the way tire buying should be. So for those of
you that are just tuning in and you're trying to
figure out just sore sort of how NFL negotiations go.
When you have a running back like let's, for example,
say Jonathan Taylor, who would like a new deal, and
there's a little bit of a back and forth with
ownership to try and get that deal done, don't worry

(01:28):
about it. Jim er Say is here straight out of
a canteena onto a golf cart, and ready to explain
just the bottom line, straight out of confident and the
bottom line of how negotiation should go and how things
are really done in the NFL.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
If I die tonight and Jonathan Taylor's the league, no
one's gonna miss us.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
The league goes on. I mean, you know, we know
that the National Football rolls on.

Speaker 6 (01:55):
It doesn't matter, you know who comes and who goes.

Speaker 5 (01:58):
So some Monday wisdom from Jim Mercy.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
If I do to night, that's that's straight out of
con that's from Tupac. Right.

Speaker 7 (02:05):
If a night and Jonathan Taylor ain't in the lead,
the NFL is still.

Speaker 6 (02:11):
Going to roll on.

Speaker 8 (02:14):
I mean, I'm just saying that this is a sneak
peak though into the feelings, the feelings of an owner,
right Like, we seldom get to truly hear owners speak
out about how they feel about players and these negotiations.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
But this is one example of an owner speaking out.
I think owners this offseason, probably more than ever, have
felt rather emboldened to you know, speak out about the
value or how they at least see, you.

Speaker 6 (02:44):
Know, players in their eyes.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
And there might be some truth in what he said,
It's just when you're an owner of a team, or
any organization or corporation for that matter, you can't say
those sorts of things.

Speaker 6 (02:56):
You can't say it like that because.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
The hard part is for every other player in that
locker room, you now listen to what your owner is saying,
and he's basically saying that like, there's nothing you bring
to the table that's unique.

Speaker 6 (03:12):
Or that's special or that's different.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
And I think we all as human beings, would like
to think that even though what our genetic makeup is
like ninety eight ninety nine percent the same, there's then
that small percentage that makes us different, and that small
percentage that makes us different, makes us special and unique,
and so I think it it kind of lends itself
to like as we just listened to promos of of
Doug Gottlieb talking about, well, it doesn't matter because the

(03:37):
quarterback wasn't good and Jonathan Taylor, you know. To me,
that's like, well, that's that's one opinion of looking at it.

Speaker 6 (03:44):
The other opinion, though.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
Is how do the how do the words of your
owner impact the rest of the locker room? To me,
it's it's pretty big because you know, Anthony Richdon just
got drafted, so he's not gonna have the opportunity, you know,
to be able to push back on this. But I
would imagine a lot of other playerayers who feel like,
you know, there deals up, their contracts up, They're gonna
try to push for.

Speaker 6 (04:04):
A free agency.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
They want to go to an organization, a place where
they feel like the owner cares about them, respects them.
Because because that's how it comes off, I mean again,
and there might be some elements of truth to it,
like the NFL always moves on, hell show business moves on,
entertainment moves on. I said that the first segment, like
I got hit by a bus walking off the curb.

Speaker 6 (04:26):
This show would still be on air today, that would
be I R.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
Yeah, Brady's dead.

Speaker 6 (04:33):
God, Like, that's that's the truth.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
I'll never forgo.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
I'll never forget doing a a uh doing color analysis
for an Fox NFL game.

Speaker 6 (04:46):
And you know, I was waiting on the play by
play at that time.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
He was late.

Speaker 6 (04:49):
They're like, dude, he's never late.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
I'm going okay, Like like is he okay? Like what
I was like, what happens? Like my mind wanders like, well,
what happens if he's not okay? And they're like, oh yeah,
they'll just find someone else for you to do the
game with. I'm like, hold on a second, Like this
person could be hospitalized, this person could be like dead,
and they're just gonna like the game goes on.

Speaker 6 (05:07):
They're like yeah, pretty much.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
And I'm like, damn, I guess that's how life is
in some ways, right, there's some professions. So even though
like that's the reality of it, when you're the owner
of an organization or any other corporation, like you can't
make your employees feel that way, Like you just can't
see that publicly like that like that's that's that's the

(05:32):
misstep here, in my opinion, I think.

Speaker 7 (05:35):
While the reality of what he said is accurate, I
think it's it's a poor play in the sense that
if I'm a fan, I think to myself, well, maybe
that's why we're not winning Super Bowls. If I'm a fan,
I'm sitting there and I'm thinking to myself, maybe that's
why they hire Jeff Saturday as the head coach. If

(05:59):
I'm a fan and I'm wondering, is is Jim Orsay
someone that I can believe in and I can trust
in to help our city and our team, you know,
guide them to a championship. And while I know he'll
say I have done that and we have been competitive,
I still think it raises that as as a question.

(06:22):
It raises it as a concern because if you if
you look at if you look at Kansas City, you
can't just say that, Okay, we're going to have success
whether we pay Patrick Mahomes or not, or to the
to a better point, like the Kansas City Chiefs will

(06:42):
continue to play once Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes are
not a part of that team one hundred percent correct,
But to say that that team will have the level
of success is much that's a much different conversation. And
so while he's accurate in what he's saying, the show
will go on, the Coats will still play games, the

(07:05):
NFL will still be there, you're still basically saying that
success doesn't matter because it's just a show. And to me,
I feel like that's dangerous because there are superstar employees.
There are high, higher level people that bring a higher
level of accountability, a higher level of performance. They bring

(07:29):
certain things to the table that are commendable and should
be rewarded with the proper compensation that's in any industry.
So to me, I think it's a misstep in the
sense that you gave an overarching statement. Sure, you're right,
the show must go on. The show will go on. Sure,
if Brady Quinn and we had to name the show,

(07:51):
you know, Brady's dead.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
Sure we continue to do.

Speaker 7 (07:54):
The show, but it would know how to say, it
wouldn't be it wouldn't be as good, be the same,
it wouldn't be the same.

Speaker 1 (08:02):
So you know, let me ask you guys this too.
Like the other troubling thing that I think, at least
I see as a as a former player looking at this,
and maybe even from just thinking of like putting my
ownership cap on. If you draft the player in the
second round and he leads the league in rushing his
second year rushed for one thousand yards. By the way,
his rookie year, Okay has an injury last season, he

(08:23):
would have easily broke a thousand yards last year right
May six games, I think it was, yeah, but he was.
It was almost at like nine hundred yards in that
amount of time. You know, you're looking at a guy
that's averaged over five yards per attempt since he's gotten
into the NFL. He's done exactly what you drafted him
and hoped he would do. And so you drafted the guy.

(08:44):
He's he's literally done everything you'd hope you would do
at this point, and now you don't even want to
entertain having a contract conversation with him, like this is
how you're gonna let it play out publicly. I just
think it's a bad message again from an owner. You
really want to be a good leader, like you should
be like, hey, man, Jonathan Taylor's done it everything we've

(09:06):
hoped you would do. You know, unfortunately got injured last year.
We're still working on some things to find the right guy.
Behind center. But he's been everything we hope to do.
We hope to get some sort of deal done at
some point. You don't have to say more than that,
because otherwise, like every other player you draft to in
your organizations to be looking at it saying, wait, this
dude was an All pro and you you can't even

(09:26):
like have a conversation with them about a contract extension.
I mean, that's that's where we are right now, though,
at least in the eyes of Jim Mercy and how
he's handling this, so again he might be trying to,
you know, draw a hard line in the sand.

Speaker 6 (09:40):
I just think it's a really.

Speaker 1 (09:42):
Really bad move, not only for the discussions with Jonathan Taylor,
but I feel like any other player within that locker room,
any other player that gets drafted, their agents, they're going
to play this out and say, this is who you're
dealing with, like when you go in there to play, like,
this is who you're dealing with as an owner and
who I'm negotiating with. So if I can get you
to another organ team where they'll respect you well, they'll

(10:02):
be able to pay you well, they'll be able to
handle you and all that stuff better, Like I will
look to do that.

Speaker 4 (10:08):
Just it's also the most consistent player on offense outside
of Quentin Nelson you've had over the past.

Speaker 5 (10:14):
Since he's gotten to the league. I mean, with every
all the revolving door.

Speaker 4 (10:17):
Of quarterbacks, and I think it should be pointed out
as well too. The Colts have quietly or sometimes not quietly,
been kind of a mess for a long time. And
Jim Mersey's fingerprints are all over it. The Jeff Saturday stuff,
the we were announcing a hire of Josh McDaniels and
it wasn't the hire of Josh McDaniels. And it goes

(10:37):
back to you know, Andrew Luck's retirement on the sidelines
their planet quarterback, like everything like Ryan Grigson is a
higher for GM was a disaster. Like there's a lot
of stuff there that's on Jim Mersay that I don't
think it's talked about a lot because I think people
just go, oh, it's Jim irsay whatever, and it's just
you know, Jim be and Jim. But man, to your point,

(10:59):
if you're one of these other players on this team,
you're looking around, go what the hell am I signing
up for?

Speaker 5 (11:04):
Like, what is happening?

Speaker 4 (11:05):
Here, and it just feels like there's no real he's
just not interested in entertaining the idea of Jonathan Taylor
being a long term fit there. And also Brady Youwitt
and LeVar you may know as well too from Jonathan
Taylor being in the Big Ten. But I know Brady
you covered a lot of his games. Has there ever
been a question about him and his character Jonathan Taylor?
Has there ever been any questions at all?

Speaker 6 (11:28):
He's a tremendous young man. Every He's done every single
thing right. He's just a tremendous young man.

Speaker 4 (11:35):
That's what's weird about it, man, I don't know. Just
so Jim R say firing off and popping off about
Jonathan Taylor, You've also got somebody else, another owner who's
been popping off about a potential contract and potential dispute
going on.

Speaker 5 (11:50):
Somebody who has you know, was paid.

Speaker 4 (11:53):
Zach Martin, the Golden Domer who's looking for a new deal.
He has not been at camp. He has not reported
yet to ak SNAr to be with the Dallas Cowboys
because he's looking for that new deal. And Jerry Jones
decided to give his thoughts, much like Jim Mersay, but
not as harsh of a way as Jim Mersay laid
it out for you. But Jerry Jones talked about why

(12:14):
Zach Martin hasn't gotten a reworked deal or gotten a
little bit more money based on everything that's surrounding him
with the Dallas Cowboys.

Speaker 5 (12:22):
Let's take a listen to the Cowboys owner.

Speaker 6 (12:24):
It's not about Preston, It's about facts. We need the
money to pay Parsons. We need the money to pay
the players that we got to pay.

Speaker 2 (12:33):
In the future.

Speaker 6 (12:34):
In any sense a fact. It's not even a philosophy,
it's just a fact.

Speaker 4 (12:39):
So way to go, a Penn State guy taking money
out of the bank account from a Golden domer. It's
disgusting what's happening here.

Speaker 2 (12:48):
That's not what it is.

Speaker 7 (12:50):
It's just it's a fact that they got to pay
players in the future. See he's prioritizing well, I mean
he did go to Penn State. We are I mean,
I don't know, Yeah, I don't know how to take
this conversation. You're trying to put me in Q against
one and I'm going to take your bait. I'm not

(13:10):
going to take your bait, you know.

Speaker 1 (13:13):
I think they're also two separate conversations, which if you
look at the average annual salary of guards in the NFL,
I believe Zach Martins.

Speaker 6 (13:20):
Went second on that list.

Speaker 1 (13:22):
So you know, Jerry might be looking at saying, look, man,
he was a first round pick. We've paid him, we
signed to an extension, We've paid him.

Speaker 6 (13:31):
You know, we just still feel like two years before he's.

Speaker 1 (13:34):
Able to hit free agency, even though he's got two
voidable years attached to his contract. And that's what makes
us a little bit tricky, right because Zach Martin's really
look for his contract to be restructured at thirty three
years old. You know, he's he's got two years left
on his deal and they really they could move on
from him the next two years.

Speaker 6 (13:53):
But I don't know why they would. I mean, he's
arguably been their best, most consistent player on offense.

Speaker 1 (13:59):
But I think he looked this is his last opportunity
at thirty three years old, to cash in because he
is under control given his contract for the next two
years for sure, maybe four years with the two avoidable
years that are attached on the problem is this, Jerry
set himself up for this when he redid Zeke Elliott's
deal with two years left.

Speaker 6 (14:20):
It's he set a precedent.

Speaker 1 (14:22):
You're always setting a precedent one way or another when
you're talking about negotiations. And once you do it for
one player, every subsequent player is going to ask for
the same thing. Every agent after that is going to
ask for the same thing. And that's what he opened
up the floodgates to do. And Zeke struck gold. He
got a great deal. He did it two years before
he was able to hit free agency for a running

(14:43):
back that's now unheard of. We'll probably never see it again.
And Zach Barn's looking at saying, well, hold on a second,
I've been a better player, more consistently, and yet you're
not willing to redo.

Speaker 6 (14:54):
My contract or restructure my contract.

Speaker 1 (14:57):
And we're going into a pivotal year for Dak Press
Scott and Mike McCarthy can put this.

Speaker 6 (15:03):
I feel like he's got him at a good leverage point.

Speaker 2 (15:05):
Right. Here's perspective.

Speaker 7 (15:09):
You know, Jerry could put some salt on his egg
McMuffin sandwich and die tonight. Zach Martin could be out
of the league and not playing, and you know what,
the Dallas Cowboys are still going to play games and
the NFL is still going to continue on, So there's
no reason for him to really pay him. It's just

(15:31):
what ultimately what it comes down to.

Speaker 6 (15:34):
By the way, here you have it.

Speaker 4 (15:35):
By the way, Zach Martin first bout Hall of Famer, correct.
I mean his like, his credentials are wild now that
I'm looking at it. So he's got six All pros,
he's got you know, I'm assuming he's got a couple
more on him, Like amongst active players, only Aaron Donald's
got more first team All Pro selections in the NFL.

Speaker 6 (15:56):
He's six times first team, two times second team.

Speaker 7 (15:59):
I think about that. That's that That is insane. Six
time first team is insane.

Speaker 1 (16:06):
Yeah, just like the two other It's like the two
other years, like ho Home's second team All Pro, which
is pretty ridiculous.

Speaker 7 (16:14):
So I was able to get I could only muster
second team.

Speaker 6 (16:19):
I was how hard it is. And yes, that's where
he's at, you know.

Speaker 2 (16:23):
Yeah, that's hard.

Speaker 4 (16:25):
Yeah, but you know what though, you could not what
you could make another All Pro and then we could
all die tomorrow. And then if I die tonight.

Speaker 5 (16:36):
A remix with Jim mr Say over the Tupac song and.

Speaker 2 (16:41):
Yeah, straight out of straight out of l A. He
definitely would, straight from the Tales of the Hood.

Speaker 5 (16:48):
Uh, it's two It's two Pros and a Cup of Joe.

Speaker 4 (16:52):
Fox Sports Radio, LeVar Arrington, Brady Quinn, Jonas knocks with
you all right, So coming up next. So, there was
a story that we talked about in the NFL over
the past few days and apparently there was a lot
more to that story. We'll get into the further details
on it, and it's yours here on FSR.

Speaker 3 (17:08):
Be sure to catch live editions of Two Pros and
a Cup of Joe with Brady Quinn, LeVar Arrington and
Jonas Knox weekdays at six am Eastern, three am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (17:22):
Or attention please.

Speaker 4 (17:31):
Hey, he walked Bud Crawford out on Saturday.

Speaker 2 (17:36):
Yes, he did.

Speaker 5 (17:38):
Two Pros and a Cup of Joe Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 6 (17:41):
By the way, we talk about that for a second.
What Jonas transitions to whatever? He walked them out, but
he he didn't really wrap. Yeah, I was like, what's
up with that?

Speaker 1 (17:56):
I mean, and here's the thing that the Twitter handled
that I saw that put it out there when I
was watching it, they were like, oh, the greatest walkout ever.
I'm like, no, it can't be. Like I've watched fifty
lead out different boxers before, like live rap right then,
like that that was dope, Like you can't get better

(18:18):
than that when it's a live performance, like I love
EM and m but he didn't perform, So I don't
know how you could even put in the conversation of
one of the better walkouts.

Speaker 7 (18:28):
Well, Roy Jones Junior when he came out to the
Rottwiler was the greatest probably intro intro and methand Man
was live for that, right, yeah, and rid Man they were.

Speaker 2 (18:40):
Both there, yea, both there.

Speaker 7 (18:41):
Yeah, Yeah, that was that was But I thought it
was a shift from the norm because he didn't perform.
They played his music, but he didn't perform and he
just walked him in. I kind of felt like it
hit a different chord, like it was kind of real.

Speaker 2 (18:59):
Like og type like it. I was just like about.

Speaker 6 (19:06):
To pay be able to pay for whatever that costs.
That's what I felt like, Well, here's.

Speaker 7 (19:10):
What's interesting, but but didn't but wanted it to happen.
I guess the way the story went down, but wanted
it to happen. Somebody put it out there. He heard
about it and said he's one of his favorite boxers,
and and it was like, you know, I'll walk you
out like I walk in with you, like type deal.
I don't even think it turned into like any type

(19:31):
of like well we'll pay you to perform or anything
like that. I don't know, you know, I don't know
the details of it all like that, but just from
the sound of it, it was almost like, man, they
mutually respected each other and he wanted to walk in
with him, So I just thought it was og though
for real, real like to walk in that.

Speaker 2 (19:48):
Way, it's set a tone. I tell you that it's
set a tone. He wouldn't.

Speaker 7 (19:53):
It just looked like he wasn't playing around, man. So anyway,
I liked it.

Speaker 6 (19:58):
I mean, well, it actually speaks to some other current events.

Speaker 1 (20:01):
I mean, I got me think, well, it's no performance
better than I don't know, being on stage at a
concert and someone throws a cup of ice or water
and stuff drink at you, and then you throw the
microphone at them.

Speaker 2 (20:17):
And then you throw your mic at it.

Speaker 9 (20:19):
But then the problem is that well, yeah, but the
problem is the concerts still going on, which that means
all those people over there basically listening to someone's I pod.

Speaker 5 (20:29):
Was that Cardi B.

Speaker 7 (20:30):
Well, she wasn't. She wasn't really worried. She wasn't worried
about continuing the rap.

Speaker 2 (20:35):
They was.

Speaker 7 (20:35):
They were trying to get to the person that threw
the drink. I bet you they punished that person too.
I bet if it was a girl, that might have
been the only way it didn't go bad. They just
I think it was her out. But if that was
hold on, hold on, I could guarantee you let's.

Speaker 6 (20:52):
Not let's not distract from the point.

Speaker 1 (20:54):
Okay if you go see a a artist perform and
you figure out that they're not actually performing, to me, yes,
like that's just that's as bad as it gets.

Speaker 2 (21:06):
Yeah, I'm sorry.

Speaker 4 (21:07):
I mean, you're basically going to an NBA game nowadays
all the stars aren't playing. Its load management, Cardi BT,
that's not a bad listen. She she wanted out of
that concert apparently, and so.

Speaker 2 (21:21):
There are needed load management.

Speaker 10 (21:23):
Leave that alone.

Speaker 5 (21:24):
Just leave it alone.

Speaker 7 (21:25):
I just was asking what you were saying, because you
said load management and and NBA and performing.

Speaker 5 (21:35):
Yeah, she's out of there.

Speaker 2 (21:36):
Hammers, Yeah, Hams.

Speaker 4 (21:42):
By the way, little I'm actually a little bit a
little disappointed in one, Brady Quinn.

Speaker 2 (21:47):
You know the uh.

Speaker 4 (21:47):
Why you're talking about all these great walkouts and you're
not going to mention Shenad O'Connor, the late great Shernado
O'Connor walking Connor McGregor out, Connor McGregor coming out of
mass some Square garden. Remember that singing the the Irish
There's like a traditional Irish folk song that she was
singing at Madison Square Garden. It's pretty fantastic. Look that

(22:10):
up here. But again, you know, we're just talking fighting.
It's what we do here on this show.

Speaker 2 (22:14):
You know, are we going to see him when we we?

Speaker 7 (22:17):
Uh, if we were to venture to a place where
he would have a.

Speaker 4 (22:22):
Pub, I have no idea and not even not even
sure what you're getting at there.

Speaker 5 (22:28):
I I'm focus.

Speaker 2 (22:30):
Could you set that up?

Speaker 7 (22:31):
If we were to be say, ambassadors to that game
that takes place there?

Speaker 2 (22:36):
You know, Yeah, what do you ask me to do?

Speaker 6 (22:38):
You just got to be like straight straight to the
exactly I want to do.

Speaker 2 (22:43):
I want to I want to hang out with Connor McGregor.

Speaker 6 (22:47):
Okay, look into it. I mean I don't.

Speaker 2 (22:53):
I don't know.

Speaker 6 (22:53):
It's schedule and all that.

Speaker 1 (22:54):
But by the way, he might not be drinking a
long island hanging out with them.

Speaker 2 (22:57):
So that's all right. I'll drink his drink. Yeah, whatever,
drink and we're and we're going.

Speaker 7 (23:04):
To go all the way in and we're going to
sing old folk songs.

Speaker 5 (23:07):
You know, just not at a heat game, hopefully because
we're all Irish.

Speaker 7 (23:11):
We're just all Irish, you know. And there will be
no load management, by the way, definitely not.

Speaker 2 (23:16):
We're scoring, just go and do it.

Speaker 4 (23:18):
By the way, speaking of Ireland, I don't know if
I mentioned this to you guys, but Notre Dame does
over up their season in Ireland against Navy.

Speaker 6 (23:25):
And you know what are we allowed to talk about this?

Speaker 5 (23:27):
Talk about?

Speaker 2 (23:27):
What?

Speaker 4 (23:28):
The fact that it's the Summer of Tiraq sweepstakes and
it rolls on that one winner has already been selected

Speaker 5 (24:07):
So what is this?

Speaker 2 (24:08):
I want to ques answer questions? Were you talking about nothing?
I've been advised not to entertain that question from you
or you.

Speaker 6 (24:17):
Wow, I think there's some some passport issues.

Speaker 2 (24:23):
Oh, y'all trying to come my way? Y'all coming my way? Okay,
Oh yeah, see I was on your sack. You.

Speaker 6 (24:31):
I'm just saying, okay, guess what, Okay, guess what. Here's
here's part of the problem. I can't make it. Ask
if I don't know, someone is one hundred to be present.

Speaker 2 (24:38):
All right, I'm going okay.

Speaker 6 (24:43):
I'm just I'm saying we're gonna get through some.

Speaker 2 (24:47):
As soon as I get back to.

Speaker 5 (24:51):
Dang damn.

Speaker 2 (24:52):
That's cold bloody.

Speaker 11 (24:54):
So y'allthing they're saying, y'all can't do talk about this
kind of me.

Speaker 4 (24:57):
God, don't think anything is really official. You know, you
need to get it, don't That was that was my understanding.
I wanted to actually go that direction.

Speaker 1 (25:08):
Wait, is this a moment where we just announced it
and we put pressure on everyone to make it.

Speaker 11 (25:13):
I'm going I'm going, Yeah, I'm going going, I'm going.
All right, I know, I mean I might, I might
haven't expired DIP, but I'm gonna get it unexpired.

Speaker 2 (25:24):
That's that would do it.

Speaker 6 (25:25):
Well, I'll tell you where I How do you let
that DIP get expire? That's what I want to know.

Speaker 2 (25:29):
COVID. I just stopped paying attention to going anywhere.

Speaker 7 (25:34):
You know, I haven't traveled out of the States since
before COVID.

Speaker 2 (25:41):
Yeah, so that's just what happened.

Speaker 7 (25:43):
Man, speaking just now getting back into the groove of
traveling again.

Speaker 4 (25:47):
Speaking of COVID, Aaron Rodgers, you know, was one of
those people who uh spoke out against COVID and vaccines
and all that stuff.

Speaker 2 (25:56):
He was immunized and yeah, he was immunized.

Speaker 4 (25:59):
Yeah, that immune resulted in a seven year contract with
the New York Jets. Can you could somebody explain to
me why this is now coming out that he got
a seven year contract and not the reworked two year deal, Like,
what's happening here? When did this go from there two
years to now he's got a seven year commitment to

(26:21):
the Jets. What am I missing here?

Speaker 1 (26:23):
Yeah, it's an interesting structure because he's he's got a
seven year deal which runs through what twenty twenty nine,
And usually when we see like deals like this with
a player towards the end of their career, they're avoidable years,
so they're kind of dummy years where they're really just
gonna have that player quote unquote under contract to spread

(26:47):
out the signing.

Speaker 6 (26:48):
Bonus they give them.

Speaker 1 (26:49):
Well, in this case, it's it's not really structured that
way the first couple of years. So this year, the
twenty twenty three, they were able to give him a
thirty five million dollar roster bonus. He's only get in
like one point eight you know, or one point eight
four million in salary, and next year same thing, thirty
five million option bonus three point one in salary. So

(27:10):
that's where you start to get that's seventy five million
fully guaranteed in the first two years of this deal.
Then you get in years twenty twenty five to twenty
twenty nine, and he's got another bonus that comes up
in twenty twenty five, not guaranteed though, and very similar
salary structure there, and then twenty twenty six through twenty

(27:30):
twenty nine they're all just twenty million dollar I believe salaries.

Speaker 6 (27:33):
They kind of threw in there.

Speaker 1 (27:35):
But what's unique about it is like, I think they
wanted a few things. One, the Jets wanted flexibility where
let's say, for example, Aaron Rodgers follows and Brett Farve's
footsteps and he plays for a couple of years in
New York and then he wants to move on. It
allows the Jets then to have control over him and
if they trade him, that's part of it. The other

(27:57):
thing is, if indeed he is going to play at
least for the next two years, maybe into year three,
you're talking about a contract that actually holds up really
well to allow them to I guess build around them. Another,
the salary cap. He's not taking up too much of
the cap. It gives them the ability to bring in
star players, and so it allows him to really play

(28:19):
into his forties and maybe he's going to approach you know,
that age that Tom Brady made it to in forty five,
maybe Aaron Rodgers sees himself in a very similar light,
you know, being able to make that much money. So
to me, it's a it's a unique contract. It wasn't
exactly what was reported because it is ultimately more than
a two year deal. It's really more of a three

(28:40):
year deal. And then they have the ability to restructure
and reevaluate where Aaron's at at that point in time.
So a Jets fans to be ecstatic because they've got
a guy who's arguably one of the greatest talents ever
at the quarterback spot in NFL history, and they've got
him under contract for probably the rest of his career.

Speaker 4 (28:58):
Did you see the story that was out there that
Rogers was trying to get some sort of an equity
stake in the Jets that was part.

Speaker 6 (29:06):
Of the Yes minority equity stake.

Speaker 2 (29:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (29:09):
So, and there's already there's already an agent talking about
that for Caleb Williams. Now he's still in college one
more year that he's already talking about. When Caleb Williams
signs his rookie year, will try to give him a
small piece of equity when he gets drafted next year,
think about that.

Speaker 2 (29:24):
Well, I mean, I'm telling dudes to do that for years. Man.
I wish I would have thought about it when I
was playing on.

Speaker 7 (29:31):
Guy, but I heard it's like not going to do
it or something like that where it's like against the
rules to be able to negotiate a deal with that
in it is there like is there something out there
where you can't do that.

Speaker 1 (29:42):
I don't know that it specifically states that in the CBA, however,
it's kind of been just like an understood that it'd
be a conflict of interest if you had a player
who was privy to all of that information, because even
though you're a minority owner, right or a limited partner
in the ownership structure.

Speaker 6 (30:00):
You're still privy to a lot of that information.

Speaker 1 (30:03):
And that's the last thing that the ownership, you know,
wants to get out, whether it be revenue models and
how much they're making and cost cutting measures or even
some of the things that could get passed down to
you being a minority owner. And I think Rogers is
pushing for it because he is.

Speaker 6 (30:18):
A minority owner.

Speaker 1 (30:19):
I believe in the Milwaukee Bucks, if I'm not mistaken, Yeah,
and so because of that, I'm sure he's now become
very aware of how things work in the professional circles,
or at least ownership groups, and I'm sure he's looking
at it saying, you know, I'd.

Speaker 6 (30:34):
Love to have a piece of equity in this moving forward.

Speaker 1 (30:36):
If you really want me to take ownership, you know,
you'd say that that's the ultimate ownership. Not only you're
a player, but you are tied to the success of
the organization with how you play.

Speaker 6 (30:45):
So there is an argument to be made for it.

Speaker 1 (30:47):
But I would imagine most of the thirty one majority
owners and obviously the Green Bay Packers, and no one's
going to be voting for that anytime.

Speaker 4 (30:55):
So now would the other owners in the NFL. Do
you think make Caleb Williams remove the nail pom before
he got the role or would that be something they
would have a conversation about it another time? You think
that would be sort of a deal breaker, the fact
that he paints his nails or.

Speaker 1 (31:09):
No, I mean, I think he's good enough where it
doesn't matter.

Speaker 6 (31:13):
I'm just wondering, I'll be honest with you.

Speaker 2 (31:15):
Yeah, there's people.

Speaker 1 (31:17):
There was an article that just came out saying he
is the best prospect they've seen in the last five years.

Speaker 6 (31:22):
Now, think about that.

Speaker 1 (31:23):
You had Burrow come out, you had Trevor Lawrence come
out like they look at him as like he can
be immediately a Patrick Mahomes Josh allensite prospect to change
the fortune of a franchise.

Speaker 4 (31:35):
I mean, look, if the Cardinals are going to be
as bad as a lot of people think they're going
to be in they're picking number one overall, you mean
to tell me they wouldn't want to move on from
Kyler Murray and start fresh with Caleb Williams.

Speaker 1 (31:46):
Like if I already told you the most tantalizing thing
I think there is, and LeVar maybe could co sign
this all right, if things don't go well in DC,
you could have kill Williams. Maybe there's your quarterback, and
then you've got the number one overall pick.

Speaker 6 (32:04):
And then from there who's from there?

Speaker 1 (32:07):
And then if you have a new ownership group and
you want to make a chance a head coach, and
why not bring Lincoln Riley.

Speaker 5 (32:13):
With Yes, I'm talking about pair it up.

Speaker 2 (32:17):
That's what it's all setting up to do.

Speaker 1 (32:20):
I mean, you could make the case it could set
up to be that but as we all know, the
NFL doesn't always work out the way we think it's going.

Speaker 4 (32:29):
And that means Lincoln Riley wouldn't have to coach a
game in the SEC. So you could just get the
hell out of right game, big ten. You just get
the hell out of there and say I'm gone, Yeah,
I'm out. Then he goes to the NFL.

Speaker 7 (32:40):
And that just now explains why he's taken a one
year vacation outside of just the text message you sent us.

Speaker 2 (32:49):
But he's taking a one year deal with with USC.
Yeah it makes sense if that makes sense. Okay, yeah, okay, yeah,
but tell you that.

Speaker 7 (33:00):
So Cliff would take over and they would stay here,
and then Lincoln would go ahead and take.

Speaker 1 (33:06):
What I mean, Cliff that could take over, or maybe
he goes as the OC or however you see it.

Speaker 4 (33:12):
You know, he can go wherever he wants as long
as he brings company, that's fine.

Speaker 5 (33:16):
Yeah, wherever he wants.

Speaker 4 (33:17):

The old color rush trick they used to pull on
Thursday night football try and get people excited.

Speaker 14 (38:11):
I don't know if you saw this viral going viral
over the weekend. The mountain Dew dogs, a bunch of
hot dogs and flavored mountain dew, turned out to be
a hoax, But people have decided to start boiling their
hot dogs in mountain dew.

Speaker 7 (38:26):
No, no, how heart, They're going to make skittles into
mustard flavor.

Speaker 6 (38:30):
Yeah, out on that seal, Hold on a second.

Speaker 2 (38:33):
Out, I'm out on all of it.

Speaker 4 (38:34):
So they thought, how can we make a hot dog
that much more unhealthy? All I know, let's put some
mountain do in it, simmered on a crock pot and
then throw them in. So it's just disgusting. Man, can't
you just have a hot dog?

Speaker 2 (38:47):
Like?

Speaker 5 (38:47):
Why does everybody have to do all?

Speaker 2 (38:48):
Is it?

Speaker 4 (38:49):
Because it's carnival season? They got to get creative with
their menu items. Just eat your food.

Speaker 10 (38:55):
I guess you brought that to my attention.

Speaker 5 (38:57):
Who's that?
