Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome in podcast listeners. Appreciate all of you guys out
there spending your time with us. On Thursday morning, we
got a fun show for you. An earthquake hits l
A halfway halfway through the show. This morning, we got
loaded guests frank I Sola and we'll talk with Dr
David Chow as well as Shannon Spake plus Animal Thunderdome,

(00:21):
and we're discussing the three big stories of the day.
The NBA's ridiculous hypocrisy when it comes to taking billions
of dollars from Nazis in China, The a c C
decision to add Notre Dame and play ten conference games
and what it means for college football, And how in
the world did Joe Kelly of the Dodgers get an
a game suspension for not even hitting anyone when no

(00:43):
one from the Houston Astros was suspended for the cheating
scandal at all. We break all that down and more.
It's out Kick. Thanks to you guys. We also give
you some five star podcast reviews. Go give us five stars.
Appreciate all the support, thanks for helping us set yet
another record in July for audience on the podcast, and

(01:31):
So let's get right to it. First of all, the
NBA is coming back after a prolonged absence ever since
Rudy Gobert tested positive in the league shut down back
in March. But the league is returning in an interesting time,
as ESPN dropped a neutron bomb on the NBA over

(01:52):
their relationship with China. If you haven't read the story
that came out yesterday evening afternoon time from ESPN, props
to ESPN for running it. I'm curious how much talking
about it there will be. But essentially, after a very
long time of people like me pointing out the abject

(02:13):
hypocrisy of NBA players, teams, the organization, the commissioner claiming
to be voices for social justice while overlooking human rights
violations that are akin to Nazi Germany inside of China
and taking billions of dollars from them. So the NBA
today and we'll talk about this, I'm sure tomorrow is

(02:35):
going to make a big statement. They're gonna get a
ton of attention to do whatever they can to disrespect
American institutions before the game start. I believe that's what's
likely to happen. They've already got statements on the back
of their jerseys that are going to be made. But
if you mentioned the fact that China is basically Nazi

(02:55):
Germany and the NBA has no issues taking billions of
dollars from them, then you are a small minority of
the overall American sports fan who is willing to actually
hold the feet to the fire of the NBA to
speak truth to their lying power. And so far Adam Silver,

(03:15):
to my knowledge, has not addressed the NBA's relationship with
China at all. That article is incredibly devastating to the
NBA's message of of human rights, support of all of
the social justice warrioredom that they have continued to advance
and try to make money off of an America while

(03:37):
turning a blind eye toward it in China. So ESPN
again finally jumped on and wrote about this entire mess
that the NBA is in the hypocrisy that surrounds the league.
I believe it's the NBA's decision to be outspoken politically
that has opened this up as a major issue for them. Frankly,

(03:59):
if you are in any way concerned about issues of
human rights anywhere in America, I don't know how you
can support the NBA when they are effectively taking money
from Nazi Germany in China, and just go read that
article of all of the abuses that are out there
and remind yourself that Adam Silver said the NBA has

(04:20):
mutual respect for Chinese values. Chinese values such as creating
concentration camps, putting religious minorities in sterilization programs, pulling books
off of the shelves if they reference democracy in Hong Kong,
and taking away the basic human rights of billions of

(04:42):
people around the world. China is a modern day Nazi government,
the closest thing that we have to Nazis in our
life today, and the NBA is taking billions of dollars
for them from them while ridiculing American institutions here in
our country. They are against American values and in favor

(05:06):
of Chinese values. It's shameful the NBA season returns. Hopefully
someone in the media will actually hold Adam Silver accountable
for his league's transgressions against basic human rights. The NBA
what they should do is turned their back entirely on
China and say we're not willing to take Nazi blood

(05:26):
money from China. So the NBA is back hypocritical as ever.
Congratulations to ESPN for dropping that neutron bomb on the
NBA in China's relationship. Uh maybe they felt pressured to
do it after Adrian Wochnarowski responded f you to a
sitting Republican senator who pointed out all of these hypocrisies.

(05:46):
It's an interesting and fascinating question as to why this
story came out when it did the day before the
NBA season begins. But it's a significant story that will
continue to unpack on this program. Okay, that is I
would say the most serious story that is out there,
the second most interesting story to me. I stayed up

(06:07):
last night late and watched the Dodger game against the Astros.
I am fascinated by the runner starts on second base
rule in extra innings, and even with that going on,
it still took a while for this game to end,
for the Dodgers to find a way to get the
victory a second straight over the Astros early signature statement

(06:31):
wins by the Dodgers, but overshadowing that story was to
me Joe Kelly getting an eight game suspension from Major
League Baseball Commissioner Rob man for it. Now, I've defended
Rob Manfred's response to the situation with the Miami Marlins,
say did a good job. There's no way to defend
Rob Manford in any way over the response to the

(06:54):
Houston Astros cheating scandal in conjunction with what happened to
Joe Kelly. So in eight games a spension in a
sixty game season is the equivalent of a twenty two
games suspension in a one sixty two games season. Joe
Kelly didn't hit anyone, He didn't hit anyone at all,
yet he has ended up with a more significant suspension

(07:18):
than anyone on the Houston Astros got for the cheating scandal.
Now you can point to the fact that in order
to figure out what happened in the cheating scandal, that
Major League Baseball granted all immunity to all Houston Astro players.
But that's just a flaw in the logic from Rob Manfred.

(07:39):
And there's no way on the planet that you can
justify suspending Joe Kelly for seven for eight games when
you didn't do anything to a single Houston Astro player
who actually cheated. This is a bad look for Major
League Baseball. Joe Kelly should appeal his suspension, but there
is no way what soever to justify that length of

(08:02):
suspension eight games again, which is the equivalent of a
twenty two games suspension if this were a normal hundred
and sixty two game regular season. That is just a
total failure by Rob Manford to not read the room,
to not have a better sense for what exactly is
going on. I haven't even seen anyone who agrees with

(08:23):
this decision. I think even a lot of people who
are listening to me who are Astro fans are like, yeah,
eight games seems crazy for Joe Kelly, for both pitches
that didn't hit anybody and for the jawing on the
mound that he did during a game on Wednesday night
that the Dodgers won on the road against the Astros.
Uh so that is a big story that will continue

(08:46):
to be covered as well. All of these stories, by
the way, broke nearly identical time yesterday afternoon. And then
the third major story I would say that is out
there is that the a c C UH rushed to
announce their plan for the college football season, and it
is pretty much a blockbuster plan. Notre Dame, for the

(09:09):
first time since eight seven, will be a member of
a conference. Notre Dame will be playing a ten game
a c C schedule, and they will have the ability
to advance to the a c C Championship Game, to
win the a c C Championship Game, UH to win
the conference. The a c C announcing a ten game

(09:31):
conference schedule and Notre Dame being a part of their
conference is a big deal. Also guarantees to the a
c C now that if Notre Dame decides to ever
join a conference between now and twenty thirty six, they
will join the a c C. And the a c
C also said they were open to ten games in

(09:51):
conference plus an additional game, so they potentially are willing
to play eleven games. That additional game would have to
be played in state and be out of conference. Well,
what does that mean, you might be wondering, Well, it's
the A c C attempting to put the onus on
the SEC to either keep or cancel Georgia Georgia Tech, Florida,

(10:17):
Florida State, Louisville against Kentucky, and Clemson against South Carolina.
Those are all games that are played in state to
end the seasons in all four of those states, State
of Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, and Kentucky. And those are
massive rivalry games. And now the SEC will potentially have

(10:41):
to figure out what their plan is going forward. There
are reports that are accurate. I believe that there is.
In fact, we know this because Greg Sanky came on
with us the commissioner of the Southeastern Conference a couple
of weeks ago, and said that he had an eight
at ten and a twelve game plan. Uh. Potentially that

(11:01):
could be executed in order to have college football come back.
And reports are that the SEC is leaning towards a
ten game conference only schedule. What would that look like.
There's been a lot of criticism over the years of
the SEC for only playing eight conference games. Uh, this
would have the SEC play ten. Every school would add

(11:24):
two more games to their conference slate, and the way
they would set it up is the next two pre
teams that you were scheduled to play on your schedule
rotation basis would be pushed up and you would play
him in instead of two. Well, what it leaves open

(11:45):
is is there a possibility for an eleventh game or
would the SEC just say Okay, we're only playing a
ten game conference only season. So all of these stories
are massive ones. All of these are circulating right now.
I will say on the college football front, this is

(12:07):
a really really good sign for college football because we're
getting closer and closer to at least the season beginning,
even though obviously things are messy in terms of all
the details that have to be unspooled in order for
the season to happen. And if you go to a
ten game conference only schedule, one thing that that would

(12:31):
allow you to do theoretically is at least create some
bye weeks. In the event that some players got sick
on a team, You could have a little bit more
flexibility and when those games would actually be played because
you could build in a couple of additional bye weeks
into the season. Now, I would think most Southeastern Conference

(12:53):
football fans would be fine with doing away with some
of the patsy's and playing in full conference games, even
if it meant you were playing ten instead of twelve. However,
it raises some intriguing questions as I just said about
those four big rivalry games Georgia, Georgia Tech, Florida, Florida State, Clemson,

(13:14):
South Carolina, Louisville, and Kentucky. And it also raises a
larger issue out there about other big games that were
to schedule to take place against the Big twelve. Among them,
I believe Texas l s you uh, and also Tennessee Oklahoma.
There are others of those games as well, but those

(13:35):
would be the two biggest out of conference games that
potentially could be lost to coronavirus rescheduling needs. So all
of those stories are out there, we will be unpacking
them throughout the course of this program. We've got an
absolutely loaded show for you. UH. We're gonna talk to
frank Is Sola here an hour, one an hour to

(13:57):
Shannon Spake is gonna swing by and hang out with
and then in the third hour Dr David Chow will
join us to talk about the latest on the return
of sports in the coronavirus era. In particular, we'll be
focusing on Major League Baseball's issues with the Miami Marlins
and what is going to happen with the NBA bubble

(14:18):
as the NBA season returns tonight. Zion Lebron Kauai. They
they are all underway and in action as the as
the NBA season officially gets back underway. And if you're
out there listening to me right now and you're looking
for good news, I mean, think about how crazy this is. Now.
The NBA is back, We've got We've got the Major

(14:42):
League Baseball back, and at least the positive is outside
of the Marlins, everything's been going pretty smooth. On Saturday,
we will have the NHL back. All three of those
will come Saturday. We all be playing simultaneously, tons of
games every single day, and so there will be a lot,
a lot of moving parts, more sports in August than

(15:07):
we have ever seen before in the history of American sports.

Frank I Sola is gonna join us, NBA is returning.

(17:20):
What does he think about the story that ESPN dropped
on the NBA in China? Joe Kelly with an eight
game suspension, and a c C releases their plan for
the conference that includes Notre Dame. So much going on,
we'll talk about all that more with frank I Sola.
It's outkicked the coverage with Clay Travis. Appreciate all of

(17:41):
you hanging out with us. We bring in now frank
I Sola at the Frank I Sola on Twitter, you
can watch them on ESPN, you can read him at
the Athletic, you can listen to him on Sirius XM,
and you can hear him every single Thursday morning hanging
out with us. Frank it was like yesterday afternoon bombshell, bombshell, bombshell,
all landing, which was kind of wacky given that a

(18:04):
lot of times there aren't necessarily a lot of big stories.
And we started off the show talking about all three
of them. Uh, Joe Kelly getting an eight game suspension
from Major League Baseball, the NBA bombshell from China from
your own ESPN diving in, and the A c C.
Notre Dame decision to go to ten games. Which of

(18:25):
those three stories to you was the most newsworthy, all
of which were landing right around I believe four thirty
five o'clock Eastern time yesterday. I thought, you know, Notre
Dame is an interesting one because Notre Dame never wants
to be in a football conference. It always wants to

(18:46):
act as an independent. I know, it's other sports in
the ce C. I thought that was interesting. But the
Kelly one, I thought, you know that that was major league.
You know, he sent a message to the Astros, and
that's major League Baseball kind of sending a message to
everyone else. You know. I was thinking back to um
two thousand, many moons ago, when I don't know, you
were probably a freshman at George Washington. That's when that year,

(19:11):
if you remember, that's when Clemments, Roger Clemens hit Mike
Piazza right in the head, right square in the head
with a pitch. Then later on that same season they
met in the World Series and Piazza that's when he
threw the bat. He throws the pitch at Piazza. Piazza's
bat breaks, and he throws the bat at Piazza. So
and I was shocked. I was actually at that game.

(19:33):
I was shocked at the Mets didn't charge him. I
actually think that probably contributed them losing the World Series.
The next time the Mets are in a position to retaliate,
specifically against Clements, was two thousand and two. So two
years later, and that's when Sean Estes was on the
team and he threw behind Clemens with the pitch he

(19:54):
got the warning, and that the Met players were all
ticked off at shawan Este because anything was. Clements was
hitting at Chase Stadium at the time, and they were like,
here's our chance to get this guy back for what
he did to Piazza, and Sean just didn't hit him.
So the Met players were met at their own picture.
But my point was the Mets waited two years. So
the idea that the Dodgers are now finally going to

(20:16):
play the Astros after you know, the reports of the
cheating scan that came out and people were wondering how
they were what was going to happen? My whole time.
The whole time, I was thinking, the culture of baseball
is such that they're going to handle justice on the
field and they'll let major League Baseball do whatever they want.
Once that happens. I knew that they were going to
throw at somebody, and that's probably still going to continue

(20:39):
at some point down the road. You know, they'll probably
try to get them again. I knew that the Dodgers
going to do that. I thought it was interesting with
Kelly though, what what do you make of him? Kind
of like he's walking away from Korea and and and
giving him a hard time and I guess he said
nice swing, b or whatever it was. But but you know,
it's almost like baseball. I almost felt like baseball needed

(21:02):
that a little bit to kind of take the focus
off of what was going on with the Marlins, put
kind of the attention back on the field, and it
was a socially distance baseball brawl. Yeah. I think if
there was no coronavirus or no mask or anything like that,
I actually think the teams would have been fighting. So
I don't think it's a bad deal at all for
Major League Baseball for people to be mad at Rob

(21:22):
Manfred for something that's related to an on field product
as opposed to what happened with the Miami Marlins. And uh,
and I think Baseball has weathered that storm initially. Now
people are angry about the Joe Kelly suspension, and I
think it's in It just brings back home the hypocrisy
of the granting immunity to Houston Astro players in order

(21:45):
to participate in that investigation, which I think was probably
the initial sin or the initial flaw, however you want
to characterize it of Baseball's investigation into the astro cheating scandal. Um.
But yeah, I I I think with Major League Baseball
now being able to get to the NBA games starting
on Thursday and then the NHL starting on Saturday, it

(22:08):
appears that they have weathered the Marlin storm and that
there isn't going to be this massive up swell of
oh my god, you can't continue to play baseball, and look,
we're going to continue to have outbreaks. But on Monday,
I don't know, if you were very active on Twitter
on Monday. On Monday, you would think that Major League
Baseball was basically over. Uh. If you read certainly a

(22:31):
lot of people in sports media, they were saying, Oh,
there's no way you can play the NFL. Now, oh
my god, major League Baseball has got to suspend the season.
And I actually think man for it in the Major
League Baseball owners and the players too as well, all
handled that outbreak story about as well as they could have,
because it would have been easy to feed into the
hysteria and potentially, once you stop something, it's hard to

(22:54):
get started again. And so I thought Baseball did a
pretty good job just staying the course. And I think,
you know, I know, we referenced this a lot. I
think if you go back to what happened in Europe,
you know, Germany was the you know, the really the
first major sports league to come back, the German Soccer League,
and when they first came back, there was a lot
of players that were testing positive, and a lot of

(23:16):
people saw it thought well, this is the reason why
you can't do it, because this is gonna be the case.
But they kind of forged ahead and they just did
a lot of testing, and they had obviously the proper
protocol in place, and they were able to pull it off.
And I think Baseball did take kind of a pretty
drastic step with what they did. They told the Morons,
we're gonna shut you down for a few games. We're

(23:37):
gonna shut the Yankees and the Phillies down, which really
didn't have to do because it turns out that none
of the Philly players I guess they're still testing them
and that came back negative and actually will probably be
a good wake up call for everyone that's just to
follow the protocol. And it's interesting, I think now when
you watch these games, it was smart with baseball did
where there's like a tent behind the dugout and it

(23:58):
allows now the players to really, you know, sit further
apart from one another. I know that. I saw that
up in Boston at City Field where the Mets play,
they did that as well, So I thought that was
a pretty smart You have the entire stadium, you might
as well you might as well use it. Why is everyone,
you know, just packed together in the dugout. It's another
way that you can kind of handle it. So I
I thought it was smart by baseball. I also think

(24:21):
if they ever got too crazy, you know that maybe
they'll get to a I think they'll be able to
finish the season. But I think if it if this
happened to like four or five or sixteen, where you know,
fifteen and twenty guys had it, you know, they could
probably always shut down for maybe a week or two
weeks and then try to come up with some kind
of bubble idea, because you could have uh different bubbles

(24:42):
because the schedule is regionalized. It's only the American League
East versus the National League East, so on so on,
so you don't have to have everyone in one location,
which would make it a little bit easier. I'm sure
that's something that they're considering, but I'm sure they're pretty
optimistic after what it's gone on in the past couple
of days, with all the negatives coming back. I think
that one of the biggest challenge baseball is gonna have

(25:03):
is when teams start to get eliminated. Uh, you know,
and I know it's gonna be harder because it expanded playoffs,
But let's presume that your team starts off you know,
twenty one and uh and and and or twenty and forty, right,
and as your twenty and thirty five or whatever, and
as you come down the stretch run of the season,
the final five or seven games, I think there's a

(25:24):
good chance that some of the teams that are eliminated
it will just say, screw it, let's go out to
the bar and chase girls, right, because it's like your
last time to be hanging out together. And uh, and
you're on the road and you're in Miami or you're
in a fun city, and you're like, you know what,
we're done with just staying in hotels and not talking
to anybody for a couple of months. What do we care?
Like we don't have any postseason that's coming at all.

(25:46):
I think that's a challenge that major League Baseball will
run into. I actually think the Marlins for now have
probably uh, you know, sort of back in the day,
you know, the slogan was loose lips Sink ships. I
think a lot of people might have thought, Hey, there's
not really anything to worry about here. We're young, we're healthy,
we're not gonna get sick. And then the Marlins go
out it appears socially and all gets sick, and I

(26:08):
think there are a lot of guys who are like, oh, wow,
maybe we do need to hang around the hotels and
uh and limit our exposure. I just don't know how
long that's gonna last. Um, what do you think about
really really quick? And I think that's why what Lou
Williams did. I'm surprised how many people kind of defended
him and said, oh, what's the big deal? Excuse me,
big deal. The NBA is investing millions upon millions of

(26:31):
dollars to create this bubble. You had an excused absence,
and you know, come on, we're all adults here. He
may like the chicken wings at this at Magic City,
does everybody really believe that that's the reason he went.
There's the guy that that runs at chicken wing place.
He opened up business twenty miles away, and I moved

(26:52):
into that place, and my wings are half as good.
Where's the Williams still going to get his wings? He's
driving twenty miles ways. He's still going to Magic City.
I mean, come on, folks, but let's be real about
I thought that was so selfish on his part. I
get it, well, why he did it, But come on, man,
you know that the NBA is investing a lot of
money and and that's and you're gonna do that. I
thought I thought he should have gotten a bigger suspension.

(27:12):
In theory. They're calling it a ten day quarantine. It's
almost like a ten day suspension. I would have given
him a morse of your punishment. Well. Also, the only
reason we caught him is because the rapper posted the picture.
Otherwise he would have never admitted to having done it,
gone back into the quarantine at the NBA's facility, and
potentially punctured the bubble. And everybody gets sick because of
the choices that he made. And Clay one other thing,

(27:35):
remember too, when they took the photo. You know what
their defense was, It was an old picture. Yeah, that's right.
First of all, you're wearing a mask, so how old
is how long have you been? How long have you
been combating disease? On the yah on the start mask?
And it was issued by the NBA that Louilli So
not not a good defense. He needs a better attorney.

(27:56):
What's going to happen in the NBA tonight? You've got
the return of the n b A, two big games
starting at I believe is a six thirty Eastern if
I'm not mistaken. How big it will. What the players
do off the court or on the court before the
game starts overshadow what happens in the games themselves. I

(28:17):
think it will. I think the first time out it will.
And I think that's why the NLS down in Orlando
also at Disney, decided not to play the anthem that
I think they didn't want. You know, that's the league
that wants fans and they want viewers, and I think
they didn't want the entire focus to be you know
what the demonstration was like. I didn't know this for
a fact. I do know that there are a lot

(28:38):
of international players because there's a ton of them in
the league that a little confused. They're not they're not
really sure what to do. A lot of them feel
like they really haven't had a voice in what should happen,
and they're kind of gonna go along with whatever every
other player does. But I think they look at it like,
I'm not from this country. I don't wanna be in
a position where fans are gonna get upset with me

(28:59):
if they think I'm disrespecting the country or the flag.
I also don't want my own teammates. I don't want
to be ostracized by uh, you know, my teammates and
other players in the league. So there's a little confusion
from that as well. I really think what the NBA
should do, and I thought they did it right. Um,
you know, four years ago, and there was a big
thing about what might happen where they locked arms, which

(29:20):
to me, symbolically it's gonna be the day that you know,
it's John Lewis's funeral, and you know, you think of
one of the last times he walked across the bridge
in Alabama, he's locked arms with President Obama. I think
if they the players locked arms and then maybe do
what they've done in Europe and in Major League. So
with the NWS NWSL did right before tip off, maybe

(29:42):
every everybody taking me. So that's why you're doing two
different things. But it sounds like they're gonna kneel during
the anthem. Was if you listen to Adam Silver, it's
you know, they do have a rule on the books.
I don't think they're going to enforce it if it happens.
It doesn't sound like Adam Silver is crazy about the idea.
But I also don't think he's going to tell the players, no, no,

(30:05):
you shouldn't do that. I think he's giving them a
lot of latitude and leeway in this case. Um the
hypocrisy here on the UH, the NBA, potentially players. I'm
curious to see what will happen on Friday. They're gonna
stand for the Chinese sorry for the for the Canadian
national anthem, I'm guessing, and then neil for the United
States national anthem for people out there when the Raptors

(30:27):
are playing, they play the Canadian national anthem and the
United States national anthem on Friday. That's gonna be a
bad look. But I think it's a bad look given
the NBA's relationship with China. Uh and the ESPN has
a really big story that they dropped yesterday afternoon. Isn't
this just going to make that hypocrisy taking the money
from China while not saying a word and aggressively criticizing

(30:52):
American institutions. Isn't that going to make the hypocrisy just
stand out even larger for people who are willing to
pay attention to that. I think it is, and I
think that it's why it goes back to Adam Silver.
I believe this is just my theory. I think he'd
like to see the players do two things. I think

(31:12):
he'd probably prefer that they to stand for the anthem
and then do some other type of demonstration, because let's remember,
you know, no matter how anybody wants to look at it,
rightly or wrongly, I think a majority of people look
at it as something where you're disrespecting the flag. And
it is a business after all, And you know, Adam

(31:33):
Silver is a businessman. The other thirty owners in the
league are businessman, and obviously the NBA owners you know,
you know, they they support the players and a lot
of things that they do, but they also look at
it from a business standpoint and how this you know,
this could hurt them in some ways. And I think
this is what the commissioners and the owners of all
the leagues will worry about. Obviously they feel the players

(31:56):
have a right to protest, but it also comes down
to would you be doing that in theory on company time?
And if we're doing this, isn't going to hurt the
bottom line because guess what, that's what the owners are
in it for and the player And it will affect
the players in a lot of ways too when it
comes down to um the salary cap. But I think

(32:17):
I get the feeling because you know, the NBA players
have been you know, if they're wearing messages on the
back of their jerseys. I just think there will be
I think they will kneel. I'm not sure if it
will be every player, but let's remember some to play.
If we're going to give if the players that kneel
are going to get, you know, praise, and people are
gonna have a not have a problem with it, let's

(32:37):
not get on the players that stand up. I mean,
I know that's been happening in some of the other league.
You know, if you have the right to kneel. Then
let's show a little bit of respect to for the
people for whatever reason that they want to stand. Remember
what happened with Drew Brees and he came out and
made that statement, he got the guy got absolutely killed.
You know, let's let's you know, let's be for everyone's right. Popular.

(32:59):
I think it's able to stand right now than it
is to kneel, which is how upside down the world
has become. It's braver to stand for the national anthem
than it is to kneel, because, especially in some of
these leagues, the majority of players are kneeling, so you're
almost like a sheep if you follow along with the
kneeling and standing is is now the gesture of bravery here,

(33:20):
which is pretty wild. Uh. Notre Dame in the a SEC,
what do you think about the fighting Irish? First time
since eight seven they'll be competing for a conference championship?
And how optimistic are you feeling about college football in general? Well,
if I'm the a c C, I'm absolutely thrilled because
now I'm getting every Notre Dame. You know, all my

(33:42):
games are gonna be against Notre Dame or the games
that they play. You know the ratings will be terrific.
I think the one thing about college football, which would
be a little bit complicated, we do know that these
colleges do want to um you know, they want to
make sure that the kids are saved, but they also
want school to happen because it's a lot of money involved.

(34:02):
I'm still iffy about college football. I think the NFL
could pull it off just because it's a more controlled environment,
your training facility, you're only playing the eight road games
college football. They I think there's still a chance that
they can do it, But I just wonder with a
lot of these schools that they're thinking, you know what,
if we don't have students here, maybe we shouldn't be
doing this, And think about all the sports, the fall

(34:24):
sports that have been canceled in some of these conferences.
So to me, football I still believe is fifty fifty.
I'm a lot more optimistic about the NFL. Good stuff
is always Frankie Soul, appreciate you hanging out with us.
We'll talk to you next week. All right, Thanks a lot.
This is outkicked the coverage with Clay's traffics. I think

(34:48):
we got a couple of people who went away, and
let's go first to walk in Willie, which got for
me walking Willie. Alright, crazy, there's no Chinese. You know.
I had a shirt made, uh called Free Free Hong
Kong and the people look at me like they like
I'm cuckoo. But but I've been to Hong Kong. They

(35:10):
got a good casino over there. Macau. Yeah you were
in then you were in the navy, right Willie, Yes, sir,
and so you served and you you went to Hong Kong.
You got to travel around the world, Yes, sir, I did.
And the people used to go on the roof talk.
When you tell a trailers not to do something, that's

(35:31):
what they're gonna do. So Chinese people, they are nice
over there and over there now at the NBA, I
didn't know that the NBA was in Cahoo with the Chinese.
We're doing time. When the British owned uh, Hong Kong Kong,
it was all it was all right, but then again

(35:54):
we started making it. Stuff in our open meal was
a saucer they made in made in town. Now I'm
going to foot lockers and I've been cuter than people.
Soon or later they don't go gonna be on the
land because they listening then, because we're dined here in
New Orleans. We don't believe do those things? But uh,

(36:18):
I vote two yeo shitties, you know, back the uh
uh pirstic commandment. Yeah, and I got it from a
little place in doctor the Company. Willie, you're with me
that you're you're a believer in the first Amendment of boobs.
Oh yes, sir, will You've traveled all over the world.

(36:44):
What what country has the best looking women? Oh? You
know Australia, Yes, indeed. And the people don't there actually
have a religion. Nobody don't come about that. You know.
The people took the peoples, all the convicts and is

(37:14):
I think Willie's breaking up with Willie? Willie, thank you, Willie.
I still need to get your package happy birthday. I
know you turned to eighty recently. Let me get a
couple of other calls in there. Willie was breaking up
with us. He's fantastic down in New Orleans. Australia has
the best looking women in the world. According to Willie,
we got a lot of people actually listened to the
show in Australia. So congratulations, uh to to all of
you on the land. Down under there. Who's up next?

(37:36):
I think we got out kick v I p right,
Yeah we do. Fred in Florida, Fred, what you got
for me? Yeah? I'm sorry to uh display to go
against Willie, but man, Brazil, Brazil has got some times
best looking women in the world, according to you Brazil.
It's a strong argument too. Yeah, you know, we should
do a power ranking on that. Um uh, you know,
I find myself. I love the NBA, I watch it,

(37:59):
but it's so concluded right now in double standards, I
can't even stomach it anymore. Everything that you said. I'm
actually surprised that ESPN dropped that story ship with the NBA,
But it's almost like maybe they're trying to get back
some of the people that they've lost with how they've
been reacting. I think it's a good question by you.
I think ESPN once Woed sent the fu email, I

(38:23):
think they felt compelled to have to address the inherent
hypocrisy in the NBA being praised all everywhere over their
activism while taking billions of dollars from what is frankly
the modern day. The closest thing the Nazis in the
world today is the Chinese government and if the NBA

(38:45):
players really wanted to take a stand and sacrifice, wouldn't
this be the greatest cost to do it for is
against China and against what they do um to their
own people. And Uh, I've saw some Chinese commercials that
you find on the web and oh my god, there
they have whole developments where they move black men out

(39:05):
the development. Yeah, China is an thanks for the call, uh,
and for being an OutKick and for being an OutKick
v I P. China is incredibly racist. I mean the
idea that you would embrace Chinese Nazi values, that's what
they are in the NBA in exchange for money and
ridicule American democratic values is one of the most rank

(39:27):
hypocrisy's I've ever seen before in the history of American sports,
and most in the media are giving them a complete pass.
Be sure to catch live editions about kick the Coverage
with Clay Travis weekdays at six am Eastern three am Pacific.
You're just waking up with us three big stories that
are out there. NBA returning not sure that the microscope

(39:49):
has ever been more substantially trained upon them when you
look at the hypocrisy in the league, as they prepare
to make an incredibly substantial social justice warrior statement. The
silence on China continues to grow. The hypocrisy is insane.
Speaking of hypocrisy, Joe Kelly gets eight games for not

(40:11):
even hitting a Houston Astros player, even though no Houston
Astros player was actually suspended at all for the cheating scandal.
Big swinging a miss there for Rob Manfred and the
a c C releases their plan for college football season
ten conference games plus potentially one more in state game.

(40:32):
Uh if that is able to happen, and Notre Dame
will be joining the a c C for the season
and playing ten conference games, first year that Notre Dame
will have been a member in the a c C
sent sorry, a member of any conference since eightenight seven,
since they started playing college football in the first place.

(40:55):
Gonna bring in the crew of those three, which once
hands out to you as being the most significant story
we spent a lot of time I did talking about them.
To me, it's the NBA in China. Because the NBA's
China relationship was blown up by a major ESPN story
that came out yesterday afternoon. Now I'm curious whether they'll

(41:18):
talk about that story at all on ESPN television. But
for many people, myself included, and I think many people
who are listening to us right now, the idea that
the NBA is quote unquote a woke social justice warrior
league yet they are taking billions of dollars from China
is an inherent hypocrisy that the league has to address

(41:42):
in some way. So I know, I said, which is
the biggest story, but let's start there. Danny G will
you be thinking about that at all in the back
of your mind as the NBA makes whatever statement they
make to return their season. Well, it's gonna be hard
not to think about that, especially working on our kick
and hearing many monologues about it, and not just that.

(42:02):
But I hope that what happens prior to the game
doesn't overshadow. I think it probably will, and I think
it will at first two. And my question is will
we recover from it? With baseball? You spent one morning
talking about Mookie Bets and a little bit of it,
and then it blew over pretty quickly. I I don't
know this is a good question for you, because I
haven't watched the start of any baseball games. Uh, to

(42:25):
to speak, of I mean, I watched last night's Dodgers
Astros game and everything else, but it's a small minority
of the overall players that are making any kind of
statement in baseball. And also, uh, to be fair, like
baseball made a big deal about how you know, like
for the first game they had BLM on the mound
and everything else. It doesn't really seem like there's any

(42:46):
sort of integrated portion of the game now where that's
really noticeable, right, I mean, if you're just turning on
a baseball game, I think the most noticeable thing about
a baseball game is how often they cut to the
shots of the crowd if there's nobody there. But you've
watched more baseball than I have, it doesn't seem like
the baseball players really want to get that involved in

(43:08):
social justice because for the most part, I haven't seen
any conversations about it well, and I think a lot
of it has to do with the television networks who
are covering the actual game. You don't see the national
anthem before most That's what I was gonna say. They
go right to the game. Baseball quickly transition to what
was happening on the field. Even the announcers switched their
attention to the rivalry between the Dodgers and the Astros

(43:31):
most recently. So, yeah, you're right. Now it's just about baseball.
I'm wondering with the NBA, can that transition happen? Well?
I think one reason is nobody really covered Mookie Betts.
I think that Baseball put out notice to their I
really believe this happened. I think Baseball put out notice
to their television partners and said, hey, we're going to

(43:54):
make a statement on the opening Thursday night. Cover it.
And then if you guys turn this into to a
huge story, it's gonna really hurt your ratings on television.
You better just move on from it. And because I
haven't heard, like Mookie Bets a pretty big name guy
to be kneeling right, he's the biggest name athlete who's
ever taken a knee before, And almost immediately there was

(44:16):
no coverage of that story. And I don't think they're
playing any of the national anthem before the start of games.
You can tweet me and let me know they're not rightly.
Usually it's just a big thame for like Opening Day
with yeah, right, I assume they're playing the national anthem
in the stadiums before the games are played, which is

(44:37):
a little bit strange without fans president at all. But
the reason why I'm bringing this up is I wonder
if after tonight's NBA games, which are gonna be just
crazy like the start of Major League Baseball, will whether
ESPN is going to start cutting out the national anthems
and so the only thing you'll see. I don't even
know if they'll have player introductions because player introduction seems

(45:01):
ridiculous to me when there's no crowd there either, like
we know who the players are. To me, why can't
you just start the game when basically the players are
walking out for the tip? Yeah, so I think that's intriguing. Duble,
What what do you think are you going to think
about the hypocrisy when all the bells and whistles of
the NBA season begin this evening? Yeah? I think Danny

(45:23):
g put it best. It's hard not to when all
these stories come out, especially the ESPN story, and I
agree with that caller. I was my first reaction when
I saw the ESPN stories. I was pretty shocked at
ESPN even did that story, considering their relationship with the NBA.
And the television rights and that deal that they have.
So that was really maybe the first thing I thought

(45:43):
of initially when I saw that story was Wow. I'm
kind of just surprised that ESPN even ran with the story.
I think they felt compelled to, honestly, after the woe
j Fu email UM. I wonder if they would have
run the story if that didn't happen. I I really do, UM,
And I'll be curious, to their credit they dropped the story,

(46:07):
meaning they released it. I'll be curious if they talk
about it at all on any ESPN programming because the story,
I mean again, there is someone in there who says, like,
basically the NBA's relationship with China, these basketball camps they
were on, it's like Nazi Germany. And I just think

(46:27):
there are a lot of Americans and I we talked
about this with Whitlocks, and people say, why do you care?
And I care because China sent a virus around the
world that they helped to try to cover up. It
may have come out of a Chinese laboratory and China.
The coronavirus which came out of China is going to

(46:48):
be more devastating to the American economy than anything Nazi
Germany did to us in the nineteen thirties or the
nineteen forties. More people directly are inpacted by the coronavirus
and China's mishandling of it and potential creation of this
strain from a laboratory in Wuhan. It still is unclear

(47:12):
exactly where this virus came from or how it got
out of China. There's a lot of intelligence evidence that
suggests that it was being manipulated in some way in
a Chinese laboratory and then got out. But the fact
that China didn't stop the spread of this virus and

(47:32):
that it's now spread all around the world, that first
of all, is more devastating to the American economy than
anything Nazi Germany did uh to our economy. All right, Second,
I just I can't stop thinking about the degree to
which our social media is being used and manipulated by

(47:55):
people in China, by people in Russia, by American enemies
or ound the world to make us fight internally while
China is kicking our ass, and we're not even aware
that we're getting our ass kicked by China because we're
so mad at each other in this country, and so
I really think that part of my job is to

(48:17):
point out when American sports are being used as propaganda
and as points of division and we are missing the
larger issue here. I'm I'm not old, at least I
don't feel old, but I'm old enough to remember the
Cold War with Russia, and right now we are in

(48:38):
a Cold War with China. Only it feels like China's
the only ones that recognize this is going on, and
they are manipulating and dividing us, and they're using a
lot of famous people in America, a lot of athletes
to drive down and destroy American in institutions, which makes

(49:01):
us weaker, which allows China's influence around the globe to increase.
In China right now, people always talking this is a
big deal. People talk love to talk about being on
the right side of history. That's a phrase that has
gotten really popular, and frankly, it's a phrase that people

(49:22):
who don't study history very often embrace. And you're talking
to a guy who spent his life as a as
a history as as someone who who is obsessed with history,
right um, and so one of the things you learn
is history makes you humble because you find out that
many things you thought were correct are not actually correct.

(49:46):
If you study history, it can take hundreds of years
for quote unquote, the right side of history to be revealed.
But what it doesn't take any time at all to
know is that being on the side of basic human
rights is the right side of history. Being on the
side of the First Amendment of freedom of speech, of

(50:09):
freedom of religion, being on the right side of women
being able to choose how many kids they want to have,
those are all easy decisions to make to be on
the right side of history. Right now, the NBA and
it's players, it's coaches, it's executives, they are choosing to
be on the side of modern day Nazis in China.

(50:32):
They are ripping American institutions to the high heavens while
simultaneously shutting up and dribbling for China. And that is
going to be on display for everyone in America tonight
with the return of the NBA. The hypocrisy is going
to be more glaring and apparent than I have ever

(50:54):
seen before in the history of American sports. This would
be like if back in the nineteen thirties American American
athletes had decided to kneel for the national anthem in
Major League Baseball, which was one of America's America's past
time back in the day, because they were upset at

(51:14):
the things that America stood for while they were simultaneously
taking money from Nazi Germany and weren't saying a word
about Adolph Hitler. So you want to talk about the
right side of history. NBA players are denigrating American institutions
and values which are unquestionably on the right side of history,

(51:37):
and they aren't saying a word about modern day Nazis
in China. And I just sit here and I think
to myself, how in the world are all these sports
media members who claimed that they want to cover the
truth not actually speaking truth to power to NBA players
and owners and executives. I mean, if Adam Silver had

(52:01):
a spine at all, he would say, we are walking
away from China because we reject the values that they
represent right now in the world. Instead, Adam Silver said
that the NBA had mutual respect for China. It's unfathomable
to me that this is allowed to happen and that

(52:23):
many people in the American sports media are going to
praise to the high heavens whatever NBA players do tonight
while not even mentioning the rank hypocrisy of their actions
as it pertains to China. And I don't know if
it's because most people in American sports media are not
smart enough to understand actually significant issues, Like it's relatively

(52:46):
easy to have an opinion on an eight game suspension
for Joe Kelly, right, I think the NBA. I think
Major League Baseball got that wrong. It's relatively easy to
have an opinion on Notre Dame playing in the a
c C. That's a that's a fun story, and there
are lots of people in sports media that will have
opinions on it. But wouldn't you rather have an opinion

(53:08):
about something that actually matters in the sport in which
you cover, which is NBA athletes and owners and coaches
all being awful hypocrites and embracing basically modern day Nazism
in China, with the concentration camps, with the increasing attempts
to grab more and more power and influence and land,

(53:33):
with what they're doing to Hong Kong, and all of
this directly connected to the Darryl more A tweet. I mean,
make no mistake about it. The NBA is taking Chinese
blood money and saying nothing at all about it, And
so what is your I mean, what is your point
in talking about sports if you're gonna come on and

(53:53):
praise NBA players, coaches, and athletes and organizations for taking
a stand and ignore the fact that they are refusing
to take a stand in exchange for money about the
biggest human rights issues in their lifetime. People want to
compare Lebron James to Mohammed Ali. Mohammad Ali wouldn't have

(54:14):
stood for what China is doing. If Lebron was really
brave and really wanted to take a stand, he'd be
willing to risk space jam to not showing in Beijing
movie theaters in order to say I support basic human
rights around the world. He won't say it. He will
not criticize China. Neither will Steve Kerr, neither will Gregg Popovich.

(54:38):
Every time Donald Trump sends a tweet, these dudes come
out and ripped Donald Trump to the high heavens, but
they won't say we support democracy in China. You're fine
ripping American institutions when there's no risk to you whatsoever.
In fact, when the stupid American sports media will actually

(54:58):
praise you for doing so, but you won't say a
negative word about China at all, because you're fine taking
modern day Nazi blood money. As long as China wants
you to shut up and dribble, you will do it
more than an athlete, my ass, Eddie, you do updates
all the time. Are you going to find it impossible

(55:20):
not to think about the hypocrisy when the NBA players
make whatever statement they do before the season starts. Yeah,
especially since I think that is going to be the
big story because these aren't Remember, these aren't playoff games.
These are quote unquote regular season games that really don't
mean anything. I know that Danny gen Roberto and NBA

(55:41):
fans will be excited because it's the first real games.
But if I'm curious if this story would have come
out if the NBA playoffs were starting tonight and and
everyone was really invested right from the get go. I
wonder if this story would have come out or not.
And I agree with you, I don't think I will
give ESPN credit for coming out with the story. I

(56:01):
don't think it's gonna it's gonna be a hot topic
on a lot of their shows. If you look on
their website right now, it's not even listed on any
of their top headlines. Oh. They they brought it out
and then they kind of buried it. Rutgers football outbreak
is is they've got that listed but not not now
what do you think Do you think it's because most
people in sports media are not smart enough to talk
about this issue, so they run away from it, or

(56:22):
do you think they're afraid to be like why would
this not be a lead story everywhere? When you think
about the significance of this story? Is it like you
do updates, so you're in literally in the news business
of deciding what news stories should be. Why do you
think like for all, like national sports shows, I bet

(56:46):
I am one of the only, if not the only
show that will actually spend substantial time talking about this
on a program today. Why do you think that is? Well?
I think look there, to me, there's US and there's ESPN,
and the the rest of them are just kind of there. Yeah,
and ESPN obviously has a relationship with the NBA. I mean,
so you think that ESPN talents being told, hey, you

(57:09):
can't talk about China. I think that's part of it. Yeah,
may be true. I mean, there may there may have
been a memo that goes out to you know, all
the different ESPN shows and says, hey, we're not going
to talk about the NBA's relationship with China. And if so,
if that's actually occurring, then you, as the American sporting public,
deserve to know that because I value here's what I

(57:33):
value more than anything. You may not agree with me,
but no one is telling me at all what my
opinion can be on any subject under the sun. Any
day when I sit down in front of this mic,
and I think everybody will agree on the show, I
don't ever come on and say, hey, your opinion has
to be X or Y. Have I ever told I mean,
you guys don't have to agree with anything that I say.

(57:54):
And the point is the First Amendment is alive and
well on this show. And I think that's why this
show is growing so massively because I think inherently a
lot of you out there listening feel like other people
that you listen or watch are not telling you what
they actually think and or they're not being completely honest
with you. I'm not saying I'm perfect. I get things

(58:16):
wrong all the time. My predictions are wrong. If I
get a factor wrong, I try to come on and
be like, hey, I got a fact wrong. That's what
I really care about, getting honest truth in front of you.
My opinions based on those facts can sometimes be wrong.
But I mean, I think there's a reason why this
is the most honest show anywhere in sports media, and
I think it's because I frankly wouldn't do it. If

(58:39):
somebody set me down and said, hey, you can only
talk about these three topics today, I'd be like, all right,
piece out, I'm done. I mean, since I started this show,
I said I'll do it. But I have to have
complete authority over every subject that we do every single day,
and their credit, Fox Sports Radio gave it to me.
But I don't think there are very many people in
my business who have that, and I think there are

(59:00):
also a lot of people who are afraid, uh in
order to do at Roberto, do you think will this
be in the back of your mind when all the
NBA players are making their statements tonight, the fact that hey,
you're taking billions of dollars from modern day Nazis and
not saying a word about them, but you want to
tear down American values and institutions. Honestly, man, I don't
think I'll be thinking about it. Are you gonna watch?

(59:22):
I'm gonna watch, But then I'm I'll probably be switching
back and forth from the Lakers and Dodging game. You know,
I don't I don't care about players stance on social
issues and you know, or what for what they stand
or don't stand for. I don't care whether they're player.
I think that's actually the vast majority of fans. Yeah,
I don't care perspective. Yeah, I don't care whether player
leans left or right. I watched sports to enjoy the competition,
to you know, and to watch hofully my team's winning,

(59:45):
and for the love I had for the game when
that I used to play. That's the reason why I watched.
I think it's hard. I'm curious to see how they're
going to cover it, because it was impossible to watch
the start of Major League Baseball without like fifteen minutes
of political statements being made, and I think there's gonna
be a massive amount of political statements being made tonight
by the NBA. Unfortunately, if you're going to get into politics,

(01:00:06):
the most important political statement, which is we absolutely uh
and without equivocation, condemn everything that China stands for. You're
not going to hear it from a single NBA player,
executive or coach. Uh Danny G. Do you want to
give us one? Will get one? Maybe each segment. Do
you have a book review that you liked? Somebody who's

(01:00:27):
gonna hear and get a five stars? Thank you for
all the five star reviews. I'm assuming there are a
lot of them out there. There are hundreds, and I
picked five winners, all right, so one, just give us
one right now? And one from Travis Fiala. That's his
iTunes handle spot on as his title. I've been a
long time listener to OutKick the coverage with Clay Travis.
Where else can you find out where to get the

(01:00:49):
best chicken wings, fries and buffets at strip clubs? I
am patiently waiting for your guys, is best taco recommendations?
Keep doing what you're doing, Clay Travis. Alright there, there
you go. There's a five star review. Appreciate all the
five star reviews. Go give us a five star review,
and you can get an autographed copy of my book.
Right now, as we go to break, we're about to

(01:01:09):
be joined by Shannon Spake, This is outkicked the coverage
with Clay Travis breaking news. L A just got hit
with an earthquake? How bad was it? That was pretty big? Man? Like,
how would you compare it to I was out for?
Was it last year's? Like that? They had the Kauai
signing right like last July? About a here a go.

(01:01:29):
Weren't you here for two earthquakes I've been I've been
out in. It was bigger than those. Man, I've never
seen Eddie's eyes get so wide. He stood up and
it was like, yeah without that one was one of
those quick hitters, like it rocked us for a second.
Uh so it's what four thirty in the morning in
l A. What percentage of people sleeping? Do you think

(01:01:51):
I've woken up by that? I just got a text
with my brother, sister in all animal everybody, everybody's waking up,
all right? So is there a way you guys? Can't
you surge? Isn't there an immediate um? Isn't there an
immediate way to see what the four point five? Oh
you guys are? What is four point But it must

(01:02:12):
have been right under us? Yeah, it's San Fernando right here. Yeah,
that's four point five. Four point five is not huge
when you're on the outskirts of it, but when it's
right under Yeah, what did they have like a uh,
what was the one that hit last year? Like a seven?
I thought it was like that was the Ridgecrest one.
The one that hit wasn't in l A. That was

(01:02:34):
in the mountains. Yeah, that was a hundred miles away.
But I mean that one really was pretty substantial in
the shake. I mean, but this, so this one was
right underneath you guys, Yeah, San Fernando, Yeah, this was.
This was This is the most shaking I think I've
been been a part of since I moved here. It's
like twenty years. Oh wow. So, I mean it's based
on proximity though, but four or five is not that

(01:02:55):
big of an earthquake. Hopefully it wasn't a pre limb
for something bigger. Just gotta extreme veto, he says. I
was just about to get on the freeway. My car
was shaking. Yeah. Usually that's one of those interesting things
like a lot of people who are in cars driving
you don't necessarily feel it the same way, like when
when both of them hit in l A last year.
I was on like the fifteen floor of a hotel,

(01:03:17):
and that's that's where I've been in. I've been in
three earthquakes in California, all of them that I would
call decent sized. I mean where you're like, whoa, the
whole board was shaken here and the minors are all shaken. Yeah,
you guys are on the first floor at least, being
up up top, being high up in a building, and
you can actually fill the building swaying because the way
they build them to to be able to kind of

(01:03:40):
roll with the with the waves. That's pretty scary. Well,
hopefully for everybody waking up right now, Hi, I'm Clay Um.
Appreciate you guys being up in the middle of the
night for many of you listening to me, but on
the West coast anyway. But also hopefully it's not a
pre limb to a more substantial earthquake, right because uh
didn't we do we ever have the earthquake lady on.

(01:04:02):
We did request her and she just gave us the heisman.
I think so because of the hours of the show.
Yeah right, well, I mean this is a big, big
time for her, and also it's typical that we would
have a massive at least right underneath your feet earthquake,
even though it was only a four five. So there's
some data points about, you know, the likelihood of other

(01:04:24):
earthquakes based on that one that just took place. Uh,
so hopefully you guys will be okay. Everybody's good. We're
good here. Everybody's keeping rolling. Do we have Shannon on
the field. Shannon's ready to go. Shannon, You're in Charlotte.
So is the ground safe beneath your feet right now?
That was a while. Man, Danny. Danny called me and
all of a sudden, he's like, whoa, We're on an earthquake.

(01:04:44):
I'm like, what have you ever been in an earthquake? Um?
One time I was out there for a NASCAR race
in Fontana and it was so I mean, it was
so slight that I didn't it sounded like something like
someone was moving furniture above me, and I realized that
was on the top floor of the hotel. And then
when I got to the track, somebody said, hey, did
you feel that earthquake? And I was like, man, that's

(01:05:05):
what it was. But I grew up in Florida, so
we had the hurricanes obviously, Like you know, hurricanes are coming.
You have time to prepare for them. So I don't
care what the magnitude of an earthquake is or was,
I would be frightened. I'd be frightened for the aftershocks
to right, don't they say that those come? Yeah, that
that often happens. I mean, I think if you're not
from California, one of the first things you think when

(01:05:27):
you start traveling to California is, oh, you know, there
might be an earthquake there because you're not used to it.
And so I've been in three of them, all decent sized.
I was in San Diego for one probably like that's
probably a decade ago. That one hit San Diego area
was a pretty decent sized, and then I was in
l A for both I think of the last two
decent sized earthquakes that happened. And that was back what

(01:05:49):
that was back in July of last year, right, Danny
g Like that was when the night that Kauai agreed
to join the Clippers. The day that was the day
of the pretty big earthquake. Yeah, well Twitter is going
crazy right now, so it was. It was definitely big
because people are saying that they just got woken like
they were woken up from their sleep. So, yeah, it
seems like it was pretty big. I hope you guys
are doing okay. Yeah, they sound like they're fine. Um,

(01:06:12):
don't even know what was going on. I'm like, I mean,
I mean, I was just the way you guys were reacting.
I mean, when I to find out it's only a
four or five, I mean, I I don't want to
tell you to to d bap, but I mean, come on, like, uh,
four or five. I mean, I don't I feel like
last year's Like again, it's based on proximity, but I
feel like last year's was like a seven. Yeah, and

(01:06:32):
the fish was two ft big too, right, Clay, Yeah, yeah, exactly,
Um yeah, um, So let's let's do what were the
earthquake is has has taken everything out of out of
whack here? What is going on in your life? Shannon? Yeah, So,
you know, I was looking forward to talking to you
actually about school. What's what's going on with your kids? School? Yeah?

(01:06:54):
So it's a it's a hybrid system here, and I
don't even know how they've ended up reaching this goal.
But for the first two weeks of the so they
set up a a chart based on the prevalence of
the infection in the part of Nashville that we live in,
and if it's like at point five or above, it's

(01:07:14):
a mixed partial present, partially not present. So my kindergartener
gets to go full time to school. So kindergarten through
second grade where we live in the Nashville area, everybody goes.
So all kindergarten through second graders starting in early August,
and then everything from third grade on up is actually

(01:07:37):
not uh not going in person for the first two weeks.
So for my kids, uh my, I was I was
most concerned about my kindergartener. So I'm glad he's going
to go to school because he was so excited to
get started at school. And I think the younger the
kids are, the more difficult remote learning is. But but
the way they actually have a scale where you can
look at it, and if it's under point five, everybody goes,

(01:08:01):
and it looks like it's going to be under point
five very soon. So my hope is that after a
couple of weeks or maybe by by Labor Day, everybody,
all the kids around us are going to be in school.
What about yours? Yeah, So my kids are a private
school and here in North Carolina, it's interesting. So the
private schools are going back full time, right, no, no restrictions.
I think kids in sixth and older wear masks, but

(01:08:23):
anyone below fifth does not. And um, yeah, and then
the public schools and then the charter schools are doing
some kind of hybrid. See. My biggest concern is this,
like what happens when someone in the school contracts it
and then we get sent home and we're not prepared
to do any kind of online learning? Right, and then
it's a fire drill to get things up and moving.
And then is it more detrimental on the kids to

(01:08:43):
start school full time and then have to come out
if something like that happened? So I think my biggest
thing is is like, so what is the plan when
and if? Right? Because you know that the odds of
someone contracting this at some point is pretty good, right,
and then and then what happens in So that's that's
my biggest concern with them going after school full time.
But yeah, they're they're back in and they're going to

(01:09:04):
start it. I guess August seventeen is when our schools
go back, so it'll be it'll be interesting to see
how things go. Then, will you watch the NBA at
all tonight? Yeah, I'll watch it a little bit. You know,
I've been I've been catching I don't know if it's
been practices or I think I think it's jarring to
me when I've watched some of the FAMILYSS stuff, how
quiet it is inside those It almost reminds me like

(01:09:25):
the Summer League a little bit. I'll watch it just
to see how it goes, you know. Listen, I've been
listening to your show all week, obviously, and following the
stuff that's been going on. To Lou Williams saying that
the Marlins UH player potentially picked off, I would be mad,
mad mad, Right, I've got friends that are in that
bubble right now. They've been there. My one girlfriend did

(01:09:47):
thirty one COVID COVID nineteen test thirty one two. Now
if you're speaking something in my nose thirty one time.
So I don't know if that's the way they're still
doing it, or if I'm not around my family, I'm
missing my friends, like and there, and and one of
these players and sides he wants to just go out like,
I would be really mad, I mean, well, and listen
to Clay. We're all we're all waiting to see what

(01:10:10):
happens with NFL, with college football, with everything, and just
like with NASCAR when NASCAR went back, everybody's watching to
see how it's done, watching to see if it can
be done. And so if you throw off the curve,
like that's affecting everything in sports, right, So yeah, I'd
be really ticked off a thought, and I am because
I mean, this would affect me to write NFL College

(01:10:33):
all of this stuff. It does all have an effect
on where we move in terms of live sporting events.
If you found out your husband was at a strip
club and he said, well, no, no, no, babe, I
wasn't at the strip club. I went to buy chicken
wings at the strip club, your response would be, what
I don't. I mean, listen, I'm like, it just depends

(01:10:54):
on what my marriage is, like, I think, right, I
think if my husband did it, I'd probably laugh because
I probably would have known, but I would be mad
that he left the bubble and would irresponsible, right, I mean,
like you've just been in his bubble. You're you're leaving
me for how how long? And you're going to be
over there and this is what you decided to do,
you know, And so that's what I think I would

(01:11:16):
be upset about. But I mean, if my husband went
to get chicken wings in the Strip Club, I'd probably
be like, were they good? What? By the way, did
they tell Have they told you guys anything about with
the NFL players starting to get back, have you guys
had any meetings about what covering the NFL might be like?
Or is everything just on pause as they figure out everything.

(01:11:37):
I think everything is so rapidly changing, right, I mean,
I'm just waiting waiting to hear. And I don't know
if it would be I mean, listen, so Fox Sports,
we obviously had pit reporters at you know, NASCAR events,
so we we sent people to the NASCAR events. We
sent pit reporters to the NASCAR event. So I think
it would be I mean, it's either a Fox Sports
decision or it's an NFL decision to see if sideline

(01:11:59):
reporters or reporters or or how many people can be
on the field like essential, essential people, right, And so
I think we're all just on standby to see what happens.
We're on standby to see what the NFL season is
going to look like who's going to play? I just
read that like the Detroit Lions, their their COVID nineteen
handbook is like bigger than their playbook in terms of
what they should avoid and what they should do. So listen,

(01:12:22):
I'm fully prepared to get down there. Employees prepared to
get tested. I'm fully prepared to walk the walk and
and do what I need to do to keep myself
safe and my kids safe obviously. So again, all of
us are watching the NBA, all of us are watching
Major League Baseball. All of us are watching these things
to see how these other organizations aren't doing it and
getting back to normal. So that's what that I mean.

(01:12:43):
That makes me mad to hear that players have left
and and aren't just taking this as as serious as
we all are. Shannon, I appreciate the time the earthquake,
literally you made the world rock as you were online
and getting ready to talk with us. We will talk
to you next week. I appreciate you getting up early
and uh enjoy the sports all rolling back this weekend. A. Yeah,

(01:13:05):
that is Shannon Spake. We come back. We'll find out
from the earthquake crew whether everything is still good again,
if you're just waking up. Hello, Good morning Los Angeles.
I see everybody on my Twitter feed. This is outkicked
the coverage with clay traffics, del A shaken legitimately. Blue

(01:13:27):
EMU Maximum Pain Relief works fast, you won't stink. It's
pharmacists recommended odor free pain relief for muscle pain, backache, strain, sprains,
or even arthritis. No stinging or burning involved. It's simple
pain relief. Blue EMU Maximum Pain Relief works fast and
you won't stink. Question do we have an earthquake policy
in place? Like? What if the earthquake was so bad

(01:13:48):
that the l A studio got knocked out? Dub, do
you have the ability to get me back on air?
I think so? Do you think so? Do you actually
have the ability to do it? As long as the
equipment over there is in act overwhere. No, that's the point,
that's the whole point. If l A. What let's pretend
that this was not a four five and the earthquake

(01:14:10):
that just hit l A was like a nine five
like in the movie, like in the movie ably named earthquake,
I would probably be knocked off the air because our
show emanates from l A. Is it possible for you, Dub.
Then when everybody out there across the entire nation who
listens to the show is like, oh my god, we
desperately need Clay Travis to be able to talk about

(01:14:32):
the earthquake with us. Would you be able, Dub to
get me back up online so that we could talk
to the nation. Yeah, I have to make a couple
of phone calls like that. We should have an earthquake policy.
What did you say? I just have to make a
couple of phone calls and someone could walk me through it.
I think you're screwed. Ye who feels good about all? Right?
Let this is what you would sound like, Clay. This

(01:14:54):
is what you would sound like during an earthquake. And
I saw that you were trending and it seemed flatline.
Oh no, what just happened to be? That was earlier
in its like he just flatlined. That was earlier in
the week we lost Petro's. So let's pretend to everyone
in the l A studio is dead. Unfortunately, you guys

(01:15:15):
have all died. The whole building has collapsed in the
nine five. Would you pay for our funerals? Yeah, I'd
probably pay for your funerals. I don't. I don't want
the expensive I mean, you can just put us in
a pine box. Well, I don't know. I mean, is
your mom gonna be like? I mean, what do you guys?
Are you buried? Ashes to be? Are you gonna be
created or cremated? And the ash has been drawn in

(01:15:36):
left field? Left field? All right, so I'll get it.
I'll get your ashes Roberto to Dodger Stadium. And I
think the cremation is cheaper. What's your situation, Danny g
Are you in a casket? I would go casket and
I would like to Raiders casket please Raiders. And I
would like the memorial to be at the new Raiders
Stadium at the death start there. What about you, Eddie?

(01:15:57):
Are you cremated? A are you buried? Whatever? I'm dead.
I don't care. So the reason why I ask is
that the cost of the don you go big Lebowski
coffee can if you want. Al right, So but let's go.
Let's get the trio here. Does anyone feel confident that
if we got knocked off the air in l A,
that dub would be able to get me back on

(01:16:19):
the air through the Nashville studio? Negative? Does anybody think
that would happen, or will you be gone for the day.
For the day, we'd yeah, we'd be off the air
for a while. People will be trying to wake Carrass up.
Who's in charge of tech care? Well, he'd be dead.
I mean we're talking about basically, yeah, all of California. No, No,
you're screwed. Then. I don't know what dub would turn

(01:16:41):
a fix it ticket in there? Well, I know what
double do. He'd be trying to call people who are
still sleeping in Nashville. And like, by the way, if
if there's another earthquake that shakes and takes all of
California into the Pacific Ocean, I don't think we're gonna
ever be able to put this podcast up because people
will be like, oh, Clay Travis was so insensitive talking
about So let me just say this. I will pay

(01:17:01):
for all of your funerals, and I hope you don't
die of an earthquake. There is no one who hates
earthquakes more than me on the whole planet. I tell you,
I I'm really anti earthquake. But there's some people out
there they're like, oh, you know earthquakes, didn't really know.
I will take a knee for an earthquake. That's a
strong take. By the way, you were referencing, we can

(01:17:23):
play the national anthem right now in my house, I
will take a knee for an earthquake. I'm not going
to stand for that. You were referencing the Ridgecrest quakes earlier.
They had two memorable ones. One was a five point
five and the one you mentioned was the seven point one.
But think about it hundred miles away from us, which
is why to us here right, So it was just

(01:17:45):
under our feet. That's why it startled us for a second.
But it was a quick hitter. It was like a
quick shot of jolt cola. Did I miss Eddie's update
because I was taking a knee for the earthquake? Yes,
well I got one at the very top. We got
an earthquake, we got an update coming from from Eddie,
and also we'll dive into the three big stories. Plus
I'm gonna keep taking a knee for the earthquake here

(01:18:05):
in my studio. Nobody hates earthquakes more than me. Fox
Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation.
Catch all of our shows at Fox sports radio dot
com and within the I Heart Radio app search f
s R to listen live. Welcome back in l A
has been hit by an earthquake. I've taken a knee.
How long should I have to stay on the knee?

(01:18:26):
You know, I just tweeted. I don't want to brag
or draw attention to myself. I I'm a hero, you know,
to take a knee, I need to speak out against earthquakes.
You're there until our five of our five on the knee,
I don't know that's a long time. Uh, everybody is
safe as the four or five earthquake has hidden l A.
UM as we as we roll into our number three

(01:18:49):
of the program, I am now on the hook for
all of your funerals in the event that you die
of an earthquake, UM, which could be expensive. You know
they've had earthquakes hit Tennessee. What there was a plot
twist and an earthquake kit here instead? Oh, we'd be
okay because then we could keep broadcast. Let's take over
the show. Yeah, you would just take over the show.
You'll be fine. UM. All right, So there are three

(01:19:09):
big stories that are out there. All right, We've got
Joe Kelly getting suspended for eight games. Do you guys
believe and agree that this is absolutely ludicrous. I mean,
I know we've got a couple of Dodger fans on
the show, so I'll start with a non Dodger fans
dub eight games for Joe Kelly, even though the Astros
didn't get a single game. Is this as ridiculous to

(01:19:32):
you as it is even to the Dodger fans? Absolutely,
It literally makes no sense, especially when you think about
what eight games would have equaled in a normal season.
What do you say, twenty two games? Yeah, that's right,
sixty two. This would be a twenty two games suspension.
He's essentially getting a twenty two games suspension here while
the Astros, the team that literally got proven to cheat

(01:19:55):
the Dodgers out of the World Series Championship, no one
on their entire team got one game. It's ridiculous. Uh,
Eddie Garcia, you would agree with us. Yeah, And I
think that there are those who are applauding him for
doing this because not because Joe Kelly endangered someone's life,
but because there can't be any uh any kind of

(01:20:16):
fights or you know, clearing of benches because of the
current environment we are living in. Uh So that's why
a lot of people are are apparently applauding this ridiculous.
I haven't seen anybody applauding this suspension buster only from Yeah,
those guys are are applauding that. That seems like a
ridiculous position to take. I mean, I'm not saying he

(01:20:38):
couldn't be suspended, but in a sixty game season, to
suspend him the equivalent of twenty two games is absolutely insane.
Usually the ball has to hit a player usually yes,
and also, uh, if you do do that, even then
you usually aren't suspended for twenty two games. I mean
that is that is a long long suspension, a special anyway,

(01:21:01):
I just think it's crazy. So that is one story
that is out there. I do think it's cool, uh
positive story that in the a c C they have
a schedule that is out which could theoretically be a
very good positive in terms of bringing back uh Notre
Dame into a conference for the first time ever, going
all the way back to seven, they've never been in

(01:21:22):
a conference. Uh. There one big uncertainty here is what
exactly would happen to big rivalry games For people out
there who are a fan of Clemson, South Carolina Louisville, Kentucky, Georgia,
Georgia Tech, and also for Florida Florida State. There are
ten conference games that are gonna be played in the

(01:21:42):
a SEC, with the expectation that an additional one would
potentially be able to be played in conference, sorry out
of conference in state, so that would leave open the
possibility of those in state games. The SEC has to
figure out what to do. But at least the positive
is out there. If you are a college football fan,

(01:22:05):
things are moving towards the idea that we are going
to actually have a positive here and that the season
will actually be taking place UH in some way in
college football. Now. NBA is back tonight, and the ridiculousness
of the n b A is that ESPN dropped a
huge story about Chinese hypocrisy and everything surrounding it. I

(01:22:30):
I talked about this to start off the program UM
and I talked about it quite a bit during the show.
So far, to me, the rank hypocrisy of the NBA
is going to be on full display tonight, starting at
six dirty Eastern with the first game and then followed
up with the game between the Clippers and the Lakers. UH.
They have eight regular season games to play. I would

(01:22:52):
imagine it will be way over the top whatever is
being done, and I think it's going to be ultimately
bad for the n b A, I really do. I
think this is what happens when you worry about social
media reaction at the expense of other things. So that
is the three major stories that I would say are
out there. Let me go around the horn here. Uh.

(01:23:14):
And then we've got an animal thunderdome. Uh, special animal thunderdome.
I am told. So I want to get an animal
thunderdome in But which of these three stories do you
guys think are the biggest? I'll start with you, Danny
g Well, I'm in baseball mode. So as far as
the NBA, I'm just not ready for it. Eddie mentioned
earlier on the show that if this was the start
of the playoffs and we officially had all the players

(01:23:36):
back in the bubble and ready to go, then I
think I would be more hyped for it. So yesterday
the city of Los Angeles was like a hornet's nest
when this news came out about the eight game suspension. Yeah,
because obviously Joe Kelly was a new hero. It's what
everybody in the country wanted to see happen to the cheaters,
and I think Jared Weaver, the former Angel Wee, said

(01:24:00):
it best yesterday with the laughing emojis. He says, eight games,
what a joke? At MLB is so soft anymore, it's
kind of embarrassing. People should just keep cheating because apparently
there is zero game suspensions for that. By the way,
we have nice swing Bitch t shirt up on OutKick
Joe Kelly's alleged quote in Dodger Blue and White. I

(01:24:23):
texted it to you. You liked it. Yes, it looks
like the Dodger handwriting for people who want to get
revenge on the Astros and even more want to support
Joe Kelly. Now we have those up in the OutKick store.
You can go to OutKick dot com and check them out.
It's a good look and I wish that we could
wear those for our cardboard cutouts that we have. Did

(01:24:43):
you get any update on the cardboard cutouts in the
in the Dodger Stadium. I am expecting to hear back
from Lee today sometimes, so I will give you some
updates on that as we start the show next week.
All right, uh, dub, which of those three stories do
you think is the biggest? And by the way, for
people who are just waking up, think that the biggest
story is the NBA's hypocrisy with China, although I think

(01:25:05):
it's indefensible. Uh, the decision that was made by Major
League Baseball to spend Joe Kelly for eight games, and
I do think it's a positive. I'm kind of excited
to see how Notre Dame does playing a ten game
a CC schedule where they are now eligible to win
a conference title for the first time in the history
of their of their program. Uh, what's up for you, dub?

(01:25:27):
Which of these three stories stands out the most? Well,
for me personally, it's the a c C just because
college football is something that I need kind of like
oxygen for me to survive. And this is a great
step in college football happening this season. And the Notre
Dame angle is really interesting because they're always kind of
on their own island, making their own schedule, and now
they're gonna have kind of like a normal season like

(01:25:49):
everyone else has, and it'll be fun to watch them
play Clemson and see how they can compete and maybe
even win an a CEC championship would be, which would
be kind of a weird. Would they put a banner
up in the stadium if they win the a c
C and they and they go back to just being
an independent after the season. That's something I just thought of.
Just now, what what do you think they would do there?
I think they would. I mean, I don't assume they

(01:26:09):
would turn down the trophy um and so I I
think they probably put a flag up. I mean, they
haven't won a lot in Notre Dame since the title,
so I think they probably find somewhere to to reflect that.
Have we seen We haven't seen the a c C
schedule yet or did they release it. I haven't seen

(01:26:29):
an official schedule yet. No. The reason why I bring
it up is do we know where Notre Dame would
be playing for purposes of advancing to the conference title game?
Because they're fifteen team. The reason why I'm asking is
with Notre Dame playing in the a c C, there
will be fifteen teams, so in theory, one division would

(01:26:51):
have to be unbalanced. Or which side of the equation
are they putting Notre Dame in or will they say
in the a c C for this year, we're just
gonna take the top two teams overall. Um, it's just
one division play. They're just gonna have one division. I
actually like that. I I am anti division in general, right,

(01:27:11):
So for everybody out there, like I don't understand why
we have to have two divisions. So I would just
take the top two teams overall, with the understanding in
these fourteen team conferences that the schedules are not going
to be a percent even because you can only play
a certain percentage of teams. But for instance, in the SEC,
I have argued for a long time, instead of having

(01:27:33):
the SEC East and the SEC West, I would have
in a fourteen team conference you could have three yearly rivals.
Everybody could have three yearly rivals, and then you would
play half of the league one year and the other
half of the league the next year, and you would
play home and home four years. Every player would go

(01:27:55):
on the road and play in every SEC stadium. That's
using football of a see as an example. I like
that better. With no divisions and you just take the
top two teams. Then I do the idea of of
trying to have an Eastern Conference champ in a Western
Conference champ because in theory. As many of you know,
the two best teams could happen to be on the

(01:28:15):
same side of the division, So why should those teams
not get to play UH in the conference title game
to decide who's the best? That would make the most sense.
So that's at least gonna be intriguing to watch and
see how that plays out. So do you dub the
biggest story is the a c C schedule with Notre
Dame included. Do you think they'll end up playing Louisville Kentucky,
Georgia Georgia Tech, UH, Florida Florida State, and Clemson South Carolina.

(01:28:40):
It certainly seems like that. I would have thought before
this news broke that the SEC would have been the
conference that would be even more in favor than this,
But now it seems like the a CEC is totally
on board. So I don't see why these interstate rivalries
couldn't happen. Yeah, we'll see what ends up taking place there, Eddie,
What to you is the biggest story of those three? Well,
if I thought that the NBA media was gonna hold

(01:29:01):
Adam Silver's feet to the flames on this China story
and really grill him on this, I would definitely go
with that, but I don't think that's gonna happen. I
think that maybe the oscome about it, he'll give one
answer and it'll go away. So I'm gonna agree with
dub I'm gonna gree I'm gonna agree with him and
go a SEC football. And I believe Clemson Notre Dame
was already on the schedule. We thought we were gonna
lose that. If I remember right, Clemson Notre Dame or

(01:29:23):
scheduled I believe to play in November. Yeah, so we'll
get to see that matchup after all. Yeah, I'm assuming
they'd keep it on the same weekend, um, but maybe not.
I don't know. I mean, there's a lot of work
obviously to be done, uh to figure out exactly what
those ten games schedules look like, uh, in terms of
trying to think ahead. And they did say one non
conference game within the state, so that would seem to
set up the rivalries that you're talking about with Clemson,

(01:29:45):
South Carolina things like that, or they're trying to put
it on the SEC for the SEC to cancel those
games if the SEC does ten uh conference games. If
the SEC does ten conference games. I could see how
they could say to all of the SEC schools, hey,
you can play in the eleventh uh for for purposes
of scheduling in conference. If the SEC went in that direction, Uh,

(01:30:08):
then in theory, you could, uh you could find a
team inside your state who maybe as a smaller caliber
school to play, or you could keep going with your
major conference. Foe. What about you, Roberto, which of these
three do you think is the biggest story. Well, I'm
with Danny Jiques. I'm big baseball fan, Dodger fan, and
just we mentioned it because Joey Killer is a game
suspension is equivalent to a twenty two games suspension in

(01:30:31):
a hundred sixty two games season. And what really ticks
me off is that during the twenty seventeen World Series,
uh Julie guri Off from the from the Astrals did
a racial gesture, and uh, Rob Manfred thought it wasn't
appropriate for uh Gurial to get suspended during the World
Series because it would have been too steep of a
suspension in a seven game World Series. But then Joe

(01:30:53):
Kelly gets his big suspension. Oh yeah, I mean that's
a good point. I totally forgot about. That was the ridiculous. Yeah, yeah,
the Asian eyes exactly. Yeah, I told you, yeah, you
arsh all right, So let's all that. So those are
all big stories that we're following in addition to a
four or five earthquake that hit in the l A. Area.

(01:31:14):
But also we are going to rock the world. It's
been a while. It's Animal Thunderdome time. Roberto still and
what happened there? I thought that the the the earthquake
knocked out Roberto had just dropped his mike from talking
about Joe Kelly. He thought he had just made such
a statement. He thought his day was chicken dime time.

(01:31:42):
This is Animal thunder Dog all right, what you got
for me? Danny g. This story was tweeted into US
dozens and dozens of time. Now, if you have a
week's stomach or kids in the car, I want recommend
to turn it down, the audio down just for a minute.
Here a sad story. Former pre sident of accessories brand Kipling,

(01:32:02):
which is I guess a big deal in the fashion world,
was killed by a great white shark while swimming with
her daughter off the coast of Maine. She was sixty three.
This New York City woman, um pretty well known in
the fashion industry, died when she was attacked by a
great white shark. Julie Hollowak was swimming in a wetsuit
with her daughter near Bailey Island there in Maine on Monday,

(01:32:24):
the first shark attack death in the history of Maine. Yeah.
And here's the the part where I was like, Okay,
I'm gonna have to say turn it down if you
have a weak stomach, because an eyewitness says Holliwick had
appeared to be thrown up in the air by something
and then held under water. Another eyewitness said the same thing.

(01:32:46):
Her daughter saw all of this. They they say two
kayakers were able to help Hallowak, the former president of Kipling,
back to shore so that she could be treated on land,
but Marine Patrol says that she was pronounced dead at
the scene, and the U. S. Coast Guards said it
was alerted to the shark attack just after three thirty pm,
after her uninjured daughter was able to swim back to

(01:33:08):
shore and call for help before she collapsed in the
sand crying. Great white in Maine, it's the first ever
shark attack on a human in the history of Maine
to end in a death. A lot of people on
Twitter were questioning why you would be in those waters
right now because apparently super I know they were in

(01:33:29):
wet suits, but a lot of a lot of the
comments from people in that area said that it's unusual
for people to be swimming because of how cold that
water is. Yeah, and they said that they've had a
huge increase along the Upper Northeast in seal populations and
that uh, and that maybe there has been confusion among

(01:33:50):
the sharks, which if you look at the data, a
lot of times, you know surfers for instance, who were
out on surfboards or people who are in wet suits
or whatever. Uh, the shark can get confused and think
that initially it is a seal and not a human.
But but yeah, that's a that's an awful story. I
I read about it. I got sent that by a

(01:34:10):
bunch of people as well. Yeah, really bad. And by
the way, the main department for Marine Resources said they
recovered a tooth fragment, so they were able to confirm
that it was a great white responsible. All right, let's
move on to the next story here. This is from Kerala, India.
Better ending to this story, and it sounds like this
could be a lifetime made for TV movie. Here, neighbors

(01:34:32):
were hesitant to approach a toddler who was in quarantine
with her family, who was bit by a viper. A
headload worker moved quickly to save the little girl's life.
Janil Matthew, who is the truckloader, while he was the
only one to step forward. The entire family was in
this quarantine because they had just moved to the area

(01:34:54):
on July six, so they're in India. Um, if you
moved to a new residential area, they put you in
an automatic quarantine because of the coronavirus ry. Now, obviously
it's exactly so. So in addition to being in quarantine,
that the kid got bit by a viper, Right, it's
a tough combo. The couple say that they saw neighbors
crowding outside their house, but nobody came inside to help.

(01:35:15):
The dad says it was because we were in quarantine,
so everybody was scared. This guy, Janielle, though, who lives
opposite from their house, said screw that. He ran in.
And this is where it sounds like a movie scene.
It says Janille went straight to the room, killed the snake,
picked its carcass up in one hand, the little girl
in the other, and had his cell phone pressed between

(01:35:38):
his air and shoulder. He was not even wearing a shirt,
the dad said, but was doing everything like Superman. By
the time he reached the road, an ambulance had arrived.
So this dude sweeps into the house, kills the snake
in one hand, yep, picks up the injured toddler in
the other hand after bandoning her arm. By the way,
and it's simultaneously basic. Basically is calling nine one so

(01:36:02):
that there's an ambulance to take him to the hospital.
Better than that. I don't know about the if they
have a nine one one service, but it says Janielle
had the quick thinking to call his friend who drives
an ambulance in the town, and they put the girl
in the front seat of the ambulance and quickly got
her to the nearest hospital. This dude sounds like the
the Jason Bourne of of India right now. The doctors

(01:36:25):
there said if it was fifteen minutes later, she would
not have lived and instead, so this guy literally saved
the girl's life. Yeah. Now, unfortunately, um, they tested the
little girl and she tested positive for COVID, which is,
as we know, is very rare for someone that young
to have it. So now he's in quarantine, the heroes

(01:36:45):
in quarantine and has to be tested regularly for COVID,
and when he gets out, there's just gonna be a
huge line of women. Is that Do we know this
guy if he's single? It doesn't say I hope he's single,
because I would think I don't. I'm not an expert
on what Indian women want, but I would think man
who storms into a house shirtless, kills a snake, saves
a toddler, saves her life, gets her into a car,

(01:37:08):
that's probably something where if you're an Indian woman in
that in that area, I would imagine that you're swooning.
What a pimp? You imagine that at your profile? What
about the what about so? Is that? What about the
dad of the little girl? He was just panicking along
with the mom, hoping that one of the neighbors would
step in and help, Right, So, I don't think that's
a good look for the dad. I mean, he basically
got dunked on by this this savior who comes running

(01:37:30):
in shirtless. You're not wrong. I'm not sure that that
his wife's gonna stay with him. She might end up
with the shirtless guy. Now that might be the plot
twist at the end of this. And then she left
her lose her husband and went with the savior. All right,
let's close out with two quick. Pet owners will like
these two stories. We're gonna close with here. A dog
who jumped out of a car window on a South
Carolina highway was found eleven days later, six hundred miles

(01:37:52):
away in Florida. Tim Whitfield says his family got the dog, Bella,
for his ninety year old mom, just a few months ago.
Earlier this month, the dog vanished after leaping from a
car window on the highway near Charleston. Whitfield says Bell
was located Sunday, eleven days after jumping out of the
car window, six hundred miles away. Why did the dog

(01:38:13):
jump out? That's a good question. I mean, maybe maybe
this story here is that these are bad owners. I mean,
I mean, most dogs like to put their head out
the window and fill the air. But I usually don't
have to keep your dog from jumping out. Maybe he
wanted like a more younger, like more active owner. I mean,
he was gifted to a ninety year old. Yeah, I mean,
I don't know. I mean, the dog seems like it
was kind of a cry for help. It seems to

(01:38:33):
me so obviously, how bad would you feel if your
dog just jumped out the window like you're You're like, man,
at least I've got you, Rover, and then rovers like
I'm out peace and he just jumps out the window
while you're driving driving down there. I've never even heard
of that happening. They found the dog in Miami, and
then the dog ran to Miami. Yeah, that's a Florida

(01:38:54):
It's flo We got Florida. Man, we got a Florida dog.
And then and then a similar story from Utah, Utah
Animal Shelter said a cat that went missing ten years
ago was reunited with her owner after being brought in
as a stray. The animal shelter there said a stray
cat was recently brought into the shelter by a person
who said that they had been feeding this stray, but

(01:39:14):
they wanted it to be checked for a chip, So
the shelters scanned the cat for a micro chip and
found the contact information for a man who identified the
cat as Mocha, his daughter's cat. When she was like
ten years old. So Mocha shows back up. Here's a
question for you. I'm curious on this. Would it make
sense so that I understand, because we're getting these new

(01:39:36):
cats and they're gonna have micro chips in them so
we can be scanned or I was gonna ask you
about that. You found two Russian blue No, we ended
up getting the tiger cats, the Bengals. The Bengals not
not not real tigers, not like you know tiger. Yeah,
there are many tigers. Yeah yeah, not like tiger king.
But but yeah, like little little guys. Um. But so

(01:39:57):
we're supposed to get those at some point, but they
get the chips in them. Why would so why would
every kid not also get a computer chip in them? So, like,
when you're a parent, one of the biggest fears you
have is your kid getting kidnapped. If we're putting computer chips,
like just barely under the skin of animals so that

(01:40:18):
we can make sure if they get lost, we can
find them again, like just happened with that ten year
old cat, why wouldn't and like, why wouldn't we consider
doing that with young children so that if your kid
ever got kidnapped or lost you could just figure out
exactly where they were, probably because there's part of the
population that is even against vaccines, so some people against microchips.

(01:40:42):
If you can put the microchip in the cat and
find it like ten years later and everybody out there,
a ton of people have used that find my phone feature,
you know, if you lose your phone. Isn't there almost
a technology now for young children where you could do that?
Am I crazy to even think about that? Well, it
would suck once you were a teenager and you just

(01:41:04):
get it pulled out. I think it's some at some
point in your age. But I'm saying for really young children.
When I heard about this micro chip that the cats
are going to have, I was like, that's great, And
my kids are getting older now. But one of the
things you fear if you're a parent is, oh my god,
what if my kid got kidnapped? I would never know
what happened to them. I would never know where they were.
What if you had the ability like just I don't

(01:41:26):
know underneath, Like, it can't be that painful for the
animal if they're doing it. What if you had the
ability to do that for humans? Am I? Am I
crazy for thinking of that or is it? Like? Is
it do other parents immediately think of that? Like when
I'm paying all this money for a cat and it
has a micro chip in it, I'm like, that's great.
I don't ever want to lose my cat. But on

(01:41:48):
the scale of losing something, I'm way more concerned a
billion percent more concerned as a parent about my kids disappearing. Now,
I just am I blow in everybody's mind this morning
or sitting around beginning. Why we have microchips and cats?
Why don't we have them? Been five year old, Roberto,
you have a daughter, would you a crazy question? Definitely

(01:42:10):
love it. I have a daughter to know where she
is at all times when she gets older, Yeah, I'd
be great. I mean, don't you think like as a parent,
don't you? I mean, I'm not unique in this, right,
being Like having a kid kidnapped is one of the
worst years every time. Yeah, and so if you knew that,
you could like because and then having your kid disappear

(01:42:31):
and never knowing what happened to them is one of
the worst things that could ever happen to a parent.
And so we just had this cat get reunited with
its owner. I I'm just I don't understand why the
technology is all being applied to animals. It's a good point.
And by the way, the man's daughter, who is now
an adult, came into the shelter. There's cool video of
her being reunited with her long lost pet. The shelter

(01:42:53):
said the story should serve as a reminder of how
important it is to bring stray animals in to be
scanned for micro chips. Yeah, I mean it, and also
the fact that microchips will work well. Anyway, My mind
is blown here. I might have just blown your mind
thinking about it, but that's the first thought I had
when I heard that our new cats. I've never had
an animal with a microchip in it before, but evidently
our new animals are gonna have micro chips. When do
they arrive. I think they're supposed to get here. My

(01:43:15):
my family's out of town right now. I think they're
supposed to get here at the end of August. Very cool. Sorry,
maybe mid August. I'm not sure. I'm not the expert
on the cat purchase. I just know the cat purchases happened.
Uh you know Notn't it weird having such a quiet house.
I have no idea what to do with myself. Clay
actually talks to us during the commercial breaks. Usually my
kids are Yeah, usually you're running up and downstairs wrangling

(01:43:38):
children and so breakfast everything else. Especially since the shutdowns
have happened, my kids are, you know, always running around
and yelling and everything else. But yeah, it's a totally
weird situation to be in the house and I'm gonna
be here like ten days solo. It's weird, too weird
to be in the house and not have any sounds
and uh, and just be like, I understand now why
people are like, oh, I've got a downsize Like once

(01:43:59):
you're kids actually leave the house and it's just you
and your wife, Like, why do you have a decent
sized house like that You're not using the vast majority
of it. Yeah, it makes complete sense. Anyway, I need microchips,
and uh, and I need my family back sooner rather
than later. Dr chow about it about micro chips. Yeah,
I'll see you. I'm wonderingful. I'm actually curious if you

(01:44:19):
have also thought of this, If you have, like, am
I the only person who's thought of this? It seems
like a natural next step when you find out that
your animal has got a micro chip. The kid that
you care about way more. Why can't the kid have
a micro chip? James Bondles had a chip inside of them. Yeah,
I mean, and they're like in bat in movies, like
there's always somebody who has to cut out the micro

(01:44:40):
chip or whatever you're they're being tracked, Eddie, what have
you got for me? I I don't have any kids,
but I don't they do this for newborns. Don't they
put some kind of low jack on them or something
there in the hospital, well when there is a hospital,
but it's just on the wrist band to confirm to
keep a baby from being stolen out of like they
they shut down basically like a hospital if somebody tries

(01:45:01):
to take a newborn out of the out of the
newborn a ward or whatever else. So Eddie's proposing an
ankle bracelet on children. Yeah, I mean, if you don't
want to go with the chip, you know, I think
that's a nice uh secondary choice. Just just go ahead
and put them on parole at that the moment they're born.
Ankle bracelet. Uh Yeah, So I don't know what what

(01:45:23):
the technology is behind it that, whether that would allow
and maybe super rich people are already doing this, and
they're like, you're late to the late to the curve.
But if I have to choose between putting microchips and
my cats or my kids, I think I'd go with kids,
especially the young ones. Now I think you get it
out like, you know, fourteen, fifteen years old, but when
you're like kidnappable age, I mean, I think that's something
that a lot of parents would like to have. Maybe

(01:45:44):
that's the next business I need to get into it.
It's out kicked the coverage with Clay Travis. All right,
let's get some more five star reviews. Danny g Alright,
this iTunes handle x bu R. His title is yellow Stone.
I have this five star review because, at Clay's recommendation,
I binged watched yellow Stone. Thank you very much, Clay.

(01:46:07):
It is now probably my favorite current TV show. It's
pretty entertaining yellow Stone. Checkout out kick, not only for
all of the hot sports takes, but also because Clay
gives you excellent bin show recommendations. It's kind of a
ridiculous show, but also pretty entertaining. And it's said in Montana,
which is a awesome venue. Kevin Costner's phenomenal uh they're

(01:46:29):
almost I think like three or four episodes left in
season three, so there's only been twenty five or twenty
six episodes so far. But it's pretty good. Paramount Network,
all right, and the next winner here Big John and Bam.
Didn't know Clay Travis, but here is my first experience
with him. My first memory of hearing Clay was on
the Fine Bomb Show. He was taking calls from angry

(01:46:51):
Obama fans Do you remember this? And one caller in
particular was going off on Clay about what an idiot
he was and blah blah blah and a I elect
that can only be described as very redneck. Clay's response was,
Oh you think I dumb? How about this, Bobby Jack,
Let's have a spelling contest. I wanted to have a
spelling be challenged it. I almost wrecked my car laughing.

(01:47:14):
Then I come to find out that Clay is actually
a super nice guy and was very kind to my
friends who own a pizza restaurant here in Birmingham that
he always visited when he came into town for media days.
Fast forward to right now, and I really believe that
he speaks for a lot of us. He is well reasoned,
and for the rest of a sports fans who also
are we love him because he's not trying to ignore

(01:47:36):
issues in society, but prefers to keep those out of
sports that we can't stand. I've been a big fan since,
and I've just signed up for v I p adding.
Adding Whitlock to the OutKick crew was a grand slam.
I'm now a huge fan of both Clay and OutKick.
So you can't have people saying nice things. I don't
want my reputation to get ruined. Yeah, yeah, I did

(01:47:58):
challenge back in the day, take calls from angry Alabama
fans and uh find bombs follow callers would get mad
at me, so we I challenged him to a spelling beat. Well,
and you already changed Tater's minds with this morning show
because you kneeled for the earthquake. Yeah, you cannot see
your anti earthquake. Nobody hates earthquakes more than me. I
thought it was important I use my platform. Alright, one

(01:48:19):
last quick one here. They've they've all been about you,
So how about this One's titled from Zebo The Real
Star about Kick. I started following Clay my freshman year
of college, right before he started his radio show. I
have literally listened to every episode about Kick on the
podcast since then. I've been here since the very beginning
and can tell you firsthand Clay is very consistent. His

(01:48:41):
opinions are always well thought out, and even when I disagree,
he presents the other side of the argument more coherent
and logically than you will hear anywhere else. That being said,
the real star of the show is Danny g. This
guy is smart. The depth of his animal Thunderdome reports
are unparalleled. He is the unwavering foundation that keeps the

(01:49:01):
radio show on track even when the phones don't work.
His most compelling trait is his ability to select the
five star reviews to read on the show with absolutely
no bias. There's no collusion and no Russian involvement whatsoever.
He only picks the best reviews to read, and just
like this review, OutKick is one of the best podcasts
on the planet and the best brand you can support.

(01:49:25):
Just blatant sucking up. I have to respect it. Good jobs, Eva,
al Right, are we good? Let's go, It's a break
and we come back. Dr David Show will join us
to finish up the show. If you heard those five
star reviews. Go give us a five star review. If
Danny G picks it out, you get an autograph copy
of my book. Thanks for listening, go give us five stars,
and thanks for subscribing, downloading the podcast, and listening wherever

(01:49:47):
you are across this entire nation and this great land.
This is Outkicked the coverage with Clay Travis. Do we
bring in now Dr David Chow at Pro Football Doc. Well,
if you didn't know what kind of scrutiny you might
be under as soon as you join up for out Kick,
you found out the last week doc. No, you know,

(01:50:12):
in a funny way, I kind of enjoyed it in
the sense that, you know, uh, questions are fair, and
I have all the answers, and you know I got
nothing to hide, so uh, in in a funny way,
it was fine, I mean, and so forth. But I
know that you and Jason are used to being out

(01:50:36):
there more. I usually try and take a lower profile,
but but I'm more than happy to answer questions and
anyone who sees on my Twitter timeline who they've kind
of come at me with a little bit, but as
almost there, you know, kind of reasonable about it. I
actually reply and answer any criticism, So you know, I'm
good with it. I'm like a pig. I enjoy being

(01:50:56):
in the mud, so there's nothing much to be gained of.
People are like, oh my god, Claytreravis, We're gonna get
him this time. I'm like kidding. I love rolling around
the mud. It's my favorite. Let yeah, I let me
tell you, as my wife will tell you. Uh, even
though I live in San Diego and right by the beach,
I don't like sand on my feet, much less rolling
around the mud. Yeah. Alright, so let's talk. I mean,

(01:51:18):
obviously there's been a ton of discussion about the Marlins
and the fallout there. What have you seen so far
from Major League Baseball? Uh? That makes you either optimistic
or pessimistic. Not about the Marlins right now, but about
the situation going forward. Well, what it seems like is
that clearly Baseball maybe didn't react quickly enough for Marlins.

(01:51:41):
Didn't it was coming with the three and then it
went eleven and even more so. The good news is
Baseball seems to be battening down the hatches, compliance officers,
surgical mass suggesting to stay home, you know, in the hotels.
But it's really, as we keep saying what happens off
the field rather than on the field. Look, the Phillies

(01:52:03):
knock on Wood still have zero positives so far. They're
gonna keep testing a little bit and if they continue
to stay clear, they will quote be in the clear
by tomorrow probably. But the Marlins, it's the buses, it's
the hotel, and it's not just staying in your hotel
on the road. You can't just gather in one player's

(01:52:24):
room on the hotel in order room service. That's not
going to be good enough either. It's social distancing away
from the field that's going to lead to success. And
hopefully sports teams are starting to realize that. I think
more and more they are. What do you think of
the NFL's plans as everybody is coming back in training
camp is basically officially starting to get underway. Well, the

(01:52:45):
success and failure of the plans will be, like you know,
there's a report that Bobby Wagner in Seattle is trying
to tell the young bucks what to do and how
to stay safe. If you get veteran buy in and
with peer pressure, the teams stay socially distant away from
the practice facility. I think you have a reasonable chance
if veteran leaders on the team say whatever, in the

(01:53:05):
facility will follow the rules, but out we're going to
do what we want you, you have no chance. You're
gonna be like the Marlins. The upside of you have
to whether you're in a true bubble Orlando bubble, wherever,
bubble or no bubble, you still have to be in
a virtual bubble to succeed in terms of away from
the facility and uh and otherwise otherwise you're not going

(01:53:28):
to succeed. And the only thing that's been good about
Major League not being in a bubble. If Marlin's did
what they did and they were in a bubble, the
entire baseball league would have been shut down. What do
you think about the idea of college football playing only
in conference games? Does that seem safer to you than
a regular season schedule? Well, only from the perspective that

(01:53:51):
they know what sort of protocols are in place per
the conference and what sort of testing is in place
per the conference. But beyond that, and you know, honestly
probably have more control of the schedule that way, right
than than out of conference games and and so forth.
So that may be the bigger issue. But the bigger issue.
Once again, the Rutgers outbreak has nothing to do with

(01:54:12):
the Big ten or not Big ten or whatever. It
was traced apparently to uh on Camp his party, and
once again, as we talked a week or two ago,
I find it unbelievable. Fantastic kudos to the SEC that
they haven't had positive tests after the initial arrival. But
kudos not just to the the school officials, to the
players because they're the ones that have to stay away

(01:54:35):
from these parties and other social gatherings. Look, when I
was in school, that might have been a tough message
to for me to understand. Yeah, there's no doubt. What
do you think about all we're talking? Dr David chow
at Pro Football Doc at Twitter, you can read him
at OutKick dot com. What what do you think about
the number of NFL players that have opted out so far?
Does that surprise you? It does? I mean I wrote

(01:54:56):
the article when the doctor the player doctor Tardif duven
A Tardif opted out. I didn't think there'd be that many.
I'm clearly wrong. There's more than I thought. You know
what I'm thinking about writing an article for OutKick? Why
is it? I've talked to a lot of people, what
really is the high risk and is it the risk
or is it the perception of the risk. Look, I

(01:55:18):
choose not to ride a motorcycle. Other people do choose
to ride a motorcycle. At this point, there seems to
be more people choosing not to ride the motorcycle than
I would have thought, I e. Playing football, And Uh,
it's a matter of risk reward for your own personal life.
I don't hate on any of them, but I might
do something examining what the real medical risk is. Yeah,

(01:55:39):
I don't think there's any doubt at all about that.
I think that'd be a fantastic article to read. Are
you optimistic about the n b A and the NHL
bubby bubble succeeding? Final question for you as we get
ready for the start of the NBA and NHL seasons. Uh,
you know, all the eggs in one basket, right, So
as long as they still stay vigilant, you know, in

(01:55:59):
anyone who who has any violations, they really are aggressive
and shutting them down and they have a good chance.
But if there's any Marlins like fist situation that happens,
that is the pen that will burst the bubble. So
I hope so yes. Dr David Chow, Appreciate you getting
up early with us. Appreciate you taking fire, getting some
some flak already. Par OutKick. Go read him at OutKick

(01:56:21):
dot com, Go follow him at Pro Football Doc, and
we come back tomorrow be breaking down the start of
the NBA season and the eve of the NFL season,
all NHL season, all of that still to come tomorrow.
