It’s a Football Friday on 2 Pros and a Cup of Joe, and Jonas Knox recaps Thursday Night Football that had no real upside for the Cowboys and hopefully kept the Titans out of the Playoffs. Broncos WR Jerry Jeudy defends his QB Russell Wilson, who might just be the worst starter in the league this year and the Giants have a chance to clinch the playoffs for the first time in 5 years, which should lock Brian Daboll in for Coach of the Year.

Speaker 1 (00:01):
It's the best of two pros and a couple of
Joe with LaVar Brady Quinn and Joe Miss Knocks on
Fox Sports Radio. So listen to LaVar Arrington. He's a
college football Hall of Famer. He's being pulled in several
different directions. Guys, gonna be at the Peach Bowl. He's
gonna beat the Rose Bowl, which, you know, I'm not

(00:24):
sure how how LaVar is gonna feel about hanging out
at the Rose Bowl and it's pouring rain. But again,
we'll figure that all that stuff out. You know, it's
it's gonna be fine. You know Brady Quinn's I mean,
he's he's being pulled in a bunch of different direction directions,
And don't worry about it. We're gonna take this show
all the way up for the next three hours. We're
gonna have some fun. Like I said, We're gonna bust balls,
We're gonna do the usuals. Oh and by the way,

(00:46):
it's still a football Friday. Yeah yeah, what does that mean? Burnout? Uh,
it is a football Friday here on Fox Sports Radio,
MOLLOI Justin Cooper just passed by said one of the

(01:09):
most vulgar things I've ever heard somebody in radio same
moments before the show, which, by the way, he was
honest something though it is much better than the soda.
But here's the point. Can we just have a real
conversation about last night's game in the NFL. Let's have
a real conversation here right on a couple of fronts. Okay,

(01:30):
but let's let's be honest. I'm gonna need you to
put your fandom down. I'm gonna need you to put
your dislike down. I'm gonna need you to put your
fatigue for the coverage of a certain team down. And
let's just be totally completely honest together. All right, you
and I together, Let's have this honest conversation. What was
the upside for the Dallas Cowboys in that game last night?

(01:53):
I mean, seriously, what was the upside? Like? If you're
gonna hear anybody break down and be critical of the
Dallas Cowboys or throw praise at the Dallas Cowboys, I
would love to know why. What was the upside like?
If you want to start from the critical standpoint, well, yeah,

(02:14):
Dak Prescott through two interceptions, Okay, we're gonna be fair
about it. I mean one of them was it was
a deflection, you know, I mean like, that's the second
time in recent weeks since has happened. It happened against
the Jaguars and overtime. I'm not saying Dac wasn't guilty
of some poor throws in that game, but really, in totality,
what was the upside? I mean, Micah Parsons was playing

(02:38):
the game with a club on the end of his wrist,
like he he looked like Jamie Lanister post surgery on
Game of Thrones, Like what what was really the If
you just want to be totally truthful about it and
look at expectations, Dallas covered the spread, and you can say, well,
what is it. What does the gambling line? Me? Well,

(03:00):
the gambling line is set, and that's sort of a
barometer to whether or not you performed either below expectations
or above expectations. And the Dallas Cowboys, by rule, exceeded expectations.
They covered a spread. And so if you in December

(03:22):
can go on the road on a short week and
beat a team by fourteen in not ideal conditions at times,
to me, you performed above expectations. But the fact of
the matter is, if you just want to get down

(03:42):
to the to the total truth of the Dallas Cowboys.
None of this matters. There's no upside for that game
last night. Yeah, but they're still in contention to win
the division. They're not winning the division. Let's just like
they're not. It's not happening. Philly is gonna win the
division and Dallas is going to be a wild card team.

(04:06):
But if you look at the Dallas Cowboys, like, let's
let's say, just let's play this game. Dak Prescott and
the Dallas Cowboys go out last night and they mutilate
the Tennessee Titans on Amazon Prime. Dak Prescott throws for
five hundred and sixty yards, He's got five touchdowns. The

(04:26):
defense pitches a shutout, completely mutilate the Tennessee Titans and
beat him sixty to nothing. Does any of that matter?
If they go out in the divisional round and lose
in the playoffs, none of it matters. Like they're like,

(04:47):
there was no upside to last night's game. So I
don't come away from that game last night and go,
oh my god, Josh Dobbs making his first start, and
I mean, I mean, that's the performance you rolled out, dude.
They won the game. They're not based and they're not
being judged on regular season wins anymore or losses. If
they are, it's because certain shows on certain places in

(05:08):
certain networks like to break down the Dallas Cowboys because
they know it's a ratings draw. And you've got a
lot of people who love the Cowboys and a lot
of people who hate them. But there was zero to
gain for the Dallas Cowboys in that game last night.
They won the game. They covered the spread, Dak Press
got through a couple of picks. It looked a little

(05:31):
dicey in the first half at times, but they won
the game. You move on. There was so you can't.
There's nothing you can take away from that game last
night and go, oh my god, that could be a
problem moving forward. None of it's gonna matter. If they
play the NFC South champion on the road in the
first in the first round of the playoffs and they

(05:52):
lose that game, I don't think they will. I think
they're gonna win, which is why I said the divisional round,
because I think that's where this team's gonna end up.
And then we just then from there, it's now you
see what you got. But based on all the playoff
failures last year against San Francisco, the Dallas Cowboys are
being judged differently and should be rightly so, being judged

(06:13):
differently than a lot of teams in the NFL. Like
if you were to just if I were to do
blind team test, you just did a blind team test,
and I described a team to you, And in my description,
I describe a team to you that's twelve and four
with an opportunity to win a road playoff game and

(06:37):
most likely going to win a road playoff game, and
a chance to play a team that they've already beaten
before who's got an ailing quarterback. You would say, I
like that team's chances. That seems like a team that
could actually make a run win that second round playoff
game against a team with an ailing starting quarterback back.

(07:01):
And that team is going to be in an NFC
title game. That's the Cowboys. Yeah, we come away from
last night's game and I guarantee you there's gonna be
people that nitpicked the performance of Dak Prescott and the
Dallas Cowboys. It was a crummy condition game against a
team that was starting a bunch of backups in late

(07:23):
December on a short week on the road. You covered
you one, you got out of there, and now you
move on to next week. But the reality is this week,
next week, there really isn't a whole lot of upside
for the Dallas Cowboys if they go out and crap
themselves in the first or second round of the postseason.

(07:43):
Jonas knocks Fox Sports Radio two pros and a cup
of Joe right here on FS are all right, let's
get into this. I'm not a big fan of prequels,
just by rule, not a big fan because I already
know how it ends, So why why do I want
to see how it starts? Like if you went through
every awful situation in your life and I said, hey, look,

(08:08):
I know this was a really rough day for you.
You had a death in the family, you got dumped,
dog died, whatever the case may be, got into an accident,
whatever it is. Do you want to hear how the
rest of the day went before then? No? I'm good, No,
not really? Are you sure? I mean, I know you've
got in a car accident, but hey, guess what, at

(08:28):
least that cup of coffee you had to start out
the day was on point. Yeah, I'm not really interested
the car accident kind of ruined it for me. I'm
not a big fan of prequels. It's like a lot
of people tell me the Better Call Saul great prequel
of Breaking Bad, and it's like, Okay, I respect it,
that's awesome. There's some people who would argue, maybe it's

(08:50):
even better than Breaking Bad. I don't know. I've never
seen Better Call Saul, never had any interest to, because
I gotta be honest with you. After six or seven
seasons and like a hundred episodes of some guy with
cancer wearing butt huggers making crystal meth out of an
RV with red mountains in the background, for some reason,

(09:12):
that just got me depressed. I don't know why. It's weird.
For some reason, that was a downer for me. Point being,
I'm not interested in the prequel if I know how
it's gonna end. Can the Jacksonville Jaguars just win the
a f C South, please, for the love of Christ,
can you just win the a f C South, Because

(09:32):
everybody knows how the story is gonna end. If Tennessee
gets into the playoffs, Okay, at least, can we get
something different? Please? Can we get something different? And I'm
not trying to be disrespectful. We have a great affiliate
on in Nashville, The Zone in Nashville, great fan base,
love Mike Rabel. There's a lot to like about the
Tennessee Titans, but damn, what the hell was that? Like

(09:58):
the Josh Dobbs story, it's great first ever NFL start. Hey,
and I would argue Josh Dobbs played pretty well considering
the circumstances. But you can rest whoever you want for
this week and last night's game just to get to
week eighteen, because last night didn't really matter. All I'm
saying is this for the rest of the country, for

(10:19):
the rest of America who have seen how this story ends,
which is usually the quarterback you have who more often
than not is wearing number seventeen throws like some early picks,
or loses a home game to Cincinnati last year, or
you've got to turn to Derrick Henry and the passing
attack near the end zone because you're starting quarterbacks thrown

(10:40):
for like fourteen yards a game, but you still you're
making a run to the a f C title game. Look,
there's a lot to like about the Tennessee Titans, but
I've seen it before. And so have you. So all,
I'm asking no offense, But with the injuries and the
backstory and what we've seen previously, can we just get

(11:00):
the Jacksonville Jaguars in the playoffs and just instill some
new blood. They're not gonna win a game. They look,
they're set to play the Chargers. Whoever is playing the
Chargers in the first round is gonna get annihilated. They're
not like Jacksonville is not winning that game. But at
least give us something different, because we've already seen this
Tennessee story before. Be sure to catch live editions of

(11:22):
Two Pros and a Cup of Joe with Brady Quinn,
LaVar Arrington and Jonas Knocks week days at six am
Easter three am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the
I Heart Radio. Somebody decided, you know what, I'm tired
of everybody being so mean, tired of it. Teammates have
now all of a sudden, jumped to the defense of
Russell Wilson. Now, look, I'm guilty of it. You're guilty

(11:46):
of it. Uh, A little bit cornball stuff from Russell
Wilson all year. I mean, if you want to be
honest about it, a little bit of cornball stuff from
Russell Wilson. For a long time, nobody else wanted to
say anything. Yet a lot of guys in the Seahawks
locker room we were trying to call the stuff out
years ago, nobody wanted to listen, you know. I mean, look,
it's it's just a little cringe e. It's a little awkward.

(12:07):
The uh, you know, practicing the high fives to come
out to practice, you know, like uh, the subway commercial
which is just odd, Like some of the outtakes from that,
the stuff he does on like snap face or TikTok
whatever whichever one it is. I mean, look, a lot
of that stuff is just weird. Oh and on top

(12:27):
of it, he's been awful this year. Worst starting quarterback
in the NFL. Like, just let that sink in. Worst
starting quarterback in the NFL. Like I would actually argue
that Mike white best performance was better than Russell Wilson's

(12:49):
best performance this year. So we're looking at the worst
starting quarterback in the NFL with all that money and
everything that comes along with it. And so now you've
got a teammates who have finally had enough and they
have jumped out to fend Russell Wilson case in point
Jerry Judy wide receiver Jerry Judy, who, by the way,
apparently you can make physical contact with an official and

(13:10):
not get suspended for it, which is weird. It's weird
how that works. But you know, that story got kind
of slid under the rug. But Jerry Judy defended Russell Wilson,
and he was defending him because there was a an
article that came out via Barstool Sports that pointed out
that Russell Wilson apparently has his own office and private

(13:31):
parking spot at the Broncos facility. All right, well for starters,
where the hell's everybody been, Brady Quinn reported on this
months ago. I can't believe this is just now making
the rounds. Brady Quinn on this show months of months ago,
because he's got connections in Denver said, yeah, from people

(13:53):
I've talked to, Russ got his own office, he's got
all these own perks and so on and so forth.
This was months ago, documented and discussed on this show,
and a couple of months later, now it's making the
rounds as the Broncos season is in the toilet and
they're out of head coach and now there's questions about
what the hell the direction of the organization is going

(14:14):
to be after this season. So where the hell were you?
Another example as to why you have to listen to
this show because we were on this story and on
this topic months ago before everybody else started to take
it and run with it on social media. But never
mind all that. Jerry Judius defended these accusations and statements
that Russell Wilson apparently has his own office and private

(14:38):
parking spot at the Broncos facility, and he says, amongst
other things, I ain't gonna keep looking at these false
statements about my boy Russman as a teammate who sees
the elite work ethic this man has is uncomparable. He
got an office because he's committed to his life to
the game. I never had a teammate who motivated me

(15:00):
more than Russell Wilson, all right. So what he has said,
upon seeing and reading the claims that Russell Wilson has
his own office and private parking spot, is that Russell
Wilson's got an office because he's committed his life to
the game, all right. So like it's true, but like

(15:23):
not all of it's true. That would be like somebody
walking up to you and going a you're an a hole,
you're a deadbeat, and you're an alcoholic, and your responses,
first of all, don't you ever call me an a hole? Okay?
But deadbeat and alcoholic or fine? Alright, so the other
two are fined. So it's not totally accurate. So we
have found flaws of the statement. All right, we found
a significant flaws in the statement. But let's go ahead

(15:44):
and go with that one. Look big picture, this season
might actually turn out to be a good thing for
Russell Wilson, Like if you look at it big picture,
because I mean, no matter what he's been bold, no
matter what, I don't care how much money you make.

(16:06):
When the conversation for you goes from guaranteed Hall of
Famer to this season so bad that maybe we have
to revisit that discussion about your career, that is a
humbling thing. Like I can't think of a lot of
guys who were no doubt about it going to be

(16:31):
Hall of famers who in one season you look back
and you go, I don't know. The only other guy
I can think of in recent memory is Antonio Brown. Obviously,
for much different reasons, for much different reasons. But Antonio
Brown went from that guy is gonna be a Hall
of Famer, had like a five or six year stretch

(16:52):
where he was the best wide receiver in the NFL
and it wasn't even close. And you can go back
and look at that stretch. It's unbelievable, best wide receiver
in the NFL and not even an argument. And in
the matter of one year, he quit on the Steelers,
burned his feet in a cry oh Chamber, sent out

(17:15):
a tweet with the hashtag no more white women in
did a rap video with white women, which was odd.
Little you know, it feels like we kind of, you know,
forgot about the hashtag on the previous tweet, but ended
up in Miami, got accused of all sorts of misconduct

(17:35):
off the field, or ended up in New England, played
one game in Miami, got accused of all sorts of
stuff off the field, got cut by the Patriots, then
got picked up by Tampa Bay, then ruined his relationship
with Tom Brady, then sent out pictures of him and
Tom Brady's x Y. I mean, you talk about going
from guaranteed Hall of Famer to that'll go ahead and

(17:58):
do it. Uh, I don't not sure who's the only
that's the only other guy I can think of other
than Russell Wilson, who in the matter of one season
completely changed all of that. So if you're just looking
at where Russ's career was headed, maybe this is what
he needed, Like maybe you got to be humbled sometimes,
and maybe this is gonna be the best thing for him.

(18:20):
And so to see teammates come out and defend him,
I think it's that's cool, that's admirable, because all you've
heard is the negative stuff. Like all you've heard is
Richard Sherman and Marshawn Lynch and a lot of other
guys point to look this stuff with Pete Carroll's taking
shots at Russell Wilson, Like, all you've heard is the
bad stuff. And so when you see a couple of

(18:43):
his teammates come out and defend him, maybe Russell Wilson's
gonna look after this season and go all right, I
gotta get back on track and focuses to what the
what the important stuff is. Maybe this is going to
turn out to be a good thing. Right. It's like, look,
how do you learn not to do things when you're
a kid, well, you know you you screw up a
little bit. I can remember throwing a temper tantrum. I

(19:06):
got pissed because my mom wouldn't let me have a
sip of her diet coke. Was a true story, It's
embarrassing true story. I decided I was going to be
a smartass at like five years old, and through a
temper tantrum and spun my head around and knocked myself
on the corner of the wall. And to this day,

(19:27):
I still have a bone that protrudes out of the
side of my head. I've got a horn on the
side of my head because I threw a temper tantrum.
Guess what I've never done after that, throwing a temper
tantrum because somebody didn't give me a sip of their
diet coke right, never one time. In fact, I didn't
even think it was diet coke. I think it was
like Diet Shasta because that was a cheaper store brand
at the supermarket near our house. But point being, you

(19:51):
learn your lesson, you move on. So maybe Russell Wilson's
gonna learn his lesson. Maybe he's gonna be humbled by
all this I'm fascinated to see what next year looks
like for the dead Lebroncos and for us. Be sure

others with the New York Giants have talked about the
importance of this weekend. Right, So the New York Giants

(20:56):
host the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday and if they in
there in the playoffs, and so the idea is you
don't want to take a chance. If you've got an
opportunity to close, and you've got an opportunity to get
into the postseason, and you can control your own destiny,
you don't want to take a chance because in week eighteen,

(21:18):
now you're at Philadelphia, and who the hell knows how
this weekend is going to go for the Eagles. I
think they're gonna be fine against New Orleans without Jalen Hurts,
And I would assume Jalen Hurts is not playing here.
He showed up back at practice in a limited capacity.
But if all of a sudden, Philly has got something
to play for next week and you're the Giants, you've
just made your job that much more difficult. So se

(21:41):
Kwon Barkley's point was, look, why let's just wrap this up.
Let's get this done. Like they've kind of it's kind
of not been all that hot over the past several weeks.
I mean, they got that win against the Commanders. You know,
that was the primetime game. Whether there you know, may
or may not have been past interference and Terry McLaurin
got called for, you know, being off sides when the

(22:05):
official gave him the okay. But other than that, like
you tied the Commanders the week before. You've lost four
of your last six. It just it hasn't been all
that great for the Giants recently. But you can get
to the playoffs. And so see Kwan Barkley's point spot on,
don't take a chance, get to the playoffs. Close it
out this week and then you'll figure out who you play.

(22:26):
But the point is, just get into the dance. Just
get into the dance. And I don't want to play
spoiler here, but the Giants are clinching a playoffs spot
this weekend. It's happening. Indianapolis stinks. There's already some reports
that Jeff Saturday is going to be gone next year. Uh,

(22:47):
Indianapolis is going to lose this weekend and the Giants
are going to the playoffs. So we do have some
good news. The Giants are going to the playoffs this weekend,
and it will be the first time getting the postseason
since the season. And if you remember that was the
boat game. Remember how Odell Beckham Jr. And some Giants

(23:09):
players were wearing like Timberland's and standing on some you know,
some yacht or some boat in Miami or something like that.
And then they went at green Bay and completely melted
down there at lambeau Field and they lost that. That
was actually the last playoff game the Giants took part in,
So just think about that. Think about where you were

(23:30):
when Odell Beckham Jr. Got criticized for playing poorly after
partying the week of the playoff game on a yacht
in Miami. That was the last time the Giants have
been into the playoffs. So them getting into the postseason
it's kind of a rare occurrence nowadays, but it's awesome

(23:51):
from a tradition standpoint. If you're like me and you
grew up watching Look, even if even if you're older
than me, the Giants have always been of the blue
blood organizations of the NFL. Whether you grew up in
the eighties, if you grew up in the nineties, the
Giants have always had success. If you grew up previous
to that, there's always been great players on the Giants,

(24:13):
But if you grew up and that's why when they
did the throwback jerseys this year where they had the
helmets with with with the Giants across it, it just
reminded me of watching football growing up, watching the NFL
growing up. When I first fell in love with the
NFL because you can remember those great Giants teams, and
so the fact that you fast forward all these years
later and they've got an opportunity this weekend to clinch

(24:36):
a playoff spot. From a tradition standpoint, it's awesome. It
also means Brian day Ball should be Coach of the
Year in the NFL and it shouldn't even be close.
It shouldn't be close. Now the odds would dictate and
indicate that Brian Flores or excuse me, Brian day Ball

(24:57):
is not going to be coach of the Year because
you've got Nick Sirianni, who's the favorite. You've got Dan
Campbell mixed in, You've got Kyle Shanahan. There, there's Kevin
O'Connell who's getting some love, Doug Peterson. All of those
guys deserve some level of credit for the performance of
their teams. Look, Nick Sirianni's at the best team in football.

(25:19):
And for a guy like Nick Sirianni, who a lot
of people thought was a stop gap coach or sort
of a plan B because they were trying to figure
out with the direction of the organization, he's done a
hell of a job love Dan Campbell, love what the
lines have done. Kyle Shannon unlike his eighteenth quarterback this season.
And San Francisco plays better and better, and they're the

(25:40):
hottest team in the NFL. Them and Cincinnati two hottest
teams in the NFL. Kevin O'Connell, what he's done with Minnesota, fantastic,
Doug Peterson and the turnaround there in Jacksonville if they
get into the postseason, all of that. Listen full credit
for me. Brian day Ball is the coach of the
Year in the NFL. And I really don't think it's

(26:01):
all that close. Think about this. The Giants have had
one winning season in the last ten years. That great
franchise with all the tradition and all the backstory and
that blue blood organization, They've got one winning season the

(26:22):
last ten years. The last playoff game they won was
the second Super Bowl against the Patriots, you know, long ago.
That was like that second Super Bowl they want against
the Patriots, the Mario Manningham catch on the sideline, Tom

(26:43):
Brady's then wife criticizing Wes Welker for the drop, the
Hail Mary at the end to try and win it
with Rob Gronkowski, who had like one leg because he
had a busted up ankle and some other injury he
was dealing with. That was the last playoff game the
Giants won was that Super Bowl, and since that playoff

(27:05):
game they won, that's super Bowl that they won. The
Giants are almost forty games under five hundred coming into
this season. That puts you in company with teams like
the Jags, the Browns, the Lions, and the Jets, which

(27:28):
is like saying I'm sharing a house and my roommates
are O. J. Simpson, Jeffrey Dahmer, the night Stocker, and
Ted Bundy. At some point you gotta move out. I'm sorry.
I don't care that they're clean. I don't care that
all the rent is paid on time. At some point
you gotta look around and go I gotta get out
of these surroundings. It doesn't work for me. That's who

(27:49):
the Giants have kept company with over the past decade,
almost forty games under five hundred, and they can clean
chip playoffs spot this weekend, with, amongst other things, a
quarterback that they didn't even want and the previous two

(28:09):
coaches couldn't figure out what to do with. Record wise,
they're in the best division in football. So you've got
a quarterback nobody wanted anything to do with, and the
previous two guys we're looking around for answers. I don't know.
I mean, maybe this just isn't it so much so
that the organization diad me did me him pick up

(28:30):
his option and you can clinch a playoffs spot in
the best division in football this weekend? How the hell
is Brian dave Ball not the runaway favorite win coach
of the year? I I honestly, I don't think it's
at all close whatsoever when you take into account what

(28:51):
he inherited and where this team is at and the
fact that there and I keep saying they could, they're
going to clinch a playoff spot this weekend. To me,
it is a no brainer. Of all the awards were
handing out after the season, whether you're talking about Defensive
Player of the Year and everyone thinks, okay, well it's
it's Nick Bosa, or it's Micah Parsons, the m v P,

(29:12):
it's got to be Patrick Mahomes like all of if
you're looking for somebody who deserves the honor based on
where the organization has been, the previous failures of not
just a couple of years. This isn't just he took
over an organization that struggled last year and they've made
a quick turnaround. We're talking a decade of awful play.

(29:36):
We're a decade of terrible play, no playoff wins since
your last Super Bowl and that was the second to
the Patriots, when Wes Welker was still on the team,

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

I’m Jay Shetty host of On Purpose the worlds #1 Mental Health podcast and I’m so grateful you found us. I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
