So one of the teams, it's been very interesting to
follow the first couple of weeks of the season. They
actually have a win so far. That's the Pittsburgh Steelers.
They won on Monday night. They got it done against
(01:35):
the Cleveland Browns. Cleveland obviously underwent a significant injury and
a devastating loss to Nick Chubb, who's gone for the year.
There's some conversation Kareem Hunt's already been brought in for
a workout, familiar with Cleveland and familiar with that offense.
He spent a number of years there. But it was
also a performance by the Pittsburgh defense, who scored two
(01:56):
touchdowns there to start the game, and then the Tjy
go ahead and eventual game winning touchdown on the scoop
and score late. That kind of has people looking at
the offensive struggles of the Pittsburgh Steelers, as we discussed
yesterday on the show, and there was some chance fire
Matt Canada, the offensive coordinator. So Mike Tomlin, the head
(02:17):
coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, address those chants and the
passion of those Steelers fans yesterday.
Speaker 7 (02:22):
Man, I appreciate their passion. I share their passion. We
all do, Matt. We love our fans.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
Man.
Speaker 7 (02:29):
They inspire us, they challenge us. It's an awesome relationship.
Speaker 3 (02:35):
Man.
Speaker 7 (02:35):
We don't run from challenges. We run two challenges. This
is a sport entertainment business. It is our job to
win and thus entertain them. And so you know, we
don't progress them for that.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
We want to. We want them to be.
Speaker 7 (02:51):
Fat and sassy and spoiled.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
It is our job.
Speaker 6 (02:55):
So not a lot of answers as far as Mike
Tomlin goes when it comes to to get a spark
or something like that going with the Pittsburgh Steeler offensive.
Speaker 3 (03:03):
Canada doesn't love them fans.
Speaker 6 (03:05):
Well, I just so, now that we're here and it's
become a thing, how long does this go for before
Mike Tomlin's got to do something?
Speaker 2 (03:13):
Does he just ride this out.
Speaker 6 (03:14):
The whole year and stay loyal or are we looking
at He's going to be given a little bit of
a runway and then you know, then we'll figure out
if we want to make a change mid season.
Speaker 5 (03:24):
I mean, LaVar is the resident. You know, Stiller's oh,
you want me to do it? You know, how much
time does he have? I think he'll ride the season
out with Canada because he chose to come. And I
think because of the type of person that Mike Tomlin
has proven time and time again and has established as
(03:45):
who he is, he made the decision.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
He's going to ride with the decision. And I think
that he's going to ride with Canada and see where
they can go with that. Now, all bets are off
black black Monday. Yeah, they're off, you know, but.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
Why isn't it white Monday?
Speaker 3 (04:07):
You know? Sam's asking Sam?
Speaker 2 (04:10):
You know, Uh, I just think that racist?
Speaker 3 (04:15):
Yeah, thank thank you.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
I just I don't see it being And he's told
every I mean, he said it in his SoundBite that
they're accepting the challenge, and he accepted that challenge coming
into the season with Matt Canada as his offensive coordinator.
This was the outcry, This was the pouring and pleading
coming out of last season. During last season as well,
(04:39):
and he brought him back. So to me, he's already
made the decision that he's running this season back with
Canada at at OC win loser draw.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
Well.
Speaker 5 (04:51):
Currently, they stand as the thirty first ranked offense in
the NFL two Yeah, largely due to the lack of
the ability to run the football. They're thirty first in
rushing yards. They're actually eighteenth in passing, So Kenny Pickett's
trying to do his part, George Pickens the rest of pieces.
(05:12):
Here's one of the reasons why that may be the case.
Matt Canada is incredibly predictable. Okay, on first and ten
or second and eight plus. Now, these are downs that
typically you know, you don't have.
Speaker 3 (05:23):
To throw the football necessarily.
Speaker 5 (05:25):
But in a league where now you're throwing the football
more than fifty percent of the time on average, it's
closer for about sixty when you factor in all.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
The teams involved, it's a bit surprising.
Speaker 5 (05:36):
The Steelers have been running the football on first and
ten or second eight plus, which second and eight plus
is really like a get back on track down. You know,
when you're at that down in distance, you know usually
you're looking for, like what can get me half back?
So I'm in third and manageable, right, So let's say
I'm in second and eight plus, second and ten something
like that, I'm gonna run Like your typical Hank concept.
Speaker 3 (05:55):
They stay in the west coast offense.
Speaker 5 (05:57):
So put you're tied end over the ball, you've got
two guys out in the flo you run two twelve
yard curls right, Like, that's a very typical let's get
back on track. Let's get an easy completion. I hit
that tight end over the ball about six yards. If not,
maybe you can work. If someone squeezes that tight end,
you go outside to the curl routes right, maybe you
get a first down, maybe it's third and short, whatever
(06:17):
the case. Right now, the Steelers are running the football
fifty three percent of the time, which is probably one
of the higher in the NFL when you stack it up,
and the problem is they've got a loaded box, meaning
there's an extra defender in the box on fifty four
percent of those snaps, so more than half of those
snaps that they're taking it's a loaded box. That's just
(06:38):
poor schematic play calling. Like, it's hard to win if
you're not throwing the football in a way that isn't
going to allow it to be that. You know, every
team to expect it, right, You got to catch someone
by surprise every once in a while. Mix up when
you're throwing the football, and I understand This is a
franchise that's been led by running the game, running game defense.
Speaker 3 (07:00):
Really for its history.
Speaker 5 (07:02):
But you're now in a league in an era where
it's it's all about offensive output, and they've got the
players to be able to do it. It's just they
ned an offensive coordator to bring it out of them.
So it's frustrating to watch. They got to buy coming
up here. I think what week six, and I'm right Jonas,
if things go bad and they're a one in five
football team by that or excuse me, one in one
(07:24):
in four football team by that point, I could see
them contemplating switching up the play calling.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
Dude, as is something else on the staff.
Speaker 5 (07:32):
I've mentioned Mike Sullivan in the past, but I don't
think they'll outright fire.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
I'm with LeVar. Mike Tomlin knows who he is. He's
he's such an awesome coach man.
Speaker 5 (07:41):
He's one of those guys you listen to him talk,
you listen to them coach, and you wish you had
the chance to play for him. Like I sincerely mean
that any coach with a Steelers a team that you
know couldn't stand.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
But he's just an He's an awesome dude, He's an
awesome coach. He's a leader of men. He knows who
he is.
Speaker 5 (07:56):
He stays true to that even despite sometimes you know,
maybe in this case, missing out an opportunity to go
with the guy like like Eric Bienemy, who I would
have brought into at least interview or found a way
of interviewing to see if he wouldn't be a better
fit for offense moving forward.
Speaker 6 (08:11):
Yeah, I think Canada's coaching for his play calling duty
job till the bye week, because you're at the Raiders,
at the Texans, then you've got the Ravens, and then
I just think Mike Tommins got him.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
He's basically this is.
Speaker 6 (08:24):
A three week trial to see whether or not they
can do something different and kind of generate some spark
into the offense. But if they're still sputtering at that point,
it's just more of the same. He's got them, He's
got to do something like It's it's become a talking point.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
That a repeat This is a repeat performance for anyone
who has watched them play last year. People were saying
the same exact things this time last year, like if
he the same exact things, So I don't I don't
necessarily think that that's the case, Jonas, I really don't.
I think that coming into this season, Mike Tomlin made
(09:03):
the decision that this is who he wants to be
his offensive coordinator. He's going to stay married to that.
He's not going he's not going to jump ship on
Mike Tomlin. You know what, Mike Tomlin is the type
of person where he's the I wouldn't want this done
to me type of guy. That's the type of person
Mike Tomlin is. Mike Tomlin will look you in your
eyes and be like, we're gonna go through this season together.
(09:25):
I would not want to have somebody look me in
my eyes and tell me we're going to do this season.
We're gonna work, we're gonna get it, we're gonna get
after it this year, and then you change your mind
on me.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
Yeah, but we're talking play calling, dude.
Speaker 6 (09:37):
He's not firing him and just telling him, hey, there's
a couple of boxes, grab your stuff and get out
of here. During the bye week, I'm saying, like, you know,
you turn it over to somebody else to say, let's
let's say somebody else have a look at this and
give this a run.
Speaker 2 (09:49):
Here because it's not working.
Speaker 1 (09:52):
I mean, leadership comes with those types of decisions. I
just I think he chose to go with Canada. I
think he's going rat that out this season. I just
I think that that's I mean, yeah, I just I
don't see how he would go away from that and
go to someone internally, because you would assume he's looking
(10:15):
at it internally. Like if I was going go with
somebody internally, I would have gone with that person internally.
Speaker 6 (10:21):
That might that might also present an awkward situation. I
wonder how awkward that would be if all of a sudden,
Matt Canada is no longer call him plays. He's the
offensive coordinator, but he's not calling plays anymore. And now
he's got somebody, you know, somebody that was underneath him
that's now got the job.
Speaker 5 (10:35):
I mean, that would be the first time someone made
that accusation. It's kind of happening in college football this week.
Speaker 3 (10:40):
Who's got that going on?
Speaker 5 (10:41):
Well, Lane Kiffin's saying that it's not Kevin Steel, the
defensive coordinator for Bama calling the defense.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
He said, they're second year as coach.
Speaker 6 (10:47):
So Lane can't help himself. Man, I love Lane Kiffin.
He just can't help himself. He's gotta gotta take a guy.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
You know, some people in Tuscalissa, he might be knowing
what's going on.
Speaker 6 (10:57):
It feels like Alabama's got bigger problems though, like they're
uh the play calling from their brand new offensive you think?
Speaker 3 (11:04):
So, I love it here. I think they'll be just
fine this week.
Speaker 6 (11:08):
I just wonder if you know where their offensive coordinator
came from has something to do with their struggles that
That's just what I'm wondering. But again, you know, I'm
just not trying to stir the pot here. I'm just
trying to get to the bottom of this stuff. That's
all I'm trying to do here. Uh So, Lebar, you're
in on Canada being there the entire season calm plays.
Speaker 1 (11:30):
I believe that that's what's going to take place, all right.
I think it would have to get when it would
have to get really really ugly bad like they're they're scoring.
Speaker 2 (11:42):
It's that's what they've done.
Speaker 6 (11:46):
Like if they're not for their defense, they're not one
of that game on Monday night.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
But they won.
Speaker 1 (11:52):
They won, they did win, and you're and why you're right,
the observation is accurate. I mean I just don't see them. Yeah,
it's going to be the season. What would it take?
I mean, okay, let me ask you and Q this,
What would it take for him to lose his job
this season? What would it take? I don't think you
would demoted or demoted. What would it take for him
(12:16):
to get demoted? Well demoted?
Speaker 5 (12:17):
I just think they go into the bid and they
realize like this isn't working, and look, at that point,
maybe they give them the opportunity to leave instead of
staying on the staff only because it's only hurting his chance.
Speaker 3 (12:28):
Of getting with the staff after the year. If you're waiting,
you know, longer.
Speaker 5 (12:34):
I think if they continue on this path, you know
where if you're really dissecting the film, you're saying like,
we're up against it because we don't have a schematical advantage,
were predictable. We're not figuring out ways of you know,
finding our identity and implementing things that help us be successful.
Speaker 3 (12:50):
You know.
Speaker 5 (12:50):
I think that would be And look, it's tough to
do because there's so many variables that go into play
calling and offensive output, but that would be the first
way I think he would get demoted. As far as fired,
he would have to you know, obviously it had to
be a situation where Mike Tomlin comes to him.
Speaker 3 (13:07):
Tells him to do something, he just doesn't do it.
Speaker 5 (13:09):
He's insubordinate or he you know, that happens multiple times
with something that they're doing. You know, I think at
that point then you might see him react and say like,
we're not going to stand for that. No one our
coaching staff should be doing these sorts of things like that.
That would be where I'd be more concerned, you know,
for his job security if he did something.
Speaker 3 (13:29):
But again, Mike Tomlin's really loyal. I don't see him
doing that.
Speaker 6 (13:33):
Yeah, well, it's interesting to watch. It's another storyline in
the AFC North to go along with, you know, the
Deshaun Watson struggles, the Joe Burrow calf, the Baltimore Ravens
and their brand new look offense, and Zay Flowers, the
guy Brady Quinn's been bloviating about for months and months
now that looks to be the goods there. So it
just feels like Baltimore is starting to maybe they'll distance
(13:56):
themselves from everybody else in that division there in the
AFC North, But it is too Rose and a Cup
of Joe Here on Fox Sports Radio, LeVar Arrington, Brady Quinn,
Jonas knocks with you. Coming up next here from the
tire rack dot Com studios, there is a discussion about
a surprise MVP in the National Football League and it
may make some sense.
Speaker 2 (14:16):
We'll tell you who that is. That's next.
Speaker 4 (14:18):
Be sure to catch live editions of Two Pros and
a Cup of Joe with Brady Quinn, LeVar Arrington, and
Jonas Knox weekdays at six am Eastern, three am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (14:32):
The hell is this crap?
Speaker 3 (14:35):
This all? Yeah? What is this? O? Bro? Don't do that?
Speaker 2 (14:39):
That's free now. I really don't know. This is Rick James.
Speaker 8 (14:48):
It's a bad one, uh for one of you. LaVar
said cold Blooded earlier, so I thought I'd go with
little Rick James.
Speaker 2 (14:55):
That's all takes.
Speaker 3 (14:55):
Yeah, I did say cold blooded.
Speaker 2 (14:57):
Host listening intently.
Speaker 3 (15:00):
This is a good song.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
It's a classic jam. When does a good part come up?
Speaker 3 (15:05):
Wow? Ditch nevery, how you look? Uh?
Speaker 6 (15:14):
Oh jeez, go it. It is Two Pros and a
Cup of Joe Here on Fox Sports Radio, LaVar Arrington,
Brady Quinn, Jonas Knox with you. So coming up in
we'll call it a little over twenty minutes from now
from the ti raq dot com studios, we are going
(15:36):
to have our Midweek Awards, the Good, the Bad, and
the Ugly, a Wednesday tradition here on the show. So
that'll be yours again, coming up here a little over
twenty minutes from now here on Fox Sports Radio. So
would you guys like to play a fun little game
of can you name the first non quarterback to appear
on the odds list for the MVP in the NFL?
Speaker 3 (15:58):
MICHAEH.
Speaker 6 (15:58):
Parsons, Brady Quinn, you are correct, Yeah, that is correct,
Michael Parsons. According to our friends at DraftKings, how about
it along with Tyreek Hill sitting at fifty to one
to win MVP this season in the National Football League,
and this might actually start to generate a little bit
more traction. So Michael Parsons was on the Pat McAfee
(16:20):
show starring AJ Hawk, and he did let a little
bit of some information fly about how he's being used
during practice by Mike McCarthy.
Speaker 2 (16:28):
Let's take a.
Speaker 3 (16:29):
Listen, Okay, Mike, got you. Let me get a couple
of Scout team rips oh o good. Yeah, he might
not let you know that. I probably she was skilled
to tease. That's good news. That's big.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
Mike still got his fastball.
Speaker 3 (16:42):
Live, super cool man.
Speaker 1 (16:44):
I'll be telling you know, I just keep trying to
showing glimpses of whatever opportunities I can get to let
him know I'm trying to touch his ball in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
So how about that far they're using him at tight
end now in practice?
Speaker 3 (16:54):
Oh snap.
Speaker 5 (16:55):
I thought like he was like trying to give like
the offense a good look, like what defensive scouts I
don't know.
Speaker 3 (17:00):
The like on offense like that.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
Yeah, I mean he used to.
Speaker 5 (17:03):
Play running back. He was a tailback, and he could
tell too. When he gets to the ball in his hand,
You're like, okay, that dude's run.
Speaker 3 (17:10):
Yeah you know.
Speaker 1 (17:11):
I mean, I mean, you don't want to risk getting
him injured, but I mean, he's talented if you wanted
to play around with it.
Speaker 5 (17:21):
I feel like that's the hardest thing a coach faces
is when you have I mean, and obviously we talked
earlier today about Colorado and Dion, but they had a
two way player that he's playing on these snaps. It's like, well,
what do you want us to do? Like, as much
as you worry about an injury risk, it's football. There's
always that risk. And so in the case of Travis Hunter,
like that's a recruiting pitch. There's a lot of kids
(17:42):
who play both ways. LeVar, you played both ways? Of course,
I assume I did, and like and I would imagine,
like when you got to Penn State, did you ever contemplate, like, man,
it'd be great to play both ways.
Speaker 3 (17:51):
Maybe I might get on the field sooner if I'm
not running back. You know, it was funny I was.
Speaker 1 (17:55):
I was a tailback and a safety, yeah when I
went to when I went to college, but I did
not want to play tailback and I did not want
to play safety. I was more laser focused in on
being a kid from Pittsburgh that went to LBU to
play linebacker.
Speaker 3 (18:12):
Yeah, and I get that.
Speaker 5 (18:13):
I think my point is just if you've got a
guy who wants to do it, yeah, I mean, yeah,
there's the there's the comment of like protecting it from himself,
but there's also an element of, well, if it helper
helps our team win. It's a hard line to I
guess to to I don't know straddle walk however you want.
Speaker 3 (18:30):
To put it.
Speaker 1 (18:30):
I would I would think they would hand it off
to him rather than put him at tight end.
Speaker 5 (18:36):
But I could well the injury because the injury rate
is probably higher running back.
Speaker 3 (18:41):
Yeah, okay.
Speaker 6 (18:43):
I could one see Mike McCarthy later in the year
and on Sunday Night football they're hosting the Eagles. I
could see him after Nick Sirianni saying, that's game f
you last year there, so that's game f you.
Speaker 3 (19:00):
How do you know he said that.
Speaker 2 (19:01):
I mean, let's just reading lips.
Speaker 3 (19:02):
Yeah, it actually looked pretty It was pretty clear.
Speaker 5 (19:05):
Yeah, I don't know, like there wasn't even like a
way of you looking at his lips and going oh
yeah he said something else.
Speaker 3 (19:11):
It was like very like that game f you.
Speaker 2 (19:21):
And you know, Sirianni, does that sound like something he
would say?
Speaker 5 (19:23):
I love Nick. Yeah, he's the best man. He's a
fiery Italian, passionate dude. He's an emotional dude. So yeah,
I'll say this much like he's genuine like how he
is is how he is.
Speaker 3 (19:34):
He's not putting on a show. That's how he is. Man.
Speaker 5 (19:36):
So if we were shooting hoops out on the street,
outside my house. He'd be the same exact way he
turned around if he won, and he'd be like, that's game.
Speaker 6 (19:44):
If you I could see Mike McCarthy on a spot
like that with Dallas up, you know, ten points late
in the game, they're at the goal line, Big Mike,
and he throws Micah Parsons in at tight.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
End and they throw all the touchdown.
Speaker 3 (19:57):
I could. I could eat Mike Vrabel. Yeah, Patriots.
Speaker 6 (20:01):
How many touchdowns did Rabel have in his career? So
you think it's more or less than ten? I'm gonna
go with I'll go with less. Yeah, Lee, Can we
just double check that on Mike Rabel? How many touchdowns
he had? This is uh trying to get Levar's guy
an MVP here.
Speaker 1 (20:19):
Yeah, but if Q threw it out there, he probably
already looked at it.
Speaker 3 (20:23):
So oh no, I definitely haven't looked at it.
Speaker 9 (20:24):
Ten receiving, one rushing well no, no, excuse me, one
defensive touchdown, So eleven total.
Speaker 3 (20:30):
There you go.
Speaker 2 (20:31):
I feel like ten receiving though ten receiving touchdowns.
Speaker 3 (20:35):
Please, Yeah, I got it. In is one of the
most prepared dudes.
Speaker 5 (20:40):
I know you're talking about Mike Vrable today we all
throw ten out like you gonna throw random. That's my
favorite number, bro, that is I mean, if I were
it is a great number. If I were eleven, I
would have said eleven.
Speaker 1 (20:55):
You know it, that's fair. Damn it is a dope number.
I wanted to be number ten originally in college. Yeah,
we only behind it.
Speaker 2 (21:03):
We all do number Well, you're number one in my heart,
that's for sure.
Speaker 3 (21:07):
That's true. You know what. Eleven one came the number one. Hey,
you're number one so much in my heart I'll put
you on my jersey twice.
Speaker 2 (21:15):
That I'm talking about. All right to bar we're stating
that we're making the case here for might get a
win MVP.
Speaker 5 (21:24):
We are, But can we can we transition to something
that like Iowa, Sam's got a red ass about what
is it? What's that you guys didn't see the deep
fake of Brian Farrence yesterday? This and this actually brought
to my attention to the fact that it looks so real.
I mean, you could do this with any coach, any team,
Like it kind of gets scary because it did look
(21:44):
legitimate and it's I mean, it's vintage Brian Farrence, like
you could see him saying this behind closed doors or
maybe even publicly.
Speaker 2 (21:51):
Did we have the sound? All right, let's hear it.
Speaker 10 (21:53):
All have had fun with this twenty five point obsession
and I get it.
Speaker 3 (21:57):
I do.
Speaker 10 (21:57):
But if I'm not mistaken, we just dropped forty one
on Saturday. So maybe it's time to grab a hold
of your little step ladders and go ahead and climb
out of my ass for a while.
Speaker 5 (22:10):
So could I just say this, Like for anyone who
knows Brian parents, you're like, that's real dude, Like I have,
I've said in meetings with him before. He's a fiery guy.
He's a guy who like he stands on his word,
like he's he would say something like that like rady.
Speaker 8 (22:28):
Do you think he would say it at a First
of all, I don't. There's a couple of things I
had doubts about when I saw this. But do you
think he would say that publicly?
Speaker 3 (22:35):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (22:36):
See you say no? From my interactions with him, yes,
because I don't think he gives.
Speaker 3 (22:41):
I don't think he cares.
Speaker 5 (22:42):
Well, I don't think he cares how you perceive him, Ia,
Sam or anyone else.
Speaker 8 (22:46):
Like just had a I don't think he has regular
There are a couple of things that should have drawn
red flags. And you saw this or watch this. He
doesn't have regular weekly availability to the predident, which is odd.
Speaker 3 (22:57):
By the way. Yeah, it's sort of a as a coordinator,
you should.
Speaker 8 (23:01):
Oh because he's probably gambling with his players. That could
be that could be the case. And then off listen
the fact that I knew was fake going into it
and I watched it. Yes, the voice now we can
do like the AI voice stuff which is very realistic,
and you're like wow. Listening to it, you're like, wow,
that's Brian Ferrence. But you watch the mouth in the
video and you're like, it looks a little bit glossy. Okay,
(23:24):
but it's more clear once you find out it's fake.
If you just looking at this quickly, it looks real.
Speaker 3 (23:30):
Shun, we play it one more time because it sounds
so real.
Speaker 10 (23:33):
All have had fun with this twenty five point obsession
and I get it.
Speaker 3 (23:36):
I do.
Speaker 10 (23:37):
But if I'm not mistaken, we just dropped forty one
on Saturday, So maybe it's time to grab a hold
of your little step ladders and go ahead and climb
out of my ass for a while.
Speaker 5 (23:48):
Just road just add context with people who don't know.
He's got in his contract basically it states he's got
a average twenty five points or more right this year
wise he gets cammed and so.
Speaker 8 (24:02):
No, actually I think it's a pay reduction or pay reduction. Yeah,
they're not, it's not. The firing on the line is
so not kirkfaded. I don't think he'd ever make it
that the stakes that high.
Speaker 5 (24:12):
Maybe he wouldn't, but I think the perception of everything
on the outside has been that. I think it's basically like,
if you're gonna pay him less, he'd probably just say, okay.
Speaker 6 (24:19):
I think I think he's making eight hundred and change
and then to get over a million.
Speaker 2 (24:23):
He needs to do something like that. But percent will
touch I will say, here he.
Speaker 3 (24:27):
Out of my ass for a while, yeah.
Speaker 2 (24:30):
For a while.
Speaker 8 (24:31):
Yeah, he is in good shape because after that forty
one point game where it was all offensive touchdowns, they
even taking out their defensive touchdown against Iowa State, they're
still averaging twenty six. If you throw that defensive touchdown in,
they're averaging like twenty eight point six.
Speaker 6 (24:44):
Or defensive touchdowns don't count, that's what he's saying. Yeah,
he said, well they do, don't They Brady.
Speaker 8 (24:51):
Don't they can't your offensive not for this not for
this contract, well not in this sense, but don't like,
don't he doesn't the offense get credit for defense touch stats?
Speaker 2 (25:01):
So oh, okay, we do it different in Iowa City.
Speaker 8 (25:03):
Well, okay, take out that take out that Sebastian Castro
pick sticks against Iowa State.
Speaker 6 (25:08):
He's at twenty six, so we're in the clear. I
just hope he's not safe. I hope he's averaging twenty four.
And they're in a blowout situation late in the season,
and for no reason whatsoever, he throws like a flea
flicker when they're trying to down the ball down the
block and just just run the clock out. He just
decided to right. I gotta get this bonus. I gotta
(25:29):
get paid.
Speaker 8 (25:30):
The idiocy of all this is that Iowa Press was
like Iowa was up thirty four to ten and they
scored another touchdown. It's like, why are they being so aggressive?
It's like we see teams putting up seventy seven on
a paid opponent.
Speaker 2 (25:42):
Who cares go run your office.
Speaker 5 (25:45):
It's not really who the Iowa folks are, you know,
usually like score the ball, Sam, Sam, can we talk like,
I know you wanted this to be your second We
just talk for something.
Speaker 3 (25:54):
We talked.
Speaker 5 (25:54):
You guys get in a bar fight where you knocked
the guy out instead of like burying the hatch and
like buying each other drink. You go over, do a
dance on and you do a body slam. You dance
on them. You like, that's not you. That's not the
Iowa folks that we know. There's a bar fight that happens,
you go, you settle it at the bar, you have
nice drink.
Speaker 3 (26:11):
That's that's the Iowa way.
Speaker 5 (26:12):
Now you guys are converting into like one of these
like irishmen you know who wants to like kick you
while you're down.
Speaker 2 (26:17):
You know, yeah, des Moines, not double one. Okay, there
you go.
Speaker 1 (26:22):
Yeah, kind the same sounds close though they're very close
and sound.
Speaker 2 (26:26):
One's a French name, one's a Irish you know what,
I'm Sam and Sam.
Speaker 6 (26:31):
You know what, if you don't like any at all, Sam,
if you don't like any of that commentary you want
you get a step ladder and climb out of our ass.
Speaker 2 (26:37):
Okay, how about the wow?
Speaker 3 (26:38):
Yeah for a while, Sam, you're a little too passionate
about this stuff.
Speaker 5 (26:41):
You got a big one this week. I mean, how
you feel about your odds going to you? Feeling about
this weekend?
Speaker 2 (26:45):
Not good? Uh, you know it's the white game.
Speaker 5 (26:50):
Off By the way I'm seeing it at fourteen and
a half, is there still a hook on that one?
Speaker 2 (26:56):
We're a hook checking right now here on the show.
Speaker 3 (26:58):
What we got for draft over under his forty which
I'm taking the under?
Speaker 2 (27:02):
Dude, you're gonna take the under?
Speaker 3 (27:04):
Well?
Speaker 5 (27:04):
Two great defenses, Yeah, and I think this is you know,
it's one of those matchups where you know I was
going to shorten the game and limit the possessions that
Aller gets.
Speaker 2 (27:14):
You know what, they feel great about it? Not feel
great about.
Speaker 5 (27:17):
One of the things, LeVar that I have, like I'm
a little concerned with from watching last week's take versus
Illinois is there's not enough pre snap movement from Penn
State's offense to I think helped get edges or put
pressure on like opposing defenses, Like they had a hard
time with that de tackle from Illinois.
Speaker 3 (27:34):
That kid's a stud and he dominated that game.
Speaker 1 (27:37):
He really did the d lineman. But I will say
this though, this this offense went on the road. That
was its first test on the road, true, and Drew
Aller's first like real start against a Big ten opponent
on the road. I think they're going to open it
up a little bit if they need to against Iowa.
(27:59):
Now I don't know that they will, but I think
they're just so committed to establishing and and and developing
a brand of running the ball and being physical that
I almost feel like it is they're doing it on purpose,
like they're they're trying to beat up on teams, and
(28:20):
it's it's being done on purpose, right, And and so
we'll I mean, we'll see, but I think this will
be a great test to see if that that theory
is continuing to hold true. But I do think that
this is a team that is enjoying the concept of
we're going to just keep hitting you in the mouth
over and over again. And they got two backs to
(28:43):
do it. And and Trey Pats is starting to get
a little bit more like some looks as well.
Speaker 5 (28:49):
You know, the transfer out of Minnesota. The young man's
name is Gison Newton, Illinois. People becau he's gonna be
playing the NF.
Speaker 2 (28:56):
What's his uh what they call what's his nickname? They
call him? It's not that they don't call by his
first name. Uh.
Speaker 6 (29:02):
Klatt and Gus Johnson were talking about that on Saturday.
Speaker 2 (29:05):
What the hell do they call him? Damn it?
Speaker 3 (29:07):
Anyway, again, his name's Jiza Newton. Yeah. Later, but he'll
be an NFL prospect. He did it.
Speaker 1 (29:13):
He's an incredible player. Blocked the phield gold. I mean
he was, he was balling, man, he was, he was
out there.
Speaker 6 (29:20):
Yeah, Johnny Newton, Yes, that's who they were calling him.
What Johnny Newton? Okay, that's what they call him. They'll
call him by his you know. But again we're just
talking to Illinois football here kind of.
Speaker 2 (29:30):
My my neck of the woods.
Speaker 3 (29:31):
So okay, way that works.
Speaker 6 (29:33):
Two pros and a cup of Joe here and now

there's some bad, and then there's some downright ugly things.
It's time, good, bad and lovely, all right.
Speaker 2 (32:04):
Lead to lab who's got what this week?
Speaker 9 (32:05):
Well, as we do each and every Wednesday, we start
with the good and you know it's a good week
when we got Brady giving us the good.
Speaker 5 (32:11):
What hey, you guys ever wish you could have stayed
in college, like would have stayed in college longer? I mean,
I guess I'm well, I mean I think LeVar your
answer him, yes, right, yeah, no, most guys. Most guys
do like the victory lap.
Speaker 3 (32:27):
Right.
Speaker 5 (32:27):
They take like another year to finish up because they
like it so much. Well, look, there's a lot of
good in the world, but this story just really piques
my interest. Miami tight end Cam McCormick. He's petitioned the
ACC yesterday for an unprecedented ninth year of college eligibility.
(32:48):
He's a former transfer from Oregon and he sat out
nearly three years because of an ankle surgery he had
after like an early promising season. He was redtrot his
freshman year, sophomore were actually started to have things go on,
but then sat.
Speaker 3 (33:02):
Out due to the injury.
Speaker 5 (33:03):
Missed three seasons while at Oregon due to that, ended
up transferring after he finally got back healthy for Morgan
his last one and so with the COVID year, the
medical red shirts year, and everything else. He's trying to
do something that is unprecedented. We've never seen anyone do
this before. He's currently tied with Northern Illinois Kyle pw
(33:24):
for the longest college football tenure in FBS history. No
player's ever been granted nine season of eligibility. So here's
hoping that Cam McCormick can beat that player. Stay in
college forever. Party your ass off, and enjoy yourself. Go
get however many degrees you can while you're at it.
Speaker 3 (33:42):
Good for him. I hope this works out.
Speaker 2 (33:44):
Yeah, why not?
Speaker 3 (33:45):
Come on? This would be a busy twenty five.
Speaker 5 (33:49):
He'd be twenty six turning twenty seven by the time
he gets out.
Speaker 2 (33:53):
Wow, that's a Chris Wanke at Florida State.
Speaker 3 (33:57):
Sam, you can just say it on air. Sam, you
don't have to text me. What do you want to say?
Speaker 1 (33:59):
Ye?
Speaker 8 (34:00):
Come on, Sam, spit it out. He's the Van Wilder
of college football.
Speaker 5 (34:04):
Yeah, I mean, does does it not strike? He was like,
all right, he goes to Miami SS Like, wait a second,
South Beach is He's like, I got I got some
nil buddy down in my pocket. Yeah, yeah, I'm gonna
stay here for a while.
Speaker 9 (34:18):
Well, guys, that was pretty good, but you can't have
good without the bad. Jonas what was bad this week?
Speaker 2 (34:23):
Oh?
Speaker 6 (34:23):
I mean, look, I thought maybe they could compete to
be one of the last wild card teams in a
depleted NFC. I thought maybe things would look a little
bit better and more promising based on some of the
additions to this football team.
Speaker 2 (34:44):
But my bad for the week is the Chicago Bears.
They are so much.
Speaker 6 (34:47):
Worse than I thought they'd be. They are the worst
team in the NFL right now. They're worse in Arizona.
For all the jokes that I made about the Arizona
Cardinals and how bad they were, at least they look
like they're playing hard. At least they they're competitive and
there's some fight to him. The Bears look overwhelmed. They
look confused, justin fields looks terrible, like you're seeing film
(35:10):
breakdowns now of how long he holds onto the football man. Well,
maybe it's not the offensive line anymore. They're terrible. And
I would like to petition if Cam McCormick's going to
petition for another year of eligibility from college football, I
like to petition that instead of the good, the bad,
the ugly, it's the good, the awful, and the ugly,
because the Chicago Bears are awful and that's my award
(35:31):
this week.
Speaker 9 (35:32):
Well from awful to worst. LeVar, what was ugly this week?
Speaker 3 (35:37):
You want to take it? You want to answer for me? Oh,
she still say it?
Speaker 1 (35:42):
I mean in the current moment that we're in right now,
I'm dealing with a full blown migrain.
Speaker 3 (35:48):
Oh I think if I was talking about Nick Chubb
the injury.
Speaker 1 (35:50):
That well, yeah, I mean I don't. I'm having a
selfish moment right now. I have a killer grain taking place.
Speaker 3 (36:01):
And I'm doing the show. Now. What do you think
that's pretty ugly? What's that? What do you think that
the migrant is? What do you think?
Speaker 1 (36:10):
I've gotten him since I was in high school? So
I don't want to say it's CTE I get. I
get migraines. I've always got migraines. I'm a classic migraine.
Speaker 9 (36:21):
Samstrate to say you need a caffeine to battle a headache.
Speaker 3 (36:25):
Which is, oh, yeah, well that's real.
Speaker 8 (36:27):
That's leave is basically a seed of benefit and just
caffeine pill rolled into one. You think caffeine would make
it worse, but it does something for you. What do
you fou Do you know that it's just one of
those facts.
Speaker 2 (36:38):
Just learned about it?
Speaker 3 (36:38):
Well, shots fired? Why is he fauci all of a.
Speaker 2 (36:41):
Sudden, that's an auchi.
Speaker 3 (36:42):
That's an auchi.
Speaker 2 (36:43):
Call it hill if our's got an ouchi right now.
Speaker 1 (36:45):
It's a It's a tremendous altu. Have you for what
it's worth. The Nick Chubb injury was the ugliest of
the week, honestly. Obviously you're wishing him a safe, healthy recovery,
and hell, I'm wishing myself for healthy recovery.
Speaker 2 (37:02):
Have you acted me coffee yet?
Speaker 3 (37:03):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (37:04):
I have one in front of me, but I think
if I drink it, I'll throw it up. So I
got a bad one.
Speaker 2 (37:11):
Let's try it out on the air. Let's see what happens.
Speaker 3 (37:13):
Yeah, I'll pass a way to the to the.
Speaker 2 (37:16):
Break Listen, you're fighting through it.
Speaker 3 (37:22):
Gotta play hurt sometimes, you.
Speaker 2 (37:23):
Know, unless your man would have just not shown up.
Not you come.
Speaker 3 (37:26):
On, make that coffee to go, let's go here we go. Ye,
a big slab of ice on my head and we
appreciate you fighting through though. Brother. Good all good?
Speaker 6 (37:37):
Yeah, So you have a slab of ice or is
it like a bag of ice.
Speaker 3 (37:41):
It's a bag of ice, Jones.
Speaker 2 (37:44):
Just just double check and bag of peace.
Speaker 3 (37:47):
Yeah, bag of peas. What's that kind of frozen piece?
Speaker 2 (37:50):
May Yeah, you guys, ever bag of frozen.
Speaker 1 (37:51):
Piece because it kind of like conforms to the area
you put it on. That's that's what they say, you know.
But they get real mushy when and the heat up.
Speaker 5 (38:01):
Yeah, that is true. Yeah, they don't smell it either.
Peas are not a good stay or not. Yeah, they
don't smell.
Speaker 2 (38:06):
No, kind of kind of an overrated I disagree. I
just totally disagreed.
Speaker 3 (38:11):
Rule. Yeah, they literally make protein out of it.
Speaker 2 (38:13):
It's not great. They are a bit overrated. Give piece
a chance, you.
Speaker 3 (38:17):
Know, maybe maybe peas will be in the BQ news today.
Oh wow, the p Q news. You didn't know that,
did you, p q Q News Sam.
Speaker 6 (38:27):
One after another, they're just like, this is the problem,
Like you bust the pinata open and it's just bad
joke after bad joke falling from the sky. It's just this.
This is where we're at. Here go Penn State. This
weekend
