Speaker 1 (00:02):
It's the best of two pros and l Winn and
Jonas knots on. He's cooking, bar Russ is cooking.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
The d ball is back in Pittsburgh. That's how y'all feel.
It looks good man. Hell yeah, that's how y'all feel.
He was dropping dimes last night.
Speaker 3 (00:29):
What do you mean?
Speaker 2 (00:30):
I'm with you, Eddie. I'm not down on it. I
just ain't crazy high on it. Yeah, his moments, he
had some good moments. Not gonna be overly critical.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
I mean, it's the best the offense has looked in
quite some time.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
It's definitely a different offense with him in there. I
said that the first game he played. You said that.
I did say that it's a different offense than it operates.
It's more open, it's more it's it's more prolific with
him in there. One. I did say that. Give Najy
hair Naugy dab important, not Dave important. I always go back.
(01:12):
I used to have nightmares about him.
Speaker 4 (01:13):
Bro.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
I can't get his name out of my head. Number
forty one. Bro, that's a big mother lover man. Uh yeah,
Najy Harris and and what's my what's my other guy's name?
The other running back. I think it's a very nice
They're very They're complementary one another. It does does very
(01:37):
well to help that offense out. It helps that O
line out. I think Russ. I think Russ is at
times finding comfort and finding his rhythm. I think at
other times, you know, they gotta finish. They got to
figure out how to finish drives. That's probably the biggest
thing I took away from from them on offense. They
(02:00):
got to finish, figure out how to finish drives. But
I mean it overall, all in all, they're better. It's
a better it's a better offense with Russell Wilson in there.
I mean, I don't think anybody will debate that. I mean,
they're six and two and uh yeah. But you know what,
they've been undefeated, and people like yourself, Jonas and and
(02:22):
people like say like Rob Parker and all that stuff.
You know, y'all call them fools goal teams and stuff
like that. They can go almost an entire season undefeated. Yah,
call them fools gold. So I mean them having two
losses doesn't really matter. I would assume that was one of.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
My favorite Rob Parker takes. The Steelers are in the
midst of a twelve and oh start in like twenty twenty,
and Rob goes they're the worst twelve and oh team
in the history of the NFL. Like, oh yeah, Rob,
who's second worst?
Speaker 2 (02:51):
That suck the point?
Speaker 3 (02:53):
What do you mean, dude, They've won twelve games.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
I listened to his show yesterday driving home from uh
South Bay, and they're pretty interesting characters. I mean it
literally is an interesting like all out like I don't
know what you call it. Is it a debate? Is
it back? I don't even really know what it is,
but it's interesting.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
Yeah, he loves uh, he's mister hot take. But the
Pittsburgh Steelers. Why is there a pizza being delivered to
the studio right now?
Speaker 2 (03:26):
Lee's hungry? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (03:28):
Is that is that new? Oh? Oh oh, that's fine.
I just feel like, is there a pipe bomb in there?
Speaker 4 (03:36):
There?
Speaker 2 (03:38):
There are control rooms, shenanigans that are growing by the
day in there, man, And that is the show. It
really is the show.
Speaker 5 (03:48):
Do we feel like Lee's going just off the radar?
He's just he's slowly falling apart.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
This has nothing to do with me. The question still stands.
Coop said that they brought do you know that was
my favorite dessert, glaze glaze covered uh pizza bytes to
the studio.
Speaker 3 (04:15):
All right, let's everybody stay focused here, all right, let's
get back on track, all right. The real story here
is the Dan Pittsburgh Steelers, all right, and they deserve respect.
And I'd also like to know why getting two right
feet inbounds doesn't count as two feet.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
In general, I don't get it. The George Pickens catch.
It should have been a touchdown because it was the
same foot.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
Who cares it's two feet like he tapped two feet down.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
It doesn't make sense. I thought you had to get
the other foot down like another body part down, like
your butt, your arm, your foot. I didn't think it
could be the same foot.
Speaker 5 (04:59):
It's a foot in something else. But he tapped it twice.
And honestly, it should be a rule that should be
looked at because in that instance, it's all he could do,
and yet he maintained possession of the football all the
way through hitting the ground. I think the NFL should
look at it. It's a very rare circumstance, but it was
(05:21):
an unbelievable play and one that probably warrants saying. All right,
and maybe this is deemed to catch based on how
he was able to control the ball all the way
into the ground. It seems rather unfair if he's not
able to I mean, it's hard to do, and yet
he was able to do it and it's still called
in a play.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
It's almost harder to do that than it is to
get the other foot down. Like he literally used the
same foot to get down twice. And it's like, if
that was a foot and a knee, that's a touchdown.
But it was the same foot that he tapped twice,
and they called it no touchdown.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
It's just bizarre. It's a weird rule. Oh well, you know,
I don't know. When I looked at it, I'm like,
all right, I looked for the other body part. That's
kind of how I did it. But I think them
legislating the physicality out of the game, the continued legislation
of that, now, that to me is what's most egregious.
(06:18):
I just think that at some point you're gonna get
to a place of where just just put a halo
around the quarterback, please, like stop, like do away with sacks,
do away with anything that has to do with the
(06:38):
physicality of the quarterback. Let the quarterback be the quarterback.
I don't know how you figure out when the play
is dead. I really don't. Maybe you put a flag
on them. And it's funny, you know. Greg Lloyd said
this like many many many years ago when he got
flagged for a hit on Dann Marino, which by the way,
(06:58):
was a big ass hit, but he said, just put
flags on him. I'm I'm getting to the point, not
even this right now. Smith said, there was there was
a call on there was a roughing the quarterback call
that it just made me look at all of the
roughing the quarterback calls that are being called. It's just
(07:22):
it's it's crazy, egregious the way that calls are being
made against hits on the quarterback. I think they should
put flags on the quarterback. I really do.
Speaker 5 (07:33):
So this is just from the entirety of the weekend
or last Yeah, yeah, there was there wasn't actual roughing
the passer last night where I was like, how do
I think it was high Smith that got it?
Speaker 2 (07:44):
How how does that like, how does it happen? It
just doesn't, it doesn't. I know. He tapped his toe twice.
I said, I've watched I watched the real time. I mean,
I didn't know if you follow the Steelers. That's all
why I saw it. I saw the game. I mean
he tapped his toe twice. I mean, I don't know,
but it wasn't It wasn't another body part.
Speaker 3 (08:05):
I think that that's the real issue in the NFL,
outside of roughing the passer.
Speaker 2 (08:10):
I just we were talking about rules and calls and
stuff like that just made me start thinking about rules
and calls as a defender, and that that was where
I settled in on. I just I think it's crazy
you can't if you go back to the catch.
Speaker 5 (08:23):
The weird thing is when you watch it, you kind
of go, yeah, that looks like a catch, Like they're
like there.
Speaker 2 (08:28):
Was no part.
Speaker 5 (08:28):
When I watched it, I thought, oh, he actually tapped
the same foot twice. It looked like he tapped two feet.
It just happened to be the same foot. That's the
one that kind of surprised.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
I just never thought. I never thought of it in
that regard, to be honest, Like he tapped the same
toe twice, Like I just thought that you had to
use a different body part. I never even looked at
it that way. Like when I saw it, I never
even looked at it like he made the catch because
he used the same foot twice. That'd be like if oh,
(08:58):
well he drug it. He drug it for who knows
how long? And well because he had control of the
ball and he drug his tow before he went out
of bounce that he drug it long enough. I don't know.
I just never looked. I always looked at it as
it had to be two different body parts. That's how
I always looked at it. I don't know that throw.
Speaker 3 (09:18):
Russ had on the sideline to George Pickens, the.
Speaker 2 (09:21):
One of the Pickens was a dime bunced the whole time.
Speaker 3 (09:26):
Like it really you know, like if you go back
to and we've talked about this before, but if you
go back to last year, it's really like Russ had
one down year, right, that's.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
Which mind you? Mind you, okay.
Speaker 5 (09:39):
Nathaniel Hackett coach team in Denver, and we saw what
happened to that team, that offense. Nathaniel Hackett. Oh see
with his boy Aaron Rodgers, how'd that work out?
Speaker 2 (09:51):
So far? This year?
Speaker 5 (09:53):
Not even calling plays anymore? That team stile a disaster.
Speaker 3 (09:57):
But like last year, Russ wasn't bad, not at all,
It was really that one year that everyone just assumes,
oh he's washed, Like is he the same like in
his at his peak in Seattle. No, but he's still
a good quarterback man and he's making throws last night.
They are much better with him at quarterback. And I
want to apologize to the Steelers because I thought at
(10:18):
this point in the season they would have been more
likely two and six than six and two.
Speaker 2 (10:22):
I got that way wrong.
Speaker 5 (10:24):
No, well so did Vegas. They were eleven and one,
and the odds were for them eleven to one. They
were gonna win the AFC North. They're right now in the.
Speaker 2 (10:33):
In the lead for the division. Jesus plus eleven hundred
before the season.
Speaker 5 (10:37):
You know, by the way, I think it was Cleveland,
either Cleveland or since nat it was like plus six,
you know, six hundred six to one.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
Yeah, that ain't gonna happen. I mean, Jamis might bring
him back, famous Jamis, I don't know, he's bald. It
is the Jameis that save Cleveland. WHOA Well, you know
another thing I took away from last evening, Daniel Jones
is not a bad football player. He actually he's actually
a pretty good ballplayer. He just makes mistakes like a
(11:10):
few mistakes here and there that are really those here,
and their mistakes are like costly mistakes like his the
late the late heroics turns into a to an interception
that kind of ice is the game. I mean, he
kept them in the game. You know, he made some
good ballplayer, Like the Giants don't look like a bad
ball team. They just can't win, which makes you a
(11:32):
bad ball team. But it just made me start thinking,
what year is this for day ball? Is this his
third year?
Speaker 4 (11:39):
See?
Speaker 2 (11:40):
I start thinking to myself, like the the new way
of thinking culturally, society wise is you have to be
good right now. Things have to be what you want
them to be right now. But there used to be
a time where you actually gave a coach the opportunity
(12:02):
to build their staff, to build their team, to build continuity,
to build culture, and it led to, you know, having
either a good team or it led to a team
that you felt like I gave you enough time and
we'll go in a different direction. But I almost feel
like we've gotten a way. We've gotten so into instant
(12:24):
gratification for how things are done, and coaches aren't really
I mean, are they really able to coach anymore, Like,
are you really able to legitimately have an opportunity to
try to build a winner? Yeah, That's why I started thinking,
because I don't feel like the Giants are actually that
far off from being a team that could actually win again.
(12:47):
But are you going to change coaches and change staffs
before you get to that point? Again? The pass rushers
legit defense isn't bad. Their offense isn't bad either. Actually well, and.
Speaker 5 (12:58):
Then they invested into it right that they drafted cave
On Thibadeau. They you know, they bring in peace certain people.
They had Lawrence up front too, so you kind of
knew that their pass qatch was decent last year. The
defense was it was pretty decent last year. They were
actually I think better at this point the season. What's
interesting about it is the first year it kind of
set them up to have this frustration with the lack
(13:24):
of progress with the team because when you go nine
to seven and one, when you'd make the playoffs, even
though they were third in the NFC East, they made
the playoffs, That then lends itself to Okay, that's what
we are, Like, that's the floor of where we're at.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
We're only get better from here.
Speaker 5 (13:40):
It's so difficult to make that like incremental improvement or
even just to stay as a winning team or a
playoff team. You know, last year they go six and eleven.
It feels like a disaster. Daniel Jones doesn't play as well,
this frustration from Dable, this frustration with the staff, you know,
Wink Martindale moves on.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
The defensive changes that are made as well. There's those issues.
Speaker 5 (14:04):
And so then they go another year into going into
this year with Daniel Jones, knowing that maybe they weren't
in love with them and that wasn't like my opinion
or our words, that was demonstrated on Hard Knocks.
Speaker 2 (14:16):
Yeah, you know.
Speaker 5 (14:18):
It's like that kind of came out. They wanted to
move up in the draft, couldn't do it, So they
stick with Daniel Jones. They go through the year like that,
and to your point, like he didn't play poor last night.
But it helps when you have Tyrone Trac who rips
off you one hundred and forty five yards and balls
out for them.
Speaker 2 (14:36):
They never really had.
Speaker 5 (14:36):
That consistently like to have with Saquan, which was their
decision not to sign them back. Neighbors has continued to
grow as their their number one kind of wide receiver,
though Slaton had some big plays last night and more yards,
but by and large, when you look at this team,
they just aren't a team that's like there as far
as where their roster is in order to compete.
Speaker 2 (14:57):
Consistently at a high level.
Speaker 5 (15:00):
Steelers are a completely different, more stable organization as far
as how they've built their roster to compete.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
So as much as.
Speaker 5 (15:07):
It's like a head coach, it's also like the entire organization,
like the New York Giants aren't anywhere close to the
same spot where they were back when they had Eli
and back when they had a lot more stability kind
of on the roster and what they're a building, what
they were trying to accomplish, that's more of like where
the Steelers are. The Steelers are the team that's been
a quarterback away, and at least in the last two games,
(15:29):
it seems like Russell might be the perfect fit, which
is something we talked about kind of before the season,
like if you got the version of Russell Wilson last
year from Denver, this team is plenty good enough combined
with their defense because that version the Pittsburgh Steelers fan
base would have killed for to have the last few seasons,
(15:51):
and it looks or appears as if that's the version
that they've got, and so far it's worked out really well.
Speaker 3 (15:57):
Yeah, they look good. So congratulations and Steeler Nation. You've
got your quarterback back and Russell Wilson throwing dimes last
night for the old Pittsburgh Steelers six.
Speaker 2 (16:08):
They learn how to finish, finish drives, they could be dangerous, man,
if they stay healthy on defense, I said Hot Smith
on the other side, I mean that is that is
a formidable. That is what Pittsburgh is all about, having
those two book ends like that.
Speaker 5 (16:25):
They remember they drafted him like in a spot where
he wasn't didn't have to be the immediate starter, eventually
worked his way into the position. Like that's that's like
an example of the organization that gets it.
Speaker 2 (16:36):
Yeah, that's Pittsburgh, man, That's that's what they do. And
then they could turn out to be I mean, you
look at what James Harrison had to do before he played,
or Jason Gilden before he played, Joey Porter before he
played like a lot of these guys, they they took
a long road to getting getting to where they even
Greg Lloyd, those guys, I mean, it's just they do it.
(16:58):
They do it in a way. I mean it's commendable.
And and T J. Watt and and high Smith are
that is that is a tremendously nice developing duo on
on the defensive side of the ball. So, you know,
I was impressed with with their ability to you know,
(17:20):
to find a way i'll say, in the game like
it at one point seemed like it was like, okay,
they they were dominating the game, took over the game,
and the whole feel of the game was what's towards
the Steelers. But then you see the New York Giants,
you know, find a way to get back into it
(17:40):
and actually make it make it into a game. I
thought it was. I thought it was a well played game,
even though it appeared to be kind of boring because
it kept being field goals early on. I thought it
was a well played game by by both teams. I
thought that they were very competitive towards one another, and
Pittsburgh led the entire game.
Speaker 5 (17:59):
You like, there's no point in like New York it
was able to take the lead, which I mean, I
guess it's it's kind of in the case for New
York if you're a you know, a sports fan with
the way the world.
Speaker 3 (18:09):
Seriously, thanks, Yeah, Two pros and a couple of the
same guy get them too, Like why they keep letting
the same guy hit him for bombs?
Speaker 2 (18:19):
Maybe we shouldn't pitch to Freddy Freeman. You think about
that Yankees feel good story, So we are gonna have
the usual. In fact, Joe was not as impressive as
ice Cube. It just didn't come across the same way.
I'm just saying, sorry, damn. I did like his tims
and his Yankees, his jacket, but he just wasn't as
like ice Cube had me ready to fight. And I'm
(18:40):
not even from the West Coast. You're from New York,
I'm on site. He had me west cast, west Side connected,
and I'm from I'm from the coast.
Speaker 6 (18:51):
Be sure to catch live editions of Two Pros and
a Cup of Joe with Brady Quinn, LeVar Arrington, and
Jonas Knox weekdays at six am East, three am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 3 (19:05):
Right now it is time for this Who needs the.
Speaker 2 (19:09):
Ap Top twenty five. I'm just seeing things that I
never thought exists.
Speaker 6 (19:12):
When you've got the VQ Top fifteen.
Speaker 2 (19:15):
Right, that's right, and unfortunately lee to the music. Nope,
not that music.
Speaker 5 (19:27):
This will be the last week of the Top fifteen,
as the college football playoff rankings are coming out November fifth,
a week from today. They'll be out that night, so
we'll review them on Wednesday. We can talk about a
little bit like what we're anticipating, but we got the
real rankings coming out, so we will go ahead and
(19:48):
castdays aside.
Speaker 2 (19:49):
But for the final week, let's go ahead and get
into it. Last five out.
Speaker 5 (19:53):
We're gonna start off at number twenty. Old Miss big
win over Oklahoma to get back on track. Look, the
biggest issue is they have two losses and they gotta
play Georgia in two weeks, so it seems like they
got their work cut out for him. What about LSU,
another two loss team getting handled by Texas and m
They did beat Old Miss earlier this year, so they
stay one spot ahead.
Speaker 2 (20:12):
But I don't know, Brian Kelly, maybe notre name wasn't
the problem.
Speaker 5 (20:15):
Number eighteen SMU a huge one this week versus Pitt
in the ACC. I'm not sure anyone predicted both these
teams would be competing for a shot to win the
ACC title this year.
Speaker 2 (20:25):
Nevertheless, SMU At number.
Speaker 5 (20:26):
Eighteen, Kansas State tight win over Kansas who struggled mightily
this year. That is a rivalry game, though, so we
give them the benefit of the doubt. I'd say it's
an easy path ahead. But every week is a bat
on the Big twelve. So we'll see if Kansas State
can remain unscathed until that big matchup for Siowa State
at the end of the season. At number sixteen, Boise
(20:49):
Stayed a huge win over UNLV on Friday night, maybe
very well be a preview to that rematch of the
Mount West championship game. Austin genty went off one hundred
and twenty eight yards and a touchdown on that one,
So he looks like he's on his way to New
York later on this.
Speaker 2 (21:07):
Season, all right.
Speaker 5 (21:08):
Kicking off at number fifteen, Alabama who drum Mazoo thirty
four nil. Maszoo always felt a little bit fraudulent the
dealing with some injuries to in particular at the quarterback spot.
But Bama's defense that struggled this year stepped up in
a big way. At number fourteen, one of the better
stories in college football pitt They handed cal Viccord one
(21:29):
of his worst performances of his career, and now these
seven to zero Panthers with a huge game up against SMU,
who talked about a moment ago this week and a
shot to eventually move on to play for the ACC championship.
At number thirteen, Texas and m Marcel Reid came in,
which was a nice change up to Connor Wigman at quarterback,
who's been struggling at times.
Speaker 2 (21:50):
Form a big win over LSU.
Speaker 5 (21:52):
This puts the Aggies squarely their playoff hopes in sight
if they continue this trend. One spot ahead my notre
name fighting Irish Ringing a number twelve a dominant win
over Navy. Now, should they be a top twenty five team,
We'll see by the end of the season. But that
being said, the Irish get the job done. The biggest
issue is going to be their strength of schedule. The
(22:14):
ANM win looks great and better by the week, however,
that's really the only quality win they've got, and that
NIU loss looks worse and worse. That's a four and
four team right now. Ringing at number eleven, the undefeated
BYU Cougars, and they were made undefeated after bludgeting UCF.
Speaker 2 (22:30):
I have no idea what Vegas was doing with that line.
Speaker 5 (22:33):
They're just not a buyer in this team, But I
am Jake Retzlov has been fantastic. They've got a bye
week and the Holy War waits for them on the
other side. At number ten Tennessee coming out there bye week.
They host uk this week. Last time out, they knocked
off Alabama. Now this comes down to UT's ability to
build up to that gigantic matchup versus Georgia on November sixteenth.
(22:55):
At number nine, Iowa State. They're coming off their bye week.
They're hosting Texas Tech this week. Suffered a disappointing loss
to TCU. Otherwise though this one we could be discussing
and discussing in a different fashion. But don't sleep on
Texas Tech all right. This would be a tough matchup
for Iowa State. They're also undefeated. Can they remain unscathed
through the rest of their Big twelve schedule? At number
eight Clemson, they're coming off thereby before beating down UVA handily,
(23:21):
the Tigers host Louisville. This is a much improved team.
We wrote them off after week won that big time
loss to Georgia. Cade Klubnicks played phenomenal this year. Is
one of the best passes in the ACC. They deserve
some props ringing it in at number seven Indiana after
the best start in Indiana history. I'm sure that makes
LeVar question what the hell is going on in Bloomington.
(23:41):
No one knows because people thought that maybe Washington would
give them a bit of trouble.
Speaker 2 (23:45):
Last week.
Speaker 5 (23:46):
They're playing with a backup quarterback in Tavan Jackson. No problems.
They win by two touchdowns. This team is for real.
They head to Michigan State this week and then two
big Boy games back to back Michigan then Ohio State.
Could you imagine them being undefeated head into that matchup
in Columbus. At number six, the Miami Hurricanes eight to no.
(24:06):
No issue with their in state rival FSU. Mario Cristobal
made a big time statement talking about the state of
Miami's program in comparison to the rest of the Florida schools.
Speaker 2 (24:15):
Not quite the.
Speaker 5 (24:15):
Performance were a Customs seeing out of cambore However, it
was the other big name transfer they got this year
from Oregon State, Damian Martinez picked up the slack fifteen
rushes almost one hundred and fifty yards, two tudies on
the ground. Next up is Duke. Miami's been playing some
things kind of close.
Speaker 2 (24:31):
To the vest.
Speaker 5 (24:31):
Don't sleep on Duke and Manny Diaz and that defense
creating some chaos potentially knocking off Miami this week.
Speaker 2 (24:39):
Keep an eye on it.
Speaker 5 (24:40):
At number five, Texas, They've got that one loss.
Speaker 2 (24:43):
Yes, it was a tough one to Georgia.
Speaker 5 (24:45):
However they bounce back this week beating a good Vanderbilt
team and look, that was a tight game. It speaks
volumes about where Vanderbilt's at in Clark Lee, more so
than saying that.
Speaker 2 (24:54):
Oh, Texas isn't quite who we thought they were.
Speaker 5 (24:57):
Quinn Eewers played okay, couple poor decisions, but the defense
really continued to shine through in that one. At number four,
the Ohio State University rebounded out from their loss to
Oregon a couple of weeks ago coming off of the buye. However,
it was not to the satisfaction of Buckeye Nation. The
offense struggled in the second half to come up with
(25:19):
over one hundred yards on offense. Look, they have a
twenty six point favorite, something of that nature. The o
Lions banged up, They've they've potentially got their third left
tackle in there, and it might be their left guard
Donovan Jackson's playing it moving forward. A big area of
concern is Ohio State heads into the biggest game of
the season so far against the number three Penn State
(25:39):
Nitney Lions undefeated and got a nice one over Wisconsin
on the road. Now the question there Drew Aller, will
he be there for this week's matchup? If not, no concerns.
Bo Perbuolah came in, did a nice job running the offense.
To be quite honest, it may be a better fit
for Andy Cole Nicky's system there. But the true test
comes this week. Not Penn State and James Franklin can
(26:02):
get over the hump and get.
Speaker 2 (26:03):
Over Ohio State. At number two.
Speaker 5 (26:05):
Is Oregon at commanding win over Illinois no ranked opponents
left on their schedule until the Big Ten Championship game.
The Ducks are flying high and at number one the
Georgia Bulldogs. I get it, people are gonna say, well,
they've got a loss. Oregon's undefeated. Look if they played
one another tomorrow Georgia would be favored. I can promise
you that they're coming off their buy after drumming Texas
two weeks ago. They've got Florida and the largest cocktail
(26:28):
party and a tough schedule head too.
Speaker 2 (26:30):
They've got Old Miss and.
Speaker 5 (26:30):
Also Tennessee and consecutive weeks. So whether or not Georgia
will remain number one will be interesting to see. I'm
sure the College Football Playoff Committe would have organ ranked
number one.
Speaker 2 (26:40):
Georgia is the best team in the country.
Speaker 5 (26:42):
That's your top fifteen, the last and final of the season.
Speaker 2 (26:47):
Nice boy, very well, jumb.
Speaker 3 (26:53):
Okay on that ap WHOA the Associated Press?
Speaker 2 (26:58):
Okay, you know that could be you know, I want
to be clear on that. Sure eight that way.
Speaker 3 (27:04):
Hey, you know I was gonna say that, you know what,
I'm happy for Mike Elko when he got the job
at Texas A and m there wasn't a lot of
people who were looking at it going yeah, just Mike. Really,
we're going, Mike Elko, That's that's where we're going.
Speaker 4 (27:17):
Now.
Speaker 3 (27:17):
Dude, They're seven to one, like Notre Dame's the only loss,
and they did they just keep rattling off wins and
considering where they came from and the disaster that was
Jimbo Fisher. I'm happy for the guy, I'm happy for
the program.
Speaker 5 (27:30):
I'll go as far as saying this, Texas and m
has maybe two of my favorite coaches in football and
men's basketball. I love Buzz Williams, I love Mike Elko.
I think they're both really good coaches. Like I don't
know if people there understand they're in a really good
position moving forward for years to come, and so hopefully
(27:51):
they don't, you know, get frustrated by all of this
or whatever happens this season.
Speaker 2 (27:55):
But I think they're on a path.
Speaker 5 (27:57):
If you look at the rest of their schedule, to
be a playoff team, and when it's all said and done,
you know, maybe it's a rematch versus Notre Dame. Who
knows how that first round is going to play out.
But they have a very clear path too, as after losing,
you know, everyone kind of wrote them off. But now
they've slowly started to come back. It's been defensive lead,
but also Marcel Reed, who came into a nice change
(28:18):
up you know job, you know, running the football, more
impacting the game with his legs.
Speaker 2 (28:22):
Not their name is gonna get in the college football playoff.
I think somebody called that out.
Speaker 3 (28:26):
Before as well, you know when's happening.
Speaker 2 (28:28):
When somebody else on the show was panicing like, man,
I don't know, I don't know if the schedule is
strong enough, I don't know. I was like, man, they're
going to get in. Yeah, they're going they can't afford
to lose another one. Yeah, but they're not getting in.
They're not two losses. I don't think they're going to
lose another one. Yeah, well they shouldn't. I mean, now,
Florida State's awful, Southern col Is obviously not very good.
(28:49):
I mean Army is their next toughest opponent. How many
times do you say, do they play them? Do they
play them at home? Or do they play that there?
Speaker 5 (28:57):
They always play it's a Yankee Stadium, Yankee Stadium. Okay,
then that there they should be good. They should That's
That's part of the most fascinating part I've got for
like my alma mater, is how will their schedule be
viewed because they haven't really played outside of Texas and
m to start the season. And there's a few other
examples like they're obviously play Southern col out West in
(29:18):
the Coliseum. But like you know, Navy this past week
they played them in met Life. It's not even like
it's how home field advantage really Army, They'll play in
the Yankee Stadium. Georgia Tech they played in the Mercedes
Benzone met Atlanta. So not even like on campus, which
I remember my senior year we played there in a
night game. It was rocking, man. I mean those fans,
(29:39):
I mean it's not a big venue, but they're all
up on you. And it's for a night game like
that you get, you get a bunch of people all tailgame,
all day, especially.
Speaker 2 (29:47):
In Atlanta, like they were ready to go for that.
Speaker 5 (29:49):
So I'm really curious to see how the playoff committee
views not like like two sides of it, right, Everyone
looks at strength strength to schedule because they want to
compare the teams that are undefeated, so like BYU and
Oregon and Penn State for example, which you know, if
Penn State wins this week, you know they're they're at
(30:10):
a minimum. I would think it'd be number two based
on the strength of schedule and all that. But the
general point is after you get from like strength to
schedule for the undefeated teams, you start to look at
like the one loss teams and go, okay, who they beat, like,
who's the toughest team they beat? And for the one
loss teams who they lose to, like it was that
one loss like a tough opponent or was that one
(30:31):
loss team a four and four NIU team? Like a
lot of times they hold that against you. And even
though we shouldn't be necessarily measuring like who they lost to,
it matters because I think they're worried about setting a
team that could have that bad day. That makes the
committee look like they're you know, didn't pick the best
twelve teams, which that is the one distinction I want
to make make sure everyone people know.
Speaker 2 (30:52):
It's not the top twelve teams in the rankings.
Speaker 5 (30:54):
That's not what it's going to be. It is the
five highest rank conference champs. So like in the scenario
that I think I played out at some point in
my notes, is you would get in like today's hypothetical
scenario if Oregon won the Big Ten, Georgia won the SEC,
Miami and Iowa State because those are the highest ranked
(31:15):
teams in the A people and their conference, those four
get automatic bids. The fifth would be Boise State, if
that makes sense that they won the Mountain West, but
they're ranked fifteenth right now. They people, so everyone has
this misconception of the top twelve team, it's not the
top twelve teams, that's not Boise State would then be
a part of that, the ranked fifteenth.
Speaker 3 (31:36):
Right now, and Boise would be the fifth seed.
Speaker 5 (31:39):
As far as the seating goes, yeah, I mean at
a minimum, they would we know, they'd host a playoff game.
Speaker 2 (31:45):
Okay, so they would. It would be the five to
twelve matchup. But yeah, this is the biggest weekend for Oregon,
by the way. They if they can go into ann
Arbor and win an the Big House, God bless, I
can't wait. What an amazing What an amazing story that
(32:06):
would be that a PAC twelve team and its inaugural years,
Michigans falling apart. Yeah, but I mean it's I know
what you're saying.
Speaker 5 (32:17):
But like Jack Tuttele, the one quarterback just retired, he
medically retired. Yeah, they've gone back to the who started
the season with Davis Warren and Alex I mean, it's
a disaster on offense for them. I actually think they
might be dead last I have to go back and
check the stats on it, but dead last for receiving yards.
I know for sure in the Big Ten by wide receivers,
but it might be nationally. It's an atrocious offense.
Speaker 2 (32:41):
It's like, for what it's worth, it's like all those
reasons are like you look at it and you say,
it's a Michigan team that will find a way to
at least play a spoiler as a fourteen and a
half point underdog. I don't know.
Speaker 5 (32:53):
They're ranked one thirtieth all right, out of one hundred
and thirty four teams. The only teams that are throwing
for less passing yards. Okay, Louisiana, Monroe, New Mexico State,
Air Force and Army.
Speaker 2 (33:05):
Yeah, I think. I think it's a tough throwing for
more yards. I was throwing for more yards kannessas State.
I think it's going to be a tough road northwest Agan.
I think I think the way this because Maryland is
like one of them weird teams too, like they'll knock
you off. That's like I always say that about the
Big Ten. Wisconsin is one of those weird teams. They'll
(33:27):
knock you off. This past week, well, I mean they
were winning out halftime. I'm just saying, that's what makes
the big ten to ten, if you ask me, is
that you can you can have all of those elements
in play and then here they go, and they'll come
out and they'll thump you. I would not be surprised
with all those things being said about Michigan if they
(33:49):
thump Oregon in the Big House. Sheesh. I'm just take
that bet. If you're listening to me out there and
you're betting this weekend, take that bet. I would lay
the fourteen and a half point. Take that bet.
Speaker 6 (34:01):
Be sure to catch live editions of Two Pros and
a Cup of Joe with Brady Quinn, LeVar Errington and
Jonas Knox weekdays at six am Eastern, three am Pacific.
Speaker 3 (34:11):
It is time to welcome in our guys stage tradition.
He is Pete Prisco, Senior NFL columnist for CBS Sports,
CBS Sports HQ analyst, a real smooth operator here on
this show. You can get him on X at Prisco, CBS. Pete, congratulations,
your guy Russell Wilson dealing for the Steelers deal in Dalan.
Speaker 2 (34:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (34:37):
Look, don't get me wrong. He brow he made the
Calvin Austin without standing pickens. Which one the George Dickens.
Speaker 5 (34:47):
I want up the sideline. That was like a perfectly
thrown ball that it cat and ran up to about
the ten.
Speaker 4 (34:51):
Yeah. Look he made a couple of really good throws
took Look he fumbled, He fumbled and nearly gave him
the game. But aside from that, he was it looks
he was pretty good. Don't get me wrong, I'm not.
Speaker 2 (35:04):
Going to take the Giants.
Speaker 4 (35:06):
What's that?
Speaker 2 (35:07):
Did you take the Giants? The points?
Speaker 4 (35:08):
No? I picked the Steelers. I thought that game would
be far worse than it was. I was a little
disappointed to the Steelers defense, to be honest with you.
They got pushed around a little bit. But as far
as Russell Wilson, now, go out on the road and
do it against a good team, because look he played
the Jets first time playing, threw a couple of pop
ups they were caught. Good game, not great. This game
started slowly, finally got it going, threw a couple of
(35:31):
balls down the field, made some plays, made a couple
of good throws. Kept the bad defense was kirs.
Speaker 2 (35:36):
Kirk Cousins played fantastic this week or it's the Tampa
Bay Bucks.
Speaker 4 (35:40):
Kirk Cousins played. Kirk Cousins owns the Tampa Bay Bucks.
If he played the Tampa Bay Bucks every week, he'd
be the MVP. I mean to be no doubt about it.
Speaker 2 (35:48):
Does the time of day matter when he plays the Bucks?
Speaker 4 (35:53):
No, it does not. For him. It doesn't matter when
it played. When it comes to play the Bucks, it
doesn't matter. If anybody else it matters. It's just like
Daniel Joe, Daniel Jones is now what one in fifteen
in prime time? It matters?
Speaker 2 (36:04):
What about Will Levis? Where's he fall into this this equation?
Speaker 4 (36:08):
Where's he fall? Yeahs sitting on his ask because he's
got it. He's injured. He should be he'll be back.
I mean, look, h Mason Rudolph stinks and that lot.
But you're about the Titans. The Titans. Here's what the
Titans did. They decided at halftime to go look for
their reservations in Bermuda to see how they're going. Because
(36:29):
they packed it up and went home. They're done, they're finished.
You start trading off assets. Players. Look you guys know players,
look around that locker room. They're done. They're toast. They're
going to Bermuda and other sports are called because they're finished.
Speaker 3 (36:39):
Dang, Pete Prisco joining us here on Fox Sports Radio. So, Pete,
you're more of an optimistic, upbeat guy, so this should
be a little bit.
Speaker 2 (36:47):
Foreign to you.
Speaker 3 (36:48):
Who is way worse than you expected so far this year?
Speaker 4 (36:55):
Dallas? Yeah, yeah, they're bad. I mean you look across
the board. What do they do well? Aside from Dak
Truscott throwing the CD LAMB take that out of the equation,
what else do they do well? Nothing? They don't run
the ball, They're not great on the offensive line. They
don't have the number two or number three weapon that
does anything. The defense gets pushed around. They're terrible in
(37:16):
the run game. The secondary gives up a lot of
big plays. What do they do with Michael Parsons not
being on the field, Really, what do they do well?
They do nothing. They don't do anything well right now,
And to me, I thought they'd be much better than
what they are. And they have big problems. It looks
their schedule. They go to Atlanta this week and then
they got a bunch of tough games coming up. They
(37:38):
have major problems and that team doesn't look like it's
going to get any better.
Speaker 2 (37:45):
All right, So it doesn't look like Dallas is going
to get any better. How I mean, you guys you
heard the statements Jerry Jones, mate, some of the players
were complaining. Dak Prescott kind of defended it and said, look,
he's focused, doesn't matter and you know people touring around
seeing them around, what what? How do you see this
(38:06):
all playing out? Pete with with Dallas since they're worse
than what you thought or as bad as you you
know they could be. Whatever it is. However, the conclusion
came about what's next.
Speaker 4 (38:18):
Well, and what's next is he said he was going
all in this year, so this is all in. They
got major problems until Jerry, you know, let somebody make
the football decisions other than himself, then you're gonna have
problems there. And he's not going to do that. So
it's ultimately gonna and he's got some good people working
under him, but they you know, he makes the decision.
He's the facto general manager. And that's the problem as
(38:39):
far as the tours. Look, if you're a player and
that bothers, you give me a break. Come on, I mean,
do you want to they're not in the locker room
they're not. They're not. They're walking through the building. I mean,
players will look for any kind of thing to complain about.
You guys know that you were players. You complain about everything.
Oh the the messuit wasn't as it wasn't as firm
(39:01):
as she was, as he was or she was last week.
Oh my god, it's a little too. It's a little.
It's a degree higher than what I.
Speaker 2 (39:10):
Pete who complains for the NFL players or w NBA players.
Speaker 4 (39:15):
NFL players are far worse because they're far more pampered.
To give me a break, Like when when when when
Brady came to work for us, he expected everybody to
roll out the red carpet for him. Here we go.
Speaker 2 (39:30):
Is that the case?
Speaker 4 (39:31):
No, that's not the case. I'm kidding. By the way,
Brady might be one of the most down to earth
NFL players I've living met.
Speaker 2 (39:36):
And do you miss Jersey Mike Sundays?
Speaker 4 (39:39):
At this point, what's that, Brady?
Speaker 2 (39:43):
I said, do you miss Jersey Mike Sundays?
Speaker 4 (39:46):
Well, I mean watching you eat? If this is a
true story, And I don't think I've ever told you
guys this. One day we were sitting in there and
then somebody comes in, they go, we're gonna order Jersey
Mike subs and it's you know the place, guys. No,
this was a couple of years ago, before four last year.
And Brady goes in and he goes and orders this
sub and he goes through the thing and he orders
(40:06):
this entire add on, add on, add on, double meat, giants,
double met. By the time the sub was ordered, it
was forty something forty thirty dollars. It was airb I
did he put gold flakes on the damn thing to
make it that expensive? And by the way, he ate
it about two minutes. You guys have been around Brady eating.
I've never seen a man he's so fast.
Speaker 2 (40:25):
Oh yeah, yeah, well my dad was a marine. He
Tommy fast.
Speaker 4 (40:29):
Hey.
Speaker 2 (40:29):
Rick Spielman's right there next to me. By the way,
Rick eats fast as well.
Speaker 4 (40:33):
Yeah, and he's he's a little more slovenly when he
eats the us.
Speaker 2 (40:39):
Hey, Pete, what did you think about Dwayne Wade's statue?
Speaker 4 (40:45):
That thing looked more like it looked more like me
than it looked like him. Let me ask you this.
You're you're a sculptor. You're supposed to be this great sculptor.
Oh my god, let's hire him out. And can you
put that out? I mean, what, God forbid it? That's
your best? What's your worst? I mean that's first off
(41:07):
anything anyway, Brady knows how I feel about art. I mean,
you walk into a museum and look around and go,
oh my god, that's art. I mean it looks like
some fourth grader painted it. Oh look, how beautiful, magnificent.
Look at the lines. What are you talking about? The
second grader drew it and gave it to his mother
now to hang in his art. That's what art is.
And his sculpture is terrible. That thing looks awful. And
(41:28):
I why were Dwayne Wade I put like something on
there saying, I know this doesn't look like me, but
it's supposed to be me. Some people know that.
Speaker 2 (41:36):
They said it looks like Morpheus from the Matrix. That's
what's going around right now.
Speaker 4 (41:43):
Do you guys think do you guys think it looks
anything like it? Nothing? But you know what some of
the Hall of Fame bust. If you look at him,
you go, oh, yeah, they don't look like it must
be real hard to do. I don't know. Is it
hard to make somebody's face, you know, bobblehead, you know
it made and it looks nothing like me. It really,
(42:04):
it's amazing. They it's so hard to maybe it's hard.
There's where AI is gonna come in. They're gonna be
making bigre gonna have the greatest sculptures in the world.
Speaker 5 (42:12):
A something we debated about to start off the show
was kind of that that two tap by George Pickens
last night.
Speaker 2 (42:20):
Uh, some of us were not even aware that was
the rule.
Speaker 5 (42:23):
I'm more kind of looking at it saying like, it
looks like a catch and if you know, if it
walks like a duck, it quacks like a it's probably
a duck. Right, Like, do you think they should change
that rule to allow you to tap a foot twice
if you're athletic enough to be able to do it?
Speaker 4 (42:39):
Right? Right? You mean you're talking about right?
Speaker 2 (42:41):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (42:42):
You know what that you know that story right right right?
John John Beeson worked for US former linebacker NFL played
for US. Watch, you know, John b watching the game.
We're watching a game on Sunday and player does they
get to put down and taps it the right one
twice and he goes great catch, great catch, and We're going,
(43:02):
what are you talking about? He didn't get the left
one down and he goes, no, we got right right.
I go, John, how many years did you play in
the league. You don't know that you got to get
both of them down? And he goes, no, right right,
I go John, that's not a rule. So last night
was a perfect example of what was it? Right? Right?
Because he didn't get the left one down, so he
correct but it asked to me like, no, get him
(43:23):
boat down.
Speaker 2 (43:24):
So you don't want to change it?
Speaker 4 (43:27):
No, I don't want to change it, keep them keep
it the way it is. Why don't we only got
to change rules because.
Speaker 5 (43:32):
It looked like a catch, dude, like like watching her
Like okay, and then let's be real about it, like
we used to have appeared in time where what we
deemed a catch in the field of play was different
than well, how we deemed to catch in the end zone,
and the way it was officiated and the way it
was reviewed it was like two different things. So I'm
just saying, like, if you're able to actually do that,
which it sounds like what Beeson hadn't worked there in
(43:54):
what five years?
Speaker 2 (43:55):
Six years? Right?
Speaker 4 (43:56):
Right?
Speaker 2 (43:57):
Okay? So that was one place six years ago.
Speaker 5 (43:59):
We just saw it six years later, like it seems
like an anomaly that maybe we should think that that one.
Speaker 2 (44:03):
Is a catch.
Speaker 4 (44:05):
Yeah, I'm all, you know, make it a simple hit
both of them. Man, that's it. Don't make it so
dee or you already go to like the college rule,
get one in. I mean you can do that. You
can do that to make it really easy. Right.
Speaker 3 (44:17):
Uh, Pete, before we let you go, which bet did
you lose this week that you were on the right
side of. That's not your fault. They just didn't cooperate.
Therefore you shouldn't be held accountable for the loss.
Speaker 4 (44:29):
Uh. The chiefs gave up the Omeo Mio late, didn't they.
Speaker 2 (44:33):
Yeah, yeah, well that was a bad line. Was eight
and a half eight Yeah, and.
Speaker 4 (44:38):
They gave up. You could see it coming. We were
sitting there in the green room and I go, here
comes the Omeo Mayo. I go, you know, because Brady
knows what that is. We go, oh me, oh my, oh,
that's the Omeo Mayo. They came right down and they scored. Yeah,
so it was I had And by the way, my picks, Brady,
I need you back. My picks are so damn bad.
They're awful right now. I can't pick anything back.
Speaker 2 (44:59):
You never beat me. I don't know what. I don't
know how I'm going to help you.
Speaker 4 (45:02):
But you know what, here's the thing. Uh, when I
picked the Bears game, I picked. I picked the Bears
because I don't think Daniels was going to play. And
I'm sitting there there and I go, oh, well, maybe
I'll get a bonus out of this. Now that Bear
because I didn't think Daniels was going to play. And
there you go. You get you get to get the
hail mary because Matt Eberflus is too stupid to use
the time out, I mean, and then you got Tyreek
(45:22):
Stevens and dancing on the sidelines, which is a reflection
of the head coach, by the way, and on third
that on they played before that, he played the prevot
and let him get fifteen more York so he could
throw the hail mary. That might be one of the
worst coaching situational football times I've seen in a long time.
He botched it. He's responsible for it. He cast him
the game.
Speaker 2 (45:42):
Damn wow. Get him on X at Prisco CBS.
Speaker 3 (45:46):
He is Pete Prisco Senior NFL columnist for CBS Sports
and an analyst for CBS Sports HQ smooth and by
the way, next time you guys, I'm.
Speaker 4 (45:54):
Going to work on my Brady Quinn. I'm going to
work on my Brady Quinn sculpture. Just gonna put that
out there.
Speaker 2 (46:01):
What is it gonna look like? Will Brinson.
Speaker 4 (46:03):
It's gonna have a big head, I know that much.
Speaker 5 (46:06):
Dang see if Pete, that's coolna st Pete's got a bobblehead.
Apparently it doesn't look anything like him because he's got
a small head, so it'd be hard to put a
bobble It's funny. I'm in a group chat with some
of those guys and Pete for whatever reason, and he's
like at home set up.
Speaker 2 (46:24):
It's like he looks super pale, and he's not.
Speaker 5 (46:26):
He's actually like very very tan, which makes everyone laugh
because when he's at home, it looks like he hasn't
seen the sun for like three months. But we think
it's like a setting on his camera. And obviously he's
too old to figure out like to how to like
change it, like to like soften the contrast or whatever.
But it's if you see Pete on CBS Sports HQB
(46:48):
make sure to reach out and tweet at him and
ask him why he looks so bale, because he's really
not man.
Speaker 2 (46:53):
He's great
