Speaker 2 (00:27):
Give us you're listening to Fox Sports Radio. It is
Two Pros and a Cup of Joe, Fox Sports Radio,
LaVar Arrington, Brady Quinn, Jonas Knox with you here. You
can hang out with us on the iHeartRadio app and
find us on hundreds of affiliates. And one of those
affiliates is out here on the Blowtorch AM five to
seventy LA Sports and beyond where Apparently the other night
(00:52):
there was a parking lot fire and so the organists
decided to play. We didn't start the fire from Billy Joel,
and so we are at that point to where everybody's
looking around. If you're bored with the NBA Playoffs, if
you're bored with any of the other stuff. We've always
got football conversation on this show. Well, you know, I
mean some people, you know, they get fatigued by it.
(01:13):
You know, we talked about it earlier. The Minnesota Timberwolves
lose Game one because they were exhausted. The Dallas Mavericks
get it done, and so we wait for game two.
We've got Game two between the Seas and the Indiana
Pacers coming up later on tonight. And regardless of what
we're discussing here on this show, we're always discussing it
from the ti iraq dot com studios. Tiraq dot com
(01:34):
will help you get there an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping,
free road hazard protection at over ten thousand recommended installers.
Tiraq dot com the way tire buying should be. And
so with that being said, the conversation does transition over
to the NFL, and we were discussing the eighteen game season,
the potential of an eighteen game season. Earlier Roger Goodell
(01:54):
spoke about that. Well, one of the teams in the
NFL that some people have argued, you know, maybe kind
of has a little bit more difficult of a path
and everybody else when it comes to the schedules the
Kansas City Chiefs, they're playing on every day of the
week this upcoming year other than Tuesday. So they've got
the Wednesday Christmas game, they're playing on a Thursday. But
(02:16):
like every single game other than the Tuesday, the Kansas
City Chiefs find themselves playing on. And so Andy Reid
was asked about that yesterday by the media. Here were
his thoughts.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
They don't ask me.
Speaker 4 (02:27):
It's the first time my care that that's having us unique.
Speaker 5 (02:30):
So you know how we are.
Speaker 6 (02:32):
I mean, we don't really care if they could give
us a Tuesday game if they want, we'll be okay
there too. So we work through it and we'll play
an anybody anywhere.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
Whatever they want to do, we're on board.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
So did he just tee up the NFL? Did he
just tee up the NFL with you know what, let's
go ahead and give him every single day of the week.
Let's at some way somewhere give him every single day
of the week. And was that something they stole from
the show, because there's been one man who's been pounding
the table for getting games on these other days of
(03:06):
the week that don't normally have NFL games, and that
man is none other than Braden T. Quinn, the man
who built the T shirt Empire, known as I would
sit for Quinn, who called it years ago and said
they've got to be playing games more days of the week. Congratulations, Brady.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
I think it solves two issues. I'll continue to keep
pounding the pavement for this. It's, without a doubt, a
better slating schedule for player safety. I don't care if
it's an extra day of rest, an extra two days
of rest, LeVar how important or how much of a difference.
Speaker 5 (03:42):
Would that matter.
Speaker 7 (03:43):
Every minute matters once you get in season, every second
matters of rest.
Speaker 5 (03:49):
It gives them.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
More flexibility to help out with players recovering, especially if
you go to eighteen games and you don't want to
put in another buy.
Speaker 5 (03:59):
It's like, okay, it's fine.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
But like, help us gain more rest, help us not
have to play three games in ten days, three games
in eleven days like the Jets have to do twice
in the first eleven weeks of the season.
Speaker 5 (04:15):
Like if you really care.
Speaker 1 (04:18):
About your product and care about the player performance on
the field and what that looks like, then help the
players recover and in moving games to throughout the course
of the week, and with the exception of being Fridays
and Saturdays, I'd like to save that for.
Speaker 5 (04:33):
High school and college football.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
And I think once those seasons are done, then at
a the latter portion of the season, you can take
over Friday and Saturday.
Speaker 5 (04:41):
But take up those primetime spots. I'm sorry.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
Since the invention of being able to watch television on demand, yeah,
there was already starting to be a trend of people saying,
I don't need to tune in to this show at eight,
I can watch it on my time. Maybe I don't
get home till nine, so you know, maybe I work late,
I don't get home till ten or eleven, I can
watch it before I get to bed. Yeah, so there's
(05:07):
no doubt you can. You've now ventured in this realm
of having an appointment television kind of kicked to the
curb because of on demand, and then you have the
streaming element of it now where you've got the ability
on your phone, iPad, whatever to watch what you want
to watch, when you want to watch.
Speaker 5 (05:22):
It, you know, wherever that is.
Speaker 1 (05:25):
So you have all these factors that play a role
in saying if the only appointment television is really live events,
now where you have, you know, games at set times.
Take like, stop put these shows, stop putting money into
these shows. Just go with the primetime live sporting events
and put them throughout the course of the week.
Speaker 5 (05:47):
You'll get viewership. You'll get greater viewership.
Speaker 1 (05:49):
It'll help build up the brands, and even some of
the markets that aren't as big as markets, you'll still
get more viewers who are going to say, what's on tonight, Oh,
there's this game. Okay, I'll watch, right, I'll watch maybe
all the bets if you're into betting, Like this has
been far too long so that the NFL is held
off on and I have no idea, why'd.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
Be pretty sweet to get an NFL game on a
Tuesday and a Wednesday in the fall. I mean, I
feel bad for the MAC, but is what it is riverside,
we got to get some NFL games on in the
middle of the week. I would be into it. I
think that's that's a go to. And there's not a
network or a streaming service that would say no to
(06:28):
it either, Like everybody would be involved in the NFL
or want some part of the NFL. Imagine we wouldn't
have to talk about midweek storylines or a coach having
to update the media on an injury. We could just
recap a game the next day and make our jobs easier,
you know what I mean.
Speaker 7 (06:45):
I mean, NFL storylines are always making making our job easier.
I mean, there's always something that someone is going to
do or something that's going to happen that's going going
to make our job easy during the season. But I
get what you're saying.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
Yeah, I think I think it makes all the sense
in the world, and so maybe.
Speaker 5 (07:08):
That makes.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
Yeah, maybe that's a solution towards the towards the eighteen
game regular season, maybe we get that done. I mean,
you know, maybe they'll start moving I mean, do you
think that's eventually where this gets to because of all
the moving around and things like that, that that it's
it's gonna be the only one that does make sense.
(07:32):
Because if you really try to jam all of that
in and they're talking about the two bye weeks and
everything else, if when you think about it, it is the
only one, it would make their job a little bit
more difficult putting the schedule together. But dude, if you
can get these games on, like why wouldn't you do that?
I mean, yeah, you would say, you know, high school
football and all that for later on, but if you
could get games on Tuesdays Wednesdays, I like the double
(07:54):
Monday night games. I like the double barrel action on
Monday Night, as Brady Quinn refers to it. I just
think there's a way that we can get more NFL
more nights of the week and not really have to
worry about all the other craft that comes along with it,
because I'm at the point where I don't watch anything
other than really sports.
Speaker 7 (08:11):
Now, am I Am I wrong for saying I believe
in a way. I think we talked about this a
little bit too. With the way NIL is changing and
shaping college football, the way the transfer portal is attributing
to that, adding on to it, would it Would it
(08:33):
be crazy to think instead of instead of adding continuing
to add more games to the NFL, to some way,
somehow partner up with college football and the major the
major conferences and create a pro style model for college
(08:54):
football and then create a schedule and a playoff that
own most mirrors what's taking place.
Speaker 3 (09:02):
In the pros.
Speaker 7 (09:05):
Is that I mean to me, I feel like that
would be better than continuing to try. I'm just sitting
here thinking to myself how hard a sixteen game schedule was,
Like that ass is hard, man, It's hard to get
through sixteen games and do it consistently. That's a lot
of wear on the trad You're continuing to add games,
(09:29):
and I don't know, man, I just, I just I
think you gotta believe that there's a breaking point in
terms of.
Speaker 3 (09:40):
How that's going to impact these players.
Speaker 7 (09:44):
I would love how if we were going to watch
football all week long. I would love to watch major
college football teams be in the mix of playing during the.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
Course of the week like that.
Speaker 7 (09:56):
I think that's why bold season is so exciting, is
because you're always getting a game that's worth worthy of
watching during the course of the weeks.
Speaker 5 (10:06):
Let's just take let's just do what we really should do.
Speaker 1 (10:08):
Let's let's take this a step further, all right, half,
I mean, how much of the workforce now is working
from home?
Speaker 5 (10:14):
All right? How much of the workforce is.
Speaker 1 (10:17):
Even paying attention while they're at their cubicles in their office.
Speaker 5 (10:20):
Like, let's put some of these things.
Speaker 1 (10:22):
On smack dab in the middle of a weekday. Let's
let's go ahead and juice this thing up.
Speaker 5 (10:28):
If we're gonna do it, you know, I mean, why not.
Speaker 3 (10:30):
It's gonna give you more. It's going to stimulate.
Speaker 7 (10:33):
Because you're going to leave your house if your if
football is on and it's Notre Dame versus Alabama, you know,
whatever it may be. Like, if it's one of those
like real like real games, people are going to go
to a sports bar to watch it. People are going
to go to friends homes to watch it. Even if
(10:56):
it's a workday, they're going to go watch it.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
The problem is, and this is always the pushback, is
the TV network's obviously, you know, play a much greater
role in the time slots for games and kicks, et
cetera than anyone, and their concern is that they won't
get as many viewers at those time slots in the
middle of the day. So that's the unfortunate reality why
it will never happen. It is fun to kind of
kick around and talk about because you talk about bull season,
(11:21):
I mean you get taught, you know, games starting all
sorts of different days, different times. March Madness is like that. Like,
think about how much fun that is. Maybe it gets
a little bit to be a little bit too much.
If you have March madness every single day, it's not
madness anymore.
Speaker 5 (11:35):
It's just March, right, So that's why it won't happen.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
I understand what you're saying about college football and their scheduling.
It's one of the reasons why I think if you
look at what Fox and CBS and NBC have done
with the Big Ten schedule on Saturdays, is it mimics
very much what the time windows are and the slots
are for NFL Sundays. So they've kind of done that
already in that sense. But I think as to your point,
(11:59):
is things start to continue to change with realignment, there's
a strong likelihood you're gonna end up seeing two power
conferences when it's all said and done, very similar to
AFC NFC. And if this thing continues to go in
the direction of involving private equity, in part because some
of these schools might need an effusion of cash in
(12:20):
order to be able to stay afloat and then run
their athletic departments depending on the settlement, depending on how
all this stuff, you know, moves in the future, there's
a chance that you know, if private equity gets their
way about it, you know, they would take a stronghold.
They would create their own entire league and deal and
playoff and everything and try to find a way of
(12:40):
making money from it.
Speaker 7 (12:41):
Equity from the teams, or equity from just what like equity? Equity?
Speaker 5 (12:46):
How well? It depends. I mean, you could structure it.
It doesn't have to be equity.
Speaker 7 (12:49):
It could be Now, have an equity team together today
for Penn State, today, yesterday, what day to day? Let's
go take on the table some combination of debt or equity.
Speaker 3 (13:03):
It depends on however they want to structure how much
is on the table?
Speaker 2 (13:07):
Can I can I ask you guys a nerdy body
clock question. If you're playing games at random times throughout
the course of the NFL season, is your practice still
at the same time? Like, if you're playing a Monday
night game, wouldn't you practice at night?
Speaker 5 (13:23):
Practice at night? No, it's the same time.
Speaker 2 (13:26):
Wouldn't it make more sense to do that though, to
get yourself used to and acclimated to the time.
Speaker 5 (13:30):
So let me ask you this.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
Then, do you then try to get us to move
and practice radio when you are fill in for Dan Patrick?
Speaker 5 (13:37):
Do you just move like three hours later?
Speaker 2 (13:39):
Well? No, I mean I just assume that you would
do that, I would.
Speaker 3 (13:44):
Form it would be right. Would it be impacted.
Speaker 2 (13:48):
If we move three hours later?
Speaker 1 (13:50):
No, I'm asking you the same exact question, just toply
it out a radio. So when you are know you're
going to fill in for the Dan Patrick Show, do
you not practice and you know, go through a radio
bit the three hours that Dan Patrick Show.
Speaker 7 (14:02):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (14:03):
Well, yeah, but I don't need practice, Okay. I think
that's I think that's the difference. You know, some people
do like I I don't. I mean, but again, you
know that's I mean, that's just a big difference between
me and everybody else. I'm just saying, you know, when
fighters have to go on a camp or they're fighting
out of the country or something like that, I wonder
what the practice schedule is like for these teams in Brazil,
(14:26):
the teams that are going to go play overseas, Like,
how much does that change? And are you practicing at
the same time Even though you may have a Monday
night game one week of Sunday night the other week,
it just seems like it would make more sense to
practice in that time slot on a previous day to
get yourself acclimated again. Nerdy nerdy time plot question. That's
all trying to get to the bottom of it. I'm
(14:48):
looking out for you guys to your response, was it
the I don't need practice that I lost you.
Speaker 1 (14:54):
On or as soon as you said that, I was like, oh,
he's going into his I don't need practice.
Speaker 5 (14:58):
Bin gotcha?
Speaker 2 (14:59):
In fact, tag built different you know, but Jonah stock.
Speaker 5 (15:02):
Show, not the jks, because you already lost that battle
to the Joel Clatt.
Speaker 2 (15:06):
I'm not gonna let you stir this up any longer.
I'm tired of it.
Speaker 5 (15:09):
He lost that battle.
Speaker 2 (15:10):
Yeah, let me. I don't think I did. Remember when
Joel Clatt used to come on this show on Fridays.
Speaker 5 (15:15):
Yeah, so you're the one who asked him. I could
tell him that now. I'll say the text I told me.
Speaker 2 (15:21):
I was like, let me tell you something. Those initials
are mine and you know their mine. And Lee said understood.
Speaker 1 (15:27):
He was asking why we don't have him on anymore.
That said, honestly, I go, I don't know. Is that
like a you thing? He said, No, it wasn't me.
Now we know the truth.
Speaker 2 (15:34):
Yeah, had to happen. By the way, what's the latest
on Prisco? Is Prisco coming on the show anytime soon
or did you make that one?
Speaker 1 (15:41):
He was supposed to be an update, but he never did,
which is not surprising. He was probably watching Batman movies
and Michael.
Speaker 2 (15:48):
Keaton most of them.
Speaker 4 (15:49):
Yeah, mostly the Michael Keaton Tim Burton ones. No pizza,
Pize's good to go. We just got to find which
day we want him on and uh, he's well, we'll
get him in.
Speaker 2 (15:57):
Here, all right, we'll listen until then. You know, we're
loyal to Albert Breer, senior NFL reporter at the MMQB,
and he's going to join us next here with all
the latest on the expansion of the NFL and some
changes this upcoming season right here on FSR.
Speaker 8 (16:11):
Be sure to catch live editions of Two Pros and
a Cup of Joe with Brady Quinn, LeVar Arrington and
Jonas Knox weekdays at six am Eastern three am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 9 (16:25):
PULLI Fosco here with Tony Fusco. You know, as the
host of the number one rated Paully and Tony Fusco show,
we get tons and tons of fan mail every day.
Speaker 10 (16:34):
Piles of it.
Speaker 9 (16:34):
In fact, Tony, why don't you open up one of
those letters right now and read what's inside.
Speaker 10 (16:38):
Hey, listen to this, Dear Paulie and Tony, your sports
takes the dumbest and most terribly.
Speaker 9 (16:44):
Wait, open this other one.
Speaker 10 (16:46):
Dear Pauli and Toni, you suck more than anyone. Wait,
try this one. Dear Paulie and Tony, you guys are
the absolute best. There you go, coming up with the
stupidest take.
Speaker 9 (16:58):
Forget it The Falling Tony Fusco Show on the iHeartRadio app,
Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
Yee, two pros and a cup of Joe here on
Fox Sports Radio. Coming up in about twenty minutes from now,
we are going to have another edition of You In
or You Out, But right now. Albert Breer's in senior
NFL reporter, lead content strategist at the MMQB. You can
get them on Twitter at Albert Breer AB. Good morning,
How are you hey?
Speaker 11 (17:22):
What's up? Guys?
Speaker 2 (17:23):
How you doing good? Roger Goodell's comments yesterday about the
eighteen game season, yeah, a prelude to this happening, and
what do we think in twenty twenty five, twenty twenty six,
what was your takeaway.
Speaker 11 (17:37):
Yeah, I mean, I think when they start talking about
it this public, usually it means it's going to get done.
So I think, you know, unfortunately for some people that
may be a FATA compleet. Now, I think there are
two things to look at. Number One, unlike the last
time they expanded the schedule, the players do have some
(17:59):
veto here. The players have to agree to go to
eighteen games, So what are they asking for back on
whether they're getting back. I think if I'm a player
right now, you know what I'm looking for is finding
a way to create more freedom for myself to make
money while I'm still playing. If you're going to affect
my longevity by extending the season, so what does that mean.
(18:21):
That could mean, you know, three years instead of poor
to get the free agency, that could mean taking some
of the restrictions off when guys do become free agents,
whether that's tags or whatever else. Like, That's what I
would be looking for if I was a player and
I knew that this was this was something that the
owners really wanted. So I think that that part of
the negotiation is going to be interesting because again, the
(18:42):
players do have some vetail powers written into the CBA.
The second piece of this is the television contracts, and
that's where I think you can watch what's happening in
the NBA. It's really interesting to see what those numbers
wind up showing us, you know, and maybe you know
some of the numbers that you know, college football is
able to generate with the playoff expanding and everything else
(19:02):
affect this too. They have outs. The NFL is outs
in the television deal in twenty eight and twenty nine,
and so now with Netflix and and Amazon a part
of the picture, and you know, I think it's changing
landscape and broadcasting. If the owners are looking at it
and saying we want to opt out, you know, in
twenty eight or twenty nine, well then you know, are
(19:25):
you at that point looking to have a product that
you can sell. It's got more games, not less as
part of it, you know, And so I would think
that this is coming. I would think that the players
are going to want something substantial and return for it.
And my guess is that it happens probably sooner rather
than later. Especially if they're going to opt out of
the television deals in a few years.
Speaker 1 (19:47):
You think that's almost a guarantee the owners will opt
out of the of the deal.
Speaker 11 (19:52):
I don't know for sure, Brady. I think it's like
I think, I think there's a likelihood of it, and
I think history would tell you tell you that they will.
Now again, like I think some of it could ride
on like what happened.
Speaker 5 (20:08):
Real quick, Albert. Why would the history tell us that.
Speaker 11 (20:12):
The owners when the players have when the when the
owners have to opt out, they generally do opt out.
Like that's generally what it's been like if you look
at like the history of it, like this happened with
the cb A. You know, the lockout happened as a
result of the owners opting out of the cb A.
You know, the owners generally, I mean generally, the numbers
keep going up, you know, and you know, if the
if the numbers are keep going up, and you know,
(20:35):
the the the contracts wind up looking a little bit outdated,
then of course they're going to opt out. You know.
That's generally why. I can't imagine what would happen to
make the numbers go the other way where it would
be beneficial for them to opt out. I guess that
could happen, But history tells us they probably will opt out.
Speaker 5 (20:53):
I guess I'd look at it.
Speaker 1 (20:54):
And the reason why I asked that is, you know, yeah,
things seem to be going well now. A workstop is
just one thing that always potentially could throw a wrench
in any professional sport as far as how fans receive
it and absorb it. Looking at that big ass and
I've said this, I don't I don't think what.
Speaker 5 (21:10):
You threw out for players is big enough.
Speaker 1 (21:14):
And I think if this is that moment, like this
might be the only moment that I can see in
the future where the players they have a ton of leverage,
not just not not leverage, they have a ton of leverage.
I want to ask for lifetime healthcare, you know, why
not work for the past players, current players, future players,
right and get that as part of the deal.
Speaker 5 (21:31):
Is that too big of an ask in your mind?
Speaker 11 (21:33):
Yeah, I mean I think it's just going to be. Yeah,
like it's if they want. And this is what's going
to be interesting, you know with the new with with
with Floyd down charge there having a new executive director.
You know, we don't have the history that we we
had to go on with the Morris Smith, you know,
or certainly Genough shot behind himfore him, So like We
don't know exactly how he's going to handle this, but
(21:57):
he's very business minded and that's part of the reason
why they hired you know what I mean, Like they
hired d because he's a lawyer. They hired this guy
because he's a businessman, you know, and so you know,
he's going to be able to maybe see around some
corners that not everybody's able to see around. And so
you know, I think this is you'r right, like a
great chance for them to test the owners resolve and
(22:19):
like what's the breaking point for them where they throw
their hands up and just say we're staying with seventeen games.
I don't know, but you're you're very You're you're right, Brady.
I mean, like this is and and look, maybe like
lifetime healthcare is part of it, maybe taking care of
past players are part of it. But this would be
a moment where they would have a rare amount of
leverage to take advantage of the situation.
Speaker 3 (22:40):
Abe.
Speaker 7 (22:41):
I want to keep the conversation on the best time
of having leverage and ask about Justin Jefferson opting out
of being around right now seeking a new contract, an extension,
whatever it may be. But this to me, seems like
this is the most opportune time for him to be
able to maybe try to demand the type of contract
(23:05):
that and you will reset the wide receivers market. What
what what's the latest or what's your inteil on that?
Speaker 11 (23:13):
Well, he's certainly been patient, you know, and he was
out for the He sat out the off season program
last year too. We spent the majority of it in Miami,
and you know, I wouldn't expect that you see a
lot of him outside of the mandatory stuff. The other
question is going to be whether or not he takes
us into training camp, you know what I mean. And
(23:34):
he's got the ability to do it the same way
Nick Bosa did last year. Since he's still on a
rookie contract. The Vikings can forgive fines, you know, there's
the rules about the veteran players where you know, the
more veteran players, if you know, you skip training camp practices,
then they find you. You can't forgive any of the fines,
(23:55):
you know, justin Jefferson can ask for the fines back
to which gives him a little bit more flexibility to
carry a holdout into July and August. And I mean,
if you're him, you've already benefited from waiting, right because
you look at it like, I'm on Ross Saint Brown,
I'll due respect, is not the receiver Justin Jefferson is,
and he got twenty eight million per year. AJ Brown,
(24:17):
who's really really good, But again I don't know that
he's quite what Justin Jefferson is. And know he's a
little older than Justin is, Like he got thirty two
million per So if you're Justin Jefferson and you took
on the extra year of injury risk and oh, by
the way, you got hurt while taking on that injury risk.
He spent a lot of last year on the shelf
because of the hamstring thing. I mean, like do you
(24:40):
have for forty you know what I mean? Like, I
think it's he's in a position where he's holding all
the cards now, especially with the Vikings team that's got transit,
that's going through a transition at quarterback and trying to
figure out if Sam Darnold or JJ McCarthy's going to
be their guy. And you know, like those reps in
training camp A and be really important and building chemistry
(25:01):
as the new quarterbacks and be really important. You know,
all this stuff you know, really really puts puts the
cards and in justin Jefferson's hands, and it'll be interesting
to see now how he plays them.
Speaker 2 (25:13):
Albert Briers, senior NFL reporter, lead Content Strategies at the MMQB,
joining us here on Fox Sports Radio. So going back
to Goodell yesterday and speaking about several topics. One of
the things that he was asked about. I believe it
might have been Mark Maski who asked him was about
concern over or like where we're at with Tom Brady
and you know, potential ownership and going through the process.
(25:34):
And Gadell pointed out that, yeah, you know, obviously our
concern with him being a broadcaster is access to team
meetings facilities. Okay, well, how's that going to work? Like,
I mean, is there like I don't know how many
people are concerned about sort of the potential of a
conflict of interest here, either whether it be other owners
(25:56):
or other people in the league that you've talked to.
Speaker 11 (25:58):
I mean, they should be concerned. And you know what
I mean, Like, this is a this is a very
real question, you know, I I can and and it's
a real it's a very very real advantage that you
have you know, I remember talking to John Lynch about this,
and you know, this was you know, like this year,
there's years ago. But like John, when he got that
Niners job, I remember talking to him about the advantage
(26:21):
of having worked for Bops and like having gotten to
go inside every building in the league. And this is
when he didn't even know he was going to be
a GM, right, Like the GM thing kind of came
out of nowhere for him with the Niners. But you know,
he had the advantage at the time of getting to
see from the inside the way every team in the
league worked and things that he liked and things that
(26:42):
he didn't like about what they were doing. Then he
was able to apply those to to to how he
built out, you know, his personnel department in San Francisco,
and it helped Kyle Shanahan build a team there, you know.
And so yeah, I mean I think it's a very
very real thing, you know, and it shouldn't be underplayed.
And you know, I can even tell you like going
(27:02):
back like to the end of last year, after Josh
had been fired and Antonio Pierce as the interim coach.
You know, Tom Brady was at their last practice of
the year, and there was a feeling in that organization
at that time that he was going to have a
hand in the coaching search. Now obviously didn't really work
out that way, but Richard Seymour wound up on that
on that panel, And you don't think Tom had something
(27:23):
to do with that, you know, on the panel that
wounded up picking the head coach. So I think he
already has some level of influence in the Raiders organization.
And if I was another team, I you know, I
just like, I think Tom is going to try to
do the job on the level, and I think he's
be very focused on doing the best job he can
for Fox. But you certainly would be if you were,
(27:43):
you know, one of the other thirty one teams, I
think you would look at it and say, you know,
we've got to be a little bit careful about certain
things and what we say. While you know, a guy
who is legitimately under contract to buy a part of
the Raiders is in our building, Albert, I want.
Speaker 1 (27:59):
To ask you about just some contracts that are kind
of still out there, still looming. You know a number
of players, and obviously we don't have a ton of
time here, so I'll just try to go through them quickly,
like does anything happened with t Higgins at this point?
We talked about the wide receivers are ready, but about
quarterbacks like a Dak Prescott, Matt Stafford. You're seeing a
little bit about, you know, some of the contract issues
that they may be having right now with the Rams.
(28:21):
Just talk to me about who gets a deal done
before the season starts.
Speaker 11 (28:25):
So I think the T Higgins contract probably doesn't happen.
I think he probably holds out into August and shows
up right before the start of the year. I think
one of the main reasons why it's it's difficult for
the for the Bengals because you know, if you pay
T Higgins, then what do you give Jamar Chase right like?
And I think this is where maybe the Bengals have
to start making some choices. So my guess would the
(28:45):
T Higgins winds up playing playing out the year and
then playing somewhere where else, whether it's going somewhere to
the free agent or tag and trade. In twenty twenty five,
I think Brandon a Yuk's got a like decent chance
get an extension in San Francisco. If he winds up
getting an extension because they love him. There, does Deebo
(29:07):
Samuel become available? I think that that's a real question.
Speaker 5 (29:11):
You know.
Speaker 11 (29:11):
And then just as far as the quarterbacks, I think
it's interesting because you've got Trevor Lawrence, you got Dak Prescott,
you got Jordan Love and Tua, and you know, I
think all of those guys, maybe absent Dak, wind up
getting deals done. I think I think, you know, Trevor
might be the first one, then maybe Jordan Loved, then Tua.
(29:34):
The question I have with Dak, it's just I don't know, guys,
I'm like, I'm sort of starting to get this feeling.
Are the Cowboys with Dak now where like the Rams
were with Jared Goff in twenty twenty, which is like,
we love you and you've done a great job for
us and you've played great for us, but do we
sort of want to kind of keep our options open
(29:56):
and look around? I just you know, you look at
their actions in the way they've operated, and they still take
care of Ceedee Lamb and Micah Parsons, and I just
I you know, that one's kind of it just feels
like it's in a weird spot right now.
Speaker 2 (30:09):
Wow, that's an interesting comp same draft class too. Yeah
the bar you got another one?
Speaker 3 (30:16):
We no, no, we're good.
Speaker 5 (30:18):
Okay, so I'm looking at the clock.
Speaker 2 (30:19):
I got you two pros and a cup of Joe
here Fox Sports Radio. He's Albert Breer, senior NFL reporter,
lead content strategist at the m m QB. Get him
on Twitter at Albert Breer ay and I would ask.
Speaker 3 (30:29):
You a hundred questions.
Speaker 11 (30:30):
Ab you know what I mean?
Speaker 3 (30:32):
You were just short.
Speaker 11 (30:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (30:33):
I didn't want to make it se make yeah, no, no, no,
it's just the clock is is you know?
Speaker 3 (30:40):
I'm watching the.
Speaker 2 (30:42):
Yeah, the clock is the Uh well, Albert, let's do
again next week. Man, always fun.
Speaker 11 (30:48):
Thanks guys, I'm really sorry.
Speaker 5 (30:49):
By the way, how about Albert?
Speaker 1 (30:51):
No phone issues, nothing, no children in the background, no dog,
but hyped them up.
Speaker 5 (30:57):
And that was the greatest stuff.
Speaker 11 (31:00):
Of works in Nashville in a hotel room, that's why.
Speaker 5 (31:02):
So there you go.
Speaker 2 (31:03):
Yeah, I was gonna say, and since we're I mean,
is he still there? We still got Albert there?
Speaker 5 (31:09):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (31:10):
How how's the scene?
Speaker 11 (31:13):
The scene?
Speaker 5 (31:14):
This is good?
Speaker 2 (31:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (31:15):
Wait a second second, here's good.
Speaker 1 (31:18):
What work trip is you're on in Nashville?
Speaker 11 (31:21):
There's the owners meetings here. I'm going to visits nice today,
but they're the owners meetings is here the last of
two days?
Speaker 5 (31:27):
Did they have in Nashville?
Speaker 1 (31:28):
What Nashville these have like West Palm or somewhere like
sunny and well no whatever.
Speaker 11 (31:32):
But this is this is not the big one, the
big ones in March, so that's always like that's the
one that's in West Palm or at the Bilbourn in Arizona.
This is the this is the lower profile one. This
one actually. So the Tish family which owns a piece
of the Giants, they own the Low's Hotel chain, and
they just opened a Lowe's Hotel and right by Vandy
(31:54):
and so this meeting was there. Maybe that's why that's
the best explanation explanation and come up with. And the
Titans want to pimp out the new stadium too, that
was part of it. So I guess they took everybody
over to take a look at the They have a
thing called the Titans House where there's the new stadium
out there. Made me feel old too, because I ran
by the old stadium today and I was thinking to myself,
(32:16):
I was in college when the old stadium opened and
now they're tearing it down. So yeah, it made me
feel my years definitely.
Speaker 2 (32:23):
You know what gets yourself a throat burner and enjoy
the rest of your day.
Speaker 11 (32:26):
There you go, There you go. I think I might
need to go go get my back rolled out or
something very good.

Speaker 2 (35:12):
But they was right, Yeah was it big and rich?
Wasn't big and rich a country?
Speaker 5 (35:19):
Yeah? It still is. But yeah, wait, so what was the.
Speaker 4 (35:22):
Rich and shame? Rich and shameless?
Speaker 7 (35:24):
I mean they was showing the blurt bleeped out photos
of his dong like all kinds of stuff.
Speaker 5 (35:31):

Speaker 11 (36:17):
Ye?
Speaker 4 (36:17):

Speaker 4 (36:35):
So I'll hang out with my turtle today.

they're rocks with feet, the rocks with feet. I said,
do you know what? You're right? But you know, I
don't know a lot of rocks that eat lettuce. So
that's that's one thing they got bling for.
Speaker 3 (37:25):
Weren't turtles hair with the dinosaurs?
Speaker 2 (37:28):
Yeah? No, probably if you believe any of that mythology mythology.
Speaker 3 (37:32):
