Speaker 1 (00:01):
It is the best of two pros and a couple
of Joe with LaVar areas, Rady Quinn and Jonas Knocks
on radio. Hey, we're getting closer to UH Super Conference Championship,
Weekend Championship. Who's who's not? It's fired up for that,
(00:24):
Come on bad uh. Now. The big story in the
NFL is the health of Patrick Mahomes. All Right, everybody's
wondering he's got He's got this this high ankle sprain,
but apparently he heals better than a lot of people.
And Patrick Mahomes talked yesterday about not only the injury
right now, but the one he's sustained back in twenty nineteen,
some differences, and gave an update on his prognosis moving forward.
(00:47):
It's doing good, you know, a few days of treatment,
a few days of rehab. Excited to get on the
practice field and kind of tested out and see where
I'm at. But it's feeling good so far. So the
last one it was a leg that I landed on,
so I had to find ways to throw where I
can and and keep it in the right spot. And
this time I'll have the fun ways to be able
to push off and be able to still make the
throws the right way. So uh, definitely similar in a sense,
(01:08):
but obviously different limitations and stuff that all the work through.
All right, So how we're feeling about it, QB one,
How we're feeling about it? All Right? This injury is
opposed to the last one. You got some some sports
betting books out there that have taken the line off
the board. You could still get bangles minus one in
some spots, but there's some out there that are looking
at it going, yeah, we're gonna go ahead and and left,
(01:29):
leave this off the board until we know for sure
what's going to happen coming up in this game. And
so it feels like there's a lot more optimism of
Patrick Mahomes. And there was a couple of days ago
when the injury, right after the injury first occurred. I
think this might go down as one of the more
overblown injuries that there's been. I mean, I'll be serious,
what do you mean? There was defer a doubt he
(01:49):
wasn't gonna play, Like for people to think that, I mean,
the line movement would have been huge, which it never
really like was initially. And I'm saying if Mahomes wasn't
playing since that he would be like a five point favorite.
I mean that, that's how drastic it would be. It's
never been that. You know, he played obviously in finished
(02:10):
last week's game, which would lead you to think he's
gonna play the following week. And he has to play.
He knows that. So the bottom line is, I just
feel like this whole thing was so overblown and has
been overblown. Will he be limited, yes, he could. That
be the difference in the game, sure, But he's playing
like the whole time. There's never a town in my
(02:31):
mind whether or not he was gonna play, And I
really didn't care whether or not he practiced. You know,
I know what Andy Reid said, you know as far
as previously that Holmes has never played and not practiced
that week. But at this point in time the season,
you're walked throughs mostly like you're not doing a whole
lot out there. You're so deep in the season. Everyone's
(02:52):
just trying to maintain their health, the body and all that.
So I think this has been one of the more
overblown things. It's Thursday. Will continue to talk about this
tomorrow through the weekend, and Jonas is gonna blow it
up like nothing you've ever heard the show. Yeah, but
Jonas Knock Show, I can't use JKS because it's taken
(03:12):
by some from Eastern on Saturdays. He's gonna make the
biggest deal about it, and it's not that big of
a deal. But they listen. They call me the high
ankle sprain hype man. That's what I do. You got
a high ankle sprain, I'll hype it up until that
ankle gets healed. That's what I do here on this show.
Everybody needs a hype man. The reason why it's a
big story is because it sets your storyline. And then, well, yeah,
(03:35):
that's true. It's hard. It's hard to move beyond the
fact that, well, it's a big story because Jonas wants
it to be. But I'll say this, I'm sure a
lot of other people that are covering it are looking
at it as as a narrative builder. If if Cincinnati
were to win, then it'll ultimately be about the greatness
(03:56):
of Joe Burrow and Patrick Mahomes not being healthy enough
to be what he needed to be in the game,
and how Cincinnati has Kansas City's number. If they win
the game, it's one, it's here, it's here. What is
it called heroicism? Is that was called performance by Patrick Mahomes.
(04:17):
Heroicism is a word too right here? Heel, I mean
it's in a word. I mean, I'm just saying, okay, well, anyway,
it is very heroic if if Patrick Mahomes is is
able to get out there and play well enough for
the team to win, and then now that sets the
(04:39):
stage for an even bigger narrative for Patrick Mahomes hitting
into the super Bowl. Because Patrick Mahomes literally, which will
be the storyline on one and a half leg legs,
will have been able to take his team yet again
to a Super Bowl. I mean, he is having one
(05:00):
of the most brilliant careers of ending football player ever
to play the game. And so I think that that's
why it's a big deal, because I mean, Patrick Mahomes
is a big deal. Five straight a f C championship.
It's incredible. I mean it is a little reminiscent of
of Brady esque. I mean, I know the Super Bowls
(05:22):
haven't really come with that, right, He's only one one,
but he's he's venturing into territory where it feels like
every single year. If you're someone who's into gambling, you
say I'm gonna I'm gonna bet on the Chiefs to
win it all or I've been beat. At least the
Chiefs to win the a f C because I know
they'll be there um and and Mark Burrows and back
to back years. But maybe this will be Cincinnati moving forward.
(05:45):
Although I do feel like they've they always are going
to have a tough, tough time to the a f
C North. That's just a tough division to get through,
in a physical division. But it's it's incredible. It really is.
When you think about what Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes
and everyone else involved has been a part of the
last five years. Just always make it to the f
C Championship game. People on the outside have no idea
(06:07):
how difficult that is. I mean, it's it's similar to
when we talk about the Buffalo Bills. They go into
four straight Super Bowls. I mean that in and of
itself is ridiculous. I mean, they didn't win any, but
you know that that's sometimes how the cookie crumbles. I
just I look at what they've done and think they're
kind of that what could be the next dynasty. They
(06:28):
just need some things to break their way. Yeah, and
also just to see to see super pumped up today, buddy,
I'm just fired up. Man. We're right around the corner
from Super Conference Championship weekend. Super Conference Championship weekend, why not?
I mean, it was Super wild Card weekend. If we're
throwing words around, let's just throw it around. Let's make
(06:48):
everything super and we've got the Super Bowl after that.
So we've got Super Conference Championship game weekend. We got
super heroic performance by Patrick mahomes on on a blown
out wheel like that, being able to get through practice
yesterday and to walk through and then be ready to
go for this game. I think this is important stuff.
I think you're downplaying it. You're a little bit too much.
I mean this, this could really impact his throwing motion,
(07:12):
you know. I mean, is there is there a particular
leg you would prefer to have a high ankle spraining
on the right handed quarterback you prefer to have on
your left leg. You don't want it on your back leg.
That's your push leg, that's when you drive off of.
You'd rather have it on your left leg. I knew
somebody at some point I was gonna go on your balance,
(07:37):
your extra balance leg. Um, Well, this is on the
back leg. So when that wouldn't that increase the uh,
the heroic level of his performance seeing U seeing this. Yeah,
but I'll say this. You'll see him in warmups moving
around yesterday. Yeah, it's fine, just fine. He was a normal,
(07:57):
little kind of odd jog that he's got that looks
you could be limping, but it's kind of what it
always looks like. Okay, can I can? I probably got
a massage, you know, like a legitimate masseuse came in
and rubbed it out and and then he got the
juices from the gods um and they popped him and
that thing feel good. Okay, can you use the Can
(08:21):
you use the tour at all prints for this high
ankle sprainer? Is that more for stuff? And like the
it's aspirin Jonas, That's all it is. It's it's just
it's liquid aspirin, that's all it is. So the tort
all Angel doesn't mean the risk you always have, by
the way, with using turtle as you make things worse
(08:42):
because your body for a period of time is going
to feel better than it should and you're not gonna
feel potentially if you if you reinjure it and injure
worse than that. So I don't know. It all depends
on the athlete and how they want to play, what
they want to feel. But it could It's like it's
it could remove the inflammation and and sometimes the biggest,
the biggest part of healing from I don't think it's inflammatory.
(09:05):
I think it's a pain reliever. Right, It is a reliever,
but it also it also subsides the inflammation that you
you may have in the situation that you had, Like, yeah,
I mean it works for that, so it's not it's not. Well,
I don't want to get into being a doctor because
I'm certainly not that, but not everybody else does it. Yeah,
just go on Twitter and start tweeting whatever you want.
(09:28):
Come on, I don't have the I don't have that
type of ego, you know what I mean? Come on, well,
some of us do it at our station. Um listen
um for me. I just I think that as long
as they can manage which it looks as seemingly that
they're able to manage the pain of it, um and
(09:50):
his tolerance will will be there again him at him,
and I guess it's you're going against Joe Burrow, So
it doesn't really count for much. But I mean, you
gotta say, if he's got the tolerance to be at
seventy eight for this game health wise, that's I'm taking
him probably nine times out of ten over anybody else
(10:15):
I'm taking. Yeah, I'm taking them. I'm taking them. So
if I'm Andy Reid and I'm IF and I'm the
Kansas City Chiefs, for one, I think that this works
in their favor, guys, because I know, as a defender,
if Q is hurt and that's my QB, you know
what we're thinking. We gotta step up, guys. This is
(10:38):
a step up game. Like, let's prepare heart, let's let's
be ready for this because anything and everything can happen
in this game. It's it's a one game season. It's
the game before the super Bowl. Like you, we got
a defensive Player of the Year candidate on our on
our squad, Like, let's go out here, let's show up,
(10:58):
and let's show off. And and that level of of intensity,
that level of focus that the defense is going to
have from staff on down to players, I think it's
gonna be at a high level. And then I'll take
it a step further. I bet you the offensive guys
feel that way as well. Not to say that the
offensive alignment isn't going to go out of his way
(11:18):
to protect his quarterback to begin with, but we all
have this like this, this human quality where when you
feel like someone you care about could be in in
a situation of danger, you just have something extra to
you and you're gonna give extra, and you're gonna give
more and you're gonna find it because you know what
(11:39):
that person has done for you, and you know what
he can do for you. All we gotta do is
do our part and he's going to get us there.
That's Patrick Mahomes and they had they have that. What's that?
That's that is Jonas. Now that's that's why I bring
my a game as many times as I possibly can,
because I am not gonna let the Jonas knocks with
(12:01):
the with the vine, you know, the thorn vine on
his arm. I'm not going to described some some guy
didn't compare him. He had a great cop I saw that.
I saw that that way. Hey listen, I used to look,
but he backhanded, He backhanded complimented the situation because he
was like I used to listen to LaVar and Brady,
(12:24):
but now I'm like, man, you know I want to
listen to jonas well, I think, but you know no more. Well, no,
it's always it's always a good day when somebody when
the comp you get is that somebody says you're like
an STD you just learned to live with them. Yeah,
that's always a great comp He did say that, you
know that is by the way, some of these softies
(12:47):
and sports media would block that person and then complain
to Elon Musk and he's not doing enough about some
of these Twitter trolls. Not play it up man, not you. Yeah,
let's let's play it up account you like say, we'redictu
thous things here. We had all out conversation radio deal
(13:12):
did they put up a headline? I was like, that
was not the gist of the conversation. But all right,
are you saying that happens from time to time? Is
that what you're saying that? Yeah, But as I've always
said is we're the ones that faced the repercussions and
we're the ones that are here talking and then we
get someone who clips off like maybe seven words from
(13:33):
a seven minute conversation puts us the headline. You're like,
no one is smart enough anymore. To actually click the
link and listen to the seven minute conversation. Like we're
just we're not there in society, and people are too
lazy and they've they've completely gone past the point of
wanting to actually read or wanting to actually listen to
(13:55):
something that's longer. Though, Like I'm just telling you, we're
venturing into a world of no one can read more
than like ten words, because that's all we do is
read like a tweet or a headline. But like what
that's what was how they think? And you're like no, yeah,
but you know what, then you look forward to audio
or the video if if if possible, Yeah, they cut
that conversation. Nobody could read anymore. But everybody's a music
(14:19):
producer all of a sudden, because they're doing TikTok videos.
Like I thought MTV died years ago, and now all
of a sudden, TikTok's brought back music videos and it's
a bunch of amateurs out there in front of some
like cornhole tournament doing doing some dance from the eighties.
It becomes popular again. That's the way this world works now,
all right. So we're just trying to set people straight,
and that's according to two Pros and the guy who's
(14:41):
being compared to an STD. You're on Fox Sports Training
wonder which I wonder? Which are damn Well, it's the
one that lasts a while, you're the one that burns.
I don't know that that one lasts a long time.
But the one that lasts a while, how do you
know that? I mean, listen, I've heard reports, you know,
I've I've talked to some people. We've got some friends,
(15:05):
they've they've spoken about it. Be sure to catch live
editions of Two Pros and a Cup of Joe with
Brady Quinn, LaVar Arrington and Jonas Knocks week days at
six am Eastern, three am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
and the I Heart Radio app. So Brandon being of
the Buffalo Bills, the general manager for the Buffalo Bills,
(15:25):
he was talking with the media yesterday and they were
asking him just about the situation in Cincinnati as opposed
to Buffalo. And you know, I don't know if anybody saw,
but Brandon Bean's a general manager of a team that
got their asses handed to him at home last weekend
by the Cincinnati Bengals, And so they asked him about
their situation moving forward, the salary cap, etcetera, etcetera. And
(15:45):
here was the Bills GM talking about the Cincinnati Bengals.
They right now are on the advantage of a rookie
quarterback contract, and they had some lean years without getting
too much into their building. And I don't want to
I don't want to suck bad enough to have to
get Jamaar Chase, Like he's a heck of a talent.
I'd love to have him, but you gotta you gotta
(16:07):
go through some lean years to do that. And you
know they were able to get borrow one and I
don't remember where Chase was drafted. That was pretty high like,
and those guys are on their rookie deals. We're paying
Stefon Diggs pretty hefty number. We're paying Josh Allen a
pretty hefty number. So there is the constraints of the cap.
(16:27):
So there's that there's like kind of like a backhanded compliment,
like super backhanded, right, It's true, though, how's he gonna
ask you? Man? I feel like we ain't gonna suck
like them to be able to be good in the future.
Do you take that as an excuse? Is that him
make an excuse me? It's an excuse. It's a slight,
you know, it's it sounds a little salty. You're a
(16:48):
little salty. We're paying its hefty number while they're on
rookie contracts, and it's only because we don't suck as
bad as they did. But that's your fault. You didn't.
You didn't do you take advantage? Maybe you did when
you had a chance. Maybe you needed to suck good
enough to be helped to catch marches Joe Burrow, Florence
(17:09):
and and and you Jackson and a few other maybe
the people's accounts, I mean, some people try to do that.
I mean, um, alright, moving on layout, But it was easy.
(17:29):
The Bills were never as bad as the Bengals were
during that stretch because josh Allen was what picked seven
and I think did they move up for him or
maybe that was Joshua who cares, But they were never
they were never that bad like Cincinnati was during that stretch.
But they didn't have to go out and pay trade
what they did for Stefon Diggs and then pay them
(17:51):
all that money. That was their choice. And now they've
paid josh Allen. Isn't this kind of on Buffalo that
they didn't take advantage of the opportunities they had to
get to a super Bowl while Josh I don't was
still on his rookie deal, you know, and sometimes you're
not gonna be lucky enough to or it's gonna work
out that way, right. Um, everyone wants to go back
to the overtime versus Kansas City and how those rules
(18:14):
worked out. Uh, look, they if they played some defense
too down the stretch there, I don't think they'd be ah,
they'd be complaining about this. The other thing is, I
think when you talk about, you know, how you allocate
your cap. Okay, so you've got a quarterback at a
wide receiver, you're you're spending a bunch of money on
go hit with the rest of your picks. Go go
hit with all the other draft picks. Then on defense
(18:37):
and up front, you know, on the offensive line and
other spots like That's the reality of it is. As
much as you want to make it about, oh, look
who we're paying, there's a lot of teams you're in
that position. I mean, you make that same excuse about
the Kans City Chiefs. Don't. Don't they have a quarterback
right now that's gonna win the m v p that's
still playing that's not on his rookie contract. Don't they
(18:57):
have a tight end that's not on his rookie contract.
I mean, you start kind of combing through how the
Chiefs orchestrate and handle their roster. They seem to be
able to make it work. I mean, I just I
feel like, you know, as much as there's some truth
to it, there's also an element of they didn't achieve
what they needed to achieve. They're the Super Bowl favorites,
they didn't get there this year. That's okay, but I
(19:18):
think anyone who watched them this year, and I kept
saying this phrase all year long, in order for them
to win games, Josh Allen had to play like Superman
every single week. It was like a running back by committee,
and that it was like Josh Allen probably leading the
way and Josh Allen leaving Rushy guards this past week too, probably. Yeah.
I mean, it's it's like he literally had to play
that way every single week. And Stefan Diggs is by
(19:40):
far and away their number one. He's one of the
best receivers in the NFL. You take him away, what
else do they have? Not as much? I just it's
not that complicated with that team. You know, defensively, the
vond Mill injury, that one hurt them, I think as
much as anything. Their secondary was banged up this year.
There's a lot, there's a lot of things you can
point to for the lack of success the autom line
as though, um, they didn't achieve what they needed to
(20:02):
and that's why he's got to, you know, answer that
question and have to deal with the reporters who who
are now feeling that way or asking those questions about it.
By the way, Josh Allen narrowly beat out Devin Singletary
for the rushing championship in that game against the Bengals.
He had twenty six yards devon Singletary at twenty four.
So how many car eight for Josh Allen, six for
Devin Singletary nineteen carry sixty three yards. You know, I
(20:27):
feel like that probably could have been addressed in the draft.
You know, it wasn't wasn't James could James just haven't
been using him. Yeah, So the b listen, it's all
on the Bengals and the rookie salary cap. That's how
it goes. You know the rules well, and I think
I threw the Bengals. You know you've seen Joe Burrow. Now,
what is this year three for him? Yes? Yeah, I
mean so you you now pick up a fifth year option.
(20:49):
But that's irrelevant. I would be trying to get him
to an extension right now. I'd be doing everything I
could to get him outside a big extension. Right but
that prices wanna go up about a year? Hell yeah?
Like I don't want anyone else to be able to
do a deal and have to surpass that. So I
would do that deal as soon as I could, as
soon as the season ends. With this, let me ask
(21:13):
you this, because everything that's going on with Lamar Jackson,
if you're Joe Burrow, do you wait even if Cincinnati
comes in unless they offer you something that it's just
can't say no contract? Do you wait until you see
what happens with Lamar Jackson? Well, the team may feel
like they want to wait and see, right because they
(21:33):
don't want to set the precedent of, you know, being
a team that signs their quarterback to a deal and
then Lamar is able to surpass them and signs a
better deal, or you know, again, no one's gonna touch
the Shawn Watson contract. I'd be shocked if they did.
Burrow might be the one that makes a lot of
sense for that though, Like, if you're going to like
he's the one that I feel like the way he's playing,
(21:56):
the way he's been since he's come into the league,
and everything they've got tied up in him, he'd be
a guy that I would I would look at given
that sort of deal to. But I just I don't.
I don't think if you're the Bengals, though, you want
to wait and you want to you know, risk potentially
like having to deal with that down the road. I
think you you pay and they're gonna have to restructure.
(22:17):
I shouldn't say restructure, they're gonna have to change the
way they've paid out most contracts because they don't pay
out a lot of cash and they're gonna have to
unless they hamstrung, you know, hamstring themselves for the foreseeable
future because of how much UM they have to put
into a salary. Isn't this part of the reason why
they got a naming rights deal for the stadium so
they can bring in more cash, more cash flow. They'll
(22:38):
continue to keep exercising ways of joint stuff. I mean
you've got a set of just a sports book. Just well,
that's why you know Ohio you can gamble now in
the state of Ohio stort of January one this year.
If I was them, I would be searching so hard
for a big time sponsorship to bring in even more
cash flow. And that's essentially going to go right in
Joe Burrow's pocket this offseason. It should, and then Jamaar
(22:59):
Chase the following year. Man, that's awesome. That just they're
bringing a sports book. Just build a sports book so
these guys can get paid. I mean, but but then
Brandon Bean's gonna say, well, they have an advantage because
we can't do that here in Buffalo, you know, Like
that's the problem though, It's just not fair for you
in New York yet. I don't know. I'm not sure
you can. Can you gamble in New York for sure? Yeah?
(23:20):
I mean when we do our draft kings read it
says that you can hit Hope and why or text it.
Yeah if you got a problem. Yeah, yeah, that's not
if you have a problem gambling in New York, right.
I think I think LaVar is like connecting the dots
saying if you have a problem. Obviously you're able to gamble.
So there's yeah, I think having a hard time connect
those dots. No, No, I connected those dots, all right.
(23:41):
I'm a dot connector. It's what I do. Hey, do
you have an update on the Australian Open By the way,
you're twelve hundred. Yeah, so the TV was changed to
um we needed an update on the weather locally here
in l A. Okay, you know what, step over, ah Man.
(24:07):
You know LaVar LaVar wittis and studio always has to
have the weather on in studio, just wants to know
what's going on the climate, literally the climate of the country.
You're going to put that on me, but you're not
even in the studio. I'm just saying, so, like in
your honor, like they wanted to make sure that you're
going to put that on me and I'm not even
in the studio with you. Okay, So here's you just
told on yourself. I didn't I didn't tell it anything.
(24:30):
I'm focused. Yes, I'm a dot connector and I'm dot connector.
Are right? They're not focused on the show. So here's
the of the world. This So they know Arena Sabolenka,
who was the underdog that Live that Jesus picked to
ben uh seven six the first set and a five
(24:52):
one lead in the second set. So it looks like
Live that Jesus pick is well on, well on its
way to hitting here and Lee if you could at
what point in the match, did I bet you just
to make that bet? Was a four one? Uh? He
sunk had just won the first set in the match?
That was that? Was that other question? Yet? So no, no,
because that's not She was already leedingly. Did we have
(25:17):
another visit to margart Ritaville yesterday? No? Unfortunately. Hey, by
the way, did you find out if they had one
in Arizonaly for Super Bowl? Oh? I'm looking that up. Yeah,
we gotta we gotta hit up the phoenix. H Margarita?
Is there one of phoenix? Oh? Come on that that
would be one of the desert. That doesn't even make sense.
There's one in the desert. Come on again, come on,
(25:38):
let's look this out. But like Margarita, Bill is more
about like the boat life, you know, Yeah, you have
a boata desert. Yeah, plus in Arizona you gotta go
to like but you will be thirsty in the desert though, Well,
he's always thirsty, thirsty, It's hot his hell out here.
Let's go to margart Reville. There we're going, yeah, yeah, yeah,
(26:02):
there's one in Phoenix's lead. So excited right now, man.

Right now, we turn over to the man himself, now
we mentioned this, could you picture the great Albert Brier,
senior NFL reporter at the mm QB. Get him on
Twitter at Albert Brier hanging out by a cigarette machine
(27:12):
back in Columbus, Ohio, listening to Alison Chains While people
can't figure out how to get a pack of lung
darts out of there, he just hits the side of
it and down they fall. So, Albert, is there any
true to that story about you back in the day
in Columbus? I mean, and then I want to do
a few places that had cigarette machines, so I don't
know that I was hanging out by them. I mean, Brady,
(27:32):
you probably know all the places I used to go
to because most of them are closed now. But like
I i'd hang out like two's whoa, whoa? Did he
pass out? Did you pass out? Albert? Was that a
lighted tectic test? Are you there? Albert? He said? He
(28:01):
I got a twos. Who hasn't hung out with a
couple of twos from time to time? You know that happens,
It happens. I hope Albert is okay. That might have
been the greatest calling he's ever had. I just hope
he's okay, I need to hear Albert's voice to be
(28:27):
kidding me. All right, Albert, are you there? I found?
So I found okay. Now, I was like, I was
like going through all the old Columbus bars, which I'm
sure right you have to know the names of places
I went to, right like because those are all closed now.
But you said they're all closed now though, but maybe
can you name a few. Well two zigs which became
(28:48):
four kegs, which became the O patio outer in still there,
so like the spot bar, which is where like our
quarterback got a d coming out of there when I
was a senior. So those are like be a few
of the places you I'm showing you knew some of
those places, right, Yeah, I've heard of some of those.
I didn't really frequent, um, you know, going down on
(29:10):
you know how States campus mus so I mean you
know I mean that, No, No, I was. I was
dating a girl who was in mind of Ohio, so
I would usually get to Oxford and go there. And yeah,
being uptown on all that, well that is that is
higher brow. So you are too eyebrow. Oh wow, So
now now you're throwing a bunch of mine Ohio. Folks
(29:31):
under the bus wownbelievable. Now, Albert, let me ask you
a question. What's more likely to happen you going back
to some of those bars in Columbus or Sean Payton
actually coaching somebody next year? Oh my god. Well, like
I said, I can't go back to those bars because
they don't exist. But I got I think it was
an increasing chance that Sean Payton's going back to Fox.
(29:54):
I mean, I I don't know. I I think there
was sort of this feeling that, you know, the perfect
job was going to land in his lap. And I'm
not sure any of these are ones that he wants
to chase Um. And I honestly don't know how hard
these like different places are recruiting him either. Like, I
don't know it's been a land rush for him either.
(30:15):
So it's just it sort of feels like the right
fit might not be there this time around. I don't
know if he wants to marry himself to Kyler Murray
or Russell Wilson. Um. You know, I think in Carolina,
in Houston, that's a little bit more of a build
type of situation. And I don't know if the geography
is right there for him. I think he's sort of
like to stay west. So um, I'm not sure that
(30:39):
any of these like really match up for him. I
think he's comfortable, you know, in his job at Fox.
I think he's comfortable living out in Manhattan Beach. And um,
I think he's comfortable to wait for another year. I mean,
I think the other thing that people like ignore a
little bit is he is a little older now, so
you know, this very well could be his last shot,
you know, as an NFL coach, And so um, I
(31:01):
think he was always going to be selected. I just
think the feeling probably from him was that the right
job was gonna come along. And I'm just not sure
that the right job is out there for him right now.
So I think that there's a pretty good chance he
winds it back on TV next year. Wow. I mean,
and is that more just an indication on his thoughts?
And I look at the Broncos, I feel like that's
(31:21):
probably the one a lot of people are trying to
connect him to a lot of people thought maybe he'd take.
Is that an indictment on Russell Wilson or the set
up there in Denver? I mean, what would you what
would you say about that opportunity. Yeah, I mean I
think the idea of working for the Waltons probably appeals
to him, you know. And I and look like I
think the asking price is another piece of this too,
Like I don't know if I all these places are
(31:44):
willing to go to million dollars to go and get
him now Denver. I think if Denver felt really strongly
about it, they would, you know. Um, And I think
the idea of working for the Waltons appeals to him.
It's just I think so much of this for a
coach like Sean Payton is about how you're gonna structure
the team and how you're gonna say at it up.
If he goes to Denver, will they let him hire
his own general manager? If he goes to Denver, what
(32:05):
does he do about the quarterback? I just think like
some of the things structurally about the way he's set
it up or an issue. And Yeah, I mean I
think that's some degree, Brady. It is an indictment on
on where Russell Wilson isn't his career and whether or
not like there's really juice left there, you know, because
if you're gonna pay a guy almost fifty million dollars
a year, and that guy is gonna be on your
(32:27):
salary cap at fifty million dollars a year for the
foreseeable future. Well, you know, then he's gonna have to
make up for other poles or deficiencies on your team.
Like that's just the way it works. Like that's the
environment that Aaron Rodgers lives in. It's the environment Pat
Mahomes lives in, you know. And can Russell Wilson be
that guy? Who? Can he still be that guy who
(32:47):
lifts up everything around him? I don't know that there's
a real belief out there that he is that guy anymore?
M hm wow? So who is who would be? Are
are you hearing the S candidate or or the guy
that them for Broncos or Arizona Cardinals are are seeking
because I'd seem to feel like Arizona would have been
(33:09):
super attractive for Sean Payton before they brought in a GM.
I think you bring in a GM now that makes
it difficult because now between Kyler Murray and the new GM,
if there's no no relationship, you know what what happens there? LeVar,
I agree with you, Like think the fact that Arizona
hired money awesome for it is. Their GM tells me
(33:31):
they're not locked in on Sean Payton, you know, because
and they're gonna talk to him today. And I just think,
like when you if you were really like we're going
to lock stock and barrel after Sean Payton and we're
gonna pay him whatever he wants. Aren't you leaving your
GM spot open until you talk to him? You know
what I mean? Like, aren't you gonna at least give
(33:51):
yourself the opportunity to offer him the chance to pick
his own GM. You know, That's why I think their
focus is sort of shifted elsewhere. So you know, they
had Dan Quinn in for a second interview. Um, they
like one of their internal candidates vants Joseph Um. And
then I think Brian Flores is a very strong candidate there. Um.
He came up and scouting with their new g M
(34:12):
monti As and fort Um. He interviewed really well there
five years ago in two thousand and eighteen. It's sort
of what set him up to get the Miami job.
You know, he interviewed well there. Michael Bidwell told the
rest of the owners like how impressive Flora's was he
had four interviews, got the Miami job the next year.
So I think that I'd be looking at those three
um in Arizona, you know, and then Denver. I think
(34:33):
dan Quinn is still a very strong candidate there. He's
got the relationship with George Peyton, you know. I also
think David Shaw, the former Stanford coach, is appealing to
them now, like can you put together in NFL staff?
Can he convince the owners there that he could win
in the NFL leve? I think that those are those
are the questions they're asking themselves right now. But I
think the idea of kind of going outside the box
(34:55):
and hiring David Shaw has a very very serious consideration
with the owners. They're especially considering all the ties to
Stanford that exists in that building right now. Albert brierre
joining us here on Fox Sports Radio Senior and our
reporter at the MMQB. You can get him on Twitter
at Albert Breer. Albert, we were talking about just the
situation Brandon Bean was sort of throwing a shot at
Cincinnati and they've got guys on a rookie deal, etcetera, etcetera.
(35:18):
What what does a contract look like for Joe Burrow
at this point in time. And do you think it
happens this offseason. I mean, if I'm the Bengals, I
go to Joe Burrows agent, I say, please, just don't
make it hurt too much. I mean, he can ask,
he can ask for whatever he wants to guys, you
know what I mean. Like I he's changed the base
(35:39):
of that franchise. I I I think, Um, it's gonna
take some creativity on this on both sides to get
something done. Um, that's gonna set them up to continue
to compete, like the same way that the Chiefs and
and and my homes we were. We're very creative like
and I don't think that that Burrows gonna take a
sort of structure, but I think they're gonna have to
(36:00):
be creative to work around some things. But I mean,
I think you're talking based on fifty five million dollars
probably fifty five Um, you know, and you go from there,
And it's gonna be interesting because there are a few
of these that have a chance to get done over
the next couple of months. Justin Herbert's another one, and
then obviously Lamar Jackson's out there, and so it's gonna
(36:21):
be interesting to see if there's a little bit of
a game of chicken out there too, with you know,
who goes first here, and so you know, I think
all three of those could kind of play into one another.
You know, if you're Herbert and your Borrow, maybe you
want to wait until you know the the free agent
market opens in the middle of March to see what
happens with Lamar, so you can sort of set your
expectations accordingly. Um, but make no mistake about it, like
(36:45):
it's gonna be very, very expensive to sign Joe Burrow
long term. Um. I think there's gonna be some creativity
to whatever deal they get done. And I do think
the Bengals are fully big guarantee or fully or fully
prepared to pay what it's gonna take to get Joe Burrow,
with the one caveat being I do think that because
of the escrow rules, it's gonna be a little bit
(37:08):
more difficult for them than other teams to fully guarantee
a contract, right, They've got to have all that cash
somewhere right ascro to make sure they can pay it.
That's always one of the interesting nuances that it show
sends a little bit of light on the hell how
wealthy some of these owners are. UM, I want to
ask you about the hiring process with the Colts. I
know Dan Quinn still hasts to interview Jeff Saturday is
(37:28):
going back for a second. Um. I mean this has
been a team that some some candidates have just turned
down flat out not just wanted to go interview at all.
Where are they at? What are your thoughts on where
this is headed? They've been all over the place, Brady, I, UM,
I know there are at least a few people who've
been involved in this thing who think that Jim Mercy
(37:50):
really wants to hire Jeff Saturday and so long as
Jeff Saturday can put together a confidence staff, he's gonna
do it. And you know even that, like I've heard
that there are other people in that building the thing
is a bad idea to do it, to go forward
with it based on how the year ended, and are
trying to get as many people in front of UM.
(38:12):
Jim mur saying whether you know as his daughter Carly,
it's Chris Ballet, the GM. You know, the director of
Team Development, Brian Decker is involved. UM. That one of
the reasons they're putting so many people in front of
Jim Urcy is because they're trying to convince him that
is not a good idea to go forward with Jeff
Saturday as the head coach. We'll see what happens, you know.
I think with he Morris is a really strong candidate there. Um,
(38:34):
he'll go back for a second interview on Friday. Is
O ever is another one who's done well in the process,
dan Quinn, Like you said, Um, a strong candidate there.
But I think one of the reasons why they've cast
such a wide net is, you know, again, A because
I think the other people in the room are trying
to get as many people as they can in front
of Jim Urcy, you know. And b if it does
(38:54):
wind up being Jeff Saturday, they can at least say
we looked it absolutely everything before we went and did this.
Get him on Twitter at Albert Breer Albert Breer, senior
NFL reporter at the mm QB always good stuff, Albert,
thanks so much. We'll do it again next week. I
feel like I broke. I feel like I had a
good streak of no phone troubles and then there were
(39:17):
what the hell was the thought you need like one
of those staticky things. No, it was like it was
like you were hitting a button like you it sounded
like passed out on your face. Your face was laying
on the phone. Yeah, yeah, like like somebody got up
on you or something like that. Yeah, we didn't like it.
We were scared. You know. I was come up with
(39:38):
some pretty cool theories how that happened. I guess right, Yeah,
John Wick showed up to it's always that out there.
Albert h by the way, Albert ten seconds. So we
gotta get your down your picks on the game this weekend.
I think I think the Bengals in the Niners when um,
(40:00):
I think the Bengals are gonna win the Super Bowl,
Like I just I mean, I mean, Brady knows this
for me. Like I've been a Joe Burrow believer for
a while. I actually still think there are a lot
of people who don't realize just how good the kid is.
I know, it's not even that man like you know
what it is. It's like I think he's like I
(40:21):
think I think he's Tom Brady. I think I think
it's exactly though he's more Montana than he is Brady. Yeah,
but here's what I mean, by that Brady Like, I
I think like the same mistake that people made with
Tom Brady fifteen years ago, where people would say, and
this is totally forgotten now, but people looked at him
(40:42):
and said that's a game manager. Because he wasn't physically overwhelming.
They look at him and say, like, that's the game manager,
like you just have to be good around now he
was number one overall. It's the same narrative though Brady,
isn't it Like, No, I don't know anyone who actually
say as Joe Burrows, I've never heard anyone say that.
(41:02):
From his time at l s U to his time
and sits in that, I have not heard anyone say that. Well,
I just think that they don't look at him the
same way that they look at Josh Allen or Patrick
Mahomes because he's not as freakish physically. That's sort of
what I'm getting at. And so I think that there's
that like his strengths are stuff that you can't see.
That's where that's not. You can see his accuracy, you
(41:23):
can see his time. You can see accuracy. But like
the way he the way he like gets guys open,
the way he controls everything out there. I just think
that there's so many strengths he has that you cannot
see that. I think that's where similar to Brady. I
think Brady a lot of Brady's strengths early in his
career and people wound up seeing them over the years,
But earlier he does things you can't see out that
(41:44):
when you're watching them on TV and they manifested wide
open receivers, they manifest Ina helps to Tyler Boyd. Yeah,
agree with there. It is the picture of Albert brier Uh,
straight from the man himself. But our all right, so
we appreciate it. We're up against it. But let's do
