You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
Mom Spaghetti, calm ready, then that this song sucks. Two
Pros and a Cup of Joe Fox Sports Radio. Well,
LaVar Arrington, Jonas Knox with you Hair. We are going
(01:04):
to take you all the way up until the end
of this hour nine am Eastern Time, six o'clock Pacific,
and we're doing it all live from the ti rack
dot Com studios tirack dot com. Well we get there,
unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free road hasard protection, and
over ten thousand recommended installers ti rack dot com the
way tire buying should be. So it was the conclusion
of week sixteen in the NFL last night at lambeau Field,
(01:28):
and it was the green Bay Packers first shutout of
the season, thirty four to zhering the final score as
the Packers annihilate the New Orleans Saints. Just a terrible,
terrible Saints team who's had a really, really long season.
So that was good for the Green Bay Packers, good
for everybody involved. They are on their way to the playoffs,
(01:48):
and now look at potential first round matchups in the playoffs.
All right, this is where things could get interesting in
the NFC, where, if you're looking at it right now,
if Detroit holds onto the one and obviously they're going
to play Minnesota and there's still an opportunity there for
the Vikings. But if Detroit hol's onto the one seed,
they would have the buye. As it stands right now,
(02:10):
Philly is the two seed, so we could get ourselves
Philly and Washington in the first round, which, based on
how they just played each other this past weekend, that
would be a fun one. The three to six matchup
would see the Packers traveling to, as it stands right now,
the Los Angeles Rams, so Lee to Lap might get
(02:34):
to see his Packers at Sofi Stadium, the world's largest
gazebo in the first round against the La Rams.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
Yeah, I'm already looking for a ticket. They're scary too.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
Let's do it.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
The Rams are scary. That's a scary team. Healthy. I
think a healthy Rams team is a scary team.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
Be honest with you. I think I kind of like
green Bay in that matchup.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
I mean I would not bet against green Bay, but
a healthy, a healthy Rams team could be a problem
for green Bay, Like could be a real problem. That
could be a real issue.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
I mean, there's an outside shot it could be Seattle
who wins the NFC West.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
Probably not. I think it's more I think you want
if I had to choose, I'd rather have Seattle than
have the Rams. Oh yeah, yeah, if I had to choose.
Speaker 1 (03:27):
Yeah, And and I think that you know, just looking
at that, I mean, then you'll get that.
Speaker 3 (03:32):
Hooka nikua bruh. I'm telling you out here, smoking them,
smoking them, smoking down that, smoking smoking on that, smoking
them out here?
Speaker 1 (03:42):
Has anybody come up with a hookah bar called a
hooka nakula in honor of Lebar Arrington?
Speaker 3 (03:47):
Is anybody uh, in honor.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
Of me that is brilliant, absolutely brilliant. Jonas get a
brick and mortar going where is this.
Speaker 4 (03:57):
It needs to be a franchise across the United States.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
Houka nikoua goo var.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
With the LeVar Island there should be a flavor at
least hey Hookah. So that is the that is the
potential matchup in the first round. We could get Packers
Rams in the first round of the NFC playoffs, so
a lot to play out. We got a couple of
weeks left. Weeks seventeen kicks off tomorrow on Christmas Day.
We mentioned it. We've got the Chiefs at the Steelers.
(04:27):
You're also going to have the Baltimore Ravens at the
Houston Texans, and then Thursday Night Football the next day
after that, you're going to get the Seahawks. As we mentioned,
they've got a late season by at the Bears. So
there's the there's the schedule coming up in the NFL. Now,
a former member of this next organization we're going to
(04:47):
talk about was seen last night on Monday Night Football,
and that's somebody is Josh Jacobs, and we were mentioning that, look,
if you're Josh Jacobs, it's got to feel it's like
a breath of fresh air, like not only on a
good football team, but you don't have to walk around
and worry about, like you know, getting approached by a
drug addict or a hooker at all hours of the day,
(05:08):
like he would be in Las Vegas. And so he
has passed up the opportunity to walk by some penny
slot machines, to see somebody on a ventilator blowing through
their last life savings because they're trying to make it
big and move over to whiskey. Pete's at State Line
and instead he's in Green Bay now getting ready for
the postseason. Well, his former team will not be getting
(05:31):
ready for the postseason.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
We aren't getting ready for the postseason, just a little
differently than his getting ready for the Poston.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
They're also not going to be getting ready to pick
number one overall in the draft, which Raider fans are
very bothered by. Antonio Piers. Antonio Piers spoke yesterday with
the media about the complaints that the Raiders now are
out of the potential running of that number one pick
(05:57):
and shod Or Sanders.
Speaker 5 (05:58):
But we worn't eighty hours a week. Half players come here,
you know, they're forty plus hours to work. We don't
do this to lose. We don't do this for anybody's
fantasy football team. We don't do anybody's drafts projections. None
that matters to us. Matters is winning and that's all
we want to do.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
So fans are probably not gonna be thrilled with that.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
Why not? Well, why wouldn't you be thrilled? I agree,
it's the truth.
Speaker 1 (06:23):
I agree, I would agree, But but what All right,
here's here's where all defend.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
You sent that man into a war of guns with
spitballs and straws, like bang, Really, who's gonna win? Thanks?
Speaker 1 (06:43):
Man?
Speaker 3 (06:43):
Stupid? Stupid. I'm just saying, man, like if I if
I were him, i'd be frustrated too, because you don't
have a quarterback. And that's why Davante wanted to leave.
Davante Davante Adams. Yeah, I got it right, That's why
he wanted to leave. You look at this team, Josh Jacobs.
(07:04):
I mean, you don't bring him back, but you didn't
replace him. Like, you don't have a quarterback, you lose
the the production of what you could have possibly had,
and in Adams, you lose the production of what you
would have had. In Josh Jacobs, please help me understand
(07:29):
how you could get offended by what Antonio Pears just said.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
So here's why I could understand the fan base, Like
I don't I don't agree with you.
Speaker 3 (07:38):
Dare you not care about my fantasy team?
Speaker 1 (07:40):
Well, here's what. Here's why I can understand the fan base.
You're looking around just your own division, and you're going
Mahomes Herbert Bownicks. Damn, we don't have a shot like
for the next ten years, Like you're behind the eight
ball because you don't have a quarterback. And so if
(08:01):
the thought is that shad Or Sanders is the next
big thing, like that could be your path to getting
out of the purgatory that you're in in the AFC West,
Here's why I would disagree with some of that. There's
no guarantee that shad Or Sanders is going to be
a success. And also it like we've talked about Caleb Williams,
(08:22):
Like Caleb Williams, you could have be as talented as
you want, and he's as talented as anybody's come out
in the drafting hours, exactly Like you've got to have
a foundation there. So while they're sitting.
Speaker 3 (08:32):
There point you got to have some foundation. Is the
proper terminology.
Speaker 1 (08:36):
Like it ain't just it's Look, the Raiders are a
bad team. It's not just the quarterback, like like, there's
not it's not just And also yeah, you may not
end up parts. It's the main part of the main part.
But there's also other issues that are there for the Raiders.
And like if you just you look at it, you go,
(08:56):
if you put Shad or Sanders on this team right now,
are they a playoff team? Probably not? Like most likely not.
Speaker 3 (09:04):
Are they going in the right direction? Sure, brock Bowers,
you add another receiver through free agency, You'll maybe add
another receiver through the draft. I just look at where
they're at right now. If you have a foundational piece
in a quarterback that can stabilize what you have going on,
(09:27):
yes you have a chance to be contending for a
playoff spot, even in the AFC West. I mean, look
at what it did for I mean keep in mind, now,
what was what was Denver last year?
Speaker 1 (09:45):
Oh they're terrible? What was Denver last year? And they
were also dealing with the Russell Wilson And they thought
they had a quarterback. Now think about that. They went
through what they went through. People thought Sean Pate might
have been washed last year, he might be washed. He
gets rid of Russ because Russ wasn't his type of quarterback,
(10:09):
gets a late draft pick, a late first round draft pick,
the last quarterback on the board he gets, and and
that's who he wanted.
Speaker 3 (10:21):
I thought it was cap. I ain't think it was.
I thought he was being dishonest. I didn't think it
was is what. I didn't think it was what he
said it was. And it turns out it's exactly what
he said it was. That's the type of quarterback he
needed in order to be able to start turning around
(10:42):
his team. Is Denver going to the playoffs? They got
a shot? They got a shot there in the driver's seat.
Are they going to the playoffs? Do we know yet?
Speaker 1 (10:50):
Now?
Speaker 3 (10:51):
How many? How far away are they? It's like two games.
Speaker 1 (10:54):
They need to win another game to get into the postseason.
Cincinnati is trying to hold to climb back in it.
So if they're they're fighting it out right now. All
they're in the discussion.
Speaker 3 (11:05):
All I'm gonna say is, if you're going to have
a real opportunity, this exists in high school, if you
have a quarterback, if you have a legit quarterback in
high school, you'll probably win okay, but win it all.
Speaker 1 (11:21):
Now they're on the outside looking in on the quarterback
sweep stakes in the draft.
Speaker 3 (11:26):
If you're looking on, if you're on the outside looking in,
you either got to try to find a dope ass
QB in and free agency or you're lit for another year.
Speaker 4 (11:36):
Man.
Speaker 1 (11:37):
And that's why. Look, I understand the fans complaint because
they're looking at their their situation at quarterback. I totally
get it. It just there's not a guarantee that should
or Sanders is going to be the guy that's going
to take you out from wherever you are. And also,
on top of that, why should Antonio Peers give a
flying crap about whether or not next year is going
(11:58):
to involve.
Speaker 3 (11:59):
Should or sand He might not even be there.
Speaker 1 (12:01):
He's trying to save his job.
Speaker 3 (12:03):
Might not even be there, like old but like.
Speaker 1 (12:06):
Wa wait, wait, save some for tomorrow, save some for tomorrow.
Like what do you mean.
Speaker 3 (12:11):
It's my last meal? No, I gotta ain't no doggy bag.
So let me let's look at it this way, remember
doggy bags. Yeah, we're sweet. Who becomes a free agent?
Who is a coveted free agent at the position this offseason?
Speaker 1 (12:25):
Sam Donald, h there you go if they decide to
go inn Southern cow Kit. If they decide to go
in a different direction, Sam Donald could be the guy.
There you go and look, there's potentially.
Speaker 3 (12:40):
Lee.
Speaker 1 (12:40):
I don't know if this is going to happen, but
there and we can ask Pete Prisco about this when
he stops by to I don't know. I don't know
if Pete Prisco's got any intel on this, but there
has been some speculation. What if the Jaguars end up
going the direction of a quarterback in the draft and
want to start this whole thing over.
Speaker 3 (12:58):
I wouldn't want him.
Speaker 1 (12:59):
You want to want to trade Trevor Lawrence?
Speaker 3 (13:01):
I wouldn't want him.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
You wouldn't want to trade for the guy who looks
like the villain and the painting of Ghostbusters too. Mm hmmm,
you don't want him, No, damn Justin Fields. Mm hmmm.
Speaker 3 (13:17):
Nope. My job is on the line, like this is it?
Like if AP is able to get it another year,
you gotta believe this, this one is it? This is
it if you don't win this year like the I
don't think I'm winning with any of those. And also
the Vikings may decide they got Yeah, why are we
(13:38):
going to take.
Speaker 1 (13:39):
A chance on this that you gotta sign him. Maybe
they Jj McCarthy. Maybe would Minnesota be open that. I
think you keep them and you do it, Jordan Love.
But they've got Daniel Jones in Minnesota.
Speaker 3 (13:53):
They brought him in, They did bring him in. Deal him,
deal him doing that again, yeahd deal him all right.
Giants didn't want him, Sam Darnold, you don't know how
this season's going, and he might he might get a
little deep run deal Daniel Jones.
Speaker 1 (14:12):
I mean, there's really one solution to this whole thing.
Like Tom Brady's got to stop messing around and just
come back to the NFL, like he's got a you know,
he's involved with that team. Just go take over the
Raiders and see if you can get that back on track.
But nonetheless, Raider fans not happy. Antonio appears doesn't give
a crap, and why should he. It is two pros
(14:32):
and a cup of Joe Here on Fox Sports Radio,
LeVar Arrington, Jonas Knox with you here. Coming up next,
we are going to get to some news and notes
from around the NFL, some speculation about jobs on the
line that may be a little bit of a surprise
for you after the season, and that'll be yours next
here on FSR.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
Be sure to catch live editions of Two Pros and
a Cup of Joe with Brady Quinn, LeVar Errington, and
Jonas Knox weekdays at six am Eastern, three am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (15:03):
Two Pros and a Cup of Joe, Fox Sports Radio,
LaVar Arrington, Jonas Knox with you here.
Speaker 3 (15:09):
Come it up.
Speaker 1 (15:11):
At about twenty minutes from now here from the tire
rack dot Com studios, we are going to have the
special Christmas Eve edition of Lee's Leftovers right here on FSR.
That'll be yours here again. About twenty minutes from now.
Right now, we are going to catch up with our
guy Pete Prisco. A lot to talk to Pete Prisco
(15:34):
about you, I don't think, although I think Pete doesn't
mind that though, like he'll mix it up. He likes
mixing it up a little bit.
Speaker 3 (15:43):
You know. Stay, Pete, did you hear about the the
uh okay? Okay? All right?
Speaker 1 (15:51):
Well, well yeah, we'll ask him in a second. We'll
check in with with Pete trying to get to the
second bottom unfl like he was there bottom of these
these beef waters. So yes, right now, we are going
to turn it over to the smooth operator himself. He
is a senior NFL columnist at CBS Sports. He is
a CBS Sports HQ analyst. He is the great Pete Prisco.
(16:13):
Hell yeah, you find him on X at Prisco CBS. Hey, Peter,
are you familiar? First of all, Merry Christmas to you
and yours. Merry Christmas, Peter, Christmas. You guys, are you
familiar with the term beef water?
Speaker 3 (16:25):
We just created it here on this show.
Speaker 1 (16:27):
All right, So here, here's what it means. It means
people who just love beefing social media in the media.
They just they can't get enough of it. And it
feels like some people in our industry are really all
about that. Just beefing with other people in the industry
is one of those.
Speaker 3 (16:45):
No.
Speaker 6 (16:46):
I mean, do I like a good argument with somebody? Absolutely?
Am I going to get into it with him on
Twitter on a constant basis anymore? No, because everybody's looking
to take you down. So I you know, the way
I look at it, it's not worth it to argue with
a guy who's living in his baby and has four followers.
Speaker 3 (17:03):
The beef is against somebody else that isn't living in
a basement and doesn't have four followers.
Speaker 6 (17:09):
Well, I mean I used to argue with LeVar all
the time on his when he had his show in DC.
Speaker 3 (17:14):
We didn't be we never had, we had no beef.
Speaker 6 (17:17):
We just you just lost a lot of arguments.
Speaker 3 (17:19):
Yeah, that's fine, that's perfectly fine. I'm okay with that.
Did you hear about what took place where Herb Street
and Sharp?
Speaker 6 (17:29):
Yeah? I mean, look, there are certain people in our
industry that have a self importance about themselves, and the
reality is you're not any more important than anybody else.
Just you know, look what I did. Look at me,
Look at I mean the beat between Ryan Clark and
Aaron Rodgers. You're kidding me, Give me a break. I mean,
the whole thing, every there was. Let's put it this way.
(17:50):
There's probably twenty people in this industry that walk around
and act like they invented the damn games. You know,
like the game never the game never happened before they
were covering it. It never happened after or before they
played it, never happened after. And here's the bottom line,
And LaVar, you were in an NFL locker you've been around.
You get hurt, may kick you to the curb so fast,
(18:14):
well be dead that locker. You know that when something's
heart in the locker room. I don't care who you are,
if you're a star of the team or whatever team's
playing on, you're dead. You walk through your dead. And
that's basically the game goes on without you. The game
will go on long before it went on long before us,
It will go long long after us, and quit having
a self importance of who the hell do you think
(18:34):
you are?
Speaker 1 (18:34):
Yeah, happy holidays from Pete Prisco. Everybody what you're injured,
You're dead. That's kind of true, Pete. How surprised are
you now that we've seen the Packers get to the postseason,
Now that we see the Packers get to the postseason
fifth time in six years for Matt Lafleur, How surprised
(18:55):
are you at the success that Matt laflor has had
because I don't know that a lot of people expected
this when the hire was made, and yet here he
is again in the postseason without Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 6 (19:07):
He's a great coach. He's a great coach, and look
he hasn't won a Super Bowl, so that people hold
they always hold that against you. But you know, at
one point, I think you the first coach to have
three straight twelve wins or thirteen win seasons. At one point,
nobody even knows that he's done a fantastic job. I mean,
he really has. And this team I picked him to
go to the Super Bowl. I picked him this way,
(19:27):
the Bills the Super Bowl. I still like my peck.
I think they can get on one of those hot runs.
They're physical. You know, that's the one thing that you
always used to say about the Packers. They're not physical.
They can score, they're pretty, they can do a lot
of things, but they're not physical. This team is physical.
The line is good. The offensive line is really good.
They can run the ball. Jacobs can run the ball.
They have a lot of weapons to throw it to
when they need to throw it. And then you go
(19:48):
to the defensive side of the ball. Jeff Athley's done
a great job with that group. And they're much more physical,
you know, just Okay, the Saints aren't very good, but
they physically mauled them. But they went to Seattle two
weeks ago and physically mal that team at their place,
and that's the sign of a team that can get
hot and going out in the playoffs and win a
lot of games.
Speaker 3 (20:08):
Pete, looking at how the playoff pitcher is is unfolding.
What what to you is most intriguing at this this moment.
You know, during the course of the season.
Speaker 6 (20:21):
Well, I think you have to look at the hot teams.
I mean, the Rams are the hot team. Who are
they going to play in the first round? That's an
interesting one. Yeah, you know you're going to get one
of those NFC North teams. Which one is it going
to be? Is it going to be? You know, where
do you want to be? Do you want to be three?
Do you want to be four? You know, there's there's
some of that going on too. For example, you play
(20:42):
if you're the if you're the Texans this week and
you're playing the Ravens and you win that game, you
pretty much I think you're going to try and you
might end up with the third seed. Right, Do you
want to play the Ravens again in case they're the
wildcard team? You know what I mean? I don't so.
I I think you have to start looking at who's
going to be playing who? But the Rams in the
(21:05):
NFC North team, whoever it is, that's going to be
an interesting game because you know, half the building is
going to be full of that NFC North teams fan base.
That's just the way they are, whether it's the Packers,
the Vikings, the line, They're going to be there. So
it's going to be like the home game. And but
the Rams are hot, and I think that that's always
an intriguing one. And then the other part of it is,
(21:25):
you know, if the Steelers lose out to the Ravens,
how are they when they go out on the road.
I think that's an interesting.
Speaker 3 (21:32):
One as well.
Speaker 1 (21:33):
Pete Prisco joining us here on Fox Sports Radio. Get
him on x at Prisco CBS. So we were talking
about Antonio Pierce's comments basically doesn't give a rip about
what the fans want when it comes to the number
one draft pick and then beating your Jaguars over the
weekend and kind of basically i ing thing themselves out
of the opportunity most likely to draft Shador Sanders. So
(21:53):
let's say they are on the outside looking in the
Raiders are when it comes to drafting a quarterback high
and the upcome draft, what's like the next best thing
is it? A Sam Darnold, Like, what would be the
next best thing for the Raiders if they can't get
one of those top two qbs?
Speaker 3 (22:09):
Pete uh Jonas said, maybe trade uh you know, Prince
Charming from out of Jacksonville to you know, to the
Vegas Raiders.
Speaker 1 (22:19):
I mean, I'm just thinking, like, you know, the.
Speaker 6 (22:21):
Contractor the contract is untradeable. First off, you can't do that,
do it. I mean, he's got he got half of
he got a quarter of a billion dollars, and he
got so many, so much acceleration. They're not gonna do that.
They're gonna build around that guy.
Speaker 3 (22:33):
You like that?
Speaker 6 (22:35):
What's that?
Speaker 3 (22:35):
You like that?
Speaker 6 (22:37):
Of course you get you get a right coach in there,
in the right system, he's gonna be Look if Ben
Johnson goes in there, Ben Johnson's gonna do what he
did with Jarickoff when he did He's gonna do exactly
the same thing with with Trevor Lawrence. I believe that
he's athletic, he can move, he can throw it. I
think the system has been bad and and there's been
a bunch of reasons, you know, injuries have killed them too.
(22:59):
With injuries at wide receive no Brian Thomas number one
wide receiver, Termolar stays there. They're going to be a
dynamic group when when they get the right coach in there,
and they're going to get the right coach there. As
for the Raiders, would you pay Sam Donald forty five
million dollars a year to be a quarterback?
Speaker 3 (23:12):
Yes? To do what today? Yes? You know today today
being in the situation that they're in right now, Yes,
I would.
Speaker 6 (23:22):
I mean, don't you think that there's a little bit
of Sam Donald the concern around the league that he
might turn into Sam Donald? Again? I mean, isn't there
some of that?
Speaker 3 (23:32):
I think that's it's sad to say that someone who's
shown in the right and the right situation that they
can be everything that you thought they would be, and
then now, based upon circumstances that that he's had to
live through and endure in his career, that he's going
to be judged and measured off of those circumstances, not
(23:53):
what his what not what his talent level is. Now
you got to take a guy tohead the talent.
Speaker 6 (23:58):
But the other way you can, but the other way
to LeVar and say, okay, well, Okay, what about the circumstances.
Now he's got a great offensive minded head coach, he's
got Justin Jefferson. He goes to the Raiders, he don't
have Justin Jefferson. So the circumstances are the circumstances now
making him the player he is. You can argue with that.
Speaker 3 (24:16):
I like the point that you're making. But with that
being said, you got to try to find players that
because you could say that about any quarterback, right Like
there are.
Speaker 6 (24:27):
Guys that carry teams, there are guys that need to
be carried.
Speaker 7 (24:29):
Hold on, hold on, now, hold on, If we look
at around the league, what elite quarterback is elite without
elite receivers being at least one elite receiver being a
part of what they got going on?
Speaker 3 (24:46):
Well, I give you Patrick Mahomes. That might be the
only one that I'll give you. Who else is there?
Speaker 6 (24:51):
A Josh Allen's been elite and he isn't having up
until they got Cooper, and they.
Speaker 1 (24:55):
Weren't and they's Cooper, they've hardly used him.
Speaker 3 (24:58):
I lost, but he had he he had had he
had Digs, He had an elite receiver. He had Digs.
Speaker 6 (25:07):
Well, Diggs wasn't an elite receiver for the last ten
games of the year last year, where he'd barely even
fifty games.
Speaker 3 (25:13):
Yeah, but he was been elite. He's been elite.
Speaker 1 (25:16):
Well, Pete, let me so. On the subject of Sam
Donald's let's say you're the Raiders and you don't want
to give him that money. What do the Vikings do?
Because I understand that they've got JJ McCarthy. I understand
they traded for Daniel Jones. Are you really going to
take a chance at going away from the success that
you've had, especially if they make a run in the postseason,
just because you've already drafted JJ McCarthy and you're waiting
(25:39):
for him to get healthy.
Speaker 6 (25:41):
Personally, I didn't love JJ McCarthy when he came out,
so I would probably I would tell Sam Donald, look,
this is a great situation for you. We want you back.
We're going to give you the Baker Mayfield plus contract.
You know, give Baker got thirty three million a year,
give him thirty eight and say, look, you want to
stay here, We'll pay you this the great opportunity for
three years. And if he says no, then off he goes,
(26:03):
because I'm not paying him fifty million dollars a year.
Speaker 3 (26:07):
I'm not saying fifty, but I'll say forty. You said
forty five. Now you're going to jump up five more
million dollars. I say this forty five.
Speaker 6 (26:14):
I'm not paying forty five either. I give him the
same damn darnold plums. So you get you gotta assume
for you know, inflation. We know how that is these days.
So you give him thirty seven thirty eight million a year, yes,
you take it. Well, if you don't see it.
Speaker 3 (26:29):
I think that where the market is right now and
the way he's playing, I think somebody out there would
be willing to give him that money, and I think
that they have to. You got to think about it
from that perspective. If Minnesota is willing to let him
walk away, I don't know.
Speaker 6 (26:44):
Okay, let's let's let's let's go through it real quick.
You keep saying somebody's willing to get in the mind.
Speaker 3 (26:48):
It could be the Giant.
Speaker 6 (26:49):
The Jets are going to bring him back.
Speaker 3 (26:50):
There's no way that you No, I don't think. No,
it wouldn't be the Jets, Okay, could be the Giants,
could be the Raiders.
Speaker 6 (26:57):
Well, the Giants are going to draft the quarterback. So
that that's out. They'll have the first pick, so they're
going to drafted quarterback, so they're done.
Speaker 3 (27:03):
I mean, you could still look at what Atlanta just did.
They can still pay a forty million dollar contract till
a quarterback that they think can come in and make
their team better. I don't know that what the Giants
are all had the number one.
Speaker 6 (27:15):
Are var Yes, you can't. You can't draft the quarterback
number one pay a guy forty million.
Speaker 3 (27:22):
Oh that's fair, that's fair. That is fair. I also
think that is fair.
Speaker 1 (27:27):
Look, maybe maybe JJ McCarthy or the Raiders, maybe the
Vikings do decide to keep Sam Darnold and they go
I don't see that, you.
Speaker 6 (27:34):
Know, think and you got to think about this. Think
about it from this standpoint too. Tom Brady's going to
go in you know, the rumors are Tom Brady's going
to go in there and he's going to be the
guy making the football decision.
Speaker 1 (27:43):
Michigan connection.
Speaker 3 (27:44):
Cool, that's right.
Speaker 6 (27:45):
And where did JJ McCarthy go to schools?
Speaker 1 (27:49):
I'm talking about Pete. We just did it, Pete Prisco
and I just solved the Raiders quarterback.
Speaker 3 (27:54):
And Pete is on some weirdo action, like you you
got your point with the number one oh overall pick,
but you're not going to get to in a row
that one does not fly. It's not going to happen McCarthy.
They're not letting McCarthy go. They just invested a top
picking him. They're not letting him what.
Speaker 6 (28:11):
I haven't seen him flying ticket. They invested a top
picking him with the idea that they didn't have a quarterback. Well,
now Donald's a quarterback.
Speaker 3 (28:20):
No, because they already pay. If you're saying that they're
not going to pay Sam Donald, I already got my
quarterback money then, and you're saying it based upon your
logic of they have a court, have a core receiving
corps that would would be you know, good for any quarterback.
Why would you get rid of your draft pick for
a guy that nobody else is actually even willing to
(28:42):
pay for. Like, I don't, I don't see that logic.
Speaker 6 (28:45):
If you think you know this is what he's going
to be in your system, you keep him and let
him continue to grow. You don't.
Speaker 3 (28:50):
But do you know what he's going to be in
your system? I mean he's good this year. It's about
your logic. You don't know what he's going to be.
I'm not arguing with myself. I feel good about by
the way, about that LeVar.
Speaker 6 (29:02):
The LeVar from the last second, last part of this
segment is beating the LeVar right now. So you're all
in one to yourself.
Speaker 3 (29:08):
No way. Bottom line is you're not getting rid of
get yourself. What what draft pick was McCarthy? What number
was nine?
Speaker 6 (29:16):
Yeah, you can trade that.
Speaker 1 (29:18):
No you're not.
Speaker 3 (29:20):
You're not getting rid of a top ten pick. I
think it was like four or something like that, four
or five drafted.
Speaker 6 (29:27):
When they drafted McCarthy in that spot, they didn't know
they had this version of Sam Donald on the roster.
So yes, you can trade it, no way. Here's the
other part of that. They traded a bunch of they
need draft picks too, They traded a bunch of assets.
Remember they traded to go get Dallas Turner, they traded
to get McCarty. They have they need, They have barely
any picks in this draft. So it makes sense if
(29:49):
you believe Sam Donald is your guy, you can trade
JJ McCarthy to a team like the Raiders and get
draft picks to replend.
Speaker 3 (29:57):
So then they're going to pay Sam Donald for million
dollars forty five million.
Speaker 6 (30:02):
I mean if they believe, if they believe that he's
as good as you think he is, then obviously they will.
Speaker 3 (30:09):
No, I don't buy that. I just I don't buy
that at all. I mean, I think they're in an
open market. He does. He commands that that coin after having.
Speaker 1 (30:17):
There's another aspect of it, which is, if you're Sam
Darnold and you've been a journeyman throughout the course of
your career because you haven't found a stable spot, and
now you found it in Minnesota, maybe he would take
a little less to stay in Minnesota than go elsewhere
because he's like, man, this is for the betterment of
my career. Like I've bounced around the Jets, Carolina, et cetera,
(30:38):
the Niners. Now I've got my shot. It's worked out here,
y'all just going to tell him how he might be looking.
Speaker 6 (30:44):
That's the kind of situation it was for Baker Mayfield
last year. And I actually had a conversation with Baker Maye.
I said, don't take the hometown discount, and you know what,
he ended up kind of taking a hometown discount. He
probably could have got some on the more on the
open market. He decided to stay in Tampas because it's
a great situation. He loved the place, he loves the team,
he loves living there, and maybe that's the case with
SAMs Arnold. Would I do it. No, I wouldn't take
(31:06):
your hometown discount. If the hometown discount is a million
dollars a year, then you take the hometown discount. If
the hometown discount is five million, no, you don't take it.
So I think you got to look at it from
that Standpard. I think you're right Jones. I think there's
an opportunity for him to say, I love this situation.
I want to be here. They're going to pay me
thirty five to thirty eight million, thirty nine million, and
(31:26):
I can go get forty two on the open market.
I'm gonna stay here.
Speaker 3 (31:29):
They have a draft pick that is rehabbing and coming
back that I'm testing the market. They test the market
because that's their guy. They drafted him, that's their guy.
I'm testing the market because every single thing you do
is going to be measured and judged. They're not getting
rid of McCarthy. They're going to have McCarthy. So at
(31:50):
the end of the day, and they brought in Edgement.
You mentioned Jonas, they brought in Daniel Jones. What are
deal Daniel Jones? Deal? Hem, You're not gonna deal. Yeah,
you are not going to deal. Pete, We're not going
to deal. McCarthy.
Speaker 1 (32:04):
Pete, what do you think? What do you think they
can get for Daniel Jones if they traded him?
Speaker 6 (32:07):
What do you think the sandwich? Let me ask you this,
Let me ask him. If you're the Minnesota Vikings and
you look at it from this standpoint, are we better
off with Sam Donald and more draft picks by trading
JJ McCarthy than we are by having JJ McCarthy and
letting Sam Donald walk off into the sunset?
Speaker 3 (32:28):
I would say in the short term, it's an easy
answer to say that we're better off with Sam Donald.
And the long term I would say that's way too
that's way too much of a risk, is way And
when would you ever have the opportunity to get a
top ten pick player and Anna McCarthy and and and
I have that like, don't I don't see that making sense?
(32:50):
You're not.
Speaker 6 (32:52):
Here's why it makes sense, LeVar, because they forced the
top ten pick, because they didn't know what they had,
and when you don't have it, you do everything you
can to solve the spot. But that's why from pressure,
and Sam Donald solved their spot as he solved it.
If he's there, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (33:10):
That he solved it. I think they're having a fine year.
I think that he's done an amazing job as the
quarterback of this team. But there was a lot of
pressure on that team to make sure that they had
a quarterback because they let one go that that people
thought they should have paid. So that's why they forced
their salves to get that top ten pick and to
get McCarthy.
Speaker 6 (33:29):
If you if you trade away, yes you might Minnesota.
Speaker 3 (33:36):
No, I did say that. I did not say that.
I think the position that the Minnesota Vikings are in.
If anything, I would pay Sam Donald and keep and
keep McCarthy as a backup until he's ready to play,
like they did with Aaron Rodgers and and Jordan Love
if anything, worst case scenario. But if i'm Sam Donald,
I'm testing the open market because anything that happens, if
(33:59):
I mess up, anything that happens, I'm coming out because
they have a draft pick that's sitting behind me. I'm
testing the open market.
Speaker 6 (34:07):
Arnold's twenty seven years old, so you're gonna keep them
for you gotta keep McCarthy sitting there for three years.
Speaker 3 (34:13):
Yeah, two more years, two three years.
Speaker 6 (34:15):
Yeah, he's gonna be gone now he's going to be
an unrestricted free agent.
Speaker 3 (34:21):
No, he's still be under contract.
Speaker 6 (34:23):
Kay. What if Sam Donald wins the Super Bowl?
Speaker 3 (34:26):
Well, then you think about what you're going to do
with you. Think about what you're gonna do with the
other day Donald.
Speaker 6 (34:32):
If you think Sam Donald is this guy in your
building with your team and your coach, you keep Sam
Donald paying him. Trade JJ McCarthy to somebody, get more out.
Speaker 3 (34:43):
I just told him to take the hometown discount. Right,
You guys are talking out of both sides of your mind.
You're just fine. No, No, you're going out of both
You just said he's not worth that money. On you
just said he's not worth that money.
Speaker 6 (34:55):
Be par two, bar one beat LeVar two, and now
LeVar to scrambling the being more one imagine.
Speaker 3 (35:03):
No, No, I do talk it to myself in the
mirror quite a bit, But no.
Speaker 6 (35:08):
Like that, like why I say a lot of really
good stuff I do too, And.
Speaker 3 (35:12):
You know what, and he agrees with most of everything.
I say, Hey, but listen, I think you are. You
are sabotaging what I'm saying, because the bottom line here
to me is is that if you think that that
Sam Darnold is worth that to your team, then why
are you going to him saying, oh, can you just
take thirty eight? Can you just take thirty seven? Like
you're going to just pay him what the market value
(35:35):
of the position would be. And if you're not going
to pay him that market.
Speaker 6 (35:39):
If you're not market value for him.
Speaker 3 (35:42):
Not if he's winning at the level of somebody who's
look at Dak Prescott, you're not. He's doing better than Dak.
He's doing better than Dak in one year?
Speaker 6 (35:51):
Has he done it more than Dak in one year?
Has he done it for more than one year? Has
been better than Dak for more than that?
Speaker 3 (35:56):
But you don't know what else you have out there.
You let your guy go, You let Kirk Cousins go.
You found the guy in free agency by doing it
with Sam Darnold. No, he hasn't done it as much
as Dak, but maybe he can with the with the
personnel that he has in Minnesota. So why let him
go and if you don't want to let him go,
why not pay him? I don't want to let you go,
(36:16):
but I don't want to pay you.
Speaker 6 (36:18):
But before, before this season, he was his completion percentage
of fifty seven, sixty one, fifty nine, fifty eight, fifty
eight and sixty. I mean, you know, he.
Speaker 3 (36:26):
Did pretty good his last year. What was that Denver
he was at? Where was he at before?
Speaker 6 (36:30):
Again?
Speaker 3 (36:30):
The sad friend. He did something pretty well and.
Speaker 6 (36:35):
He took forty six passes.
Speaker 3 (36:36):
How did he do? He did pretty good?
Speaker 6 (36:39):
Didn't he passes with two touchdowsand and one pick?
Speaker 3 (36:43):
Yeah? I know it's not a large sample size.
Speaker 1 (36:47):
