Penn State Perdue. We're also gonna catch up with Albert Breer,
senior NFL reporter from the mm QB. We're gonna find
(00:20):
out what the hell happened with the Jimmy Garoppolo situation
in San Francisco. We've got a very alarming statistic when
it comes to NFL players trying to make the cut.
Baker Mayfield, why deny what everybody knows you actually said? Plus,
we've got would you rather? We got a special edition
of Over Unders, and we got the b Q News.
It's all yours coming up next year on a Thursday
(00:41):
edition of Two Pros and a Cup of Joe Fox
Sports Radio. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Yeah, Yeah,
Pros and a Cup of Joe Fox Sports Radio. What
do you mean? You know? I mean, you know what
(01:01):
this song right here? It's a different what's so different
about there? It's just very noticeably different. What's different about it?
Is it? Right? Like the rhythm to it? What do
you mean? It's everything? Yeah, and there you go, like
is it like the like everything is different. It's just different. Man.
The color to it, like the color to say to
(01:22):
it is very different. Tone. Yes, the color of it.
It's got a different chane. It is two pros and
a cup of Joe. Fox Sports Radio Slavar Arrington, Brady
Quinn Jonas knocks with you here. You can hang out
with us as always on the I Heart Radio app,
and you can find us on hundreds of affiliates all
across the country. Wherever the hell you are making us
a part of your Thursday morning. We appreciate you doing so,
(01:45):
and we're going to take you all the way up
until nine am Eastern times, six o'clock Pacific. Guys, it's back.
We have got Labor Day weekend college football wall to
wall action, and it starts tonight. Who's fired up for it? Man?
College football is back. Archie jacked. We are sticks tonight, baby. Yes,
let's go tonight. Yeah, go ahead, Eastern time. How many
(02:09):
I'm just I'm telling you right now, I'm here on
site for I didn't see many Penn Staters last night.
I did not see many Penn Staters. Seemed it was
I mean, granted, you're in West Lafayette a lot of
produced folks, but usually other games I've been to, whether
it was Madison, Wisconsin. Um, I'm trying to think last year,
we're like road games that we've seen Oowa City, we
(02:30):
see the Penn Staters. Have not seen them so far
in West laft Maybe they're coming in today, maybe it
is Thursday. But you know, I'll say this, I'll admit this,
and I'm not proud to admit it, but I did
go to the Blue White Game this year and it
was very light. Super it was super super super light.
(02:53):
Oh I mean light like like yeah, disturbingly light. Um.
And and I I gotta be honest with you, even
being in Iowa City last season, that was not up
to to standard in terms of how we generally travel.
It wasn't wasn't it wasn't anywhere near anything that I
(03:16):
had been used to seeing. But you guys aren't gonna
be able to take tickets away from those IWA Hawkeye fans.
They're not selling their tickets to you know. Yeah, I'll
say this. We travel so well, we don't even care
about getting into the game. Sometimes we just are there.
We we just take over your spot. Yeah, we'll take
(03:39):
your girl. Will come take your girl like well, like
it's one of those things. You'll be in the in
the bars and stuff like that. That skydiving guy with
Jonas there you go, true story. It was your girl
when you left the plane, it became his girl by
the time you hit the ground. I mean, that's just
what Penn State, you know, has been in the past.
So I I'm not shocked that we're not. We don't
(04:03):
have a crazy presence. I think we got to start
winning a little bit more before that, that kind of
that element, you know, because there was a disconnect, you know,
there was a disconnect period of time, and and that's
a whole long, drawing out story that we're conversation that
we don't have to get into. But could this be
a new part of the fine system if you start
going on rants about Penn State, No, see, yeah, I
(04:25):
feel like I was punitive. I was prompted into it. Yeah,
that's like you can't bait somebody into it and then
you know, I mean, of course I'll get fined because
that's how this works. I mean, I'll get fined you
guys won't get five right there, that's ten dollar right.
That was passive aggressive right there, And you see how
you made it about you in that moment. Okay, But
(04:47):
but the problem is is that you're now starting to
add a little bit of to these fines to where
it used to be that'll be ten dollars, and now
it's it's ten dollars. So now we feel like if
you've turned into a street vendor and all of us
and I'm getting pop ten dollars every time I get
where I took that from the barber Eddie Murphy played
and and coming to America. Oh yeah, by the way,
(05:14):
so what do you think you think? Because there's still
a stigma attached to Penn State. That's what people travels
when it's not a stigma, it's it's now transitioned into
you have one side that wants everything to be restored.
They want Joe Paterno to be officially like they need
to there needs to be like apologies and and him
(05:35):
being like, you know, re re established as you know,
Joe without any type of anything connected to him. Put
the statue back. You know, you know, put Joe paterno Ville,
paterno Ville back. There are a lot of people with
a lot a lot of a lot of money that
are on that side of it, and then there's just
(05:55):
a new school Cats that they don't care. And the
new school Cats that just don't care. They'll show up
to games and State College, but they're not as avid,
they're not as connected to it as those who were
connected to Joe and what he had built during his
time there. So it's just there's like a disconnect between
(06:16):
the new school and the new school of of of
Penn State. And and you see it playing out like
people were coming out and a lot of the things
that that people wanted to experience had to do with
coach paterno when they were doing it, and and that
hasn't been you know, kind of you know, re established
a lot. In fact, there are a lot of critics
(06:38):
of of of James Franklin in terms of him being
a great recruiter but not possibly a great coach. You know,
those have been some of the criticisms that have been
lobbed at it. Franklin seems like when because he made
some comments earlier this offseason where he seems a little
bit tired of the Yeah, we understand there were some
(06:59):
things that happened here. This is a new place now,
like what we need to take it in a different right.
He seems like he's pretty worn out with a lot
of the conversation. I mean, they've redone the facility as well,
you know, they've done a lot of things to try
to get that, you know, to the next step. You know,
but you gotta win when you want to disconnect and
re re established, you gotta win and go like you No,
(07:21):
I was just gonna say, I mean, it's so far
removed from what if that's what you're referring to, the
Sandusky stuff. I mean, Penn State's so far removed from that.
I don't know why that's still part of the conversation.
You know that that always is to me, I think
when you get again, I hate to call it out
all the time, but like lazy journalism, where you want
(07:41):
to still kind of keep these narratives alive and running.
But it has nothing to do with the current state
of the school, the program anything, at least in my
opinion as an outsider. So I hate if that's still
part of the narrative because I think he's done a
tremendous job of building everything back up. Now. You know,
past couple of years they've been a five D program
(08:01):
and you can point to was COVID. There was a
lot of schools who have some excelled, some didn't. Um
it's not I'm not really sure what the chock that
up to because it was difficult circumstances that everyone's thrown
into last year. I mean, they got off to such
a hot start and then Klein like they won their
first five I think, and then they dropped the game
and i wasa city we were there for. But when
(08:22):
you lose your start a quarterback, which I think we'd
all agree like that really changed the momentum of that
game in Iowa City, and then you lose six of
your your last you know eight, it's it's just tough.
But like they've got talent, they've got you know everything.
That just to me, it comes down to the consistency
on offense and then what happens now on defense. You know,
you just lost the guy. Brent Pride. He's been with
(08:44):
James Franklin everywhere he's been as a head coach twelve years.
He's been as defensive coordinator. So this is the first
time now we see James Franklin without that corner stone
in his coaching staff. And how does that, you know,
how does that you know work, or how does that respond?
And then you've got a guy and many Diaz who
you know, it's taking this opportunity to coach up the defense,
(09:05):
but very different from the type of scheme Brent Prye
would like to implement. So it's it's just a lot
of questions right now I think is they're this transition.
But I'll tell you what. Right now, man, you guys
got some young bucks. Keep an eye on those freshman
running backs tonight. You guys got some stars in the making.
It's just getting on the field and showing it. We've
(09:25):
got some stars at that linebacker. Two. We got a
baby rocking them sticks. We gotta not sure if you
know this, but you guys are gonna playing a lot
of nickel and dime tonight. So well, I'm not sure
how those out there. That baby can play nickel and dime.
He's he's nice, he's nice. So I don't know how
much they'll play him, just because that they are past heavy.
(09:46):
But I'm I'm assuming we'll see them abdul uh so, well,
you know we'll see Listen, they got all my shot
today too. By the way, there's gonna be a flee
flicker tonight from Perdue. There's going to be a flee
flicker if many he Is doesn't have your defense prepared
and produce hits a big plan of flee flicker. We're
I am gonna I'm gonna call in tomorrow and find
(10:08):
a way of heckling you for this because i am
I'm like every single game, does I am off tomorrow?
Hold on a second, so just a random's call in.
Heck did you here to slide that in there? I'm
gonna call in and heck on you wait, hold on?
Why a flicker? Why is it a flee flicker? It's
(10:32):
just the thing man. Jeff Bram is one of the
best play callers in finding ways of incorporating trick plays,
and a flee flicker is like just one of their things.
I swear every other game when you're watching their tape,
you'll see a flee flicker. What they do, it's got
to be one of the coolest that like, is the
guy that's catching the ball flee like and he flicks
(10:54):
it back, or is the quarterback the flicker or the flee?
Like what, I don't get it? Can we asked two
favors depending on the WiFi, which, by the way, we've
got other issues here in the studio. The fire alarm
has gone off for the past feel like I'm at
the night the light off in the night. Yeah, they
got we got the fire lasers inside the studio. The
(11:15):
alarm may go off again. They were dealing with that
on the Ben Mallow shows. We got those issues, but
can we look at two things? Number one, is there
a prop bet on DraftKings for the amount of flee
flickers that Produe pulls off tonight on Fox Eightiestern Time
against Penn State? And also where did the name flee
flicker come from? Those are two important questions that needed
the answers. I mean, it's a great name, what flee flicker?
(11:40):
I mean it has too to test the time. I'll
tell you that Mary Hell, Mary Humble Rooski, Yeah, but
I mean flee flicker and in Hell Mary student body right,
that's my favorite person. That's that's really let's go live
to our I have an answer on one of those questions.
Insider leadal laugh for the latest le I do have
(12:01):
a little bit of history behind the flee flicker actually
made its debut against Penn by Illinois nine and actually
resulted in a touchdown. Why I am looking for that?
You didn't have it? Yeah, he wanted to show off
to the WiFi work better this morning. I have it.
(12:26):
I have it to Joe nets oh Man. Well listen
that we are fired up. Man. College football's back. It's
gonna be a long day, and by it is Brady
Quinn season. Because once college football's back, you know, face,
what time does the game come on? What time? What
time do you guys go on? Well, the coverage starts
at seven pm Eastern time. That's time. Yeah, I think
usually don't like throw out the Pacific time. I like
(12:47):
people to do the math. But I'll throw that out
there one o'clock in a way. By the way, I
just want to fill everybody in. There's six hours behind
one another three three hours behind west from Pacific. Six yes,
so three behind. How everyone else pretty much talks about time? Yeah,
you hate you hate Pacific time. Not a big fan
of because no TV schedules outside of on the West
(13:08):
coast talk about Pacific time. Everything's in Eastern Standard time.
Let's know what, It's crazy, but your days are so
much longer on Pacific time, like on the East coast.
Like I hate to do this to you in the morning, baby,
I hate to do this to you that your day
goes by way quicker on the East Coast, Like you
get to the night way quicker than you do on
(13:31):
the way. Some would say that, you know, I'm a
man of the night, so you could know you could
be the next the Batman bro. You know, I think
Jonas was thinking something else a little bit. Well, Jonas
could be the next Um there you go, he could
be the villain. Yeah, he would be a villain, but
it'd probably have a different villain name, one of those
(13:53):
names we were talking about before the show. It certainly
would not be like two Face or Joker. It would
be something way more diabolical than that. Yeah, it would
be something that, uh, you know, I've been called by
the in laws several times before. By the way, we
(14:15):
are brought to you by the switch, I would be
able to say it either. So we could talk about
how complicated other banks make it to redeem credit card rewards,

(15:42):
It might be our Discover card. Keep matchup. I'm not sure.
I'm not a Juco. Wow, they were on Last Chance.
You don't sleep on Jucos. We're laughing, but you know
they might whoop you. I'm not laughing. Okay, alright, let's
start with some notes from the NFL. We had a
(16:03):
lot of players that were cut on Tuesday picked up
on Wednesday, including former Raidar offensive tackle in one first
round pick Alex Leatherwood, now a member of the Chicago Bears.
Some quarterbacks getting picked up, Kellen Man, formerly of the Vikings,
now with the Browns. Nate subfell to the fort NDErs
signing with the Lions. We had running back Marlon Mack
being picked up our should say resigned by the Texans
put on their practice squad, but running back Kenyan Drake
(16:26):
joining the Ravens tied in O. J. Howard joins the
Bengals and running back swing to Michelle with the charges.
We also to trade the Eagles, sending former first round
wide receiver first round pick wide receiver Jalen Reagor to
the Vikings for a couple of traff picks, fourth rounder
and a seventh rounder. In coming up tonight, we have
in our Discover card keep Matchup. We are yea yeah
(16:50):
and stay taken up Perdue is our Discover card. Keep
match Up broad to you. By Discover, we can talk
about all complicated other banks making to redeem credit card
rewards are. We can talk about how it Discover you
can redeem your awards for cash in any matter, at
any time. I mean to talk about amazing learn more
discovering dot com slash for deem rewards terms apply. It's
(17:10):
music to my ears. Right. I know, I see you,
even though you had kind of insulted my team. I'm
looking at you up here. I'm looking at you up here.
I'm sorry I did not insult there. But hold on,
hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on home. Yeah, dumb, dumb,
his hammer. He's a north Let him sway his hammer,
(17:37):
his hammer. He will beat you with this hammer. And
he does love hammers, too many hammers to Jonas always
has a mess an mean, what a song? This is
the part I play right after we make the extra point?
(17:58):
Now do you know the words? If I song? Not anymore?
Not that's not the fight song though, But what's that?
Like the just celebrations hashtag minus three and a half happen,
you know, like when Florida, when Florida gets the first
down and go no no no no no no no
no no no no no no no no no. Like
(18:20):
that's that's the same type of deal. Like college football
is so much fun. Like there there's like some some
NFL folks who are like old cromudgeons, like the football
is not as good and I'm like, okay, look, no
one's saying that the product is better. It is a
better atmosphere and more entertaining, Like I'm sorry, Like the
NFL is great, but its own corporate, sterile kind of deal.
(18:43):
College football the crap that happens you never see. Yeah
you can't touch that, Yeah you never see it. I
don't think it's even close if you go to an
NFL game or a college football game, I don't think
it's close. The experience and the whole vibe there, the
whole atmosphere. I mean like brackish water. You know, you
got you've got salt water and you've got fresh water.
So you've got pro pro level type talent and you
(19:05):
have college type talent. Like it's it's like it's business,
but it's not all the way pro business, right, So
it's like brackish water. You get the best of both.
Speaking of pros, how about Albert Prier, senior NFL reporter
mm QB at Albert Prier on Twitter, A guy who
loves his college footballs. And I'm hoping we can keep
(19:27):
things calm here this morning. I know it's a little
bit early in the trash let go. I mean, look,
you know Ohio State alum, he's got Notre Dame this weekend.
I'm just hoping we don't have any issues here, That's
what I'm hoping. Yeah, well, I I will say I
agree with you guys, like I hate the pro football
snob who acts like he can't be lowered to watch
college football, Like I cannot stand that. Like you know,
(19:51):
like it's and it's usually some guy who never played
football at any level, you know what I mean. Like,
but it's like it's it's that guy who says like
I can't like I can't even watch it. I can't
even be I can't even be like lower to watch
that sort of stuff. So because I agree with you guys,
like I think the atmosphere is better the um you know,
like just the excitement about it, like, and I think
(20:12):
some of the little bit like is not knowing like
how like say like Ohio State matches up with Alabama
matches up with the USC in any given year, you
know what I mean, Like that sort of thing about it.
I think it's cool. Even the talent gap, I mean
makes more big big plays, makes for better highlights sometimes,
Like NFL is great. I love the NFL, but the
(20:35):
college experience, like there's just something so different about the
college football Saturday. Like I don't think there's anything more
American than the college football Saturday. I hear you on that.
And plus like the upsets too, right, Like that's that's
like the upsets are that much bigger. Well, I don't
even know if that's that big of an upset. The
point sps big. But I mean, well, if we want
(20:56):
to get into it, I mean, what was oregan last year?
There were two touchdow underdog. They can't in their right
hand by Quinn. Yeah, I'm just saying, like, it's not
like impossible to go win. Didn't Oklahoma go in there
and make the flag down an artificial turf right by Quinn?
(21:17):
That was left to the body. Come on, come on,
here's the thing. I'll put it this way. I spoke
to someone who's in the know last night. There's some concern.
There's some concern for the eye side. They're unconcerned about
the physicality Albert. Oh, well, the last eight months so
(21:40):
like getting them. So I think they know that people
think they're soft. I'll put it that way. And I
for my understanding is they were in pads a lot
over the last four or five weeks, and the whole
off season has been sort of I think to address
what happened against Oregon, to address what happens against happen
against Michigan. So it'll be I say, I say this
(22:02):
with all sincerity, with all sincerity, like I do think
the Other Dame is a good test when it comes
to that point, good test, so so not not really
like uh not really like a you know, train competitor
or training someone that you feel threatened by. Just a
good test, early test. It is an early test, yeah yeah,
not not a shooting up a test, so just above
(22:24):
a ton not I mean today you no at all
terrible next week if this doesn't go my way, not
at all. I mean well, I mean I think there's
a lot of people who are going to probably get
at you a little bit or buck Eye Nation, but um,
(22:45):
that's that's the thing is. I think that people are
questioning the toughness whether or not their finessed team under
Ryan Day. You know, it's funny when when there was
a transition from Chip Kelly and Oregon to Mark Helfridge,
people forget Mark Helfridge took Oregon to a national championship,
like people tend to forget that. But there was this
stigma then that oh they were finessd. There was soft
like they would never be able to compete with the
(23:06):
with the big boys. And I think last year was
the first time where it kind of got exposed a
little bit, obviously versus Michigan, but if you really looked
at it, last year outside of like the Rutgers game
and a few others were like those teams weren't gonna
be able to run on anyone. You go, yeah, they
were actually really bad and run defense. So we'll see,
we'll see what Jim Knowles as improved, what he's done,
but we should probably not kind of felt at some
(23:28):
point that's why you pay a seven That's why I
pay seven figures for a new defensive coordinator because of
what happened the last couple of years. It wasn't just
last year either, it was the year before. I mean,
like what Alabama did to them in the championship game. Like, yeah,
there's no question, Um, Albert. As we transition over to
the NFL, what the hell happened in San Francisco at
Jimmy Garoppolo, How did this same thing end up the
(23:49):
way that it did? And what what are you hearing
from people you talk to? Yeah, I mean, I think
I think it really starts with um, the Niners being
being surprised that they couldn't offload Mmy Garoppolo. Obviously, the
the shoulder surgery complicated things over the last six seven months, UM,
and it made it so like at the point when
(24:10):
you'd normally move a player like that, they weren't able
to move them. And you know, I think they sincerely
thought like at some point in August somebody would get desperate,
somebody would throw them a pick and they'd be able
to trade him. Um, you know. And then over the
last couple of weeks, when it became clear that wasn't
gonna happen, they started to talk to Jimmy and they
started talking amongst themselves, how can we solve this creatively?
(24:33):
And um, you know, I I think sitting down with
Jimmy and then Jimmy saying that he'd be open to
under the right circumstances, and then sitting down with Trey
and making include a tray. If this happens, you know,
we're going to um, you know, we're going forward with
you as our starting quarterback. Sitting down to the leadership council,
the team's leadership council and UM and talking to them
(24:57):
about it, you know. And then I think, you know,
really it was a out. You know, how how does
the contract work? And I can tell you for a fact,
like this doesn't happen if Jimmy isn't willing to take
contract with days pay, that was less than tray Lance, Like,
they did not they were not going to do this
unless Jimmy was willing to to go under the eight
and a half million dollars the tray Lance is making
(25:17):
on his contract. So Jilly, Jimmy was willing to do that.
This does a couple of things going forward. Um, you know,
I think creatively for them, Um, first of all, it
opens the window. It leaves that window open to trade
him for another two months. And you know, I think
for for the team, that allows them potentially to get
an asset back over the next couple of months if
there's an injury somewhere, if someone's quarterback situation goes south,
(25:41):
so it extends that window, you know. And then I
think for Jimmy without a really good situation out there
for him right now, that windows open for him to
where over the next couple of months a better situation
might come along, you know. And then if he's looking
forward to three UM, it really for him I think
kind of like is a situation where if he has
to play UM and you know, he plays say three
(26:04):
games or five games, if there's an injury, um the
trail Lance, then what situation is better out there? For
him to look good, um, and to showcase himself for
three and the one in San Francisco rather than going
somewhere else in the backup. And um, because of the way,
I think they're gonna have to play trade lance to
get him going this year. I mean, the reality of
(26:24):
it is, you know, an injury is possible, So you know,
I think it's I mean, look, I'm not gonna tell
you guys, it's an ideal situation. The ideal situation for
everybody is there's a clear starting job out there somewhere
for Jimmy. The Niners are able to get him, get
nasket back for him, and everybody walks away happy. But
that situation just wasn't out there for them, in part,
in large part because of the shoulder surgery. And so
(26:47):
you know, this is a creative sort of Um, you know,
I think compromise they had to come to to make
the best of of what's a really, really awkward situation.
M I'll take it. Um. Let me let me ask
you about the whole uh scenario with Baker Mayfield coming
out and saying he's basically gonna beat that ass uh
(27:09):
with as Q mentioned, you know, with with Oregon in
Ohio State. What has been clearly, you know, Baker Mayfield
is now showing that that signature Baker Mayfield, I mean,
what has been kind of the feedback of that he
has now overtaken obviously the starting job al like it
(27:32):
almost comes across as you know, they add they get
a late late um audition with a trade for another receiver.
They seem to be a team that has the talent
to be able to win. I mean, should we be
taking a different look at this Carolina Pathers team right now? Yeah? Well,
(27:54):
you know what I think the first thing that I
think is encouraging for the Panthers is, I mean this
one and close the quarterback competition there wasn't closed, Like
Baker ran away with it. And you know what does
that say about Sam Donald mac correll. I mean, it
says what it says, But like Baker was very clearly
the best quarterback in camp. And you know, I think
they think that he's going to be able to bring
(28:15):
something a little different to them as as sort of
a point our type of quarterback, as a distributor or
they think they're going to be able to get more
out of guys like b J Moore, and Christian McCaffrey
as a result, you know, of of having that upgrade
at the quarterback spot. So I think that's number one
and then number two. I mean, like, look like if
this is going to happen for Matt Rule, you know,
(28:36):
part of the benefit of passing on quarterbacks the last
few years has should be that you have gotten better
in other areas if you're aster, and so really, you know,
this is gonna be on um that the coaches to
get more out of the town on hand, and it's
gonna be on guys like Derrick Brown and j. C.
Horne and now the Kia quantity that they draft from
(28:57):
n SE State to really develop an to the sort
of core players that they were drafted to be. And
so you know, I think if you're resisting drafting a
quarterbacks for years in a row, and then again it's
on the personnel staff the coaches to develop a really
good team around whoever the quarterback is. And so you know,
they should be in a spot after three years now
(29:19):
where they're not asking the world as a quarterback, what
Bacon Mayfield can just go out there and play um?
And I think that, you know, I look like I
thought they were gonna be a playoff team last year. Obviously,
what all the things went wrong a quarterback and the
injuries elsewhere Um kept that from even coming close to happening.
But I do think that they, you know, like obviously
(29:39):
to make a break here for Matt Rule, but beyond that,
like you know, you look at the talent they brought
in over the last three years, and I don't think
there's any questions they should at least be competitive for
a playoff spot this year, especially in what I think
is a pretty mediocre NFC Albert Um, I want to
not necessarily changed years, kind of stay on the topic
(30:00):
of some of the cuts what's been happening in particular
with the Raiders, but kind of transition to Gruden only
because it seems like that's an indictment on him, not
only as a head coach but slash personnel with what
the essentially the Raiders have done with that roster U
with we all Gruden's picks. But then also hearing publicly
Gruden talking to what the Little Rock Touchdown Club about
(30:21):
wanted to get back and coach you doing talking to
a little a little Rock well, I mean, someone arguing
our series why not talk to him just as it
is that where like Bill Clinton got his political career started. Yeah,
(30:41):
he invited a little little rock. Now that's a cigar
um Anyway, the question really is do you see any
future for John Gruden coming back anytime? So? I mean
he's like sixty years old. Is that's not that old?
Not that young? But he's definitely still capable as Yeah.
(31:02):
I mean, I like Brady, I think he'd like to.
I just I don't know how it happens, you know.
I think what we've seen in the past is these
guys can rehab, their their their their names, right like,
they can rehab and get themselves back on their feet.
And I mean we've seen it at Alabama, right like
what Nick Saban has done with so many guys that
have been through that program, Steve Sarkisi and Lane Kiff
(31:25):
and um you know, I I Butch Jones, like there
there have been so many guys that have that have
come through that program and kind of gotten back up
on their feet and become um like prominent college coaches again,
So I think it can happen. I'm with you, though,
Like I just I look at his age and I'm like,
(31:45):
is that going to happen in a guy's sixties and
like Ken, does he have the time to rehab his
name and to work in football for long enough again?
And is he willing to do that, you know, work
as an assistant somewhere, as a consultant somewhere, or it
kind of re established his name that way where you know,
now when he's what sixty five years old, someone's willing
(32:07):
to hire him and make him the face of the
franchise again. Um, that's the thing, is like, and I think,
you know, you look at the allegations against him and again,
like there have been other guys like you know, Starkesi
is probably Starks is probably the best example of the
guy who hit rock bottom, like the real rock bottom,
you know, and built himself back up and now he's
back in Texas and that's a huge credit to him.
(32:27):
But it took time for that to happen, you know,
to Steve. Steve Sarkisian doesn't go to church. You know,
John Gruden goes to church. He's a good person. You
have include the good sons too, by the way, you know,
I mean, I just think I think the problem, I
just think the problem is it's just like again, like,
(32:48):
you're gonna be like some billionaires gonna have to want
to make John Gruden the face of his franchise, and like,
after everything that happened and everything that was in those
emails and everything else, Um, you have to make not
just a football decision, but the business decision to make
John Gruden the face of your franchise. And I just
(33:08):
think it's going to take It would take time for
him to rehab himself to have a billionaire of the
position where he wanted to do that over all the
other options that a billionaire would have. Can I throw
out a billionaire or an owner that I think maybe
could do it? Would do it? Sure? Jimmy HASSLM. That's interesting.
(33:32):
I mean that's interesting. I like, I think you presume that,
like then Kevin Stefanski and Andrew Barry. Yeah, I'm saying
if that doesn't work out, right, if that doesn't work out,
I mean, I just like that's the thing is though,
Brady is like, like, would you have wouldn't there would
there be a better option out there? And after like
doing going through all this with Deshaun Watson, would you
(33:54):
want to do it again? Would you want to double
down on it? Again, and so I mean, like, look
like I like, I I'm all about giving guys second chances.
Like I think that there are a lot of great
stories of guys getting second chances and making it work.
I just again, like I think you need some runway
for that, Like you need to have there need to
(34:14):
there needs to be some time served. And you know,
like like would John Gruen be willing to go be
a lieutenant somewhere um to go kind of serve his
time that way and put in those sorts of years
to re establish his name in the NFL and then
at sixty five years old in a league that's increasingly
skewing towards hiring younger people, is he the kind of
(34:38):
person that you can sell to your fan base if
you want, of these owners. I just I don't know
that the timeline. Uh yeah, right right, that's the other
part of it. Like, so I just think that there's
and here's the other thing too. It's if you look at, like,
where when was the last time John Gruden was ultra
(34:59):
successful as an NFL coach? I mean, now we're at
the point where it was like twenty years ago, right
like almost twenty years ago. So like That's the other
thing is like the gap between like the last time
he was successful and now just continues to grow. And
it's not just that like television was in between that
(35:21):
and now anymore. Now you've got like a failed coaching
stint in Oakland and Vegas and then obviously everything that
happened with the emails, and so I just think he
becomes hard to sell to the public, hard to sell
your fan base, of your owner. And then you know,
like you said, LaVar, probably pretty hard to sell you
the locker room. Get him on Twitter at Albert Brier,
(35:42):
senior NFL reporter at the mm QB all eyes on
Notre Dame in Ohio State on this show in regards
to the battle between Brady, that's here. We got anything,
we got anything would have said up for next week? Yeah,
what are we looking at? Yeah, we'll figure out something
on all right minus seventeen, get Honor some points and
then we can make something work here. Let's let's make
(36:03):
it happy points. Um, Albert, we appreciate it, have a
good one, and then we will do it again next week.

We will get into what it means moving forward for
the league, but right now it's time for this. Sometimes
you can't get to everything in the world of sports
or entertainment. Good thing, the guys are here to bring
(37:29):
you in case you missed it, and for that we
turn it over to our executive producer Lee La Guys.
In case you missed this, Netflix is rumored to be
making a documentary on the O eight Florida Gators, starting
up Tim Tebow and Urban Meyer. Who else was on
that team? Yeah, Aaron Hernandez. Yeah, I forgot some on
(37:52):
their right. Percy Harvin was on that team, right, isn't
Leto Shephard on that team? Brandon Spice? Shepherd sold that
he was a little older, Um, Brandon Brandon on that day,
I thought that he was. You could be right on
that one. Riley Cooper. Riley Cooper, by the way, had
(38:14):
had the Riley Cooper thing happened like six years later.
What are we talking about? He got he didn't he
get a contract extension right after Big One wasn't as significant.
I think then he was gone quick. Yeah, you know,
got a lot of heat for that one. Um is
(38:34):
just because they saw how successful the man t how
documentary was and now they're like, all right, so now
Florida once in on the act. Just the new thing? Though?
Are these documentaries there like little like short documentaries though,
it's like the new thing to four Partner, They're good. Yeah,
I like them. Yeah, they're good. I just wonder. It's
just I mean, are they stealing as well? As long
(38:56):
as it's well done, it's good entertainment. Invitation is the
biggest form of flattery. Well what would they be stealing?
You know because Notre Dame was featured and so then
Florida's like, well, we want to be featured too, So
they're gonna roll out their own I just wonder, like
what the story is gonna be. Is it gonna be
like the nice side of things? Everything going to be
(39:20):
the real? Yeah? Like I live in South Florida. I've
got some buddies who what us during that time. Trust me,
there was a lot of shenanigans going on, and they're like, yeah,
I have no idea how guys were arrested for us,
Like oh okay, yeah, well it's like the Aaron Hernandez
your people talk about all the stuff that went down
(39:42):
in college that you never heard of that nationally, and
then afterwards like no, no, no no, no, no, no, this
guy had an issue back then, there were problems, you know,
him beating people up in a bar. Didn't he shoot
some guy in the face? I think, yeah, like some
guy lost his eye because he shot at him. And
they were like, well, we can't prove a tear in
her nandez and it's like, okay, well, how could you
not prove someone shot someone in the face. Seems like
(40:03):
pretty simple. I mean who knows. I mean you're either
a hell of a marksman and you shot it from
really far away, or like no one wants to because
the guy had a record though. That's why the guy,
the guy who got his eyes shot. That was the
thing against him. Yeah, he wasn't as important. Butt on himself.
(40:24):
I mean that is that is a disgrace what he
just did. More individual, He wasn't important. Sorry for your eyes.
