Jeff Schwartz, how you doing this morning, buddy? I swear
it feels earlier than it is right now. Are you
a night owl or a morning person? There?
Speaker 3 (01:07):
I am neither.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
Really.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
I mean I go to bed like I I have
to be a night hour during football season because I
live on the East Coast and so I am up
quite late on a lot of nights watching football, but
I don't sleep past I don't know, six thirty seven.
I mean my ideal sleepage would be like ten to six,
six o'clock something like that would be good probably for Wow.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
Really, I'm more of a go to bed at like
three and wake up at maybe nine.
Speaker 3 (01:37):
Ish or ten three am.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
Yeah, oh yeah, that's normally how I get down.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
Wow, good for you. No, I mean I you don't
have children, though, so it's right. I have to wake
up and take my kids to school like my day begins.
So I think maybe one day, if you get yourself
some little Brian nose running around, you might change your
your sleep. Coud there a little bit? Yeah? Yeah, no,
I it uh you know, I'm I'm I'm white. I'm
(02:04):
ready to go my coffee. We're talking football. I mean,
what's better than that in life? And hopefully Brian, you
took my advice for the preseason and you took my
email I sent you with the coaches records against the.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
Spread, and how did it turn out with defensive minded
head coaches?
Speaker 3 (02:18):
I am six and one in the preseason six and one. Yeah, yeah,
it's not a be all end all, because you have
to make sure, like, for example, the Bills played the
Steelers and Sean McDermott was thirteen six against the spread,
but so was my Tom was really going against the spread too,
So that's a no wager. It's no wager. I actually faded.
I actually faded the Ravens this week.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
I played how'd you feel when they were down eight late?
Speaker 3 (02:42):
Well, I was a little worried. Yeah, it worked out
to take the Commanders there plus the three. I thought
it was really interesting the reaction to that game, right
because that was Monday Night football. It was the first
national telecast of a of A of A game this year,
right because all the other telecasts have been the home feed,
(03:05):
right that has been sharing an NFL network, And this
one felt bigger. Right. It was the streak, the twenty
four game streak. It was the first game with the
new owner for the Commanders, who doesn't know how to
shake hands, obviously, And it was in a big ESPN
buck ach min mona football game. And I can't recall
(03:26):
ever feeling that way watching a preseason game work. I
was hooked to watching the game, right, maybe because it
was the streak, because the players all seem to really
care about it. There was an energy and it's really
not many rivalries in pro sports, but this is a rivalry.
Right Washington Baltimore don't like each other. I was pretty hooked, man, Like.
I can't even recall like an NBA regular season game
(03:49):
where I was like, man, this is some good action.
But this game, man, I was all about it. It was.
It was. I didn't think i'd care that much, but
it's I think it's what sets the NFL apart from
everyone else.
Speaker 2 (03:59):
Yeah, it was. It really was a great game, and
for the preseason. That was a take I heard Kylehurd
went with and it made a lot of sense where
the NFL showed a lot more care in a preseason
game than a lot of not all NBA players, But
there are a lot of games where, due to load management,
they're just taking a midweek game off for the second
(04:21):
night of a back to back, and I get it right,
where a lot of times the NBA doesn't treat the
regular season as much as we saw the Ravens and Commanders.
Still feels weird to say the Commanders treated a preseason game. Yeah,
I want you to rate this. I don't think This
is a hot take at all, but some people seem to.
If you think about Sam Howell, who played well in
(04:43):
that game, mostly against backups against the Ravens. But Sam
Howell played well. And this past week, Sam Howell was
named QB one. Also Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson was named
QB one. So you've got a former fourth overall pick Richardson,
You've got a former fifth round pick in Howell. I
(05:04):
think Sam Howell is gonna be better this season than
Anthony Richardson is going to be. And if you look,
there's a couple of bullet point reasons why Sam Howell
is way more experienced. Sam Howell in college threw over
eleven hundred passes. You have Anthony Richardson under four hundred.
There's a huge difference experience wise in college. You look
(05:27):
at Sam Howell, he's not a rookie. He started a
game last year. Actually we were together in Cincinnati for that, Jeff,
when Sam Howell started against the Cowboys at the very
end of the season. They won that game. So he's
got an NFL start under his belt. I like the
weapons around him better than what Anthony Richardson has, at
least this first season, and I just think that he's
(05:49):
a more precise quarterback. I don't see Anthony Richardson just
hitting the ground running. You got all the Jonathan Taylor
drama going on. So I think Howell is going to
have a better season this year. Do you think that's logical?
Are a little bit on the hot take ish crazy side?
Speaker 3 (06:08):
Well, look, I mean the Colts, you know, felt that
Richardson's so ready for the season. He had to take
any reps in the last preseason game, so obviously they
feel like they feel like he's ready to go. That
blows my mind, by the way. Yeah, you know, Sam
how is interesting projection, right because most franchise quarterbacks there
obviously are outliers, right, are cousins of Dak Russell Wilson
(06:30):
are drafted in the first or second round. That's that's
the majority of the NFL. And even Jalen hurts the
SECD round drafting. Right, It's a majority of the NFL
are players drafted in those in you know, in that
in that range. And historically we would say, yeah, Sam
Howe probably not going to be a franchise quarterback, right,
good quarterback maybe average, but franchise probably not However, as
(06:54):
you said, though you know the the comparison to Anthony
Richardson and how that he plays this year, I think
the bars are different though, right because Anthony Richardson to
me this year is like whatever you get from him
is good. You know, you have a quarterback who has
what four hundred passes total in Florida, three hundred something
(07:16):
in total of Florida, And for Richardson to be quote
good this year, he just has to end this season
better than he started this season. Right in Washington, I
think they have a legit playoff roster. I think you
agree with me on that, right, Like the roster's really good,
and Ron Rivera is on the sort of the hot
seat with a new owner, Eric b Enemy, There's a
(07:38):
lot of attention to it. There's a different level of
success required. I think for Sam Howe than Anthony Richardson,
I think both can sort of hit their marks. But
as far as the better overall quarterback this year, it
probably will be Sam Howe. But there gonna be moments
of Anthony Richardson this year where you're like, oh boy,
I see that talent, right, I see the physical ability,
and the Colts have been honest about it. I know
(08:00):
you do. You know you do radio and media in Indianapolis.
You've heard the quotes like they're like, yeah, he might
be ten of twenty three for one hundred and five yards,
but he might rush for another one hundred and thirty
and we'll take that. So I think that the bars
are different for them. For what is a good season
by I think samhow will have the better sort of
quarterback season.
Speaker 2 (08:23):
I think he will. I think he's the more precise quarterback.
That's the thing with Anthony Richardson is, look, man, I'm
not expecting a finished product out of the gate. It's
gonna take some time. It might take Josh Allen might
be a good example where it was really a season
and a half before he really started to put it together.
Speaker 3 (08:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
Yeah, he started to get a lot better at the
end of his second season, but it took a while.
We're talking a lot of starts for him to finally
start looking good. It might be like that with Anthony Richardson.
But the thing I can't get over with Anthony Richardson is, look,
he'll have some highlight plays, there's no doubt he's a
special talent, but then he might miss a hitch route
(09:05):
badly and miss a third and three layup. And that's
the thing, is the highlight stuff. It doesn't just wipe
away the layups that are missed. You could lose games
for just failing to convert one third and four, you
know what I mean? Like, yeah, So I'm it's interesting
how the bar of expectations is gonna change with Anthony
(09:25):
Richardson right now, You're right, it's almost like, hey, he
had one good throw that was pretty awesome, right, and
that seems to be it. It's gonna ramp up pretty
quickly where that's not good enough. You know, you got
to hit the layups too. So I want to see
how the expectations change as his rookie season starts to
play out.
Speaker 3 (09:45):
Look, I would imagine that week one, I believe they're
hosting Jacksonville, right, you know, he has us as you mentioned,
he's a couple of those throws that aren't great, and
then by you know, by week eight, you would hope
that the simple stuff he does simple right, he makes happen.
And then by week seventeen you see that, you know,
that second layer of being a passer continues to develop.
(10:06):
Like to me, as I said, it's a year when
you want to see that growth from week one to
week seventeen, and knowing that he also has the legs
and the ability to get out of bad situations. For
so many years the Colts have had quarterbacks that could
not move right and that we're not able to help
the offensive line get out of bad situations. The last
(10:29):
one was Andrew Luck obviously, and unfortunately you know that,
you know he got hurt, right, he got hurt too much.
Richardson's ability to do that, I think changes what his
season can be. But your point, yeah, he's only again
four hundred passes. That's it, that's nothing. I mean, Josh
Allen had had multiple years of being a quarterback before,
(10:52):
like you know, before we went to Buffalo, We've Trey
lance is the best example probably right, Trey lance onlands
like four hundred past attempt in his entire career. He
like you know what I mean, like like that is
the energy is very young, he's very raw. Now. The
benefit for him is that he's with the coach and
Shane Steichen, who has worked with a young Jalen Hurts,
(11:14):
who worked with a young Justin Herbert. He has done
a good job of developing these quarterback He's with a
coach that I think will get the most from him.
I do wonder. I don't know if this matters so
much in his younger career. But like his owner is
nut is nuts and playing with an owner who is
as sort of I control the wrong word, but just
(11:40):
like he's just wild man, like he just says stuff
and he you know, he he keeps saying I don't
want to be my dad. I'm like, but buddy, have
you looked at the mirror recently? Like that's not gonna
help him. I don't think. I'm not as it's concerned
about Jonathan Taylor not being there. I think Jonathan Taylor
does play this year. There's too much money. It evolved
to not did not play this year? Like you said
(12:02):
with Chris Jones in Kansas City, like they're all gonna
play this year. Johnathan is not being traded. Who's trained
for Jonathan Taylor?
Speaker 2 (12:09):
Brian, Yeah, no one. I know it's right where they
won one. I keep seeing injury.
Speaker 3 (12:16):
It's so funny. I keep seeing the people that are
suggesting where you oh the bills. Yeah, Buffalo is gonna
gonna trade for him and then pay him fifteen million
dollars a year. Like, have you looked at Buffalo? They
don't value running backs ever. And you know, I saw
a Bears yesterday. What why would the Bears do that?
I there's not a great home for him. So I
(12:39):
think Richardson will have a to your point, he'll have
a season where it's like, yeah, some good throws, some
bath throws, some running the football. Sam Haw has a
better chance in a more stable environment with with Ron Rivera,
with a new ownership, with some excitement in that building,
with you know, a veteran offensive line group, a veteran
you know, receiving and running back group, to have the
(13:00):
better season as a passer.
Speaker 2 (13:02):
Hey man, reps matter. We know talent matters and Anthony
Richardson has it, but experience matters. Reps matter, and when
Sam Howell has We're bordering like three to one in
terms of passing attempts in college, Like, that's just a
lot more. You mentioned Josh Allen. I looked it up.
Josh Allen at Wyoming had six hundred and forty nine
(13:24):
passing attempts, which is okay, it's way better than three
ninety three, right, So there's just gonna be growing pains
with Anthony Richardson. I left when he was named QB
one last week. His reaction was this, Honestly, I was
shocked QB one. Whoa that's what he said. Yeah, he
was shocked that he was named QB one. So that's
(13:47):
what that's not ideal either.
Speaker 3 (13:50):
Why why would it be shot? He's the number, he's
attracted fourth overall. Yeah, that happened.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
Maybe he didn't, you know, light it up against the
Bills in the preseason. I don't know why. But that's
that's not what you want to hear. You know, it's like, yeah,
it's go time, let's do this. You know. It was
like I was shocked, Really, QB one stiken, Okay, I
guess let's do it. That's wild right there.
Speaker 3 (14:14):
That is uh yeah, that's crazy. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (14:18):

me here because I know you're completely in football mode
right here, as am I. But I'm gonna throw a
basketball comparison at you. Okay, So all this stuff with
James Harden going on right now, yeah, where he's been
(16:42):
fined one hundred thousand dollars because he called the seventy
six Ers president Darryl Moury a liar, and could there
be an Aaron Rodgers comparison here? So think about this
with James Harden, who many would say has been a
selfish guy. We saw fat Harden in Houston who was
trying to force his way out there.
Speaker 3 (17:02):
Right.
Speaker 2 (17:02):
Yes, he's been more of a me guy. Last season
with the Sixers, this was a brand new hardin. This
was you know what, It's less about me, It's about
the team. Let me lead the league in assists, let
me set up other guys, let me leave fifteen million
dollars on the table. It's about them. It's not about me.
And now we're we're seeing that honeymoon is over. Now
(17:25):
Harden is back to you know what, I went out,
I'm gonna play hardball. Darryl mory is a liar. I'm
not playing for the Sixers again. And so if you
think about that compared to Aaron Rodgers, Aaron Rodgers would
be described by a lot of people as more of
a selfish guy, maybe more about him than the team.
(17:46):
Think about last year with the Packers, Jeff, where he
has all these young receivers and he's like we don't
need to throw in the offseason, you know. But now
with the Jets, this is team Rogers. This is the
guy who leaves thirty five million dollars on the table.
This is the guy who's been described as patient, almost
nurturing with the young guys who maybe run the wrong
(18:08):
routes and all of that. Similar to Harden. I wonder
if Rogers reverts back to what we've seen throughout most
of his career, which is a little prickly, a little
bit like in his own world. Right, do you think
that we see Rogers revert back to non team guy,
(18:28):
at least not the epitome of a team guy over there.
Speaker 3 (18:32):
The second they lose two games in a row and
he is getting battered and bruised because offensive line can't
block anyone. I think his offensive lot will be fine
if they can get some guys back from injury, He's
absolutely gonna turn into that. Yeah, Winning and losing plays
a big role in the attitude of players, right, and
in Philly, they haven't had the kind of the totality
(18:54):
of success in the postseason that I'm sure James Harden
would like, Right, And Roger expects a lot. He has
won a lot of football games in Green Bay, and
I think that if they don't win the level that
he expects, and part of that is because he gets
hit a lot and he is not he is not
playing quite the same as he has in the past.
I think we're gonna get the normal Rogers. But the
(19:17):
difference is I think obviously, you know, there's been more
overall success. Who's that more like, Hey, Rogers had more
success than Harden, right, would you say? Because that just
in general? So I think that is, you know, Rogers
is a little different than Harder in that sense. But yeah,
the drugtle factor for sure. I love he got to
(19:39):
find one hundred I an even see the number for that.
I know he got fined one hundred grand.
Speaker 2 (19:44):
Wow, Yeah, yeah, that's h And again this is you know,
that's the other sub category here is it's worth it.
Sometimes it's worth it to break the rules and listen.
Speaker 3 (19:58):
What's he getting from this though?
Speaker 2 (20:00):
As far as what he's trying to force his way
out of Philing?
Speaker 3 (20:03):
But what but is going public and being fi one
hundred thousand dollars that's gonna get him out of Philly.
Speaker 2 (20:10):
It's one of the steps that ultimately will get him
out of Philly. Is this is just the beginning. Harden's
sitting there where he's hearing these Sixers comments of we
expect him to report for training camp and be a
key part of this championship pursuit, and he's over there like,
did you see what I did in Houston? You really
think that's gonna happen? Okay, all right, this is just
(20:32):
phase one of phase five. If that's what it takes
for him to force his holdouts? What's that are there?
Speaker 3 (20:40):
NBA holdout? We've seen the hold ends, right, I mean
you mentioned it right right?
Speaker 2 (20:44):
Well, Ben Simmons, Ben Simmons didn't report to the Sixers.
He was just like, yeah, trade me, and he didn't report.
He went there, made practice awkward, didn't play again, and
they eventually moved him for Harden. They traded Ben Simmons
for James Harden. So look, man, the players, it's the
opposite of the running back market. You know, Jonathan Taylor
(21:05):
doesn't have the leverage. Jonathan Taylor, the Colts running back,
doesn't hold the cards in the NBA. It's a completely
different ballgame.
Speaker 3 (21:12):
It is. I am curious though, if we get to
point the NBA when it is treated more like the NFL,
where ownership general managers just say you know what, no, no, right,
we're not we're not we're not getting ready you right,
we paid you, we're not getting ready you. If you
want to sit down and not make your money, be
my guest. But you're not, you're not setting out.
Speaker 2 (21:35):
Yeah. I just the new and improved versions of James
Harden last season short lived Aaron Rodgers this season, to
your point, Jeff could be very very short lived. So
almost like the guy you know that's cleaning up his act.
You know he's gonna be there for the family. He's
gonna you know, he he's gonna be more responsible, and
(21:58):
for a few months he really is. But it's like, man,
that's a lot of change, that's a lot how long
this is gonna last? That's how I feel with Aaron Rodgers. Man,
it's one thing to be kind and gentle in week
two of the preseason. You know, let's fast forward to
week ten after they've lost three of four whatever. The
situation is a lot harder than man, lot harder.
Speaker 3 (22:18):
It's also worth pointing out that, you know, I know
that people say the New York media and they kind
of pooh pooh that dude. I went from Kansas City
and we were eleven and five that season. Any reads
first season in twenty thirteen to the Giant to twenty fourteen, dude,
it is a whole different animal New York. You know,
(22:38):
in Kansas City, you might have you know, four to
ten regulars in the locker room, right and for those
who don't know, I think, I think it's back to
this now, the open locker room. Right right after practice,
you are in the locker room and the reporters are
just walking through. It's a little awkward at first as
a young player, but you get used to it and
you know, yeah, you have let's you know, you have
(23:00):
the couple maybe radio guys, a newspaper guy, and you know,
an ESPN team guy, and like a fan blog website.
Like that's it. Right in New York, man, you have
like fifty people every day, Like you have this enormous
amount of individuals who are at your practice every day.
There's more interest in New York and obviously in the market,
(23:22):
there's more media members and they're trying to find things
to write it. I remember one time I was talking
to our left guard at the time, justin Pugh about
something and it just me and him were talking. It
wasn't like we were having a hardan with a reporter
and they reported the conversation that we were having. Wow,
it's it's a different I gave one time at the
(23:44):
Super Bowl radio row. I was it was the year
my brother was a free agent between the He went
to the Chiefs eventually, and they asked me a question.
Two reporters asked me about my brother okay, where I
was at the same point, okay, and they wrote two
different stories. One story was Jeff Schwartz doesn't like his brother,
(24:05):
doesn't want to play with him, and the other was
like it was like, yeah, there's a right tackle with
the Giants that the Schwartz likes playing with. He might
you know, him and his brother personality wise might not
fit together. And it was like it was one where
like it was like, I hate my brother, I don't
want to play with him. But I said, like, look,
I said, we have a right tackle, Marshall new House.
I like playing with Marshall. He's currently under contract. I'm
not going to talk about like my brother taking his place,
(24:27):
you know what I mean. Like I was like and
my brother and I I don't think would play well
next to each other essentially, which is true. We can
ask both of us it would happen, and one guy wrote,
I hate my brother, and one guy wrote what I
actually said, it's just a different market there, and that
stuff wears on players. And when you start losing, and
when you start having issues and you and you're getting
hit each week and you're playing a tough schedule and
(24:49):
you're not performing at the quite the level you are,
that stuff is going to grind on you. And Aaron
Rodgers had not experienced that to level he will experience
that in New York.
Speaker 2 (24:58):
That is so crazy, man, how your words are completely
not only taken out of context, but twisted into something
that's totally wrong. That'd be like you saying I kind
of like working with No on the radio show, and
some reporter twisting that into Jeff Schwartz doesn't want to
do with his brother. That's it would be like.
Speaker 3 (25:16):
Well, it would be like if me and you were
working together and my brother became a radio free agent
and they're like, I got to it with your brother,
and I was like, well, I like working with Brian
a lot.
Speaker 2 (25:24):
That's what I'm saying. Yeah, he doesn't want to do
radio with his brother.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
And it was like it was like it was like
what I'm my parents called me. I was like, no,
that's not what I said. Read the other.
Speaker 2 (25:34):
Article, Jeff, you hate Mitchell. What happened?
Speaker 3 (25:40):
Yeah, So like that's that's the difference in the markets.
And like I think, I think sometimes if I get overblown,
but yeah, I just don't know if if Rogers can
hold out this, you know this, like now, the one
thing I will defend Rogers about because I think it
gets a little overblown is outside of two players that
(26:01):
talk a lot in the media, everyone I know that
played for Rogers with Rogers loves him as a teammate.
And you can tell with hard knocks, you can tell
like they like him as a teammate, like that, the
prickliness and the things that the way he acts. Sometimes
the media does not affect his relationship with his with
his teammates, who again like him like they like playing
(26:21):
with Aaron Rodgers. That's been I think a little bit
misreported in the media over the years because there's very
loud voices in the minority that say he's not a
good teammate. But everyone I've talked to what they really
like him as a teammate. I like him as a player.
Speaker 2 (26:35):
The end of your first year, Discover credit cards automatically

you earned doubled. Seriously see terms and check it out
for yourself at discover dot com. Slash match. Okay, so
uh Mac Jones Patriots quarterback here, Jeff He was talking
about his goals for this season. He says, keeping it
(26:56):
loose and going out there and slinging it. Going back
to the Alabama Mack. When I'm in the right headspace
and I can go out there and let it fly
and not think too much and go play football. That's
what he's looking at there, and if we get it,
you don't want to overthink it, right, But man, Alabama, Mack.
You think about the talent he was surrounded by at Alabama.
(27:21):
Where you're thinking about Dolphins receiver Jalen Waddle. You've got
Eagles receiver Davonte Smith, Davante Smith's former Heisman winner, right,
and then you had the one two Brian Robinson, Najie Harris.
You had a ton of talent there at Alabama. That's
not the case with the Patriots. Here. So do you
think this makes sense to cut it loose considering the
(27:44):
lack of talent he's surrounded by there in New England.
Speaker 3 (27:49):
Well, the thing that mac Jones must feel great about
is having a real offense coordinator. Now sure you know
last year he rolled with Matt Patricia and Joe Judge,
who I'm not sure anyone would trust them to do
anything in football, and let alone call an offense. And
so he must feel great having a real offense corder.
(28:10):
I think the Patriots are a sleeper team this year
played a very tough division. It probably makes them less
likely to be a sleeper team because of that. Of
that reason, like, I don't think they're gonna win twelve games,
but I think they're gonna be tough to beat each week.
With an offensive line that's okay, They're okay. The weapons,
as you mentioned, you know, not always great. But Matt
(28:33):
Jones remember they made the playoffs two years ago when
he had a real offense, like a real offense corder
and a reel like Joss me had, like a real
offensive identity. The defense last year was really good, Brian,
like end of the season, I think number one in
the last half of the season in efficiency. Then they
added one of the top corners in the draft in
Christian Zales. They're gonna be really good. I think I
(28:55):
know why. I know why the excitement is there for
mac Jones.
Speaker 2 (29:03):
I like that, you know, it's basically their season win total, right,
like you're saying they're going to be better than a
seven and a half team, things like.
Speaker 3 (29:14):
That, even by far, that number to me is disrespectful.
Speaker 2 (29:18):
Yeah, that is. I think they're just going to be
annoying where you think about the talent in that division,
the talent in the AFC, where if you're let's just
take the Jets and you're like, all right, we got
to play the Bills week one, and then maybe you
get the Patriots afterward. You know, sometime in the season.
It might work out that way, and I think they
(29:39):
could be one of those annoying teams that's gonna sneak
up on some squads where it sounds crazy to say this,
but the Patriots are not one of the top teams,
and so I think there are going to be some
teams that are not as focused and not as ready
to play a Bill Belichick Patriots team as you once
(30:00):
when they had Brady and they were a top flight squad.
There's just so many better teams in the AFC. I
think that is gonna help them win a few games
this season, because it's not like they're gonna take them lightly.
It's just that's not a let's circle this game type
contest when you're facing the Patriots this year, that can
actually help them win a few games. You see it
(30:20):
that way.
Speaker 3 (30:20):
That's how I see it, that the offense to help
them win a few games.
Speaker 2 (30:24):
No that to the Patriots. They're not the Bills, They're
not the Chiefs, they're not the Bengals. It's like it's
the Patriots. I'm not saying teams are gonna be sleepwalking
against them, but it's just not one of those games
that it's like we gotta be ready, we got to
be focused this week.
Speaker 3 (30:39):
This is a.
Speaker 2 (30:40):
Patriots I think that is going to help them win
a few games because we know they're gonna be ultimately prepared.
I think some of their opponents at times this season
they're not gonna be as ready for that particular game
as the Patriots will be.
Speaker 3 (30:56):
I am with you on that, you know, I think
to look at it on their schedule and think it's
sort of like a down week like those weeks because
I'm trying to pull up like like a schedule. Like,
let's say that, so the Dolphins have them a week two, right,
have you memorized your Dolphins schedule yet?
Speaker 2 (31:15):
So Chargers, Yeah, So it's like.
Speaker 3 (31:17):
Chargers, Patriots, Broncos, Bills.
Speaker 2 (31:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (31:20):
You know they're gonna focus in the first month, and
they're mentally in the Chargers and at the Bills right
and right like and and the Patriots game is like, oh, well,
we're going to New England. It's much better actually to
go there in week two than is to go there
in week sixteen.
Speaker 2 (31:32):
Which look at this too, Jeff. Think about this week
seven through nine for the Dolphins at the Eagles on
Sunday night, Patriots home game at the Chiefs in Germany,
you know what I mean. Like you've got the Eagles
and the Chiefs on the road, bookending a home game
against the Patriots. That could be a good spot for
the Patriots.
Speaker 3 (31:53):
Absolutely. So, I think the Patriot are gonna stick up
on teams this year. I really think they're They're they're
gonna get at the way they play football, and they're
gonna people are gonna be I think surprised when they
play as well as they do this season. I'm high
on them again, not like.
Speaker 2 (32:10):
Not not twelve and five high, But I.
Speaker 3 (32:13):
Don't think so. But you know, every game they're sort
of in it. You know, it's a field goal touchdown game.
Speaker 2 (32:19):
Yeah, I could see a nine and eight maybe pushing
the limits of a ten and seven season something like that.
It's a loaded conference in division, but yeah, I think
they can be sneaky good and and Mac he needs
more talent around him on the field, there's no doubt.
But you said it. Having Bill O'Brien there is a
much much better spot for him than he was surrounded
(32:41):
by coaching wise, with the the defensive coordinator and special
teams brain trust as the offensive guys in Matt Patricia
and Joe Judge. That was crazy, Hey, Coming up next
on Two Pros and a Cup of Joe Live from
the Tireck dot Com studios, is this team trying to
trade a player or do the opposite. I'm Brian No,

(34:20):
piece this together. Nothing new just yet, but it's early
on a Wednesday to wake up in a mood. Just
brace for impact, man, you never know. But the latest
with Jonathan Taylor the Colts running back. It was just
a couple of weeks ago that emphatically Jim Irsay was saying, no,
(34:41):
we're not trading this guy. Not happening, no way, know how.
And now the Colts are saying, go ahead, go ahead,
explore a trade, see if you can find one. We
want a first round pick though, or are picks that
add up to being a first first round pick. So
here's the thing, Jeff, It's one of two things. Are
the the Colts really trying to trade Jonathan Taylor or
(35:04):
are they doing the opposite where they say, okay, fine,
go ahead, test the market, see if you can find
a team that's willing to give us one, and we'll
do it, knowing he's not going to find that. And
then maybe kind of like Austin Eckler and the Chargers
or the Chargers said go ahead test the market, and
they're like Oh yeah, what do you know? It's barren crazy? Huh?
And then they worked it out. Do you think the
(35:25):
Colts are trying to do what the Chargers did with
with Austin Eckler over there.
Speaker 3 (35:31):
I think they're doing both. I think if they were
able to get a deal, they'd move off from him.
But let's be fair, if they were able to get
a deal done, it would already have happened, because just
because they say someone's not tradeable does not mean that
that's actually the case. And if someone wanted Jonathan Taylor,
it would already be done. It already done like that.
(35:52):
That's the way this business work. No one's waiting. Like,
let's say you really want him, Let's pick a team.
Let's use Buffalo because they don't have a running back.
Everyone thinks a Buffalo needs a running back. If Sean
mcdermoty and Brandon Bean who's the general manager, head coach,
if they wanted him, they would have already called over
and got him. Like they're not waiting for Jim Ursa
to tell them and give them permission to call. They
(36:14):
would have. They would have talked to Chris Ballad already.
They have already had an idea of what they want
to do with the running back, and the answer is
they don't and they don't want him, and that's why
he's not signed anywhere. And I don't think anyone's gonna
trade for him. I don't think there's gonna be this
big rush of teams training for him. Look if you
give him for if you're Buffalo, if you're a team
(36:36):
that really wants them, and you say, hey, man, yeah,
we'll give you like a fourth round pick, like we'll
give you something. But the other part of this that
is hard, I think is the idea that you have
to you have to have him a deal to you
have to trade for him and then presumably give him
a new contract. So it's a double whammy here, and
they're just not a lot of teams that want to
(36:58):
do that right now. I would hoping that they someone
would give him this sort of deal because I think
that I'm tired of this discussion. I think it's just
running backs have been phased out of the NFL as
far as the value, and we're doing this thing where
we have this argument all the time about what their
value is and it's kind of a pointless argument because
(37:19):
the NFL is determined that they just don't want to
pay these guys. It's not worth it to us to
pay them the money they want, because we can find
solutions that aren't paying a first round running back, aren't
draft drafting a running back. I was hoping the Colts
would just suck it up and do it, because they've
paid as much it pays its day. Is like they
pay Quinn Nelson a bunch of money that's not a
(37:41):
value pay right according to sort of the chart of
what you should pay a certain player. I was hoping
they would just do it so we have this discussion
over with Brian, because it's a point of discussion, like
it's unfortunate the running backs are where they are. It stinks.
I'm an OFFENSI alignment. I play with great running Brian.
I love them, They're great for my career. But if
(38:03):
I'm a team general manager right now in charge of
a team, I'm not paying them either. And I think
that the discussion is kind of tired, and we've had
enough times now and people seem to not understand for
some reason why discussions being had. And I was hoping
they would pay pay Jonathan Taylor and we would just
be done with it and don't have to discuss it anymore.
Speaker 2 (38:22):
Yeah, well it doesn't look like that's going to be
the case. And I just love the Colts man. The
cults are just they're funny. They're funny. You ever look
at maybe like a neighbor and their yard is just
a disaster, the home is a racket, just chaos, and
you're like, they're kind of like a sitcom. You know,
they're fun. They're fun to you know, just to see
(38:44):
how it's going on over there. That's how I feel
about Jim Mersey, where this is just a fiasco and
what we're the place that we're at now. The Colts
all off season has said we're not paying Jonathan Taylor.
We're not giving them a long term extension to see
how we rebounds from the ankle injury last season and
go from there. He's a running back. The market is
(39:06):
what it is. We're not opening up the check BUTK
checkbook to play to pay Jonathan Taylor. That makes sense.
I get that they're prioritizing other positions. We get it, right,
But now they've said we're not paying him, We're gonna
put him on the trading block, knowing another team will
have to pay him. Most will be unwilling to do so.
(39:26):
And how about you give us a first round pick
on top of that? Right if they want it both ways,
they're not willing to pay him, but now they they
need a mystery team who's willing to pay him and
give him a first round pick. That is, that's beautiful
right there, because someone's gonna I'm sorry, No, it's not
definitely not happening. That's just not where the market is
(39:47):
for running backs, man.
Speaker 3 (39:50):
Like I don't just again, I don't dislike them. That is.
That's the case though, there's not there's not that market.
There's not it's not there. It just isn't. And if
you do it, it's just not smart football.
Speaker 2 (40:02):
Yeah, it's uh yeah, but we'll see how it unfolds.
Would you say he begins the year with the Colts
or elsewhere? What's your money on, Oh, he begins the
year with the Colts? You do think so? Yeah, he
very well might. He might. But man with crazy Jim irsay,
who knows that. This is like a stinky betting line
where I'm like, I'm just staying away.
Speaker 3 (40:24):
I'm not trying to bet on anything in this situation.
But surely I think he plays. I think he's not
going to lose out of the money.
Speaker 2 (40:30):
Yeah, all right, come it up next. Will this guy
be gone in just a few years.
