So we were recapping to open up the show. Monday
Night football just part for the course with the Chicago Bears,
who at least they got the stadium ready. At least
they got the field conditions were nice, nice and pleasant
(02:19):
for everybody there complaints before the game about the playing surface.
Kevin Warren, the team president, released some novel on Instagram
talking about this new stadium that they're going to be
building in Arlington Heights. Which how long.
Speaker 5 (02:35):
Has this been?
Speaker 7 (02:36):
They've been kicking this one around for like two years,
two three years? Yeah, so you know that's that's sort
of the state of the organization, state of the franchise
right now following last night's performance. So you guys have
played there, I've never been on the field a soldier field.
So is this always just been a cowpit that they.
Speaker 8 (02:59):
Their field has been the worst conditions of any grass
field in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
It's always been that way.
Speaker 8 (03:07):
I don't know the reasons why I never played there
as far as like being a player, but I know
as an away team.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
That it's a cow pastures.
Speaker 8 (03:17):
It's not it's not a good field, and it shouldn't
be up to NFL standards, But somehow every single year
they say it is. It is not a good field,
it's not a good surface.
Speaker 6 (03:29):
I don't remember. I don't recall it, but you know,
I'll defer to Q on this one. I just I
don't I don't recall the field conditions.
Speaker 5 (03:40):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (03:41):
I just remember how inclement the weather conditions were, and
that it was freezing and it.
Speaker 5 (03:47):
Was the last game of the year, and.
Speaker 6 (03:52):
I just couldn't wait to get a hot shower once
I knew we were going to lose the game and
the game was almost over, and I was like, yeah, yeah,
here we go hot shower and the showers were cold,
I mean crazy cold. And there you had the dilemma
of do you go on the bus and the plane
smelling funky of a football game because the water was
(04:14):
too cold, or do you you know, do you rough
it and clean yourself and make sure that you're clean
for the flight home.
Speaker 5 (04:22):
So I chose to get another to the cold water.
Speaker 6 (04:25):
You know, me being who I am and culturally speaking,
that isn't something that I would want to do, be
super super ridiculously cold and cold water. But I did it.
I made it through and got out of there. But
I don't really recall the field condition.
Speaker 7 (04:41):
You know, you're ahead of your time. You know a
lot everyone's doing cold plunges. Now you're ahead of your
time doing cold showers.
Speaker 6 (04:46):
Well, I was not because I didn't want to do that.
Speaker 7 (04:53):
Yeah that was that Lorena?
Speaker 2 (05:01):
Who was that?
Speaker 7 (05:02):
It's a drop damn.
Speaker 5 (05:07):
Well.
Speaker 7 (05:08):
You know, by the way, did you see the Tyler
Dunn report that was out He wrote a long column
about the dysfunction with the Bears last year. Well, I
think it just came out recently. He had more details.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
On it was in guards to last year.
Speaker 7 (05:26):
Though, Yeah, and I guess the Ryan polls the GM
didn't even entertain the idea of taking any other quarterback
when they had the number one pick, Like they invited
Jayden Daniels in for a top thirty visit, but Jade
and Daniels people kind of figured, listen, they're just going
through the motions and not really into this. So everyone
(05:47):
knew he was going to take Caleb Williams. They didn't
even consider They didn't even really do a deep dive
on any of the other prospects.
Speaker 5 (05:54):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (05:54):
There was a report that people there believed that Caleb
Williams is dyslexic, and Ryan Poles knew that and just
disregarded it. Just all like it just feels like there's
more and more and more that you look back on it,
you go, all right, what direction is everybody heading in?
And yet none of it matters?
Speaker 5 (06:15):
But is that true?
Speaker 7 (06:17):
There's a lot of a lot of people inside the
building from a year ago.
Speaker 5 (06:23):
Could that be considered could that be considered to be slander?
Speaker 9 (06:27):
Like?
Speaker 6 (06:27):
Could could Caleb Williams take action against people putting that
out there on him? I mean, whether it's true or not,
wouldn't that be his business? To divulge, yeah, versus somebody
else using it the way like I feel like the
way you just said it, it was it's weaponized, you know,
(06:49):
like there's nothing wrong with having a disability, you know
what I mean. So I'm just curious, like if that's
what's coming out, Like, isn't that like isn't that very
very low class? Isn't that whoever's releasing that information or
saying that, like that's real bush league man?
Speaker 7 (07:08):
And also none of it actually matters because you're stuck
with him, like you decided to draft Kayleb Williams, Ryan
Poles just got a contract extension. If Ben Johnson can't
get this thing turned around, then there's going to be
massive turnover again. It just it feels like to go
back and look at what they should have done or
(07:28):
the process. I'm not sure why it came out now,
but you know that's been taking place the last forty.
Speaker 6 (07:35):
Yes, sad man, it's such an age old thing that
like downgrade the player, always find a way to downgrade
the player to justify something. But go ahead, Q, I'm
curious to hear what you have to say about this.
Speaker 8 (07:47):
I mean, I really don't have anything on this that's
obviously something that like if he is dyslexic, whatever, Like.
Speaker 2 (07:55):
Whether the bears know or not, they made the decision.
What does it matter.
Speaker 8 (07:58):
I don't think that reading a defense involves uh matters
if you're just lexic. So yeah, I mean you're not
reading a defense. So I mean I had I'll be
more concerned. I'll be more concerned he's color blind. If
he's color blind, I can't tell who the hell is, right, Jerseys,
that's where the concerned. Yeah, I don't care if he's dyslexic.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
I'm good.
Speaker 7 (08:23):
He throws he throws the pick six and he starts celebrating.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
Yeah, does you know what?
Speaker 1 (08:28):
You know?
Speaker 2 (08:28):
Which way? Does he know which direction we're going? Okay,
that's all I care about.
Speaker 5 (08:33):
Backwards and throwing the ball backwards?
Speaker 1 (08:37):
What?
Speaker 8 (08:37):
Yeah, I don't care. This is the kind of stuff that. Look,
I don't have control of this part of the rundown.
I want to I want to make that very clear. Okay,
very clear.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
I don't. I don't try.
Speaker 5 (08:48):
I don't have any control over the rundown, y'all. Just
so y'all know, I just let them do it.
Speaker 2 (08:53):
Just just don't try to get into this much Bear's talk.
All right. I know they're playing on Monday Night football, and.
Speaker 6 (08:58):
You know what, cue that is a great point that
Jon has led off the third hour talking about the beer.
But they did play last night, so I will say that.
But man, we're talking about Phil.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
And the Vikings won though, but we're still talking about
the Bears.
Speaker 6 (09:12):
Well let me so, let me we're talking about Phil conditions.
Caleb can't read. I mean, he's reading backwards.
Speaker 7 (09:18):
I mean, so let me walk you guys through that,
like how to do radio? All right, so what so
what you do is you open up with the lead
from the previous day. That lead would be Monday Night Football,
and for the new audience, you reset and find another
angle in our three.
Speaker 5 (09:37):
So wasn't the Vikings? Why wasn't it the Vikings though?
Speaker 7 (09:41):
Well, because we spent the first portion of the year.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
We really did the Viking. We spent a lot of
time talking about about that Johnson's decision we did to
not kick it out of the end.
Speaker 7 (09:49):
We talked about Kevin O'Connell and JJ McCarthy.
Speaker 8 (09:52):
And a little bit a little bit actually, in fact,
I'm the one who talked about that. You didn't say anything,
but did going back to going back to the original conversation.
I do think it's interesting, like people are ragging on
Ben Jhonson, like this is part of coaching, like and
(10:13):
it's kind of like parenting. You know, Parenting's funny because
you know, we've got a lot of kids, and so
people will be like, how do you, like, what do
you do when you have all five and you're by yourself.
I'm like, I literally put them all in a situation
where they can't die, they can't choke. It's harder for
them to hurt themselves, right, you kind of take out
like the opportunity for something terrible to happen. That's kind
(10:37):
of how I guess you could look at the Ben
Johnson decision to not try to have him kick it
out of the end zone, because if you have any
concerns that Kyra Santo's is not going to kick it
out of the end zone and they're going to return it,
then yes, you should just have them blow it out
the side of the sideline and then the balls at
the forty instead of the thirty five. Like, but I
(10:59):
obviously feel like Ben Johnson's a new coach, probably wants
to believe in his players, that Hey, Cairo gokick this,
go kick us out of the end zone. Okay, coach,
I'll do it. Then it doesn't happen, So it's a
learning lesson. Like my guess is, the next time this
scenario presents itself, he's not going to have him try
to kick it out of the back of the end
zone because of what happened last night. So that's I mean, look,
(11:23):
that's the biggest story of all this, not that it
would really would have mattered, Like we're anticipating that Chicago
would have been able to get the ball back and
kick a field goal to tie, but like that's where
we're at with all this.
Speaker 6 (11:35):
Right, I'm gonna say this and then I'm done with
this whole Chicago thing.
Speaker 5 (11:41):
It was not a bad loss. And I know you're
not supposed to.
Speaker 6 (11:45):
Say there's such thing as a good loss and a
bad loss, But if there were a world that existed
where you could say there's a good loss and then
there's a bad loss, this was not a bad loss
for the Chicago Bears.
Speaker 5 (12:02):
It was not. I in my estimation, they played very
well early.
Speaker 6 (12:08):
They they built a lead, and they looked like a
team that could be competitive. Now what happened next in
the second half of that game can be up for debate,
and it can be put at the toes and the
feet one hundred percent of a lot of different people
outside of just Caleb Williams and for what it's worth,
(12:32):
even Ben Johnson. But the reality of it is is
that the Minnesota Vikings found a way to persevere. And
that's why we watched the games. That's why we get
excited about watching sport. They found a way to get
through it. They weathered the storm, they came back, they
won the game, and it came down to us having
(12:53):
a conversation about if a ball went out of the
end zone or not and gave maybe them the opportunity
to stop them, because by the way, they still had
to stop them four times, three times probably maybe four
depending on what happens, and get the ball back and
hope that everything goes the right way for them to
(13:14):
have an opportunity to win the game. For that to
be the conversation point. That's a win that they did
not look bad. This was not a game where it's like,
oh my gosh, Caleb looks horrible. Oh the offense looks horrible.
This defense, oh my gosh, they look horrible. I didn't
come away from the game feeling that way, So there
(13:36):
are positives to take away. It's just easy to rag
on the Bears and how things go because they're the Bears,
So you know, I don't. I just think my final
say on it is it wasn't a bad loss. There's
no reason to panic. They're going to be the team
that finishes last in the division. But with that being said,
(13:57):
I think they are going to take a tremendous step forward.
They just happened to be in a division where there's
three really good teams that are on top of them.
Speaker 5 (14:05):
My spike, my old spie.
Speaker 2 (14:08):
You mentioned teams that won.
Speaker 7 (14:12):
One of those was the forty nine Ers over the weekend,
and unfortunately they got some problems. George Kittle's going to
miss multiple weeks. He's got a hamstring issue. And now
brock purty status for week two is up in the
air because he's got toe and shoulder injuries and that sucks,
but it also means if brock Purty can't go, little
(14:33):
Mac Jones time. Little Mac Jones and Kyle Shanahan's system
just spelling some relief there. This was the guy that
reportedly Kyle Shanahan wanted to draft, but it was John
Lynch who wanted Trey Lance back in the day. So
it looks like we might get our chance to see
mac Jones if in fact brock Purty can't go. And
(14:54):
while the conversation was about Christian McCaffrey and his health
going into week one, now they're going to be with
George Kittle and it's already one week end of the
season and the Niners are dealing with bad injury luck
again just like last year.
Speaker 5 (15:08):
Gok you, I mean, I want me to take it.
Speaker 2 (15:13):
It's a little early for this.
Speaker 8 (15:15):
It was a concern of mining coming into it. I mean, look,
they got the win this past week, so I mean, look,
every NFL team is kind of surviving, getting through injuries,
getting through guys that are banged up. It's still early
in the week, so we see what next week. You know,
this Week two game looks like, but you know, everyone's
battling something like this.
Speaker 2 (15:35):
You know.
Speaker 8 (15:36):
The unfortunate part is something feels different about this year's team.
You know, watching San Francisco in Week one, I just
I wonder if they're out their ceiling, Like I wonder
if we've seen them get as far as they gotta go.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
Now that being said, I think I.
Speaker 8 (15:48):
Had them going to the NFC Championship game, so take
that for what it's worth. But watching them, I wasn't
like overly like wowed, if you will, Like comparing them
to some of the like Green Bay, I was like, okay,
like that's that's a team that's going to compete Philly,
same thing. You know, I didn't get that sense watching
(16:10):
San Francisco. You know, well, we'll see if that changes,
but you know everyone's going to be banged up here shortly.
Just give it a give a couple more weeks and
everyone's gonna be an injury report.
Speaker 6 (16:21):
Mac, you'll already know where I'm going with it. Well,
I've already said I'm not high on the Niners.
Speaker 7 (16:28):
I'm not high on I was trying to tell I
was trying to tell LeVar that the Niners had peaked,
They'd reached their ceiling.
Speaker 6 (16:33):
Yeah, that's that's he That's exactly what I told you guys.
Speaker 7 (16:35):
He didn't want to believe me. I was trying to
fast that.
Speaker 5 (16:38):
I told you guys.
Speaker 6 (16:39):
Coming into it, I couldn't understand why people are so
high on San Francisco, I just I don't I did
not understand it, and I still don't understand why people
have been so high on the forty nine ers. I
just I just I don't get it. From what I'm
looking at, I don't see a team that can be
(17:00):
very competitive, and it kind of played out on Sunday again.
I will keep my thing consistent. As Q mentioned, it
is week one. I'm not going I'm not gonna know
get carried away because I've already said what I've said
about this team. But if they're going to have the
opportunity of, you know, showing that I was incorrect or
(17:23):
proving that they're a team that can go pretty far
or contend for the NFC West, look, I look at
it like this Arizona didn't look like world world beaters,
and that's who I have winning the division. Can Matt
Stafford's back stay in in alignment and stay good enough
(17:46):
for him to be upright make it through the season,
because that's the other one that I have ahead of
San fran And I don't think Seattle is going to
be good. I feel like Seattle's going to finish last
I felt like I feel like San Francisco is going
to be the third team, and that that Arizona and
the Rams are going to battle it out for the West.
(18:07):
If if Puka Nakua can stay healthy, if Matthew Stafford
can stay healthy enough, I believe they're the pole position
to win. They're the ones to look at coming out
of the NFC West. But if that's not the case,
I really believe that it is the Arizona Cardinals. That's
I believe that. And with that being said, I just
(18:30):
don't believe, with all things given that San fran can
end up being good enough to be a top of
both those teams in the NFC West now, and let
alone even make the playoffs. I don't even know that
this is a playoff team, to be honest.
Speaker 7 (18:45):

All right, So right now, it is the show debut
for a celebrity. This is a man that you see
all weekend long on Fox during the football season. He
is the Great Dean Blandino, Fox Sports, NFL and college
football rules analysts. You can get him on x at
(20:56):
Dean Blandino. Dean, thanks so much for joining the show.
Speaker 5 (20:59):
Man.
Speaker 2 (21:00):
It's going to be fun.
Speaker 9 (21:01):
Yeah, this is going to be a lot of fun.
Sea less selest celebrity. I kind of feel like I'm
somewhere in that range.
Speaker 2 (21:07):
Yeah, right, don't say that, dude, don't say.
Speaker 5 (21:09):
That controller is famous.
Speaker 9 (21:13):
You know the what was it yeah, right, the XBOXX.
Speaker 5 (21:18):
Xbox Yeah, there you go, to Xbox controller.
Speaker 2 (21:20):
There you go, Dean.
Speaker 8 (21:22):
I want to lead off with all what I think
everyone's like wants to know, is what exactly happened that
Dallas Cowboys does.
Speaker 9 (21:30):
Well, you know, there wasn't. There was a lot of spitting.
You know, I'm just just saying, I don't know. It's
it's it's crazy, kind.
Speaker 2 (21:40):
Of like dak is what you're saying. I get you.
Speaker 9 (21:41):
Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 8 (21:45):
I guess I'll seriously segue into that. In your mind,
did it warrant a suspension or she? Excuse me, an
ejection because I felt like the ref really didn't know
the full deal of what was going on there.
Speaker 3 (22:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (22:01):
You know, at least in my experience, there's really been
three automatics in terms of ejections, and it's it's like
something involvement with like out you know, non football, right fighting,
you punch somebody, kick somebody, stomp, you know that type
of thing. Intentional contact with an official and spitting. It's
(22:21):
just always been and the officials have the leeway. The
rulebook talks about personal fouls and all that and fifteen
yard penalties, but if it's flagrant. It can be an ejection.
And then spitting has always been when you talk about
on sportsmanlike considered flagrant because you just somebody spits on you.
That's like utmost disrespect. And what happens after that they're
(22:43):
kind of you know, it escalates. So you know the official, Yeah,
you can get into did Dak instigate it? That whole deal,
but I think in a vacuum, there's no quot Look,
Jaalen Carter spit on back. Official saw it. It's pretty
pretty standard procedure at that point that he's got.
Speaker 7 (22:59):
To go, what's the worst you've seen that you've witnessed?
Like this is I can't believe I just watched that.
Speaker 9 (23:06):
Oh I don't, you know. It's yeah, I remember some
of those like the one. It wasn't the worst, but
I remember Steelers spangles playoffs when with Joey Porter getting
in the getting in the huddle, and then there was
a whole big thing, you know, uh, you know, we
(23:27):
we had this who was great by the way, but
we had Endomik and Sue come in. You know, remember
he had a little thing, you know, he had maybe
a little little little temper issue, but he was you know,
stomping on guys. And he actually came into the league
office and we met and I went through the plays
and he was so like, you have thoughtful and went
(23:49):
through it all and and it was just like, this
is the guy that's out there, you know, killing people.
But you know there's been some over the years, but
you know before my time. I mean, there's always the
famous one. And uh who was at Green Bay when
he when he got the quarterback? Who wasn't.
Speaker 5 (24:08):
League man?
Speaker 9 (24:09):
That's right then? He just I mean that that happened today.
Could you imagine what the suspension would be.
Speaker 6 (24:15):
Yeah, that's right, And that's pretty interesting to think about.
Let me ask you you this, Dean, I mean, coming
into this weekend, this week's uh round of games. Obviously
you know the Eagles played before the weekend, but the
touch push is still legal. It's still able to be
(24:37):
used and was used and it was used by multiple teams,
which I found to be very interesting. What what was
your stance on it and what's your take on do
you think that this is since it got shot down
to not be removed this past offseason? Is it is
it just a play that's here to stay or do
you see it becoming more of a safety issue. Haven't
(24:58):
seen any or heard of any real major injuries taking place.
But what what's your stance on it?
Speaker 9 (25:04):
Yeah, I mean, person, I don't love the play. Just
there's so many it's it's a hard play to officiate.
You know, you see that, it's just so many bodies
you're trying to find the ball. I don't think it
necessarily legles do it. Great, great for them, it's within
the rules. But this, this had been illegal forever, you know,
prior to you know, early early two thousands. I mean
(25:28):
that that was two thousand and five, two thousand and six,
it had been illegal because it's just you think about
think about from a defensive side of the ball, right,
if you if you if you hit the hit the
running back and you stack them up and you drive
him backward, right, you're not gonna you're not gonna lose.
They're not gonna lose all those yards, right, You're gonna
get forward progress. But on the offensive side, we're gonna, okay,
(25:49):
we're gonna allow the offense to gain that advantage and
push them maybe three four five yards whatever it is.
So I don't love the play. I don't think look
there's no injury data that says that it's a more
dangerous than other short yardage plays. I do know the
health and safety people at the league office don't love it,
and they kind of feel like there is there is
a risk for for head and neck injuries and other
(26:11):
things like that. I think at this point it's gonna
probably two things. Maybe if the ego don't win a
Super Bowl, then there were I know there were a
lot of teams that didn't want to vote it out
last year because it would have felt like sour grapes.
You know, they're really good at it. They won the
Super Bowl. I think if there's a if there's a
you know, knock on wood. Hopefully there isn't, but if
there's like a catastrophic injury, I think that it'll come
(26:34):
up again. I think the conversation, well, we'll we'll kick
up again and they'll start talking about it.
Speaker 5 (26:39):
Well.
Speaker 8 (26:39):
And that's like my issue with it is it feels
like the NFL is always reactionary and instead of you know,
being proactive about like getting rid of something that it
looks like a rugby play, Like, let's be honest, and
if you look at the injuries that occurrent rugby. It's
mostly neck injuries. People think that because they don't wear helmets.
(26:59):
There like a lot of head injuries. It's mostly neck
because of the way you know that they then do
in those scrums, the way they use their body. You know,
they don't put their head into a tackle oftentimes because
you know of again not having helmets to do so,
so it ends up being the neck that takes the
front of it. I want to transition though to the
kickoff rule because we've seen a huge uptick in kickoff returns,
(27:24):
so clearly, you know, giving a team of the ball
in the thirty five is having its impact. But they
when they made this change, did they ever look at
just saying let's just move back the kicker to kick.
Speaker 2 (27:36):
Off the ball.
Speaker 9 (27:38):
Yeah, they did. They looked at two things. So I
think year one they didn't know what it was going to.
You know, what the numbers were going to be, where's
the drive start going to go to, how's it going
to impact scoring? And then most importantly, what did the
injury gad They're going to look like it was all positive? Right,
scoring was up right, The drive start went from like
the twenty five to almost the thirty touchdowns were field
(28:00):
goals were points per game, points per drive. That was
all up, and the injury data was it was the lowest,
But twenty twenty four was the fewest concussions they've had,
you know, ever that you know, in recent memories, since
they've been really recording them the way they're doing now.
So they said, okay, we're going to make it permanent
and let's let's increase the returns. So with the two things,
(28:21):
they said, move the kicker back to the thirty and
or move the touch back to the thirty five. And
they decided to just go with the touchback. And you know,
through week one it's over seventy percent. That's a that's
a huge jump. I mean, that's that's back to the
numbers back in the day when the kick return was
was a big part of the game. So, you know,
(28:43):
I think they'll see, you know, look at it another
year and if they want to the numbers are all positive,
maybe they keep it as is or but the thirty
was definitely in the conversation, but they decided not to
do it this year.
Speaker 7 (28:54):
It's Dean Blando joining us here on Fox Sports Radio.
I was just gonna mention on the kickof It's it
seems like every off season we're having a discussion about
a new tweak or change to the kickoff. Do you
and I hope they never get rid of it because
I think it's how you start games. I think it's
it is football to me, that's how you know a
game is about to go, it's about to kick off.
(29:16):
Could you ever envision a world though, to where they
just say, yeah, you know, what.
Speaker 2 (29:22):
Is this?
Speaker 7 (29:22):
How much do we really need this and let's just
let's go ahead and just move on from it. Do
you think that that that's been kicked around or is
there been discussions about do you just get rid of
it altogether? I hope that never happens. But could you
see the league overreacting to a point to where they
make that move?
Speaker 9 (29:37):
Well, it was getting close prior to this change, It
really was. There was a lot of people that were
just like, hey, the injuries, it's it's so much higher
than other plays, you know, plays, some scrimmage things like that,
So let's just put them all in twenty five and
go or pick a pick a yard line and go.
But I think with this change, and this was a
(29:57):
drastic change, I mean, think about it. This is like
people look at this. I mean, we did this in
the XFL. I was a part of that back in
twenty twenty, and it's different. I mean, and so there
was some you know, some kind of hesitation in terms
of do we want to make this type of change.
But to your point, Jonas, it's like they wanted to
save the play ultimately because it is it's part of
(30:18):
the fabric of the game. I mean, we used kickoff
all the time as NFL kickoff, and that's how the
game starts. And the most exciting play I ever saw live,
one of the most exciting plays was was Devin Hester
returning the opening kickoff in the Super Bowl. I mean
that's and so I think ultimately they wanted to save
the play. And I think this has I can't see
(30:39):
where the injuries are. I can't see it, you know,
all of a sudden, just going going to a level
where the health and safety and then people get together
and say we got to get rid of it. So
I think they have saved the play.
Speaker 6 (30:52):
Dan, you watch the games from a different level, a
different understanding. I wonder what what were you seeing during
the games that you know you put into your notes,
like Oh, that's something to focus in on. That's something
to discuss that maybe us that don't have the same
(31:13):
eye of looking at the game the way you're looking
at it would would be able to see.
Speaker 9 (31:19):
Yeah, for me, you know, I always and I think
you guys probably know this as well. Like the first
couple of weeks is it's the football is not great,
like like and I think not great meaning mean, you're right,
you know when you're when you're talking about how when
we get into like we Gate nine. Now, now this
(31:40):
is like we're playing NFL football and everybody's kind of
everybody's kind of you know, firing on all cylinders. But
it's like nobody plays in the preseason, right, So and
it's and so what see you're going You see a
lot of like formation stuff. You see a lot of
pre snat penalties and things like that and the things
they got to clean it up.
Speaker 5 (31:59):
I mean I did.
Speaker 9 (32:00):
We did the Washington Giants game on on Sunday, and
there was just a lot of stuff that that you know,
and these guys aren't playing together as much. You know,
practice is practice, but you can't simulate that that that
real game feel and speed and everything else. So it's
just you know, and last year was was there were
there were six pre snap penalties like formations and false
(32:22):
starts and offside those types of things, six per game,
which was the most since two thousand and five. So
it's it's just cleaning that stuff up. So you notice
a lot of that, and some of it is just
officials don't don't call. So even for the officials, you're
kind of they're not in mid season form. So it's
just like that that tipe the first couple of weeks.
(32:43):
It's just almost like extended preseason.
Speaker 2 (32:45):
M a serious question.
Speaker 6 (32:49):
Nope, sorry go ah no, no, I just say I
totally agree with that, but go gok you.
Speaker 2 (32:53):
Yeah, it's a serious question. It's one that I think
needs to be answered. We're seeing a lot of dildos
being thrown on the core. I mean, at what point, Dean,
is this thing get out of hand, the.
Speaker 8 (33:06):
Song gets struck by one, or like, what's the punishment
that we're going to handle this?
Speaker 2 (33:11):
Are the officials who's supposed to pick it up? Do
you pick it up by the end? Like which end
you pick it up?
Speaker 9 (33:17):
I always know when Brady says this is a serious question,
how unseious it's going to be. But there is there
is a there is a dedicated official on each crew
that is responsible for the dildo. Oh it's not. It's
not the same position per crew. They'll they'll dedicate whoever
it is, Like, Okay, you know, Tony, it's you today
(33:37):
and uh and yeah, I mean to me, I think
you pick it up by the shaft. I think that's
just me.
Speaker 2 (33:44):
That's a good point. That's a good point.
Speaker 5 (33:45):
Oh good.
Speaker 9 (33:46):
If you're gonna throw it to you know, whoever it is,
the ball, the ball boy, whoever it is. You know,
no pun intended. You want to get you want to
you know, kind.
Speaker 2 (33:55):
Of get the shaft boy.
Speaker 9 (33:56):
Now, oh god, exactly you brought it up right?
Speaker 7 (34:01):
Oh no, I mean, Dean, do you do you look
at somebody differently if they volunteer to be the guy
to go pick up the dildo on.
Speaker 9 (34:09):
The current Yeah, you definitely, you definitely like those guys
are like, you know, the crew, the officials are. Those
crews travel together every week and they're together that that's
like your family, you know, your extended family. So you
start to learn things about people, what they do behind
closed doors, and sometimes.
Speaker 7 (34:26):
It's not pretty.
Speaker 2 (34:28):
I told you we have a lot of fund.
Speaker 6 (34:31):
Oh go get them on a Does that ever travel
to to the NFL Hall of Fame as as like,
you know, first object of its kind to to venture
onto the field.
Speaker 9 (34:42):
It's yeah, I mean it's we're seeing it. I think
the w n b A had a little problem more
so than the NFL. But man, it's I don't know
what the goo goes to a game and brings a
dilda like I got mine, Like you got your, you
got your ID, you got your you know you got
to yeh.
Speaker 5 (35:01):
Can't forget that.
Speaker 2 (35:05):
What a wild time to be alive. Huh, oh my god,
you're the best. I had some other questions for you,
but we don't have enough time.
Speaker 7 (35:13):
So he is Dean Blandino, Fox Sports, NFL and College
Football rules analyst. Always appreciate, uh, a few minutes of
your time. It's going to be a fun ride this year, Dean.
Speaker 5 (35:24):
Thanks man, you got guys, I.
Speaker 8 (35:30):
Said, I said, hey, when if you want to come on,
just know we're gonna ask a few questions about the rules, and.
Speaker 10 (35:35):
Then we don't.
Speaker 8 (35:36):
We don't want our listeners to get like bored, so
we're gonna have some fun.
Speaker 2 (35:40):
So hopefully, hopefully I did.
Speaker 7 (35:43):
Yeah, I did, Like, yeah, Well do you think.
Speaker 8 (35:46):
It's interesting we all learned something together, Like I didn't
know they dedicated one person to go grab.
Speaker 2 (35:51):
It or pick up whatever.
Speaker 5 (35:54):
Yes, slides, I.
Speaker 2 (35:56):
Was getting there, but you chime in there.
Speaker 8 (36:00):
Talking about something serious though, So let's put the dildos aside.

Jersey sales, even though he wasn't drafted obviously until the
end of April.
Speaker 10 (37:46):
Uh Any ideas who might have been leading the sales team.

Speaker 10 (38:06):
From the beginning of March through the end of July.
Speaker 5 (38:10):

Speaker 2 (38:46):
Yep, oh jeez, three from the same team.
Speaker 10 (38:53):
Number one. There you go, that's Jalen Hurts. And then

top ten in thirty Jen Carter up top Oh, Cooper

Speaker 5 (39:58):
That's why he drinks. Though. You gotta deal with the disappointment.
Speaker 8 (40:04):

makes complete sense. You have been you have been brainwashed,
and now apologize for everything in this world.
Speaker 11 (40:15):
