Speaker 4 (01:18):
Man.
Speaker 3 (01:20):
Nil deals they help fuel supercharged cars involved in Georgia
football speeding incidents. Now this is out of Athens. I
can't see what aje. I don't know what publication this
is from. I would love to give you your credit,
but I'm not sure what you guys got on here?
(01:42):
Do you dog nation? There we go, shouts out the
dog Nation. So the point of this headline that I'm
reading to you, Jeff, is basically, Kirby Smart is feeling
the effects of top end high in football players getting deals,
(02:03):
these n I L deals, and their cars are better.
So young men that wouldn't have.
Speaker 4 (02:10):
A oh okay.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
They're getting nicer cars.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
Right, So we're blaming the cars now, okay, okay, okay,
all right, I like this.
Speaker 3 (02:19):
All right, So we're blaming everything.
Speaker 4 (02:21):
But you know your job as a coach making sure
your players don't get in trouble, right, everyone, it's a
car's fault. Car's fault. Okay, cool, cool coach. Yeah that's
really the way it is.
Speaker 3 (02:34):
So what's happening.
Speaker 4 (02:35):
Is Georgia the only school that has kids driving nice cars.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
I was in Kentucky and I saw what the basketball
teams parking lot look like. Is not okay?
Speaker 4 (02:44):
So but the Georgia is the one that has the
most issues publicly we know of, like speeding and players.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
We had a vehicular homicide. Well that's not a homicide,
just just a fatality.
Speaker 4 (02:56):
It's a terrible accident. Correct, terrible players, drag racing. But
just just Georgia has the fast car problem. The only
team that has fast cars.
Speaker 3 (03:06):
No, no, I mean, you know, I don't I would
assume not, but you know, you get a jeep track
howk or you know, I get the.
Speaker 4 (03:15):
Point of what a fast car is. But my point is,
like for coach, I'm saying, like, you're the only I
feel sorry for you because you're the only team that
has players with fast cars. I understand why that would
be a problem. You know, not you don't want to
blame like yourself or your program, but we're to blame
the cars. Okay, cool, Yeah, I just want to.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
Have that right, right, that's the assumption of it. I mean,
the guys are.
Speaker 4 (03:37):
At least I'm good. Yeah, I'm said, Okay.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
These guys are getting, you know, into situations where they're
they're getting speeding tickets and the speeds that they're at
are very very high. So I guess it has now
raised a question for Kirby Smart is like what's what's next?
You know, and and like to touch and all what
(04:01):
you're you're basically saying, what what is next? So while
while we're saying that coaches can do more, what is
it that he can do? Like? How does he you know,
how does he handle this? If if Jeff Schwartz is
Kirby Smart in this situation, how does Jeff handle this?
Speaker 4 (04:17):
First of all, I remove all the fast cars. It's like, guys,
no more fast cars, no more. Right, So we go
back to like, what's what's a Not like I drive
a truck, It's not a fast car. Everyone everyone gets
a pickup truck. So it's is we talk about institutional control, right,
there's a reason why. And of course, look, this happens
in many cities. You know, coaches and programs are able
(04:40):
to cover things up and not get out. But it's
out obviously in in the Athens right now, there seems
to be an issue in the program with players going
too fast and their nice cars. I don't know, I
follow organ pretty well. It's not a problem to organ
right now? Is it is a problem Penn State. There
are a bunch of players of it speeding at Penn State.
(05:00):
Sounds like it's a it's a program issue right to me,
Like you're not making sure you guys understand what they
should be doing off the field and how it's unsafe.
And you had a fatality already, right, You've had someone
who has died. To excuse me, two people as staff
are obviously a player who have passed away recently. It's
not like it was fifteen years recently. Because they were
(05:23):
going too fast in their in their cars. That to
me sounds like a problem with the program, right. You're
not getting your message across to your players that they
should be safer on the roads. Because again, is this
a problem in Tuscaloosa. It could be maybe they're covering
up better down there. It's like, it's sounds like it's
(05:44):
a program issue, right, And I don't know what he
has to say that. I'm sure he's saying things to
the players right well.
Speaker 5 (05:51):
He in an interview in March, had said that he
has enlisted the help of officers from the Athens Clark
County Police as well as the University of Georgia Police
and the Georgia State Patrol, and educating his players on
a deeper level about the dangers of racing and driving.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
See, I think that's more so to try to get
sympathies from the authorities versus trying to educate the players.
I think with the players that's going to go in
one air and out the other. But as it applies
to acclimating the police officers to the players, it might
give gain them a little bit more leniency if they
get caught up out there on the highways and the
(06:26):
byways that they're traveling on. That's that's what I would
say to that statement. I'm more to what you're saying, Jeff,
as to trying to figure out what's the solution to
how you correct that for your team.
Speaker 4 (06:39):
Okay, So I'm reading the article right now. So he
had a player on May eighth who was going a
mistermeanor charge for driving an influence of drugs, driving too fast.
Another player was arrested on May twenty third of mistermeanor
charges of rockets driving and speeding. And then the outside
linebacker was pulled over July fifth, inside up for driving
(06:59):
eighty miles in a fifty five, which can be I
know in North Carolina could be a felony. So he
says here that Smart was later asked about publicly disciplining players,
something that he has refrained from doing during his time
in Athens. Smart explaining that with those in the program
have talked about the subject in depth and ultimately the
motivation of not publicizing discipline is about looking at for
(07:20):
the players that right there, right If you publicly discipline players,
this is gonna stop. It's gonna stop.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
All right. You know, I'm gonna play Devil's advocate here,
go ahead.
Speaker 4 (07:33):
But but if you if you punish players to where
they think to themselves, man I I I don't want
to speed, I don't want to take it. I'm gonna
be I'm gonna be out six games. I know that
seems harsh. Whatever punishment it is, then that's how these
things stop happening. But if you don't ever do anything
about them, then players think they can get away with
(07:53):
going eighty and a fifty five.
Speaker 3 (07:55):
The only problem with that is is that there's a
transfer portal now and these as leads are that sensitive,
and they are and they are that and Kirby Smart
and doing that will now not only make make players
want to go to other schools and they'll enter the
transfer portal because you're not you're not getting these cars
(08:17):
unless you're a top guy. Let's be clear on that.
So you're talking about guys that are getting these these
whips that they're doing is I mean one of the
top draft picks that went to Philly was a part
of that that car accident that took place where the
two young lady to Jalen Carter, I just to me,
I think that this is a hard This is a
(08:39):
hard issue. It's harder than just just what you just
said because you have to deal with a new type
of environment. Back in the day, you can tell a
guy you can't use social media. That was the big conversation,
you're not allowed to use social media, that, this, that,
and the other. But this transfer portal has made it
(09:00):
so where one program doesn't another will, oh that you're
leaving because you feel like you're being uh you know,
kind of singled out or this, that and the other.
You were embarrassed that they said you were getting in
trouble driving a car too fast, Like just come here,
you know you could drive fast here like to your
point of of getting in trouble. I mean, I don't
(09:23):
I've never been to Athens, so I don't I don't know.
I just I just know Athens is very close to
to I think it's pretty close to the city, right,
how far away from the city, like an hour away?
I think it is from Atlanta. I would have I
would assume, I would assume that these driving style that
(09:43):
that is connected to them is their highway driving, and
and and so, like you you take a place you
brought up state college, we don't highway drive. Like everything
that we're doing is pretty much close. Now, guys are
from local areas, right, We're from Pittsburgh, We're from Harrisburg,
We're from Philadelphia, we're from New Jersey. And all of
(10:05):
those are like hour two hour, two hour drives. And
so I could honestly say, when you're coming back, when
I was in school coming back and you had to
make certain times and this, that and the other, did
you speed on the highway to get back to school
on time? Or if you were trying to make it
home in a decent hour so you'd have more time
(10:27):
at home, did you speed? Hell? Yeah, you spaed You
went faster than the speed limit at times during the
course of your drives. But I don't think it's it's
very frequent. You're not driving back to Pittsburgh or to
Harrisburg or to Philly out of state college very frequently.
So the streets that you're on, you're not pushing one
(10:50):
hundred miles an hour, You're not pushing eighty miles an
hour and fifty five mile an hour zones because it's
just not kind of the city's not really set up
that way, you know what I mean, It could be
it could be a problem based off of guys. And
this is just me just just thinking out loud. This
could be a problem where you got guys that are
(11:10):
trying to be on time for things, or I mean,
in some cases, you know, I don't know. I mean,
if you're drunk, you're intoxicated, those are those are issues
that to me, that is more of how how you
go after this, Like if you're if you're getting guys
that are getting pulled over because they're intoxicated, you got
to be able to discipline those kids, and you got
(11:32):
to be able to tell them you can't jump into
the portal and think that going to somewhere else they're
going to be okay with you drinking and driving, because
it's not going to happen. But if it's just purely
you can't drive a nice car because you're going too
fast and you're not being responsible enough, I don't think
it's going to work. I don't think that works. Well.
Speaker 4 (11:52):
Then you have to decide, right whether you are trading
you know, maybe some wins and losses for discipline within
your program, right, And that's that's the trade.
Speaker 3 (12:02):
Off, r because you're right, trade off.
Speaker 4 (12:03):
You're right. If you publicly disciplate players, they're going to bounce.
Anything about that, You're exactly right. That's the environment we're in.
They're gone.
Speaker 3 (12:12):
So the question is what do you want doing it right?
Speaker 4 (12:15):
Do you want players to follow the law more often?
And you know you're right about the big city the
kind of big city driving versus not right, But there's
in Eugene, organ you're not going one hundred miles an
hour anywhere, right, Yeah? In in outside Atlanta, there's highways everywhere,
you can do that, right.
Speaker 3 (12:33):
I've never been to Athens, so I don't want to
speak out of it, and I.
Speaker 4 (12:36):
Looked it up, but it's it's it's outside of it's
a it's a outside Atlanta. There's there's big there's you know,
big highways.
Speaker 3 (12:42):
And I would assume if they're getting it in and
they're drunk driving drunk and stuff, I would assume they
might be driving back from Atlanta.
Speaker 4 (12:50):
I would assume that I maybe it might be a
little further, it might be an hour and a half,
but it's it's within Atlanta's right next to it.
Speaker 3 (12:56):
But nonetheless, I would assume that they're driving.
Speaker 4 (12:59):
Nonetheless, Yeah, you gotta choose, right, are we going to
have a program that disciplines players for going eighty eight?
And here's the thing too, though, I just you know,
after you had you had two people pass away from
driving too fast and drinking a little bit, wouldn't you
slow to discipline players like, wouldn't you like wouldn't they.
Speaker 3 (13:21):
Want to do better as a player?
Speaker 4 (13:22):
Right? But even then, like, even if you mess up,
wouldn't you want like as as a program to be like, guys,
we've had people, I'm gonna punish you because we can't
have this again, right and so but you're right, if
he does it that they're leaving in the portal. So
you have to choose right between whether or not it's
more important to have player have the best team possible,
or whether it's more important to to have players that
(13:47):
follow follow that you hope you have both, right, you
hope you have both where you have and look, I
would make this point that's puty for me to a
hundred players on Georgia's team. We're talking about three or
four or five guys the most part are doing their
job right. I won't make the very I think that's
a topic that we don't talk about enough when we
talk about players getting in trouble in the NFL or
(14:08):
in college football. Of our ninety eight percent of players
do not get in trouble. Player don't get in trouble.
It's a couple of guys. But those couple guys can
obviously dragged down your program. And so that's why we
talk about it so much.
Speaker 3 (14:24):
I mean, we're looking at what's taking place with Northwestern.
We made the very point. If you're winning its conversations,
if you're losing, you're getting fired. I would assume if
Kirby Smart wasn't winning and we're listening to these things,
he's on his way out the door. But he's winning,
and they're winning national championships. They're not just winning, they're
winning they I mean they went back to back. So
(14:45):
you're talking about those players that are leading to back
to back national titles. Uh, that's that's You're going to
have some hard conversations telling them what they need to
do and how they need to do it. If you're
Kirby Smart and that's I mean, that's just the price
in the cost that goes with getting the type of
players that are leading them to those those championships. Anyway,
(15:06):
this's Two Pros and a Cup of Joe. That's Jeff
Schwartz with the great commentary. I'm LeVar Arrington just here
just to help. Coming up next, we're gonna talk a
little bit about Coach of the Year odds and the
NFC South Well, Coach of the Year odds period and
NFC South expectations. One guy in NFC South that could
(15:27):
make a tremendous difference. He took a plea deal, so
we'll talk about that. We're touch on all those things
all right. On the other side of this breaks Two
Pros and a Cup of Joe. Fox Sports Radio will
be right back.
Speaker 2 (15:38):
Be sure to catch live editions of Two Pros and
a Cup of Joe with Brady Quinn, LeVar Arrington and
Jonas Knox weekdays at six am Eastern three am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 3 (15:52):
All right, welcome back into two pros and a cup
of Joe. I'm LeVar Arrington. That's Jeff Swartz. You ever
been close to funkiness? Not tragedy? Well maybe that is
a tragedy when you're funky. But you know what, if
you want to address that funkiness, don't get you a
bar soap. And that bar soap should be Irish springs. Yep,
(16:16):
that's right. The fresh scent of Irish spring and those
sensational Irish spring SUTs just a reset that you need
to own your day. All right, Irish springs. When spring
hits you, you're ready. Pick up Irish Spring at your
local retailer. Two day, All right, pay off this tease here, man,
(16:39):
Coach of the Year. The odds are in, mister Schwartz. Yes,
and I'm just curious. You're you're you're one of those guys.
You're a big time sports better and analysis analysts, prognosticator. Okay,
(16:59):
you bet too. These odds are pretty interesting. So Dan Campbell,
he's leading the way to be the coach of the Year.
Sean Payton. I mean, this is this is on sports
betting dime. I mean, I don't know how this is right, Okay,
if you were you know, just so we're clear. I
don't know. I don't know how good this publication is
(17:21):
or the credibility of it. But hey, I have just okay, perfect.
So you got Dan Campbell at one at eight at
plus eight fifty. You got Sean Payton for the Broncos
at plus nine hundred. You got Everfluse for the Bears
at plus eleven hundred, which is I find to be
kind of I don't know, I don't get it all right.
(17:46):
Then you got Robert Sala at plus fifteen hundred for
the Jets. You got Arthur Smith for the Falcons plus
sixteen hundred. I don't get that one. You got Matt
Lafleur at plus sixteen hundred. You got Frank Reich at
plus two thousand. I'll stop there. And the reason why
I'll stop there is one we could have the topic
(18:07):
the debate of of coach of the Year. But in
that in that group, you have the Falcons and you
have the Panthers, which are both NFC South teams coming
into this season. So I find that to be a
cool conversation, because well, we really don't know what the
(18:30):
NFC South looks like. Obviously, Alvin Kamara he took his
plea deal so that he could have lesser of uh,
you know, lesser whatever. Just get it closed up so
that he can move on with everything that he's got
going on and get back to his life and play ball,
you know. So it's a misdemeanor, so he should be
(18:52):
good to go.
Speaker 4 (18:53):
It's not going to change with the NFL punishes.
Speaker 3 (18:55):
No. I think he's already got six games, right, I
believe it was a six game, is that right. I
don't think he's been suspended yet, not suspended at all.
No decision yet from the NFL. They are still monitoring it. Yeah,
I don't know. I might. I might. Well, it's conduct.
It's a league conduct issue.
Speaker 4 (19:12):
The NFL does not the NFL has does not care
about your your punishment in kind of the court of
law when it when it punishes players based off based
off things that happened off the field, they.
Speaker 3 (19:24):
Never cared, right, I mean, the law is spoken. It's
going to be a misdemeanor charge. I mean it's a
lesser charge. I mean, is that is that a big
enough charge to force some of the miss games?
Speaker 5 (19:35):
Well, the official statement from the NFLF I could read
that it is not enough to simply avoid being found
guilty of a crime. We are all held to a
higher standard and must conduct ourselves in a way that
is responsible, promotes the values of the NFL, and is lawful.
Players convicted of a crime or subject to disposition of
a criminal proceedings are subject to discipline.
Speaker 4 (19:54):
The NFL has never cared whether you've been guilty in
a court of law to punish you.
Speaker 3 (19:58):
Because you've got to protect image, correct, all right. So
with that being said, what do you suspect that Alvin
kamaras Uh, what do you think that.
Speaker 4 (20:08):
I've seen player discipline for these things go from two
weeks to six weeks. I mean, I think he'll be
suspended anywhere around.
Speaker 3 (20:16):
There, somewhere from two to six. Yeah, I don't think
it's going to be very much. I think it might
and I think that's why you take the plea deal,
just because I think in these conversations, these conversations are
are not like the NFL isn't conspiring against you know,
Alvin Kamara. They will sit there basically the conversations will
(20:36):
take place amongst the team the player as to what
it is that they need to do, how to handle
this the best way. So I would assume he took
that plea deal to get get this closed up and
done with, and they're probably saying that this is what
it is probably going to be like two weeks in
the fine, that's what I think. Two weeks or a game.
Speaker 4 (20:57):
I mean, it's gonna it's gonna happen. We will know
soon because it's the NFL. Well, I would imagine now
that it's wrapped up criminally, will have an answer soon.
But I do not expect. I expect there to be
a punishment. I don't know again what it is, we
don't know. To me, it doesn't really affect the NFC South.
Speaker 3 (21:16):
Race all that time. It doesn't do that. Okay, so
let's let's start with Coach of the year. Who do
you who do you see in the coach as the
coach of the Year.
Speaker 4 (21:24):
I wrote Argle for for Fox Sports on this last week,
and my favorite to win this award was Mike McDaniel
the Dolphins and was plus twenty two hundred. Frank Reich
was second on my list. Michael with Daias. So this is,
you know, Coach of the Year. A couple of things
have to happen, right, you have to have a year
out of the ordinary. We saw Brian Dable last year, right,
(21:45):
he was so good as Giants head coach that he
had to win the award. And typically you know you're
a playoff team, right, that's part of the part of
the award to it's based off the expectations all those things.
The Dolphins are gonna be really good, I know to
his health matters. But they were eight and four last
year in games to a start and finished good football team.
And they got better. They got better on defense. They
(22:07):
brought Vic Fangio to run the defense. Everywhere he's been
he's been excellent as a defensive coordinator. Their offensive line
should be better this year. They're just better overall. Right,
they're a better team, and they're gonna be a playoff
team again. And if they win the division in a
division with Josh Allen in Buffalo, Aaron Rodgers in New York,
(22:27):
and I think the Patriots will be good with Mac
Jones and the new offense coordinator, Miyay Daniels going to
win Coach of the year. Absolutely, and people like him,
which is important for this award. The favorite for this award,
LeVar doesn't. Dan Campell's not winning this award. The Lions
had their year last year. They're not gonna be that
much better where you're like, yeah, man, he gets the
award this year. It's not the way this award works.
(22:50):
And I think Mike McDaniel being better this year by
winning the division, I think is there one thing. And
people like him. He's an offense coach, innovative. I think
he was just ward. I think it's his to lose.
Speaker 3 (23:04):
You know, as I as I continue to look through
what the season is going to possibly shape up to be,
I don't think it's going to be Sean Payton because
I think that is just too hard in the in
the a f C West to to get it. I
think that's hard. I think it's up for grabs for
Dan Campbell because in that a NFC North, he certainly
(23:27):
can can have the type of season with all the
other teams being what you could consider vulnerable. He could
have that type of season where he would be warranted,
you know, to to get it. But the name that
I continue to kind of settle in on and and
for for a lot of reasons. One because this division
(23:48):
is wide open. It's the same division that you chose
your coaching Coach of the Year candidate. I'm I'm leaning
more towards Robert Salah for for Coach of the Year
this year, and for no other reason than one, it's
a vulnerable it's a vulnerable division. But two, he has
(24:10):
to be the coach of the year. If he doesn't,
if he does not do what he needs to do,
then you'd have to assume he's probably going to be
out of a job. And and so you've given him
one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time. You have
one of the most balanced best teams personnel wise that
(24:31):
you're going to come across. There are no real excuses
or real reasons why Robert Salah and this New York
Jets team shouldn't have a super Bowl competitive type of year,
winning their division and amongst other things, you know, being
able to possibly make it to the Super Bowl. So
I'm gonna go with Robert Sala because if the New
(24:53):
York Jets are able to do that well, then I
don't feel like there's any way you can go away
from him getting that distinction. All right, Well, god, the.
Speaker 4 (25:03):
One question I have with with with Robert sala is,
are people going to view you know, the success of
the Jets on Aaron Rodgers or Robert Sawa right if
they had that.
Speaker 3 (25:17):
Success, Yeah, I would say, and I take that into
consideration one hundred. But you know, you could go to
a team and mess it up. You know, a team,
a quarterback can go to another team and and that
can get it. This could go terribly wrong. I mean,
(25:37):
there's there's always the idea that, Okay, for for what
it's worth, you could have a tremendous season with Aaron
Rodgers coming to your team, and you could have a
horrible season as well. You know, it could go either way.
So I would say it certainly has to come from
from the head coach being the catalyst of how the approach,
whether it's him being humble enough to allow it to
(25:59):
be because of Aaron Rodgers, or him stepping in and
being a little bit more involved based off of what
the team needs, whatever that may be. I mean, Phil
Jackson didn't have to do much. I mean, was Phil
Jackson winning because of Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen or
Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neill. But he was managing those
those personalities and that's what made him such a strong coach.
(26:20):
So to me, I think him managing those personalities in
New York. In New York and if they win, if
they win, can you really give Coach of the Year
to someone else? If the New York Jets win.
Speaker 4 (26:32):
Well guess I don't think they're going to win at
the rate maybe you do. I think they're by nine
or ten win team. I don't think he gets the award.
Speaker 3 (26:39):
I they No, I don't think so now for nine
or ten. But I think if they.
Speaker 4 (26:44):
Either, what do you think they're what do you think
they're going to finish?
Speaker 3 (26:46):
I think they'll win their division because I don't trust
that Too is going to stay healthy. That's my only
that's my only concern. I'm not sold on to it
being there. And I think it's a different team. If
two is not the quarterback.
Speaker 4 (26:58):
Absolutely so okay, so yes, then if two is not,
If so, the Bills aren't winning the division.
Speaker 3 (27:07):
I don't think so. I think the Bills. I think
the Bills have hit their ceiling. I think this is
the year. If this is the year, to get it
and get it going in a different direction. This is
the year for a team like the New York Jets
or the Miami Dolphins. I think this is a Miami
Dolphins New York Jets year in that division. I do
(27:27):
not think it's going to be the Bills. I think
that they have shown that they had the capacity to
have an implosion take place during the course of this year.
I definitely don't see the New England Patriots being that
type of team in the division this year. It's a
team that's up for grabs and a new team can
grab it. And it could be the Dolphins, it could
be the New York Jets.
Speaker 4 (27:51):
I am curious they're not win a division. But I'm
telling you that the Patriots are going to be a
lot better this year. They remember because Bill O'Brien. Bill O'Brien,
however you feel about him, is the general manager of
the Houston Taxon wasn't very good, very good. That's very
(28:13):
coach though, that's very personal. What about to Houston.
Speaker 3 (28:17):
No, I just don't like him. Oh just oh okay,
well good, that's me just being selfish in the moment,
you know.
Speaker 4 (28:23):
But he can coach football though, Yes, yes he can,
and so you and I like the guy. Other people
aren't gonna be either, but my Maican coach football, and
I think when you add in the defensive play we
saw last year in New England, which was very good
and of the season on a very high note, one
of the better officiency teams in the league, and the
improvement offensively with now a real offense coordinator, they're gonna
(28:46):
be good. And I don't think they would be the
vision good, but they're gonna like they're gonna be like,
oh wow, the Patriots are pretty freaking good.
Speaker 3 (28:54):
Bill O'Brien is sixteenth on on the odds at plus
twenty five hundred.
Speaker 4 (29:00):
Coach of the Year. Yeah, how can he be coaching?
They don't give it to offense corners, do they?
Speaker 3 (29:05):
Bill Belichick?
Speaker 2 (29:06):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (29:06):
Bill Belichick is yeah, Oh he's not. With Belichick and Andy
Reid don't win these awards like the best. Look, if
Belichick goes fourteenth and three, then sure he'll win the award.
By all, he's not going fourteen three. I don't think.
Speaker 3 (29:18):
All right, let's let's let's go over to the NFC
South before we we go to this break, because I
want to pay that off NFC South expectations. I know
you have Frank Reich getting uh what getting the division
with the Carolina Panthers. What would say, Oh.
Speaker 4 (29:37):
Yeah, Frank Reich is my other favorite bet on this
Coach of the Year award. If you think about the
the NFC South, right and you look at at right now,
where teams kind of kind of lay right. So the
the Falcons are starting Desmond Rider at quarterback right now,
I don't think the Desert Rider is the guy. And
(29:57):
their team looks they're going to run the ball first,
They're gonna be kind of conservative offense. Defensively, improvements are
I've been made, but not enough to I think where
you think, like, man, this team, you know they're they're
real threat to win the division. The Bucks are just
not a good roster at the moment, right, I mean
their older roster quarterback, who's who's the quarterback is a
Baker Mayfield. I mean, come on, right, They're not with
(30:18):
a division. Then you look at at the Saints and
and Derek Carr to me is in improvement over what
they had last year. But I watched him for so
many years in Vegas, like in the Oakland. The Panthers
have a very good roster and they added Bryce Young,
who I've talked to players here in Charlotte who are
playing with him and say he is advanced. He is
(30:40):
ahead of the curve. I know that's kind of a
cliche to say, but he's auto bowling plays in practice.
He's changing plays, he's getting them in the right position
more often than not. And if he can stay healthy.
And there is some concern with me with his health
just because of his size. I really think LaVar he said,
like you you, if you tackled him and fell on him,
you might crush him to death, like he is a
(31:02):
small quarterback. Yeah, that's why I concern with him. But
the Panthers are in a good position to win the division.
I feel like brace Zone he's gonna be good if
he can stay healthy.
Speaker 3 (31:10):
I'm still going to go. I'm still gonna go with
the New Orleans Saints on this one. For for some reason,
I went with him last year. I feel like they'll
they'll be that team in the South this year. But
I mean, we'll have to wait and see how that
all plays out. I think that's a very wide open division.
But now it's time for the progressive play of the day.
Speaker 2 (31:29):
I'm going to the d episodes left Field Pack. It

There are some good things that happen, and there's some bad,
and then there's some downright ugly things. It's time for good,
bad and.
Speaker 7 (33:41):
Lovely alright, Lee, Well we got you know, we always
start with the good, and you know I get to
start with the good this week, which is rare, and
it's a rare week where there's not a lot of sports,
so I had to do a little digging, and of
course I came across a little packers love.
Speaker 5 (33:54):
Got to show my guys some love. Aaron Jones qualifies
for the Cornhole.
Speaker 3 (33:57):
World Championship was really for you know.
Speaker 5 (34:01):
You're in the summer, you get you gotta think outside
the bucks. He's well, he's thinking inside the corner hole
box apparently, and he qualified for the World Championships.
Speaker 3 (34:09):
That's what I got in the world of sports.
Speaker 5 (34:11):
On the other news, I've I've obviously complained about my
travel woves.
Speaker 3 (34:14):
I got my bag back. Everybody as good. That's super good.
Speaker 5 (34:17):
They they even delivered it right to my place, no
no extra charge.
Speaker 4 (34:21):
You should never check a bag, so that should not
be a brother.
Speaker 3 (34:23):
That is true.
Speaker 4 (34:25):
We're a team. No check bags. We ain't checking the
back LeVar.
Speaker 3 (34:27):
I tried to check. I worked so hard not It
was the only time I've ever checked a bag. They
made me check a bag at the last second.
Speaker 4 (34:34):
I'm going to Vegas and then Hawaii in a couple
of won't be gonna fight twelve days and down laundry
at the laundry at the hotel.
Speaker 3 (34:43):
Here's my only The only problem I run into with
that is I'm a sneaker head. I have a size
thirteen and I'm a sneakerhad. I gotta check them in
and I make sure that I know the insurance like
what that I take pictures of it all that I
know exactly how much my my my suitcase is worth
(35:04):
when I check it smart.
Speaker 4 (35:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (35:06):
So if anything happens because they you know, somebody cracks
into my suitcase, it's like, oh yeah, we're taking this.
The suitcase is out of there, you know. So for me,
I have to because one because of the weight, and
two I can't fit the amount of shoes into a
carry on.
Speaker 4 (35:24):
Well, if you just rock with the with the one
pair of new balances.
Speaker 3 (35:29):
I don't know if I can. I don't know if
I can get there. But you know, it is what
it is, all right? Well what you got Will Fellows?
Can't have good without the bad? LeVar what was bad
this week? You know, I've debated between what I wanted
to give as my bad lee and and gee, I
really is it? It's a coach is bad? Right? Is
it Pat Fitzgerald? Or is it? Is it my guy
(35:51):
Bobby Huggins. I don't know which one that I want
to go with, so I'll just say they're both bad.
Both Pat Fitzgerald situation and Bobby Huggins situation are both
my bad for the week. Why is it bad to me? Well,
Bobby Huggins recruited me out of high school. I was
I was getting recruited to Cincinnati, and Bobby Huggins was
(36:16):
was one of the guys that, you know, I had
a lot of admiration for as a player because Danny
Forsen was one of the players I played with on
my travel team that ended up playing for the Cincinnati Bearcats.
Why why Pat Fitzgerald? Of course, why Pat Fitzgerald. I mean,
(36:36):
he's he's a linebacker, he's a I believe he won
the Buckets. I could be wrong, but I believe he's
a Buckets Award winner. I mean, we have so many
parallels and so many connecting points as as as athletes
and Big ten linebackers. And I know him personally and
I've I've always been impressed with him as a person.
So that's bad for me, and I wish him the best.
(36:58):
I hope that he lands on his feet. But things happen,
and you got to be a leader in leader situations,
and quite frankly, I guess he came up short on that.
So those are my bads, Those are my beads for
the week.
Speaker 5 (37:09):
And from bad to worse, I'm interested to hear, Jeff,
what was ugly this week?
Speaker 4 (37:13):
Yeah? The MLB All Star uniforms. So we have to
stop doing this. Baseball Baseball has a hard time marketing.
They're superstars, right, They've had this problem for years now,
and you one way to make that worse is to
watch an All Star game and not know who any
of the players play for because you have some generic
uniforms everyone wears. Go back to wearing the uniform of
(37:36):
the team they're playing for.
Speaker 1 (37:37):
Us.
Speaker 4 (37:37):
I can watch the game like, oh, you know what
that guy plays for the Rangers. Oh the guy at
the game wenting home run last night. Guess what he
plays for the Rockies. Instead, I have to guess where
these guys are playing. You guys have got to be
better at marketing. No one's buying the ugly All Star uniforms.
Stop rocking those All Star uniforms. Go back telling him
wear their uniform so we know what team they play.
For It's not like they wear multiple colors of our
(38:00):
It's not like an NFL if you did a Pro
Bowl with home uniforms, you have a green one, a
blue one, a red one, black one, a purple one.
They're all white or they're all gray. It's very easy.
Just let them wear their home uniforms. We can see
what team they play for in the name of the
back of their jersey.
Speaker 3 (38:19):
Right Yeah, well, there you go.
Speaker 4 (38:20):
And they're ugly too, so they were cool uniforms. Maybe
they wore yesterday, they wore the nationally wore a white hat,
a navy a navy top, and a black bottom. Maybe match.
Speaker 3 (38:34):
I wouldn't even know.
Speaker 4 (38:35):
Well, that's why I'm here, Thank you angry about uniforms.
I'm an organ guy.
Speaker 2 (38:39):
Man.
Speaker 4 (38:39):
We the best looking squad.
Speaker 3 (38:41):
Yeah, I do have somewhere you know, they offer my chout.
Speaker 4 (38:45):
Or you should go. We need to talk about this.
Speaker 3 (38:46):
You're gonna get me a call. We certainly will. We
will talk about it. All right. Well, there you go.
That's the ugly, the good, the bad, and the ugly
for the week. Yeah, we got hour three charging that
you right in your face right here right now on
