you've been a big fan of his, super big supporter

Well, yeah, you'll lose that like you've lost every other
former player that you've done that with.

So well, Brady, there were there was a couple of
years where I beat you, So don't don't you know

I hope he has a good career in journalism and broadcasting.
But the reality is is it didn't change my feelings
of him when he was a player, and it's not
going to so. I mean, he was a good player,
and he was never in my mind the guy who

won super Bowls for them because of him. He was
part of the part of the train and number one
scoring defense four years in a row. So that's where
it stands. But he's now in the CBS family and
we'll see how he does on TV. I hope he's good.

working with you. Guy won a super Bowl.

Let's let's talk about the trade that may have caught
people off guard more so than the A. J.
Speaker 6 (02:58):
Brown one. That's Miles Garrett I said earlier.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
I feel like this could work for both sides because
versus a really good young talent, they get draft capital
for the future. Rams get a player that helped them
win in this window with Stafford right now, they don't
really need the picks.
Speaker 6 (03:14):
I guess you'd say so. Is that how you see it?
Speaker 1 (03:17):
Kind of both teams come into an agreement like this
kind of makes sense for both at the moment.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
Absolutely, I'm with you, Brady. I think if you're from
the Rams standpoint, it makes all the sense in the
world to try and go for it again. Remember they
went for it the last time they won it. The
Super Bowl was in Los Angeles. The super Bowl this
year is in LA. They traded for Jalen Ramsey, they
got von Miller. I mean, they made moves to go
win to Super Bowl and they did, and now they're here.
(03:44):
They are back at it again and you know, in
the same type of situation, only now Matt Stafford is
coming to the end of his career, so there's even
more urgency. So I think it's a win for the
Rams from that standpoint. But you better win it. I mean,
that's that's the bottom line. There's no you know, finishing
his runner up, finishing in second place, finishing is a
team in the in the NFC Championship Game that that
(04:05):
doesn't justify the trade, So you better win it. This
this means it's all or nothing for them. As far
as the Browns. I love the trade for the Browns,
I'll be honest with you. Miles Garrett set a sack
record with twenty three. Last year, they win, they win,
they still didn't win, right, So, as great as a
player as he is, it's time to retool that roster.
(04:26):
And I think they're doing a really good job of that.
By the way, and you know, it's not often we
come here and say, oh boy, I like where the
Cleveland Browns are heading. But I like where the Cleveland
Browns are heading. I really do. So where when they
get their quarterback next year?
Speaker 5 (04:41):
Is that? Okay?
Speaker 4 (04:42):
When they get their quarterback next year?
Speaker 7 (04:44):
So you are so you're confirming like every other report,
is they they wave the red flag or the white
flag for for this season?
Speaker 4 (04:55):
What do you mean wave the white What are they
What were they going to do with Miles Garrett? And
what do they going to do without Miles Garrett?

Lose?

So why are not going to lose?

But next year a lot he's a lot younger than
Miles Garrett. Next year, when you get your quarterback, you
have your teams moving in the right direction.

It doesn't.

The moral of the story is, you can have all
the Miles Garrett you want, you're not winning unless you
have a quarterback.
Speaker 3 (05:23):
Pete. I kind of mentioned this earlier in talking about
the deal, that if the Browns had solved the quarterback issue,
meaning if the Deshaun Watson deal had actually worked out,
Miles Garrett is probably not getting traded because they're in
a much better spot. Is that your read on sort
of where they're at that this is all sort of
the fallout from maybe the worst, if not the worst,
(05:46):
one of the worst deals in the history of the league.
Speaker 4 (05:50):
No question about it. I mean, they're still trying to
come out from underneath what was a horrible decision, not
only to trade that those assets for them, but to
guarantee the money. And you know, when you look at
Deshaun Watson in Houston, had you know, a couple of
good years, was never great, he was good, he was
never great, and then all that stuff happened, and you
(06:11):
make the trade for him, and so you now you
have to dig out from underneath it. By the way,
I do think he's gonna be the starting quarterback in
Cleveland this year, which tells you where they are in
terms of the quarterback situation. So yeah, like I said yesterday,
if I were if I were Cleveland Browns fans, I
start watching the University of Texas football. I've watched a
lot of that football this year because I think, no Texas,
(06:34):
I think, and and let's not forget Jimmy has them
as ties to that Manning family too, remember that. So
I think it's I think it's certainly going to be
they get a quarterback next year. Now they have the
ambal to go get one if they want to. And
they're not gonna be a great team this year. I
thought this year they'd be feisty and tough on defense,
and they still can be but and and stay in games,
(06:55):
but they weren't gonna win. They're the fourth team in
the division and and so they weren't gonna win a
lot of games. But that's why I think getting the
extra picks in the AMMO to go up and get
the quarterback you want, I think it makes all the
sense in the world for the Cleveland Browns.
Speaker 7 (07:07):
Uh Pete Juju Smith and Odale Beckham and who's the
third one?
Speaker 5 (07:15):
What's his name again?
Speaker 7 (07:16):
Barrios? Yeah, Barrios? What what I mean.
Speaker 4 (07:22):
Maybe maybe you know, five years ago, that would have
been a nice receiver room.
Speaker 5 (07:26):
Yeah, but what is that now?
Speaker 4 (07:28):
Well, it's concerning because of the neighbor situation, that's what
it is. I mean that that's that's concerning because he's
not you know, he's had some setbacks and that to
me is the biggest concern for that receiver room. Look,
Odell Beckham didn't look like Odell Beckham the last time
we saw him. Juju Smith Schuster never was fast and
looks slower. So Barrios is just a guy. So when
(07:50):
you look at it, that's panic room. You know, two
thousand and you know twenty that's what that or twenty
twenty two, that's.
Speaker 5 (07:58):
What that is.
Speaker 4 (07:59):
And again and their bodies, you're not counting on them
to be the big part of the of the offense. Now,
if one of them steps up and you know, like Beckham,
can show that he's back to being close to Beckham,
then maybe he gets into the rotation. But I think
that's just bodies for camp and not anything more than that.
Speaker 5 (08:18):
So they won't make final roster.
Speaker 4 (08:21):
Well Beckham might, yeah, but I think Beckham might.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
Okay, Pete, I would ask you about the Aj Brown
trade and just the compensation involved, it doesn't feel like
a premium. I know it's a first round pick, but
it is two years away, and then a fifth round
pick as well.
Speaker 6 (08:38):
Some people were saying.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
Hey, the Colts gave up more to get Sauce Gardner,
using that as a as a as a comparison. I
just look at it and wonder, it feels like the
Patriots got the much better end of this deal. And
was there just not anyone else involved in the conversation
for AJ Brown in his services? Were they pushed off
by how he's he's conducted himself maybe the last couple
(09:01):
of years.
Speaker 4 (09:03):
I don't necessarily think that from people I've talked to,
I don't necessarily think he's one hundred percent of the
total problem in Philly. You know, I think the riff
with the quarterback is a problem. The quarterback at times
has been a problem. Excuse me. And then I think
when you look at it from that standpoint, I think
that's that's why I think it's magnified what he did
obviously reading the book on the sideline and complainingly he
(09:26):
didn't get the ball. But remember they had a great
relationship to two of them and it's fractured, and everybody
blamed AJ Brown, but I don't think that's necessarily the case.
So I don't know if the market went down. You're
also trading for a guy now he's on his third team.
He's never been, you know, a burner. He's a good player,
but he's not getting up in the years as well,
(09:47):
So there was concern about that, I think around the league.
But here's the other part of it. If you're if
you know they didn't give up the twenty seven pick
in large part because that twenty seven draft has a
chance and we've talked about it a bunch to be
really special. So I think from that standpoint, the Patriots
did a great job of not giving up to twenty seven.
But we'll see how AJ Brown fits in. That receiver
(10:07):
room has a lot of guys in it now and
we'll see how that fits in. But I do think
right now, on paper, it's a good trade for New
England to get a weapon of that sort for Drake May.
But you also got to be careful with that. You
don't know how he's going to act when he gets
in there. You don't know, you know, when he starts
to you know his skills start to erode. I think
there's a lot of things at play. So right now
(10:28):
you'd say, Okay, good move for the Patriots, But check
back with me in three years.

had to? And obviously we don't know what went on
behind the scenes between Jalen Hurts and AJ Brown, but
just on the field, what would be your criticism of
Jalen Hurts from what you've watched over the past couple
(10:53):
of years, even post Super Bowl?
Speaker 4 (10:56):
Well, he's not great thrown in the middle of the field,
for one, I means, and this new offense is going
to ask him to throw more into the middle of
the field. And look, when he's been on the field
playing in Super Bowls, he's been dynamic and a big
part of what he did is his ability to run
the football and create, you know, those kind of mismatches,
and it makes it a lot easier to throw the
football when you can run it the way they did
(11:17):
and run it the way he did. When he's a
threat to run you got to defend him differently. It
makes should make throwing the football a lot easier, and
it did. But when the running game wasn't good last year,
he wasn't that good. And I think that's something that
he's got to show people this year that he can
be the guy for the long term by being able
to make all the throws when he needs to make
the throws. And I think there's still questions about that,
(11:38):
and I think that's where AJ Brown got frustrated at times.
You know, he was one of those situations. Plus you
know what a a what they asked AJ Brown to do.
They didn't ask him to do a lot of route running.
I mean, their offense was very primitive, I thought at times,
and so I think they need to get with the
times with their offense and then find out what you
have in Jalen Hurts, because look, he's been great in
(11:58):
those Super Bowls and probably probably as good as any
player on the field those games, and there were some
great players on the field, including Patrick Mahomes. But the
reality is is over the course of the past season,
he was not that good. And I think there's alarm
bells going off in Philadelphia and he needs to play
well this.
Speaker 7 (12:14):
Year, Pete, When when you look at like how July
June First hits and the moves that these teams make
with the idea of assuming things are going to go
a certain type of way, what what's the ultimate goal?
(12:35):
Is it just financially driven the things that they do
or is this is there something else there? Like we're
having a conversation about Miles Garrett doing what you know,
them getting rid of Miles Garrett. I'm just trying to
understand what would be the main the main reason for
doing some of these things, because I mean, am I
(12:58):
answer me? Am I wrong in assuming there was a
time where players of his caliber were not dispensable commodities
like they could get away with almost basically murder, and
they still would not be removed from the team based
upon their talent level. What's this June first has? Has
(13:22):
the money started to outweigh the value of the player
in today's NFL?
Speaker 5 (13:30):
Okay, go ahead, let me know.
Speaker 4 (13:31):
No, No, this is just a you know, financing mechanism
to make it easier to dispose of a player, that's all.
I mean. It's let's be real. If they didn't have
June one, they probably would have traded them in March
or April, you know, so June one just gives you
a chance to spread out the bonus hit that you
take the amortization of the bonus. It makes it easier
(13:54):
to trade these guys. That's why, you know, that's why
A j. Brown waited until June one. That's why you
all teams get a bunch of cap room back on
guys that they let go that with June one designations yesterday.
So it's just it's just cap gymnastics. And by the way,
if you want to make your cap work any way
you can, you can, and we're seeing that around the league.
But it just makes it easier from from that standpoint.
(14:17):
And you know, look at Miami, Miami's you know their
their June one designation was on Tuha and they split
the they split the money up, and so now they
take a hit this year, they take a hit next year,
whereas if they didn't do that, they would have taken
the big hit and all of this year. So it's
just cap gymnastics, and I think teams are smart with that.
But you know what it does, It creates this scenario.

the NFL. It's June one, and then we have many camps.
I go, I'm going to see the Dolphins today. Next
week I'm going to Jacksonville, I think. Then I'm gonna
go see camp. So you got right into the middle
of June. Then you have a couple of weeks off,
and then you know, next thing you know, it's July
is training camp. So what is the NFL done with

this year round?
Speaker 7 (16:00):
Maybe just the way they like it, Pete, you were
answering the question the whole entire time.
Speaker 4 (16:05):
Yeah, I know, I didn't know.

I was it was ridiculous.

good one for you. Right, So the first half is
going to be upbeat. In the second half you're going
to be able to take the blowtorch out. So first
half of the question is which team in the NFL
had the best off season? Second half is which team
in the NFL.
Speaker 5 (17:02):
Had the worst off season? Up to this point?
Speaker 4 (17:05):
Wow, the best off season I think has been I mean,
it's hard not to say the Rams have had the
best off season. When you go fix your secondary, which
was a disaster by the way, and you get McDuffie
and Watson, and then you come back and you get
Miles Garrett, the team that had problems on that side
of the ball defending the pass last year, all of
(17:26):
a sudden, now is his strength. So I think it's
easy to sit here and say the Rams. I think
the Cowboys have had a great off season, by the way.
I love what they've done on defense, adding bodies, getting
new defensive coordinator, getting a new system. I think that
the Cowboys have really had a good, really good off season. Now,
who had the worst off season? Boy, that's a good one.
(17:48):
That's tough to I don't I mean in terms of
adding guys or in terms.
Speaker 3 (17:53):
Of just having a bad off total off season you
look at and go, what are they doing?
Speaker 4 (17:58):
That's hard to say. I don't mean. Would I've drafted
a running back of high as Arizona drafted it and
then signed a quarterback and Gardner Minshew and then decided
to play with Jacoby Brissette. Probably not so maybe Arizona.
But that's an easy target.
Speaker 6 (18:13):
Real for Gardner Minshew. I have no idea why.
Speaker 4 (18:19):
Well, he's not very good.
Speaker 6 (18:22):
It's like you go out of your way to bring
it up.
Speaker 1 (18:24):
I thought Arizona was the low hanging fruit because they're
still negotiating a deal with Jacobe Brissette right now.
Speaker 5 (18:30):

how I would negotiate with him. What are we doing here?
But what Kobe Presett, hardline quarterback negotiating? Come on, give

Talking about, Brady. What is Jakobe Presett as the quarterback
in the national Oh I'm not talking about him.

Now, I'm talking about you, Pete. I've heard the ultimatums
you give CBS.

Oh wow, yeah, I give a lot of ultimat They
tell me. Don't the door hitch and the ass on
the way out by the way, buddy, I mean, you.

Know, hey, that's same that same ass that's taken multiple
shots to the ass just to go to make it
up on set during Super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (19:12):
Come on, dude, Yeah, that's right. I was sick. I
took that that that vitamin that vitamin shot, and it
was actually an antibiotic shot. It was one of the
greatest things I've ever had in my entire life in Atlanta.
By the way, that guy whoever he was doing that
in the back room over there, he should do that
on the side. It was. I went in, remember, Brady, Yeah,
oh yeah, I was sick at the super Bowl. I
(19:32):
was sup I was ticking the super Bowl and I
decided I needed to get some antibiotics. So I went
to this clinic across the street from where we were
doing our stuff, and I was like dragging going in there,
and he gave me an antibiotic shot. Next thing I know,
I came out and Brady, remember, I was like walking
on sunshine. After that, it was like.

Man, it was a new man. That was pretty wild.
Speaker 3 (19:53):
Do you know what it was?

I forget what it was, but it was it was
this way two shots. It was antibiotic, and I don't
know what the hell the other one was, but maybe
what the hell the other one was fantastic? Whatever that is?

Well, Pete always fun. We appreciate it. I don't know
what happened with the connection there, but uh, you know

If you did miss it, Pete, here's the reality is
I know you talk on the phone a decent amount
because that was one of those old school, you know
moments where someone who's used to putting in a lot
of time on the phones, it just just starts talking,
just starts talking forever, and then they finally it worked
out well for us, like you made your point at
the very very end, so it was nice.

But he's saying, Brady, I babble when I'm on the phone,
and you know.

Your old school, like I would not be shocked. Do
you have is it a cordless phone for your for
your home phone or do you have a chord on it?

if you're like talking to somebody you didn't want them

dial You guys don't know what dial phones were. You
never had those?

the time. Get a foot phone, right, So everything that's

cool has come back. So Brady, all those you know,
members only jackets you had back in a hey day,
you can keep those and get those out again.

What I take shot me, wasn't that a certain style
of jacket the members owner staff?

It was actually way back in the day, So it's
before your time even a little bit.

It's hard to describe. In fact, JJ, who works with

I mean it kind of looks like a like a
windbreaker almost.

Yeah, but they were like everybody had to have a
members only Oh, you had to get a member's only jacket.
It was members only jacket. Calvin Klein, Jean's and Jordash
That's what it was. That's what was way back in
the day.

All right, so we stumbled upon an idea and it's,

I mean, a really really, really good question and there's
only one show that can tackle no pun intended a
question like this. But who sounded more like they were
trying to be something they weren't more Brian Kelly or
Jackson Dart. And we bring this up because Jackson Dart

Let's let's talk about the trade that may have caught
people off guard more so than the A. J.

Brown one. That's Miles Garrett I said earlier.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
I feel like this could work for both sides because
versus a really good young talent, they get draft capital
for the future. Rams get a player that helped them
win in this window with Stafford right now, they don't
really need the picks.
Speaker 6 (03:14):
I guess you'd say so. Is that how you see it?
Speaker 1 (03:17):
Kind of both teams come into an agreement like this
kind of makes sense for both at the moment.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
Absolutely, I'm with you, Brady. I think if you're from
the Rams standpoint, it makes all the sense in the
world to try and go for it again. Remember they
went for it the last time they won it. The
Super Bowl was in Los Angeles. The super Bowl this
year is in LA. They traded for Jalen Ramsey, they
got von Miller. I mean, they made moves to go
win to Super Bowl and they did, and now they're here.
(03:44):
They are back at it again and you know, in
the same type of situation, only now Matt Stafford is
coming to the end of his career, so there's even
more urgency. So I think it's a win for the
Rams from that standpoint. But you better win it. I mean,
that's that's the bottom line. There's no you know, finishing
his runner up, finishing in second place, finishing is a
team in the in the NFC Championship Game that that
(04:05):
doesn't justify the trade, So you better win it. This
this means it's all or nothing for them. As far
as the Browns. I love the trade for the Browns,
I'll be honest with you. Miles Garrett set a sack
record with twenty three. Last year, they win, they win,
they still didn't win, right, So, as great as a
player as he is, it's time to retool that roster.
(04:26):
And I think they're doing a really good job of that.
By the way, and you know, it's not often we
come here and say, oh boy, I like where the
Cleveland Browns are heading. But I like where the Cleveland
Browns are heading. I really do. So where when they
get their quarterback next year?

When they get their quarterback next year?

So you are so you're confirming like every other report,
is they they wave the red flag or the white
flag for for this season?

What were they going to do with Miles Garrett? And
what do they going to do without Miles Garrett?

So why are not going to lose?

But next year a lot he's a lot younger than
Miles Garrett. Next year, when you get your quarterback, you
have your teams moving in the right direction.

It doesn't.

The moral of the story is, you can have all
the Miles Garrett you want, you're not winning unless you
have a quarterback.
Speaker 3 (05:23):
Pete. I kind of mentioned this earlier in talking about
the deal, that if the Browns had solved the quarterback issue,
meaning if the Deshaun Watson deal had actually worked out,
Miles Garrett is probably not getting traded because they're in
a much better spot. Is that your read on sort
of where they're at that this is all sort of
the fallout from maybe the worst, if not the worst,
(05:46):
one of the worst deals in the history of the league.
Speaker 4 (05:50):
No question about it. I mean, they're still trying to
come out from underneath what was a horrible decision, not
only to trade that those assets for them, but to
guarantee the money. And you know, when you look at
Deshaun Watson in Houston, had you know, a couple of
good years, was never great, he was good, he was
never great, and then all that stuff happened, and you
(06:11):
make the trade for him, and so you now you
have to dig out from underneath it. By the way,
I do think he's gonna be the starting quarterback in
Cleveland this year, which tells you where they are in
terms of the quarterback situation. So yeah, like I said yesterday,
if I were if I were Cleveland Browns fans, I
start watching the University of Texas football. I've watched a
lot of that football this year because I think, no Texas,
(06:34):
I think, and and let's not forget Jimmy has them
as ties to that Manning family too, remember that. So
I think it's I think it's certainly going to be
they get a quarterback next year. Now they have the
ambal to go get one if they want to. And
they're not gonna be a great team this year. I
thought this year they'd be feisty and tough on defense,
and they still can be but and and stay in games,
(06:55):
but they weren't gonna win. They're the fourth team in
the division and and so they weren't gonna win a
lot of games. But that's why I think getting the
extra picks in the AMMO to go up and get
the quarterback you want, I think it makes all the
sense in the world for the Cleveland Browns.

Uh Pete Juju Smith and Odale Beckham and who's the
third one?
Speaker 5 (07:15):
What's his name again?
Speaker 7 (07:16):
Barrios? Yeah, Barrios? What what I mean.

Maybe maybe you know, five years ago, that would have
been a nice receiver room.
Speaker 5 (07:26):

Well, it's concerning because of the neighbor situation, that's what
it is. I mean that that's that's concerning because he's
not you know, he's had some setbacks and that to
me is the biggest concern for that receiver room. Look,
Odell Beckham didn't look like Odell Beckham the last time
we saw him. Juju Smith Schuster never was fast and
looks slower. So Barrios is just a guy. So when
(07:50):
you look at it, that's panic room. You know, two
thousand and you know twenty that's what that or twenty
twenty two, that's.
Speaker 5 (07:58):
What that is.
Speaker 4 (07:59):
And again and their bodies, you're not counting on them
to be the big part of the of the offense. Now,
if one of them steps up and you know, like Beckham,
can show that he's back to being close to Beckham,
then maybe he gets into the rotation. But I think
that's just bodies for camp and not anything more than that.
Speaker 5 (08:18):
So they won't make final roster.
Speaker 4 (08:21):
Well Beckham might, yeah, but I think Beckham might.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
Okay, Pete, I would ask you about the Aj Brown
trade and just the compensation involved, it doesn't feel like
a premium. I know it's a first round pick, but
it is two years away, and then a fifth round
pick as well.
Speaker 6 (08:38):
Some people were saying.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
Hey, the Colts gave up more to get Sauce Gardner,
using that as a as a as a comparison. I
just look at it and wonder, it feels like the
Patriots got the much better end of this deal. And
was there just not anyone else involved in the conversation
for AJ Brown in his services? Were they pushed off
by how he's he's conducted himself maybe the last couple
(09:01):
of years.
Speaker 4 (09:03):
I don't necessarily think that from people I've talked to,
I don't necessarily think he's one hundred percent of the
total problem in Philly. You know, I think the riff
with the quarterback is a problem. The quarterback at times
has been a problem. Excuse me. And then I think
when you look at it from that standpoint, I think
that's that's why I think it's magnified what he did
obviously reading the book on the sideline and complainingly he
(09:26):
didn't get the ball. But remember they had a great
relationship to two of them and it's fractured, and everybody
blamed AJ Brown, but I don't think that's necessarily the case.
So I don't know if the market went down. You're
also trading for a guy now he's on his third team.
He's never been, you know, a burner. He's a good player,
but he's not getting up in the years as well,
(09:47):
So there was concern about that, I think around the league.
But here's the other part of it. If you're if
you know they didn't give up the twenty seven pick
in large part because that twenty seven draft has a
chance and we've talked about it a bunch to be
really special. So I think from that standpoint, the Patriots
did a great job of not giving up to twenty seven.
But we'll see how AJ Brown fits in. That receiver
(10:07):
room has a lot of guys in it now and
we'll see how that fits in. But I do think
right now, on paper, it's a good trade for New
England to get a weapon of that sort for Drake May.
But you also got to be careful with that. You
don't know how he's going to act when he gets
in there. You don't know, you know, when he starts
to you know his skills start to erode. I think
there's a lot of things at play. So right now
(10:28):
you'd say, Okay, good move for the Patriots, But check
back with me in three years.

had to? And obviously we don't know what went on
behind the scenes between Jalen Hurts and AJ Brown, but
just on the field, what would be your criticism of
Jalen Hurts from what you've watched over the past couple
(10:53):
of years, even post Super Bowl?
Speaker 4 (10:56):
Well, he's not great thrown in the middle of the field,
for one, I means, and this new offense is going
to ask him to throw more into the middle of
the field. And look, when he's been on the field
playing in Super Bowls, he's been dynamic and a big
part of what he did is his ability to run
the football and create, you know, those kind of mismatches,
and it makes it a lot easier to throw the
football when you can run it the way they did
(11:17):
and run it the way he did. When he's a
threat to run you got to defend him differently. It
makes should make throwing the football a lot easier, and
it did. But when the running game wasn't good last year,
he wasn't that good. And I think that's something that
he's got to show people this year that he can
be the guy for the long term by being able
to make all the throws when he needs to make
the throws. And I think there's still questions about that,
(11:38):
and I think that's where AJ Brown got frustrated at times.
You know, he was one of those situations. Plus you
know what a a what they asked AJ Brown to do.
They didn't ask him to do a lot of route running.
I mean, their offense was very primitive, I thought at times,
and so I think they need to get with the
times with their offense and then find out what you
have in Jalen Hurts, because look, he's been great in
(11:58):
those Super Bowls and probably probably as good as any
player on the field those games, and there were some
great players on the field, including Patrick Mahomes. But the
reality is is over the course of the past season,
he was not that good. And I think there's alarm
bells going off in Philadelphia and he needs to play
well this.
Speaker 7 (12:14):
Year, Pete, When when you look at like how July
June First hits and the moves that these teams make
with the idea of assuming things are going to go
a certain type of way, what what's the ultimate goal?
(12:35):
Is it just financially driven the things that they do
or is this is there something else there? Like we're
having a conversation about Miles Garrett doing what you know,
them getting rid of Miles Garrett. I'm just trying to
understand what would be the main the main reason for
doing some of these things, because I mean, am I
(12:58):
answer me? Am I wrong in assuming there was a
time where players of his caliber were not dispensable commodities
like they could get away with almost basically murder, and
they still would not be removed from the team based
upon their talent level. What's this June first has? Has
(13:22):
the money started to outweigh the value of the player
in today's NFL?
Speaker 5 (13:30):
Okay, go ahead, let me know.
Speaker 4 (13:31):
No, No, this is just a you know, financing mechanism
to make it easier to dispose of a player, that's all.
I mean. It's let's be real. If they didn't have
June one, they probably would have traded them in March
or April, you know, so June one just gives you
a chance to spread out the bonus hit that you
take the amortization of the bonus. It makes it easier
(13:54):
to trade these guys. That's why, you know, that's why
A j. Brown waited until June one. That's why you
all teams get a bunch of cap room back on
guys that they let go that with June one designations yesterday.
So it's just it's just cap gymnastics. And by the way,
if you want to make your cap work any way
you can, you can, and we're seeing that around the league.
But it just makes it easier from from that standpoint.
(14:17):
And you know, look at Miami, Miami's you know their
their June one designation was on Tuha and they split
the they split the money up, and so now they
take a hit this year, they take a hit next year,
whereas if they didn't do that, they would have taken
the big hit and all of this year. So it's
just cap gymnastics, and I think teams are smart with that.
But you know what it does, It creates this scenario.

of June. Then you have a couple of weeks off,
and then you know, next thing you know, it's July
is training camp. So what is the NFL done with

this year round?

Maybe just the way they like it, Pete, you were
answering the question the whole entire time.

Had the worst off season? Up to this point?

Wow, the best off season I think has been I mean,
it's hard not to say the Rams have had the
best off season. When you go fix your secondary, which
was a disaster by the way, and you get McDuffie
and Watson, and then you come back and you get
Miles Garrett, the team that had problems on that side
of the ball defending the pass last year, all of
(17:26):
a sudden, now is his strength. So I think it's
easy to sit here and say the Rams. I think
the Cowboys have had a great off season, by the way.
I love what they've done on defense, adding bodies, getting
new defensive coordinator, getting a new system. I think that
the Cowboys have really had a good, really good off season. Now,
who had the worst off season? Boy, that's a good one.
(17:48):
That's tough to I don't I mean in terms of
adding guys or in terms.
Speaker 3 (17:53):
Of just having a bad off total off season you
look at and go, what are they doing?
Speaker 4 (17:58):
That's hard to say. I don't mean. Would I've drafted
a running back of high as Arizona drafted it and
then signed a quarterback and Gardner Minshew and then decided
to play with Jacoby Brissette. Probably not so maybe Arizona.
But that's an easy target.

Real for Gardner Minshew. I have no idea why.

Well, he's not very good.

It's like you go out of your way to bring
it up.
