Speaker 2 (02:28):
You are Mark Courtney Lopez. It's time to just have
some common sense.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
Just as all rise, Courtney's court is now in session,
and this is from at Jess Bailey. They say, my
husband and I are working on our will. We're gonna
split our assets among our three children, but we don't
want our son's wife to benefit.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
Ooh.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
She's cheated and gambled his money in the past, but
he stayed with her.

Speaker 3 (02:50):
We're thinking of making a trust that won't become active
unless they divorce or she passes. Oh, what's the best
way to explain this to our son. You know what,
I see where the parents are coming from. But this
is a this is this is a tough one.

Speaker 6 (03:06):
Okay, Wow, I understand where you're coming from because she
has a history of these things that she has done,
cheating and gambling. It's not that you just don't like her.
She has done these things in the past. I you
know what, I agree with you.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
I agree.

Speaker 6 (03:24):
I've seen many instances where the children find out about
the parents will after they pass away.

Speaker 5 (03:32):
Sometimes it's been changed, and so.

Speaker 6 (03:35):
I would just do that because what are they gonna do?

Speaker 2 (03:38):
And you know what, you're not gonna be around to
find Now.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
More Mario Lopez coming up, Mario Lopez here.

Speaker 3 (03:45):
Today's guest is an Oscar winner with more than two
hundred TV, film and stage credits.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
Actor JK. Simmons. His new movie is Little Brother.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
But I want to talk about Whiplash, Santa Clint Eastwood,
whole bunch of stuf.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
We're gonna have JK zoom in after a few more songs.
It's up on more.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
R Elopez joining me now on zoom Oscar Winny actor
a man j K.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
Simmons, Welcome to the show, sir, how are.

Speaker 4 (04:06):
You, Thanks, Mario, I'm well, good to see you.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
Very nice to see you. Congratulations on your newest movie.
It is now in theaters, Little Brother.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
What's the premise in this one?

Speaker 7 (04:16):
Well, it's unfortunately all too familiar to many of us,
if not most of us.

Speaker 4 (04:24):
Two brothers.

Speaker 7 (04:25):
The older has been suffering with mental health issues most
of his life, has attempted suicide on multiple occasions, and
the little brother is trying to help.

Speaker 4 (04:37):
And then I come.

Speaker 7 (04:38):
Into the movie a few times as the sort of stern,
distant father who is like lots of fathers of my generation, just.

Speaker 4 (04:50):
Real equipped to try and deal with it.

Speaker 3 (04:53):
All subject matter that's incredibly relevant today. And I love
all the different choices you make with your films. I
recently I saw you with my buddy Mark Wahlberg and
Halle Berry, which is I believe the number one film
trending on Netflix still, if not, it was for a
few weeks. So congrats on that. We've got a lot
to talk about, but I need to play some more
music right now. Joel mar Lopez got JK. Simmons on

(05:16):
Zoom with me. Is the movie is a Little Brother,
and Whiplash is returning to the theaters for its tenth
anniversary classic There, What do you remember when you first
read that script Whiplash?

Speaker 7 (05:29):
Yes, well, more than maybe anything. And this has happened
to me, you know, many times in my career, too
greater or lesser extents. It just it just leapt.

Speaker 4 (05:40):
Off the page and into my being.

Speaker 7 (05:42):
And I was like, every time I turned a page
and read another scene between you know, mostly between these
two characters, I was like, yeah, that's yes, Yes, I
get that, that's me. There's just I might not be
the best actor on the planet, but I'm the guy
for this part. There's just nobody that's gonna, you know,

(06:03):
understand this and get inside this as well as I will,
because because it's already there, it's already leapt into my consciousness.
And then, you know, we made the short film with
Johnny Simmons playing Neman, and and then whatever. Fifteen months later,
Miles and I are hit the ground running and made it,
you know, a piece of synema that that we're all

(06:26):
still inordinately proud of and justifiably so. And that kid
Damien has you know, done a couple of other things
since then.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
Yeah, No, awesome team y'all put together right there.

Speaker 3 (06:38):
Whiplash reiturns to theaters on Friday. Got to take a break,
So hold on, I'm gonna go more with JK coming up.

Speaker 1 (06:43):
More, Mario Lopez, coming up, Mario Lopez.

Speaker 3 (06:47):
My guest today is JK. Simmons, and I'm excited about this.
You're playing Milton Burrell legend and the new movie about
Saturday Night Live.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
That must have been a lot of fun.

Speaker 4 (06:56):
Well if by fun you mean scary as hell.

Speaker 7 (06:59):
Yeah, really, and what's intimidating when you and Jason you know,
informed me that that was the role I was playing
in the movie.

Speaker 4 (07:10):
You know, I was. I grew up, you know, not
listening to rating, you know.

Speaker 7 (07:16):
But but you know, Mittonborough was very much a part of,
you know, the American entertainment landscape when I was a kid.
And by the way, I think I'm the only cast
member that was actually watching Saturday Night Live in nineteen
seventy five and my sister's crappy college apartment. Yeah, it

(07:36):
was very intimidating, and Jason, you know, wisely counseled all
of us in the cast not to be too concerned
with trying to do a spot on impersonation and just
kind of try to get the gist of.

Speaker 4 (07:49):
Who the person was.

Speaker 7 (07:50):
And I did a lot of research for my you know,
three and a half minutes on camera and had some
great scene partners and had a really really fun time
as I always do on a Jason Ryman movie. And
it's the movie is. I finally saw it at Toronto
at Tiff with an audience, you know, in a big

(08:10):
giant theater.

Speaker 4 (08:11):
It just it plays great.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
Oh nice, Oh that's cool. You're happy with the way
it turned out.

Speaker 3 (08:15):
Well, that comes out October eleventh, day after my birthday.
Hang on, JK, let's play more music. I got Oscar
winner JK. Zimmons on with me today. You're on Mario
Lopez and in November.

Speaker 2 (08:27):
Getting into the holiday spirit.

Speaker 3 (08:28):
You've got an action movie called The Red One with
the Rock where you're playing Santa Claus.

Speaker 2 (08:33):
It looked I saw the trailer looked aza.

Speaker 4 (08:36):
You know what, I hate trailers and and and what
wait whit wait? Hold on?

Speaker 2 (08:42):
Why do you hate trailers?

Speaker 5 (08:43):
Number one?

Speaker 2 (08:43):
Why do you hate trailers?

Speaker 7 (08:44):
Well, first of all, because I'm like the no spoiler police,
you know, I mean I really like to you know,
and this goes back to my theater days, which is
naive and dumb in either scenario, But like, I like
to just go be surprised by everything. I like to
go sit down and have somebody tell me a story
for you know, an hour and a half to three
hours or you know, whatever it may be, and you know,

(09:08):
not look for those kinds of things. Obviously, you have
to market a movie. You have to get butts into seats,
and I understand it. So I love when they do
a trailer that that really gives you a good sense
of the movie without sort of giving away all the
best stuff. And that movie was an absolute treat. Speaking
of intimidating, I'm reading the script. I'm on like page

(09:28):
twenty and I see, oh, here we go with Santa
Claus and Missus Claus and they're in the gym and
he's warming up for his workout, and then the Rock
comes in and has a scene in the gym with JK.
Simmons and Dwayne Johnson, and I'm like, I mean, are
you kidding me?

Speaker 2 (09:46):
Come on, that's awesome. That's awesome. I'm sure I'll be
watching that with my kids. That's gonna be great. Red
Wine comes out November fifteen. Let's get back to music.

Speaker 3 (09:55):
You're al Mario Lopez, been hanging out all hour with
actor JK. Simmons, and you're also going to be in
Clint Eastwood's final movie, Juror number two. I was just
with his son coincidentally over the weekend. Talk about a
legend right there.

Speaker 4 (10:09):
I mean, unbelievable. And when that first came my way, I.

Speaker 7 (10:13):
Was my my agent was, you know, being a good
agent and said, you.

Speaker 4 (10:19):
Know, it's a supporting part.

Speaker 7 (10:21):
I don't know if it's really enough, you know, And
I was like, are you kidding me? It's Clint Eastwood.
I mean, how am I going to not? I mean
before I even read it. And then I read it
and I was like, wow, this is a really fall
fun supporting part, interesting you know part, and uh and
a you know, really interesting uh screenplay sort of twister.

Speaker 4 (10:40):
And uh and.

Speaker 7 (10:42):
A great cast you know, was was already mostly assembled and.

Speaker 4 (10:45):
And you know it's Clint EASTWOODE.

Speaker 7 (10:47):
So yes, of course I'm going to do the movie,
which unfortunately was interrupted by the strike, which uh derailed
us like it did so many other And then and
then we came back and it was like, you know,
like we hadn't missed a beat when we came back
in the fall to finish it.

Speaker 2 (11:04):
I can't wait to see that one.

Speaker 3 (11:05):
I'm familiar with the story.

Speaker 2 (11:06):
It sounds really cool.

Speaker 3 (11:07):
We got one more thing I want to ask, but
we've got to take a break. I'm gonna wrap it
up with JK. Simmons in just a moment.

Speaker 1 (11:11):
You're the full interview now on with Mario dot Com.
More Mario Lopez on the way.

Speaker 2 (11:17):
Mario Lopez here wrapping things up with actor JK. Simmons.

Speaker 3 (11:20):
And lastly, your daughter is an actress, your son a composer.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
That's awesome. Did you did you encourage them to get
into the entertainment industry?

Speaker 3 (11:29):
Was it just something by chance they discovered on their
own and what we were thought going out toime?

Speaker 7 (11:33):
We encourage them to, you know, to follow their passion.
You know, my wife and I met doing theater, So.

Speaker 3 (11:41):
Did my wife and I She's I'm sorry, my wife
and I met doing theater, so yes, okay.

Speaker 1 (11:48):
Uh.

Speaker 7 (11:48):
She's reinvented herself several times and actually is now a filmmaker, writer, director,
and the last film of hers, you Can't Run Forever,
features me are daughter and our.

Speaker 4 (12:01):
Son did the entire soundtrack. So that was a great joy.

Speaker 7 (12:06):
And I mean I shake my head at times like,
oh my god, really I got an actor and a musician,
you know, like what can they be?

Speaker 4 (12:13):
A doctor? You know, something something less terrifying.

Speaker 7 (12:21):
But you know they're they're following what they love and
you know, just beginning to find their way. And if
it takes a little delivering grub hub and waiting tables
along the way before they get really established, and you know,
I'm knocking on wood, I hope they they can find

(12:41):
a career paths that are fulfilling and something close to
as fortunate as I've been.

Speaker 2 (12:48):
That's awesome and that project must have been so cool
and special to work with. Congratulations on everything.

Speaker 3 (12:54):
We are going to check out A Little Brother, which
is in theaters now.

Speaker 2 (12:58):
JK. Thank you so much for hanging out. Hopes in
person soon.

Speaker 4 (13:01):
Yeah, take care, Mark, take care.

Speaker 2 (13:16):
Mario Lopez. Here was some quick buzz for you. Miley
Cyrus being sued over her mega hit Flowers.

Speaker 3 (13:22):
It's been all over social media. The company that owns
the Bruno Mars song When I Was Your Man says
Miley copied some of their property when she wrote the
track Bruno himself isn't part of the suit. Is believe
that Miley was definitely inspired by the Bruno song, but
the two tracks don't seem to have many obvious similarities.
The song's been out for I feel a couple of.

Speaker 5 (13:42):
Years now, Flowers at least been on our countdown for
like a year and a half.

Speaker 3 (13:45):
Yeah, and it hasn't left the countdown so interesting that
they're hitting it with a suit.

Speaker 2 (13:49):
Now, you know, Mario Lopez, time to get your comments.
What do we got?

Speaker 5 (13:54):
This is from at the Notorious Omb. Thank Mario drives
all over the city for food trucks. Meanwhile I post
taco bell from down the street.

Speaker 2 (14:01):
Yeah, men. Notorious Omb is probably referring to.

Speaker 3 (14:05):
An article I posted with the BBC where they asked
me my favorite Mexican food spots.

Speaker 5 (14:12):
He is doing British interviews now, what's happening?

Speaker 2 (14:14):
Yeah, I don't know. That was what weird deal they
asked me. And I'm a big food guy.

Speaker 3 (14:18):
Now, I'm like a little fat kid at heart, so
I'm all about food and I do love food. And
one of the reasons I do like to exercise this
so I can eat what I want and love me
some Mexican food, of course. So I think I put
together a pretty solid list of great spots here in
the LA area if you find yourself here. So check
out the BBC article I posted on my social Get

(14:40):
us up.

Speaker 1 (14:40):
On Twitter, Get on with Mario and hang on more.
Mario Lopez on the way.

Speaker 2 (14:45):
Mario Lopez, here was some quick buzz for you. These
charges against Diddy are very serious.

Speaker 3 (14:50):
We've got sex, trafficking, kidnapping, arson, bribery, obstruction of justice,
fed say more charges are still on the table. You
could be facing fifteen years to life in prison per count.
His lawyer says, he may be imperfect, but he is
not a criminal. It doesn't sound like that life comes.

Speaker 2 (15:10):
At you fast. What on Mario Lopez here, Let's take
a look what's training On the Ieheart.

Speaker 5 (15:15):
Radio app, Howard Sarn talks with Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes
and Will R. Netts find that by searching SmartLess.

Speaker 2 (15:21):
I love me some.

Speaker 3 (15:22):
Jason Bateman, he's changed his look. I don't know if
you've seen it. He's starting to look like the Geico
caveman he is.

Speaker 5 (15:26):
He has gone full caveman at this point. It's and
I don't know if it's for a role or just
he's giving up. Jojo shares a sneak peak of her
new book and her role on Broadways Mulan Rouge. You
can listen to that by searching for Las Colta ristas
we began and Eric Wins revealed his cocktail of choice
when he was first hitting the bars, and it's hilarious.

Speaker 2 (15:46):
It was embarrassing.

Speaker 5 (15:47):
Actually, you can find that by searching all with Mario.

Speaker 3 (15:52):
You're on Mario Courney Lopez's time for today's celebrity birthdays.

Speaker 2 (15:55):
We're gonna try to get the ages. What do we got?

Speaker 5 (15:58):
Jason Sudeikis from Ted Lasso snl.

Speaker 2 (16:03):
Ted Ted Ted.

Speaker 6 (16:05):
Jason is.

Speaker 2 (16:08):
Forty eight.

Speaker 5 (16:09):
I'm gonna say he's hitting the fifth level. Fifty forty nine.

Speaker 2 (16:12):
Oh, very close. We sandwiched him.

Speaker 5 (16:15):
Someone you ran into recently at the boxing gym. James Marsden, My.

Speaker 2 (16:19):
Boy, James Marsden. He is fifty one.

Speaker 6 (16:24):
James is.

Speaker 5 (16:29):
What did you say?

Speaker 2 (16:29):
Fifty one?

Speaker 5 (16:31):
Fifty two? I think you have an unfair advantage. He
is fifty one. And finally, I'm actually scared to say
her name kind of Jada Pinkett Smith.

Speaker 2 (16:40):
You better keep her name out of your mouth. Keep
her name out of your mouth.

Speaker 5 (16:43):
Full duck.

Speaker 6 (16:45):
Jada is fifty seven.

Speaker 3 (16:49):
Jada's very pretty and looks great regardless of her little
spicy attitude. Jada, I'm gonna say, is fifty three.

Speaker 5 (17:00):
Jada is fifty three.

Speaker 3 (17:01):
Hey, pretty good.

Speaker 1 (17:05):
Mario Lopez coming up, Mario.

Speaker 2 (17:07):
Lopez here, and every day is a holiday around here.

Speaker 3 (17:10):
Today we are celebrating National Cheeseburger Day. When you haven't
had a cheeseburger in a while, it just hids different,
just like fried chicken. If you ever had some good
fried chicken in a while, it really hits different. Now
if you ask me my favorite cheeseburger would come from,
and I hesitate because I'll give you my mount Rushmore.

Speaker 5 (17:31):
How's that okay?

Speaker 3 (17:32):
In no particular order, in and out shake shack irvs Burgers,
which is excellent.

Speaker 5 (17:40):
You've already messed up. And because you didn't say Wallburgers.

Speaker 3 (17:44):
And my boy, Wallburgers, I was saving the best for laugh,
saving the best for laugh. That's the Mount Rushmore. Mario Lopez.
Here was some quick buzz for you, Jersey short Star Mike.
The situation Serrentino getting into the recovery game. He's launching
his own addiction treatment centers called the Archangel Centers there
for anyone twelve and older, and services include detox therapy

(18:07):
and after care. First one will open his doors early
next year in New Jersey. Wow, we've come a long
way since the Jersey Shore.

Speaker 2 (18:14):
Good for him. Hopefully you'll help allive you So Everyonemar
and Courtney Lopez and Fraser what were you just saying?

Speaker 5 (18:20):
So when I work out in the mornings, I've been
going through all these like Apple playlists that they put together,
and someone were like rock hits from nineteen seventy three,
like by year, or it's one hit Wonders by Decade,
which I just started, And the one that I listened
to this morning was one Hit Wonders of the nineties. Okay,
but I think there's a problem with this list and
that the first four artists, which is where I stopped,

(18:41):
I don't believe or one hit Wonders. You tell me
if you think they are Okay. The first one was
Vanilla Ice. Well, I Ice Ice Baby obviously is a song.

Speaker 3 (18:51):
No, it's a huge monster hit, monster hit. Did he
have sort of like a somewhat baby hit. He might
have had a baby hit.

Speaker 5 (18:58):
He was on the Teenage Mutant Turtles two soundtrack with
Go Ninja Go.

Speaker 2 (19:02):
Yes, but that wasn't on the charts.

Speaker 5 (19:04):
That's okay. There was one more.

Speaker 2 (19:07):
Play that funky music he cover, but.

Speaker 3 (19:09):
That was just that a cover or actually Ice Ice
Baby was also David Bowie. But yeah, I still think
because his monster hit was just that's so big he's thought.

Speaker 5 (19:20):
Of Okay, all right, so that questionable. The second one Hammer.

Speaker 3 (19:24):
No, No, he's got a lot of hits, a lot
of hits. Pumps in a bump, pumps, No he's got
and no, no, no, he's no no mc hammer.

Speaker 5 (19:35):
No, this list is very questionable. The third on the
lit was Hanson, which I thought like, okay, maybe, but
then Kyle reminded me, no, they had another hit.

Speaker 4 (19:43):
What was it?

Speaker 3 (19:45):
Yes, yes, but again they had such a big monster
hit it's almost overshadowed.

Speaker 5 (19:50):
Al that's the thing.

Speaker 7 (19:51):
I was.

Speaker 2 (19:51):
The thing about Hammer, the criteria was but going back.

Speaker 3 (19:55):
With Hammer, there's not one hit like, oh you just
think of Hammer because of this one song. He he's
got a bunch of songs. Yeah, don't hurt him, have
her there's fun. There's a bunch of songs. Yeah, that's
a weird.

Speaker 5 (20:04):
Time, and then the fourth one. The fourth one was
the Cranberry's which they had Linger and Zombie at least.
So there's two, No, those are two. That's not a
one hit. Dang this this is hard chorus together but
they don't know music.

Speaker 1 (20:14):
No more Mario Lopez on the.

Speaker 2 (20:16):
Way, so bro Mario Courtney Lopez Talber. One last thing.

Speaker 3 (20:21):
I had a very nice conversation with my middle son,
Dominic this morning.

Speaker 2 (20:26):
He told me, Dad, I think I want to change
my wig. I go, yes, no more, I'll pack up.

Speaker 3 (20:32):
I'm very excited because all these young teens he's not
even attain He literally just turned eleven a couple of
days ago, have these this puffy sort of just and
in the back is sort of like a mullet. So

I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before.
