Speaker 1 (00:00):
On with Mario Lopez.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Here we go. We made it the Friday they were
in in the week right, with actor Ernie Hudson joining
us a little later to talk season five of the
Family Business and of course Ghostbusters. My wife and I
are going to go ahead to head in another fun
fake debate, gonna dig into the buzz and just a
few songs away from talking new music with actress and
singer Victoria Justice. So turn it up, you're on with
Mario Lopez. So Mario Lopez driving now on Zoom. Actress

(00:27):
and singer Victoria Justice, welcome with the show of Victoria.

Speaker 3 (00:30):
Have you been Thanks Maria, I've been good. It's good
to see you a long time, no see.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
I know, it's great to see you. You look amazing
as always, And congratulations on the new single down What
inspired this song? Tell me about it?

Speaker 4 (00:47):
So I've been working with this incredibly talented songwriter and
producer by the name of Toby Gad and he's written
hits like Big Girls Don't Cry with Fergie and All
of Me with John Legend and If I Were a
Boy by Beyonce. It's like he's meg mega talented musical genius.
But it's been amazing getting to work with him again.
And we've been writing a bunch together and we collaborate

(01:07):
really well together. And we did a little weekend to
get away writing camp with two other really talented writers,
Will Jay and Emma Rosen and me Will j and Toby.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
One day, we were just staring at the ocean.

Speaker 4 (01:19):
It was so gorgeous, and Toby had this idea to
kind of make this dancey afrobeats track and I loved it.
I was like, summer's coming up, I would love to
make a dance record, and we decided to call it Down.
And at the time, I was dating someone and so
I was very much in this headspace of you know,
when it's like when you're first getting to know someone

(01:41):
and it's like hot and.

Speaker 3 (01:42):
Steamy and flirty, and it's.

Speaker 4 (01:44):
That like, you know, that's the feeling experience exactly. So
that's kind of drawing from all those feelings, and then
Down was written in a matter of hours.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
Nice. Well, you can hear Down on iHeartRadio or wherever
you get music. Hold on, I'm gonna take a little
break when I'm more with Victoria Justice.

Speaker 1 (02:01):
Mario Lopez coming up.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
Mario Lopez here talking new music with Victoria Justice. And
I know you just dropped a video for your song
raw right. Where'd you film that?

Speaker 4 (02:12):
I filmed it in La Actually, the first half of
the video is in black of white and it takes
place Toby actually let me use his house in the hills,
which is really nice of him because his house is
like gorgeous, and then we did the rest of like
a studio downtown.

Speaker 3 (02:27):
But yeah, it was really it was just like a
really chill, fun vibe. I had a good time.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
Nice. And when you went to your writing camp, was
that in Mexico?

Speaker 3 (02:38):
That was in Mexico?

Speaker 5 (02:38):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (02:39):
Where'd you go? Oh, writ and bond like a rose
Rino or where?

Speaker 3 (02:44):
I think? I think that area?

Speaker 6 (02:46):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
Yeah, Baja California. That's cool, that's cool. And now this
song is part of an album or an EP. We're
figuring it out.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
Yeah, we're figuring it out.

Speaker 4 (02:58):
I think like right now, I've kind of just been
writing songs and as I love them, kind of releasing
them waterfowl style. And I think my goal is to
eventually have that lead up to an EP or an album.
But I don't think I'm I don't I think I
have enough music to put out an album quite yet,
but that is absolutely the ultimate goal. It's my dream

(03:18):
to create a cohesive body of work that I'm super
proud of.

Speaker 3 (03:22):
So we're working towards that absolutely nice.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
Well, looking forward to hearing it. Hold on, Victoria, I
got to play more music right now. Mario Lopez here
hanging out with Victoria Justice and congrats. I hear your
appearing in the new spin off Suits LA.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
Yeah, I have a little guest spot on that. It
is very close.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
And did you shoot that in LA, because I know
oftentimes LA's shot yeah, Vancouver or something.

Speaker 3 (03:46):
It's it was definitely shot in Vancouver.

Speaker 2 (03:48):
Yeah, oh what not in Vancouver?

Speaker 3 (03:49):
Yeah, in Vancouver, But I just I just pulled.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
I don't even know.

Speaker 4 (03:54):
Listen, you've been in this business a long time, you
know about his works.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
That's funny.

Speaker 5 (03:59):
Yeah, but it was.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
It was really fun. The cast is incredible, Like, the
sets were amazing. I was blown away.

Speaker 4 (04:04):
I think they're doing the majority of it in Vancouver
and then doing like a week in LA to get like, yeah,
establishing shots, you.

Speaker 5 (04:11):
Know those sorts of things for sure.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
For sure, Well, we'll definitely be looking for you when
that premiere is. But right now, We've got to play
some music you're on Mario Lopez got Victoria Justice on
Zoom with me, who just released a new song down
And I gotta imagine releasing music independently now has got
to give you a lot more freedom, right or does
it put more work on your plate?

Speaker 3 (04:32):
I mean, I think it's a little bit of both.

Speaker 4 (04:34):
Yeah, it's uh, it definitely is nice to have the
creative freedom to.

Speaker 3 (04:39):
Write whatever I want to write and put it out
as I please. And you know, if I want to
make a video, I do it.

Speaker 4 (04:46):
I'm involved in the creative direction of everything, so it's
sometimes a lot of pressure and it's stressful also because
I'm like fully self funded right now, so I'm just
doing it all on my own. But you you know,
it's I think there's pros and cons to both.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
Yeah, no, I love it. And what about what about
touring or performing anything in the works?

Speaker 4 (05:08):
Possibly not at the moment, you know, I toured had
to been like ten years ago.

Speaker 3 (05:15):
So it's been so long since I've done that.

Speaker 4 (05:18):
The most recent performance I did was with Toby at
the Hotel Cafe, which is this like iconic little venue
and singer songwriter venue in Hollywood and we did Big
Girls Don't Cry Together, and I loved it. I was
I was honestly very nervous ta get back on stage
because it had been so long and I felt so rusty,
and I was.

Speaker 3 (05:35):
Very anxious about the whole thing. But as soon as
I got up there, I was like.

Speaker 4 (05:39):
Oh, this is why I love doing this, Like this
is really fun and it was. It was so cool
to have the audience like singing along with me and
to just feel that energy like you can't really, you
can't really ever replace that, you know, it's very special.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
No, you can't beat that at all. Well, I got
one more thing I want to ask you, but we
got to take a little break. I'm going to wrap
it up with Victoria Justice in just a moment.

Speaker 1 (05:58):
You're the full interview now on Mario Do More. Mario
Lopez on the way.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
Mario Lopez, You're wrapping things up with today's guest, Victoria Justice.
And you've also got a couple of movies on the horizon. Pravity.
Is it Depravity in California?

Speaker 6 (06:13):
King?

Speaker 4 (06:14):
Right?

Speaker 3 (06:15):
California King?

Speaker 4 (06:16):
Yeah, I mean Depravity is the most recent film project
that I've done.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
I filmed it in Thailand, last year. I loved the script.

Speaker 4 (06:23):
It's written by a writer named Paul Tamnessey who wrote
The Fighter with Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale and Ministry
of the Ministry of Gentlemanly Warfare I think, which just
came out recently.

Speaker 3 (06:37):
He's really a super.

Speaker 4 (06:38):
Talented writer and it's like a very dark, sexy thriller
and it definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone
and it was a it was a dramatic role for
me to step into, and I really enjoyed it.

Speaker 3 (06:52):
It was fun to get to do something so different.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
Yeah, I bet. And what about California King.

Speaker 4 (06:59):
California King was so much fun to do. I did
that a couple of years ago. Now, you know how
it goes with these indies. Sometimes you know, it's like
it's a great past I had a great time making it.
I think the finished product is great, but I don't
know exactly what's happening with it, so hopefully it comes
out soon.

Speaker 3 (07:13):
I'm just kind of.

Speaker 5 (07:14):
Yeah, just kind of waiting.

Speaker 2 (07:15):
No, I know exactly how it goes. We'll good for you, Firs,
staying as busy as as you have, and I'm looking
forward to checking out the new music and listen. You
can check out down on iHeartRadio or wherever you get
new music. Victoria, thanks for.

Speaker 3 (07:29):
Hanging out, please do Thanks Mario, Mario.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
Courney Lopez keeping the music in fun coming your way.
As my wife tells us, what obscure holiday we get
to celebrate.

Speaker 7 (07:38):
Today, today's National Beach Day.

Speaker 2 (07:39):
Well that makes sense considering Labor Day on Monday is
sort of the unofficial end of summer, even though summer
technically does an end till September twenty third.

Speaker 8 (07:50):
Sometimes in La not until October.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
Well, it's always bitch Day here in LA. But yes,
get out there and have some fun. Courtney Lopez to
for another fake debate where the topics are made up on.

Speaker 5 (08:03):
The spot, but the passion is real.

Speaker 2 (08:04):
Who's pro and who is con?

Speaker 9 (08:05):
Today you will be con and missus Lopez will be pro.
You have fifteen seconds make your case, ten second rebottal
your topic today since we missed it the other day
for a National dimple Day?

Speaker 8 (08:14):
Is dimples?

Speaker 2 (08:15):
Oh pro dimples?

Speaker 10 (08:17):
Dimples Dimples are even though they are a.

Speaker 7 (08:23):
Deformity, you're supposed to be pro.

Speaker 10 (08:26):
They are a positive deformity because they make you shine
when you're still being a little jerk, like even when
you're night, you're being me and Mario, you still look nice.

Speaker 8 (08:38):
Just took a turn that was not very pro No,
I'm saying they're good con dimples.

Speaker 2 (08:46):
Con. I can't think of a con for dimples, to
be honest, I'm kidding, I'm kiddy. You know their birth
effects in your face. I used to get teased. People
will call me Mario the Oreo. And my dad has them.
I have them now, both my sons have them. They're
going to be able to get away with a lot
more if they're charming and they're not really learning anything

(09:08):
because I don't know anything about math. And I put
that because I had nimples. You guys, I was able
to charm my teachers.

Speaker 8 (09:14):
You got through math by flashing your dimples?

Speaker 2 (09:16):
Yes, I charmed my teachers. He's like, okay, you get bat.

Speaker 10 (09:20):
You know, you can store things in them depending on
how deep they are, like an extra carry on on.

Speaker 8 (09:27):
A a you definitely take care of. So thanks, mister Lopez.

Speaker 2 (09:33):
And then people get dimples sometimes in the weirdest places.

Speaker 7 (09:36):
Oh, I have them all over my butt, right.

Speaker 2 (09:38):
So those kind of dimples we are not I'm a
fan of yours honey, but other people's I'm not so,
I hope.

Speaker 7 (09:43):
Not, I would hope not.

Speaker 1 (09:45):
Or Mario Lopez.

Speaker 2 (09:47):
Mario Lopez here with a quick reminder about the iHeartRadio
Music Festival September twentieth and twenty first in Vegas. Line
of a Stack too, coming like a bo du Aalipa
the weekend, whence the Fani about a dozen others. We're
also bringing back the festivals House some Music. It's where
you can immerse yourself in the lives and passions of
festival artists like Shaboozie, Doja Cat and Thomas Shrhett. Our

(10:09):
official streaming partner is Hulu, so you can watch it there,
but you can still see it live. Get the tickets
over it on with Mario dot Com. What a Mario
Lopez here and Nile Horn Drop, and not one, but
two live albums. First one comes out next Friday. It's
called The Show Live from Madison Square Garden from his
shows earlier this summer. Then on September fifth, we get

(10:30):
The Show Live on Tour, which includes performances from around
the world. Both are going to be available on vinyl
the week of Thanksgiving. All right, let's get back to
the music You're on Mario Courtney Lopez. Netflix pulling the
plug on its doc about Prince On.

Speaker 1 (10:46):
With Mario Lopez. Hollywood butt.

Speaker 2 (10:49):
So this is a bit of a bummer. For the
past four years, Netflix has been developing a six part
documentary on Prince It was made by the same director
who did oj in America. But now they'repletely scrapping it.
Apparently they'll watched a rough cut and it was filled
with dramatic factual inaccuracies and sensationalized depictions of his life.
Princess the state is withholding the rights to his music,

(11:11):
which would make any dock unwatchable. So that's the real
issue right there. I'm sure they wouldn't scrap it after
four years, but if the estate's not going to lend
any of his music, then that defeats the whole purpose. Wow,
what a waste of time.

Speaker 10 (11:24):
See this bothers me though, because a documentary is supposed
to be about this person, and when you make things
I get you do things that may be a little
bit more dramatic for TV, but inaccuracies and sensationalized depictions
of his life that aren't necessarily true like this, that's
not a documentary.

Speaker 2 (11:44):
This is according to his estate though, so maybe they
just don't want to see him portrayed that way. I
don't think they'd venture too far off because people can
then come back and sue you. But sometimes, unfortunately, and
I know because making documentaries, people don't want to have
their subjects perceived a certain way, even if it's true. Yeah,

(12:04):
they want to see things through a certain prism, So
it's unfortunate.

Speaker 1 (12:08):
More Mario Lopez coming up.

Speaker 2 (12:12):
Mario Lopez here, and I want to take congrats to
Ashanti and Nellie. She's announced the birth of her first baby.
It is a boy, Kareem Kencaid Hayes. All right. She's
also showing off her postpartum baby body. Congratulations. That's very cool.
You can check it out on Maria dot com. Mario

(12:42):
Courtney Lopez here. Today's guest should be zooming in any
minute now. It is actor Ernie Hudson. He just kicked
off a new season of the Family Business.

Speaker 10 (12:49):
Last We've got to talk about Ghostbusters and we'll get
into all of that after a few more songs.

Speaker 2 (12:55):
Toby and Mario Lopez joining on Zoom from Ghostbusters In
the Family Business. Actor Ernie Hudson. Welcome to the show, sir.

Speaker 8 (13:02):
How are you.

Speaker 11 (13:04):
I'm very good, so good to to always get to
talk to you.

Speaker 2 (13:07):
I'm good, thank you, thank you. Likewise, first off, man,
I gotta talk fitness right off the bat, because you
look incredible. You, sir, are seventy eight years old. You're
getting featured in Men's Health. I mean, bravo, so inspirational.
What are you doing to stay in such great shape?

Speaker 11 (13:24):
You know, nothing different than I've always done. Just do
the basic stuff, don't do the dumb suf Nothing has changed.
I'm a little bit surprised at the recent attention. It's
always welcome and nice, but I'm like, really, because nothing's changed.
But then someone said, well, maybe that's the thing. Nothing's shame,
you know.

Speaker 2 (13:45):
I think that is the thing. And is it true
you don't eat before noon?

Speaker 6 (13:49):
Yeah? I try not.

Speaker 11 (13:50):
I have no set rules that I don't absolutely do,
but yes, johinly speaking, I don't need anything before noon.

Speaker 2 (13:56):
Why is that?

Speaker 6 (13:58):
Well?

Speaker 11 (13:59):
I think your body needs time to eliminate whatever you're
putting into it. You know, when you're constantly eating breakfast, lunch,
dead era, snacking, your body it just doesn't have time
to process so it begins to store stuff in places
you really don't want. Right. That makes it so that
a little fasting time from seven till noon the next day.

(14:20):
It's really important. And fasting has always been good. If
you reach a point where you just things are just
slipping out of control, We're born a nice three, four
or five day fast.

Speaker 6 (14:32):
There's always a good way to reset.

Speaker 2 (14:35):
It really is. No calories there, exactly, exactly. All right, Well,
we got a lot to talk about. We're gonna take
a little breakdo We're gonna come back with Ernie Hudson
in just a moment.

Speaker 1 (14:44):
More fun on the way with Mario Lopez.

Speaker 2 (14:47):
Mario Lopez. Here, I got actor Ernie Hudson on Zoom
with Me. Season five of The Family Business just kicked
off with drama. Is Elsie Duncan facing the season?

Speaker 6 (14:57):
Yeah? Yeah, Elsie was in the middle hospital.

Speaker 11 (15:01):
His brother put him there in the last season, so
there was a little traumatic form. But now, of course
all of his adversaries sense a weakness and so they
kind of coming at him, and he knows he has
to step up to a new level to regain the
respect that he feels he rightfully deserves. And in this season,

(15:22):
a surprise the family that's always been so important to him.
Now there's a threat from within that he really can't
quite comprehend. But yeah, it's the intensity level is up
a new notch and it's really a lot of fun
to play.

Speaker 2 (15:38):
I bet well, you can watch The Family Business Thursdays
on beet Plus. Hold on, Ernie got a place more music?
What a mar A Lopez here? My guest today is
Ernie Hudson from the bet plus show The Family Business
And also in the works a horror film called Oswald
Down the Rabbit Hole. What's this about?

Speaker 11 (15:55):
Yeah, we haven't started shooting yet. In fact, I just
had a meeting about an hour ago with the the
writer producers.

Speaker 3 (16:02):
Uh.

Speaker 11 (16:02):
It's an animated sort of live action, an animated mixed
feature about an animator who started out with you know,
a Disneylight company back in the day and was sort
of discriminated against, and so he's he's out to sort

(16:24):
of get revenge or get even or make sense out
of it.

Speaker 6 (16:28):
So it's this this really Yes, it's really creepy, scary.

Speaker 11 (16:37):
And for me because it's uh, it's it's it's fun
because most of the work I've done over the years
have been really kind of family friendly, and I like that,
but every once.

Speaker 6 (16:47):
In alst things to sort of stepped into a different world.

Speaker 2 (16:50):
Yes, looking forward to that when it comes out. Asking
back to music, jal Mar Lopez hanging out with actor
Ernie Hudson. Ghostbusters Frozen and was a big hit earlier
in the year. Is that the last time you're going
to rock up Proton Pack? Or could there be another?

Speaker 11 (17:05):
Possibly? I love the franchise. I love I suppose even
as much as a franchise. I love the fan base
that have been drawn to the film for all these
many years, now spent forty years.

Speaker 6 (17:18):
They still love the film.

Speaker 11 (17:19):
They still put on their Proton Packs, And as long
as it's that kind of enthusiasm and loyalty, I'll always
want to be a part of it.

Speaker 6 (17:29):
Now.

Speaker 11 (17:29):
Of course, what the studio decides, it's just one thing,
But me personally, it's really an honor to sort of
represent this group of people who love it.

Speaker 2 (17:40):
What do you remember about auditioning for the original movie.

Speaker 11 (17:44):
Well, the audition process was I did a movie called
Space Hunter with Ivan Rightman, who produced and directed Ghostbusters.

Speaker 6 (17:49):
Oh so familiar, Okay, Yeah, you know.

Speaker 11 (17:52):
Harold Ramis was one of the writers on that we
shot Space Hunt. Peter Strauss and Molly Ringwall wore my
co stars. There was a year before Ghostbusters, and when
I heard about Ghostbusters, I.

Speaker 6 (18:06):
Couldn't get an interview.

Speaker 11 (18:07):
I think the character I played at Space Hunter was
bigger than life character. My head was shaved, you know.
I've spoken a little register and just one of those dynamic,
powerful kind of guys, which is all wrong for Ghostbusters.
And I think Ivan saw me as that character, and

(18:27):
I'm like, no, that's that's the part I'm playing.

Speaker 6 (18:30):
I'm an actor, It's not who I am.

Speaker 11 (18:32):
And so after really about three months of knowing people
going in to read for the part, they finally gave
me a chance to come in and I just, you know,
I just.

Speaker 2 (18:44):
Owned the room.

Speaker 6 (18:46):
At least that's how I felt.

Speaker 11 (18:47):
But even after that happened, they still were determined to
find someone else.

Speaker 2 (18:52):
Dang, Ivan, Weightman, I work with you. Where's the loyalty here?

Speaker 1 (18:56):
I was?

Speaker 6 (18:57):
I think they just anybody but Earnie. But damn, but
I always some.

Speaker 11 (19:03):
Of those parts you go, you know, no, this is
my role, so let's accept it. We're doing this together.
And it was challenging, but but I'm so like I
said forty years later, now I only have fun memories.

Speaker 6 (19:16):
It took me a minute to get there, but.

Speaker 2 (19:18):
Yeah, I'm glad everything worked out. One more thing I
want to ask you, but we've got to take a
little break. We're gonna wrap it up with Ernie Hudson
in just a moment.

Speaker 1 (19:24):
You're the full interview now at on with Mario dot com.
More Mario Lopez on the way.

Speaker 2 (19:30):
Mario Lopez here wrapping things up with our guests Ernie Hudson.
And last question, is it true you have three great grandchildren?

Speaker 6 (19:37):
Yeah? Yeah, my yeah, I have three great friends. I
have four.

Speaker 11 (19:41):
Sons, I have five grandkids. You know, I had a
son my first time was born when I was nineteen.
My son's son was born when he was twenty and great,
so he had up for years. You know, it's it's
hard to do. You're really stupid. You don't think about it.

Speaker 6 (20:05):
Yeah, I got all these kids're going to cause you money,
all right.

Speaker 11 (20:08):
But yeah, so my oldest man's son is thirteen now,
and then I have a ten year old grandson, and
I have a granddaughter who's fifteen but not biological.

Speaker 6 (20:18):
So wow that yeah, great kids, great kids.

Speaker 2 (20:22):
Well, they're lucky to have a great grandfather. A great grandfather,
I should say. That's awesome, Very nice to speak with you, Ernie.
I hope I get to see in person soon and
keep up all the great work, my friend. You can
watch new episodes of the Family Business Thursdays on b
ET plus season one through for our streaming right now
on Netflix. Will be sure to check that out or any

(20:43):
things for hanging out.

Speaker 6 (20:44):
Always good seeing you, man. Take care of you, all.

Speaker 8 (20:47):
Right, me too, buddy, Take care.

Speaker 2 (20:50):
Al Mario, Courtney Lopez Fraser. What were you going to say?

Speaker 9 (20:53):
I just want to quickly say that this Sunday is
a very special day for someone. Nichols Knuckles is hitting
the fourth level. Wow, you're hitting the fourth level, Nichols.
That's pretty good. Hey, September first, that September one already.

Speaker 5 (21:06):
Huh, somehow I'm turning forty. I don't know. It's crazy, dude.

Speaker 2 (21:10):
That's aw eight. Fourth level was my favorite decading life.

Speaker 5 (21:14):
Yeah, I look forward to it. Doesn't bother me getting older.

Speaker 2 (21:17):
It's the best decade. I was thinking about you yesterday too,
because I saw the movie Horizon. Kevin Costner Western right,
and Luke Wilson is in it, and I was like, dang,
there's Nichols right there, man all over and he's good
