a couple of days away from the NFL.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
Officially being back.
Speaker 4 (01:11):
We've got the Ravens, We've got the Chiefs on Thursday
night football, and what a great way to start it
off if you think of this from the Ravens standpoint,
they made the worst mistake possible last season. They went
away from their identity in an AFC Championship Game playoff
loss to the Chiefs.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
They they didn't run the football.
Speaker 4 (01:35):
That's their strength is running the rock, and they just
got away from it against.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
The Chiefs at home.
Speaker 4 (01:43):
And so you think about this heading into Thursday Night's game.
It's been an entire offseason where Todd Monkin, the offensive coordinator,
is kicking himself, like, how could I not dance with
who brung me? You're right, they always say that dance
with who brung you? Did not do that against the Chiefs.
It's been a whole off season and he's had to
(02:05):
think about that. Jeff, there is no way Todd Monkin
gets away from the running game in any copparable way
to the AFC title game. That's why I can't wait
to see Derek Henry new Ravens running back. How many
carries does he get? How many rushing yards does he get?
But there's no way. At the end of the game,
you're like, yeah, running backs had six total rushes. There
(02:27):
is zero chance that happens on Thursday Night.
Speaker 5 (02:32):
Yes, I will agree with the premise.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
Brian but it sounds like tentitive agreement, right there, Jae.
Speaker 5 (02:39):
Well, let me explain myself. This is you know, we
have we have fifteen minutes to explain right myself right now,
I mean technically got two hours. But here's here's why
I think that that may not happen. And I will
caution everyone. I think people are gonna just gonna auto
bet Derrick Henry overs for this game. I'll give you
two pieces of caution here. One is the thing that's
(03:01):
hard about playing the Chiefs, and their offense is good.
I think we agree their offense will be much better
this season with Xavier are Worthy. I know Hollywood Brown's
is not playing this game, but Juju's back, and you
know year two race sheet Rice and Travis Kelsey obviously,
and they added Carson Steel now right and and p
Ryan to their roster. The offense will be much better.
It really can't be worse, right and again, and the
number one really the number the top two people that
(03:23):
could not catch the football for them last year, Darius
Tony and MVS are not on the team anymore, right, Brian,
So you agree the offense will be better? Right?
Speaker 3 (03:31):
Yes?
Speaker 5 (03:32):
Yeah, okay, I always hear this when it comes to
playing the Chiefs. You're ready this from fans and commentators.
If you run the football, then the Chiefs get less possessions. Well,
that's that's not true. That there's there's no factual basis
in that and in theory. Yeah, but it never ends
up happening. But the thing is, Brian, if you run
(03:55):
the football and you and you take up time right
off the clock and you don't finish those drives in
seven points, you have wasted the opportunity and now you
have yourself less time to make a comeback when the
Chiefs in heavily score touchdown after you score three. So
we've heard this for years Tancy Titans when dere Henry
was there by the way, right, just go to just
(04:16):
run the football in Kansas City, it's all you got
to do. Well, yeah, if you ended seven points, if
you ended three or no points, all you've done is
waste time. And when the Chiefs score quickly, you have
less time to score yourself. So it doesn't actually work
that way, right, And the other thing that is really
hard when you play Kansas City is this is what
happened last season. The Chiefs scored fourteen points in their
(04:38):
first two drives. It it's a really good Baltimore right
of the defense. As an offensive coordinator, you think to yourself, Oh, shoot,
we got to keep up. We can't run the football anymore.
We have to keep up. And I made the argument
for years now that fourteen to nothing in the second
quarter is nothing. You run your offense and the panic
(04:59):
starts the fourth quarter. Right, that's you know, that's but
but they're human. Oh he's a human, right. Coaches are human.
You know. I could see Harriby, Hey, hey, Todd Munkin.
We got to pass the ball. We got to keep
up with the Chiefs for the football. So those are
two schematic, schematic reasons why. The other reason why I
think the Ravens are in a tough spot in this game, Brian.
(05:20):
They have three offensive lineman making their first NFL starts.
They have Ronnie Stanley left tackle, who is a veteran
but been beat up over the years. He's starting four.
He's is starting at left guard, who was a was
a seventh rownd pick last season because he hurt his
knee at the combine two years ago. He would probably
be a third or fourth round pick out of USC
(05:42):
if he was able to stay healthy the combine. He
was that sort of player. But again, seventh round pick
making his first NFL start, the center Tyler Linderbaum. Lindenbaum
really good, he's he's not, He's a good player. Then
you have it at right guard h Daniel who is
six yeah, anything like that. And then you have a
(06:09):
right tackle Roger Rosenguard from Washington, second round pick by
the Ravens this past season. So you have three guys
making their first start on the road to Arrowhead on
Banner Night. Not ideal, I would say. And then unfortunately
their offensive line coach passed away a couple of weeks ago,
so they're doing with a new offensive line coach and
George Warhawp who they brought in is a vetter offense local.
(06:31):
He's good off It's a line coach. But again, it's
it's really tough, I think, to just basically have a
new coach and started two weeks before the season. It's
it's again, it's it's a bummer. But these are all
reasons why I think the Ravens might struggle. And I
would caution people on just auto hitting Derrick Henry rushing
(06:53):
yards in this game.
Speaker 4 (06:55):
Well, I hear you, because listen, game script can certainly
factor in too, if you're looking at a prop bet.
Let's just take Derek Henry for instance, and whether it's
his carries that's at sixteen and a half right now,
or it's his rushing yards that's at sixty four and
a half.
Speaker 3 (07:15):
Yeah, I clearly, I definitely hear you.
Speaker 4 (07:17):
But I ask myself, what would the score need to
be for the Ravens to basically abandon the running game
like they did in the AFC title game.
Speaker 3 (07:27):
When that cost them. That was a huge factor in them.
Speaker 4 (07:31):
They didn't lean into their strength and they were having
some success. Gus Edwards, he ripped off a long sixteen
yard run. He had three carries. Like, you can't look
at the end of that game and say, ah, we
did a good job. Gus Edwards three carries for twenty yards.
That dude had to have at least double digit carries
in that game. That's the strength of their team. And
(07:53):
so what would the score need to be for the Ravens,
who should have learned a lesson from that loss in
the AFS title game. It have to be like twenty
one to three. And we're starting to get later into
the second half for them to be like, you know,
we don't have enough time to just I don't see
that being being the case. So I look for them
(08:13):
to lean into the running game. Sure it's gonna be balanced,
it's not gonna be like the wing tea and they
turn into old school army footballer, you know what I mean,
Like they're gonna throw it with Lamar. But there is
no way at the end of this game you look
up and it's like, wow, our running backs combined for
six carries. There's zero chance that happens. I think you're
gonna see the direct opposite of that happening.
Speaker 5 (08:36):
I again, I I generally agree with what you're saying. Again,
I just caution. I just caution everyone that that people have.
They have these ideas about about Kansas City and how
they're gonna play Kansas City, and they get in the
game and they don't do any of it. So I
just again, I just want to I just want to
caution you on that, because again, the Chiefs come out
(08:59):
and score a quick two times in a row, and
all of a sudden, it's like oopsie, were actually no,
we're not doing that. So yeah, that's the only caution
about you know. And and by the way, on the
on the flip side, never bet at Kansas City running
back prop ever, So I don't do that. They they
just they they don't they run, they ride, They ride
(09:23):
the hothand.
Speaker 4 (09:25):
Yeah, it reminds me of the Patriots for a while
over there. Remember who was the running back guy out
of Notre Dame that had like two hundred yards in.
Speaker 5 (09:36):
A in a game and then Gray something?
Speaker 4 (09:38):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, our guy Gray over there.
Speaker 5 (09:43):
Or just like I didn't know where, like a Monday
night game.
Speaker 4 (09:45):
Yeah, he went crazy against the Colts, I believe, rushed
for over two hundred yards and then he was in
the doghouse whatever. He was late to practice and that's
the last you heard of him.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
It's like he's just gone. You know, Jonas Gray, I think,
is Jonas there?
Speaker 5 (09:58):
It is? Yeah, but thanks are very much, especially at
running back. There a ride the hot hand type of team.
So yeah, I would I just always cost everyone on that.
I think though Mahomes, I think I think it's gonna
have a great season. I think Mahomes is primed for
a five thousand yards season.
Speaker 4 (10:15):
Again, Yeah, I wouldn't be shocked if he got there
at all, how about this the Friday night game. We've
got the Packers and the Eagles over there in Brazil,
And I was just thinking about this with the QB matchup, Jeff,
if you had to pick today, which quarterback are you
going with? Who do you think is better? Right here,
right now? Do you think Jordan Love has already surpassed
(10:36):
Jalen Hurts?
Speaker 3 (10:37):
Because I do.
Speaker 4 (10:38):
I don't think there's any doubt that Jordan Love is
a better quarterback than than Justin Hurts.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
That Hurts over the course, Jalen Hurts, I.
Speaker 5 (10:47):
Think, Jordan, you think Jordan Love is better already?
Speaker 4 (10:50):
I do, because, like, here's the deal. Jalen Hurts a
couple of years ago, very good, and I get it.
He's the run pass, dual threat type guy. But passing
the ball, he's just not at the level of Jordan Love.
And I get that some people, and I'm one of
these where it's like, I want to see more than
just one second half as a starter. He's arguably the
(11:11):
best quarterback second half of last season. I want to
see more than just one season because you saw this
a little bit with Jalen Hurts, right, Jalen Hurst Hurts
burst onto the scene and it took a little bit
of time and Okay, defensive coordinators, okay this, he doesn't
like this, all right, we could throw this look at him.
I think there's gonna be some of that with Jordan Love,
but just in terms of reading defenses, making the right decision,
(11:36):
throwing with precision, I think Jordan Love checks all those
boxes more than Jalen Hurts does. And in today's NFL,
I would go with that, and Jalen Hurts I love
the dual threat ability, but some of that comes back
to bite you when he gets injured as well. I
would go with Jordan Love today over Jalen Hurts.
Speaker 3 (11:54):
Would you.
Speaker 5 (11:57):
Interesting? Uh? I? Uh? They playing different offenses too. I
think they Love can make some dynamic passes maybe that
we don't see we don't see Hurts make. But I
will say I want to see Hurts in sort of
(12:20):
this new offense without Jason Kelsey before I decide where
I stand, because Kelsey did a lot for that offense,
and I just don't I'm unsure about what this looks like,
you know, without without Kelsey. I don't know if I'm
quite ready to say that that. I don't think I'm
(12:41):
quite ready to say that that that Love is better
than her.
Speaker 4 (12:44):
I am, I'm ready. I'll give you one more little
evidence here. How about this if we switched supporting casts. Okay,
Jalen Hurts is the guy throwing to a banged up
Christian Watson, Jayden Reid, who is really good rookie Romeo Dobbs,
bow Melton, like it's a bunch of two's over there
(13:04):
in Green Bay. And still Jordan Love through thirty two
touchdown passes as a first year starter.
Speaker 3 (13:10):
That's really impressive.
Speaker 4 (13:11):
Like, give Jordan Love AJ Brown and Davonte Smith and
give him Goddard as a tight end. Give them arguably
the best offensive line in football. That's what they were
last year. We'll see with Kelsey being gone this year.
But like that, you're cooking with Grace over there, and
he absolutely fizzled last season. Jalen Hurtz did. I just
(13:32):
don't see Jordan Love doing that with that type of
supporting cast. He's making it work with what the Packers have,
and it's it's good, but it's not any anywhere close
to what the Eagles have supporting cast wise.
Speaker 5 (13:43):
No, I think Look, I think that's generally fair. What
you're saying, I just don't I think that we have
to see Hurts in a new offense. I think you
would not have said this to start last season. You
wouldn't have said this even up to week eleven. I
think you think last year was such a kind of
a toxic year for this team that I think I
(14:06):
want to see them, you know, in a in a
you know, sort of in a new a new new offinator,
new defense coordinator. Sirianni. I like that he's sort of
taken the blame for a lot of this. I just again,
I want to see all of this, you know, all
(14:26):
all on the field before I decided that.
Speaker 3 (14:28):
That's fair, that's fair.
Speaker 4 (14:29):
I think you go back to Jalen Hurts. So two
years ago, twenty two touchdown passes, six picks and passer
ratings over one hundred.
Speaker 3 (14:39):
They go to the Super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (14:41):
He plays a great game, aside from one costly fumble
that went for a touchdown. But and after that game,
it just seemed like, oh, Jalen Hurts, he's the real deal.
Give him max contract. This guy's definitely certified. And it's
like that was one really good year. But at the
end of the day, it's still just one one good year.
(15:01):
Let's see you run it back and run it back
and run it back. And last year was a big
step back with fifteen interceptions.
Speaker 5 (15:07):
That's certainly fair. And again that's why I want to
see Jordan do it. Yeah, run it. I wanted to
see both these guys. You know, year two for Jordan
Love but then just Jalen Hurts, new offense, new attitude,
knew no Jason Kelcey. Just a lot of a lot
of questions I have about that about sort of both
these guys heading into the season.
Speaker 4 (15:29):
Yeah, absolutely, I'm excited to see both of these quarterbacks.
But man, that's I think that Jalen Hurts in that
Eagles offense and the way that team just knows dived right,
they lost six of seven. If you told me after
they went ten to one, and you said, oh it right, Like,
let me just tell you what do you do?
Speaker 5 (15:49):
You like it? Sirianni. Basically there was a report that
he basically took the blame for I liked that he
you know how honest he was at least a team
about how that season went, and instead of blaming anyone else,
he blames now you have to now you know, basically
rally and and and prove that that wasn't you know
who you are as a coach. But a lot of coaches,
(16:10):
many they just do not take the blame. They blame
the players. And so, uh, I like that we at
least with the reports, Brian, or that a coach took
credit or you know, took the blame for loss, because
a lot of times, a lot of times man coaches
point fingers and annoys the heck out of players because
(16:31):
coaches do not just do not do not take the blame.
And we look at the coach and we're like, hey, man,
like we we watch the same film you do. It's
it's okay to admit that you know that that you
got this one wrong, or you didn't or you didn't
coach well, or this is your fault. And it goes
a long way in building team relationships. Now, of course, again, Brian,
(16:52):
they have to now do it right and and play better.
But I like Sirianni taking that on himself, say hey man,
it's it's my fault. I gotta fix myself.
Speaker 3 (17:02):
Yeah, we're in the Uh.
Speaker 4 (17:04):
I don't know if I can find it fast enough,
but we're in the It starts with me uh, day
and age where Uh you know you gotta you just
take blame that way. There have been a number of
coaches that say that, like, uh, Sean McVay is very
famous for this. You get a lot of press. Yeah
it starts with me, right, Like, it's just that's the
(17:27):
way to do it. It's the new way. Yeah, you
gotta you gotta do that. And uh, I even made
a mix. I don't know if I have a whole
mix over here somewhere, but you know, I.
Speaker 5 (17:40):
Need to get I need to get on the soundboard. Man,
I gotta add some. I gotta add some. It would
be it wouldn't be good. I just have to like
random random drops. Ready to go.
Speaker 4 (17:49):
I'll try to find that it starts with me mix
because this happens so often in sports that I made
a mix like a mixtape if you will, of this.
But it's gonna take a little sifting to get to that. Oh,
here we go. Well, it's it's timely. Here I think
I can get to this.
Speaker 3 (18:05):
Here we go.
Speaker 4 (18:06):
Yeah, you'll notice some some familiar voices in this one.
Speaker 3 (18:10):
Check this out. It starts with me, It starts with me,
starts with me, starts with me.
Speaker 4 (18:23):
Yeah, right, like there's Sean mcvayh in there. There was
some Tom Brady, big Ben Roethlisberger. That's been a thing
for a while. Coach, you gotta go with it. Starts
with me.
Speaker 5 (18:33):
Huh, starts to start with me. Everyone starts with me.
Speaker 3 (18:35):
Yeah, that's right.
Speaker 4 (18:36):
You gotta throw that out there, all right, Hey, make
pro quality pizza at home with Oonie today. Nie has

Ni dot com. All right, he's Jeff Schwartz. I'm Brian.
Speaker 1 (19:06):
No.
Speaker 4 (19:06):
We're in for two Pros and a Cup of Joe
coming up next. Are you buying or selling stock with
these college football teams? After what we've seen thus far?
That is on the way. We are alive from the
tyreck dot Com studios here on Fox Sports Radio.

wherever you get your podcasts.
Speaker 3 (19:58):
He's Jeff Schwartz.
Speaker 4 (19:59):
I'm Brian no In for two pros and a cup
of Joe here on Fox Sports Radio. Rapid Radios are

Tool goodness, Jeff. Actually a good song, good pull by
(20:41):
Loraina there, But what a sucky band. How does anybody
like Tool? You with me on that Schwartz? I'm sure, okay,
Glad Clever, We're on the same side on that one.
That's one thing I remember about Eddie Garcia. He'll be
here for an update soon. He hates Tool also. That's
one thing one redeeming quality about Eddie Garcia. Hates some duel,
(21:03):
hates them very good. Okay, So we're gonna do a
little by sell college football stock here, Jeff. Now here's
the thing. Remember not Kyle Shanahan, the current forty nine
ers head coach, but remember old school Mike Shanahan, his dad, Yeah,
when he was with the Broncos. Especially one cut and
(21:23):
get downhill. We want you dancing in the hole one
cut downhill. Right, So we're thinking about college football teams
like this. I know we could talk for seventy minutes
straight about every one of these teams, but one cut downhill.
A quick thought, are you buying or selling stock based
on what we've seen thus far. Now, real quick, the
(21:45):
ground rules. How do we quantify this? Because I think
that's important. Are we talking, Hey, these teams have a
legitimate threat to be one of the final four teams standing?
Speaker 3 (21:57):
Right?
Speaker 4 (21:57):
I think that's a good barometer. Are you buying stock
that they could be a final four team? What do
you think about that? Is that fair?
Speaker 7 (22:03):
Well?
Speaker 5 (22:04):
I think honestly, I think I think each one of
these is different. Like I I hate to be that guy,
but I mean, USC's how we as ss USC's different
than how we assess Organs game based off the expectations
for both those teams this season.
Speaker 4 (22:18):
Okay, all right, so you're gonna do it your way,
that's fine, I'm gonna do.
Speaker 5 (22:22):
You Or do you want to just start with the
top and be like, is this this is this a
quarterfinal team or se my final team?
Speaker 3 (22:27):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (22:27):
Like that That's how I look at it, where it's like,
what are we doing here? Are we talking about, Hey,
they're gonna outperform their own expectations or are they gonna
be one of the big boys left standing? I think
that's a more simplistic way see where you want? Man, Okay, uh,
let's go with Miami. Miami just dusted Florida. Are you
(22:47):
buying or selling stock with the Canes?
Speaker 5 (22:50):
Well, okay, so I had them winning the ACC and
and go in the playoffs, so like they're right where
I thought they'd be. I think, actually, I'm probably buying
more stock because I thought Ward who has has had
that talent and Washington and no one sort of harnessed it.
Someone harnessed it now, and so I I'm high on
(23:12):
on cam Warden. I think I buy more stock in Miami.
Speaker 4 (23:15):
Oh, I'm selling all day long on Miami. Now here's
the whole reason. Yes, like they were fantastic against Florida,
but at the end of the day, it's freaking Florida. Okay,
let's let's make them out to be like Georgia.
Speaker 5 (23:26):
Or well, I thought Miami is gonna be good this
year anyway, So I feel like that's some validation for.
Speaker 4 (23:30):
Me, right right, No doubt, no doubt. There's nothing wrong
with being impressed by that win. I'm not saying that
cam Ward was fantastic. I like the one two punch
with cam Ward and Damian Martinez. I mean, you know
Martinez very well, and I like that running back pick
up over there, But listen, man, like this is the
same old song and dance with Miami.
Speaker 3 (23:49):
Like Mario Cristobaul. With that win.
Speaker 4 (23:51):
Against Florida he improves to thirteen and thirteen and now
his third season at Miami.
Speaker 3 (23:57):
I'm just not buying them being like a final team
at all.
Speaker 4 (24:01):
And I could this is a seller's market, right, all
these people. Oh my gosh, I just saw Miami. They
look great, Like no, now's the time to sell.
Speaker 5 (24:12):
I mean, look, if you were just jumping into the
Miami bandwagon, now yeah you would sell. But I've been
on them though, Like this is like this is a
confirmation for me that I think, especially with Florida State
and they played tonight, but with either way that that
comes and look like I feel very good about my
my wager there.
Speaker 4 (24:30):
Okay, all right, let's go with another squad here. Michigan
did not look great against Fresno State. You selling your
Michigan stock.
Speaker 5 (24:37):
So I uh yeah, I mean I had them. I
had them nine and three anyways, so I think I'm
they're probably there, but I don't feel great about it.
Speaker 4 (24:51):
Oh man, I'm selling so fast, so fast, like this
this is not your national championship team for no, no,
you know that's clearly not clearly no, no, no, I know,
but man, you look at their tough games.
Speaker 3 (25:06):
You have Texas next week.
Speaker 4 (25:09):
You know you've got Oregon, You've got at Ohio State
like this screams at the bare minimum of three laws squad.
They're not gonna sniff the playoff. So I'm selling them, Okay,
the big boys. I think you got to be buying
Georgia and Ohio State. I don't think there's any debate
about Georgia, but how about Ohio State. They didn't look
great and they're opener, but they're just way too talented. Jeff,
(25:32):
I'm buying more stock in Ohio State being a final
for a team you.
Speaker 5 (25:35):
I think I am too. They they're gonna be fine.
They started slow, but they finished fast. I mean, look,
I look at Orgon. I mean, should shoot shoot shoot shoot?
They U. I caught myself there. I always forget. That's
the one where you can't say that word. We can
say a bunch of other words. It makes no sense, right,
can you say that? I have no idea, I never know,
never know. I caught myself Swartz.
Speaker 3 (25:56):
Yeah, no problem. The Pat McAfee show over.
Speaker 5 (26:00):
I know right, No, they I I would say that
they're gonna be just fine.
Speaker 4 (26:07):
Yeah, okay, how about how about my Irish?
Speaker 3 (26:11):
They beat Texas A and M are you buying more stock?
Speaker 5 (26:14):
I think Irish might be might going defeated this season
with their schedule.
Speaker 4 (26:17):
Yeah, with their schedule, I would buy it in terms
of them being a playoff team, being a Final four
team though, Jeff, it's.
Speaker 5 (26:26):
Final four probably unlikely. Yeah. I think they're They're gonna
be the five seed and they're gonna host uh the
you know, the the the FCS team and the FCS team,
the Group of five team. I'm gonna be able to play,
you know, they'll have they'll play the Big Toe champion,
which is like a great place.
Speaker 4 (26:43):
To be, right, Yeah, so you're looking if that's the
way it plays itself out. If they're the five seed,
you win one home playoff game, you'd have to win
one more to be a Final four team.
Speaker 3 (26:52):
So that's doable.
Speaker 4 (26:55):
Yeah, okay, one more and we'll pick this back up.
How about about USC they win last night? No, yeah, no,
come on, man, the schedule, but.
Speaker 5 (27:06):
Not not at that level yet. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (27:08):
In l s U sell selling both selling out. Okay,
got a few more teams to look at first, though,
Eddie Garcia is with us to spin us around the
sporting landscape.
Speaker 3 (27:20):
Another fun fact that was a lie.
Speaker 4 (27:22):
He actually does like tool at the list, but uh
he was at a concert at the Oakland Coliseum. Mud fight,
mud fight broke out. Jeff Schwartz, Huh, muddy infield the
whole not great, but memorable, right, I have that right though.
Speaker 3 (27:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (27:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (27:41):
It was Guns N' Roses and Metallica headlining together with
several other bands, but they were the two headliners and
they had covered the baseball field in a in a tarp.
That was back when the A's were actually good and
they were getting ready to host some postseason games, and well,
some of the fans decided that they would like to
tear the turf up and throw it, throw it in
(28:04):
the air, and so they they damaged the field and
that that was. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (28:10):
I don't know. I was not one of those.
Speaker 3 (28:11):
People you're just looking at the Uligans.
Speaker 8 (28:13):
Yeah, it was just monitoring them and I was like, well, no,
I was just like, why are they why are they
doing this?
Speaker 1 (28:19):
What?
Speaker 5 (28:21):
What what's the point of this?
Speaker 8 (28:22):
But uh, by the way, Michigan did not look good
because of course they playing my fresness.
Speaker 5 (28:27):
They bulldogs who you know, fight, come on.
Speaker 3 (28:32):
Defense. Was looking pretty good for a while there.
Speaker 5 (28:34):
I will say I love Fresno's attitude because they never
backed down for anyone. It's a Pat Hill thing, right
started with Pat Hill, like, they will go play anyone anywhere.
They're never intimidated. They can't be organ though, unfortunately, but
otherwise they as a couple of times almost yeah, we
have to win on a fake field goal in Fresnow.
I think I told you the story of playing at
Fresno is why during the Pat Hill era was a
(28:56):
wild time. It was thunderstick era. Everyone was thundersticking in
the crowd with little thunder sticks kids giving us the
middle finger and stuff. It's night game in Fresno, California.
During the Pad Hill era. Buddy, who I was? That
was a that was a fun time.
Speaker 8 (29:11):
It was it was and uh, I'm not sure what
the coaching situation is going to be like for now,
but yeah it is it is, but uh we'll see,
we'll see.
Speaker 5 (29:21):
I was.
Speaker 8 (29:21):
I was encouraged by how how hard they played and
they were definitely in at their late pick six and
that was that.
Speaker 4 (29:26):
Okay, we get back to buying and selling college football
stock here. Okay, Jeff, how about Penn State. They looked
fantastic against West Virginia. You're buying or selling your Penn
State stock as we're looking at them doing significant damage
this season.
Speaker 5 (29:43):
I'm I'm I was already on them as a playoff team.
I continue to believe that. I mean, I don't know
about you, Brian. It looked the look on the playoff
team at West Virginia. You and I are both are
both the wagering types. When I think we talked about
this yesterday, right, James Franklin goes spread when the number
is between seven and twenty four points as a favorite.
(30:04):
He's now seventeen zero to one against the spread, which
is like, it's almost like feels fake to say that,
but that's that's Uh. He's good in these games. He's
good in these games. Man.
Speaker 4 (30:18):
I think there'll be a playoff team. I agree with that.
Will they be a Final four team? I would sell
stock as far as that goes. This is just what
Penn State does. They rile you up. You're thinking, hey,
they look at their defense, Hey look at the running game.
Speaker 3 (30:30):
Look at Drew Allery.
Speaker 4 (30:31):
He had some nice pass man like it sets up nicely,
and then when it's all said and done, you're like,
how did Penn State disappoint us yet again?
Speaker 3 (30:39):
You know, I hope LeVar Arrington is not listening to
any but it's true. It's just true.
Speaker 4 (30:45):
I don't expect them to be a Final four team.
I would sell my stock.
Speaker 5 (30:48):
My thing is that, like, is I think my college
football is? You know, everyone we kind of talk about
coaches game management. From last night, I thought like a
Rally and Brian Kelly both had really bad You know,
that's just sort of college football. Every coach has game
management problems. Every team sort of does the Penn State
thing right where you look good in certain games when
you sort of don't look good in the two minutes
(31:10):
that matter of the entire season. That's just like, that's
that's just college football for you.
Speaker 4 (31:15):
Yeah, it is wacky. How about Texas. I'm buying Texas, man,
They're so talented. They're kind of like the Cowboys of
college football. I feel like we talk about Texas's talent
like we talk about the Dallas Cowboys talent, and then
when it's all said and done, they kind of fizzled
in the postseason. That it might be the same story,
but you know, being like having a chance to be
(31:38):
a final four to absolutely Texas has that chance, I
would buy stock right now.
Speaker 5 (31:43):
They go to Michigan this weekend, and Michigan's going to
catch six and a half points at the moment, they
might get to seven. I think if it's as seven,
I'm taking Michigan plus seven. That's like Texas is good,
but Michigan's not not seven points worse at home again
than like, Michigan's defense is still very good. It's a
great game this weekend.
Speaker 3 (32:01):
Mission buying the final four stock though, Texas. Yes, okay,
how about this last year?
Speaker 4 (32:07):
This is probably the most interesting one Oregon, Oregon struck
your ducks struggle against Idaho. I think now's the time
to buy. This is where you can buy. It's at
a discounted rate. Right now people are selling their Oregon stock.
This is still a team dripping in talent, and look,
fluky things happened. No, they shouldn't have won by just
(32:28):
ten points. I'll be the first to tell you that.
But listen, if this is a stinker in the middle
of the season, you just kind of shrug your shoulders.
But because it's the first game of the season. It's like,
oh my gosh, what's going on over? I just I
don't sell Dylan Gabriel and the talent that they have.
They're absolutely a contender for to be a Final four team.
Speaker 5 (32:48):
Can I read you the box score quickly of this game? Yeah,
pretty shocking case of total yards Organ for eighty seven,
Idaho two seventeens. Okay wow.
Speaker 3 (32:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (32:58):
First downs Oregon thirty one, Idaho ten. Wow. Third down
Oregon was seven of sixteen, so nearly fifty percent. Idaho
was two for twelve.
Speaker 1 (33:11):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (33:11):
Okay.
Speaker 5 (33:11):
And Organ won the turnover battle by the.
Speaker 3 (33:13):
Way, Oh man, there's that.
Speaker 5 (33:15):
Yeah. So you're like, that doesn't sound like a twenty
four to.
Speaker 3 (33:18):
Fourteen not at all. No, It's just it's one.
Speaker 5 (33:20):
Of those games where even the game last night we
watched it, you're just like, I feel like there'shually more points,
you know, like Organ and this is not good obviously,
but you know they're driving. And then the right tackle
who gave up zero sacks last season, kids up a
strip sack, like during the red zone about to score
touchdown that would have been twenty one nothing before the half,
You're like, Okay, cool, like, yeah, it should be thirty
five nothing, but twenty one nothing's fine. You know, they
(33:43):
they have a nice play, but it's you know, they
call alignment for lining up too far in the backfield,
you know, like it was stuff like that where you
can clean it up. They also, you know, they gave
up to two and seventeen yards of seventy percent of
those yards were three screens and a trick play, you know,
like like this, it's not people get so fascinated by
(34:05):
sort of when teams allow points and screens are on
gimmick plays, but like with a gimmick play, like a
trick play, like how could they be fooled? Let's call
it trick play for a reason.
Speaker 7 (34:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (34:17):
Yeah, and and those those are understanding. When I see
a team who's struggling run a trick play, I think
to myself, like, yeah, they're losing this game. It's an
unstainable way to to to play offense when you're Idaho, though,
you have to try. Sure, you know, they stopped or
on a fourth down and then they went ahead and
(34:37):
and uh and uh went with the the old flea
flicker double flee flicker. Yeah, past the tight end. I
I'll tell you what. Oregon gets a Boys of State
this weekend. Uh, gent had eight hundred yards against Georgia Southern.
It's so funny, Bois. Boys State fans are like, watch
out for the running back. I go, yeah, yeah, you
(34:58):
also have forty five points to Georgia Southern. So take
a deep breath, Boise. So how about this Brian look
aheadline for Boise State at Oregon. Okay, it was twenty
four points, all right, it's now eighteen.
Speaker 3 (35:15):
Okay, Yeah, you got some.
Speaker 5 (35:17):
It's a big it's a big movement.
Speaker 4 (35:18):
It's a big it's a big move right there. You
might have to back the ducks here. Now would be
the time to do it. But uh, all right, interesting stuff,
all right, coming up next two rants. One that's serious,
one that's completely silly. We'll throw both of them your way.
He's Jeff Schwartz, I'm Brian Know. We're in for Two
Pros and a Cup of Joe live from the tire
Rack dot Com studios here on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (35:40):
Be sure to catch live editions of Two Pros and
a Cup of Joe with Brady Quinn, LeVar Arrington and
Jonas Knox weekdays at six am Eastern.
Speaker 3 (35:50):
He's Jeff Schwartz. I'm Brian No.
Speaker 4 (35:53):
We're in for two pros and a cup of Joe
right here on Fox Sports Radio Live from the tire
rack dot Com studios.
Speaker 3 (36:00):
Okay, so I got a couple.
Speaker 4 (36:01):
Of rants for you here, Jeff. One serious one that's
totally goofy. You're gonna think I'm an old man yelling
at clouds. But we'll start with the serious one first. Okay, So,
I just thought the timing was so interesting this weekend
where I want to give props to Georgia who definitely
(36:22):
needed their running back Trevor Etn but he was suspended
for a game because he got popped for driving under
the influence this offseason.
Speaker 3 (36:31):
Yep, right, so he was driving around.
Speaker 5 (36:33):
It was one of like twenty Georgia players to get
some sort of yeah.
Speaker 4 (36:40):
I don't know what it is, but he was suspended
for a game, and I give him credit because they
really needed him in that game. They had we thought,
we thought they did, and then it turned out the
second half it's thirty four to three. But think about
that first half, Jeff, where what is it like six
nothing something like that in the first half. This was
not a blowout at all, and your think, man, we
(37:00):
got these backup, backup running backs here, we could really
use etn And they stuck to their guns and said, hey,
he got popped, he suspended for a game. Meanwhile, Oklahoma
State running back Ali Gordon was driving under the influence
this offseason, no suspension whatsoever. Remember the head coach, Mike Gundy,
he completely clumsily tried to explain why he didn't suspend
(37:24):
Ali Gordon, and it turned into hey, I've figured I've
driven drunk thousands of times, Like what are we doing
over it? But but the thing, though, Jeff, is the
tragedy that happened where Johnny and Matthew Goudrou, the brothers
played in the NHL. They both died just a couple
of days ago. They were riding bikes. They were in
(37:45):
town in New Jersey for their sister's wedding. They get
struck and killed by a drunk driver. And that's the thing, man,
is that's what can happen when you drive drunk. So
I applaud Georgia for saying that's a lee still one
game minimum suspension. But Oklahoma State, who's like, yeah, you know, uh,
we think you can play what are you doing?
Speaker 3 (38:08):
What are you doing it?
Speaker 4 (38:09):
And that's just that to me, Jeff, is the bare
minimum you've got to sit for at least one game
if you're driving drunk and get popped for it.
Speaker 5 (38:17):
Well, look, I I have many thoughts about this and
infuriates me with all the resources you have now that
we continue to have people to drive drunk, right, I mean,
there's so many ways to get home safely without you know,
any sort of incident happening. You know, the Olli Gordon thing.
It's upsetting because you know the coach basically to your point,
said like, yeah, I drink and drive to Ooopsie. Like, buddy,
(38:40):
you're the second highest state employee, You're in for charge
of a football team. You're can go and be like yeah,
I just I casually drink and drive. No you should.
He had an open bottle in his carl. That should
that you should. It's not it was It wasn't more
than just having a couple of beers with some buddies
and going home. He was very intoxicated. And and and
and when that happened, by the way, like two days
before that, Kyrie Jackson, a former organ player, dying in
(39:02):
a drunk driving accident. No, he wasn't drinking. The person
that hit him was drinking, and so like, it was
so tone deaf, and you're right, but look the truth
of it is, I know we have a couple of
seconds here. Georgia can afford to sit a player like
that and Oli Gordon. They can't afford to see Ali Gordon.
And that's the difference in those programs, right, And that
comes down and look, unfortunately that's the decision sometimes, right, Yeah,
(39:23):
and Georgia had had guys to play.
Speaker 4 (39:26):
Well, hey, we'll pick this back up plus good and
bad news with point spreads.
