Speaker 1 (00:01):
It is the best of two pros and a couple
of Joe with Lamar Areas and Rady Quinn and Jonas
Knocks on Fox Sports Radio. Oh what's up? Good morning everybody.
You know, Jeff Schwartz. We're pulling an okay doke right
from the beginning here. It's uh, myself, Brian No and
(00:22):
you Jeff Schwartz, coming to you a live from the
Fox Sports Radio studios. How's everything going with you there, Jeff?
Everything good? Well, I woke up to the sad news
of an offensive tackle Terry hamstring, So otherwise I'd be
very joyous this morning, and I'm very happy to be here.
But that does break my heart a little bit. Um
and just signals, you know, we're getting closer football season
(00:43):
and start talking about you know, impact of injuries and
and uh, one more week of preseason basically this weekend,
and we're often running. Yeah, we are off and running.
And yeah that's man. That gives me great displeasure to
start off with bad offensive lineman news. As you explained,
it really hurts the soul. But I'll be able to
manage for the next three hours. I think I think
(01:05):
it hurts Dak Prescott's soul as well when you lose
your blindside protector over there. Tylane Smith torn left hamstring
and practice out in definitely, like Eddie Garcia said, could
miss multiple months. And it's a huge deal obviously. And
you know what, the first thing I thought of was
the Cowboys and where this puts them. But also if
(01:26):
this injury had happened in the preseason, the reaction is
night and day. And I've never understood that. It's like,
why is he even on the field to begin with.
It's like you've got a practice. There are injuries that
happened in practice as well as this one did. It's unfortunate,
but it happens in football, you know. There there's a
weird outcry when these things happen, as you mentioned, and
(01:50):
like there is no right or wrong way to do
the preseason. Like I just it's so interesting to me
how we have veteran coaches that have done a lot
of winning the NFL to play their start is in
the preseason. Right, Kansas City is one of them. Right.
Andy Reid is gonna play in Stars in the preseason.
Bill Belichick is gonna play in Stars in the preseason.
Mike Tomlin is gonna play their stars in the preseason.
(02:10):
Now one or two individual guys like Chris Jones did
not play, okay, like you know t J. Watt and
I'm just played yet Specific actually did play. I think
that Jacksonville Um like Specific guys might not play. But
there are veteran coaches that believe in playing their players
in the preseason. They get them ready to play. Tom
Brady typically plays during the preseason. Obviously he's been out,
(02:31):
but he's back. I don't know if he'll play this weekend.
But like that's the way some coaches do it. And
guess what, it's fine. No one gets hurt, because that's
rare that like the Patrick Mahomes gets hurt in the
how many quarterbacks have gotten hurt in a preseason football
game that have crippled their teams? Trent Green, the Rams
want a Super Bowl that season, Like crippled did hurt
(02:53):
the Rams? It doesn't happen very often in the actual games.
And then there's other side, the younger coaches, right McVeigh,
Ma Lafloors, Shane they're not gonna play anybody. That's fine.
That the two different philosophies, But your right injuries happened now.
Torn hamstring for an offensive alignment is extremely rare. UM.
And the practice video is is I mean even weirder,
like he just runs up to a linebacker, tries to
(03:15):
make a cut and booming goes down. Um. So practice
is part of the game. Injuries are part of the game. UM.
If you want argue no preseason, fine again, I think
reps are not bad in the preseason. Um. And there's
no right way to do it because it doesn't really
get guys hurt that play in the games in the preseason,
especially the starters. They know they know how to play
(03:37):
in the preseason. That's important part of this too. There's
a tempo in the preseason. There's a way to play
where you don't get hurt and trying to avoid injuries.
And there is no right way to do the preseason. Yeah.
And Zach Wilson is one of the guys that comes
to mind, the Jets quarterback and he got banged up.
It was a non contact injury. Looks scary. We feared
maybe it's a c L. It turned out not to be,
(04:00):
so he might miss Week one, we'll see, but it's
not a long term injury. Doesn't wreck his entire season.
But even then, I remember hearing the outcries of why
was he even on the field. It's like, are you serious?
Did you see that person play last week? And like
he needs the reps man, he's got to be out there,
he needs and you're right, it was a non time.
I'm still I'm still kind of confused on a bone
(04:21):
bruise for non contact injury. That's like a first for me.
And I imagine he might he might have hit his
um his knee on another another point in the game.
But also like, are we sure that, like Joe Flaccos
done better right now? And like, um uh so Jimmy Garoppolo.
I don't think the trade for Jimmy Garoppolo, but um yes,
(04:42):
you need some represent preseason non content injury happens Toronto Smith,
it happens. He's he needs to practice. The concern now
for Dallas is you know, he's been injured the last
couple of years. He put eleven games last year two
the year before that, and they just really haven't John
is replacement. Now they drafted Tyler Smith at a Tulsa
who's playing left guard, probably going to stay at left guard.
(05:03):
Um enough to be fair it's hard to replace a
Hall of Fame player, and Smith as well. I mean,
it's it's hard to be like, oh yeah, let's just
let's just have someone waiting. A lot of teams have
those issues. I wonder if they're gonna have to trade
for tackle here at some point because they need that
that position. Um, have you seen the record with the
Cowboys with and without Toron Smith? Is it's like with
(05:24):
Toron Smith, there's something like I'm gonna have to pull
it up. It's wild. They're like, you know, twenty games
over when he's out there under five. Yeah, that's obviously.
It's a huge deal in the NFC East, right where
the Eagles have gotten a lot better and the Cowboys
it's weird, right, I've got this theory, Jeff Schwartz, where
(05:44):
a lot of teams that disappointed in the playoffs now
a lot of people are high on him this season, right,
Like it just puts such a makes such an impression
in your memory. Where the Cowboys lost that game to
the Niners, they were one and done right, they weren't
able to spike the ball all at the very end.
It was a weird loss. And I can't I haven't
found many people at all that are saying, hey, the
(06:05):
Cowboys were twelve and five, it was the fifth best
record in the NFL last season. They got a lot
of talent returning. It's all negative. It's all they lost
to Murray Cooper as Zeke Elliott, he's not what he
wants was. When you have a disappointing playoff loss, it
really does shift the perspective to negative. And I haven't
heard much positivity for the Cowboys heading into this season.
(06:28):
And of course Tyrant Smith going down is not gonna
help that. Well, there's a reason. The cover reasons for
that one is I think that's how they lost, right
and kind of the coaching incompetence that they did show
throughout last season and then the preseason they get what
fourteen penalties their first preseason game. You're like, okay, well
that nothing's changed on that end, right, Like how excited
can be for a team that you know a lot
(06:49):
of us feel like, okay, they might get there, but
you know, no one trust their coaching staff to to
finish the job. Um. Also, this is my favorite stat
in the NFL. Um do you know the last time
there was a repeat winner in the NFC? East. Wow,
is it all the way back to like oh four
with the Eagles? Yeah? So and and with why would
(07:09):
that span two is there's been three champions super Bowl
champions from the NFC East since the thousand of four
and twice the Giants and the Eagles, and there's not
been a repeat champion in the division. I think people
look at at Dallas's roster, they're coaching staff, and you
look at the Eagles and their roster. The difference here
is the quarterback, right, Dak Prescott is better than than
Jalen Hurts. I think Dak will be better this year
(07:30):
and now that he's healthy, and there's a lot of
you know, a lot of like, I'm not sure Jalen Hurts.
You know, I feel the same way, like I see
the guy and I'm not quite sure. But the roster
the Eagles has got a lot better. They're really good
in the offensive defensive lines. Nakobe Dean looks like a
steal in the third round. UM, and so they're um,
they're probably close to the same roster wise now UM
(07:54):
with maybe a more stable coaching staff, which is I
don't think anyone who would have said that about Nick
Sirianni before last season. Yeah, And I just think that's
why there's not as much like I have been one
over the years who really high in the Cowboys, right,
because you look at the talent they've had that team,
and there was there's no way that they're gonna keep
failing in the playoffs. So they keep failing in the playoffs.
So like I'm out on like on the Cowboys, I'm
(08:16):
there might picked him in the division. I mean, I
might change my opinion now that tackles hurt Um. But uh,
the number I found, I'm not sure this is I
just search. Is there eighty three sixty three and he
plays in seventeen and sixteen when he doesn't play. Wow, okay, yeah,
And that's a pretty decent sample size right there. It's
(08:37):
not like, hey, they're uh, I don't know, they're they're
eight and to you know, like that's a lot of
games with them and without him. Yeah, so it's uh,
they you know, again they've and again there's no like
they don't have anyone really, I know. And that's the
other part here. It looks even more dire when you
start thinking of who's gonna take his spot, And there
(08:59):
was one thing I was reading where Hey, Eric Fisher,
who started fifteen games for the Colts last season, he's
out there, and from an offensive lineman perspective, I think
we get it with say, Jimmy g Right, a quarterback
who's not he hasn't been traded for yet. He could
end up with the Cleveland Browns. Might not. But if
(09:19):
he went to the Cleveland Browns today, we know we
have a better sense of how difficult it is for
a quarterback to try to hit the ground running and
get ready for week one. How about an old lineman
going to a brand new team and if they picked
up Eric Fisher, how difficult would it be for Fisher
and the rest of the Cowboys old ligneman to adjust
to each other. Yeah, you know, if Eric Fisher did
(09:40):
this last year with the culture, he just kind of
came back. He was hurt, came back out of the blue,
and he seemed to be okay. So, um, he's a
veteran and whatnot. So I'm not I'm not as concerned
I think about about that, um as maybe others would be. UM.
So yeah, that's not like as concerning um because he's
done this for many year. I will give a little
(10:02):
bit of relief to the Cowboys here when it comes
to the situation of like, we don't have a good backup. Well,
to be honest, no one really does. Like who hasn't
who has quality back Like last year the Rams did
right and they could go down to the kid that
a wake Force the fourth round, rookie Zack Tom who's
playing really well for for Mark Trd. I liked him.
(10:24):
I liked it from a lot out of wake Force.
He just a little undersized, playing a funky offense in
wake Forest, that long mess they do, it's kind of
hard to to judge his ability to run and block
in that offense, and really the past protection it's kind
of easier in that offense. It's done really well. Um,
you know, the Rams had had Joseph no Bloom last
year's now they're starting left tackle. But like a lot,
it's just you know, when you have a guy like
(10:46):
Smith who for many years was healthy, you kind of
just don't draft that position as much. And this is
where they run into the issue of not having depth.
But no one, there's no one to replace. He's a
Hall of Fame guy. I don't want to replace the
Hall of Fame or you just hope to fill in
that that spot enough to where you don't have that
big of a glaring weakness at that position. Yeah, I
(11:09):
know it. It's crazy like that. All right. So we've
got a ton to do here, Jeff Schwartz, I'm looking
at my list. We have about seventy three things to
do here. Yeah, throughout the morning they're about I'm estimating
about seventy three different topics. I would say seventy one
or football related. Do I have to like pack Patrick Beverley? Now,
I'm because I'm a liquors fan and it fits a
lot better than Utah, I'll tell you that much, I guess,
(11:31):
But like I don't know, Like I see one of
those guys. I woke up to someone I was like,
do I do I really have to do this? He's
one of those players that you like he's on your team, right, well,
you hate if he's not on your team, right have
we agree with That's absolutely who he is. Yeah, so
you should love him. Yeah, it might take a second,
but I would say, good, two games in, you're gonna
fall in love with Pat Bevight for the eighth seed

this year that Fox Sports Radio has the best sports

Heart Radio app search f s R to listen live. Okay,
so the rule change I think should take place. Jeff,
I know you have a lot of thoughts on this is. Uh,
(12:14):
the cut block from Daddius Moss on Cavon Thibodeaux. He's
he's out for what three to four weeks, got a
sprained m c L. He's getting a second opinion. Um,
but I think this should go away. It's one of
these deals where and you've wrote about this, you have
a lot to say on Fox sports dot com and
it was very well written by the way. I would
tell you if it sucked, but it was. It was
(12:34):
well done by you. But you every day and then
every down that surprise people. Yeah, Like, well, cut blocks
they are allowed, as you pointed out, they're allowed within
five yards of the line of scrimmage and two yards
outside of the offensive tackles. So it was a legal
block from Daddius Moss who he cut blocked Cavon Thibodeau,
and Tibodeau got hurt, and so it's got a lot
(12:56):
of attention. I just think that should go away. It's
a dangerous play. You can't have defensive babs. They can't
do that to old lineman in space, but we think can't.
We can't cut them either in space. It goes both ways.
They change your rule. Yeah, I think that there's been
so much to talk about. Is this dirty? Is not dirty?
I think it's just dangerous. It's a dangerous play that's
(13:18):
in arguable. Okay, so here here's here's the difference and
why the block was outlaw. Where defensive backs can't cut us.
We are big and fat. We can't defend ourselves against
the cut block out of like, if I'm going to
block a defensive defensive back in space, I can't protect
my legs if they if they go cut me, I
just can't do it, just like the other way, you
(13:39):
know when that's why the outlawed offensive lineman cutting defensive
lineman space. It's hard for that assume defensive players in space,
it's hard for them to to to to play this off.
But in the box you see it coming. Klin Thibodeau
saw this coming and decided to play it terribly. They're
taught defensive linemen are taught how to play cup blocks
(14:00):
it's part of their their teaching, it's part of what
they do in practice, they'll learn how to play these.
And the best point I saw on this was actually
from former Oregon Offen's a line coach and now he's
at Miami, Alex Marribel. He said that you can't practice
this because of the practice rules and the fear of
(14:21):
just someone getting hurt as you practice this, right, because
you don't want to hurt anyone in practice, and does
take some time to practice it. And so think about
Keivon Thibodeau in this in this instance. Okay, so in
college I'm gonna trying to read the college cup block rules.
Who knows the rule book is so cold convoluted. I
don't think this. I think it's allowed in college football
(14:42):
because they said stationary players in the box can cut,
and if you are the wing, your stationary, But are
you considered like in the box because you're not, you're
not your wing and not It's like try I don't know,
but this blog, but this type of play is not
very used very often in college football any ways. So basically,
on an inside zone, you have to block the backside
(15:04):
defensive end because the running back Timpy winds back to
back side a gap and so you cut that guy down. Okay,
So Cavon Thibodeau never saw us in college. I've watched
all his film. I don't recall ever seeing someone trying
to cut him like this. He has not seen it
in practice because not allowed. He did not see it
in the first place of the games against the Patriots,
so maybe the first time he saw this and he
(15:25):
played it like it was an offensive lineman pulling. He
lowered his shoulders so he could take contact up high
and Moss as he's taught, is to cut that guy
down because most often when the tight ends sliding back
like that or stiffing back, and everyone used a different
term for it. But he started on one side, going
across the line of scrimmage behind the offensive line to
the other side. You know, those defensive ends are are
(15:46):
running full speed at you. They're not blocked right full speed.
Your two hundred forty pounds, another two ninety, and you
cut that guy down. And it happened five seven other
times in that game alone. No problem. The defensive lineman
saw it, he played it off, or he got cut
and we move it along. Um. This play rarely results
(16:08):
in injury. I wrote about the cut blocks that have
been outlawed to do result injured, those chop blocks that
have been outlawed, those resulted injury. You're holding up a
defensive player while another guy cuts that guy down one
on one. Cup blocks, man, do not injure a lot
of players, and they're good tool for the offensive line
to use. Um And there's specific ways that were taught
were taught to cut through the thigh. If you look
(16:28):
what where Moss was aiming, man, it's not aiming for
the knee, Cavan, he was aiming for the upper the thigh.
He hit the fiveh first, but because of the positioning
of Cavan Thibodeau playing the sideways, he eventually get and
gets it if he just turns. If Cal turns and
faces the cut block, it was not even a good
cup block attempt. He just shed that thing and continues
(16:48):
on his way. UM. So, I don't know why we're
absolving poor technique. I mean, Brian Dable mentioned the head
coach of Giant, said yeah, we do the same thing,
and he played it terribly. They're gonna be everyone in
the NFL is going to use this clip. Not everyone,
but defensive lineman defensive in meetings are gonna use this
clip and say, hey, this is how you do not
(17:08):
play a cut block and badly. There's no doubt about that.
And so I just think that you know, we this.
If this was a type of block that's seriously injured
a lot of players, it would be out of the NFL,
because the NFL obviously is very big in players safety.
But it doesn't. It doesn't hurt a lot of players,
(17:29):
and rare that this type of a one on one
cup block me versus you does not injure a lot
of players that chop block did. And that's why it's
out cutting in space dangerous because again I'm running full
speed to block you and taken out. I'm not I
have no recourse. I cannot. I'm too slow and not
cook enough to play this off. So and you know,
(17:50):
and us being in space are big old bodies diving
at guy's legs. There's a lot of force there right,
injured players that a lot of those fine, okay, like
this is not a play that injured guys. You sound
like an ex offensive lineman who's like, don't throw out
my college sweatshirt. I love this college sweatshirt. That's how
you sound with the chop block. It's not a chop
(18:12):
blocks that the chop block the local. There are defensive
players that backed me up on this on Twitter. They're like, yes,
it's a it's a fine block, just just Kee'm not
gonna play this better? Are you sure they didn't say
it's a fine, just that some some people did. Fox

because Derek Carr, Right, Derek Carr with the Las Vegas Raiders,
(19:18):
really interesting twist. Didn't know we were gonna hear this
in the off season. But during the ground cast of
UFC two seventy eight when they were interviewing UFC President
Dana White, Dana White told the story that it was
almost a done deal, that Tom Brady and Gronk were
headed to the Raiders and Gruden nixes the deal. Like
(19:40):
you're already sighing. What do you think about this, Jeff Schwartzky,
So what what do you think? Like? Already done deal
means like like in your like to me when I
hear that, I'm like, oh, man, contracts were discussed, numbers
were discussed like right ready, like they were like they
were rate done and Gruden said no, So I had
(20:03):
to believe that Dana White negotiated their contracts, Like who
he talked to Don Ye? Did he? Did he talk
to Mark Davis? And did he talk to John Gruden?
And mayok, Like this is just like three dudes hanging
out at the bar being like bro like from the
Vegas rate like and they're like cool, sounds good? Like
(20:23):
there was not It wasn't close to a done deal. Yeah,
done deal is a bit of a stretch. But if
Brady is looking for a house and it's serious. I
look for every single time'm sitting here. I haven't even
looked this morning, and I'm probably gonna go on at
some point while we're doing this, during a break and
start looking at houses in Charlotte, Like I look at
houses all the time. What does it mean he was
in Vegas? Look he had he was looking at houses
(20:44):
in Vegas, like actually in town. But do you ever
look at houses that with in Des Moines? Do you
look at houses any area you're not thinking about? I
look at the houses of beach at the Beach all
the time. But like, just like I look at houses
in Manhattan Beach all the time. I am moving to
Los Angeles, Like, I mean, why just to torture yourself?
What do you do this? You know, maybe there's a
(21:06):
world where you know, Fox pays me ten times more
than they do now and I moved to Los Angeles. Um,
so there are some worlds where this happens. Um, you
don't need Fox. You just go all in on the
chief's first half. You know, they're not playing my homes.
They're not playing my homes. So no, Like I just
I just think that was a story that is has
(21:29):
a lot of legs that probably is you know, okay,
fair enough, But Derek Carr, let's listen to his response, right, like,
because it ties into this whole pressure thing. So let's
let's go with Derek Carr Raiders QB. What he said
about this. It is what it is, uh, you know,
for me, like I didn't even hear about it. We
(21:49):
actually had within the building someone lost a family member,
so like I was so immersed in that and just
talking to that person and that kind of stuff that
it was a moment to really put things in perspective,
like it really doesn't matter, you know what I mean. Um,
at the end of the day, anything I say will
just be blasted out there. So I'm just gonna completely
remove myself and just keep trying to play football. It's
(22:11):
been nice just answering football questions. Uh, you know, and
hopefully hopefully no more drama in the city. That's what
That's what I hope good answer, just downplay it, downplay it,
downplay it. And uh. But the question remains, does this
in your mind the Brady ground think, does this put
any more pressure? Not on car shoulders, but but just
(22:31):
the way that he's looked at is it just like
we're comparing him even more to Brady and what could
have been. No, no, no, because I don't I don't
think a lot of us don't believe that they was
actually close happening. Um. And I think Derek Carr actually
is a little underrated the way he played very well
last season, but he's been overshadowed obviously in this division alone,
by Mahomes Herbert and Russell Wilson. And so I think that, no,
(22:54):
there's no extra pressure on him this year. There might
be pressure on Josh McDaniels to kind of, um, you know,
get you kind of make up for what he did
in Denver, right, and there's a lot of I think,
like just angst to see him as a head coach again. Um,
but there's no there's no pressure on car this year
to be Tom Brady or to be compared to Tom Brady. Okay,
(23:15):
So if we circle back to if Derek Carr isn't
number one on the list which NFL quarterback is under
the most pressure this season, who would you put at
the top of your list. There's there's two that I
think tie for this, and it's Jalen Hurts and into
a Umah. Now, the difference is Jalen Hurts was drafted
(23:38):
by this current coaching staff where to it was not.
So there is a little bit of an attachment to
making sure that that Jalen Hurts is successful because Hallie
Roseman and Nick Serrianti want him to be good. Right,
Nick SERIANTI did not draft him, but Hallie Roseman did. Um.
And then in Miami they have a brand new general
(23:58):
manager and head coach. So I don't was Chris career
around when they drafted to uh he was still there.
I think he was just fired the Okay, then then
you drafted two of that okay, pretty much the same. Um,
So maybe there's a little bit more of an investment
in both those guys and then from you know, but
(24:18):
obviously coaching staff's not right investment there. Um. But you've
surrounded at least Jalen Hurts with a lot of talent, right,
you trained for a wide receiver, you good offensive defensive lines.
You know, you're obviously had success the last year's of
playoff team your division. I mean, you should probably the
favorite now with the Toronto Smith injury doing your division,
(24:38):
and you look at the Dolphins and what they've done too.
To add to to you know to to of the
left left tackle. UM, got another wide receiver. Um, it's
a quarterback friendly offense at least as designed you know,
on paper. And there needs to be improvement because the
Dolphins and they lost the first round draft pick for
the tampering thing, but there's still in a position with
(24:59):
all the draft pick they have to get themselves another quarterbacks.
So are the Eagles. I mean that part of it
is that this is a very quarterback frost. I just
saw a tweet from Jim Nagy, a senior who'shead of
the Senior Bowl, who said, you know, they have like
a watch list heading into the season for how many
quarterbacks might make the Senior Bowl. He's an eight and
twenty two right now is on the watch list. Last
year they were gets a huge year for quarterbacks, where
(25:19):
last year it wasn't right even though there were guys drafted,
but they were just drafted in you know, third round basically.
Well that's a good point too, because you might not
have to pull Vault into the top five or ten
to get one of those guys. You could be at
the end of the first round and get a quality guy.
So that's why I think that there's pressure on those
guys to be really good this season. UM. Now again
both general managers, I thought Chris ger got fired, but
(25:41):
so apologize for that one. Um. So there's a little bit.
There's a little bit of the GMS wanting those guys
to succeed, right, There's gonna be some of that. So
maybe that keeps those guys they're a little bit longer.
But from the coaching staff perspective, again, they didn't draft
these players, um, and that does matter, I think because
as you obviously trying to draft players that fit what
(26:02):
you want to do. But the best coaches, of course
find ways to make it work anyways. And so I
do think but again, if two comes out and places
poor this year with a revamped offensive line with Tyreek
Yell and Jelen Waddle, there's gonna be a little bit
of of like, are you sure he's the guy here?
So big year for those guys. I also think it's
weirdly an import year for for Aaron Rodgers because how
(26:25):
many years are gonna keep winning all these games and
not make any noise in the playoffs. That's becoming his
legacy and I don't think he cares, and I don't
think that it changes are from the Fox Sports. I
don't think it changes our opinion on him. But I
think if he wins another championship, it just elevates him
even further. Right, Like he's first Bell Hall of Famer,
(26:46):
but winning another championship puts him in a different different light.
Um every going through a lot. Also, he probably doesn't
care about this, but it do a lot. If he
goes out there and balls out without the Vonte Adams,
that's a big deal. I think he'll be fine without
the Adams. I am not one of these guys who
thinks that Patrick Mahomes Aaron Rodgers losing one wide receiver
(27:06):
makes them all of a sudden be a bunch of
slow meals like they're gonna be fine, Like they're gonna
be fine a quarterback, Like it's it's not a problem.
There's no way their numbers are just gonna drop significantly.
But I mean, you're losing your sports car, your high
end sports cause that's a big deal. Well, I think
I was gonna slip a little bit. But Pat Mahomes though,
they added a bunch of a talent back that the
(27:28):
Packers did not do the same thing. So I can
make an argument that Chiefs as a as a whole
in the wide receiver room were better this season, which
they are. The still Travis Kelsey um fortunately the backup Tenan.
I guess they're blocking Tedan got her. But you know,
Noah Grady had a good preseason so far. Uh, Fort
Sun's score a bunch of touchdowns, there'd be The Packers
(27:49):
have more to more issues offensive line injuries and just
don't have the weapons the Chiefs have. But they're gonna
this offense is still gonna score a bunch of points.
They're gonna be fine. But I think there's I think
there's pressure on raw just just kind of image wise, like, yeah,
how many games are gonna win in the regular seasons?
Thirty nine in the last three years. Sure, Yeah, it's
getting to that stage. Yeah, I'm gonna go in a
(28:09):
different direction most pressure in the NFL as a quarterback,
I'm gonna go with Trey Lance. And my reasoning is
the Niners quarterback think of the price tag, how much
they had to give up to get him to get
up there in the number three overall pick. They're giving
up multiple first round draft picks. The comparisons to Jimmy
g right, Like, I don't think it's fair. Jimmy G
(28:29):
was was good, but I thought it was more so
along for the ride than the reason for all of
this team's success. But in any event, it's gonna be
compared to Jimmy G. He was thirty one and fourteen
as a starter. Why they even get rid of Jimmy G.
If Trey Lance struggles, that's gonna be the deal. And
then also, Trey Lance played at the FCS level, He
(28:49):
didn't play a lot, and now he takes over for
a team that just made it to the NFC title
game and the expectations are sky high. So I think
that's a lot of prey drawing him. Now. It's not
like Jalen and Tua, where of Jalen and to a underperformed,
they're gone. Those teams are going in a different direction.
That's not the same thing with Trey Lance. But I
(29:10):
would argue that Trey Lance is under a lot more scrutiny,
and as a first year starting quarterback, he doesn't have
those starts under his belt, and the expectations for that
team is way higher than the expectations for the Dolphins
and Eagles. UM doesn't the expectations or like, kind of
our perceived expectation of the player matter a lot here,
Like I'm not as high on Trey Lance as others were,
(29:33):
and so if he plays poorly, it kind of confirms
how I feel about him, I think, And the same
with two. I wasn't as it wasn't it wasn't that
wasn't high on to a I just look at kind
of the history of Alabama quarterbacks and I was just like,
you know, smaller undersize has been heard a bunch um
seem kind of hurts honestly, So like I just my
(29:54):
expectations aren't very high for Trey Lance. If he plays poorly,
it kind of fits with what I already perceived him
to be. Where if he plays really well, obviously, So
isn't the pressure all about how we perceived him to
be rather than just overall, okay, there's pressure on him?
Or is that is that part of this discussion? No,
I hear you. Yeah, it makes sense, but I would
(30:14):
argue a lot of people see it differently than you.
Pressure on Kyle Shanahan. There's a lot of this Tray Lance,
Oh this guy, you heard it last season when Trey
Lance takes over it will unlock Kyle Shanahan's full play book.
And it's like that as a rookie, what are we
talking about? But there are still a lot of people
singing his praises. So I'm more like you with how
(30:35):
I think a Trey Lance, But I don't think we're
in the majority on that. And there's also, um, you know,
there's pressure on it to work because as you mentioned,
all the assets that you trade it. But you know,
you have to figure out what the quarterback on a
working contract pretty quickly. If it's if he's a young
guy or not right, you should figure that out like
(30:55):
a s a P. I mean, I think outside of
Tom Brady, who's allowed quarterback to win a Super Bowl
that wasn't on the rookie contract, I guess Matt Stafford,
I mean veterans like Stafford and Brady, I mean, like
it doesn't happen very often. Yeah, So you know you
have a chance right now after the Niners to build
this thing in the next couple of years with you know,
Trent Williams still his you know, his peak or defensive
(31:17):
line still playing the way they are. Um, and you
get this, you get this done. And so I think
there is pressure on the entire organization to make this work,
and the reputation and there and the reputation of John
Lynch Calle Shanahan who draft I think it's the comparison thing.
I think if Trey Lance falter and put it this way,
if to stumbles, there isn't why did you get rid
(31:38):
of the last guy to go with two one? It's
the same thing with Jalen Hurts. That will be the
case with Trey Lance, fair or not, you know, that's
what people are gonna say. It would be the the same
with two of them. I mean, why didn't they draft
Justin Herbert? Right? That's the that would be always tied
together to that. I still have nightmares about that. That's uh.
