am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio. You can find your

Joe show over at Fox Sports Radio dot com, or
(00:20):
stream us live every day on the iHeartRadio app by
searching f s R. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Yeah,
this makes me. It upsets me. I want to be
happy for you, but what my song here, it upsets
(00:41):
me a little bit. Two Pros and a Cup of Joe.
I'm just saying, well, we didn't want. We didn't want
to hear you brag about how you picked them. No. No,
Like the thing I love about music is I can
tell you exactly where I was when I first heard this,
Like it takes me back. I was at my cousins
house in Lesson in Kentucky, and I remember like they
(01:03):
had the original um Chronic and then they played this
and I remember hearing this and going wow, like I
will never I will forever like that song like I'll
never not like that song. This had to be two
thousand and ninety nine, right, because I feel like when
I was listening to this, I was in my excursion.
I had just bought an excursion and I had it
(01:24):
all decked out, and I was in Florida training at
Wild World of Sports. Yeah. I think it was what
Chronic two thousand, Chronic two thousand and one. Whatever was
the cousins you went and saw when we were at
the Breeders' Cup. Yes, yeah, and you guys used to
go to the little Chinese food restaurant growing up right
around the corner. That's right. Listen, creepy man, listen. We
(01:48):
were taking a cruise and we're getting to the track
and I kind of waited out. I pointed out, like
where we had got to eat and the and the
reason why this restaurant was so memorable was because it
was one of those places that had great service, Like
you would take a sip of your glass of water
and they can fill it up like you never could
have any Like it was always full. There was no
(02:08):
chance that restaurant was n let you have a water
glass that did not look full. So it was just
like we literally take a sip. At one point it
was like it became like a joke because of how
fast they would come and fill it back up again.
It's kind of interesting saying things that you saw when
you were younger and seeing them now. Like we stayed
out a place called the Magic Carpet End in Daytona Beach.
(02:33):
Sounds clean and yeah, you think. Let me tell you
something growing up, that was the most They had a
little putt and green out in the back, nice pool
stairs that went down to the beach. You go right
into the water. It was the highlight. We would go
to Disney World and we would go to Daytona Beach.
Those are the two places we go in the summer. Yeah,
(02:55):
it is funny, man, Like if I were to walk
into the mad to Carpet in right now, I would
be repulsed And come on, it takes you back. We
used to play mom dad like this is where you
(03:16):
this is what you had as sleep in that part
of growing up, man. I agree? I agree, I agree.
Used to go play basketball tournaments in Cincinnati, Ohio, and
we stayed there was a holiday in but it was
a special It's called the Holidome and that place because
I had an indoor pool and had like you know,
ping pong tables, pool tables. It was the greatest place
(03:37):
for a kid. A kid three basketball games and then
you come back. You swim the pool all day, you know,
order in pizza or whatever else. And the chlorine was
so pungent, like it like the whole hotel smelled like florine.
And probably some cigarettes because like back then, you most
likely could smoke indoors. But even like to this day,
(03:58):
I would be nostalgic going back. I wouldn't. I wouldn't
like look down upon it anyway. I gotta take my
kids to be like, let's go. I gotta say, there's
no way I'd stay there. Um and and for what
it's worth though I really had. I had some of
my greatest memories there. That's where I learned to swim.
My mom taught me how to swim. She tied us
how to swim by pushing us in. That's how we
(04:19):
learned to swim, like swim, swim or die like that.
She pushed us into the deep end. I got pushed.
I was like, she was like, look at the water,
and I wouldn't looked at the water, and she pushed
me in next thing, you know, I'm in the water.
She's like, you gotta swim like this, like this, I'm
under the water looking at my mom up above the
water like okay. So I started like doing whatever it
was I could. I learned how trying to survive so
(04:42):
the right. So then it went from seek or swim
to one of the most interesting thing. Maybe that's why
I had a weird infatuation with pelicans. But they would
they would lace the cars in the parking lot so
we would come out and be ready to go somewhere
to go eat, go do something or whatever. And my
dad's car, which was a benz he did have a
(05:04):
nice benz um, was pounded with pelican do right. Yeah,
So we had this game and my brother had this game,
this little deal where we would try to hold our
breath under the water every single time a crew of
pelicans would fly over top, because we were like, they're
gonna they're gonna bomb us like the cars, so we
(05:24):
try to hold our breath under the water. That was
a game we played. It was pretty fun. Yeah, I
was scared. I was scared of the deep end when
I first learned to swim, because I thought, no, I
thought the hump you stay away from. I swear to God,
I thought. I thought the drop that you could see
in the bottom was the Lockness Monster. I was paranoid.
I thought the Locknes Monster was going to come up.
And then I realized, oh, that was some guy who
(05:46):
had a sock puppet on sticking his hand out of
the water in Scotland. So it didn't really happen. And
I say, okay, I'm fine. Now. I saw my first
flying fish at that hotel too. So we went boogie
boarding in the water and and there was ata came
out of the water and you heard and went back
in right. I'm like, oh, what was that? And I
(06:07):
turned around and looked to see what it was. I
turned back around. My brother was running up the sand
back to the room. Because you're scared of the flying fish.
This is what I'm telling you. I don't know how
far we was far out into the water, and my
brother got so scared he was shook. But when I
turned to look, I turned to look back out my
brother to say something that my brother was already on
(06:27):
the sand. He hit me with a Richard Pryor. When
when there was piranha in the water, you know about
the water and ran on top of the water and
was up out of there, wonder wheel. I'm I'm paddling
for dear life. It took me at least like two
three minutes to get back to second. Hey, by the way,
can we can we check and see if the magic
carpet in is still open? Is that still? Let's leave
(06:49):
on the magic carpet in while we're effortying the magic
carpet in. Do I'll let you know that we are
brought to you by ti irac dot com and bringing
this show to you here. Don't The ti iract dot
com studios tirect dot com will help you get there
and unmatched election fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection
and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tirerac dot com the
way tire buying should be. So the magic carpet in
(07:11):
is open? Is it? It is? I'm looking at it,
the magic carpet Ocean Front Motel Now it is ranked
twenty nine out of thirty hotels at Daytona Beach on
trip Advisor. But this is play. This place looks cool.
Hold on, now, they must have got a lot of
my parents money and some other people's because they look
way better. Now, okay, they allow pets because one of
(07:34):
the photos has a couple of dollars the dolls. I'm
on to say so for the Daytona five hundred next year,
I say we do a remote from Daytona and we
stay at the Magic Carpet in Look at look at
the TV though, Oh yeah, look at the t BAT tube.
That's an old school tube right there. Good, there's no
(07:55):
wall down there. Look not the comfort even that, even
even the even the microwave looks old like. You couldn't
splurs as you own a hotel, whoever owns this thing,
you couldn't spurs to get a better Michael Good, that's great.
See that's an established They posted a fan in front
(08:19):
of the wall. Yeah, it's a double a seed. It's
an oscillating fan in front of the air conditioner. Come on,
that's how you get hey. Shots out to My parents though, man,
because they made it work. We weren't rich by any
stretch of imagination. But we went to the beach every year.
By the way, so in a bend, in a benzy
(08:40):
shots out to the bens, Big Mike shots out to
the bins. It is two pros and a cup of
Joe here on Fox Sports Radio. By the way, speaking
of money, speaking of splurging the little as backseat, Now
Gino Smith might be splurging. Deal from the Seattle Seahawks
for one hundred five million dollars. There's fifty two million
(09:01):
guaranteed in the first year. This is a guy who's
been bouncing around the NFL, being a backup quarterback, spot
duty here and there, around the lone home after things
fell apart in New York when it came to the Jets.
And by the way, go back and look at Geno
Smith's numbers with the Jets. They dwarf Zach Wilsons. Yet
I don't remember anybody defending or ball washing Gino Smith
like they were Zach Wilson. But nonetheless, he lands in Seattle.
(09:25):
Not an ideal situation. Russell Wilson's gone. He's the face
of the franchise for years and years. Gino takes it over,
has a phenomenal year when's comeback Player of the Year
and gets paid. Good for Gino Smith prior to West Virginia.
I'm happy for him, man. You know, he got a
couple of years to start with the Jets. It was
(09:45):
an unsettling, you know, front office coaching staff between John
Zac and Rex Ryan, and you know he had to wait.
He was settled with a backup for six years, and
then he just absolutely explodes. Has a great season this
last year for Seattle. He makes more this season than
he made in actually three times more than he made
(10:08):
his entire career up to this point. Damn. Think about
that like that is a true success story of patience
and perseverance, and so good for him, you know, not
only the comeback player of the year, but he's coming
back for a lot more money. And I think when
you look at where what he's making in comparison to
the car deal versus what Gino is going to sign
for and what the franchise tag number is, and maybe
(10:30):
what Daniel Jones would potentially get or anyone else for
that matter, it sounds like a fair number. I think
the hard thing for a negotiation like with Lamar Jackson
is you know not that he not that this really
factors into him at all, but he's definitely gonna be
wanting a lot more money than what Gino Smith's getting
(10:51):
for his one year this past year, compared to what
Lamar has done his entire career. So I'm sure there's
some frustration that continues to build for someone like Lamar
or he was still looking for that longer term extension
that's going to pay him a significant amount of money.
Lamar Jackson is I think he's an outlier and that
(11:13):
will continue to work itself out as it applies to
Geno and where he's at. You know, no looking back
is how I look at it. You're talking about someone
who has persevered, someone who has endured and at times,
I guess you could say survived. Um being being a
(11:36):
top draft pick? What what was the second round draft pick? Second?
Such such high accolades and such high trajectory coming out
of West Virginia did some pretty amazing things. And I'll
tell you what for for it to kind of go
the way that it did in New York. You know,
(11:58):
you have to you have to look at it. You
have to evaluate, you have to reevaluate, you have to assess,
you have to reassess. There's so many different emotions that
come into play when you've had success all the way
up to a certain point and then it's it's like
it's it's fleeting, it's fleeting, it's it's it's gone, and
(12:19):
a lot of us experience that, but not a lot
of us have the opportunity that where if it goes
as bad as it did, you get an opportunity to
kind of have a redeem redeeming moment, and and Gino
Smith has had that. So I mean, I'm I'm happy
for him on on just a personal level his representation,
(12:42):
Um is one of my best friends. UM, So I've
known the story that that you know has kind of
unfolded for him and see him get rewarded in this
way and to be kind of looked at in a
way where there's legitimacy to what he brings to the
table was pretty cool. Yeah, it is. It is a
great story, and now we moved forward. Does this take
(13:09):
Seattle out of the conversation for drafting a quarterback of
the future at number five overall? Yes, Okay, you don't
think they go if Anthony Richardson sitting there, I think
they trade out of it. They try to find a
potential partner, and they might trade out of it to
get more picks. That's really been John Schneider's way of
(13:30):
doing things. If you look at his track record, at
times he's almost allergic to first round picks. I mean,
I remember when I was there with him and we
were sitting there watching tape of of just some different cutups,
and we were talking about the Drafters. It was coming
up in April, and we joked like, oh, another first
round pick. We're like, well, Percy Harvin's our first round pick,
(13:52):
because that's what they used the trade to get him
out of Minnesota. But that was just how they kind
of operated. Is John, you know, John Schneider was able
to find value in other spots in the draft, so
I would not be shocked if they didn't move out
of that spot. The details of the contract haven't necessarily
come out, but it sounds like in his first year
to put in what fifty two million for one year
(14:15):
potentially of of you know, being a guy who's kind
of holding holding it down by a rookie preparis for
that next year. I don't know. That's that seems like
it would be a lot of money to invest in
the geno Smith and then turn on on draft. I
got to replace him in a year from now. It's
two pros and a cup of Joe here. Fox Sports Radio,
LaVar Arrington, Brady Quinn, Jonas Knox with you here you
(14:36):
can listen to. This show is always on the iHeartRadio app.
So there is an NFL All pro who may be
on the move, We'll tell you who that is. That's next.
Be sure to catch live editions of Two Pros and
a Cup of Joe with Brady Quinn, LaVar Errington, and
Jonas Knox weekdays at six am Eastern, three am Pacific
(14:57):
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeart Radio Wow teen
Oh yeah dad, dad, dadda, oh yeah, oh and then
(15:28):
don't know the words Two Pros and a Come to Joe,
Fox Sports Radio, LaVar Arrington, Brady Quinn, Jonas Knoxydal from
the Tirack dot Com studios coming up in a little
over twenty minutes from now. That looked like all the
people at the Jimmy Buffer Continent. No, that was moving
too fast. Yeah, somebody might have. Somebody might have kind
(15:50):
of you know, might needed an inhaler's oxygen. Yeah, that's true.
A little over twenty minutes from now, we are going
to discuss I moved that was made in the NFL.
Kind of an obvious move, but what does it mean
for the future when it comes to one team in
the National Football League who was looking around for a quarterback.
We'll get into that for you get a little over
(16:10):
twenty minutes from now here on FSR. Are you still
over paying for a razor? In this economy? Gross? With
Dollar Shave Club can get a top shelf shave at
a regular shelf price. Dollar Shave Club is available to
store near you and the men's razor aisle. That's it.
That's the ad. So there's this report out, this rumor,
I guess, and it's involving Mike Silver again, Mike Silver,
(16:33):
who also had some rumblings about the Packers not being
his patient when it came to Aaron Rodgers. But Mike
Silver has a report out that says that Derrick Henry
could be on the trade block. How about that? Yeah,
so Derrick Henry could be had. And there's been a
couple of teams that have been rumored to be potential suitors,
one of them being the Buffalo Bills, which to me
(16:54):
would be awesome if Josh Allen could have somebody to
rely on in the backfield so he didn't take a
beating like he normally does. But that is the speculation
that Derrick Henry could be gone. And if Derrick Henry's gone,
what the hell are the Tennessee Titans rebuilding? Okay, I
think they've already started that though. Yeah, they let go
a bud Dupree as well yesterday, So it gives you
(17:16):
a little bit of an indication. Right, they let go
of Taylor lawan um who's been a long time you know,
tackle for them, has played well, been a leader on
that team. So you get the sense that you feel
like they're rebuilding, which lends the question, you know, what
do they do in the draft? What do they do
at quarterback? I mean, they've got Ryan Tannehill's gonna roll with.
(17:41):
That's what we need people to understand is that they
got him under contract, whatever that meant. I'll say this,
if they get rid of Derrick Henry, they're unwatchable. What's
what's the point what are you tuning in for? Well,
I don't know that they have any chance of winning
if if this word to take place, if you trade him,
what are you getting in return? Well, the hard thing
(18:03):
is he's going to his final year of his deal.
He's got a couple of avoidable years attached to his deal.
But this would be it. I mean they technically could
move on from him, it would be a ten million
dollar cap hit, and so maybe you do a post
tune one designation. But both him and Ryan Tannehill are
essentially moving into years where it's the final year of
their deal, even though they got some years attached to
(18:25):
the back end. So you could make the case that
they could if they trade away Derrick Henry. You'd expect
that they're just completely looking to rebuild. And sometimes that's
what happens too when you have a new general manager
come in who they're not his. Guys that he drafted
are signed and he's got no ties to him, and
so he can feel more apt to move on, move
(18:46):
on and start that rebuilding process now instead of waiting
what so, are you guys on board with the Bills
or who else would make sense for Derrick Henry that
you look at, why do the Bills make sense? Well,
I mean he needs some running back help, job Allen.
He needs some help in the backfield so he's not
having to carry the load the whole time. I don't
I don't look at the issues with the Bills running
(19:07):
the football and put it solely on their backfield. I
think they've had capable backs, I don't know that they
have much of a desire to want to run the football.
And I think their offensive line would be the area
that i'd look at first to help improve or upgrade
that unit, as opposed to saying that the running backs can't.
That's that's at least how I'd look at it. I mean,
it's like saying the Kansas City Chiefs, what I have
(19:28):
Dereck Henry to take pressure off Patch Mahomes. I mean,
those teams are looking to throw the football more, not
run it. I mean, maybe it helps to be able
to give Derek Henry, you know, he's gonna have less
of a load on his plate. But you know, I'm
not sure it makes sense for a team like that. Now,
if you said, hey, if the Green Bay Packers would
have trade away Aaron Rodgers, you know, maybe you'd look
(19:51):
at a team like that, because you know, Lafloor wants
to run the football, even though they've got Aaron Jones
and some other backs. Like that's a team that clearly,
I think to take pressure off of Jordan Love, they'd
like to have more balanced, they'd like to run the
football more. Maybe there's some other teams out there that
fall into that category. They want to run the ball,
but I don't know that. I see Buffalo is necessarily
(20:13):
a fit. I'm gonna give you a team. Yeah, well,
let me get because I do have something here for you.
Go ahead, Oh, these are the odds. Here we go.
I got odds, Della bar what team and I'll tell
you where they line up on this list of potential
Derrick Henry sooners. I don't know about what the list
is thinking, but I tell you the most interesting, most practical,
(20:35):
and most feasible thought would be for him to go
to Denver. I like that. I like that fit. Yeah,
because if you think about it, the one thing that
that Russell Wilson head in in Seattle was a stout
run game. And whether he wants to admit it or not,
And you saw how things kind of panned out with
(20:58):
the Backs and they even ended up releasing Melvin Gordon
from the team during the course of the season. I
don't think that he could handle the pressure of of
just carrying the load without having some balance out of
the running attack. So if you added Derek Henry to
(21:18):
to Denver, I think it makes that it gives a
dimension to that offense. That man, it opens up your
passing lanes. But how's Russ supposed to cook if he's
got to share? Well, Russ wasn't the kitchen. He was
cooking cup of noodles and noodles and Chef boyard um
(21:39):
out of the cane. He was serving glory greens. Everybody
loved the greens. They knew they were glory greens. And
he didn't really make them greens. Everything was glory greens. Yeah,
you gotta get something you like greens. You go into
the oh I bet you you do out of the
can glory glory greens. Yeah, anyway, right out of the wall.
(22:01):
Uh well, I don't know. I'll never put them on
the stop. Okay, I'll leave it a lot of added
I didn't, all right, put it back in the hole.
It's an inside joke. Obviously. What about the Dolphins, Jonas,
would the Dolphins be a good team? That they would?
I mean, you've you've got Mike McDaniel. You know he
likes to run the football. They've got a number of
guys who are free agents too. I want to look
(22:22):
at I'm blocking the list, is all right, So I'm
gonna ask you guys, we're gonna play funnily. Do we
have any game show music? And we want to be
something that's you know, not implying that Brady is any
sort of nationality or anything like that or heritage comes from. Again,
I don't know why we do this. I'm sorry, Brady
as a fine Italian American. The fact that you have
to listen to this and then trying, you know, pour
(22:44):
irish all over what your background when we're trying to
do a sports stock radio show. It's just disgusting. But
here we go. These are according to well are we
able to guess? It's that whole point? Uh? Hold on,
I just said, Miami. This is according to odds checker.
Where's the ad on the list with Miami? Okay, the
(23:07):
very reputable odds checker who has got a list of teams.
If Derrick Henry is traded, where he'll end up? So
who wants to go first? I already did watch, said Miami.
I know, but it sounds better on the podcast if
we tighten it up a little bit, all right, to
who wants to go first? Brady's We don't change our podcast,
We just roll the show right into it. I look
the podcast all the time. We never change anything. The
(23:29):
Miami Dolphins said, Miami our second on the list at
plus four hundred. Yeah, that's a hell of a pick. Yeah,
that's what he just didn't want. He just didn't want
to give me any credit. The Denver Broncos are further
down the list, and by further down the list, like
sixth at plus eight hundred. All right, what about the
(23:53):
New York Giants if they're going to move on from
se Quon? You know day Ball wants to run the football,
wouldn't he make some sense? There? They are third at
plus five hundred. What about you? Do you think they
would really move on from sa Quon and go the
direction to Derrick Henry. S Quan probably wants more. That's
(24:13):
the thing is, you can get Derek Henry in a
contract for at least another year and then figure out
if you can work something out in the mean time.
You know what about the Rams, They're nowhere to be found.
In fact, actually I just found there right behind the
right stakers for the next team to get though. What
about the Chargers? The Charges would be a good fit.
(24:33):
L never want to run the football. Are sitting with
the Denver Broncos at plus eight hundreds, so they are
further down the list as well too, but still in contention.
Who you can throw in New England in there? New
England's always looking for running backs. The Patriots are right
below the Broncos and the Chargers. What about the Bears?
The Bears are nowhere to be found. They're not even
sure whether or not they're actually going to be in
(24:54):
the NFL next year. At the stad let me give you,
let me give you like, and I know they got
I know they got a guy. I have a fun one.
I know they got a guy. Okay, but what about
the forty nine ers? The San Francisco twenty nine ers
on the list? Stop? Yeah, what about the Eagles? The
Eagles would be fun. Can you imagine Derrick Henry going
in that office? So on the list, but further down
(25:16):
they're plus twelve hundred, so they're behind. Is this where
you want us to come background of the Bills? Because
you feel like the Bills, based on the odds, are
number one? Is that the next team you want to
throw out? I mean, you guys are playing. You've already
said it though. If you already said it's the betting favorite,
I refuse to say the Patriots. Yeah, just did the
Patriots what number? They're further down the list. They're behind
the Broncos, the Buffalo. It's no, Buffalo's one. He already
(25:39):
said that. I we're just guessing. No, I just I
just saw a team that would make some sense out
I didn't have. Baltimore has to be on this list too, somewhere, Yeah,
Baltimore is. Actually, they're behind the Dolphins and the Giants
are sitting at four at the plus six hundred. I
mean there is a team that is number one for sure.
You've already said it though, so we don't need to
tell you said you literally said the Bills were numb
(26:00):
one know, it's the Bills that are number one. What
do you know? Odds up the whole time, so you
can't see what looking Okay you already said, ye not
looking okay, definitely not looking all right. So, yes, that
is the Bills, Dolphins, Giants, Ravens, and also the Saints
are sitting at plus seven hundred. And the Saints just
(26:21):
got Derek Carr. You had some Derek Henry. Yeah, but
you okay, how about I've got two other teams, okay,
the Lions and then Bengals because of the thing you
said earlier about mixing a cap casualty, But what about
if they'd be interesting mix. Yeah, they're both Lions. Love
they're they're running back. Though Williams is a free agent.
(26:42):
It's DeAndre Swift coming back. He still things, still in
a contract. But I believe it's Williams who is a
free agent. Um. Yes, the Lions and Bengals are also
on the list. Yeah, so there's gonna be teams out
there if they decided fit. For the Bengals, how much
you think he's got left in the town enough if
they don't run him like they did in Tennessee. He
(27:03):
only missed one game last year. I think he has
so good. Yeah, he does have a lot of years.
You wear it terror does I mean you can't. You
can't run him thirty times a game. I'll put it
this way. Three of the last four years he's led
the league in rushes. Can't do that, not every year,
(27:26):
four point eight yards to carry. Every time you get
him the ball, you pick it up half a first down.
I mean, guys like him are like a Darvin Ham
though like once once something goes wrong, they're like their
game is never the same, Like you're not going to
see that explosiveness. Can I ask this though, like I
feel like for the past, you could say four years
(27:49):
because I think it was it two years ago he
missed like half the season. YEA begged up. Yeah, but
you could make the case he's been the best running
back in the league for the past four years. Yes,
you can a case that he's been one of the
most top at least top three on one hand, most
dominant players and the layers. Yeah, and I would say
right now he should be considered a Hall of Famer.
(28:10):
And also in comparison to a guy like Zeke Ellid
who got his contract and fell off a cliff, Derrick
Henry hasn't really he was banged up that year, but
he came back and played sixteen games. Last year he
had like almost three hundred and fifty attempts like he was.
So I look at him and I go, that's a
guy who they've gotten their money's worth for sure when
it comes to Tennessee. But what I'm saying is Hall
of Famer because running backs it's always hard. They look
(28:33):
at a lot of guys as a career accomplishments. He's
now been going on since probably twenty nineteen. I think
you could make the case maybe twenty eighteen he started
to round into it. Yeah, he's been like the best
back in the league. Yeah, he wasn't even a starter
till year three. Yeah, so yeah, I mean I think
he's got to get to the ten thousand yard mark.
(28:53):
They say that's what the threshold as far as a
lot of Hall of Famers go. If he gets to
that point, yeah, I think he's one hundred percent of
Hall of Fame be able to do that in twenty
twenty three. Yeah, and he's about seventeen seventeen. Yeah, you
can do it. This is a good, good back many
you know. I think if they if they use them,
if he goes to the right situation, then they use
them the right way. He could be a menace. By
(29:17):
the way, that picture where he's standing next to Mark Ingram,
he looked like his kid. Brother kid looked like his kids.
They're both the same, they both play the same position. Yeah,
those those at the same time. Yeahry is so big,
big man that it is two pros and a cup
(29:39):

(31:07):
usuals on a Wednesday. But right now it is time
for the progressive play of the day. JP across mid
Court gives us the Slawson with three seconds, with two
and for the first time since nineteen eighty Fermint Purple
Rains and the Southern Conference. The Furman Paladins are going
(31:30):
to the nc Double A Tournament eighty eight seventy nine
the final fermin over Chattanooga. You bet your ass it's
not Andy Ferman, it's not Todd Ferman. That's Furman Radio
Network on the call. They are going to the NCAA
Tournament for first since nineteen eighty. Did you say Peter, No,
who would you say? I said not Andy, not Todd.
(31:53):
Oh yeah, who's Peter? I don't know Peter Furman. No,
they look come up. I don't believe so of Andy Furman.
I don't know. Yeah, I thought it was Peter Firm. No,
you're I know. I think I understand what you were
getting at. But no, it is not that. It's definitely
mister North not a part of this. By the way,
(32:15):
it is pretty progressive. Play the day progressive making things
even easier. They will help you bundle your home and
car insurance together so you can save on both. Learn
more Progressive dot com or one eight hundred Progressive. So
it's tag day in the NFL. All right, got a deadline.
Players are going to get tagged. One of those guys
that did get tagged is Josh Jacobs. He's gotten the
franchise tag that according to various reports, so he's going
(32:37):
to get a one year deal. Basically that's a little
over ten million dollars for the twenty twenty three season,
So no long term contract for Josh Jacobs. Josh Jacobs
coming off the best season of his career, so we
talked about Derrick Henry and now we transition over to
another Alabama running back. But Josh Jacobs, after a great
year last year, is going to be back to the
(32:59):
Raiders that franchise to hag Mark. Yeah, no, it's not Mark,
you said Mark. No, no, Mark? Uh yeah, on the
first name. You've got other issues, Yeah, got other issues.
But this is good for the Raiders. Um. You know,
Josh Jacobs has been as as consistent of a back,
(33:21):
you know, and he's one of the better backs in
the league. So keep him around another year, whether it's
to try to lure Aaron Rodgers or you know, keep
some talent there, or even just provide some stability if
you have to go at the rookie quarterback, it should
be huge for whoever ends ends up taking up that spot.
So it makes some sense. Buys the more time to
try to negotiate a longer term deal, which I would
(33:44):
assume they would, but we'll see, you know, maybe they
want to see him be able to replicate what he
did this past season. I just think that it's simple.
Running backs are not the same, They're not valued the same,
they're not looked at the same, and to have a
quality back like Jacobs. You definitely want to see if
(34:05):
he can stay healthy for another season before you pay them.
And with that being said, I don't know that you
ever really want to pay. I don't know that whatever
the market is, that's establishing for running backs. I think
I hate to say it, but I'm gonna say it.
I think Ezekiel Elliott killed it for everyone moving forward.
(34:27):
I think he destroyed the high stakes, high pay running
back contract. I think that's the last one we'll see,
at least in this era, at least in this season
of time, as to how running backs are valued there.
You're not going You're not going to see Derrick Henry
and my opinion, get a crazy contract situation. You're not
(34:49):
going to see se Quon get it. You're not going
to see Jacobs, get it. I don't I don't think
you're going to see it. Wouldn't you? You could probably
go back to even Todd Gurley though before that, Rudy
start early that good go. No, I was gonna say,
I don't know that it's Zeke. I mean we're seeing
we've seen other other running backs to be able to
sign contracts that are up in that ballpark. Um, I
(35:11):
just think you're not going to see someone signamous early
as Zeke did. I mean, that's the reality. And I
think the cautionary tale is you know, between Zeke and
Todd Gurley, guys who signed those deals, you know they
suffered injuries. And bottom line is, I think everyone should
be concerned about investing a bunch of money into a
running back where you know, clearly, you know, one one
bad break here, there, one injury here there could could
(35:33):
can change the entire trajectory of their career. And so
that's what the hesitance is. That That and the fact
that if you look at the draft this year, there's
probably eight or nine guys that are gonna be rotating
in and maybe half that group that will actually be starting,
you know as rookies that you can get for much
cheaper year and year out in the draft. So I
think that's the other thing too. It's just the continual,
(35:54):
you know, turnover with labor and new guys come in
the league every year. No one running back was the
star of the league. Damn that was your franchise. Now
what he did, just tell Hay learn how to catch passes.
They could be a spot. I was in the league
with Jerome Bettis, Emmett Smith, Jerome Bettis from Notre Dame.
(36:15):
Fred Fred Taylor all right, yeah, Deuce Deuce McAllister uh Ladanian, Tomlinson, Ladanian,
Tomlinson brought you want to talk about backs? Thomas Jones
Jamal Lewis like, bro it was a gatlet of dealing
(36:41):
with running backs that I say Duke Staley all time.
You know, he might not be considered I've been an
elite guy, but he was definitely the toughest to deal with.
He was definitely I went against Tiki Barber, Brandon Well,
Brandon Jacobs was the end. But I mean you're talking
about an air are a where running backs were that was.
(37:03):
Remember when Brendon Jacobs walked out one time and I
was like, who is that a DN And I was like, no,
that's Brendon Jacobs. Still like we have to tackle him.
I was like, good luck, man, that's stinks. That's that's
what you get paid to do. That stinks. He was
six yeah, and was fast and was fast and and
(37:25):
and I mean he was something else. But so we're
all of them. I mean, I'll tell you Sean Alexander
and in Seattle with Matt and they had fullbacks back then,
so kids to Sean Alexander have now. I think he's
about to drop thirteen number thirty. It's either twelve or thirteen.
(37:46):
When I interviewed him, I told him, I said, you
and your wife, y'all, y'all need help. Man. Y'all, y'all
need y'all need to seek some some guidance, some counseling.
I love you. We we litter mates. Like I think
you had a Hall of fame career. Um, but you're
you you too active. Doc. That's that's way too active.
That's way too I said, how do y'all get around? Said?
They got two sprinters and they ain't luxury. They could
(38:10):
guarantee you that because you need the seats. They got
two sprinter vans, two sprinter vans to all go out
at the same time. It's like two touring bands together.
I mean, you got to assume the oldest are old
enough to be the parents to the babies. Like they
they might have a kid that that's an uncle or
a nephew that's that's a toddler. Sides out the side, Alexander.
(38:34):
They was putting it down as all I'm saying, those
running backstore in that era was putting it down, and
Sean Alexander was putting it down in a much different way.
Priest homes too, Keep keeping mind priests homes guys like that. Yep,
