Black Current is about to have a major moment McCormick
Flavor of the Year for twenty twenty six. They say
the trend fhisul right into time when people are cooking
at home more and creating tiny splurges that feel luxurious
without having to break the bank.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
Okay, now, you may think you hardly ever see anything
on a menu with Black Current, but McCormick says it's
coming and around the world they are already seeing Black
Current popping up and everything from cocktails to glazes.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
All you are Mario Courtney Lopez for more songs. I'm
going to fire up zoom to chat with John Residik
from the Goo Dolls back to talk Christmas music and more.
Next Marlopez joining me right now in zoom. John Reznik
of the Goo Dolls, what's going on?
Speaker 7 (04:04):
John? Hey? How are you man? Good to see you?
Speaker 2 (04:07):
And now good Dolls that made their mark on the
holiday season. The album It's Christmas All Over was released
a couple of years ago. It's become a Christmas tradition
and a lot of households, a lot a lot of
a lot of artists, you know, jump on jump into
holiday songs. What motivated the dolls to get involved? Uh, COVID,
that'll that'll motivatehl lovel all the time.
Speaker 7 (04:28):
Huh yeah, I mean it was in It was right
in the middle of COVID and we were going crazy, uh,
with no work. And then and then we had always
talked about doing you know, we had always done a
Christmas song here or there, but we wanted to make
an album, and I wanted to make it be reminiscent
of the older albums, you know, the older Christmas albums,
(04:48):
like the rat Pack type Christmas records and stuff.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
Love that.
Speaker 7 (04:51):
So it was it was a lot of fun making it,
and you know, we tried to make it sound kind
of old and trashy and you know, and we wrote
a a couple of originals for it and did a
lot of standards too, So it was fun.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
Well, one of those is this is Christmas, which I
know you co wrote. Tell me about that one.
Speaker 7 (05:08):
Yes, This is Christmas. I mean that says it all.
It's like, it's it's more a song about the real
meaning of Christmas, of course, you know, just about the
importance of family and friends at Christmas time, you know.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
Yeah, no, absolutely, and that's what it's all about the time.
Speaker 7 (05:29):
My personal favorite song on the record is a song
called you Ain't Getting Nothing.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
You Ain't Getting Nothing. Wait, I love that title.
Speaker 7 (05:35):
Getting Nothing, and it's just about a rotten little kid
just get nothing for Christmas.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
That's original. I like that that song can be turned up,
that song can be turned into a holiday movie. I
like that, all right, Hank tyme more with Google Dolls.
John Rasnik coming up.
Speaker 6 (05:51):
Happy Holidays to you and yours. This is on with
Mario Lopez.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
Won't be right.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
Back catching up with John Resnick of the Goo Dolls.
This Hour with Mario Lopez, and we were just talking
about the holiday album he dropped a few years ago.
Title track is It's Christmas All Over, a song made
famous by the late great Tom Petty. Tell us about
that song becoming the name of the album as well. Well.
Speaker 7 (06:15):
I'm a huge fan of Tom Petty.
Speaker 4 (06:18):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (06:19):
He's always been one of my favorite songwriters, and as
a grown older, uh, he's become my absolute favorite songwriter.
He's my favorite rock star was my favorite rock star,
and he just had this thing like you. He was
just he always got to the point with his music.
And I really loved that. And then I heard that
(06:41):
I heard I heard his version of that song and
and and I was like, wow, this is amazing. So
why not do it? We always do a Tom Petty
song in our show. I have no idea why, but
we always wanted to do a Tom Petty.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
You cover different songs or the same song from Tom Yeah.
Speaker 7 (06:56):
You know, like American Girl, I need to know songs.
You know, there's a few other ones that we were doing.
It's just he's he's he's up there like you know
him Springsteen, Paul Westerberg, you know those guys.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
I love when artists pay respect to other artists and
you get to hear their rendition. It's really cool. I
love hearing that. All Right, hang time, man, little music.
We're gonna come back with John Mario Lopez talking all
things Christmas with John Resnik from the Gooo Dolls this hour,
and we were just talking about cover songs, and speaking
of covers, you can't get more traditional than let it Snow.
I mean, everyone from Dan Frank to Bouble Rod Stewart,
(07:34):
they've all done a version. Why did that song make
the cut for you?
Speaker 7 (07:38):
You know, it was just a song that we liked,
you know, it was a song that we liked and
I thought we could do it decently, you know.
Speaker 2 (07:49):
So it was like it was fun. We just did
songs that.
Speaker 7 (07:51):
We wanted to do that we wanted to hear different
versions of you know.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
Yeah, you know.
Speaker 7 (07:56):
So the album kind of it ebbs and flows mood wise,
it's funny and then some of it is, you know,
kind of touching, and you know, on the verge.
Speaker 2 (08:05):
Of SAP, you ain't getting nothing, you ain't getting nothing.
I'd love that, all right? Eight time more with John
coming up after a little more music. Getting back to
John Resnick from the Goo Dolls. He're on with Mario
Lopez and looking beyond Christmas. What can we expect from
the Goo Dolls.
Speaker 7 (08:22):
Well, we're doing let's see, we're gonna get through the holidays.
Speaker 1 (08:28):
We're doing.
Speaker 7 (08:30):
We're playing at the Beacon Theater for Joe Torre's Safe
at Home Foundation, Nice, which is an amazingly great cause.
You should look it up if you can. And Joe Tory,
he's a legend and it should just.
Speaker 2 (08:45):
Be in the room with him.
Speaker 7 (08:46):
You sense that greatness about him, and him and his
wife are just such wonderful kind people. It's just such
a pleasure to be able to work with them and
a great organization.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
No, that's really cool, all right, John hank Tight, I
want to do a little holiday on the spot quick break,
and we're gonna come back and wrap it up.
Speaker 6 (09:05):
The countdown at Christmas continues in moments. This is on
with Mario.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
Lopez wrapping up with Goo Goo Dolls. John Resnick, You're on,
Mario Lopez, and before you go, I gotta put you
on the spot with some holiday questions for you right here. Okay,

Speaker 7 (09:22):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (09:23):
Oh?
Speaker 7 (09:24):
The uh? The the leg lamp from a Christmas story.
Speaker 2 (09:28):
That's a good one. That's a good one.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (09:30):
Which fictional holiday character do you relate to the most?
Speaker 7 (09:33):
Oh, gosh, I'm gonna say Ralphie from a Christmas story.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
Here you go, all right, there's a theme. What's your uh,

what do the holidays mean to you?
Speaker 7 (10:44):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (10:45):
Hope, hope.
Speaker 7 (10:47):
Got to have hope, man, you know, I mean, I've
lived life without hope and I've lived life with hope,
and it's so much better with hope.

Speaker 2 (12:58):
Mario Courtney Lopez here. New survey from the Real Christmas
Tree Board says the scent, the vibe, the whole presence
of a real tree wins by nearly eighty percent of us.
Speaker 3 (13:08):
Come on, you know, folks who have made the switch
to a real tree says it lifted their whole holiday experience,
made their homes feel warmer and more festive. The smell
of a tree is the number one favorite Christmas sent
followed by cookies. Cinnamon was third, hot cocoa is fourth,
and gingerbread rounding out the top five. I grew up
with a real tree, and when I became an adult,
(13:32):
I went to artificial. It's just easier, Nope, one less
thing I don't have to keep alive.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
And they've come such a long way. The quality is
really really good now. It's a better investment, obviously, more
eco friendly. Your dogs don't go messing with it, and
you don't have to clean up all the pine needles.
Speaker 7 (13:50):
Hello.
Speaker 3 (13:51):
