you. Man, was a great conversation. Bro And I
feel like, you know, I just needed some time off Man,
And now that I'm back, you know, and you know,
being able to work with certain guys like Ouzman and
everything of that nature, it's just, Man, I feel like,
you know, this is my time to shine.
Speaker 1 (00:49):
How did that?
Speaker 3 (00:50):
How did that come to pass? You guys fight in
the last fight. Then I saw y'all on this podcast
kind of chatting. I didn't know that you guys worked
together though while you were down there. How long did
you stay down there? What did you guys do specifically?
Speaker 4 (01:03):
Uh, it was it was a short time, man, and
you know it was it was like, you know, I
think more than anything, it was just a little gems
that they gave me about just you know, just the basis, right,
you know what I mean, just where to move from
and and and how to control the hips man, and
really be able to you know, control the situation no
matter what positions that you in.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (01:22):
But the major thing I feel like I got from
Ouzmn is just how to move like a champ, you know,
and that right there, man, I'm gonna take with me
one hundred percent.
Speaker 3 (01:29):
But when you, uh, when you go into that fight
with Kamorrow, you're on like a long winding streak. This
would seem to be the fight that would propel you
into a championship opportunity. Right when that fight happens and
you go back afterwards and you're reflecting, what is the
first thing that you take from it? Because I'll tell
you one thing. You know, you and I talked after that.
(01:51):
I expected you with all the muscle to fatigue. You
didn't fatigue. You fought through everything that was going on
in that fight, and honestly, you showed a lot of
championship qualities. But when you went back and you had
to reflect, what was the first thing and the most
important thing you took from that fight?
Speaker 4 (02:07):
Uh, the biggest thing, the reflection to me is first
off USMANI ie, he did his thing, But I think
it's a lot of things that I had to take
care of outside of the octagon. And now that I
got all those things, you know, cleared up, you know,
I'm not fighting another fight, you know what I'm saying
before I step into yeah, you know, So being able
(02:30):
to clear up those things, man, being able to just
really kind of dive in and to really kind of
figure out what my place is in this organization, this
massive organization now, which is the UFC, And I finally
kind of see my place right And the only place
I see bro is me having that belt, you know,
having that title. And the only way that I can
get towards that is by constantly competing, constantly competing, and
(02:52):
that's what that's why I'm on right now. So my
biggest reflection from that man is to make sure that
I make fighting the main thing.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
You know, when you.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
When you were looking at your career and going forward,
you said you wanted to do all those things that
you needed to do, training, doing some different things in training,
just making sure that you're putting yourself in the best situations.
Has anything changed in that sense in terms of different preparation.
Are you still training with the same team, Like, what
(03:24):
does what does this time of wind look like?
Speaker 1 (03:26):
For Waqi Buffet?
Speaker 4 (03:28):
I mean, I could really get down to the gritty, right, my, my,
My camp has always been special, and I can never
just say I never had a team, right, But I
don't have the traditional teams like you know these other
fighters have, you know, in these massive gyms where they
pretty much have everything handed to fight us, right, not
(03:48):
even just with the coaches, but with the teammates and
partners that you have from all different sizes and all
different weight classes, but maybe the recovery that they might
have or you know, and the different elements from you know,
boxing and jiu jitsu and you know, wrestling and all
those things.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
I don't have.
Speaker 4 (04:03):
I didn't have those things for the longest time, and
you know, being able to transition over and coming back
to Saint Louis, right, We don't have a lot of
fighters that stay in Saint Louis right to train and
to you know, do what I'm doing, which is yet
again on a world class level and become a world champ.
Right now, I'm building, right, So I tell guys, I'm
building brick by Brick, But I realized a lot of
(04:26):
things that even got me to this point.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
Bro.
Speaker 4 (04:28):
It was just the hard work, you know what I mean,
Like that that what you say, that championship mentality, and
a lot of people when they do see me right,
because I you know, I'm massive, right, you know what
I mean, they see pretty much the muscles that I have.
You know, a lot of people will assume, right, I
get tired, But you know, be honest with you, I
think I got one of the best cardios out there,
you know, especially when it comes to the type of
way that I train, when I do ten rounds and
(04:49):
when I do eleven twelve rounds, doing certain things, no
matter if it's wrestling, no matter if it's boxing or
just overall cardio work.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
So the preparation still has been the same. I think.
Speaker 4 (05:00):
The only thing that's different I've been able to work
with my guy Jeff Henry, which is the first time
I can really say I had a real MMA coach,
a real like It's crazy to say that right after
being fighting, but I've been doing my own thing for
a long time, and I've really been able just to
sit back and just allow somebody else to come up
with a system, allow somebody else to really kind of,
you know, do a deep dive on exactly what we
(05:22):
need to work on every single day instead of that
being you know, depending on me, you know. So I
would say the major change is me allowing my coach
to be a coach and dial in with everything.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
For the past eleven months.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
Josh Koscheck used to say something called mindless training, where
you show.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
Up, you're the vessel.
Speaker 3 (05:42):
You let them form that vessel, and when they formed
that vessel a lot of times because of their experiences,
you're much better for it. Now. You fight Sean Brady
this week, and you were on a six fight win
streak before the last fight. When you got the call
that it was Sean Brady. That has to feel good, right,
because you just fought the former champion and while it
may not have gone the right way, you still be
(06:04):
one of the top contenders and with a victory over
him and just put you right back in line with
what you were hoping to get before.
Speaker 4 (06:11):
Possibly right, Uh, definitely, my mind is always on that title.
But I'm just looking to compete, and I feel like,
you know the person I'm competing against. Stylistically, for me,
it is the best person I can go up against,
you know. So with that being said, it's just thankful
man for the USC man for putting this fight, you
know what I mean, my way and just to do
(06:33):
what I do best.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
Right, Let's go out there and put on the show.
Speaker 3 (06:37):
What did you make of his last few performances? Obviously
they have not been what he would have wanted. But
the Micael Morales fight was almost shocking in the way
that it did. But can you take anything from that
because you're a guy that possesses that type of power too, No,
I can't.
Speaker 4 (06:53):
You know, this is a crazy part. I tell guys,
you know, I'm I'm big on mental. I'm big on mental.
Right to me, Sean Brady didn't want that fight with
Michael Morales.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
But but why the why buck? Why do you think
he didn't want that.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
Fight just because?
Speaker 4 (07:11):
You know when when you see Michael Morales, man, he's
an intimidating person.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
You know, very mass you know what I mean, not
small at all, you know, and when.
Speaker 4 (07:21):
You undefeated and he and he knocking out everybody, right,
you know, that's intimidating, you know, and especially when you
know that you never knocked nobody out on the feet.
You know, it can be a little brutal right mentally,
but don't get it twisted to me. I think Sean
Brady could have beat him if he didn't bet it
self mentally, you know, because he did had the tools
(07:41):
to beat Michael Morales, you know. But when you ain't
there and you're trying to prevent yourself from getting knocked out,
usually that's how you lead to get knocked out a
lot of times.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
In this fight, you're intimidating, but you're intimidating too. You
just said about the muscle and everything, but you're intimidating fighter.
Do you think, though, because of what happened in the
last fight Sean Brady, why.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
You expect him to be his best?
Speaker 2 (08:06):
Listen?
Speaker 3 (08:07):
I think that posture and your size and your ability
in a fight takes a part in that fight.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
Also, I always.
Speaker 3 (08:15):
Tell people you could beat people with your presence at time,
by being right in their face, impressed them and reminding
them of what happened last time. Can Sean Brady be
the same guy that he was going into the fight
prior to those fights that haven't gone his way?
Speaker 2 (08:30):
I think he's gonna be confident for multiple reasons. You
know what I mean. But yeah, yeah, I'm not intimidating
at all.
Speaker 4 (08:35):
Man, I'm the softest dude on the rost.
Speaker 1 (08:41):
Your division right now is on fire.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
You win this fight in impressive faster, you can put
yourself on the short list of people that can potentially
challenge the champion Islamakacha for the belt.
Speaker 1 (08:52):
But then you have the Michael Morales, you have the
Ian Gary, and now you.
Speaker 3 (08:56):
Have Carlos Protests, who looked amazing last week against Jack
Della Madelena.
Speaker 1 (09:02):
Where do you fit into all of this?
Speaker 3 (09:04):
Do you fit into a fight with a victory against
one of those guys, because that is kind of surprising, right,
all those names, even when you were on that six
fight win streak, you didn't necessarily seem to be mentioned
aligned with them as much as you probably should have.
Speaker 4 (09:24):
And it's okay, you know that that's the work that
I got put in just a little bit harder. But
do I do I feel like I'm in a mix
with those three nights?
Speaker 1 (09:32):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (09:33):
Of course, the Ian Gary's, the Carlos Protest and the
Mike Moreles. We're going to see each other. We're all
going to see each other. You know what I mean?
I would rather it be for a belt. But even
if it's not. You know, I told you man, I'm
just here to compete now, you know. So I'm blessed
to have the opportunity that I had off. You know,
as much as I really did want to compete, I
needed that time off, but just really showed me how
(09:55):
much I need to be an Octagon.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
I need to be here, you know, for my own
personal reason.
Speaker 3 (10:00):
Yeah, all right, guys, UFC three twenty eight is coming
up soon, so why not get with our friends at
hard Rock Bet.
Speaker 1 (10:07):

Speaker 3 (10:10):

Speaker 1 (10:15):
Like, that's pretty good.
Speaker 3 (10:16):
You only got to bet five, then you can win
one hundred and fifty and bonus bets.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
Hard Rock Bets understands that he wants you win.
Speaker 3 (10:23):
They want you a part of our family. Especially when
it comes to UFC three twenty eight.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
Yohamasad and Strickland.
Speaker 3 (10:29):
Is so bad and violent, this fight is gonna be bananas.
Then you got the champ, Josh Levan fighting Tatsuro Tyra,
who looked amazing in his fight less against the former
champion Brandon Moreno. This fight card is going to be bananas,
so make sure that you hook up with the people.
Are our people at hard Rock bet again. Bet only
(10:50):
five dollars. If that bet wins, get one hundred and
fifty dollars in bonus bets instantly at hard Rock. Bet

are someone you know has a gambling problem and wants help,
call one eight hundred nine with it. And if you
(11:34):
have a gambling problem call one eight hundred gambler.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
Buck.
Speaker 3 (11:38):
You were talking earlier in the week about the champion Islam,
and you were mentioning some things about him in his
title fight.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
How expedited it was.
Speaker 3 (11:46):
Now while some people go, well, Joaquin Buckley lost his
last fight. He shouldn't be talking about the champion. We
saw Sean Strickland shows be flippy hernandad to start talking
about the champion. Now he finds himself in that position.
Is this, are you making a concerted effort to go, Hey,
I would be ready for the Islam fight if given
(12:07):
the opportunity, and know that I'm here to also help
build a fight between me and ISLAMI kata because Ian
Gary is a tremendous fighter. But all those protests by
fighting the way he did, people are starting conversation.
Speaker 2 (12:22):
Yeah, what to do? Uh No, I'm not trying to
do nothing.
Speaker 4 (12:27):
I'm not trying to do nothing because at the end
of the day, you know, we don't control of those things.
Speaker 2 (12:33):
And unfortunately right now, you know, the fans.
Speaker 4 (12:35):
They got their own idea who they want to see,
you know, and to be honest with you, I just
give it to how I see it, right, Just so,
these are just all my opinions, so it don't make
it fact for sure. But when I spoke about Islam
and having the easiest matchup that he can get, obviously
it was JDM because how you go from winning the belt,
right obviously, right, Islam is a has definitely proven himself.
(12:57):
So it's not the fact that you know him winning
the belt, but it's gets who he did it against. Right,
I can't really put much to it because it was
the easiest matchup that he can get at the time.
Speaker 2 (13:06):
But now we see JDM off another l as bad
even worse.
Speaker 4 (13:10):
To be honest, we lost the title, right, so it's
just like JDM, no disrespect to him. But when he
got the title shot he was hurt like he had
gotten that his forearm broken by Gilbert Burns, right, you
know what I mean, and he had a staff infection
in all these different things. And to be honest with you,
I was like, bad, Like if this fight fall off
between shot.
Speaker 2 (13:28):
Coat and but Law, they got to call me. That's
what I'm thinking about here. They got to call me,
And that's straight.
Speaker 4 (13:33):
I remember when I was listening to the fight between
Belaw and JDM, you kind of announced they had a conversation.
Speaker 2 (13:40):
In the war room and Buckley name came up.
Speaker 4 (13:43):
But the fight just you know, into fruition, and I
was just like, Dad, I wonder why, you know what
I mean? But the thing is, though, who cares, you know,
I mean like it because it's not my time.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
Because even then, right usman, he still beat me.
Speaker 4 (13:57):
Right if I was if I had a world title,
if I got that whatever, it just showed me it
was another hole in my game where Islam could have
pretended now he would never have me crying.
Speaker 2 (14:05):
Now, I'll tell you that, bro.
Speaker 1 (14:11):
I love Jack.
Speaker 3 (14:13):
I love Jack, But Jack don't really lose good Man,
because last week he said ah, like in the Runners
Coach like, don't say ah. I'm like this time, like
all this ship hurts, like his prodtest, Like, Yo, he
don't be losing good I'll.
Speaker 1 (14:27):
Be feeling bad.
Speaker 3 (14:28):
I'll be feeling bad for Jack when when he's like
when he's k not going his way, you be feeling
bad for him. Even even Brisbane and was like, yo,
this is actually kind of hard to watch to watch.
Speaker 2 (14:37):
It was it was starting to get hard to watch. Man.
Speaker 4 (14:39):
But with all that being said, though, like this division
is very talented and we already know that, right, and
a lot of guys that get that belt don't keep
it long or in the Number one Contender series they
back down a number six, number five whatever, you know,
So it's just telling you how lethal this division.
Speaker 2 (14:56):
Is right now, But I feel like the three guys,
I feel like I didn't.
Speaker 4 (14:59):
I didn't had opportunities with one of them, which is
Ian Gary, and a potential fight which could have happened
between me and Protest uh and I thought me and
Michael Morales was gonna fight before him and Sean Brady,
but it never happened. So I feel like everything is
kind of just messing together just you know, how it
should right now.
Speaker 3 (15:16):
But also in hindsight now Toolumb's credit right, Jack had
just defended a whole bunch of takedowns from Belall, so
it seemed like it would potentially be a tougher fight
Waukau below can Russell, but but.
Speaker 4 (15:33):
You know, out of all people though, it's levels to everything, right,
it's levels to everything. And belaw Hey tremendous. You know,
it was a great champ. You know why lasted as well.
I feel like, uh he is not the same pedigree
when it comes to just the pure grapper, you know, uh.
Speaker 2 (15:55):
He he was a smart fighter.
Speaker 4 (15:56):
Below is a smart fighter that can't take the fight
where it needs to go. But even Ian Gary, he
he spoke about the same thing, like I was able
to stop every one of the lost shots. So that's
why you know, me going to against Islam is gonna
be different, right, He's not gonna be able to take
me down.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
But you can't look at it the brother, you know,
if to me.
Speaker 3 (16:14):
You think that's a little bit of a mistake by Gary, right,
like trying to con the Jack Dela mat Atlanta fight.
Speaker 4 (16:23):
Yeah, exactly right, exactly right. So my thing is the
most the simplest thing that you can do is a
room full.
Speaker 2 (16:31):
Of wrestlers, room full of wrestlers.
Speaker 4 (16:33):
Man, And it's crazy how like people don't understand that,
Like you really have to get in there with world
class guys or just even collegiate guys, you know what
I mean, and just and just work with them full time.
And I understand that Islam has other threats besides you know,
just the wrestling. He has the uh ensemble, you know
almost you know you trips, and then you know, obviously
if you get in that jiu jitsu right and and
(16:56):
put on your back, he definitely a handful because.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
What he got he got, he got the vice script,
you know what I mean. When he got you, he
got you.
Speaker 4 (17:03):
But I feel like if you stop the initial shots
and if you are able to stay and keep the
fight on the feet with protests. We need to do,
Michael Morales would need to do, Ian Garry Wol need
to do.
Speaker 2 (17:12):
Even myself.
Speaker 4 (17:13):
I have to say that, even myself, if I thought Islam,
I would have to keep it on the feet.
Speaker 2 (17:16):
It's keeping it on the feet, right, Yeah, that's the puzzle.
That's what you gotta saw. How do I stay on
my feet?
Speaker 3 (17:23):
Well, you having all this conversation about the champion on
the verge of a big fight. It really will if
you can win in the way that you hope to
win on Saturday, propel you into the conversation about what's
next for the champion. Because Islam, I know him personally,
is not a guy that likes to ignore when things
are coming this way. Obviously, looking we have Tremajavin strickling
this weekend based on Sean after he won in Houston.
Speaker 1 (17:45):
What do you make of that?
Speaker 2 (17:46):
Though?
Speaker 3 (17:46):
Like you see those guys this week, I can also
tell you hearing your answers on.
Speaker 1 (17:50):
The Law and Jack, I can see in your mind working.
Speaker 3 (17:54):
That's like you're trying to form things the right way
now more.
Speaker 1 (17:58):
Than you may have in the past.
Speaker 2 (18:00):
I'm just that.
Speaker 1 (18:01):
What do you think of this, uh, the Strickland tre
Mayah situation.
Speaker 2 (18:08):
I think it's a beautiful fight for for both of them,
you know.
Speaker 4 (18:11):
Obviously, man, it's a lot of build up and there's
a lot of noise you know, in between. But you know, me,
I'm more focused on what happens in that and that
after God, now, I'm not gonna lie. You know, Sean
Strickland showed out against Anthony Hernandez, you know, and uh
he put him out, you know, a good good body shot,
good need to the body and finished anth was it
was it later? I think it was like three and
(18:34):
so that just shows like Sewan still just you know,
got a good tank, right, good condition. But with Hamza, right,
you know, we already know the powerhouse that he is,
you know, and how dominant he is when he gets
in the positions that.
Speaker 2 (18:45):
He wants to get in.
Speaker 4 (18:46):
Uh So, if I'm Sean Strickland, right, I'm trying to
get well, you already know Hamsa hes gonna shoot in
the first ten seconds, so I rush that shot out
of him, you know, if I'm Sean Strickland and really
kind of put Hamsu on his heels because I really
you haven't seen Hamsat being backed up before, you know,
so if Shawn is looking for the ability to win
this fight, He's gonna have to back up Hams out
(19:08):
one hundred percent.
Speaker 2 (19:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (19:11):
Well, Joauquem Buckley, that is massive. Your fight this weekend
is massive.
Speaker 2 (19:15):
Guys.
Speaker 3 (19:15):
Joauquem Buckley takes on Sean Brady this weekend at UFC
three twenty eight. Make sure you tune in because this
dude is always involved in tremendous fights. Is gonna be
sick from Newark, New Jersey, and I cannot wait to
get there.
Speaker 1 (19:28):
Buckley, thank you for checking in again, my brother. I
appreciate it. Man to see this weekend. Yeah,
