Speaker 1 (02:09):
You know, we gotta give credit where credits due, all right,
Because there's one man, one man on this show who
called a shot. He saw how everything was playing out.
He saw what was happening in the world of the NBA.
He looked west. They said, no, no, no more.
Speaker 6 (02:26):
It is over.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
Dallas will win Game five and move on to the
NBA Finals.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
And that individual was the one and only LeVar.
Speaker 6 (02:34):
Arranted Did I say that? You did say that.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
In fact, on the opposite end was Jonahs Knox, who
guaranteed it was going to Game six. So for all
those out there who potentially took Jonas Knox's betting advice,
it's shame on you for following him after he continually
picks loosers.
Speaker 6 (02:52):
You should have been listening to.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
LeVar was not overly pleased with the amount of threes
taken by Karl Anthony Towns, which again last night.
Speaker 6 (03:01):
Which it was a bit of a factor.
Speaker 5 (03:05):
I mean, but he scored. I mean, he did put
the points up. It just wasn't any help. I mean
it was a two man show for Minnesota, which again
I think even with his points, it's just the way
he gets his points. It doesn't stress a team out enough.
It didn't stress the Dallas Mavericks out enough. Q And
(03:28):
And for what it's worth, it's not even that they
played a bad game yesterday because all intentsive purposes, Okay,
you didn't get NAS read any help from from NAS
or any other cast members outside of outside ant man
And and Karl Anthony Towns. I mean, Gobert could have.
He could have, you know, been inactive for all it mattered.
(03:51):
I mean, they just didn't get any other help. But
Kyrie and Luca they're playing at a level right now.
In that game, they played out a level where I
don't know that Minnesota's best would have been good enough
to beat them last evening. So it's kind of you
got to give a tap bit of credit, well a
(04:12):
lot of credit due to those two because they didn't
have any really supporting cast either. Know, they did it
what seventy two combined.
Speaker 6 (04:21):
Yeah crazy.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
I mean I will say this to your earlier point.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
I mean, no one for Minnesota was in double digits
outside of Karl Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards, who you
know did their part. But as you kind of pointed out,
three point shooting for Karl Anthony Towns a bid off
at least a comparison to Luca and Kyrie, which that
was one of the margins of difference.
Speaker 6 (04:40):
And also i'd say the.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
Bench points for Dallas just a little bit more depth there.
But bottom line is Dallas looked to me to be
the better team. We heard the words of Anthony Edwards
after their you know, first three losses and this didn't
feel like Dallas could beat them. I looked at the
other way, and I feel like this was maybe an
indication as to why the NBA is the way it
(05:03):
is with roster building. And I think when you go
back and look at the run that the Golden State
Warriors had, Granted, Draymond Green played a really big role,
but Steph Curry, Klay Thompson that backcourt and how it
led them at least, you know, in scoring three point shooting,
to a run of titles and to an amount of success.
Maybe that's what we're looking at here a little bit
(05:24):
with Dallas with the combination of Kyrie and Luca now
and what that means moving forward, if this team could
continue to build out around them, you know, with their
roster looking on in the future years now, they still
have to work cut out for them. You got to
take on the number one seed in the Boston Celtics,
which is a deep team, a very well coached team.
But I guess let me just kick it to this
(05:46):
early impressions. As far as LeVar, how you see Dallas
matching up with Boston for the NBA Finals.
Speaker 6 (05:54):
Well, I think it comes down to that.
Speaker 5 (05:57):
They've always said you got to have are That's what
they say. You gotta have a big three if you're
gonna win it all. Dallas has a big two. They
do not have a big three. My question going into
this Championship round is Ken, Kyrie and Luca play their
(06:21):
brains out every single evening. Now, I'll say this, I
don't know that this series stressed them out at all.
Speaker 6 (06:31):
So I don't I.
Speaker 5 (06:32):
Don't feel like they're coming into a series where they're
not going to have their energy and have their legs.
It wasn't like a bang bang, grinded out type of series.
You mentioned the the su Golden State Warriors, and you
mentioned Draymond Green.
Speaker 6 (06:49):
There was no Draymond Greens in this series.
Speaker 5 (06:52):
Other than Karl Anthony Towns kneeing light lively in the head.
Speaker 6 (06:56):
There was no.
Speaker 5 (06:57):
Bang bang, you know, throwdowns, grind it out like Is
that an intentional foul? Is that a technical foul? Is
that there was no real grinding going on in that series?
And so to end it in six, they're they're not
going to be overly extended physically, but what they're going
(07:23):
to go up against and in this Celtics team is
just a super super like you mentioned just a very
deep team. They have four guys that can cover, that
can play defense, that can play both sides of the court.
They could do two ways like you know and not
you know, pause, they can do. They can do both
(07:44):
sides of the court. Will say they can guard and
they can shoot, and they can score. This team they
will slash. They will go to the realm if if
the if the realm is where the game is, Boston
will take it to the realm. And that's going to
be to me, what Dallas is going to have to
(08:04):
show they can handle.
Speaker 6 (08:06):
They do have length.
Speaker 5 (08:07):
They you know, we've seen them show their length, and
we've seen Luca you know drive, and we've seen Kyrie
drive and them dish it off so many times for
easy you know, dunks and stuff like that. They have
shown they can do it. But if I would say
going into this championship round, what's the biggest challenge going
(08:27):
into it, It's going to be outside of Luca and Kyrie,
can the rest of this group bring something to the
table that gets them, that gets them over the hump
against a team that has four guys that you gotta guard.
I mean, Drew Holiday, he can get it done. I
(08:49):
mean that goes without saying Tatum and brown White is
a score. It's just it's a It seems as though
it should be a foregone conclusion that by then it
will be too much for Dallas.
Speaker 6 (09:03):
But who knows.
Speaker 5 (09:04):
I mean, with those two playing the way they're playing,
it could be an interesting It's gonna be interesting series regardless,
just because of the storyline that has developed between Kyrie
and Luca.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
Yeah, and really the matchups and then who for Dallas
could step up?
Speaker 6 (09:19):
And so it's a good point.
Speaker 1 (09:20):
I mean, it will be an interesting matchup to see
how Boston tries to defend Luca and Kyrie and try
to take them away. You know, most teams have a
game plan, but in the end, can you execute it
doesn't work the way Luca was shooting last night, I'm
not sure it does.
Speaker 5 (09:34):
It doesn't work. It's that whole old saying. You know,
you can't stop them. You can only hope to contain
the type of deal. Yeah, they're gonna have to take there.
They're gonna have to understand that Luca and Kyrie are
going to be Luca and Kyrie. But are those two,
while they were enough in this series, are those two
(09:55):
if I'm if I'm Boston. I'm not saying I'm totally
sold out on trying to stop those guys. I just
want to bang on them, right, I want to lean
on them, I want to touch on them. I want
to do a lot of things to try to disrupt
them and get into their heads. But we got to
if our four or five can keep up with their two,
(10:19):
our greater should be our greater. Some should be bigger
than theirs, and that should be enough. And I don't
know if that's how they're going to approach it, but
I would assume you're not looking at it like I'm
going to stop Luca and I'm going to stop Kyrie.
Speaker 6 (10:34):
So let's match that.
Speaker 5 (10:35):
If it takes four to match there too, then let's
take four to match there too.
Speaker 6 (10:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (10:41):
I think the other thing that was kind of evident
just from watching, you know, last night's matchup, and then
you touched on a little bit in regards to Rudy Gobert,
But it's one of the reasons why the game is
the way it is right now, where you see the
backcourt really dominate premier shooting.
Speaker 6 (10:53):
Et cetera.
Speaker 1 (10:54):
To build his score, you know, over even just having
a big man that outside of his defensive presence doesn't
work quite as well when you've got a smaller lineup
in there for Dallas or and you've got to spread
them out, and he can't protect the rim because he's
not able to, or if he does, he's allowing someone
else to be an open shooter on the outside. So unfortunately,
when we talk about the way these rosters are constructed
(11:16):
now in the NBA, you look at a bigger team,
a team that had more length that couldn't really do
much with it in the Minnesota Timberwolves when it's all
said and done, especially when the Dallas Mavericks are as
hot as they were in particular Luca and Kyrie like
last night.
Speaker 2 (11:30):
So it's it's a different agent in the NBA right now.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
But I feel like this version of Dallas it could
be interesting to see where it leads to in the future.
And if Mark Cuban, who I think is one of
the more likable owners in the NBA, maybe he's polarizing
to some degree.
Speaker 6 (11:46):
You've finally yeah, they show him really at any other time.
Speaker 1 (11:51):
You know what, though, I wonder how much of that
has to do with, you know, maybe his request to
not be on TV quite as much, you know, to
not be as part of it quite as much, only
because you know, he is his own brand now. I mean,
obviously he's well known for his business acumen and his success,
you know, winning a championship with Dirk Novinski. But he's
(12:11):
also noticed this guy is like a TV personality. He's
what advertisements, he's doing all this stuff. So yeah, I
wonder if there's an element of, hey, this is Luca,
this is Kyrie, this is making about the team. Don't
make it about me, even as much as sometimes maybe
he is in front of the camera.
Speaker 6 (12:26):
He just seems like that kind of guy. Seems like
a good guy. So guy, of.
Speaker 5 (12:31):
Course he's that guy. You know, we griss, you know,
we come from humble beginnings. Even though he lived in
like Upper Saint Clair, but he still said he delivered newspapers.
Speaker 2 (12:38):
Give us, give us a little taste of what Upper
Sinclair would be like.
Speaker 5 (12:41):
Hey, bruh, it just sounds like what it sounds like,
you know what I mean, upper says.
Speaker 2 (12:44):
It, Claire, if it was just Saint Clair would be
as nice.
Speaker 5 (12:48):
But well, now, because you know about don't you know
about Saint Clair, and don't they have a Saint Clair
and maybe.
Speaker 6 (12:53):
Not Saint Clair. What is it? Uh? Y'all got a
Saint Ignatius? Uh? What do y'all have?
Speaker 5 (12:57):
I feel like there's something else there, but no, I
say no. Saint Clair Village in Pittsburgh is very different
from Upper Saint Clair. Yeah, if you went to Saint
Clair Village, you see more of you know, my kind
of of people versus uh, you know, yeah, his kind
of people. And then it's supposed to make well. Saint
(13:21):
Clair Villages was was a little bit different. Bangers, Is
that what you're saying? A whole bunch of bangers?
Speaker 6 (13:27):
Actually? St Clair, not Upper sla. You ain't got no
bangers in Upper Saint Claire. That's that's that's kind of
ninja type stuff. You know.
Speaker 1 (13:36):
They put that that that pinky up when they' drinking a.
Speaker 5 (13:38):
Little when they say saying Upper Saint Clair, you're talking
about old money.
Speaker 6 (13:45):
That's that old money. That that that like McDonald's like
we created.
Speaker 5 (13:51):
Like we created the big mac money type money like
for real, for real, we invented gum type stuff. You know,
the person that invented chewing gum is from Pittsburgh, Like
the people that created the big Mac they're from Pittsburgh.
Speaker 6 (14:04):
Yeah, I didn't know that. There you go. Are those
good things for you?
Speaker 2 (14:07):
Though?
Speaker 6 (14:08):
I feel like gum and the big back now, but
became our pastime, right they used to cooking? Lord, you
know what I mean. Yeah, that's true. That's true.
Speaker 5 (14:18):
I'm just saying those are the people that live in
Upper Saint Clair, those type of.
Speaker 6 (14:22):
I guess you'd want to be known for that.
Speaker 1 (14:24):
But at the same time, maybe you're not advertising it
as much now anymore.
Speaker 6 (14:28):
At one like, yeah, I'm the gum guy. You know
you're chewing. I did that. I did.
Speaker 2 (14:32):
They're like, yeah, now because you cancer like I you know,
I didn't know that.
Speaker 6 (14:36):
I did not know that, you know, there you go,
there you go.
Speaker 1 (14:39):
Yeah. I do want to ask this question because it
is a Friday. We've got a lot going on a
big show today. By the way, as you mentioned earlier,
kind of our song, Petro's Papadakus will be joining us
for the final hour of today's show. So if you
listen on Wednesdays and you tune in or year the
(15:00):
guest segment that Petro's Papadakis comes in for, there's the
old p we'd like to call him. He'll be joining
us for the final hour to bring some more Shenanigans
to the show.
Speaker 6 (15:11):
But I can't help. But I feel like I'm missing something.
I know, missing something. I know what you miss.
Speaker 2 (15:17):
We had the NBA, you know.
Speaker 6 (15:19):
Now we've got the NBA Finals set.
Speaker 1 (15:21):
Uh last night game five, Panthers Rangers, Panthers pulled out.
Speaker 2 (15:25):
They're on top three to two in the NHL.
Speaker 1 (15:28):
Trying to the Kiats, trying to figure there's something missing though,
that's that's not Jonas either.
Speaker 6 (15:33):
We know he's missing. We've already said our happy birthday
to Jonas. It's a football Friday. It is Friday.
Speaker 5 (15:47):
Friday football, Lee, Lee, come on, come on, come on, Lorena,
come on, come on, Eddie, come on Eddie.
Speaker 1 (16:01):
It's Coop there, Coop there, it's Coop there.
Speaker 6 (16:05):
Come on, come on. Let's let's let's do Brady's favorite.
Let's do that favorite. Here is.
Speaker 5 (16:14):
Come on Friday night of the Football Friday. Now, Eddiefield,
this damn football Friday.
Speaker 6 (16:22):
Rock them, suck them. Yeah, score it, throw spy it.
Come on yeah, oh oh sorry, yeah, it's done. It's done.
Speaker 2 (16:31):
And Lee's not here as well.
Speaker 1 (16:32):
By the way, he went and took off for well,
you know, kind of producing, helping us out.
Speaker 6 (16:38):
Yeah, he's got it all.
Speaker 1 (16:40):
Coming to next up next on Two Pros and a
Cup of Joke come to you live from the tiraq
dot com studios. We've got an m v P, not
just one time, a two time m v P who
hasn't been around as much this off season. Does LeVar
have a problem with it? Let'll tell you on the
other side.
Speaker 3 (16:58):
Be sure to catch line editions of Two Pros and

Speaker 7 (17:29):

Speaker 8 (17:33):
Listen to This League Uncut with Chris Haynes and Mark Stein.
Speaker 7 (17:37):
On the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get
your podcasts.
Speaker 5 (17:43):
And money and money huh, and we really do is
this your song?
Speaker 6 (17:50):
LeVar Uh?
Speaker 5 (17:53):
I know the song for some strange reason. I have
no idea why I do.
Speaker 6 (17:57):
I have no idea what song? This? Says Lorena? What
song is this?
Speaker 8 (18:02):
It is Girls and Boys by Good Charlotte.
Speaker 6 (18:05):
Okay, DC Cats.
Speaker 1 (18:08):
I totally forgot about it, to be honest, did you?
Speaker 6 (18:11):
Yeah? I think I think I know why that's such
a banger.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
That's that's an interesting take on this one.
Speaker 1 (18:20):
So for those of you who are listening to podcast,
thank god you do not have to listen to this song.
Speaker 9 (18:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (18:26):
Really, that's what comes with taking over the chair for
Jonas is just bashing every single song that Lorena plays. So,
speaking of bashing, there's some criticism because you know, typically
when a player doesn't show up to OTA's it's not
that big of a deal. They're voluntary. It's not within
your contract, unless, for example, you've got a workout bonus,
(18:50):
which we kind of touched on a little bit yesterday.
You got to be there for those workouts for the
off season, if you will, a certain percentage of time
in order to.
Speaker 6 (18:57):
Get that money.
Speaker 1 (18:59):
What's interesting about this one, though, is there's not a
contract dispute, and in fact, the player just signed a
two hundred and sixty million dollars deal just a year ago.
And there's a certain stigma that comes along with a
position like quarterback, where even when you're not you don't
have to be there, you kind of expected to be there.
(19:19):
And so in this case, Lamar Jackson, who as we
saw earlier this offseason, has lost a lot of weight,
you know, a very big contrast from last year. He
put on a bunch of muscle mass to prepare himself.
Speaker 6 (19:31):
For the season.
Speaker 1 (19:33):
This year looks like I think they said he's lost
like twenty pounds something that ballpark. He's only been to
one of the five voluntary ots that they've had so far,
and so that's about you're about halfway there. I believe
you've got about what ten totals something like that, maybe
a little more.
Speaker 6 (19:50):
Either way.
Speaker 1 (19:50):
It's a bit concerning because if I asked you the question, LeVar,
how many other quarterbacks have you heard that are missing
OTAs that isn't due to injury or contract dispute or
something of that nature.
Speaker 6 (20:03):
Just off the top of my head, I'd say nothing.
Speaker 5 (20:05):
No, I don't, because you need your I mean to me,
that's what organized training, you know, That's that's what it's for.
Act those activities are for the quarterback, right. I mean
that's like the most important piece of any of the
mini camps or any of the OTA's or whatever.
Speaker 6 (20:27):
It may be. The training camps.
Speaker 5 (20:29):
It's so that your quarterback can get you know, his
timing down is his you know, it could be the
understanding more of the wrinkles of the playbook, because I
mean I feel like it's what they say, it's a
copycat league. So whatever you're copycatting and you're working on
as your new wrinkles for the upcoming season. I mean,
(20:49):
every moment you could get is being used to figure
out the timing, the familiarity, you know, the lingo, whatever
it may be. I just feel like that's kind of
of what it's all for. The rest of us are there,
you know as a support, Like the defense is there
for support. You know, we're learning and we're doing what
we're doing. So if you were to tell me any
(21:11):
other player on the field, and outside of maybe a
one receiver, like if you're saying, okay, Jamar Chase isn't
in right now, or you know somebody that's like that
type of guy like Justin Jefferson he's not in right
now or something to that capacity where you're looking at
the person that's going to be very vital to that
(21:32):
quarterback success. Then I think that you have conversations, right
like the Stefon Diggs situation, whatever it may be. But
if a quarterback isn't there, then you know it's like,
how are you doing OTAs anyway?
Speaker 6 (21:45):
Right? I mean? Am I wrong for that? Like? Now
are you doing OTAs anyway? If your quarterback isn't there?
Speaker 2 (21:50):
And I guess I'll go step further.
Speaker 1 (21:52):
When you have a unique, extraordinarily talented quarterback like Lamar Jackson,
know he's different the guy he's going to.
Speaker 2 (22:02):
Come in behind him, He's not that.
Speaker 6 (22:04):
You know.
Speaker 2 (22:04):
You look at the backups on the roster.
Speaker 1 (22:07):
They might have similar skill sets, right, they might also
be somewhat dynamic, but no one's Lamar.
Speaker 2 (22:13):
So no one's knees is going to be the same.
Speaker 1 (22:16):
The way they throw the football is not going to
be the same way he runs, the timing and all
of that. Any quarterback design runs things of that nature,
especially with a new running back. And Derrick Henry granted
a veteran, but a guy you still want to get
some of the chemistry with you know, the mesh point
all that, but.
Speaker 6 (22:30):
It's just not the same.
Speaker 1 (22:31):
And Todd Munkin came in as their offensive coordinator last year,
and I know he ended up winning the MVP, but
in large part because his stats weren't really challenged by
someone else who was on a winning team, who was
as dominant. You know, you put someone up next year
if he had the same stats, who's got better stats
and on a team that's winning a lot of football
(22:51):
games too, He's probably not winning that award. I mean,
that's just the reality of it is. He was good
within the offense, more fishing, but if you compare it
to us first MVP season, it's really not that close.
Speaker 6 (23:05):
You know.
Speaker 5 (23:05):
You know what it makes me think about At this point,
I start to think about do we have to reevaluate
how we view OTAs like whatever the mandatory camps are
and mandatory you know, participation deals are. I get that,
But do we start looking at OTA's anything that is
(23:30):
is not mandatory. Do we start looking at it differently?
Do we change our expectation? Because I almost feel like
it's a conversation that persists every single year and it's
generally around obviously the same time, because it's when OTAs
start to kick off and and and the training starts
to kick off for these teams, I just wonder, are
(23:51):
we because for me, the first thing I'm thinking of
is the Ravens keep coming up short.
Speaker 6 (23:56):
Right, So if if it's somebody.
Speaker 5 (23:58):
That, if it's a team, if it's a player where
you're looking at the team and it's like, okay, if
you said it was Patrick Mahomes, would you have an
issue with Patrick Mahomes not being at OTA.
Speaker 1 (24:09):
We tend to not have an issue with someone like
that because they're coming off to Super Bowls.
Speaker 6 (24:13):
He's been an MVP. Yeah issue. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (24:17):
So my thing is, have we conditioned ourselves to automatically
immediate immediately going into this realm of maybe not being
so positive about, you know, if you're not there for
organized training, Like, hey, you got MVP of the league,
but that doesn't mean you shouldn't be here for organized
(24:37):
training because y'all didn't win it all. Like you're you
guys still haven't gotten over that hump, so to speak.
In Baltimore, I almost feel as though maybe we're inundated
with with the whole you know, non mandatory participation type stuff,
voluntary participation type stuff. And I don't feel as though,
(24:59):
I mean, didn't he what was it a year ago
that he got his extension?
Speaker 6 (25:03):
He just got it, right, two hundred and sixty million dollars.
Speaker 5 (25:06):
And then he gets MVP. Now he hadn't been around,
He wasn't around that that year before, right, And everybody
was going crazy about what does this mean? And is
he going to end up somewhere else? And da da
da so on and so forth, YadA YadA YadA. He
goes and wins the MVP. So I don't know if
we're if we're looking at it fully the right way
(25:29):
in terms of what it may or may not do
or dictate to, you know, how the player and how
the team plays.
Speaker 6 (25:36):
I'm not sure. Well let's do this.
Speaker 1 (25:38):
Let's throw the sound of John Harball because we've kind
of set our piece, and I do want to play
the other side of this conversation, you know, as a player,
And I'll give you another example of a former MVP
who did something very similar.
Speaker 6 (25:50):
But let's hear from John Harbar first. Expected.
Speaker 10 (25:53):
Yeah, it's just it's this time of year, now, you
know what, it's a voluntary time it's really not something
that we comment on. You can't and that's just the
time of here it is. So I can't speak for
anybody that's out here. You know, I pretty much know
the different reasons guys aren't here most of the time
and not always, you know, they're not albody's required to
tell you exactly what's going on, So I'm not really
specifically gonna be able to comment on anybody that way.
Speaker 1 (26:18):
That's Sean Harball, the head coach for the Baltimore Ravens,
so really clearly a whole lot there.
Speaker 5 (26:23):
That's clearly a player's coach, though, right, because if he
has any if he has any type of hard feelings
towards it or concerns about it, that's not the form.
And I think he did kind of make I don't
want to be speak out of term because I just
feel like maybe I do remember him saying maybe something
(26:44):
during the contract time that may have made you go
down the road like was that the right thing to say?
Type stuff? But I don't recall correct, so I won't
say that. But if you're going to be maintaining a
healthy relationship with your franchise guy, that's the way you're
supposed to respond.
Speaker 1 (27:04):
Yeah, and I think you know you loved hearing that
as a player, because those are some of the things
that are fought for within the collective bargain agreement is
your ability to not have to be here. And just
from the player's perspective, you just touched on it. He
didn't show up last year, granted more about the contract
dispute and what did that equates to an MVP? Who
else has been criticized at times for not being around
(27:26):
during the NFL offseasons.
Speaker 2 (27:28):
Aaron Rodgers, Aaron Rodgerson. Some of those seasons it's led
to an MVP.
Speaker 1 (27:31):
So you know, it's not saying that it's not going
to lead to his individual performance playing at the highest
level of the league. We've seen guys miss time and
do that. I just think as a society on the outside,
there's a certain thought that if you can be there
as a leader, you should be there working with your
teammates because you might be off on your own training
(27:53):
and you might be getting the best training for you,
but is it the best training for your team.
Speaker 6 (27:58):
I think there's a.
Speaker 1 (28:00):
School thought that, well, what's best for you is going
to be best for the team. But there also might
be a thought of, well, you know, at the end
of the day, the Ravens haven't been able to achieve
that next Super Bowl. You know, even even with the
MVPs that Aaron Rodgers had over the course of time,
is with the Green Bay Packers, they still winning super Bowls.
You know, he was playing great, but it wasn't like
(28:20):
the rest of the team was able to rally up
around him enough to win Super Bowl. So I think
when you have these rare opportunities in the offseason to
get together and actually practice and build upon that that
first year of an NFL offense with Todd Munkin, you'd
like to be able to have the opportunity to be
back out there again building on that and then with
some of the new pieces you've added on, you know,
(28:42):
developing chemistry with them. Yes, you've got mini camp, which
I'm sure he'll be there for. Yes you've got training camp.
But there's there's certain elements where you'd say, maybe you
want to be there and maybe if you don't even
take as many reps. You know, just because you're there,
it doesn't mean you have to necessarily practice all the time.
You know, while I was in the Seattle Seahawks back
in twenty thirteen, Marshaun Lynch was there. He didn't take
(29:05):
that many practices, you know, it didn't take any reps
during practice, But I'll tell you this much. He was
training his tailoff outside of the facility with everything he
was doing like he was ready when the season came
around that year. But he didn't necessarily have to do
it in practice put himself through that. So there's different
ways of doing it. For whatever reason, this is Lamar
Jackson's way. Look, it worked last year, ended up in
(29:26):
an MVP. We'll see what ends up looking like this year.
But I want to make sure I told you guys
about this. You know, Thoroughbred Racing has a new independent regulator, HEISA.
It's implementing comprehensive reforms, and the sport is combining hands

We go, Yeah, it's Friday, Lorena.
Speaker 6 (32:48):
Who is this?
Speaker 3 (32:49):

Yep.
Speaker 5 (32:53):
Okay, sounds like some drinking and smoking music to me.
Speaking of drinking smoking. Shortly after the show, our podcast

Now it's time for a little something. We call this.
Speaker 3 (33:23):
Sometimes you can't get to everything in the world of
sports or entertainment. Good thing. The guys are here to
bring you in case.
Speaker 1 (33:31):
You missed it, and sitting in for Lee de Lap
is Shay, who's taken over the producing for today. So Shae,
I gotta say, man, you're stepping into some big shoes
filling in for Lee today with reason in case you
missed it segment.
Speaker 8 (33:46):
Oh yeah, definitely. I don't know if I could fill
the shoes, but I can definitely try. Good morning, guys,
It's great to be here with you.
Speaker 6 (33:52):
Good morning.
Speaker 8 (33:53):
But yeah, let's get right into it. So Dwight Howard
is apparently trying to pull an ice cube, but the
eight time NBA All Star Howard field in an Instagram
post on Thursday that he's joining the Taiwan Mustangs. Howard
will be both a player for the Mustangs and an
owner of their league. The Mustangs will also be competing
in the Asian Tournament later this year. If you want
to see the former NBA star in action.
Speaker 6 (34:13):
M huh.
Speaker 1 (34:14):
So he's basically Will Ferrell's character in Semipro Recky Moon.
He's a player, owner, general manager, does the whole thing.
Speaker 6 (34:24):
He'll do it at all. Yeah.
Speaker 8 (34:25):
So he'll he'll be owning the actual league, not just.
Speaker 6 (34:28):
The team, the league league.
Speaker 8 (34:31):
And then on top of it, he'll be playing for
a team. So I'm not sure how that's possible, and
I don't know the schematics of it. I don't know
how it's gonna work, but he's doing it. I mean,
it's Dwight Howard. He's he's kind of paving the way.
For a lot of these players. So we'll see what happens.
Speaker 2 (34:46):
I mean, paving the way for a lot of players
with this.
Speaker 6 (34:50):
I don't know. I don't know.
Speaker 5 (34:52):
I mean it sounds it sounds good. It sounds intriguing, like,
oh nice, you're doing business, this, that and the other.
Speaker 6 (34:57):
But how good is the league? What? Like?
Speaker 5 (35:00):
Hopefully he went through all his due diligence on it,
and you know it's a good move. I mean, didn't
they take over an arena league team and all kinds
of stuff? And I don't know. Sometimes it's just all good.
All money ain't good money, that's all I'll say. I mean,
I don't know that that's a good way of putting it.
(35:20):
All money, I'll put it this way. My mind wanders
to the betting markets, and.
Speaker 6 (35:25):
I'm like, all right, he owns the league. Is he
gonna be playing in this? If he's playing in it?
Speaker 1 (35:29):
All of a sudden, he's he's looking at the ref like,
hey man, that was a foul. The ref's like, you're right,
if it was a foul, I mean, where does it stop?
Like right, he honestly could have a huge all this, Yeah,
I pay you, like I'm the one who pays you man, like.
Speaker 6 (35:43):
That's a foul.
Speaker 5 (35:46):
Dwy Hour gonna be looking like he should be back
in the NBA because ain't nobody getting in his weight.
Speaker 2 (35:52):
I was just gonna say, like your points, yeah, get
like a under the night.
Speaker 1 (35:57):
And by the way, no disrespect to the basketball leagues
in Taiwan and the Asian Tournament that will happen later
this year, but.
Speaker 2 (36:05):
I'd hope Dwight Howard could dominate those leagues, all right.
Speaker 1 (36:09):
I mean, unless I'm being wrong, unless I'm missing the
fact that maybe they've got.
Speaker 2 (36:13):
Some like really dope leagues that he's.
Speaker 1 (36:15):
Gonna got some stiff competition in, and maybe that's what
he's looking for. But that being said, there still could
be some corrupt things going on when you own the
league but also are playing in it. I mean, you
could be shaving some points here and there. There's just
too many things that I don't know that just seems
like a disaster for me.
Speaker 6 (36:34):
Good for you, Dwight Howard, Shaye, what else we get?
Good love?
Speaker 8 (36:37):
So yeah, good luck to Dwight Howard and the Taiwan Mustangs.
Speaker 2 (36:40):
Next.
Speaker 8 (36:41):
Yeah, if there wasn't a big enough spotlight on the
Chicago Bears, already heading into twenty twenty four NFL season,
HBO's cameras will be heading into the Bears training camp
after they were chosen for the next Hard Knock squad.
Speaker 6 (36:53):
Is this a good thing? Le Ooh, that's a great question.
Speaker 5 (36:58):
I'm definitely interested, and it's an intriguing team because this
could go either way. This could go extraordinarily well and
you could be crowning a new megastar in the league,
or it could be just much of the same. Yeah,
So I think it's definitely that's definitely more interesting to
(37:21):
want to tune in and turn on and see what's
going on than most other teams.
Speaker 1 (37:26):
I say that, I will say this for Caleb Williams,
who is the number one overall pick a household name,
who's won the Heisman Trophy. These young people are as
prepared as ever for you know, when the cameras are
around and they have extra people filming them.
Speaker 2 (37:44):
I mean, their entire life.
Speaker 6 (37:45):
Young life, young adult life for that.
Speaker 1 (37:47):
Matter, has essentially been around always being filmed. So I
don't know that Hard Knocks being president at training camp
as as big of a distraction as it used to be.
I think what becomes a distraction from Hard Knocks as
the ancillary effects, meaning what little blurbs getting played out
that we see that we wouldn't normally see that then
(38:09):
become talking points, debate points that come out in the media,
and then they have the answer for them later on.
Like that's the distraction of Hard Knocks. It's not the
fact that they're sitting back in your position, you know,
meeting rooms or team meeting rooms or around locker room,
et cetera, hearing all that stuff.
Speaker 6 (38:26):
Yeah, I mean, I think it is a great point.
Speaker 5 (38:28):
But if I'm talking entertainment value, where we have clearly
been very critical of Hart Knocks and what its relevance
is and where it you know, where it should be
versus where it's at, I think this is this is
a win for Hard Knocks for certain I think it's
a win.
Speaker 6 (38:46):
Share we got one more. We do so.
Speaker 8 (38:50):
Following a one hundred and twenty four hundred three game
five blow out on Thursday night, Mavericks All Star guard
Luca Doncis has been the most valuable player of the
Western Conference Finals, winning this year's Irban Magic Johnson Trophy.
Luka Doncics tried to hand the trophy off to break
out star Derek Lively the second, but ultimately accepted the reward.
Speaker 1 (39:06):
Yeah, I mean, nice move by Lucas. It's probably why
he's kind of beloved.
Speaker 6 (39:10):
In some ways. But he deserved it.
Speaker 1 (39:14):
I mean, Lively played well in a support role, right,
like a supporting actor, but he wasn't the lead. It
was Lucas night. Last night, Kyrie played as well. It
was right there, just just playing just about as well.
Speaker 5 (39:26):
I mean, his head should get an MVP award for
certain you know, for durability. I mean they continued to hit.
Is his head that big? Yeah, they just kept hitting
his head. They hit his head last night. MVP Most
Valuable Head.
Speaker 6 (39:45):
Pause
