Speaker 1 (00:01):
It's the best of two pros and Lamar rings rating
Winn and Jonas knots on radio.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
So I'm a little insulted. Why you give me the
look you give me when I pull into the parking?

Speaker 3 (00:23):
Oh my gosh, why do I give you the look
that I give you? You just shaking your head every time
I roll in the parking Because every time you one
more day with that truck is one more time for
you to get that look from me. I'm gonna shame
and look you until you get a different vehicle, bro,
That's why. Yeah, but with the vehicle comes the theme song.

(00:46):
I mean that. No, I don't think we lose the
theme song because that's that theme song is the essence
of who you are. That's not just your truck. So
once the truck is gone, and that's just like a
memory of you know something, that physical representation of of

(01:06):
who you are. The song is who you are.

Speaker 4 (01:09):
Damn.

Speaker 3 (01:10):
Yeah. Man, Well listen now. I hope you get a
new vehicle soon, though I don't like you don't need
to have your in laws always coming over. That is
not the reason why you should marry. You shouldn't marry
for for vehicle. You know, assistance and maintenance. It's not okay,

(01:33):
it's not okay, man going We're going for it this morning,
going for it.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
But you know what, I don't even know what you're
talking about. Well, look is what it is, and we will.
We will figure that out at some point and eventually,
at some point, probably soon, that'll be a conversation that
has had. I was thinking about this though, because obviously

(02:03):
we put a bow on the NBA Finals. We did,
and it's over. Season, is over the Celtics or in
Miami doing god knows what. They're probably still awake right now.
Like if they went to Miami to party for a
few days before the parade, I would say, what's the
is it eleven? Is that the club in Miami that's
opened twenty four hours a day. I mean they're probably, yeah,
they're probably tearing it up as we speak, on a

(02:27):
full blown bender. And then you got the parade coming
up on Friday. I believe that's going to be a mess.
I mean they're gonna be throwing booze at him left
and right, like the whole thing is going to be
fun to watch.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
But I was thinking about this.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
If you're one of the exes, how you feeling like
if you're somebody like Marcus Smart, who had been there
his entire career, had been close, played in the finals
a couple of years ago, and then you get traded
away the off season before they finally win an NBA championship,

(03:02):
How the hell do you think that's sitting with him?
That's gotta suck. Were you part of the problem? Were
you holding them back?

Speaker 3 (03:10):
I mean, you gotta have some little self accountability there,
you know, some introspective moments.

Speaker 4 (03:17):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
I mean, you were two games away from winning the
finals two years ago with him, You were in a
game seven of the Eastern Conference Finals last year like Jared.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
GoF, Right, like GoF, you make it to the super Bowl,
you just weren't good enough to win it. That's got
a bit like how would that look?

Speaker 4 (03:35):
Like? How would that?

Speaker 2 (03:37):
Because you were with the Giants but you retired and
then they ended up there.

Speaker 3 (03:40):
And that went so it was like, was I just
not good enough for us? But I actually got hurt?
So I wasn't. I wasn't participating enough to matter.

Speaker 2 (03:48):
Well, But it was also they made a decision to
move on from those guys like a Marcus Smarter Jared Goff,
you retired, well, so.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
Yeah, yeah, it was kind of both though, both.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
Like Udoka who was the head coach of the Celtics
a couple of years ago when they were in the finals,
and then he's.

Speaker 3 (04:06):
The one that probably feels like crap, honestly, I mean
because because I mean really was what was what you're
doing was worth you sacrificing where this team is now.
I don't let me see how she looks. Hold on,
I don't I would venture to say it probably wasn't
worth it. I don't think so. No, I mean, you

(04:29):
were in a dope relationship with you know, and I
don't like getting into that type of personal business. All
I'm gonna say is because I was really about to
go down that lane. Yeah, I'm not gonna do why not,
I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to jump,
you're going I'm not going to Uh. I would just
say this, he's probably sitting somewhere sick like that was

(04:55):
my team and.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
Well, and there was a lot of people that were
saying last year when and they came up short that
a lot of the things that he specialized in defense
is where they sort of fell apart. Last year, and
that's why, you know, Joe Mizzula got so much heat
and there was so much pressure on him because it
was like he may Udoka had this team two games
away from an NBA championship and you just were underwhelming

(05:19):
in big time spots all year. And so the thought was,
with emy Udoka, with last year's team, a year experience,
another year experience for Tatum and all those guys being
in the finals the year before, maybe that's an NBA
Finals team again. And then they came up short in
Game seven, and the thought was, well, with emy Udoka,
that team would have gone farther than what they.

Speaker 3 (05:40):
Did last year.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
And so yeah, he's one of those guys who's probably
sitting there going damn, man, like do you just not watch?
Do you not turn on the TV?

Speaker 4 (05:50):
Do you not?

Speaker 3 (05:51):
Like I remember watching the Super Bowl that next year.
I would have gotten slaughtered during that game. I was
pretty sick, Like I was like, damn, we're going to lose.
And for some reason, I was like, you know, I
was like I felt better, like We're not winning this

(06:12):
game the entire time pretty much, so I'm watching it
and it's like I'm sick that I didn't get a chance.
I was that close to being on a team that
was going to play in the Super Bowl. But I'm
sitting there. I was like, man, it's my luck, like
i'd be there, and it's just like, what's going on
right now. We're losing to a team that's going to
go undefeated. They're going to go undefeed it and you know,

(06:34):
here's what it looks like if I'm playing out there
in my mind and then they win, Oh, it's like damn, Like,
you know, the team that I was supposed to be
on this year for my second year and in the
contract and with the team I leave and they win

(06:54):
in the Super Bowl, and they do it in a
fashion that is one of the most memorable fast the
helmet catch plexico icing them at the end of the game,
and Tom Brady and company, Randy Moss, they were undefeated.
You knocked off the undefeated New England Patriots. And for

(07:16):
what it's worth, if we want to take it a
step further, I had a seven year contract, so I
would have been there for two super Bowls. I would
have got two super Bowls. If if it plays out,
I'm healthy and we're playing this that and the other
two Super Bowls. So yeah, I can understand, you know,

(07:36):
the feeling of what it feels like to see a
team that you were on when it the very next
year you're not on the team. And I didn't have, like,
I don't I doubt Marcus Smart sitting somewhere like feeling
as though, like, God, this team was you know, you know,
going to be better off without me or anything like that.
I don't. I don't think. I don't think you have

(07:58):
the thought process. I know I didn't have the thought
process like, yeah, you know, they would have been better
with me type deal. I didn't feel that way. And
maybe it was just because of where I was at
in my career, but I just I wasn't looking at
them like, you know, this team isn't going to be
as good without me. I mean I made what five
games with them, and they ended up going to the

(08:19):
playoffs still that year. So the very next year then
they come back and they won it all. I mean,
you can have feelings, you can have feelings towards it,
because that would pitch me off man, especially if you
don't have any you don't have any championships, you know,
you don't. That's like something that you want. It's like

(08:42):
one of the main things that you want. Like people
ask do you want to have personal awards or do
you want to have team awards? You know why, you
would love to have personal awards, you know, get Pro
Bowls or being All Pro and stuff like that, and
be recognized for how well you play. I ultimately fall
on the side of probably most as I played football.
You want those team awards, not me. I want to

(09:04):
win the super Bowl, man. I want to play for
the super Bowl. I want to play in the super Bowl.
I want to try to win the super Bowl. I
want to win the Super Bowl. I'd rather have I'd
rather have six seven super Bowl rings and know that
I contribute it the way that I did, versus have
a whole bunch of All Pros and Pro Bowls with
no real success as a team. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (09:25):
What Kobe Bryant say, There's no I in team, but
there's no me. Yeah, that's why I roll. I'm like
Eric dickers. I'm like Eric Dickerson with a say, hey,
would you give up your Hall of Fame ring for
a Super Bowl ring?

Speaker 3 (09:36):
He's like absolutely not, No, No, I would not.

Speaker 5 (09:40):
No.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
I'm good here. I just I wonder though, Yeah, but
he doesn't have any Super Bowls.

Speaker 3 (09:44):
Because I'll tell.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
You this right now, if I was Marcus Smart, not
only would I have been rooting against the Celtics in
the NBA playoffs, I would have risked my career to
gamble against them and get caught just because I was
that much of a red ass about them dealing me
away when they did. And listen, they've been kind and
pleasant and with their compliments about him, you know, in

(10:07):
his time there, and he was a great Celtic and
he had a.

Speaker 3 (10:10):
Great run, and there's a lot of great moments.

Speaker 2 (10:11):
He actually was the glue that kept that team together
when there was a lot of times they came up short.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
But dam you put in.

Speaker 2 (10:17):
All that time, you hustled, he was diving on the
floor like he was a Celtic. And then the very
next season they win a championship.

Speaker 3 (10:26):
I just was holding them back, like I just wonder.

Speaker 4 (10:31):
I just wonder.

Speaker 3 (10:32):
That's got to be a rough and a tough pill
to swallow.

Speaker 2 (10:35):
But nonetheless, that'll conclude our coverage of the NBA this year.
We will talk to you again coming up in October
or unless you know, Brownie James goes number one overall
and we're.

Speaker 3 (10:44):
Forced to talk about it. Well, there's still WNBA Talk.

Speaker 2 (10:48):

Speaker 3 (10:54):
Just to go ahead and appease.

Speaker 2 (11:45):
So your son is sought after. The finalists are UCLA,
Tennessee and Penn State to play college football.

Speaker 3 (11:53):
How is the announcement going to be done? I don't know.
Does he put on one hat and then throw it
off and put on another. You know, I think that's corny,
but I don't, I don't know, it's also what he
wants to be disrespectful as well too well. I mean,
I don't know, they've been really good visits. I mean,
I think Deshaun wat, Deshaun watch, Deshaun Foster and and

(12:15):
company at u c l a super impressive what what
he's been doing since since taking over the program, that
he definitely has the culture of the place going in
the right direction. Then Coach Hypel at Tennessee, I mean

(12:38):
super impressive. I mean, I've never been to Tennessee, never
been to Knoxville. If you ever look up the amount
of dope ass football players that came from Tennessee, there
are a lot. Yeah, there are a ton of notable,
big name players that have come from out of that program.

(13:00):
And you know, Hypel has has done an excellent job
of the recovery process from when they had some you know,
some tough moments, not not too long ago, maybe two
three years ago. What he's doing there is pretty pretty amazing,
super impressive. And obviously, you know, if you know me,

(13:20):
you know how I feel about Penn State. So I
don't know. Man, it's going to be a tough one.
It's going to be a tough one for him because
I think in a lot of ways Tennessee is I
think I think they can be super super competitive and
it's a it would be a great fit for his
skill set. But I think, you know, looking at looking

(13:44):
at UCLA, he could be I mean, he could be
like the guy for U C l A on defense.
You know, the way the schematically, the way they play,
he could be the guy and their defensive coordinator good.
I mean, it's just it's it's going to be hard.
It's going to be hard. It's going to be a

(14:04):
hard one because if he chooses anything but Penn State,
Penn Staters are going to feel like they're going to
be upset. If people are going to be like, you
support our program, You're always here, dadad So it's good
enough for you, but it's not good enough for your side.
I don't know. There's all kinds of different emotions that
I'm feeling about it. But ultimately he's got to make
the decision that's that's best for him. When is there

(14:26):
a deadline no to make it?

Speaker 4 (14:28):
Is there?

Speaker 3 (14:29):
I mean, he's going to be an early and roll league.
He's going to graduate early. It'll be done in December.
So he'll go get and rolled wherever it is he
decides to go.

Speaker 2 (14:39):
So, I don't know, maybe he makes the announcement on
November eleven.

Speaker 3 (14:43):
Maybe we bring him on the show and that's the
show with us.

Speaker 2 (14:46):
Yeah, I mean that's a hell of an idea. If
he will he be up at this hour to be
able to make the decision.

Speaker 3 (14:52):
I doubt it.

Speaker 2 (14:54):
That'd be pretty sweet if we could get him to
make the decision on the show, that's awesome.

Speaker 3 (14:59):
All right, Well, listen, that's to look forward to.

Speaker 2 (15:00):
Yeah, I mean I was thinking November eleventh, eleven eleven.
You know, maybe that would be uh, you know that
woul kind of be an indicator as to where he chooses.
But you know, we'll get to see, uh, get to
see where man man gets to go play.

Speaker 3 (15:13):
Well, it's gonna be fun.

Speaker 2 (15:15):
Uh it is two pros and a cup of Joe
here on Fox Sports Radio. Here's what else is fun?
Monitoring the situation in Cleveland when it comes to a quarterback,
Deshaun Watson. All right, so you mentioned Deshaun Foster. We
now transitioned to Watson to a Deshaun Watson.

Speaker 3 (15:31):
Who's been in the news for other reasons. Both one
carried a football, another one carried a tao. You know, damn.
This hasn't carried the Cleveland Browns team yet though he
was waiting on that.

Speaker 2 (15:48):
Andrew Berry, the GM of the Cleveland Browns, he spoke
about Deshaun Watson and actually while he was on the
Insiders with the NFL Network, UH, he's optimistic about where
DeShawn is that after going through the surgery last season
to try and repair his arm ailments.

Speaker 5 (16:05):
First and foremost, DeShawn has really worked his tail off,
you know, during the rehabilitation process over the past several months.

Speaker 3 (16:11):
He's really actually ahead of schedule.

Speaker 5 (16:13):
He he's really chomping at the bit, uh to take
the governor off, so to speak. But really he's had
a he's had a really nice spring. He's thrown the
ball well, did a really nice job during our seven
on seven and ten periods during this veteran mini camp.
So we're excited as he gets into into training camp
and we get the pads on. But he's he's making

(16:35):
excellent progress. And honestly, if you didn't know he got
hurt last year. You really wouldn't be able to tell
the difference. So we're we're very excited once uh, once
camp starts.

Speaker 2 (16:43):
So that was Andrew Barry Brown's jam talking about the
status of Deshaun Watson.

Speaker 3 (16:48):
You know what, the most the coolest thing about sports
is that you can say all those things you're going
to find out, Yeah, like you can't put all all
like it's it's it's it's an interesting question to answer
to yourself. Do you tell the truth? Do you embellish

(17:09):
the truth or do you just flat out lie? And
regardless of whatever it is that you do, you should
probably ultimately give yourself some space and some room for
plausible deniability. You know you you just want to be
able to say, listen, that's that's what we felt, that's
what we thought, that's what it looked like, that's what

(17:32):
we hoped for it to be. It just didn't turn
out that way. Or I told you, I told you
soos are the best. I mean, nobody likes it. I
told you so person, you know, because it just comes
across as like, you know, it's unnecessary, but you'd rather
be a I told you, I told you this was
going to happen with Deshaun Watson. I told you he

(17:52):
was looking good. I told you he had a strong spring.
I told you that's what they're looking for in Cleveland,
and they really he really needed in a lot of ways.
One because if he can play at the caliber and
the level that he was playing at one point in Houston,
you would have to believe that this Cleveland Browns team,
with all the other talent that they have on the roster,

(18:15):
is really in great position to do something well, yes,
the north right, yes, but if he doesn't, if it's
a well we thought he was, or we hope that
it was what we thought it was, and it doesn't
turn out that he continues to play, or makes it
through the season, or is impactful with the way that
he plays, it's always going to come back to the

(18:36):
fact that they negotiated against themselves. They gave out one
of the most outrageous contracts that's been ever done in
the history of the league, fully guaranteed, and your ROI
on him has been minimum at best. If that's where
they end up, that's a hard one. That's a hard

(18:58):
one to grasp. It's a hard one to digest, especially
if you are that fan base because you can't. Deshaun
Watson is a topic for Cleveland Brown's fans and the
community that just doesn't. It's not going to go away easily.
There's going to have to be someone that answers for

(19:18):
that decision. If he doesn't, if he doesn't pan out,
I would assume.

Speaker 2 (19:23):
So we've talked about this before. The best ability is availability. Correct,
that's what they say. All right, you gave a fully
guaranteed contract to a guy whose biggest issue has been availability,
Like he like twice in his career, he started every
game in a season. Other than that, there's injuries, there's

(19:48):
you know, suspensions because of the weird stuff that was
going on in his personal life. Like there's always something
that pops up. And I look at it and I go,
all right, Well, if you just base your projection on
what this season is going to look like, strictly on
what you know to be a fact about Deshaun Watson's career,

(20:12):
he's going to miss time. At the very least, he's
going to miss some time, which is why I look
at it and I go, yeah, we're going to see
Jameis Winston at some point. And when Mary Kay Cabot,
who I know, you know, we're big fans of her
work here on this show, and she's been pretty spot
on about the entire situation and what happens in Cleveland.

Speaker 3 (20:36):
Okay, but.

Speaker 2 (20:40):
Ain't that while yeah, man, but she was the one
to point it out on a podcast a few weeks
ago that said, Look, they're at the point to where, if,
for whatever reason, he's not the player they think he is,
they're not going to hesitate sitting him and giving Jameis
Winston a shot. Like they're at that point. And so
I'll get it, and I go as you said. You

(21:03):
can say whatever you want about his development and where
he's at now recovering from the injury, But if we
just go based on everything that we've seen from him,
not only in his time in Cleveland but also previous
to that, like the odds are he's going to miss time,
like he's not going to be there, which still goes
back to the question of you gave that contract to

(21:24):
somebody who's not a guarantee, like you gave a guarantee
contract to anything but a guarantee, And they're sitting here
with a Super Bowl roster and the biggest question mark
they have is the biggest contract on their team.

Speaker 3 (21:38):
Just amazing, by far, the biggest contract on their team.
You know, again, that's sports, and make you make high
risk maneuvers, you make expensive maneuvers. Sometimes you make inexpensive
I mean, think about it. It's the total opposite in Pittsburgh,

(22:00):
right Like, you got two quarterbacks that you could easily
do whatever you you know, you could discard them, you
could keep them, you could whatever.

Speaker 2 (22:09):
They're literally paying a six pack of rolling rock and
some funions for Justin Fields and Russell.

Speaker 3 (22:14):
Wilson together, put together whatever if it works, and and
and yet you'll get probably in theory, you could possibly
get more production from both of those quarterbacks than what
you get from Deshaun Watson. I would make that bet
right now.

Speaker 2 (22:34):
I would make that bet right now the Steelers get
Steelers get better quarterback play out of whoever they got
going than Deshaun Watson this year.

Speaker 3 (22:43):
Dang. I mean think about that, and and and for
what it's worth, he has the opportunity to turn it around,
right Like, That's the beauty of sports as well, is
you can have non believers and what it is that
you're capable of doing, and you can you can dictate
what the outcome is. It doesn't have to rest on

(23:07):
the fact that I'm sitting here or you're sitting here,
and we're saying, Okay, I don't have any type of
belief that Deshaun Watson is going to ever be the
type of quarterback that led to him getting the contract
that he received in Cleveland. You're saying that you make
the bet that there's going to be more production from
the quarterback out of Pittsburgh, whichever one it is that's

(23:30):
getting it. I'm sad you could possibly get both quarterbacks
having more production, Like both of them may have more
production during the course of the season. Just based off
of if you think that Deshaun Watson is going to play.

Speaker 2 (23:43):
So and you have said this and you've maintained this,
you don't think he wants to play.

Speaker 3 (23:48):
I just you just I mean, he's very nonchalant, and
so it could be a misinterpretation, it could be a
misread of of what his desire level is. But the
way he looked in the games, and how he talked
and and and just his response to to how certain

(24:10):
things unfolded, it just to me, I got the vibe
that he you know, if I can play, I can play.
If I can, I can't. And if that's if that's
where you're at, then you're you're not really in it.
You're not You're not really really in it. So I
don't know. I mean, we're gonna find out, that's the

(24:30):
thing about it. We're going to find out if he doesn't,
if he doesn't play much this season, I think it's
safe to say Deshaun Watson doesn't want.

Speaker 2 (24:39):
To play football man that first game Brown's Cowboys with
Tom Brady on the call, I would. I can't wait
to see what the ratings are for that game when
it comes out, because there are so many reasons to
watch that, like Deshaun Watson to see how he performs.
You know, in this season is obviously a big storyline.

(25:01):
Dak Prescott going into basically his final year as a
Cowboys quarterback potentially that's a big storyline. Plus it's the Cowboys.
And then on top of that, Tom Brady calling his
first game of the regular season for Fox. That is
a monster game.

Speaker 3 (25:16):
And it'll be interesting to hear what he has to
say about those quarterbacks because he's not gonna pull punches.
He's definitely not. He's definitely not. So it's going to
be interesting to hear, Yeah, because I'm very critical at
times and it could almost come across as very negative.
But in reality, I just give my my observations, and

(25:37):
my observations doesn't lead me to a super crazy positive
prognosis as to what you're going to get from the
Deshaun Watson experiences as a Cleveland Browns quarterback. That's just
not where I'm at in my mind space of why
you know what to expect from him? I just don't.

(26:01):
I don't see it.

Speaker 2 (26:15):
P Petros Papa Daegas. He is the co host of
the Petros and Money Show, which you can hear on
the Blowtorch AM five to seventy LA Sports. Also a
Fox College football analyst, Pee What's happening?

Speaker 3 (26:26):
Good morning to you and.

Speaker 4 (26:27):
Good morning, Hello, good morning, hello.

Speaker 2 (26:29):
Hello Petros. I saw this and I thought it was
kind of funny. There were and Eddie just mentioned it
in his update ti Oscar Hernandez hits the go ahead
home run last night for the Dodgers, which I know
you were monitoring with being AM.

Speaker 3 (26:43):
Five to seventy the home.

Speaker 4 (26:44):
Of the Dodgers.

Speaker 2 (26:45):
I was monitoring that, yes, And what I thought was
funny is that people were complaining about the zech swing.
Don't you lose all right to bitch about the result
when you gave up seven runs in the inning, Like
it's the check swing? Really the complain ain't there? Or
when you're up by that guy right field was really hot?
Oh my gosh.

Speaker 7 (27:04):
Yeah, the ball went over and he started waving his
arms around. He looks like me trying to get my
kids to bed at night, right, he.

Speaker 3 (27:11):
Just uh, it just it's one of those things to wear.
No mookie bets.

Speaker 2 (27:16):
You know, they got they got injuries elsewhere and then
ti Oscar, I guess is that's.

Speaker 7 (27:20):
The only reason it was interesting, right, I mean, the Rockies,
the Dodgers have a pretty.

Speaker 4 (27:26):
Good lead in the NL West.

Speaker 7 (27:28):
They have a lot of under five hundred teams on
the schedule in the next few weeks, and they have
a lot of injuries. I mean a lot of injuries
to pitchers. Although Clayton Kershaw I believe, remember him is
going to start tonight in Rancho Cucamonga, one of the
uh all the affiliates in the minor leagues that's local,

(27:49):
and that kind of just popped up. I think he's
pitching tonight, so a lot of people will show up.

Speaker 4 (27:55):
To watch that.

Speaker 7 (27:56):
But either way, uh, yeah, they've had a lot of injuries,
so it's interesting to see that they're going to respond,
and you know who they're going to put in the
lineup and how Dave Roberts is gonna mess with the
lineup and show Tani is going to be the leadoff guy.
So that's the only reason I was watching. And then
to see the right fielder flip his arms around was

(28:19):
kind of interesting. But other than that, no, that's not
really step a meltdown. I mean, it's just not on
the forefront. I mean, there's not much going on, Let's
be honest, you know, no, not not when all we
can talk about every day is like the w NBA
race war.

Speaker 3 (28:37):
I just was about to ask you.

Speaker 4 (28:40):
If that's our topic.

Speaker 7 (28:41):
Man, nothing's happening right if all we have is the
w NBA race war. And what Robert Griffin the Third
said about it, we don't have much of a landscape.

Speaker 3 (28:51):
See, I didn't even hear what he had to say.
Can I guess what he had to say about it?

Speaker 4 (28:56):
I think he called it a race war.

Speaker 3 (28:57):
All right, it's so good to be my guess.

Speaker 4 (29:00):
It's like, we don't know how to cover this sport
we have. We just can't do it. We can't treat
it like a sport.

Speaker 2 (29:06):
Do you think there's an element of people that feel
like they have to care about the sport, that don't
really care about the sport that are talking about it,
Because Lamar and I got some pushback when we said
earlier this week, I don't watch, like I just you know,
I'm sorry, it's not it's you know, there's other sports
that I'm also not that into. But it feels like

(29:27):
if you don't watch, then you're being disrespectful or you're
not being you know, not being fair too. It's like, no,
like like I know what's going on, but I'm not
actively pursuing WNBA games to feed my sports fix that
I've got to get in each night.

Speaker 4 (29:43):
Well you are.

Speaker 7 (29:44):
You are describing the first few decades of the WNBA.

Speaker 4 (29:48):
Yes, and most people's reaction to it.

Speaker 7 (29:51):
Look I I've enjoyed watching all the women's basketball, and
I like watching Caitlin Clark because she's a great She
involves every If she was just raining threes from the logo,
I think people would still be interested in her. But
the reason she can continue to do that is because
she passes so well. Right, I mean, I'm no basketball analyst,

(30:14):
but she's a hell of an assist person, so that
makes it interesting. And I watch her games and I
actually check to see when they're playing, and I might
put it on.

Speaker 4 (30:25):
And I think that's a lot of other people.

Speaker 7 (30:28):
But the fact that that's the case and that the
numbers are rising, they have a very difficult time dealing
with it.

Speaker 4 (30:34):
So if that's our number one story, we got that.

Speaker 7 (30:37):
We got what Willie Mays died, which is terrible. Reddick
watch he was quite old. Yeah, we have JJ Reddick watch.
And we have the Celtics. Yeah, and there's the Celtics Championship, which,
because the Lakers are a twenty four hour news kind

(31:00):
of dump for everybody that does this job nationally and locally,
everybody wanted to look at the Celtics Championship, even on
national television. Through the prism of Oh my god, Look
how bad this sucks for the Lakers. And if you
think about it, it kind of does. I mean, you look
at the Celtics. They have this great GM that is

(31:22):
supposed to be the best basketball mind going right now,
and that guy named Brad.

Speaker 4 (31:30):
Two.

Speaker 7 (31:30):
You got two star players that the Lakers could have
picked in back to back drafts that you can't even
choose which one's the MVP because they're both.

Speaker 4 (31:38):
So equally valuable.

Speaker 7 (31:40):
You have a bunch of great role players who know
exactly what they're supposed to do at any given moment,
and it looks like they're going to be that way
for years and years to come. And then you have
this underlying rivalry that's pretty great actually, between like Cornbread
Maxwell and James Worthy and Magic Johnson and all these

(32:00):
angry old Lakers and Celtics that used to go at it,
you know, back in the days of Tommy Hinz and
old Tommy Flintstone.

Speaker 4 (32:08):
And that's kind of interesting.

Speaker 7 (32:10):
But if you're an LA Laker type, you look at
the situation, and I mean, the Boston Celtics coach is
almost like Jesus, that's how pure he is. And the
Lakers are going to hire Jj Reddick. We're on Reddick Watch.
So you juxtaposed those two things in what's supposed to
be one of the great rivalries in sports. I guess

(32:32):
that's a story. I mean, it's better than the WNBA
race war.

Speaker 3 (32:37):
I guess you know what I was thinking.

Speaker 4 (32:39):
And the right fielder for the Rockies is right, what
do you guys want from?

Speaker 2 (32:42):
And his melt out of course field I was also
thinking this. So the Clippers announced Jeff Van Gundy is
going to be the lead assistant for tylu and his
coaching staff. And Jeff Van Gundy spent the year as
like a consultant I forget what the specific title was
with the Celtics, but he ends up finally winning a
ring with Boss and then he goes and he becomes
the lead analyst for the Clippers, and I look at

(33:05):
it and I go so, basically, the Clippers have the
two best basketball coaches in town and they're both with
the Clippers and not the Lakers. And the Lakers are
out trying to hire JJ Reddick because he was buddies
with Lebron on a podcast. It just feels like this
is another one of those make a splash higher because

(33:26):
it's a big name, and because it'll get talked about
it and then complain about it later.

Speaker 7 (33:30):
That's a good point that I've heard made before that
who's going to talk about the Lakers if they hire
a guy named Brego that most of us couldn't pick
out of a lineup right right, No.

Speaker 4 (33:43):
One's going to talk about him.

Speaker 7 (33:44):
Steven A and McNutt aren't going to go back and forth,
Oh no about it, or the or the cue ball
headed girl. Have you seen the cueball headed lady? Oh no,
that does the analysis? Yeah, the bald head scaleyway.

Speaker 3 (33:58):
Oh no, not on June teen. Too much stuff going
on into the NBA right now.

Speaker 7 (34:08):
We used to have a fish fry every Juneteenth. Most
of us didn't know what Juneteenth was back then until
we had the until we had the Texas football players
at USC. I mean, our black guys didn't know juneteen.
I mean, I'm serious. I mean we're talking about twenty
years ago.

Speaker 4 (34:29):
But it's a whole thing.

Speaker 7 (34:30):
But yes, uh, I don't I don't really know. I
don't really know what the next big sports story is
going to be. We have death Bill Walton, and yeah,
we have Bill Walton and Jerry West that's the really
sad part. I mean, the Lakers are going to hire
JJ Reddick, who disparaged Jerry West and his generation of

(34:54):
players really upset him and he felt really disrespected. The
Lakers ruined their relationship with Jerry West because Jenie Buss
picked Phil Jackson over him and whatever.

Speaker 4 (35:06):
That history is.

Speaker 7 (35:07):
Well that's been going on and yeah, that's been going
on for quite some time. And it's just all these
things kind of like put up against each other. You
just say, Wow, the Lakers are kind of in a
bad way, but like they were in like those Lonzo
Ball years, they weren't good, but everybody talks about them
all year long, in the off season and during the

(35:29):
season and the whole deal. So I guess we're just
running the wheel like everybody else.

Speaker 3 (35:34):
Yeah, I have to you just have to do it.
I'm going to take my one question, you know, because
Q isn't here to then they generally geek out over
talking to you. So I just listened to this segment
instead of participating. So I'm gonna ask you a question today, Petrick.

Speaker 7 (35:50):
I'm available. I'm even available when Brady's here.

Speaker 3 (35:54):
Yeah, but it's it's not I don't I don't like
to take their time. They're really into you, and you know,
I don't like getting.

Speaker 4 (36:04):
What I'm gone.

Speaker 3 (36:08):
Yeah, that's I like that. So, uh well, everything that
that just took place with the the you know, the
mini camps and all that stuff, you know, and the
Aaron Rodgers. Are you following the.

Speaker 4 (36:21):
Aaron Rodgers didn't shop.

Speaker 3 (36:23):
Didn't show up to mini camp. But now you have
the whole There was a report Hassan Reddick has now
you know, lied about his contract, him being okay with
his contract, but now apparently he may not be. But
the report came from a how how I will make
sure we corrected and say it the right way?

Speaker 4 (36:45):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (36:45):
Rich Semini on his podcast who Covers the Jetsky reported
that Hassan Reddick basically lied to the Jets and told
him he was okay with his contract for this year,
he'll show up to mini camp and then didn't show up.

Speaker 3 (36:59):
Which man means that that information came internally from internal right.
Would you agree with that.

Speaker 7 (37:06):
That somebody said Hassan Reddick lied linebacker for the New
York Jets.

Speaker 3 (37:12):
I mean almost he's not signed yet, but that it's apparently.

Speaker 4 (37:16):
Former Arizona cardinal Yeah, right.

Speaker 7 (37:19):
And Philadelphia Eagle yeahh okay, Hassan Reddick.

Speaker 4 (37:25):
Is unhappy at.

Speaker 7 (37:26):
Camp that CAP did not show up to many camp, right,
because he's unhappy about his contract.

Speaker 2 (37:32):
Basically, the organization fed Rich Semini that Hassan Redick lied
to them and they were expecting him there and he
did not show up. And I can't imagine that would
sit well with Hassan Redick.

Speaker 3 (37:44):
One.

Speaker 7 (37:44):
Yeah, that's interesting because, uh, the Jets seemed to be
pretty leaky.

Speaker 3 (37:48):
Right, yes, And that's why I was kind of getting that,
Like is that I mean, don't you think that that's
a bad cultural deal where you do things like this,
where you leak out that type of like you'd not
be internal conversations between the representation of the player and
the organization rather than trying to make it a public

(38:08):
conversation like they just did. Even the way they handle
things with Aaron Rodgers not being there, Like, I mean,
was it necessary I don't know the rules, but was
it necessary for the head coach to say it was
not an excusable absence but I'm okay with him, Like
I'm good with him not being here, but it was
not excused, Like.

Speaker 7 (38:29):
It feels kind of like the Jets don't really run
themselves very well, which is really difficult, right when you're
talking about a franchise that people talk about a lot.
They got Aaron Rodgers there, so that's gonna be a
big thing. We all had that weird moment where he
ran out with the American flag and then blew his
achilles tang five minutes later, and it was a really

(38:52):
I mean, it made for a really awkward season. And
then he would sit there and talk about how the
Jets are distracted and they are not about ball and
he's not playing, and he's going on national television and
radio once a week and talking about politics. Basically, it
really is a convoluted situation, and I think it's probably

(39:14):
pretty hard to pull all those threads, but it is interesting,
Like I feel like people are just starting to wake up,
Like the sports viewing public that doesn't just turn on,
you know, whatever is on the twenty four hour thing
and watch people argue every day, but the actual like
media viewing sports public that really kind of tries to

(39:38):
dig deep into this stuff, is starting to realize how
stories are leaked, who's leaking stories, who benefits when a
story comes out, and they're looking at things in that
regard and people are getting called out a little bit more.
I mean, I remember a few years ago that the
Athletic or somebody wrote an article about Adrian Wargin and saying, hey,

(40:01):
you ever notice how this guy never criticizes Joe Dumars
And every couple months he writes like a glowing thing
about Joe dumar like it was.

Speaker 4 (40:08):
A whole thing.

Speaker 7 (40:09):
And it's like, yeah, you can trace media people and
you can really kind of see who they're pulling the
oars for, especially when they're information people. And it's bigger
than just the Jets in this one Italian gentleman, right,
it's it's schefter for the NFL. I mean, if they

(40:31):
want to leak something out, he carries their water and
if they want it framed in a certain way. Here's
an example. Have you guys seen the City Connect Dodger uniforms?

Speaker 3 (40:42):
No?

Speaker 2 (40:43):
Yeah? Yeah, the altar? Like every team does this city Connect?

Speaker 3 (40:46):
I see the different the different alternate uniforms.

Speaker 4 (40:49):
Not every team. The Yankees do not participate in.

Speaker 3 (40:52):
The probo Oh that's right, because they've got the traditional Well.

Speaker 4 (40:55):
I mean so to the Dodgers. I mean it's not.

Speaker 7 (40:57):
It's kind of hard to improve on the original and
some of the City connect Some people hate all of them,
but I don't.

Speaker 4 (41:03):
Some of them are pretty cool.

Speaker 7 (41:04):
The Rockies one is cool, the Reds one is cool,
the Rangers one is cool. The Chicago White Sox one
is cool. I mean, some of these are cool. The
Dodger one is lost. Dodgers, well, that was last year.
And you know, I used to say Doyers. No one
ever used to say that. When I first got on radio,

(41:25):
I would say d O Y E R s and
everybody liked it and got excited about it.

Speaker 4 (41:31):
And then one day when we were working.

Speaker 7 (41:32):
At the Dodger station, they told me I couldn't say
it anymore because the Dodgers now own it.

Speaker 4 (41:38):
They trademarked it.

Speaker 3 (41:39):
Did they really?

Speaker 7 (41:40):
They own Doyers and they'll put it on a hat
or something like that.

Speaker 4 (41:45):
You can find them. They're not easy to find, but
they will.

Speaker 3 (41:48):
Did you create it, like, did you?

Speaker 7 (41:50):
Well?

Speaker 4 (41:50):
I mean I didn't create it.

Speaker 7 (41:51):
It was created by people that say Doyers for the
last you know, however long. But I was the first
one to kind of acknowledge it as that, and I
would get, you know, people to come on and say
Doyer's like Manny Mota and then clip it.

Speaker 3 (42:08):
Why did you not buy it?

Speaker 7 (42:10):
I don't know, I too stupid. You know, why did
not buy Sweet James? Why did you buy Taco Tuesday?
Like Lebron? Well there's here you go, because I didn't
make that one up and neither did Lebron. But it's
h It's a terrible uniform. The City Connect is really ugly.
It's got all you need to know about it is

(42:31):
it has fun fetti on it, you know, I mean
rainbow paints flecked all over. Oh okay, So it's not
a great jersey and nobody likes it. But the Dodgers
got somebody from the La Times to write a glowing
article about it, Bill Shaken, Right. They called in a

(42:51):
favor and when they have something, they'll throw a bone
to Bill Shaken And that's how this works. But it's
really sophisticated at the highest levels, like with John Hayman
and Rosenthal and guys like that and major League Baseball.
And the coolest part about it is the whole role
of the insider started with who And it wasn't Adrian,

(43:16):
it was it was Jay Glazer and he's the.

Speaker 4 (43:20):
Og in that way.

Speaker 7 (43:22):
Well, you have Peter Vessi and people like that, but
Glazer's the first guy that had all the information was
not league sanctioned, and he still has all the information,
just nobody pays him during the year to deliver it,
so he doesn't. Fox doesn't really have what we would

(43:44):
call a news department in sports anymore, right, They have
some talking head shows and stuff, but they don't have
a news department. So nobody pays Glazer to break news
during the offseason like they used to, so he just
doesn't do it. And it's I think it's awesome. I mean,
he works during the season, he gives the information to

(44:05):
the Sunday show, and that's that. But he really is
the best guy and did it the best and did
it the most honestly through real relationships and not sucking
up to the corporate level of the league.

Speaker 4 (44:18):
And that's how.

Speaker 7 (44:19):
These things get leaked out and how information travels and
who gets what, who gets to break what story.

Speaker 4 (44:26):
At the highest levels. At the local level, it's.

Speaker 7 (44:30):
Hey, I love these uniforms, or hey, this guy, Hassan
Reddick is not really happy with his contract, And that's
what they told me. You know, like But it is
funny because people can fire back on social media and
they're not above getting after some media member trying to
act hard. So it makes a little bit more confusing.

(44:51):
But I guess a little more interesting this time of year.

Speaker 4 (44:53):
Yeah, no doubt.

Speaker 3 (44:54):
I'm looking at that uniform. It is an interesting looking uniform.

Speaker 4 (44:58):
That's terrible.

Speaker 2 (44:58):
Great, we appreciate it. We're up against Thanks Bud, do
it again next week. All right, have a greatness at
the old pep talk to where you can
