we get ready for the college football season, which again
(01:17):
is kicking off right around the corner and in fact
in Dublin, Ireland, I'm not again not sure if you're
aware that Notre Dame and Navy.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
Well that's right in week zero a rescheduling conflict from
the COVID year.
Speaker 4 (01:32):
They were supposed to play over.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
In Dublin, Ireland back then, but it got kicked at
twenty twenty three. So fortunately, you know, it kind of
worked out where for now they play this year.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
Yeah, and a lot of fun. It's a lot of fun.
I'll bet the atmosphere is going to be great. You know,
anybody attending that, you know?
Speaker 4 (01:53):
How about this?
Speaker 1 (01:53):
Do you do? You know many comedians are you? Are
you big into like the comedy world?
Speaker 5 (01:58):
I know a few?
Speaker 1 (01:59):
Okay, Yeah, So Shane Gillis, who's absolutely hilarious.
Speaker 5 (02:03):
Yeah, like tabooz.
Speaker 4 (02:05):
He does. He's good, he's a good time. He'll be
over there. He's got a couple of shows going on,
no kidding.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
Yeah, that's that's one of the cooler things he's able
to do is he can kind of set up wherever
he wants to go, do shows around on football games
he wants to attend, and he's a big Notre Dame fan,
so he will be over there doing shows in Dublin,
Ireland on Thursday and Friday night before the game.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
Does he really schedule his tour around games he wants
to attend.
Speaker 4 (02:30):
Yeah, I mean, in essence, you could do that.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
I mean, first off, they're both sold out, and second like,
you can do that when you're as popular as he
is and as funny as he is.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
So should be a good time.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
Hopefully people who are over there are going to have
the opportunity to go.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
You know, one of those two nights, DNA listen, make
sure your passports and all that are, you know, are
all dialed in. You know, they want to have everything
buttoned up, don't have any issues or anything like that
when you head over there.
Speaker 5 (02:56):
MoMA, No, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
Yeah, I don't know what what LeVar has to do
with that, but again, Iowa, Sam's just kind of pulling
the strings here behind the scenes. So but yeah, it
should be a good time. You know, I've heard Tiesto
maybe playing or dj TSTO as you call him, Brady Quinn.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
I would not call him DJTS. That's very cringeworth. They
that's all right.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
But the point is college football is right around the corner,
and I'll look at that. More players being charged in
the Iowa Iowa State gambling investigation.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
What do you know?
Speaker 3 (03:31):
And this time we've got multiple starters. We've got multiple
players betting on games they participated in. Yes, you got
you got one guy that had so little faith in
his team that he bet on Texas on the money
line and Texas got blown out and he was part.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
He took the spread on that one. I thought he
was taking Texas plus six and a half.
Speaker 3 (03:54):
I thought it was the money line. But again, either way,
you bet against the team you play in a game
you played in and you lost, so that feels like
it should be double the punishment they won.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
He lost the bet, Yeah, right, Iowa State was a
six and a half point favor versus Texas and they
ended up winning thirty to seven. In this case, this
player did have a tackle in the game. However, he
lost the bet. My understanding was he took Texas and
the points, which I don't want to get into semantics.
You bet against your team. If it's money line, it's
(04:29):
incredibly damning. If it's points, it's like, well, Iowa State
could have won.
Speaker 4 (04:34):
He just thought it was gonna be a closer game,
even though he was playing at it.
Speaker 1 (04:37):
So maybe during his time when he was researching his
opponents and what they were going up against, he was like,
oh man, this is gonna be a tight game. I
think we're gonna win, but we probably won't win by over.
Speaker 4 (04:48):
Six and a half.
Speaker 5 (04:48):
So if we were goofing about, okay.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
One of the players involved was a kicker for Iowa
He was a backup kicker.
Speaker 5 (04:54):
He didn't really have any impact.
Speaker 4 (04:55):
On the game, dude, just insider knowledge.
Speaker 3 (04:58):
These are like Iowa State started running back Dryl Brock.
He's involved. You've got other players who have been starters,
they're involved. Like You've got like this is this one's
bad man. This is not goof around because Calvin Ridley
bet on some seventeen parlays.
Speaker 5 (05:14):
This is bad.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
This is on your team, impacting your team. You got
players that have transferred elsewhere. You got a guy that's
in the NFL for the Broncos. Now who is involved
in this this is the worst one that we've seen
flare up when it comes to gambling, especially in the
world of football.
Speaker 5 (05:31):
This is the worst one so far.
Speaker 4 (05:33):
It's upsetting in a multitude of ways.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
I mean, the first being the fact that you know,
when you have a player that bets against his own team,
it really makes you, you know, look at what's his prerogative,
Like it's like, serious sake, why is he there? Is
he there to help them win games? Help them win?
You know, maybe in this case if it's if it's
Iowa State a Big twelve championship, if it's Iowa Big
(05:57):
Ten championship, But why is he there? Is it just
to try to make money and get to the NFL
if you can through nil? Does he care about the
educational component? Does he care about his reputation? There's so
many questions I have because I think what you're seeing,
at least in respect to the gambling world and how
(06:17):
it's at least with these stories, has impacted football players
at Iowa Iowa State is I feel like if they
don't feel like they have a shot of winning anything,
they're like, all right, I'm just trying to make whatever
money I can with the advantage that I have playing,
so I'm able to see what's going to happen. I
can lay some beds, hopefully make some money, have an
(06:38):
edge on the market, and then move on if no
one catches me to the NFL or the rest of
my life, because they don't have that greater thing that
they're chasing and trying to go go after. And the
irony to saying that is we had Iowa playing in
the Big Ten championship game last year, Like it wasn't
like they didn't have the opportunity to do something significant.
(07:00):
Michigan didn't beat Iowa last year.
Speaker 5 (07:02):
It was years ago. Last year's Purdue.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
Two years that's right, two years ago, tw yers year,
you're right, but well, and still the sort a chance
at the end of the season, didn't they.
Speaker 6 (07:12):
Yes, yeah, if they had not lost in Nebraska at home,
they would have been the West champs.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
So, like, I still don't really understand why all this
is going on. It's not like, you know, Iowa in
this case wasn't competitive. Even Iowa stayed in some instances
has been competitive where they might have been able to
have a shot. You know, last year probably you know
wasn't a great example of that. But I just I
wonder if that's what's factoring into these kids' heads, like
outside of the fact they're young. And when you're young,
(07:38):
you're dumb, you make mistakes, you make poor decisions, that
you're thinking more in the short term, not the long term,
and you don't think about if you get caught.
Speaker 4 (07:45):
You think about the reward, not the risk. That tends
to be young people.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
The older you get, the more you think about risk
and anything you do, whether it's before you become a parent,
when you become a parent, you start to measure things
differently where you're much more risk adverse when you're young,
like you don't think about the stupid stuff you could
do and the repercussions for it. But now you're getting
to a point where, I mean, when you're talking about
(08:10):
betting against your team and you played in that game,
that's criminal.
Speaker 5 (08:13):
That's dirty, man, Well it's.
Speaker 4 (08:15):
That's something dirty.
Speaker 1 (08:16):
It takes you back to the days like didn't BC
have like a betting scandal one.
Speaker 3 (08:19):
Of the point shaving you fixing games in the game, and.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
Again you go back to teams that aren't necessarily going
to be relevant in the grand scheme of winning a
national championship because the.
Speaker 4 (08:31):
Odds are you know, and the risk is too high.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
And I think those kids they're not focused on that anyway,
Like the kids who are going to go play at
other places where they have a legit shot every year
competing for a national championship, they doesn't even factor into
their brain to go out and take that insider not
you know, insider you know information and go gamble.
Speaker 4 (08:53):
They're like, no, no chance, I'm not gonna.
Speaker 1 (08:54):
Hurt my team chance to win a national championship. If
you're on any one of these teams that they kind
of feel like as irrelevant or there's out there playing games,
I could see it factoring into their head more of
using the insider information. They have an advantage if they
can gamble, to bet now, to bet against your own team,
though that's just dirty, Like that's one where like you
kick the kid off, you suspend them, you allow them
(09:16):
to face whatever punishment he gets, because you're breaking trust,
you're breaking bonds, you're breaking laws, you're breaking a lot
of things that you just can't afford to have that
ever ever in college football or anither's sport for that.
Speaker 3 (09:29):
Matter, I just I can't imagine and look I did
a lot of dumb things when I was eighteen to
twenty four years old.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
Yeah, we all did, but still though not that dumb.
Speaker 3 (09:40):
This one feels like I would at least know and
this is not good, Like this is not right, you
should not be doing this. I think I would still
have a sense of this is not an okay thing
to do. And if you're a loyal teammate, and your
teammate and the bond you have with your teammates is everything,
you're not going to do something knowing that it's disrespectful
(10:02):
to them. And you're screwing over a lot of people
who are pouring their heart and soul into this because
you've got money and some you know, two hundred dollars
bet that you've made through the equipment manager or whoever
it was to put together these bets like this just
this feels like and I don't know when it ends,
because it seems like, Okay, we've reached our end, and
(10:24):
now more players continue to come out and more players.
It's almost like they're slow playing this and just releasing
a couple here and a couple there. But this element
of it, I think it may even be worse than
you know what we saw with Hunter Deckers, who was
a quarterback for them. Because this is multiple players, this
is players, managers, people who have transferred. You got one guy,
(10:46):
let me get because there's so many names involved here.
Arlyn Bruce the fourth who's a former Iowa player who
bet on the under on two games back in twenty
twenty two. Last year, he bet the under against Northwestern
lost by the way seven and a half. Shocking, Yeah, shocking,
It is shocking. See also he also on the right
(11:09):
side of that. He definitely was. And I don't know
how any of you spent your New Year's Eve. He
spent his New Year's even Nashville, Tennessee. Great spot from
what I hear, but there was while there was a
football game going on. It was the Music City Bowl.
He also bet the under on that. The under was
thirty thirty one and a half and he did end
(11:30):
up winning that game because Iowa won their bowl game
twenty one to nothing.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
So well, but he knew exactly what the Iowa defense
was bringing. Come on, Sam, come on, Sam, correct under
more often than not.
Speaker 4 (11:41):
Do you know what the Hawke gys uh lately?
Speaker 2 (11:44):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (11:45):
Yeah, yeah, absolutely? I mean there was a there was
a time when Iowa could score touchdowns and Will Lewis
didn't play in that game. Correct, No, he did not. Yeah,
so so I mean that was a lot of guys
that did not play.
Speaker 5 (11:55):
That was that was a smart.
Speaker 1 (11:56):
Pay Hey, let's not take away, okay from what i
Will accomplished.
Speaker 6 (12:01):
Two of their touchdowns in that game were defensive touchdowns.
They scored one offensive touchdown the Music City Bowl.
Speaker 1 (12:06):
Okay, Sam, we get it. But there's takes two to tango.
It's not all just about the offense not scoring. Sometimes
it's about the defense to shutting out the other side,
which the Iowa defense has been known for that.
Speaker 3 (12:17):
All right, all right, so let's be honest here, and
I'm half kidding, but I do think there's this is
a possibility. Do you think Kirk Farnce, head coach of Iowa,
and his son Brian Farrence, the offensive coordinator, do you
think at some point during the course of the season,
to try and get the offense motivated, they say, listen,
(12:38):
you know what people think about you. They think you're
so bad that they're betting against you, and they're part
of this locker room in years past. Why do you
think about that? And you guys get it in Gear.
I would absolutely pull that card to get them motivated,
especially if I'm Brian Farrence and I've got money on
the line, because there's kickers in my contract that if
we score a certain amount of points that I'm gonna
(13:00):
get paid more. I'm using everything i can to get
my team motivated. I don't care. This is this is
all above board. The investigation has been gone through. We
know we had a bunch of scumbags in our locker room.
Let's start airing people out for being degenerate gamblers and
used it a positive way to get our offense and gear.
That's the move. What do you think about that, Brady Quinn?
(13:21):
That's how you get people fired up?
Speaker 1 (13:23):
I bet I don't think it is that would give
me fired up.
Speaker 4 (13:27):
I'd be like, what, Yeah, we're doing what.
Speaker 3 (13:30):
Our own guys are betting against us. That's how bad
we've been on offense.
Speaker 4 (13:33):
Well, how do you know that? Coach? Like, who's who's
land BET's down here? Who is it?
Speaker 3 (13:37):
Hey?
Speaker 4 (13:37):
Is it? Frankie?
Speaker 1 (13:38):
Is it? Will? Hey?
Speaker 4 (13:39):
You remember Arlin the fourth Ramona? Who's who's betting against us?
Right now? Mad?
Speaker 3 (13:45):
Do you think there's more that come out of this
Cooper who's against us? Do you think there are more
names of this Iowa Iowa state scandal.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
I don't know, maybe, I mean, I look, I don't
want to call it a scandal. I know there is
some organization to it in some cases, right was it
a Hunter Decker or someone's using his mom's account she
was placed in the bets. I mean, there's Look, there's
there's going to be some poor decisions that are made
as gambling rolls out state by state nationwide.
Speaker 4 (14:18):
You're going to have bad actors.
Speaker 1 (14:19):
You're going to have people who try to rig the
system or you know, find a way around it. That's
just how things always work. It doesn't matter what industry,
what you're talking about. I don't know that this is
like as wide as rampant as some of the other
actual gambling schemes that we've seen have gone on through
the years. But you know, again, I'm hoping it doesn't
(14:41):
become a distraction. College football is awesome, and I would
hate to see a team like Iowa, who has a
legitimate shot of competing this year with some of the
moves they've made, be you know, distracted by all of this.
Speaker 4 (14:55):
Hopefully, they're there.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
They've got their eyes on the prize, and that prize
is not winning a gambling bet.
Speaker 5 (15:00):
All right.
Speaker 3 (15:00):
So I'm gonna ask you a question here, all right,
and we're gonna do it in a gambling term, just
to really round out the entire discussions. Okay, Sam, can
we get some music here? Is there like an Iowa
folk song that they use while they're making crop circles?
Anything you just off the top of your head, you
can roll with that. Somebody created in a barn with
some sort of a mixtape somewhere in Iowa.
Speaker 1 (15:21):
Uh so they create mixtapes in barns, by the way, Sam,
is that is that how that works? Like?
Speaker 4 (15:25):
Did they just sit in a barn on a bail
of hay and make a mixtape? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (15:29):
The acoustics are great.
Speaker 3 (15:30):
You know, there's like a pitchfork bang against the side
of the wall in the background.
Speaker 5 (15:34):
Like it's awesome.
Speaker 4 (15:35):
Man.
Speaker 5 (15:35):
Let me tell you that's.
Speaker 3 (15:36):
Where a lot of great in the background, all that stuff. Yeah,
who needs a bass drum? You just have your buddy
go cow tipping while they're sleeping. Yeah, all of that stuff.
Speaker 4 (15:48):
That's it's probably better that damn catles in the flight.
Speaker 5 (15:50):
With Yeah, that's it.
Speaker 1 (15:53):
Now.
Speaker 3 (15:53):
Do you think if anybody was flying to Dublin for
the start of college football, do you think they would
experience a cat on a flight like that or probab no.
Speaker 1 (16:00):
Because the Irish won't allow cats over there.
Speaker 5 (16:02):
Okay, geez, only dogs, it's like that.
Speaker 3 (16:05):
Huh yeah, all right, Here's here's what I preface this
real quick.
Speaker 5 (16:13):
Why do you complicate things?
Speaker 2 (16:14):
Well, you asked me to pick a folk song that
is near.
Speaker 4 (16:17):
And why are you complicating things?
Speaker 6 (16:20):
I just want to say that this is the game.
This is the song that people play at the end
of it when they win a game. It's called the
Iowa Victory PoCA, also known as Heaven.
Speaker 4 (16:32):
There is no beer, this is this is great.
Speaker 6 (16:34):
So I'm going to play this. I don't want Iowa
fans getting mad at me. I'm just playing it just
for the bit do a world traveler. They got bigger
problems to worry about, all right. So, Brady Quinn, here's
what I got for you.
Speaker 3 (16:49):
To celebrate the degenerate gambling of the Iowa Hawkeys and
the Iowa State cyclones.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
I've got an over under for you over under.
Speaker 3 (17:05):
Ten dollars on the average bet that Jarill Brock made
the Iowa state starting running back.
Speaker 4 (17:14):
Over that you're over, yeah, over.
Speaker 3 (17:19):
Jerrell Brock placed one thousand, three hundred and twenty seven
online wagers.
Speaker 4 (17:27):
Oh jeez, okay, I don't think you bet that much.
Speaker 3 (17:31):
Totaling twelve thousand and fifty dollars averaging out just to
shade over nine dollars a bet. So congratulations Darrell Brock.
You at least are a man of the people, one
of those under ten dollar betters. My kind of people there.
Speaker 1 (17:49):
I'm sure that probably categorizes as a gambling problem.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
Oh, he's got a degenerate, flunky gambler.
Speaker 4 (17:57):
I met to figure about it. But someone needs to.
Speaker 1 (18:00):
Get that young.
Speaker 2 (18:02):
Well, you a gambling problem.
Speaker 4 (18:05):
By the way, he needs some milk.
Speaker 3 (18:07):
I believe if you if you've got more online wagers,
then you do rushing attempts in your college football career
or rushing yards, that would be a problem.
Speaker 5 (18:18):
That seems like it would be a.
Speaker 1 (18:19):
Little bit trying to explain to you is as this
becomes more prevalent, you're gonna be getting guys who aren't
playing and they're they're seeing other guys make nil money,
or they're seeing other guys you know, get more attention
and potentially go to the league.
Speaker 4 (18:33):
They're gonna be staying.
Speaker 1 (18:33):
To themselves, like I got to find a different angle
to make some money. Yeah, and that's that's one of
the ways you can do it.
Speaker 5 (18:39):
Yeah, who wants to drive an uber?
Speaker 3 (18:41):
You know, open up a gambling account and start betting,
gets your own team?
Speaker 5 (18:44):
What a disaster. So there it is.
Speaker 3 (18:47):
There's your your preview of the Syhawk Bowl coming up
here in a moment or so. It is Two Pros
and a Cup of Joe here on Fox Sports Radio
Brady Quinn, Jonas Noxy that you can listen to this
show as always on the iHeartRadio app. So the one
thing we don't want to do is like promote any
sort of gambling or be degenerates here on this show.
Speaker 5 (19:08):
Now that's a lie.
Speaker 3 (19:09):
We're going to pick every single NFL preseason game this
weekend against the spread. I don't think it's ever been
done in the history of sports talk radio because I
don't think anybody has the balls we do.
Speaker 5 (19:21):
And you're going to listen to it. That's next.
Speaker 7 (19:24):
Be sure to catch live editions of Two Pros and
a Cup of Joe with Brady Quinn LeVar Arrington and
Jonas Knox weekdays at six am Eastern, three am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 5 (19:38):
So this is what Eric Benemy says to Ron Rivera.
Speaker 1 (19:42):
I don't know, but Sam is all over the world
so far today with this mis Eric the Enemy.
Speaker 5 (19:47):
Walks into Ron Rivera's office and just looks at him
and says.
Speaker 4 (19:51):
Oh, yeah, you think this is what he says?
Speaker 5 (19:54):
Oh gotta be what a bad song.
Speaker 3 (20:02):
It is two pros and a cup of Joe here
on Fox Sports Radio. So we are going to be
complete and total degenerates here in honor of Iowa and
Iowa State coming up here in just a couple of
moments from now. But first, for all the latest from
around the world of sports, we present to the mon
Oh thank you?
Speaker 4 (20:22):
What just happened?
Speaker 5 (20:23):
What do you mean?
Speaker 1 (20:24):
What do you guys? You guys don't want to do
your thing.
Speaker 5 (20:27):
Our three Yeah, space it out.
Speaker 4 (20:30):
I mean, you on your toes, it's your thing.
Speaker 1 (20:33):
But I'm just going to say, like, I still feel
like you got to keep doing it.
Speaker 2 (20:36):
I appreciate that, you know.
Speaker 3 (20:38):
I'm just glad you guys are getting along. After that
whole yeah, after top golf fiasco.
Speaker 2 (20:45):
What fiesco are you talking about?
Speaker 3 (20:48):
You got very you got sensitive when Brady was so
excited about Top Golf.
Speaker 8 (20:52):
I think sensitive since you're bringing something that happened over
a year ago.
Speaker 5 (20:57):
I listen, I'm trying to make sure we're on the
same page.
Speaker 1 (21:00):
I mean Monthcia Jonahs say, is very second if you
haven't known that already. Yeah, by the way, when I
was in Vegas for the PAC twelve Media.
Speaker 2 (21:08):
Days, you went to Top Golf.
Speaker 1 (21:10):
No, no, I did not. But I also couldn't even
see where it's at, because I mean, is it even
close to the strip?
Speaker 2 (21:18):
Is it's like behind MGM.
Speaker 3 (21:19):
Grand Okay, it is, it's They say it's on the property,
because I was when I was at my buddy's bachelor party.
Speaker 5 (21:25):
Part of it was at Top Golf. They say it's
on the property.
Speaker 3 (21:30):
If it is, it's at the very last portion of
the Yeah, Like.
Speaker 8 (21:34):
You can get to it going through the casino, but
then you went about side it like the parking lot.
Speaker 3 (21:39):
Yes, it's a pain in the ass. Yes there so, yeah,
it is technically, but it's not really all that close.
Speaker 2 (21:45):
Yeah, No, it's a walk, but it is.
Speaker 8 (21:46):
It is technically connected to the MGM grand But.
Speaker 1 (21:49):
Well, we do. My issue was more I think it
was about one hundred and fifteen degrees.
Speaker 2 (21:54):
Oh yeah, there's that, And so I don't.
Speaker 1 (21:57):
Understand how anyone would want to for a period time
in the year be outside in that heat for any
longer than five minutes to get from point A to
point view.
Speaker 2 (22:06):
Yeah, you know, there's there's actually a pool, a tough core. Sure, yeah, pool.
So that's an option.
Speaker 5 (22:13):
But it doesn't look like the cleanest pool in the world.
Speaker 2 (22:15):
No, no, but it's Vegas.
Speaker 8 (22:16):
What is the cleanest pool if you're going to Vegas?
Speaker 2 (22:21):
Vegas?
Speaker 1 (22:23):
The problem is, like when you think about what's in
that pool, it's not like other pools that are public pools,
or like someone might go to the bathroom. These are
people who are just juiced to the gills, who have
god knows what are the drugs in their system. Right,
that is quite the concoction that is in that pool
of stuff that's coming out of those people's bodies.
Speaker 2 (22:44):
Yeah, that's true. It's meth soup. It's you know, it
has stopped.
Speaker 8 (22:49):
My favorite story that came out in the last couple
of hours is that Philip Rivers was going to come
out of retirement.
Speaker 2 (22:57):
Yes, I would have loved that. Kyle Shannan confirmed that
the forty nine were planning to bring.
Speaker 8 (23:01):
Him in if they had beat the Eagles in the
NFC Championship Game and made it to the Super Bowl.
There were two pre season NFL games on Thursday. The
Seahawks defeated the Vikings twenty four to thirteen. Note Kirk
Cousins no Gino Smith. The Texans beat the Patriots twenty
to nine. We did see rookie quarterback c J. Strout,
it wasn't great, two to four for thirteen yards and
one interception. The twenty twenty three twenty twenty four NBA
(23:24):
season is going to begin on Tuesday, October twenty fourth,
with a double header featuring the Lakers taking on the
reigning champs, the Nuggets, and the Suns taking on the
Warriors at the FedEx Saint Jude Championship. Jordan Speith is
in the lead after day one. He is seven under
par and Tom Kim is one stroke back. And in
Major League Baseball, the Dodgers have won five in a row.
They held on to beat the Rockies two to one,
(23:45):
while the Phillies defeated the National six to two. Trey Turner,
Nick Castallanos, and J. T Real Muttel all hit two
run homers in the victory, and the Pirates came back
from behind to beat the very hot Braves seven to five.
Matt Olsen still hit a home run. Is Unstoppable Number
forty in the of the year.
Speaker 3 (24:03):
Back to you, guys, Thanks MONSI two pros and a
cup of Joe here on Fox Sports Radio, brought to
you by Irish Spring. The fresh set of Irish Spring
and those sensational Irish Spring SuDS are just the reset
you need to own the day Irish Spring. When the
spring hits you, you're ready to pick up Irish Spring
at your local retailer today. So we are going to
talk about how the NFL is making some changes that
benefit you. That'll be coming up here in about fifteen
(24:25):
minutes from now, but right now, I believe this is
a first in the history of sports talk radio because
nobody's had the guts, nobody's had the stones and the
words of Andy Furman, nobody's had the hanging downs to
gamble on preseason football, let alone the first week of
preseason football and every single game against the spread.
Speaker 5 (24:46):
So let's do it.
Speaker 2 (24:48):
Lead to lap Mono Imano.
Speaker 3 (24:52):
I've been researching for hours, copious research because I plan
on winning this first ever edition of Degenerate Gamblers Plus
with Brady Quinn.
Speaker 5 (25:06):
So what do we got.
Speaker 3 (25:06):
We're gonna pick every single game against the spread, according
to our friends dur at Draft Games.
Speaker 9 (25:11):
Well, we got six games on a Friday, six games
on a Saturday, two on a Sunday.
Speaker 2 (25:16):
We got a full slate.
Speaker 10 (25:17):
Of games, fellas, and we're gonna.
Speaker 2 (25:19):
Start it off with this.
Speaker 9 (25:19):
We're gonna start off with the Giants at the Lions,
where the Giants are three point favorites on the room.
Speaker 1 (25:27):
Oh man, I think I've taken the uh. I think
I'm gonna take the home Dogs. I'm gonna take Detroit
and the three points, a lot of buzz around them.
I feel like, too, you just signed Teddy Bridgewater, who
he'll probably get the bulk of the reps in this one.
Speaker 4 (25:47):
I think he wants to come in and show if
we can still.
Speaker 1 (25:49):
Play and dice it up a little bit, so maybe
builds a lead they sustain that league.
Speaker 3 (25:53):
Yeah, I'm gonna take the Lions as well too. I
just feel the momentum that they're carrying season tickets are gone.
They're the favorite to win the division. I think Dan
Campbell knows this is a statement game. I'll take the
home team getting three points at home league all right.
Speaker 9 (26:06):
Next, we got the Packers at Cincinnati. Packers are four
and a half.
Speaker 10 (26:09):
Point favorites II the win.
Speaker 4 (26:14):
We know how much playing time Jordan Love's gonna get
this thing.
Speaker 10 (26:17):
Matt Lafleur did not say exactly how much time?
Speaker 4 (26:19):
Yet did you say earlier? Does this the LA Floor
have a bad win, lost reck in the preseason? Who does?
I'm gonna take the home dog.
Speaker 1 (26:27):
I'll think the four and a half points and the
Cincinnati Bengals. I know Burrow's not gonna be a part
of this, but you're not necessarily sure that's gonna matter
quite as much. So I'm gonna think the Bengals.
Speaker 3 (26:36):
Yeah, I'm gonna take it a step further. I'm gonna
take the Cincinnati Bengals plus four and a half, if
not for anything else other than the fact that I
think I like chili better than cheese, and so I'm
gonna go with Cincinnati in this matchup because I think
that's what the real telltale side of how this is
gonna go.
Speaker 4 (26:51):
I mean, you realize Skyline Chili or gold Star, even
though it gets not at the same level.
Speaker 1 (26:56):
You realize that's just the combination of cheese and chile.
This is essentially the Skyline Chili game in Cincinnati because
you get the combination of green based cheese and it's chili.
Speaker 3 (27:08):
There since Saty, let me ask you a question. You
pull up to a bar, they got two options. You
can have cheese curds or a bowl of chili.
Speaker 5 (27:15):
What are you going at?
Speaker 4 (27:15):
Bullet chili?
Speaker 5 (27:16):
Not That's why Bengals plus four and a half is the.
Speaker 10 (27:20):
Pick here league, I combine chili.
Speaker 1 (27:22):
By the way, Charlie Jones will have a big night
for the Bengals.
Speaker 5 (27:27):
Oh yeah, yeah, all right now.
Speaker 4 (27:30):
Chuck Sizzle, Chuck sizzle.
Speaker 1 (27:32):
Baby. Yeah, you can't claim them. He went to Purdue, and.
Speaker 2 (27:37):
He went to Buffalo, then he went to Iowa, then
he went to Purdue.
Speaker 4 (27:40):
Yeah, that's what I'm saying. You can't claim them, though.
Speaker 5 (27:43):
I absolutely did. All right, what else we got, Lee?
Speaker 9 (27:46):
We got Steelers at Bucks. Steelers are two and a
half point favorites on the road.
Speaker 4 (27:51):
What is with all these these home dogs? I don't
like it?
Speaker 1 (27:56):
And maybe maybe I'm the fish right now and I'm hooks.
Baker Mayfield gets to start. I think it's to showcase
a little something something, So I'm gonna go with the uh.
Speaker 4 (28:06):
I'll take the Bucks that two and a half points.
Speaker 3 (28:09):
I think there's some familiarity here, and I think Mike
Tomlin's got a bone to pick with Baker Mayfield. He
remembers what happened in that playoff game partistic, and I
think that Mike Tomlin is going to send out the
dogs the dog He's gonna get after him. I think
there's a reason Pittsburgh's a two and a half point
favorite in this matchup.
Speaker 5 (28:27):
I'll take the Steelers.
Speaker 1 (28:28):
Keep an eye on Raheem Jarrett, rookie free agent wide receiver.
Speaker 4 (28:33):
Kids got a lot of talent ability out of Maryland.
Speaker 1 (28:36):
But don't forget too Kyle Trask is still trying to
prove himself. A lot of guys with a little depth
there in Tampa try to prove himself, So I don't
know this would be pretty competitive.
Speaker 9 (28:45):
Next up, we got Commanders at the Browns where the
Browns are at three point home favorites.
Speaker 4 (28:50):
I'm laying the three points with the Browns.
Speaker 1 (28:53):
I'm not sure what to expect out of Washington this year,
and obviously the offense hasn't been doing great for Washington.
Otherwise we wouldn't have these these issues right now with
Eric b Enemy at least coming up.
Speaker 4 (29:03):
As far as the confrontation with players.
Speaker 3 (29:05):
Yeah, I'm gonna take the Brownies as well too. Three
point favorites. I look at this matchup and I go
this screams to me dissension in Washington and the Browns
just loving the fact that somebody else has got some
negative press and it's not them. I'll take the Browns
plus three at home.
Speaker 9 (29:22):
Next up, Falcons at Dolphins. Falcons are two and a
half points favorites.
Speaker 1 (29:25):
On the road, I'm gonna take Atlanta. Maybe I'm a
little persuaded by Albert Breard tew us yesterday he thinks
that's the one of the surprise teams in the NFC.
But I also think that's a team with a deep
stable of running backs. I would not be surprised if
they don't try to run all over Miami in this one.
(29:47):
So I'm gonna go ahead and lay the two and
a half points there with the Falcons.
Speaker 5 (29:50):
I'm going to go with the Dolphins.
Speaker 3 (29:52):
I think there's a lot of pressure on a lot
of these teams, especially in the preseason. When you think
high level pressure in the NFL, you think the first
week of the preseason, and you need somebody that's going
to be calm, cool and collected. And Mike McDaniel looks
like he's been kicking a hacky sack around and smoking
weed for three months straight getting ready for this matchup.
That's the type of guy you want. That's a type
(30:12):
of demeanor you want on the sidelines. I'll take the
Finns plus the two and a half.
Speaker 9 (30:17):
Late game tonight Denver at Arizona, Denver five and a
half point favorites.
Speaker 1 (30:23):
That's a big line, Yes, Keith, I think Cole McCoy
gets the start for the Arizona Cardinals. I believe Russell
Wilson is starting. Aren't the Broncos plane of starters? Did
I see that somewhere? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (30:37):
I think so, but I obviously limited time.
Speaker 1 (30:41):
Yeah yeah, again, just too many points, five and a
half points. I'll go ahead and take Arizona the home
dog here and the five half points. Not saying they win,
but I think it's it could be relatively close.
Speaker 3 (30:55):
Yeah, listen, I'm gonna take the Denver Broncos here five
and a half point favorites. The Arizona Cardinals stink. I mean,
they've got a coach who makes weird noises when he
meets his players.
Speaker 1 (31:04):
For what of those noises sound.
Speaker 3 (31:05):
Like poo poo pew one more times poo poo. Routes shots, ye, shots,
So I'm gonna go with that. And I also think
that Scottsdale is a fun place. I think, you know, Phoenix,
all those places, fun areas to have a cocktail in.
And you know, Sean Payton's probably gonna be feeling pretty good.
(31:26):
So I'll take the Broncos minus five and a half.
Speaker 9 (31:29):
On to Saturday, we got Colts visiting the Buffalo Bills.
Speaker 10 (31:32):
Colts are three and a half point favorites.
Speaker 1 (31:36):
Oh boy, I'm gonna go with the I'm gonna go
with the Bills here. Take the three and a half points.
I think they'll be able to win this one outright.
Speaker 3 (31:47):
I'm gonna go with the Buffalo Bills as well too.
Anthony Richardson getting the start. He's a rookie. We already
talked about Sean McDermott and one to be better against
the spread records. As far as current coaches go, I'm
going to take the Buffalo Bills here. I also think that,
you know, this is a little bit of like this,
This is what needs to happen. Just from the standpoint
(32:10):
that Jim Mersey screwed over Frank Reich. Frank Reich's a
former Buffalo Bill. I think that's applicable to this matchup
here in twenty twenty three, in the first week of
the preseason. So I'll take the Bills and sitting there
getting three and a half points at.
Speaker 9 (32:22):
Home, we got Titans that bears. Bears are three and
a half point favorites on that home.
Speaker 4 (32:27):
Give me the Titans.
Speaker 1 (32:29):
I don't know. Someone tells me like they'll be more
competitive than people are giving them credits. So I'll take
the three and a half points here. But you've got
Mike Willis proven herself. Will Levis is trying to find
his way up in that depth chart. Obviously, both are
I want it can hurt you with their legs. I
don't think Field is going to play much of this one.
So I'm gonna go ahead and go at the Tennessee
Titans get three.
Speaker 3 (32:47):
And a half on the road, Yeah, I'm going to
go with the Titans as well too. The Bears are
too distracted. They're worried about.
Speaker 5 (32:52):
Which logo they want to put on their helmet or
which one is going to be their main logo.
Speaker 3 (32:56):
I think that their priorities are set in completely the
wrong places. Give me Mike Rabel and the Tennessee Titans
getting three and a half points on the road at
Soldier Field, which they can't decide whether or not they
want to tear down or not.
Speaker 10 (33:08):
Next up, Jets at Panthers. Panthers are three and a
half point favorites.
Speaker 4 (33:12):
Land the three and a half with the Carolina Panthers.
Speaker 1 (33:15):
You're not gonna see Rogers this one, I don't think.
But I think maybe you'll see a little bit of
Bryce Young. Either way, this is a better Carolina team
than people are giving them credits.
Speaker 4 (33:23):
So I'll lay the three and a half points here.
Speaker 3 (33:25):
Yeah, I'm gonna go with Carolina as well too. I
think Carolina obviously, weather it's been an issue there a.
Carolina feels like a team a dealing. They had a
better practice than the Jets did reportedly a couple of
days ago. I think they're in the Jets head. I
think this is really concerning for the New York Jets.
Speaker 2 (33:40):
I think they know.
Speaker 3 (33:40):
It, and plus it would be better for hard Knocks
that the Jets went out and just got blow torched
in their second appearance in the preseason.
Speaker 9 (33:47):
So I'm gonna go with Carolina. We got the Jags
at Dallas. Jags or four point favorites.
Speaker 1 (33:54):
This is an interesting one. I feel like again, Dallas
getting four at home. It's not like this roster is
a deep and you know, find I said decent my starters.
So I'll go ahead and take the Boys and the
four points. I think they'll be able to do a
little something against the Jags.
Speaker 3 (34:10):
Dougie p loves nothing more than beating the Cowboys former
Eagles coach. There's still remnants of that there. It's still
that's still pumping through his veins. I'm gonna take Jacksonville
minus four at Dallas.
Speaker 4 (34:24):
All Right.
Speaker 10 (34:24):
We got Philly at Baltimore. Baltimore's four and a half
point favorites.
Speaker 1 (34:28):
Okay, remember what this line was earlier in the week, Yes,
six and a half points. Yep, it's been bet down
now of.
Speaker 4 (34:34):
Four and a half.
Speaker 1 (34:35):
Jonas, I think we should take credit for that, yes,
because what was our advice earlier in the week. If
you saw this game, you should have taken Philly the
six and a half points. It's now down to four
and a half. I'm still taking Philadelphia. I think this
is gonna be a close one. I'll take the four
and a half points. Two evenly matched teams. We'll see
how this one scores off.
Speaker 3 (34:56):
Look, you know, Nick, Sirianni, you mean to tell me
that somebody hasn't gotten it in the air and said, hey,
by the way, they haven't lost in X amount of weeks.
Speaker 4 (35:03):
He's gonna have the he's gonna have the redouts.
Speaker 5 (35:05):
Yeah, all right, Sirianni, it is. We'll both take Philly Lee.
Speaker 9 (35:09):
Late game on Saturday, the battle for La Chargers versus
the Rams. Rams are technically the home team.
Speaker 10 (35:14):
Three point favorites.
Speaker 1 (35:16):
I'll take the Chargers, give you the three points. I
just feel like they've got a deeper roster too. Again,
I know you're not gonna see the starters and all
that out there, but I feel like they're at a
better spot right now.
Speaker 3 (35:27):
I mean, can I bet on Taylor Show? Can I
just bet Swift instead? Like or Monster Jam coming up?
Speaker 5 (35:35):
It's just awful.
Speaker 3 (35:36):
Yeah, I guess so now I'm gonna go with the Chargers.
Screw it, screw the Rams. I'll go with the Chargers
plus three.
Speaker 10 (35:43):
All right.
Speaker 9 (35:44):
Two games on Sunday, Chiefs at Saints, Saints three point
favorites at home.
Speaker 1 (35:48):
Well, apparently Andy Reid's got a bad record of the preseason.
I would have thought that sets Saints Land three at home.
But the team that's got a deep roster, I think
the fans will show out to the might be a
little bit of a home field environment there, So I'll
go ahead and lay the three points here the Saints.
Speaker 3 (36:04):
Yeah, I'm gonna take the Saints as well too, Dennis Allen,
Derek Carr. There's some Raider blood pumping through there as
well too. John Gruden's making some visits and not getting.
Speaker 5 (36:15):
Paid for it.
Speaker 3 (36:16):
They're sick and tired of be in the dormat to
the Kansas City Chiefs. I think that too, is applicable
here in twenty twenty three, in the first week of
the preseason. I'll take New Orleans minus three.
Speaker 1 (36:25):
You know, a flies out of the radar two. Javis
Winston's their backup that sous. You get the bulk of
the Reps.
Speaker 4 (36:31):
She should tear it up.
Speaker 1 (36:32):
And on top of that, Jake Hanner could play. He
was their fourth round pick. He'll get a lot of
burn times.
Speaker 4 (36:36):
So I think even like the second third string quarterbacks,
we're going to do well.
Speaker 9 (36:40):
For last game Niners at the Raiders. Niners five four
point favorites on the road.
Speaker 1 (36:47):
This is one where I'm gonna have to I'm gonna
have to lay the four points here with the.
Speaker 4 (36:51):
Forty nine ers.
Speaker 1 (36:53):
I mean, whether it's Trey Lance, Sam Darnold, whoever's coming
in there, I just think they're gonna be able to,
you know, scheme up Las Vegas.
Speaker 4 (37:00):
I know it's preseason, you'll be able to get it out.
Speaker 1 (37:03):
Though.
Speaker 5 (37:03):
Yeah, I'm gonna take the Raiders.
Speaker 3 (37:04):
I just think that walk to top Golf is way
too far for some of those forty nine er players.
This feels like advantage Raiders, especially in those conditions. The
Niners feel like they're all about you know, wineries and
you know Levi Stadium and stepping over sleeping bags and downtown.
Like I just I feel like this is better set
for the Raiders and better set for the Raiders getting
(37:25):
four points.
Speaker 5 (37:27):
So there it is.
Speaker 3 (37:28):
That is your comprehensive breakdown of the first weekend of
the NFL preseason. Well, we'll be sure to recap how
we did on our preseason bets, yes, coming up after
the weekend.
Speaker 5 (37:40):
I can't believe we just did that.
Speaker 3 (37:42):
It is Two Pros and a Cup of Joe Here

Two pros and a cup of Joe Fox Sports Radio
Brady Quinn, Jonas Knox with you here coming up top
of next hour less than ten minutes from now. We
are going to talk about a relationship in the NFL
between coach and quarterback got a little bit sideways late
last season. Both spoke on that you will hear from
them coming up here a little bit over ten minutes
from now on FSR. Before we get to this story
(39:27):
out of the NFL as well, too, want to let
you know we are brought to you by Progressive Insurance.
Progressive makes fundling easy and affordable. Get a multi policy
discount by combining your motorcycle, RV, boat, ATV and more
all your protection in one place, moundle and save it
Progressive dot Com. So the NFL has expanded its direct
to consumer offering with NFL network and red zone channels
(39:48):
that they're going to make the red Zone to They're
going to add that to its NFL Plus subscription offering,
so they're going to be able to instead of last
year where you could get replays and a couple of
things here or there, now you're going to get the
red Zone package. It's going to go up a couple
of bucks a month, but it's just another transition for
the league trying to get to consumers. So if you
(40:08):
don't want to do the YouTube TV and buy every
single game, at least the red zones now an option
with your NFL Plus subscription.
Speaker 4 (40:16):
I love this move.
Speaker 1 (40:17):
I mean for many reasons for starters the NFL. Hopefully
I think they realized this and hopefully people who are
buying it understand this, Like they're trying to know, they're
trying to know more about their consumer and then so
by basically putting everything under the NFL Plus umbrella, they're
going to be getting so much more data, so much
more from the people who are invested into the league,
(40:39):
and I think it's going to help the NFL provide
them more curated content for.
Speaker 4 (40:44):
Them that they're going to appeal to them for their.
Speaker 1 (40:47):
Team, et cetera. But I just love the fact that
it's accessible. There's been times when it's been really hard
to kind of piece together all the things that you
want from the NFL.
Speaker 4 (40:56):
Now it's under one umbrella. They've simplified it.
Speaker 1 (40:58):
They want direct consumer, there's no middleman involved, and I
love the fact that they've done this for fans and
for everyone involved.
Speaker 3 (41:05):
And there's a lot of people that just would rather
watch red zone than actually get the package. Get straight
to the point. Let's see who's going to score and
who's not. If you're a fantasy football player, it makes sense.
I don't know who thought of the red zone, but
job well done because it's worked out. Wonders for the league.
Speaker 1 (41:20):
Right of applause, Run of applause with the NFL. Yeah,
this is a good thing.
Speaker 4 (41:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (41:27):
