The way tire buying should be LeVar Arrington, Brady Quinn,
Jonas knoxs with you here. So yesterday on the show
we were talking about Brady, you spotted Dave Canalis, who.
Speaker 4 (01:15):
I've heard you and Albert Breer say, is like.
Speaker 5 (01:17):
A really good dude, but that the season just seven
weeks in is already starting to possibly wear him out
as far as how things are going in Carolina. And
so yesterday he spoke with the media in Carolina, and
there's been some thought that, you know, it's not really
going all that well with Andy Dalton. They put him in,
they won their first game against the Raiders. What's the
(01:40):
plan with Bryce Young? Could he potentially be traded? And
this is how it sounded.
Speaker 6 (01:44):
Right now, We're focused on the Broncos. Andy's played this
week and that's really where our focus is at, you know,
and all those other conversations are all hypothetical conversations that
you know, definitely, Dan Brempt, you know that we have
to have. But right now we're focused on playing Broncos
and you know, folks on getting Andy to take another
step in terms of getting this back to the.
Speaker 4 (02:02):
Early conversations that are ongoing and be a part.
Speaker 6 (02:05):
Of again, all hypothetical questions were focused on the Broncos and.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
Any of But from a not hypothetical standpoint, you have
said multiple times that any a.
Speaker 4 (02:13):
Shouldest chance the way you guys have lost four straight.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
Games, What does that say about what you guys need
to do as coaching staff to get more out of
whatever any can do to help you guys.
Speaker 6 (02:23):
Yeah, just get back to the basics, you know, and
you'd be the first to tell you there's place he'd
love to have back from yesterday, and offensively, the guys
would tell you same thing. You know, it's not all
on the quarterback. It's everybody playing being where they're supposed
to be lining up properly, and that's the focus right
now there.
Speaker 5 (02:37):
So there's Dave can Alis trying to kind of steer
away from potentially the conversation when it comes to Bryce Young.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
Please clearly know that it's not Bryce Young now though, Okay,
get him out of there, Like I don't want anybody
to be traded more in the NFL than Bryce Young.
Speaker 4 (02:55):
Just get him out of there, like, figure out some
way to make it happen. Move on.
Speaker 5 (03:00):
If they're not going to use him, and you're gonna
pick high in the draft yet again because you're terrible,
like just like cut Ties now, like send him to
the Rams.
Speaker 4 (03:10):
Let McVeigh get a hold of him.
Speaker 5 (03:11):
Maybe he sees something in him and he can be
the air apparent to Matt Stafford if he decides to
walk away or Matthew, whatever the hell he wants to
be called, and just figure out a plan to try
and separate cut Ties. It didn't work, you're on coach
number two, and just let that guy have some shot
at having a career in the NFL because it's not
going to be in Carolina.
Speaker 7 (03:31):
Yeah, it wouldn't even carry significant cap ramifications. I mean
it's it's not as if he's not as rookie deal.
So you know, you would have two years left if
you traded him this season on his rookie deal and
a fifth year option, So it would set up really
well for the team trading for him. The hard part
(03:52):
is the film hasn't looked great. He hasn't looked great,
and so that's where the rubber meets the road, and
you have a hard time figuring out the compensation for
that trade, meaning you know, what's for example, in this hypothetical,
what are the la Rams gonna give up in order
to get him, Because the Panthers gave up a lot
(04:12):
and they're not gonna get anywhere close to that back.
So that's the first thing is if it was Tepper's
decision or whoever's decision, it was they're going to try
to hold onto this thing to try to recoup some
of what they lost in the trade to get up
to number one to take Bryce Young. That will most
likely not come anywhere close to what they've given up.
That's the first issue. The next issue is, you know,
(04:35):
because the film hasn't looked great, it's going to drive
down that price as well. So Carolina ultimately needs to
decide are we done with this player? It would speak
volumes about David Tepper and this organization. If after one
year and what two games, three games, whatever it's been
(04:56):
that they even got to start, yeah, to say we're
throwing in the tale on Bryce Young, that would speak
volumes about this organization and how fast they can move
on from a player, let alone a quarterback who they
took number one overall and and obviously fired their coach
and hired a new coach and all that. But we're
(05:16):
able to move on that quick. So I'm with you.
I hope he gets somewhere else. I'm not sure a
trade's gonna happen. It just it seems rather unlikely. I
would imagine they get through the season with him. But again,
I hope that's not the case, It just it feels
like David Tepper is one of those stubborn guys that's
not going to allow them to try to not recoup
(05:37):
some of what they got, you know what they need
to get back in order to move on from the
Bryce Young situation.
Speaker 1 (05:45):
I believe Bryce Young will play again this season and
and at some point in time again, I think the
judgment on him has now got to be different, Like
he hasn't played well when he's been in there, He's
looked stream when he's been in there. But now after
the magic war out with with seeing Andy Dolton go
(06:08):
in there and realizing that it's back to the normal
reality of what this team represents and how there there's
a lack of production a great the great margin of
a lack of production that exists there. I do believe
Bryce Young will get back into the I almost feel
(06:30):
as though Canal is. I almost feel like he has
to at some point if it continues like what they lost,
what forty to seven to Washington.
Speaker 3 (06:40):
What was the score for forty It.
Speaker 7 (06:42):
Was a whooping.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
If the production isn't going to be any better than that,
you don't keep a first round draft pick on the
sideline for a journeyman backup now, a journey who once
was a good starter in this league. You don't keep
him on a bench for the rest of this season
if you're going to lose, and you're going to continue
(07:04):
to lose the way they're losing, unless you did have
that value that Q is talking about. If that value
is not there, there's no reason for you to hold
him out because you're not going to have any trade value.
So at the end of the day, you're going to
play him again. He's going to if they continue to
play as poorly as they played this past Sunday, Bryce
(07:25):
Young is going to play again. The question now becomes
can Bryce Young add any type of real value to himself,
not only for what would be considered to be a
draft opportunity, but really in essence, can he salvage what
he has where he's at. And I know it might
sound crazy, but if he gets another opportunity to play,
(07:49):
he's got to go in there with the mindset and
the idea that, look, this team has not been a
team that's performing at a high level. I'm a high
draft pick for this team. I don't know what the
future holds for me. If if I don't make the
most of this opportunity. So whatever it is that is
that he needs to do to get the most out
(08:09):
of that moment, he needs to just try to do it.
Go out, go out with a blaze of glory. But
I do think he's going to get another opportunity because
this team stinks.
Speaker 7 (08:17):
They're so bad.
Speaker 4 (08:19):
They stink they're so bad. Uh at the right now
the draft order.
Speaker 5 (08:23):
I know it's early in the season, but if you're
just looking at teams that are in the vicinity of
picking near the top of the draft, New England would
pick first. It does feel like Drake May has shown
him something. So maybe if this were to stand pat
they wouldn't be looking at quarterback in the draft. And
then you've got Carolina, Cleveland, and Tennessee. Those are all
the one win teams in the NFL. Tennessee could make
(08:45):
some sense. Cleveland feels like probably going to take a quarterback,
but you know Caroline is going to be in the
mix there near the top, and so you know we
get to see who the qbs are that'll be available
at that time.
Speaker 7 (08:55):
Did you see that stat on Drake May, by the way,
that only him and Dan Murriyo are the only two
quarterbacks in NFL history to throw for over five hundred
combined yards and five touchdowns in their first two starts.
Speaker 4 (09:09):
Really yeah, kind of crazy good for Drake and A.
Speaker 7 (09:13):
I know, I was sitting there think I was like,
oh that's cool.
Speaker 3 (09:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (09:16):
Maybe like the first three quarterbacks on the draft are
all kind of dealing from the NFL this past draft,
so yeah.
Speaker 7 (09:24):
Kind of. I mean it's one of those things that
gets lost in their season because it's gonna get lost
in the wins and lost record, Like we're gonna look
at the Patriots like, oh, they stink, and you know
Drake May is not the guy. It's like, well, he's
actually playing all right and giving them a shot. It's
just in a losing effort.
Speaker 4 (09:39):
So it is two pros and a cup of Joe.
Speaker 5 (09:41):
Here on Fox Sports Radio, LeVar Arrington, Brady Quinn, Jonas
Knox with you here. By the way, did you guys
know that the NBA is back later on tonight?
Speaker 4 (09:50):
It is the season.
Speaker 5 (09:50):
Debut in the NBA coming up later on tonight.
Speaker 4 (09:54):
Oh yeah, it's happening.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
It is happening.
Speaker 7 (09:56):
I was not aware of that.
Speaker 4 (09:57):
Yeah, it's uh.
Speaker 5 (09:58):
Nick's Celtics, we'll get things started, and then you've got
the Timberwolves and the Lakers who will finish things off.
On the first night, the opening night in the NBA,
you will see be raising the banner in Boston and
the Los Angeles Lakers and the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Speaker 4 (10:17):
Jordan, I don't know, I don't know. I don't know
that's gonna happen.
Speaker 5 (10:21):
But one of the things that that we are going
to do is we're going to take a look and
we're going to try and make a prediction. All right,
try and look ahead to the to the NBA and
there kickoff or excuse me, tip off later on tonight,
and we're going to try and figure out it's hard, yeah,
and so we're going to try and figure out what
we can expect from Lebron James. With our friends at DraftKings,
(10:44):
we're going to help us through all this stuff. So
there's a thing called the p r A that's points,
rebounds and assists. So right now, if you go to DraftKings,
Lebron James, points, rebounds and assist, I'm gonna give you
guys some options.
Speaker 4 (10:58):
You tell me what you like. Here.
Speaker 5 (10:59):
This is how twenty points how many rebounds and how
many assists combined Bron he will have coming up later
on tonight. So will it be thirty plus? Will it
be forty plus? Will it be fifty plus? What are
you guys thinking here when it comes to Lebron forty
plus forty? You don't you don't think take.
Speaker 3 (11:18):
That under okay, takes all right.
Speaker 7 (11:21):
You don't think he'll have combined points, rebounds assist over forty.
Speaker 4 (11:25):
No, I mean year twenty two for Bron, you know.
Speaker 1 (11:28):
Yeah, you gotta get he's got to get uh, you know,
he's he's got to get his seasoned legs on.
Speaker 7 (11:35):
You know, fresh though, right, I mean yeah, opening season
over fresh as I missed. Yeah, Well, we had odds
on this, like what would it be? What's the different
straat thirty plus verst forty?
Speaker 5 (11:44):
So if you wanted to go, we'll even make it
a little bit a little bit easier for var here LeVar.
Speaker 4 (11:49):
Thirty five plus is a minus two.
Speaker 3 (11:51):
Eighty thirty five plus.
Speaker 5 (11:55):
So you got to leave forty plus all right, So
forty plus is a minus one ten, so better value
on the forty.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
Plus, yeah, because it's less likely to happen.
Speaker 5 (12:03):
Yeah, So Lebron James entering year twenty two in the
NBA later on tonight, and right now, if you go
to DraftKings, points rebounds and assists with forty, well.
Speaker 3 (12:13):
Are you not picking I'll go with forty.
Speaker 4 (12:17):
Well, yeah, we'll do it.
Speaker 5 (12:18):
What's what's your intuition telling you? I would say forty
seems about right.
Speaker 7 (12:23):
Uh, LeVar, maybe we should go through your said like
thirty thirty five.
Speaker 3 (12:26):
There you go.
Speaker 4 (12:26):
Now that's just insisting.
Speaker 3 (12:27):
Here you go.
Speaker 5 (12:28):
That's but listen, if you want to ride with me
here on opening night in the NBA on DraftKings, you
can fill more.
Speaker 7 (12:34):
LeVar in this case, I feel like he's got a
little better feel for these things.
Speaker 5 (12:37):
Now, I'll say this, if you want to go, if
you want to go fifty plus, that pays out five
to one, so we can go plus five hundred there.
Speaker 7 (12:45):
But LaVar's made me rethink all this after you give
me your advice.
Speaker 5 (12:49):
All right, well, I'm gonna go with forty plus. You
guys can sit around and go thirty five plus. But
if you agree or disagree, you two can go to DraftKings.
Speaker 4 (12:59):
Get on there. Check it out opening night in the
NBA later on tonight, and it.
Speaker 5 (13:03):
Closes up with Timberwolves Lakers Lebron James, points, rebounds and assists,
and they've got other options there for you on DraftKings,
so check it out for yourself. Later on tonight, it
is Two Pros and a Cup of Joe here on
Fox Sports Radio. Coming up next, it is a Tuesday tradition.
Pete Prisco stops by right here on FSR.
Speaker 2 (13:21):
Be sure to catch live editions of Two Pros and
a Cup of Joe with Brady Quinn, LeVar Errington, and
Jonas Knox weekdays at six am Eastern, three am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 5 (13:35):
Two Pros and a Cup of Joe Here on Fox
Sports Radio. Coming up in about twenty minutes from now,
you're going to hear a coach basically say, yeah, my
player was right. He made a comment did not sit
well with some people, but apparently he was right, and
that coach will respond to those questions coming up here
in about twenty minutes from now here on FSR. But
right now we mentioned the smooth operator.
Speaker 4 (13:56):
He is the one. He is the only.
Speaker 5 (13:58):
Pete Prisco senior NFL columnists for CBS Sports, CBS Sports HQ,
analyst and you can get him on x at Prisco,
CBS exact opposite.
Speaker 7 (14:12):
It's the smooth, the exact opposite of this.
Speaker 4 (14:15):
How we feeling there on a Tuesday, bright forth.
Speaker 7 (14:19):
Good.
Speaker 5 (14:20):
We appreciate the early arrival. We were just wondering, uh,
whether or not you believe the Baltimore Ravens after what
you've seen last night, will arrive in a super Bowl
at any point in the near future, because it looks
good in the regular season, but can't seem to figure
out why they can't get over the hump when it
comes to the playoffs.
Speaker 8 (14:39):
Yeah, I mean, look, we got it. We like watching
them play during regular season and Lamar Jackson is on
his way to another MVP, but none of that really
matters unless they go and win in the postseason, like
you said, and for whatever reason, some of it has
been him, some of it has been other reasons. They
have not been a team that can get over the
hump in the postseason. So it's always going to be
(15:00):
They're one of those teams right now, and no matter
what they do in the regular season, it could be fun,
it's going to be exciting, five touchdown passes, none of
it will matter until they get to the postseason, and
they are going to get to the postseason, make no
mistake about it. But they have to find a way
to get to the Super Bowl and even win it.
Speaker 7 (15:17):
Pete, what do you make of the Kansas City Chiefs
this year? I mean they're undefeated. Mahomes statistically doesn't look
like it's that great. Like if I told you led
the league in interceptions after the first six games, you'd
probably say they're struggling. But yet they're the number one
team in the AFC.
Speaker 8 (15:33):
Well, the defense has been dominant and that you know,
Steve Spagnola does a great job with that group. I
mean on the surface, yeah, Chris Jones is a star,
there's you know, McDuffie's a really good player. But on
the surface, it's not loaded with top level talent, and
yet he finds a way to make them be so
successful on that side of the ball. As far as
the offense, I still think he needs to get the
(15:54):
ball to worthy more and I think that's coming. I
think they'll get those shots. You miss one the other
day down the field would have been a big player.
But they'll come. You know, look, they're not with that
defense right now, they're not asking Mahomes to go whip
it around and throw it around, and he's not. And
eventually he's going to do that. But here's the thing, Grady,
and you know this. When he has to go get points,
(16:15):
like in that game the other day, when he had
to go make a drive, he made it. And that's
the difference between him and just an ordinary guy. He
can go get the point. Now how he does it,
he has to manufacture it a little more differently than
he did in the past, but he can still go
get those points. So I'm not worried about them. Offensively,
with Andy Reid and that group calling the plays, they're
gonna be fine. That defense is special.
Speaker 1 (16:37):
What was your takeaway from the Russell Wilson debut against
the Jests. Was it more about Russ and Pittsburgh or
was it more about the New York Jets and how
they performed Labar I think.
Speaker 8 (16:51):
It's a little bit of both. I mean, look, Russell
Wilson was terrible for a quarter and a half. He
hit a couple of covered moon balls and everybody started
to rally around him a little bit.
Speaker 7 (17:01):
It was not here we go okay?
Speaker 4 (17:03):
What was okay?
Speaker 8 (17:03):
It wasn't great. I mean it was okay, it was.
Speaker 7 (17:06):
And you know, you're you're like knocking his moon ball
when he's he put it in a spot to give
his receiver a shot, Like give him credit.
Speaker 4 (17:12):
Dude, Come on, dude, the one on one.
Speaker 8 (17:16):
If I'm throwing the George Pickens, I'm gonna throw it
up and he'll probably go get it for me too.
I mean, let's be real.
Speaker 7 (17:21):
I mean, you can't throw the football past fifteen yards.
Speaker 8 (17:24):
Hey, Justin Field. Justin Field's could have thrown it up
to him and he would He went and got a town.
Speaker 7 (17:28):
Justin Fields has been starting for six games that he
wasn't so well.
Speaker 8 (17:33):
Look, we always know Russell Wilson's great at throwing balls
up and fifty to fifty passes to go get him.
So he's been always doing that.
Speaker 7 (17:39):
That's good.
Speaker 8 (17:41):
Look, and you're at home against the depleted defense the
Jets were, you know, just decimated by injuries on the
back end. He's wants to win the game. Now, Let's
see him when he goes out on the road and
he plays a tough team on the road. Let's see.
Let's see what Russell wills.
Speaker 3 (17:54):
So this was more about Russ and the Steelers.
Speaker 7 (17:56):
He's got his. If I asked him, Hey Pete, howd
kirk Cousins play this week? Tell me that one he
was terrible?
Speaker 8 (18:03):
He was, he was awful.
Speaker 7 (18:05):
He was he was awful.
Speaker 4 (18:07):
He took a beating.
Speaker 8 (18:09):
Somebody must have told him.
Speaker 7 (18:10):
Somebody must have told him it was it was primetime.
Speaker 3 (18:15):
Why he's been proving that wrong this year?
Speaker 4 (18:16):
Hey Pete, But forgive me if this isn't you.
Speaker 5 (18:19):
But I remember, I think it was Brady who said
this that when you guys would work together, every time
he defended a quarterback, was there a siren that you
Oh yeah, yeah.
Speaker 8 (18:32):
We had the we had the quarterback defender siren, and.
Speaker 3 (18:38):
So neither we had you.
Speaker 7 (18:43):
Around.
Speaker 8 (18:45):
Needless to say, it went off a lot on our segments.
Believe me, because.
Speaker 7 (18:51):
I heard it's still going on right now.
Speaker 8 (18:53):
It's amazing how many quarterbacks he defends on well, you know,
and then he'll eventually morph into well, you know, you
weren't in the game room, in the beating room making
that play. I mean, it's the whole thing. But but yeah,
the alarm was great. We missed the alarm, I mean,
because you told me.
Speaker 7 (19:10):
You still use it. You told me you still use it.
Speaker 8 (19:12):
I'll pop it up once in a while. We'll reference
you with the alarm. And because we now we got
guys like Kyle Long defends every offensive lineman, and the
other guys b MAC and those crews, they all defend
every defensive back, you know, not all just strict players.
Sometimes they stink. Can you guys ever call them out?
Speaker 9 (19:29):
Uh?
Speaker 5 (19:30):
Pete Prisco joining us here on Fox Sports Radio. Get
him on ex at Prisco CBS to play Pete. Hey, Pete,
I know we've talked. We talked about this at the
time when Tua suffered the latest concussion, and I think
we were all in agreement, like, hey, listen, you know,
if the guy wants to continue playing, like it's his choice,
where do you stand on the guardian cap issue? He
(19:51):
said he doesn't want to wear it. It's a personal choice.
Do you fall in line with that as well, too,
or do you think somebody should step in and say, listen,
for your own health, for your own safety, and just
the optics of it, at least put this on and
let's play the game a little bit.
Speaker 8 (20:08):
Well, the optics of wearing it isn't very good. That's
so I don't think the optics are at all. Look,
is there really scientific proof that they work? You know,
is it really something that's going to prevent him from
If it's if you and I don't think they've actually
done the full data on it yet, but if it's
one hundred percent, then you're not going to get a concussion.
(20:29):
If you get hit up there, then you better wear it.
But I don't think that's out there yet. So I
think from that standpoint, I understand why he might be
reluctant to wear it. But as far as his they're
his choices. He's a grown human being, I mean makes
he's a grown man. He can make his own choices.
If he win, everybody's sitting there, well, you're going to retire. No,
I'm not going to retire. He wants to play football,
(20:49):
and that's that's his decision, and that's his right to
make that decision. So we're all going to sit here
and judge them, and everybody's going to make the have
their own opinion on it, but it's his, it's his life,
it's his body. It's his decision to make and he
made it, and whether he wears that cap or not,
that's also his decision to make. So I have no
problem with anything he does. And if he wants to
(21:10):
go back and play football, that's fine, that's his progative.
Speaker 7 (21:14):
Pete, I'm more curious as you look at the Browns
situation at quarterback, what do you think is going to happen,
not so much the rest of this season, but really
headed into the future. Do you think this is the
last wee we've seen of Deshaun Watson playing football for
the Browns?
Speaker 8 (21:27):
By the way, real quick, would you two have worn
the Guardian cap if you had to?
Speaker 7 (21:32):
To your point, I think if it gave definitive protection
against concussions. I mean I suffered two in one season,
I would I would have worn it probably had it
had it been one hundred percent, But if not, I
don't know. Maybe it would be tough to wear owen
because you don't really know if it's doing anything.
Speaker 1 (21:49):
I'd say under under his circumstances, I would use it,
just like i'd use an ankle brace or a wrist
brace or neck roll. Right, so, I had no problems.
I hurt my neck, I wore cowboy collar. A lot
of people thought I wore it for optics. I wore
it for use effectiveness. Right, I wore wristband. I wore
(22:11):
risk rockets for support because I was jamming my wrists up,
So I would not take a fence to it, Pete,
you know what I mean, Like I look at it
like it's no different than any other medical accessory that
I would use. You know, do those things medically make
sure that I'm not going to break my wrist, or
I'm not going to hurt my elbow anymore, my ankle
(22:33):
isn't going to get sprained anymore. Who knows, right, But
do I feel like it made me feel better or
I was taking a proper precaution to what it is?
Speaker 3 (22:42):
Sure, so I would.
Speaker 1 (22:44):
Have no problem wearing it, And I make sure I
swag it out as much as I could.
Speaker 3 (22:47):
I do something I don't know.
Speaker 1 (22:49):
I don't think you could do anything to make it
any better, But I'm just saying yes, the answer would
be yes if I knew I needed to wear it
because it was helping me with something that I was
dealing with with. I wore a toilet seat pads underneath
my pads, my other pads, you know, whatever it was
that I could wear that would lessen any type of injuries.
From from contact because I was going to make contact.
(23:12):
One hundred percent knew I was going to make contact.
So I'm going to put those If there's something preventative
that I can put on that's going to help, yes,
I would award.
Speaker 8 (23:21):
Yeah, And you know, so I'm surprised that Brady hasn't
made the joke that I should be walking around with
a guardian caps and some hold on might trip and tall.
Speaker 7 (23:30):
You decided to come on early with us today, so
I was actually trying to hold off on any of
those jokes.
Speaker 8 (23:34):
Okay, all right, I was waiting for that.
Speaker 7 (23:35):
Part, and you never answered my question. Yeah.
Speaker 8 (23:38):
Back to the Browns. Look, the Browns quarterback situation is
a disaster. Why they gave that guy all that money
is a whole nother story, but why they restructured it
and did it that way that they're almost bound by it.
He's going to have to sit there if they don't
want to playhim. He's got to sit there for two years.
And so what do you do other than him retiring.
He in retiring to leave that money on the table.
What do you do because you can't play him again?
(24:00):
And he's awful. He looked just interested and he looked
like he didn't care. He's just whatever happened to his game,
and it wasn't never great to begin with. It was good,
but it was never great to begin with. It's so
bad right now that you can't play in the quarterback.
So I don't know what they do, Brady. You know
that situation up there, That owner had a lot to
do with that. And I don't think Kevin Stefanski wanted
(24:21):
to play him throughout this you know, games five, five,
and six. I don't think he wanted to play him.
I think he was forced to play him. And when
you're forced to play a quarterback, it's never a good situation.
So I hope Jameis Winston plays. I think he should play,
and I think that you'll see some that move the
ball a little bit better than they've been moving in
with Deshaun Watson. I'm not saying Winston's the end all
(24:43):
be all of them right now, but he's better than
what they had.
Speaker 3 (24:46):
Wow, Well, what for you have?
Speaker 1 (24:50):
You had your drothers and could talk about a storyline
that's taking place in the league right now. What what
are you like, What's what's peaking your interest, What's what's
on your mind, Well, like, what are you thinking about?
Speaker 8 (25:03):
It's become a survival test. I mean, the team that
limph home at the end, there's going to be the
one the healthiest of all is going to be the
one that wins it. It's gotten so bad with all
these injuries.
Speaker 7 (25:13):
It really has.
Speaker 8 (25:14):
And I'm not just talking about like Chris Godwin's broken
bone last you know that the fracture, dislocated ankle. I'm
not always talking about that the whole league. You look
at the forty nine ers, what what is that team?
That team is a shell of itself. And I go
back to my theory on it that I think guys
are overtraining h in the offseason. I think that's become
a major problem. That's why you're getting all these like
(25:35):
like Mike Evans with his with his hamstring pull and
all these soft tissue injuries. It's a really become a
survival test. The one who can get their healthiest is
going to be the team that wins it. Even provided
you have talent, I mean, Carolina can get there as
healthy as could be, then you're gonna win it. But
I'm saying if you have talent, you can you got
to you gotta you gotta get there and hope that
you're healthy because you know, even when you guys played,
(25:58):
I mean, go back to when you played, it wasn't
as much as a survival test for this reason. I
have no idea why, but it wasn't. And now we're
seeing so many guys on the sidelines that's become that way.
Speaker 3 (26:09):
Maybe because they're softer, they've made Yeah, wow, hit.
Speaker 7 (26:15):
Pee your oldest time. So you tell us you've seen
generations come through, I mean, is it?
Speaker 2 (26:22):
Is it?
Speaker 7 (26:22):
Part of that? Is it? Like, hey, maybe the lack
of too A days, the lack of like a mental
toughness being built up in these players heads.
Speaker 3 (26:29):
Maybe that plays a little bit too it and expectation.
Speaker 8 (26:32):
Yeah, yeah, you know, you're both you're both pretty spot
on on that. But here's the other part of it.
When you don't hit, you don't play football in the offseason,
you go to a game and you don't. When they
start taking the field the regular season, they barely haven't
hit anybody. Yeah, and that's the problem too. You know,
you guys played in an era where there were two
A days, and you hit, I mean you you guys
(26:52):
had contact. That's why the offensive line play is awful.
I think that could be contributed to some of it
as well. But you got to hit. It's football, it's
not you know, it's not too touch. So I think
that that's also it's the overall training. In the offseason,
you're trained to get in shape. You don't train to
get in football shape. And when you get the camp
you're not in football shape. You're in shape, but then
you get you don't hit enough, so when you get
(27:13):
to the regular season you're not in football shape either.
So I think it's a combination of all that and
that's why you're seeing all these injuries.
Speaker 7 (27:20):
Pete. Last thing I'll ask you is you once said
Joe Burrow to touch two super Bowls in ten years.
We're now about halfway there. The Bengals have gotten hot
the last couple of weeks. Is this maybe the year
you're going to go out on a limb and say
it's the Bengals year Burrow's gonna do it, They're gonna
win a Super Bowl.
Speaker 8 (27:38):
Well, Brady, first off, you keep putting that second super.
Speaker 7 (27:41):
Bowl on as you said multiple and technologically, Pete, that
it could.
Speaker 8 (27:45):
Be they will win one maybe two, is what I said.
We've got that maybe, and guys, you.
Speaker 7 (27:52):
Know Jack Capatoro has the evidence of this. Pete.
Speaker 8 (27:55):
Okay, well, the bottom line is they're in trouble to
get too. I can tell you that.
Speaker 7 (28:03):
Well, how about one, Pete, how about one? Can you
pick them this year? They got on a hot start
to win this year.
Speaker 8 (28:09):
You know what, They're not done yet. You know that
I know they're starting great.
Speaker 7 (28:12):
Let me ask you this, Todd, Pete, answer the question,
can you pick them now or not?
Speaker 8 (28:18):
This year? No? I'm not picking them. I didn't pick
them the more the season. I'm not picking them now.
Speaker 3 (28:22):
Pete.
Speaker 5 (28:23):
I am curious, though, something near and dear to your heart,
your Arizona State Sun devils your thoughts on the fact
that Kenny Dillingham is looking for kicker tryouts to be
taking place this week. That he said, you know anybody
that can kick a football, go ahead and email us
and we'll bring in for a tryout. You have any uh,
you have anybody there in temp that you know of
(28:44):
that that's walking around on campus with like a flask
in their back pocket but a rocket on their on
their on their foot and they're able to make some
kicks for your Sun. Devil's there and try and win
more win more games there this season.
Speaker 8 (28:55):
No, I no, I don't, But I'll tell you what.
If there's anybody that can play eight saying that can
help that football team, they should get over there and
try and play. He's done a really nice job with
them because they're talent deficient compared to other teams, and
so I give him a lot of credit for that.
But as far as you know, look, they could have
won that game last week at Cincinnati. There was no
doubt about it with a backup quarter but with a
backup quarterback because Levitt didn't play. He's doing things the
(29:18):
right way, and everybody he kind of backed off his
request to get a kicker. Don't back off your kicker's stunk.
I mean, come on that. Don't you call down your kicker.
Don't ever, but don't ever back away from something you
did on a Saturday because you get heat board on
a Monday. So uh, hopefully he can find a kicker
there because they can't make kicks.
Speaker 7 (29:38):
Arizona State reached down there hoping you can contribute to
their nil fund. Any thoughts on that, A clap.
Speaker 8 (29:44):
For whoever does and hope they do a good job
with it.
Speaker 3 (29:46):
That's what I said.
Speaker 8 (29:50):
It's not that it's not that important to me.
Speaker 7 (29:53):
You're still a chief skate is all you're saying. What's
that you're still a chief skate.
Speaker 8 (29:58):
I just didn't know. I'm just I gave. I gave
when I went there. That's when I gave to the school.
When I went there. I had to go there. So
I went there, went there. What the Arizona State? I
paid them And that's it. So as far as donating
to the school, no, not.
Speaker 3 (30:10):
Me, well done, No.
Speaker 5 (30:12):
Get him on X at Prisco, CBS Senior NFL columnist,
CBS Sports analyst for CBS Sports HQ. Pete, appreciate it.
You are a smooth operator. Thanks for getting up extra
early with us.
Speaker 3 (30:25):
Here this morning.
Speaker 8 (30:26):
All right, guys, take care Pete.
Speaker 4 (30:27):
There he is.
Speaker 7 (30:28):
Here's the things you guys don't know. Pete gets up early.
He's already been up. He could he could do it
earlier times.
Speaker 3 (30:34):
All what people do, bro, Yeah, when you're old, you
get up before.
Speaker 4 (30:38):
Why is he gonna wait till I war three? Every Tuesday?
Speaker 7 (30:40):
Because he goes on a bike ride. He does, he
does a little exercise thing he does. He's got a
whole morning routine. Well, I mean he doesn't sleep much.
Like if I text him the middle of night, he'll
sometimes like, be up, you see that Pete At like
a one am or one thirty am East Eastern time,
for like a West Coast college game. He'll text right
back like that was unbelievable.
Speaker 5 (31:00):
And what I like about him is he'll be answering
a question about something and somebody not even involved will
catch astray, like the Panthers didn't do anything to Pete
and for some reason he had to throw them into
the mix.
Speaker 7 (31:10):
He basically brings a Tommy gun and just literally just
has no accuracy.
Speaker 5 (31:15):
It's all about volume and that anyone can get it.
Like there's gonna be some menocent victims here, but is
what it is.
Speaker 7 (31:20):
I don't know. He does have a playbook though, as
you guys have kind of figured out by this point.
So no matter how good Russell Wilson plays for the Steelers,
he will never give him credit this season, Kirk Cousins,
if he's in prime time, he will not give him credit.
He will support Will Levis till the day he dies.
He will claim that he didn't make the You know,
I guess I don't know if it was a bet
(31:41):
or however i'd describe it, but he did claim Joe
Burrow would win two Super Bowls in the next ten years.
Actually he did say multiples, So who knows.
Speaker 1 (31:50):
I mean when he said it, it was probably looking good will.
Speaker 7 (31:54):
He was a number one overall pick. I mean, yeah
at that point. But the problem is is when you
then when you were like, all right, Pete, like it's
been five years, are you ever going to pick the
Bengals to win it?
Speaker 5 (32:03):
Then?
Speaker 7 (32:04):
And he's like, well no, And it's like, well, you
can't like make that claim and then never pick them
to win it, because then it makes you look like
you actually didn't believe what you said in the first place.
Speaker 4 (32:12):
Well, you know, who knows.
Speaker 5 (32:13):
If we can continue on with this with Pete, maybe
at some point next year the year after, he'll pick it.
But he's running out of time. We are running out
of time on that pick and that projection for Pete Prisco.

So our old friend dump truck Nuts. Brian day Ball,
he's got a little bit of a problem. Their team
(33:30):
is not good. Daniel Jones was benched.
Speaker 3 (33:33):
He's not good.
Speaker 5 (33:34):
Drew Locke was brought in on Sunday. He's not good,
but apparently they're gonna stick with Daniel Jones.
Speaker 4 (33:40):
He's gonna be the guy moving forward.
Speaker 1 (33:44):
And Malik Neighbors wem Barkley got more yards than all
of them, right, Malee was really good.
Speaker 5 (33:50):
Malik Neighbors was kind of pointing out the fact that
he was open. Did not do anything on Sunday, but
did point out today I was opened. That's so good
and so the so the media asked Brian Dave all
about the comments from Elak Neighbors and it went a
little bit like this.
Speaker 10 (34:10):
On the Malik question that ed asked. I think the
question would be more not that are you happy? He's frustrated,
but it seemed like he was intimating basically it wasn't me.
Do you have a problem with that kind of attitude,
like you know when when the team loses a player,
kind of saying, well, I did my job, I don't.
Speaker 7 (34:28):
About everybody else. Did he say it like that?
Speaker 9 (34:31):
He said I was open, he was he was opening
a lot.
Speaker 8 (34:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (34:35):
He was asked about He was asked about the lack
of balance impacting the passing game, and he said that
that that's not his job.
Speaker 4 (34:43):
His jobs to get open and he was open.
Speaker 9 (34:45):
Yeah, I don't want to imply what he was or
what he wasn't saying. Again, I have a good conversation
with with all our guys. We'll have one right here
in a minute. I respect Malik, I respect all our guys. Again,
I don't want to of imply on as to what
he said or what he didn't say.
Speaker 3 (35:02):
If he said he was open, he was open quite
a bit.
Speaker 5 (35:06):
So it's going real smooth for the giants there in
New York with the media.
Speaker 3 (35:12):
In self preservation mode.
Speaker 1 (35:13):
Now, it joints sound like it's slipping, like the buttons
getting hits.
Speaker 7 (35:20):
It's tough when you're losing and you get asked pointed
questions and guys demonstrate the frustration to the media. It's
tough to be able to handle it all because the
one issue is the fact that you're not winning football games. Now.
Is some of it due to the quarterback play? Sure?
But is some of it due to some of where
this rosters deficient. Yeah, that's that's partially the case. I mean,
(35:42):
probably would have loved to have Saquon Barkley in the backfield.
You decided not to go that direction. You know, you
draft the league, neighbors, he's going to be a great
number one. He's you know, trying to become that now
as a rookie. That's a tall task for him. Defensively speaking,
they haven't really been as you know, as good as
they were maybe a year ago, so that that hurts
(36:02):
them in that respect. It's just things kind of tend
to mount up like this, and you've got to figure
out a way of being able to handle the adversity,
everything else that comes along with it, and more than
anything else, the emotions of the players on your team.
And so this is the beginning of like can you
keep it all together? Can you hold it all together?
Or does this does this cart start to run away
(36:24):
and where it becomes a disaster? It looks like a disaster,
And that's usually when ownership says, Okay, we need to
make a chance because we lost the team. You hear
your comments like that. That's what they're trying to hold
onto right now.
Speaker 1 (36:36):
Heart knocks is the worst thing that could have ever
happened to them this offseason. Yeah, I think you your
your sentiments are correct. I think heart knocks made it
hard for the fans to get behind that and support
it just the way they handle things, the way things
ended with say Kwon just hard.
Speaker 5 (36:52):
And also, you know when your head coach is saying, oh, yeah,
I would have moved, I'd move up to take Jaden Daniels',
Well that's not happening and Daniel Jones is still there,
feels like that's fris.
Speaker 3 (37:01):
You paid them, yeah, and there you go.
Speaker 4 (37:04):
See you
