of makes sense, I guess. I mean, I know Lloyd
Howell like it. It's too great for I don't think
he listens to our show, but.

Speaker 2 (00:49):

Wherever you are making us a part of your Friday
morning on.

Speaker 3 (01:10):
This football Friday, we appreciate it, and we're going to
take you all the way up until nine am Eastern time,
six o'clock Pacific here. And we do have some NFLPA
news because somebody is trying to seek the help of
the NFLPA and they could really really use it at
this point because they lost out on a whole bunch
of cash. Christian Wilkins, who signed a big money contract

(01:33):
last offseason via free agency with the Las Vegas Raiders.
The Raiders released him on Thursday with a designation of
quote terminated vested veteran. Reportedly, they were not happy with
how he handled his rehab from a Jones fracture he
suffered in his foot last season. Thus they are avoiding

(01:53):
the remaining thirty five point two million dollars of guaranteed
money left on his contract. But don't worry. He has
found somebody to help. He has filed a grievance with
the NFLPA, So I'm sure that's going to get taken
care of and that'll go smoothly based on their track record.
So Christian Wilkins is out of a lot of money.

(02:15):
And I don't know when I've last time I've heard
of something like this, but that feels like a significant
amount of cash to be out of because you didn't
rehab the way the team liked it.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
I mean, look, this is becoming more standardized language within
a lot of the contracts. We saw this with Trayvon Diggs, right,
he got what a de escalator in his contract for
not rehabbing with the team. Yeah, so different team, However,
you're seeing still a loss of money in some way.
It leads you back to the whole idea of collusion

(02:47):
with the NFLPA finding this out during Lloyd How's tenure
there and JC Tretter being a part of it since
they're both gone. But you know, no one's really kind
of blown the whistle. Are throwing a flag on this
for what's happening. You know, when you start seeing that
all these teams are putting more standardized language within their contracts,

(03:09):
you have to wonder even a situation like the Cincinnati
Bengals and why they're taking so long to a Shamar
Stewart's side, is this going to be more standardized language?
If the Bengals can do with Shamar Stewart, for every
other team with their rookies moving forward, Like, is every
single agent gonna have to deal with this come the
twenty twenty sixth draft just because the Bengals were able
to get it with one guy. Now it sets a

(03:30):
precedent and every one of these owners meetings, they're looking
at you know, Mike Brown going all right, and I
say what you're able to get done there yet? And
they're like, oh, it looks pretty good, Mike, great job. Yeah,
we're gonna try to do the same thing. I mean,
they're all buddies and they're all they're all talking about
the different changes they're trying to make to protect their dollars.
That's what it's about.

Speaker 3 (03:49):
So what is the Is the NFLPA in any shape
to put up a fight, like to try and get
him his money?

Speaker 1 (03:54):
Then I don't have an executive director right now, so
I would say no. I mean the face of the
face of you know, your organization is in present so
at the current moment, No, They'll find someone, and hopefully
it can be someone who can stand up and go
tot it's oh, you know with Roger Goodell, you know
who represents the owners and they go from there. But

(04:17):
the dynamics of the union and the NFL owners is
always what it's going to be. It's it's the biggest
union in regards to professional players, which makes it really
hard for the players to all band together. And it's
you know, the NFL is the poorest of the professional
sports because the you know, lifetime of the athlete is short,

(04:38):
and it's there's a least amount of guaranteed money, and
a lot of the guys that you're actually creating policy
for are not even in the NFL yet, they're in
college football. I mean, I'll set all along. If the
NFLPA was smart, they would try to go down to
the college level and create another you know union or
try to at least partner with whatever union ends up

(04:58):
coming from all the college football stuff that's changes that
are taking place, and that way, they would at least
have a group of young men who understand exactly what
they're getting into once they get to the NFL level
with a lot of what they were trying to negotiate
and argue for at the college level. Because that day
is rapidly approaching. It's just a matter of when not if.

Speaker 3 (05:17):
I mean thirty five million dollars like he's out of
because they didn't like and Florio had something on it
where he said, you know, it either could be because
of the rehab or conduct detrimental, because I think that
they wanted One of the reports I saw yesterday was
that they wanted him to get another surgery and he
balked at it and I think wanted to take the

(05:40):
rehab approach. They didn't like that, and that's why they
informed him earlier this week that he was being released.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
And now, yeah, I mean I haven't read his contract.
I mean, I know, I think I said this to
you my eighth year, when I was going to training
camp with the Dolphins, I had had back surgery and
you know, I was having complications and issues with drop
foot and things from the surgery. And basically when I
signed that deal to go to training camp with the Dolphins,
you know, my agency was like, we can't recommend you

(06:10):
sign this contract, like this is not a contract that
we would sign up Fross like, well, I want to
get back in there and have a chance to play.
And they sent me a separate letter basically saying like that,
stating that they're not advising me to sign this in
case that I had any you know issues moving forward
playing under that contract, like they would be liable for

(06:30):
it in essence, And the contract stated that basically if
I had any injury that was a result of my back,
which is yeah, after breaking my back, that any injury
that I had as a result of that, you know,
you would not get any sort of payment. They're only
paying for rehab. If you did it with the team facilities,

(06:50):
you only get you know, surgery of all the minute
if it was with their medical staff. I mean, it
was as grimy of a deal as you could sign.
And I remember like contempt playing and sitting in their
players lounge going like this stinks, Like I don't feel
comfortable doing this because I don't feel protected by any means.
But if this is what I have to do to
you know, try to have a chance to keep you know,

(07:11):
continue to keep playing, this is what I'm going to do.
So now, Christian Wilkins is an entirely different position. But
because the monies are so big, I'm sure there was
you know, language within the contract that probably in the
in the event of an injury forced him to go
rehab or maybe get looked at by you know, at
least their doctors. You always have a chance for a
third party opinion. But you know, there might have been

(07:33):
stuff within the within the contract that stated there. Who knows.

Speaker 3 (07:36):
So your agency made you sign a separate deal saying
that they recommended you not sign the other deal.

Speaker 1 (07:43):
Yes, yeah, it would be like you know, for the
parents out there, if if your kid's like, no, I'm
going to this party, Dad's like, okay, all right, all right,
you want to do that? All right? Here, sign this
all right, and if anything happens from this, I just
so you know, I'm taking your car. You're not going
to have any privileges. You're pretty much want to rounded
from the rest of the tide. You're signing this now,
going into it knowing exactly what you're signing up for.

(08:05):
I mean, FIRS and everyone would sign.

Speaker 3 (08:07):
Up for as a sixteen years and yeah, that is
I think that's that's part of the That's what I
think about because I know that you've talked about it before,
but I always think about and yeah, Christian Wilkins is
in a different spot. But in your situation, you were
trying to find a way to get back into the league.
And if you do become one of those players that's

(08:28):
you know, navigating the waters, or you know, there's a
lot of like well known successful free agents that are
still available, like guys out there that are looking for deals,
and we're already a training camp and the options are there,
and they're going to be so limited and the contracts
are probably going to be so unappealing that it's like
you're just gonna have to take it, roll the dice

(08:49):
and bet on yourself and hope you get enough reps
to be able to get something better next year. It's
just it's wild that I don't think a lot of
people think about just sort of the concessions you have
to make just to continue to pursue your career. And look,
if it's bad enough to where they're like, you need
a second surgery, maybe this is the end of the
road for him too, Who knows. I don't know what

(09:10):
the hell a Jones fracture is you're talking about, Liz Frank.

Speaker 1 (09:13):
I don't know what Liz Jones fracture is on the
outside of the foot. It's like one of the small
metatarsals or whatever, and it's problematic, like for me, like
I had the Liz Frank which usually impacts like that
first metatarsal on your big toe. And I know it's
hard for you to see it because you have the
crossover toe thing, so your toes are like overlapped and

(09:33):
all that. But usually when you have a a Liz Frank,
then you start naturally compensating putting weight on the outside
of your foot. So the next thing that comes as
a Jones fracture. So that's why I like when you
hear about players who get like a Liz Frank injury
or a Jones fracture, it's not good because there ends
up being a lot of other issues that come from
it on either that same foot or even like the

(09:55):
other side with how they go about compensating. And these
owners and the medical staffs that are tied to them
all know it, and they'll play the percentages up even
more so whatever, whether it's within the contract or even
when they start looking at these players when they get
to the age of thirty, they're like, oh no, the
body's gonna break down. They're more susceptible all these things.
This is why we're not going to offer you know,
a guy as much money. So that is like Trey Hendrickson,

(10:17):
productive player without a doubt. But are they concerned about
him being able to stay healthy and are they concerned
about him keeping his productivity up because of you know,
you know, having a hard time. You don't stay healthy
of course like that. It's it's the ripe old age.
And that's why every time you see a player turned thirty,
you hear all of us, you know, pundits or whatever
you want to call us, talk about it, because it's
real and it happens within the negotiations.

Speaker 3 (10:40):
All right, So you're gonna feel like a bit of
a horse's ass here because you're more of a Gemini
guy when it comes to AI searching like and that.
And that's fine, I mean, no judging here.

Speaker 1 (10:48):
But wait, are you just really going to try to
correct wrong information?

Speaker 2 (10:53):
You blame Gemini? Really blame Gemini?

Speaker 4 (10:57):
I do.

Speaker 1 (10:58):
Anyway, Why are you bringing this up because you feel
like the need to correct it? No?

Speaker 3 (11:02):
No, no, So I went ahead and I went to
Grock and I typed in, can crossover toe lead to
a Jones fracture for people that weren't listening? An hour one,
I admitted that I have crossover toe, and it led
to Lorraina snapping her toes. Together on air and people
with foot fetishes.

Speaker 1 (11:21):
Throw out your ig handle real quick. Some people don't
want to see that on Thistac.

Speaker 3 (11:24):
Go ahead, Lorena, come on Radiomouth dot ray yeah r E,
I right, yeah yeah.

Speaker 2 (11:31):
By the time you get through radio Mouth, it's just there. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (11:34):
So can crossover toe lead to a Jones fracture? From Grock? Yes,
a crossover dow can potentially can contribute to a Jones fracture,
though it's not a direct cause. A crossover toe where
one toe off in the second crosses over the adjacent
toe due to deformity, Jesus or instability can alter foot

(11:56):
mechanics and weight distribution. So I'm susceptible to the owns
fracture as well too. So put that in your foot
fracture pipe and smoke a pal. Who know a radio
host can have such a tough life.

Speaker 1 (12:09):
Did you put that in your contract with Scottish Scott? Hey, Scott,
I need some injury protection.

Speaker 3 (12:15):
Across over and and I'll go to the to the
f S r p A if I have to to
try and get something done.

Speaker 2 (12:20):
Like you're talking about.

Speaker 1 (12:22):
President, I'm voting Ben Mallard to the president.

Speaker 2 (12:25):
Yeah, it's Ben the Ben's the president of the f
s r p A.

Speaker 1 (12:28):
That's where my vote is.

Speaker 2 (12:30):
He's the one we want representing us.

Speaker 3 (12:33):
This could not come it at a worse time for
for Christian Wilkins, correct, Like.

Speaker 1 (12:39):
Yeah, this is.

Speaker 3 (12:42):
Who's he running up to the latter too, like who's
who's he taking this to to be? Like hey, can
I get some of my money back? Like okay, buddy,
Like good luck with that.

Speaker 1 (12:51):
Well, he'll have a separate, you know, set of teams
and and uh, you know lawyer that's going to take
care of it, so he'll be fine. I mean that's
I mean again, I don't want to get down a
long winded path here talking about this, but that's one
That's one of the things is like that the PA
is there to protect you, you know, from a union standpoint,
for all players, but you know, individually you're still going

(13:11):
to be able to file and have an attorney help
you out. So it's not as big of a deal
that there's not you know, executive director yet, but it
would it would be helpful. I mean, this is a
big deal. You'd like to draw a little attention to this.

Speaker 3 (13:24):
And now when you say you don't want to go
down a long winded path to get there. Was that
a shot at LeVar or was.

Speaker 1 (13:29):
That just no no no no no no no. Well,
and Lorena thinks I talk as long as LeVar, which
is it can't be possible. Yeah, but no, really, it's
it's more about, like, I'm not a union guy. Like
you pay you know ten fifteen twenty thousand, I don't
know what the number is now every single player of
the league pays that and it goes in for your

(13:51):
union dues, and it pays for all the operations of
the union. And like, I'm not a guy who is
going to use a lot of those benefits outside of
like what happens posts or et cetera. A lot of
that stuff you can set up for yourself, you know,
a lot of that stuff that you get, like you
can set up within your own you know, to have
for your you know, after retirement. Now some of the

(14:13):
stuff you can't. And so it's they're good benefits, but
most like a lot of it you can. And also
like I'm you know, giving away fifteen twenty thousand and four,
you know, legal protections or things that you know, oftentimes
they're a union. I'm not really gonna use so and
I also like there's a group licensing deals, so you
know you're sharing some of that revenue as well, which
is nice because if you're not that guy, you get

(14:34):
some of it, but if you are that guy, you're
not gonna get as much as you could in some ways.
So again it's a long winded conversation. But I've never
been a huge like union guy.

Speaker 3 (14:43):
Well I do know this, Uh, you're gonna get that
work come up here soon because we do something on
this show.

Speaker 2 (14:49):
I think it was, oh was it happening?

Speaker 1 (14:51):
Why actually doing this?

Speaker 3 (14:52):
So I think that it was exactly a year ago today,
which is kind of strange, but exactly a year ago
today that we did the last edition of Headliner Lye.
All right, for those of you that listened to Brady
Quinn and I when we were dominating Sunday nights here
on FSR, we had a segment called Headliner Lye put
together headlines and it was either an actual headline or

(15:14):
it was completely made up. Thus Headliner lie and we
would go to the calls and we'd have two participants
who would team up with either me or Brady and
we would try and stump the other guy's partner on
the air. What was great about Sunday nights is majority
of the time everybody was half in the bag, I
mean butchered. We had people calling. Remember the guy from

(15:35):
Australia who called We're pretty sure, pretty sure this guy
ran over a wombat while he was on the phone
with us.

Speaker 1 (15:42):
We also asked him like way to make questions about
Foster's beer, which he did not co sign. Now, yeah,
we don't drink Fastest. We hate falest.

Speaker 2 (15:51):
Oh no, no, no, on drinks.

Speaker 3 (15:55):
Right, So we did this on this I mean we
had guys call on East during one night, there was
a couple of guys from Ohio called on an Easter
and one guy this was in the middle of the pandemic,
and one guy had no idea who Anthony Fauci was,
and upon further review, he was on the right side
of all that. So so it's uh. I think he

(16:16):
was quoted as saying, I'm not really sure who this
Fauci character as you're.

Speaker 2 (16:20):
Referring to, ever heard of them?

Speaker 3 (16:24):
And then the other guy that was on the phone
from Ohio opened up his phone call and said he
is risen and he had been drinking all day so
it was quite the wild time on Sunday nights. Now, people,
we are driving to work, so we don't expect you
to be hammered unless I mean.

Speaker 1 (16:43):
It's not the worst thing in the world. If you
took today off it is Friday.

Speaker 3 (16:46):

(32:47):
So Jared verse of The, rams he Challenged Aaron, donald you,
know to work. OUT i think it was just kind
of busting his balls Because verse strikes me as one
of those guys who just likes, to you, know stir
it up a little. Bit he did it with The
eagles fans last year before the playoff. Game it's kind
of that's his, thing and so he wanted, to you,

(33:08):
know he tried to stir it up a little bit
With Aaron donald about getting a workout in and at
training camp with The, rams he spoke about how that
workout went with the Retired Aaron.

Speaker 6 (33:19):
Donald i'm, thinking we got like an hour WORK i
got plans, UP i got THINGS i gotta do that
throughout the, day, PLAY i watch a film and everything like.

Speaker 1 (33:24):
That we show.

Speaker 6 (33:25):
Up he doesn't say hi and nothing like.

Speaker 1 (33:27):
That he sees.

Speaker 6 (33:27):
It he's, like come, on.

Speaker 1 (33:28):
He's a little tap.

Speaker 6 (33:29):
Up we walk inside BECAUSE i. Stretch how you have
TO i.

Speaker 1 (33:31):
Stretch we.

Speaker 6 (33:32):
Do everything he does is like a. Circuit we do four.
Workouts it's all cardio. Versus the climbing bike was a
lunches and corps four rounds.

Speaker 1 (33:41):
Each you do all, That you're like you already.

Speaker 2 (33:43):
Tied you kind of, like oh my.

Speaker 3 (33:44):
God.

Speaker 6 (33:45):
Whatever then you do for sets a core two different like.
Workouts so it's like eight different workouts for sets. Each
you do all that for four. Sets you go through.
It he's, like are you eight for the REAL workoutm,
like But i've been here for forty five.

Speaker 2 (33:55):
Minutes what you're talking.

Speaker 1 (33:56):
About we go to the weight.

Speaker 6 (33:57):
Room it's all. On that's why he's big as. Hell
we go to the weight. Room it's like eight different
sun kits orange four cents. Each i'm there for an
hour and a. Half his wife came in laughing at.
ME i told her to call the. Police i'm. Dancing
IF i told her to call the, police she wouldn't do.
IT i, say my mom was at my house and
had to go let her. In he told me to

(34:18):
get my keystads like like his management or assistant or.
Something they don't let my mom, In SO i wasn't
leaving fans to work. Out i'm like, Tired i'm. EXHAUSTED
i had a plan, to, like you, know go do
come into sauna. Afterwards didn't. HAPPEN i have plans to watch.

Speaker 1 (34:31):
Film didn't.

Speaker 6 (34:31):
HAPPEN i went home AND i didn't work out for
like another like day and a half BECAUSE i couldn't
move my.

Speaker 3 (34:35):
Body so that Was Jared verse talking about his time
spent working out with the Retired Aaron. Donald, Dude Aaron
donald's a. Maniac, yeah he guy's a freak.

Speaker 1 (34:46):
SHOW i, mean you could see why he was so
successful as a player if that's the work ethic behind, it, too.
RIGHT i mean he physically was not the most imposing
figure in regards to like his his height and like
mass or, size BUT i mean that he. Was he's
got like a six pack for a guy who's two
hundred and eighty ninety pounds whatever he, WAS i, mean
he was absolutely.

Speaker 3 (35:06):
Checked you talk about somebody who retired on his terms
and not and the and the game didn't retire him
like he he was still the best at his position
at the. Time he, retired still like the best at
his position in the entire, league and decided to call
it a call it a. Day just, See i'm good,
HERE i got My Super.

Speaker 2 (35:25):
Bowl i'm. GOOD i don't want to go through it.

Speaker 3 (35:27):
Anymore and got out of the. League and a lot
of guys maybe either hang on for too long a,
league even like you, know the all time, greats like
you can make the, argument, yeah well Maybe Tom brady
was showing signs of age as he you, know decided
to walk. Away And donald was, like, No i'm. Good,
Look i'm. Good i'm the best player at my. Position
and if he wanted to come back right, Now sean
mcvagh And lesnie would make it.

Speaker 1 (35:47):
Happen oh D i'm sure there's a lot of, teams
by the, way who WOULD i, mean, yeah they'd make it.
Happen but there's a lot of teams wh would probably
gladly take him back and let him. Play and maybe
maybe there's something to, that you, know taking a year
off or. Something but he strikes me is the type
that he wants to be out there every single. Week
he wants to be in that fight every single. Week
but you, KNOW i think the way he, PLAYED i,
mean he played so hard every play and he's getting

(36:11):
double teamed and at, times you, know famously triple teamed
where you got all guys trying to just make sure
he doesn't ruin the. PLAY i, mean that's what he was.
Like he's the type of guy when you were game,
planning every single thing you would do would revolve around
what's your plan For Aaron? Donald like any run, play
whether it's at him or away from, him it's how

(36:33):
we Handling Aaron, donald pass, protection how we Handling Aaron?
Donald you, know wherever he's. At, oftentimes when you have
a guy who's that, good your protection will well like
will be based on and how you come out in
your formation of where you think he's going to. Be
and if he's not where you think he's going to
be as a, quarterback you're changing it to get someone
over there to be able to help, out or you're

(36:55):
you're changing the direction of the line's going to make
sure there's an extra offensive lineman going to help. OUT
I mean there's even times where you know they call
it a they're like a bear front where you cover
up the center in both, guards you, know with a.
Defender once you cover those guys, up oftentimes you know
teams will almost have to go to what they call five,
oh where it would be like they'll just take the

(37:17):
man across from. Them, well defenses do this all the
time because then you can get, mismatches, right you can
put you, know certain guys over certain you know guys
on the offensive, front and it's it's not an advantageous
matchup for the offensive. Line so it makes it harder
when you show that sort of. Front, well the interesting thing,
is you, know with, him you would still either get
out of that five, oh which you'd normally go, to

(37:39):
or you just find other unique ways of trying to
dial up your pass protection to protect against them so
you could avoid. That so he was a game changing type.
Player and, YEAH i think if anyone asked him right,
now hey you want to come join our team gonna
try to go win a, RING i think they take
him a. HEARTBEAT i think there'd be teams. Clows i'm

(37:59):
sure he gets calls all the, Time Hey, aaron are
you sure you're? Done you're sure you're? Done? Man like,
sure you? Know is one more? Year one more run
of this?

Speaker 3 (38:05):
THING i mean he's only thirty four years. Old he
just turned thirty four In. May and if you just
go look at his. Credentials the only year he wasn't
a first Team All pro was second to last year
because he was, Injured like he dealt with the injury
and he missed a few. Games but other than, that
and he still made The Pro bowl that. Year but
other than, that first Team All pro every single year

(38:26):
of his, career Ten Pro. Bowls he's got His Super,
bowl he's got His Defensive player of The year three,
times he Won Defensive player of The, year and all
of that for an interior, alignment as you, mentioned who
was considered, undersized you know for the. Position just that's a,
crazy crazy run in his career and just Decided i'm good,

(38:47):
Man i'm. Good i'm gonna get out WELL i can
still you, know move around and be. Active and then
he's Got jared vers a guy in his, prime and
he brings him in for a workout and just blows through.
Him he, also you got to appreciate the fact that
he's still got that meat head in. Him it didn't
he didn't walk away from the game and forget.

Speaker 2 (39:02):
About who he. Was he's got that meeting's two years.

Speaker 1 (39:05):
Removed he still got. It like that's the, Thing like
some guys will do it for like a year or.
Something two years remove, me he's still doing.

Speaker 2 (39:10):
It that's.

Speaker 3 (39:13):
WHY i, mean you see the story out Of Tampa
bay where they're talking to where they're trying to Get desmond. Watching,
Yeah Desmond, watson, who by the, WAY i almost called The.
Sean they're trying to Get Desmond watson down to uh
big tell, proper.

Speaker 2 (39:27):
To a proper playing at least four.

Speaker 1 (39:29):
Hundred it was four and sixty four pounds At florida
The bucks drafted. Him he's now down to four hundred
and fifty, pounds but he's on the non football injury
list because they needed to lose more.

Speaker 3 (39:39):
Weight all, Right so what would be the desired weight
for somebody like? That, like, like how much are we talking?

Speaker 1 (39:45):
ABOUT i don't know. That that's What i'm kind of curious.
About they put him on the non football injury. List it's,
like you drafted, him you knew he was, Massive like
did you not draft him to be?

Speaker 3 (39:53):
Massive he's, like, HEY i lost, weight let's get on
the scales at he's four, Nine, like, oh Cry instruman
and uh, so uh you, know Hopefully i'll be back out,
there but uh but he could be fun to Watch.

Speaker 1 (40:05):
Man he is.

Speaker 2 (40:06):
Huge that's a big.

Speaker 1 (40:07):
Dude that's a huge.

Speaker 2 (40:09):
Bit damn the way to close.

Speaker 4 (40:11):
