Speaker 3 (01:16):
A Thursday at Thursday th Feeling good? Excited about a
little Thursday night football tonight. I feel like this is
a big, a big game for Jets fans. Not so
much Patriots. I mean, I'm not really sure what the
rest of their season looks like. But for Jets fans,
like a game that I think that I saw that
they are the biggest favorite or this is the biggest
(01:38):
lie that they've had as a favorite since two thousand.
Speaker 4 (01:41):
Did I see that right?
Speaker 2 (01:43):
Really, there's no lie six point favorite that's the biggest
since two thousand.
Speaker 4 (01:48):
Six six and a half points. It is something I saw.
It's the biggest they've been out.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
I could be completely wrong and then this ascertation, but
I believe this is and I'm not sure if it's
a road favorite or there's there's like a nuance to it,
but something like that, which is crazy to think about
if you're a Jets fan.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
I mean, is it been that bad? I mean, I
guess it has, but like they've had they've had a
couple of decent teams, like yeah, yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
I guess, but think about it, even those Jets teams
that went on runs to the AFC Championship games, I
don't know that you looked at them as dominant in
the regular season.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
Yeah, I mean, I'm just trying to think back to
like where else would they be this good? And you're right,
like other than the Sanchez teams who went to the
AFC title game. Yeah, they didn't run rough shot through
anybody one of those playoff wins.
Speaker 3 (02:41):
And that was a defensive led team. Yeah right, that
was That was Rex Ryan, that was you know, those
teams that were largely running the football and playing great defense.
And then he had made some throws at some times,
but it was largely because of the defense why they
had gotten there. So I just I don't know that
they were viewed in the betting markets as a team
that could ever really pull away from someone because they're
(03:03):
gonna be playing in lower scoring types of affairs, more
more of a knockdown drag outside of affair. But I'll
have to look it up again, but I'm pretty sure
this is one of the largest favorites they have been
in quite some time. They have.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
I like him big time tonight. I think this is
an opportunity. We're going to look back at that Week
one loss to the Niners and we're gonna dismiss that
pretty quick. Here. I think over the stretch of the season,
what I saw in the Tennessee game, and it's not
like you listen, not like they were beaten you know,
one of the elite teams in the league. But it
does feel like Rogers is starting to find his groove
(03:38):
a little bit, like it does feel like he's starting
to work his way back. They're starting to implement Bresee Hall,
They're starting to find their identity. The injuries aren't great, obviously.
Jermaine Johnson going down is a big loss for them.
He's one of their pass rushers. It brings up the
conversation of whether or not Hassan Redick will be a
guy who they go back to the table with and say,
all right, we need some help on that side of
(03:58):
the ball. But it does feel like they've at least
are maybe are starting to find a little something and
can put together a little bit of a run here
before they get to London in a couple of weeks.
Speaker 3 (04:09):
It feels like they found something last week in the
second half, right like watching their offense, watching Rogers, he
spoke about it this week too, But you get the
sense that their offense it's getting a little bit more comfortable,
and it stings that it takes real games that matter
that could ultimately impact their season nowadays to actually factor
in to those guys getting their rhythm, their chemistry, because
(04:32):
no one plays a preseason anymore. I mean, that's the
hard part about it. We place like when people talk
about the expansion of the regular season going from sixteen
to seventeen games, now seventeen eventually to eighteen. I guarantee
you there's guys who are looking at it saying, we
can lose more games, and that's okay, And that was
never a thought over the course of a sixteen game season,
(04:54):
when you had four preseason games, you had starters who
they wanted to play a little bit, they wanted to
knock off the rust, they wanted they try to get
into a flow so they were prepared for the regular season.
And there's some guys who when they're that old, they
didn't want to maybe, but for the most part, every
veteran who had played there like that, I need to
get myself ready for the regular season. That school thought
(05:15):
is gone, and now guys looking at it and say
like they're getting into shape into whatever their identity is
gonna be as an offense.
Speaker 4 (05:24):
As a player.
Speaker 3 (05:25):
Sometimes as the season is kicking in the gear after
the first quarter of the season, and so it's tough
sometimes to listen to that and handle that.
Speaker 4 (05:33):
But that's where we are with the NFL right now.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
Yeah, well that's why it's a paint in the ass
to bet on it, because you don't know what the
hell you get. And listen, that's my go to. Like
when people wonder, hey, why is Knox locked so bad
this far in the season through two weeks one in five,
I just put it at that. Listen, we're working through
the kinks here, like, well, we'll get it together and
everything's going to be fine. But the Jets are a
big favorite at home against the Patriots on a short week.
(05:56):
Jacoby Brissett at least once a game thus far this
season looks like somebody came out of the stands and
tased him. Like there's no way he makes it through
the season one piece. I'll say that right now. There's
just no way Drake May is going to eventually take
the field for this team. They've battled, they're playing a
lot better, and I think a lot of people expect that.
I know you've been very down on the Patriots. I've
(06:17):
been nothing but respectful to them as far as Yeah,
like that's been my approach when it comes to New England.
But it is going to be a fun presentation of
Aaron Rodgers the Jets on a Thursday night, we get
the Al Michael's treatment. No wardet as to whether or
not Kirk kurb Street's dog is going to be seen
in the booth there, which I know Petros is a
(06:38):
big fan of. But at least and we're already at
week three, man, it's going to start flying by here soon.
Football season's going to start flying by. Now. This football
season is going to start flying by in Carolina, and
it may start flying by without your guy Bryce Young.
Now we're talking about potentially him being traded.
Speaker 4 (07:02):
Is that be real?
Speaker 3 (07:03):
Well?
Speaker 2 (07:04):
I think that, you know, people are just wondering, Okay,
so what's the plan here. Dave Canalis, who's the head
coach of the Carolina Panthers, he was asked yesterday about
the potential of a Bryce Young trade. It had this
to say, Yeah, that's not something we're really considering.
Speaker 5 (07:17):
You know, we have a great situation with our quarterbacks
right now, with guys that have experienced so we love
where we're at and we're all all hands on deck.
Speaker 4 (07:26):
We're focused on playing the Raiders this week.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
It feels like, and I don't know if I'm reading
too far into this, but the way that this has
been messaged isn't a Hey, he just needs a couple
of weeks to sit back and watch and then he'll
be back out there. It's almost like, man, if Andy
Dalton comes in and this offense looks more like what
we thought it was going to be, Bryce Young's just
not going to get his job back. Like this doesn't
(07:50):
feel like a Hey, sit back, take a break, take
it all in, and then we'll turn to you later
in the year. Like this feels like and I don't
know if they're giving up on him, but he feels
like he's in as bad a spot as we've laid
out on this show many times. And that's why when
you hear teammates come out and defend him, and everybody's
saying the same thing. He's in a terrible spot. He's
(08:12):
in a terrible spot. I just wonder how many people
inside the building are like, maybe it would be better
for him to get the hell out of here. I
just don't know what you could get in return for
Bryce Young based on what they've done to his value
since he's gotten there.
Speaker 4 (08:26):
I don't disagree with that.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
I think a lot of people would look at it
and say, if you're a future quarterback, you're in college,
you might be already talking to agents now who are
saying we are going to do our best to put
our foot down and say we're not going to the
Carolina Panthers because of how they've handled this situation.
Speaker 4 (08:42):
I mean, players are more open that sort of stuff.
Speaker 2 (08:45):
Yeah, and like you should or Sanders or if Deon
gets involved.
Speaker 3 (08:49):
Yeah, I mean you know, they'll be outspoken about it,
or they'll find ways of making sure it makes us
way to the media. But watching how this has been handled,
I mean, Frank Wright, I hadn't getting through a complete
season year one, then you you know, convert now to
this Dave canallis two games into this season, a new offense,
and you're already benching him. I mean, I understand last
(09:12):
year looked awful, and it did, and it looked awful
in comparison to you know, CJ. Stroud, who went one
pick behind him, But you can't really compare the two
and say like, oh, okay, well we made a mistake.
Clearly picked the wrong guy. You know, that was the
decision they made. Now it's about trying to make that
decision right, and if that's all they're willing.
Speaker 4 (09:31):
I mean, the whole Dave canallis.
Speaker 3 (09:33):
Hiring was supposedly for Bryce Young because of look at
what he did with Baker Mayfield last year in Tampa.
Speaker 4 (09:40):
So did that just go out the window two games
in the season it was that bad?
Speaker 3 (09:45):
I mean, I know they got blown out by the Saints,
but that also is a little bit of an indictment
about your your defense too, and last week obviously looked ugly,
which you know, look, Bryce Shong's going to play better.
I mean, no one's going to dine fact that he's not.
You know, he's still not learning how to climb up
into the pocket as opposed to trying to get outside
(10:06):
the pocket. You know, it took a horrible loss on
one player that went viral. But it's also he's not
going to be any patience to throws down the field.
Speaker 4 (10:13):
Even when he does have time.
Speaker 3 (10:15):
You're looking to come, you know, check down quick, and
it's it's it's something that I don't know that it
can be trained out of him at this point with
this team.
Speaker 4 (10:24):
You know, he might just need to go to a
better situation.
Speaker 3 (10:26):
So I understand there's people who have loved to speculate
and say, well, if Carolina's not gonna, you know, use him,
and if this works with Andy Dalton, then then they
should just move on. They should get something in exchange
from now while he's still on his rookie deal, allow
him to go elsewhere and they can go rebuild again.
But I think that thought processes. You're gonna have a
hard time finding guys from college who have now had
(10:47):
Like here's the difference too, with guys before who'd never
been represented by an agent. They don't think like that
because their first introduction into football as a business would
have been the NFL when they get drafted. Now these
young men are you know, they've got agents come out
of high school. Somebody's top quarterback recruits will have an
agent out of high school.
Speaker 4 (11:08):
So they're always thinking about it from.
Speaker 3 (11:10):
A business perspective, and you better believe they're gonna be
looking at the draft like now, I like I could
have more of a say in this, you know, no
different than you know how things went when I had
I got to pick my college and I don't what
about that way. So it's going to be interesting to
see what the impact is on Carolina after the season,
depending on what the quarterback situation is, to see how
(11:32):
the college quarterbacks handle this.
Speaker 2 (11:34):
If you could pick a spot and a coach who
could get the most out of Bryce Young if there
was an opportunity, is it Shanahan or is it McVeigh, Like,
who would you say would be the best spot for him?
Speaker 4 (11:46):
M It's a tough question.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
I And obviously he wouldn't be as the starter. He
would go there and just get worked into the mix here.
Speaker 3 (11:55):
But it would be somewhere along the lines of Shannon
and McVeigh, Kevin O'Connell, one of those three.
Speaker 4 (12:03):
One of those three.
Speaker 3 (12:05):
Although you know, you look at what Miami's doing, Miami's
a team that I don't know, might khit the tires
on that if I'm Mike McDaniel. I mean, if you
think about the skill set of Bryce Young, I mean
he's smaller similar to Sua. It's not like two has
the strongest arm, neither is Bryce Young, but they can
(12:25):
make all the throws. I mean, that's a system that
I actually think could also work extremely well, and it
might make some sense depending on what to his decision
is in four games or five weeks with their buy in.
Speaker 2 (12:37):
Between got it cha. I feel terrible for the guy.
I really do, like it's just and then and what
people are making the comp here. I think it's through
like what the first thirteen or fifteen games, whatever it is.
But you know, his numbers are actually better than Trevor Lawrence,
Yet the conversation between the two is completely different. And
you know it's not to say that Trevor Lawrence and
(12:59):
you know, obviously he's at a better career than Bryce Young,
but I just think he's had better opportunities, like an
organization that's not as I don't I don't cutthroat is
the right term, or an organization and an owner it's
not as impulsive. But like, dude, there's a common denominator.
Coaches are are turned and burned too quick. Players are
turned and burned. Like you just look at all the
(13:21):
players that they've had there that they've moved off of,
and there's one common denominator and it's David Tepper, who's
there like at some point, like you just like you're
looking at the situation going as long as he's there,
this isn't getting better, So like who would want to
sign up for that? And I also wanted this if
Dave Canalis and this is not any shaded Dave Canalis
because he did do a great job with Baker Mayfield.
(13:43):
Like where else was he like a guy who was
a leading candidate to be a head coach. Like it
almost was almost was like, I mean, we're down to this,
and if I'm not mistaken, he was either the last
coach to be hired last year or one of the
last coaches. But I'm sure Belichick looked at that and
was like, I don't want any part of that, Like, like,
why would I want to deal with that.
Speaker 3 (14:04):
Belichick's not He's a red buttoning David Tepper if he calls, Yeah,
I mean it could be a daily weekly call. At
this point, he's red buttoning David Tepper every time.
Speaker 2 (14:14):
Man, what a mess. I mean, to.
Speaker 3 (14:17):
Your point, there's there's elements of it that everyone keeps saying, Well,
I wonder if the NFL is gonna step in and
they're gonna say something to David Tepper or you know,
making this team more competitive.
Speaker 4 (14:27):
It's like, dude, who's behind that? Like, like, who's bringing
that up?
Speaker 3 (14:32):
Do you think some of these owners who are looking
at the Carolina Panthers now is a doormat are going
to Roger Goodell and saying, well, you know, Roger, we
really got to get this team more competitive.
Speaker 4 (14:41):
Come on, Roger, we gotta do something about that. They
don't care.
Speaker 3 (14:45):
Like David Tepper bought the team, It helped all their
evaluations of their franchises, and now they get them go
blow the doors out their team for the foreseeable future.
Speaker 4 (14:54):
You don't think you.
Speaker 3 (14:54):
Think these owners would to rally up and be like competitive.
It's like, that's.
Speaker 4 (14:59):
Not how this works.
Speaker 5 (15:00):
You know.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
The other part too, is like how long did it
take him before they finally were able to get Dan
Snyder out? And they had so much evidence and not
just bad play on the field, but just terrible management,
like allegation scandal, like it took what two decades to
finally get him out, and then you know, it was
like you would need David Tepper to either willingly want
(15:24):
out of this situation or they would find some dirt
on him and go he has to go, Like and
at that point it's still gonna probably take you know
the process of that is going to be several years. Yeah,
he's not going anywhere. This just is what it is.
And if you're a Panthers fan good luck. Like you know,
they couldn't they couldn't wait to get it rid of
Jerry Richardson, and I get all the reasons why, but
(15:46):
since he's taken over, it's been a mess, and it's.
Speaker 3 (15:49):
It's been awful. And and they're gonna beating that big
drum down there in Carolina every once in a while, yeah,
not very often. It's just it's sad. It's sad to
see what the Carolina Panthers, you know, used to be.
And it's hard to have words for Bryce Young. I
think Baker Mayfield talked about it, about him getting another shot,
(16:09):
but the reality is, you don't know. And it's why
I always go back to situation and circumstance. It is
the biggest thing that impacts players' careers. And yes, there
are some people that are uber talented. You know, Patrick
Mahomes probably no matter where he goes, would be able
to win a lot of football games and play really well.
Speaker 4 (16:29):
He's just that talented. But the rest of the players who.
Speaker 3 (16:34):
Are talented enough to play in the NFL at the
professional level, they need a situation in circumstance in order
to excel. And look at Baker Mayfield in Tampa. There's
an example of that. Look at Jared Goff and Detroit.
You start going through the list of different quarterbacks who
go different spots, It's like, what's work Sam Darnold Minnesota
right now? I mean, that's the truth of all this.
(16:55):
So I know people want Bryce Young to end up
somewhere else. I think if David Tepper made the decision
to draft him, unless he's just done with them, they're
gonna have a hard time moving on from him at
least this year. And it's gonna be a long it's
gonna be a long road ahead. But by the way
I meant to I meant to fix what I said
(17:16):
in regards to the line for the Jets or the Patriots,
it's specifically to the Jets and Patriots matchup. So the
last time the Jets were favorites against the Patriots by
more than six and a half points was Week four
in September twenty sixth, nineteen ninety three. Oh they've been
exactly six and a half points point favorites twice since then,
(17:37):
which is twenty and nineteen ninety eight. So in regards
to the Thursday night football matchup, that's those are the
last three times they've been a six and a half
point favorite or more since nineteen ninety here's twenty nineteen
ninety eight.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
Like you talk about a betting doormat for three decades,
that's what it's been like in this matchup. And they
finally won last year. Like, remember there was that long stretch,
what was it like fourteen straight games or fifteen straight
games where the Patriots had beaten the Jets. And then
finally last year it was you know, Belichick's final game
against the Jets, and the Jets finally won that game
(18:16):
to beat New England. But ninety three was the last
time they were this big of a favorite. That's thirty years.
Over thirty years that going into a game, people are like,
oh yeah, they got no chance, Like like, if you're
going to bet on this, go the other. That is awful. Well, listen,
the Jets are back, baby, Aaron Rodgers make a statement tonight.
(18:38):
You got an opportunity to make make Jets fans feel
good about things.
Speaker 1 (18:42):

ahead at Thursday and at football and we're going to
workshop this thing together on the air. You and meet Babe,
ready to do this? You go, we go, Bull and
Axe just like back Draft.
Speaker 4 (20:14):
Well, we'll see what this segment holds then interesting.
Speaker 2 (20:17):
Yeah, so we will get into that here in about
five minutes from now. But it is time for something
that full disclosure, I forgot that we did last year
until somebody brought it up on social media. It's called
Quinn's Wins and I'm fired up for because I can't
wait to fade whatever this pick is.
Speaker 4 (20:37):
Yeah, I'm glad you're fired up for.
Speaker 3 (20:39):
You're the one that actually was the motivation behind the
l so yeah, hell yeah.
Speaker 4 (20:43):
Well here's what we're going to start off with tonight.
Speaker 3 (20:45):
Everyone's talking about the AFC East matchup in the NFL's
at on Thursday night football. But look, folks, we got
some college football tonight.
Speaker 4 (20:55):
That's right.
Speaker 3 (20:56):
South Alabama heads to boot North Carolina to take on
Apple Lasian State. And mind you, this is coming off
of a South Alabama win for the decades, absolutely blowing
out the doors of Northwestern State just a week ago.
And so we know South Alabama can put up some points.
(21:19):
They scored eighty seven points. They beat North Northwestern State
eighty seven to ten. When's last time you heard of
us score like that in football?
Speaker 7 (21:26):
Over?
Speaker 4 (21:27):
My god?
Speaker 3 (21:28):
But their quarterback, by the way, freshman quarterback Geo Lopez,
he's played great this year. He's got eight total touchdowns,
no interceptions so far for a freshman, that's balling. And
do you know who the head coaches there at South Alabama. No,
it's old major Apple White. It really exis quarterback Yeah yeah,
head coaching. Yeah, head coaching Jaguar. So this is a
(21:50):
matchup where look, Apple lash and State can put up
some points too.
Speaker 4 (21:54):
Neither of these teams are that good on defense.
Speaker 3 (21:56):
So the best play here, and if you go to
our good friends that draft came, you can find the
over under at sixty three. The over is the best
play in this game, but I'm going to take South
Alabama as well plus seven points. I just think both
teams are gonna be scoring. It might be a little
back and forth battle. One of my concerns. Even though
(22:17):
Apps stain have about fifteen starters coming back this year,
only one on the offensive line. I think South Alabama
can get after Joey Aguilar, the quarterback for Apple Lash.
Speaker 4 (22:26):
And state South.
Speaker 3 (22:27):
South Alabama keeps it within the number and a lot
of scoring in this on the over of sixty three points.
Checked out the weather there in Boone, North Carolina, and
there is supposed to be rain about the middle of
the day, late afternoon, but nothing heading into the evening,
so it should be good conditions for this one. Moving
on to the NFL Thursday Night Football, We've got the Jets.
Speaker 4 (22:48):
We talked about that earlier.
Speaker 3 (22:49):
It's the biggest favorite they've been since what nineteen ninety three,
twenty nineteen ninety eight.
Speaker 4 (22:55):
We've kind of seen the number bouncing around.
Speaker 3 (22:58):
This is one though, where I feel pretty confident laying
the six points here. That's where DraftKings has the number
right now with the New York Jets. But the best
play the under of thirty eight and a half. This
just oozes a game to me where I don't think
we're gonna see a lot of scoring. I don't think
we're gonna see the Pats scoring a lot, even though
we've seen the Jets defensive struggles so far this year,
(23:19):
and I think for the.
Speaker 4 (23:20):
Jets, look they're going up gets to tough Pats defense.
Speaker 3 (23:23):
Points have been hard to come by when you're playing
New England and you know this is an offense. I
think we talked about it earlier. They found their rhythm
in the second half last week, but the reality is
still work in progress. So the under of thirty eight
and a half is the best play for tonight's Thursday
Night football. But go ahead, lay the six points to
with the Jets, they will take care of business.
Speaker 2 (23:44):
Look at that some Quinns wins here on a Thursday morning.
Speaker 4 (23:47):
Fade that fade that Jonas.
Speaker 2 (23:49):
I don't think I want to say that. By the way,
I was looking up the eighty seven points by South
Alabama they scored. I was trying to find the most
points ever scored in college football game. Somebody I did
see this. Back in nineteen sixteen, Georgia Tech beat Cumberland
two hundred and twenty two to nothing. I dispute that.
Speaker 3 (24:12):
I don't think that that's a real that had been
like every single play they're scoring a touchdown.
Speaker 2 (24:17):
The Navy beat North Texas in two thousand and seven
seventy four to sixty two. Pitt beat Syracuse seventy six
sixty one in twenty sixteen Western Michigan.
Speaker 3 (24:27):
I'm saying, like, think about that margin of victory. Yeah,
seventy seven points is the margin victory that and then
it's scoring eighty seven in general. But I want to
say somewhere I heard it was one of the largest
point totals ever for like two FBS teams something like that.
Speaker 2 (24:42):
It's gotta be. Yeah, that's that's impressive. Well, listen, that'll
be that'll be a fun watch. And I kind of
would side with you on the on the Jets except
for one one portion of that. So we'll get into
that here from the Tyraq dot Com Studios, Two Pros
and a Cup of Joe here on Fox Sports Radio
up at about twelve minutes from now, a Super Bowl
(25:02):
champion could be making his return very controversial exit from
the NFL, but could be making his return to the
world of football coming up here, and we'll tell you
who that is again fifteen minutes from now from the
ti raq dot com studios. All right, so it's time
to throw a parlay party here, So courtesy of our
friends at DraftKings, you look around the NFL slate and look,
it could be tonight's game, it could be a game
(25:25):
on Sunday one of the Monday night game. But if
you're picking a game that you feel most confident right
now about this weekend, what's your pick? If you had
to Brady quill, I mean.
Speaker 4 (25:37):
Not to beat a dead horse here.
Speaker 3 (25:38):
You could pick against the Carolina Panthers, But little concerned
that Andy Dalton mike him a spark. You know, sometimes
you get that backup coming in. It sparks the offense
changes things up a bit, maybe the defense doesn't know
what to expect quite as much. So I'm gonna stay
away from that one. I'm gonna go with the Cleveland
Browns and I'm gonna lay these six and a half
(25:59):
points versus the New York Giants, who've got their offensive struggles.
Speaker 4 (26:03):
Of their own.
Speaker 3 (26:04):
And look, I think that offensive line for the Giants
is gonna have a hard time versus the Jim Schwartz
defense there in Cleveland, a lot of pressure, a lot
of tough matchups for them up front and on the
flip side, like I said, we know the Giants have
had a hard time scoring, so I think the Browns
started to find something a little bit last week. It
was an ugly win, but it was a nice win
(26:25):
versus Jacksonville. So I think they'll be able to take
care of business versus the Giants. They lay the six
and l points.
Speaker 2 (26:30):
Man, the Giants are bad boy like now, and you know,
you look at that game last week and you go,
man if Melik Neighbors makes that catch, like there's an
opportunity for them to go down and win that game,
and they just couldn't. You know, their their kicker, you know,
got hurt, and you know what the opening kickoff like,
it just felt like everything was falling apart for them.
And then when they finally were putting something together and
(26:52):
it felt like that was a game they might surprise somebody.
Melik Neighbors, you know, it drops that path that's not
on Daniel Jones. That was a drop and so now
Daniel Jones has got to come back and have to
deal with that front in Cleveland. This could get real
luckly for him. I've been consistent with this. I'm telling
you right now. The Dallas Cowboys getting a point at
(27:13):
home against the Baltimore Ravens this Sunday. I love it.
I love this spot. We've seen Dallas do this before
where they get blown out or they lose a game
they had vote no business losing the previous week, and
they come back and they always respond. I know it's
pretty much a must win for Baltimore can't start off
the season no. One three. But I think Dallas in
(27:34):
this spot, I trust that they're going to get him done.
And they're getting a point at home there against the
Baltimore Ravens. What do you think about that?
Speaker 3 (27:41):
I'm not as big of a fan of that one.
Something tells me I'm a big concern to think Baltimore
is going to go.
Speaker 4 (27:46):
What oh to three?
Speaker 3 (27:47):
Yeah, I just I don't know. Man, doesn't sound right,
doesn't look right. Can't cost sign on that. I just
there's something about it. That's what I would probably stay
away from. But if I was gonna play it, I'd
most likely be on the other side.
Speaker 2 (28:03):
I mean, how about the Rams getting seven points against
the Niners at home. That's a lot.
Speaker 3 (28:09):
That's an interesting one too, but it's an interesting one
that makes me go the other way. But it's interesting
too when you think about cmax out, Deebo Samuel's out,
and maybe that plays into the line.
Speaker 4 (28:20):
But again it makes me think.
Speaker 3 (28:21):
That maybe this goes the other way, especially you know,
if the Rams don't get off to a fast start
become a one dimensional team that really plays in the
forty nine.
Speaker 2 (28:30):
Ers hands, all right, Arizona Cardinals plus three against the
Lions at home.
Speaker 4 (28:34):
That's what I like. That's what I like.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
I think I had a whole underdog like that, usually
tougher for a West Coast team going east and east
going west, but I still think the way they've played
this year, like that's when I take the three points.
Speaker 4 (28:46):
All right.
Speaker 2 (28:47):
So basically what we're doing here is we're work shopping
a three team parlay courtesy of Draftking. So if you
were to like to listen to this and go, all right,
so we kind of like those three games. We like
the Cleveland Browns minus is six and a half, the
Dallas Cowboys getting a point, even though we're guys on
the other side of that. All right, Well, listen, it's us.
We're doing this together, all right, so we support each
other on this show. I told you bowl and Axe
(29:08):
think backdraft. So we got Cleveland minus six and a half.
We got Dallas getting a point at home, and we've
got Arizona getting three points at home. This is a
nice little three team parlay, baby, like a little three
team parlay. So you throw in ten bucks there, You
look around and you go, all right, this is going
to pay out plus five eighty one. So a ten
(29:29):
dollars parlay plays out five eighty one on the plus
side of that, So you can make some real money.
You can make real cash here on DraftKings if you
just go there, pick a few games. You can do
what Brady did. If you like Thursday Night football, you
can take the Jets minus the six and a half,
and you can take the under of thirty eight and
a half or minus six in the under of thirty
(29:49):
eight and a half. It's all available. Go to DraftKings.
That's the spot if you want to throw yourself a
damn parlay party as well.
Speaker 1 (29:56):
Be sure to catch live editions of two Pros and
a Couple Joe with Brady Quinn LeVar Errington and Jonas
Knox weekdays at six a m. Eastern three am Pacific.
Speaker 2 (30:07):
If you're listening here and you hear all this, we're
going through the uh the list of jobs that Albert
Breer has now.
Speaker 4 (30:15):
Like we're going through all of the lot of jobs.
I mean a lot of jobs.
Speaker 2 (30:18):
He's like the Ryan Seacrest of sports media. Now on
top of everything else he's got going on with the
m m QB, he's part of Amazon's NFL on Prime
coverage coming up later. AB, congratulations first and foremost, and uh,
I mean, where do you find the time?
Speaker 5 (30:35):
Thanks?
Speaker 8 (30:36):
Guys.
Speaker 5 (30:36):
Well, the checks keep clearing, so that's good.
Speaker 4 (30:41):
We didn't think you're doing it for free, Albert.
Speaker 5 (30:43):
I mean yeah, no.
Speaker 8 (30:45):
No, no, no, it's great.
Speaker 5 (30:46):
It's uh, you know, honestly kind of you know, we
we we've we've been talking about for the last three
or four months.
Speaker 8 (30:52):
And uh, you know, it's a great group of guys.
Speaker 5 (30:54):
I'm sure as you guys know, like you know, working
with with Fits and and Sherman and with Carissa and
and Tony on the pregame show, it was awesome last
week and awesome getting to know them.
Speaker 8 (31:06):
A little bit better.
Speaker 5 (31:07):
And it's a great group, you know, and it kind
of you know, it's interesting. I I I always tell
people like when I when I talk to like journalism classes,
I'm like, the meet and detato is my job, and
every one of my jobs are the same. It's to
get to know people. It's you know, to be connected.
It's to have information that's useful. And there's lots of
different ways in this day and age to deliver that information,
(31:29):
I guess, so I'm trying to take advantage of that.
Speaker 2 (31:31):
No, congratulations, man, that's awesome.
Speaker 4 (31:33):
That's awesome, well deserved.
Speaker 2 (31:36):
And now, speaking of which, we've got Thursday Night football
later on tonight. Any movement at all on the Hassan
Redick front, it feels like the Jets could probably use
that pass rush help with the Jermaine Johnson injuries or
injury that took place this week. So what are we
looking at with the Son?
Speaker 5 (31:50):
I mean, this is just a really weird one because
it's I think the Jets still aren't even sure what
the sticking point is, you know, and they felt like
at two or three different point points over the last
few months like okay, like we're making progress. Maybe he's
going to come in and now they're really not sure
what to think.
Speaker 8 (32:07):
Now.
Speaker 5 (32:08):
Doesn't Jermaine Johnson injury highlight this, Yeah, did it change anything?
I'm not sure, you know. I know for right now
they're feeling is they want to go in and see
what it looks like tonight without Jermaine Johnson. Will McDonald,
their first round pick from a couple of years ago,
looked really good last week at three sacks against the Titans,
you know, and they've got a couple of reclamation projects
(32:29):
in that D line group, guys like Pat McKinley that
they did they feel good about, so you know, they'll
take a look at tonight.
Speaker 8 (32:37):
There are a couple of guys out.
Speaker 5 (32:38):
There, you know as street free agents, Frank Clark, uh
Janig and Gockway. They either know Robert Sala or have
experience in his system.
Speaker 8 (32:47):
So they'll go through tonight.
Speaker 5 (32:49):
They'll they'll they'll reassess, you know. But I think as
far as reussan RD, it goes, it's sort of anybody's
guess what happens here. And you know, I do think
one thing that's you know, a pretty big piece of
the puzzle is that you've got some important dates coming up.
The trade deadline is November fifth, and not only is that,
you know, important because you know that would be the
(33:10):
last day to be traded, but also because after that
point the Jets really have control over whether or not
he can come back this year. And then on you know,
the Tuesday before Week thirteen, which is November twenty sixth
ben soot. By then he can't play the rest of
the year, which means his contract would toll, which means
he wouldn't be a free agent in twenty twenty five.
So I think there's like the feeling that he's definitely
(33:30):
going to be in before then, but you know between,
But what happens between now and then is really anyone's gas.
Speaker 3 (33:37):
I want to go to Carolina and just talk about
the benching of Bryce Young.
Speaker 4 (33:40):
Whose decision was it? Albert? What have you heard?
Speaker 8 (33:43):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (33:44):
I mean, I think the interesting thing hasn't been so
much talking to the Panthers as the opponents. You know,
the obviously the Chargers and Saints put it on. The
Panther's pretty good the first two weeks, and the other
Raiders are preparing, so they've all gotten a good.
Speaker 8 (33:57):
Look at him. And you know what's come back Brady.
Speaker 5 (34:00):
Is he's not like even it doesn't even look like
he's even considering throwing the ball down field right now.
He's not seeing the middle of the field. And maybe
the worst thing of all, Like what what these defensive
coaches are seeing is he's looking at the rush and
doesn't want to get hit. And I think that's sort
of the death meal for an NFL quarterback, you know,
So you know, I you know, I know, talking to
(34:22):
one guy, it's like, you know, the guy they saw
that was a fast processor with the quick eyes at
Alabama looks like he's gone right now. And so I
think there are two pieces into this this decision for
the Panthers. One it's you know, probably giving Bryce Young
a break, and then number two it's you know, you're
serving the rest of your team and Dave Canalis in
(34:43):
his first year, can he sell what Bryce Young is
right now to the locker room? You know, I think
the answers probably know, which is why you go with
a veteran like Andy Dalton in this spot.
Speaker 2 (34:53):
Was Dave canal as like was he thought of as
a serious candidate anywhere else? But line of meaning? Were
there other coaches and said we don't want any part
of that match based on the Frank Reich Matt Rules situation.
Speaker 5 (35:07):
I mean, I certainly think like they were going to
have trouble hiring into that position just because of the
circumstances and because of the reputation of the owner. Right
like so, I I think what you're what you're representing
their jones is real like that, you know, like that
they weren't going to have their pick of the letter,
you know, based on on all the circumstances and what
(35:29):
happened to Frank right there and how they ended in
that rule era was handled, and you know how Steve
Wilkes was handled as a as an interim coach. I think,
you know, for for for a lot of different reasons,
that wasn't seen as a very attractive job, you know
I and now it's wasn't seen as some hot candidate,
Like I'm not going to tell you there were three
other teams that were, you know, ready to offer a job,
(35:50):
which wasn't the case. Now I can understand the logic
and hiring him, which was if you've ever been around Dave,
he is the most positive, uplifting person of the areund
and they felt like they needed that. They felt like
they needed a guy.
Speaker 2 (36:05):
Around.
Speaker 5 (36:05):
He's an awesome guy, right, Like, he's an awesome guy,
and like so like there's that part of it. And
then there's also like, you know, there's I forgot you
were with him in Seattle, right right, Brady, you know,
and like, so there's that part of it. Like and
then I think that there's the work that he's done
with quarterbacks the last few years where you know, he helps
you know, the he helped the Bucks get the most
out of Baker Mayfield. He helped the the Seahawks basically
(36:30):
rescue Gino Smith's career, you know, and so like you've
seen him, you know, get quarterbacks turned around, you know, in.
Speaker 8 (36:39):
The very recent in the very recent past.
Speaker 5 (36:41):
You know. So those two things I think were major
reasons why they hired. I mean, I think both those
reasons make logical sense. I'm not sure that I would
really put the blame on him for what's happening with
Bryce Young right now.
Speaker 3 (36:54):
You know.
Speaker 5 (36:54):
I think for him, it's like sort of like the
question becomes, how do we manage this? And I think
like the way they thought it was the best way
to manage it is to give him a little bit
of a breather and give the team another answer at
the position.
Speaker 3 (37:07):
I guess the question becomes though, like is it David
Tepper's opinion that that's coming from or is it Dave
kanala is doing it? Because you know, we're just trying
to get a sense of, you know, how this organization
is run and who's ultimately calling the shots there.
Speaker 5 (37:22):
Yeah, and the tricky thing is the Tepper. You know,
Tepper's very involved in the high end decision. I don't know,
I don't know that he's there on a daily basis though,
so you know, and it's it's interesting because the way
they hired, so they hired Dave to be the head coach,
they hire Brent Tillis to you kind of be the
(37:44):
analytics side guy from Kansas City, and I think I
think Keepper really did want to hire an analytics side GM,
but he kind of middled that decision. So brant Is
kind of is brought in as the the EVP of
football operations, and then they elevate Dan Morgan to be
the general manager. Well, you know, Dan, who's very well
thought of across the league, was part of the mess
(38:04):
the last few years, you know, So it's it's it's
not like it's I mean, it's not that different in
the way like the Lions or the Niners or the
Rams are set up. Like I'd say that's probably the
model closet into the model that they have right now.
But the division of power is new there, you know,
so I think people there are working through it. And
(38:25):
even if Keepper isn't putting his is his hand on
the scale. He's been involved enough where I think like
people in that building get an idea of what he wants,
Like he's not afraid to voice his opinion, and you know,
could that at the very least be coloring some of
the decisions. I think that that certainly could be the case.
Speaker 4 (38:44):
Just want to touch on the to a topic.
Speaker 3 (38:46):
Obviously, with his teeth concussion, it feels like and he's
now an ir When do you think we'll get an
idea of you know, what he'll be back if he's
coming back, I mean, is there a real potential of
him just deciding to you know, turn it down and
that's it and retire.
Speaker 8 (39:06):
I don't think so.
Speaker 5 (39:07):
I mean, I I mean, even like going back to
like that night, you know, like when it happened and
being there for it and you know, I I saw
some of his family members that night, like you know,
in the aftermath and just seeing how they were processing it.
I don't think that, Like, I don't think retirement right
now is part of.
Speaker 8 (39:27):
Tua's thought process.
Speaker 5 (39:30):
But could that change based on what a specialist tells him?
Speaker 8 (39:34):
Maybe? I mean, look like.
Speaker 5 (39:37):
I always struggle with this, Brady, because I you know,
like Tony was on our Post team show and Tony Gonzalez,
like obviously legendary tight end gets on there and he says,
what was my son? I would tell him not to play?
And I think like we all kind of put ourselves
in those shoes, right, Like if you were his brother
or you were his dad, what would you be telling
him to do? You'd be telling him to retire absolutely right.
(39:58):
That's different than being the player self. And I think,
you know, Teddy Bruski had great insight into this and
having comeback from the stroke on ESPN's Free Game and
saying what the mentality the athlete is? I mean, I Brady,
I think, like, I have so much respect for all
of you guys because I think the psychologically what you
guys go through is so unique, which is like I
mean imagine being so good at something that it becomes
(40:20):
your identity in high school, and then you go to
college for free for it, and then you become a
millionaire because of it, and so much of who you
are is based on your ability to do this one
thing at a very high level. And then when you're
thirty years old, somebody comes and taps you on your
shoulder and says, you can never do this again, you know,
and it's over. And that's a really really hard thing
to reckon with for even guys who aren't, you know,
(40:42):
forced out by injury, it's hard for every one of them.
Where you have I'm sure it's hard for you, you know,
where you know you have more than half of your
life to live in this thing that you know, it's
such a big part of who you are is now gone.
You can't do it again. So like to have it
happen suddenly like that and be in that spot, Like
think for anybody like me who you know, like didn't
play sportscast high school, like I can't relate with that,
(41:03):
Like you know, like, so can I say I would retire? Yeah,
I can say I would retire. There's a ton of
money that you have in the bank and all the
rest of it. But the psychology of an athlete going
through that is something else entirely and something I respect,
and you know, I think, you know two is of
the mind that like I definitely want to try to
get back out there. You know. Now we'll see what
(41:23):
the medical heavy medical information comes back and how that
affect him.
Speaker 8 (41:26):
And everything else.
Speaker 5 (41:27):
But I certainly think for any of us that they
haven't played at that level, haven't achieved at that level
in athletics, it's hard to relate with what he's going through.
Speaker 2 (41:36):
Albert Briers joining us here on Fox Sports Radio, part
of Amazon's coverage of Thursday Night Football coming up later
on tonight. Also Senior nf a reporter lead content strategist
at the MMQB. I want to ask your thoughts on
the performance of Caleb Williams two games into his career.
It's worse than I thought it would be, just the
(41:58):
offense from people you've talked to.
Speaker 4 (42:00):
What sort of.
Speaker 2 (42:01):
The thought on him just a couple of games in
so far.
Speaker 5 (42:05):
Yeah, I mean, I think like there's so I think
there's a couple of things, Like I think that there's
a process of figuring out what he can get away
with and what he can't get away with, just as
far as like the off schedule stuff, right, Like I
do think like the way that things were last year
USC with the offensive line issue they had, like he
became very reliant on playing that way. And I think
(42:25):
now it's you know, sort of figuring out what what
I can get away with and what I can't.
Speaker 8 (42:29):
Get away with.
Speaker 5 (42:30):
And I actually think, like if you watch the broadcast,
I think it was sort of reflected in the way
Chris Collinsworth called the game. And what I mean by
that is like you guys know, like they're they're obviously
in production meetings, so they're talking to the coaches before
the game, and they're talking to Caleb before the game.
And there was a point early in that game where
I mean Chris Collinsworth was over the moon over him
(42:51):
throwing a plant, you know what I mean. Like, I
don't know if you guys got that.
Speaker 2 (42:54):
It just looks different. It looks different.
Speaker 4 (42:57):
Okay, do your impression. You can do better, Like he just.
Speaker 2 (43:00):
From one week to the next, it just looks different
for him. And it's great to see and that.
Speaker 5 (43:07):
And and and and I and you know what, like
that is guys. Is that is Matt Abraflues and Shane
Waldron telling Chris and the production meeting like this is
what we're trying. We're trying to get him to take
the layups, you know what I mean. We're trying to
get him to make the easy throws. And I can
remember Josh Allen going through this with Brian Daball in Buffalo,
(43:28):
and I remember talking to to Dave's about it, like
I remember him like he told me, like he showed
Josh a ton of tape on Tom Brady, and the
reason he did it wasn't to show, Okay, here's the
greatest of all time. He did it because he was showing.
He wanted to show Josh like look how many layups
Tom takes, you know what I mean, Like, look how many?
Look how much of this like of what Tom does
(43:50):
is just taking easy money, And like they're trying to
teach him that, you know.
Speaker 8 (43:54):
I think that that's.
Speaker 5 (43:54):
Sort of the process that that that Caleb is going
through now, where like Josh Allen was able to be
Superman all the time, doesn't mean you should be Superman
all the time, you know. I think that's sort of
where Caleb is right now, Now you gotta be.
Speaker 3 (44:07):
Clark Kent sometimes right right, like the normal nerdy guy
with the glasses on.
Speaker 5 (44:12):
That's like the guy who's doing the mass problem is
he's like, yeah, hey, there's a there's a good matchup
over there, so I'm going to take advantage of it exactly.
Speaker 3 (44:20):
So I got you know, I think you know the
only difference between Clark Kent and Superman was what outside.
Speaker 4 (44:27):
Of the glasses, what was the difference He switches part?
Speaker 3 (44:32):
Huh he changed his part from one one side one
one way to the otherwise?
Speaker 8 (44:36):
That right?
Speaker 4 (44:37):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (44:37):
Was it on the right side on one side?
Speaker 4 (44:40):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (44:40):
Wow, that's a good detail. Right, Is this out there?
Speaker 4 (44:44):
Well, I mean, I don't know if it is or not.
Speaker 3 (44:46):
Isn't But we were talking about Batman is a uniform
whatever you talk about Batman wears. But but some had nipples,
some didn't throughout the years, So we were talking about
that earlier.
Speaker 2 (44:56):
Yeah wow, very wow.
Speaker 5 (44:58):
I think I'm I don't know, Joan, It's like we
would put a pin in this one, Like I think
we think we may have broken some new crowds. I
just say, Superman's been around for like what like almost
one hundred years. Probably the person heard of it.
Speaker 2 (45:09):
It's that sort of detail you get from a quarterback.
All right, they are so on top of it now.
I didn't want to ask you again, total hypothetical here,
not that you would have any interest at all in
any of this stuff. But we're just kind of bouncing around.
And you know, obviously big newon kickoff is in Columbus, Ohio.
Speaker 8 (45:25):
You've got a home game this weekend.
Speaker 2 (45:26):
Well, I mean, look, and I just it just so
happens that, you know, the Ohio State Buck guys are
a you know, I mean, hypothetically, do you expect them
to win? The final score is read that they'll be,
you know, forty points better or more than Marshall this Saturday?
What do you think maybe.
Speaker 5 (45:42):
Yeah, after the Western Michigan game, I would say yes,
I would say yes, I think that we're I think
I think I think they're they're in a very very
good place right now. And I think chips off Senflix
it didn't look it didn't look quite right against ACCLA,
and it looks spectacular against Western Michigan. So I know
Western Michigan, you know which whatever is Western Michigan. But
(46:05):
I think I think they found some things there, and
I think they'll win rather comfortably against Marshall. I would
I would give the forty points.
Speaker 2 (46:14):
How about that? How about that?
Speaker 4 (46:16):
Now?
Speaker 2 (46:16):
Are you planning on getting out to any games in
Columbus or I am?
Speaker 5 (46:19):
I am? Yeah, I got to figure all that out.
But I was actually going to go to Michigan State
next week.
Speaker 8 (46:24):
But you know, it screws this up now for me.
Speaker 5 (46:26):
It's like I'm sort of feeling with NFL fans deal
with the flex. It's how late they announced the games,
you know.
Speaker 8 (46:31):
So like I knew, like I.
Speaker 5 (46:34):
Talked to some people I know with the networks and stuff,
and they were I guess there was a chance you
guys were going to go Brady to to Ohio State
Michigan State next weekend, right, And.
Speaker 4 (46:44):
Maybe I don't think we had the pick too, but.
Speaker 8 (46:47):
Go ahead, right, So, like I think that.
Speaker 5 (46:50):
It was just it was like I had somebody telling
me like, Okay, like it's probably going to be at
seven o'clock on Peacock, but it might be a big
new kickoff game. So I was like, all right, Well,
if it's a big new kickoff game, I can go
because then I can a bunch of my buddies are
running a house in East Lansing next weekend, and so
I think if it's a big new kickoff, I can
go because I can probably get to Detroit just flight
(47:12):
getting the last flight out like that night. Unfortunately, it's
a seven o'clock game, so I can't do it. But
I'm going to get to a game probably in October,
and then I'm I'm actually like going to book my
flight here the next couple of days for the game
after Thanksgiving.
Speaker 3 (47:25):
The most interesting one I think they have coming up
is Nebraska, because Nebraska could be undefeated.
Speaker 4 (47:31):
By the time.
Speaker 5 (47:32):
I mean, Nebraska was legit, no question.
Speaker 3 (47:35):
Yeah, so that that to me would be the one
that if you're looking at their home schedule.
Speaker 5 (47:39):
That one at the end of October.
Speaker 3 (47:41):
Yeah, I think it's like the last weekend of October,
October twenty six, final game.
Speaker 5 (47:45):
Okay, the month there you go, there you go.
Speaker 8 (47:47):
You might still my travel schedule.
Speaker 5 (47:49):
Does that look like, I know, you can't announce these things, Gray,
does that look like it might be a big new
kickoff game.
Speaker 3 (47:55):
I can't announce anything, but I would say there's a
high probability that I will.
Speaker 8 (47:59):
Be Okay, Okay, Well that makes me so good.
Speaker 2 (48:03):
Well listen, AB, we'll be watching later on tonight again.
